- 0:09Speaker 1: Okay, what's going on here? JB for Front Office Unfiltered.
- 0:13Speaker 1: We've got the top three on the athletic big Board
- 0:15Speaker 1: that has not been signed yet. Ken Rosenthal or colleague
- 0:18Speaker 1: over there pointed out in here six of the top
- 0:21Speaker 1: nine not signed yet. I believe it's twenty of the
- 0:24Speaker 1: top fifty. We're about a month away from an early
- 0:27Speaker 1: spring training that's starting for the World Baseball Classic.
- 0:30Speaker 2: What's going to happen here?
- 0:32Speaker 3: Yeah, So one thing we have to keep in mind
- 0:34Speaker 3: is when Juan Soto got seven hundred and sixty five
- 0:37Speaker 3: million from the Mets a year ago and Vladimir Guerrero
- 0:40Speaker 3: got five hundred million from the Blue Jays, there was
- 0:43Speaker 3: a lot of thought that those contracts would pull everybody up,
- 0:46Speaker 3: and what we've kind of found out is that's not
- 0:49Speaker 3: the case. They're being treated as an aberration, as one off.
- 0:52Speaker 3: So I think Kyle Tucker's representatives, led by Casey Close,
- 0:56Speaker 3: we're looking for ten to twelve years between four hundred
- 0:59Speaker 3: and five million based on the Guerrero signing, and I
- 1:03Speaker 3: think because of the injury, because of other factors, that
- 1:07Speaker 3: market is never developed or hasn't as of yet. With
- 1:10Speaker 3: Kyle Tucker, the other thing that's happened to Kyle Tucker
- 1:14Speaker 3: is the New York teams are not in on him.
- 1:16Speaker 3: You know, Yankees are chasing Bellinger. If they don't get Bellinger,
- 1:20Speaker 3: they're not going to pivot to Tucker. They don't believe that,
- 1:23Speaker 3: you know, how well handle New York. I've heard the
- 1:26Speaker 3: same thing about the Mets view of Kyle Tucker as well.
- 1:28Speaker 3: That takes two big markets out, so you know what
- 1:32Speaker 3: some of these agents are looking at.
- 1:34Speaker 2: You know, we had the Schwarber.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Sign the Alonso signing, but Bregman's not getting the long term.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Offer yet that he's looking for.
- 1:42Speaker 3: There are teams concerned abo Bishett in terms of you know,
- 1:45Speaker 3: not having the bat speed or the barrel percentage, some
- 1:47Speaker 3: of the analytics in terms of how he'll age even
- 1:50Speaker 3: though he's only twenty seven years old. So you have
- 1:53Speaker 3: a lot of different evaluation processes going on. You have
- 1:56Speaker 3: a lot of big contracts on the board. For example,
- 1:58Speaker 3: Dylan SE's got two hundred million from Toronto. That's what
- 2:02Speaker 3: fran Bervaldez was expecting. Franfra hasn't gotten that. Rangers Sworez.
- 2:07Speaker 3: You know, look, I think the Baltimorials are going to
- 2:09Speaker 3: probably end up signing him. They're working hard to do it,
- 2:11Speaker 3: but they're asking for a lot because he only has
- 2:13Speaker 3: seven hundred and sixty eight innings on his odometer arm.
- 2:16Speaker 3: He's very young, right in his twenties. Zach Gallen's coming
- 2:20Speaker 3: off the worst year of his career. What's the reason
- 2:24Speaker 3: for that? Mechanics, the pressure of the free agent year?
- 2:26Speaker 3: What is the solution there? So there's a lot of
- 2:30Speaker 3: issues with each of these guys, but I have no
- 2:33Speaker 3: problem with this dripping into January.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Like the Foul.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Territory ratings are going to continue to go up because
- 2:40Speaker 3: we have all these free agents out there, We're going
- 2:42Speaker 3: to have a month of great signings that are going
- 2:44Speaker 3: to be covered here as well as anybody in the sport.
- 2:47Speaker 2: So for all of us, this is great that it's
- 2:49Speaker 2: dragged on.
