- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts. Right now, welcome back to the
- 0:16Three O Take presented by Seek Geek.
- 0:17This is episode four 110. I'll be your host, Kyle Corn.
- 0:22I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes and Nate.
- 0:31You know they don't tell you when when you decide to
- 0:36transition into baldness. They don't tell you about
- 0:40certain things to look out for. You know, they just don't
- 0:45mention it to you. They don't mention that if you
- 0:48wear your hat backwards and you have this weird like snapback
- 0:54poofy flap thing. No, there's more.
- 0:58Focus on it, because there's no hair.
- 1:00No, no, no, no there that you've got that going on because you
- 1:05got a small noggin. I'm looking at the the snapback
- 1:07strap and you're Are you full? Are you?
- 1:10Are you you're? Full There's one more.
- 1:12There's one more dot. Yeah, yeah, you.
- 1:17Got that thing on there, nice and snug.
- 1:19You got a small noggin. Man, this is I could go.
- 1:21I could go the whole way if I wanted to.
- 1:23That well, that's why it's all all your your slack is up here.
- 1:27I was. I was big.
- 1:29Melon like me. I was 7 and 1/4 with hair, so
- 1:34yeah. So that makes sense.
- 1:35Hell yeah. Yeah, you do.
- 1:39That makes sense. Also if you're not watching on
- 1:41YouTube. Figured out.
- 1:42It's huge. Well, I'm glad you brought
- 1:45YouTube up because I was thinking as you can see here,
- 1:48rocking the ASU hat. It's such a clean hat too.
- 1:51Oh, it's such a clean hat. The the vintage.
- 1:57I was thinking a lot this week or this past week about the trip
- 2:01to to Phoenix last year, the World Baseball Classic.
- 2:04It was getting me in the mood for some baseball.
- 2:06It's insane that it's almost been a year.
- 2:09I know, dude. Insane.
- 2:11I know. And so I was just, it was
- 2:16getting me. It was getting me there.
- 2:18It was getting me closer to being like, I hate to say this
- 2:22as a Red Sox fan, but I'm I'm close to being full throttle
- 2:25here with with baseball. I'm feeling it.
- 2:28And I'll be honest, it wasn't really until probably this
- 2:31episode because as as we very well know, the offseason can be
- 2:36slow. But, but I'm getting there.
- 2:40And it was a good it was a good reason for me to remind the
- 2:45listeners if you haven't watched the vlog from the World Baseball
- 2:49Classic trip. Honestly, go back to the vlog
- 2:51from our Boston trip too. Yeah.
- 2:56Watch all the vlogs I think I, I don't know the World Baseball
- 3:02Classic I think is our best product that we've we've put
- 3:05together that was. It's a great video, yeah.
- 3:07That was a that was a heck of a week, yeah.
- 3:10But yeah, we are coming up on a year since that trip and we are
- 3:16now under a month until the first spring training came.
- 3:19Absurd How? I don't know.
- 3:23I don't know. I mean you to be fair, you've
- 3:27been you've been a little out of the loop and for good reason.
- 3:31I I don't think me, I don't think anybody can fault you for
- 3:35for why you've been out of the loop, but.
- 3:36If if anybody hears me say a name that is just out of the
- 3:44blue, it doesn't make any sense, or I have something completely
- 3:47wrong, I promise I still pay attention to baseball.
- 3:52I'm getting married in a couple months and it's just been insane
- 3:57planning this thing. It's been insane.
- 4:01So I apologize for whatever Nate you get over the next few
- 4:07months. It's not going to be full Nate.
- 4:09Full die hard Yankee. Nate will not come until
- 4:14probably May post honeymoon. Once I get back from the
- 4:21honeymoon, my sea legs go away from the cruise.
- 4:27I will be back at it. Then you will get the the true
- 4:31fired up, passionate and somewhat half knowledgeable.
- 4:34Nate. This Nate, he's a he's a wild
- 4:38card for sure. Maybe half knowledgeable, but
- 4:42always firing from the hip. There you go.
- 4:44Like always bringing the juice, always bringing the passion.
- 4:46That's that's what Nate. It's the only way I can fire.
- 4:49That's the only way to That's the only way he rolls.
- 4:52We got a voicemail, I believe. I don't always screen these
- 4:57things, but I believe that it's Hall of Fame related.
- 5:00So we're going to transition straight from this into some
- 5:03Hall of Fame talk. But let's let's hope it works
- 5:06here. Let's see what we got.
- 5:08Hey fellas, AJ Torres, it's been a long time and thank you for
- 5:12holding down this. It's been a really dreadful
- 5:16offseason in my opinion, but that's for a topic, another
- 5:19time. As far as the Hall of Fame goes,
- 5:22I really and a buddy of mine and a fan of the show.
- 5:26I know I'm face to face. We thought Joe Mauer was going
- 5:30to get screwed when it came to Hall of Fame.
- 5:32Sure enough, you only need the first year.
- 5:34Which also granted means when Buster Posey's name comes up, oh
- 5:38baby, he's in. Forget about it.
- 5:41So about the Hall of Fame, I don't want to beat the dead
- 5:45horse here, but yeah, do I think Andrew Jones is going to get
- 5:49snubbed? I won't mention the thing of why
- 5:51they want to cancel him and write him off at everything, but
- 5:56as far as these guys, particularly since there was no
- 5:59policies until 2004, I mean, freaking Andy Pettitte was using
- 6:05something prescribed to a doctor that wasn't banned at the time.
- 6:08And if we really want to go by where this all started, some
- 6:13guys in the rumor mill. Now this could be some of the
- 6:16old head Dodger fans I know in the Connecticut area, whatever.
- 6:20But they say that Ted Williams brought greens over after the
- 6:25war and that's where it all started.
- 6:27So basically everyone between Teddy Ball game after World War
- 6:312 to 2004 was taking some sort of substance.
- 6:35But I mean, if it's possible, I mean I want to put the pressure
- 6:39because it's such a ludicrous topic.
- 6:43Where do we draw the line as far as the steroid guys and you put
- 6:47like Asterisk next to the name? Or how do you go about it?
- 6:52Hope everybody's doing well and take it easy later.
- 6:58The ultimate question we try to avoid Oh.
- 7:02Man, Well, let's, let's dive into it, shall we?
- 7:08Look, I had a. Let's start this by saying this
- 7:13is our opinion. Take it however you will.
- 7:17We're not in the freaking committee.
- 7:19We don't vote. I wouldn't.
- 7:23Want to be a part of that circus any.
- 7:24Me neither. Yeah.
- 7:26So continue. I had a rather I don't want to
- 7:35say heated because it's my it's like my my Bible study leader.
- 7:39Oh heated. That's cool.
- 7:41I'm not Yeah. I mean it was like you know
- 7:44we're we're we're just chatting it up about the Hall of Fame.
- 7:47We're in disagreement on a on a handful of items.
- 7:51We specifically were talking about Bonds and his career and
- 7:55legacy and everything that that means.
- 8:00But he I gotta say he got me thinking a little bit He he is
- 8:07of the belief that these guys who used should be allowed to be
- 8:14in all of. And I believe I'm I believe I'm
- 8:16paraphrasing correctly here so forgive me if it if it's
- 8:20incorrect but he is of the belief that these guys should
- 8:23just be let in they should be inducted in the Hall of Fame and
- 8:28that the story about them should be told how it's going to be
- 8:34told. If if people want to view their
- 8:39plaque as a tainted plaque, yeah so be it.
- 8:43But it's the story of the game. It's the story of what happened.
- 8:47Yeah. And he's of the belief that it
- 8:49it does the sport a disservice when you don't have the home run
- 8:55leader you don't have the hits leader so on and so forth in the
- 8:59Hall of Fame. So he he got me thinking a
- 9:02little bit in that regard because for the longest time
- 9:06people have just rammed it down our throats being like well
- 9:09Bonds deserves to be in for this reason or that reason not so
- 9:13much about. I haven't heard as much about or
- 9:18a case being made for the story being told of of the sport,
- 9:22which I mean I can, I can understand and you know it.
- 9:27Maybe if you take that route you, you open up an opportunity
- 9:35for a greater conversation like a greater discourse about that
- 9:40individual or that group of individuals who you know got got
- 9:45dinged with the asterisk. I don't know.
- 9:49I I'm kind of on the fence. You can't really to say to to
- 9:53ask the question well where do you draw the line.
- 9:55You can't. I mean just in the in the in the
- 9:59question that was asked. You've got greenies.
- 10:01You've got stairways. You've got known users.
- 10:04You've got users that were misled.
- 10:07You've got users who knew what they took but they thought it
- 10:11was for something out like you know it's it's all over the
- 10:14place. It's it's it's messy.
- 10:17There's no way to keep it clean and tidy.
- 10:19So I I'm certainly in no position to say, well draw the
- 10:24line here because it's it's way beyond trying to draw a line I
- 10:30think. Yeah, I mean, I I see both sides
- 10:36and I see exactly what he was saying with just like it is the
- 10:39story of baseball. And it's hard to completely
- 10:44ignore not just an era, but huge names, game altering names,
- 10:53sport altering names. It's hard to just sit there and
- 10:57say like you don't exist in this place that's supposed to write
- 11:02the story. It's it's our, it's our Museum
- 11:04of baseball. I don't know how you go about
- 11:08it. I don't know if you have a
- 11:09separate ballot. I don't know what that's called.
- 11:14Is it APED ballot? Is it a cheater ballot?
- 11:17Is it a, you know what I mean? Like, I don't know what that is.
- 11:20It a separate wing in the Hall of Fame.
- 11:24Is it a honorary wing? Is it an honorable mention kind
- 11:30of thing? I don't know.
- 11:32I really don't know. I don't know how to go about it.
- 11:34I think I can understand where people are coming from where
- 11:41they do feel like Barry Bonds and Pete Rose and names like
- 11:47this can't just be crossed off and and we pretend like they
- 11:50never occurred because for all we know those players did have
- 11:59positive effect. You know what I mean?
