- 1:51Speaker 1: Glad to have you with us here on a Monday.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Robert Sessna is here, Rusty person is here. We were
- 1:58Speaker 1: just talking before we went on about Coach Elko being
- 2:02Speaker 1: in a great mood today. I said, hey, when you're eight, no,
- 2:04Speaker 1: you can do that.
- 2:06Speaker 8: So made you know that works, Chris. You know if
- 2:08Speaker 8: you're doing well, you know everything goes in place.
- 2:11Speaker 1: There we go.
- 2:11Speaker 8: People go ahead and they were dressed up like Mike Elko,
- 2:15Speaker 8: which is nice because the people dressed up like you freeze.
- 2:17Speaker 8: It wasn't quite the same.
- 2:19Speaker 1: With the tea time.
- 2:20Speaker 3: I was at the volleyball game Friday night. It was
- 2:23Speaker 3: a lot of fun. I mean it was atmosphere wise,
- 2:26Speaker 3: it was the first volleyball game I've gone to in
- 2:28Speaker 3: a long time. Cool, but I picked it out it Yeah,
- 2:32Speaker 3: I mean, see Bucky there and Coachko. There was no
- 2:37Speaker 3: Bucky McMillan was there. And so I'm looking forward tonight
- 2:42Speaker 3: Star Value Basket.
- 2:43Speaker 1: It's going to be chaotic.
- 2:45Speaker 3: That's fun, you know what. I just I don't really
- 2:49Speaker 3: care about the results this year. I mean, I hope
- 2:52Speaker 3: hopefully they get better and better as the season progresses.
- 2:57Speaker 3: But I'm excited to see see therand.
- 3:00Speaker 1: The best players on the court at the same time,
- 3:02Speaker 1: and that may be a little lot.
- 3:04Speaker 3: I want to see guys who are shooting to actually
- 3:07Speaker 3: make it in the basket as.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Opposed to get a rebound.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Get a rebound, yeah off a misshot and predictable shots
- 3:14Speaker 3: and anyway, so I am just looking forward to a
- 3:18Speaker 3: near new era.
- 3:20Speaker 1: And I don't know if you heard, but they've they've
- 3:22Speaker 1: stolen the Las Vegas and il tournament back away for
- 3:26Speaker 1: next year. From from good good good good.
- 3:30Speaker 8: So you're making a rip to having the three best
- 3:32Speaker 8: shooting players on the court. That's well, just the.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Three best players. I mean, not necessarily the best shooters.
- 3:38Speaker 1: But but but you know, Ronin Griffin's the only one
- 3:40Speaker 1: that's been healthy. You know, Pop Isaac's is a game
- 3:43Speaker 1: time decision, and I do expect to see him for
- 3:45Speaker 1: a little bit. And Bacco is going to be a
- 3:48Speaker 1: little while longer. So you know, it may be January
- 3:52Speaker 1: to your point, Rusty, or maybe even in the February
- 3:56Speaker 1: before we see like the potential of what they quite.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Frankly, they're not playing a real hard schedule. Yeah. So,
- 4:05Speaker 3: but but that's okay with this team, you know.
- 4:07Speaker 8: And not not for me.
- 4:08Speaker 1: It's not not for what they're charging for prices. It's
- 4:11Speaker 1: not okay, it is not the thing is now I.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Pay for them, and and you don't, and so but
- 4:17Speaker 3: but I do, and I think it's it's with the
- 4:20Speaker 3: first year coach.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I'm okay with that. Look, they play some decent games,
- 4:24Speaker 1: they're just not here, right. I Mean, it's not that
- 4:27Speaker 1: the whole non conference schedule is terrible. They play some
- 4:31Speaker 1: good games, they just don't play them here.
- 4:34Speaker 3: No, But I mean once they start SEC play, it's
- 4:36Speaker 3: still gonna be sc I get that. That's why I
- 4:39Speaker 3: paid for it. I wasn't excited about paying more than
- 4:42Speaker 3: we did last year, but that's that's the way things go.
- 4:46Speaker 3: They got to pay for those players. Now, you know, I.
- 4:48Speaker 8: Thought you were making a reference to sometimes the buzz
- 4:51Speaker 8: would take the hot shooter out of the game, and
- 4:53Speaker 8: oh he would sit them down, and you're thinking, like,
- 4:55Speaker 8: why is on the on the bench he would do that?
- 4:58Speaker 8: You were doing that.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Now. I didn't do that, but I could.
- 5:01Speaker 8: You could have.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I could have. I could have.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Well, I didn't mean to steal the basketball.
- 5:06Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, it's opening night.
- 5:08Speaker 8: But I kind of kind of agree with with the chip.
- 5:11Speaker 8: If you gotta go ahead and get I looked at
- 5:14Speaker 8: the schedule, like you said, to go to Oklahoma State.
- 5:16Speaker 8: They got some good games on the road, but you
- 5:19Speaker 8: gotta get and even if they lose, you got to
- 5:21Speaker 8: give your team, your fans, good opponents.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 5:24Speaker 3: I would love to have a Marquee name in here,
- 5:27Speaker 3: but it doesn't bother me that they're playing Northwestern State,
- 5:30Speaker 3: And I see.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Your point, you know, because you have to play Northwestern states. Yeah,
- 5:35Speaker 1: that's not my point.
- 5:36Speaker 3: You have to, especially with no guys that there were.
- 5:39Speaker 1: There's no that that part of it to me doesn't
- 5:43Speaker 1: figure in this is this is what figure And again
- 5:46Speaker 1: you say, hey, I wrote the check. That's fine.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Bus Best had a very experienced team last year and
- 5:52Speaker 3: get it, and he get a very schedule.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I get all of that. But but this is Texas,
- 5:57Speaker 1: freaking a n M. They should be able to get
- 6:02Speaker 1: a team you've heard of to come to this arena
- 6:05Speaker 1: and play well.
- 6:06Speaker 3: And I can see both sides so I can't. Yeah,
- 6:09Speaker 3: well that's fine, I mean, but again, I think it's
- 6:13Speaker 3: gonna be fun fun to watch this guy of Brown.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Basketball, not saying it's not. I think it will be fun.
- 6:19Speaker 1: It's going to be really different, and it is going
- 6:22Speaker 1: to be cho I.
- 6:23Speaker 3: Means, like even last year when they won, it was
- 6:26Speaker 3: it was you walked out of the arena going that
- 6:30Speaker 3: was boring, that was just ugly.
- 6:33Speaker 1: That was just ugly, ugly, ugly, And there was neighbor
- 6:37Speaker 1: I would argue. I would argue that there were a
- 6:40Speaker 1: lot of Billy Clyde Gillespie games that were just as.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Yeah, you're You're exactly right. But I think winning was
- 6:47Speaker 3: so new at that time on in.
- 6:50Speaker 1: BASKETA it didn't matter.
- 6:51Speaker 3: It didn't matter how ugly it was, I get it.
- 6:53Speaker 3: What But so then you had some really good players
- 6:57Speaker 3: come in, and so with with buzz, he didn't recruit
- 7:01Speaker 3: the really good players. He recruited the really good guys
- 7:04Speaker 3: who I mean, they busted their tails that you couldn't
- 7:07Speaker 3: help but love them, right, yes, but they But I
- 7:10Speaker 3: always I always make the correlation. If I was going
- 7:13Speaker 3: to put a golf team together, I'd want a couple
- 7:16Speaker 3: guys who could putt like they have nobody who could
- 7:19Speaker 3: put They're like the King of three putts. They lead
- 7:22Speaker 3: the nation in offensive rebounding because they missed more shots
- 7:25Speaker 3: than anybody.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Right, you mean the guys who hit the.
- 7:27Speaker 8: Three hundred and fifty yard drives as well. But how
- 7:30Speaker 8: could you not like a team to get eighty seven
- 7:32Speaker 8: percent of the rebound the rim?
- 7:36Speaker 1: Amen? Amen? Al right, there we go. We got that.
- 7:40Speaker 3: We covered basketball. We did.
- 7:42Speaker 1: We did well. We're obviously going to cover boards as
- 7:45Speaker 1: we proceed, because they got two home games.
- 7:47Speaker 8: It was only here on a football team here that
- 7:49Speaker 8: was halfway.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Do Yeah, if they were any good, But we could
- 7:52Speaker 1: spend time talking about them. Wow, but I want to
- 7:55Speaker 1: start hear while I'm thinking about it. I said this
- 7:57Speaker 1: the first hour, all these there's so many coaching jobs
- 8:01Speaker 1: up right now, and there's gonna be more. We're not done.
- 8:03Speaker 8: You could be gone.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I could be gone.
- 8:06Speaker 8: You could get jobs.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I think I could as I as I watched these things.
