- 0:00Speaker 1: Scrubbing in with Becca Tilly and Tanya rap An iHeartRadio podcast.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Hello everybody, we are scrubbing it scrub.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Dub dub with the mananal. Oh that was pretty thank you.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Yeah, we've got this. It's been a minute since we've
- 0:19Speaker 2: done a Mantle.
- 0:20Speaker 1: It has been because you know why, can I tell
- 0:23Speaker 1: you why? Why?
- 0:25Speaker 2: From my perspective, why, Because I'm dating a woman, and
- 0:30Speaker 2: now that it's public, I'm like, do we need the
- 0:33Speaker 2: men's advice? But you know, there are a lot of
- 0:36Speaker 2: people out there still in the dating world with men,
- 0:38Speaker 2: in the in the thick of.
- 0:39Speaker 1: It, in the thick of it with men, and such
- 0:42Speaker 1: as myself. Well, I'm not in the thick of it,
- 0:44Speaker 1: but I am dating a man.
- 0:46Speaker 2: You were engaged to me.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Yes, I'm going to marry a man. I'm going to
- 0:50Speaker 1: marry a man. That's so crazy.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Well, we were like, it's time to remake the Mantle
- 0:57Speaker 2: and where where better to do it than at Epicon.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Yes, and we had. Let me tell you, we have
- 1:02Speaker 1: some stacked Mantle participants today.
- 1:05Speaker 2: And all these guys are married men in like long
- 1:08Speaker 2: term relationship.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Yeah, so we got to get to the root of
- 1:11Speaker 1: how it all began, how it all.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Began, And on this list, we're gonna, we're gonna talk
- 1:15Speaker 2: to Sean Ashmore, Bar Johnson, whom we absolutely adore. H
- 1:20Speaker 2: you know what that movie is?
- 1:22Speaker 3: No?
- 1:22Speaker 2: Oh it takes two?
- 1:24Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I've seen that movie.
- 1:26Speaker 2: David Limb, yes, and Colin Donnell, who you have a.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Okay, so, no joke. I literally this was over ten
- 1:35Speaker 1: years ago. We look at if he's gonna remember.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Me, that is all I want. All I want is
- 1:40Speaker 2: for him to not remember. Oh my gosh, just for
- 1:43Speaker 2: like the discomfort of this moment, not for anyone, like
- 1:47Speaker 2: I think you're so memorable. I think it'd be crazy
- 1:51Speaker 2: for like the entertainment factor. It'd be so good if
- 1:54Speaker 2: he doesn't. So we're gonna we're gonna just hit them
- 1:57Speaker 2: with all the questions.
- 1:58Speaker 1: That's right, and further ado, without further ado, here we go,
- 2:01Speaker 1: let's go Mantle.
- 2:06Speaker 2: All right, everybody, welcome Sean Ashmore. Thanks for having me,
- 2:11Speaker 2: Thank you for being here. Of course you're our first
- 2:14Speaker 2: guest of the whole epicn.
- 2:16Speaker 4: Okay, all right, warm up is what you're saying?
- 2:18Speaker 2: No? No, no, jump right in? Yeah? All right? All right?
- 2:23Speaker 2: Do you do these often? These con fan conventions I.
- 2:27Speaker 5: Do a few year. I actually personally really enjoy it.
- 2:31Speaker 5: I think it's a good way to kind of find
- 2:33Speaker 5: out what stuff is working on whatever current project you're in,
- 2:37Speaker 5: and I feel like it's yeah, I feel like you
- 2:40Speaker 5: get a lot of comments on like well, I'm really
- 2:42Speaker 5: loving the storyline or like this scene really worked for me.
- 2:44Speaker 5: So I think it's kind of interesting to sort of
- 2:46Speaker 5: hear what the audience that you're making the show, film,
- 2:49Speaker 5: whatever you're working on is enjoying. Especially on a long
- 2:52Speaker 5: running TV show, you can be like, oh, this stuff
- 2:54Speaker 5: is really kind of working. It's also like a yearbook
- 2:56Speaker 5: on your career, Like I've gotten all these bracelets that
- 2:59Speaker 5: are just different characters over the years, and it's just
- 3:02Speaker 5: kind of fun. Like it's just a really enjoyable kind
- 3:04Speaker 5: of experience to hear about like what what people watched
- 3:07Speaker 5: over the years, what really sticks with them?
- 3:09Speaker 4: And I'm always kind of surprised.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Do you remember your first one, like first event like
- 3:13Speaker 2: this that you came to where there was fans? Yeah,
- 3:15Speaker 2: were you like totally overwhelmed and shocked or did it
- 3:18Speaker 2: feel that it.
- 3:20Speaker 4: Yeah, it felt good. Again, Like the.
- 3:23Speaker 5: I look at being an actor as kind of a
- 3:28Speaker 5: I mean, it's sort of a gift. And so the
- 3:29Speaker 5: fact that there you have a following, that's the only
- 3:31Speaker 5: reason you can continue to do it. That there's people
- 3:33Speaker 5: and a fan base or or people that are interested
- 3:36Speaker 5: in the stuff that you do. So to me, that's
- 3:38Speaker 5: kind of what I enjoy about it. Also, the first
- 3:42Speaker 5: con I did was in Philadelphia, and it was years
- 3:44Speaker 5: after I'd been a part of all the X Men stuff,
- 3:46Speaker 5: so I'd kind of been used to interacting with fans
- 3:49Speaker 5: over the years, whether it be on the street or
- 3:51Speaker 5: at premieres or whatever, So it wasn't that overwhelming.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Yeah wait, any way, you got these bracelets at each one,
- 3:56Speaker 1: so that's like.
- 3:57Speaker 4: No, no, this is this is today. That's just yeah, just
- 4:01Speaker 4: out there. Yeah, as like, and I'm sure I'll have
- 4:04Speaker 4: it just as a thing.
- 4:04Speaker 5: It's become a thing the last couple of years at
- 4:06Speaker 5: cons where people like make bracelets and like when they.
- 4:09Speaker 4: Come to meet you, they leave you a little things.
- 4:10Speaker 4: So these are all from the first hour they.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Get Okay, so they give you that, and what do they.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Say, just like, hey, I loved you okay.
- 4:15Speaker 5: So Wesley is from The Rookie, which is the TV
- 4:18Speaker 5: show that I'm doing right now. There's a show called
- 4:20Speaker 5: In a Heartbeat? Was it a Disney Channel show that
- 4:21Speaker 5: I did as a kid?
- 4:22Speaker 4: So I got it.
- 4:22Speaker 5: In a heart Beat one I got that's another rookie
- 4:25Speaker 5: one Iceman from X Men brad Rigby, which was a
- 4:28Speaker 5: Disney Channel movie I did with Hillary Duff like years ago,
- 4:33Speaker 5: and then this one was Iceman. So just it's just
- 4:35Speaker 5: all the stuff, like.
- 4:36Speaker 1: A like for people that are listening. These are basically
- 4:38Speaker 1: like Taylor Swift friendship that you get like at the
- 4:41Speaker 1: Aras tour.
- 4:41Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, so I don't know. I always throw them
- 4:43Speaker 4: on like a put on and it's kind of like
- 4:45Speaker 4: a little badge at the end of the con all
- 4:47Speaker 4: these things.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like going to a festival and you have
- 4:49Speaker 2: all your like wristbands. Yeah, that's your wristband. Yeah, what
- 4:54Speaker 2: do you have like one project where people come up
- 4:56Speaker 2: to you and they like freak out, like is it
- 4:58Speaker 2: consistent with one or is it so spread out?
- 5:01Speaker 5: So I've been I'm forty five for about to be
- 5:04Speaker 5: forty five, but I'm been acting since I was ten,
- 5:06Speaker 5: and so I've done a lot of projects and things shift, right.
- 5:09Speaker 5: It's like when during the X Men years, it was
- 5:11Speaker 5: all about the X Men. I did a show with
- 5:13Speaker 5: Kevin Bacon called The Following that was on Fox. It
- 5:15Speaker 5: was all about the Following. It's about the Rookie right now.
- 5:17Speaker 5: So I feel like it's kind of whatever is most current. Yeah,
- 5:22Speaker 5: but because I sort of have a library of work,
- 5:24Speaker 5: there's there's always that recognition, and I think people really
- 5:27Speaker 5: get excited about the first thing they saw you in.
- 5:29Speaker 5: So I did a Nickelodeon show called Animorphs, so you know,
- 5:33Speaker 5: I get a lot of animals. Love like Kelly is
- 5:35Speaker 5: still a thing. So it's kind of cumulative in a way.
- 5:39Speaker 5: But mostly it's usually about whatever you're kind of doing
- 5:41Speaker 5: in the moment where people kind of like recognize you
- 5:43Speaker 5: from that. But it's really kind of fun to have
- 5:45Speaker 5: that like library of stuff and people be like, yeah,
- 5:47Speaker 5: I'm watching the rookie, but I know you from whenever
- 5:50Speaker 5: the thing is, you know, and I'm like, Oh, you're
- 5:51Speaker 5: an old school fan.
- 5:52Speaker 4: That's crazy.
- 5:53Speaker 2: That's it's so true though. You do fall in love
- 5:55Speaker 2: with people from the first project you see them in. Yeah,
- 5:58Speaker 2: like you kind of that's when you decide, like, I'm
- 5:59Speaker 2: going to be a fan of.
- 6:00Speaker 5: This person, and that's what con sort of remind me
- 6:03Speaker 5: of is like because people are like, oh, I love
- 6:05Speaker 5: the Rookie and watching it, but I've been watching you
- 6:07Speaker 5: since in a heartbeat animalphs Kelly and again it feels
- 6:11Speaker 5: really awesome, and I sort of feel like I owe
- 6:15Speaker 5: my career to an extent to the people that have
- 6:18Speaker 5: like stuck around with you and continue to support you
- 6:20Speaker 5: over the years.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Well, let me tell you. Two of those people work
- 6:22Speaker 1: on our podcast, one of them and then another one
- 6:27Speaker 1: is listening. Her name is Crystal. They have Crystal with
- 6:30Speaker 1: you from the beginning. Are tried and true?
- 6:33Speaker 4: That's so awesome.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but we do feel like you were like
- 6:36Speaker 2: before internet boyfriend was a thing. We feel like you
- 6:39Speaker 2: were the Internet boyfriend.
- 6:40Speaker 4: Wait, I don't really know what internet boyfriend is.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Explain, explain, Okay, it's just everyone everyone loves they like
- 6:49Speaker 1: dubbed the Internet's boyfriend. So I was just like the
- 6:52Speaker 1: Internet moment. Yeah, the moment is the Internet boyfriend right now,
- 6:55Speaker 1: like Timothy shallon course, Yeah, the original?
- 7:01Speaker 4: All right, right, the.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Original, the original.