- 12:02As much negative that we can attach, that we can sit here and
- 12:05say like, well, maybe there was a kid that first started
- 12:10watching ball and fell in love with the game because of Barry
- 12:12Bonds or because of a Rod, because of Andy Pettitte, you
- 12:16know what I mean? Like you, that's what that is.
- 12:19And in my mind, I haven't been to the Hall of Fame.
- 12:22I've never been. I love the idea of taking my
- 12:25kids someday and saying, you know, I'm showing them, you
- 12:31know, a six, 7-8 year old, the story of this game and why it it
- 12:36is what it is. To not have those names there is
- 12:42weird. I can't argue that.
- 12:45I just don't know how it looks. But to sit there and say that
- 12:50they deserve to be in the same conversation, I don't know.
- 12:58I think it's probably best that we create a new conversation
- 13:03instead of just having this one conversation.
- 13:08That's where I'm at with it. Am I going to be upset if
- 13:12there's a new wing or a new separate building created?
- 13:16Do they deserve the ceremony? I don't know.
- 13:19I don't know. I'm not sure.
- 13:26Maybe it's just a a section where they're acknowledged and
- 13:31their names are in there and their plaques are in there.
- 13:33Maybe it's not a ceremony. I don't.
- 13:35Know. But even then, that's messy
- 13:36because you you're talking about known users versus people who
- 13:41allegedly use them. People who never tested
- 13:43positive, but you think they used like it's a whole?
- 13:48It's tough, man. There's no.
- 13:50Way you right. There's no way you can color
- 13:54inside the lines if you will, on on any of these categories that
- 13:58we're looking at between users. Non users allegedly like it's
- 14:01it's just too too chaotic. But honestly, I with the the
- 14:06announcement this past week and everything, this is usually the
- 14:10time of the year where you know it.
- 14:13It's it's this time and the the ceremony time in July that I I
- 14:17really take some time to think about the hall and what it
- 14:22represents. And I don't know man.
- 14:26Sadly I and I really hate to say it cause I've been I've had the
- 14:31the fortune of going there twice and I mean it's a magical place.
- 14:35But I I truly and again sad to say I think I'm at a point now
- 14:41where it's really starting to lose its luster because it's for
- 14:46me it's which I never thought this would be the case.
- 14:49But it's becoming less about the the saga surrounding the users
- 14:54versus or whether or not they should be in or not or whatever.
- 14:59And it's more about the committee and the biases and and
- 15:04the conversations of intentionally leaving guys off
- 15:08to make a political statement or to to stick it to a guy that
- 15:13what that didn't treat the media well which is it.
- 15:17It's becoming so much and I use word early, it's so much of A
- 15:20circus that I just don't even have the same interest that I
- 15:24used to anymore. And it's you'll look at it as
- 15:27I'm not saying everybody but me I'm I'm getting to the point
- 15:30where I'm looking at it as less of a as a an elite club or an
- 15:38institution and more of just like a it's it's like a forum
- 15:46where these these writers come together and they're like all
- 15:49right what what's our what's our hit piece going to be today
- 15:54What's going to be our conversation starter today with.
- 15:57I can't let this guy in because he didn't treat me well in the
- 16:00clubhouse. It's, it's, it's it's all
- 16:03somewhat of a. That to me is more egregious
- 16:09than than what some of these guys have done.
- 16:13Like I know that may that may turn some heads, but to not put
- 16:17a guy in because you felt slighted in the in the locker
- 16:20room. Come on.
- 16:22What are we? And that's where it like I
- 16:24don't. That's where I'm curious to see
- 16:28if voting can can be altered. We talk about this for like the
- 16:33All Star game. You know what I mean?
- 16:35How do we alter voting and what is worth it?
- 16:41And like, is there a way to have a fan vote potentially make up
- 16:51the difference where writers are lacking or vice versa?
- 17:00Maybe it's a new score that needs to be obtained in some
- 17:04type of, you know what I mean? Like, I think things can.
- 17:08The difficulty is that the game has been around so long, the
- 17:11Hall of Fame has been around so long and it's like, how can we
- 17:14change it now? Because this is the way it's
- 17:16been structured. But at the same time, I don't
- 17:20know much history when it comes to this type of stuff and like
- 17:24how guys get in. But what about this committee
- 17:26that was created for the guys that are off the ballot and they
- 17:31get in 40 years later, they're dead and you know their son,
- 17:36right? Like, how when did that come
- 17:38into play and when was that decision made?
- 17:43Can we make adjustments that way to address the other thing, By
- 17:46the way, with the greenies and stuff?
- 17:49I don't. It's too hard to go back.
- 17:51You know what I mean? It's too hard to.
- 17:53We can't rewrite history. We can't go back and and correct
- 17:57things. And I know that's a rumor.
- 17:59I heard those rumors about Hank Aaron as well.
- 18:01It's like, you know, it is what it is.
- 18:04We'll never know. I I think I can probably
- 18:08appreciate a lot of players and former players saying that like
- 18:13this, this game's full of cheaters.
- 18:16That's the whole point. You try to find a way to edge
- 18:19yourself over someone else and it's hard to see how.
- 18:24That's not true. But it's at the same time, me as
- 18:28a fan, me personally, I'm always going to lean my bias towards
- 18:34the guys that did it clean. And you know, I was talking
- 18:40about this yesterday with like I when I was watching football
- 18:44with my father-in-law. It's like you the Ravens are
- 18:47getting blown out and you know they're giving up chunk 1525
- 18:52yard plays and the defender smokes a guy and gets up and
- 18:55flexes and celebrates. It's like, dude, you're down 3
- 18:57scores. Would it?
- 18:59It's it's just, that's how I am. You and I took a while to get
- 19:03over this bat flip era. And even then I'm like, I'm
- 19:06still, I'm more biased to the guy that just drops it and puts
- 19:11his head down because I think that says more.
- 19:14That's my opinion. So it's tough to have a place
- 19:19that's so glorified and so pure, if you will.
- 19:28It's hard to potentially let in impurities and say it's going to
- 19:32be the same. No.
- 19:34But in in defense of the people that are saying that it's
- 19:38already full of cheaters. They're right.
- 19:39Like they're you want to talk about the character clause like
- 19:43just. I mean you don't have to look
- 19:44very far down the list of names that are in there to to realize
- 19:47like there's some not so great guys in there if we're being
- 19:51completely honest. And there's some guys that did
- 19:53some things undetected that that nobody really knows about and
- 19:57may not ever know about. But but maybe we don't teach our
- 20:01son to be exactly like a a professional athlete.
- 20:04And maybe we just say that professional athletes are just
- 20:08that, they're professional athletes.
- 20:13Maybe we don't idolize him this as much as you know we want to.
- 20:20That's a good point. It's a different, it's probably
- 20:23a different topic I think. Yeah, one that we're maybe not
- 20:26going to rip the the, the cover off of just yet.
- 20:30We do however, need to run through these results.
- 20:33We want to give the these guys the credit that they're due.
- 20:37Talk about cheaters and guys who maybe do or don't deserve to be
- 20:42in. I I think it's safe to say the
- 20:44three names that were selected certainly deserve to be in.
- 20:50Adrian Beltre getting in at a 95.1% clip on his first try on
- 20:57the ballot, Joe Mauer 76.1% on his first try on the ballot and
- 21:01Todd Hilton in his sixth year getting in at a clip of 79.7%.
- 21:10I think and I know our I know our guy, AJ Torres mentioned Joe
- 21:14Mauer. I think he was I I personally
- 21:19didn't have any questions or concerns about his I'm.
- 21:24Surprised As far as low as as low as that number was, I'm a
- 21:28little surprised. Yeah, but I mean.
- 21:33If you're in, you're in, Yeah, hit the ball. 317 or or 517 is
- 21:38still gone. Yeah, you're, you know.
- 21:41You're a Hall of Famer one way or another.
- 21:45But I, I, I think the name that had the most scrutiny, and of
- 21:49the three, I guess deservedly so.
- 21:52I mean, I was, I was a pro. Put Todd in.
- 21:55Me too been saying since we started this pod.
- 21:59But Todd Hilton, as I mentioned 79.7%, he bumped up from, I
- 22:08think I'm reading here 52% in 2022 and then last year just
- 22:14missed out at 72.2% and then gets in basically 80% this year,
- 22:22so. That's the other thing that I
- 22:25don't like about this system. It's like it's so dictated on
- 22:29who you're on the ballot with. I don't think that's right.
- 22:34You're either Hall of Famer or you're not.
- 22:37Six years is weird. You know what I like?
- 22:40I I just don't understand why we had to let these other names
- 22:44phase out in order for you to get in.
- 22:48Yeah. Like you hear these you hear
- 22:50these writers talk. I I hate the Hall of Fame season
- 22:55because it it always comes back to these idiot writers and we
- 22:59don't spend as much and I and I know we have full control over
- 23:02what we what we talk about. But it's it's almost it's near
- 23:05impossible to talk about the Hall of Fame and the the
- 23:09decisions that come into play with with who gets in without
- 23:12bringing up the people, the very people that make the decisions.
- 23:16Yeah. But you you hear these guys make
- 23:20the make their arguments all the time after or they share their
- 23:23reasoning after the fact or even before the the results get
- 23:26announced. We're like, yeah, well, I had to
- 23:27let Player X slide off the ballot because, you know, he's
- 23:31still got five more years. And I I'm like.
- 23:34That's on how it works. Dude, you're voting.
- 23:36You're not trying to game the system here.
- 23:38You're voting for who you think are the Hall of Farmers.
- 23:43Like I'll get him to. Be the Hall of Famer or not?
- 23:45No, I don't want to understand it.
- 23:49It's a stupid system, it's an archaic system and it's.
- 23:55And the only people that like it are the freaking writers, man.
- 23:59Does. Does I?
- 24:00I don't really hear players immediately getting up to the
- 24:05podium and thinking and bowing down to the writers.
- 24:09It's like there's just there's too much power, dude, there's
- 24:13too much. Power it kind of.
- 24:15Honestly, I I don't think I really consider this until just
- 24:19this very minute. It's kind of weird when you
- 24:22really think about it. The fact that these guys have,
- 24:25what, 10 years on the ballot, that's a that's a wild system
- 24:30like. What are?