- 8:11Speaker 8: Job.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Okay, my point. You know, I like Dave Roberts won
- 8:17Speaker 1: a World Series for life this show. He was unbelievable.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Everything he did turned to gold everything, and that's not
- 8:25Speaker 1: and I get it you can't always have that. But
- 8:28Speaker 1: in seven games in the national spotlight, when everybody's you know,
- 8:33Speaker 1: questioning every single move you may, it is really hard
- 8:37Speaker 1: to find one that Dave Roberts did wrong. Okay, So
- 8:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna go from there to the Oklahoma Tennessee game
- 8:45Speaker 1: on Saturday night. Okay, I don't even know where to
- 8:50Speaker 1: start with Josh. We've we've talked about Josh Hype before. Okay,
- 8:54Speaker 1: I'm just thinking this guy is not a very good
- 8:57Speaker 1: head football coach. You give me him as offensive coordinator,
- 9:02Speaker 1: and you give me Brent Vinables as defensive coordinator, and
- 9:06Speaker 1: you get a coach that knows how to manage the
- 9:08Speaker 1: freaking game. You have a powerhouse. Why are you throwing
- 9:13Speaker 1: to a full back that haven't touched the ball all
- 9:17Speaker 1: year long? On fourth and one with the game on
- 9:20Speaker 1: the line? Why are you doing that? And Brent Vinables,
- 9:24Speaker 1: why are you throwing an inside screen with less than
- 9:28Speaker 1: four minutes left and up to scores?
- 9:31Speaker 9: No?
- 9:31Speaker 8: Why are you doing that?
- 9:32Speaker 3: None? It makes no sense at all. And I didn't
- 9:35Speaker 3: think anybody would out coach Vinables this year, but I think,
- 9:38Speaker 3: you know.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I think Josh Heipel did it.
- 9:42Speaker 3: I did, Yeah, I mean just I mean that was
- 9:44Speaker 3: just two really bad coach teams. Yes, and it was
- 9:47Speaker 3: an entertaining game because it was close, you know, but
- 9:51Speaker 3: it was still with some athletes on the field.
- 9:53Speaker 1: It was so.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Hard because I was flipping back and forth between the
- 9:56Speaker 3: World Series right, yep, and a long stretches of time.
- 10:00Speaker 3: I didn't watch anything but the World Suit. Yes, me too,
- 10:02Speaker 3: because it was so compelling. Oh gosh, it's compelling. But yeah,
- 10:07Speaker 3: from what I saw, just a bunch of bad coaching.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Holy moly, there was some bad coaching going on.
- 10:13Speaker 8: And I love when it shows hypo. He can't believe
- 10:15Speaker 8: the guy didn't catch it. You see him in the background,
- 10:17Speaker 8: and I'm laughing because why there was so many things
- 10:20Speaker 8: wrong about that play. They took that up.
- 10:23Speaker 1: It took a top, so many things.
- 10:24Speaker 8: There's a time out they could work with to come
- 10:27Speaker 8: up with that play. And then they threw it before
- 10:30Speaker 8: the guy turned and you're right hit.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Him in the face mask. It looked like he's ever
- 10:35Speaker 1: caught a passing, but he hadn't.
- 10:37Speaker 8: He hadn't run that play. He didn't know when to
- 10:38Speaker 8: turn around. It was it was like, you need one yard,
- 10:42Speaker 8: one yard, you got an option.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Coll That's the third. The third happened in Dallas with
- 10:49Speaker 1: the Seme Mustangs with that guy. We called that if
- 10:53Speaker 1: if I if I put rhtt Lashley with that Miami team, Yeah,
- 10:58Speaker 1: and and I put Krystal All with that SMU team.
- 11:02Speaker 1: That's a three touchdown game. Every day of the week.
- 11:06Speaker 3: I thought about you, especially after watching that game, because
- 11:11Speaker 3: you said, rapping the Star, I do not trust Miami.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Could you how you can?
- 11:15Speaker 8: You knew he's gonna screw up once, but to do
- 11:17Speaker 8: it twice he's done back to back years.
- 11:19Speaker 1: He doesn't lose his winning PERCENTAGEO November is like one
- 11:22Speaker 1: sixty seven.
- 11:23Speaker 3: It's terrible great, would you.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Up because it's close to that.
- 11:28Speaker 8: I'm serious.
- 11:29Speaker 3: August, September and October they're great, and then November December
- 11:32Speaker 3: they're terror awful.
- 11:34Speaker 8: I like that.
- 11:34Speaker 1: So that's a team that's not getting better, right right, exactly.
- 11:39Speaker 8: Good point. And I was surprised when I watched the
- 11:42Speaker 8: game day predictions when Saban went ahead and you could
- 11:46Speaker 8: tell you reluctantly picked Miami that he thought and you know,
- 11:49Speaker 8: he's thinking, this guy can't win the big game. He knows,
- 11:53Speaker 8: he knows it, and you could see it. But yet
- 11:55Speaker 8: he has loyalty to him because he had him on
- 11:56Speaker 8: his staff. And I kind of read the Teelee's when
- 11:59Speaker 8: he said he picked SMU Miami. You can tell like
- 12:05Speaker 8: they might lose this game, and they.
- 12:06Speaker 3: Did, which is just what makes you so impressed with
- 12:09Speaker 3: this A and M team because this is the first
- 12:10Speaker 3: AMM team and so forever that is getting better the
- 12:14Speaker 3: season goes along.
- 12:15Speaker 8: You know, I was thinking about Brian over here. I
- 12:17Speaker 8: would say that the team with mand that just missed
- 12:22Speaker 8: out got better as the year went on. But here's
- 12:25Speaker 8: my deal is I think the difference is is a
- 12:28Speaker 8: layman when I'm watching a team, I consider myself a
- 12:31Speaker 8: layment when they're when they're getting better. I could see
- 12:33Speaker 8: mand was getting better, you know, the running backs line.
- 12:37Speaker 8: But I think the deal is with Elko the defense
- 12:39Speaker 8: is getting better, and I don't see the defense as much.
- 12:42Speaker 8: I don't know as much.
- 12:43Speaker 3: So I'll just say this, from nineteen nine to nine
- 12:47Speaker 3: to right now, there's probably been three teams, including this one,
- 12:51Speaker 3: that I could say they got better as the season
- 12:54Speaker 3: went along.
- 12:54Speaker 1: I agree with you.
- 12:55Speaker 3: The twenty twenty team, I'll say twenty twenty twelve. By
- 12:58Speaker 3: the time that that season, no one was gonna beat him.
- 13:01Speaker 8: They didn't want to play him.
- 13:02Speaker 3: But this we're talking about, you know, twenty seven years
- 13:06Speaker 3: here where we've seen three teams get better. Team yea.
- 13:09Speaker 8: And he talks on this today and I'm writing this
- 13:12Speaker 8: my calling about it. You think about how they've woken
- 13:15Speaker 8: up woken in certain games. They do it because they're
- 13:18Speaker 8: good and they they're well coached, and they do it.
- 13:21Speaker 8: And now they're doing that over the course of now,
- 13:23Speaker 8: like you said, you weeks and months, they're eight to no.
- 13:26Speaker 8: They've answered every challenge and.
- 13:28Speaker 3: The best thing I think is how they handle adversity.
- 13:31Speaker 3: So the punk gets blocked against it's Notre Dame or
- 13:34Speaker 3: the punk gets blocked against LSU, and they don't panic.
- 13:38Speaker 3: And they're down for at the half against LSU, they
- 13:40Speaker 3: don't panic.
- 13:40Speaker 1: It's funny you right now because I asked him about
- 13:43Speaker 1: that today and I said, hey, uh, you've had two
- 13:47Speaker 1: punts blocked.
- 13:49Speaker 8: Good question.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Do you could do you change personnel? Have you looked
- 13:53Speaker 1: at your schemes? I thought his answer was really interesting.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Season it speaks, it speaks to what you're saying. He
- 13:59Speaker 1: just said, no, he goes, we got to coach better.
- 14:02Speaker 1: He goes, there's a couple of things. He just there
- 14:04Speaker 1: were execution issues. Uh, but we're not changing anybody, you know,
- 14:09Speaker 1: we we we just we have to do better basically.
- 14:12Speaker 8: And it's like, yeah, he's got he feels he's got
- 14:15Speaker 8: the right scheme, the right players. They just't executed. And
- 14:18Speaker 8: if you go back the Arkansas game was like that.
- 14:21Speaker 8: If you remember, Arkansas just slid up A and M
- 14:23Speaker 8: in that forty five forty two game, which we haven't
- 14:25Speaker 8: seen since they started out with like, uh, you know,
- 14:29Speaker 8: one line back whatever. They a different defense and Arkansas
- 14:33Speaker 8: random ball him. You know, A and M was prepared
- 14:35Speaker 8: for the past a and m hit him with the
- 14:37Speaker 8: big runs. And I think if Elk had to do
- 14:39Speaker 8: all over again, he's gonna be better on how he
- 14:41Speaker 8: calls that game. They lost that game because the way
- 14:43Speaker 8: the defense come out and lined up. But they're getting better.