- 7:04Speaker 5: I'll take that, man, I'll take that, and I'll move
- 7:07Speaker 5: forward to the day feeling good about being the original.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Internet boyfriend as you're like, bio.
- 7:14Speaker 4: That doesn't seem like.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Scrubbing in has Originally, Oh, I.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Wish we would have had. We should have given you
- 7:22Speaker 1: some sort of like.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Trophy already we got another day next time.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Actually, you know that does it's because you've been married
- 7:31Speaker 1: for how many years now?
- 7:33Speaker 4: Twelve years?
- 7:33Speaker 1: Twelve years and being that you are like the original
- 7:36Speaker 1: internet boyfriend, is that like so weird for your wife
- 7:40Speaker 1: to kind of just be like, my husband is this
- 7:42Speaker 1: like boyfriend to all these.
- 7:45Speaker 5: She's like, I don't give I don't care about any
- 7:47Speaker 5: of that. She doesn't care.
- 7:48Speaker 2: So we met.
- 7:49Speaker 5: She was an assistant director for years and a producer
- 7:51Speaker 5: for years, so she doesn't care.
- 7:53Speaker 4: We met on a movie.
- 7:54Speaker 5: She gets it, she's in it, and she's just like,
- 7:56Speaker 5: I mean, she's the best, she loves me, all that stuff.
- 7:59Speaker 5: But whenever this kind of stuff happens, she just it's
- 8:01Speaker 5: like an eye roll.
- 8:02Speaker 2: You know.
- 8:02Speaker 5: She's like, you know, you're taking the trash out when
- 8:04Speaker 5: you get home, and I'm like, I know, so that's just.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Yeah, mess up your bracelets, but the trash does need
- 8:12Speaker 2: to be taken up exactly.
- 8:13Speaker 4: Yeah, the dishes need to be done, the trash. He's
- 8:15Speaker 4: taken out time to make lunch for your son.
- 8:18Speaker 2: You know, yeah, I am curious of what because at
- 8:21Speaker 2: the time that you met her, was there anything about
- 8:23Speaker 2: her I'm assuming being like a heart throb in people
- 8:26Speaker 2: coming up to you and loving you and getting attention
- 8:28Speaker 2: from women. What was it about your wife that set
- 8:30Speaker 2: out that you were like, Cho's it.
- 8:34Speaker 4: I just sort of knew.
- 8:36Speaker 5: We met on a film and it was kind of
- 8:38Speaker 5: like forbidden romance on the set because she was an
- 8:41Speaker 5: assistant director like part of the crew, and it's like,
- 8:43Speaker 5: you're not supposed to like mingle. So I think that
- 8:45Speaker 5: was part of the initial attraction where it was like
- 8:47Speaker 5: it's kind of like forbidden.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:49Speaker 5: Yeah, Like we would hang out after work and then
- 8:51Speaker 5: I would go to work and she wouldn't look at me,
- 8:53Speaker 5: she wouldn't talk to me and try to sit next
- 8:54Speaker 5: for her lunch and she would just be like uh uh.
- 8:56Speaker 1: So I like, it's like Meredith Gray and uh and
- 9:00Speaker 1: uh Meredith and Derek in the beginning the forbidden line,
- 9:03Speaker 1: oh like the boss.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Well yeah, yeah, just like.
- 9:05Speaker 5: OK, yeah, So it just was like, well, we're not
- 9:07Speaker 5: really supposed to be doing this, so that was kind
- 9:09Speaker 5: of fun.
- 9:10Speaker 4: But when I left.
- 9:12Speaker 5: We shot in Utah and she lived in Atlanta and
- 9:14Speaker 5: I was in Los Angeles. I when we the day
- 9:17Speaker 5: that we left, I was on my plane. I got
- 9:20Speaker 5: off my plane to say goodbye or because I was
- 9:21Speaker 5: like I didn't know, like we'd kind of been dating,
- 9:23Speaker 5: but I wasn't sure if I was going to see
- 9:24Speaker 5: her again.
- 9:24Speaker 4: But I had like a movie moment where.
- 9:25Speaker 5: I like got off the plane and I was like,
- 9:27Speaker 5: I need to go like Huger and say goodbye and whatever.
- 9:29Speaker 4: So I just knew. I don't know what it was.
- 9:31Speaker 4: I just knew.
- 9:33Speaker 5: And then she ended up and I'm not She'll tell
- 9:35Speaker 5: you I'm not the most romantic guy, so it probably
- 9:37Speaker 5: the most romantic thing I've ever done. But literally I
- 9:39Speaker 5: was like, the plane's not taking off, I'm getting off
- 9:41Speaker 5: the plane. I just want to go find her in
- 9:42Speaker 5: the airport and like say goodbye, because I was like,
- 9:43Speaker 5: I just didn't know when I was going to see
- 9:45Speaker 5: her again, So I yeah, I just knew.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Wow, Yeah, Ross and Rachel I got off the plane.
- 9:50Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah, it's crazy.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Do you know her love languages or do you know
- 9:53Speaker 1: your love languages?
- 9:55Speaker 5: Her love language is physical affection and and.
- 10:02Speaker 6: Like acts of.
- 10:02Speaker 4: Service and stuff like that.
- 10:03Speaker 1: You know, we love a man that knows that just
- 10:05Speaker 1: even knows that term honestly.
- 10:07Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 10:08Speaker 5: Yeah, she loves like a like a foot massage for
- 10:11Speaker 5: her is like the you know has her like you
- 10:15Speaker 5: know if that if I if I'm ever in the doghouse,
- 10:18Speaker 5: I'm like, let me give you a foot rub, honey.
- 10:19Speaker 2: She wow. Service and I mean that's acts of service
- 10:23Speaker 2: and physical touch. Yeah, so you just knock out.
- 10:25Speaker 7: To right there.
- 10:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm efficient.
- 10:29Speaker 2: What what are you working on right now? What's coming
- 10:32Speaker 2: up for you?
- 10:33Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 10:33Speaker 5: So we're shooting season seven of The Rookie. We're right
- 10:35Speaker 5: in the middle. I think we're about to start shooting
- 10:37Speaker 5: episode nine. Uh and it airs in January. I don't
- 10:40Speaker 5: know the exact date. Also have at least two films
- 10:45Speaker 5: that are done. A film called The Huntsman that's like
- 10:47Speaker 5: a thriller based on a novel of the same title
- 10:50Speaker 5: that I shot in Oklahoma City this summer and I'm
- 10:53Speaker 5: really excited about that. And then also a horror film
- 10:57Speaker 5: with an actor named Ashley Green who've actually worked.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah, she's great.
- 11:03Speaker 5: We did a movie called Aftermath on Netflix Film and
- 11:05Speaker 5: we had the opportunity to work together again on another
- 11:08Speaker 5: kind of similar genre movie and yeah, it's called It
- 11:11Speaker 5: Feeds and I'm not sure when that's coming out, but
- 11:13Speaker 5: those are both done and ready to come out.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Oh that's so cool. Do you have a preference of
- 11:17Speaker 2: movies or network television.
- 11:20Speaker 5: I think my love is always film. I just love
- 11:23Speaker 5: the idea of popping into a character, living in it,
- 11:27Speaker 5: and then being done, like moving on. And I also
- 11:29Speaker 5: like reading a script from start to finishing, knowing exactly
- 11:33Speaker 5: what the character is, what the story is, like I
- 11:35Speaker 5: can fully prepare. But that's also what's interesting about network
- 11:38Speaker 5: TV is like you don't know where it's going to go. Yeah,
- 11:40Speaker 5: so there's that unpredictability. And if the writing is good
- 11:43Speaker 5: and the character is good, to get to develop and
- 11:45Speaker 5: spend a lot of time with a character is really
- 11:47Speaker 5: enjoyable too, So it's not like one's better than the other.
- 11:50Speaker 5: I kind of like to do both. Whenever we have
- 11:52Speaker 5: a hiatus, I try to go make films because I
- 11:54Speaker 5: like to mix things up with different characters.
- 11:57Speaker 1: He's a busy man. Wait, I didn't want to throw
- 11:59Speaker 1: it to eat because he was raising his hand and
- 12:01Speaker 1: I'm assuming that there's an X men question.
- 12:04Speaker 8: Close close, I wanted to. It was the movie You
- 12:06Speaker 8: Met your Wife on Frozen.
- 12:07Speaker 4: Yes, it was Frozen.
- 12:08Speaker 8: I love Frozen. I went through this thing where I
- 12:11Speaker 8: was watching movies about people trapped places. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 12:13Speaker 8: and Frozen they're trapped on a chair lift. Yeahs it's
- 12:18Speaker 8: so good. And if you haven't seen Frozen, everyone listening to.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Breaking Wait, that's like one of my biggest fears.
- 12:22Speaker 4: Yeah, it's crazy. So it happened.
- 12:24Speaker 5: It's happened in real life, not quite to the extent,
- 12:27Speaker 5: but the crazy thing is. So we made that movie
- 12:29Speaker 5: in Utah. We got into sun Dance and so we
- 12:32Speaker 5: had this movie about being stuck on a ski lift
- 12:34Speaker 5: at the Sundance Film Festival. It was like, this is
- 12:36Speaker 5: the perfect audience for this movie.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Was like skiing. They're like, our skiing has been lower
- 12:41Speaker 2: than the.
- 12:42Speaker 4: Lower Yeah, exactly.
- 12:43Speaker 5: Yeah, the attendants on the lift steve been low this season.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Wow, we're getting the finger to wrap it up. So
- 12:48Speaker 2: thank you for coming in and taking bank to you.
- 12:51Speaker 2: That was really, really fine, a wonderful time here, and
- 12:53Speaker 2: collect all the bracelets and.
- 12:54Speaker 4: Hopefully next time I see you both arms will be covered.
- 12:56Speaker 2: We'll get you an internet boyfriend bracelets. Thank you so much.
- 13:01Speaker 4: I appreciate it.
- 13:17Speaker 2: We have Bart Johnson in the house.
- 13:20Speaker 3: What a nice more welcome, that's so nice. Thank you,
- 13:23Speaker 3: so good to be here.
- 13:24Speaker 2: I was so excited to see you on our rundown
- 13:28Speaker 2: people to talk to you.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Yes, I was breaking up. I was like, came out
- 13:31Speaker 3: of nowhere today we have a podcast. I said who,
- 13:34Speaker 3: and they said you guys. I was like, come, let's go.
- 13:37Speaker 3: My old friends ever get to see I know.
- 13:40Speaker 2: What is it? Do you love coming to events like
- 13:42Speaker 2: this where you get to interact with the fans?
- 13:44Speaker 3: Love it? I'm kind of new, Like I started doing
- 13:46Speaker 3: this one for Disney with a Keny Ortega and all
- 13:49Speaker 3: the high school musical and different kind of Disney musicals
- 13:52Speaker 3: in Paris every year.
