- 0:04Speaker 1: Hey, hello, friends from across the nation and around the world.
- 0:08Speaker 1: I'm Martin, and you are listening to Dad's bedtime stories.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Today it's Saturday, which means it's time for another compilation episode,
- 0:17Speaker 1: a super story, if you will. And as you know,
- 0:21Speaker 1: we've been kind of going back to the Kid Wizard
- 0:24Speaker 1: episodes a world where imagination is magic in a very
- 0:30Speaker 1: literal sense, and today we're going to take on episodes
- 0:34Speaker 1: five and six. Episode five is about nature, magic and
- 0:40Speaker 1: a forest fire, and episode six involves a magic carpet race. Honestly,
- 0:46Speaker 1: I barely remember doing these episodes, so it's kind of
- 0:49Speaker 1: fun to go back and see what happens. Anyways, I
- 0:53Speaker 1: really hope you like them. But now it's that time again.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Time to get as comfy as you can in that bed,
- 1:02Speaker 1: close your eyes and imagine yourself doing what the Kid
- 1:07Speaker 1: Wizard in the story does. You open your eyes and
- 1:14Speaker 1: look around. You can see that you're inside the little
- 1:20Speaker 1: pocket dimensioned bedroom of your backpack. You get up as usual,
- 1:26Speaker 1: get dressed, get ready, have breakfast, and then you head
- 1:31Speaker 1: up the little ladder in the center of the room.
- 1:35Speaker 1: As you climb up, a zipper unfolds above your head.
- 1:40Speaker 1: You climb straight out at the top with a little
- 1:43Speaker 1: backpack and find yourself in the middle of a forest.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I was learning about nature magic before. Out
- 1:55Speaker 1: of nowhere, another backpack appears. The top of it opens up,
- 2:01Speaker 1: and out climbs your teacher, Martin. Good morning, Martin says,
- 2:11Speaker 1: good morning. What do you want to get up to today? Well,
- 2:16Speaker 1: maybe we could continue learning about this nature magic thing.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that would be a great idea, you respond,
- 2:26Speaker 1: and then you hear a strange beeping noise. Now, when
- 2:31Speaker 1: is it this time, Martin says, pulling out his magic
- 2:36Speaker 1: wand and looking at it as the tip of it
- 2:39Speaker 1: flashes a bright red color. He flicks the wand and
- 2:43Speaker 1: in the air in front of you appears the face
- 2:47Speaker 1: of another wizard. Well, hello there, and unfortunately there's a
- 2:54Speaker 1: little bit of a wild magic that's appeared in the
- 2:58Speaker 1: real world. It's causing quite a well, a forest fire,
- 3:05Speaker 1: the wizard explains, a forest fire. Martin says, again, those
- 3:14Speaker 1: things are the worst. All right, we'll be right there.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Come on, kid, we better get going. Uh, what's happening,
- 3:24Speaker 1: you ask, No, it's another forest fire. Those things can
- 3:29Speaker 1: get out of control real fast, Martin says, as his
- 3:34Speaker 1: magic carpet flies out of his backpack and unfolds itself
- 3:39Speaker 1: beside him. He steps on to it as you do
- 3:43Speaker 1: the same thing with your magic carpet. Once again, the
- 3:48Speaker 1: carpet wraps its little fibers around your feet, and you
- 3:52Speaker 1: and Martin take off into the air, soaring high above
- 3:57Speaker 1: the forest that surrounds the Magic Academy. As you fly,
- 4:03Speaker 1: Martin continues to explain things. Well, you see, forest fires
- 4:10Speaker 1: are a problem because they get people worried, and as
- 4:15Speaker 1: you know, belief is what fuels magic, and well, worry
- 4:20Speaker 1: can be even more powerful because people tend to kind
- 4:25Speaker 1: of focus on it too long. Anyway, as soon as
- 4:29Speaker 1: a fire starts and it can get out of control quickly,
- 4:34Speaker 1: and if it's a wild magic causing it in the first.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Place, this could be bad. Kid.
- 4:42Speaker 1: You don't like the sounds of that, but you know,
- 4:46Speaker 1: with Martin by your side, everything's going to be just fine.
- 4:51Speaker 1: The two of you fly back towards the ancient and
- 4:54Speaker 1: old tree that leads you into the real world again.
- 5:00Speaker 1: You fly directly into the tree into a portal that
- 5:04Speaker 1: leads to a strange and colorful tunnel winding left and
- 5:09Speaker 1: right and up and down. Before eventually flying out the
- 5:13Speaker 1: other side back into the real world. In a large
- 5:18Speaker 1: and dense forest. You follow Martin higher and higher and
- 5:24Speaker 1: higher into the air, high above the clouds, where no
- 5:28Speaker 1: one will see you, and wonder what's up with the
- 5:31Speaker 1: magic carpet. You soar high above the world with the
- 5:37Speaker 1: sun on your face and against your skin. Martin never
- 5:42Speaker 1: explained exactly where it was you were going, but you
- 5:46Speaker 1: trust him enough to follow him wherever it is. Before
- 5:51Speaker 1: too long, he begins to descend below the clouds. As
- 5:56Speaker 1: you follow behind him, you find yourself once again and
- 6:00Speaker 1: high above a large forest. Only this one is covered
- 6:06Speaker 1: in all sorts of thick smoke. In the distance you
- 6:10Speaker 1: can see where it's coming from. A huge area of
- 6:15Speaker 1: the forest is completely set on fire. Oh no, that
- 6:22Speaker 1: looks really bad. It is, but we've dealt with things
- 6:27Speaker 1: like this before. With enough wizards, we should be fine.