- 24:33Well, meeting meeting certain standards, right?
- 24:36Like if you fall below a threshold of percentage votes,
- 24:39you're out. Oh, sure.
- 24:41No, I mean, assuming you're like like a Todd out, We'll just use
- 24:45Todd out as an example. Like assuming you're well above
- 24:48the minimum thresholds for the duration of the time you're on
- 24:50the ballot. Yeah, it's a silly system if you
- 24:54really take the time to think about it.
- 24:56Yeah. Like we're we're trying to
- 24:58muster up a case to convince writers whether or not we think
- 25:04a guy deserves to be on the I mean, whether it comes down to
- 25:07public opinion or not, or whether these guys are locked
- 25:10behind closed doors every this time, every year, whatever, I
- 25:13don't know. But it's it's just weird to me,
- 25:18you know? Does that make sense?
- 25:20I don't understand the limited votes that you can give.
- 25:24Why? Why do you have limited names
- 25:28that you can choose? Why do you only have so many
- 25:30votes? It's 8, right?
- 25:3510-10. You have 10 votes you can put
- 25:38out on a single ballot. Why?
- 25:42Well, I What's the point of that?
- 25:46If you're a Hall of Famer, you're a Hall of Famer.
- 25:49Not. Hey, I'm running low on votes,
- 25:52and this guy's in his last year and this guy's in his first
- 25:54year. I know he'll be back next year
- 25:56because he's got this amount of votes.
- 25:57What if you're a Hall of Famer? You're a Hall of Famer.
- 26:02This is a weird, wonky system. That is it's, it's.
- 26:10I hate it. And writers are just so
- 26:14arrogant, Dude. There's so much arrogance
- 26:17attached to this, to the writers.
- 26:26Yeah, yeah. To the writers.
- 26:30Yeah. Bums.
- 26:32Yeah, I mean. I feel bad for those listeners
- 26:36that have been listening to us for years because I'm pretty
- 26:39sure this is a shampoo effect, rinse and repeat conversation
- 26:44we've had every year. But yeah, this is across, this
- 26:48is across all of baseball, man. Everybody has his combo and it
- 26:51sucks. Shout out to the new listeners
- 26:53who are hearing it for the first time.
- 26:55Hopefully we've and also made our case.
- 26:58Shout out to freaking Todd Hilton, Joe Mauer, and and
- 27:02Adrian Beltray. I mean, I I love Todd Hilton
- 27:07personally. I I I love what he did for the
- 27:11organization of the Rockies. I love that he stuck around the
- 27:13whole time. I love that he just, he's the
- 27:17dude man. Such a clean glove over at first
- 27:19base. I don't need to sit here and
- 27:22have arguments about elevation and humidifier and whatever the
- 27:25humidor like I don't. I don't need to do that.
- 27:28That guy's a Hall Famer. A stud.
- 27:31Love it. Adrian Beltre.
- 27:34I mean, what a freak. First of all, I think he's got
- 27:40to be remembered as the top 20 right-hander of all time.
- 27:45Possibly Joe Mauer. Joe Mauer to me is kind of like
- 27:54a it's kind of hard to compare him lacrosse.
- 27:58It's it's like a, you know, he had so much talent and I I think
- 28:03he was capable of doing more if his body would let him.
- 28:07But in that time he was dominant and that's I think that's
- 28:11probably my biggest conversation.
- 28:15It's like you talk about when you go in and you travel to a
- 28:18different team and you game plan against somebody, how long are
- 28:21you game planning for that guy? If you're game planning for that
- 28:25guy for six, 7-8 years, that big of a chunk, he's sitting in the
- 28:30middle of his lineup or you know what I mean?
- 28:32Hey, we're facing this guy on the bump this series and your
- 28:36game planning for that guy for so long and he's just sitting at
- 28:39the top of the leaderboards for stats for so long of his career.
- 28:43That's all I need to tell me, you know what I mean?
- 28:47It's less about the milestones and less about the overall
- 28:50numbers. I think it's more about like,
- 28:52were you dominant in that period And what AJ said, Buster Posey,
- 28:56now that Mauer's in, Buster Posey's a landslide because it's
- 28:59like you were dominant in that period.
- 29:01And yeah, it didn't last forever.
- 29:04I give credit to the guys that do last forever, but there's
- 29:10different ways of getting in. So perhaps all three of these
- 29:13guys. Huge monumental names.
- 29:20Do you think Beltre goes in as a Ranger, right?
- 29:27Yeah, Yeah, he wasn't a Dodger very long.
- 29:35Where? Else was he.
- 29:37It's one other place. Now he was with the Dodgers,
- 29:40Mariners, Saracen. Rangers, Yeah.
- 29:46Yeah, 3 studs, man. All deserving?
- 29:53Yep. See Peyton Manning.
- 29:57His. His.
- 29:58I did. I did.
- 30:00Love that big Peyton guy. I'm a big Peyton guy as well.
- 30:04I can't help it. Can't help it.
- 30:08Let us We went way deeper. I thought we would, thanks to
- 30:13the stupid writers, but we got to move on.
- 30:17Let's talk some some current day stuff, some things that are
- 30:21happening on the here and now. Some of this is maybe slightly
- 30:28past due because again, we only do one episode during the the
- 30:31offseason each week. So playing a little bit of catch
- 30:35up. Not too bad though we actually
- 30:37had we had one, we had one trade go down just before we hopped on
- 30:42Jorge Blanco. We'll start with that.
- 30:44Traded from the Twins to the Mariners.
- 30:46The Twins. In return, we get Anthony
- 30:50Desclafani, Justin Topa, along with prospects outfielder
- 30:56Gabriel Gonzalez and right-hander Darren Bowen.
- 31:04I mean so. Robbie Ray was turned into who
- 31:09else was with Desclafani Hanniger in the package.
- 31:14Yeah, oh, oh, oh. Hanniger and Descalfani.
- 31:18One other guy, right? So now Descalfani has been
- 31:26flipped into Jorge Polanco. Interesting.
- 31:31I like Jorge Polanco. Personally, I like him.
- 31:36Yeah, but like before you even look, before you even begin to
- 31:40look at the details of the Hall itself, I mean, four guys,
- 31:44that's a lot for Polanco, no? Yeah, probably.
- 31:49I'm still not totally bought in in on whatever the Mariners are
- 31:53doing. This seems like a it's like a
- 31:55payroll slash. And then also you're bringing in
- 31:59like vets that like you're just trying to squeeze the last out
- 32:05of them, you know? Passing just tweeted said
- 32:10Gonzales is a top 100 ish prospect.
- 32:14SOPA was excellent in 2023. Bowen was 23 and in low A last
- 32:18year. Descalfani gives Minnesota much
- 32:21needed innings. Polanco is a huge get for the
- 32:23Mariners and will slot into the middle of the lineup first with
- 32:27him. Going to Seattle finds him so.
- 32:30He's a little older, isn't he? Isn't he like, 33?
- 32:32He just He played a decade in Minnesota.
- 32:35Yeah. He's got to be. 3334.
- 32:43Wow. He's 3030, man.
- 32:46So he came up young. Still four names.
- 32:53It's interesting. Wow, for I didn't.
- 32:56I don't think I realized this, but between his first two years
- 33:00in the big leagues, he only played nine games.
- 33:03So he really only gave you and even even his first quote UN
- 33:09quote full season he gave you a 69 games, 270 plate appearances.
- 33:13So he wasn't really settled in until 2017.
- 33:20That seems wild. It just feels like he's been
- 33:23around forever. I I do think he's one of those
- 33:26guys that, like, maybe just overlooked, underappreciated
- 33:28being in Minnesota. Yeah, and especially begin like
- 33:32the beginning of his, you know, settling in career Minnesota
- 33:37wasn't good, you know. So now that you know, I'd like
- 33:41to see him somewhere else. I'd like to see how that goes.
- 33:44I like him. It doesn't move the needle a
- 33:48ton, and middle of the lineup is generous.
- 33:51Yeah, yeah, I'm with you and I'm with you on all those things.
- 33:55Like, I I like him. I'm not.
- 33:57I I know it may sound like I'm knocking the guy.
- 33:59It's it's not that. I just think it's like 4 guys,
- 34:02regardless if you've got a what? A a 23 year old playing an A
- 34:06ball mixed in there regard. Regardless of that I I just
- 34:12fucked four guys from Polanco. Seems like a lot.
- 34:14But you know, I mean the Mariners are trying to dump some
- 34:18pieces, clear some space, Whatever they're doing, so be
- 34:23it. Let.
- 34:26Me See here career 17 WAR career 269 hitter, 112 home runs.
- 34:35Not his game. He's a one time All Star his
- 34:39last two seasons. He was hurt last year for a
- 34:43stretch, but his last two years respectively, 2022 hit 235, Last
- 34:50year hit 255. Neither of those seasons did he
- 34:56post an OPS above 789. It was 751 and twenty 22780 or
- 35:02I'm sorry, seven. Yeah, 751 and 2022 and 789 in
- 35:06twenty 23150 OPS plus A115 both years.
- 35:12It just doesn't. Yeah.
- 35:14He's he's going to be a serviceable second baseman for
- 35:17them. But it just doesn't.
- 35:20To say is a huge get. Yeah, I think that's generous in
- 35:23that. I think if this if this
- 35:25offseason hot stove was anything better than what it is, I don't
- 35:30think this is as big. Of a conversation?
- 35:33No, this says this conversation doesn't even happen if if guys
- 35:37like Cody Bellinger, Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery, Names
- 35:40like that are moving, but they're not.
- 35:41So this is what we're talking about.
- 35:43Yeah, 58 games last year at second base, 15 at third.
- 35:49Nice. Low versatility.
- 35:51What's the rest of their roster look like right now?
- 35:55Let's look. I did see some.
- 35:57I saw some Blue Jay fans clamoring for his services at
- 36:01third base, which I thought was an interesting, interesting fit.
- 36:05Really. Blue Jays want everybody right
- 36:07now, man. Blue Jays want Cody Bellinger, a
- 36:13name we'd mentioned that is has yet to move.
- 36:23Yeah, well I this is a lot of confusion here.