- 14:46Speaker 8: They see their mistakes, both execution wise and coaching wise,
- 14:50Speaker 8: and they adjust.
- 14:50Speaker 3: But they would have lost that game under the last
- 14:53Speaker 3: three coaching staffs. Got a doubt, yeah, And I think
- 14:56Speaker 3: they probably would have lost another Dame game under the
- 14:58Speaker 3: last day. So the best case scenario the six and two,
- 15:02Speaker 3: maybe five and three underneath the last three coach. And
- 15:05Speaker 3: that's what I think. That the value of Elko, who's
- 15:07Speaker 3: just a solid fundamentals football coach, and then they just
- 15:10Speaker 3: get better. There's no I don't know, it's not smoking
- 15:13Speaker 3: mirrors with him.
- 15:14Speaker 8: Right, And if they had Brent Vernabules or hypel or
- 15:18Speaker 8: crystal Ball, they'd be five and three or six and two.
- 15:20Speaker 8: They find a way to lose Suns games.
- 15:23Speaker 3: I remember when Hugh Freeze was a really good coach,
- 15:25Speaker 3: you know, I say the same thing, and.
- 15:27Speaker 8: I watched no.
- 15:27Speaker 1: I remember when he was a quarterback whisper and his offense, right,
- 15:32Speaker 1: I remember what how do you get stuck without a quarterback?
- 15:36Speaker 1: And how do you misevaluate that bad bad?
- 15:39Speaker 8: I remember Segment tried to hire him, an SEC wouldn't let.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Him cost him his job, I mean obviously, because that
- 15:45Speaker 1: what was his strength at Auburn. He has not had
- 15:49Speaker 1: a quarterback.
- 15:50Speaker 8: Is that head scratch?
- 15:52Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's head scratching to me. How that happens?
- 15:56Speaker 3: I just don't Maybe there's never been.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I will say this, guys, in this day and age
- 16:01Speaker 1: where it is up for grabs, you gotta be lucky too. Yes,
- 16:06Speaker 1: I mean you gotta be good, don't get me wrong,
- 16:09Speaker 1: but you gotta be lucky.
- 16:10Speaker 8: You know what I'm saying.
- 16:11Speaker 3: You gotta be able to escape by a couple of
- 16:14Speaker 3: teams like eight and a half.
- 16:15Speaker 8: And I think Elko alluded to that today in his answer, like,
- 16:18Speaker 8: you know, it's such a fine line with the twenty
- 16:21Speaker 8: games or whatever.
- 16:22Speaker 1: It is one scoring, one game and he's been.
- 16:24Speaker 8: On the up side of it. Next year he might
- 16:26Speaker 8: have a key injury or two that that hurt the issuery.
- 16:29Speaker 8: He's managed to offset the injuries. Next year, maybe he doesn't.
- 16:32Speaker 3: You know, it's gonna be interesting how this this progresses.
- 16:34Speaker 3: I was talking with one of the real insiders yesterday.
- 16:38Speaker 1: And uh no, everybody listen.
- 16:41Speaker 3: It was interesting to see how things are gonna change
- 16:43Speaker 3: here and these nil things are going to change and
- 16:47Speaker 3: these kids who have been paid for doing nothing, they're
- 16:51Speaker 3: actually gonna have to justify, you know, making appearances in
- 16:54Speaker 3: these kind of things and so and there's.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Gonna be a lot less money guaranteed.
- 16:58Speaker 3: Yeah, And I mean they are actually putting some parameters
- 17:02Speaker 3: on this.
- 17:04Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Yeah, Like you can't just for now they're just giving
- 17:08Speaker 3: you money for for nothing. It's like you don't It's
- 17:10Speaker 3: like the Greg Hill days where paid you for washing
- 17:13Speaker 3: grass girl.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 17:14Speaker 1: No, I mean, but they're gonna actually.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Have to justify that, you know, being making appearances and
- 17:20Speaker 3: sponsorships and all that stuff. And there's gonna be some
- 17:22Speaker 3: regulations on this coming, which I salute if if it happens,
- 17:27Speaker 3: and I think it will based on who I was
- 17:29Speaker 3: talking to, it's gonna be very very interesting.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Are you talking about here or throughout.
- 17:33Speaker 3: College throughout college football?
- 17:35Speaker 8: Okay?
- 17:35Speaker 1: And I think it's real.
- 17:37Speaker 3: One of the first things they're gonna do is you're
- 17:39Speaker 3: not gonna be able to transfer within the same conference
- 17:41Speaker 3: and still's play like you're immediately Yeah, so you're not
- 17:45Speaker 3: gonna be Noah Thomas and play at text saying them
- 17:47Speaker 3: and then Georgia.
- 17:49Speaker 1: There have to be changes. I mean, what we did
- 17:53Speaker 1: catch touchdown pass? I think no Thomas, Yeah he did.
- 17:57Speaker 1: He did catch it touchdown past missed? Yeah no, no, no,
- 18:01Speaker 1: actually I don't think he caught too. But he had
- 18:04Speaker 1: a good game. Okay, yeah, he was due. So I
- 18:07Speaker 1: want to give Mario Cristobaul more credit. I said his
- 18:10Speaker 1: winning percentage was one sixty seven. It's two sixty's by
- 18:17Speaker 1: one hundred. He's four and eleven in the month of
- 18:20Speaker 1: November at Miami.
- 18:21Speaker 8: You know he needs to get a contract extension before
- 18:23Speaker 8: they lose him.
- 18:24Speaker 3: He's as reliable as the Dallas Cowboys and December, November
- 18:31Speaker 3: and dece that's the same.
- 18:32Speaker 1: You're right at eleven.
- 18:34Speaker 3: He's as trustworthy as Cowboys.
- 18:36Speaker 8: Please accept our apology from the sports talking that writers run.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Yeah, so who's going to coach? I mean how many
- 18:43Speaker 1: who's going to take all the Arkansas high profile jobs?
- 18:47Speaker 1: Are they're gonna who's going to improve what they had?
- 18:52Speaker 1: Let me put it that way. As a head coach, right,
- 18:56Speaker 1: who's thinking about who can get better, because that's what
- 18:58Speaker 1: you do.
- 18:58Speaker 8: You follow people. I was talking even in high schools.
- 19:02Speaker 8: Talk to people, go Okay, we fired the coach, but
- 19:04Speaker 8: now we've got to get someone's better. And a lot
- 19:06Speaker 8: of people forget the number two step. It's a two
- 19:08Speaker 8: step deal. You can follow the guys easy to fire.
- 19:10Speaker 8: It's easy to fire anybody well.
- 19:12Speaker 3: And I think it goes back to look and m
- 19:14Speaker 3: fired Arci slogan, and it is taking them legitimately four
- 19:19Speaker 3: coaches to get maybe the right guy here, Russell.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Let's go through the programs Oklahoma Oklahoma toops Texas with
- 19:28Speaker 1: Mac Brown. I mean huge program USC Florida hadn't hadn't
- 19:34Speaker 1: done it yet, right, Penn State. Uh, I mean go
- 19:40Speaker 1: through all these huge programs with legendary coaches who won
- 19:44Speaker 1: a lot Florida State but then suddenly didn't.
- 19:48Speaker 3: And so you know, I mean there's no tried in
- 19:50Speaker 3: true formula. I mean what A and M tried to
- 19:52Speaker 3: do is like, okay, well they got the hot name
- 19:55Speaker 3: with fran and who had done had pretty good success
- 19:58Speaker 3: to TCU and then had a good year in Alabama. Right,
- 20:01Speaker 3: So then they got Mike Sherman, the old offensive line
- 20:03Speaker 3: coach coming from the NFL. Then they get Kevin, someone.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Who was hot because he was a hot prospect.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Then they get the famous guy, Jimbo, and they pay
- 20:11Speaker 3: him a load of money. And it wasn't until they
- 20:13Speaker 3: got the relatively new head coach. The coordinator had been here.
- 20:16Speaker 3: But again, you you you've got to take a chance,
- 20:19Speaker 3: and there's no guarantee on anything.
- 20:22Speaker 1: There's no guarantee. By the way, Jimbo is in the
- 20:25Speaker 1: top three names a list of coaches that that are
- 20:34Speaker 1: people are wanting. The name is out.
- 20:37Speaker 3: Now that question for you, I don't I don't know this.
- 20:40Speaker 3: If he takes a job, does that lesson what A
- 20:43Speaker 3: and M has to pay?