- 6:33Speaker 2: As you look.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Around you you see other wizards flying through the air
- 6:38Speaker 1: as well, some of them atop magic carpets like you,
- 6:42Speaker 1: while others ride broomsticks, motorcycles, and even flying skateboards. The
- 6:50Speaker 1: possibilities for flying things seem pretty much endless, and you
- 6:55Speaker 1: can't wait to try out something else. The wizards fly
- 6:59Speaker 1: to every edge of the giant forest fire. They pull
- 7:04Speaker 1: out their wands, and bit by bit they create an
- 7:09Speaker 1: illusion around the area. The air shimmers, and the view
- 7:14Speaker 1: of the forest fire is replaced with the view of
- 7:18Speaker 1: a forest fire that's being fought with huge water planes
- 7:23Speaker 1: and helicopters. As the wizards themselves pass through the new illusion,
- 7:30Speaker 1: they just sort of disappear. This is a great cover,
- 7:35Speaker 1: you realize.
- 7:37Speaker 2: As you pass.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Through the outside of the illusion, the view changes once again,
- 7:43Speaker 1: and you see all the other wizards once again, flying
- 7:47Speaker 1: from place to place, summoning water from nearby lakes or rivers,
- 7:54Speaker 1: shooting beams of ice down at the fire, each one
- 7:58Speaker 1: just trying to do their has to put part of
- 8:01Speaker 1: it out. As you circle around the area beside Martin,
- 8:06Speaker 1: he points to something there. It is, he says, the
- 8:11Speaker 1: center of it. Sometimes these strange, wild and unregulated magic
- 8:19Speaker 1: seem to appear from nowhere. It's both a good and
- 8:24Speaker 1: a bad thing. The bad side is the forest fire,
- 8:28Speaker 1: of course, But the good side is that if we
- 8:31Speaker 1: catch this thing, we can harness its power to create
- 8:35Speaker 1: other magical items, and it has a lot of power.
- 8:41Speaker 2: We can.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Yeah, But first We're going to have to get close
- 8:46Speaker 1: to it. Help me out. Martin flies down towards the fire.
- 8:51Speaker 1: He lifts his wand up in the air. It glows
- 8:55Speaker 1: a bright blue color, and he shoots a blue beam
- 8:59Speaker 1: of icy air down towards the ground. As the beam
- 9:04Speaker 1: hits the trees that are on fire, the fire goes
- 9:08Speaker 1: out almost immediately, and it even leaves a layer of
- 9:12Speaker 1: ice behind. You decide to try to help out. The
- 9:17Speaker 1: ability to use your ice magic has become much more
- 9:21Speaker 1: reflexive over the last little while. The more you do it,
- 9:26Speaker 1: the less you have to think about it. You no
- 9:29Speaker 1: longer have to go back to that place where you
- 9:33Speaker 1: attempted to feel very very cold. Instead, you just have
- 9:39Speaker 1: to remember what it feels like to shoot out a
- 9:42Speaker 1: beam of ice, and it kind of happens. You lift
- 9:46Speaker 1: your wand up in the air, you allow the power
- 9:49Speaker 1: of ice and cold to pass through your limbs. Then
- 9:53Speaker 1: you focus it into your wand shooting a slightly different
- 9:58Speaker 1: looking but very simil beam of ice towards the ground. Together,
- 10:05Speaker 1: you and Martin carve out a circle around the wild magic,
- 10:10Speaker 1: freezing the area on both sides of it, so the
- 10:13Speaker 1: fire completely goes out. When there's enough room. Martin lands
- 10:19Speaker 1: on the ground beside the huge ball of floating fire
- 10:24Speaker 1: that's shooting little fire balls in every single direction.
- 10:29Speaker 2: You do the same.
- 10:31Speaker 1: You can feel the heat against your skin. It's really
- 10:35Speaker 1: really intense. All right now, I say we try to
- 10:41Speaker 1: trap it with ice. It might be the only way
- 10:44Speaker 1: to contain the heat. And I'm not sure this is
- 10:49Speaker 1: gonna be enough, he says, looking towards his wand he
- 10:53Speaker 1: reaches into his pocket and pulls out a tiny little backpack.
- 10:58Speaker 1: The backpack immediately grows to full size in his hand,
- 11:02Speaker 1: and he sticks his arm down inside it, reaching around
- 11:06Speaker 1: for something. It's still strange to see his arm go
- 11:11Speaker 1: deeper than the bag should allow. But you're getting a
- 11:15Speaker 1: little bit used to it. Ah, there it is, he says,
- 11:20Speaker 1: as he pulls out a huge staff with a large
- 11:24Speaker 1: crystal on the top. This should do, he says. He
- 11:30Speaker 1: grabs the staff in his hands, he spins it around
- 11:33Speaker 1: his body like a bow staff, doing figure eights and
- 11:38Speaker 1: loop to loops. Then he rises it high up into
- 11:42Speaker 1: the air, where it glows a bright blue color. He
- 11:46Speaker 1: then slams the butt of the thing into the ground.
