- 0:11Speaker 1: Hey, friends, before we get started, this is a Girl's
- 0:13Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark rewind episode, which means you're about to hear
- 0:16Speaker 1: us revisit an episode.
- 0:17Speaker 2: We've already aired. Maybe the movie is airing again.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Maybe we just.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Loved this episode that much. Either way, we think it's
- 0:23Speaker 2: worth another listen.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Enjoy.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm
- 0:39Speaker 1: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark movie fan.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I'm Wendy.
- 0:42Speaker 1: I'm your former Hallmark hater. Today we're discussing Summer Villa,
- 0:47Speaker 1: which originally aired on the Hallmark Channel on July twenty third,
- 0:50Speaker 1: twenty sixteen, which feels like it was a year ago,
- 0:53Speaker 1: but was in fact eight years ago. So let me
- 0:56Speaker 1: blow your mind right there.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Yeah for real.
- 0:58Speaker 1: If you want to connect with us out side of
- 1:00Speaker 1: the podcast, follow us on Instagram. We are Girls Gone Hallmark.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Come on over and jump into our Girls Gone Hallmark
- 1:07Speaker 1: Facebook group. If you're looking for it on Hallmark, just
- 1:11Speaker 1: head over to groups and type in Girls Gone Hallmark.
- 1:14Speaker 2: We should pop up for you. If not, we'll have.
- 1:17Speaker 1: A link in our show notes if, ma'am. Before we
- 1:21Speaker 1: jump into this movie, there's some news Hallmark and Girls
- 1:25Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark related I think we should talk about first up.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Speaking of the Facebook group, this was discussed there. One
- 1:31Speaker 1: of the hot Hallmark adjacent stories is Ryan Pavey and
- 1:37Speaker 1: his hot takes go ahead, he tweeted, sadly no.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Word of a Hallmark film.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Excuse me, he wrote on X but never I may
- 1:47Speaker 1: take twenty twenty four off from filming unless the project
- 1:50Speaker 1: is with friends. Following up with the last eight months
- 1:53Speaker 1: of life in this industry have left a pretty bitter
- 1:56Speaker 1: taste in my mouth, and I need some time away
- 1:58Speaker 1: from a world so full of fake friends and empty promises.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Wo so shots fired. This has been written about.
- 2:06Speaker 2: I mean this.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Particular quote I pulled from an article on Deadline dot com.
- 2:11Speaker 1: It's been everywhere, It's been hotly reported. Look, Ryan was
- 2:14Speaker 1: in two movies in twenty twenty three for Hallmark. That's
- 2:17Speaker 1: not nothing, even a Christmas movie. So what's he talking
- 2:20Speaker 1: about last eight months? Well, I don't know who knows
- 2:24Speaker 1: when that was filmed, but it doesn't seem that wild
- 2:27Speaker 1: to me that it's April and he's not in a
- 2:29Speaker 1: movie yet. The Hallmark bench is deep, and I think
- 2:34Speaker 1: we talked recently about how the Hallmark execs came out,
- 2:36Speaker 1: and he had a multi picture deal signed in twenty
- 2:39Speaker 1: twenty two, which I imagine ended last year. They're not
- 2:43Speaker 1: doing those anymore, so I could imagine I'm in a
- 2:46Speaker 1: multi picture deal. I don't get resigned. Yeah, but it's
- 2:48Speaker 1: not you. That's just not how we're doing business anymore.
- 2:52Speaker 1: And it feels like sour grapes.
- 2:54Speaker 2: To me, and also feels like fake friends and empty promises.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Feels like you're asking people to be like, well, what
- 3:01Speaker 1: happened and he's not going to tell you. Yeah, it's
- 3:04Speaker 1: a little vague book, right, Yes, I saw you write
- 3:07Speaker 1: this in the Facebook group. He's not one two mince words.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I think that perfectly sums him up. He has been
- 3:14Speaker 1: very vocal in the past about his unhappiness with certain
- 3:19Speaker 1: brands or projects or events, etc.