- 2:51Speaker 4: I agree, Jim. I just don't want to have producer
- 2:53Speaker 4: Lady makes them stupid. Where will Bo go? Or where
- 2:56Speaker 4: will Kyle go? You know front end where she has
- 2:58Speaker 4: the music that she loves to play, and they know
- 3:00Speaker 4: annoys the crap out of me. So I'm happy that
- 3:02Speaker 4: the signings drag on, right because the signings dragging on
- 3:05Speaker 4: are good because people are still talking baseball even though
- 3:08Speaker 4: it's NFL playoffs and NBA is in the middle of
- 3:11Speaker 4: the season in NHL and all this stuff is going on,
- 3:13Speaker 4: people are still talking about baseball and all these cities.
- 3:15Speaker 5: It is a good thing.
- 3:16Speaker 4: So I am tired of people saying, oh, we should
- 3:19Speaker 4: January first, there should be a signing deadline. Okay, let's
- 3:21Speaker 4: say January first is the signing deadline. And then one
- 3:25Speaker 4: of your guy your pitchers is thrown in the offseason,
- 3:27Speaker 4: goes oh, and there's Zach Gallan sitting out there. You
- 3:30Speaker 4: can't go signing because the signings have already happened. Like,
- 3:33Speaker 4: I'm against that. But what I want to know is
- 3:35Speaker 4: is we've talked Tucker, We've talked with Shit Bregman. We
- 3:38Speaker 4: think everyone kind of thinks he's gonna go back to
- 3:40Speaker 4: the to the Red Sox. But Cody Bellinger has been
- 3:43Speaker 4: in the news more than probably anybody that I've seen,
- 3:46Speaker 4: because it's like, is it just a New York battle
- 3:49Speaker 4: for Cody Bellinger? Is it just Mets Yankees? Because that's
- 3:52Speaker 4: what I keep seeing every time I look on my
- 3:54Speaker 4: social media. It's like the Mets won him, the Yankees
- 3:56Speaker 4: won him. Is it gonna be a big Apple battle
- 3:58Speaker 4: for Cody Bellinger.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know.
- 4:00Speaker 3: I mean, look, I think the Yankees have put a
- 4:03Speaker 3: value on him, They've made an offer on him. He's
- 4:05Speaker 3: been their priority this offseason. They're also in on Bobachett
- 4:10Speaker 3: as kind of the pivot if they don't get Bellinger,
- 4:12Speaker 3: because they feel their lineup is too left handed. They'd
- 4:15Speaker 3: like to get a right hand bat. And of course
- 4:17Speaker 3: Bashett could play second and Chisholm could get moved over
- 4:19Speaker 3: to third, or Chishm could get traded for that matter.
- 4:22Speaker 3: But Belly is a very important part of that team.
- 4:24Speaker 3: I don't think their soul on Jason Dominguez or Spencer
- 4:27Speaker 3: Jones at this point. So they've got Judge, They've got Grisham.
- 4:30Speaker 3: I think they would really like to have Belly. That
- 4:32Speaker 3: would protect him all over the outfield as well as
- 4:35Speaker 3: first base as well. I don't know who else is
- 4:37Speaker 3: in there. I mean, I have a hard time believing
- 4:39Speaker 3: David Stearns is going to give him the five year
- 4:42Speaker 3: deal he wouldn't give Pete Alonzo. I'm not sure how
- 4:44Speaker 3: that's how that's going to sell at the podium, to
- 4:47Speaker 3: be honest, there could be a mystery team on Bellinger,
- 4:50Speaker 3: but he might not want to go there. You know,
- 4:51Speaker 3: I've heard whispers about the Pittsburgh Pirates, who have had
- 4:54Speaker 3: a very good offseason improving their offense. Bellinger would be
- 4:57Speaker 3: a huge jump for them. I'm not hearing reunion with
- 5:00Speaker 3: the Dodgers, although I've heard that Bellinger would like to
- 5:03Speaker 3: go back if he doesn't end up in New York,
- 5:05Speaker 3: that LA would be a choice for him, But I
- 5:08Speaker 3: kind of think his first choice would be to stay
- 5:11Speaker 3: in New York. So I think that's why we really
- 5:13Speaker 3: haven't heard a lot after that. But again, the Bores
- 5:16Speaker 3: Corporation can be very under the radar. They love surprising
- 5:19Speaker 3: the media and the fans with last minute moves on
- 5:22Speaker 3: teams that never leaked out. So you know, we just
- 5:25Speaker 3: got to be patient and wait. In terms of Pregnant,
- 5:27Speaker 3: I don't think it's a slam Donkey goes back to Boston.