- 11:51Speaker 1: As soon as it hits A flash of blue energy
- 11:55Speaker 1: shoots out into the ground in every direction. The ground
- 11:59Speaker 1: itself starts to become covered in ice. The ice and
- 12:04Speaker 1: circles the Wild Magic and slowly grows towards it. As
- 12:10Speaker 1: it does, the wild Magic starts to get even hotter.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Pushing back against the ring of ice, Martin focuses as
- 12:21Speaker 1: much as he can, doing his best to believe that
- 12:25Speaker 1: the ice will overtake the fire. I could use some helpier, kid,
- 12:33Speaker 1: he says, Oh right, you realize. You take your wand
- 12:38Speaker 1: you lift it up into the air as well. It
- 12:42Speaker 1: glows the same bright blue color, and you slam it
- 12:46Speaker 1: down into the ground, trying to copy whatever it is
- 12:49Speaker 1: Martin did. Either way, you focus on sending your ice
- 12:55Speaker 1: energy through the ground around the Wild Magic and towards
- 13:01Speaker 1: the large ball of fire. You try to drown out
- 13:06Speaker 1: any other sounds, any other thoughts, and you just imagine
- 13:11Speaker 1: the ice spreading through the ground and encompassing the Wild
- 13:15Speaker 1: Magic and a large ball of ice. And sure enough
- 13:21Speaker 1: it starts to work, but pretty slowly. The ice approaches
- 13:27Speaker 1: the large ball of fire, and it starts to make headway,
- 13:32Speaker 1: crawling up the bottom and around the sides, but the
- 13:39Speaker 1: Wild Magic keeps pushing back, creating such intense heat that
- 13:44Speaker 1: the layer of ice breaks and falls to the ground.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Other wizards, seeing what's going on, fly to your side.
- 13:53Speaker 1: They line up on every side of the wild magic,
- 13:57Speaker 1: and each one lends their paths to it. With enough wizards,
- 14:04Speaker 1: the work becomes easy. The ice easily shoots back through
- 14:09Speaker 1: the ground, up and around the wild magic, creating a
- 14:14Speaker 1: thick ball of ice. Then the ice starts to glow.
- 14:19Speaker 1: It shrinks, it shrinks and shrinks, and then it suddenly
- 14:24Speaker 1: solidifies into something that looks like glass, with a large
- 14:30Speaker 1: fireball in the center. You release your attempts to freeze
- 14:35Speaker 1: the thing, and the other wizards do the same, everyone
- 14:39Speaker 1: feeling pretty tired. As you look around, you see some
- 14:45Speaker 1: of the other wizards still putting out other parts of
- 14:48Speaker 1: the forest fire, but generally speaking, things are looking pretty good.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Some wizards run and grab the large ball of fire
- 14:59Speaker 1: that's now contained in some sort of magical casing, and
- 15:03Speaker 1: they fly off with it, presumably back to the magic Academy.
- 15:08Speaker 1: You look around at the forest devastated by fire, large
- 15:14Speaker 1: black trees.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Smoke going into the air.
- 15:19Speaker 1: This is terrible, you say, anah, This well, yeah, but
- 15:26Speaker 1: with some magic it won't be a problem. If we
- 15:30Speaker 1: just left it alone, all the seeds would grow back
- 15:34Speaker 1: into trees, and in almost no time at all we'd
- 15:38Speaker 1: have a new forest. But we can make it happen faster. First, though,
- 15:44Speaker 1: we're gonna need some nutrients. Martin takes his staff and
- 15:49Speaker 1: presses it right against his throat where his vocal cords are,
- 15:54Speaker 1: and then he starts to speak, and his speech is
- 15:58Speaker 1: amplified up into the air for everyone to hear. Guys,
- 16:04Speaker 1: we're gonna need some water here, and this plaze is
- 16:07Speaker 1: bone dry, he announces. The wizards, hearing what he's saying,
- 16:14Speaker 1: begin to fly higher up into the air. They zoom
- 16:19Speaker 1: off in each different direction, and then each one returns
- 16:24Speaker 1: with a large well, a large cloud. The clouds begin
- 16:30Speaker 1: to form together into a huge gray rain cloud, and
- 16:35Speaker 1: before long the rain starts to hit the ground. And
- 16:40Speaker 1: then it gets faster and faster and faster, until soon
- 16:45Speaker 1: enough it's raining so quickly that you become completely drenched
- 16:50Speaker 1: in water. The ground itself, not even having time to
- 16:56Speaker 1: absorb it, starts to puddle with huge pools of the stuff.
- 17:02Speaker 1: All right, now, step two, Martin says, as the rain
- 17:07Speaker 1: clouds dissipate above them, and the sun comes back out.
- 17:12Speaker 1: He reaches his staff up in the air, and instead
- 17:16Speaker 1: of glowing a bright blue color, this time it glows
- 17:20Speaker 1: a bright green color. Once again, he slams the staff
- 17:26Speaker 1: down into the ground, and lines of green energy travel
- 17:30Speaker 1: through the ground into little seeds that are spread all
- 17:35Speaker 1: around him. The seeds start.
- 17:38Speaker 2: To glow and glow.
- 17:41Speaker 1: And then they begin to sprout, first into tiny little seedlings,
- 17:47Speaker 1: and then into little trees, and then into bigger trees,
- 17:53Speaker 1: and then they just keep growing and growing and growing
- 17:57Speaker 1: until they tower around you once more, looking like they're
- 18:02Speaker 1: well thirty or forty years old already. How do you
- 18:08Speaker 1: do that, well, Martin says, as I said, I was
- 18:14Speaker 1: going to teach you this anyways.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Is it some kind of nature magic?
- 18:20Speaker 1: You ask, well, kind of, But it's more nature magic
- 18:26Speaker 1: mixed with time magic.
- 18:28Speaker 2: As I said before, what I'm.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Doing is kind of tricking the seeds into existing faster,
- 18:38Speaker 1: if that makes any sense. Man.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Don't get that mistaken.
- 18:42Speaker 1: With moving faster, they're completely different things, although they do
- 18:47Speaker 1: go together sort of. You see, when you make something
- 18:51Speaker 1: exist faster, every single atom in it starts to spin faster,
- 18:58Speaker 1: to go go through time at a faster rate, and
- 19:03Speaker 1: as it does, it absorbs the nutrients around it, and
- 19:07Speaker 1: it grows into large trees. You can use your nature
- 19:11Speaker 1: magic at the same time to direct how they grow
- 19:15Speaker 1: or how they twist. I've already taught you that part. Okay,
- 19:22Speaker 1: so all I have to do is make things exist faster,
- 19:26Speaker 1: I think.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Guess I'll give it a try.