- 36:27JP Crawford slots it short obviously.
- 36:30Ty France over at first rotate with Luke Rayley, which was a
- 36:36good AD. I did like that move.
- 36:38Yeah. Sam Haggerty, I believe, started
- 36:42as an outfielder to begin his career if they have him as an
- 36:48infielder. Josh Rojas and Luis Arias were
- 36:52also added. This is interesting.
- 37:01I don't know how it again. Who else was added?
- 37:04Luis Urias, Urias, whatever. And Joshua.
- 37:08Completely different people, Yeah, but the same name, right?
- 37:13Not a no, not not Arayas, not that.
- 37:16No. No, no, no, no.
- 37:17Not in Luis. Rias no Uri.
- 37:19There was another Urias from Milwaukee.
- 37:23Well, he was with, Yeah. Yeah, he was with I I think I'm
- 37:26from Milwaukee, but yeah, yeah, Yeah.
- 37:31So who's this Luis Rias? Which one is this?
- 37:37No, that's that's him. That's him.
- 37:39But you said Luis Orias, and I'm saying that's not.
- 37:42That's not who we're talking about.
- 37:43No, that's a compliment. Just.
- 37:44Yeah. Yeah.
- 37:46Yeah. I I don't know this infield.
- 37:48I don't. I just.
- 37:49I don't understand what's happening.
- 37:50I don't understand what's happening with most of these
- 37:52moves. I like adding Rayleigh and Mitch
- 37:56Garver, but like, I don't know what's going on.
- 37:59Mitch, Garver's a good get. Can we can we back up though?
- 38:02I I still don't feel like we're on the same page here.
- 38:04You understand what I'm saying? Maybe.
- 38:06Who's the other ureus? Ureus.
- 38:08No, no, no, no, no, no. I let's let's stay here.
- 38:14So we there's Luis Arias. And then there's Luis Arias.
- 38:20Like, yeah, the guy that just hits, yeah, I know you.
- 38:25It's a little foggy for you right now because of what we
- 38:28talked about. With yeah, I know it's not
- 38:29arayas. I know that.
- 38:31OK, But that's. What you that's who you said
- 38:32when you're running through the the names that they have, you
- 38:35said Luis Arayas. Urias, I was reading it wrong.
- 38:41It's it's it's it's serious. Yeah, I know.
- 38:44My last thing, it's not Luis Arayas and I still can't do
- 38:46this. Yeah, it's, it's all right.
- 38:47OK. Just wanted to clear that up.
- 38:49Yeah. OK.
- 38:49We're good. But the Rojas is in the Urias is
- 38:54in the I I can't keep it straight.
- 38:57These all these all seem like the same player to me.
- 39:00The same like you're going to mix in at shortstop for 60
- 39:04games, you're going to hit 215, then you're going to give pretty
- 39:08decent defense. So I just, I I I don't, I don't
- 39:12know what's going on here. I don't know what the Mariners
- 39:14are doing. It doesn't feel like they're
- 39:16getting better, it just feels like they're making moves to
- 39:20make moves. That momentum I feel like was
- 39:22short lived. Yeah, I think they're fumbling
- 39:27the bag a little bit. Yep.
- 39:29Yep. And I'm looking at this pitching
- 39:31staff and it's like, I I don't know what's going on here
- 39:34either. And and I say that let me just
- 39:41clarify. I I say that knowing full well
- 39:44and we've talked about this plenty that it doesn't just
- 39:49because they're not going out and and and making these yeah I
- 39:53don't need Yamabato Otani type offers.
- 39:57We're not like that doesn't we're not saying that that
- 40:00equals success or it it translates to wins but like if
- 40:05you're a Mariners fan you got to admit that like not much of what
- 40:08you've really done lately has has inspired you.
- 40:12I mean right. I mean can we all agree there
- 40:15Yeah. So we're not saying that they're
- 40:16not. They're not making smart moves,
- 40:20but they're not. They're not doing enough to give
- 40:24you a clear indication of what the vision is moving.
- 40:26Forward, yeah. Or to give you a reason to
- 40:29really be excited. The only thing I'll say is that
- 40:32I feel like they did successfully add a little pop
- 40:34between Garver and Rayleigh. Yeah, no.
- 40:38Like I said, Garver Garver's good move.
- 40:40But. Mitch Hanniger's head scratcher.
- 40:45I mean, I. Do you get like right, that's
- 40:49your catcher like yeah great AD but you need you need to give me
- 40:53a we. Have Cal Raleigh as well.
- 40:55So it's like does does Mitch Carter just plug DH the whole
- 40:58time and like So what do you do with Ty France and and Luke
- 41:02Raleigh? Like you have three names, four
- 41:04names. They're going to rotate through
- 41:06only two spots and it's like, I don't know what the move is
- 41:10here. You continue to bring back old
- 41:13outfielders and I just, I don't, I don't understand what's
- 41:19happening. Maybe he maybe Palanka will be
- 41:22hitting in the middle of this lineup, because I'm not seeing
- 41:24the vision here. Talking about hitting in the
- 41:28middle of the lineup, Brewers go out and get Reese Hoskins on a
- 41:32two year deal. I like opt out includes an opt
- 41:37out after the first season. Deals were 34 mil.
- 41:42Player Club Opt out. I think it's Player.
- 41:51Let me check. I do like this deal.
- 41:55Yeah, your Milwaukee probably have to overpay a little bit for
- 42:00this coming off an injury, but I I like the juice.
- 42:05I like the pop. They've been desperate for a
- 42:11first baseman for a while now, so I'm a fan of this.
- 42:20This is a surprise Milwaukee move that ordinarily would not
- 42:24expect out of them, so I'm on board.
- 42:30Player option after 24. Smart.
- 42:34What a deal. That agent needs a raise.
- 42:39Didn't play last year. You're going to make 17 a year.
- 42:45You have a flexible deal where you can bet on yourself.
- 42:47If you come back and you're the normal Reese Hoskins, you hit
- 42:51the market again. If not 17, a mil is 17 mil for a
- 42:55second year. Is ain't so bad if you're if
- 43:00you're a little slow and and you still got the rust to work off.
- 43:04I think it's probably an overpay like I said, but Milwaukee needs
- 43:09to because they don't. They haven't had a first baseman
- 43:11to rely on since I don't even know when.
- 43:16You don't. I don't know if Rowdy to Lez is
- 43:17really. I don't know.
- 43:19Yeah. Scratching the itch?
- 43:22Yeah, I mean it's it's best case for.
- 43:25The void It's from a hole over there for a while.
- 43:28It's best case for for Reese after I don't want to be saying
- 43:34kick, I don't want to say kick to the curb.
- 43:38It's tough when Bryce Harper's like, hey I that's mine now I'll
- 43:42play first. And you, I mean, you have to
- 43:45know, I mean the type of, the type of guy that we can imagine.
- 43:48Bryce is having the conversation with Dave Dombrowski, Philly Rob
- 43:52sitting at that table. You and I would venture to say
- 43:55Reese's is at the table there and they're going look like
- 44:01somebody's going to have to draw the short end of the stick here.
- 44:03I think Reese has the awareness to go.
- 44:06We're talking about Bryce Harper here.
- 44:08You know, I wasn't here last year.
- 44:11I wasn't contributing last year. Again, it's Bryce Harper.
- 44:16I think given the decision to make him the full time first
- 44:21baseman and who knows, maybe there was some kickback from
- 44:24Bryce. Like, no, Like, is there a way
- 44:26we can make this work? Because he was very vocal about
- 44:29trying to keep Reese around. And I feel like for the most
- 44:32part, they've kept a good handful of those guys around for
- 44:36a number of years now. And I think it was time for one
- 44:39of them to to get, yeah. And it was just time.
- 44:43Like you said, if this isn't overpay, Reese is the guy that
- 44:47benefits here in that in that scenario and if he has a good
- 44:50year, hits the market again. If not, he falls back on a 17
- 44:56mil year 2. So I.
- 44:59Want to see what else? I just want to look at this
- 45:01Brewers team, see if I. Think it's win, Win for
- 45:03everybody? See if I'm losing my mind at
- 45:12all. Oh, brought in Jake Bowers too.
- 45:18They sure did. Huh.
- 45:22All right. I mean, it's it's interesting.
- 45:28Still a little interesting? Yeah, this is still giving me
- 45:34typical Brewer vibes. Yeah, I just wish Christian
- 45:43Yelich was more than a flash of the pan.
- 45:50I've heard rumors of the of the woolly adamas stuff, but like,
- 45:58why now? Why?
- 45:59Why? Yeah, why ship them out?
- 46:01Like you might as well see what you have this season and see if
- 46:03you can piece together some wins.
- 46:05And if you don't, then sell at the deadline.
- 46:08But yeah, and then you still have arms that you can move on
- 46:14from two. Yeah.
- 46:19Are you looking for tickets? Do you have?
- 46:29Do you have plans with friends or families to make it to an?
- 46:30Upgrade. I don't have this bullpen
- 46:31either. Siki use promo code 3.
- 46:36I'll take that's a social handle at checkout, $20 instantly off
- 46:39your first purchase as a first time user.
- 46:41Siki yeah, we we know you're not inspired by Milwaukee baseball.
- 46:49Wait that's That's well documented.
- 46:52But I think you and I can both agree this is a, you know, good
- 46:55move, good move all around. Yeah, I like the move.
- 47:00Yep. Best case, he's got 1820 home
- 47:06runs up by the deadline and your nine to 10 games out of it and
- 47:14you flip them. That's that's that's best case.
- 47:18I think that's best case that's best case for the Brewers A-Team
- 47:21that's like a the perennial. Yeah, unless you get a Cy Young
- 47:26Corbin Burns again. Yeah, which I would like to see
- 47:31him elsewhere. There are some names that I'm
- 47:32just like, you know, you you would do cooler things elsewhere
- 47:37if you weren't in Wisconsin. Yeah, that's a good thought.
- 47:40Can we? Can we as as baseball fans,
- 47:44agree to just do like a fantasy trade?
- 47:48Like, let's scrap every roster and let's start from scratch
- 47:52your. Fantasy draft?
