- 0:01Speaker 1: I would have lost the office pool.
- 0:03Speaker 2: I would have bet you were going to play I
- 0:05Speaker 2: Am Woman, Hear Me Roar by Helen Reddy for Gloria Steinem,
- 0:09Speaker 2: who passed away in 92.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Wow. What are we to say? Because feminism... has gone nuts.
- 0:17Speaker 3: It's gone into man-hating, abortion as a sacrament. It's like
- 0:22Speaker 3: civil rights activism. It is so off the rails compared
- 0:26Speaker 3: to its honorable roots.
- 0:27Speaker 1: But this, let's spend a minute on her and then
- 0:29Speaker 1: various other things. You remember Ms. Magazine? That stuck.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She came out and said, men don't have to be
- 0:38Speaker 3: called by something that reveals their marital status.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Why should women? It's either Ms., but then Mrs.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Ms.
- 0:46Speaker 1: It stuck to this day.
- 0:48Speaker 3: And there were issues for women's equality and women's rights
- 0:53Speaker 3: in the 60s and such. You know, she went in
- 0:55Speaker 3: and she was a playboy bunny for a little bit.
- 0:58Speaker 3: To write a story on the objectification of women, which
- 1:01Speaker 3: was clearly very real and remains to a degree.
- 1:05Speaker 2: It strikes me that all of this era, the Gloria Steinem's,
- 1:08Speaker 2: the Bella Abzug's, these early feminists are sort of quaint
- 1:14Speaker 2: by today's standards. Because people, the left has lost its mind.
- 1:20Speaker 2: There is such a level of kookiness and insanity and
- 1:24Speaker 2: this radical extremism.
- 1:26Speaker 1: I don't even know.
- 1:27Speaker 2: You didn't hear from Gloria Steinem really a lot in
- 1:30Speaker 2: the last decade or so. And, of course, she was
- 1:33Speaker 2: in her 80s and early 90s, so maybe she was
- 1:36Speaker 2: just enjoying her golden years.
- 1:39Speaker 1: But it is.
- 1:39Speaker 2: It's the same with the Democrat Party. My mom and
- 1:43Speaker 2: dad grew up as sort of blue-dog, Kennedy-loving Democrats. They
- 1:47Speaker 2: wouldn't recognize today's Democrat Party. I mean, so I just,
- 1:51Speaker 2: you know, it's a bygone era, that's for sure, and
- 1:55Speaker 2: a passing that's worth noting. You know, look at this
- 1:58Speaker 2: Tallarico character. This is a guy now that it was
- 2:01Speaker 2: uncovered or discovered about the way he was trashing capitalism.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Even CNN is being forced to report, well, you know,
- 2:12Speaker 2: he acts like he's pro-capitalism now, but he didn't used
- 2:16Speaker 2: to be. In a September 2020 climate forum, he described
- 2:22Speaker 2: capitalism as an oppressive system and talked about how we
- 2:27Speaker 2: have to dismantle it and tied it to white supremacy.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Of course. So that's because that, well, of course, because
- 2:34Speaker 1: of course you do. It's what you do. It's what
- 2:36Speaker 1: you do. It's a self-loathing white guy. Exactly. Yep, yep.
- 2:39Speaker 2: So meanwhile, we got John Kennedy, right before I went
- 2:43Speaker 2: on break, and incidentally, Can I again sing the praises?
- 2:46Speaker 2: I got to tell you a quick travel story. I'm
- 2:49Speaker 2: walking through the airport. I wanted to head up to
- 2:51Speaker 2: Maine for a few days again because I love Maine.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Especially when it's hot and steamy in Florida. It's some sweet.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Weather up there in the summertime. 65 and chilly during
- 3:02Speaker 2: the day and kind of cloudy. I went and saw
- 3:05Speaker 2: a couple of cool lighthouses and saw some historic places
- 3:08Speaker 2: and had me a lobster roll or two.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Wicked lobster, wicked lobster. I just love the vibe.