- 19:28Speaker 1: You say, all right, and I'll work on other parts
- 19:32Speaker 1: of the forest. As Martin moves his way around the
- 19:36Speaker 1: forest and coaxes all of the little seeds to grow
- 19:40Speaker 1: into large trees once again, you kneel down in front
- 19:45Speaker 1: of one little pine cone. You look at the pine cone,
- 19:50Speaker 1: and you decide that this might be the right place
- 19:54Speaker 1: to start. You close your eyes and begin to focus
- 19:59Speaker 1: on your breath, steadily in and out. With each breath,
- 20:07Speaker 1: you allow your shoulders to relax more and more. You
- 20:13Speaker 1: allow your face to soften in a nice half smile,
- 20:17Speaker 1: and you hold your wand gently in your hand. You
- 20:23Speaker 1: focus your attention on the pine cone. You allow the
- 20:28Speaker 1: pine cone to become one with well your thoughts, and
- 20:35Speaker 1: as you do, you start to see the pine cone
- 20:39Speaker 1: inside your head. Using your mind, you kind of zoom
- 20:45Speaker 1: in on the pine cone, seeing it closer and closer
- 20:50Speaker 1: and closer, until you're so zoomed in that you can
- 20:56Speaker 1: see it on an atomic level, little atoms just vibrating together.
- 21:04Speaker 1: You imagine the atoms to start moving faster, existing faster,
- 21:10Speaker 1: as Martin suggested, and slowly, but surely they begin to
- 21:17Speaker 1: speed up faster and faster and faster. The pine cone
- 21:24Speaker 1: quickly deteriorates in front of you, and then one part
- 21:29Speaker 1: of it sprouts little roots that reach into the ground. Next,
- 21:35Speaker 1: a tiny little stem pops up. Encouraged by the progress,
- 21:41Speaker 1: you imagine each part of the thing moving even faster,
- 21:46Speaker 1: absorbing all of the water and nutrients from the ground
- 21:50Speaker 1: that it needs and from the sun that's shining brightly
- 21:53Speaker 1: above you. And sure enough, it continues to grow at
- 21:59Speaker 1: an even fast faster pace, growing into a little seedling,
- 22:04Speaker 1: and then a small tree, reaching up towards the sky
- 22:09Speaker 1: to become a medium sized tree, and then going further
- 22:14Speaker 1: and further and further, reaching higher and higher towards the sky.
- 22:19Speaker 1: As the trunk expands quickly in the ground in front
- 22:23Speaker 1: of you, you continue to focus on the tree as
- 22:27Speaker 1: it grows faster and faster and faster. When you open
- 22:33Speaker 1: your eyes. All you can see is a giant tree trunk,
- 22:39Speaker 1: a trunk much wider and thicker than you, and much
- 22:44Speaker 1: wider and thicker than any of the other trees. Whow kid,
- 22:50Speaker 1: take it easy there, That thing's like two hundred years
- 22:55Speaker 1: old already, oh, you say, as you look up at
- 23:00Speaker 1: the tree of oops. The tree is huge, much much
- 23:10Speaker 1: much bigger than any of the other trees in the
- 23:13Speaker 1: surrounding area. You summon your magic carpet and step aboard.
- 23:20Speaker 1: You fly up towards the top of the tree, and
- 23:23Speaker 1: you see that it sticks up out of the forest
- 23:26Speaker 1: a lot more than any of the other trees. You
- 23:29Speaker 1: might have gotten a little carried away, but the view
- 23:32Speaker 1: from up here is amazing. And that's when you get
- 23:37Speaker 1: another idea, I wonder.
- 23:40Speaker 2: You say.
- 23:43Speaker 1: You reach your consciousness out towards the tree once more,
- 23:47Speaker 1: allowing your energy to pass through the wand and into
- 23:50Speaker 1: the tree. This time, you use the nature magic you
- 23:56Speaker 1: learned to give the tree permission to release its hardness,
- 24:02Speaker 1: allowing it to become malleable. And then, using your mind,
- 24:09Speaker 1: you coax the tree into moving into winding its branches
- 24:13Speaker 1: together into a little platform high above the world, complete
- 24:20Speaker 1: with a little railing on the outside and living branches
- 24:25Speaker 1: growing out of each corner. When you release your mind,
- 24:30Speaker 1: you see a beautiful platform sitting in front of you,
- 24:35Speaker 1: completely woven out of the branches from the top of
- 24:38Speaker 1: the tree. You land on the platform and you look
- 24:44Speaker 1: out over the forest. Martin flies up and lands beside you.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Wow. Kid, good idea and great view.
- 24:56Speaker 1: You and Martin watch as the wizards around you you
- 25:00Speaker 1: begin to disappear, flying away from the now rebuilt forest.
- 25:06Speaker 1: As they go, they take their illusion with them, revealing
- 25:11Speaker 1: and absolutely breath taking. Sunset and as the sun sets,
- 25:19Speaker 1: you're starting to get sleepy too well. It may be
- 25:24Speaker 1: time to take a little rest. You say, that took
- 25:28Speaker 1: a lot out of me. You reach into your pocket
- 25:31Speaker 1: and pull out your tiny little backpack. You put your
- 25:35Speaker 1: hand on either side of it and expand the backpack
- 25:40Speaker 1: in much the same way one would zoom in using
- 25:43Speaker 1: a tablet or touchscreen. You open up the backpack, place
- 25:50Speaker 1: it on the ground, and you step inside, finding the
- 25:55Speaker 1: sturdy ladder and climbing back down towards your little pocket
- 25:59Speaker 1: to the backpack closes above you and completely disappears from existence.
