Mega Edition: Jeffrey Epstein's Death And The Broken System That Allowed It (8/25/26) · The Epstein Chronicles

Speaker 1: The Department of Justice and the Bureau of Prisons is
0:04
Speaker 1: an absolute dumpster fire. Could it be any more pathetic
0:12
Speaker 1: what goes on within these organizations. Now we know the
0:22
Speaker 1: Justice Department, the laws are absolutely backwards most of the time,
0:26
Speaker 1: they're rigged. The courts are all screwed up. So we
0:31
Speaker 1: know that, and unfortunately, if you're paying attention, you also
0:36
Speaker 1: know that the Bureau of Prisons is screwed up as well.
0:41
Speaker 1: I'm not even going to get into for profit prisons
0:44
Speaker 1: or anything like that. That's in a different vein, but
0:48
Speaker 1: in general, the Bureau of Prisons is an absolute shit show.
0:54
Speaker 1: It should have been fixed a long time ago. When
0:58
Speaker 1: people go to prison, they should go there with the
1:00
Speaker 1: hope of some sort of rebility to rehabilitate themselves. But
1:06
Speaker 1: that's not how it works, right. These people go to
1:08
Speaker 1: these prisons and you go in there for one crime,
1:11
Speaker 1: and you come out of there and you're an arch criminal.
1:16
Speaker 1: And the people who run these prisons are clowns for
1:20
Speaker 1: the most part. I hate to say it, but they
1:22
Speaker 1: are clowns. I'd say that a lot of the guards
1:26
Speaker 1: themselves are good people, right, And I'd say that a
1:29
Speaker 1: lot of the administrators are probably good people and they
1:32
Speaker 1: want to do the right thing, but the bosses, like
1:34
Speaker 1: in every single one of these other bureaucracies, are all
1:39
Speaker 1: seemingly up to no good. And the article we're going
1:44
Speaker 1: to talk about tonight, we're gonna see that once again.
1:48
Speaker 1: The warden who took over at the MCC after the
1:53
Speaker 1: Epstein situation to clean things up, well she's out now
1:57
Speaker 1: after about a year, after more allegations have come down,
2:02
Speaker 1: more people have brought a pointing finger towards the jail
2:07
Speaker 1: about the treatment of prisoners, contraband getting in there, all
2:12
Speaker 1: kinds of wild shit. And you mean to tell me
2:18
Speaker 1: that this is the best we can do with all
2:20
Speaker 1: of the money that gets pumped into the Bureau of Prisons.
2:25
Speaker 1: I mean, I want to say that they have like
2:27
Speaker 1: one of the largest budgets outside of the Defense Department.
2:31
Speaker 1: And this is the kind of quality and shit that
2:33
Speaker 1: we get. We need a complete overhaul, We need a
2:39
Speaker 1: complete audit, a complete overhaul, and we need to find
2:42
Speaker 1: a system that works because I don't know about you, folks,
2:46
Speaker 1: but I'm tired of wasting money, just throwing it into
2:49
Speaker 1: a black hole and having people go to these jails,
2:52
Speaker 1: go to these prisons never had, never rehabilitate themselves, come out,
2:58
Speaker 1: and then repeat the cycle over and over again, while
3:01
Speaker 1: some dickbag hedge fund hedge fund guy who's involved in
3:06
Speaker 1: these for profit prisons continues to get rich. I'm tired
3:10
Speaker 1: of all of that jazz. So this needs to be overhauled.
3:14
Speaker 1: There needs to be a new system in place, some
3:18
Speaker 1: sort of accountability for these people in charge, not just
3:25
Speaker 1: stepping down. I mean, at the very least, if you're
3:27
Speaker 1: in charge of one of these shitholes that's being run
3:30
Speaker 1: like the prison in that movie Midnight Express Over in
3:35
Speaker 1: Turkey when the dude got caught for smuggling hash or whatever.
3:40
Speaker 1: If you're running a facility like that in the United
3:43
Speaker 1: States of America, then you need to be held accountable
3:47
Speaker 1: for that. And that doesn't mean just retire. Maybe you
3:50
Speaker 1: lose your pension. And if there are criminal accounts that
3:53
Speaker 1: you can be held accountable for, then that as well.
3:56
Speaker 1: But at the very least, they have to be made
3:59
Speaker 1: to know that if they don't run a tight ship,
4:02
Speaker 1: if they don't have all of their ducks in a
4:04
Speaker 1: row and they are people doing the right thing, then
4:07
Speaker 1: they're going to feel the pain in the purse at
4:09
Speaker 1: the very least, because unfortunately, it seems like a lot
4:15
Speaker 1: of these people who get these jobs are just in
4:18
Speaker 1: it to cruise through, get that pension, and move on.
4:24
Speaker 1: Because how could it be possible that all of these
4:27
Speaker 1: people that come through these places, all of these wardens,
4:30
Speaker 1: in all of these prisons can Are they all just
4:33
Speaker 1: completely moronic? Or is there a lot of greed that's
4:39
Speaker 1: going along with it as well? Again, I don't know.
4:42
Speaker 1: I don't have any direct information pointing to that, but
4:46
Speaker 1: you know how these bureaucrats work. There's a lot of
4:49
Speaker 1: eating at the trough, a lot of wetton of the beak.
4:52
Speaker 1: And it might not be your usual, oh, showing up
4:55
Speaker 1: with an envelope to bribe somebody or whatever, but there's
4:59
Speaker 1: other ways. Right, you get this contract, you get that contract.
5:02
Speaker 1: I put in a word for you. Here, I put
5:04
Speaker 1: in a word for you there. I'm the warden. I'm
5:06
Speaker 1: the one who decides what food company comes in here.
5:09
Speaker 1: You got my drift. So we got to make sure
5:12
Speaker 1: that the people that in those positions are accountable and
5:16
Speaker 1: if they get out of line, they have to be
5:18
Speaker 1: held accountable in a very transparent way so that the
5:23
Speaker 1: taxpayer can see how their tax dollars are being spent
5:26
Speaker 1: and they're not just being wasted while people like Jeffrey
5:29
Speaker 1: Epstein are being killed while in the custody of the
5:32
Speaker 1: United States government. Our article tonight is from the AP
5:41
Speaker 1: and the headline warden out after new allegations at embattled
5:46
Speaker 1: federal jail. This article was authored by Michael R. Sissak,
5:52
Speaker 1: Jim Mustian, and Michael Balsamo. The warden brought in to
5:59
Speaker 1: clean up the federal jail well where Jeffrey Epstein killed
6:02
Speaker 1: himself allegedly, has abruptly stepped down after a year long
6:07
Speaker 1: tenure marred by the rampant spread of the coronavirus, inmates
6:11
Speaker 1: complaints about squalid conditions, a smuggled gun, and an inmate's death.
6:17
Speaker 1: So I'm willing to give them a pass on the
6:20
Speaker 1: coronavirus situation, because how are you supposed to control that, right?