- 3:14Speaker 2: And I'm walking through the airport, and I went through
- 3:17Speaker 2: LaGuardia to get up there, and I see this guy
- 3:20Speaker 2: standing over by the TSA checkpoint on the other side,
- 3:25Speaker 2: on our side, inside the terminal.
- 3:28Speaker 1: A little short guy.
- 3:29Speaker 2: I thought, what? Gosh, he's familiar. And sure enough, it
- 3:34Speaker 2: was Abdul El-Said. So as I'm walking, and he's by himself,
- 3:39Speaker 2: there was a lady with him. There's no entourage, there's
- 3:41Speaker 2: no ring of security, there's no staff.
- 3:44Speaker 1: No, no. And I looked it up.
- 3:45Speaker 2: He had been on MS Now earlier that day, so
- 3:48Speaker 2: that's probably why he went into New York. But anyway,
- 3:50Speaker 2: he's standing there, and he's just kind of looking around.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Abdul in the wild.
- 3:54Speaker 2: And you can't tell what happens. In his natural habitat,
- 3:58Speaker 2: an airport. So we make eye contact.
- 4:00Speaker 1: And he looks at me. This is so awesome.
- 4:02Speaker 2: And I'm walking by him. And first of all, just
- 4:05Speaker 2: fun fact, he's short. He's like, I looked it up.
- 4:09Speaker 2: I think he's 5'7 or 5'8. So, you know, he
- 4:12Speaker 2: comes across as this sort of macho, buff guy, you know.
- 4:15Speaker 2: And everybody says he always tries to.
- 4:16Speaker 1: So does Tom Cruise, you know. Well, he's a little guy, too.
- 4:20Speaker 1: And Dustin Hoffman. But he anyway. So I see Abdul.
- 4:24Speaker 1: He sees me.
- 4:24Speaker 2: We make eye contact and he smiles at me. So
- 4:29Speaker 2: he like grins. So I smile back like an idiot. No,
- 4:33Speaker 2: you're a normal human instinct.
- 4:34Speaker 1: It's all right. This is a great story. I love this.
- 4:37Speaker 2: A human and a human interacting. And I'm walking right
- 4:41Speaker 2: by him.
- 4:41Speaker 1: So you have to understand.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Well, I look at him and he's like, you can
- 4:45Speaker 2: see like he's expecting me to say something.
- 4:47Speaker 1: So what do I do? I say something. What did
- 4:51Speaker 1: I say? What?
- 4:52Speaker 2: What's the last thing you think a big mouth conservative
- 4:57Speaker 2: talk show host is going to say to the face
- 4:59Speaker 2: of And the soul and the heart of DSA, the
- 5:02Speaker 2: guy who threatens to upend the United States Senate, who's
- 5:06Speaker 2: going to destroy this country forever.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Might be part of a terrorist cell for all we know. Yeah,
- 5:11Speaker 1: for all we know. What's the last thing you surely
- 5:14Speaker 1: would not wish him well politically? I said good luck.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I said good luck. And I thought, what the heck's
- 5:23Speaker 1: wrong with me? I'm wishing him good luck. And he
- 5:27Speaker 1: looks at me, and he beams, and he gets all warm,
- 5:31Speaker 1: and he says, oh, thank you so very much.
- 5:34Speaker 4: I thought as I'm walking, if you only knew what
- 5:37Speaker 4: I did for a living. I normally invoke your name
- 5:41Speaker 4: like I invoke the name of Lucifer, and I'm wishing
- 5:44Speaker 4: you luck.
- 5:45Speaker 1: I can't believe. What the heck is wrong? Do I
- 5:47Speaker 1: need therapy? It's a moment of despair.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Moment of decency in the real three-dimensional world.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Decency? Insanity. No, you were nice. You were nice and kind,
- 5:58Speaker 1: and it makes me love you, and it was great.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Well, and then I started thinking about how Jesse Waters
- 6:04Speaker 2: admitted that he kind.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Of liked the guy.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Yes, yes.
- 6:06Speaker 1: He's a likable guy. Of course.