- 26:07Speaker 1: As far as anyone else can tell, you immediately jump
- 26:11Speaker 1: in the comfy bed, your mind still centered from the
- 26:16Speaker 1: focus you put on growing the tree. You lay your
- 26:21Speaker 1: head down on the soft pillow, and you go back
- 26:26Speaker 1: to your breath once again, each breath relaxing your muscles,
- 26:33Speaker 1: allowing you to sink down deeper and deeper into the mattress,
- 26:39Speaker 1: and allowing your mind to drift off to a wonderful
- 26:44Speaker 1: and relaxing sleep. Imagine yourself waking up inside your pocket dimension.
- 26:52Speaker 1: You've been practicing all of your different magic skills for.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Days and days and days.
- 26:59Speaker 1: You've now mastered fire, ice, levitation, and even a fair
- 27:06Speaker 1: bit of nature magic. Today, you feel like taking a
- 27:11Speaker 1: bit of a break from practice, maybe exploring the area
- 27:16Speaker 1: around the Magic Academy. You look down on the ground
- 27:21Speaker 1: and you see your magic carpet sitting there, the very
- 27:25Speaker 1: magic carpet that picked you up for the first time
- 27:29Speaker 1: and delivered you to the Magic Academy. You climb aboard
- 27:34Speaker 1: the carpet and together you float up out of your
- 27:37Speaker 1: little pocket dimension. The zipper of the backpack opens up
- 27:42Speaker 1: above you, and you rise up out of it into
- 27:47Speaker 1: the real world, or at least the Magic Academy part
- 27:52Speaker 1: of the real world. You find that you're already outside
- 27:57Speaker 1: the castle. You grab your back, smush it together to
- 28:02Speaker 1: make it shrink down small enough to fit in your pocket,
- 28:05Speaker 1: and you take off on your magic carpet, flying high
- 28:09Speaker 1: up into the sky. You spend some time floating around
- 28:15Speaker 1: the castle, through the enchanted forest and just looking at
- 28:20Speaker 1: all of the different sites there are to see. And
- 28:25Speaker 1: that's when you see a group of other wizards approaching,
- 28:29Speaker 1: and they're led by none other than Tarannas Rexington, your
- 28:37Speaker 1: least favorite wizard. Well, if it isn't the kid from
- 28:43Speaker 1: the non wizarding world, what's that you're riding around on
- 28:49Speaker 1: one of the carpets that I give it to you
- 28:51Speaker 1: by the Agadamy. Look, everyone, he's got a basic carpet.
- 28:59Speaker 1: All of the other wizards start to point and laugh
- 29:02Speaker 1: at you. You never really thought of your magic carpet
- 29:07Speaker 1: as basic before, and you like this magic carpet. This
- 29:15Speaker 1: magic carpet's way better than yours, You respond, even though
- 29:20Speaker 1: you know it's probably not true. Tyrannus Rexington and most
- 29:26Speaker 1: of his friends are floating around on either things that
- 29:30Speaker 1: look like snowboards or floating skateboards, very very stylish and
- 29:38Speaker 1: very expensive looking. You've learned over your time at the
- 29:42Speaker 1: Magic Academy that different wizards seem to have different preferences
- 29:48Speaker 1: for different flying objects. A magic carpet is given to
- 29:53Speaker 1: each wizard when they start at the Magic Academy, but
- 29:57Speaker 1: you assume from there you can either buy or make
- 30:01Speaker 1: another one. You're honestly not really sure. Well, if you
- 30:08Speaker 1: think that your cop it is better than mine, Tyrannus responds,
- 30:15Speaker 1: then I challenge you to a race. His friends immediately
- 30:22Speaker 1: start to chatter with one another, tapping each other on
- 30:25Speaker 1: the shoulders and talking excitedly about what this race may
- 30:31Speaker 1: look like. As quickly as you can, you think through
- 30:35Speaker 1: your different options to race or not to race, But
- 30:40Speaker 1: when you see all of the others staring at you,
- 30:44Speaker 1: and you look down at your carpet, you know there's
- 30:48Speaker 1: no other choice. I'll race you, you respond, And where
- 30:54Speaker 1: do you want to do this anyways? Oh well, I'm
- 30:59Speaker 1: not sure. Perhaps just follow me and we'll find somewhere
- 31:06Speaker 1: to race somewhere I've totally never raced before or practiced
- 31:13Speaker 1: for this exact moment, Tyrannus says. There's a bit of
- 31:18Speaker 1: a strange response, but you decide to just kind of
- 31:22Speaker 1: shake it off. And see where this takes you. Tyrannus
- 31:27Speaker 1: and his friends fly up into the sky. You, standing
- 31:31Speaker 1: aboard your magic carpet, fly after him. They lead you
- 31:37Speaker 1: across the enchanted forest and all the way over to
- 31:41Speaker 1: a large volcano that's spewing ash and smoke at all times.
- 31:47Speaker 1: You fly up to the very top of the volcano,
- 31:52Speaker 1: and there you find two starting flags and a large
- 31:57Speaker 1: sign that says Race of Doom. You immediately start to
- 32:03Speaker 1: get a little wary about this. Something seems off here.
- 32:10Speaker 1: As Tyrannus lands beside the starting posts to the Race
- 32:15Speaker 1: of Doom, he explains the rules. All right, well, we
- 32:23Speaker 1: will both leave at the same time. The race is
- 32:28Speaker 1: marked with different magical checkpoints to keep you on track.
- 32:34Speaker 1: They light up a bright color until you pass through
- 32:38Speaker 1: them man wnchtime, they just sort of disappear. The race
- 32:46Speaker 1: should lead you down into the volcano through a series
- 32:52Speaker 1: of tunnels, pass a whole bunch of very spiky and
- 32:59Speaker 1: very dangers obstacles, and then to right over there where
- 33:05Speaker 1: the finish line is. Rexington points down to the bottom
- 33:11Speaker 1: of the volcano where you see another set of gates.
