- 0:00Speaker 1: But we know that overnight some pretty strict measures were
- 0:04Speaker 1: put in place for a few streets in Catherine to
- 0:07Speaker 1: try to minimize the spread of COVID nineteen. Now joining
- 0:10Speaker 1: me on the line is the Mayor of Catherine, Liz Clark.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Good morning to you, Liz, Oh.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Good morning, Katie. How are you today?
- 0:18Speaker 1: Very well now, Liz, Obviously earlier in the week, we
- 0:21Speaker 1: were all feeling quite positive for you guys in Catherine,
- 0:24Speaker 1: thinking this is wonderful you're opening back up and with
- 0:28Speaker 1: limited restrictions or with no restrictions after what's been a
- 0:31Speaker 1: pretty tumultuous month. Liz, talk us through what happened late
- 0:36Speaker 1: yesterday afternoon.
- 0:40Speaker 2: We just had a few calls from people asking counsel
- 0:44Speaker 2: why they were block of blocking off areas. But yeah,
- 0:50Speaker 2: we because apparently I know that yesterday they were looking
- 0:56Speaker 2: going house to house. They're looking for another COVID case
- 0:59Speaker 2: that part of the cluster that they hadn't found yet,
- 1:04Speaker 2: and so they've decided to block off the road, the road,
- 1:10Speaker 2: you know, two of the roads around around Catherine East
- 1:15Speaker 2: to see if they could find these people.
- 1:18Speaker 1: And Liz, what's the update this morning? Are those roads
- 1:21Speaker 1: still blocked at the moment or how's it all sort
- 1:24Speaker 1: of tracking?
- 1:26Speaker 2: They will be blocked until Sunday. There's they've found another
- 1:30Speaker 2: I believe another five cases overnight. They're there, but this
- 1:37Speaker 2: roadblock is up until Sunday. The people that are caught
- 1:41Speaker 2: in that area will be given food packages. Yeah. So yeah,
- 1:47Speaker 2: that's that's all I know about it at the moment.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Katie, Yeah, well, which is fair enough. But so they
- 1:53Speaker 1: believe that there is another five cases. I know that
- 1:56Speaker 1: it's Malaluka Road, Hudspur's Place, Frangi Honey Court and Acasha Drive,
- 2:02Speaker 1: and Liza said that there are food parcels and things
- 2:05Speaker 1: like that being delivered to the residents in those streets.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Yes, they will be you know, essential people. Essential people
- 2:13Speaker 2: will be allowed to leave the area, but only Yeah,
- 2:17Speaker 2: only if you're essential that you really have to go.
- 2:22Speaker 2: But it's yeah, it was. It was either that or
- 2:26Speaker 2: I'd imagine they didn't want to close down the whole town.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Again, which is fair enough. Liz, what's to give us
- 2:34Speaker 1: or to paint us a bit of a picture, I
- 2:35Speaker 1: suppose how many people? Do you know how many people
- 2:39Speaker 1: actually sort of live in that area?
- 2:44Speaker 2: I'm not quite sure how many there's that there are
- 2:47Speaker 2: a few, I mean, but only not the whole of
- 2:50Speaker 2: Maluca Road. It's sort of part of Maluka Road at
- 2:54Speaker 2: the turn off just before Grevillia, and not all of Acacia.
- 2:59Speaker 2: It's stopped so like further down, so you can still
- 3:02Speaker 2: go around, you know, you just have to go along
- 3:06Speaker 2: a way to get around to the school, to the
- 3:09Speaker 2: high school and so forth. But yeah, there are quite
- 3:13Speaker 2: a few houses in that area.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Yeah, Li's what's the feeling around Catherine this morning in
- 3:19Speaker 1: light of what's gone on in the last sort of
- 3:21Speaker 1: twelve hours or so.
- 3:24Speaker 2: I think I think people are well again because they
- 3:28Speaker 2: didn't have to shut the whole town down. I think
- 3:31Speaker 2: it's the relief in that sense, you know. But I
- 3:35Speaker 2: do feel for the residents that are in the in
- 3:39Speaker 2: the you know, they're in that lockdown. It would be
- 3:42Speaker 2: hard for them because I think they were taken by surprise.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Yeah, well I bet and you know, I know even
- 3:49Speaker 1: yesterday obviously the Chief Minister had mentioned it throughout that
- 3:53Speaker 1: press conference, but I don't think anybody was sort of
- 3:55Speaker 1: anticipating that it was going to be this street.
- 3:59Speaker 2: No, I don't think so either. Yeah, I think it's
- 4:03Speaker 2: going I think it's in the same vein as as
- 4:08Speaker 2: what they've done is Binjari and rockhol where you know
- 4:11Speaker 2: that you can't leave unless you are essential.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Yeah, well, Liz Clark, the Mayor of Catherine, we will
- 4:18Speaker 1: leave it there. Really appreciate your time this morning, and
- 4:20Speaker 1: really appreciate the time you've given us over the last
- 4:23Speaker 1: couple of weeks.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Well, thank you very much for having me, Katie, and
- 4:27Speaker 2: you have a wonderful day you too. Thank you