- 47:53It'd be sick. Do a A league wide redraw 1.
- 47:57Keeper You're going to have one Keeper 1.
- 47:59Keeper 1. Keeper and we just redraft the
- 48:02whole league shake. Hands up, I feel like the
- 48:05Brewers would keep Corbin Burns, wouldn't they?
- 48:07No, Probably. Probably.
- 48:09Devin Williams. I don't know.
- 48:14That's tough if you don't know who your keeper is.
- 48:17I think that's an interesting scenario to be in.
- 48:20That's pretty telling. That just tells you what it's
- 48:22like to be in Wisconsin. Packers are looking better,
- 48:26though, so things are turning up.
- 48:32Super Bowl I I I could not be more done with the Chiefs.
- 48:39I could not be more out on the Chiefs.
- 48:43I knew this was coming. I knew that T Swift was going to
- 48:47be forced into this stupid thing, and we're going to have
- 48:50to. The fact that I'm getting
- 48:51notifications about her is insane.
- 48:59I'm a big Brock Party guy, so I'm riding just.
- 49:02Irrelevant. How about that dude 2?
- 49:04Years. The Niners.
- 49:06He went to school out here. He went to high school out here.
- 49:08Did he really? Right down the road.
- 49:11Drafted as Mr. Relevant 2 years later Heading to the Super Bowl.
- 49:15Good for, good for. Brock man, I'm riding hard on
- 49:18Brock. He's the man.
- 49:20Oh, you know, 98% of America is pulling for the Niners.
- 49:25And honestly, if you were to ask me if I was to, like, switch
- 49:27lives with one person, to be honest, Christian McCaffrey
- 49:30might be up there. That guy is.
- 49:34He's checking a lot of boxes for a lot of people.
- 49:36All right. So you want to hear something
- 49:37crazy? I think I maybe shared this
- 49:38story, just a little little tangent here before we continue
- 49:42on with Baseball talk. Me and Meredith were out in LA.
- 49:48Me and Meredith, Meredith and I properly there is here.
- 49:50Hello. Nice.
- 49:52We were in LA last Newport last Sock shout out, did you test
- 49:58out, did you? Test out English.
- 50:00Or yes, I did. I sure did.
- 50:07No, we're out in. Lai was out there for a
- 50:09conference last last October. Holy cow, that was 2 Octobers
- 50:15ago. Oh my goodness.
- 50:17Yeah, I don't know what's going. On 20/22.
- 50:20Yeah, it's 2022. Little flat escalator thing at
- 50:24the at the airport. Yep, we're going a lot faster
- 50:27when. We need to go.
- 50:29We were, we were out there and we were staying.
- 50:32They, they put us up in this hotel and the Panthers were in
- 50:40town and they were staying in this hotel and we were hanging
- 50:47out. They gave us like these, like
- 50:49little vouchers to use at the bar for like an app or a drink,
- 50:53whatever. So we went down there one night
- 50:57and dude, I'm like 90. I wish you would have been there
- 51:00because you could have told me for certain.
- 51:03I'm like 99% sure. Christian McCaffrey 'cause he
- 51:07was with the Panthers still at the time.
- 51:10Double, like, triple. Check me on that right 'cause he
- 51:15wasn't with the Niners until last year.
- 51:17Yeah, he got traded to the to the Niners last year.
- 51:20Yeah, yeah. So he's still on the team with
- 51:22time, 99% sure. He comes down to the the the
- 51:27woman working the bar that night, asking if he had lost his
- 51:33wallet there, and if so, if anybody had returned it.
- 51:35He was decked out in Panther stuff and I'm like 99% sure it
- 51:41was Christian McCaffrey, but I'm not positive.
- 51:44But I think it. Wasn't I mean, he's?
- 51:46And I'm sitting right there. Just a good looking cat man.
- 51:50And he's like super cool, super cool.
- 51:55He went to high school right down the street from me in
- 51:59Denver. He went to Valor Christian high
- 52:03School. All his brothers went there.
- 52:05Valor Christian was like the school dude.
- 52:08Like Vinny Castilla's kid was there.
- 52:09So Vinny Castilla would go out and coach the team.
- 52:12Brian Dawkins, remember him? The safety?
- 52:15Sure do. His kid went there the same time
- 52:17Christian McCaffrey was there. So he was coaching.
- 52:19It was insane. And Ed McCaffrey, everyone
- 52:21knows, was in the In the League of wild for the Broncos.
- 52:24So like, yeah, went to the crazy school.
- 52:27But yeah, Chris McCaffrey dude. Like, I little guy crush on that
- 52:31guy. Like he's he's, he's the dude.
- 52:35Living the life back to Baseball Hector Naris The Cubs signed
- 52:42Hector Naris on a one year, $9 million deal.
- 52:46Includes an option. I without, like, I'm just going
- 52:53to fire from the hip. Like we talked about the
- 52:55beginning of the show. That's all I do.
- 52:57Babe, babe. No research.
- 52:59I don't know why, but if we include the Craig Council thing,
- 53:03I'm just going to give this offseason for the Cubs an A I
- 53:09feel like they're doing the right things.
- 53:12Am I crazy? They're still in on Cody
- 53:15Bellinger. Too.
- 53:16If they bring back Cody, that's an A.
- 53:19If here's the thing, though, not only do the if they bring back
- 53:23Cody Bellinger, but if they bring him back lower than what
- 53:26the market was anticipating, which the longer we get or the
- 53:30longer it goes, the closer we get to spring training, that
- 53:34price tag is only going down. Yeah, yeah, for a lot of these
- 53:40guys. Snell too.
- 53:42So. But I I don't know what it is.
- 53:44What? What else did they do?
- 53:45What? I'm I don't know why I'm giving
- 53:47him an A, but I want to give him an A.
- 53:49They got imanaga, right? Yeah, imanaga they got.
- 53:56There was one other move. It's one other solid move or no.
- 54:01It no. Why am I acting like they went
- 54:03crazy? They they played it late, didn't
- 54:05they, Like, weren't they? They were like one of the last
- 54:07few teams, I think to make a move, if I recall.
- 54:10So maybe it wasn't one other guy.
- 54:11I think that it may have been it.
- 54:13Craig Counsel's got to be worth the C plus on his own.
- 54:17No other moves. You could do no moves.
- 54:19That's good. You jump up from an F Yep, I
- 54:22agree, that may have been it. Let me, let me, let me try to do
- 54:30some research, see what happens. Yeah, maybe there's not a lot
- 54:40going on here. He already did that user.
- 54:44Just bridging the gap. Oh the.
- 54:48El Monte move. I like that.
- 54:51The Yancey Almonte move with the Dodgers.
- 54:55Oh, true. Yep.
- 54:56That one looks good. That one looks cool.
- 55:00Can we go to oh, let me drop back last month, the Imanaga.
- 55:06Are we missing something, guy? Yeah, they got, they got some
- 55:12good options back there on the in the back end of the bullpen.
- 55:18I like. I like what the Cubs are doing.
- 55:22Whatever. Bring back Bellinger and Cubs
- 55:26fans should be happy. Maybe I'm out of I'm just out of
- 55:29pocket. I don't know.
- 55:30I don't know what's going on over there.
- 55:32I like it, though. The Cubs are like turning into
- 55:36this weird team that everyone like kind of roots for to to get
- 55:40back to normalcy. I don't know why I like it.
- 55:43I I can't explain it. I can't explain why I'm backing
- 55:46them, but I want to. I feel bad for them.
- 55:49I don't know why I think baseball's better when the Cubs
- 55:54are good. Do I agree?
- 55:57I mean they they weren't on anybody's good side when they
- 55:59were threatening to ship out Contreras and KB and yeah, Rizzo
- 56:05and breaking up the breaking up the band.
- 56:08But now they've, they've reshifted the focus, they've
- 56:12they've narrowed in on a vision. I think people are starting to
- 56:15see it, even the casuals. And I think you're right.
- 56:19I think. I think people are going to
- 56:22start pulling for the old cubbies again.
- 56:27Jock Peterson heading to the NL champ D backs on a one year.
- 56:35Can I just say something? I I.
- 56:37Hate Kind of sneaky with stuff. Yeah, I mean.
- 56:41It is not that this is not that this is a No 140 game kind of
- 56:46guy. No.
- 56:49I but I hate one year deals. I I hate them.
- 56:54And it's really becoming more clear to me just how much I hate
- 57:04one year deals because I've said it on here before.
- 57:09I appreciate when a a a name can stick around.
- 57:13Yeah. For a length of time give fans a
- 57:18a chance to latch on to get to know get to appreciate a little
- 57:24bit. But when you're signing these
- 57:26guys to just plug holes and I I know it's part of the game.
- 57:29I'm not I'm not naive in that sense but you know it's it's
- 57:33just one year deal here one year deal there.
- 57:36It's like my goodness, yeah and especially with guys that are on
- 57:40the back end of their careers which to be fair is good portion
- 57:46of the guys that are receiving these deals.
- 57:47But it's like, it's hard to pull, for example, Red Sox.
- 57:52It's hard for me to get excited about the Red Sox bringing in
- 57:55Justin Turner last year because it's like the dude who most
- 57:59likely will not be here in 2024. That could change of course, but
- 58:04it's like. Yeah.
- 58:07At the very. Least I'm with you.
- 58:08Just give me, give me two years, you know?
- 58:10That's all I'm asking for. That's all I'm asking for.
- 58:11I can get on board with that. I can get on board with that.
- 58:15I do. I I kind of like what some of
- 58:17the things that the the Diamondbacks are doing.
- 58:21I I that is a team where it's like hey we're not far off.
- 58:27We don't need to do a ton to get better.
- 58:33Let's do a little fill in the gaps here.
- 58:37So Ijennio Suarez, they brought back Guriel, added E Rod right.
- 58:49Sure did that was four year deal?
- 58:51And then this. It's like, you know, not that
- 58:53Jack Peterson is, but like, if you can get something out of
- 58:59him, you know, this is what Jack Peterson is like.
- 59:03The epitome of like, you remember that chapter where like
- 59:07growing up and and even like into our teenage years where
- 59:11these teams, like, really wanted a good pinch hitter.
