- 1:53gillathletics.com, on Twitter, we're at Gill Athletics and I
- 1:58think on Instagram we're at Gill Athletics or maybe Gill
- 2:00Athletics 1918. Not real sure.
- 2:16Hey guys. All right, we're getting ready
- 2:04here for our next guest. I knew I had at least one more
- 2:06person that would sit in the hot seat for us today.
- 2:09Here, man. Put your headphones on.
- 2:11Scoot on out. We're doing an airplane style,
- 2:13man. I know you ain't shot.
- 2:14Nice. Introduce yourself to our
- 2:15audience here. How you doing?
- 2:17I'm Jake Wilks. I'm the national director here
- 2:19for Firefly Recovery. We are recovery device mainly
- 2:22used to keep the legs fresh. It's pretty important to track
- 2:25and field. So tell me what does that mean?
- 2:28What is fire? Is it a?
- 2:29Is it a treadmill? Is it a drink?
- 2:32What is Firefly? So Firefly is a wearable
- 2:34technology. It is basically an enemy S
- 2:37device, which is a STEM. It was actually developed as a
- 2:41medical device. The medical version is called
- 2:43the Gecko. Yep.
- 2:45And Firefly is just the over the counter version of the
- 2:47technology. But the technology is actually
- 2:50developed to displace compression boots in the surgery
- 2:52centers. So a lot of times when patients
- 2:55have little shimby surgery, they sit home with.
- 2:58SCD sleeves or IPC sleeves, which are just pneumatic
- 3:01compression classes. They're sitting home with those
- 3:04devices because it's going to help prevent blood clots and
- 3:06reduce swelling post surgery. The issue in the medical space
- 3:09is that most people don't want to be stuck in compression boots
- 3:12for 24 hours post surgery. So our device was developed to
- 3:17help provide a better patient friendly option that was more
- 3:21wearable on the go, easy to use. The science behind is basically
- 3:25by stimulating what's called the coronial nerve, that nerve
- 3:28starts at the top of the hips, goes down to the toes, right?
- 3:30Right. When you comfortably stimulate
- 3:32that nerve, it causes your foot to flutter or to dance.
- 3:34So you start getting this little foot tick.
- 3:36And that foot tick, the mechanic of moving your foot actually
- 3:39moves blood back to the heart, similar to walking.
- 3:42So clinical research shows that by stimulating the coronial
- 3:45nerve. With our technology, it's called
- 3:47the on pulse, basically the patent on the stem that runs the
- 3:51fire climb together. When you stimulate that nerve,
- 3:53it actually increases low extremity blood flow from hip to
- 3:56toe by 400% compared to compression which is 117.
- 4:01And I'll assume that blood flow is pretty important for track
- 4:04and field. Athletes, blood flow is good.
- 4:05I mean, I. Asked the real easy softball
- 4:08questions here. Blood flow is the key.
- 4:11Well, sleeping nutrition obviously, which hopefully.
- 4:14Your college athletes know that they usually don't.
- 4:16I'm. Sure, they know that there's no
- 4:19way in doing, you know. The good thing you know about
- 4:23this technology that we have in, you know, I played running back
- 4:27in college, so. Under what school I was.
- 4:29At Sanford University, go Bulldogs, No.
- 4:31No, not go Bulldogs. No, no Bulldogs I.
- 4:33Went to Troy University. Oh, OK.
- 4:35I thought we have the greatest robber reads.
- 4:37It's not that we don't be real frank with you, but but you
- 4:40know, being in the same state, not being Alvin Wolver.
- 4:43So, OK. Do you have any children?
- 4:45I have a six month old what did? Boy or girl?
- 4:47It's a boy. What did you name him?
- 4:48His name is Cayman, OK? Yeah, so I have a just turned 12
- 4:52year old. Guess what his name is?
- 4:54Troy. Troy Yeah.
- 4:55Yeah. So I feel like I'm the better
- 4:57alum for my school. I'm just saying.
- 4:59I can't name my son Sanford. I guess you could Sam Ford and
- 5:03your last name. Sanford Wilkes.
- 5:05Dude, that actually pretty good, doesn't it?
- 5:07Hey, it's not too late. You say six months old.
- 5:09Well, yeah, no, you can change that.
- 5:10I'm sure we'll have enough after we're done here.