6:24
Speaker 1: What are you supposed to do? Put everybody in a
6:29
Speaker 1: fish bowl with an oxygen tube running into it and
6:33
Speaker 1: they can never take it off. So I can't really
6:36
Speaker 1: get too upset about the whole COVID situation there now.
6:42
Speaker 1: The squalid conditions, on the other hand, I guess that
6:46
Speaker 1: would depend what are considered squalid conditions. You guys all
6:51
Speaker 1: know how I feel about this. I feel like the
6:54
Speaker 1: conditions in the jail should be livable conditions. Right. It's
6:59
Speaker 1: bad enough that, you know, we have to put people
7:02
Speaker 1: in jail, you know, unfortunately a lot of people have
7:06
Speaker 1: left society no choice. But at the same time, I
7:10
Speaker 1: think that a facility where the everything's bad, you know,
7:19
Speaker 1: the conditions are horrible, the guards are abusive, I don't
7:25
Speaker 1: think that does anyone any good, right, So I think
7:27
Speaker 1: it should be a professional environment with a set of rules,
7:31
Speaker 1: a set of guidelines that everybody has to follow, all
7:33
Speaker 1: of the guards. You know, one federal prison shouldn't have
7:36
Speaker 1: its own way of doing things compared to another. Everything
7:39
Speaker 1: should have a unified code and everyone should be held
7:43
Speaker 1: to a certain standard as far as guards, and especially
7:47
Speaker 1: for these bureaucrats that get these jobs and then when
7:51
Speaker 1: shit goes south like this, they just step down. So
7:55
Speaker 1: there needs to be some sort of across the board
8:00
Speaker 1: regulation where each one of these prisons has to get
8:04
Speaker 1: on and get going with the same exact guidelines as
8:08
Speaker 1: the next one. Now I'm talking about the federal prisons.
8:12
Speaker 1: State prisons are a little bit different, right, each one's
8:14
Speaker 1: going to have its own needs and blah blah blah.
8:16
Speaker 1: But with the federal prisons, they can make it uniformed
8:20
Speaker 1: and make it very transparent so the people see exactly
8:23
Speaker 1: what's going on, and then we can understand where the
8:26
Speaker 1: money's being spent, how it's being spent, and all of
8:29
Speaker 1: that jazz, because, folks, I'm not even messing around. We
8:32
Speaker 1: pump a lot of money into keeping people incarcerated in
8:36
Speaker 1: this country, and that definitely needs to be looked at.
8:41
Speaker 1: There needs to be serious prison reform in this country,
8:44
Speaker 1: no doubt about it. Marty lecon Vitally fifty four, quit
8:50
Speaker 1: the Metropolitan Correctional Center this week. Her abrupt departure came
8:56
Speaker 1: about a week after staff at the jail left an
8:59
Speaker 1: inmate who lawyer says he has the mental capacity of
9:02
Speaker 1: an eight year old child in a holding cell for
9:04
Speaker 1: twenty four hours while awaiting a competency evaluation, a violation
9:09
Speaker 1: of prison system regulations. Well it should be a violation.
9:15
Speaker 1: I mean, this person has the capacity of an eight
9:17
Speaker 1: year old child. Get him in there, let's get a
9:19
Speaker 1: doctor to see him, and let's get it moving right.
9:22
Speaker 1: I mean, again, just basic humanity is all I'm talking
9:25
Speaker 1: about here. I'm not saying they should have an Xbox
9:29
Speaker 1: in their cell. I'm not saying that they should be
9:31
Speaker 1: drinking you know, lattes and ordering pizzas. Of course not.
9:35
Speaker 1: They got to pay their debt to society. You know,
9:38
Speaker 1: you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes. But that
9:41
Speaker 1: doesn't mean that the conditions shouldn't be humane, right, The
9:46
Speaker 1: condition should always be humane, and it should be a
9:49
Speaker 1: professional atmosphere like any other job. These dudes who show
9:54
Speaker 1: up there as guards or whatever, they shouldn't be showing
9:56
Speaker 1: up with an Axtra grind. Ever. They shouldn't look at
9:59
Speaker 1: these people as a animals, none of it. They should
10:02
Speaker 1: look at them as, look, this is my job. I'm
10:05
Speaker 1: here to do a job. Unfortunately, you screwed up. You
10:07
Speaker 1: didn't follow the rules, so your job is to stay
10:11
Speaker 1: in that cell. But a lot of times we don't
10:15
Speaker 1: see that professionalism. And I think a lot of that
10:18
Speaker 1: starts at the top. If that's not coming down from
10:21
Speaker 1: your boss, If your boss is an absolute douche, like
10:24
Speaker 1: a lot of these people obviously are, then that's going
10:27
Speaker 1: to trickle down right to the people underneath him, to
10:31
Speaker 1: his supervisors, the managers, everybody. You know, they take their
10:35
Speaker 1: lead from their boss. So I think a lot of
10:39
Speaker 1: the accountability comes from these bureaucrats, and unfortunately we don't
10:44
Speaker 1: see any of that. I mean stepping down. Why should
10:48
Speaker 1: this person step down? They should have been fired, never
10:50
Speaker 1: mind stepping down. And in the last few weeks, directional
11:00
Speaker 1: officer at the facility had also reported sexual misconduct by
11:04
Speaker 1: a superior, which officials at the jail delayed reporting to
11:08
Speaker 1: senior Bureau of Prisons officials, according to three people familiar
11:13
Speaker 1: with the matter. And again, why let this person, Marty
11:17
Speaker 1: Lacone vitally the warden who supposedly stepped down. Why let
11:22
Speaker 1: them save face by saying they step down. Why not say, look,
11:26
Speaker 1: we fired them. They screwed up, they didn't do the
11:29
Speaker 1: right thing. Now we're holding them accountable. This is already
11:34
Speaker 1: the place where Epstein was died, so I think it
11:39
Speaker 1: would behoove everybody for some accountability here. And when it
11:45
Speaker 1: always makes me shake my head when they let these
11:48
Speaker 1: people do the whole Oh yeah, well I've decided to
11:50
Speaker 1: step down, as if we don't know what that means.