- 13:53Speaker 7: Oh my god, like a deal.
- 13:56Speaker 3: And like the fans are so great, like they're so
- 13:58Speaker 3: gracious and they're so glad you there, and it's really, uh,
- 14:01Speaker 3: it's pretty awesome. Ye's great. I like to party with
- 14:03Speaker 3: my people, you know.
- 14:04Speaker 4: Yeah, you are.
- 14:05Speaker 2: You and your wife Robin, who's one of my favorite
- 14:09Speaker 2: people in the world, are party people. Like your party energy.
- 14:15Speaker 2: It's so fun to be around y'all.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Well, same same with you, of course. I think that's
- 14:19Speaker 3: why we hit it off right away. But yeah, we
- 14:21Speaker 3: do like our family. I just went to a family event.
- 14:23Speaker 3: There's like seventy five cousins there. So I think it's
- 14:26Speaker 3: like it's in our DNA. It's just it just is.
- 14:29Speaker 2: It's so fun. But when you took the how long? When?
- 14:32Speaker 2: What year was it when you got the role for
- 14:34Speaker 2: coach Bolton?
- 14:35Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, that was like nineteen years ago.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Wow, could you ever imagine that?
- 14:42Speaker 3: No, it is No, it was wild like as it
- 14:46Speaker 3: because it came out of nowhere too. I got a
- 14:48Speaker 3: call from I knew I met. This is a long story,
- 14:49Speaker 3: but I met Kenny Ortega on the set of Newsies
- 14:52Speaker 3: if you know that movie like way back with Christian
- 14:54Speaker 3: Bale and Dave Moscow's like Keiths anyway, and he just
- 14:58Speaker 3: kind of was involved in my career, like he's just
- 15:00Speaker 3: been like really supportive. And my mom did his hair
- 15:03Speaker 3: the hair for the movies. So he's just like a
- 15:05Speaker 3: family friend for all these years. But he watched every
- 15:08Speaker 3: time I was on a TV series or did a movie.
- 15:10Speaker 3: He called it I loved you on that roll. So
- 15:12Speaker 3: this kind of came out of nowhere. I got the
- 15:13Speaker 3: phone call that said, hey, Listen, we're doing this movie.
- 15:16Speaker 3: It's small, it doesn't have a title yet. We're calling
- 15:18Speaker 3: it high school Musical until we come up with something.
- 15:21Speaker 3: No one's going to see it and there's no money,
- 15:24Speaker 3: but like we'll hang out, we'll have a great time.
- 15:25Speaker 3: I was, man, I'm totally in.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Wow, that's a really great lesson in life.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Actually this man say yes, yeah, say yes to those
- 15:33Speaker 3: opportunities for sure.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Yeah, and it may look like a like a like
- 15:36Speaker 1: a dull penny, but that it could be a shining
- 15:39Speaker 1: diamond at the day.
- 15:40Speaker 3: Here's here's another crazy thing. I couldn't get a job
- 15:43Speaker 3: after this, Like for like the first ten years, high
- 15:45Speaker 3: school Musical was out because I was like I was
- 15:48Speaker 3: the dad in high school musical. Like I wasn't like
- 15:50Speaker 3: like the new Like who's that all. That's Zach g Frond,
- 15:52Speaker 3: that's Vanessa Hudgens. Okay, yeah they're cool, but like the dad,
- 15:55Speaker 3: like that doesn't really give you the heat you want. Really,
- 15:58Speaker 3: like they're call going, hey, get us the dad from
- 16:01Speaker 3: the high school. No, I'm not saying that, you know.
- 16:04Speaker 3: So like I was, I didn't get I didn't have
- 16:06Speaker 3: like cool opportunities, not for like cool edgy like interesting
- 16:09Speaker 3: Netflix shows or anything like that. It was like I
- 16:13Speaker 3: tell you I was too and I get an unemployment.
- 16:22Speaker 3: But it all changed probably like ten years ago, all
- 16:25Speaker 3: of a sudden. Like what was interesting is I did I
- 16:28Speaker 3: did a TV series, a big network show, and when
- 16:32Speaker 3: I was like halfway through the show, then the show
- 16:34Speaker 3: runner came up to me and said, hey, by the way,
- 16:36Speaker 3: I'm a big Wildcat. So yeah, my wildcats now were
- 16:39Speaker 3: like then now they're running things.
- 16:40Speaker 4: So it's like it's all come back around.
- 16:43Speaker 3: And now it's like, I don't know, it's it's interesting
- 16:45Speaker 3: because I used to only be famous for little kids,
- 16:47Speaker 3: and like as time goes on, it's like, oh, I
- 16:49Speaker 3: see now they're now every vis in junior high. Oh
- 16:51Speaker 3: now was in high school? Oh now everybos in college.
- 16:54Speaker 2: You know.
- 16:54Speaker 3: So it's like I've got this like this big long
- 16:56Speaker 3: fan base of a Wildcats are looking out for their
- 16:58Speaker 3: coach now. So yeah, I got a nice audience.
- 17:01Speaker 2: So we have you and I have a thing where
- 17:04Speaker 2: you go to different countries and you'll tag me in
- 17:07Speaker 2: videos of McDonald's and so I'll repose the comments is
- 17:13Speaker 2: so sick, yes, and the idea literally my d are
- 17:19Speaker 2: like how do you know, Coach Bulton, Like this is
- 17:22Speaker 2: my favorite collab ever, Like people love it so like
- 17:25Speaker 2: we need to pitch ourselves to McDonald's to do like
- 17:27Speaker 2: a tour tour.
- 17:29Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's good.
- 17:31Speaker 1: McDonald's has been the best so far.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Man.
- 17:34Speaker 4: That's that's a tough question.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Tough one because they all got different stuff everywhere, you know,
- 17:39Speaker 3: Like the one that Japan I just went to, they
- 17:40Speaker 3: had like a shrimp in their chicken sandwich.
- 17:43Speaker 2: I can try.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Oh my god, that sounds actually interesting.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Yeah, that's pretty interesting. Yeah, I don't know that. You know,
- 17:51Speaker 3: that's a question I'm going to work on and get
- 17:53Speaker 3: back to me.
- 17:53Speaker 2: You get back to Hamm. Yeah, you're really good at TikTok,
- 17:58Speaker 2: really good at TikTok.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Thanks.
- 18:00Speaker 2: What do your kids say about your TikTok?
- 18:02Speaker 3: Oh, my gosh, they hate it. They hate it so much.
- 18:05Speaker 3: They just wish I never got that assay actually loves
- 18:09Speaker 3: you things well, Robin has known, like I actually came
- 18:12Speaker 3: from like musical theater, and so when I got high
- 18:15Speaker 3: school musical I was supposed to have a song and
- 18:17Speaker 3: a dance in that movie, and the first one there
- 18:19Speaker 3: was a song and a dance like a competition one
- 18:21Speaker 3: like anything you could do, I could do better. I
- 18:23Speaker 3: love competition in a darbus and they cut the sucker.
- 18:26Speaker 1: I never want to use moment.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Yeah, So I think I'm finally getting into a musical.
- 18:31Speaker 3: And I was pretty young when I did that high
- 18:32Speaker 3: school music like I've never played a dad before. They're like,
- 18:34Speaker 3: you're gonna play a dad. I'm like a dad, Like,
- 18:36Speaker 3: I've never done that before. So I think I'm gonna
- 18:39Speaker 3: be doing all the singing and dancing. And I get
- 18:41Speaker 3: there to the movie and they're like you stand over
- 18:44Speaker 3: there on the sideline or we're gonna do all the
- 18:45Speaker 3: dancing you hear without you. I'm like, oh this sucks, man,
- 18:48Speaker 3: And a lot of those kids like they don't they
- 18:49Speaker 3: don't have a singing dancing background. I do singing dance.
- 18:54Speaker 3: So and then the sequel comes out. I'm almost certainly
- 18:56Speaker 3: now I danced pretty good at that rap party on
- 18:59Speaker 3: high school is going on there, no, no, not out,
- 19:02Speaker 3: and I'm like number three, like this is my moment
- 19:03Speaker 3: to shine, man, I'm gonna do some singing and dancing nothing.
- 19:07Speaker 3: So then TikTok comes out and I have a lot
- 19:09Speaker 3: of people you're messaging me like you got you gotta
- 19:11Speaker 3: jump on okay, all right, I'll try. Yeah, now it's
- 19:13Speaker 3: my time. Yeah, because you could do whatever you want
- 19:16Speaker 3: on TikTok, so let it be.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Another lesson in life. Yeah that's right, yeah right, yeah,
- 19:20Speaker 1: go do don't get what you want to do it yourself.
- 19:22Speaker 3: I haven't debuted my singing yet though, that's that's in.
- 19:25Speaker 2: The work coming. Instruments.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Yeah, play a little, I play a little piano, little guitar.
- 19:31Speaker 2: What about the first track? What about the first track?
- 19:34Speaker 3: Yeah, well yeah, I guess you know, whatever the kids
- 19:36Speaker 3: want you, whatever the kids.
- 19:39Speaker 2: Want from.
- 19:42Speaker 4: It's zaddi.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Yeah, kids love that.
- 19:46Speaker 2: There was there was one first trap and then you
- 19:48Speaker 2: got you deleted it, so.
- 19:51Speaker 3: I didn't know about that.
- 19:54Speaker 2: As soon as it went not.
- 19:55Speaker 3: I s.
- 19:57Speaker 1: You're not quick enough for.
- 20:01Speaker 3: Online I love yeah, No, you know, I like the
- 20:06Speaker 3: the trends are fun and I like to try to
- 20:08Speaker 3: find anytime a trend comes out, I always think like, okay,
- 20:11Speaker 3: I don't want to just do the tremble, like how
- 20:12Speaker 3: can I do like the coach version of this trend,
- 20:14Speaker 3: you know, or the and I get the best response
- 20:17Speaker 3: from you know, from that for my like little spin
- 20:19Speaker 3: on it I love you.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Like they go creepy, Like I'm like, when we need
- 20:23Speaker 2: a Coach Bolton musical.
- 20:26Speaker 3: We do. I've written one, actually I have. I have
- 20:30Speaker 3: so you know, I'll.
- 20:31Speaker 2: See what that like live high school.
- 20:34Speaker 1: You've done it, You've written one.
- 20:35Speaker 3: You're so surprised. I guess I never mentioned.
- 20:37Speaker 1: It to anybody when you essence, you now have it.
- 20:41Speaker 1: You did it. Why don't you get these people that
- 20:43Speaker 1: are the Coach Bolton fans that are now like the
- 20:45Speaker 1: people behind the scenes to make it.
- 20:47Speaker 3: That's true, that's good.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Can your taga?
- 20:50Speaker 3: Yeah? You know, Kenny's like so good with like the
- 20:53Speaker 3: young kids, and like, you know, he's always like on
- 20:55Speaker 3: the cutting edge of this. Yea, you know, I don't.
