- 0:00Speaker 1: It is good to be back. I am in person.
- 0:03Speaker 2: I I'm so happy to see you at the flesh this.
- 0:10Speaker 1: I got back yesterday. I was forty hours of travel
- 0:13Speaker 1: from Providence, Rhode Island, door to door and I feel
- 0:19Speaker 1: like a dried up piece of crap. And I so
- 0:24Speaker 1: to keep myself awake, like you know, you want to
- 0:27Speaker 1: get out of the apartment, get some sunshine. Yeah, and
- 0:30Speaker 1: I booked a haircut, but I had to go to
- 0:33Speaker 1: a new guy.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Ooh, same same location.
- 0:36Speaker 1: You got, same brand, new guy, same franchise. Yeah.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Nice.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I went to Just Cuts. Yeah, and it was the Apprentice.
- 0:49Speaker 1: As you can tell, I said, make me look like
- 0:53Speaker 1: a tennis ball for the It's so short. I hate it.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I think it looks good. What do you think It's
- 0:59Speaker 2: too short on the side or too short on the top.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I think he went short on the sides and weird
- 1:04Speaker 1: little like party hat on top.
- 1:09Speaker 2: It is like a little top hat.
- 1:12Speaker 1: I want to look like a triumph. But the Melbourne
- 1:17Speaker 1: Comedy Festivals on it. It is show.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Yeah, come and see my show. I have been asking
- 1:22Speaker 2: the crowd do you listen? And a nice podcast? Yeah?
- 1:27Speaker 3: Really yeah?
- 1:28Speaker 2: A couple of people of that just a couple of people.
- 1:32Speaker 2: And then last night, which was probably my worst show
- 1:34Speaker 2: of the run so far, and there was a guy
- 1:36Speaker 2: and the orders just went no.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I got to laugh, though, well only.
- 1:42Speaker 2: When I addressed it. I was like, whoa, whoa who
- 1:47Speaker 2: audibly said no, And then he kind of I asked
- 1:49Speaker 2: a couple of questions and he also said no. After that,
- 1:52Speaker 2: I was like, he's like the weird chorus leader in
- 1:55Speaker 2: my shirt. That was a weird guy, Michael.
- 1:57Speaker 1: His name was oh, Michael's dicks. But this new guy,
- 2:02Speaker 1: new barber, doesn't know who I am, you know, like,
- 2:05Speaker 1: and so you got to go through the small talk
- 2:08Speaker 1: and uh, comedy comes up because he goes, you know, so,
- 2:11Speaker 1: what have you been up to? He said, oh, I
- 2:12Speaker 1: saw a comedy show for the festival last night. I'll
- 2:15Speaker 1: tell you who it was after because because he told
- 2:18Speaker 1: me who was. And then he goes, I've decided stand
- 2:20Speaker 1: up comedy is not for me. And he doesn't know
- 2:23Speaker 1: who I am. He doesn't know he's talking to a comedge. Yeah,
- 2:26Speaker 1: so I go I started like baiting him. I go like, uh,
- 2:33Speaker 1: so would you say like stand up comedy is like
- 2:35Speaker 1: the worst of all these entertainment art forms and he
- 2:38Speaker 1: was like, yeah, oh yeah. He was like, it's embarrassing,
- 2:41Speaker 1: it's cringe. And I go, would you put comedians below
- 2:44Speaker 1: like magicians and mimes? And he's like kind of laughing,
- 2:47Speaker 1: but he's like absolutely, it's like it's worse. And then
- 2:51Speaker 1: finally the small ti cauts around us, So what do
- 2:53Speaker 1: you do? And I go, oh, I'm a stand up
- 2:55Speaker 1: comedy and it was tense. Yeah, I know exactly, and
- 3:02Speaker 1: then he must have butchered me because yeah, the ruse,
- 3:07Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Shot what.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Hard court has ed?
- 3:19Speaker 2: And it was blended.
- 3:22Speaker 1: But now is the time to say, is on Clay?
- 3:31Speaker 2: Tell me why?
- 3:32Speaker 1: Ego sewant exciting and to shot?
- 3:36Speaker 2: Tell me why.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Alcarez hitting multiple drops?
- 3:40Speaker 2: Tell me why?
- 3:42Speaker 1: Because now is the time to say is on Clay.
- 3:55Speaker 1: We are into the Clay Court swings.
- 3:58Speaker 2: This is exciting. Officially dirt to get dirty dirty.
- 4:02Speaker 1: It is officially dirt rat season. I think Charleston is
- 4:08Speaker 1: on at the moment, which is a WTA five hundred.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Jess Pagoula is the number one seed. Okay for that one.
- 4:15Speaker 1: I don't know if you've watched Charleston. It's on Gray Clay.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Gray Clay. No, I have not seen that.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I like it. It's yeah, you can see the ball
- 4:22Speaker 1: way better than on the red clay. And they should
- 4:25Speaker 1: keep gray clay for all the tournaments.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Where do they get this gray clay? Like, what kind
- 4:33Speaker 2: of clay is geologist? That's what my mind went. And
- 4:39Speaker 2: I'm like, so, which rock does that come from?
- 4:42Speaker 1: Well, because they've done I think they just diet because
- 4:44Speaker 1: they've done the blue clay tournaments before, but for most
- 4:48Speaker 1: of the season it's on the classic red. But first, yes,
- 4:55Speaker 1: let's recap the end of the hardcourt swing. Sunshine Double
- 5:02Speaker 1: Miami is done.
- 5:03Speaker 2: So you at the top, Yeah, we're like one of
- 5:07Speaker 2: them is going to do the Sunshine Double. I just
- 5:09Speaker 2: don't know who. I believe that is what you said.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Yeah, and then I switched it to saying both will
- 5:16Speaker 1: do the Sunshine Double?
- 5:17Speaker 3: Did you?