- 5:29Speaker 3: I do think both the Cubs and Diamondbacks are still
- 5:32Speaker 3: in there. And remember this, and you guys know this,
- 5:34Speaker 3: like everybody could have a similar offer on the table,
- 5:37Speaker 3: but only takes one owner, one president, one GM to
- 5:40Speaker 3: get out of a bed a certain way and say,
- 5:42Speaker 3: you know, what I'm going to do an extra year,
- 5:44Speaker 3: an extra thirty million, and I'm going to get the
- 5:45Speaker 3: player today.
- 5:46Speaker 2: That's all.
- 5:47Speaker 3: It takes sometime. So again, I don't think anything's a
- 5:50Speaker 3: slam dunk until it's officially announced or leaked to John Hayman.
- 5:55Speaker 5: One of the things I always knows about the catching market.
- 5:59Speaker 5: I like that joke. By the way I hit it.
- 6:01Speaker 5: I heard to laugh and I should have reacted better.
- 6:03Speaker 5: But what is JT real Mito's actual market? And does
- 6:10Speaker 5: it really matter? Because isn't he just going to go
- 6:12Speaker 5: back to the Phillies with whatever offer he gets and
- 6:15Speaker 5: then the Middletons are going to say, yes, we still
- 6:19Speaker 5: want you to be our guy.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so.
- 6:22Speaker 3: It's hard to you guys know, it's hard to get
- 6:25Speaker 3: a pay cut, right. I mean a lot of us
- 6:27Speaker 3: have had to do it in our careers. It's never
- 6:29Speaker 3: fun to do it. It's harder to do that deal
- 6:32Speaker 3: when you know it's going to be cut. And when
- 6:33Speaker 3: you're thirty five years old and the numbers say you're
- 6:36Speaker 3: aging and declining, you can't deny it.
- 6:39Speaker 2: You're just not going to get paid at that level.
- 6:41Speaker 3: So you're still trying to get respectable contract, and so
- 6:45Speaker 3: you grind it out and you look at all the
- 6:46Speaker 3: different options. I think if he had a better option,
- 6:49Speaker 3: he would have taken it. I think he needs to
- 6:51Speaker 3: go back to the Phillies. I think the Phillies need
- 6:53Speaker 3: him as much as he needs the Phillies. I think
- 6:56Speaker 3: is a very important person on that team, with that
- 6:59Speaker 3: pitching staff that he knows so well. They have a
- 7:01Speaker 3: great relationship. He has a great relationship with Rob Thompson,
- 7:05Speaker 3: the manager. So you know, I think JT. But it's business,
- 7:08Speaker 3: you guys know, and you want your agents to grind.
- 7:10Speaker 3: You want to get This could be the last contract
- 7:13Speaker 3: he gets, right, it could be a two year deal
- 7:15Speaker 3: worth thirty six million, but the extra million or two,
- 7:19Speaker 3: you know, if this is the last time he works
- 7:21Speaker 3: in his life, possibly, you know, he wants it to
- 7:23Speaker 3: be as the biggest number that he can possibly get.
- 7:26Speaker 3: So I don't know what the other options are in
- 7:29Speaker 3: terms of trading. I know the Phillies have inquired about
- 7:32Speaker 3: other catchers on other teams. I've never heard any traction
- 7:35Speaker 3: on any deal that way, so I think it's something
- 7:38Speaker 3: we're monitoring. But if I had to guess, and it's
- 7:40Speaker 3: only a guess at some point he'll return to Philadelphia
- 7:43Speaker 3: on a one or two.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Year deal makes sense, and weah, what's one or two
- 7:47Speaker 4: more million for the contracts he's already signed. If he's
- 7:50Speaker 4: comfortable there, then go back and enjoy your time with
- 7:52Speaker 4: Kyle Schwarburn, Bryce Harbor. I get it, Jim. I want
- 7:55Speaker 4: to know about the Pirates. Okay, the Pirates have signed O'Hearn,
- 7:58Speaker 4: they've done all these things, and they're in the Gino
- 8:02Speaker 4: Suarez sweepstakes. Did Bob Nutting just find a money tree
- 8:06Speaker 4: somewhere miraculously and say, hey, you know what, guys, there's
- 8:09Speaker 4: pressure on me, and I found this money tree, so
- 8:11Speaker 4: I'm gonna start spending my money. Why haven't they done
- 8:14Speaker 4: this in the past. Is it because they have Skins
- 8:16Speaker 4: and Jones and Bubba Chandler and all these guys that
- 8:18Speaker 4: are lined up, and now they finally think this is
- 8:20Speaker 4: their chance to pounce on an NL central. Why why
- 8:23Speaker 4: have the Pirates all of a sudden found this free
- 8:25Speaker 4: money that they never had for all these years? Or
- 8:28Speaker 4: is it because there's a collective bargaining session coming up
- 8:31Speaker 4: and then Bob Nutting and the Pirates can say, look,
- 8:35Speaker 4: the Pirates can't spend money. We don't need a cap.