- 3:22Speaker 2: It's not good for him.
- 3:23Speaker 1: The coverage that it got was wild. Yeah, it doesn't
- 3:25Speaker 1: I if I'm a Hallmark exec, it doesn't make me
- 3:27Speaker 1: want to.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Go, oh please come back.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Yeah, we shall see if we see mister Pavey on
- 3:33Speaker 1: our Hallmark screens this year.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Wow wow.
- 3:36Speaker 1: If you follow us outside the podcast on Instagram on Facebook,
- 3:42Speaker 1: you may have heard the news.
- 3:43Speaker 2: But we sat down to come up with our summer schedule.
- 3:47Speaker 1: And when you completely blew my mind, I'm no schmuck
- 3:51Speaker 1: over here.
- 3:52Speaker 2: What does that mean? Because you're like, when he completely
- 3:55Speaker 2: blew my mind? Oh never mind, it's okay, go ahead.
- 3:58Speaker 2: What did you think I was talking about that?
- 4:00Speaker 1: I sat down and mapped out the movies that we're
- 4:02Speaker 1: going to watch and the days that.
- 4:04Speaker 2: We're going to do it, and made an image for it. No, no, no, no,
- 4:08Speaker 2: no no. You're a hard worker. That's not my point.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I wasn't saying, wow, Wendy did something that was never the.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Direction I was going.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I'm talking about the content we're creating, and that it
- 4:20Speaker 1: was in the end, ultimately you who pushed for it.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I mean, I feel like I am the one who
- 4:28Speaker 1: pushed this Girl's Gone Hallmark from the very getting so
- 4:32Speaker 1: go ahead. The people have suggested many, many times that
- 4:36Speaker 1: we take on Science Sealed Delivered. Every time we talk
- 4:39Speaker 1: about you know, what should we watch? It's a big undertaking.
- 4:43Speaker 1: And with the new movies coming out, we had said
- 4:46Speaker 1: on a recent episode, what should we do?
- 4:48Speaker 2: What are your thoughts? And the discussion came up in
- 4:50Speaker 2: the Facebook group.
- 4:51Speaker 1: People were saying do it take it on? I want
- 4:54Speaker 1: to hear it, and so it is a signed sealed
- 4:59Speaker 1: delivered summer coming at you. I'm excited for it, to
- 5:03Speaker 1: be honest, I too.
- 5:04Speaker 2: I think it'll be fun.
- 5:05Speaker 1: We are doing all the movies and the series, and
- 5:09Speaker 1: we don't have air dates for those two sign sealed
- 5:12Speaker 1: delivered movies that are coming out.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I know.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I hope they don't drop during the summertime, like in
- 5:17Speaker 1: the middle of our schedule. Well, if they're dropping two
- 5:19Speaker 1: this year, we're gonna get at least one before the
- 5:23Speaker 1: end of summer. Well hopefully it's at the end of
- 5:26Speaker 1: our our run with it. We shall see, right, So
- 5:30Speaker 1: I will post that schedule on our Instagram today.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Oh exciting.
- 5:37Speaker 1: I already dropped it last week in the Facebook. I
- 5:39Speaker 1: did see that in Facebook. So if you're in the
- 5:41Speaker 1: Facebook group, you got early access. But you can keep
- 5:44Speaker 1: up with what's coming from us this summer. And btw,
- 5:48Speaker 1: I have already started sign steal delivery.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Oh my goodness.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And this is why I have found out that there
- 5:54Speaker 1: is an actual pilot before the episodes, because I watched
- 5:57Speaker 1: the first episode and of like, wait, did I miss
- 5:59Speaker 1: something like who are these people?
- 6:01Speaker 2: Oh?
- 6:02Speaker 1: Now it makes sense that there was a pilot movie
- 6:05Speaker 1: first and then all the episodes. So anyway, I like
- 6:09Speaker 1: what I've seen so far. Oh, I'm glad to hear it.