- 5:18Speaker 1: Yeah? I think last week's did you excellent just because
- 5:22Speaker 1: Algras went out, Yeah, fair ground. Yeah, and yeah, I mean,
- 5:27Speaker 1: let's do it here on this pod because I noticed
- 5:28Speaker 1: the other tennis pods aren't doing it. They're not making
- 5:31Speaker 1: a big enough deal that a redhead won the Sunshine Double.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Yes, that is so true, against.
- 5:37Speaker 1: All odds, against all odds.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Yeah, Environmental conditions not favoring yea.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Genetic weakness, lack of melanin, lack of melanin. But he
- 5:49Speaker 1: did it without dropping a set. Yanick Center wins the
- 5:53Speaker 1: Sunshine Double. That's four weeks of matches without dropping a
- 5:57Speaker 1: single set.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Amazing.
- 5:58Speaker 1: He's a machine. Yeah. Yeah, And that's three Masters one
- 6:02Speaker 1: thousand events in a row. Because he won Paris end
- 6:05Speaker 1: of last year where he didn't drop a set.
- 6:07Speaker 2: And he's got some kind of is he on a
- 6:08Speaker 2: record now.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Yeah, he's the first one to ever do it without
- 6:11Speaker 1: dropping a set. Yeah, that's crazy, which is nuts. And
- 6:15Speaker 1: he played Yeri Lehechka and yeah, and it wasn't wasn't
- 6:19Speaker 1: really pushed, even though year he had a break early,
- 6:22Speaker 1: but I think Sinner just broke back immediately. He now
- 6:27Speaker 1: to me like it's going to be him and Alcoraz
- 6:29Speaker 1: just fighting for the number one for the rest of
- 6:31Speaker 1: the year because their points are getting pretty close. Cinner
- 6:35Speaker 1: now to me, goes into the clay court season as
- 6:39Speaker 1: probably the favorite. Yeah, because I think he'll get the
- 6:45Speaker 1: number one seat at the French.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Okay, and do you think he's gonna win, no, or
- 6:51Speaker 2: just get far enough to get that number one.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Yeah, well, because Monte Carlo is coming up. Yeah, I
- 6:56Speaker 1: think that starts next week. And yeah, what Ace is
- 7:01Speaker 1: looking around suspiciously?
- 7:03Speaker 2: Did you forget to put a camera on?
- 7:05Speaker 1: Are we good?
- 7:06Speaker 2: Okay?
- 7:07Speaker 1: Get paranoid? Whatever you mean?
- 7:09Speaker 2: He's like, oh the record button?
- 7:12Speaker 1: Yeah, Centner. It seems to me now that it was
- 7:15Speaker 1: kind of an anomaly him. I mean he lost to
- 7:19Speaker 1: Jokovic in the semifinals of the as Open, and then that,
- 7:24Speaker 1: especially the loss to uh Men Sick in Doha, which
- 7:29Speaker 1: I believe was a semifinal as well. They seem like
- 7:32Speaker 1: kind of anomalies on this season that he's having because
- 7:35Speaker 1: he's just tearing through everyone and absolutely dominant. But he
- 7:37Speaker 1: hasn't been playing Alkhoriz.
- 7:39Speaker 2: True, they haven't had a match hup.
- 7:43Speaker 1: No, No, not this yere whoa Yeah.
- 7:47Speaker 2: How weird is that? Because that's all we talk about,
- 7:50Speaker 2: I know. And then they haven't played together. No, hopefully
- 7:54Speaker 2: in the final.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Well of the French Yeah, give us a rematch of
- 7:57Speaker 1: the French Final last year, one of the best.
- 7:59Speaker 2: That would be awesome. But I I have maybe djokovitual
- 8:02Speaker 2: will get fun. You hate this, I say, yeah, I
- 8:07Speaker 2: feel like it.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Yeah, he's not playing a lot of the lead up tournaments.
- 8:11Speaker 1: He's pulled out of Monte Carlo. But yeah, I just
- 8:14Speaker 1: don't think he's going to have the time on the court. Yeah,
- 8:17Speaker 1: and he's getting up there.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:19Speaker 1: I mean he's good on every surface, but I wouldn't
- 8:21Speaker 1: say clay is his strength.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Who else is really good on clay?
- 8:25Speaker 1: Uh, Well, a lot of the European dirt rats. I
- 8:28Speaker 1: think dark horse is going to be Dar Dairy, who
- 8:33Speaker 1: had famous you might remember, but he's a guy that's like,
- 8:40Speaker 1: plays real clean on clay and you know, grew up
- 8:42Speaker 1: on the surface. So I think just to recap Miami
- 8:47Speaker 1: a little bit more. Uh. The Arthur Fees and Tommy
- 8:51Speaker 1: Paul quarterfinal was one of the best matches of the
- 8:54Speaker 1: season and every set was a tie break. Tommy Paul
- 8:57Speaker 1: had four match points in the third set tie break
- 9:00Speaker 1: and Arthur Fees came back to.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Yeah that was incredible.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, and him and Tommy Paul like two of
- 9:06Speaker 1: the hottest.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Guys you're ever gonna say, Yeah, it's hunk v hunk.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Tommy, he'll figure out up.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Yeah. True.
- 9:16Speaker 1: But then Fees got killed by the Hetchka in the
- 9:18Speaker 1: next round. Who I mean, like we talked about before
- 9:22Speaker 1: it was kind of someone would win a huge match
- 9:24Speaker 1: and then go out in the next round.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Put all their effort into that match, and then be tired.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Mental or physical exhaustion are both. Zverav played Center in
- 9:34Speaker 1: the semi of Miami, and he said in an interview,
- 9:37Speaker 1: the last time I beat Sinner, he was fourteen years old. Oh,
- 9:41Speaker 1: like Center was fourteen years old.
