- 1:33Speaker 1: and recording of Rachel's We'll play that for you in
- 1:34Speaker 1: the second here. That was really cool. Man. That might
- 1:37Speaker 1: be my favorite movie of all time, The Sandlot.
- 1:40Speaker 3: What I loved when my nephew was like three years old,
- 1:43Speaker 3: he'd see people wearing the shirts and he goes, that's
- 1:45Speaker 3: the baseball movie.
- 1:46Speaker 2: So to him, he's eleven now, but when.
- 1:50Speaker 3: He would watch it, it was the Baseball movie and
- 1:53Speaker 3: it was the cutest thing I've ever.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Heard in my life. Best sports movie, maybe best, maybe
- 1:57Speaker 1: the best movie ever made. The Sandlot. It waslast night
- 2:00Speaker 1: was fabulous, iconic. It was fabulous. NHL schedule for the
- 2:04Speaker 1: upcoming season is going to be announced tomorrow at ten

- 2:25Speaker 1: but will continue to serve the organization as senior advisor
- 2:27Speaker 1: to the CEO, Chris Ilich. The team is going to
- 2:31Speaker 1: be searching now for a new head of Hockey Operations.
- 2:34Speaker 1: World Cup Semifinals. Spain absolutely dominant yesterday through the midfield
- 2:38Speaker 1: and on defense to shut down tournament favorite France. We
- 2:41Speaker 1: all said who was going to stop frant Well, Spain
- 2:43Speaker 1: stopped France to nil. Spain wins Roadary and rodri excuse me,
- 2:47Speaker 1: in the middle of the field. Rodriy was amazing for Spain.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Just everything France tried to do to transition, he shut
- 2:54Speaker 1: down almost single handedly. Spain's in the final today noon
- 2:58Speaker 1: in Atlanta, England, and Messi and Argentina go against each

- 3:15Speaker 1: Jessmin and I had a very enjoy the leaving with
- 3:17Speaker 1: our spouses last night, thanks to John Howie over in
- 3:20Speaker 1: Bellevue with that awesome That was a great time. We
- 3:24Speaker 1: do some show planning and catching up and it's.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Just our excuse to go to John Howie to be honest.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Yeah, pretty good steaks. They bring out these salts that
- 3:33Speaker 1: have tears of salts.
- 3:35Speaker 2: They are very good at the salts.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Fancy, yes, lobster mashed potatoes that was kind of good too.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so, Thank you John.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Thanks to John Howie and last night we were Yeah,
- 3:47Speaker 1: we got some work done too, A little bit of
- 3:49Speaker 1: work done too.
- 3:50Speaker 3: I think we remember some work we because they have
- 3:56Speaker 3: really good whiskey as well.
- 3:58Speaker 1: We missed the All Star Game, which after the FIR
- 4:01Speaker 1: I saw the three runs on the top of the
- 4:02Speaker 1: first and then the game was over. National League did
- 4:04Speaker 1: not score, and we'll talk about what the best part
- 4:08Speaker 1: and they had none to do with the actual game
- 4:09Speaker 1: on the field. We'll play that for Ray Charles, the
- 4:12Speaker 1: tribute to the Sandlot. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver talked, and
- 4:16Speaker 1: I already hear you groaning wherever you might be listening from,
- 4:19Speaker 1: and yeah, it was about that. Yesterday. He talked from
- 4:23Speaker 1: the summer League in Las Vegas about expansion where it
- 4:26Speaker 1: stands for Seattle, getting the Sonics back where it stands
- 4:28Speaker 1: for Las Vegas. You'll hear what he said, and I
- 4:30Speaker 1: bet you're not gonna like it. It's not that it's negative,
- 4:33Speaker 1: it's that there's nothing new and the can getting kicked
- 4:37Speaker 1: down the road. At ten to twenty, we'll talk to
- 4:40Speaker 1: Stan Rock, former NFL offensive line in Portland area at Beaverton,
- 4:43Speaker 1: actually Oregon native, the New Orleans Saints Hall of Famer.
- 4:46Speaker 1: I'm gonna ask about offensive line play in the NFL
- 4:49Speaker 1: today from when he played in the eighties and the
- 4:53Speaker 1: outside zone scheme in particular that John Benton has brought
- 4:57Speaker 1: to the Seahawks and how he just simplified and revolutionize
- 5:00Speaker 1: the Seahawks offensive line by being simple. I'm going to
- 5:03Speaker 1: talk to legendary NFL player Stan Rock about that. We're
- 5:07Speaker 1: also going to talk about the hard health of pro
- 5:09Speaker 1: football players. Up to one and three retired football players
- 5:14Speaker 1: die from cardiovascular disease, and that has gotten the attention
- 5:18Speaker 1: of Stan Brock, who's gotten tests and has been proactive,
- 5:21Speaker 1: and he's in some health line and some other initiatives
- 5:24Speaker 1: to screen and a raise awareness of cardiovascular disease, not
- 5:28Speaker 1: just in former football players, but for all of us.
- 5:30Speaker 1: He'll talk about that with us as well at ten twenty.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I know you've talked to him and his doctor about that, and.
- 5:36Speaker 3: It's yes, there's a lot that you don't know that's
- 5:40Speaker 3: going on. You could be and you'll hear this on
- 5:43Speaker 3: Seattle Voice this weekend as well, but I think you'll
- 5:46Speaker 3: hear more of it with us at ten twenty. The
- 5:51Speaker 3: things that you don't know that are going on in
- 5:53Speaker 3: your body, and the organization that they're working with actually
- 5:58Speaker 3: can predetermine that.
- 6:00Speaker 2: And preventative care is self care and it is.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Healthcare save your life life.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Yes, because a lot of people, which Stan talked about
- 6:10Speaker 3: but with me earlier today, was just you're doing everything right?
- 6:17Speaker 2: What could be wrong?
- 6:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not that easy, is it.
- 6:20Speaker 2: No, it is not.
- 6:22Speaker 4: Well.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Also here from our friend Steve White to the NFL network.
- 6:25Speaker 1: He had news yesterday and what role general manager John
- 6:28Speaker 1: Schneider and coach Mike McDonald played in the Seahawks choice
- 6:31Speaker 1: for new owners. You'll hear from Steve Whisch about that.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Eleven thirty. Again, we're going to do the World Cup
- 6:36Speaker 1: pregame show like we did yesterday, the iHeart National pregame show.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I think Anderson Hurst is doing it again, is he not?
- 6:41Speaker 2: I believe he is.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm not sure which cast of the Brad Evans
- 6:45Speaker 1: or Danny Jackson or who it might be with it.
- 6:47Speaker 3: They have Brad, Danny, Anders and Jackson have all been
- 6:52Speaker 3: working their butts off and there have been so many
- 6:55Speaker 3: games that we have carried and continued to carry, so
- 6:59Speaker 3: maybe all of them.
- 7:01Speaker 1: One hundred plus. Then the entire tournament, there are only
- 7:04Speaker 1: three left. Today's semi final at noon here on ninety
- 7:07Speaker 1: three point three kjrs. It's going to be Argentina against
- 7:12Speaker 1: England for a spot in the World Cup Finals Sunday
- 7:14Speaker 1: in the Meadowlands opposite Spain. And then there's also a
- 7:17Speaker 1: third place match that's going to take place Saturday in Miami,
- 7:21Speaker 1: and that's where France will be headed and a loser
- 7:23Speaker 1: of Argentina England will play France in the third place
- 7:25Speaker 1: game in Miami of the World Cup.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Are we going for Argentina.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I'm going for England? What yeah?
- 7:33Speaker 2: Why?
- 7:34Speaker 1: Well, it's been since nineteen sixty six since they won
- 7:37Speaker 1: and they have rarely gotten this close. I really like
- 7:41Speaker 1: how Jude Bellingham plays. I think Anthony Gordon is phenomenal
- 7:45Speaker 1: down the left side. I think there's history to be
- 7:48Speaker 1: made on this team Argentina as great as they are,
- 7:51Speaker 1: and they've been there and they're defending champs and number
- 7:54Speaker 1: all that, there are some dark, dark stuff in the
- 7:57Speaker 1: closets of the Argentinian Football Federation and not all of
- 8:00Speaker 1: it is just messy and glory, and there's some exploitation
- 8:05Speaker 1: and some things that have come to light during this
- 8:06Speaker 1: tournament that is sad, but it's and it's not It
- 8:10Speaker 1: could it could happen and maybe happening all over the world.
- 8:12Speaker 1: But I read about that in Argentina. Anyway, the fans,
- 8:18Speaker 1: the history all.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Of that, Saints right, No.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I'm not saying English, they're saints. They've got hooligans and yeah, sure,
- 8:25Speaker 1: but it's coming home. They've been saying that since nineteen
- 8:28Speaker 1: sixty six and that's a long time. So yeah, I'm
- 8:34Speaker 1: rooting for the English today. As a matter of fact,
- 8:36Speaker 1: I know that's sacrilege here in the station because Anderson
- 8:38Speaker 1: Hurst and his Argentinian family, and.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Yeah he's adopted Argentinian, yes, but yeah, the Argentina's they
- 8:47Speaker 3: come from an Irish background.
- 8:48Speaker 1: So well there's a rivalry with England there exactly, yes,
- 8:53Speaker 1: but yeah, you go back to Maridona and I mean
- 8:55Speaker 1: Argentina has been there a while. It's been a long
- 8:58Speaker 1: long time, sixty years for England. So yeah, I'm in
- 9:00Speaker 1: for England four nine, four to five. One. Who you
- 9:02Speaker 1: were before? You care about the World Cup? Are you've
- 9:04Speaker 1: done with it? You're like, okay, pack it up, let's go.