- 6:08Speaker 2: I mean, you know, when you talk to him, except
- 6:10Speaker 2: for what comes out of his mouth, I mean, it's
- 6:14Speaker 2: like the grinning devil.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Get out of the house.
- 6:18Speaker 3: You know who else has had a likability burst while
- 6:20Speaker 3: you were away doing lighthouses and lobster? Have you seen me?
- 6:25Speaker 3: And I don't know what this is. Maybe just caught
- 6:27Speaker 3: us in a slow moment. There's a two, two and
- 6:29Speaker 3: a half minute TMZ walking interview with AOC talking about, hey,
- 6:34Speaker 3: would you ever date a conservative now that she's back
- 6:36Speaker 3: on the market and blah, blah, blah. And for two,
- 6:39Speaker 3: two and a half minutes, she just talks about life,
- 6:41Speaker 3: talks about herself, talks about, you.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Know, et cetera, et cetera.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Be afraid. Be very afraid. She is also wrong on
- 6:48Speaker 3: every issue. But she has an organic likability and a relatability.
- 6:53Speaker 3: And I'm not going to make her the 2028 nominee
- 6:55Speaker 3: just yet. But she is a commodity to be appreciated.
- 6:59Speaker 3: And it's just an interesting. And she's also pretty normal
- 7:03Speaker 3: compared to what the Democrat Party has become.
- 7:06Speaker 2: All of these DSA candidates have a certain charm and
- 7:09Speaker 2: charisma about them, I think, which I guess is what's
- 7:11Speaker 2: getting them maybe elected in the primaries. And it reminds me,
- 7:15Speaker 2: years and years ago, when I was working in New York,
- 7:19Speaker 2: I had an agent who had a family connection to
- 7:22Speaker 2: the Hillary Clinton campaign. And this was when Hillary was— I
- 7:26Speaker 2: think she was running for Senate. And my wife was
- 7:28Speaker 2: a Democrat, you know, and it was no secret that
- 7:30Speaker 2: Denise voted Democrat. And I always often think about where
- 7:34Speaker 2: things would be today if she were alive. All my
- 7:37Speaker 2: stuff would be out on the front lawn. I mean,
- 7:39Speaker 2: it would be— I'd be I would be I don't
- 7:41Speaker 2: know if we'd survive.
- 7:42Speaker 3: We'd have Denise in a MAGA hat on Facebook by lunchtime.
- 7:45Speaker 2: I mean, she wasn't a crazy leftist activist lunatic radical.
- 7:50Speaker 2: She was just a kind of a standard Tildit windmills
- 7:54Speaker 2: garden variety Democrat. Right. And so this agent and I
- 7:58Speaker 2: got together and we thought, wouldn't it be kind of
- 8:01Speaker 2: neat if Denise could meet Hillary? And my agent said, well,
- 8:05Speaker 2: Hillary is going to be speaking at a church. I
- 8:09Speaker 2: think it was a synagogue, as I recall, in New
- 8:13Speaker 2: York City. And I said, well, why don't we arrange it?
- 8:16Speaker 1: I can't.
- 8:17Speaker 2: I don't abide by anything she represents. I don't want
- 8:20Speaker 2: her to win. But, man, it would make my wife
- 8:22Speaker 2: so joyful to get to meet Hillary Clinton. Now, I
- 8:26Speaker 2: didn't tell Denise. I surprised her. I said, I got
- 8:28Speaker 2: a big surprise for you. Meet me in Midtown Manhattan.
- 8:31Speaker 2: We're going to drive up to a building. She didn't
- 8:33Speaker 2: know what was going on. Took her to the synagogue.
- 8:35Speaker 2: She had no idea. They took us into a back room,
- 8:39Speaker 2: like a green room or an ante room. And in
- 8:43Speaker 2: walks Hillary Clinton to meet my Denise. And Denise was
- 8:47Speaker 2: just over the moon. I mean, she just was. But
- 8:50Speaker 2: when Hillary Clinton walked in the door, she made eye
- 8:53Speaker 2: contact with me and with my wife. And she said
- 8:57Speaker 2: to Denise, and obviously she was prompted and all that.