- 9:42Speaker 2: He's holding onto that. You can't shake that.
- 9:45Speaker 1: And he lost in two sets to Center in the
- 9:50Speaker 1: semi final. The second set tie break was good. I
- 9:52Speaker 1: think it all came down to a shot where Zverev
- 9:55Speaker 1: lost the ball in the lights and then yeah, kind
- 9:59Speaker 1: of muffed it in to the net. And had he
- 10:01Speaker 1: not done that, he could have pushed a third set.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Damn.
- 10:04Speaker 1: I know. And the women and the women's Sablenka, who
- 10:08Speaker 1: I think was my prediction from the start.
- 10:10Speaker 2: From the start, I can confirm you predicted it.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Yes, Sablenka played Cocoa Goff en route to the finals.
- 10:19Speaker 1: She played her biggest rival these days, Rebacina. Yeah, and
- 10:22Speaker 1: kind of wasn't troubled this time by Rebeccaa. Just you know,
- 10:26Speaker 1: I think we're back in a obviously exhausted kind of
- 10:29Speaker 1: by that point in the tournament, and Sablenka played great
- 10:32Speaker 1: in that semi and great in the final, even though
- 10:35Speaker 1: Golf took a set, she did come back. Yeah, that
- 10:38Speaker 1: second set was good.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it was good. Yeah, but then she looked like
- 10:41Speaker 2: she had something. And then Sablenka has just a different
- 10:43Speaker 2: gear that she can go to.
- 10:45Speaker 1: She's scary out there.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Yeah, she just like that. No one can match.
- 10:49Speaker 4: No.
- 10:50Speaker 1: I mean, like we said, she's had a finals problem
- 10:53Speaker 1: in the past, most recently this year's Australian Open, but
- 10:57Speaker 1: now she's beat Rebeccena in a final and Golf in
- 11:00Speaker 1: the final, and I think she is confident French Open
- 11:04Speaker 1: is hers even though there's ego.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Yeah, but EGA's gone through some stuff.
- 11:09Speaker 1: She didn't have a coach as well.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. Maybe that's a good thing.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Maybe we should coach hey IgA.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Remember that crazy rappol we had during the interview.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Where all you did was hit buttons and couldn't make
- 11:28Speaker 1: eye contact.
- 11:35Speaker 2: I feel like I could be your coach.
- 11:37Speaker 1: So yeah, Miami was a great tournament. And to me,
- 11:40Speaker 1: it always kind of sits weird at this point of
- 11:44Speaker 1: the season because it's more of hard court and then
- 11:47Speaker 1: now they're just straight into the clay and then obviously
- 11:51Speaker 1: the grass court season and then they're back on hard
- 11:53Speaker 1: court leading up to the US. So it is this
- 11:56Speaker 1: thing where like Alcahaz, I think wasn't totally focused. He
- 12:00Speaker 1: was playing golf and going out to Miami nightclubs every night.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Was it the heat game?
- 12:05Speaker 1: Yeah, but I think now he really wants the calendar
- 12:09Speaker 1: Slam and they leading into the French it's gonna be awesome.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Yeah, he'll focus. Does anyone really like skip the clay? Yeah?
- 12:18Speaker 1: Medvedev hates the.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Clay, Like I'm not doing clay. I love that.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I he'll play just for entrance fees, I think stuff.
- 12:27Speaker 1: But he's thrown little hissy fits before. Well smashes, whack.
- 12:30Speaker 2: It, wack it, wack it, smashes, wack it America.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I hate clay. I'll smash my wack it.
- 12:48Speaker 2: So that's going to be a sound bite.
- 12:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Yeah, So he notoriously hates the clay. I think a
- 12:57Speaker 1: lot of players do. And I think what you'll see,
- 12:59Speaker 1: like what happens every year is these Europeans that grew
- 13:04Speaker 1: up playing on the surface, You'll be like, who is
- 13:06Speaker 1: this person? You know? But they might have a deep run.
- 13:09Speaker 1: I think Atchivary is great on the clay, so he might,
- 13:12Speaker 1: you know, show up in a lot of the tournaments.
- 13:14Speaker 2: The South Americans they're they're good on clay, right.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, So it's gonna be interesting predictions for the French.
- 13:21Speaker 1: I've been saying IgA all year, and.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Look, I'm gonna you're gonna stick with.
- 13:26Speaker 1: I think just because if she does now when, it'll
- 13:28Speaker 1: look cooler than if sabill Anca does.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:31Speaker 1: True, I'll look more knowledgeable and stuff because she is
- 13:34Speaker 1: awesome on the clay and has been so dominant in
- 13:37Speaker 1: the past. I'm looking forward to Coco now showing some
- 13:41Speaker 1: form in Miami, getting.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Way more confident. Yeah that's a hometown, right, yeah.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Yeah. She was like umming and awing about playing because
- 13:49Speaker 1: she had those elbow issues during Indian wells. But then
- 13:52Speaker 1: she was like, it's a twenty minute drive from my place.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, I may as well.
- 13:59Speaker 4: I know.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Yeah, fair enough gets to the.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Tennis commentators are so desperate for content that everyone's making
- 14:06Speaker 1: a big deal that she wore a hat for this tournament. Really,
- 14:09Speaker 1: she's always wearing a head band. And then some tennis
- 14:12Speaker 1: journalists was like, oh, you're playing well in a hat
- 14:15Speaker 1: and then it's like there's this big blow up, like, oh,
- 14:18Speaker 1: a man can't tell a woman about her wardrobe or something.
- 14:21Speaker 1: What Coco didn't care? Yeah, but yeah, I mean so
- 14:26Speaker 1: if we're talking hats, this is a hat, watch we're
- 14:30Speaker 1: doing it as well.