- 20:57Speaker 3: I don't know if you wants to look for maybe
- 21:04Speaker 3: he does. Maybe I love Kendy so much, Like he's
- 21:07Speaker 3: so sweet. I've known him like my whole entire life,
- 21:08Speaker 3: so I'm nothing bad to say back ever, like he
- 21:11Speaker 3: has like made such a good impression on me and
- 21:13Speaker 3: take care of my family and he's just been awesome.
- 21:15Speaker 3: He's great.
- 21:16Speaker 2: I love that. What what's your dream role to play?
- 21:19Speaker 2: Like if you could, if someone was like you have
- 21:21Speaker 2: the choice to play any role on TV movie whatever,
- 21:25Speaker 2: What would it look like?
- 21:26Speaker 3: Boy? You know, I guess I probably like jeez. I
- 21:29Speaker 3: don't know if i'd want like Jason Bateman's crip. Maybe
- 21:31Speaker 3: because people always thought I looked like Jason. You ever
- 21:35Speaker 3: since I was a kid, people thought I looked like
- 21:37Speaker 3: Jason Bayman. It's a crazy not so much now and
- 21:39Speaker 3: I'm getting like John Cena and like it's kind of
- 21:41Speaker 3: some weird stuff like I don't know, I think they're
- 21:45Speaker 3: talking about the bike.
- 21:45Speaker 8: Yeah that's something like that.
- 21:50Speaker 3: But yeah, I don't know. I really like those roles,
- 21:54Speaker 3: but I don't know if that's a fun thing about them.
- 21:58Speaker 3: That's crazy. It's crazy. I didn't see it at all.
- 22:01Speaker 3: It's like, what are people talking about? And then I
- 22:03Speaker 3: saw his picture was one particular picture John Cena was like,
- 22:05Speaker 3: whole crap, man, I look like that dude. Yeah, I'll
- 22:08Speaker 3: take his career. I mean he's doing he's doing comedies, like.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Yeah, he has gone into like oh yeah, well acting now,
- 22:17Speaker 2: oh yeah, he's doing like.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Cool action movie. I would love that. Kidding me, I
- 22:20Speaker 3: think a square in a second. But I really like Jase.
- 22:22Speaker 3: But you know, Jase Bailey directs and he acts and
- 22:25Speaker 3: I'm really interested in that too. I've done some directing
- 22:28Speaker 3: and I love it so much. And writing. I love
- 22:31Speaker 3: writing too, So I don't working here, man, I'm.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Going to do a quick little gearship Robin have been
- 22:38Speaker 1: married for how many years?
- 22:39Speaker 3: For I think this September is twenty five years? Can
- 22:44Speaker 3: you believe that September twenty f twenty five years? I
- 22:47Speaker 3: wish she was here, man, she was loving.
- 22:49Speaker 2: She's one of my favorite I just am obsessed with her.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I want to know, because twenty five years, that's that's
- 22:56Speaker 1: like what people strive for, you know what I mean?
- 22:58Speaker 1: Like that's like that's like the hope, the dream. How
- 23:00Speaker 1: how do you keep the twenty five years?
- 23:01Speaker 2: What do you do? Like?
- 23:03Speaker 1: Give me all the seat us we got?
- 23:04Speaker 3: How we have to come back from a much longer podcast.
- 23:06Speaker 3: But no, I have a lot to say about that, honestly,
- 23:09Speaker 3: like because we talk about it and we we uh
- 23:11Speaker 3: uh we work on it, and it's kind of I
- 23:13Speaker 3: don't know. I kind of think it's like.
- 23:14Speaker 1: It's like peaks and valleys.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Well it is, but it's also like what you put
- 23:17Speaker 3: in is what you get. I'm kind of like every
- 23:19Speaker 3: time I've given a talk because I give talks sometimes
- 23:21Speaker 3: because I like it, you know, like speeches or not speeches.
- 23:24Speaker 4: But like a talk ted talk.
- 23:26Speaker 3: Yeah, look kind of like that. Yeah, I always too
- 23:30Speaker 3: often I use the analogy of like the gym, you know,
- 23:32Speaker 3: like you go into the gym, Like if you go
- 23:33Speaker 3: ahead visit the gym every once in a while, you're
- 23:35Speaker 3: not gonna see any results, you know. But if you
- 23:36Speaker 3: go in there and consistently work, and you work really hard,
- 23:38Speaker 3: you're going to get some results. What you put in
- 23:40Speaker 3: is what you're going to get out. And I kind
- 23:41Speaker 3: of feel like a lot of people go to relationships
- 23:43Speaker 3: to receive, like oh I want this, I want this,
- 23:45Speaker 3: you know, and really your growth comes from you giving.
- 23:48Speaker 3: So I think there's a lot to be said about that,
- 23:50Speaker 3: Like show up to your relationship to give and light
- 23:52Speaker 3: that person up and don't think about yourself, you know,
- 23:55Speaker 3: think about what can I give to this relationship? And
- 23:57Speaker 3: the more you give, you're going to get back. And
- 23:59Speaker 3: because you're in in that relationship. And then there's all
- 24:01Speaker 3: the all the things, all the work things. You know,
- 24:03Speaker 3: what do they want? What lights them up? And what's healthy? What?
- 24:06Speaker 3: What are good healthy decisions do you make in your
- 24:08Speaker 3: life for your relationship. So I think it's I mean,
- 24:11Speaker 3: you put it in the center of your life and
- 24:12Speaker 3: it blesses your life. I think. You know. So we've
- 24:15Speaker 3: done that. We've like we've put our our kids and
- 24:18Speaker 3: our family and our relationship like at the center of
- 24:20Speaker 3: our world. And our career has suffered because of it. No,
- 24:23Speaker 3: not really, but but but it is it is, right, Yeah,
- 24:27Speaker 3: you know I joke about but that's like you have
- 24:29Speaker 3: to do that. You have to You can't put your
- 24:30Speaker 3: career first because it's like that's not really fulfilling. People
- 24:33Speaker 3: think that's what where you give filment. That's not where
- 24:34Speaker 3: you give fulfillment from giving and sacrificing and contributing and sacrifice,
- 24:38Speaker 3: you know. That kind of stuff is like there's your
- 24:40Speaker 3: fulfillment and then all the fun stuff and the career
- 24:43Speaker 3: and the acting and the movies, and that's icing on
- 24:45Speaker 3: the cake. That's the that's the fun stuff. But yeah, yeah, I.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Also feel like y'all just genuinely like each other, like
- 24:52Speaker 2: being in love with each other, y'all like it, like
- 24:54Speaker 2: y'all just enjoy y'all have fun together.
- 24:56Speaker 3: That's true. That's true. No, that's and and I don't
- 24:58Speaker 3: know if I just kind of got lucky, because I
- 25:01Speaker 3: don't think when I was in my twenties, I was like,
- 25:03Speaker 3: that girl has really a lot of wonderful qualities as
- 25:05Speaker 3: a mother. You know, she'd be an amazing homemaker. Like
- 25:08Speaker 3: when you're in your twenties, you're so stupid, You're like,
- 25:10Speaker 3: she's hot. It's a bid body, like I don't want
- 25:13Speaker 3: that ship you make any stupid and based on stupid decisions.
- 25:16Speaker 3: But I will say when I met Robin, I was
- 25:19Speaker 3: teaching acting class for her dad. Another long story, but
- 25:22Speaker 3: I'll tell it here. But she walked in the door
- 25:25Speaker 3: one day and I was like already friends with her
- 25:27Speaker 3: sister Blake, like in acting classes for Ernie Lively's acting studios.
- 25:31Speaker 3: And she walked in the door and I was like,
- 25:33Speaker 3: that's the one. I'm going to marry that girl. And
- 25:36Speaker 3: I was probably twenty five at the time, but the
- 25:38Speaker 3: way she lit up the room and her personality and
- 25:40Speaker 3: everything I saw, I was like, that's it. That's like
- 25:43Speaker 3: I saw her like genuine like I don't know, just
- 25:46Speaker 3: like that energy she is she is oh so drawn
- 25:50Speaker 3: to that. And then it was like three years of
- 25:51Speaker 3: stocking until I got to date her. Yeah, but maybe
- 25:56Speaker 3: two and a half three years of like she was like, nah,
- 25:59Speaker 3: she had a boyfriend of the.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Time, sneaky.
- 26:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I was working from the inside.
- 26:04Speaker 4: Yea was very helpful in life.
- 26:07Speaker 3: Persistence persistence, Well, you know, I had this mindset of like, oh,
- 26:11Speaker 3: these kind of girls, like they're never single, They're never like,
- 26:13Speaker 3: oh cool, I'm single. I'm gonna go hang out at
- 26:15Speaker 3: a bar, like they're not like that's you're not gonna
- 26:17Speaker 3: you gotta do.
- 26:18Speaker 1: You know what's wrong with the single girl at the bar?
- 26:19Speaker 3: Nothing's wrong with her. She just doesn't go to a
- 26:22Speaker 3: bar ever, Like she just doesn't go.
- 26:25Speaker 2: At the bar.
- 26:25Speaker 3: She's just not there. She doesn't go there. Yeah, I'm
- 26:28Speaker 3: in more specifically for her, I should clear fat but well,
- 26:32Speaker 3: plenty of amazing people I was single Attle bar of course,
- 26:35Speaker 3: but but her, she didn't go to bar. She's literally
- 26:37Speaker 3: never been to a bar, never went to parties, never
- 26:39Speaker 3: went out, she never went outside. So she like, you
- 26:44Speaker 3: know she so so I knew, like the only way
- 26:48Speaker 3: what I noticed about the about is this is Robin Specifically,
- 26:51Speaker 3: she's an actress, right, She's been actresses she was three.
- 26:53Speaker 3: So every single boyfriend she had for the last like
- 26:55Speaker 3: fifteen years or all guys that she was on a
- 26:57Speaker 3: TV series with like those were her Yeah, and that was.
- 27:02Speaker 2: And it's really easy.
- 27:03Speaker 3: That's just because you don't ever go out ever, you
- 27:06Speaker 3: don't ever socialize, So then the only time you socialize,
- 27:08Speaker 3: you're on set and you have a scene where you're
- 27:11Speaker 3: just you're together. You know, when you shoot a movie,
- 27:12Speaker 3: you guys know, it's like you spend twelve hours a
- 27:14Speaker 3: day with like one person. So that's who she dated.
