• 1:41
Speaker 4: for you? It might be a little bit better today
• 1:45
Speaker 4: than what it was yesterday. I have to tell you
• 1:47
Speaker 4: it probably couldn't be much worse if you weren't around
• 1:53
Speaker 4: Charleston yesterday and you didn't see all the tie up
• 1:55
Speaker 4: that happened. And I'm sure if you're on social media
• 1:57
Speaker 4: you saw it or on your local TV news or whatever.
• 2:00
Speaker 4: That replacement of the Carter Bridge not the replacement of
• 2:03
Speaker 4: the bridge, although the way the traffic look yesterday, they
• 2:06
Speaker 4: may have been replacing the actual bridge at a giant
• 2:09
Speaker 4: crater the small size of a small to medium sized
• 2:13
Speaker 4: car that develops. So work continues on that. They're telling
• 2:17
Speaker 4: us that by midday today it might might be open
• 2:22
Speaker 4: back up again. They were able to open up one
• 2:25
Speaker 4: other lane, so of the three, there's now two open,
• 2:28
Speaker 4: but it's still quite a bit. When I came into
• 2:30
Speaker 4: the office around seven thirty or so this morning. Now
• 2:32
Speaker 4: this is westbound, okay, not eastbound, as I'm coming in eastbound.
• 2:36
Speaker 4: I just happened to as I was getting off on
• 2:38
Speaker 4: Virginia Street, they just happened to look over there, and
• 2:40
Speaker 4: I saw the traffic backed up for as far as
• 2:43
Speaker 4: the eye could see. And I didn't even get on
• 2:47
Speaker 4: the Interstate going home yesterday. I try, you know, I
• 2:50
Speaker 4: made it home at some point, but without getting on
• 2:52
Speaker 4: the Interstate because as you may guess, all the back
• 2:55
Speaker 4: roads were backed up too. But we'll get through it,
• 2:57
Speaker 4: hopefully midday to day and maybe even while we're on

Speaker 4: in Boone County their annual pigross. This thing is huge
• 3:23
Speaker 4: and so Merrily is going to join us to talk
• 3:24
Speaker 4: about that. A little bit later on, We've got big
• 3:26
Speaker 4: happenings on the city of Nitro. They're going to do
• 3:28
Speaker 4: a cruise in tonight. Joe Stevens. It's actually Marty Gracasino
• 3:32
Speaker 4: and Resort. Joe Stevens will join us from Nitro to
• 3:35
Speaker 4: talk about that. And also the Dirty Birds are back
• 3:38
Speaker 4: at home tonight. They were on the road this week,
• 3:40
Speaker 4: they're back at home tonight. And a lot of different
• 3:41
Speaker 4: activities going on at Pepperoni Role Festival. Joe Garan will
• 3:45
Speaker 4: join us to talk about that, BLUs some other things
• 3:47
Speaker 4: that are going on, so we'll have some other folks
• 3:48
Speaker 4: in here to talk about that. So we had a

• 4:07
Speaker 4: this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. Angie,
• 4:10
Speaker 4: Good morning and welcome to the show.
• 4:13
Speaker 6: Good morning, it's good to be back.
• 4:14
Speaker 4: Thank you, Thank you all right. So, as always our
• 4:18
Speaker 4: pets pictures posted on Dave Island Radio, on Facebook and
• 4:21
Speaker 4: at Dave seventy one X. Tell us the story of
• 4:25
Speaker 4: Crocodile Rock. And I always need to know the story
• 4:29
Speaker 4: behind the name. And I was joking with producer Ryan,
• 4:31
Speaker 4: I said, sometimes, between you two, I have to ask
• 4:33
Speaker 4: you what these names mean. You know, because you like
• 4:36
Speaker 4: to name you and the folks like to name it.
• 4:37
  Speaker 4: Some references that I don't get because I'm old. I
• 4:40
Speaker 4: get Crocodile Rock, all right. It was a number one
• 4:42
Speaker 4: song Elton John in nineteen seventy three on the Billboard
• 4:46
Speaker 4: Charge number one in nineteen seventy three. So I know
• 4:49
Speaker 4: what Crocodile Rock means. Tell us the story of Crocodile
• 4:52
Speaker 4: Rock and why did you choose the name it? After
• 4:54
Speaker 4: an Elton John song?
• 4:56
Speaker 6: So Crocodile Rock actually came in as astray with his
• 5:00
Speaker 6: three siblings, who are also named after Elton John songs.
• 5:03
Speaker 6: We had Mona, Lisa, Rocketman, and Oh Tiny Dancer was
• 5:08
Speaker 6: the other one. And sitting there trying to think of
• 5:11
Speaker 6: a unique name, I was the one that named them.
• 5:14
Speaker 6: I was just having a day where I was really
• 5:17
Speaker 6: enjoying Elton John and you know hits him that era,
• 5:22
Speaker 6: so that's I mean Elton John fan anyway. So I just,
• 5:26
Speaker 6: rather than calling them Elton John or whatever, wanted it
• 5:29
Speaker 6: to be kind of unique and name them after song.
• 5:33
Speaker 4: Well, there is one Elton John song that you could
• 5:36
Speaker 4: have named. And I'm gonna because I like my job,
• 5:37
Speaker 4: I don't want to get fired. I'm not going to
• 5:39
Speaker 4: mention the exact title. But you know, Elton John had
• 5:40
Speaker 4: a big hit record with a song called the Blank
• 5:42
Speaker 4: Is Back and it starts with a B and I'll
• 5:45
Speaker 4: leave it at that. So better that you name it
• 5:47
Speaker 4: after you know, the song Crocodile Rock than the Blank
• 5:50
  Speaker 4: Is Back?
• 5:52
  Speaker 7: Right?
• 5:52
Speaker 6: Yeah, As I was scrolling through the Elton John track list,
• 5:55
Speaker 6: I said, okay, well we will be using them.
• 5:57
Speaker 4: I'll be using that one, all right, So tell us
• 5:59
  Speaker 4: about Crocodile Rock.
• 6:02
Speaker 6: Crocodile Rock is one of the perfect ages. He's eight
• 6:05
Speaker 6: months old, so he's out of your velociraptor puppy h
• 6:09
Speaker 6: and I'm using air quotes here where he wants to
• 6:12
Speaker 6: chew everything and you know, run around with lots of energy.
• 6:16
Speaker 6: But he's still younger, so he's got, you know, some spunk.
• 6:20
Speaker 6: He's the perfect age for taking out into public, going
• 6:23
Speaker 6: on hikes, things like that. He's very sweet, hasn't met
• 6:27
Speaker 6: a stranger yet. He loves other dogs, and I don't
• 6:31
Speaker 6: see him having any issues with cats. He's, like I said,
• 6:34
Speaker 6: still a puppy, and they're fairly easy to introduce to
• 6:37
Speaker 6: your cats at home.
• 6:39
Speaker 4: And you said he's eight months old, he's male, vaccinated,
• 6:42
Speaker 4: not new yet but will be. Seems to be great
• 6:45
Speaker 4: with other dogs, matter of fact, fantastic with other dogs,
• 6:48
Speaker 4: loves to be around kids. Any idea of what kind
• 6:50
Speaker 4: of dog you may be, so.
• 6:52
Speaker 6: That is a tough one. His siblings kind of resembled
• 6:55
Speaker 6: boxers in a way. They had more of like a
• 6:57
Speaker 6: smushy face with like those little triangles. Eighty years so
• 7:01
Speaker 6: I would say maybe like a box three mix. He
• 7:05
Speaker 6: doesn't really have that look about him like his siblings did.
• 7:08
Speaker 4: And as you mentioned, he has been fostered in the past,
• 7:11
Speaker 4: and his previous foster parent said he was just an
• 7:13
Speaker 4: awesome dog all around.
• 7:15
Speaker 6: Correct. Yeah, they said that he was a great dog.
• 7:18
Speaker 6: They had no complaints. The only reason they ended up
• 7:20
Speaker 6: bringing him back is because they were going out of
• 7:22
Speaker 6: town for the Fourth of July. So he's a great
• 7:26
Speaker 6: dog and they said that they would take him back
• 7:28
  Speaker 6: in a heartbeat.