- 33:16Speaker 1: Finish gates. Uh okay, I think I've got it. Have
- 33:23Speaker 1: you raised this race before, though, you ask, oh me,
- 33:29Speaker 1: well a few times, but not in a long time.
- 33:33Speaker 1: I mean, I should be pretty rusty. I think it's
- 33:38Speaker 1: rather safe. You know that he's lying to you, but
- 33:44Speaker 1: you also know that at this point there's nothing you
- 33:48Speaker 1: can really do about it. Why would you have agreed
- 33:51Speaker 1: to this in the first place. You shouldn't let peer
- 33:54Speaker 1: pressure push you into doing really dumb, dangerous things like
- 34:00Speaker 1: flying through a mountain of a lava on a magic carpet.
- 34:04Speaker 1: But before you can finish that thought, you hear one
- 34:08Speaker 1: of the other students announcing the start to the race.
- 34:12Speaker 1: Ready three two one and go Immediately, Tarannus Rexington zooms
- 34:21Speaker 1: off straight down the center of the volcano. You snap
- 34:26Speaker 1: back into focus and follow behind him as quickly as
- 34:30Speaker 1: you can, going through the starting gate and then dropping
- 34:34Speaker 1: down rapidly straight towards the lava. You pass through several
- 34:39Speaker 1: glowing gates on the way down. Each one makes a
- 34:43Speaker 1: little digging sound as you pass through, almost like you're
- 34:47Speaker 1: in some kind of video game. Just before the gates
- 34:52Speaker 1: hit the huge pool of lava at the bottom of
- 34:55Speaker 1: the volcano, they lead you towards the side through a
- 35:00Speaker 1: little tunnel that shoots off to the left. You do
- 35:05Speaker 1: your best to will the magic carpet to go faster
- 35:08Speaker 1: and faster, and it starts to obey. You make your
- 35:13Speaker 1: way through the tunnel at rapid speed, dodging left and
- 35:18Speaker 1: right and up and down. As you pass through another
- 35:22Speaker 1: series of gates, the tunnel leads you into another cavern
- 35:26Speaker 1: that's full of lava, and not just any lava, but
- 35:31Speaker 1: lava with little rocks that shoot up out of the ground.
- 35:36Speaker 1: You stop for a second as you watch Tyrannus Rexington
- 35:40Speaker 1: head straight through the room, dodging around the flaming balls
- 35:45Speaker 1: of rock and passing through each one of the gates
- 35:50Speaker 1: in turn. You take a deep breath once again, and
- 35:54Speaker 1: then you will the magic carpet forward, blasting through the cavern,
- 36:00Speaker 1: dodging left and right as huge balls of rocky fire
- 36:05Speaker 1: shoot up out of the ground. One of them singes
- 36:08Speaker 1: the carpet just a little as you pass through, but
- 36:12Speaker 1: either way, you're quick enough to be able to navigate
- 36:16Speaker 1: the room with relative ease. As soon as you stop
- 36:20Speaker 1: worrying about the flaming balls of rock, you once again
- 36:25Speaker 1: shoot through another cavern, Only this one seems to have
- 36:30Speaker 1: all sorts of obstacles. This particular tunnel is covered in
- 36:35Speaker 1: half walls walls that come down from the sea, laying
- 36:39Speaker 1: or up from the ground or off from the side.
- 36:42Speaker 1: You quickly have to duck down below them, jump up
- 36:45Speaker 1: over top of them, or swing from side to side.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Once again, you make your way through the tunnel like
- 36:54Speaker 1: a pro, dodging each obstacle with relative ease, and you
- 37:00Speaker 1: even catch up to Tyrannus Rexington again. The two of
- 37:05Speaker 1: you head into the next area neck and neck, but
- 37:10Speaker 1: this area is even scarier than the first. There's huge
- 37:14Speaker 1: metal spikes sticking out of the walls and the ceiling
- 37:18Speaker 1: and the ground. In order to hit all of the gates,
- 37:22Speaker 1: you have to quickly wind around them. It's all pretty
- 37:27Speaker 1: easy until you realize that the spikes move and shift.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Some of the spikes start disappearing back into the walls,
- 37:36Speaker 1: an other ones suddenly shoot out, causing you to suddenly
- 37:40Speaker 1: lurch to the left to avoid one of them, or
- 37:43Speaker 1: off to the right. Still neck and neck with Tyrannus,
- 37:48Speaker 1: you make your way through the room of spikes back
- 37:52Speaker 1: through another tunnel, and you find yourself on the final
- 37:56Speaker 1: stretch towards the finish line. Only something seems off about it.
- 38:03Speaker 1: The ground below you starts to rumble and grumble, and
- 38:08Speaker 1: then spikes start shooting out.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Of it as well.
- 38:12Speaker 1: You dodge the spikes from left to right as you
- 38:14Speaker 1: head towards the finish line. You will yourself just a
- 38:19Speaker 1: little bit ahead of Tyrannus, and you're about to pass
- 38:24Speaker 1: through the finish line when a spike unexpectedly shoots up
- 38:29Speaker 1: beneath you. This time, you're not quite quick enough to move.
- 38:35Speaker 1: The spike doesn't hit you, but it does catch your
- 38:39Speaker 1: magic carpet. You watch as the carpet rips in half
- 38:44Speaker 1: below you. At the last minute, Tyrannus pulls ahead, flies
- 38:50Speaker 1: through the finish line of the obstacle course, and you
- 38:55Speaker 1: fall to the ground just short of it, with two
- 39:00Speaker 1: pieces of a magic carpet attached to your feet. Your
- 39:05Speaker 1: magic carpet has been completely destroyed.