- 9:07Speaker 1: They will pack up the grass field tomorrow night after
- 9:11Speaker 1: Lumenfield hosts the MLS return of the Sounders after the
- 9:15Speaker 1: World Cup break against Portland. You'll hear that match at
- 9:17Speaker 1: seven thirty tomorrow. Jackson Feltz will have the pregame and
- 9:20Speaker 1: we'll have the broadcast at seven thirty Thursday tomorrow night.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Portland Timbers against the Seattle Sounders on the Lumenfield grass pitch,
- 9:26Speaker 1: and then they're going to cart it on out of there.
- 9:28Speaker 1: It's going to take a couple of weeks of transition.
- 9:30Speaker 1: They're going to break down the wooden platform and boxes
- 9:33Speaker 1: that were holding up the grass field over top of
- 9:35Speaker 1: the turf, and then here comes the turf and the
- 9:38Speaker 1: first Friday in August, the Seahawks will have a fan
- 9:40Speaker 1: fest day and a scrimmage there on the turf and
- 9:43Speaker 1: back to normal. And we've talked about it all week.
- 9:46Speaker 1: The new owners, that's one place they could have an
- 9:48Speaker 1: immediate tangible impact if they want to spend money and
- 9:52Speaker 1: have the Seahawks have a grass field. I don't know
- 9:54Speaker 1: any indications that they're going to do that. I haven't
- 9:56Speaker 1: talked to anybody about that since the sale approval came
- 10:00Speaker 1: out on Saturday, but the Coasal family. The reason why
- 10:04Speaker 1: teams decide between grass and turf is an owner just
- 10:07Speaker 1: ship decision. Does the ownership want to pay the money
- 10:11Speaker 1: to change out grass if they have to after holding
- 10:13Speaker 1: a concert or tractor pool or what have you. The
- 10:17Speaker 1: answer in Seattle has been no. So far, the Allen
- 10:19Speaker 1: family has said we are going to have turf. Now
- 10:22Speaker 1: there are people like myself who remember that stadium campaign
- 10:25Speaker 1: in the late nineties and there was a belief that
- 10:29Speaker 1: that was going to be a grass field put in
- 10:31Speaker 1: partly because of soccer, but part of that stadium campaign
- 10:35Speaker 1: was we were going to have a grass field at Lumenfield.
- 10:38Speaker 1: And whether it's practical purposes of being able to host
- 10:41Speaker 1: multiple events or it's just saving on the bottom line
- 10:44Speaker 1: and not paying the grass maintenance, there has not been
- 10:47Speaker 1: natural grass in the New Seahawks Stadium since it opened
- 10:50Speaker 1: twenty four years ago. This week is I think there's
- 10:54Speaker 1: time for that. And there is a ground swell within
- 10:55Speaker 1: the NFL Players Association to say wait a minute, and
- 10:58Speaker 1: the Players Association Executive director J. C. Tretdor has said
- 11:02Speaker 1: these very words. If you can do this for the
- 11:03Speaker 1: World Cup, why can't we do it for the NFL players.
- 11:07Speaker 1: They went in and went jumped, went all through hoops
- 11:10Speaker 1: to get grass fields even in indoor stadiums in Atlanta
- 11:13Speaker 1: and Dallas. And then it's going to go right back
- 11:15Speaker 1: to turf now that the World Cup's gone. And some
- 11:17Speaker 1: players in the Players Association in the Union say wait
- 11:19Speaker 1: a minute. It's a quality of life issue for us
- 11:23Speaker 1: and we want to play on the grass, and the
- 11:24Speaker 1: owners have so far many owners, not all, but many
- 11:27Speaker 1: owners have resisted that because the cost money, costs money
- 11:31Speaker 1: to replace and maintain real grass over turf. Anyway. Four
- 11:35Speaker 1: nine your thoughts on that, Does Loomingfield need grass for
- 11:39Speaker 1: the Seahawks to play on? Yes? I know it rains.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Only players can talk about that though, Like, I don't know.
- 11:45Speaker 1: If the players I've talked to want grass, right.
- 11:48Speaker 2: But do fans care?
- 11:50Speaker 1: I that's a good question, because they're out running around
- 11:53Speaker 1: getting tackled on it.
- 11:54Speaker 2: No, they're not.
- 11:55Speaker 3: And I don't think it really does anything to the
- 11:58Speaker 3: viewing experience either. You know, with the consuming of the game.
- 12:04Speaker 1: You have a point there. It's not affecting us.
- 12:06Speaker 3: It is.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Up next Stan Brock, former NFL offensive line We're gonna
- 12:11Speaker 1: talk about offensive line play in the NFL today compared
- 12:13Speaker 1: to when he played New Orleans Saints Hall of famer,
- 12:16Speaker 1: and about heart health in the increased risk of cardiovascular
- 12:20Speaker 1: disease and former professional football players. Stan Brock Next, Steve
- 12:24Speaker 1: Whitch on the Seahawk ownership situation. Adam Silver kicking the
- 12:28Speaker 1: can All that's coming up on ninety three point three
- 12:30Speaker 1: kJ RFM welcome back at this time as the band
- 13:01Speaker 1: started Bland. Welcome back, Greg Belt, Jessmin McIntyre. On ninety
- 13:05Speaker 1: three point three KJRFM. Coming up, you're gonna hear from
- 13:09Speaker 1: Steve Witch of NFL Network on what he's learned about
- 13:13Speaker 1: how John Schneider and Mike McDonald, the GM and the
- 13:16Speaker 1: coach of the Seahawks were involved in the choosing of
- 13:19Speaker 1: the new Seahawks owner close with family. Then at eleven
- 13:23Speaker 1: o'clock you're gonna hear from Adam Silver and what he
- 13:25Speaker 1: had to say yesterday from the NBA Summer League. Yeah,
- 13:30Speaker 1: it's not great about expansion. It's just more of the
- 13:33Speaker 1: same of Hummadahammada. But you'll hear what he said, and
- 13:36Speaker 1: he still says it's going to happen at the end
- 13:38Speaker 1: of the year. But you'll see how he said it
- 13:39Speaker 1: this time.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Yes, let's get more of his mouth speak from another commissioner.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Don stan Brock is a longtime NFL offensive lineman. He's
- 13:50Speaker 1: born and raised in Beaverton, Oregon, has moved back to
- 13:53Speaker 1: the Pacific Northwest and the Portland area, and he is
- 13:58Speaker 1: a crusade to let us know about cardiovascular disease and
- 14:02Speaker 1: the prevalence of it in former pro football players, and
- 14:05Speaker 1: he has a lot more to say than just that.
- 14:07Speaker 1: He's also the former head coach of my army West
- 14:10Speaker 1: Point Black Knights Army team, the Pride Beam Everyheart, and
- 14:13Speaker 1: Gray stan Brock was the head coach of them after
- 14:15Speaker 1: Bobby Rush left. I'm gonna ask him about that as well.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Sandbrock joined us in the Beacon Plumbing Hotline live from
- 14:21Speaker 1: I believe the Portland area. Ho sir, good morning, Good
- 14:25Speaker 1: morning Greg.
- 14:26Speaker 4: Yeah, we're up here in the Seattle area.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Actually, oh you came up. Okay, that's right.
- 14:31Speaker 4: Yeah, great to be on your show.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Thank you, thanks for joining us. I wanted to ask
- 14:35Speaker 1: you right off the top of what your involvement is
- 14:37Speaker 1: with football today. Are you still coaching, are you advising?
- 14:41Speaker 1: Are you just a fan watching?
- 14:45Speaker 4: I'm a fan watching and I do have a football
- 14:51Speaker 4: camp for lineman that I do. We just had it
- 14:53Speaker 4: this last weekend. It's a high school age kids offensive
- 14:58Speaker 4: line camps called Trench Camp. Forgiving me the time to
- 15:02Speaker 4: plug that a little bit.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Yes, sir, what do you what do you teach? Because
- 15:06Speaker 1: it's going to segue into my next question with you
- 15:08Speaker 1: about the Sea Owks what are you teaching all blocking schemes?
- 15:11Speaker 1: Are you teaching just more fundamentals.
- 15:14Speaker 4: Basic techniques, right, because all high schools will have all
- 15:18Speaker 4: different kind of techniques, right and so uh but but
- 15:22Speaker 4: sound techniques are sound techniques no matter what scheme that
- 15:27Speaker 4: you're using. So it's basically uh uh, let's see, Well,
- 15:33Speaker 4: it's we have a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, so we have
- 15:37Speaker 4: five practices and so it's basically five practices of individual period,
- 15:43Speaker 4: which if you ask any offensive or defensive line coach,
- 15:48Speaker 4: the one thing that they don't get enough of is
- 15:50Speaker 4: individual period.
- 15:53Speaker 1: And how has sense it does? And the techniques or
- 15:56Speaker 1: the fundamentals are probably lost in many cases. Yeah, how
- 16:01Speaker 1: is football?
- 16:02Speaker 4: I think you can still have to step go ahead, say.
- 16:05Speaker 1: I was going to ask you, Stan Brock, how has
- 16:07Speaker 1: football offensive line playing football changed since you played? And
- 16:11Speaker 1: what do you notice now that either wasn't there or
- 16:14Speaker 1: was still developing when you played?
- 16:17Speaker 4: Well, I think that one of the things that I
- 16:20Speaker 4: noticed is that guys are bigger, stronger, faster, whatever. However
- 16:26Speaker 4: you want to say that, I think their technique is
- 16:31Speaker 4: is not as good. I think it's poor. I think
- 16:34Speaker 4: that they're just so big that they can get in
- 16:37Speaker 4: the way offensive I'm talking about offensive line, and then
- 16:40Speaker 4: get in the way they can keep people from going
- 16:43Speaker 4: where they want to go. I think that the running
- 16:48Speaker 4: backs are are much more gifted and they can basically
- 16:53Speaker 4: also the offensive i'man asked to do is just kind
- 16:55Speaker 4: of get in the way for a few seconds and
- 16:57Speaker 4: the and the running back can get out where he
- 17:00Speaker 4: needs to be. I mean, we can talk for hours
- 17:05Speaker 4: about the difference of training camp, but I think that
- 17:11Speaker 4: the difference there has to be a happy medium somewhere.