11:54
Speaker 1: So if they step down, they still get their pension,
11:56
Speaker 1: one lass at a boy on the back on the
11:58
Speaker 1: way out of the Old, the Old I want to
12:00
Speaker 1: be Elites Club. The people could not discuss that matter
12:07
Speaker 1: publicly and spoke to the Associated Press on a condition
12:10
Speaker 1: of anonymity. The man who was left in the holding cell,
12:15
Speaker 1: Richard Quinn twenty six, made friends with Mice during the
12:18
Speaker 1: agonizing weight. His attorney, Peter Brill said. He said the
12:22
Speaker 1: top officials at the jail had failed to report the
12:25
Speaker 1: violation to their superiors at the Bureau of Prisons. Doesn't
12:29
Speaker 1: shock me one bit. This is the same place where
12:31
Speaker 1: we had people falling asleep, and what we think that
12:34
Speaker 1: was the first time when those guards fell asleep while
12:37
Speaker 1: they're supposed to be watching Jeffrey Epstein. That's the first
12:40
Speaker 1: time it's ever happened. Huh, Just so happens the first
12:43
Speaker 1: time these people decide to nap Epstein's clipped. Come on,
12:49
Speaker 1: it's something that happened there all the time. And I'm
12:51
Speaker 1: sure it wasn't just them. I'm sure it was something
12:54
Speaker 1: everybody was up to. And I'm sure that their boss
12:58
Speaker 1: is even new and their bosses probably just shook their
13:00
Speaker 1: head about it. Oh you know though, that's just the
13:02
Speaker 1: way those guys do it. So, like I said from
13:09
Speaker 1: the jump, I think that whoever the bosses were who
13:12
Speaker 1: were on duty that night, supervisors, manager on duty, all
13:17
Speaker 1: of them. If the guards got arrested and they got fired,
13:20
Speaker 1: then these people should all be arrested and fired too.
13:23
Speaker 1: And don't even get me started on the people who
13:25
Speaker 1: were in charge of the video. The cameras are pointed
13:28
Speaker 1: out the wrong cell, they lost evidence. Who's in charge
13:32
Speaker 1: of the chain of custody? How come that person has
13:34
Speaker 1: never been held responsible. It's almost like they don't care,
13:39
Speaker 1: or like they're bullshitting us. The Bureau of Prisons would
13:51
Speaker 1: not directly address the allegations, but in a statement, the
13:55
Speaker 1: agency said it was committed to ensharing the safety and
13:58
Speaker 1: humane treatment of all in in our population, our staff,
14:02
Speaker 1: and the public, adding that allegations of staff misconduct are
14:07
Speaker 1: thoroughly investigated and appropriate action is taken if such allegations
14:11
Speaker 1: are proven true, including the possibility of referral for criminal
14:16
Speaker 1: prosecution when appropriate. So I guess it's never appropriate unless
14:20
Speaker 1: you're just the two guards who fell asleep that night.
14:23
Speaker 1: I guess that's the only time it's appropriate, because it
14:26
Speaker 1: certainly should be appropriate for their bosses. And what about
14:30
Speaker 1: the people in charge of this stuff over here? Right,
14:33
Speaker 1: this lady who is stepping down, she's in charge of
14:38
Speaker 1: the whole shebang. She's the boss, she's the warden, she's
14:41
Speaker 1: the big cheese. So when stuff goes south, she has
14:47
Speaker 1: to be the one that's held responsible. And if that
14:50
Speaker 1: is not criminally possible, right, she didn't do anything that's criminal,
14:55
Speaker 1: then she has to be held responsible by losing her pension,
14:59
Speaker 1: a poor repension, something. But there needs to be repercussions
15:05
Speaker 1: for these people in these high profile, very important jobs.
15:10
Speaker 1: You know, it's not These people aren't just showing up
15:12
Speaker 1: and you know, going. They can't just show up and
15:15
Speaker 1: be on autopilot. These are serious jobs that have serious
15:22
Speaker 1: repercussions throughout society. So we need serious people in these positions,
15:27
Speaker 1: people that are trustworthy. The agency said it's employees are
15:34
Speaker 1: required to refrain from harassing conduct, and that employees receive
15:38
Speaker 1: training to detect and prevent inappropriate behavior not only with
15:43
Speaker 1: other staff but also with inmates. All right, look, I
15:47
Speaker 1: don't know how many times people have to tell people this,
15:51
Speaker 1: but leave other people alone in the workplace, especially, what
15:57
Speaker 1: is wrong with you? These people that like go to
16:02
Speaker 1: work and harass their coworkers. I just never understood it, Like,
16:07
Speaker 1: are you that dense and at the Bureau of Prisons
16:15
Speaker 1: you times it by tenfold, right if you're if these
16:19
Speaker 1: dudes working in the female Correctional Center. I've heard some
16:24
Speaker 1: really disgusting, wild stories about what occurs with some of
16:28
Speaker 1: these people. So again, we need to make sure that
16:34
Speaker 1: the people that are being employed by the Bureau of
16:37
Speaker 1: Prisons are good quality folks. And if that means we've
16:41
Speaker 1: got to bump up the pay a little bit, then
16:43
Speaker 1: so be it. Now, obviously there's always going to be
16:46
Speaker 1: some weirdos, some psychos that fall through the crack no
16:49
Speaker 1: matter what you do. So what you try, and you
16:52
Speaker 1: know do is weed out as many of them as
16:55
Speaker 1: possible by having a good benefit package, good pay, making
16:59
Speaker 1: sure that that you know, the people are taken care of.
17:03
Speaker 1: But that's not what we see going on, right, I Mean,
17:07
Speaker 1: I think the pay is decent, but you know, look,
17:11
Speaker 1: there has to be incentives if you want people who
17:14
Speaker 1: are going to do these jobs. And let's face it,
17:17
Speaker 1: who wants to go and spend eight hours a day
17:20
Speaker 1: working in a jail? Right? You know? I can't see
17:23
Speaker 1: myself doing that. There's probably zero chance for me to
17:27
Speaker 1: ever want to do something like that, But if I did,
17:30
Speaker 1: I'd want to be taken care of financially compensated correctly.
17:35
Speaker 1: So maybe that's an option bump up the pay, and
17:38
Speaker 1: perhaps that brings in more quality people who are less
17:42
Speaker 1: inclined to act the fool. In a statement, the Bureau
17:52
Speaker 1: of Prison said Lincoln Vitally has announced her retirement and
17:56
Speaker 1: an interim warden has been assigned until a new warden
17:58
Speaker 1: is appointed. The interim leader is listed in court papers
18:02
Speaker 1: as Eric Williams. He will be the fourth warden at
18:05
Speaker 1: the New York City lockup in eighteen months, and the
18:09
Speaker 1: third person put in charge since a shake up following
18:12
Speaker 1: Epstein's August twenty nineteen death. Imagine that. Think of that.
18:16
Speaker 1: Eighteen months, four people, four people in eighteen months. Not
18:25
Speaker 1: a great track record, not a great track record of
18:29
Speaker 1: people in this very important leadership role. And I wonder why,
18:37
Speaker 1: why is it that they can't find somebody who is
18:40
Speaker 1: of quality character, somebody who is respected enough to come
18:46
Speaker 1: in here and clean this up. I'll tell you why,
18:48
Speaker 1: Because it's systemic. It comes from all the way from
18:51
Speaker 1: the top. This chicken. This fish stinks from the head
18:55
Speaker 1: all the way up from the Department of Justice, rotting
18:57
Speaker 1: all the way down into the Bureau of Prisons, and
19:02
Speaker 1: all the way down into the lower chambers of that organization.