- 20:44Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 20:45Speaker 8: He's guaranteed guaranteed. Yeah, if he took a job like
- 20:49Speaker 8: the friend, Yeah yeah, yeah.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Okay, And they just who they just fired that they're
- 20:54Speaker 1: trying to get that deal with him.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Uh, Maryland just fired the coach today.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Oh I didn't know that. But they're trying to negotiate
- 21:03Speaker 1: with Kelly. They're trying to going, uh yeah, because he
- 21:07Speaker 1: had a you know, a clause like if he gets
- 21:09Speaker 1: a job, that's a percentage.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Yeah, there are three really good jobs opening the SEC
- 21:16Speaker 3: and if I'm Marcus All going, what the heck are
- 21:18Speaker 3: we going to?
- 21:19Speaker 1: You know, I mean, I'm not convinced Auburn is a
- 21:24Speaker 1: great job. Although they obviously won national championships. I'm not
- 21:27Speaker 1: saying they can't do that. I'm just saying, if I'm
- 21:30Speaker 1: coming from the outside, I'm going, it's like going to
- 21:34Speaker 1: l s U. Right now. It's like, you know, I
- 21:36Speaker 1: think I can win there, but I don't know if
- 21:38Speaker 1: I want to put up with all of it. But
- 21:39Speaker 1: if they pay me enough and I got that that
- 21:42Speaker 1: big buy out, yeah come on, I'll do it.
- 21:45Speaker 8: Well.
- 21:45Speaker 3: I think that there's less pressure at Auburn.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Oh.
- 21:48Speaker 8: I don't agree with oh Man.
- 21:49Speaker 1: I do not agree with I do not agree with No.
- 21:54Speaker 10: No.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Auburn has a history. I'm reading a book right now
- 21:58Speaker 1: in the history of Auburn. Now, Alabama is really very fast.
- 22:02Speaker 8: Job would you take if the guy walks in Florida?
- 22:04Speaker 8: Take Florida?
- 22:05Speaker 3: Why would you take Florida?
- 22:06Speaker 1: I like Scott Strickland. He has a long term deal.
- 22:09Speaker 1: I think he's a good athletic director. I think he
- 22:11Speaker 1: knows what he's doing. I think there's more stability there.
- 22:15Speaker 1: And well, you can any of those three you can win.
- 22:20Speaker 1: I mean that's been proven. But I'm just saying, good point.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I would take the Florida job.
- 22:25Speaker 3: I would too because of the recruiting base and and.
- 22:28Speaker 1: That's the other thing. But of course now within I
- 22:30Speaker 1: L that's.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, it still matters, but you're right, it
- 22:33Speaker 3: does not nearly as important. Yeah, but you know, I mean,
- 22:37Speaker 3: Florida's got to me the better facilities that I mean,
- 22:41Speaker 3: Baton Rouge is a terrible place. I mean, l she's
- 22:44Speaker 3: a great campus, but Baton Rouge a terrible place. And Auburn,
- 22:47Speaker 3: Alabama is just kind of out and planes yep, And
- 22:51Speaker 3: so I don't know. I mean, there are three really
- 22:54Speaker 3: good jobs. But the thing is how many more.
- 22:57Speaker 1: You remember when Arkansas used to be a good job.
- 23:00Speaker 3: That's exactly right.
- 23:01Speaker 1: That's not any more job. It's a it's a terrible
- 23:04Speaker 1: job now. But somebody could come in and make it
- 23:06Speaker 1: a good job real quick. All you have to do
- 23:08Speaker 1: is win.
- 23:08Speaker 3: I don't think that Arkansas can do better than Bobby Petrino.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Oh, I don't agree with that.
- 23:13Speaker 8: Well, if they get to Tulane coach or someone like that,
- 23:17Speaker 8: you got a little bit of money. If you get
- 23:18Speaker 8: a little bit of money of Jerry's mind.
- 23:20Speaker 1: How about drink what's in Missouri?
- 23:21Speaker 3: You think he'd believes, Oh, for the right money, Yeah,
- 23:24Speaker 3: I think he takes Florida's job, or I think he'd
- 23:26Speaker 3: take any one of the three jobs.
- 23:27Speaker 1: He wouldn't go to Arkansas.
- 23:28Speaker 8: I don't think he's a great high though.
- 23:30Speaker 1: I mean he has done I'm not saying he is
- 23:32Speaker 1: just but he's he's.
- 23:33Speaker 3: An that's the pretty big name out there.
- 23:36Speaker 1: I think he's done a good job.
- 23:37Speaker 8: One year in Appalachian State.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Who is who is a great hire right now? I
- 23:41Speaker 1: mean that's the thing.
- 23:41Speaker 3: It's like, you're not gonna get Nick Saban to come out.
- 23:43Speaker 8: Of tire, understand, I don't think so.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know the answer to that.
- 23:47Speaker 3: And if Texas loses the Georgia, I mean it's Steve
- 23:50Speaker 3: Sarkisian gonna go to the NFL. And if he does,
- 23:54Speaker 3: then that's the best job.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Right.
- 23:55Speaker 8: Maybe he won't go to the NFL. Maybe go to Cowboys.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Oh that was what you did there?
- 24:04Speaker 3: I like that, man, that was a good one.
- 24:07Speaker 11: Uh.
- 24:07Speaker 3: But and then question, I think Stops is going to
- 24:10Speaker 3: get fired to Kentucky. I mean eventually, I mean he's
- 24:13Speaker 3: got himself with week. Yeah, it's not a good job.
- 24:16Speaker 8: So I heard some guy tell me Dave Well, Hype
- 24:19Speaker 8: will go to Oklahoma, and I go, really, I go,
- 24:22Speaker 8: I just can't see that.
- 24:24Speaker 1: I tell you what, I I think they get Brent
- 24:29Speaker 1: Vinnable's light if they if they switch him for for Hypel,
- 24:33Speaker 1: you're you're you're switching a defensive coach for an offensive coach.
- 24:36Speaker 1: I mean, that's basically what you're doing. But but neither
- 24:39Speaker 1: one of them can coach as a head coach.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Well, they say, if you went a Heisman Trophy, you've
- 24:43Speaker 3: got a guaranteed job for life at your mother.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Yeah, but that all My mater ran him off rus See.
- 24:50Speaker 1: That's why I thought, I I gotta say this. I
- 24:55Speaker 1: got to give that Oklahoma team some credit. I got
- 24:58Speaker 1: to give John Mattiers some credit because he played well
- 25:02Speaker 1: Saturday night, right and in a tough environment. I thought
- 25:06Speaker 1: they wouldn't buy forty, and I thought Hypel would be
- 25:09Speaker 1: scoring at the end to try to make it fifty.
- 25:11Speaker 1: I really did, And I gotta give them credit for
- 25:17Speaker 1: for finding a way.
- 25:18Speaker 7: Now.
- 25:19Speaker 1: I don't think Tennessee is a great football team, but
- 25:21Speaker 1: they are a team scoring about forty five points a game, right,
- 25:26Speaker 1: So I give them a lot of credit.
- 25:28Speaker 8: But you think about Tennessee's lost two games because of coaching,
- 25:31Speaker 8: no doubt. Just think were they with no question if
- 25:33Speaker 8: he had coached at Georgia game a little bit better
- 25:36Speaker 8: and you'd won that game.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Biging of Georgia. I mean, they just Kirby just keeps winning.
- 25:41Speaker 8: Right. He was talking about talking about Date Roberts making
- 25:45Speaker 8: the right choice.
- 25:46Speaker 3: Yes, you know you're talking about we talked about bad coaching, right, Yes,
- 25:50Speaker 3: So what I thought was brilliant coaching, even though I'd
- 25:53Speaker 3: picked Georgia and I really wanted him to score at
- 25:55Speaker 3: the end when the quarterback breaks around and and he
- 25:58Speaker 3: takes the.
- 25:59Speaker 1: I gotta tell you, I don't agree with that taking
- 26:02Speaker 1: the knee when you're when you can go up two scores.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I don't either.
- 26:08Speaker 3: I would see it, But then there's no I saw that.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Happen in another game. The guy went down at one.
- 26:13Speaker 1: I said, why are you going down?
- 26:14Speaker 8: It was a ball.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:17Speaker 1: I watched a lot of football and all runs together. Yes,
- 26:19Speaker 1: and they think, yeah, they think they're doing the smart thing.
- 26:22Speaker 1: But if you're going into the end zone in less
- 26:24Speaker 1: than two minutes and you're and you're going up to
- 26:27Speaker 1: go two scores. I'm going, why are you?
- 26:29Speaker 3: Yeah, you know what, I think you're probably right if
- 26:32Speaker 3: it's less than if it's it's a tie game. If
- 26:34Speaker 3: it's if you score, then you give that other team
- 26:36Speaker 3: a chance to score and tie, you know, tie. But yeah,
- 26:40Speaker 3: I mean I could see the point there.
- 26:41Speaker 8: I'm with you on that.
- 26:42Speaker 3: I hate to see I just I just know it
- 26:44Speaker 3: costs me, you know, in my pickings.
- 26:46Speaker 8: I hate it when I see people taking knee and
- 26:48Speaker 8: it's time to get the field goal, I go score.