- 17:16Speaker 4: I believe in the fact that I really think that
- 17:20Speaker 4: the reason that so many players at all different positions
- 17:24Speaker 4: are getting hurt is because they haven't gotten their bodies
- 17:29Speaker 4: so used to the pounding that it takes to play
- 17:32Speaker 4: for a full season in the National Football League. I
- 17:36Speaker 4: know when I played, we had basically six weeks of
- 17:40Speaker 4: two days and we played four preseason games. In the
- 17:46Speaker 4: preseason games were basically our days off because we work
- 17:50Speaker 4: so hard during the other days. I don't think that's right.
- 17:55Speaker 4: I'm not saying that that's right, but I think that
- 17:59Speaker 4: to to try to go out onto the field right
- 18:02Speaker 4: now with as a professional football player and try to
- 18:10Speaker 4: even like blitz pickup. To do blitz pickup, you have
- 18:13Speaker 4: to see that at full speed, otherwise you're going to
- 18:15Speaker 4: get your quarterback killed. And that's why quarterbacks are getting
- 18:19Speaker 4: run over and killed because the line hasn't seen anything
- 18:23Speaker 4: happen at full speed. And so I guess that's that's
- 18:28Speaker 4: those are. That's the biggest difference of that scene.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Stanbrock joining us on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. He's visiting
- 18:34Speaker 1: from Seattle from the Portland area. He's with Heartline and
- 18:37Speaker 1: a health initiative on cardiovascular disease and former football players.
- 18:41Speaker 1: He played for fifteen years in the NFL, most of
- 18:44Speaker 1: them with the New Orleans Saints sixteen excuse me, thank you,
- 18:48Speaker 1: most of them with the New Orleans, New Orleans Saints.
- 18:51Speaker 1: He was a Hall of Famer for the Saints, playing
- 18:53Speaker 1: from nineteen eighty to ninety two with the Saints and
- 18:56Speaker 1: then his last three seasons with the San Diego Charge.
- 18:58Speaker 1: You mentioned training camp, sir, you did two days and
- 19:01Speaker 1: you did him outside New Orleans? Were your training camps
- 19:05Speaker 1: we did? Where? Where were they then? I mean were
- 19:07Speaker 1: you doing? You were probably doing Oklahoma drills? And how
- 19:10Speaker 1: much time did you have to recuperate? Between practices. That
- 19:13Speaker 1: was it.
- 19:15Speaker 4: So when I started in New Orleans, our training camp
- 19:18Speaker 4: was in Vero Beach, Florida, and uh, mister Mikam owned
- 19:22Speaker 4: the team. Mister Mekam owned the team. Uh yeah, still
- 19:26Speaker 4: hot though. Uh mister mekm owned the team. Then he
- 19:29Speaker 4: sold the team to to Tom Benson and Tom Benson
- 19:31Speaker 4: then we moved our training camp to oh Man uh
- 19:38Speaker 4: in Central Louisiana. Uh Monroe, Monroe, Louisiana. And we were
- 19:44Speaker 4: up in Monroe, super hot, crazy bum Phillips was up there,
- 19:48Speaker 4: you know, and uh it was it was just there
- 19:52Speaker 4: was a there was a thermometer across on a bank
- 19:55Speaker 4: and it would say like one hundred and four degrees,
- 19:57Speaker 4: you know, and the humidity was so high it was crazy.
- 20:01Speaker 4: Then we went to Hammond, Louisiana, which was just about
- 20:05Speaker 4: an hour north of New Orleans, and that was surrounded
- 20:10Speaker 4: by trees. That was with Jim Mora, and I'm he
- 20:14Speaker 4: surprised that we didn't kill somebody there in that heat.
- 20:18Speaker 4: Guys would drop like flies when we were running gassers
- 20:22Speaker 4: at the end of practice and full body cramps and
- 20:26Speaker 4: they'd have to go, you know, I vm up so
- 20:28Speaker 4: that they could make the second practice, but yeah, there
- 20:33Speaker 4: was no advantage for us, right. We practiced outside in
- 20:38Speaker 4: New Orleans my whole career there, and then you know,
- 20:42Speaker 4: the visiting teams would come and we got to play
- 20:44Speaker 4: in the in the air conditioned Superdome, So there was
- 20:49Speaker 4: no advantage.
- 20:50Speaker 1: So Stan, you would practice in this stifling heat of
- 20:54Speaker 1: the Louisiana Bayou in July and August. What time was
- 20:58Speaker 1: practice and when was the second one? And how much
- 20:59Speaker 1: time did you have between practices?
- 21:03Speaker 4: Yeah, we practiced. I think I don't know. You had
- 21:05Speaker 4: to be at breakfast, like at eight. We were on
- 21:08Speaker 4: the field. We were always on the field for two
- 21:10Speaker 4: or two and a half hours and then you get
- 21:13Speaker 4: you know, a couple hours off or you know, for
- 21:16Speaker 4: lunch and to get a nap. And did I was
- 21:20Speaker 4: losing when we were in when we were in Hammond, Louisiana,
- 21:25Speaker 4: I was losing thirteen pounds per practice.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Wow.
- 21:29Speaker 4: And yeah, by the time the afternoon practice came around,
- 21:36Speaker 4: you know, you're drink enough water and all that that
- 21:39Speaker 4: you would get the way back, but then you would
- 21:40Speaker 4: be back down to thirteen pounds that night.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Wow.
- 21:43Speaker 4: I was losing thirteen pounds of practice.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Hit.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Wow, stan Brock listed it and I felt like that
- 21:48Speaker 1: was a good shape dude. And nowadays, for those of
- 21:52Speaker 1: you listening, you can't have more than five consecutive practices
- 21:56Speaker 1: for the collecting Barting agreement before we need a day off.
- 21:58Speaker 1: In training camp. There are no two a days, no
- 22:01Speaker 1: Oklahoma drills. You were limited in a number of fool
- 22:04Speaker 1: pads practices you can have during training camps. None of
- 22:07Speaker 1: those limitations were when stan Bruck was there in the
- 22:10Speaker 1: New Orleans he.
- 22:11Speaker 4: No, that sounds yeah, that sounds like our off season workout.
- 22:16Speaker 1: As you know, the Seahawks hired long time offensive line
- 22:19Speaker 1: coach John Benton before last yeason. He changed the offensive
- 22:22Speaker 1: lines approached Danny. The Seahawks had done a little bit
- 22:25Speaker 1: of Pope prix of everything. They were inside zone, outside zone,
- 22:28Speaker 1: they were gap scheme, they were pulling and trapping. John
- 22:31Speaker 1: Benton comes to say, note, we're outside zone. And the
- 22:33Speaker 1: players all told me. The offensive lineman told me that
- 22:36Speaker 1: was revolutionary. Abe Lucas said, instead of masters of everything,
- 22:39Speaker 1: we just had that master one thing. And him to him,
- 22:42Speaker 1: that was the difference in them becoming a jailed unit
- 22:45Speaker 1: and performing unit last year. From what you know of
- 22:47Speaker 1: outside zone. What are the tricks? What's an offensive lineman
- 22:51Speaker 1: need to be? How do you as you see it
- 22:53Speaker 1: when you watch games? How does that suit the Seahawks?
- 22:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I think you know, watching their offensive
- 23:00Speaker 4: line and it's they're they're blessed that they you know,
- 23:02Speaker 4: they have all of them coming back this year too,
- 23:04Speaker 4: which is super cool. Yeah, outside zone is it's basically
- 23:10Speaker 4: it's a companion blocking. It's going to be US two
- 23:14Speaker 4: on two of those and wherever they wherever they fall.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Uh And and what it does is it gives the
- 23:20Speaker 4: running back. You know where the running back's going. So
- 23:25Speaker 4: if you we can break it down, like if you're
- 23:27Speaker 4: looking at the defensive end and the defensive end is
- 23:29Speaker 4: playing hard outside to the right, then by the time
- 23:34Speaker 4: that the outside zone blocker, the right tackle and the
- 23:37Speaker 4: right guard, by the time they get out there, the
- 23:40Speaker 4: center can get somebody cut off. And that's where those
- 23:42Speaker 4: cutback angles are. So you kind of know it's an
- 23:47Speaker 4: offensive lineman where the where the running back is headed
- 23:51Speaker 4: and what he's looking at and the guy that he's
- 23:54Speaker 4: reading can't be right. So if if they play inside,
- 23:57Speaker 4: then they're going outside. If the defense plays out, he's
- 24:00Speaker 4: coming back inside. So and anytime you simplify really anything
- 24:08Speaker 4: across the board, you shrink that playbook down and you
- 24:14Speaker 4: could start really you know, just getting good at what
- 24:17Speaker 4: you're doing. That's that's gonna help.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Always. Always. We're listening to Stanbrox, sixteen year NFL offensive lineman,
- 24:24Speaker 1: Portland Area native and New Orleans Saints Hall of famer,
- 24:27Speaker 1: talking to us on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline on ninety
- 24:29Speaker 1: three point three KJRFM. You went from Jesuit High School
- 24:32Speaker 1: to see you Boulder and then into the NFL with
- 24:35Speaker 1: the Saints and then the Chargers, as I said, the
- 24:37Speaker 1: last three years, and then it was you got to
- 24:41Speaker 1: be the West Point coach. You replaced Bobby Ross after
- 24:44Speaker 1: he resigned former Marine officer in San Diego Chargers head
- 24:48Speaker 1: coach that was Army's coach for a time. How was it?
- 24:50Speaker 1: What was the connection there that got you to West
- 24:53Speaker 1: Point to be Armies head coach?
