[upbeat music] Hey, everybody. It's Full Spectrum Cycling. This is show number 190...
• 0:17
  185. 85. 85. 185- Ah... on your motherfucking ass. Ass. [laughs] Is that a, is that a code for something? That's, uh, that... I, I- 1-... smell a snoop. 1-8- There's a s- 187? Calvin, Calvin Brooks.
• 0:31
[laughs] 185 must be just harassing cops, not necessarily- [laughs] Killing them... to- totally [laughs] I don't know. They're not into music. Like, it's giving dirty looks- TikTok dirty looks... as they drive by.
• 0:40
[laughs] And saying like, "Narc." All righty, all righty. It's, uh, yeah, so 185. I don't know. It's coming up on, on middle of October already.
• 0:49
See, this is where I'm trying to go when we say the number, and I'm like, yes, I wanna try to, yeah, find out... And that happened. Yeah. Yeah, sorry. [laughs] No. No, no. You're reinforcing- No, I'm just-...
• 1:00
my point after 180- I'm apologizing to whoever your guest is in two episodes Yeah. Yeah. Sorry, dude. More like, sorry Chewy or whoever- Yeah. [laughs]... is the one guest we have.
• 1:08
[laughs] So today in the studio we've got JK. Hello, hello. With his, uh, de Creusen shirt on, nice. Yep. Old school, Cheap Trick.
• 1:15
We got Tony with his MSC glow-in-the-dark alien shirt, which that freaked me out last night 'cause I happened to fall asleep and was in bed with it.
• 1:22
I went to the bathroom, turned the light off, I'm like, "What the fuck is that?" That's Tony? Tony? [laughs] Tony, Tony, why am I running away from the mirror? I saw it, I saw it against your shirt. I'm like- Nice...
• 1:30
so yeah, it really does glow in the dark. Yes, it does. Very quickly too, I like it. Yeah. Fast charge. Yeah, fast charge. And it lasts for a good amount of years, 'cause I... it's the same- As the Von Munns...
• 1:40
what have you as the Von Munns fan club that I still have that just is kind of like a, kinda janky tooth glow in the dark at this point. And- If it glows in the dark, [laughs] it's funny, it's pretty fun.
• 1:50
And speaking of WMSC- Hello... [laughs] we've got Billy from WMSC and other places, but F- Faux Eyes is your- Yeah... one of your n- one of your radio DJ names. Yep. Mondays from noon to 3:00? 12:30 till 3:00. 12:30.
• 2:06
We got- 12:30 till 3:00, okay. Yeah, there's, uh, what do you... They do like a live show- Uh, K... Yeah, K-... on KFMF. KXP KXP. K- K- KXP, yeah, yeah. So 12:30 to 3:00 Mondays you can catch him on the WMSC 91.7.
• 2:20
And- Stream the shit out of that stuff, 'cause- 2 to 3:00 is what? The Jamdemic. The Jamdemic. [laughs] Oh, it changed names. We... Ah, it was a pandemic thing. Yeah. Yeah, no, it- And we decided- Great...
• 2:32
but you know what? But it's a great hour. There's gonna be- It is a fantastic hour. I've been... We're gonna do, um, an Island Jamdemic. Uh-huh.
• 2:39
And then we're g- [laughs] we did the Slow Jamdemic, and we're probably gonna do some more, uh- [laughs] Yeah, started off with SOS. [singing] Tell me that you still care. Um- Like an hours couple skate?
• 2:53
Yeah, totally, dude. It was- [laughs] Does the dude skate backwards or does, does- Dude... the woman skate backwards? [laughs] Yeah. Skate- Skateland, baby. [laughs] Or whatever. Wisconsin Skate University.
• 3:04
I was, I was, yeah, WSU, baby. Yep. That's where I was. [laughs] Well, uh, I don't even know where to go with this because, uh- Oh, we're a rambling train. Come on, man... Billy, Billy's got lots of stuff going on.
• 3:14
And, uh, w- some of it's bike oriented, some of it's radio oriented, some of it's record oriented. Yeah. Um- And all of it can be- I know... accessed by bike. I think if m- I don't know if we did this three years ago.
• 3:24
Oh. Maybe we could just go to the s- show three years ago and, and get the, the lowdown, but- It, like we should have done our homework and- Stuff has probably changed since then, so you wanna just- [laughs] Oh, yeah.
• 3:33
Has anything happened differently in the past three years, Bill? [laughs] So, so what are you up to? Shit. [laughs] What's, what's, what's floating your boat?
• 3:39
All right, um- What's, uh- I think the reason you guys invited me here was to, uh, talk about Biketoberfest, which- All right...
• 3:46
uh, that's our rolling party that we do, had done every year, and this is the first year back after three years absence. And, um- Right... I'm kinda- What's, what's the route?... I'm kinda excited.
• 3:59
[laughs] Where's the next stop? Had to get that in early. Had to get that in early. Where's the next stop? You'll find out when you get there. You know what? That was a refined process because- Oh, man. It's-...
• 4:07
I, I do it... going on. It's, it's kind of a, I... Okay, it's a dictatorship kinda thing. [laughs] I, I feel you. But, but like you- Fucking beautiful... w- when we used to, when we used to post, uh, it, it...