- 6:11Speaker 1: We did get one DM that was like, no, they're
- 6:15Speaker 1: not that good.
- 6:17Speaker 2: I know.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I hear that in my head every single day too.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I'm like, what have I gotten myself into?
- 6:23Speaker 1: I'm not so much worried about what we've gotten ourselves into.
- 6:26Speaker 1: We've watched plenty of bad movies, but don't go anywhere
- 6:30Speaker 1: if Sign Seal Delivered isn't your jam is all I'm saying.
- 6:32Speaker 2: We will be doing Christmas in July again this year.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Yes, I'm really excited about the slate of movies we're reviewing.
- 6:39Speaker 1: There eight never before seven never before reviewed movies and
- 6:44Speaker 1: one revisited movie. We will be breaking up Sign Seeal Delivered.
- 6:48Speaker 2: With oh holiday cheer.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Yes, I'm excited about our schedule. Me dude, all right,
- 6:54Speaker 1: let's move on. You ready for a synopsis? I am
- 6:57Speaker 1: Summer Villa, a celebrity chef who getting over a bad review,
- 7:01Speaker 1: and a romance novelist who can't seem to get her
- 7:04Speaker 1: next book. Started meet accidentally at a French villa. This
- 7:09Speaker 1: movie first premiered on Hallmark in twenty sixteen, and then
- 7:12Speaker 1: Hallmark re aired it as part of their Summer Nights
- 7:15Speaker 1: lineup in twenty twenty. When I saw that note, I
- 7:18Speaker 1: was like, are you telling me Hallmark never repeated this
- 7:22Speaker 1: movie between twenty sixteen and twenty twenty because they repromoted
- 7:27Speaker 1: it as like not new, but like exciting to our
- 7:31Speaker 1: summer night's lineup.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Here we've got Summer Villa.
- 7:34Speaker 1: I doubt that they never re aired it. My guess
- 7:38Speaker 1: is twenty twenty, no one will we know about Hallmark
- 7:41Speaker 1: productions right things were halted in March. Maybe they're like, oh,
- 7:45Speaker 1: we don't have as many summer movies as we need.
- 7:47Speaker 1: We're just going to re air this fan favorite during
- 7:50Speaker 1: our Summer Nights lineup. Gotcha, gotcha. This movie was directed
- 7:55Speaker 1: by Pat Keeley. Pat has ten previous directing credits. Summer
- 7:59Speaker 1: Villain was his first project for Hallmark. He's gone on
- 8:03Speaker 1: to direct Majestic Christmas and Christmas in My Heart for
- 8:07Speaker 1: the Channel. There are two screenwriters credited for this movie.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Carrie Lee Wilson has just four writing credits. This is
- 8:14Speaker 1: her one and only Hallmark movie. Other projects include A
- 8:18Speaker 1: Scout's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse in twenty fifteen and
- 8:21Speaker 1: College road tripy eighteen in two thousand and eight. According
- 8:26Speaker 1: to LinkedIn, she's presently an adjunct professor teaching screenwriting one
- 8:29Speaker 1: oh one at Los Angeles Valley College. Also per her LinkedIn,
- 8:35Speaker 1: she is the co writer on a project for Hallmark
- 8:39Speaker 1: Media called There's a Cake in My Future, which I
- 8:42Speaker 1: could not find any additional information about other than it's
- 8:46Speaker 1: a book, so she's obviously adapting it, but nothing about
- 8:50Speaker 1: it being connected to Hallmark other than her LinkedIn. Emmi
- 8:55Speaker 1: Mochizuki appears to be Carrie's writing partner, as Emmy has
- 8:58Speaker 1: the exact same writing credits.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Hillary Burton plays Terry.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Hillary has thirty four acting credits, including previous Hallmark movies
- 9:06Speaker 1: like Surprised, I Loved, and Naughty or Nice. She played
- 9:11Speaker 1: Peyton Scott in one hundred and thirty episodes of One
- 9:15Speaker 1: Tree Hill, as well as twenty five episodes of White Collar.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Hillary has been absent from Hallmark for several years after
- 9:24Speaker 1: being quote let go from Hallmark Media in January twenty nineteen.