- 8:37Speaker 4: They just have to do it at the right time.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's both.
- 8:41Speaker 3: I mean, I think the reality is set in that
- 8:44Speaker 3: you're not gonna have Paul Skeens much longer, and if
- 8:47Speaker 3: you want to try to win, your window of winning
- 8:49Speaker 3: is going to be when Skeens is part of this rotation.
- 8:52Speaker 3: I think they believe, and they should, that they have
- 8:54Speaker 3: a rotation that can win a division in the NL Central.
- 8:58Speaker 3: And I think they're accurate. If Jared Jones comes back
- 9:00Speaker 3: and was the guy prior to the injury, and you
- 9:02Speaker 3: got to get Skiing some runs. We can't keep watching
- 9:05Speaker 3: the Pirates score one run, no runs, or two runs
- 9:08Speaker 3: every time Skiens takes them ound. So I think the
- 9:11Speaker 3: clamoring has been so loud for several years, but they
- 9:15Speaker 3: see that, Look, if they just get a mediocre offense,
- 9:18Speaker 3: they've got a chance to win more than they lose
- 9:20Speaker 3: and at least be in the conversation come September. And
- 9:23Speaker 3: I think they've accomplished that. And I think we should
- 9:25Speaker 3: credit Bob Nutting and Ben Charrington for trying this offseason.
- 9:29Speaker 3: The trade for Brandon Lole with thirty one home runs
- 9:31Speaker 3: last year, the trade for Ryan O'Hearn, who's coming off
- 9:34Speaker 3: the best offensive season of his career, the trade for
- 9:37Speaker 3: the prospect from the Red Sox, the outfielder Garcia who
- 9:40Speaker 3: should be able to make this team as a starting
- 9:42Speaker 3: outfielder out of spring training, and the rookie Connor Griffin,
- 9:46Speaker 3: who could end up being Rookie of the Year. He's
- 9:47Speaker 3: ultra talented and not sure he's major league ready. But
- 9:50Speaker 3: that's four new guys to your lineup. That's going to
- 9:52Speaker 3: make O'Neil Cruz better, that's going to make Brian Reynolds better.
- 9:55Speaker 3: And again, we're just looking for an offense that was
- 9:58Speaker 3: last in baseball and run scored, lasting home runs to
- 10:02Speaker 3: be at least enough respectable that you have a chance
- 10:04Speaker 3: to win more than they lose. So baseball wise, they
- 10:07Speaker 3: had to do it.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Now.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Your last issue, I believe one hundred percent has a
- 10:10Speaker 3: lot to do with some of the factors that we're
- 10:13Speaker 3: seeing this offseason, and that is the realization of all
- 10:16Speaker 3: thirty teams that we're going to have a floor in
- 10:19Speaker 3: the next negotiations of a CBA. We're gonna have a floor.
- 10:23Speaker 3: I believe we're going to have a cap too. I
- 10:25Speaker 3: think we're going to have a range. It's not going
- 10:28Speaker 3: to ever be equal. The big markets are always going
- 10:30Speaker 3: to have more money. But I think the players clearly
- 10:33Speaker 3: understand that the other sports are getting more revenue than
- 10:36Speaker 3: the baseball teams are. The NFL and NBA players are
- 10:40Speaker 3: getting more of a share than baseball players are. That's
- 10:42Speaker 3: not right. The players at the very league should be
- 10:45Speaker 3: getting fifty percent of the revenues, and they're not right now.
- 10:47Speaker 2: And so one of the ways you have to fix it.
- 10:49Speaker 2: You got to have a floor. You've got to.