- 26:51Speaker 3: That's what I would talk about bad coaching, But let's
- 26:55Speaker 3: talk about bad officiating.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Did you have I need to take break? Okay, I
- 27:01Speaker 1: want to come back on that again. Is that's a no,
- 27:05Speaker 1: I'm clapping. I'm clapping that. The tea is is U.

- 30:40Speaker 1: Good gosh, I underlook. I know it's a hard job.
- 30:45Speaker 1: I get it. These guys are big, they're fast, and
- 30:47Speaker 1: gay moves at incredible pace. I get it. I will
- 30:52Speaker 1: cut them some slack. But you can't. You cannot have
- 30:55Speaker 1: the league that everyone says is the greatest ball league
- 31:00Speaker 1: in the history of the world and have officials that
- 31:04Speaker 1: incompetent every single game. You can't do it. Well, I
- 31:10Speaker 1: don't know what the answer.
- 31:11Speaker 3: We were talking during the break about that Texas Vandy
- 31:13Speaker 3: game and that two point conversion that they gave the vandage.
- 31:18Speaker 3: The guy never got close to the goal line and
- 31:22Speaker 3: they show it on replay, and you've got replay, and
- 31:25Speaker 3: what what infuriates me is when you got replay and
- 31:28Speaker 3: then they still screw it.
- 31:29Speaker 8: Screwed up.
- 31:30Speaker 11: Man.
- 31:31Speaker 1: I just don't get it. I don't get it either,
- 31:33Speaker 1: clear as you don't get it. Clemson got a cost
- 31:38Speaker 1: the entire game.
- 31:38Speaker 3: At the end of there was no that was defensive
- 31:41Speaker 3: past interference. It was offensive past appearance. But it changed
- 31:45Speaker 3: the game. Fourth down there off the field, the Clemson
- 31:47Speaker 3: Vans are celebrating they've just won the game. No, no,
- 31:50Speaker 3: they give Duke the ball two yard line and they score, right,
- 31:54Speaker 3: you know, they go to they win it, forty six,
- 31:55Speaker 3: forty five. Yeah, that was one of the many games
- 31:58Speaker 3: I was flipping back.
- 31:59Speaker 1: All that time. You know, they all run together, but
- 32:01Speaker 1: I'm telling you consistently, the SEC officiating is just horrible.
- 32:06Speaker 8: I don't know if that's I think it's every game
- 32:08Speaker 8: I turn on, I see some blown calls.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Oh, I'm not saying that. I mean, there's other conferences,
- 32:13Speaker 1: but I'm just saying, of course, I watch probably more
- 32:16Speaker 1: of this conference, right, but I watch all the other games.
- 32:19Speaker 1: I'm watching Big ten, I watched the Big.
- 32:21Speaker 3: Twelve and missing the ACC bad call acc.
- 32:25Speaker 1: You know, I watch all of them, but man, nobody
- 32:29Speaker 1: seems to screw up worse than this league.
- 32:31Speaker 3: And we had the one game in the Pac twelve
- 32:33Speaker 3: this week, so.
- 32:35Speaker 1: The one usc uh, no ASCAR.
- 32:38Speaker 3: I'm talking about Washington State one pack twelve games the
- 32:43Speaker 3: whole season. Yeah, but I'm with your rusties. I can't
- 32:46Speaker 3: understand why they can't get it right on replay. Why
- 32:48Speaker 3: you have replay to go ahead? Where's the ball? Where's
- 32:50Speaker 3: his feet? And it's like this should be a quick overcall,
- 32:53Speaker 3: and it takes too long, right, it takes way too long,
- 32:56Speaker 3: and they're analyzing it to death, and too much is
- 32:58Speaker 3: made on the call in the field.
- 33:00Speaker 1: I think, I think, you know, if it's clearly evident.
- 33:03Speaker 1: And I don't watch the NFL, but don't they get
- 33:05Speaker 1: two challenges.
- 33:07Speaker 3: Two red flags too? If you get to keep it
- 33:10Speaker 3: keep it right.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Why can't they do that in college?
- 33:12Speaker 8: That's good cost too much. They're trying to get an
- 33:16Speaker 8: n IL sponsor.
- 33:17Speaker 1: For there's got to the state farm flag out on.
- 33:21Speaker 3: There's gotta be some limitations, like baseball. Next year you
- 33:25Speaker 3: get to two challenges on balls and stripes. If you
- 33:27Speaker 3: get it wrong, you lose it. But you don't get
- 33:29Speaker 3: a never ending supply of it correct, and the officials
- 33:32Speaker 3: can't stop the game over and over again. Correct. And
- 33:35Speaker 3: so if you don't have a challenge, they're not going
- 33:37Speaker 3: to stop the game. And I think that's the way
- 33:39Speaker 3: college football has to I don't understand.
- 33:41Speaker 1: It seems simple, doesn't it.
- 33:43Speaker 3: They never ask, you.
- 33:44Speaker 1: Know, they don't ask me I could, I could, I
- 33:46Speaker 1: could make the game so much better.
- 33:48Speaker 3: You know, you mentioned the Tulane coach and did some
- 33:51Speaker 3: are Did you see what ut s A did to them?
- 33:55Speaker 1: Yeah, they scored about a thousand on them.
- 33:59Speaker 3: You talk about a guy getting mentioned and then the distraction.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Maybe that's why.
- 34:04Speaker 8: Maybe right, good point, because those kids aren't you know,
- 34:07Speaker 8: maybe that's why, and that hurts them a little bit.
- 34:09Speaker 8: You gotta watch it, you know.
- 34:11Speaker 1: But uh so tomorrow night they're they're the first Paul
- 34:15Speaker 1: Is out that matters. Uh And I haven't read all
- 34:19Speaker 1: of the people who break all that down yet, and
- 34:21Speaker 1: I don't really care because it's still we.
- 34:23Speaker 8: Read a couple of too early too. I'm with you.
- 34:25Speaker 1: So you think Ohio State is going to be number one?
- 34:28Speaker 8: I think I think I read the good you know,
- 34:30Speaker 8: and I read I like to read Kirk because Kirk's
- 34:33Speaker 8: Kirk's locked in for a lot more upper people than
- 34:37Speaker 8: Lord knows I be. But Ohigh State is the defending champ.
- 34:40Speaker 8: They haven't played a great schedule, but when you're number
- 34:43Speaker 8: one for two years and people were after you, that
- 34:45Speaker 8: that is worth something a little bit. I get that,
- 34:48Speaker 8: and uh, I'll go with the people I read. I
- 34:50Speaker 8: think it'll be Ohio State. Because of that, you can
- 34:52Speaker 8: make a case. You can make case Sadana's play a
- 34:55Speaker 8: tougher schedule. When you look at Notre Dame, you look
- 34:57Speaker 8: at on the road who they had, but well doesn't
- 35:01Speaker 8: have the.
- 35:03Speaker 1: Next shape they don't have well, but no one has
- 35:09Speaker 1: less tradition than Indiana, know what. That's what I've seen. Man,
- 35:13Speaker 1: watch this Indiana team. They're good. I'm telling you they were.
- 35:19Speaker 3: They were a fluke last year maybe, but they have solidified.
- 35:23Speaker 1: They're better. They're much better. I checked them.
- 35:26Speaker 3: And of course, now when I say I expect them,
- 35:29Speaker 3: that means Penn State is gonna win. But I expect
- 35:31Speaker 3: them to go into Penn State and just beat them down.
- 35:34Speaker 3: But if anybody's betting on it, I would pick Penn
- 35:36Speaker 3: State just because I.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Yeah, games, I'm awful, Oh terrible, I'm just a losing
- 35:42Speaker 1: record in the day. I haven't looked, but I know
- 35:45Speaker 1: I had a loser.
- 35:46Speaker 8: Ri told me horrible that I was six and fourteen.
- 35:50Speaker 8: I'm sure right there with you probably will. Rick told me,
- 35:53Speaker 8: he said, you want to know good news? He said
- 35:55Speaker 8: Chip was also six and you also six fourteen.
- 35:59Speaker 1: Brusty, Gary, Oh, that just tells you how hard it is.
- 36:04Speaker 1: It's just crazy.
- 36:05Speaker 8: I just laugh. And of course I actually have Rick
- 36:08Speaker 8: and Crystal both grade and for me, Crystal senders in
- 36:10Speaker 8: first thing tomorrow morning, and that way I'm with Chip.
- 36:14Speaker 3: You only pick ten games, you know.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Yeah, but if you get I can't even get I
- 36:17Speaker 1: can't even get six to ten right.
- 36:19Speaker 3: If you get four, right, that's not very good.
- 36:20Speaker 1: That's not very good. I had a guy go ten
- 36:23Speaker 1: and know this.
- 36:24Speaker 8: Will call you Mario Junior.