- 14:32Speaker 2: I didn't. I did notice she was wearing the hat,
- 14:35Speaker 2: and I thought the hat did look a little strange.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Because you used to sing her in a head band.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Maybe that's why. But it's hot there. I like that
- 14:44Speaker 2: she's caring for her skim. Okay, that's nice.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Yeah, well we'll see how Demonar does because he's now
- 14:51Speaker 1: rocking the head band instead of the hat.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Well, yeah, that's true. Do you think he's gonna continue
- 14:56Speaker 2: with the headband? It wasn't very lucky for him.
- 14:59Speaker 1: I don't know because I looked it up. He doesn't
- 15:01Speaker 1: have the best results on clay. He's basically half Spanish,
- 15:05Speaker 1: so who knows. It's up to him and the sponsors
- 15:10Speaker 1: and his whenever they get.
- 15:12Speaker 2: To your wife.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Yeah, so the clay court. So there's two fifties happening.
- 15:21Speaker 1: There's five hundred's the first A thousand will be Monte
- 15:25Speaker 1: Carlo for the very exciting no Novak No Fritz no
- 15:31Speaker 1: draper oh corda QRDA. Yeah, so, I mean it's still
- 15:37Speaker 1: an awesome tournament. I don't know if you've it's the
- 15:40Speaker 1: one that's like sitting on the Mediterranean.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Yeah, crazy, it looks awesome. Yeah, the French Riviera. I've
- 15:47Speaker 2: been there, have you? Yeah, I've actually been in Monte Carlo.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Did you wear like a white linen suit?
- 15:52Speaker 2: No, it's I was doing this travel show. Weird job,
- 15:57Speaker 2: I know, it was a crazy job. Dream and now
- 16:00Speaker 2: our boat doctor in Porto Fino and then we where
- 16:07Speaker 2: do we go? We went. If you're going to go,
- 16:09Speaker 2: don't stay in Monte Carlo. Montecalo is a little bit trashy,
- 16:12Speaker 2: is it. Yeah, it feels a little bit like, I
- 16:16Speaker 2: don't know, just there's sports bars and yeah I didn't
- 16:24Speaker 2: I didn't love it. But you can catch a train.
- 16:27Speaker 2: They're like one stop down to this place called Menton
- 16:30Speaker 2: and that's beautiful. That's like the last Italian city before
- 16:35Speaker 2: you you get into Monte Carlo. That it was half
- 16:40Speaker 2: French half Italian this city, so there were a lot
- 16:43Speaker 2: of Italians of it also a lot of French people.
- 16:45Speaker 2: It was beautiful.
- 16:46Speaker 1: I mean, what a life you're living where you're like Monte.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Carlo, Monte Carlo like it. Yeah, well I did go
- 16:54Speaker 2: to the sports I looked at my phone and I
- 16:56Speaker 2: was like, what do I do in Monte Carlo? And
- 16:59Speaker 2: I do go to a sports bar and I took
- 17:00Speaker 2: a photo beyond Borg on the wall. I was like, well,
- 17:05Speaker 2: there's my tennis alignment. That's all I got for you.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I thought you were going to say beyond Borg was
- 17:11Speaker 1: at the.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Point, and no, it's his voto on the wall.
- 17:17Speaker 1: It's still a great tournament, and I think, like what
- 17:19Speaker 1: we're going to see throughout the clay court swing is
- 17:23Speaker 1: Alcorizm and Center battling for the number one spot. I hope, yeah,
- 17:27Speaker 1: And I think any tournament they enter, like one of
- 17:29Speaker 1: them might skip Madrid and I think they'll both play Rome.
- 17:33Speaker 1: But it's just going to be whoever's winning it is
- 17:36Speaker 1: just going to claim the number one spot. Yeah, back
- 17:38Speaker 1: and forth. But the gap between them and whoever the
- 17:41Speaker 1: number three is probably Veraev is just gonna widen. And
- 17:45Speaker 1: Djokovic now has slipped to four and that's only going
- 17:48Speaker 1: to get worse if he's not playing any of the
- 17:49Speaker 1: other tournaments. So yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I
- 17:54Speaker 1: would love to go to Monte Carlo. Please Tennis Australia, even.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Though yeah, day out of the town, I'll catch the
- 18:01Speaker 2: train there. I'm just more my yacht.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I really only know it from this tournament. And
- 18:09Speaker 1: like every spy movie, they.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Oh yeah it is. It is beautiful, but it is
- 18:15Speaker 2: like fast cars casino. Yeah, it's like hot guys taking
- 18:20Speaker 2: photos and yeah, so it's a lot of trash.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Sounds awesome, hot guys taking photos. In Ozzie news, Alexi
- 18:37Speaker 1: Poprin has won his first round match at the ATP Houston,
- 18:42Speaker 1: beating American Patrick Kipson. So, Alexi's had kind of rough season,
- 18:46Speaker 1: but maybe on clay he'll show some previous form and yeah,
- 18:51Speaker 1: make his way through over there.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Uh.
- 18:53Speaker 1: And then our new favorite Gibson Gibb.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Do you think we're calling a Gibbo.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Yeah, once we talked to her, we will. Let's see
- 19:02Speaker 1: if she likes that nickname.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Yeah, if she's got any others, I'd be surprised if.
- 19:06Speaker 1: She didn't have a better nickname.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Well, no, if Gibbo wasn't her nickname, well she is
- 19:11Speaker 2: Ozzie right, yeah, gibbye, hey, Gibbe, Gibsie.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Oh Gibsie, she might just come back.
- 19:17Speaker 2: No, everyone just calls me Talia Gibson. No, no, no,
- 19:23Speaker 2: but oh yeah, all right, we'll do that for her.
- 19:26Speaker 3: We will.
- 19:27Speaker 1: She has finally got our picture up on the WT website.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Had a great picture. It's a great in the Green
- 19:33Speaker 2: and Gold.