19:09
Speaker 1: These people, I'll tell you, they they're really just abhorrent
19:19
Speaker 1: at what they do. The whole entire Department of Justice
19:23
Speaker 1: is just mind bogglingly bad, in my opinion. Messages seeking
19:30
Speaker 1: comment were sent to Lincoln Vitally. Lincoln Vitally, the former
19:35
Speaker 1: head of the federal prison in Danbury, Connecticut, was appointed
19:39
Speaker 1: warden of the Metropolitan Correctional Center, which had been billed
19:42
Speaker 1: as one of the most secure jails in America, in
19:45
Speaker 1: January of twenty twenty. She took over from an interim
19:49
Speaker 1: warden who replaced Lemene Nadai, the warden in charge at
19:54
Speaker 1: the time of Epstein's suicide, allegedly who was transferred to
19:58
Speaker 1: another job in the agency. And imagine that. Imagine you
20:02
Speaker 1: were at your job, right You're this warden and Epstein
20:05
Speaker 1: dies on your watch, and you just get transferred to
20:08
Speaker 1: a different joint. You don't get fired. I know a
20:13
Speaker 1: lot of you out there have management jobs, and you're
20:15
Speaker 1: just shaking your head right now because of the accountability factor.
20:19
Speaker 1: In the private sector, there is all sorts of accountability.
20:22
Speaker 1: If you're a supervisor or above, you better believe that
20:26
Speaker 1: you're going to be accountable for shit you've never done,
20:31
Speaker 1: stuff you're not even responsible for. But if your employees
20:34
Speaker 1: do it, well, you're now responsible for it via proxy.
20:38
Speaker 1: You're the boss, right, take some responsibility for the project,
20:43
Speaker 1: but not here. You just get transferred on out. What
20:46
Speaker 1: is this? The Catholic Church. Epstein's death, a month after
20:52
Speaker 1: his arrest on child sex trafficking charges, has been a
20:55
Speaker 1: lingering shadow over the six hundred inmate facility in Lower Manhattan.
21:01
Speaker 1: The Justice Department's Inspector General has yet to complete an
21:04
Speaker 1: investigation into lapses that allow the disgraced financier pedophile to
21:09
Speaker 1: end his life. Two correctional officers responsible for monitoring him
21:14
Speaker 1: that night are awaiting trial on charges they lied on
21:18
Speaker 1: prison records because they were sleeping and browsing the Internet
21:23
Speaker 1: instead of doing their jobs. So again, the prison guards,
21:28
Speaker 1: they're going to be the scapegoats. Huh. The warden gets transferred,
21:32
Speaker 1: but the prison guards they're facing felonies right now. Now.
21:37
Speaker 1: Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to take up
21:39
Speaker 1: for the guards here. They deserve to be punished as well,
21:43
Speaker 1: But should they be the only ones that are punished.
21:46
Speaker 1: Why is it always the low man on the totem pole.
21:49
Speaker 1: Why is it always the low person on the totem pole?
21:56
Speaker 1: This ridiculous nonsense where the bosses, the superiors don't take
22:02
Speaker 1: any responsibility, you know, at the federal level. It has
22:06
Speaker 1: to end, It really has to end. Lincoln Vital faced
22:15
Speaker 1: an immense challenge and trying to turn the facility around,
22:18
Speaker 1: hampered by issues such as the coronavirus pandemic and contraband smuggling,
22:23
Speaker 1: as well as staffing shortages and dwindling supplies early in
22:28
Speaker 1: the pandemic. Now again, I can't blame her for that.
22:32
Speaker 1: The pandemic stuff is, you know, nobody knows really what
22:35
Speaker 1: to do with this shit. It's wild, right, Nobody knows
22:38
Speaker 1: how to react, what to do. There's no playbook. You
22:40
Speaker 1: can't go onto the you know, the company website and
22:43
Speaker 1: type in what do I do when there's a coronavirus pandemic?
22:47
Speaker 1: You know, everyone was playing it by ear, going by
22:50
Speaker 1: the skin of their teeth. Nobody knew what the deal was,
22:52
Speaker 1: so we can't really hold that against her. But when
22:55
Speaker 1: it comes to staffing shortages, hell yeah, I'm holding that
22:58
Speaker 1: against her. At the very least. East did she put
23:01
Speaker 1: in for more staff than was she turned down? And
23:04
Speaker 1: if she was, who turned her down? The person who
23:06
Speaker 1: said no should be accountable. See where I'm going with this,
23:10
Speaker 1: The accountability stuff, you know, the stuff that you and
23:12
Speaker 1: I learned in kindergarten. Seems that these people well they
23:17
Speaker 1: don't even they can't even spell it. In March, just
23:22
Speaker 1: before the pandemic prompted federal prisons to halt visitation, the
23:26
Speaker 1: jail went on a week long lockdown after officials got
23:29
Speaker 1: a tip that a gun may have been smuggled inside.
23:33
Speaker 1: Investigators found a handgunned and turned up other banned items
23:36
Speaker 1: such as cell phones, narcotics, and homemade weapons, sparking an
23:41
Speaker 1: ongoing criminal probe into guard misconduct. And again, that's great.
23:47
Speaker 1: If you're one of these guards that's smuggling shit in
23:50
Speaker 1: there like this is orange is the new Black, and
23:53
Speaker 1: you're hanging out over at Litchfield, well you should be
23:56
Speaker 1: penalized to the fullest extent of the law. You should
23:59
Speaker 1: be stript of whatever kind of badge that the correctional
24:02
Speaker 1: officers have, and you should trade your police uniform for
24:07
Speaker 1: a federal jumpsuit accountability. After the gun was discovered, then
24:16
Speaker 1: Attorney General William Darth Barr also launched a Justice Department
24:21
Speaker 1: task force to address criminal misconduct by officers at several
24:25
Speaker 1: correctional facilities. Boy, Darth Barr really loved to launch investigations. Huh,
24:31
Speaker 1: I wonder why you never launched an investigation into Minuchin
24:35
Speaker 1: should probably launch an investigation into himself while we're at it.
24:40
Speaker 1: As the coronavirus took hold, Metropolitan Correctional Center, employees weren't
24:44
Speaker 1: able to get masks, while staff restrooms ran out of soap,
24:49
Speaker 1: workers in charge of refilling the dispensers were pressed into
24:52
Speaker 1: duty as correctional officers. Because of staffing shortages. Early in
24:57
Speaker 1: the crisis, more than twenty five percent of staff pass
25:00
Speaker 1: positions were vacant. I mean, what, how's that even possible?
25:06
Speaker 1: This is the United States federal government, folks. They don't
25:09
Speaker 1: have an on callboard. You need to tell me, y'all
25:12
Speaker 1: ain't got no on callboard. So that's something you could
25:15
Speaker 1: fix right away. Sure, there's plenty of people that could
25:17
Speaker 1: use an on call gig a few five shifts a
25:21
Speaker 1: month for some people put them right over the edge.