- 10:50Speaker 3: Make Miami in Pittsburgh, and you got to make these
- 10:53Speaker 3: teams spend. And you don't want to be in a
- 10:55Speaker 3: position where you have to spend all at once. All
- 10:57Speaker 3: of a sudden you get a new CBA and you
- 10:58Speaker 3: got to spend at once. So you might as well
- 11:00Speaker 3: the year prior start to spend a little bit. Let
- 11:02Speaker 3: the Marlin spend thirteen mil on Fairbanks. Let the Pirates
- 11:06Speaker 3: spend a little money on Lao and Ohearn and start
- 11:10Speaker 3: to get that up a little bit now instead of waiting.
- 11:13Speaker 3: And at the same time, some of the big market
- 11:15Speaker 3: teams that haven't spent a lot of money, some of them.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Some have, but some haven't. Some of those teams don't
- 11:21Speaker 3: want to be a runaway training right now not knowing
- 11:23Speaker 3: what this next CBA is going to look like.
- 11:26Speaker 4: Okay, you can talk about the Red Sox and Yankees
- 11:29Speaker 4: not signing a free agent. That's fine, we get a gym.
- 11:33Speaker 4: It's okay, Well you can say their names, we understand.
- 11:35Speaker 4: But again it goes back to this though. The Pirates
- 11:37Speaker 4: obviously have money, so why I get now because of
- 11:40Speaker 4: the CBA. But is it just because they have Paul
- 11:43Speaker 4: Schemes and just because they have Chandler, just because they
- 11:46Speaker 4: have Jared Jones and Mitch Keller. Is that why now
- 11:48Speaker 4: all of a sudden they're like, oh, look we have
- 11:49Speaker 4: to do something, or has the fan noise and the
- 11:53Speaker 4: clamoring at Bob Nunning and the Pirates front office finally
- 11:56Speaker 4: got to them. I get the CBA side of it,
- 11:58Speaker 4: but as a fan, you know their opening day payroll
- 12:01Speaker 4: is still similar to where it was around last year.
- 12:03Speaker 4: But still aren't they like the fans finally won one
- 12:06Speaker 4: here because the Pirates are ye somewhat trying.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Yes, the fans have won was heard and by the way,
- 12:13Speaker 3: Ben Sherrington's voice was heard in Bob Nutting's office. Remember
- 12:17Speaker 3: Ben Sherrington won a World championship as a GM of
- 12:19Speaker 3: the Boston Red Sox. Spent a lot of money there.
- 12:22Speaker 3: He understands what it takes to win the championship. He's
- 12:25Speaker 3: not over in Pittsburgh telling Bob Nutting don't spend money.
- 12:29Speaker 3: He's in that office. He wants to keep his job.
- 12:32Speaker 3: He doesn't want to have their reputation of being a
- 12:35Speaker 3: non competitive GM. So he's in there screaming and yelling.
- 12:38Speaker 3: And look, it's not like the Pirates have gone out
- 12:40Speaker 3: and spend big money. But they did make the big
- 12:42Speaker 3: offer on Schwarber. Okay, wasn't big enough, but they did
- 12:46Speaker 3: do that. But at least they are making moves and
- 12:48Speaker 3: getting better. So, you know, did Bob Nutting wake up
- 12:51Speaker 3: on the other side of the bed. I don't think so.
- 12:53Speaker 3: But I do think the clamoring and the noise and
- 12:57Speaker 3: the baseball argument that our starting pitching is that good
- 13:01Speaker 3: if we can score runs, I think that's resonating. And
- 13:04Speaker 3: I think the Pirates are tired of all the hatred
- 13:07Speaker 3: from fans. They're tired of fans not coming to the ballpark.
- 13:12Speaker 3: When Paul Skeins isn't pitching, so they've had a fun
- 13:15Speaker 3: offseason and I think we should be celebrating it rather
- 13:18Speaker 3: than complaining about what they've done in the past. Let's
- 13:20Speaker 3: just celebrate what they've done this offseason. Yin's in Pittsburgh
- 13:24Speaker 3: and let's buy Primati Brothers sandwich is that don't taste
- 13:27Speaker 3: good with the fries and cole slab, but we can
- 13:29Speaker 3: all pretend they do. And Iron City beer that's terrible.
- 13:32Speaker 3: We can pretend it's good for at least one offseason.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Let's just do it.