- 19:34Speaker 1: And she's up to fifty six in the world.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Incredible. She had a great Sunshine double she did.
- 19:42Speaker 1: She was playing awesome. Is she playing in the Billy
- 19:44Speaker 1: Jane Cup? Do we know?
- 19:46Speaker 2: Yes?
- 19:46Speaker 1: She is? And the Billy Jean King Cup kicks off
- 19:50Speaker 1: in Melbourne next week. Lizzie and I will be in attendance.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good.
- 19:54Speaker 1: It'd be good to just watch some liftimes.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Yeah, back at the home John Kine.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Yeah, they're playing great Britain. Yeah, it's going to be
- 20:02Speaker 1: good to see who qualifies for the later rounds of
- 20:06Speaker 1: the Billy Jean king A Cup. This story I love.
- 20:12Speaker 1: This is back to Miami, fully grown ball kids.
- 20:18Speaker 2: How good is that?
- 20:19Speaker 1: So it's like that Seinfeld episode wherever.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a ball man, yeah dominates.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Yeah, and this guy like pensioners working as ball kids. Uh.
- 20:32Speaker 1: And there's one dude in particular who they interviewed and
- 20:36Speaker 1: how old was.
- 20:37Speaker 2: He doesn't say he's a bull daddy.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Ball daddy. That sounds like something else entirely. That's my
- 20:45Speaker 1: nickname on grinder. But he looks good.
- 20:50Speaker 2: This guy's ray Waterhouse.
- 20:52Speaker 1: He's sixty five, sixty five years old.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Yeah, he's just keeping finn. I mean it would be
- 20:57Speaker 2: kind of hard. I would struggle. I don't really have
- 20:59Speaker 2: the name to get up and down, you know, like
- 21:01Speaker 2: that kneeling on the ground.
- 21:03Speaker 1: It's hard work. Oh but uh, you know, if there's
- 21:06Speaker 1: any potential ball daddy's out there, hit us up at
- 21:08Speaker 1: pod Labor at tennis dot com dot a and well,
- 21:13Speaker 1: actually this takes us back to the clay, Lizzy. I'd
- 21:16Speaker 1: love to hear your thoughts on this. Okay, Madrid known
- 21:20Speaker 1: for using models, oh as ball kids, ballpeople.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Ball models, ball models. Yeah, that's kind of funny. So
- 21:31Speaker 2: what kind of like, well, Madrid is very is it
- 21:34Speaker 2: a fashion place?
- 21:35Speaker 1: I guess? But this all happened years I think two
- 21:39Speaker 1: thousand and six, when a Romanian billionaire decided that he
- 21:46Speaker 1: wanted all the ball people to be models.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Ion.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Yeah, What'sac Tyriac? Yeah, so Tyriac, former tennis player need
- 21:57Speaker 1: one of the most terrifying men. He yeah, was like,
- 22:00Speaker 1: I want all models to be the ball people at
- 22:02Speaker 1: the Madrid tournament. Yeah, and the like models don't have
- 22:08Speaker 1: the agility and dexterity of kids running the energy energy,
- 22:14Speaker 1: and they were like on all the matches and they're
- 22:17Speaker 1: falling over themselves and they Hugo Boss was a sponsor,
- 22:21Speaker 1: but not only would they have the models wearing Hugo
- 22:23Speaker 1: Boss t shirts, but he would write Hugo Boss across
- 22:27Speaker 1: their chests and their low cut tops. It was yeah,
- 22:34Speaker 1: and so now and then they go, okay, well, well
- 22:36Speaker 1: the women's will have some male models, right, that was concession. Okay,
- 22:41Speaker 1: but like male models who cares? Right?
- 22:44Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 22:45Speaker 1: And so now they've kept an aspect of models at
- 22:51Speaker 1: the Madrid tournament. But it's only men's center court matches
- 22:56Speaker 1: and there's yeah, female models as ballpeople.
- 23:00Speaker 2: That is wild. Yeah, I mean I understand it must
- 23:04Speaker 2: look good, sure, yeah.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Yeah, but the players, I think agacy was like.
- 23:08Speaker 2: It is it distracted?
- 23:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm trying to hit a forehand and there's.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Some show hanging.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Out swinging her norcs around. That's so it's interesting in
- 23:22Speaker 1: this day and age. Yeah, they somehow and it's Tyarac
- 23:27Speaker 1: isn't running the tournament anymore. It's I think some huge
- 23:30Speaker 1: sports agency. But they're like, we'll keep this one aspect
- 23:34Speaker 1: on center court for the men's Yeah, oh my god.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Yeah what. Don't give it to kids who aspiring tennis
- 23:42Speaker 1: players and want to be around their heroes. Give it
- 23:45Speaker 1: to privileged influencers. Yeah. Yeah, they need more opportunities. Yeah,
- 23:54Speaker 1: they're the only other type of people that would be like, oh,
- 23:56Speaker 1: Monte Carlo is trash.
- 24:02Speaker 2: I can't wait till you go there.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Okay, speaking of Clay Quarders, Roff and the doll, Oh
- 24:15Speaker 1: isn't that cool? Got an honorary doctorate. An honorary doctorate,
- 24:19Speaker 1: So we'll show the picture he what would you say,
- 24:23Speaker 1: Old Raffa looks like there.
- 24:25Speaker 2: He looks straight out of the Vatican.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Yeah do you think, yeah, like, but he's a lime
- 24:30Speaker 1: green pope.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a cool pope. This is like an Easter pope.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Our producer said, he dressed up as a lamp lamp.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it is looking lamb.
- 24:39Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 24:40Speaker 2: Yeah, the cape, I love the color. Yeah, the hat
- 24:43Speaker 2: is insane.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Do you think, Yeah, some black smoke that came out
- 24:48Speaker 1: of your chimney and then adult.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Giving everyone his blessing. It's insane. Yeah, but he got
- 24:55Speaker 2: a what an honorary doctorate in intent?