• 4:18
this, if you're not familiar, it's a bicycle pub crawl, but it's heavier on the fun than the drinking is, well, what I try to represent. But, um, it doesn't always work out like that.
• 4:31
So we go from bar to bar and there's... try and take the, the least, uh, car trafficked routes possible, the most interesting, just from like alley cat riding- Yeah, yeah... and checking stuff out. Yeah, yeah, for sure.
• 4:45
Awesome. You know? And, and taking cut-throughs. And, and this one, you know, after the pandemic, I'm just like, uh, so all the little bells and whistles of all the past rides are in this one.
• 4:56
It's kinda like a greatest hits party. But, uh- Speaking of greatest hits, was that the last one that we were on that you hit the curb, Tony? Yeah. [laughs] Yeah.
• 5:03
We were coming out of whatever that, that, uh- Way on the south side. We were crossing over- What was that, Hogwarts bar? What was that thing called? Yeah. Where? Wasn't it?
• 5:10
It was- The, the great big bar, that newer place... it was... It was, yeah, right on Packard and the lake. I don't know why- It was some kind of-... everyone was going around and I had to- The game, the gamer bar...
• 5:17
go straight at it and went straight over. Yeah, Harry Potter theme or something. What was the theme? The game, the gamers bar. Oh, oh, oh. Yeah, level 42 something. Level 42? Yeah. But it was before that. Yeah. Yeah.
• 5:26
Or whatever, like that, whatever that was. That's all been- It's been like eight things since then...
• 5:29
that whole area though, there's, it, there's really nice, uh, there's tons of expansive room to ride off road without- Yeah... fucking with anything. There's giant sidewalks. It's a really nice thoroughfare for cycling.
• 5:43
And, and, uh, it's a, it's a good cut-through to get from Milwaukee, St. Francis to Cudahy and, or, or back from. So- Pr- Provided you see the curb that you- Yeah. Well, yeah, yeah. Yeah, there's a couple. The...
• 5:56
I was, there's a part of the route this year I was [laughs] riding and, um- I was heading into the... I was coming from behind the sun, and I'm riding through this pretty rural landscape, and- [laughs]...
• 6:11
I see this kinda... I'm, like, thinking to myself, "Man, that lady keeps herself in great shape."
• 6:17
[laughs] And, uh, 'cause it was a silhouette, and it turns out it was my buddy Glenn, who has just let his hair grow really long [laughs] [laughs]... over the last couple of years. And this lithe...
• 6:30
And he was walking his dog, and we were just like, "What are you doing here? What are you doing here?" And, uh, then five deer rolled up on us. Nice. So there's all sorts of...
• 6:38
I, I'm hoping that we can see some deer at a distance, but not on the trail. And, um, yeah, there's... It's a dance party edition too. Yeah, I like that. So it's gonna be music kinda oriented, so I'm- Awesome...
• 6:53
I'm pretty... Yeah, I'm pretty, I'm pretty stoked about it, 'cause it's kind of, uh... You do stuff. I mean, you know what a pain in the ass it is just to- Steel Is Real is- Yeah...
• 7:03
we, we, we had a, a- [laughs] What, what, what did we call it? A, uh- Under- Not a, not a timeout year, but last- Under duress... last year was- Under duress year... yeah. Under, under duress year, yeah.
• 7:11
They, everybody got silly, so I was like, "Meh, maybe we'll just, uh... This is like a, a punishment year," where I didn't invite anybody on the ride. [laughs] Yeah, yeah.
• 7:19
You called it punishment, and I was like under duress. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's not punishment. That's the wrong word. Sorry. I, I... You brought me back to the point. [laughs] Right.
• 7:25
So we used to, at these bar crawls, we used to just, we'd post... We, we'd give away prizes and stuff. We'd do the prize, and then it would be like, "The next bar is..." And then- Psh...
• 7:36
you'd ha- Yeah, people just split. And the, it... Again, it's the dictator part of me. It, it doesn't- [laughs]
• 7:44
They, they're either, A, putting themselves in a more trafficked area or, B, they're, they're not taking the cool route, you know?
• 7:51
Right, and that's why it's like- And, and it's like, it's not about- Well, and that's why it's important to curate the thing in the first place, right? Yeah. It's... Well, yeah, yeah.
• 7:56
That's what we do- No, the- That's what we do with Steel on Trails... any, any of these rides- It's a curated ride... you're just trying to find that sweet spot. Yeah. So now- Sweet spot... I,
• 8:05
I, we brought it back another step. We wouldn't put it up till the end till we're leaving, but it just... People, once they know, they're just like, "Ah," you know, and gonzo, you get a lot of people together.
• 8:16
No, it, we were just- And there's kind of a vibe where some people can't handle it, and they wanna show off- [laughs]... or they wanna, like- Think they know a better route... yeah, you know?
• 8:24
No, it, it would be easier if we went- Or, yeah, or take us down a cul-de-sac... just here to here. [laughs] No, because like, I, I... 'Cause that happened.