- 59:18Yeah. That's what I feel like we're
- 59:20starting to creep into, Like let's go get this veteran bat
- 59:25that has spent the last few years understanding how to stay
- 59:29productive as an as a not everyday player.
- 59:32Sure. And willing to accept a role.
- 59:36Great clubhouse guy. I I like the move.
- 59:41I'm not. I'm it's not like Jock does a
- 59:43lot for me. But I see what they're doing and
- 59:48I see some of the other moves they made.
- 59:50And I'm like, you know, I don't hate what you're doing.
- 59:55I don't respect it. I don't, I have nothing against
- 59:59Jock. It's more just the deals, I I
- 1:00:01hate one year deals that's all. I might go catch some games this
- 1:00:05year. I might do that.
- 1:00:08We'll see. How about it?
- 1:00:11And Adam Frazier kind of closing the book here on the On the
- 1:00:14Moves, not really much to cover here.
- 1:00:18One year deal, 4 1/2 mil. There's a handful of other deals
- 1:00:22that happened, very minor bunch of one year deals that didn't
- 1:00:25even bother to include. Yeah, but I I included him in
- 1:00:30this just because I feel like there was a relatively large
- 1:00:35fall off with him now. Like, wasn't it just was it 2-3
- 1:00:41years ago that he was the bat that everybody wanted and then
- 1:00:46the Padres 1 snatched him up from Pittsburgh?
- 1:00:49Do I have that right? No, that's right.
- 1:00:53Yeah, trade to the Padres. Yeah, I thought he was five that
- 1:00:58year. I thought he was like a pretty
- 1:01:01good guy with with the Orioles last year, right?
- 1:01:05Like. No, no, no I don't.
- 1:01:08Maybe fall off, maybe is not the right way to put it, but I've.
- 1:01:15There's a little over hype. We had a chapter of over hype.
- 1:01:17That's that's yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 1:01:19I feel like the discussion surrounding out of Frazier has
- 1:01:22has taken a taken a turn. Yeah, like we you have been
- 1:01:26good, but like let's not get crazy and say that you're the at
- 1:01:29the top of the market at your position.
- 1:01:31I'm not. I think if you recall, it may
- 1:01:34have just been like that month leading up to the deadline.
- 1:01:36Where I do remember. Frazier Yeah, it it was crazy.
- 1:01:39I was like, why all of a sudden are we talking about Adam Freak?
- 1:01:42I mean, he hit like 300 that year, like I said.
- 1:01:44But like, why? Why is this the coveted bat that
- 1:01:48everybody's trying to get at the deadline?
- 1:01:50I don't know. I feel like now he's playing
- 1:01:52with the Royals. Again, firing from the hip here,
- 1:01:54I I think I, the Royals have been like, kind of interesting
- 1:01:58this offseason. It's been a lot of these moves
- 1:02:02they gave us one year. I think every fan was like,
- 1:02:05dude, let's just see what your youth has.
- 1:02:07Show me what you have going on over there.
- 1:02:11And then there were freaking cave dwellers, dude.
- 1:02:15Worst team in baseball last year And then you're like, OK, well
- 1:02:18maybe we should get you some MLB ready names.
- 1:02:22And then they went out this year.
- 1:02:26Research time, Please hold. You looking up their infield?
- 1:02:32No. I'm going to look up some of the
- 1:02:34transactions they've made. Just these, just this this
- 1:02:39offseason here. SeatGeek use our promo code 3 O
- 1:02:43take, that's our social handle THREEOHTAKE to save $20.
- 1:02:50And it doesn't even have to be sports.
- 1:02:52It can be the theater. It can be.
- 1:02:54It can be a concert, it can be a an art show.
- 1:03:00They have those on there. I think they do.
- 1:03:01They got everything on there, say $20.
- 1:03:04Tyler Duffy invited Louis Sesta to spring training.
- 1:03:09Hunter Renfro, Michael Walker, Chris Stratton, Seth Lugo.
- 1:03:18You know what I'm saying? Like, hey Will Smith, they're
- 1:03:23going to the they're going to the freaking World Series, dude.
- 1:03:31Royals. Friend of the pod?
- 1:03:33Mike Brasseau getting an invite to Spring training?
- 1:03:36How about that? So, you know, let's.
- 1:03:40The Royals are going to the World Series.
- 1:03:42Garrett Hampson, I mean. You know, oh, not Garrett
- 1:03:48Hanson, Mike. I mean, I can't forget putting
- 1:03:53him in the World Series. Give him the Give him the crown.
- 1:03:57Give him the trophy. Now give.
- 1:03:58Him, the trophy now. I can't completely hate on them.
- 1:04:06I can't. I'm.
- 1:04:07I can appreciate what you're doing.
- 1:04:09You're fielding somewhat of a decent team.
- 1:04:13I mean it's on brand with what they do, like they're not going
- 1:04:16out and dropping boatloads of quiche, but no, you know,
- 1:04:20they're they're making royal site moves and to their credit,
- 1:04:23they're at the very least they're making moves they're not
- 1:04:26trying to payroll. I think we need to remember that
- 1:04:29Vinnie Pasquantino is that guy's going to be Pasquatch.
- 1:04:34Just wait. That guy.
- 1:04:36If if you don't know, you just wait.
- 1:04:39Bobby Witt, you will. We know about him.
- 1:04:41Friend of the pod. Bobby Witt.
- 1:04:43Oh, we know. We know.
- 1:04:45MJ Melendez. There's a future there.
- 1:04:48Come on. Drew Waters, super high
- 1:04:51prospect. Braves fans know him.
- 1:04:54There's promise here. They're going to they're going
- 1:04:59to see some stuff give it some time, let this core get a little
- 1:05:04older. But Bobby Witt pass Cantino I
- 1:05:12just saying. Speaking of promise, Tigers
- 1:05:19signed 22 year old infield prospect Colt Keith to a six
- 1:05:25year contract. It guarantees him $28 million.
- 1:05:34Hasn't seen, hasn't sniffed the grass of a Major League ballpark
- 1:05:4428 mil for six years. Is this like a?
- 1:05:51Is it a prank? I too early to tell.
- 1:05:54Is this like a like a fake pioneer move?
- 1:06:01You know what I mean? Like, hey, the Braves been
- 1:06:04pioneers of doing early extensions with guys that you
- 1:06:08know have a lot of promise. Yeah.
- 1:06:11Is this like a trying to one up times They're trying to one up
- 1:06:15everybody be like we're smarter than everybody.
- 1:06:17Let's go do it to our top prospect.
- 1:06:19Is he even their top prospect? I hope he is.
- 1:06:26The is he. Even. 22nd ranked prospects in
- 1:06:32the big leagues. OK.
- 1:06:35Let me see here. Cool.
- 1:06:42Oh, I mean, that's cool, But like, I.
- 1:06:45He's got to be right. No, he sure isn't.
- 1:06:49He's their second behind Max Clark, who's currently in a
- 1:06:53ball. Colt Keith, however, is
- 1:06:56projected to be the team starting second baseman.
- 1:07:03He had 325 with 14 bombs, 50 ribbies and 59 games last year
- 1:07:07for AA. Erie then was promoted to AAA
- 1:07:10Toledo and batted 28713 bombs, 51 ribbies and 67 games.
- 1:07:15What's his name? Colt Keith.
- 1:07:22It's kind of a cool name. I love it.
- 1:07:25Kind of a cool name some. Pretty cool initials there, if I
- 1:07:28do say so myself. Maybe I think that we just we
- 1:07:33just relax a little bit, maybe not do this.
- 1:07:38Who knows dude, Maybe this is the maybe.
- 1:07:40But maybe, who knows, maybe we are going to, you know, five
- 1:07:44years from now, we look back and we're like, dude, you remember
- 1:07:47we recorded that episode. We had no idea who this guy was
- 1:07:49talking a bunch of noise and he's the new Aaron Judge.
- 1:07:55I don't. Who knows, man.
- 1:07:57We never know. These guys at in whatever
- 1:08:00position they're in in the front office obviously know more than
- 1:08:02we do. But dude, I'm just saying this
- 1:08:05is setting a weird precedent. I want to go back.
- 1:08:08You just gave me an idea. I'm going to be bored this week,
- 1:08:12so I'm going to go back and listen to some old episodes from
- 1:08:15the first year. I'm going to go back to 2018.
- 1:08:18Just try to find names that like we.
- 1:08:19I'm going to find names who I'm like, who is this bomb that
- 1:08:23they're giving 150 mil to, And then it's like a perennial All
- 1:08:28Star love that I'm going to, I'm going to go, I'm going.
- 1:08:31To go dig. Around and see if I can find
- 1:08:33something. Yeah, who knows?
- 1:08:37We'll see. We will see the Nationals and
- 1:08:41Marlins uniform updates real quick.
- 1:08:45Any thoughts on that? Did you have a chance to see
- 1:08:47those by chance? I hate that the Nationals are
- 1:08:52ditching cursive. What's that about?
- 1:08:55They're not ditching them. So I don't know if you saw but
- 1:08:59there, which was a wild move in and of itself, but I think in
- 1:09:03order to because I think there's like a a cap like a limit for.
- 1:09:07Yeah, that's what I thought, OK, so after this year, they're
- 1:09:12dropping the cherry blossom munis.
- 1:09:14I don't know if you saw that, which is wild.
- 1:09:19Mixed emotions on that. I'll mixed emotions on that.
- 1:09:23I'm low key. That's one of my favorites.
- 1:09:26I know not a lot of people agree.
- 1:09:28That's fine. I don't care.
- 1:09:30I like them. Oh, I thought that would fix my
- 1:09:33computer charger. Why is my computer not charging?
- 1:09:36Dead. No, don't say that.
- 1:09:39You're. All right, share your emotions
- 1:09:42on the jerseys while I get this figured out.
- 1:09:44I I just like it. The Marlins one I didn't even
- 1:09:47see. So he's leaving me right now and
- 1:09:50I have to look this up. Marlins uniform.
- 1:09:57What's what's new? This doesn't look new.
- 1:10:08Looks the same to me. What did we change?