25:24
Speaker 1: So we don't have an on call board. Why are
25:26
Speaker 1: you down twenty five percent of staff. As a manager,
25:31
Speaker 1: your job is to make sure that shit is staffed.
25:33
Speaker 1: And if that means you have to have some sort
25:35
Speaker 1: of budget fight with whoever you have to have it with,
25:38
Speaker 1: then so be it. What the twenty five percent of
25:43
Speaker 1: staff positions were vacant, it's the federal government paying the dime.
25:48
Speaker 1: They have no problem paying for people to be in prison,
25:50
Speaker 1: they should be able to pay for the people watching them.
25:55
Speaker 1: In May, a court author in May, a court authorized
25:59
Speaker 1: inspection found that inmates with coronavirus symptoms were neglected and ignored,
26:03
Speaker 1: and social distancing was almost nonexistent, with some inmates sleeping
26:08
Speaker 1: on bunks within arm's reach of each other. And this
26:11
Speaker 1: is why it's so important that Maxwell is in solitary confinement,
26:15
Speaker 1: that she's in the shoe, because none of that shit's happening.
26:18
Speaker 1: She's by herself in there, living her fantastic life, the
26:23
Speaker 1: Boloney Sandwich life. In a deposition, Lick and Vitali set
26:31
Speaker 1: isolating ill inmates in the jail special housing, a unit
26:35
Speaker 1: took priority, even as she agreed that conditions in that
26:38
Speaker 1: part of the jail were worse than in regular cells.
26:42
Speaker 1: Lawyers complained that sick inmates were being made to lie
26:45
Speaker 1: on concrete beds and weren't given sheets, blankets, or pillows.
26:49
Speaker 1: It's ridiculous. That kind of shit is ridiculous. Like I've
26:53
Speaker 1: said one hundred million times, humane behavior and humane treatment
26:58
Speaker 1: is a staple right. As much as it feels good
27:02
Speaker 1: to see some scumbag murderer maybe be treated like crap,
27:08
Speaker 1: the idea is not to be part of that right,
27:10
Speaker 1: not to drop to that level. So humane treatment in
27:15
Speaker 1: these jails is a must in my opinion, And with
27:18
Speaker 1: all of the tax dollars being sent on I spent
27:20
Speaker 1: on this shit, you would think that at the very
27:23
Speaker 1: least they would have it. Humane complaints about conditions haven't abated.
27:33
Speaker 1: Defense lawyer Sabrina Schroff wrote to a judge last week
27:37
Speaker 1: about a client being kept in barbaric and inhumane conditions
27:41
Speaker 1: in solitary confinement at the jail. Shroffs at her client,
27:45
Speaker 1: former CIA software engineer Joshua Schulti, who was made to
27:51
Speaker 1: live in a cell of the size of a parking
27:52
Speaker 1: space that is infested with rodents, rodent dropping, cockroaches, and mold,
27:59
Speaker 1: and lacks heating, air conditioning, or functioning plumbing as he
28:02
Speaker 1: awaits trial on charges he leaked government secrets to wiki leaks.
28:07
Speaker 1: So because he might have allegedly leaked some secrets to WikiLeaks,
28:16
Speaker 1: he should live in those conditions rodent droppings, cockroaches, and mold.
28:23
Speaker 1: I don't get it. I don't know how anyone could say, yeah,
28:26
Speaker 1: that's cool, no big deal. It needs to be fixed.
28:31
Speaker 1: It needs to be fixed. As of Thursday, there was
28:37
Speaker 1: just one inmate in thirteen employees sick with the virus
28:40
Speaker 1: at the Metropolitan Correctional Center. According to the Bureau of Prisons.
28:44
Speaker 1: No deaths have been reported at the jail as a
28:47
Speaker 1: result of the disease. Well, I don't know how bad
28:49
Speaker 1: could have been in there. Again, we got to remember
28:52
Speaker 1: that there's always two sides of the story, right there's
28:55
Speaker 1: the side of the Bureau of Prisons, and then there's
28:58
Speaker 1: the side of the story from the lawyers. And the
29:01
Speaker 1: lawyers are always going to want to paint the picture
29:04
Speaker 1: that their clients are being absolutely mistreated, without a doubt mistreated,
29:09
Speaker 1: and the government is going to want to paint the
29:11
Speaker 1: opposite picture. So remember we always got to meet somewhere
29:16
Speaker 1: in the middle with this stuff, and know that both
29:19
Speaker 1: sides are spinning a narrative. The death of inmate Tony
29:24
Speaker 1: mcclam in September was not related to the coronavirus, the
29:28
Speaker 1: Bureau of Prison said, though what happened to him remains unexplained. Mcclam,
29:34
Speaker 1: who was facing drug charges, was found unresponsive just two
29:37
Speaker 1: days after arriving at the facility and could not be saved,
29:41
Speaker 1: the Bureau said. A lawyer for his family said they
29:44
Speaker 1: were still awaiting the results of his autopsy, but that
29:47
Speaker 1: he had complained of medical issues and didn't receive the
29:50
Speaker 1: appropriate medical attention before his death. Look, I don't know
29:56
Speaker 1: anything about that story, so I'm not even going to
29:58
Speaker 1: comment on it. But I know that if it was
30:01
Speaker 1: one of my loved ones or someone I cared about
30:04
Speaker 1: in one of these prisons, I'd want professionals taking care
30:08
Speaker 1: of them, people that are there to do a job,
30:10
Speaker 1: not to have an axe to grind, browse around on
30:16
Speaker 1: the internet, and certainly not to let them live in
30:22
Speaker 1: a place with rodents and rats and all of that jazz.
30:29
Speaker 1: I think that if we let ourselves start doing stuff
30:32
Speaker 1: like that, then as a society as a whole, we're
30:36
Speaker 1: just screwed in general. But when it comes to this
30:41
Speaker 1: facility that Epstein was in, let's remember, as bad as
30:44
Speaker 1: it is, folks, it's not like there has been a
30:48
Speaker 1: bunch of deaths here, a bunch of suicides, any of
30:50
Speaker 1: that stuff. So let's not let them run a narrative like, oh, well,
30:57
Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein dying here was just to be expected because
31:01
Speaker 1: it wasn't, okay, a very rare occurrence, and the Bureau
31:08
Speaker 1: of Prisons, the Department of Justice, and everybody who was involved,
31:13
Speaker 1: as far as bosses on down, all of them need
31:17
Speaker 1: to be held responsible. If you'd like to contact me,
31:22
Speaker 1: you can do that at Bobby Kapucci at ProtonMail dot com.
31:26
Speaker 1: That's bo Bby c ap you Cci at ProtonMail dot com.