• 8:31
I never forget that, 'cause I mean, I remember it was- I was low-key pissed, man... being di- I was like- No, oh, no, no, no... low-key. You... No, I... Oh, yeah. [laughs] It was, it was fucking Buttcrack Andy.
• 8:42
[laughs] Oh, yeah. Buttcrack Andy was fucking the one that was fl- BCA... yeah, BCA. There's always a guy that's gonna ruin a ride.
• 8:48
And, no, he was the one that was like in your hip pocket, Bill, and he's going like, "Yeah, no, I just really wanna know where, w- where the next, where, where, where the next stop is."
• 8:56
And you were very diplomatic on this. [laughs] And it was just like, "Well, you're just gonna find out when, when we get there." And- It was just, oh, seamless. And- Yeah, I mean-...
• 9:06
you're my hero on that in terms of, like, ride planning. And just, Jesus, Todd- Yeah. You, you pull it off a little better than we do sometimes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, but that's the thing. Just don't tell him.
• 9:13
[laughs] 'Cause we, well, we have a rule. It's c- it's DFL: Don't Follow Lunz. [laughs] 'Cause he's the guy that's always off the front and trying to figure out where we're going next.
• 9:21
And he's a clever bastard 'cause he'll, he'll sidle up into my hip pocket. Yeah. So it's like everyone doesn't know what to do until the last second, and it's like, okay, here's a test. Do you remember?
• 9:31
Don't follow Lunz. If he goes right- [laughs] If he went right, you follow Lunz. You fail. [laughs] Yeah. He, he was a casualty at one of those rides as I recall. Yeah, of course. Oh. Couldn't be. More than one.
• 9:43
Couldn't not be. Yeah, yeah. Jesus. Yep, but still fun to have on a ride for sure. Yes, exactly. Oh. Yeah, he's, he's good to have. But just don't follow him. Was it last weekend we did the Kashube Park thing?
• 9:52
Uh, two weeks, but- Two weeks ago. Yeah, but it feels very- But it was like- [laughs] The concussion is still there... yeah, we only, we only had eight people maybe.
• 9:58
It was just kind of a get-together, quick, quick ride, but- I, that, you know, that's such a cool...
• 10:02
That, that was, um, the first, like, after the, the big shutdown, I did this, like, a scavenger hunt thing during the pandemic. And our first ride, 'cause I was...
• 10:13
It, it was, it was designed to be, like, a time-wasting scavenger hunt, so we made it really hard- Yeah... and, like, full of weird arcane stuff. And, um, our first ride after, it was probably, like,
• 10:25
I don't know, March 22nd or something, we all kind of met, and then we all, like, kept our distance. But it was cold as fuck, and we were riding out to Kashuba Park, and we discovered, like, this whole Fast and Furious.
• 10:37
There was, like, all these tuner cars drag racing and shit. Oh. There was nobody out anywhere. [laughs] Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, that's- It was radical... sweet. Yeah, that would be awesome.
• 10:45
That was, uh, that's the, that was the- Well, the, yeah... silver lining of the pandemic for me- Sure... was just the awesome- Yeah, between the... Yeah... just ruling the roads, man.
• 10:53
And, like- That's what, when they started redeveloping underneath, uh, uh, Summerfest grounds- Yeah... and they shot over there- Yeah...
• 11:01
when they figured out, hey, we can actually go back here, and nobody actually is back here. Yeah. And if it is, there's one cop. Oh, wait. Am I encouraging the youth of America?
• 11:11
[laughs] [laughs] How w- how f- how, how very wipers of me. Yeah, so what are you... How, how are you approaching people being, uh, knowing about the ride? 'Cause it's- Um-...
• 11:20
semi on the down low, but not- Yeah, it is-... totally on the down low. We d- so we did one, I don't know, this is probably 2013 or something, and it was one of those freakish... It, it couldn't have been a more...
• 11:33
It was, like, 81 degrees during the day, and nighttime was, uh, it was, like, 64. It was just perfect, and we were at a place called, uh, Oklahoma Tap, and we had like 300 riders, and it fucked everything up.
• 11:50
Like, it, you can't- Oh, man. There's no venues to hold that. Right, right, right. And then when you have people spilled out in the street, that's when cops start showing up and- Right. Angry and- So it makes... Yeah.
• 12:00
So I just deci- 'cause we used to put up posters and, you know, do things like you used to before Facebook and, and- Yeah... and, uh, it just-
• 12:11
For a lot of people that don't ride all year, it's l- one of their last things they do. Right. You know?
• 12:15
It's, it's in October and- Well, that, that large ride size is the same thing that happened to, like, Fat Tire Tour. They're just- Right... there's only, you can only go to breweries or- Right...
• 12:25
there- j- there's no place that's gonna hold 400 people. Or the registration line for the River West 24. Right. Or the parking lot at some- [laughs]... county park. You know, you, you... Hey.
• 12:34
[laughs] It's like, what's going on here? Yeah. No, actually, okay, to be fair. To be fair. To be fair. Uh-huh.
• 12:40
Was, uh, the line for the people that volunteered the year before, the line for the 24 for that was longer than it was for the non-volunteer. Registration. Well, that's fine. That's very prescient by the way.