- 36:26Speaker 1: No, no, no, it's not very good. It's good. But
- 36:29Speaker 1: that's but that's why it's so fun to watch, right,
- 36:31Speaker 1: because it is just totally unpredictable.
- 36:36Speaker 8: I bring up a question, you guys, I don't understand
- 36:39Speaker 8: why all these people are firing your head coach now,
- 36:43Speaker 8: because you're not gonna hire anybody. If you want Lane Kiffin,
- 36:45Speaker 8: he's not coming to you right now. And I wish
- 36:48Speaker 8: they'd pass some kind of ruling because it takes away
- 36:52Speaker 8: from Ole. Miss might have a chance to win the
- 36:53Speaker 8: national championship for the first time, whether Lank Kiffins or not.
- 36:56Speaker 8: And you know those guys, you're thinking, well, it is
- 36:58Speaker 8: Lane leaving exactly going to go to order. I don't
- 37:01Speaker 8: like the coaches. I wish they almost say you got
- 37:04Speaker 8: to keep them to the end of the year, whether
- 37:05Speaker 8: you love them or not. You got to keep Brian
- 37:07Speaker 8: kellying to the end. But I know it's not gonna happen.
- 37:10Speaker 3: Well, come on, man, DJ Dirkin, come on, I mean,
- 37:14Speaker 3: what a great head coach, right, I mean, what get
- 37:17Speaker 3: he freeze out of there?
- 37:17Speaker 1: Get dj in man.
- 37:19Speaker 8: He's interest But I just see it.
- 37:21Speaker 1: He was at the press conference today and I'm thinking.
- 37:23Speaker 8: Who's Arkansas gonna hire? You want to you want you
- 37:26Speaker 8: want to fire Pittman early? Who are you gonna hire
- 37:29Speaker 8: with two months to go into Sea.
- 37:30Speaker 3: You're gonna have to take You're gonna have to take
- 37:32Speaker 3: a leap on a coordinator that's hot coordinator.
- 37:36Speaker 8: Yeah, that's my point. Finished it with who you got?
- 37:39Speaker 3: The problem is from a standpoint, a reputation standpoint, These
- 37:44Speaker 3: kids give up on you so fast. So if Pittman
- 37:47Speaker 3: is a lame duck, then they're gonna have these kids waiting,
- 37:52Speaker 3: kids on the roster to get out of there as
- 37:54Speaker 3: fast as they can't.
- 37:55Speaker 8: Why I get excited for unless they give.
- 37:58Speaker 3: Well, because you could we sell them on the Hey,
- 38:01Speaker 3: wait till you see who we hire. We have no
- 38:03Speaker 3: earthly idea who it is, but wait to you see.
- 38:05Speaker 8: You know I get that, but I do so many
- 38:08Speaker 8: of them, like Penn State and everybody and everybody who's
- 38:11Speaker 8: gone there. Do you think they'll go ahead and get
- 38:13Speaker 8: this guy?
- 38:13Speaker 1: Well, two years from now, it's gonna be so much
- 38:15Speaker 1: fun to look back and say who made the right
- 38:18Speaker 1: hire and who really screwed up?
- 38:21Speaker 8: Even mentioned at Penn State.
- 38:22Speaker 3: And I know that's.
- 38:24Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Today they ask him about all that stuff, right, knock
- 38:28Speaker 1: on wood, Yeah, it's pretty funny.
- 38:31Speaker 8: That's pretty good. And he's right because in two years
- 38:33Speaker 8: a lot of coaches have got extension. This year will
- 38:36Speaker 8: be on the hot seat next one.
- 38:37Speaker 3: That so many openings, some of these guys getting fired,
- 38:40Speaker 3: they got a great chance to end up in a
- 38:42Speaker 3: better situation.
- 38:43Speaker 8: We're not even talking about Oklahoma State. I mean that
- 38:45Speaker 8: I'm opening.
- 38:46Speaker 3: That's all right.
- 38:47Speaker 1: That was one of the first ones.
- 38:48Speaker 8: Right, that's gonna not gonna be a bad job for something.
- 38:50Speaker 3: I'll tell you what. I've watched Kannas State a couple
- 38:52Speaker 3: of times this year, and they're not very good. They're
- 38:54Speaker 3: not very consistently.
- 38:55Speaker 1: They're not athletic.
- 38:56Speaker 3: No, they're not.
- 38:56Speaker 1: I still like the coach.
- 38:58Speaker 3: I do too, but I'm very athletic too.
- 39:00Speaker 1: They are not.
- 39:01Speaker 8: I was sick on us watching something four in a row.
- 39:04Speaker 8: I was watching the Big twelve, this wee flashing around
- 39:07Speaker 8: and I said to Chi, has the Kansas State coach
- 39:10Speaker 8: in Iowa State coach stayed yes, because if they want.
- 39:13Speaker 1: If they wanted to leave the answers. Yes, Matt Campbell
- 39:17Speaker 1: missed his window last two years.
- 39:20Speaker 3: But although I'm still thinking it even I don't know.
- 39:22Speaker 8: But how do you please your own fans?
- 39:24Speaker 1: Were you not with Well, that's that's the thing, right, Well,
- 39:27Speaker 1: here's what I would say. I mean, fans are fans.
- 39:31Speaker 1: They're they're gonna be emotional, they don't care, right, but
- 39:34Speaker 1: I'm going to Kansas State or to Iowa State, and
- 39:39Speaker 1: they're probably getting a little lancey. As you mentioned, they
- 39:42Speaker 1: lost four straight and you're going, Okay, who you're gonna get, right,
- 39:47Speaker 1: that's always the question. You you want this guy out.
- 39:51Speaker 1: I still think both those guys are good coaches.
- 39:53Speaker 3: Right, they made a mistake by firing Damn McCartney years ago,
- 39:57Speaker 3: exactly can bring him back.
- 40:00Speaker 1: I mean, Dan McCartney was a heck and I loved
- 40:03Speaker 1: him a lot. He was a good guy.
- 40:05Speaker 3: But sometimes when you fire that guy, you're you're like, Okay,
- 40:09Speaker 3: you're not gonna get the better guy.
- 40:10Speaker 1: Now they got we just we just went down to
- 40:13Speaker 1: litany of these major programs, Rusty, It's like, hey, when
- 40:17Speaker 1: r C got fired, it's like that's it's time, right.
- 40:20Speaker 3: No one's talking about hots anymore?
- 40:22Speaker 14: Is Alabama coach? It's like not anymore, not anymore. I
- 40:25Speaker 14: mean the number four or five, it'll only take one loss.
- 40:29Speaker 14: And now you're right, that's all I have.
- 40:35Speaker 1: I'm just saying, you want to fire Klein to board,
- 40:37Speaker 1: there's about one hundred and ten teams that'll take him tomorrow.
- 40:40Speaker 3: And so Brian Kelly, surely he's gonna get a really
- 40:44Speaker 3: nice I.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Think he'll get a job. I don't know where, but
- 40:47Speaker 1: I think he'll get a job.
- 40:49Speaker 3: You would think just like a change of scenery might
- 40:51Speaker 3: be really good for me.
- 40:52Speaker 1: I tell you what. That's That's what I was just
- 40:55Speaker 1: about to say.
- 40:57Speaker 8: He'd be good for state.
- 40:58Speaker 1: He reminds me of of a Penn.
- 41:00Speaker 8: State northern type guy.
- 41:02Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying, Tintuck guy, That's what I'm saying. Yeah,
- 41:05Speaker 1: I think he'd come.
- 41:06Speaker 8: In there and he give me a jerk at times.
- 41:09Speaker 8: Yeah sure, but yeah.
- 41:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm it's just going to be fascinating. Okay, we're
- 41:15Speaker 1: actually going to talk about a little bit about Missouri
- 41:17Speaker 1: and Texas A and I come back. The Cowboys Report
- 41:21Speaker 1: is brought to you by Shilty Roofing and the deck
- 41:23Speaker 1: Or Financial Group.
- 41:24Speaker 11: It was after a hailstorm a few years back. I
- 41:26Speaker 11: needed a new roof. Yeah, I shopped around and then
- 41:29Speaker 11: I found Shorlty Roofing, and boy, I'm glad I did.
- 41:32Speaker 11: The folks at Shulty guided me every step of the way.
- 41:34Speaker 11: They showed me my options, They told me what my
- 41:37Speaker 11: out of pocket cost would be after insurance. They took
- 41:40Speaker 11: the complication out of an otherwise very stressful situation. They
- 41:43Speaker 11: took off the damage roof, put on the new roof,
- 41:45Speaker 11: did all the clean up, and I had my new
- 41:47Speaker 11: roof in one.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Day home by the bof roof.
- 41:57Speaker 9: On Tripper Back to your Cowboys report. Jerry's tea and
- 42:00Speaker 9: quite a bit of flag lately with his extracurricular activities.
- 42:03Speaker 9: But Coach Shotty came out and defended his GM about
- 42:05Speaker 9: how much he cares about this team.