- 13:38Speaker 5: Wow, shots across the river, I mean they always playing
- 13:41Speaker 5: the cannon. I mean Jim just went down the river
- 13:44Speaker 5: with shooting shooting cannonballs into Pittsburgh. I like it though. Anyway,
- 13:50Speaker 5: let's get to it. Let's get to your list of
- 13:52Speaker 5: most improved teams from this offseason. Number one on your list.
- 13:56Speaker 5: I don't know if it's number one in your power
- 13:57Speaker 5: rankings or most improved, but it's the Orioles who always
- 14:01Speaker 5: go out and get offense in the offseason, and it
- 14:03Speaker 5: didn't work last year. Have they done enough without because
- 14:06Speaker 5: your caveat in the article said Valdez or Rangers Suarez.
- 14:12Speaker 5: Have they done enough and are they a better team
- 14:16Speaker 5: just because they're hoping some of their pitching is going
- 14:19Speaker 5: to come back in Bradish and Trevor Rodgers is going
- 14:22Speaker 5: to continue a second half resurgence.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Okay, I want to start on the offensive side with
- 14:28Speaker 3: the Orioles adding seventy four home runs with Pete Alonzo
- 14:31Speaker 3: and Taylor Ward, that changes this offense without a doubt.
- 14:37Speaker 3: I believe both players are legitimately that kind of power,
- 14:40Speaker 3: and I think the Oriols should expect that kind of
- 14:42Speaker 3: power from both of them. And so it's the force
- 14:44Speaker 3: multiplier with those acquisitions that gets me excited about the
- 14:48Speaker 3: Orioles because the forced multiplier, to me is the fact
- 14:53Speaker 3: that that's going to take the pressure off Gunner Henderson
- 14:55Speaker 3: at the Rutchman, Jackson Holliday, Jordan Westbrook, Colton Kowser, Sam
- 14:59Speaker 3: besides a Rutchman, it takes all the pressure off of them.
- 15:03Speaker 3: I think it's going to make them better offensively, and
- 15:05Speaker 3: that corps is really good and they've never reached their potential.
- 15:09Speaker 3: I talked to Craig Albernez, the manager of the Baltimore Orioles,
- 15:12Speaker 3: yesterday morning, and he said that he looked at the
- 15:15Speaker 3: force Multiplier more about games played. I said, what do
- 15:18Speaker 3: you mean. He said, well, Alonzo an award. They play
- 15:20Speaker 3: every day. And he said, I want all these young
- 15:23Speaker 3: Oriole players to see you're supposed to play every day,
- 15:28Speaker 3: and they're going to set that example. And he said,
- 15:30Speaker 3: I think that's going to help the young Oriole players
- 15:33Speaker 3: want to play hurt more.
- 15:34Speaker 2: I like the depth they have.
- 15:35Speaker 3: I like the fact that on the bench is Kobe
- 15:38Speaker 3: Mayo or Ryan Mountcastle or Tyler O'Neal if he's not starting,
- 15:42Speaker 3: or Dylan Beavers if he's not starting. They have built
- 15:45Speaker 3: really good depth at every position. They're prepared for injuries,
- 15:49Speaker 3: and I think their offense is going to be one
- 15:51Speaker 3: of the best offenses in the American League in twenty
- 15:54Speaker 3: twenty six. I think the young corep is going to
- 15:56Speaker 3: take a huge jump forward and have just as much
- 15:59Speaker 3: impact as the acquisitions of Alonzo and Ward. Now I'll
- 16:03Speaker 3: get to the part of can they contend. Can they
- 16:06Speaker 3: be in October team? It depends if they're done with
- 16:09Speaker 3: their pitching, which they can't be. That's the biggest question.
- 16:12Speaker 3: It will continue to be the big question. If I'm them,
- 16:15Speaker 3: I'm getting Frambervaldez and Ranger Swrez. Now they're not going
- 16:18Speaker 3: to do both, but I think they are going to
- 16:19Speaker 3: do one. It doesn't sound like it's Baldez from my sources.
- 16:23Speaker 3: It sounds like it's Ranger Sorez, and it sounds like
- 16:26Speaker 3: they have been very aggressive and are strongly in. They
- 16:28Speaker 3: haven't been able to close the deal, but they kind
- 16:31Speaker 3: of feel like they have a chance. We'll have to
- 16:33Speaker 3: wait and see. But that's gonna be the question about
- 16:36Speaker 3: how far Baltimore goes. It's not going to be about
- 16:38Speaker 3: the lineup, the offense or the defense. It's going to
- 16:41Speaker 3: be how far can the pitching come and also what
- 16:44Speaker 3: can they do with the back end.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Look.