• 12:55
It was, right. What's that? Nothing. You'll find out. [laughs] [laughs] Uh, so you're trying to kinda keep it in that sweet spot of 60, 80 people-ish? That one, I usually... I- if-
• 13:13
  That would be aggressive... if it's, if it's 64, it'll be 150. If it's 58, 120. If it's 58 and raining [laughs], 40. If it's- [laughs]...
• 13:26
52 and raining, tw- We did one, it's, it's rain or shine, so we did one one year and it was fucking miserable. It was just- Yeah... pouring all night long. Oh. Right. And it, it was- I do recall that.
• 13:39
I do recall that one- And it's such a banger... where I was just like, "No, I am just, I'm just absolutely just soaked." It w- it wasn't- Ah... like, cold out. It was like- We had a cool band after...
• 13:48
it was just, they're just- It was really f- You know, it was set up to be awesome and... I've kinda, we- we've, we've kinda been, um, plotting and, and planning this out for a little bit now. I, I...
• 14:00
You get to a point where you're kinda like, "Man, do I, do I wanna do this anymore?" And then I go in my garage and there's, like, all this cr- prize bullshit I've accumulated [laughs], you know?
• 14:09
[laughs] And I'm like, "Well, I gotta get rid of it somehow." Well, if you wanna donate it to Steel Is Real- Yeah... we can get rid of some of your crap for you too. Oh my gosh.
• 14:15
[laughs] Hey, uh, for those of you who are listening that don't know Steel Is Real, um, their new digs, I haven't seen them since their old place. I am, I'm blown away. I'm super stoked for these guys.
• 14:29
It's so fucking cool. It's... I, I, I love warehouse spaces, and I love- Oh... like, post-modern World War II looking architecture and, uh, it, it... I'm, I'm, I would shop here if I didn't know you guys.
• 14:42
Did you, you saw the windows, didn't you? Yeah, man. 'Cause the windows are the whole reason to have this space. That's, that- Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's, it's, uh- In the white room- It's beautiful... with black curtains.
• 14:50
Oh, is that- > Are we doing- I don't know. Did we reach the- I just grabbed shit. Fair. So yeah, if you get a chan- Like, I'm, I'm eagerly anticipating your future fee guesses. This is- North. Yeah.
• 15:01
Pretty cool. We're, we're, like, 90% there. There's just- Yeah... it's ti- It's getting some stuff. One. The, what the thing that was gonna make the real difference though- I'll check...
• 15:09
is the door you came in- It's like... is gonna be the back door at some point. Oh, really? We're gonna, we're gonna punch a hole in the windows- Oh, right on. Yeah, yeah...
• 15:15
on the far end of the building to put a door into the parking lot, which is going to- I'm really overselling... uh, Dropout Fight Club and a couple other things. There's a CrossFit gym right next to us. Awesome.
• 15:25
So, um- Yeah, it's, it's a- But that's, you know, that's an investment that I don't, I can't make now and it's winter anyway, so- Winter is coming... we'll probably try to do it next spring.
• 15:33
But the, as I was saying to you guys off podcast, um, I, this, I'm a Bay View dude, and I don't ha- I have got no ish with River West. I love it up here. I just, it's not practical for me to hang, you know?
• 15:48
It's a, it's a long, arduous- I know... drunk ride home, you know? Right, right. I know. I do. And, and- I'll have a guest room soon, you can crash here.
• 15:54
Yeah, we come, we come down by you about, I don't know, five times a year, six times a year. Yeah, yeah. Nine. Yeah. It, it, it, it's a road ways, man. It's a rubber band thing. I know exactly what you're saying.
• 16:01
Thank you, thank you for attending my birthday. Point, point in- And, and- Oh, dude, that was a great night. I had so much fu- Oh, it was, that was a really beautiful night. The Hawk Is A Weapon- Great...
• 16:11
is the one that play, uh, practices here. Yeah. We, um- The monstrous collaboration that they- Big, big sound of big people doing big noises. Yeah. At random. But so- Yeah [laughs]... my, my River West,
• 16:25
uh, travails have some sort of- Yeah... patterns to them, and you guys are not in any of those patterns- Right... which is super cool. I've never been back here.
• 16:34
Like, I just never, it doesn't get me anywhere quicker to going north, you know what I mean? Right, right. Yeah. There's nothing over here, and- Yeah. Well, now- Um-... but now there is... fuck yeah, there is.
• 16:43
'Cause we've got- I, I will come by here any time you guys pick up the phone. I mean, Amorphic is kind of a really good reason for anybody, even if they're not a cyclist or whatever, to come to the area. Yeah.
• 16:52
But once you're here, that place has an event space in that same building, so they do a lot of stuff with, like, River West, uh, whatever they are, the, the merchant group. Riverworks. Riverworks. Riverworks. Yeah.
• 17:03
And they have, uh, you know, maker space stuff going on- Yeah... with tents and, you know. You just missed, uh, Brad Todd unloading cherry to the back wood shop. Cherry. Oh, right.