- 24:57Speaker 4: Bobby Ross was our head coach when I went and
- 24:59Speaker 4: played in San Diego, and then he was with the
- 25:03Speaker 4: Detroit Lions and he had offered me the offensive line
- 25:08Speaker 4: job in Detroit, but I had just taken the head
- 25:13Speaker 4: coach job for the Arena team in LA, the LA Avengers,
- 25:18Speaker 4: and I didn't think it was proper or fair to
- 25:24Speaker 4: to leave that guy, the owner of that team, to
- 25:29Speaker 4: go to the NFL, and so I made that decision.
- 25:34Speaker 4: And then it was just a short time later than
- 25:38Speaker 4: that guy from LA fired me, which was super kind
- 25:40Speaker 4: of him. So but then Bobby Ross called me and
- 25:46Speaker 4: he said that he was going to take the army
- 25:48Speaker 4: job and wanted me to be here the offensive line coach.
- 25:51Speaker 4: And it's a it's a really cool story. I don't
- 25:54Speaker 4: know how much time you have, but I went in there.
- 25:58Speaker 4: The hair on the back of my neck stood up
- 26:00Speaker 4: when I went through the gates, and I knew that's
- 26:05Speaker 4: where I wanted to be. And I had my wife
- 26:11Speaker 4: with me, and she was riding in the back of
- 26:14Speaker 4: the truck of the UH one of the colonels who
- 26:17Speaker 4: was showing us around, and she just reach over and
- 26:21Speaker 4: grab me, and she says, you're doing this, aren't you.
- 26:23Speaker 4: I'm like, I think I am, And she was super disappointed.
- 26:29Speaker 4: But I saw I say that I took her in there.
- 26:33Speaker 4: She was crying when I brought her in there, and
- 26:35Speaker 4: UH and really six years later we fell in love
- 26:38Speaker 4: with that place and she was she was crying even
- 26:41Speaker 4: harder when we left. So I loved that place. So
- 26:44Speaker 4: I was the offensive line coach there for for four years,
- 26:48Speaker 4: and then Bobby Ross recommended that I take over. He
- 26:51Speaker 4: was going to step down, and the superintendent and athletic
- 26:56Speaker 4: director agreed, and and I became the head coach of
- 27:00Speaker 4: the United States Military Academy at West White, which I'm
- 27:03Speaker 4: so proud of.
- 27:04Speaker 1: You said, the hair stood up in the back of
- 27:06Speaker 1: your neck. I assume you went to I assume you
- 27:09Speaker 1: went through thay Ergate. What was it about I did.
- 27:12Speaker 1: I'm a nineteen ninety three graduate of West Point, so
- 27:14Speaker 1: that's why I wasn't asking you. Yeah, I understood, yeah,
- 27:18Speaker 1: But what was it about that coaching, that environment of
- 27:21Speaker 1: those players who were obviously not there to play football.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Foremost they're there to serve our country and be second lieutenants.
- 27:27Speaker 1: But the coaching, that leadership dynamic of that being a
- 27:32Speaker 1: leader of football men in a leadership academy at West Point,
- 27:36Speaker 1: what was that experience like?
- 27:40Speaker 4: And I think only you were going to be able
- 27:42Speaker 4: to understand this, but it was a little disappointing. Not
- 27:49Speaker 4: with the kids. The greatest people in the world are
- 27:52Speaker 4: the kids that go to those academies. What disappointed me
- 27:56Speaker 4: was the leadership of the of the institution. It's like,
- 28:02Speaker 4: in my opinion, most of the people who were there
- 28:04Speaker 4: that were in leadership, they were all looking for, uh,
- 28:08Speaker 4: to move up in rank, they were all looking for
- 28:10Speaker 4: a promotion. There was a lot of I I did this,
- 28:14Speaker 4: I've done that, I'm doing this and uh. In the meantime,
- 28:18Speaker 4: they're teaching. We and the players all understand we so
- 28:25Speaker 4: from the players standpoint, they are the greatest kids in
- 28:28Speaker 4: the world. Uh, I'm so proud of them what they've
- 28:32Speaker 4: done after football, what they you know, to everyone out
- 28:37Speaker 4: of everyone at West Point has to be do something athletic.
- 28:41Speaker 4: No one gets to go back to their to their
- 28:43Speaker 4: room and study. Everyone has to do something. But the
- 28:47Speaker 4: time that some of the uh, you know, the the
- 28:50Speaker 4: some of the athletes put in there, uh and for
- 28:53Speaker 4: them still to graduate the United States Military Academy is
- 28:58Speaker 4: just phenomenal. Lu uh and yeah. And I don't think
- 29:04Speaker 4: that those kids ever really recognize how special they were.
- 29:08Speaker 1: That's a humbleness that's born into you, drilled into you
- 29:11Speaker 1: today you get there. But thank you, sir for yeah
- 29:13Speaker 1: coaching Stanbrock doining US on the Beacon Plumbing Highline. He
- 29:18Speaker 1: recently enrolled in heart Flow's heart Flows Game Film Registry.
- 29:22Speaker 1: It's a program that analyzes heart health of former professional athletes.
- 29:26Speaker 1: It uses AI technology, first of its kind, to help
- 29:29Speaker 1: predict what's coming for your heart. As you know, stand
- 29:33Speaker 1: up to one in three retired professional football players die
- 29:35Speaker 1: from cardiovascular disease. How'd you get involved with heartflow? What
- 29:40Speaker 1: have you learned? And what would you like people to
- 29:42Speaker 1: know about this?
- 29:45Speaker 4: A lot? Jim Kovac was a linebacker for US. He
- 29:50Speaker 4: was out of Kentucky. He played with the Saints, And
- 29:53Speaker 4: so Jim Kovac was a doctor we call uh and
- 29:57Speaker 4: he he actually got his whatever degree when he was
- 30:02Speaker 4: there playing for the Saints and then he became a lawyer.
- 30:05Speaker 4: But he called me and he said that he was
- 30:07Speaker 4: involved with heartflow, and and so he kind of explained
- 30:11Speaker 4: to me what for heartflow was. I went to their website,
- 30:14Speaker 4: and the website is heartflow dot com slash football if
- 30:18Speaker 4: anybody wants to look it up. It's a really interesting,
- 30:21Speaker 4: uh thing. And so I started kind of looking at
- 30:24Speaker 4: it and uh and what the heartflow does is actually
- 30:29Speaker 4: what they're looking at is they're taking a three D
- 30:32Speaker 4: picture of your heart and all the arteries in the
- 30:37Speaker 4: and all everything that's going in, all your plumbing basically
- 30:40Speaker 4: for your heart. And because you don't know, there's no
- 30:46Speaker 4: signs that you have heart disease, there's no you know, basically,
- 30:50Speaker 4: you you know you have a heart attack. And that's
- 30:52Speaker 4: when they find it. They they check your cholesterol and
- 30:56Speaker 4: say you're cholesterol is high, but they don't really know
- 30:58Speaker 4: what's going on, and started you're inside of your heart.
- 31:01Speaker 4: You can have high blood pressure, but they still don't
- 31:03Speaker 4: know really what's going on inside of the heart. But
- 31:06Speaker 4: the heart flow they actually, like I laid down in
- 31:12Speaker 4: a cat scan and they they took a cat scan
- 31:17Speaker 4: off my heart and they were able to then show
- 31:20Speaker 4: it to me on a three D screen and move
- 31:23Speaker 4: it around and show me, you know, all of my
- 31:26Speaker 4: arteries and everything that was coming and what the flow
- 31:30Speaker 4: was like coming in and out of my heart. So
- 31:35Speaker 4: it was something. The question that doctor asked me is
- 31:39Speaker 4: doctor chang Over at Cardio now here in Seattle. I
- 31:45Speaker 4: came up here for it, and he asked me, do
- 31:49Speaker 4: you think you have heart disease? And I said, no,
- 31:51Speaker 4: I don't think I do. And then after he showed
- 31:54Speaker 4: me everything and showed me this three d He asked
- 31:57Speaker 4: me the same question. I said, yeah, I think I do,
- 31:59Speaker 4: because there was a lot of plaque built up in there.
- 32:01Speaker 4: And so now I'm going through some stages.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Now.
- 32:05Speaker 4: I have another appointment with him this next weekend. I'm
- 32:09Speaker 4: working very hard to get that all cleared up. I have,
- 32:16Speaker 4: you know, four daughters and twelve grandchildren, and I want
- 32:20Speaker 4: to see those grandkids, right. I want to I got
- 32:23Speaker 4: high school age grandkids now. I love watching them play sports,
- 32:26Speaker 4: and the younger ones playing sports, and I want to
- 32:29Speaker 4: see them get married and have kids.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Right. And so.
- 32:33Speaker 4: You know, you can compare it to a lot of things.
- 32:34Speaker 4: You can compare it to you know, CTE whatever. Fifteen
- 32:39Speaker 4: years ago, nobody knew anything about CTE, right, and now
- 32:42Speaker 4: all of a sudden, those studies, all the studies are
- 32:44Speaker 4: out there. And I think that the same is true
- 32:47Speaker 4: for the heart disease. And I think this is something that's
- 32:50Speaker 4: that's you know, groundbreaking, and if we can get get
- 32:54Speaker 4: this out there to more people, not just you know,
- 32:57Speaker 4: you don't have to be an athlete, athletes, doesn't matter.
- 33:01Speaker 4: There's Doctor Chang told us this morning that more people
- 33:05Speaker 4: will die of heart, of heart disease than they will
- 33:08Speaker 4: of cancer. And so, uh, this is a great opportunity
- 33:13Speaker 4: to do this. And so if I can help get
- 33:15Speaker 4: the word out not only to some of my fellow players,
- 33:18Speaker 4: but to the general public, that's that's my goal.