- 27:17Speaker 3: I'm like, well, how am I going to get on
- 27:18Speaker 3: TV Seria? I got how I did this girl? She
- 27:20Speaker 3: never goes out, So I was like, I gotta just
- 27:22Speaker 3: be I got to hang out and like like develop
- 27:24Speaker 3: the friendship and do that thing where it's like, oh,
- 27:26Speaker 3: the best kind of people dated when people you had
- 27:28Speaker 3: a friendship first, Like okay, never done that before, but yes,
- 27:31Speaker 3: I gotta do. So started laying the groundwork, working from
- 27:34Speaker 3: the inside, hanging out with the family, and uh just
- 27:36Speaker 3: kind of like waited for the opportunity. And then she
- 27:39Speaker 3: finally got single, someone else swooped in. Yeah, and I
- 27:45Speaker 3: had to do it again. It was terrible, so painful,
- 27:50Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, it's so hard. I mean there was
- 27:53Speaker 3: a lot of humility, a lot of broken heart, a
- 27:56Speaker 3: lot of just one, just one one broken heart, right, Yeah, yeah,
- 28:03Speaker 3: it's pretty brutal. It was, it was. It was tough.
- 28:05Speaker 3: It was tough, but I've worked through it.
- 28:07Speaker 2: It worked out.
- 28:08Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a great story, like how the whole thing
- 28:12Speaker 3: like went down. But some of the black people have
- 28:15Speaker 3: encouraged to write a movie about you don't have to
- 28:18Speaker 3: embellish a thing.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Man.
- 28:19Speaker 3: It is so heartbreaking, but you don't hate. Twenty five
- 28:22Speaker 3: years later and uh, you got the girl.
- 28:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I got the girl.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I got the redhead with the three redheaded kids.
- 28:28Speaker 3: And it's uh, it's it's a good it's a great life.
- 28:30Speaker 3: I love it.
- 28:32Speaker 2: I love that. I love our family. I know, I know,
- 28:35Speaker 2: before we go, what's your toxic trade, toxic trait. It's
- 28:40Speaker 2: like the lighthearted toxic truit.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Oh oh gosh, you're always late. Oh okay, oh I eat
- 28:45Speaker 3: too much? Oh yeah, yeah for sure. I literally like
- 28:49Speaker 3: I last night I got here to Chicago and I
- 28:52Speaker 3: was like, okay, they have a gym. Let me go
- 28:53Speaker 3: check out the gym. And the gym like sucked. It's
- 28:55Speaker 3: terrible here. And I was like, okay, Giordano's is like
- 28:58Speaker 3: five minutes away, so I was like, let's go to
- 29:00Speaker 3: your daughter's. I got a whole big pizza of myself
- 29:02Speaker 3: and ate every single I did not leave a bite
- 29:04Speaker 3: on the table.
- 29:05Speaker 2: And then you're just like, yeah, yeah, I feel like
- 29:10Speaker 2: I would have a better career, more money, and a
- 29:12Speaker 2: better life if I would just less.
- 29:14Speaker 3: So yeah, I can't do it too. And then we'll
- 29:19Speaker 3: just go to McDonald's world tour.
- 29:22Speaker 2: We love you so much, thank you for taking have
- 29:25Speaker 2: so much fun this today.
- 29:26Speaker 3: And this is a great start. I just arrived and
- 29:29Speaker 3: this is amazing.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Yeah, you're the best. Thank you. All right, you guys,
- 29:51Speaker 2: we have David Limb here.
- 29:55Speaker 6: What a warm welcome thing.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, that's how we do it in the
- 29:58Speaker 1: O R.
- 29:59Speaker 6: What's so R?
- 30:00Speaker 1: That's that's our podcast?
- 30:02Speaker 4: Oh okay, cool, where's the stand for operating room?
- 30:05Speaker 6: Okay?
- 30:07Speaker 2: Our podcast name comes from we We just celebrated our
- 30:11Speaker 2: seven years yesterday, so thank you so much.
- 30:14Speaker 9: Amazing, but we we got you by one year eld
- 30:16Speaker 9: season eight.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Yeah, but y'all have had some complicated journey. Yeah but yeah,
- 30:24Speaker 2: our podcast is called Scrubbing In because of our love
- 30:26Speaker 2: for Grady's anatomy, so we reference ourselves.
- 30:28Speaker 4: As wed Yeah. Yeah cool.
- 30:32Speaker 2: So, speaking of the bumps in the road on SWAT
- 30:35Speaker 2: were you has it been an emotional roller coaster?
- 30:38Speaker 9: Yes, no doubt for sure. I mean we we've been dealing,
- 30:43Speaker 9: uh with the emotions when you since the pilot. When
- 30:47Speaker 9: you get a show, you know, you're like, great, I'm
- 30:49Speaker 9: part of this really cool pilot. More swatch Sean Ryan
- 30:54Speaker 9: from the Shield, Justin lenn Is directing. So it's like
- 30:57Speaker 9: you're overwhelmed with so much shoy that you're a part
- 30:59Speaker 9: of something. Okay, then you got to go make it,
- 31:02Speaker 9: and then you got to see if you get picked up, right,
- 31:05Speaker 9: So you're you're constantly wondering, are we even going to
- 31:07Speaker 9: be able to make a season of this?
- 31:10Speaker 4: Okay?
- 31:11Speaker 9: Then you get picked up season one? Congratulations?
- 31:14Speaker 6: Great?
- 31:15Speaker 9: Now are we going to get a back nine of
- 31:17Speaker 9: the first season. So we've been going through this for
- 31:20Speaker 9: and at the end of each season, you you know,
- 31:22Speaker 9: are we going to get canceled? Are we going to
- 31:23Speaker 9: get picked up? And then obviously the last couple of
- 31:26Speaker 9: years we've been canceled. After season six uncanceled, Well.
- 31:30Speaker 1: How does that happen?
- 31:31Speaker 2: How do you get uncanceled.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Yeah, sounds like the dream.
- 31:34Speaker 9: Shamar Schamar had a lot to do with it, our
- 31:37Speaker 9: fans had had a lot to do with it. And
- 31:40Speaker 9: there's a lot of things that go on behind the
- 31:43Speaker 9: scenes of getting the show made, all the political the
- 31:47Speaker 9: economics of doing a show, and in today's world of
- 31:52Speaker 9: five hundred different scripted shows, all sorts of streaming platforms,
- 31:55Speaker 9: it's no longer that, you know, you get good ratings
- 31:57Speaker 9: and you get great viewership, which we've always had, and
- 32:01Speaker 9: you automatically come back, that's no longer you know how
- 32:04Speaker 9: it works.
- 32:05Speaker 6: There's so many other factors that come into play.
- 32:07Speaker 9: So we were just super fortunate and a little bit
- 32:11Speaker 9: we had some luck on our side too, to canceled. Uncanceled.
- 32:15Speaker 9: Here's season seven, it's gonna be your final season. Wrap
- 32:18Speaker 9: up the storylines, and then we always knew in the
- 32:21Speaker 9: back of our mind that that if we just delivered
- 32:25Speaker 9: a really good season that there might be a chance
- 32:27Speaker 9: that we can come back and do season eight, because
- 32:29Speaker 9: we all wanted toeah and now here we are.
- 32:32Speaker 2: That's so cool. I don't think I've ever I don't
- 32:34Speaker 2: know if I've heard of that happening.
- 32:36Speaker 1: It's happened it feels like an emotional journey.
- 32:39Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
- 32:40Speaker 9: I was just telling a couple of the fans who
- 32:42Speaker 9: I met signing autographs. We thought season seven was our last.
- 32:48Speaker 9: I was getting ready to say my goodbyes to a
- 32:50Speaker 9: show that I've been part of for seven years. So
- 32:53Speaker 9: you know that I was getting stealing myself. I'm not
- 32:55Speaker 9: gonna be emotional. My god, I'm not gonna cry. And
- 32:58Speaker 9: on the last day, I was getting ready to say
- 33:00Speaker 9: Mike goodbyes, and I thought we were done. Samar gets
- 33:04Speaker 9: up in our boxing ring at our HQ at Swat HQ,
- 33:09Speaker 9: and he says, we're coming back, and we're coming back
- 33:11Speaker 9: for twenty two more episodes. And I looked around and
- 33:15Speaker 9: people were in tears. You know.
- 33:18Speaker 4: I looked at Jay.
- 33:20Speaker 9: We're like, I'm like, dude, I've never seen crying before.
- 33:22Speaker 9: You know, we're like crying. We're hugging all of our
- 33:26Speaker 9: crew who love making the show. It meant that they
- 33:28Speaker 9: had jobs for another another year in a time where
- 33:31Speaker 9: it's where it's really tough. As you know, we've dealt
- 33:33Speaker 9: with strikes, pandemics, So it just meant a lot to
- 33:38Speaker 9: a lot of people to come back and that we overcame.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, that's amazing. So now I have a
- 33:45Speaker 2: question going on to a show like SWAT where it's
- 33:48Speaker 2: like physically demanding, yes, how many how much of the
- 33:52Speaker 2: action are you doing? And then I'm assuming they're sun coordinators.
- 33:56Speaker 6: Right, we have stunt coordinators.
- 33:58Speaker 9: We all have stunt double but we do a lot
- 34:02Speaker 9: of our own stunts, and we do a lot of
- 34:05Speaker 9: action in Chamar Jay and myself, the whole cast, we
- 34:09Speaker 9: joke all the time. The acting part is not hard
- 34:11Speaker 9: on SWAT. It's the physicality of the show that's the
- 34:15Speaker 9: most challenging. Because you're in the gear for ten twelve
- 34:19Speaker 9: hours a day. We're doing our own stunts when they allow.
- 34:23Speaker 9: Some stunts are a little dangerous, like when people are
- 34:25Speaker 9: hanging off the side of helicopters and exploding through semis.
- 34:30Speaker 9: They don't let us do that stuff. We leave that
- 34:33Speaker 9: to the stunt doubles and the pros, but we do
- 34:36Speaker 9: a lot. Of us are former athletes, so we're capable
- 34:38Speaker 9: of doing our own action and chase sequences and tackles
- 34:42Speaker 9: and takedowns and fight scenes, and as actors, you can
- 34:46Speaker 9: always tell, like when you're stunt double on the final
- 34:49Speaker 9: cut I'm like, that's clearly my stunt double, you know,
- 34:52Speaker 9: so none of us want that, you know. But then
- 34:55Speaker 9: ten to fifteen takes into the fight sequence when you're like,
- 35:00Speaker 9: you hurt you, you banged up your knee, you accidentally
- 35:03Speaker 9: got hit in one of the takes. You know, the
- 35:06Speaker 9: gear is super heavy. Then you're like, Okay, maybe I
- 35:09Speaker 9: should have left this one to the to the double.
- 35:11Speaker 9: But we're just all we all love doing it. And
- 35:13Speaker 9: so but to answer your question, yes, we do a
- 35:16Speaker 9: lot of our own action.
- 35:18Speaker 2: So you have to stay physically in shape.
- 35:20Speaker 1: Yeah, do you train all the time?