- 9:00Speaker 2: She had no idea who we were. But she says
- 9:02Speaker 2: to Denise, Denise, what do we got to do to
- 9:06Speaker 2: bring your guy around to our way of thinking? And
- 9:09Speaker 2: Denise laughed, and Hillary laughed, and I kind of nervously laughed, thinking,
- 9:14Speaker 2: what have I done, Lord? But she made contact in
- 9:19Speaker 2: a way that was, I thought, man, you are good.
- 9:23Speaker 1: She was good. She's personable. She got that from her husband.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Bill and Hillary.
- 9:29Speaker 3: Bill Clinton on retail politics in a room.
- 9:31Speaker 1: They make you think you're the only person in the room.
- 9:35Speaker 2: I feel your pain. I feel your pain. And Hillary
- 9:37Speaker 2: did that with Denise and, of course, won her over. Frankly,
- 9:41Speaker 2: kind of won me over. She was likable in that
- 9:43Speaker 2: five minutes.
- 9:43Speaker 1: I've got to talk to you.
- 9:45Speaker 2: So, yeah, but I mean, anyhow, we've got to be
- 9:47Speaker 2: careful not to get fooled by their polish, by their
- 9:51Speaker 2: slick presentation. Well, what they were trying to do with
- 9:53Speaker 2: Tallarico is turn him into an affable, likable, kind of
- 9:57Speaker 2: a religious boy, goes to cracker.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Barrel. What a lie. He's a snake.
- 10:02Speaker 3: He's just as horrible and poisonous. And I think the
- 10:06Speaker 3: veneer is going to be peeled off of that every day.
- 10:10Speaker 2: But the Daily Caller reports how the Republican campaign and
- 10:13Speaker 2: fundraising apparatus is facing a lot of backlash. for this
- 10:17Speaker 2: perceived lack of action for Ken Paxton. You saw John
- 10:22Speaker 2: Kennedy the other day right before I went on the
- 10:24Speaker 2: break for Maine. I saw this clip and I posted it.
- 10:27Speaker 2: It's like they want to lose. There's John Kennedy going
- 10:29Speaker 2: on Fox News saying they're not going to spend any
- 10:31Speaker 2: money in Texas.
- 10:32Speaker 1: We don't have the money. Of course you have the money.
- 10:34Speaker 1: You've got the money. Of course you do. So do
- 10:36Speaker 1: you want him to lose?
- 10:37Speaker 2: I mean, you got this Eric Erickson out of Atlanta,
- 10:40Speaker 2: old conservative talk show host, practically endorses James Tallarico. I mean, look,
- 10:47Speaker 2: you may not love Ken Paxton as a candidate. You
- 10:51Speaker 2: sure can't like the alternative.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Unless you can.
- 10:56Speaker 3: And for some of these establishment toadies, they would love
- 11:00Speaker 3: for Paxton to lose, that James Tallarico will be our
- 11:03Speaker 3: punishment for daring to request change.
- 11:06Speaker 1: You think that's what's going on? I know it. In
- 11:10Speaker 1: your heart of hearts, you think they want Tallarico to win. Listen,
- 11:14Speaker 1: it's not universal.
- 11:15Speaker 3: There are some people who just kind of become namby-pamby
- 11:17Speaker 3: and ambivalent about it. There are some people for whom
- 11:21Speaker 3: this would be a magnificent shiv in the ribs for MAGA,
- 11:25Speaker 3: for the grassroots, for the real conservatives. And they'd say, see,
- 11:28Speaker 3: don't you ever do that again. We told you to
- 11:30Speaker 3: vote for.
- 11:31Speaker 1: We told you so.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Your punishment for thwarting us. There are those who would
- 11:35Speaker 3: love for us to pay a price. The good news
- 11:37Speaker 3: is we're not going to.
- 11:38Speaker 1: No, I don't.