- 9:28Speaker 1: She says she was fired from a movie for being
- 9:31Speaker 1: outspoken about the lack of diversity on set. Makes me
- 9:35Speaker 1: like her even more. Have you ever seen White Collar?
- 9:38Speaker 2: No?
- 9:39Speaker 1: Netflix is pushing it hard to me lately, but I'm
- 9:43Speaker 1: deep into the Resident and I cannot be its way.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Season three, Baby, Oh wow, you've you've surpassed me.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't stop. Won't stop.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Victor Webster plays Matthew or chef Cubid If You're nasty?
- 9:57Speaker 2: Wowie's AOI.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Victor has a whopping ninety two acting credits. We most
- 10:02Speaker 1: recently saw him in One Bad Apple, Hannah Swinston Mystery. Finally,
- 10:07Speaker 1: this movie was filmed in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. First impression
- 10:12Speaker 1: is this peak Victor Webster?
- 10:15Speaker 2: Hot? Damn?
- 10:16Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 10:18Speaker 2: All I think about is that pool scene? Sorry?
- 10:20Speaker 1: Who wowe Zowie? Yeah, he looks great. I on mine
- 10:26Speaker 1: is if fake Nantucket is Kanucket, what do we call
- 10:31Speaker 1: fake France? What do you call it?
- 10:35Speaker 2: Wait? This is like a riddle.
- 10:36Speaker 1: If fake Nantucket is fan Tucket, then what do we
- 10:41Speaker 1: call fake France?
- 10:43Speaker 2: France? I'm sorry? What did you like about this movie? Okay?
- 10:52Speaker 2: So I thought this was.
- 10:54Speaker 1: A really lovely movie and lovely to look at. Of course,
- 10:59Speaker 1: there were like a familiar homework trope, but there was
- 11:03Speaker 1: something about it I didn't feel like Terry's success and
- 11:07Speaker 1: happiness was a result of.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Meeting Chef Cupid.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Yeah, but like his presence did awaken her, or like
- 11:15Speaker 1: awaken something in her, and that transformation was nice to watch,
- 11:21Speaker 1: lovely to watch.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Agree.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Yeah, tropes aren't all bad, particularly when they're done well,
- 11:26Speaker 1: and this one was done really well.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Oh okay, what you didn't think?
- 11:31Speaker 1: So when I'll get to it and I wished for oh,
- 11:34Speaker 1: all right, well I just mean the uh oh, we're
- 11:39Speaker 1: both at a villa in France. I actually thought when
- 11:44Speaker 1: let me back up, when she opened, when she looks
- 11:45Speaker 1: outside and sees him swimming, I'm like, come on, how
- 11:48Speaker 1: does he not know? But then they have the conversation
- 11:51Speaker 1: with the sister and she's like, you didn't tell mom
- 11:54Speaker 1: and dad you were going.
- 11:55Speaker 2: I told mom and dad. I was given my.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Week about it. A little miscommunication, understandable miscommunications. Yes, not
- 12:02Speaker 1: the most unbelievable story. But one thing I really loved
- 12:06Speaker 1: that has absolutely nothing to do with that that was
- 12:08Speaker 1: a surprise to me was the relationship that Abby and
- 12:12Speaker 1: Chef Cupid developed. Probably shouldn't call him chef cubid in
- 12:15Speaker 1: this instance. Yeah, Matthew, Yeah, Abby and Matthew I thought
- 12:20Speaker 1: it was great.