• 17:14
That he's having made into a kitchen island. Brad Todd has a, an Ape, just like you. Mm-hmm. Only his is black. [laughs] Mine's purple because- Oh, and that-... he wanted it painted black... bi- that's a bicycle. Yes.
• 17:24
And there was, there was a big black dong- [laughs]... strap on, on the fencing, like, right across the street. I have pictures if you wanna see it. [laughs] And it was the best thing for the longest time.
• 17:33
It was like, "Oh, there's a cock." It was there a very long time. [laughs] You know? And then one day it was gone. Yeah, right. Yeah. Somebody got a little righteous on themselves. Well, you, you, you- I'm just like-...
• 17:41
you saw deer before on your ride. There's actually deer across the street. Yeah, that's like a deer compound. Oh, a lot. Yeah, it's, it's okay. This is, that's what I was saying.
• 17:48
You get here now because this area, it's gonna, you know? I mean, it's so cool right now that it's bound to be exploding in the next- Yeah... couple years. You know what I mean?
• 18:00
Like- Just don't tell the city we're here yet. Right. [laughs] 'Cause we're- I'm not telling anybody. [laughs] We're technically not- Yeah, we're almost squatting... not even here yet.
• 18:06
See if anybody can find the white room with black curtains studio. Yeah, exactly. That's why I was like- It's hidden deep inside the bowels of a factory...
• 18:12
no, I, I've, I've had to try to, I've tried to hand addre- guide people in here before, Bill. [laughs] It's just like, like, "Oh." He was laughing as I pulled up. Yeah. I'm just like- No... and you're like, "Uh."
• 18:20
And the thing is that every [laughs] there, all these other cars coming in for the fight club. Right. Yeah, for sure. We're, we're like kind of the- Yeah, and every car I'm going like, "Goddammit." I'm like-...
• 18:28
red-headed stepchild of the building, for sure... I was like, "What the hell fucking car does-"... Bill have? [laughs] Yeah, no, I was- I'm like, I was- I was looking, I'm like- I remember s- I remember him with a truck.
• 18:39
I'm kinda looking for a truck. I'm, uh, I, I'm looking around and I'm, I'm- [laughs]... looking at this beautiful... I, I'm not a beer drinker, but it's a beautiful brew pub, and it's just, just cool, you know?
• 18:51
It's a brewery. And I, if I drank beer, I would hang there. Yeah, you know, and, and- They may have seltzers possibly. Excellent. We'll have to walk over there after- Yeah... the show or something- That place is just-...
• 19:01
and just check it out at least... it's worth just chilling. Yeah. Plus you gotta see- It's all the way at-... Beer Alley behind it. It's- The Beer Alley is-... it's so cool. Beer Alley is very awesome. I, I'm into it.
• 19:09
Um, so yeah, I was, I was looking and I'm like, "Man, I feel weird bringing beer into this place," you know? And then I hear, "Hey, Bill," and, and I look, and it was Michael. And- [laughs] Then I looked at my phone.
• 19:21
He had texted me, uh, [laughs] "Drive past woodpile, hard right before the RV." [laughs] It was in pretty good directions. [laughs] Yeah.
• 19:29
I was, I was thinking it's, you know, it's- I wish I'd had gotten that- [laughs]... 'cause I would've been like, "What?" Yeah. It's like the breaking- What the fuck are you talking about?
• 19:34
[laughs] Well, if you look at it now, that's exactly what you gotta do. Okay, it's one of those shows where Michael's on acid. Cool. No, there's definitely a breaking bad- [laughs] I'm microdosing...
• 19:41
RV out there for sure. It's fine. I'm microdosing. Yeah. I better know. [laughs] Ay caramba. [laughs] But it is descriptive. Yes, absolutely. Well, I was trying, I was trying to paint the word picture, you know? Yeah.
• 19:52
Hey, since this show isn't all about us or Bill, I do wanna mention something that I thought was pretty cool I came across. Um- What? Single Speed USA, we can't stop talking about it, I guess. Is that in Austin, Texas?
• 20:03
This is the one that was just- The same day as Cross Bike?... in Decorah. Oh, in Decorah. Oh. But there was an excellent write-up on the Radavist- Oh, nice... that, uh, that Chell did.
• 20:11
The one day I didn't open that email. Yeah, check it out because it's a really good read, and he captured it perfectly, and got all the main characters. And it was like, but he's not part of that kind of organizer group.
• 20:23
He's a guy f- he's, I think he lives in New Mexico now, but he's from Minnesota, couple hours north of Decorah where this was. So he, family trip, he came up, blah, blah, blah.
• 20:32
He makes really cool, um, braised frames and handlebars and stuff out, some of it out of an old bread van. He's got his welding rig in this bread van. Bread. Nice. Well, that's cute.
• 20:42
Definitely a maker guy and makes really cool bicycles and stuff. And, but anyway, he wrote it for that site, and I thought he ca- captured the, what, you know, the, uh, feelings of it really well. Nice.
• 20:54
So check that out. There's a link in the show notes if you wanna do that. Right up, uh, Tony's alley, another, another Hurricane Ian issue. Oh. All the buried e-bikes and their e-bike batteries- [laughs]...