- 42:08Speaker 2: You know, I did hear the comments, and again, you know,
- 42:10Speaker 2: to me, you know, I understand where fans might get
- 42:13Speaker 2: worked up about that, but I will say this. I mean, like, shoot,
- 42:15Speaker 2: you know, we sit down every Monday, every Friday, myself,
- 42:20Speaker 2: the coordinators, Jerry, Steve and Jerry Junior. I mean, we
- 42:23Speaker 2: have such lengthy conversations and you know, and shoot, you know,
- 42:27Speaker 2: Jerry and Steve and I talk almost every day by
- 42:30Speaker 2: phone as well. And at the end of the day,
- 42:33Speaker 2: I can promise you one thing. No one wants to
- 42:34Speaker 2: win more than Jerry Jones and it's our job to
- 42:38Speaker 2: go out there and do that. So that's where we're
- 42:40Speaker 2: focused on. And again, you know, we're excited about the
- 42:43Speaker 2: opportunity to come back home to AT and T and
- 42:45Speaker 2: play the Cardinals on Monday Night.
- 42:47Speaker 9: Cowboys will fight for those winning ways Monday Night versus
- 42:50Speaker 9: the Cardinals. I'm Trevor Beck with your Cowboys.

- 44:43Speaker 1: Thanks for being with us on a writer's roundtable Monday
- 44:46Speaker 1: tomorrow after John Slattery from Madmen, that's going to be
- 44:50Speaker 1: with me. He is in a new movie called Nuremberg,
- 44:53Speaker 1: which just has a fantastic cast and is out on Friday.
- 44:57Speaker 1: We'll visit with him tomorrow. We'll have postgame bucketball tomorrow
- 45:02Speaker 1: Saturday afternoon in Columbia A and M and Miszoo. This
- 45:07Speaker 1: MISSOI team is not flashy by any stretch of the imagination.
- 45:11Speaker 1: But man, I think there are lines of scrimmage and
- 45:14Speaker 1: and I'll go back to the fact that I picked
- 45:16Speaker 1: Missouri is one of my dark horse teams. And they're
- 45:18Speaker 1: still sitting at six uh six and two by the
- 45:21Speaker 1: way for the year. But their lines of scrimmage are
- 45:24Speaker 1: really good. Their defense is really good. Where I think
- 45:27Speaker 1: Adem has the biggest edge personally his speed. They're not
- 45:29Speaker 1: a fast, tremendously athletic football team. They look kind of
- 45:35Speaker 1: like a Big ten team to me right now. But
- 45:39Speaker 1: they're good. They're solid.
- 45:41Speaker 3: I've watched a lot of their games. I watched the
- 45:43Speaker 3: majority of the Alabama game, and I feel like they
- 45:46Speaker 3: should have won that game. At the time. Their quarterback
- 45:49Speaker 3: couldn't throw the football at all. This kid who's starting
- 45:53Speaker 3: this week, I've heard lots of things about.
- 45:55Speaker 1: He came in, you know, when they're quarter back got
- 46:00Speaker 1: hurt against Vanderbilt. He is impressive. He can spin the.
- 46:03Speaker 3: Ball that could hurt. And because the last guy, I
- 46:05Speaker 3: didn't feel like they were so one dimensional. They could
- 46:08Speaker 3: run the football, they could play great defense. Yeah, but
- 46:11Speaker 3: if this kid can throw it, then it opened some
- 46:13Speaker 3: things up.
- 46:13Speaker 2: Well.
- 46:13Speaker 1: Hardy's Hardy's maybe the best back and with leve On
- 46:17Speaker 1: out you know in the in the the sec right. Yeah,
- 46:20Speaker 1: he's really good.
- 46:21Speaker 3: Well it's going to be a dog fight, I would
- 46:23Speaker 3: I think it is.
- 46:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:24Speaker 8: Transferred from Monroe University Loisam Monroe three star recruit. I
- 46:29Speaker 8: was over at lunch yesterday with my former roommate, who's
- 46:33Speaker 8: who is on all the boards like of Monroe because
- 46:36Speaker 8: that's where I went to school. He told me that
- 46:39Speaker 8: great kid he dealt with the coach when he was
- 46:42Speaker 8: leaving UH. Missouri offered him four hundred and fifty thousand dollars,
- 46:47Speaker 8: tipped ole miss offered him six hundred thousand. But he
- 46:50Speaker 8: liked Drinkwitz better than Kiffin, and Missouri made it so
- 46:56Speaker 8: he could bring his horse. He loves his horse. I
- 46:59Speaker 8: love he's got.
- 47:02Speaker 1: That camp his horse. That is pretty cool.
- 47:11Speaker 8: That's America.
- 47:12Speaker 1: Hey, if he wins the game on Saturday, that's that
- 47:14Speaker 1: that needs to be a story.
- 47:15Speaker 8: Well if he rides his horse around the state, That's
- 47:17Speaker 8: what I'm saying. But you know what A and MS
- 47:19Speaker 8: last year. Last year, I thought Missouri is going to
- 47:21Speaker 8: be a tough game, and they were terrible.
- 47:24Speaker 1: That was the worst Missouri UH game in like two years.
- 47:28Speaker 3: The best game and then.
- 47:30Speaker 1: Played well, Missouri was just dead. If you'll recall, Yeah, uh,
- 47:36Speaker 1: they won't be like that Saturday.
- 47:38Speaker 8: That's kind of what I'm thinking. You know, they'll remember
- 47:41Speaker 8: that game. They're not gonna they're not gonna be like that.
- 47:43Speaker 8: I don't think.
- 47:44Speaker 1: So they're at home, it's the number three t in
- 47:46Speaker 1: the nation. Yeah, they're not going to be like that.
- 47:48Speaker 3: Was the best single game of the year for a
- 47:50Speaker 3: m start to finish. They actually put four quarters together
- 47:54Speaker 3: in that game.
- 47:54Speaker 8: You're right, unless you get it the second half, right,
- 47:57Speaker 8: they jumped on Missouri.
- 47:58Speaker 1: Which I want to go back to that resci it
- 48:00Speaker 1: is and you you mentioned it as well. See, it's
- 48:03Speaker 1: about putting four quarters together. Man, that's hard to do
- 48:07Speaker 1: this apparently, right. It's it's hard because the competition is
- 48:11Speaker 1: so good. I think as part of it, some of
- 48:14Speaker 1: it's officiating. If it no, I mean, it'll it'll ruin
- 48:17Speaker 1: your momentum, you know, if you have a bad back up.
- 48:20Speaker 12: Two.
- 48:20Speaker 1: Texas looked awesome for three three quarters that world.
- 48:24Speaker 8: I mean, they were.
- 48:25Speaker 1: They look like the team that people thought they could be,
- 48:28Speaker 1: which is scary.
- 48:30Speaker 11: Uh.
- 48:31Speaker 1: I want to go back to Pabo. While I'm thinking
- 48:33Speaker 1: about it. Man, My hat's off to that kid. He
- 48:37Speaker 1: is this cam Scataboot of twenty. I'm telling you, those
- 48:42Speaker 1: two guys are are like twins, and he is fierce,
- 48:46Speaker 1: and I just I just give them a lot of credit.
- 48:50Speaker 1: NFL too, he was I think he just got a
- 48:52Speaker 1: bad injury. So you know he's out. But but I
- 48:55Speaker 1: shouldn't know that because I don't really care.
- 48:58Speaker 3: But I'm impressed that you did.
- 48:59Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 49:00Speaker 8: I was pretty improud.
- 49:01Speaker 1: Caleb says, I already knew that before you told me.
- 49:03Speaker 1: I believe Caleb, you think you told me. Caleb is
- 49:06Speaker 1: trying to take credit take credit to that, But anyway,
- 49:09Speaker 1: h Vanderbilt athletically has no business being on the field
- 49:13Speaker 1: with most teams. They've they've got a few, don't get
- 49:15Speaker 1: me wrong, right, they've got a few. But but I
- 49:20Speaker 1: don't know if you switch rosters with Texas and Vanderbilt,
- 49:23Speaker 1: it's like, you know that that just wouldn't work. But
- 49:26Speaker 1: I clark Lee to me, this guy's really good. He
- 49:30Speaker 1: is really good what he's done.
- 49:32Speaker 3: And there's a name that you might yeah, and would
- 49:36Speaker 3: he leave his alma mater for the right money, in
- 49:40Speaker 3: the right job. Take Florida job, would.
- 49:42Speaker 8: You because he's also thinking I can't win a national
- 49:44Speaker 8: championship here. Let's be honest.
- 49:46Speaker 1: No, I don't think he is thinking that. I really don't.
- 49:49Speaker 1: These guys we've talked about that, they're different, right. No,
- 49:54Speaker 1: I don't think he's thinking like that. I'm thinking, Hey,
- 49:57Speaker 1: we're just getting going here.