- 1:10:19This looks the same, the font. So it's all it's all white and
- 1:10:28the borders kind of in and out. Good thing that ADT patch is on
- 1:10:33the shoulder though. close call there.
- 1:10:38I mean the blue one is, are we talking about the blue ones?
- 1:10:40The black ones look the same. Oh, we already switched up to
- 1:10:44the Marlins. Yeah, hold on.
- 1:10:46Let me let me finish my thought here on the Nets.
- 1:10:49I didn't cover the Nets at all. Thought that's thought that's
- 1:10:53what we were talking about. Yeah.
- 1:10:54So they're dropping the cherry blossoms after next year and
- 1:10:58they introduced, I'm sure everyone's seen it by now.
- 1:11:01They're introducing the pullover style white unis, which kind of
- 1:11:08crazy. It's got the capital with the
- 1:11:13West kind of throwback logo on there on the chest or on the on
- 1:11:18the. Oh, like the.
- 1:11:20PEC area, so it's off to the side and it's pullover, so kind
- 1:11:25of interesting. Blue sleeves, white uni.
- 1:11:28I don't like the neck. The the neck is close.
- 1:11:33Yeah. But it the weird like not V This
- 1:11:37is like a girly V-neck going on. Yeah, not a fan.
- 1:11:42It's a deep V and the road unis I hate could not hate more.
- 1:11:50Just the most bland generic block font arched across the
- 1:11:55front. Washington, these will be
- 1:12:00dropped. I'll go ahead and say I'll make
- 1:12:03a bold prediction these I'll say the Grays, the white ones.
- 1:12:09I feel like they may try to push a little longer than a year.
- 1:12:13Greys will be gone after next year or some some tweak will be
- 1:12:18made because these are not it and I don't know who thought
- 1:12:23over it. Nats HQ thought that these were
- 1:12:28it 'cause they're not the greys. No, not it at all.
- 1:12:32Yeah. And then Greys for sure.
- 1:12:33I like they had the IT was just solid red cursive on the greys,
- 1:12:39right? Yeah, with the white, the white
- 1:12:43outline of. I was a fan of those.
- 1:12:45Of Washington. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:49This is. Stupid.
- 1:12:51Yeah, and then in the same conversation, like, oh, not only
- 1:12:54are we going to introduce these, we're going to drop the the
- 1:12:57jersey that the fans love the most seem, well, minus the the
- 1:13:03blue cursive ones that they got. But yeah, not a not a fan.
- 1:13:07The Marlins, the blue ones are sweet.
- 1:13:12I do like the blue ones. And I like that they they they
- 1:13:16whited out the text on the front of the black ones because nobody
- 1:13:20could read it before that, so. That's what happened to the
- 1:13:23black ones. Yeah, they just filled in the
- 1:13:25text with with white, because if you remember, it was like it was
- 1:13:30like that weird black. Yeah, it.
- 1:13:34Was like the blue outline. Whatever.
- 1:13:37Nothing really on it. This is also, I don't, I don't
- 1:13:41know if you had a note the honorable mention about the
- 1:13:43Yankees away jerseys. Did you see that?
- 1:13:45Oh, true. Yeah.
- 1:13:46Going back to the older style, I love it.
- 1:13:51You do. I don't really care that much.
- 1:13:53I kind of like the sleeve boarders I'm a fan of.
- 1:13:56Those I I I think I'm going to like the this minor tweak and it
- 1:14:02was whole layer it. I hate to say it my friend, but
- 1:14:05a lot of your fellow Yankee fans quote, UN quote, UN quote,
- 1:14:10really outing themselves as to just how far back their
- 1:14:15knowledge of their favorite team goes.
- 1:14:18Because they're like, why are they going back to the field of
- 1:14:22dream style like this isn't it bro?
- 1:14:25I'm like, well, I'm gonna go ahead and break the new shade
- 1:14:29that this goes back a little further than the Field of
- 1:14:32Dreams. Yeah, like 100 years.
- 1:14:33Yeah, Just give or take. Yeah.
- 1:14:36So that's where we're at with that.
- 1:14:39Yeah. All right.
- 1:14:40Talk to Unis. That about does it, except for
- 1:14:46some unbreakable records. Talk real quick before we get
- 1:14:48out of here on deck for today. Finding the drum roll button.
- 1:14:58There we go. Boom.
- 1:15:04Cy Young career wins. Yeah, maybe I should put you on
- 1:15:09the soundboard. Cy Young career wins this I
- 1:15:17texted you today dude. This is comical.
- 1:15:19This is comical career. Hall of Famer.
- 1:15:22Triple Crown winner, 19 O3 World Series champion two time ERA
- 1:15:26title winner. He had a war accumulated war of
- 1:15:30163.6. The record that we are getting
- 1:15:33into 511 wins, 315 losses, which is a record in and of itself as
- 1:15:39well. The losses.
- 1:15:40Had a three or three. Yes, he had 315 losses in 19 O
- 1:15:463. No his career.
- 1:15:48OK, his chicken chicken. Yeah, I mean, that was a
- 1:15:52legitimate question. He probably made 315 starts
- 1:15:56right in 19 O3, but this is his career career ERA of 263.
- 1:16:03He's he made 906 appearances 800 and fifteens of those were
- 1:16:08starts, which I also believe is an all time record.
- 1:16:12He had 18 saves, which was new to me.
- 1:16:15I I have no idea. Cy Young tallied the saves
- 1:16:18category. He notched 7356 innings, 2803 KS
- 1:16:26WHIP of 1.1, three O 511 wins. Most all time.
- 1:16:39Second in line. Walter Johnson with 417, So
- 1:16:44nearly 100 more wins than the next in line.
- 1:16:48Yeah. And the crazy thing about it is
- 1:16:51it's not like a modern name. We're not talking like, oh,
- 1:16:54Randy Johnson is second in line. Yeah.
- 1:16:56So like maybe somebody's close. No, Walter Johnson.
- 1:17:00Yeah, Old Walt neck, old old Walt, old big train next in line
- 1:17:05at #2. Do you know who #3 is?
- 1:17:12Should I know? You should, if you're a fan of
- 1:17:18old timey baseball. No, you you you won't know this
- 1:17:21all. Right.
- 1:17:22That's cool. Move along.
- 1:17:24Grover, Cleveland Alexander. No.
- 1:17:27Christy Mathewson also tied, also tied for third.
- 1:17:32All right, you should definitely know who #5 is coming in a 365
- 1:17:36wins. Who's number 5?
- 1:17:38365 Greg Maddox No idea. So close PUD.
- 1:17:45Galvin PUD PUD. I didn't think Old PUD PUD
- 1:17:51Grandpa PUD. What a dope name.
- 1:17:58So as I kind of alluded to, some of these numbers that he he
- 1:18:02accumulated were also records. Pitched more innings, started
- 1:18:04more games and completed more games than anyone else in big
- 1:18:10league history. Did you know he played?
- 1:18:12This was Wild. Did you know he played for a
- 1:18:15team called the Saint Louis Perfectos?
- 1:18:20That's pretty cool. He also got to play for the
- 1:18:22Cleveland Spiders, played for the Cleveland Naps and the
- 1:18:26Boston Rustlers. You know the old wrestlers.
- 1:18:32Did you say the naps? Cleveland Naps.
- 1:18:35Naps, Yes. Now that's a team that I can get
- 1:18:40on board. With, it's not.
- 1:18:43It's not what you think it was. Named after It was named after.
- 1:18:47What's his name? I can never pronounce it.
- 1:18:52Oh my gosh. I want you to try Luis Arias.
- 1:18:58No. What was that dude's name?
- 1:19:07Nap. Is it Nap?
- 1:19:08Lahoy LAJO i.e. I mean, he's like one of the
- 1:19:14talking Cleveland baseball. He's like one of the one of the
- 1:19:17guys from that franchise. But I can never pronounce the
- 1:19:20name. Forgive me.
- 1:19:22His first name is Nap. Yeah, they named, they named the
- 1:19:25team after him because he, I think he was a player manager.
- 1:19:31And bro just comes in and he's like, I think this team is going
- 1:19:33to be named after me now. I think this is my team now.
- 1:19:37I'm the captain now. Yeah, that's pretty much what
- 1:19:39happened. Do you think naps were super
- 1:19:41common back then? Do you think there were confused
- 1:19:43fans in the crowd? I've seen a lot of promotional
- 1:19:49ideas here, you know what I mean?
- 1:19:50Bring your pillow to the modern. Modern day, sure, but I'm I I
- 1:19:54think they had like 22 hour work days back in the day.
- 1:19:57So I don't I venture to say naps were not as as common place as
- 1:20:02they are now. Yeah, sleeping bag.
- 1:20:05Thanks to labor laws, I'm. A huge fan of this.
- 1:20:07Let's bring this back. Change it to the yeah, the
- 1:20:11Washington naps instead of the Nats we're in.
- 1:20:15Boom. That's a money maker right
- 1:20:18there, all right, Getting into this record because it's it's
- 1:20:20insane. For 19 straight years he was in
- 1:20:28the top ten in his league for numbers of for number of innings
- 1:20:32pitched. He led the league in victories
- 1:20:35on five occasions, 18921895 and from nineteen O 1 to 19 O3 In
- 1:20:401892 he reached a career high and wins with 36.
- 1:20:48Dude, that's pretty nuts. You don't even see 36 starts
- 1:20:53anymore. He also pitched the first
- 1:20:56perfect game of the 20th century.
- 1:21:01He had three no hitters, but in regards to this record, he for
- 1:21:05an MLB pitcher to win five. This is like my favorite part of
- 1:21:08doing this mini series is putting it in perspective of
- 1:21:11like what somebody would have to do now.
- 1:21:13Sure, for an MLB pitcher to win 500 games, 11 short of Cy
- 1:21:19Young's record, he would have to pit.
- 1:21:22He would have to win 25 games a year for twenty seasons.
- 1:21:27Yeah. The last player, the last player
- 1:21:31to win 25 games in a season was Bob Welch of the Oakland A's in
- 1:21:351990. The win is already dead and.