• 7:29
Speaker 4: Dog n Agie Gillenwater from the Nannala Charleston Newmain Association

• 7:51
Speaker 4: You got an event coming up called Adoptions after Dark?
• 7:54
Speaker 4: What is that all about?
• 7:56
Speaker 6: So that is my attempt to get more people into
• 8:00
Speaker 6: our building that maybe normally wouldn't during our business hours
• 8:04
Speaker 6: because I know a lot of people work, so adoptions
• 8:08
Speaker 6: after dark. Next Friday, which is July eighteenth, we're going
• 8:11
Speaker 6: to be open until ten pm. It's the last day,
• 8:16
Speaker 6: or one of the last days of our adoption special
• 8:18
Speaker 6: we have going on right now. So I'm hoping to
• 8:21
Speaker 6: see lots of people that you know, couldn't make it
• 8:23
Speaker 6: because they, you know, had work that day. I'm hoping
• 8:26
Speaker 6: to see lots of teenagers board because it's Friday night
• 8:29
Speaker 6: and there was nothing else to do. I just I'm
• 8:32
Speaker 6: hoping to see a lot of people that we don't
• 8:33
Speaker 6: normally see during our open business hours.
• 8:36
Speaker 4: Well what was the best of luck that We'll talk
• 8:37
Speaker 4: about it of course next week. And you're doing some
• 8:40
  Speaker 4: hiring up there.
• 8:42
Speaker 6: Yes we are. We have open interviews going on next
• 8:44
Speaker 6: week and check out our Facebook page to get all
• 8:46
Speaker 6: the details for it. And we are hiring for pretty
• 8:50
Speaker 6: much anywhere in our building, adoptions, admissions, animal care, even
• 8:55
Speaker 6: our medical team is meeting some extra hands right now,
• 8:58
Speaker 6: so we are high hiring. And be sure to check
• 9:01
Speaker 6: out those open interviews.
• 9:02
Speaker 4: And we do get people sometimes when we talk about
• 9:04
Speaker 4: any place at hiring, they'll say, what are the what's
• 9:06
Speaker 4: the age minimum on this? So what's the youngest you
• 9:10
Speaker 4: could hire because it could be a good job for
• 9:12
Speaker 4: maybe a high school kid or somebody younger. What's the
• 9:15
Speaker 4: what ages are you looking at? What's the youngest?
• 9:18
Speaker 6: So the youngest that we have hired is the age
• 9:21
Speaker 6: of seventeen years old, and that was turning close to eighteen.
• 9:26
Speaker 6: So if you're between the seventeen and eighteen range, we
• 9:29
  Speaker 6: can hire you.
• 9:30
Speaker 4: All right. You got this Bissle the Bisle Pet Foundation,
• 9:33
Speaker 4: which I know does fantastic work. Hats off to the
• 9:36
Speaker 4: folks at the Bissle they get their Empty the Shelter
• 9:38
Speaker 4: event that's continuing as well.
• 9:41
Speaker 6: Yes, the last day for the Empty the Shelters adoption
• 9:44
Speaker 6: special is July nineteenth, and we are including all the
• 9:49
Speaker 6: animals in the building. Cats and kittens are fifty dollars
• 9:52
Speaker 6: to adopt, and dogs and select puppies are twenty five
• 9:55
  Speaker 6: dollars to adopt.
• 9:56
Speaker 4: And Tuxas and tails is coming up.
• 10:00
Speaker 6: It would be Kegs for Caano.
• 10:01
Speaker 4: Oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I got my events mixed up.
• 10:05
Speaker 4: I'm sorry. You're absolutely right. Kegs for cake. How could I,
• 10:08
Speaker 4: of all people forget the word keg? But anyway, go ahead, yep.
• 10:12
Speaker 6: Kegs for Tana's just slowly creeping up on us. In August,
• 10:16
Speaker 6: uh is a fundraiser for us where all we require
• 10:20
Speaker 6: of you is to purchase the ticket, come hang out
• 10:22
Speaker 6: and drink beer and pet dogs.
• 10:24
Speaker 4: All right, it sounds like it sounds like a dang
• 10:26
Speaker 4: good time to me right there, and again we'll be
• 10:28
Speaker 4: giving you more information on kegs for canines. We had
• 10:30
Speaker 4: a text here for you. It said, have any of
• 10:32
Speaker 4: the piglets that fell out of the truck on mccorkol
• 10:36
Speaker 4: yesterday been brought to the shelter? If so, how are
• 10:38
Speaker 4: they doing? Last count was four.
• 10:41
Speaker 6: So to not yet none of them have been brought
• 10:44
Speaker 6: to the shelter yet. And what's funny is, as I
• 10:46
Speaker 6: was sitting in traffic yesterday, I saw that truck. But
• 10:51
Speaker 6: to my knowledge, all of the tikelets that have been
• 10:53
Speaker 6: recovered have been taken two vents throughout the Charleston area
• 10:57
Speaker 6: because I think a lot of them were in pretty
• 10:59
Speaker 6: serious condition from falling from the truck. But we haven't
• 11:03
Speaker 6: received any yet. I'm sure if some come to our shelter,
• 11:06
Speaker 6: you will see that on our Facebook page as well,
• 11:08
Speaker 6: because that'll be very exciting.
• 11:10
Speaker 4: All right, we got another chext here for you First
• 11:12
Speaker 4: of all, I got to back up, So how did
• 11:15
Speaker 4: the piglets just fell off of a truck?
• 11:18
Speaker 6: So there was a transport truck sitting in the standstill
• 11:22
Speaker 6: traffic yesterday and there was a latch loose on the
• 11:26
Speaker 6: bottom of the truck and piglets were just falling out
• 11:28
Speaker 6: and the driver was completely unaware that that was going.
• 11:30
Speaker 4: So we just had like pigs running rampant. Is that
• 11:33
Speaker 4: what you're saying, right.
• 11:34
Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, that's from what I'm hearing and seeing on Facebook.
• 11:38
Speaker 6: We had piglets just running up and down the interstage.
• 11:41
Speaker 4: All right, Well, that's something you don't see every day,
• 11:44
Speaker 4: but in Charleston and with the traffic, it's just another day.
• 11:46
Speaker 4: So I hope to hope that they'll be okay. All right,
• 11:50
Speaker 4: what do you need donations wise?
• 11:53
Speaker 6: So some big things right now are wet kitten food
• 11:56
Speaker 6: specifically four kittens and don dishwashing liquid are things that
• 12:00
Speaker 6: we are at a zero on in our supply, So
• 12:05
Speaker 6: down dishwashing li where do or any brand? And wet
• 12:08
  Speaker 6: kitten food.
• 12:09
Speaker 4: What about the towels because I know you were collecting towels.
• 12:12
Speaker 6: Yeah, still that is a always need those towels, blanket sheets.
• 12:17
Speaker 4: All that all right. Uh, We've got another text for you. You're popular.
• 12:21
Speaker 4: Can high school students get their community service credit hours
• 12:24
Speaker 4: by volunteering at the shelter?
• 12:26
Speaker 6: Absolutely, We would love for you guys to come up
• 12:29
Speaker 6: there and help us. You can stop by the shelter
• 12:32
Speaker 6: anytime that we are open and we can you know,
• 12:35
Speaker 6: get you started that day or give you information on
• 12:38
Speaker 6: how to get started.
• 12:40
Speaker 4: All right, Angie, I appreciate it, and we'll talk again
• 12:43

Speaker 4: going to talk to a few folks about that coming up.
• 16:03
Speaker 4: Let's bring it now. Our good friend from the City
• 16:05
Speaker 4: of Nitro, Joe Stevens, Good morning, Welcome to the show.
• 16:08
Speaker 7: Sir, Good morning, David.
• 16:10
  Speaker 6: How are you.
• 16:11
Speaker 4: I am doing fine, having a good summer so far? Sir?