- 49:59Speaker 3: I think Mike has his dream job right now. I
- 50:02Speaker 3: really do.
- 50:03Speaker 1: I don't know we've heard that before. Maybe you know
- 50:05Speaker 1: every coach that's been here has been his dream job.
- 50:07Speaker 1: And I'm not saying Elko would leave Rustley. Don't get
- 50:10Speaker 1: me wrong. I think I'm not saying.
- 50:11Speaker 3: No, I know what you're saying, but I think this
- 50:14Speaker 3: is really it. Would Mike Elko go to Florida? I
- 50:19Speaker 3: don't think so with what he's done right now at
- 50:23Speaker 3: this sleeping giant.
- 50:24Speaker 1: I mean, why don't you leave right right now? You've built, right,
- 50:29Speaker 1: I mean, if if.
- 50:30Speaker 3: You win a national title here then okay.
- 50:32Speaker 8: Yeah, I'd argue he's still building it.
- 50:34Speaker 1: He's here two years, oh yeah, yeah, he's still four years.
- 50:37Speaker 1: Yeah yeah. But as we've said, day to day, week
- 50:41Speaker 1: to week, year to year, you know, you're not guaranteed anything.
- 50:44Speaker 1: In fact, you're not guaranteed these last four games, you
- 50:47Speaker 1: got to go out and take those last four years.
- 50:49Speaker 8: Still going to be to be Texas, And so I.
- 50:51Speaker 1: Would argue you still have to be South Carolina after
- 50:54Speaker 1: watching them that you know they're still playing pretty hard
- 50:56Speaker 1: with you.
- 50:57Speaker 3: But I'm saying anything less than eleven to one right
- 50:59Speaker 3: now is a.
- 51:00Speaker 1: Sure it is, but they aren't there unless something just
- 51:04Speaker 1: kind of straphic happens. They're going to the playoffs. They're
- 51:07Speaker 1: in the playoffs, right, Yeah, they can lose to Missouri
- 51:11Speaker 1: and Texas and still be in the playoffs. Now, you
- 51:13Speaker 1: don't want to get a committee. You don't want to
- 51:15Speaker 1: do it, and you don't want to give the committee
- 51:17Speaker 1: any any excuse.
- 51:19Speaker 3: Right right now, they're a top four seed, yes, and
- 51:22Speaker 3: so as long as you maintain that, yeah, of course
- 51:26Speaker 3: you still got to go play in the SEC title
- 51:27Speaker 3: game if you're a top four seed, because if you're
- 51:29Speaker 3: eleven and one, you're gonna go play in the SEC
- 51:31Speaker 3: Titler game. Yeah, and yeah.
- 51:33Speaker 1: One loss with one law, Yeah, with one loss, you'll
- 51:36Speaker 1: play in the title game for sure.
- 51:38Speaker 3: And what you do in the title game really doesn't
- 51:40Speaker 3: matter except for seeding.
- 51:41Speaker 1: I guess correct seeding, But the higher.
- 51:44Speaker 3: Seed you want, I mean, obviously you.
- 51:47Speaker 1: Don't want to see where you're gonna go on Ah,
- 51:50Speaker 1: have to play a road game, right yeah, I saw
- 51:53Speaker 1: right now, they're not. They wouldn't have to.
- 51:55Speaker 3: The projection I saw today had A and M is
- 51:58Speaker 3: a four seed and.
- 52:00Speaker 8: It was the three seed.
- 52:01Speaker 1: The three seeds was Alabama.
- 52:03Speaker 3: Oh, Alabama, okay, yeah, and the two seed was Indiana
- 52:06Speaker 3: and yes, yeah, yeah, and A M was going to
- 52:10Speaker 3: play the winner of Georgia and Memphis, Okay at Calfield.
- 52:14Speaker 1: Okay, so that I'll take that. That'd be awesome. Georgia
- 52:18Speaker 1: Calfield have a playoff game. That'd be pretty cool, be.
- 52:21Speaker 3: Fun to see, pretty cool. Yeah.
- 52:23Speaker 1: Yeah, Still still a.
- 52:24Speaker 3: Little like, No, there's there's a lot I got to
- 52:26Speaker 3: take care, a lot of ways to go. And you know,
- 52:28Speaker 3: they've been here, similar situation. There was a similar situation
- 52:31Speaker 3: last year. I just feel like it's a different No.
- 52:33Speaker 1: It's different. Yeah, it's it's totally different. I mean I agree, yeah,
- 52:37Speaker 1: it's not last year.
- 52:38Speaker 3: It's a team that found a way to win against
- 52:40Speaker 3: Notre Dame versus a team that just didn't really show
- 52:43Speaker 3: up last year.
- 52:44Speaker 1: I mean, they are sitting right now they are one
- 52:47Speaker 1: of the three to four best teams in the country.
- 52:49Speaker 1: I don't think there's any question about that.
- 52:51Speaker 3: And they could beat you so many different ways.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Well they can't. I mean they're they're playing on both
- 52:55Speaker 1: sides of the ball. Well, now that's why I asked
- 52:58Speaker 1: the block punts. You know, people may get upset about that,
- 53:01Speaker 1: but I'm going to no, No, it's a good question.
- 53:03Speaker 1: If you're if you're in some of these games, it
- 53:06Speaker 1: is remarkable in my opinion that they've overcome those two mistakes.
- 53:11Speaker 1: And I don't care who you're playing or where you're playing,
- 53:14Speaker 1: but they did it on the road twice with plays
- 53:18Speaker 1: that that typically can turn an entire football game around
- 53:22Speaker 1: against good teams, against two good teams, so the other
- 53:25Speaker 1: one really good team team. Yeah.
- 53:28Speaker 3: The other thing that got to concern you if you're
- 53:30Speaker 3: going to look down the road, if A and M
- 53:33Speaker 3: has to kick a forty five yard field goal with
- 53:35Speaker 3: a game online, that worries me.
- 53:37Speaker 1: Do you have confidence?
- 53:38Speaker 3: I don't have confidence in that right now. And so
- 53:41Speaker 3: the other thing is is you could be nitpicky. I mean,
- 53:44Speaker 3: how can they improve, Well, they can improve in special teams,
- 53:47Speaker 3: they can improve that it reduces to produce the penalties, right, yes,
- 53:51Speaker 3: and they have.
- 53:52Speaker 8: Yeah, this is the best team I've seen offensively since
- 53:57Speaker 8: twenty thirteen, just because they get the ball twenty yard
- 54:00Speaker 8: line with the game on the line, and they could
- 54:01Speaker 8: score in five plays and there was that. So many
- 54:04Speaker 8: teams that couldn't do that. And what I like about
- 54:06Speaker 8: this team opposed the thirteenth team defense, they got a defense. Yeah,
- 54:10Speaker 8: and that's they got both of them because Jimbo built
- 54:13Speaker 8: a pretty decent offense. Uh while Elko was here, but
- 54:18Speaker 8: they couldn't score quick. They couldn't score enough. They were methodical,
- 54:22Speaker 8: you know.
- 54:23Speaker 1: At seventeen played drives exactly.
- 54:25Speaker 8: He got all the weapons, which is nice, which is
- 54:29Speaker 8: what you need. And let's be honest when we're watching
- 54:32Speaker 8: the game I quit to so far was Notre Dame game.
- 54:34Speaker 8: Notre Dame had a great offense. Notre Dame had a
- 54:36Speaker 8: good defense. That was just a good game for the
- 54:39Speaker 8: third game in the year. They might meet again.
- 54:41Speaker 3: And to be fair, the special team touchdowns have been
- 54:45Speaker 3: very good, you know, has been really good.
- 54:48Speaker 16: He's been good. I mean, who who if you're stupid
- 54:50Speaker 16: enough to punt to him? Yeah, so that's on you. Yeah, exactly,
- 54:55Speaker 16: and then bussy. I mean he's he's been good to
- 54:58Speaker 16: return to kickoffs since.
- 55:00Speaker 8: And it ain't even protects the ball. Well, I've never seen
- 55:02Speaker 8: a team that has not.
- 55:04Speaker 1: Today no fumble or one thumb. I don't remember did
- 55:08Speaker 1: I say one?
- 55:09Speaker 8: Maybe they might have won. I think they have won
- 55:11Speaker 8: football when they when they muffed at one almost when
- 55:14Speaker 8: it was bussy, we were saying, when's the last time
- 55:16Speaker 8: we see the fumble? When they protect the football?
- 55:19Speaker 1: That's hell co right, all right, boys, that's.
- 55:22Speaker 8: On my head.
- 55:23Speaker 1: They get off the field. Hey, next week there's a
- 55:26Speaker 1: home game, believe it or not.
- 55:27Speaker 8: Really, I'll be nice and early.
- 55:30Speaker 1: I think it's going to be nice and early, very
- 55:34Speaker 1: zero fumbles. See you guys next week. Must be bursting.