- 39:11Speaker 2: All of the other.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Students begin to laugh, and together with their friend Tyrannus,
- 39:17Speaker 1: they fly away, telling you to have fun getting home.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Oh no, this isn't going to be easy. You find
- 39:28Speaker 1: that even though your magic carpet's ripped in half, you
- 39:32Speaker 1: can still kind of get it to fly. It's just
- 39:36Speaker 1: a lot less stable than you'd expect.
- 39:40Speaker 2: You do your.
- 39:41Speaker 1: Best to carefully float up over the trees and head
- 39:45Speaker 1: slowly back towards the castle. It doesn't take you as
- 39:49Speaker 1: long as you thought it would, but it certainly isn't easy.
- 39:55Speaker 1: You land outside the castle doors and you head into
- 39:59Speaker 1: the train room where Martin's normally hanging out. As soon
- 40:04Speaker 1: as you enter, you see him, and he sees you.
- 40:08Speaker 1: What happened to you? He says, You tell him the
- 40:13Speaker 1: story about how you got into this whole situation in
- 40:17Speaker 1: the first place, and how you ripped your magic carpet. Now, well,
- 40:23Speaker 1: I guess you're gonna have to make a new one.
- 40:25Speaker 1: Then come on over here and I'll show you how
- 40:31Speaker 1: make a new one. You think I can make a
- 40:34Speaker 1: magic carpet, you ask, well, the magic carpet or some
- 40:41Speaker 1: sort of other flying device. And wizards have all sorts
- 40:44Speaker 1: of preferences. Some of them like to use the traditional broom,
- 40:50Speaker 1: Others prefer a more modern feel, using something more akin
- 40:54Speaker 1: to a snowboard or a skateboard. Honestly, it's really up
- 40:59Speaker 1: to you. If you want to fly around on a
- 41:01Speaker 1: magic table, we can make that happen. Well, what do
- 41:07Speaker 1: you recommend?
- 41:08Speaker 2: You ask?
- 41:09Speaker 1: Martin for you, well, maybe you should try a skateboard.
- 41:17Speaker 1: And I know it's not really your traditional flying device,
- 41:21Speaker 1: but the cool thing about them is they just kind
- 41:24Speaker 1: of blend in in the real world too. When people
- 41:28Speaker 1: see you flying around on a magic carpet and kind
- 41:32Speaker 1: of gets their backs up. But with a skateboard, you
- 41:36Speaker 1: can just switch over to rolling around on the ground magically,
- 41:40Speaker 1: and nobody asks a question. Huh you think imagining yourself
- 41:47Speaker 1: flying through the air on the skateboard and then landing
- 41:51Speaker 1: on the ground and winding through people, that does sound
- 41:56Speaker 1: like the perfect idea. Well, how do I make one?
- 42:00Speaker 1: You ask, Well, first you need to make the skateboard itself,
- 42:06Speaker 1: and I've already taught you nature magic. You should just
- 42:10Speaker 1: be able to bend a tree into the right shape. Here,
- 42:15Speaker 1: use this, Martin says, picking up an empty pot with
- 42:20Speaker 1: some dirt in it and placing it in front of you. No, man, this,
- 42:25Speaker 1: Martin says, tossing you a seed. You grab the seed
- 42:30Speaker 1: and put it down inside the potted plant. You pull
- 42:34Speaker 1: your magic wand out of your pocket, and you focus
- 42:38Speaker 1: all of your energy towards the seed, becoming one with
- 42:43Speaker 1: the seed, imagining the seed beginning to grow, imagining it
- 42:49Speaker 1: existing faster than everything else. Soon enough, the seed begins
- 42:55Speaker 1: to glow, and then it grows and grows and grows
- 43:00Speaker 1: at an absolutely rapid pace into a much larger tree.
- 43:07Speaker 1: And as it grows, you give the tree permission to
- 43:11Speaker 1: become more malleable, and you start to form it into
- 43:16Speaker 1: the shape of a skateboard. The tree twists and bends,
- 43:21Speaker 1: winding its branches together and then smoothing them into the
- 43:27Speaker 1: perfect shape. Next, you focus on the wheels themselves, growing
- 43:33Speaker 1: out of the bottom of the board and forming into
- 43:36Speaker 1: perfect wheels with little ball bearings. The end result is
- 43:43Speaker 1: an absolutely beautiful skateboard. You reach out, grab the board
- 43:49Speaker 1: and kind of snap it off the branch.
- 43:53Speaker 2: Perfect.
- 43:54Speaker 1: Now, when you're gonna need to make that thing run
- 43:58Speaker 1: is a little bit wild magic. You see, Magical objects
- 44:05Speaker 1: can't just exist on their own. You have to give
- 44:08Speaker 1: them something to power them. Man, the most common way
- 44:12Speaker 1: to do that is using wild magic. We've captured now,
- 44:17Speaker 1: since you and I captured a whole forest fire the
- 44:21Speaker 1: other day, Well, he should be good. Martin reaches his
- 44:26Speaker 1: hand down into his backpack much further than it should
- 44:30Speaker 1: be able to go. When he pulls it out. He
- 44:35Speaker 1: pulls out a giant ball of ice with a very
- 44:40Speaker 1: bright flame in the center of it, the forest fire
- 44:44Speaker 1: that the two of you captured the other day. Now,
- 44:49Speaker 1: what you're gonna want to do is connect the two
- 44:53Speaker 1: objects in your mind, move some of the power into
- 44:57Speaker 1: the skateboard, and then well, just kind of will it
- 45:03Speaker 1: to do what you wanted to do. As long as
- 45:06Speaker 1: you believe it, it should work most of the time.
- 45:11Speaker 2: Oh okay. He hands you the giant.