31:33
Speaker 1: You can also find me on Twitter at Bobby underscore
31:37
Speaker 1: cap you Cci. All of the links that go at
31:41
Speaker 1: this episode can be found in the description box. Everyone
31:45
Speaker 1: and welcome back to the program. The Bureau of Prisons
31:49
Speaker 1: is absolutely fubar, and the director was up on the
31:53
Speaker 1: hill recently answering questions from the Senate Michael Carvelhall, who
31:59
Speaker 1: is the Bureau of Prisons Director, was sitting before the
32:03
Speaker 1: Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, and look, his answers were very,
32:10
Speaker 1: very very subpar. And somebody who's in control of a
32:15
Speaker 1: broken institution like the Bureau of Prisons has to come
32:21
Speaker 1: with better answers. And if he's not going to be
32:23
Speaker 1: able to do it, if he can't handle this job,
32:26
Speaker 1: we need to find somebody who can. How is it
32:29
Speaker 1: that there hasn't been a complete audit of the Federal
32:33
Speaker 1: Bureau of Prisons when you have high level inmates like
32:37
Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein who find a way to kill themselves or
32:40
Speaker 1: get killed on your watch. Yeah, shit is really really
32:44
Speaker 1: going wrong and things need to be reevaluated. But what
32:49
Speaker 1: do we do instead? We shuffle around these wardens like
32:52
Speaker 1: they're priests and the Catholic Church who've molested people and
32:55
Speaker 1: need to be hidden, send them to different districts, different jails,
33:01
Speaker 1: and nothing gets fixed, nothing gets changed, And then the
33:03
Speaker 1: next time this happens, it'll just be rinse and repeat
33:06
Speaker 1: all over again. And never mind any transparency from the
33:10
Speaker 1: Bureau of Prisons. They're still engaging in their investigation into
33:14
Speaker 1: what happened to Jeffrey Epstein. That's to just tell you
33:17
Speaker 1: everything you need to know about these morons today. Our
33:22
Speaker 1: article is from the Associated Press. Authors of this article,
33:27
Speaker 1: Michael Balsamo and Michael R. Sissak, headline, Prison Chief the
33:33
Speaker 1: flex blame for failures angering Senators well, first and foremost,
33:38
Speaker 1: it's nice to see that the senators can find some time,
33:40
Speaker 1: and they're such busy schedules of dividing the country to
33:44
Speaker 1: actually do something worthwhile here and hold somebody to account,
33:49
Speaker 1: because there's not enough of this going on. If you're
33:52
Speaker 1: a man who is in charge of the Bureau of Prisons,
33:55
Speaker 1: you better damn well be in charge. When I was
33:58
Speaker 1: running sportsbooks, the bus stop with me. Literally. I've told
34:02
Speaker 1: the story before. I was on vacation one time and
34:05
Speaker 1: one of my supervisors missed some paperwork from somebody who
34:08
Speaker 1: had a horse bet that ended up being a signer,
34:11
Speaker 1: and I got called while I was on vacation in
34:13
Speaker 1: Europe over what happened with my supervisor. Because I was
34:18
Speaker 1: the boss, the buck stopped with me. So you mean
34:20
Speaker 1: to tell me at the Bureau of Prisons it's not
34:22
Speaker 1: the same deal, huh? I guess not. With just days
34:28
Speaker 1: left in his tenure. The inbattled director of the federal
34:31
Speaker 1: prison system faced a bipartisan onslaught Tuesday as he refused
34:35
Speaker 1: to accept responsibility for a culture of corruption and misconduct
34:39
Speaker 1: that has plagued his agency for years. Nobody wants to
34:43
Speaker 1: accept responsibility. Ever, You're the only one that has to
34:46
Speaker 1: be responsible, folks. Remember, you gotta pay your taxes. You
34:49
Speaker 1: got to make sure you don't break the law. Don't speed,
34:51
Speaker 1: don't run that red light. But when these people do it, bah,
34:54
Speaker 1: who cares. Just take a look at Mayor Lori lightfoot
34:58
Speaker 1: over in Chicago. A million speeding tickets, a bunch of
35:02
Speaker 1: red light ticke, blown red light tickets, No big deal.
35:05
Speaker 1: But if it was some poor person, they'd have a
35:08
Speaker 1: boot on your car. You'd be in prison, the whole thing.
35:12
Speaker 1: And that's why people are mad now. And it's not
35:14
Speaker 1: just the left or the right, it's the whole entire
35:16
Speaker 1: working class folks. People have had enough. I mean, how
35:21
Speaker 1: much more weight can we bear? Bureau of Prisons Director
35:29
Speaker 1: Michael Carvel Hall, testifying before the Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations,
35:34
Speaker 1: insisted he had been shielded from problems by his underlings
35:38
Speaker 1: even though he'd been copied on emails and some of
35:41
Speaker 1: the troubles were detailed and reports generated by the agency's headquarters.
35:45
Speaker 1: You know, how are you going to have a position
35:47
Speaker 1: like this right if you're not capable of administering this?
35:52
Speaker 1: All the people in this country, all of the great
35:55
Speaker 1: people working in name and industry in asserted here and
36:01
Speaker 1: this is the best we could do. This dumbass, who
36:04
Speaker 1: shouldn't even be running a dollar general is in charge
36:08
Speaker 1: of the prisons. Huh, well, who did he know? How
36:11
Speaker 1: did this bureaucrat swindle his way into this position. Carvel Hall,
36:18
Speaker 1: who resigned in January and is set to be replaced
36:21
Speaker 1: next week by Oregon State Prison Director Collette Peters, blame
36:25
Speaker 1: the size and structure of the Bureau of Prisons for
36:28
Speaker 1: his ignorance on issues such as inmate suicides, sexual abuse,
36:32
Speaker 1: and the free flow of drugs, weapons, and other contraband
36:36
Speaker 1: that has roiled some of the agencies one hundred and
36:39
Speaker 1: twenty two facilities. I mean, really, go try this shit
36:43
Speaker 1: on your with your boss. The next time you guys
36:45
Speaker 1: have a staff meeting, the next time you guys have
36:48
Speaker 1: you know, a quarterly walk into your boss's office and
36:51
Speaker 1: tell them. Look, I have no idea what's going on?
36:54
Speaker 1: What do you mean? I don't know how am I
36:55
Speaker 1: supposed to know? What's what the deal is? What am
36:57
Speaker 1: I the boss or something? I mean, how do do't
37:00
Speaker 1: you know that the whole entire prison system is rife
37:03
Speaker 1: with problems. I'm just some moron sitting in his home
37:06
Speaker 1: studio here in Las Vegas, and I could see the problems.
37:10
Speaker 1: How is it that you, mister carvel Hall, who have
37:13
Speaker 1: all the access in the world to all this information,
37:16
Speaker 1: but yet you're none the wiser. Huh, that's what you
37:18
Speaker 1: want people to believe. Carvel Hall said several times that
37:24
Speaker 1: the Bureau of Prisons, the Justice Department's largest component, with
37:27
Speaker 1: a budget of more than eight billion dollars, was a
37:30
Speaker 1: very large and complex organization, and that there was no
37:33
Speaker 1: possible way for him to know everything that was going on. Well,
37:37
Speaker 1: you're not the right man for the job, and whoever
37:39
Speaker 1: gave him this job is an asshole too. Guess what,
37:45
Speaker 1: it's your job to know everything that's going on. If
37:49
Speaker 1: that means you got to sit around and read reports
37:51
Speaker 1: all damn day, that's what you better do. You signed
37:55
Speaker 1: up for the job with a job with all this.