- 12:21Speaker 2: I actually really liked Abby's character. I thought she played
- 12:25Speaker 2: a great.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Believable teenager, and I think it was more believable to
- 12:30Speaker 1: me that she was able to develop her relationship with
- 12:33Speaker 1: someone else other than her mother. And I liked that
- 12:37Speaker 1: do we had this whole other storyline. It didn't involve
- 12:39Speaker 1: Terry having to be like, oh, let me help you
- 12:42Speaker 1: find your passion as a chef with these flavors like,
- 12:45Speaker 1: she didn't have to be a part of that. They
- 12:47Speaker 1: were able to help each other without having to actually
- 12:50Speaker 1: partake in each other's careers, and I liked that.
- 12:53Speaker 2: I agree.
- 12:53Speaker 1: I really enjoyed Abby. The character of Abby. I liked
- 12:58Speaker 1: that there were typical teenage struggles that she was dealing with,
- 13:03Speaker 1: but also she was very engaged with like these adults
- 13:07Speaker 1: in her life, and she wasn't like this nasty like, eh,
- 13:10Speaker 1: let me be on my phone and I hate everybody.
- 13:12Speaker 2: It just was.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Refreshing to see she didn't fall into like a stereotype.
- 13:19Speaker 1: And I do like that relationship between she and chef Matthew.
- 13:23Speaker 1: I thought her friend heartbreak was really well played too.
- 13:27Speaker 1: I thought it was very believable, and I also thought
- 13:30Speaker 1: that her turning on her mother in that moment, she
- 13:33Speaker 1: came to her, she needed a hug, she needed to cry,
- 13:36Speaker 1: and then she blamed her for it. Oh, very believable.
- 13:39Speaker 4: Yes, I agree, I agree.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Something else, I like there was something about the way
- 13:43Speaker 1: this movie was directed. And I hate saying this, but
- 13:46Speaker 1: it looked like a real movie to me, especially in
- 13:49Speaker 1: the opening scenes when we have Terry like frustrated with
- 13:52Speaker 1: writing right and she's frustrated with her daughter.
- 13:55Speaker 2: I wish I knew more.
- 13:56Speaker 1: About directing to be able to like articulate why and
- 13:59Speaker 1: how it was different, But it just looked different compared
- 14:04Speaker 1: to other Hallmark movies. Yeah, the framing of the shots
- 14:07Speaker 1: is I think, really well done. I agree one hundred
- 14:10Speaker 1: percent from that. And I gotta say it like, I've loved,
- 14:14Speaker 1: loved that scene where she goes to the bar to
- 14:17Speaker 1: meet him on this blind date. It's very like she
- 14:21Speaker 1: looks Hillary Burton, Terry looks very sexy coming out of
- 14:26Speaker 1: this cab and sitting at the bar. She's very flirty.
- 14:28Speaker 1: He's walking up. Of course he chooses somebody else. I
- 14:33Speaker 1: love that whole scene.
- 14:35Speaker 2: No, you didn't like it, I liked it. It moved me.
- 14:39Speaker 2: I thought it was good. I thought it was good acting.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I liked her talking to his back, like when
- 14:45Speaker 1: he's talking to who he thinks his his days, Yes,
- 14:48Speaker 1: answering him.
- 14:49Speaker 2: That was clever.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Yes, I liked it as well. I think there's some
- 14:53Speaker 1: good one liners in this movie. I actually am surprised
- 14:55Speaker 1: that the writers didn't do more. When Terry is talking
- 14:59Speaker 1: to her friend Matthew's sister, and she's like, he doesn't
- 15:02Speaker 1: want the right.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Girl, he just wants the next girl. And then she
- 15:06Speaker 2: says to.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Him, you can't let them take anything from you when
- 15:10Speaker 1: she's talking about bad reviews, which is something that she
- 15:13Speaker 1: can obviously personally relate to as a writer, and I
- 15:17Speaker 1: think that advice also applies to her daughter when her
- 15:21Speaker 1: friends are talking about her on social media. I thought
- 15:24Speaker 1: there was some well placed lines. Yeah, I am kind
- 15:27Speaker 1: of disappointed that these two writers haven't written more from Hallmark.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Counterpoint to that, I did read some reviews on I
- 15:36Speaker 1: was gonna say yelp on IMDb, and of course, you know,
- 15:40Speaker 1: you get the worst over there. Some people were complaining
- 15:42Speaker 1: that the characters were too whiny, and I was like, what,
- 15:48Speaker 1: I didn't think they were whiny at all. And yeah,
- 15:50Speaker 1: I was like, no, this is wrong anyway, wrong, You're wrong.