- 25:00Speaker 1: Why not? So he's doctor Nadal now doctor Nadal.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Yeah, he's excellence in sport at the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Uh huh.
- 25:10Speaker 2: And it was presented to him by models.
- 25:13Speaker 1: There you go. Yeah, is it douchey if you get
- 25:16Speaker 1: an honorary doctorate to make people call you doctor? Do
- 25:19Speaker 1: you think?
- 25:20Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 25:21Speaker 2: Maybe a little bit. I mean a lot of people
- 25:23Speaker 2: get honorary you saying Bolt has an honorary doctor, doctor Bolt,
- 25:26Speaker 2: doctor Bolt, I mean Ali has one?
- 25:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean you're not gonna if he wants.
- 25:32Speaker 2: You to call him doctor doctor Ali. Yeah, I'll call him.
- 25:37Speaker 1: He insists, well.
- 25:39Speaker 2: He at home doctor dad.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I call doctor Dad. Uh. He one of when
- 25:46Speaker 1: one of my friends growing up, let's say, mister Goldstein,
- 25:49Speaker 1: he would say, I didn't go to five years of medical.
- 25:52Speaker 2: School to be exactly. Okay, doctor gold So did your
- 25:57Speaker 2: friends really call your dad Dr Goldstein?
- 25:59Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 26:00Speaker 2: Wow, I know that's insane. I think my friends called
- 26:04Speaker 2: my dad Chin no respect, mocking him.
- 26:11Speaker 1: His name is not even Chin. They were just racist.
- 26:25Speaker 1: This is the thing I know we're in the tennis
- 26:28Speaker 1: content game, and you know, we're looking for angles, and
- 26:31Speaker 1: we've got players in for interviews and we want to
- 26:34Speaker 1: make it fun. But this desperation now to get clips
- 26:39Speaker 1: from tennis players, and you know they have him do
- 26:42Speaker 1: but people like paparazzi type things will yell questions at
- 26:46Speaker 1: tennis players to try and get some kind of response.
- 26:50Speaker 1: And there's a guy at the Miami Open and I
- 26:52Speaker 1: saw him do this. It hits a pass as well,
- 26:54Speaker 1: where he's just yelling, what's your favorite pizza? Yeah? Over,
- 26:58Speaker 1: and it hits a pass ignores him. Yeah, he did
- 27:00Speaker 1: it to one of our favorite players, Carolina Mukava. Yeah,
- 27:03Speaker 1: the mooch, And I just hate that he's annoying the mooch.
- 27:07Speaker 3: What is your favorite kind of pizza? What's your favorite
- 27:13Speaker 3: kind of pizza? What's your favorite pizza?
- 27:19Speaker 2: Apparently that's his stick that he just asks celebrities, what's
- 27:22Speaker 2: your favorite pizza? What a stick to aim higher?
- 27:27Speaker 1: Yeah, imagine he's like, you know, gets home and his wife's.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Like, how'd you go, honey, did you have.
- 27:33Speaker 1: A hard day to day? He's like, yeah, Malcolm in
- 27:36Speaker 1: the middle, wouldn't tell me if you like Pepperoni or
- 27:39Speaker 1: yeah or superam.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Oh god.
- 27:49Speaker 1: And other news.
- 27:52Speaker 2: Nick Kurios curious he's going down the brand ambassador route. Yeah,
- 27:56Speaker 2: which I'm.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Awful, Nick Curios, friend of the show. Yeah, we broke
- 28:02Speaker 1: our ping pong pedal when I beat him famously, he's,
- 28:10Speaker 1: you know, taking any kind of sponsorship at the moment,
- 28:13Speaker 1: why not? Why not get that bag?
- 28:16Speaker 2: Tennis isn't really happening, so you got to you gotta
- 28:18Speaker 2: take the sponsor.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Yeah, but I think it reaches maybe a critical mass
- 28:23Speaker 1: where people start giving you ship, depending on.
- 28:25Speaker 2: When it's outside the tennis world. It looks a little
- 28:28Speaker 2: bit strange, it does well.
- 28:30Speaker 3: I was looking for an outdoor kitchen to suit mark
- 28:31Speaker 3: cooking style and needs, which is very elegant. Obviously Afy
- 28:35Speaker 3: Tennis needs a new clay.
- 28:36Speaker 1: I mean, I'd say yes to anything at this point,
- 28:42Speaker 1: but he is now the face of euro Alfresco kitchens.
- 28:48Speaker 1: I help you watch the kitchen design to match my naids.
- 28:51Speaker 3: From there, they took care of complaint and to end service.
- 28:53Speaker 2: I mean, he's a European. Yeah, loves a barbecue. True,
- 28:58Speaker 2: maybe he just wanted a new barbeque you. Yeah, and
- 29:00Speaker 2: it looks pretty nice.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Do you think he's doing his own barbecuing.
- 29:03Speaker 2: I reckony barbecues. Okay, I reckon that's in him.
- 29:06Speaker 1: All right, well, yeah he's his His quote for the
- 29:10Speaker 1: euro al Fresco Kitchen is it's the Grand Slam of
- 29:13Speaker 1: outdoor entertainment.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Beautiful. Yeah, someone wrote that for him for sure. That
- 29:18Speaker 2: is a marketing manager. Yeah, okay, Nick, this is what
- 29:20Speaker 2: we want you to say.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Yeah, it makes no sense at all. All those Hooters
- 29:31Speaker 1: waitresses actually loved me, loved me, loved me, Lizzie. We
- 29:37Speaker 1: have a new segment here on the show.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Oh is it? Is it anything like Mike's anagrams?
- 29:43Speaker 1: It's not as good. Okay, you know, but this is
- 29:47Speaker 1: exciting because as employees of The Australian open that, they
- 29:51Speaker 1: have opened up their vaults.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Oh my gosh to us.