- 33:21Speaker 1: That's doctor Eugene Chang he's talking about now in Seattle
- 33:24Speaker 1: based cardiologists. And that's what Stan Brock he's up here
- 33:27Speaker 1: seeing as well. It's heartflow dot com all one with
- 33:30Speaker 1: heartflow dot com. If you want more information on the
- 33:34Speaker 1: systems and analysis and three D damaging.
- 33:36Speaker 4: That slash slash football, Greg if you will's heartflow dot
- 33:42Speaker 4: com and then you slash football on it. It's it's
- 33:45Speaker 4: even better because that old football stuffy.
- 33:47Speaker 1: Well, yes, thank you for that. Let me ask you
- 33:49Speaker 1: before I let you go. You mentioned CTE. There are
- 33:53Speaker 1: studies all over about neurodegenerative diseases being higher in football
- 33:57Speaker 1: players than the regular population. There are stuff out this
- 34:00Speaker 1: week from christ Now Whiskey in the Boston area and
- 34:03Speaker 1: the Concussion Institute there in the CTE Institute that ALS
- 34:08Speaker 1: is forty two times more prevalent in former football players
- 34:13Speaker 1: than in the general population. You mentioned the cardiovascular risk
- 34:17Speaker 1: does it concern you, does it the long term quality
- 34:19Speaker 1: of life? Not just you you're in your now sixties,
- 34:22Speaker 1: but those that are come after you and former players?
- 34:25Speaker 1: Is that a particular concern of yours? And how how
- 34:29Speaker 1: do you deal with that in the science that is
- 34:31Speaker 1: coming out well after you play.
- 34:35Speaker 4: I yes, it's a concern. I'm very concerned. I have
- 34:39Speaker 4: some friends, teammates that uh and old coach too. You
- 34:44Speaker 4: know that that you know they're they're cognitive. It's not
- 34:51Speaker 4: very it's not very good. You know, they're they're short
- 34:53Speaker 4: term memory and things like that. They're just not very good.
- 34:58Speaker 4: I feel very fortunate and blessed. I think I'm okay.
- 35:01Speaker 4: I'm sixty eight years old, and I would think that,
- 35:05Speaker 4: you know, when I have gone through some of the
- 35:08Speaker 4: NFL testing that you know, I think cognitively I'm the
- 35:13Speaker 4: I'm like most sixty eight year old people. Sometimes I
- 35:17Speaker 4: forget what I'm why I came in the kitchen or
- 35:20Speaker 4: you know, But I think that's kind of natural. But
- 35:25Speaker 4: I am like I have. I have teammates and coaches
- 35:30Speaker 4: and guys who I know. I see them. They have it.
- 35:33Speaker 4: They they have it. And there's some kids that played
- 35:37Speaker 4: for me in arena football that that you know, the
- 35:40Speaker 4: symptoms of their attitudes and stuff like that. It's just like,
- 35:44Speaker 4: you know, I think you have it, so you know,
- 35:50Speaker 4: it is there. Is it preventable? I don't know. I
- 35:57Speaker 4: know that I feel very blessed that it's not affecting me,
- 36:03Speaker 4: But I do worry about you know, the other the others.
- 36:06Speaker 4: But I don't I don't know that that football is
- 36:09Speaker 4: the you know, it's not football, right, I think it's sports.
- 36:13Speaker 4: I watch my my grandkids play soccer. Man, they those
- 36:16Speaker 4: balls that hit them in the head. So that's that's
- 36:19Speaker 4: got to be rocking that thing around a little bit too,
- 36:21Speaker 4: you know. So I don't know. Yeah, I worry about it,
- 36:26Speaker 4: of course I worry about it. And uh and I
- 36:30Speaker 4: think that uh, you know, it's it's it's like the
- 36:33Speaker 4: heart stuff. Now that that I'm talking about is that
- 36:37Speaker 4: at least people are out there trying to help each
- 36:39Speaker 4: other out with it.

- 37:22Speaker 2: I could say.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Up next, Steve White, our friend from NFL Network. He
- 37:27Speaker 1: has some news about what John Schneider and Mike McDonald's
- 37:30Speaker 1: role may have been in choosing the new Seahawks owners.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Then you'll hear from NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, whether you
- 37:36Speaker 1: want to or not, about expansion in Seattle. An eleven
- 37:39Speaker 1: thirty the World Cup pregame show leading into England and Argentina.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Right here at noon on ninety three point three KJRFM,
- 38:07Speaker 1: Welcome back, Greg Bell, Jessmon McIntyre with you. Is they

- 38:20Speaker 2: Point roommate, and which amazing.
- 38:24Speaker 1: And I'm going to go to Detroit and see my
- 38:26Speaker 1: mom and twin sister and year old mom.
- 38:29Speaker 2: We have the captain holding your throne.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Mike Benton is going to come in tomorrow. He's going
- 38:34Speaker 1: to give you the NHL schedule, release, the crack and opener.
- 38:37Speaker 1: They'll announce that around ten am. Jessmin and Michael. Michael
- 38:41Speaker 1: have that for you live tomorrow on the show.
- 38:43Speaker 2: I like that you just combined our names.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Yes we did, Yes, Mac Benton.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Return of the Mac.
- 38:50Speaker 1: Indeed, Yes, indeed, yes, Indeed. The Seahawks rookies are reporting
- 38:56Speaker 1: to training camp in two days. The veterans are reporting
- 38:59Speaker 1: seven days after that, July twenty fourth, the team headquarters,
- 39:02Speaker 1: Virginia Mason Athletic Center, and then July twenty fifth, we'll
- 39:04Speaker 1: all be down there, the entire KG our family will
- 39:08Speaker 1: be down there broadcasting live from the first training camp
- 39:10Speaker 1: practice on July twenty fifth. We all know the Seahawks ownership.
- 39:14Speaker 1: The sale agreement on Saturday nine point six billion with
- 39:18Speaker 1: a B dollars, the second highest franchise sale in North
- 39:21Speaker 1: American sports history, carrying only the ten billion dollars to
- 39:24Speaker 1: the Lakers and is going to the Kosla family Venode
- 39:27Speaker 1: Nehru and their son Neil Kosla from the Bay Area
- 39:31Speaker 1: AI and Sun Microsystems fame. Steve White's great friend of
- 39:35Speaker 1: ours NFL network. He has some insight in eight comments
- 39:39Speaker 1: yesterday about what Mike McDonald, the coach and general manager
- 39:42Speaker 1: John Schneider's role in choosing these new owners may have been.
- 39:45Speaker 5: In Seattle, the estate of Paul g Allen announcing today, Yes,
- 39:48Speaker 5: the sale has been official.
- 39:50Speaker 1: This has been in the works for some time. As
- 39:52Speaker 1: we say hello to our own Steve why showing us
- 39:54Speaker 1: now in the newsroom.
- 39:55Speaker 5: We've had a few talks this offseason about changes for
- 39:57Speaker 5: the Super Bowl champions. This is as big of a
- 39:59Speaker 5: change you can get, so it's at the top.
- 40:01Speaker 6: Yeah, it is a big of a change. We knew
- 40:02Speaker 6: the ownership change was going to come down, and now
- 40:04Speaker 6: we see that Vinad and Niukosla part owners in the
- 40:09Speaker 6: forty nine ers have been selected to become the lead
- 40:13Speaker 6: owners for the Seattle Seahawks. They've got to get approved
- 40:15Speaker 6: by the majority of the NFL ownership. We know that
- 40:18Speaker 6: meeting is supposed to take place sometime before the start
- 40:21Speaker 6: of the season, probably in late August, and usually once
- 40:25Speaker 6: we get to this point, those ownership groups, once they've
- 40:27Speaker 6: been vetted by all the other owners it's a mere
- 40:30Speaker 6: formality when it comes down to that date. Well, let's
- 40:32Speaker 6: talk about how this in the meantime, how this goes about.
- 40:34Speaker 1: Operationally for the Seahawks.
- 40:36Speaker 6: Typically when this happens, they're still able to get deals done, right,
- 40:39Speaker 6: they want to get the Devin Wetherspoon contract done.
- 40:41Speaker 1: That's something they could still get done.
- 40:43Speaker 6: We know head coach Mike McDonald John Schneider, they both
- 40:46Speaker 6: have signed contract extensions. Well, Mike McDonald will he signed
- 40:49Speaker 6: signed a six year contract two years ago. John Sneider
- 40:52Speaker 6: signed a five year extension a couple of years ago
- 40:54Speaker 6: that takes him through twenty thirty one. They're still going
- 40:56Speaker 6: to be around. In fact, Mike, I know that they
- 40:59Speaker 6: were part of the process in interviewing, so to speak,
- 41:02Speaker 6: some of the ownership groups when they came through the
- 41:04Speaker 6: Seahawks facility in the mini camp era of the summer.
- 41:08Speaker 6: So they were feeling out the ownership groups. The ownship
- 41:10Speaker 6: groups are feeling out them. But the leadership of the
- 41:12Speaker 6: Seahawks is very well in place and that include some
- 41:15Speaker 6: of the player transactions that we're expecting.
- 41:19Speaker 7: Back in twenty twenty two, the Broncos are purchased for
- 41:22Speaker 7: four point sixty five billion.
- 41:25Speaker 1: What a bargain.
- 41:26Speaker 7: Yeah, look, I do think that this number was elevated
- 41:30Speaker 7: by the Lakers purchase, which was ten billion, and it
- 41:33Speaker 7: was like, whoa wait a minute, where did that number
- 41:35Speaker 7: come from? Because at the time NFL teams had been
- 41:37Speaker 7: what four to six billion?
- 41:39Speaker 1: I mean, even the.
- 41:40Speaker 7: Commanders now looks like a great bargain as well.
- 41:44Speaker 4: Pretty incredible.