• 21:09
that got buried. That's not- Oh. That's very, they gotta handle them correctly and stuff. It's a little- I, I- There's a thing. There's a deal. There's a thing in the show notes if you- Oh, yeah...
• 21:17
happen to be doing any kinda help down there or... What the hell are you doing over there, boy? [laughs] I don't know. Here, top of the hill- [laughs]... 'cause you're coughing. We better stop.
• 21:26
[laughs] Hey, gee, hey Zeus. [coughs] I'm at the top of the hill waiting for y'all. Well, I don't even have a beer from the thing. Well, yeah, it's right here. Here. Oh.
• 21:36
It's behind, it's behind the- Uh, October Lager, Oktoberfest. This, uh, Billy brought this, and he's not a beer drinker, so there you go. [laughs] What? From the central waters. Yeah. Thank you. Thank you. Yeah, you bet.
• 21:47
What are you sucking down over there? Is that- Uh, a little brandy water. [laughs] Sorry. We gotta, we do have to get some mixer. Do you like seltzer or white soda, or it doesn't really matter? All of it, yeah.
• 21:56
All of it's good. It, it's all good. Especially brandy. It's all good, baby. Take that back. Tonic? Uh-uh. Not brandy and tonic, no. You know, just I love the tonic. Oh, no, cannot stand it. I'm too, too... Yeah.
• 22:06
So what is this, Michael? S- or you can do the- October Fest... do the, do the thing. Yeah. It's Central Waters. It's an Oktoberfest. How much- It tastes- How much booze alcohol has it got? Where- I don't know...
• 22:15
where the hell is it made? [laughs] Central Waters- The Central Waters Brewery is up in there-... that's, uh, Milwaukee... in the middle of Wisconsin. What? Yeah, it's in Wisconsin. Central Waters is like, uh, by Oso.
• 22:23
Yeah. Didn't they just take over the mill? They're one, they're each one part- Is it Fort Atkinson? Oh, they do have a shop here now- Oh... where the old- Yeah, God... the old Pabst place. Yes.
• 22:34
Um- Amherst is where it's from. Amherst, thank you. Which I, I don't know where that is. But they took over the Pilot- By Fort Atkinson... Captain's Pilot, uh- Oh, right on. Yeah, yeah- Yeah, the old Pabst...
• 22:42
yeah, yeah, yeah. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. That's a really cool place to do stuff in the street 'cause it's blocked off, like little- Oh, yeah... bands out there and stuff.
• 22:47
It's a converted church, and it's just fucking hilarious- Yeah, and it's very cool... when Captain Fred went in there when he was hanging out at the old Pabst Brewery back in the olden days.
• 22:54
Oh, it's funny when you, like, meet up with, "Hey, we're... Hey," another couple, "meet us here." That couple doesn't drink any kind of beer whatsoever, and there's zero spirits whatsoever there at that time- Yeah...
• 23:08
when they open. And [laughs] man, this one guy just looked like he [laughs] was about to just, like, throw everybody off the fucking wall. [laughs] Yeah. That, that's, I'm, I'm that guy, man.
• 23:18
It was like, "Dude, you gotta have an option, man." There, there's no wine? Nothing. Oh. It's wine night at- Well, it wa- it was real-... it's wine night at Art Bar on Wednesdays...
• 23:27
it was real- it was really early in their opening where it was like they just didn't- Right... think about it.
• 23:33
And then this was one of those tales where it was like, "Dude, you gotta have something that's not just beer." Yeah. My wife won't go out and eat a lot of places 'cause they're beer only. Oh, yeah.
• 23:42
Which, by the way, is our 20th wedding anniversary tomorrow. Oh. That's so- Or technically yesterday in internet time. Happy internet birthday- 31 years together... anniversary radio show. So it was yesterday? Wow. Yeah.
• 23:53
Uh, yesterday internet time. Right. Tomorrow today time? Yeah. [laughs] Yeah. I still knew her- Since we post the show on Fridays- Yeah, you knew her before me. I, I knew her before you did- Yeah... technically.
• 24:04
How crazy is that, huh? Yeah. I went to high school with your- Yep. The only dumb thing she ever did was meet me. [laughs] And then I had to re-meet her via you. Yeah, that was funny. [laughs] Michael- What?...
• 24:15
are you, are you Andoring yet? Uh, I did a couple. It's- You didn't do the latest one?... it's slogging. I don't know. Yeah. Eh, whatever.
• 24:22
I just noticed today- I, I let them bunch up a bit and then- And I did a little research on this... I love my Star Wars, but they're getting a little minutiae-y- Yeah, I know... on this. I'm like- It's, it's not bad.
• 24:30
It's, it's background stuff that you can watch a couple times, and not so bad. Yeah, exactly. But anyway They had this- A documentary with explosions... you know, they have all the, the handheld things that do stuff.
• 24:41
They find things and whatever they do, and th- this kid that's w- one of the rebels popped one open and it's like an SX70 camera. Ah. But it's been all pimped out to look like some other thing.
• 24:53
But the way it opens up, you go, "That's an SX70 for sure." You know? I don't remember. They kinda pop up and open and the view finder, and then they were a Polaroid. And so I was like- Oh...