• 16:16
Speaker 7: Oh my goodness. Say hey, we were eighteen games behind
• 16:19
Speaker 7: five hundred. We're only eight games behind five hundred now,
• 16:22
Speaker 7: so progress was being made, as we always seem to
• 16:25
  Speaker 7: Talk Baseball.
• 16:26
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's gonna say. I really wasn't referring to your
• 16:28
Speaker 4: beloved Baltimore Orioles. But that's okay.
• 16:32
  Speaker 3: Now.
• 16:33
Speaker 4: I'm just happy for you know, and I'm even wearing
• 16:35
Speaker 4: my Reds polo today. I'm just happy that this season
• 16:38
Speaker 4: that the Reds aren't woefully, you know, so far behind.
• 16:41
Speaker 4: I mean they're behind, but not not as far behind
• 16:43
Speaker 4: as what we normally are coming up on the All
• 16:45
  Speaker 4: Star breaks. So I'm that's a win. That's a win,
• 16:49
Speaker 4: all right. What you got going on in Nitro tonight?
• 16:53
Speaker 7: Well, once a month, usually the first Friday of every
• 16:58
Speaker 7: summer month, the Night Throw Anti Car Club has a
• 17:01
Speaker 7: cruise in here in Nitro and on Second Avenue. We
• 17:05
Speaker 7: close down Second Avenue and we have about one hundred
• 17:08
Speaker 7: cars or so one hundred and fifty cars to come
• 17:10
Speaker 7: out and just so on a Friday night and music
• 17:12
Speaker 7: and free food and that sort of thing. Well, we're
• 17:14
Speaker 7: taking that party on the road tonight and we're going
• 17:18
Speaker 7: to do it at the Marty Gras Casino and Resort
• 17:21
Speaker 7: in Nitro. The folks at Marty Gras, Karl Waitner, the
• 17:25
Speaker 7: general manager and his team up there, has invited the
• 17:29
Speaker 7: car club to come up there and we're gonna throw
• 17:31
Speaker 7: it down from about five to eight tonight.
• 17:33
Speaker 4: My friend, you had me at free food.
• 17:36
Speaker 7: Oh, I mean, you know that's that four letter word
• 17:39
Speaker 7: that you can actually stay on the radio and enjoy.
• 17:42
Speaker 4: And you've also got some stuff for veterans going on
• 17:44
Speaker 4: up there as well.
• 17:45
Speaker 7: Right, yeah, Well, anytime we have an event in Nitro,
• 17:49
Speaker 7: we always try to be able to provide some type
• 17:52
Speaker 7: of information for some type of group, suicide prevention, dementia,
• 17:58
Speaker 7: the dementia group. This time around, again, we're really focusing
• 18:04
Speaker 7: on veterans. There'll be some groups up there having information.
• 18:09
Speaker 7: If you're a veteran, you're having some questions about what
• 18:12
Speaker 7: you can have as being a veteran and that sort
• 18:17
Speaker 7: of thing, they will have information booths up there. So
• 18:20
Speaker 7: come on up and get some free food. We're having
• 18:23
Speaker 7: hot dogs, chips and pop and water and all being
• 18:27
Speaker 7: provided by the Marty Gras Casino and Resort.
• 18:30
Speaker 4: And when you say it's a cruise in, I mean
• 18:32
Speaker 4: what kind of cars specifically come out to these things?
• 18:34
Speaker 4: What are you expecting for tonight?
• 18:37
Speaker 7: Well, all kinds of cars, cars and trucks. There'll be
• 18:42
Speaker 7: some Model a's probably coming up all the way to
• 18:47
Speaker 7: I know the Corvette Club in the area. They bring
• 18:50
Speaker 7: their car A lot of time they bring their cars up,
• 18:52
Speaker 7: but folks open up the garage it's going to be
• 18:55
Speaker 7: a nice night, they bring it out. It gives them
• 18:57
Speaker 7: a chance to have a ride and head and have
• 19:00
Speaker 7: a good time. And what's really neat Dave is also
• 19:05
Speaker 7: they take donations for their free food if you feel
• 19:08
Speaker 7: like donating to the club. And how the club uses
• 19:11
Speaker 7: the money is they give back to the communities that
• 19:14
Speaker 7: they are involved in. For instance, they're very involved in
• 19:18
Speaker 7: the Marine Corps Toys for Tots every year and they
• 19:22
Speaker 7: take the money that they raised throughout the summertime during
• 19:27
Speaker 7: the cruise ends and they probably buy twenty to thirty
• 19:30
Speaker 7: bicycles and just turn them over to the Marine Corps
• 19:33
Speaker 7: and all the club members come in with stuff, but
• 19:37
Speaker 7: they contribute back. They have contributed to the Nitro History
• 19:41
Speaker 7: and Wars Museum. But they just reach out to the
• 19:45
Speaker 7: community and just show their love for being in the
• 19:48
  Speaker 7: Canal Valley area.
• 19:50
Speaker 4: Talking again with Joe Stevens about this big cruis that's
• 19:53
Speaker 4: going on the scene in Marty Groar Casino and a resort,
• 19:56
Speaker 4: the Dave Allance showing five Any Live is brought to

• 20:03
Speaker 4: car show rain or shine tonight.
• 20:07
Speaker 7: It is going on and right now it's weather forecast.
• 20:10
Speaker 7: I'm talking to Spencer actings of WWK. He says, it's
• 20:14
Speaker 7: it's it's gonna be dry and it's gonna be fun
• 20:16
Speaker 7: and uh, just head up on the hill, be there.
• 20:19
Speaker 7: But yes, if it the weather does turn on us,
• 20:23
Speaker 7: and it never does that, does it, David, If the
• 20:25
Speaker 7: weather does. If it does, we will make a decision
• 20:28
Speaker 7: and we'll get it out on social media through the
• 20:31
Speaker 7: Marty Grass facebook page in the City of Nitro's Facebook
• 20:34
Speaker 7: page and Antique Car Club's Facebook page. But right now
• 20:37
Speaker 7: we're clean and green and you don't in yellow for sun.
• 20:41
Speaker 4: You don't have to register ahead of time, right you
• 20:44
Speaker 4: just kind of kind of kind of jump in exactly.
• 20:47
Speaker 7: This is a cruise in where you just kind of
• 20:49
Speaker 7: bring your cars up and have them out on display,
• 20:53
Speaker 7: and that we will have a car show, the annual
• 20:56
Speaker 7: Antique Car Club car Show where they give out trophies
• 21:01
Speaker 7: and prizes and that sort of thing. That will be
• 21:03
Speaker 7: September sixth here in Nitro during Boomtown Days. But this
• 21:08
Speaker 7: one just a cruise in. You got something old. That's
• 21:10
Speaker 7: why they let me at ten all the time. I'm
• 21:13
  Speaker 7: an antique.
• 21:14
Speaker 4: I resisted the temptation when you were talking about Madelaise
• 21:18
Speaker 4: to ask you if that was the car you took
• 21:20
Speaker 4: to your high school prom. I resisted the temptation, Joseph,
• 21:23
  Speaker 4: just so you.
• 21:23
Speaker 7: Know, actually it was a seventy two Torino. But that's
• 21:29
Speaker 7: another story for another time.
• 21:30
Speaker 4: All star skin hutch there right, yeah, yeah, exactly a
• 21:35
Speaker 4: few years later after that, all right, before we let
• 21:38
Speaker 4: you go? What else I mean you mentioned about the
• 21:39
Speaker 4: Boomtown Days coming up that's in September. But what else
• 21:42
Speaker 4: is new in Nitro these days?
• 21:45
Speaker 7: Well, obviously the new pickleball court. Do you indoor pickleball
• 21:49
Speaker 7: court at the Nitro Athletic Complex. It's getting a lot
• 21:53
Speaker 7: of play, a lot of folks are getting memberships. That's actually,
• 21:57
Speaker 7: Dave when you could be playing twenty four to seven
• 22:00
Speaker 7: because it's available to members. When you can't sleep at
• 22:03
Speaker 7: night or two o'clock, you can grab that pickleball, uh
• 22:06
Speaker 7: paddle and head on over and play a few rounds.
• 22:09
Speaker 7: I know that's something high on your listing.