- 45:15Speaker 1: Ball of ice that's surrounding a large ball of wild
- 45:21Speaker 1: magic in the form of fire. You hold the ball
- 45:25Speaker 1: in one hand, and you hold the skateboard in the other.
- 45:30Speaker 1: You close your eyes and you allow your consciousness to
- 45:34Speaker 1: expand into both of them, becoming one with the skateboard
- 45:40Speaker 1: and one with the wild magic. As you focus, you
- 45:47Speaker 1: imagine the wild magic leaving the ball of ice and
- 45:52Speaker 1: being absorbed by the skateboard itself, bringing life to it.
- 45:58Speaker 2: Life that.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Allows the skateboard to fly through the air with ease
- 46:05Speaker 1: or rolled across the ground like it's powered by electricity
- 46:11Speaker 1: or something. And as you focus, you feel a little
- 46:16Speaker 1: tingling as the magic works its way out of the
- 46:21Speaker 1: ball of ice through your arm, through your body and
- 46:26Speaker 1: into the other arm that's holding the skateboard. The skateboard
- 46:32Speaker 1: begins to glow, and you continue to focus. You focus
- 46:37Speaker 1: on what it'll feel like to ride it, exactly what
- 46:41Speaker 1: it'll be able to do, moving through the air with ease,
- 46:44Speaker 1: and the ground and well attaching itself to your feet.
- 46:50Speaker 1: And soon the skateboard begins to glow very very brightly,
- 46:58Speaker 1: and the trickle of magic starts to slow down, to
- 47:01Speaker 1: the point where you don't feel like you can force
- 47:05Speaker 1: any more magic into the thing. With that, you open
- 47:10Speaker 1: your eyes and look up at Martin. Did it work?
- 47:15Speaker 1: You ask, Well, there's only one way to find out,
- 47:19Speaker 1: he says, coming over and grabbing the large ball of
- 47:23Speaker 1: ice and placing it back inside his backpack. You place
- 47:28Speaker 1: the skateboard on the ground and you carefully step aboard it. Immediately,
- 47:35Speaker 1: it feels like it snaps to your feet, attaches itself
- 47:40Speaker 1: with some sort of invisible pull. Even stranger, you now
- 47:45Speaker 1: feel like you can command the skateboard in much the
- 47:49Speaker 1: same way you command your limbs to move. You imagine
- 47:53Speaker 1: it moving forward, and it begins to slide around the room,
- 47:59Speaker 1: rolling across the floor with ease. You weave your way
- 48:04Speaker 1: inside and outside of all the huge pillars that are
- 48:08Speaker 1: holding up the roof. Man, do you really start to
- 48:11Speaker 1: get the hang of it quickly? Next, you decide you
- 48:15Speaker 1: better find out if this thing can actually fly. With
- 48:19Speaker 1: a thought, it hops up off the ground and into
- 48:23Speaker 1: the air, and in almost the same way, you can
- 48:27Speaker 1: weave up and down side to side, and even do
- 48:32Speaker 1: some loop to loops as if there's invisible skateboard ramps
- 48:37Speaker 1: in the air itself. Well, kid, I'd say it works
- 48:43Speaker 1: and have fun. You spend most of the rest of
- 48:47Speaker 1: the day flying around on your new magic skateboard. You
- 48:52Speaker 1: find that when you have a skateboard that can easily
- 48:55Speaker 1: transition between the ground and the air, everything becomes a
- 49:00Speaker 1: skateboard park. You fly up over the castle, landing and
- 49:07Speaker 1: rolling down the side of the roof, only to jump
- 49:11Speaker 1: back off and soar through the air until you land
- 49:15Speaker 1: on the side of a tree and roll down it.
- 49:18Speaker 1: It opens up a whole new world of possibilities, and
- 49:24Speaker 1: you play around with every single one of those possibilities
- 49:29Speaker 1: until you get rather tired. Luckily, for you, in a
- 49:34Speaker 1: world like this, home is wherever you are. You reach
- 49:39Speaker 1: into your pocket and pull out a tiny little backpack
- 49:43Speaker 1: You put your hand on either side of it, and,
- 49:47Speaker 1: just like you'd zoom in on a tablet or touch screen,
- 49:52Speaker 1: you pull your arms apart, causing the backpack to expand
- 49:57Speaker 1: into a rather large back You find it's easier to
- 50:02Speaker 1: get in and out when it's rather large. You one
- 50:06Speaker 1: zip the top of the backpack and, still aboard your skateboard,
- 50:11Speaker 1: you float up into the air and lower yourself gently
- 50:15Speaker 1: down into the backpack, entering into the little pocket dimension
- 50:20Speaker 1: that you now call home. The backpack zips up above
- 50:25Speaker 1: you and presumably disappears from existence once again. You land
- 50:31Speaker 1: on the floor of your bedroom and you step off
- 50:36Speaker 1: of the skateboard. You pick it up and place it
- 50:40Speaker 1: against the wall. Before heading over to the bed. You
- 50:44Speaker 1: climb underneath the covers. You pull them up to your chin,
- 50:50Speaker 1: and you allow your head to rest on the very
- 50:53Speaker 1: comfy pillow. A pillows so comfy you suspect it me
- 51:00Speaker 1: be magical. You focus on your breath, and with each
- 51:07Speaker 1: breath you get sleepier and sleepier. All of the muscles
- 51:15Speaker 1: in your body begin to relax, allowing you to sink
- 51:20Speaker 1: down deeper and deeper into the mattress, and before long,
- 51:27Speaker 1: you're so comfy and so tired that nothing seems better
- 51:33Speaker 1: than just allowing yourself to drift off to a world
- 51:38Speaker 1: of dreams and new adventures to come. Good Night everyone,
- 52:30Speaker 1: m U