- 35:23Speaker 9: We do on our own time. Like we all just
- 35:25Speaker 9: keep in shape and work out. And we know when
- 35:27Speaker 9: we're coming back for a season that it's a grind.
- 35:30Speaker 9: It's twenty two episodes, it's it's out of the year
- 35:35Speaker 9: of filming and there. Once that train starts, it doesn't stop.
- 35:39Speaker 9: So once you start episode one, you're not getting a
- 35:42Speaker 9: break until maybe Christmas, and then you're finishing out the season.
- 35:46Speaker 9: So it's it's really taxing on the body. You got
- 35:49Speaker 9: to make sure you get your sleep, you got to
- 35:50Speaker 9: make sure you're in great physical shape, and then it's
- 35:54Speaker 9: constantly like maintenance throughout the season, you're always nursing some.
- 35:58Speaker 6: Sort of bump or b.
- 36:02Speaker 4: Always.
- 36:03Speaker 6: I mean, if you talk to samar if you get
- 36:05Speaker 6: him in here, ask.
- 36:05Speaker 9: Him what his h his maintenance routine is outside of work,
- 36:10Speaker 9: and you'll get a laundry.
- 36:11Speaker 2: List of It's like a job on top of the job. Yeah,
- 36:16Speaker 2: how do you handle that? Because you're you're married, correct,
- 36:19Speaker 2: how do you handle the balance of relationship in such
- 36:22Speaker 2: a strenuous schedule.
- 36:25Speaker 9: Well, thankfully we get weekends off, so you know, but
- 36:29Speaker 9: usually weekends we're catching up on like the next script
- 36:32Speaker 9: or studying preparing for the next the next week. But
- 36:37Speaker 9: my wife knows that when we're in season, it's just
- 36:40Speaker 9: she's going to get a very tired version of me.
- 36:45Speaker 6: But we always you know, you do what you you you.
- 36:48Speaker 9: You work hard during the week and then you leave
- 36:50Speaker 9: that and then when you have a day off or
- 36:53Speaker 9: you have your weekends, then you you know, you go
- 36:55Speaker 9: do have your personal family time and you know, hang
- 36:58Speaker 9: with the dog and the wife, go on little trips
- 37:01Speaker 9: and stuff.
- 37:02Speaker 1: Our listeners are they're either dating, looking looking for love.
- 37:07Speaker 1: What is something that when you met your wife that
- 37:10Speaker 1: like made her stand out? You were like, I have
- 37:11Speaker 1: to marry her.
- 37:13Speaker 4: Oh, I don't know if I knew that right away.
- 37:15Speaker 2: I wanted to monogamously.
- 37:17Speaker 9: You know what it was. I wasn't looking for to
- 37:21Speaker 9: date and I and I was. I was kind of
- 37:23Speaker 9: newly single at the time. This was gosh uh a
- 37:27Speaker 9: ten years ago now as we've been married for five.
- 37:31Speaker 9: But I wasn't looking for to date or for love
- 37:34Speaker 9: at the time, and I think that's how it how
- 37:37Speaker 9: it happened.
- 37:38Speaker 6: It just kind of organically, you know.
- 37:41Speaker 9: I met somebody and she happened to be amazing, and
- 37:45Speaker 9: we connected and we started hanging out.
- 37:47Speaker 6: And even though I wasn't necessarily looking for a relationship,
- 37:50Speaker 6: I would have.
- 37:51Speaker 9: Been a fool to let her go exactly. And that's
- 37:54Speaker 9: how I knew I wanted to marry her too. I
- 37:56Speaker 9: was like, if I don't want to marry this girl,
- 37:58Speaker 9: like what am I?
- 37:59Speaker 6: What am I looking for?
- 38:01Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 38:01Speaker 1: So it's so interesting because I feel like that's the
- 38:04Speaker 1: that's the thing. Like I feel like everybody when you're dating,
- 38:07Speaker 1: you're like, oh, is this it? Or is there something better?
- 38:10Speaker 1: Like that's always like that question, you know what I mean.
- 38:12Speaker 1: And I feel like when you know, you just know,
- 38:14Speaker 1: you're like that's it.
- 38:15Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, applies to everything in life. Great. You always
- 38:17Speaker 6: think the grass is green?
- 38:18Speaker 2: Yeah, so true.
- 38:19Speaker 6: And sometimes you don't know how good you have until
- 38:22Speaker 6: you you don't have it anymore.
- 38:23Speaker 3: Right.
- 38:24Speaker 2: So y'all met on a modeling shoot correct.
- 38:26Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, not too far from here in Minneapolis, and
- 38:29Speaker 9: we were joking because it was a modeling job for
- 38:33Speaker 9: Macy's that traveled to different cities and the second stop
- 38:36Speaker 9: was Chicago.
- 38:37Speaker 6: So we met in Minneapolis.
- 38:39Speaker 9: Then this show went to Chicago and ended up in
- 38:41Speaker 9: San Francisco in La so we kind of like.
- 38:43Speaker 6: Hung out and we were hanging out.
- 38:46Speaker 9: Yeah, we were at the checking out the Bean downtown,
- 38:49Speaker 9: we were on the bridges, we were you know, hanging
- 38:52Speaker 9: out in all these different cities.
- 38:54Speaker 6: And that's how it started.
- 38:55Speaker 2: Like remember our first date when I took you to
- 38:56Speaker 2: the Bean and she's like that was work.
- 38:59Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, no, but we still reminisce. Even when I
- 39:02Speaker 9: was coming out to Chicago this weekend. I was like, oh,
- 39:04Speaker 9: remember when.
- 39:05Speaker 6: We, you know, Chicago, two years ago.
- 39:08Speaker 2: So were you acting before I mean sorry, were you
- 39:10Speaker 2: modeling before you got into acting? Was it all cohesively together?
- 39:14Speaker 6: Kind of kind of cohesively together?
- 39:15Speaker 9: I always knew I wanted to be an actor acting,
- 39:19Speaker 9: it just was harder to get jobs.
- 39:21Speaker 6: At the beginning.
- 39:22Speaker 9: I was like, oh, you got to study and actually
- 39:24Speaker 9: this will you have to skill. You have to get
- 39:26Speaker 9: good at this thing before you can get some jobs.
- 39:29Speaker 9: And so in while I was training to become an
- 39:32Speaker 9: actor and in class I was, I was getting some
- 39:35Speaker 9: modeling jobs and doing some commercials. And I feel like
- 39:38Speaker 9: that's kind of how a lot of works. Because a
- 39:40Speaker 9: lot of the guys I was coming up with who
- 39:42Speaker 9: were modeling, we all wanted.
- 39:43Speaker 6: To be actors.
- 39:46Speaker 9: It just it's it's a long I think it's a
- 39:48Speaker 9: longer journey, yeah, to find steady work as an actor, right.
- 39:53Speaker 2: Well, I also feel like there's so many people that
- 39:55Speaker 2: are in the modeling industry and you act, like you said,
- 39:58Speaker 2: acting you have to study and stuff. But I actually
- 40:00Speaker 2: think modeling seems very complicated too, Like not everyone can
- 40:04Speaker 2: just model, you know.
- 40:05Speaker 9: Yeah, no, my wife has done it since she was
- 40:09Speaker 9: fifteen years old, and she's traveled the world and she's
- 40:13Speaker 9: very experienced. And yes, modeling is it's a superficial industry.
- 40:17Speaker 9: It's a lot of it's how you look nowadays, it's
- 40:20Speaker 9: a little different I think they're more open.
- 40:22Speaker 6: Yeah, but it is. It is a skill.
- 40:25Speaker 9: It is a business, and you have to you know,
- 40:28Speaker 9: get experience, and you have to you know, you have
- 40:32Speaker 9: to to learn how to It's not easy to just
- 40:35Speaker 9: she makes it look easy to do all these like poses.
- 40:38Speaker 6: And walk the runway. That's a skill.
- 40:41Speaker 9: So I tell her all the time, I'm like, your
- 40:43Speaker 9: name you you crush it. You have experience, like you've
- 40:46Speaker 9: done it all.
- 40:48Speaker 2: So how does she handle it? So? Is she an
- 40:50Speaker 2: actress or she strictly modeling?
- 40:52Speaker 4: She just models? Okay, except when she runs my lines
- 40:55Speaker 4: with me?
- 40:55Speaker 2: Okay, which is important.
- 40:58Speaker 6: You need it very important.
- 40:59Speaker 9: You, me and Runner need somebody to run those lines,
- 41:01Speaker 9: you know, because when you look at it yourself, for like,
- 41:04Speaker 9: nothing nothing sinks in But when you read it with somebody,
- 41:08Speaker 9: all of a sudden everything makes sense.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Yeah. So does she when you come to things like
- 41:12Speaker 2: this and people are like or just being an actor
- 41:14Speaker 2: in general, and people falling in love with your character
- 41:17Speaker 2: and girls, you know, commenting on your Instagram and DM
- 41:21Speaker 2: and you does she how does has that been weird
- 41:23Speaker 2: for her at all?
- 41:23Speaker 4: Or is she just like not gig?
- 41:25Speaker 9: No, she understands it, you know, She's modeled for years,
- 41:32Speaker 9: so she understands the industry.
- 41:35Speaker 6: She's a pro.
- 41:36Speaker 9: You know. She's also European, so she's not as like uptight,
- 41:39Speaker 9: I feel like, as as as some Americans might be.
- 41:43Speaker 9: She's like, oh yeah, cool, all right, you know whatever. Yeah,
- 41:45Speaker 9: you gotta kiss a girl on set today.
- 41:46Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, I'm just gonna take your credit card.
- 41:50Speaker 4: I'm just gonna take your credit card. I'll go to rodeo.
- 41:53Speaker 2: You know, nice little trade off back you get to
- 41:57Speaker 2: kiss another girl. We're both happy.
- 41:59Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, yeah, but we know she knows like we're
- 42:03Speaker 9: I'm a pro, been doing it for a long time.
- 42:06Speaker 9: And like she and I, we got so much love
- 42:08Speaker 9: for each other, and we trust each other and love
- 42:10Speaker 9: each other so much that it's like, yeah, go go
- 42:13Speaker 9: do your thing and then you know, and then come home.
- 42:15Speaker 1: Yeah, the special special lady.
- 42:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it is yeah, very confident and also Yalla, the
- 42:21Speaker 2: way you speak about her, it seems like Yelberry. There's
- 42:24Speaker 2: a lot of trust and love and just respect for
- 42:26Speaker 2: each other.
- 42:26Speaker 9: Yeah, trust, love and respect. If you have that, everything
- 42:29Speaker 9: else is easy.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Okay, before we go, what is your toxic trait? Not traumatic?
- 42:35Speaker 2: This is not chirpy, but more like like I'm always late,
- 42:38Speaker 2: Tanya doesn't have I won't have a.
- 42:40Speaker 9: Job if I Yeah, toxic, Uh trade, that is a
- 42:46Speaker 9: good one.