• 22:11
  Speaker 4: Is absolutely absolutely.
• 22:13
Speaker 7: But the pickleball courts are doing just doing great. A
• 22:17
Speaker 7: lot of people are enjoying it. So that's the big
• 22:20
Speaker 7: thing right now. And you know, we just kind of
• 22:22
Speaker 7: just let it. Oh. One thing yesterday that happened and
• 22:26
Speaker 7: you may have maryk case fold on here soon to
• 22:30
Speaker 7: talk about it. But the old Nitro High School which
• 22:34
Speaker 7: is right there at the corner of Second Avenue and
• 22:37
Speaker 7: twenty first Street, that was auctioned off yesterday and Nitro's
• 22:40
Speaker 7: land Use UH land Reuse Authority purchased on the auction,
• 22:46
Speaker 7: So now we're just gonna be figuring out what to
• 22:50
Speaker 7: do with the building. But the old high school building
• 22:53
Speaker 7: is a property of the city.
• 22:54
Speaker 4: All right. Got another text here for you're popular. Everybody's popular,
• 22:58
Speaker 4: but me today, Angie Gillenwater was too old. Car cruise
• 23:01
Speaker 4: ins used to have a DJ playing some fifties and
• 23:04
Speaker 4: sixties music, anything like that, says a Texter.
• 23:07

• 23:10

• 23:20
Speaker 7: The music will be playing by Clint and it'll be happening.
• 23:24
Speaker 7: Like I said, it will be happening from five to eight.
• 23:26
Speaker 7: They usually show up a little bit earlier than that,
• 23:28
Speaker 7: but the cars will be coming in and talking to
• 23:32
Speaker 7: Carl Waitner of the general manager of Marty Graw, he says,
• 23:36
Speaker 7: if people want to stay past eight o'clock, we'll keep
• 23:38
  Speaker 7: on going.
• 23:39
Speaker 4: All right, let me go back to the before I
• 23:41
Speaker 4: let you go go back to that, to the old
• 23:43
Speaker 4: Nitral High School situation. Any idea. I mean, I don't
• 23:46
Speaker 4: want to speculate and get you any kind of trouble
• 23:48
Speaker 4: on the air. But as you heard anything about what
• 23:50
Speaker 4: they what may happen to it is just going to

Speaker 4: EDA recently, and yeah, the public knew some of the
• 25:49
Speaker 4: stuff that went on there. Their management is terrible and
• 25:52
Speaker 4: this could have been done overnight, like most things that
• 25:55
Speaker 4: they stop daytime traffic for. Their road patching is also
• 25:58
Speaker 4: very flawed. They know the right way way to do it,
• 26:00
Speaker 4: but won't. Well, this was not taking an issue with

Speaker 4: Joe Garret from The Dirty Birds is here, as well
• 29:39
Speaker 4: as newcomer to the show, Abigail Cunningham. Jill, good morning,
• 29:43
Speaker 4: Welcome to the show.
• 29:44
Speaker 14: Good morning, thanks Dave.
• 29:45
Speaker 4: I've been on in a while.
• 29:46
  Speaker 2: I know.
• 29:46
Speaker 11: I was just thinking about it's been a minute.
• 29:48
Speaker 4: What you what you've been up to here lately?
• 29:49
  Speaker 5: Oh?
• 29:50
Speaker 14: You know, a lot of baseball?
• 29:51
Speaker 4: Really what you do?
• 29:52
Speaker 11: I do a little bit of baseball, A.
• 29:53
Speaker 4: Little baseball here and there. So they just wrapped up
• 29:56
Speaker 4: for a road swing, right, How are we doing?
• 29:58
  Speaker 12: How?
• 29:58
  Speaker 15: Yeah?
• 29:59
Speaker 14: Season looking that we just started the second half. So
• 30:01
Speaker 14: remember in minor league baseball, you don't have an overall
• 30:05
Speaker 14: record of making it to the playoffs. It's the second half,
• 30:07
Speaker 14: so we basically have a clean slate. So to start
• 30:09
Speaker 14: off the second half, I believe we're three and three
• 30:11
Speaker 14: right now, so we're doing all right, not bad.
• 30:13
Speaker 4: And who we playing this weekend this.
• 30:14
Speaker 14: Weeking is Hager's town, so it should be a good matchup.
• 30:16
Speaker 14: We did lose to them earlier in the first half,
• 30:19
Speaker 14: but we have some new guys, so we're excited and
• 30:21
Speaker 14: we're pushing for the second half. That's when we made
• 30:23
Speaker 14: it to the championship last year, was in the second Yeah.
• 30:26
Speaker 4: Yeah, I remember that. I mean, you have the second
• 30:28
Speaker 4: half was everything. How does it work when you get
• 30:30
Speaker 4: the new guys in talk about that briefly.
• 30:31
Speaker 14: Yeah, it's a little different. So we, you know, meet
• 30:34
Speaker 14: them and they come in and they just kind of
• 30:36
Speaker 14: have to hop right in. It's a little bit different.
• 30:38
  Speaker 3: You know.
• 30:38
Speaker 14: It's not like a college where you have everyone there
• 30:41
Speaker 14: the entire time. It's not like affiliated ball where you've
• 30:43
Speaker 14: known each other for years and you've been to spring
• 30:45
Speaker 14: training together. So it is different figuring out the chemistry.
• 30:47
Speaker 14: But our guys are good. They're excited to play baseball
• 30:50
Speaker 14: and they're here to compete.
• 30:51
Speaker 4: And of course the minor league baseball promotions are just
• 30:54
Speaker 4: almost as almost as important as the game, almost because
• 30:57
Speaker 4: you had so many great promotions and we've got some
• 30:59
Speaker 4: more to be working on with you. As a matter
• 31:02
Speaker 4: of fact, we were talking about doing the break. We're
• 31:03
Speaker 4: gonna be doing an eighties night here pretty soon. We
• 31:05
Speaker 4: are pumped about that to be there. I mean, we've
• 31:07
Speaker 4: had a bunch of old heads up here in this building,
• 31:09
Speaker 4: like myself. We're excited about that. But you know, some
• 31:12
Speaker 4: things this weekend and we've got Abigail Cunningham with us.
• 31:15
Speaker 4: Abigail want you to introduce yourself to the folks.
• 31:17
Speaker 15: Hi, my name is Abigail Cunningham and I am the
• 31:19
Speaker 15: development and Communications coordinator for Community Autism Resources and Education
• 31:24
  Speaker 15: Systems CARES.
• 31:25
Speaker 4: Okay, and I did on the promo, I said, I
• 31:27
Speaker 4: got a couple of jills coming in because I thought
• 31:29
Speaker 4: Jill Scarborough was going to join us. But Abigail, you'll
• 31:32
Speaker 4: do fine. I'm sure. Just pay attention to Jill, to
• 31:36
Speaker 4: this Jill over here, you'll do fine. So what kind
• 31:39
Speaker 4: of work do you do within that job?
• 31:41
Speaker 15: So communication side of things. I'm in charge of basically
• 31:44
Speaker 15: everything that everyone sees, Yeah, exactly, social media, newsletter marketing,
• 31:50
Speaker 15: all of that good stuff. And then development is fundraising.
• 31:54
Speaker 15: So I'm writing grants. I'm trying to make connections. And
• 31:57
Speaker 15: Jill is the queen of connections, as you guys know,
• 31:59
Speaker 15: She's the one that's got us in with the dirty
• 32:01
Speaker 15: Birds and has made it's such an amazing partnership. We're
• 32:03
Speaker 15: so grateful to be working with them.
• 32:06
Speaker 4: All right, So what do we got going on here
• 32:07
Speaker 4: with the Agail. I'll let you jump in here. What's so,
• 32:09
Speaker 4: because we've got several things going on to ballpark this weekend,
• 32:12
Speaker 4: but tell us about this event specifically in this partnership.
• 32:15
Speaker 14: Yeah, so this is tonight. Gates open at five point thirty.