- 5:11Call call Mom. Let's get that done.
- 5:15But no, Stanford grade school, honestly.
- 5:16And really, you know you played football right back there.
- 5:19Really great football team and maybe maybe the maybe the most
- 5:25beautiful campus. It is an amazing.
- 5:28An amazing campus. Amazing professors, amazing
- 5:30sports. Had a great time there.
- 5:32Loved it. Our track and field programs
- 5:35obviously really got it and you know, it's been fun.
- 5:39Now a lot of the same for sports.
- 5:41Use my technology so it's fun. To get back.
- 5:43So tell me more about that Dick, you said your technology how are
- 5:46you our technology. Yeah sure.
- 5:48Sure. How are you and the company?
- 5:49Where how did Mum be joined and? Yes, I was employee number one
- 5:52four years ago. So our founder actually brought
- 5:55the medical version of the technology.
- 5:58To the US and became the sole distributor for the Gecko.
- 6:01Anthony Gentheds, our founder. He's been in the medical
- 6:03distribution space for about 20-7 years.
- 6:05He's the one that kind of found the need for more wearable
- 6:08portable option for his patients because they were complaining so
- 6:11much about wearing compression post surgery.
- 6:14So our technology is about the size of a wristwatch.
- 6:16So I was. Going to have.
- 6:18I'm trying to get a visual here. It's basically looks like a
- 6:20sticker that you put right around the knee.
- 6:22That stem will stimulate the nerve and that's what creates
- 6:26the systemic blood flow. So instead of passively, if
- 6:29anybody's familiar with compression, usually that's
- 6:31norm. Detect recovery pump in your
- 6:33body. Any type of compression booth
- 6:35that's massaging and squeezing that blood to get that
- 6:37lymphatic. You're actually putting action
- 6:39into it. We're actively in dynamically
- 6:42moving blood using your bodies on the candidates, so the main
- 6:45way we're being used by our athletes is when you're flying
- 6:47and you're traveling on buses. These are really easy devices.
- 6:51You can pack 50 pairs in a duffel bag and your whole team
- 6:54can, you know, have their own unit.
- 6:55On so it's wearable. Is it reusable or is it like a
- 6:58like bandage? You get a box, yeah.
- 7:00It's reusable, so it's got an adhesive gel.
- 7:02You just take that on and off the baggage treatment.
- 7:04Most of our athletes will wear it for about 1 to 4 hours
- 7:07because our technology is patented for the nervous system.
- 7:11Unlike other traditional muscle stems, you don't have to worry
- 7:13about muscle to fatigue. Remember, stimulate the muscle.
- 7:16Group. So it's a really easy, you know.
- 7:19I guess going back to an athlete's.
- 7:21It's an effortless recovery tool that you can use on the go.
- 7:24You don't have to be sitting in a booth or sitting in a chair.
- 7:27You can actually. Be mobile you can be doing.
- 7:29Things So a lot of our track and field programs, especially NCA.
- 7:32I know Dustin Williams at BYU, a good friend of mine.
- 7:35They're big. Believers in it, Texas a couple
- 7:37of years. He's a.
- 7:38Great deal, amazing guy, but a couple of great programs have
- 7:41really found. Tremendous benefit and having on
- 7:43the go tool that athletes can utilize in and outside of the
- 7:47athletic training room cuz I think there's a need for
- 7:50athletes recovering more than just one treatment a.
- 7:53Week in the. 18 room so especially for runners that are
- 7:56always fatigued. Just an easy quick.
- 7:59Way to flush the the body and get reoctionated that's.
- 8:02Cool. So besides being here at the
- 8:04USTCCC convention, people can go go see the booth, maybe even get
- 8:08to try it out. We're for our listeners and this
- 8:10is going to be on podcast throughout the year 2023.
- 8:12Where can people find out more about Firefly?
- 8:14Yeah, our website is very good resource.
- 8:16It's just www.recoveryfirefly.com.

- 8:26filled with, you know, our athletes and our athletic.
- 8:29Trainers and our sports teams that also provide a lot of good
- 8:33applications of use and provide a good visual.
- 8:38Cuz I know when you're just listening to a podcast it's sure
- 8:40to picture what it's like. But visually, if you go to our
- 8:43website or Instagram, it's pretty simple to find.