• 25:02
"Is that really what that is?" So I looked it up and then it's also been in Blade Runner and a couple other things. [laughs] Yeah, prop. It's just- As a prop piece they can modify...
• 25:09
it's just weird what they make props out of. Like- Right... like the, the, the Rebel fighter- Props... the front of it's like a dragster, the original one from like a Revel model or something [laughs] that just- Yeah...
• 25:20
was like the perfect shape for the model builder guy to use. Interesting stuff. Oh, yeah. Um, even the, uh, uh, one of the lightsabers- Okay... zoom in enough, even in the
• 25:35
galaxy far, far away, they still use Phillips heads. Nice. Nice. [laughs] You think they'd be smarter than that- Do you-... 'cause Phillips is kinda s- Yeah, they're terrible Just saying. Right?
• 25:45
Did you, uh- There's so many better- Changing, changing the subject slightly... interesting pieces... did you see the LEGO house for sale in Kenosha? That's nice. No. Is it Dave's? Uh- [laughs]
• 25:53
'Cause he makes stuff out of LEGO. It, it sold for way more than the asking price in two days. It's very LEGO themed. Did Dave buy it? Is it... Oh, is it... Where is it? It's in Kenosha, I believe.
• 26:04
There's one, there's one on the- Kenosha. It's pretty cool. I will admit. There's one on the beach north of Sheboygan maybe. Sheboygan. No, no. North of Port Washington maybe. Okay.
• 26:12
But it's, uh- Lord of the Mansquatch... it looks like a LEGO house. It's all super colorful and stuff and- This, this is totally LEGO themed on the inside. That's annoying. It's kinda trippy.
• 26:20
This just looks like a super human decided- It's annoying already... yeah... you know? It, it, it had its appeal. Did you get it? I'm trying. There's one gnat. One horrible, horrible gnat.
• 26:28
One bonus of all these windows is when it gets chilly out, it's still warm in here 'cause the, that's a west-facing wall and it just beats in here, so we get- There he is...
• 26:37
we get bugs, you know, later in the season than most. Plus we're starting to accumulate plants. Thanks, Kim, for bringing those, uh, plants. So, so- Oh, did she bring all the bugs too? Sh- no, I don't think so.
• 26:48
Not today yet. Oh. But we're gonna have home- That's my girlfriend... we're gonna have- My girlfriend brought the gnats that day... we're gonna, we're gonna, uh, we're gonna have home- I'll just say-...
• 26:54
a home for bugs... I'll apologize later then... in that these plants will need worms and stuff in there too.
• 26:59
But, um, the west-facing windows are great for light, but they're also great for rain 'cause it rains inside the building when it rains, so I'm lining the windows with plants.
• 27:07
And the front, either the front- Make it look like it rains or-... or the middle room is gonna be themed with toolboxes that have plants in them on that to catch the rain so that it doesn't bounce into the room.
• 27:16
Ooh, catch the rain. You know, so we're having, we're having to do- Yeah, it's like Rain Forest Cafe down- Right. Yeah, exactly... on, on, on, uh, in downtown Chicago- Yeah, we're gonna-...
• 27:23
that was just like, yeah, they just had leaky pipes all over the place, and they just kinda like... Yeah. I'm, I'm currently living through- [laughs]... the tail end of a, a potato bug infestation. Ooh. Oh.
• 27:33
It's just super annoying. Well, at least they're not a stink- Those are like- That's on your plants, right, not your body? No, it's in our house. [laughs] Oh.
• 27:39
And it is like, they're like these little slow ass droney- Yeah... dumb things, but they're too big that I don't wanna kill any of them 'cause they'll splatter all over the fucking place. Right, right. Right, right.
• 27:50
And so I just kind of- They look like they're m- I just slap them to the ground and stomp them if I can, you know? Like, that's my preferred method, just like- So you don't have a cat?
• 27:57
I don't have a cat and my dog is, uh- 'Cause they would bat that thing all over the place... he, my dog is completely indifferent. And, uh, yeah, so- [laughs]...
• 28:04
and it's, it's driving my lady crazy because it's like a personal affront [laughs] to her that these... She fucking cleaned everything in our pantry and like put everything in new containers and airtight.
• 28:16
And she's like, "I can't figure out where they're coming," you know? Just like- It's nature... dude, yeah... it's life, man... sometimes that shit happens, you know? It was- At least it's not cockroaches in Florida.
• 28:24
Yeah. Right. Yeah. They can always look on the sunny side. Or electric bikes in Florida. [laughs] [laughs] For sure. Oh, that's a weird- Wow... I hadn't even thought of that.
• 28:34
You know, as, as you get older and the world changes and s- things like that you never... I... Pulling out flood-buried electric bikes just wasn't in my- Yeah... [laughs] purview, you know? Like- [laughs]...
• 28:49
well, that's a new set of problems- Oh, that's a thing now... we gotta deal with. I, uh, I had to update the firmware on my lights at home. That's- Never in my wildest dreams- Yeah...
• 29:00
did I ever think I'd utter that statement. I love my lights with firmware upgrades. Uh, it's like, it's cool, but it's like, Jesus Christ, what lights- Did you see the, you saw the ones in the front, right?