- 42:46Speaker 6: That's a that's a tough.
- 42:47Speaker 2: Tough What does your wife nag you about? Not nag,
- 42:51Speaker 2: but what does she say, like you do this?
- 42:53Speaker 1: Like do you pile the trash up before every any
- 42:56Speaker 1: last crime?
- 42:58Speaker 6: A clean dude, I and help her clean around.
- 43:03Speaker 4: This is a tough one. I need some more examples.
- 43:05Speaker 2: Someone said they get they turn into a monster when
- 43:07Speaker 2: they're hungry. They eat too much, to the point where
- 43:12Speaker 2: you know, there's they're like, I eat too much.
- 43:15Speaker 1: I had a lot of heart spatial awareness. I like
- 43:17Speaker 1: to be really close to people.
- 43:19Speaker 4: No, that's something I know. There's some stuff.
- 43:23Speaker 1: You're perfect. No toxic trade.
- 43:25Speaker 4: No, I know toxic.
- 43:27Speaker 6: Maybe toxic is extreme.
- 43:29Speaker 2: You know an annoying trade?
- 43:32Speaker 6: Annoying trade?
- 43:34Speaker 7: Uh?
- 43:35Speaker 2: Do you leave your shaving clippings and the toenail clippings
- 43:38Speaker 2: in the same buy.
- 43:39Speaker 6: My nails there it is. Yeah, I've been doing it
- 43:42Speaker 6: for years. Yeah, by them all the time.
- 43:46Speaker 3: We got it.
- 43:49Speaker 7: Knew it.
- 43:50Speaker 9: I knew it, and my wife will catch me just
- 43:51Speaker 9: like stop that stopping. Since I was a kid, I
- 43:55Speaker 9: don't know how to stop.
- 43:56Speaker 2: Well, thank you so much for taking time.
- 43:58Speaker 1: Yes, thank you so much.
- 43:59Speaker 2: Really appreciate fun today.
- 44:03Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 44:18Speaker 2: All Right, everybody, we have Colin Donald. Yeah, welcome. I
- 44:24Speaker 2: love it. Okay, So you and Tanya actually go back
- 44:30Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 44:31Speaker 7: Oh my gosh.
- 44:32Speaker 1: It was a long time ago at iHeart Festival.
- 44:36Speaker 7: Oh oh boy.
- 44:40Speaker 1: So I had just gone through like a really bad breakup,
- 44:43Speaker 1: like like heartbroken, like devastated, and I was like at
- 44:48Speaker 1: this point where I was like I'm never gonna have
- 44:49Speaker 1: fun again. Like I just was like you know that
- 44:51Speaker 1: phase when you go through a breakup and you're like
- 44:53Speaker 1: I don't want to look at a guy, I hate
- 44:54Speaker 1: them all, like that type of thing. And then I
- 44:57Speaker 1: went to the festival and I met you, and you
- 44:59Speaker 1: were like my gateway and to be like I can.
- 45:02Speaker 4: Do this again.
- 45:03Speaker 2: This is all I wanted from this. This was all
- 45:06Speaker 2: I want.
- 45:07Speaker 10: Oh I'm so glad there's not video on this podcast.
- 45:11Speaker 4: Well that is uh, it's good to see you.
- 45:16Speaker 1: It got me back into the like I can do
- 45:18Speaker 1: this again.
- 45:18Speaker 2: I know she's engaged.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Yeah, thank you.
- 45:22Speaker 3: Wow.
- 45:23Speaker 10: Yeah, that was an unexpected start to this interview.
- 45:28Speaker 3: I did not.
- 45:31Speaker 2: To get out of the way because I saw the
- 45:32Speaker 2: photo and I was like, wow, we have to talk
- 45:35Speaker 2: about this is so fun, and I go.
- 45:37Speaker 1: I told Beck, I was like, I guarantee you he's
- 45:39Speaker 1: not gonna remember because this was so long ago. It
- 45:42Speaker 1: was my gateway. It was like, that was my that
- 45:45Speaker 1: was my my launch pad into like back into life.
- 45:50Speaker 2: You're the reason she's engaged.
- 45:51Speaker 1: Basically, I have you to think.
- 45:53Speaker 4: All right, hero, all right, anyway, work stuff.
- 46:03Speaker 10: I'm sure that I am bright red, calmly.
- 46:12Speaker 7: It's like a sneak attack. It is amazing.
- 46:14Speaker 1: It was so I mean, it's just I can't explain
- 46:17Speaker 1: to you kind of the season of life that I
- 46:20Speaker 1: was in, you know what I mean, Like it was
- 46:22Speaker 1: I get it. Yeah, I'm sure everybody gets it.
- 46:24Speaker 2: Yeah. I also like my first time ever being blacked
- 46:28Speaker 2: out on the ground was at iHeart Festival, so I
- 46:30Speaker 2: understand the experience of that.
- 46:32Speaker 10: I remember doing an interview there where I I think
- 46:36Speaker 10: I crashed Steven Emmel's interview and said something inane about
- 46:41Speaker 10: wanting to get out and see Pitbull.
- 46:45Speaker 8: It was uh.
- 46:47Speaker 7: Something yeah.
- 46:50Speaker 4: Yeah, Anyhowuck has been on.
- 46:53Speaker 1: The bathroom floor multiple years.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I heard festival brings out either the best, best,
- 46:58Speaker 2: or worse.
- 46:58Speaker 10: You just I don't know if it's fine lines, it's
- 47:00Speaker 10: Vegas and apparently this thing that happened in Vegas didn't
- 47:03Speaker 10: stay in Vegas anyhow.
- 47:09Speaker 2: Okay, going into work stuff, Yes, when you're learning a script,
- 47:13Speaker 2: what is harder? What is harder in the in your world?
- 47:17Speaker 2: Is it singing and dancing or learning medical? Because yeah,
- 47:24Speaker 2: go ahead.
- 47:24Speaker 3: No, I was.
- 47:25Speaker 10: It's it's all like learning a language, right, So you know,
- 47:30Speaker 10: once you get into the rhythm of learning those learning
- 47:34Speaker 10: steps and songs, then you get more and more practice
- 47:37Speaker 10: at it, and you like, you flex the muscle a
- 47:39Speaker 10: little bit more, and it becomes a little bit more
- 47:41Speaker 10: second nature. And that was the same thing when I
- 47:43Speaker 10: started doing Med. That first season was like being shot
- 47:47Speaker 10: out of a cannon and yeah, sure, I know what
- 47:49Speaker 10: anything means, and you're just doing it phonetically. And then
- 47:52Speaker 10: as you get more comfortable with it, and luckily we
- 47:55Speaker 10: just have we've got professionals, actual doctors and consultants on
- 48:01Speaker 10: the show that helps through that sort of thing, so
- 48:04Speaker 10: it becomes easier. But you know, when you first start
- 48:07Speaker 10: doing that stuff, I mean, I think if somebody were
- 48:09Speaker 10: to try to teach me to dance right now, I'd
- 48:11Speaker 10: be like, no, I'm good, I'm just gonna stand here.
- 48:15Speaker 10: Everybody else can dance around me.
- 48:16Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, You're like, I feel more comfortable not dancing. Yeah,
- 48:19Speaker 2: So please let them do the work.
- 48:21Speaker 1: How many months of the year do you shoot?
- 48:25Speaker 10: Golly, we would for Chicago ed twenty two episodes. The
- 48:29Speaker 10: season takes about ten months. That is, so you're like
- 48:32Speaker 10: you're deep into it for like nine or ten months
- 48:34Speaker 10: a year. That's that's generally how long like a twenty
- 48:39Speaker 10: two episode network television show takes.
- 48:41Speaker 2: But that's the goal.
- 48:42Speaker 1: Like a lot of people, I feel like a lot
- 48:43Speaker 1: of actors have shows and things where they go like
- 48:46Speaker 1: they do it in two months, three months, and then
- 48:48Speaker 1: they're back, And I feel like that's the goals to
- 48:50Speaker 1: have something that's like steady that many episodes.
- 48:52Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, it's an amazing gift when it can happen,
- 48:55Speaker 10: and it doesn't happen as much anymore. You see television
- 48:57Speaker 10: now is mostly like ten twelve episode or even shorter sometimes,
- 49:02Speaker 10: and it's great to have that kind of steady gig
- 49:04Speaker 10: go on for you know. I did over eighty some
- 49:07Speaker 10: odd episodes of Chicago med over the four and a
- 49:11Speaker 10: sliver of a season that I was there in five
- 49:14Speaker 10: and it was awesome, Like I wouldn't change it for
- 49:16Speaker 10: the world, and it's and then I've gone off to
- 49:18Speaker 10: do like you know, I shot a show that was
- 49:20Speaker 10: ten episodes over seven months, and it's just a different,
- 49:24Speaker 10: different kind of experience.
- 49:25Speaker 7: But the.
- 49:31Speaker 10: Grind, for less of a better word, of doing twenty
- 49:35Speaker 10: two episodes so quickly and just getting into the rhythm
- 49:38Speaker 10: of that. You see how hard these crews work to
- 49:41Speaker 10: make that happen week after week we shoot an episode
- 49:44Speaker 10: in eight days and to do that for all those
- 49:49Speaker 10: moving parts to work in unison to make that happen
- 49:52Speaker 10: is really inspiring. And it's what a lot of people
- 49:55Speaker 10: don't see as watchers of television. They don't see all
- 50:00Speaker 10: those names on the credits going to work. Yeah, it's
- 50:04Speaker 10: these things don't get made unless all of those people
- 50:07Speaker 10: come together and believe in a show that can get
- 50:11Speaker 10: to the screen after eight days of shooting in a
- 50:14Speaker 10: little bit of time after to edit and you know,
- 50:17Speaker 10: make it all glue together.
- 50:18Speaker 1: And what is it like when you're at conventions like
- 50:20Speaker 1: this one, Like when you actually get to see the
- 50:22Speaker 1: fans meet the fans get the bracelets from the fans.
- 50:28Speaker 10: It's it's it's amazing because you know, coming from theater,
- 50:32Speaker 10: there is an access to the people you're watching on stage.
- 50:35Speaker 10: You know, we come out of the stage door after
- 50:37Speaker 10: the show and there's fans that are lined up outside
- 50:40Speaker 10: of the stage door that we get to interact with.
- 50:42Speaker 10: And you get that immediate response when you're on stage.
- 50:44Speaker 10: You get people applauding for you at the end of
- 50:46Speaker 10: the show and hopefully standing or whatever it is. And
- 50:51Speaker 10: it's fun that places like this, events like this exist
- 50:55Speaker 10: because then we get to actually, you know, connect with
- 51:00Speaker 10: people who have connected with our work.
- 51:04Speaker 7: That we wouldn't otherwise get to know.