37:57
Speaker 1: You want all the perks, right, you want all of
37:59
Speaker 1: the alkali, You want all the slaps on the back
38:01
Speaker 1: that comes with responsibility. Carver Hall's attempts to deflect responsibility
38:07
Speaker 1: for his leadership failings didn't sit well with the sub
38:10
Speaker 1: committee's chairman, Senator John Ossoff of Georgia, or its ranking
38:15
Speaker 1: member Ron Johnson from Wisconsin, whose scrutiny of the Bureau
38:18
Speaker 1: of Prisons was spurred in part by Associated press reporting
38:23
Speaker 1: that has exposed a myriad of crisises at the agency. Look,
38:28
Speaker 1: all I needed to see was the way the Epstein
38:31
Speaker 1: situation was dealt with. That was all I needed to know.
38:34
Speaker 1: That this whole entire system was broken, that this whole
38:38
Speaker 1: entire Bureau of Prisons needed to be broken down and reformed.
38:45
Speaker 1: Just because we've always done something one way doesn't mean
38:48
Speaker 1: we should continue to do it this way, and there
38:51
Speaker 1: needs to be a better way to administer these prisons.
38:55
Speaker 1: Further aggravating the senators, carbon Hall initially refused to testify,
39:00
Speaker 1: only doing so after the subcommittee subpoenaed him on July fourteenth,
39:04
Speaker 1: and then upon arriving in the hearing room, claiming he
39:07
Speaker 1: was there voluntarily as off withdrew the subpoena immediately before
39:12
Speaker 1: carve Hall's testimony, only after the director appeared at the hearing,
39:17
Speaker 1: So he was playing KOI with them as well, and
39:20
Speaker 1: they had to issue a subpoena to get him to
39:22
Speaker 1: come and talk. What does that tell you right off
39:26
Speaker 1: the bat, if you're doing your job, and you're doing
39:28
Speaker 1: shit correctly, you just show up to these hearings and look,
39:31
Speaker 1: this is this, this is that. Here are my receipts.
39:34
Speaker 1: I've done the job to the best of my ability.
39:36
Speaker 1: You haven't given me the resources necessary. But it was
39:39
Speaker 1: none of that right He tried to avoid it all,
39:41
Speaker 1: just like most of these shitbag bureaucrats. It's almost wilful ignorance.
39:49
Speaker 1: And that's what I find disturbing, Johnson said of carvel
39:51
Speaker 1: Hall's reluctance to own his mistakes. Don't want to know
39:54
Speaker 1: what's happening below me, don't want to hear about rapes,
39:57
Speaker 1: don't want to hear about suicides. Does that sound like
40:00
Speaker 1: the behavior of a responsible boss who is, you know,
40:05
Speaker 1: being paid to safeguard this industry? Of course it doesn't.
40:09
Speaker 1: It sounds like somebody who was very laxadaisical in their performance,
40:14
Speaker 1: and somebody who was just trying to get to that
40:16
Speaker 1: point where he'd get that pension added us off. It's
40:21
Speaker 1: a disgrace and for the answer to be other people
40:24
Speaker 1: deal with that. I got the report, I don't remember.
40:27
Speaker 1: It's completely unacceptable. Afterwards, carvel Hall ran from reporters seeking
40:32
Speaker 1: to speak with him about his testimony. The director, who's
40:35
Speaker 1: declined nearly all interview requests since taking office in twenty twenty,
40:39
Speaker 1: ducked into a freight elevator with aids before bolting down
40:42
Speaker 1: a stairwell once they realized reporters had followed them in.
40:47
Speaker 1: I mean, wow, imagine being such a coward. All of
40:51
Speaker 1: these politicians, these especially these non elected bureaucrats, who think
40:56
Speaker 1: that they can run from the media, who think they
40:58
Speaker 1: can run from these scams. How dumb do you have
41:01
Speaker 1: to be. It's the year twenty twenty two, homie. There
41:04
Speaker 1: is no running from this. Everybody has a cell phone,
41:08
Speaker 1: everybody's connected at all times. And dudes like you who
41:13
Speaker 1: don't want to be involved in the transparent process that
41:17
Speaker 1: should be engaged upon, well, you're part of the problem.
41:21
Speaker 1: And it's a good thing that you're leaving this job
41:23
Speaker 1: because you're certainly not capable of doing it. Tuesday's hearings,
41:29
Speaker 1: one of several promised by the subcommittee, focused on years
41:32
Speaker 1: of misconduct and abuse at a federal penitentiary in Atlanta.
41:36
Speaker 1: But the problems on earth there speak to the larger
41:39
Speaker 1: systemic issues in the Bureau of Prisons, such as severe staffing, shortages,
41:44
Speaker 1: deficient healthcare, and barely edible food. And that's why it
41:48
Speaker 1: cracks me up. Also when people are like, oh uh,
41:51
Speaker 1: you know, Maxwell's going to a country club. There's no
41:54
Speaker 1: federal prison that's a country club. Okay, none of them.
41:59
Speaker 1: The Atlanta one hundred and twenty year old relic, in
42:02
Speaker 1: Asof's home state, once housed the country's most notorious criminals,
42:06
Speaker 1: including gangster Al Capone, James Whitey Bulger, and Carlo Ponzi,
42:10
Speaker 1: the namesake of the Ponzi Scheme. Today it's a crumbling
42:14
Speaker 1: medium security facility, no longer a penitentiary in the true
42:18
Speaker 1: sense of the term, with about nine hundred male inmates,
42:21
Speaker 1: including people awaiting trial. So look, we need to go
42:25
Speaker 1: through the whole entire Federal Bureau of Prisons with a
42:29
Speaker 1: red pen and fix it. Close these facilities that are
42:33
Speaker 1: horrible rat traps, and put new facilities up. If we
42:37
Speaker 1: have to look it says a lot about a society
42:40
Speaker 1: by the way it treats their prisoners, right, that's sure.