- 15:55Speaker 1: I thought Hillary Burton was fantastic in this. I wish
- 15:58Speaker 1: she would give the network another chance. I think they've
- 16:01Speaker 1: made great strides over there.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Yeah, but do you think they want her back?
- 16:07Speaker 1: Well? I think her problem was with Bill Abbott because
- 16:09Speaker 1: the article I did read said like it comes from
- 16:13Speaker 1: the top, yes, you know what I mean. Yeah, And
- 16:16Speaker 1: so that top is no longer there, and they have
- 16:21Speaker 1: other people there who are.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Moving in a different direction.
- 16:24Speaker 1: So I just wish maybe they could meet in the
- 16:27Speaker 1: middle somewhere. Yeah. I think she's great. I think she's
- 16:30Speaker 1: a great grounding force for the network.
- 16:33Speaker 2: I really like her. I liked her in that.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Kind of weird Paul Campbell movie that we watched, Surprise
- 16:38Speaker 1: My Love. Yeah, I think she's really good. You know
- 16:42Speaker 1: what's interesting too, is like she's really good friends with
- 16:45Speaker 1: Bethany joy Lynz. So you know, they work together for
- 16:49Speaker 1: a really long time on One Tree Hill, and I
- 16:50Speaker 1: think they I don't know if it's still is in production,
- 16:55Speaker 1: but they had a podcast together recapping One Tree Hill. Yes,
- 17:00Speaker 1: So I was like, Bethany does a lot of work
- 17:02Speaker 1: with the network. You would think like that would be
- 17:05Speaker 1: a yeah, avenue there, I don't enough. Finally, for me,
- 17:09Speaker 1: Victor was great, very happy. I like him more and
- 17:14Speaker 1: more me too. I don't even remember when we first
- 17:18Speaker 1: met Victor. Can you recall it might have been the
- 17:21Speaker 1: wedding veil to be? Maybe? Of course we knew him
- 17:24Speaker 1: before we knew him because we watched work in Moms indeed,
- 17:28Speaker 1: but Victor in a Hallmark role is what I'm referring to. Yeah,
- 17:33Speaker 1: I think he's great for the network. Anything else you liked, Nope,
- 17:36Speaker 1: let's talk wishes. So for me, and I mentioned it earlier,
- 17:41Speaker 1: it's old tropes. And that's the problem with these older
- 17:45Speaker 1: movies from twenty sixteen.
- 17:48Speaker 2: I think, like.
- 17:49Speaker 1: We're subjected to these like tired tropes, Like we're not
- 17:54Speaker 1: that the new movies don't have them, but like they
- 17:57Speaker 1: just seem so obvious to me, and they make me
- 18:00Speaker 1: a little irrationally angry. I guess, I don't know. We've
- 18:04Speaker 1: got these two people who can't stand each other, and
- 18:06Speaker 1: then they end up spending the entire time in the
- 18:08Speaker 1: same house of falling in love or like the whole
- 18:11Speaker 1: miscommunication not even a miscommunication, but when Terry assumes Sath
- 18:16Speaker 1: Matthew isn't the dude because he gets a job opportunity,
- 18:20Speaker 1: like she feels like.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Oh he's going to go away and yes, now. My
- 18:25Speaker 2: least favorite is the lack of communication. Yeah exactly.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you probably shouldn't read romance novels because they just
- 18:33Speaker 1: take these tropes and recycle them heavily.