• 32:17
Speaker 14: As you know, Friday's freebe Friday. We always have a
• 32:19
Speaker 14: giveaway and this one is kind of sensory theme. So
• 32:22
Speaker 14: we're calling it stim City Night. Not necessarily a sensory
• 32:26
Speaker 14: friendly night because it's still a ballgame. There's still gonna
• 32:28
Speaker 14: be loud noises and things like that, but there will
• 32:31
Speaker 14: be sensory rooms, a sensory shack, resources to learn about
• 32:35
Speaker 14: autism and like people like Cares organizations like Cares, wv
• 32:39
Speaker 14: ABLE people like that, where there are resources to help families.
• 32:44
Speaker 14: I guess kind of like acclimate, right is that the
• 32:45
Speaker 14: right word acclimate for if they have someone with autism
• 32:49
Speaker 14: And it's gonna be a really fun event. We're really
• 32:51
Speaker 14: excited to partner with Cares. This is the second year
• 32:53
Speaker 14: that we're partnering with them, but the first time in
• 32:55
Speaker 14: a big way during baseball season.
• 32:57
Speaker 4: So in your role as communications, what you and Jill's
• 33:00
Speaker 4: Garbor and others do What kind of information do you
• 33:02
Speaker 4: try to get out to people? I mean people that
• 33:04
Speaker 4: may not understand it because you hear and Jill's been
• 33:07
Speaker 4: on this show and on Metro News Midday with me
• 33:09
Speaker 4: several times and you hear this blanket term like autism,
• 33:12
Speaker 4: and there's so many different factors. What in the limited
• 33:16
Speaker 4: time that you have when you do events like this,
• 33:18
Speaker 4: what is it that you try to impart upon people?
• 33:21
Speaker 15: Really it's education and acceptance. So an event like tonight
• 33:25
Speaker 15: for stem City, we are having such a mixed audience,
• 33:27
Speaker 15: so they'll be families with children with autism and then
• 33:29
Speaker 15: general community members who may not know very much about autism.
• 33:33
Speaker 15: So stim City is really important because we have an
• 33:35
Speaker 15: opportunity to show people what stemming is and that we
• 33:39
  Speaker 15: all do it.
• 33:40
Speaker 5: You know, what is it?
• 33:41
Speaker 15: What is it's self regulation?
• 33:43
Speaker 4: What does it stand because it stands for something, right.
• 33:46
Speaker 14: Stimulization like short short, okay, yeah, like if you're over stimulized.
• 33:50
  Speaker 4: I got it.
• 33:51
  Speaker 15: Yeah, So it's a way to regulate when you're a
• 33:53
Speaker 15: little overstimulated or you're nervous. So, you know, I fiddle
• 33:56
Speaker 15: with my rings, my bracelets. That's how I stem. I
• 33:58
Speaker 15: see you're chewing gum over there. That might be how
• 34:00
  Speaker 15: you used tom.
• 34:01
  Speaker 12: I didn't.
• 34:02
  Speaker 4: I didn't realize I did that. I mean not for
• 34:04
  Speaker 4: that purpose.
• 34:05
Speaker 15: A lot of us don't even realize we do it
• 34:06
Speaker 15: in some ways. And our kids with autism, you know,
• 34:08
Speaker 15: they do get a little more overstimulated than we do.
• 34:11
Speaker 15: They perceive the world differently, so they stem in different
• 34:13
Speaker 15: ways that are maybe more obvious. So trying to impart
• 34:16
Speaker 15: that knowledge on other people that we all do it,
• 34:18
Speaker 15: we just all do it differently, and that's okay.
• 34:20
Speaker 4: Well I've learned something about myself. I thought i'd just
• 34:23
Speaker 4: like going there you go, there you go. So how
• 34:26
Speaker 4: important is a partnership like this for the dirty birds
• 34:28
Speaker 4: to get involved in this.
• 34:29
Speaker 14: Remember the Dirty Birds aren't just a baseball team, We're
• 34:31
Speaker 14: a community center. That's what our big goal is, especially
• 34:34
Speaker 14: when Andy Shay took over the team, was this is
• 34:36
Speaker 14: a community space and a community space for everyone, including
• 34:40
Speaker 14: people with autism, family with autism, and for me, my
• 34:42
Speaker 14: mom was a special ed teacher and I remember hearing
• 34:45
Speaker 14: stories about families and not feeling comfortable going out in
• 34:48
Speaker 14: the community because they were afraid of their child being
• 34:50
Speaker 14: overstimulated and having a breakdown. And being able to have
• 34:54
Speaker 14: Gomart Ballpark with the Dirty Birds be a quote unquote
• 34:57
Speaker 14: safe space for that where we're going to have sensory
• 34:59
Speaker 14: rooms up in the sweet level. We are working on
• 35:01
Speaker 14: having a sensory shack for every single event that we
• 35:04
Speaker 14: have at the ballpark. Two we have sensory friendly bags.
• 35:07
Speaker 14: So being able to be a true community space genuinely
• 35:10
  Speaker 14: means for everyone.
• 35:12
Speaker 4: Now this is just one It's like I said, it's
• 35:14
Speaker 4: a busy weekend at the ballpark, So let's kind of
• 35:16
Speaker 4: fast forward to what's going on tomorrow.
• 35:18
Speaker 14: Yep, our Pepperoni Role Festival is back and we're doing
• 35:21
Speaker 14: it a different time. Last year was at three o'clock,
• 35:23
Speaker 14: but this time we want it to be kind of
• 35:25
Speaker 14: surrounding the baseball game, So gates open at five o'clock
• 35:27
Speaker 14: for that, you can come taste some different Pepperoni rolls
• 35:30
Speaker 14: from different partnerships, and then stay late for the MegaBLAST fireworks.
• 35:34
Speaker 14: Then of course Sundays always kids get in for free
• 35:36
Speaker 14: twelve and under one dollar water bottles, one dollar mini
• 35:38
  Speaker 14: golf is yeah.
• 35:39
Speaker 4: Now will you would players be wearing the Pepperoni roles?
• 35:41
Speaker 4: Will they transition into that or is that not going
• 35:43
  Speaker 4: to happen?
• 35:44
  Speaker 5: Not this year?
• 35:45
Speaker 14: So when we did the Pepperoni role Festival, I think
• 35:47
Speaker 14: the second year, we did the jerseys and everything and
• 35:50
Speaker 14: we auctioned them off, so we don't have those anymore.
• 35:52
Speaker 14: We are hoping to do that for next year, but
• 35:54
Speaker 14: we do still have some Pepperoni roll hats that are
• 35:56
Speaker 14: for sale in the team store.
• 35:58
Speaker 4: All right, sounds like it's gonna be a great weekend
• 36:00
Speaker 4: and you had us of Pepperoni rolls.
• 36:01
Speaker 11: Oh yeah, I'm excited.
• 36:02
Speaker 14: It's right behind the press box too, so I'm gonna
• 36:04
Speaker 14: sneak out pretty much every half enning to grab a
• 36:06
  Speaker 14: bite of Now.
• 36:07
Speaker 4: Now, now, you not being from here, as we say
• 36:09
Speaker 4: in West Virginia, were you aware of pepperoni roles at
• 36:12
Speaker 4: all before you came here? Not at all, Not at all,
• 36:14
Speaker 4: Not at all, No, because it's really not a thing,
• 36:17
Speaker 4: I mean outside Appalachia, specifically out of West Virginia. And
• 36:21
Speaker 4: it's one of the few foods that I think West
• 36:23
Speaker 4: Virginia can say is one hundred hours. Yes, because some
• 36:26
Speaker 4: of the country foods that I grew up on, the
• 36:28
Speaker 4: pento beans of corporate, I mean, that comes from other places,
• 36:30
Speaker 4: you know, many times the origins being in the countries
• 36:33
Speaker 4: that we all came from. But pepperoni roles, man, that's
• 36:37
Speaker 4: I mean, even my buddy Tony the Taylor, who was
• 36:39
Speaker 4: mister Everything when it comes to Italian culture, will tell
• 36:41
Speaker 4: you that's that's. That particular thing is pretty much a
• 36:45
  Speaker 4: West Virginia thing.
• 36:46
  Speaker 11: Only definitely.