- 41:45Speaker 7: You know why you and I should have been in
- 41:46Speaker 7: on some of these purchases. We could have stretched a
- 41:48Speaker 7: couple of nickels together here. But you did talk about
- 41:51Speaker 7: you said a couple of things one selected two that
- 41:55Speaker 7: the koslav family went through the facility, talked to the
- 41:59Speaker 7: principles involved with in communication with the league. In fact,
- 42:01Speaker 7: the memo that we the Insiders obtained the other day
- 42:05Speaker 7: during the sale process, during the announcement of the sale
- 42:08Speaker 7: process said the estate of Paul Allen agreed to sell
- 42:12Speaker 7: the Sea arcs of the Cola family and several limited partners.
- 42:15Speaker 1: They reported very.
- 42:16Speaker 7: Robust interest in the club throughout the process with the
- 42:18Speaker 7: Colost group emerging as the club preferred buyer among multiple,
- 42:23Speaker 7: multiple qualified bidders. So as much as I'm talking about
- 42:26Speaker 7: the money here, that.
- 42:28Speaker 1: Was Mike gar Foule at the end, and he made
- 42:30Speaker 1: it It's funny. He made it sound like he had
- 42:31Speaker 1: proprietary information. We all got the we all got the
- 42:35Speaker 1: NFL memo to all thirty one other team. But this
- 42:39Speaker 1: point was that there are other bidders and we know
- 42:41Speaker 1: that too. But Steve Wich's point, what wanted you to
- 42:45Speaker 1: hear was that Mike McDonald the coach and general manager
- 42:48Speaker 1: John Schnyder were involved. And you heard Mike Garfola say
- 42:51Speaker 1: that the Cosla family of Veno Cosla, and he pronounces
- 42:54Speaker 1: a Cosla. I've heard on podcasts that Venota has been
- 42:57Speaker 1: on that he says costless. Yes, that's why I'm anouncing
- 43:02Speaker 1: it that way with long.
- 43:04Speaker 4: Oh.
- 43:04Speaker 2: When we meet them, we can, yeah, we can ask
- 43:06Speaker 2: them that. I always liked that clarification.
- 43:08Speaker 1: But they said, they said, you heard him say. Well,
- 43:11Speaker 1: they toured the facility in retrospect that day that there
- 43:15Speaker 1: were about nineteen SUVs and escalades at the front of
- 43:20Speaker 1: the building during mini camp. It was the second of
- 43:22Speaker 1: the three days of the mini camp and they were
- 43:25Speaker 1: trying to tell us at all it was advertising meetings,
- 43:27Speaker 1: and we knew that it was one of the potential
- 43:29Speaker 1: owners and it may have been them, but it was
- 43:31Speaker 1: one of the potential ownership groups that came through during
- 43:33Speaker 1: the mini camp to see the operation as it was
- 43:36Speaker 1: happening football wise on the field.
- 43:38Speaker 3: And there was also rumors because Zuckerberg's yacht was right here.
- 43:43Speaker 2: I'm just saying it was.
- 43:45Speaker 1: Rumors, but but yeah, we saw a phelanx of Amada
- 43:49Speaker 1: of a black SUVs and a bunch of dudes in
- 43:51Speaker 1: suits and earpieces walking around looking important, trying to keep
- 43:55Speaker 1: us all in the media room like kids in a
- 43:57Speaker 1: kindergarten room. It was. It was pretty funny.
- 43:59Speaker 2: Actually, did you get Matt's in lunchtime?
- 44:02Speaker 3: It was.
- 44:04Speaker 1: Cartonum chocolate milk and go sit down. Yeah, that was
- 44:07Speaker 1: how I was. But yeah, Steve White's saying that John
- 44:10Speaker 1: Schneider and Mike McDonald were vetting the ownership groups as well,
- 44:13Speaker 1: and that makes sense that they were able to first
- 44:16Speaker 1: hand see how they were going to work with now
- 44:18Speaker 1: their new bosses, their new owners. Of course, Mike McDonald
- 44:21Speaker 1: not directly involved as much as John Schneider will be
- 44:25Speaker 1: John Schneider will be the point man for the new
- 44:26Speaker 1: ownership group for the football side of it. Although Mike
- 44:29Speaker 1: McDonald said that Jody Allen would have weekly meetings with
- 44:32Speaker 1: him after games a day after games and would talk
- 44:34Speaker 1: to him about the games. We wonder if that will continue.
- 44:38Speaker 1: One of the many, many unknowns that we have is
- 44:40Speaker 1: how involved these new owners will be in the football
- 44:43Speaker 1: side of it. And you pay nine point six billion dollars,
- 44:46Speaker 1: you're going to change something. But again, they would be
- 44:48Speaker 1: unwise to change anything in the football of a Super
- 44:50Speaker 1: Bowl champions team. Up next on kJ R Adam Silver.
- 44:56Speaker 1: He's becoming a bad name around here for every time
- 44:59Speaker 1: he talks nothing happen. He talked yesterday in Las Vegas
- 45:02Speaker 1: about where the process is with the NBA and the
- 45:05Speaker 1: expansion of teams to Las Vegas and to Seattle. You'll
- 45:09Speaker 1: hear from Adam Silver. Next, we'll read back your text
- 45:11Speaker 1: if you have any talkbacks in the talkback Live red
- 45:13Speaker 1: button will play those back. And then at eleven thirty
- 45:16Speaker 1: the World Cup pregame show leading into Argentina and England.
- 45:19Speaker 1: All of it right here on ninety three point three
- 45:21Speaker 1: KJRFM Welcome back to an abbreviated portion of the Greg
- 45:42Speaker 1: Bell Show with Jessman McIntyre. We are awaiting the World
- 45:46Speaker 1: Cup pregame at eleven thirty the iHeart National Radio pregame show,
- 45:50Speaker 1: and then that lead right to twelve noon kickoff from Atlanta,
- 45:54Speaker 1: England against Argentina in the World Cup Semifinal. The winner
- 45:57Speaker 1: will play Spain in the World Cup Final on Sunday.
- 45:59Speaker 1: In the middle, all World Cup matches from here on
- 46:02Speaker 1: out live on ninety three point three KJRFM, including the
- 46:05Speaker 1: third place match between France, who lost to Spain yesterday,
- 46:09Speaker 1: and the loser of today's Argentina England match. That third
- 46:12Speaker 1: place match will be in Miami on Saturday here on
- 46:14Speaker 1: ninety three point three KJR. Yesterday, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver
- 46:20Speaker 1: spoke in Las Vegas during the league's summer league for
- 46:24Speaker 1: younger players. There was time that we thought that might
- 46:27Speaker 1: be the place that they voted on expansion, but that
- 46:31Speaker 1: was not the case. There were no votes yesterday, there
- 46:33Speaker 1: were no votes this week in league meetings down there
- 46:35Speaker 1: in Las Vegas. There have been multiple reports that Las
- 46:39Speaker 1: Vegas has as many as four competing bids, some playing
- 46:43Speaker 1: in the t Mobile Arena, that the Golden Knights play in,
- 46:46Speaker 1: one of the bids being from the Golden Knights owner
- 46:49Speaker 1: that is also a West Point graduate, but that there
- 46:52Speaker 1: is a crowded field it appears forming there not so
- 46:56Speaker 1: in Seattle, we've only heard of the One roof Sports
- 46:59Speaker 1: Entertainment throwing their hat in the ring with Samantha Halloway
- 47:02Speaker 1: and gaining Melinda French Gates as a co investor in
- 47:05Speaker 1: One roof Sports Entertainment, the owner of the Kraken now
- 47:08Speaker 1: the owner of Climate Pledge Arena, the owner of the
- 47:11Speaker 1: arena that exists that was ready for an NBA team
- 47:13Speaker 1: that has built NBA specifications, but not words of multiple
- 47:17Speaker 1: bids in Seattle or multiple bidders that would drive up
- 47:20Speaker 1: the price.
- 47:21Speaker 3: Well.
- 47:21Speaker 1: Adam Silver had comments about that yesterday.
- 47:24Speaker 8: Most of the groups that are interested have not been public,
- 47:27Speaker 8: and that's any group that's chosen to be public is
- 47:32Speaker 8: their decision. And so I wouldn't conclude that because there
- 47:38Speaker 8: isn't other public there aren't other public groups coming forward
- 47:42Speaker 8: that therefore there isn't other interest In Seattle, there is,
- 47:46Speaker 8: and I would also say same in Las Vegas. Some
- 47:48Speaker 8: groups have been public. The majority of groups have not
- 47:51Speaker 8: been public, so stop there on that portion. In terms
- 47:57Speaker 8: of the process. Over the last two days, there were
- 48:01Speaker 8: discussions both the committee level and before the board from
- 48:06Speaker 8: Paul Taubman, our outside banker, about how the process is going,
- 48:10Speaker 8: what he's hearing from the groups. As I said earlier,
- 48:13Speaker 8: it's you know, price is one component, but I think
- 48:17Speaker 8: there was as much interest as in who the groups
- 48:20Speaker 8: would be, what the overall composition of ownership, and of
- 48:23Speaker 8: course where they would play. And I'm still hopeful again
- 48:27Speaker 8: that this process would be wrapped up by year end,
- 48:31Speaker 8: and I feel we're very much on track.
- 48:34Speaker 1: That's NBA Commissioner Adam Silver yesterday in Las Vegas from
- 48:37Speaker 1: the NBA Summer League. So what's the news there. One
- 48:39Speaker 1: is that they're talking to the league's banker that's going
- 48:41Speaker 1: to assess these ownership groups for the two new expansion
- 48:45Speaker 1: teams in Las Vegas and Seattle.
- 48:47Speaker 4: Two.
- 48:49Speaker 1: It's gone from we're going to have it done by
- 48:50Speaker 1: the It seems to me it's gone from we're gonna
- 48:52Speaker 1: have it done by the end of the year to.