- 18:35Speaker 2: I can't stand it, so I don't.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Yeah, enemy still Lovers is typically my least favorite, mostly because,
- 18:42Speaker 1: as I've we've talked about it before, you have to
- 18:44Speaker 1: make a big leap for me to believe it that
- 18:45Speaker 1: you've made that jump, and sometimes in an hour and
- 18:48Speaker 1: twenty minutes, we don't have enough time to do that.
- 18:50Speaker 2: I do think they did it well. I was rooting
- 18:52Speaker 2: for them, but it is.
- 18:55Speaker 1: One of the harder hurdles to overcome for me, as
- 18:59Speaker 1: of you are right.
- 19:01Speaker 2: What about you?
- 19:01Speaker 1: What did you wish for? Well, at the end of
- 19:04Speaker 1: the movie, Matthew says like, I want to know, you know,
- 19:07Speaker 1: this is our story. I want to know what happens next,
- 19:10Speaker 1: and Yemmi too, because what's the plan. Obviously you're not
- 19:15Speaker 1: gonna go on tour making dinner for a different single
- 19:18Speaker 1: woman in a different city like that sounds like a
- 19:20Speaker 1: terrible idea, honestly, Like, don't do that. I mean, you
- 19:23Speaker 1: guys just gonna go back to New York and like
- 19:26Speaker 1: live and work there. That's cool, But like, what's gonna
- 19:28Speaker 1: happen with their friend's restaurant. I don't know what's going
- 19:31Speaker 1: to happen to his restaurant in New York.
- 19:33Speaker 2: There's a lot of questions here. This movie could use
- 19:36Speaker 2: some answers.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Maybe he didn't own that restaurant and that's why he
- 19:39Speaker 1: was able to bounce after his bad review. Maybe he
- 19:42Speaker 1: was just the like executive chef at.
- 19:44Speaker 2: That restaurant, you know how that how that is? Yet
- 19:48Speaker 2: you actually get.
- 19:49Speaker 1: That vibe like he's there when they're getting ready for
- 19:52Speaker 1: the day. It was a little unclear to me, But.
- 19:54Speaker 2: You're right, I yeah, what's next? What's a plan?
- 19:57Speaker 1: He's like, I could cook anywhere? Okay, well she can
- 20:01Speaker 1: write anywhere. But you also have a teenager here that
- 20:03Speaker 1: you need to consider as well. Exctly, yeah, any other wishes?
- 20:07Speaker 2: No, hey, look at that.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Let's move on to digit see that I have a few.
- 20:12Speaker 2: I only have two.
- 20:13Speaker 1: So well, first of all, they're like fawning over the
- 20:17Speaker 1: quality of these sweetbreads, and they're not explaining what sweetbreads
- 20:21Speaker 1: are to people who may or may not know. And
- 20:23Speaker 1: I'm like, no, disgusting, sorry, Like this comes from a
- 20:27Speaker 1: girl who would never and then they like feed them
- 20:30Speaker 1: to Terry without her knowing what they are.
- 20:33Speaker 2: That's just cruel. Yeah.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Did it remind you of the nine O two to
- 20:38Speaker 1: zero in France moment where the eight brains?
- 20:40Speaker 2: Sure, of course it's brains. I can just picture that. Yep,
- 20:46Speaker 2: just don spits it out, bits it out. Yet no,
- 20:48Speaker 2: thank you.
- 20:48Speaker 1: What else it's a minor complaint. It's when he's lounging
- 20:53Speaker 1: by the pool and they think that's so funny, hijiinks
- 20:58Speaker 1: Terry and the daughter Abby and they like flip over
- 21:01Speaker 1: the chair and he is asleep and falls into the pool.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Like how terrifying would that be? I would be so mad.