- 29:54Speaker 1: The history of the Australian.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Must love us, trust us so much, I know.
- 29:58Speaker 1: And so we're going to call this segment double Vaults.
- 30:02Speaker 2: Oh, like, this is brilliant. Where do you come up
- 30:07Speaker 2: with this stuff?
- 30:08Speaker 1: I'm that good. So I've been drawling through the archives. Wow,
- 30:14Speaker 1: and I found a clip of John McEnroe from over
- 30:18Speaker 1: thirty years ago. Oh gosh, I believe in a postmatch
- 30:21Speaker 1: interview a presser, and uh, let's have a look. Tell
- 30:25Speaker 1: me what you think.
- 30:26Speaker 4: Tennis is very, very very difficult. It's incredible sport, it
- 30:30Speaker 4: really is. You know, in twenty years, I hope that
- 30:31Speaker 4: the best athletes come into it so they can really
- 30:33Speaker 4: see just incredible tennis. They're not gonna believe what they're
- 30:36Speaker 4: gonna see in twenty years. If they really get the
- 30:38Speaker 4: best people, you know, it's gonna be an amazing thing.
- 30:41Speaker 4: They're gonna have to change the rules too, but well,
- 30:45Speaker 4: for example, they're gonna have to move the service line
- 30:47Speaker 4: closer than net or something like that, or make the
- 30:49Speaker 4: net bigger, because else you can have sixteen Beckers hitting
- 30:53Speaker 4: aces at Wimbledon, and I don't think people want to
- 30:55Speaker 4: see that in the round of sixteen of wimbled.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Interesting John McEnroe kind of addicting the future there, Yeah,
- 31:02Speaker 1: I mean so if that was around eighty five, then
- 31:05Speaker 1: twenty years later, obviously it was fed an adult before
- 31:09Speaker 1: Djokovic kind of turn it into the Big three, Murray
- 31:12Speaker 1: Whenever hovering around, and then now we're seeing another two
- 31:15Speaker 1: guys just dominating and you know, great for them, but him,
- 31:19Speaker 1: you know, saying that big serving isn't fun to watch.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Yeah, still holds true for sure. Yeah, wow, how interesting.
- 31:27Speaker 2: I feel like I was watching a movie then, yeah,
- 31:29Speaker 2: like someone playing him.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Have you seen Borg McEnroe. They made a movie and
- 31:35Speaker 1: Sheila Booth played John McEnroe. Oh you can kind of
- 31:41Speaker 1: see it, yeah, a little bit. You know, they're both
- 31:44Speaker 1: like volatile.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Yeah true and yeah, kind of want to see someone
- 31:48Speaker 2: ask him what's your favorite pizza?
- 31:52Speaker 1: He would lose his mind, Yeah, because you could tell,
- 31:55Speaker 1: like it's obviously, I guess the story as old as
- 31:58Speaker 1: time as athletes kind of annoyed being at a press conference. Yeah,
- 32:01Speaker 1: but he's like, oh, yeah, I got to be here,
- 32:03Speaker 1: and you know, blah blah blah. But then if someone
- 32:05Speaker 1: yelled out, what's your favorite pizza? Like yeah, yeah, so yeah,
- 32:12Speaker 1: that's the first edition a double vault, Like I think
- 32:15Speaker 1: him wanting to make the nets bigger in the service line.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's crazy.
- 32:22Speaker 1: I'd watch that tournament. Yeah. But we're going to dig
- 32:28Speaker 1: through the archives find interesting interviews and clips from the past,
- 32:32Speaker 1: and I can't wait.
- 32:34Speaker 2: I'd love to see some clips of the crowd. Yeah,
- 32:37Speaker 2: my interviews with the crowd back then, to see what
- 32:40Speaker 2: it was.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Like, yeah, yeah, yeah, some big hairdoos.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Yeah, big hairdos, weird accents. You know, the Aussie accent
- 32:46Speaker 2: is kind of chained, has it. Yeah, it used to
- 32:48Speaker 2: be a little bit more British.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Oh, a little more proper.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Especially around the tennis.
- 32:54Speaker 1: And now it just sounds like crispy.
- 32:56Speaker 4: Here we're.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Biking Vega.
- 33:04Speaker 3: What is your favorite kind of crispy bike?
- 33:06Speaker 1: And Bega A right, So now getting into everybody's favorite segment.
- 33:12Speaker 1: We keep this at the tail end of the show
- 33:14Speaker 1: to keep people sticking.
- 33:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it's my favorite segment of Oh, that's nice to
- 33:31Speaker 2: do that with you in time.
- 33:32Speaker 1: I know sound delay otherwise known as anagram of pova.
- 33:39Speaker 2: This week, it's so good it has two names.
- 33:45Speaker 1: This week, I've gone with Sablenka Sunshine W. I am
- 33:52Speaker 1: a lot to work with this is and as I predicted,
- 33:55Speaker 1: she would get the sunshine W. The letters in Sabelenka
- 33:59Speaker 1: suns and W re arranged. I knew unshakeable as beautiful.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Ah, that's good. I knew unshakeable a description of a
- 34:12Speaker 2: very Mike Well is unshakeable as it sounds like.
- 34:19Speaker 3: The un spelt the same way as the uh.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Is that oh, I wrote that there's an extra k
- 34:27Speaker 1: in there. I wrote on Shacob bakl very jet lag.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Since four am. I've had three copies already. It does translate.
- 34:40Speaker 1: I put a typo. It's not unshake a bakable.
- 34:43Speaker 2: I didn't. I don't think is anyone going.
- 34:45Speaker 1: To pick us up on Apparently someone has before.
- 34:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:56Speaker 1: The interview that will be going with this week is
- 35:00Speaker 1: is Jessica Pegoula, who's currently seated number one at the
- 35:03Speaker 1: Charleston Open on the Gray Clay.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Great Clay. I'm going to look into this great.