- 48:54Speaker 2: This year, next year, next year.
- 48:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and then Adam Silver saying I am hopeful it'll
- 49:00Speaker 1: be done by year end, and he also said there
- 49:03Speaker 1: are multiple bidders we haven't heard about in Seattle. Now.
- 49:07Speaker 1: It is in the league's best interest for the perception
- 49:09Speaker 1: to be that, so there can be bidders that join
- 49:11Speaker 1: and drive up the price. If you have one bidder,
- 49:13Speaker 1: you're not going to have a higher price as you
- 49:14Speaker 1: do as two or three. We just saw that with
- 49:16Speaker 1: the Seahawks. Let's the Seahawks had three bidders settled on
- 49:19Speaker 1: at final.
- 49:20Speaker 2: Two finalists, and those are the ones we know.
- 49:22Speaker 1: And those are the ones we know of, and then
- 49:24Speaker 1: we drove up the price to the point of nine
- 49:26Speaker 1: point six billion dollars. So multiple bidders is a good
- 49:29Speaker 1: thing for the league and then all the league's owners
- 49:31Speaker 1: and all the team valuations. So of course he wants
- 49:33Speaker 1: us to think, and I'm not saying there aren't, but
- 49:36Speaker 1: have we not reached the point here in Seattle of
- 49:39Speaker 1: looking at Adam Silver and going can we believe what
- 49:41Speaker 1: you're saying? I mean, can we get on with this already?
- 49:44Speaker 1: You're talking about kicking the can down the road. Either
- 49:47Speaker 1: you're expanding or not. The last time the NBA expanded
- 49:50Speaker 1: to get Charlotte Backett's team at had lost not quite
- 49:53Speaker 1: the same situation as Seattle, but similar. That was a
- 49:56Speaker 1: two year ramp up of the time they awarded the
- 50:00Speaker 1: expansion franchise to Charlotte twenty two years ago. I think
- 50:03Speaker 1: now two years from the time they award the franchise
- 50:06Speaker 1: till they began playing ball in the air in Charlotte.
- 50:10Speaker 1: That was with a new arena being built downtown. In
- 50:12Speaker 1: all of it, we already had the new arena here
- 50:13Speaker 1: in Seattle. We already have an investment group here in Seattle.
- 50:15Speaker 1: We already have a arena that was remodeled and redone
- 50:18Speaker 1: two NBA specifications by the Oakview Group. What do we
- 50:23Speaker 1: wait not? Let's go. I mean, this has been on
- 50:27Speaker 1: long enough, and this fall October would be two years
- 50:31Speaker 1: run up to a start of an NBA return to
- 50:34Speaker 1: Seattle year's end. Any months past October will be shortening
- 50:39Speaker 1: that two year run up. Let's go. I mean, I
- 50:43Speaker 1: think it's not hard to speak for the Seattle sports
- 50:45Speaker 1: fan and the Seattle basketball fan here about this. Yeah,
- 50:49Speaker 1: every time Adam Silver's name comes up, it's like wake
- 50:52Speaker 1: me up when the team is here. And there are
- 50:54Speaker 1: some people here in Seattle, in the Pacific Northwest who
- 50:57Speaker 1: won't believe the Sonics are returning until the ball has
- 50:59Speaker 1: Actually we'd gone in the air for the opening tip
- 51:01Speaker 1: off in October twenty twenty.
- 51:03Speaker 2: Eight, And now I'm with them.
- 51:04Speaker 1: I get it.
- 51:04Speaker 2: Yeah, we.
- 51:07Speaker 1: You and I lived here through that in two thousand
- 51:09Speaker 1: and eight.
- 51:10Speaker 2: I came here right after I covered that.
- 51:13Speaker 1: Trial at the Federal Courthouse down on Eighth and Olive.
- 51:15Speaker 2: I moved out here in two thousand and nine.
- 51:17Speaker 1: So, yeah, that was a they were going to win
- 51:19Speaker 1: that trial. Yes, they were going to stay in Seattle,
- 51:22Speaker 1: and the thought was that that would buy the time
- 51:24Speaker 1: for the two years remaining on the lease to find
- 51:26Speaker 1: a Seattle buyer. But the city took a check from
- 51:30Speaker 1: Clay Bennett in a one time payment to get out
- 51:32Speaker 1: of the lease and move him to Oklahoma. That's what
- 51:34Speaker 1: happened for those of you who just might have joined
- 51:37Speaker 1: and moved to Seattle since then. But they were going
- 51:40Speaker 1: to win that case, and had they won that case,
- 51:42Speaker 1: there are many people here in the Northwest who still
- 51:43Speaker 1: believed we would have found a local owner to keep
- 51:46Speaker 1: them here.
- 51:46Speaker 2: Wasn't it only forty million dollars forty.
- 51:48Speaker 1: Five million dollars, which is pittance these days for franchise valuations.
- 51:53Speaker 1: But the city in the mayor's office wanted to check
- 51:58Speaker 1: to cover the debt of Seattle Center, and that check
- 52:01Speaker 1: paid off the debt. What a short sighted decision that was, obviously.
- 52:06Speaker 1: But let's go back to Howard Schultz selling get to
- 52:08Speaker 1: Clayton Benefoah, yeah, there was that. That was the whole deal,
- 52:11Speaker 1: that little guy. And let's go back to Howard Schultz
- 52:14Speaker 1: parading NBA Commissioner David Stern down to Olympia and Frank
- 52:19Speaker 1: Chop and everybody lip is saying, get the hell out
- 52:21Speaker 1: of here. You're not getting any public money from us.
- 52:24Speaker 1: You guys are billionaires. And David Stern got pissed and said, okay,
- 52:28Speaker 1: I'll show you Seattle. I'll move your team to Oklahoma.
- 52:30Speaker 2: He definitely had something. There was a grudge. There was
- 52:34Speaker 2: a grudge anyway.
- 52:37Speaker 1: I get why people say let's not hear from Adam
- 52:39Speaker 1: Silver until the ball is in the air. But I
- 52:42Speaker 1: just want to bring you the latest on what he
- 52:43Speaker 1: had to say. Four nine, four to five one on
- 52:45Speaker 1: the Koma doadge text line. Your thoughts on this, I
- 52:47Speaker 1: have a feelure I hope they are poor. Your thoughts
- 52:50Speaker 1: on the Seattle new ownership group of the Seahawks and
- 52:53Speaker 1: putting grass and lum and field. That's the subject we
- 52:56Speaker 1: brought up earlier.
- 52:57Speaker 3: One that more people than I would have perceived are
- 53:01Speaker 3: actually interestition.
- 53:02Speaker 1: Because Jessman's point's a good one. Does this really affect us?
- 53:05Speaker 1: We're not playing on it or I get tackled on it.
- 53:07Speaker 1: But people do care, they do, they do actually. Two
- 53:11Speaker 1: five three says grass, grass, grass, with four exclamation points
- 53:15Speaker 1: in all capital letters. Lifelong baseball fan, nothing better.
- 53:20Speaker 2: I mean, I love that baseball could ever be terf
- 53:24Speaker 2: We know.
- 53:24Speaker 1: That well, yes, though it is in some cities.
- 53:27Speaker 2: Yeah, but it in my mind it can never. But yeah,
- 53:31Speaker 2: I mean.
- 53:32Speaker 3: And then another two five sory saying that players want
- 53:35Speaker 3: grass for safety issues. That makes a ton of sense,
- 53:38Speaker 3: but from a fan perspective, is the question you asked?
- 53:42Speaker 1: Yeah, it's from our friend. Two five three says players
- 53:45Speaker 1: want grass and it's a safety issue. It should be
- 53:47Speaker 1: addressed over profit. Deah four two five I've been landscaping
- 53:53Speaker 1: for thirty five I've been in landscaping for thirty one years.
- 53:56Speaker 1: Look out the window in December, what does your grass
- 53:58Speaker 1: look like? It would be extremely difficult, Yes, it would
- 54:02Speaker 1: be but not impossible. They have grass in Chicago, they
- 54:05Speaker 1: have grass in Cleveland. They have grass in Cincinnati and
- 54:07Speaker 1: Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. Those cities are even colder and worse
- 54:12Speaker 1: in the winter than this place. We're talking fruit, snow, ice, mud, rain,
- 54:18Speaker 1: not much sun. And they have grass why because their
- 54:21Speaker 1: owners pay for it. Their owners put in new grass
- 54:24Speaker 1: fields during the season. Yeah, I don't. I look out
- 54:26Speaker 1: of my backyard in December and it's brown. But I'm
- 54:28Speaker 1: not going to hire somebody to go put a whole
- 54:30Speaker 1: new grass in December. That's what the NFL teams do.
- 54:32Speaker 2: I was gonna say, we're not the NFL exactly.
- 54:35Speaker 1: That's my point, yeah, is that they have the money
- 54:38Speaker 1: to do it. Billionaires are billionaires and state billionaires by
- 54:42Speaker 1: keeping their billions, And that is in a nutshell, why
- 54:46Speaker 1: teams don't have grass fields. They could Mark Davis or
- 54:50Speaker 1: the Raiders has it in an indoor of building in
- 54:52Speaker 1: Las vent in the middle of the freaking desert. To
- 54:55Speaker 1: paraphrase Ocean's eleven Elliott Gould do it in a desert.
- 55:00Speaker 1: They do it indoors in Atlanta and Dallas for the
- 55:03Speaker 1: World Cup. They could do it in Seattle. It wouldn't
- 55:06Speaker 1: be easy, it would be expensive. It would take out
- 55:08Speaker 1: of some of the bottom line of the new owners.