- 21:07Speaker 1: I would be so pissed, first of all, and then second,
- 21:10Speaker 1: like they flip the whole chair over. But in the
- 21:13Speaker 1: next shot, like the chair is sitting there and like
- 21:15Speaker 1: his book and talent everything is on it. So it's
- 21:17Speaker 1: like that stuff didn't go in the pool, just him
- 21:20Speaker 1: just well, what I noticed in that scene is he's
- 21:22Speaker 1: holding a book and Terry like reaches for the book
- 21:25Speaker 1: as they're flipping him over. Oh so I wonder if
- 21:28Speaker 1: they just like tipped the lounger and then like tipped
- 21:30Speaker 1: it back. I don't know, but whatever. Yeah, I was like,
- 21:34Speaker 1: don't throw the book in the pool and then you
- 21:36Speaker 1: can see her hand.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Got it ground. Could you imagine.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Like that could give me PTSD for the rest of
- 21:44Speaker 1: that seriously, Like that's the end.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Our relationship is over. Don't look. We have a rule
- 21:48Speaker 2: in my house.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Don't sneak up on me, like, don't hide from me.
- 21:51Speaker 1: That's not that's not funny, not funny, not cool.
- 21:55Speaker 2: A couple just little moments in the beginning of the movie.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Matthew's at work and he's gonna go on his date
- 22:02Speaker 1: and he like walks through the kitchen and he grabs
- 22:04Speaker 1: his suit or his coat like off a hook in
- 22:07Speaker 1: the middle of the kitchen. It's like a terrible place
- 22:09Speaker 1: for your clothing. Just got to say, even if it
- 22:11Speaker 1: stays clean, it's gonna smell like a kitchen.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:16Speaker 1: I laughed out loud at the giant old key ring
- 22:20Speaker 1: that the sister hands to Terry. She's like, oh, yes,
- 22:22Speaker 1: say it. Our family's a state in France and it's
- 22:24Speaker 1: like a giant rusty key. No, did they bring it
- 22:28Speaker 1: back from eighteen fourteen? Seriously, it's like to Caribans bring
- 22:34Speaker 1: it back?
- 22:35Speaker 2: You know that key?
- 22:37Speaker 1: Yes, it's seriously like the dog with the keys in
- 22:41Speaker 1: Pirates of the Caribbean on the ride, like outside of
- 22:43Speaker 1: the Jails, sell Terry is recognized by so many people,
- 22:46Speaker 1: and I'm just gonna say, writers aren't that recognizable, Like
- 22:51Speaker 1: maybe if I introduces herself but physically by name, like
- 22:55Speaker 1: oh are you Terry? No, I'm sorry, nobody knows what
- 23:00Speaker 1: these writers look like.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean remember last.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Week's movie Blind Day book Club, like Robert Buckley who
- 23:05Speaker 1: played the Yeah, I had written this like Blockbuster smash
- 23:09Speaker 1: series and the bookshop owner doesn't recognize him.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Come on, it's just no. And finally they get.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Into that little sporty coop to drive away. It's a
- 23:19Speaker 1: very hairy and Megan moment to me because it reminded
- 23:21Speaker 1: me of the card they drove away from their wedding
- 23:23Speaker 1: in if you remember anyway, they don't wear seat belts.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Oh not even a lap belt.
- 23:29Speaker 1: They didn't chill them putting one on, and he like
- 23:32Speaker 1: peels out of that driveway. I was like careful, put
- 23:34Speaker 1: your seatbelts on. Bad things happened even in the fake
- 23:38Speaker 1: French countryside, of course, of course, even on movie sets,
- 23:44Speaker 1: even on movies. Right, Okay, what'd you rate this one
- 23:47Speaker 1: four stars? I gave it three point seventy five. Oh
- 23:51Speaker 1: I that is not a bad rating.
- 23:54Speaker 2: I I know it was. It was. Okay. Here's here's
- 23:59Speaker 2: where I'm to get defensive.
- 24:00Speaker 1: I'm getting no, it was probably a really excellent movie
- 24:04Speaker 1: for twenty sixteen.
- 24:06Speaker 2: The bar has been raised. I think the bar has
- 24:08Speaker 2: been raised. Yeah, I really liked it.
- 24:11Speaker 1: But I agree with you, but I really liked it.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I liked it too.