• 36:46
Speaker 14: I did not know what it was until I stepped
• 36:48
Speaker 14: foot in the ballpark and saw that we sold them,
• 36:50
Speaker 14: and I didn't really understand what it was. Tried it,
• 36:53
Speaker 14: love it. I've been ordering a different restaurants. My husband
• 36:55
Speaker 14: loves them, so we've been eating a lot of pepperoni lately.
• 36:57
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 36:57
Speaker 4: Well, it's it's good stuff and there's so many different
• 36:59
Speaker 4: ways to make it. They're almost like hot dogs, I mean,
• 37:03
Speaker 4: and people get into arguments over what's a real West
• 37:05
Speaker 4: Virginia pepperone? And as I reference Tony, Tony says, if
• 37:08
Speaker 4: it doesn't have stick pepperoni, it's not a pepperoni role.
• 37:10
Speaker 4: And it's cheese on it, it's not a pepperoni role. Interesting,
• 37:13
Speaker 4: So but well it's Tony. He doesn't know what he's talking.
• 37:16
Speaker 4: But yeah, But anyway, it's gonna be a great week
• 37:18
Speaker 4: And what' you go going on Sunday?
• 37:19
Speaker 14: On Sunday is our normal family fun Sunday, nothing extra
• 37:22
Speaker 14: to it. But it's a great day because kids twelve
• 37:25
Speaker 14: and under get in for free. It's a three or
• 37:26
Speaker 14: four start. So if you're like me and don't like
• 37:29
Speaker 14: driving home at night, it's the perfect game. So it's
• 37:31
Speaker 14: to come out because you're usually driving home in the sun.
• 37:33
Speaker 4: Still, you go, it's gonna be a great weekend at
• 37:35
Speaker 4: the ballpark. You guys always do a fantastic job. And Abigail,
• 37:38
Speaker 4: it's pleasure to have you on the show. Uh, you said,
• 37:41
Speaker 4: you're everything communication, So if people want any information about
• 37:44
Speaker 4: anything that you guys do outside of the Dirty Birds,
• 37:47
Speaker 4: what's the best way to do that? To check out
• 37:48
Speaker 4: on social media or what.
• 37:50
Speaker 15: Yeah, you can check us out on Facebook and Instagram
• 37:52
Speaker 15: at WV Cares for Autism or go to our website,
• 37:56
Speaker 15: wv Cares for Autism dot work.
• 37:58
Speaker 4: All right, well, so for pleasure to have you on
• 38:00
Speaker 4: the show, and Jill, it's always great to see you.
• 38:02
Speaker 4: We get the Pepperoni Role Festival going on. We get
• 38:05
Speaker 4: this thing going on.
• 38:06
Speaker 14: Fireworks, fireworks on Saturday. Yep, stim City Tonight tomorrow is
• 38:10
Speaker 14: Pepperoni Role Festival. Fireworks on Saturday and then Sunday kids
• 38:14
Speaker 14: get in for free. And as always, you can just
• 38:15
Speaker 14: go to Dirtybirdsbaseball dot com.
• 38:17
Speaker 4: You guys do a fantastic job with your social media.
• 38:18
  Speaker 4: That's where I get all the information from. I don't
• 38:21
Speaker 4: have the schedule though in front of me. Are we
• 38:23
Speaker 4: home or away next week?
• 38:24
Speaker 14: So next week we will be home Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
• 38:28
Speaker 14: To be frank with you, I don't remember who we're playing,
• 38:30
Speaker 14: but it's Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and then we're on
• 38:33
Speaker 14: the road for another week.
• 38:33
Speaker 4: All right, guys, I appreciate you being here, Thanks a lot,
• 38:36
Speaker 4: and we'll look forward to seeing you at the ballpark
• 38:38
Speaker 4: this weekend. Thanks Dave, all right, it's a nine to
• 38:39
Speaker 4: forty five. We'll take to break just a little bit early.
• 38:42
Speaker 4: You like pig roast? Are you a pig roast person?
• 38:45
Speaker 14: I've never tried one, to be honest with you.
• 38:47
Speaker 4: Yeah, what big event going on down in Boone County
• 38:50
Speaker 4: with the WVU Alumni Association. They do this thing. They've
• 38:53
Speaker 4: done it for years since it's a big pig roast
• 38:55
Speaker 4: that's going on this weekend. Merrily mccauliff, our good friend
• 38:58
Speaker 4: from WWKTV thirteen somehow got roped into this sort of
• 39:02
Speaker 4: thing and so she is going to join us when
• 39:04
Speaker 4: we come back to talk about it right after this

Speaker 4: you can get free food and drinks during your hectic,
• 42:10
Speaker 4: NonStop day. First it's free slurpies at seven eleven, then
• 42:13
Speaker 4: free Marty Gros Casino food in Nitro tonight, I forgot it.
• 42:17
Speaker 4: I guess seven eleven still does that. I guess there's
• 42:20
Speaker 4: free slurpies on seven eleven. Back in the day, other
• 42:24
Speaker 4: radio stations that I worked at, we used to do
• 42:26
Speaker 4: a live broadcast from seven to eleven on seven eleven,
• 42:29
Speaker 4: and one particular a couple of times we actually did
• 42:32
Speaker 4: like three seven elevens in one day. Started in the morning,
• 42:35
Speaker 4: packed up, went to the other seven eleven and in
• 42:37
Speaker 4: the other seven eleven. So all right, sales team, get
• 42:39
Speaker 4: me out to get Ryan and me out to a
• 42:41
Speaker 4: seven eleven for some slurpees. Tex says, you can say
• 42:45
Speaker 4: what you want, but our state is hit rock bottom.
• 42:47
Speaker 4: It's the worst I've seen in sixty two years. No
• 42:49
Speaker 4: matter what party you support, it doesn't take away what
• 42:52
Speaker 4: the eye can see and ears to hear. There's not
• 42:54
Speaker 4: a good outlook for our states. Sad to be a mountaineer.
• 42:57
Speaker 4: On that happy note, let me bring in our good
• 42:59
Speaker 4: friend Marilyn mccaulloff from WOWK TV thirteen.
• 43:02
  Speaker 7: How are you.
• 43:03
  Speaker 11: I'm doing well.
• 43:04
  Speaker 7: How are you?
• 43:04
  Speaker 13: Dave?
• 43:04
Speaker 4: Welcome to her new digs. You've been on the show
• 43:06
Speaker 4: several times, but you've never been here doing this.
• 43:08
Speaker 11: It looks great. I've heard everyone comment when they come
• 43:10
Speaker 11: in for the first time. It looks great. It almost
• 43:11
Speaker 11: looks like the backdrop of a stand up comedy routine.
• 43:14
Speaker 11: I feel like you're going to tell me a joke.
• 43:16
Speaker 4: Pretty much. It is not necessarily with Amanda, but with me,
• 43:20
Speaker 4: it pretty much is. And that's genuine simulated brick. Okay,
• 43:26
Speaker 4: we spared no expense.
• 43:27
Speaker 11: It's heard. It looks great.
• 43:28
Speaker 4: All right, all right, So let's go to Boone County
• 43:31
Speaker 4: for a moment. You're doing the pig roast, Is that right?
• 43:34
Speaker 11: Yeah? This is going to be a really good time.
• 43:36
Speaker 11: I have to say I have not been before, but
• 43:39
Speaker 11: they reached out and needed an MC and here I am,
• 43:41
Speaker 11: and I'm so excited to go. So the event is
• 43:43
Speaker 11: taking place this Saturday. The twelfth and it's going to
• 43:45
Speaker 11: be at Waterway, so a really great venue. There's going
• 43:48
Speaker 11: to be food, games, prizes, two pigs they're roasting. It's
• 43:52
Speaker 11: just going to fill the area with a pig rost smell.
• 43:55
Speaker 11: It's going to be great.
• 43:56
  Speaker 3: You know.
• 43:56
Speaker 4: Last segment, we had Joe Garret off for the Dirty
• 43:58
Speaker 4: Bards and she revealed and I jilled I've known each
• 44:00
Speaker 4: other for a couple of years now, and she revealed
• 44:03
Speaker 4: two things to me that she had She'd never had
• 44:05
Speaker 4: a pepperoni role until she came to West Virginia, which
• 44:08
Speaker 4: is acceptable, but she'd also never even now has never
• 44:11
Speaker 4: been to a pig ros.