- 35:08Speaker 1: We talked to her during the Australian. It's worth noting
- 35:11Speaker 1: the NFL playoffs were happening at the time. Her parents
- 35:16Speaker 1: own the Buffalo Bills, so that came up and I
- 35:19Speaker 1: apologize now because your NFL knowledge you can contribute.
- 35:24Speaker 2: I couldn't. I was just sitting sitting there. Yeah, yeah,
- 35:30Speaker 2: I didn't know that piece of information.
- 35:33Speaker 1: So this is us talking to Jessica Pegoula. Enjoy how's
- 35:45Speaker 1: it going? Did you do media day yesterday as well?
- 35:47Speaker 5: I'm doing it now and loving it?
- 35:49Speaker 1: Yeah, loving? What question do you get sick of?
- 35:55Speaker 5: Probably like how are you feeling to start the year?
- 36:01Speaker 5: What am I ever going? To say, like, why would
- 36:03Speaker 5: I ever say like I feel terrible?
- 36:04Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, oh I actually did a hammy earlier.
- 36:07Speaker 6: Yeah, I actually like broke my leg and I'm sick,
- 36:10Speaker 6: and like, I don't think people are ever really going
- 36:12Speaker 6: to say that, So I think you just get a
- 36:13Speaker 6: lot of the same generic answers.
- 36:14Speaker 2: You should just say I'm not really feeling it because
- 36:17Speaker 2: I have to be.
- 36:20Speaker 5: Just like, I don't know.
- 36:24Speaker 1: Welcome to pod labor Arena. Today on the podcast we
- 36:28Speaker 1: have Jessica Pagola. Yes, how are you feeling?
- 36:35Speaker 5: I'm feeling great. I'm so excited to be here to
- 36:41Speaker 5: start new year.
- 36:42Speaker 2: This is all lies I feel.
- 36:44Speaker 6: I do feel good. I'm happy to be here. You know,
- 36:47Speaker 6: Australia is a great place to be, especially here in Melbourne.
- 36:50Speaker 6: Everyone's happy and ready to go and coming off of
- 36:53Speaker 6: So you're.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Given the generic answer that you.
- 36:56Speaker 5: But I mean it's true, So like, I don't know
- 36:58Speaker 5: what else?
- 36:59Speaker 1: No, no, no, but tell us what you really feel.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Who don't you in Melbourne.
- 37:09Speaker 5: Pissed me off this morning?
- 37:11Speaker 2: Probably us.
- 37:14Speaker 1: We're a breath of fresh air.
- 37:16Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, you keep telling yourself that.
- 37:19Speaker 1: I'm getting enough to watch the Bills Broncos game.
- 37:22Speaker 5: Yeah, see, we can talk about that.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Let's talk about that, surely the Bills. She doesn't know.
- 37:30Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 37:31Speaker 1: I grew up in Kansas City.
- 37:33Speaker 2: What's your team?
- 37:34Speaker 5: No, I don't want to talk about.
- 37:37Speaker 6: My team is the Buffalo Bills, who've consistently lost to
- 37:41Speaker 6: the Kansas City Sheep.
- 37:41Speaker 1: But we're not even in the playoffs. So you guys
- 37:43Speaker 1: are good.

- 37:57Speaker 5: Yeah, it was bad.
- 37:58Speaker 1: That was brutal. I mean, one of the best for me,
- 38:01Speaker 1: one of the best games.
- 38:02Speaker 5: Unbelievable.
- 38:03Speaker 6: It was an unbelievable game, but it was I was
- 38:05Speaker 6: in my hotel room and it just happened, and I
- 38:07Speaker 6: was just like I have to go, like I had
- 38:10Speaker 6: to go practice.

- 38:14Speaker 6: I don't think, But I was going to the site
- 38:16Speaker 6: and the game kind of ended. I planned it out
- 38:18Speaker 6: so I could watch the game, and then their team
- 38:20Speaker 6: won with like thirteen seconds left, and like my sister
- 38:23Speaker 6: was actually here with me, and she just like storms
- 38:26Speaker 6: that we were watching it together in my room and
- 38:28Speaker 6: she just like storms out of the room, like doesn't
- 38:30Speaker 6: say one word, and I'm just saying, like staring at
- 38:32Speaker 6: the TV, like did that just happen? We like, you know,
- 38:35Speaker 6: because at that point we're like, oh my god, we
- 38:38Speaker 6: like we won. You're kind of thinking that, like you're
- 38:40Speaker 6: not really thinking I mean you're thinking it, you're.
- 38:42Speaker 2: Hoping serious nods. Yeah, they're like, I'm like, very good bills,
- 38:49Speaker 2: go bills.
- 38:49Speaker 1: We'll ask one question before getting in the ping pong
- 38:53Speaker 1: that we've been asking people the strangest thing you've ever
- 38:56Speaker 1: found in your tennis bag?
- 38:58Speaker 5: The strangest thing. I don't think there's anything strange.
- 39:02Speaker 1: It's just like old old Bana. What happened? Well, we're
- 39:07Speaker 1: getting it out there that we found out that Grigor
- 39:09Speaker 1: Dimitrov carries a gun. I made that up.
- 39:17Speaker 5: Strike me.
- 39:20Speaker 1: It's a Gucci gun though, yeah, that makes And playing
- 39:30Speaker 1: today we have Jessica, Paula and Lizzie who Lizzy has
- 39:33Speaker 1: elected to serve. Take it away, Lizzie, all right, quite

- 39:50Speaker 1: You don't want to do it. I'm a cheese fan.
- 39:52Speaker 1: You can fire a ball at my back as hard
- 39:53Speaker 1: as you can do it for the bill. Yeah, all fast, paper, dirty.