- 51:06Speaker 10: Like you know, I've had so many stories over the
- 51:09Speaker 10: years of doing these types of conventions.
- 51:13Speaker 7: Where shows that have done have provided.
- 51:17Speaker 10: People with, you know, an escape from whatever they were
- 51:20Speaker 10: going through at the time, or helped them work through
- 51:22Speaker 10: something they were going through in their lives. And it's
- 51:25Speaker 10: you know, it's easy sometimes to think about, you know,
- 51:28Speaker 10: I'm just doing another medical show, yeah, or I'm doing
- 51:32Speaker 10: a comic book show. But to somebody who's watching who
- 51:35Speaker 10: really finds something in it that they connect to and
- 51:39Speaker 10: that they love about it, and that they connect to
- 51:41Speaker 10: the character that I'm playing and have them express that
- 51:44Speaker 10: to me, it makes me feel like I'm doing something
- 51:48Speaker 10: that is worthwhile, yeah, which is ultimately what got me
- 51:51Speaker 10: into the business in the first place.
- 51:52Speaker 2: Yeah, because it's like for you and if through the
- 51:55Speaker 2: mundane of going to work every day, you're like, I'm
- 51:57Speaker 2: just showing up for job, right like everyone.
- 51:59Speaker 4: Else sort of, Yes, but it is a job at
- 52:01Speaker 4: the end of the.
- 52:02Speaker 1: Days like a box you're doing it in like a
- 52:06Speaker 1: like a bubble, you know. So it's like to see it,
- 52:08Speaker 1: to see the fans. That's like, that's what you're doing
- 52:11Speaker 1: it for.
- 52:11Speaker 7: Yeah, to see Yeah.
- 52:12Speaker 10: And and ultimately, I mean you're right, like, we don't
- 52:15Speaker 10: do this if it weren't for the fans. Like you know, art,
- 52:19Speaker 10: to me, art doesn't exist in a vacuum, right, It's
- 52:21Speaker 10: meant to be seen and experienced by people, whatever your
- 52:25Speaker 10: medium is. So it's it's really great to be able
- 52:29Speaker 10: to get that sort of feedback at the end of
- 52:31Speaker 10: the day and to to know that what you're putting
- 52:34Speaker 10: out into the world is being appreciated and sometimes taken
- 52:38Speaker 10: really to heart.
- 52:39Speaker 2: Yeah, do you when you come to these things, is
- 52:44Speaker 2: it do you have a reaction from different parts of
- 52:47Speaker 2: your career where people are like, I know, I love
- 52:51Speaker 2: you from you know X Yeah.
- 52:52Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean there's there's some people who
- 52:55Speaker 10: have you know, been watching me from the time that
- 52:57Speaker 10: I was on Arrow.
- 52:59Speaker 7: Uh, people who.
- 53:00Speaker 10: Have you know, really followed my career from uh, from
- 53:04Speaker 10: the beginnings of it, whether it was zero or even
- 53:07Speaker 10: before that, whether if they were fans of Broadway and
- 53:12Speaker 10: musical theater who knew me from either seeing me on
- 53:14Speaker 10: Broadway or listening to me on on cast recordings that
- 53:17Speaker 10: I've done.
- 53:19Speaker 7: Uh.
- 53:19Speaker 10: And it's it's a really flattering thing to have somebody
- 53:23Speaker 10: follow you in your career. Yeah, as you've grown up yourself,
- 53:28Speaker 10: I mean, and you know, gotten to play different characters
- 53:30Speaker 10: and maybe they tuned into the next show you did
- 53:34Speaker 10: because they loved you in the previous.
- 53:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 53:36Speaker 7: And it's it's awesome.
- 53:38Speaker 2: I know, it's so cool. It's fun. We were saying,
- 53:40Speaker 2: like people fall in love with the first project they
- 53:42Speaker 2: see you in and then they get there like I
- 53:44Speaker 2: want it wherever he goes, I'm gonna I'm gonna watch. Yeah.
- 53:48Speaker 2: We were just talking to Skylar and we were talking
- 53:51Speaker 2: we do episodes because we have a lot of listeners
- 53:54Speaker 2: who are in the dating scene or married or single,
- 53:58Speaker 2: and we like to ask the man. It's called our
- 54:01Speaker 2: mannal where we ask. It's our paneling, it's our man panel.
- 54:05Speaker 7: A panel of one.
- 54:06Speaker 2: Yeah, you're a standalone right now, and we wanted we
- 54:12Speaker 2: just like to get advice on, like, you know, from
- 54:15Speaker 2: a male's perspective. And you've been married for what nine years?
- 54:19Speaker 7: Nine years now? Yeah, just my ninth. We get two
- 54:22Speaker 7: beautiful kids.
- 54:24Speaker 2: What was it about her? Like, what was it that
- 54:28Speaker 2: stood out that you were like this?
- 54:30Speaker 10: She's so my beautiful, insanely talented wife. Her name is
- 54:36Speaker 10: Patty Miern. We'd known each other for years before we
- 54:40Speaker 10: ever started dating, actually, and we did after I was
- 54:44Speaker 10: killed off of Arrow. I was just out of relationship
- 54:49Speaker 10: myself and she was recently divorced and she had a
- 54:53Speaker 10: rehouse warming party because she kept the apartment from the
- 54:57Speaker 10: from the divorce, and we were about to start rehearsals
- 55:02Speaker 10: for Shakespeare in the Park the next day that we
- 55:03Speaker 10: were doing a show together, and I don't know, I
- 55:08Speaker 10: showed up and I just had a great time talking
- 55:12Speaker 10: to her and was remembering all these times that like
- 55:15Speaker 10: she'd made me laugh and how easy it was to
- 55:19Speaker 10: hang out with her, and so I was the last
- 55:22Speaker 10: one to leave the party. We kissed, I went home,
- 55:25Speaker 10: and the next day I was sort of like, oh,
- 55:28Speaker 10: I think this is something. And I really was like
- 55:32Speaker 10: I was all in I pretty quickly because there was
- 55:35Speaker 10: just something I don't know if I can put it
- 55:39Speaker 10: to one thing that made it clear. But the more
- 55:43Speaker 10: we hung out and the more we were around each other,
- 55:47Speaker 10: it was really I just was head over heels and
- 55:53Speaker 10: I was like, I want you to be a part
- 55:54Speaker 10: of my life.
- 55:55Speaker 1: I feel like humor is what I heard.
- 55:57Speaker 2: I know that's an takeaway.
- 56:00Speaker 10: It was a really big thing. Like for me, somebody
- 56:03Speaker 10: somebody who would laugh at my jokes. Yeah, could really
- 56:06Speaker 10: like make me belly laugh in a way that I
- 56:08Speaker 10: hadn't really before.
- 56:10Speaker 4: Yeah, And like we knew each other's.
- 56:14Speaker 10: Hang ups, so, you know, having been friends before and
- 56:19Speaker 10: moving forward in a relationship, it was kind of nice
- 56:21Speaker 10: to have somebody be able to call you out on
- 56:23Speaker 10: your things.
- 56:24Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 56:25Speaker 2: Why So y'all met after Era. So she and she's
- 56:28Speaker 2: in the industry.
- 56:29Speaker 7: She is, she's an actor, Okay.
- 56:31Speaker 2: So she's very she understands the role. I have a girlfriend,
- 56:35Speaker 2: and she is in the industry, and I struggle with
- 56:39Speaker 2: the uh, just the elements that come along with it
- 56:43Speaker 2: of like, you know, kissing other people, just all the things.
- 56:48Speaker 2: But I always feel like it'd be so much easier
- 56:50Speaker 2: if I was also an actor, or does it not?
- 56:53Speaker 7: Yeah, I think that there there is a there's just
- 56:58Speaker 7: stuff that has.
- 56:58Speaker 10: To be worked through, and uh, you know, certainly we
- 57:03Speaker 10: have worked through our own things to be able to
- 57:06Speaker 10: be in a place where we're comfortable with, you know,
- 57:09Speaker 10: the realities of what we do right. And we've done
- 57:12Speaker 10: projects together and weirdly enough, never played opposite each other
- 57:16Speaker 10: in those projects a lot of times, like so, you know,
- 57:20Speaker 10: we did this Hallmark movie Love on Iceland together, but
- 57:24Speaker 10: we weren't paired up in the movie. So I'm off
- 57:27Speaker 10: kissing and she's, you know, is just there. It's just weird. Yeah,
- 57:34Speaker 10: I mean, there's.
- 57:34Speaker 6: No other way to describe it.
- 57:36Speaker 7: It's a weird situation.
- 57:38Speaker 10: Yeah, but you know, it's it is the job.
- 57:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:42Speaker 2: I feel validated hearing that, though, because everyone's you know,
- 57:46Speaker 2: we talked to other and they're like, well, you know,
- 57:47Speaker 2: they're in an industry, they get it, and I'm like,
- 57:49Speaker 2: it's just an unnatural thing. To watch her the person
- 57:52Speaker 2: you love.
- 57:52Speaker 7: Yeah, try explaining it's a kids.
- 57:54Speaker 2: Eventually, that's a whole other thing.
- 57:58Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean Patty was Patty was Princess Anna and
- 58:03Speaker 10: Frozen on Broadway, and like we've showed our Uh. We
- 58:07Speaker 10: have a four year old daughter who's old enough to
- 58:09Speaker 10: understand it. But she's like, well, why are you kissing
- 58:12Speaker 10: that guy? And I was like, not the conversation I
- 58:14Speaker 10: have right now. Yeah, why can't I see daddy do stuff? Well,
- 58:18Speaker 10: because daddy doesn't do stuff that is appropriate for kids
- 58:20Speaker 10: your age.
- 58:22Speaker 7: Daddy's not a Disney prince. He does the darker role.
- 58:26Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 58:26Speaker 2: Yeah, before we go, what is your toxic trait?
- 58:31Speaker 7: My toxic trait.
- 58:33Speaker 2: Lighthearted, like I'm always late.
- 58:35Speaker 10: Oh uh, I'm quiet.
- 58:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 58:42Speaker 10: My toxic trait is that I will sit in the
- 58:44Speaker 10: background of like I'll be happy to like just sit
- 58:48Speaker 10: in the corner.
- 58:49Speaker 1: Interesting party going on, that's interesting for an actor.
- 58:53Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm I'm.
- 58:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 58:56Speaker 7: It takes me a while to warm up, usually.
- 58:59Speaker 2: Takes you all and warm up. Well, but that's that's
- 59:01Speaker 2: your That's not very toxic. But if that's it, then
- 59:07Speaker 2: congrats to your wife.
- 59:08Speaker 4: If that's your I'm sure she probably has quiet.
- 59:16Speaker 1: Thank you so much for being here.
- 59:19Speaker 2: Hope you have a great day to day and enjoy
- 59:21Speaker 2: meeting all the fans.
- 59:22Speaker 4: Thank you,