- 16:45Speaker 3: I like the Helsey and Kitchens signings, but why was
- 16:48Speaker 3: Helsey's fastball hit so hard last year? Was that release point?
- 16:52Speaker 3: Was that arm angle that needs to be adjusted? We
- 16:55Speaker 3: know it's a wipeout break and ball, We get that,
- 16:58Speaker 3: but he's gonna have to figure out that fastball so
- 17:00Speaker 3: it's not so hittable. Can Helzy come back and be
- 17:04Speaker 3: the impact closer he was in Saint Louis? He didn't
- 17:06Speaker 3: look good with New York. Was that a New York thing?
- 17:08Speaker 3: Was that a mechanical thing? I don't know, but pitching's
- 17:11Speaker 3: going to determine what Baltimore can do. Look right now,
- 17:14Speaker 3: I still probably have him in fourth place in the
- 17:17Speaker 3: AL East. But if they if the pitching comes through,
- 17:20Speaker 3: if Rogers is the real deal, if Kramer come back,
- 17:22Speaker 3: Bratus comes back, you sign Rangers Suarez, then can I
- 17:25Speaker 3: see this team in the postseason in October?
- 17:28Speaker 2: Yeah, they got a chance.
- 17:30Speaker 4: That's a lot of ifs, so jim a lot of Like,
- 17:33Speaker 4: since you're crapping on Pittsburgh today, not the team the city.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Did you see the game last night where the priest
- 17:38Speaker 4: blessed the field and then the guy for the Ravens
- 17:41Speaker 4: missed the field goal? Like, did USC try that against TCU?
- 17:45Speaker 4: Or do they forget to bring the priest in?
- 17:47Speaker 3: Or yeah they forgot, But the Pirates should bring the
- 17:49Speaker 3: priest in and see if it can work for baseball too, right,
- 17:52Speaker 3: I mean without a doubt. And by the way, I
- 17:55Speaker 3: have I have a son that lives in Pittsburgh. I
- 17:57Speaker 3: spent years in Pittsburgh, started my baseball career there, So
- 18:01Speaker 3: I love Yin's.
- 18:02Speaker 2: I love the mon on Gehiela in the Ohio. Look,
- 18:05Speaker 2: that is a great ballpark. I enjoy it. I'm not
- 18:08Speaker 2: making fun of them.
- 18:09Speaker 3: I'm just talking real and I'm glad that they're doing
- 18:11Speaker 3: things to try to win.
- 18:12Speaker 5: Now.
- 18:13Speaker 3: In terms of Mike Tomlin never had a losing record
- 18:17Speaker 3: all these years and he won ten games with that team.
- 18:20Speaker 3: He is simply amazing. And by the way, why not
- 18:22Speaker 3: give the ball to Derrick Henry have him run a
- 18:25Speaker 3: little bit to the left so you can set up
- 18:27Speaker 3: that field goal on the hash mark instead of straight
- 18:30Speaker 3: shot that would have gone through for a field goal.
- 18:32Speaker 3: I don't understand why they didn't run one more play
- 18:35Speaker 3: with Derrick Henry.
- 18:36Speaker 2: I thought it was foolish. But congrats to the Steelers.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Nice football expert.
- 18:41Speaker 4: Yeah, and he forgot the USC the USC thing, so
- 18:44Speaker 4: it's fine.
- 18:45Speaker 3: USC great two transfers today, Devin Bryant the linebacker, John
- 18:49Speaker 3: Tez Williams the cornerback, the best cornerback probably in the portal,
- 18:53Speaker 3: both of them going to USC. And they got Torell
- 18:56Speaker 3: Anderson today, the wide receiver from the NC State. So
- 18:59Speaker 3: a big bit, big day for USC football. Thanks for
- 19:02Speaker 3: bringing that up, Big.
- 19:02Speaker 1: J and for the GM Chad Bowden for anyone who
- 19:06Speaker 1: doesn't know the context there, JB. Great long catchup, we
- 19:09Speaker 1: needed it. Happy New Year to you and we'll talk
- 19:12Speaker 1: to you next week.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Thanks guys,