• 44:12
Speaker 11: We can change that.
• 44:13
Speaker 4: Now you're a Southern person. You're a Southern person sort of,
• 44:16
  Speaker 4: I would say.
• 44:17
Speaker 11: I mean, I'm from Richmond, Virginia.
• 44:18
  Speaker 4: Let's that's in the south.
• 44:20
Speaker 11: Hey, there you go.
• 44:20
Speaker 4: All right, So so so you know you know about pigros.
• 44:24
Speaker 11: Yeah right, We're gonna have a good time, eat a
• 44:26
Speaker 11: lot of eat a lot of barbecue. There's tickets are
• 44:29
Speaker 11: thirty five dollars, by the way, and you'll get dinner, drinks.
• 44:33
Speaker 11: They've got great entertainment to Claudia Heyser is going to
• 44:36
Speaker 11: be there as well as Brandon Williams and he Williamson
• 44:40
Speaker 11: excuse me. And they're both really great musical artists. They
• 44:44
Speaker 11: do a lot of country music and some originals. It's
• 44:48
Speaker 11: just going to be such a great time, really looking
• 44:49
  Speaker 11: forward to.
• 44:49
Speaker 4: And the sponsor is this, I mean, who are out
• 44:51
  Speaker 4: there for?
• 44:52
  Speaker 2: Yes?
• 44:52
Speaker 11: Okay, so the WVU alumni and friends are putting this on,
• 44:56
Speaker 11: and it's such a great opportunity for folks to come
• 44:58
Speaker 11: out and just mingle with everyone in w friends, and
• 45:04
Speaker 11: you know, this is also a fundraiser for a Boone
• 45:06
Speaker 11: County student to attend WVU. So it's it's really a
• 45:10
Speaker 11: neat opportunity to have fun for a reason.
• 45:12
Speaker 4: And it's not that far away. It's just a waterway,
• 45:14
Speaker 4: so it's I mean, you know what fifteen minutes twenty
• 45:17
Speaker 4: minutes spend on traffic of so these days with traffic
• 45:19
Speaker 4: you have to say, well, it's four days to get there.
• 45:22
Speaker 4: Now it won't be.
• 45:23
Speaker 11: Yeah, hopefully we won't have to contend with any.
• 45:25
Speaker 4: Track now we should be. We should were you caught
• 45:27
Speaker 4: up in all that yesterday? Were probably already at work.
• 45:29
Speaker 4: I guess what it was.
• 45:30
Speaker 11: I checked the five to one one cameras on the
• 45:31
Speaker 11: way out and I saw what was going on, and
• 45:34
Speaker 11: there really wasn't a lot of relief. The back roads
• 45:37
Speaker 11: were also back doun.
• 45:38
  Speaker 3: I know.
• 45:38
Speaker 11: It was just really unfortunately I was not stuck in it.
• 45:40
  Speaker 3: Now.
• 45:41
Speaker 4: No, hopefully we'll get that taken care of. And again,
• 45:43
Speaker 4: this organization, I'm very well aware of what they do
• 45:46
Speaker 4: down there. What's the official it's the boot, It's the
• 45:48
  Speaker 4: wd Alumni Friends.
• 45:50
Speaker 11: It's sort of a good problem to have. They were
• 45:52
Speaker 11: growing so much that it wasn't just WVU alumni, it
• 45:56
Speaker 11: was other folks wanted to help. So it's a WVU
• 45:59
Speaker 11: Alumni and Friends organization. So it's alumni and community members
• 46:03
Speaker 11: and fans of the university coming together looking for a
• 46:08
Speaker 11: reason to celebrate for a cause. And this is what
• 46:10
Speaker 11: they've come up with and people love it.
• 46:12
Speaker 4: And good news from the news department. They've opened all
• 46:15
  Speaker 4: lanes of traffic.
• 46:16
Speaker 11: Oh did that just happen?
• 46:17
Speaker 4: It just literally happened right there.
• 46:19
Speaker 11: Incredible. You've heard it your live.
• 46:21
Speaker 4: You heard it here live. We've written in this here.
• 46:22
Speaker 4: All lanes are open now. It'll be another couple hours
• 46:25
Speaker 4: before the traffic starts moving like it's supposed to do,
• 46:27
Speaker 4: but all lanes are open, according to Jeff Jenkins in
• 46:30
Speaker 4: the newsroom. Let me see. Jeff is also saying, I'm
• 46:32
Speaker 4: going to take a few minutes. What I just said,
• 46:34
Speaker 4: You're going to take a few minutes to get the
• 46:35
Speaker 4: traffic flow back to normal. I'm gonna go ahead and
• 46:37
Speaker 4: predict this is probably going to take longer than that.
• 46:39
Speaker 4: And you know, we've been spending time at a lot
• 46:42
Speaker 4: of time talking about WVU this week because you know
• 46:44
Speaker 4: rich Rod. You know, we actually carried some of that
• 46:47
Speaker 4: press conference on Metro News Midday the other day, and
• 46:50
Speaker 4: we've had people on the show talking about the return
• 46:52
Speaker 4: of rich Rod. There is an excitement about this program
• 46:56
Speaker 4: right now and time heals all wounds, as they say,
• 47:00
Speaker 4: of folks were remember the days when how Rich Rod left.
• 47:03
  Speaker 4: But he's back, and there's such a fever I think
• 47:07
Speaker 4: with this program right now. What do you guys here
• 47:09
  Speaker 4: and over.
• 47:09
Speaker 11: Where you work, Well, yeah, same And you know, my
• 47:12
  Speaker 11: husband is a w V alumni and a big, big
• 47:15
Speaker 11: fan of the football team too, and so he's, uh,
• 47:18
Speaker 11: he's excited going to see what happens.
• 47:20
Speaker 4: And all these former players are taking part in it.
• 47:22
Speaker 4: I mean, they're they're coming back as coaches or just
• 47:24
Speaker 4: and that's that's something. And we talked about this on
• 47:27
Speaker 4: the show, had Jim Workman on the person of the
• 47:29
Speaker 4: Sports Writers Association on Yashually we talked about that that
• 47:33
Speaker 4: right or wrong. Some of the former players, and I've
• 47:35
Speaker 4: talked to several of them, just did not feel welcome
• 47:38
Speaker 4: under you know, under coach Brown or coach Holgerson. You know,
• 47:41
Speaker 4: I'm not throwing in shade on them. I'm just saying
• 47:42
Speaker 4: that the players told me they just didn't feel welcome
• 47:44
Speaker 4: as part of the program. Rich Rud's a guy that
• 47:46
Speaker 4: gets it. He gets mountaineer culture. You know, he's a mountaineer.
• 47:50
Speaker 4: Uh and uh and so h just a lot of
• 47:52
Speaker 4: exciting and this time you look, you know, I'm a mayor,
• 47:54
Speaker 4: I'm a football fanatic, and this time in July, and
• 47:57
Speaker 4: I love baseball, but in July, I'm thinking, gosh, it's
• 48:00
Speaker 4: pre season football ever gonna get here? And whatever I mean,
• 48:03
Speaker 4: I need, I need merely that feeling of being disappointed
• 48:07
Speaker 4: by my Dallas Cowboys. I need. I need that rush
• 48:10
Speaker 4: of them losing when Prescott does something stupid. I need
• 48:14
Speaker 4: that in my life. Care Yeah, probably it probably will happen.
• 48:17
Speaker 4: And what times everything starts to mor night.
• 48:19
Speaker 11: So it's gonna kick off at four pm on Saturday
• 48:21
Speaker 11: and the food will be served at four thirty at Waterway.
• 48:24
Speaker 4: Okay, And do you need to get tickets in advance?
• 48:26
Speaker 11: So tickets, No, you can get them when you enter,
• 48:30
Speaker 11: so you can get them at the event.