- 55:10Speaker 1: But again, if you want to have an immediate impact
- 55:13Speaker 1: and change, you could, as new owners decide we're going
- 55:16Speaker 1: to pay that money and put in grass. The NFL
- 55:19Speaker 1: Players Association has been yelling about this all summer about
- 55:22Speaker 1: how how all these NFL stadiums suddenly have grass for
- 55:25Speaker 1: the World Cup, yet can have grass for our players
- 55:27Speaker 1: to play on.
- 55:29Speaker 2: Well, the World Cup is the one time event.
- 55:32Speaker 1: Right, But the point is it's physically.
- 55:34Speaker 2: Possible to It's physically possible, and it.
- 55:36Speaker 1: Costs money, and those cities paid for that money, and
- 55:39Speaker 1: FIFA demanded it, and so it was. The NFL has
- 55:43Speaker 1: not demanded it. And my point is, if they really
- 55:46Speaker 1: want to make it an issue of player safety for
- 55:48Speaker 1: the union, go to the collective bargaining table and do
- 55:51Speaker 1: it and say we're not signing this new CBA until
- 55:53Speaker 1: we get grass fields on all cities, all places. They
- 55:57Speaker 1: could do it indoors, they do it. They do it
- 55:59Speaker 1: in a Vegas.
- 56:02Speaker 3: They do They figure it out if we want to
- 56:05Speaker 3: change subjects. There are a couple reactions four to two five.
- 56:11Speaker 3: I'm guessing Adam Silver either doesn't have votes for expansion
- 56:15Speaker 3: or the Vegas expansion is holding this whole thing up,
- 56:17Speaker 3: which is also an opinion I agree with.
- 56:19Speaker 2: I think it's Vegas not us.
- 56:21Speaker 1: And talked about that last week.
- 56:22Speaker 3: Yes, that's one hundred thanks, that's but for now, I'll
- 56:26Speaker 3: root for the Seahawks, Mariners, Cracking, and Sounders. I'll enjoy
- 56:29Speaker 3: what I have and not worry about what I don't.
- 56:32Speaker 1: Wake me when the announcement is official, he says, She
- 56:35Speaker 1: says the four. That's pretty much. Yeah, I hear you. Yeah,
- 56:39Speaker 1: Fortune five. Yeah, I love billionaires lecturing us on climate
- 56:42Speaker 1: chains while riding around in mega yacht's, private jets and
- 56:45Speaker 1: fleets of bohemoth SUVs with tinted windows.
- 56:49Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a thing. That is the thing that you
- 56:53Speaker 3: have every right to say. Two oh six, same ish,
- 56:56Speaker 3: different day on the NBA. Good riddance, the second biggest
- 57:00Speaker 3: popping league in the world. Still haven't bought a Starbucks coffee?
- 57:04Speaker 3: Why would you spend ten dollars on a cup of joe?
- 57:07Speaker 3: It's Seattle football, crack and hockey, and M's baseball until
- 57:10Speaker 3: training camp opens.
- 57:11Speaker 2: Hashtag Gohawks there.
- 57:13Speaker 1: I know a lot of people anecdotally in this town
- 57:16Speaker 1: who still will not buy Starbucks because of what Howard Schultez.
- 57:19Speaker 3: I think one of our biggest people personality wise in
- 57:23Speaker 3: this building is one of them.
- 57:25Speaker 4: M hm.
- 57:26Speaker 3: I actually get scared when I go get myself a
- 57:31Speaker 3: cup of Joe with that logo on it, so I
- 57:33Speaker 3: have to pour it in my own canister before I
- 57:37Speaker 3: walk in.
- 57:38Speaker 4: Four.
- 57:38Speaker 1: Two five says in and of itself, I don't care
- 57:40Speaker 1: about grass or no grass, but I do care about
- 57:42Speaker 1: the Seahawks and the players injuries, So if grass is
- 57:45Speaker 1: better for them, then we should have grass.
- 57:47Speaker 2: Honestly, that's the best take, the best take.
- 57:50Speaker 1: The NFL tries to come out and say that there
- 57:52Speaker 1: are no increased risks for injury on turfin on grass.
- 57:57Speaker 1: They have statistics that say that. The players union have
- 57:59Speaker 1: statistics that shut that the players' bodies will tell them.
- 58:03Speaker 1: It is much much better to recover from games after
- 58:05Speaker 1: having played on grass than on turf. That's a bona
- 58:09Speaker 1: fide fact. And I talk to players all the time
- 58:11Speaker 1: about that grass. Please. Two six says, I love bad
- 58:14Speaker 1: weather games on grass. When the uniforms get somebody, you
- 58:16Speaker 1: can't read the numbers anymore. It's closer to the kind
- 58:19Speaker 1: of game as we played with kids in the park. True,
- 58:22Speaker 1: it is exactly the opposite the kind of game the
- 58:24Speaker 1: NFL is pushed for, with passing and points and protecting
- 58:28Speaker 1: quarterbacks and all of that. It's not that when it's
- 58:32Speaker 1: a quagmire and the muddy field. I grew up playing
- 58:35Speaker 1: on grass. I played on mud and Ohio And yeah,
- 58:40Speaker 1: you want.
- 58:40Speaker 2: To hear a funny fun fact.
- 58:42Speaker 3: I found out after playing soccer and running around and
- 58:45Speaker 3: everything rolling down hills when I was little. I found
- 58:48Speaker 3: out when I was in my twenties that I was
- 58:50Speaker 3: allergic to grass. And I just thought that I was itchy.
- 58:56Speaker 3: Just fight through it, surge for less than as a kid. Yeah,
- 59:01Speaker 3: three different kinds too. It was not just a geographical thing.
- 59:05Speaker 1: Two six says yes to real grass and all caps.
- 59:09Speaker 1: I can't believe football players have to play on some
- 59:11Speaker 1: combination of concrete, plastic and rubber. Brutal, stupid and every
- 59:16Speaker 1: owner is a billionaire. Number two. The World Cup I
- 59:20Speaker 1: very much enjoyed, other than the flopping and drawing of penalties,
- 59:23Speaker 1: rooting for Spain versus England in the final. Now that
- 59:25Speaker 1: all the underdogs are gone, Argentina MESSI no way, I
- 59:28Speaker 1: can't stand. I'm sick of the messy hype. You're my
- 59:30Speaker 1: favorite show on kJ R. Thank you appreciate that.
- 59:34Speaker 2: Oh yay, we have a favorite.
- 59:37Speaker 1: Knowledgeable, real and humble.
- 59:39Speaker 2: Thanks well, that actually describes you to I don't know.
- 59:42Speaker 1: Some people have other opinions about that.
- 59:44Speaker 2: Begin everyone has an opinion, just like but.
- 59:48Speaker 3: Question for you Greg and Jesseman, what is the outlook
- 59:51Speaker 3: for Army football this year?
- 59:53Speaker 2: My dad was Army and I follow Army now that he.
- 59:55Speaker 3: Has passed, are you going to do a college football segment?
- 59:58Speaker 2: Since it's around.
- 59:59Speaker 1: The corner we are. That's our US coast Guard and
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: odab buddy, thank you for that. Army's got their quarterback
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: coming back, Kale Homes. They've got about I think it's
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: nine or ten experienced starters, about half their starts, eleven
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: of the twenty two. In these days, that's pretty good.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: Because of transfer portals. Now we know that the Service
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: academies transfer portals are a different deal. It is damn
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: near impossible to leave the service academy and once you
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: sit for your first academic class of your junior year,
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: after that time you owe service time back to the Army.
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: If you leave West Point. They actually the first academic
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: day of the junior year adjument. We all sit in
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: the mess hall for lunch, and we've already sat for
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: our classes, and the seniors raise a glass of lemonade
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: or water and say welcome to the Army, to the
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: junior class because they're now committed to serving.
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: Because they're committed.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: Yes, but you can lead before your first class of
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: your first academic day of your junior year. And that's
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: when some Army players have left, and some by il
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: and transferport and now the Army, Navy, Air Force are
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: not in the business generally of bringing in transfers from
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: other schools because you have to start back on day
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: one of Plebe year. You can't come in as a
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: fifty year senior from Georgia and play for Army. They're
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: going to put you back at the front of the
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: back of the line with the Plebes and start the
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: four year, four class system, and you'd be ended up.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: That's just not going to happen. There's no blue chip
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: player that's going to transfer into a service academy and
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: start over as a freshman, especially not getting yelled at
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: and be sparicks. So no thanks for the question. Armies.
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: They're in the American Association, the American Athletic Conference, I
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: should say Memphis and South Florida. A good friend of mine,
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: doctor Ed Scott, the athletic director at Memphis, already talking
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: about they're going to be Army this year and all that.
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: But yeah, we'll be at Army Navy in the on
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: the second Saturday of December. In the second Friday of December,
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: we will be in Times Square Adjustment and I will
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: be in Times Square to broadcast live from Army Navy's
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: radio row. Thanks to US ninety three point three KJR,
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: we'll have that live show, which.
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: Is going to be It's the best thing is it
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: was before I worked here that I got to work
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: with you.
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: Yes, that was awesome.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Yes. Remember Coming up is the World Cup Semifinals, the
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: second one England and Argentina. That's a twelve noon kickoff,
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: eleven thirty pre game show right here on ninety three
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: point three KJRFM. All remaining World Cup games are on
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: your radio on ninety three point three, including the third
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: place game between the two losers of the semifinals, France
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: and the loser of today's Argentina England game will play
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: Saturday in the third place game in Miami. Today's games
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: in Atlanta. Again, that's a indoor facility air condition that
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: has grass for the World Cup. We'll see if it
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: was yes yesterday. The same thing in Dallas. The same
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: thing with the grass. So it is possible to put
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: the grass in. I know where the grass starts to die,
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: but it is possible. It's the Fox News Round.
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: Of and now it's time for the World Cup.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: We'll go in the World Cup Pregame Show, the iHeart
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: National Pregame Show, Anderson Hurst with our coverage. As you've
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: been doing a fantastic job all tournament. Up next England