42:43
Speaker 1: Tuesday's hearing, which featured testimony from Atlanta whistleblowers prior to
42:47
Speaker 1: carvel Hall's questioning, came amid an AP investigation that has
42:51
Speaker 1: exposed widespread problems within the agency, including criminal employees, escaping inmates,
42:57
Speaker 1: a woman's prison known to staff and inmates as the
43:00
Speaker 1: rape Club because of rampant staff sexual abuse, end critically
43:04
Speaker 1: low staffing that has hampered responses to emergencies. Now, when
43:09
Speaker 1: you look at this from the outside, shrug your shoulders
43:12
Speaker 1: and move on is what most people do. Right. I'm
43:14
Speaker 1: not there, My people aren't there. But for me, I
43:18
Speaker 1: don't think anyone should have to live in those kind
43:19
Speaker 1: of conditions. And we need to make sure that people
43:25
Speaker 1: who are doing their jail sentences are able to do
43:28
Speaker 1: their jail sentences without staff raping them in shit. Witnesses
43:33
Speaker 1: describe what they said they was known as the Atlantaway,
43:37
Speaker 1: a culture that allowed misconduct at the prison to persist
43:40
Speaker 1: for years. Carvel Hall told the committee he only learned
43:43
Speaker 1: of the prisons problems last year and immediately took action,
43:47
Speaker 1: reducing the inmate population and removing dozens of managers. Despite that,
43:52
Speaker 1: the witnesses said, the facility is still in dire straits.
43:56
Speaker 1: What does that even mean removing dozens of managers? Did
43:59
Speaker 1: anyone get a arrested for these rapes or these sexual
44:02
Speaker 1: assaults of these inmates? The shuffling of the deck is
44:06
Speaker 1: not good enough for me, because what happens these people
44:09
Speaker 1: get moved to another facility and do that shit there
44:12
Speaker 1: and then you'll move them again. Yeah, it seems like
44:15
Speaker 1: a uh proper response to the problem. Alsof said evidence
44:21
Speaker 1: obtained by the subcommittee's investigators showed agency leadership was made
44:26
Speaker 1: aware of the problems at Atlanta as far back as
44:28
Speaker 1: twenty fourteen. Carvall has been a member of the agency's
44:32
Speaker 1: senior leadership since twenty thirteen. Erica Ramirez, the Atlanta's prisons
44:38
Speaker 1: former chief psychologist, said she was transferred to a different
44:41
Speaker 1: federal prison out of retaliation after raising concerns about poor
44:45
Speaker 1: conditions and a rash of inmates suicides. Ramirez said she
44:50
Speaker 1: alerted the prison's warden, other higher ups, and the agency's
44:53
Speaker 1: headquarters to no avail. Look, there's gonna be suicides that happen, right.
44:58
Speaker 1: You can't stop all of them, but there shouldn't be
45:01
Speaker 1: a rash of suicides in your facility. And people they
45:05
Speaker 1: might be convicts, they might be prisoners, whatever, but they
45:08
Speaker 1: shouldn't be you know, murdered or left to their own
45:11
Speaker 1: devices to murder, to kill themselves. You have to make
45:16
Speaker 1: sure you have control of the jail, right, That's a
45:18
Speaker 1: big part of it. Ramirez said. Contraband issues were so
45:26
Speaker 1: prevalent that she confiscated a smuggled microwave from one inmate,
45:29
Speaker 1: only to find it in another prisoner's cell just a
45:32
Speaker 1: few days later. She said, she confirmed that it was
45:35
Speaker 1: the same device when she saw the serial number. She said.
45:38
Speaker 1: Ramirez said the mold riddled prison had such shoddy infrastructure.
45:42
Speaker 1: Elevators were constantly broken, and the sewers would overflow into
45:46
Speaker 1: the recreation yard during rainstorms, sometimes leaving a foot of
45:50
Speaker 1: human waste behind eight billion dollar budget. And this is
45:54
Speaker 1: what they come up with, and then they wonder why
45:58
Speaker 1: these prisons are basicle zoos at some point, the way
46:02
Speaker 1: people conduct themselves inside of here, you give people no hope.
46:05
Speaker 1: You make them live in these kinds of conditions. What
46:08
Speaker 1: do you expect? Terry White had an administrator who left
46:13
Speaker 1: the prison last year, testified there were so many rats
46:16
Speaker 1: in the food service area, employees would leave the prison
46:19
Speaker 1: doors to the outside wide open so stray cats could
46:22
Speaker 1: take care of them, an approach, she said, compromised the
46:25
Speaker 1: prison security. Osof told the AP after the hearing that
46:29
Speaker 1: carvel Hall's testimony lacked credibility at times, and that the
46:33
Speaker 1: director's claims that he wasn't aware of the issues at
46:36
Speaker 1: the Atlanta prison until about a year ago strains credulity.
46:41
Speaker 1: In one of the hearings tenses moments, Osoff pressed carvel
46:44
Speaker 1: Hall on rampant sexual abuse at FCI Dublin, a federal
46:48
Speaker 1: woman's prison in California's Bay Area known to staff and
46:51
Speaker 1: inmates as the Rape Club. Among the Dublin employees charged
46:55
Speaker 1: so far the prison's former warden. Oh isn't that nice? Huh?
47:00
Speaker 1: A prison called the rape Club. Bet you'd feel real
47:02
Speaker 1: good if your Anne or your sister, your daughter had
47:05
Speaker 1: to go there for a white collar crime. Huh would
47:08
Speaker 1: be real nice, Absolutely disgusting and embarrassing our tax dollars
47:14
Speaker 1: at work, folks. Isn't it fantastic? Is the Bureau of
47:19
Speaker 1: Prisons able to keep female detainees safe from sexual abuse
47:22
Speaker 1: by staff, Asoff asked, yes or no, Yes, we are,
47:26
Speaker 1: carvel Hall shot back, in those cases, when things happen,
47:29
Speaker 1: we hold people appropriately accountable. You are the director at
47:33
Speaker 1: the time when one of your prisoners prisons is known
47:36
Speaker 1: to staff and inmates as the rape club. OSOF said
47:40
Speaker 1: to silence and stares from carvel Hall. Press for an answer,
47:43
Speaker 1: carvel Hall said, the matter is under investigation. That's what
47:46
Speaker 1: they always say at the Bureau of Prisons. Oh, we
47:48
Speaker 1: can't give you any any information. This is a matter
47:52
Speaker 1: that is under investigation. Afterward, OSOF took issue with carvel
47:58
Speaker 1: Hall's claims that the Bureau of PRIs can keep female
48:01
Speaker 1: inmates or any inmates safe. It is demonstrably false that
48:06
Speaker 1: female detainees and the custody of the Bureau of Prisons
48:09
Speaker 1: are safe. Asof told the AP, it is demonstrably false,
48:13
Speaker 1: and it is demonstrably false that any inmate can rely
48:16
Speaker 1: upon the quality of care and medical care at multiple
48:20
Speaker 1: BOP facilities. Look, folks, that's just the way of it.
48:25
Speaker 1: The system is absolutely broken, and these federal prisons are
48:29
Speaker 1: ramshackle at this point. Absolute dumps for the most part,
48:34
Speaker 1: and we need to do a better job the people
48:36
Speaker 1: who are administering these federal prisons. They need to be
48:40
Speaker 1: quality people, not just some clown that gets the job
48:44
Speaker 1: because he's friends with Joe Dirt. Good quality people need
48:48
Speaker 1: to be brought in and a new culture needs to
48:51
Speaker 1: start from the top. If you'd like to contact me,