• 48:31
Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, but you know, and I don't haven't looked ahead,
• 48:35
Speaker 4: should I? Spencer Adkins? What the weather's going to be
• 48:37
  Speaker 4: tomorrow night?
• 48:38
  Speaker 11: And be hot?
• 48:39
  Speaker 7: Be hot?
• 48:39
Speaker 11: The last a few days have really been just hit
• 48:41
Speaker 11: or miss with these showers. But it seems like it
• 48:44
Speaker 11: will just be toasty.
• 48:45
Speaker 4: And you know, if you're not a pig ross kind
• 48:47
Speaker 4: of person, all the fixings, as they say, see I knew,
• 48:50
Speaker 4: I knew I had to get the Southern out of you. Somehow,
• 48:52
Speaker 4: all the fixings will be there. What do when you
• 48:55
Speaker 4: you know, we in this business get asked to MC
• 48:57
Speaker 4: these events all the time, and unfortunately times there's only
• 49:00
Speaker 4: so much time in today and we have to pass
• 49:02
Speaker 4: up as a TV personality that what do you get
• 49:06
Speaker 4: out of this? I mean going out and meeting with
• 49:07
Speaker 4: people and doing this meeting with the people.
• 49:09
Speaker 11: So this will be the first time I do the
• 49:11
Speaker 11: Piggrius and I'm really looking forward to it and hanging
• 49:13
Speaker 11: out with the crowd there. And I just finished up
• 49:17
Speaker 11: doing the regatta and I was helping out doing the
• 49:21
Speaker 11: Wiener Dog Race and that was just so much fun.
• 49:23
Speaker 11: I feel like we have a really good mix of
• 49:25
Speaker 11: unique events. We have so many unique events. Any one
• 49:30
Speaker 11: of these events you go to, you're gonna have a
• 49:32
Speaker 11: good time, and they're all supporting local projects, so it's
• 49:37
Speaker 11: just a lot of fun.
• 49:38
Speaker 4: And going back to the Wiener Dog Race, I have
• 49:40
Speaker 4: to give a shout out to my good friend and
• 49:42
Speaker 4: frequent sparring partner Mike Pushkin, Delegate Mike push and State
• 49:46
Speaker 4: Democratocratic Party chair, whose dog Daisy won the I'm not
• 49:52
Speaker 4: a Wiener dog category?
• 49:53
Speaker 14: Is that what it was?
• 49:54
  Speaker 6: Okay?
• 49:54
Speaker 11: So so funny. I saw him there. I guess there
• 49:57
Speaker 11: wasn't enough dogs to race against Daisy, so we pulled
• 50:01
Speaker 11: my dog out of the crowd. Pebbles is a winder
• 50:04
Speaker 11: dog mix of all different kinds, so they raced against
• 50:06
Speaker 11: each other and Pebbles lost. So congratulations to Daisy. Yeah
• 50:10
Speaker 11: they're in the same heat.
• 50:11
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 50:11
Speaker 4: Well, I had We had Pushkin on the show the
• 50:13
Speaker 4: other day and he was a little upset because he
• 50:15
Speaker 4: couldn't bring Daisy in because I think Daisy wanted to
• 50:17
Speaker 4: take like a you know, victory lap or something here.
• 50:19
Speaker 4: So but you need to throw this in here, older
• 50:23
Speaker 4: adults to protect themselves again, severe respiratory disease. Talk to
• 50:25
Speaker 4: your doctor about flu, COVID nineteen and RSV, vaccines, Risk
• 50:28
Speaker 4: Lass do more, Get started Vaccines dot gov. Paid for
• 50:31
Speaker 4: by the US Department of Health and Human Services. I
• 50:33
Speaker 4: think sometimes again, and this is a little inside baseball here,
• 50:37
Speaker 4: but sometimes when we do these jobs like you and
• 50:40
Speaker 4: I do. You said in these boxes, and you you
• 50:42
Speaker 4: don't get out to see enough people sometimes because you
• 50:45
Speaker 4: know you're working fourteen hours if not more sometimes a day,
• 50:48
Speaker 4: and you can't do every event that people ask you.
• 50:51
Speaker 4: But sometimes you do like to get out, and it's
• 50:52
Speaker 4: a get. I had a radio consult at one time.
• 50:54
Speaker 4: Tell me said, sometimes you get you got to get
• 50:56
Speaker 4: out among real people, because we're not real people, you know,
• 51:00
Speaker 4: we're not real normal people. Sometimes you got to get
• 51:02
Speaker 4: out and you just got to find out what's on.
• 51:04
Speaker 4: And doing talk radio, I hear what's on people's minds,
• 51:07
Speaker 4: but you get to actually get out and see and
• 51:10
Speaker 4: see people and talk to them. Find out what's going
• 51:11
Speaker 4: on in their lives, find out that their lives are
• 51:13
Speaker 4: far more interesting than ours are because all we do
• 51:15
Speaker 4: is work. So there you go.
• 51:16
Speaker 11: Yeah, I'm working all the time.
• 51:18
Speaker 4: I'm in therapy for it. Just so you know, I'm
• 51:20
Speaker 4: just gonna let you know merely, I appreciate you being here.
• 51:22
Speaker 4: What's going on with you? You folks over at thirteen.
• 51:24
Speaker 4: I hear it from my co host Amanda Baron, but
• 51:27
Speaker 4: I actually want the truth this time, So I'm kidding.
• 51:29
  Speaker 4: Go ahead.
• 51:30
Speaker 11: We have an exciting thing going on right now. We
• 51:33
Speaker 11: have an app so on the on the Roku app,
• 51:37
Speaker 11: we are all contributing our own half hour show, and
• 51:41
Speaker 11: mine is sort of a continuation of Good Day at four,
• 51:43
Speaker 11: the four o'clock so I do on WWK where I
• 51:47
Speaker 11: talk to folks having events that are going on, and
• 51:50
Speaker 11: it'll be a little bit more of that, sort of
• 51:53
Speaker 11: an expansion of that. So, for example, I had Denis
• 51:55
Speaker 11: Workman with the Pigros come on and talk on Good
• 51:58
Speaker 11: Day at four as well as talk on this app
• 52:01
Speaker 11: that we're doing in my show. The new show for
• 52:03
Speaker 11: me is called Community Matters with Merrily, and we've just
• 52:06
Speaker 11: got a couple episodes under our belt and it can
• 52:08
Speaker 11: be viewed on the Roadkuo.
• 52:10
Speaker 4: App all right, Well, appreciate it as always. You take
• 52:12
Speaker 4: a time out of your schedule to be here again
• 52:14
Speaker 4: before we let you go, give us the information on
• 52:16
Speaker 4: the event tomorrow. Just yees, so make sure everybody knows it.
• 52:19
Speaker 11: Yes, everybody, the WVU alumni and friends.
• 52:21
  Speaker 2: Pig roast.
• 52:22
Speaker 11: It's happening in Boone County at Waterways. Gates open at four.
• 52:26
Speaker 11: You can get your tickets there and food will be
• 52:28
Speaker 11: served at four thirty. It's going to be such a
• 52:29
Speaker 11: great time and I really look forward to everybody being there, and.
• 52:31
Speaker 4: Everybody that needs to get their mountaineer fix on now
• 52:34
Speaker 4: would be the time to do it. Merely, I appreciate
• 52:36
Speaker 4: you being here. Thanks a lot. Hang out with me here.
• 52:38
Speaker 4: Just one second. Texas just crossed Carter westbound, smooth sailing
• 52:42
Speaker 4: with no backup, says a texture Texas. I hope that
• 52:47
Speaker 4: someone has told the stories and showed the videos to
• 52:49
Speaker 4: those new Mountaineer players. Exactly what Pat White, Steve Slayton,
• 52:52
Speaker 4: the Runaway Beer Truck Owned Schmidt, and Pat McAfee mean
• 52:55
Speaker 4: so much of us as fans and representatives of the
• 52:57
Speaker 4: school and our whole state as a whole, very good
• 53:00
Speaker 4: way to leave. Merrily, mccaluff I appreciate you being here.
• 53:03
Speaker 4: Thanks to all the other guests on the show again.
• 53:05