- 1:21:41Yeah, I mean, I. So was Simon's arm, but win
- 1:21:45number? Without a doubt.
- 1:21:48No, I I mean, I bring this up knowing that the win is is.
- 1:21:53Yeah. Beyond.
- 1:21:55Well, beyond the way out the door, but I just, it's still a
- 1:21:59record that I think needs to be talked about because when you
- 1:22:01really sit down and look at it, 511 wins.
- 1:22:06Yeah. That's just insane.
- 1:22:09That's just insane. So you know, good on Psy.
- 1:22:14Think he was using any spider tack or anything?
- 1:22:18Had some greenies in the clubhouse.
- 1:22:20I would venture to say that, you know, if there was some
- 1:22:23variation of spider attack back in the day, I mean he did play
- 1:22:26for the Cleveland Spiders. So you, I mean you talk like
- 1:22:28promotional items, maybe they were sponsored by spiders?
- 1:22:31Probably, right? But back then, I feel like the
- 1:22:33center fielder used to rock a cigar in his mouth in the middle
- 1:22:36of the game. It's just a different time, you
- 1:22:40know. Different era of bowl.
- 1:22:42Was Vaseline even created at that point?
- 1:22:45Could they even use that? Dude, Vaseline has to be like
- 1:22:49200 years old. Yeah, you're probably right.
- 1:22:53When was bet you didn't expect this to be a topic of discussion
- 1:22:57today? When was Vaseline invented?
- 1:23:00Followed up with What is Vaseline?
- 1:23:03Dude, Saigon was definitely using Vaseline 1870.
- 1:23:08Oh yeah, and it's fresh on the market too.
- 1:23:11Oh yeah, you know, they're they're handing that out on
- 1:23:14street corners. They're like, let's get this in
- 1:23:17the hands of these ball players down the street.
- 1:23:20How about that? See what magic of Vaseline you
- 1:23:24see? You're saying?
- 1:23:25I got this two cents. Had little jar save up all week
- 1:23:31for this. I had to save up all week to.
- 1:23:34To fork over this penny for this little jar of petroleum Jelly.
- 1:23:37You see? Petroleum dude.
- 1:23:42Oh for. Sure, dude, did we just stumble
- 1:23:44across one of the untold conspiracies of?
- 1:23:48I think so. What a wild time.
- 1:23:51You know what I mean? What a wild time.
- 1:23:53I bet guys were like sliding into bags and being like, oh,
- 1:23:59that scar that's that's hurting from the Civil War.
- 1:24:02I had a bayonet shoved in my leg couple years ago.
- 1:24:05Let me clean that sliding in the.
- 1:24:07Bourbon that I've got in my back pocket like.
- 1:24:09Yeah, dude, just busting out of Flask.
- 1:24:13Meanwhile, Cy Young is just throwing out freaking bowling
- 1:24:16balls game after game. Let's look up that roster.
- 1:24:26I'll look it up right now, there's. 3 pitchers on the
- 1:24:28entire team. All right, let's look up his
- 1:24:31World Series team. Or no, let's look up.
- 1:24:34Hold on, this will be the last thing we do before we get out of
- 1:24:36here. Cy Young stats.
- 1:24:39So his first season, it's so funny to me that Baseball
- 1:24:43Reference has these things. Like, why do we have stats from
- 1:24:451890? Yeah, all right, so 1890 played
- 1:24:49for the Cleveland Spiders. He went nine and seven, had a
- 1:24:52347. Let's pull up the 1890.
- 1:24:55Pretty average year. Sigh. 9 dubs.
- 1:24:58What a scrub. And you wanted a a an award
- 1:25:03named after you was pretty. Vaseline.
- 1:25:06He was this. He was one of two Hall of
- 1:25:08Farmers on the 1890 Spiders. Sure, sure, George Davis.
- 1:25:13That could be anybody. That could be.
- 1:25:18That's insane. No chance.
- 1:25:21You could give me a million guesses.
- 1:25:25No chance. I'm guessing George Davis as a
- 1:25:28Hall of Famer, yeah. What were we trying to figure
- 1:25:33out? Oh, pitchers.
- 1:25:34The roster I just want to see the roster all.
- 1:25:38Right, so get this. 12 man roster.
- 1:25:42What is the number here? Games in line up or announces
- 1:25:45pitcher. All right, so how many how many
- 1:25:48pitchers do you think, on average, A-Team goes through in
- 1:25:51a year in the season? Now, today or back then?
- 1:25:55Today. So you carry, you typically
- 1:26:02carry what, like 13? I was, yeah, Some.
- 1:26:08I was 13. 14 teen between like September call UPS.
- 1:26:15Spot starts a limit. Of 14 pitchers.
- 1:26:20Let me say 4040 on average, maybe even 50.
- 1:26:26You want to know how many? So, according to Baseball
- 1:26:29Reference, sure. From the 1890 Cleveland Spiders.
- 1:26:36The number of name? The number of players that
- 1:26:39appeared in a lineup or were announced as a pitcher, 11 the
- 1:26:51whole year. That's insane.
- 1:26:54The whole year. That's nuts and you want to
- 1:26:59know. You want to know who is leading
- 1:27:01the charge for the 1890 Cleveland Spiders?
- 1:27:04It wasn't so young, I can tell you that it was.
- 1:27:08Ed Beaton, born in 1866, made 54 appearances for the Cleveland
- 1:27:17Spiders at age 23. Let's.
- 1:27:20Go Ed at the ripe old age of 23. Probably had like 6 years left
- 1:27:25to live. Poor guy.
- 1:27:29No, he made it to 58. Man.
- 1:27:36You want to know, Ed? I love going down this rabbit
- 1:27:38hole. You want to know Ed Beaton's
- 1:27:39full name is. Please.
- 1:27:42Ebenezer Ambrose Beaton. Yes, hit me with the Ebenezer.
- 1:27:48Absolutely. Let's have it.
- 1:27:51Absolutely. Ebenezer passed me all that.
- 1:27:55He made jaw of petroleum Jelly. We could do a full skit.
- 1:28:00I would love that. That should be like a that
- 1:28:02should be a a bonus pod. Yes, scallywag.
- 1:28:06Pass that over, Ebenezer. He made 54 starts, 53 were
- 1:28:12complete games. What?
- 1:28:17What? That's awesome. 54 starts and 53
- 1:28:25complete games. Perfect we.
- 1:28:29May have to bust out. We may have to bust out some
- 1:28:32some baseball history. Again, this is crazy.
- 1:28:35Yeah, we it's we're due. We need to get back.
- 1:28:37It's been a while, yeah. Modern day baseball is is is
- 1:28:41boring. It's kind of boring right now.
- 1:28:43We need to bust out some. Yeah, I need some Ebenezers and
- 1:28:47PUD's in my life more often. How about that?
- 1:28:52Great, Great. Last thing before we get out of
- 1:28:56here, any prediction on who they're announcing?
- 1:28:58I mean, based on your listen to this, they're announcing the MLB
- 1:29:02The Show cover on Tuesday the 30th.
- 1:29:05Any prediction on who do you think it's going to be?
- 1:29:08For the record, we're recording this Monday night, the 29th So
- 1:29:17My Bet's Akunya. I think that's a very safe bet.
- 1:29:22I think that's a very safe bet. Dang, I'm stuck.
- 1:29:33I mean, let's be honest, anything's probably going to be
- 1:29:35a bump up from jazz from last year, right?
- 1:29:37I mean, come on, that was a little bit of a mess.
- 1:29:39It's OK. It's all right.
- 1:29:41Nothing. But love for jazz but.
- 1:29:42Yeah. Got to redeem ourselves here, I
- 1:29:45think. Shohei's already been on it.
- 1:29:46Judge has already been on it. Julio's already been on it.
- 1:29:51Bryce has been on it, I think. Ronnie Baseball.
- 1:29:54'S a good pick. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:29:59Maybe I I not that I would vote for this, but maybe like a Pete
- 1:30:04Alonzo no. Right.
- 1:30:08I mean, coming off of his 2023, why wouldn't you go Acuna?
- 1:30:12I mean, that's this got to be the easiest pick in history, no?
- 1:30:17Give me Lord Farquaad. Give me a Corbin Byrne or Corbin
- 1:30:21Carroll. Carroll That's AI like that.
- 1:30:23Cover. That'd be fun.
- 1:30:26I like that pic. Lord Farquaad, I think you need.
- 1:30:30I think. I think you need a little more
- 1:30:32substance. I think you need a little.
- 1:30:34Man, is that a short. Joke.
- 1:30:38No, it's not a short joke. I'm serious.
- 1:30:41Because Corbett, we love Gordon Carroll on this podcast.
- 1:30:44But there's you run the risk of that turning into like another
- 1:30:47jazz situation where it kind of, you know he he flames out next
- 1:30:51year and has to pick himself back up the following year.
- 1:30:54You need a guy that you can fully count on.
- 1:30:56It's. Give me an Adolis Garcia just
- 1:31:04zoomed in on his bicep. You don't even see his face.
- 1:31:07He's just flexing. It's a blue jersey, bunch of
- 1:31:10tats. And you're like, I think that's
- 1:31:12a Dulles. That'll do it.
- 1:31:18Perfect three hours later. Three hours later.
- 1:31:22Anybody that hang hung on this long, You must be single.
- 1:31:27Love you much love you, much appreciate you all.
- 1:31:30Check out the YouTube subscribe please.
- 1:31:32Trying to reach our goal of 2K before the end of the year, so
- 1:31:35me and all help would be appreciated and you will hear
- 1:31:40from us. We should mix in a little
- 1:31:41giveaway or something. We'll something for that.
- 1:31:43What do you think? Yeah, we'll think on it.
- 1:31:45Maybe we'll think on it and have an announcement next week for a
- 1:31:48little. Giveaway, Yeah, yeah.
- 1:31:49Also, we need to get to a change up.
- 1:31:51You're right, we're going to mix that in.
- 1:31:53We're we're due, but if you don't hear from us with that,
- 1:31:56you'll hear from us talking ball next week.
- 1:32:00You got it. Good stuff, Ebenezer.
- 1:32:06Don't go chasing curveballs.