- 11:39Speaker 2: I don't think so. Let's let's let's just stay engaged.
- 11:42Speaker 2: And finally, just sad note about the Dallas Cowboys. First,
- 11:46Speaker 2: Tony Romo and his apology for his. DUI in Wisconsin.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Now Emmett Smith. Have you seen the news about Emmett?
- 11:54Speaker 3: It was a business deal that involved what ultimately the
- 11:59Speaker 3: authorities think is a Ponzi scheme.
- 12:02Speaker 1: $ 2.
- 12:02Speaker 2: 5 million he's alleged to have conned an investor out of.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Come on, not Emmett Smith.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Not Emma.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I mean, look, we were season ticket holders for the Cowboys.
- 12:13Speaker 2: My kid lived and breathed Dallas Cowboys. Our whole family
- 12:17Speaker 2: became Cowboys fans. How many Thanksgivings we spent together cooking
- 12:22Speaker 2: out in that parking lot over there in Irving.
- 12:24Speaker 1: And just not Emmett Smith. Please, Lord.
- 12:28Speaker 3: In 60 seconds, you read the full Tony Romo statement
- 12:31Speaker 3: and stuff, right?
- 12:32Speaker 1: I did.
- 12:32Speaker 3: And I saw what you said about it. And it
- 12:34Speaker 3: was just, once again, Chapter 3 of Mike just being
- 12:37Speaker 3: sweet and nice and kind, which he is. And I
- 12:39Speaker 3: hope I have that DNA, too. And we wish Tony well.
- 12:42Speaker 3: That goes without saying. I have heard a little wave,
- 12:45Speaker 3: a little sub wavelet of opinion of people who say
- 12:47Speaker 3: it was total CYA, total excuse making. He just got
- 12:51Speaker 3: drunk on the golf course and got caught. And this
- 12:53Speaker 3: is what you do to get yourself out of that
- 12:54Speaker 3: bear trap.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Well, it's perhaps, but his apology I thought was heartfelt.
- 13:00Speaker 2: And as somebody who has witnessed addiction and alcohol abuse
- 13:06Speaker 2: up close and personal with family members, I know that
- 13:09Speaker 2: you've got to hit rock bottom before you can try
- 13:11Speaker 2: to climb out of the hole. Maybe he did. Maybe
- 13:13Speaker 2: his national embarrassment. is a wake-up call. He said he's
- 13:17Speaker 2: had back surgery.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Why is he on a golf course five times a
- 13:21Speaker 3: week if that back is killing him so badly?
- 13:23Speaker 2: I choose not to be cynical about it. I choose
- 13:26Speaker 2: not to be cynical. I choose to appreciate his attempt
- 13:29Speaker 2: maybe at redemption, and I hope he comes back. I
- 13:32Speaker 2: hope he bounces back. I don't know if CBS can
- 13:35Speaker 2: let him back in the booth. I have no idea
- 13:37Speaker 2: if he'll call a game again for them.
- 13:38Speaker 1: I have no idea.
- 13:39Speaker 2: I don't know. I do, too. I still remember the time.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Remember we took the homeless person to the movies? Remember
- 13:48Speaker 2: that story years and years ago? There was a homeless
- 13:50Speaker 2: guy in Dallas that he came across smelled and was natty.
- 13:54Speaker 2: The guy recognized Tony and Tony was gone. Took him
- 13:56Speaker 2: to a matinee. They sat in the movies together. Here's
- 13:58Speaker 2: a superstar NFL quarterback and a homeless guy.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Big heart. And I hope he comes out on top.
- 14:05Speaker 1: All right. Good to be back. Happy Thursday. I'll see
- 14:07Speaker 1: you on the podcast. Podcast time. M & M Extra.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Go to YouTube.
- 14:10Speaker 3: M & M Extra. Mike and I with just a
- 14:11Speaker 3: little extra, as the podcast name suggests. Mike on the
- 14:14Speaker 3: radio as soon as we're done. 10 o'clock on 660 AM.
- 14:16Speaker 1: The answer.