• 29:07
That they were like- Yeah... four different colors. I could even make... They could even change color and be all groovy. They were blue and, uh, yellow for a long time for Ukraine. UK. Support Ukraine. Yeah.
• 29:19
But, uh, now they're just trippy colors like maybe rasta acid colors or something. 'Cause we don't wanna support Ukraine anymore or what? Rasta colors. Not that we don't want to, it's just- Samba bunch... you know.
• 29:28
I, I kid you. I'm not supporting the Brewers either, and that's their color. I, I, uh, yeah. What? Yeah. You know what they, did they tie but lose? Yeah, nah. I don't know. No, they, no, they didn't tie but lose.
• 29:38
They're gonna lose, lose. Well, they're gonna lose- Um-... but if they had the same record they would've tied- Yeah, but Phil-... but they would lose... Philadelphia had to lose three and then- Right...
• 29:44
they had to win three. Yeah. Philadelphia won their first one. Oh, just that unmanageable- It's just they're like, uh- It was, uh-... right on the edge...
• 29:50
you know, I, I was a little sad that this post-season isn't happening. We got a little spoiled there. We had- Yeah... five straight years of playoff baseball. I love it, man, like, 'cause I'm pretty active- Sure...
• 29:59
in the fall and there's day games. Hell yeah. Like, there's two day games on Friday- Oh... and it's great. I can listen to a baseball game at work, you know?
• 30:06
I mean, it, it helps pass the time, whether you're driving or whatever. I, I, I lo- And see, any time it's Bob Uecker, dude, that's like the shit. 88, 88 years old that Bob Uecker. That is the shit.
• 30:17
He, I, he, I, I'm gonna cry my eyes out- Oh... when he's gone. I know, I know, I know, I know. The replacement dude sounds somewhat similar.
• 30:25
He's trying to kinda get the affectations but, uh- Without telling stories- Yeah, just-... about midgets. You can't do that anymore. Yeah. But just leading into it going like- But Bob Uecker can.
• 30:32
He told a fucking story on the way home, uh, Sunday afternoon about the St. Louis traveling manager was, uh, he, he... I think he eventually said little people, but I'm pretty sure he said midget.
• 30:43
And, and, uh, he had- They put him in a drawer [laughs] and like closed the drawer. And I'm like, "Dude, I can't see-" It's like everybody's laughing their asses off...
• 30:54
this, this is, yeah, this is not how you like- Oh my God... fill, like fill, okay, fill the time- Yeah... in between the pitches. But I mean- Okay, they're talking and, okay, just come up with a story...
• 31:04
you gotta do seven years of Major League Baseball stories, you know- Yeah... traveling and f- it, it's, it's a crazy rare thing right now, you know? Holy shit. Yeah. I think he's good for next year. Well, yeah.
• 31:15
I mean- God forbid... they definitely have him on a pitch count. Or, or whatever he's [laughs] Oh yeah, he is on a pitch count. Yeah. So here's... All right. You guys are small business owners.
• 31:24
This is something I thought of on another Sunday afternoon driving in to Milwaukee, and Bob Uecker's on the radio.
• 31:32
And I thought, what if you'd, as a small business owner, would you pay 100 bucks for a lottery ticket where, I don't know how many home games there are, it would be small business Sunday, and Bob Uecker would, they'd pull 26
• 31:47
weeks worth of small businesses- Right on... and Bob Uecker would do your pitch, like for 30 seconds. "Hey, everybody. It's, uh, Uecker." Yeah. I mean, and say whatever the copy is.
• 31:56
Well, they do it with, I mean, they do it with bars, so they, you know, they do even- But that's like a casually-... sometimes even the video thing... pretty funny. Yeah.
• 32:02
But still, I mean, that would be an additional thing that would be cool. I like the idea. Yeah.
• 32:07
I'm kind of thinking about- Small business owners Especially if you got to keep it for, you know- Yeah, for, yeah, for sure... for perpetuity. So if s- if, if you did- Perpetuity...
• 32:13
a 30 second thing with, uh, Bob Uecker for your record shop, how would it go for Rushmore? Oh, dude, I c- I can't, I'd, I'd be- Uh-... sure- Well, you'd have the Dave's-... we'd have to put history notes, right?
• 32:24
So how mu- so- Yeah, for sure. What do you want- So- What do I want Bob Uecker to say? That'd be great... Ellie owns Rushmore with a partner. Yeah. Daniel DuShane is my business partner. Business partner. Business.
• 32:34
So how long have you guys actually been down there? You're on, you're on KK- At that spot, since '98 I think. Wow. Wow. You're old. Uh, before that- You're old...
• 32:43
we were across the street where, uh, John's Sound Estate Tattoo is, and we were there for like four y- four years before that I think. Wow. You're old. So- So, so the, so the shop isn't su- I'm getting older every day...
• 32:57
it's not the, it's not the- Just a matter of time... so it's not super large in there. No, it's not. So how do you curate it? What, where do you lean towards? How do you...
• 33:03
If somebody's looking for something, is it- You know, it, it's, uh- Is there a lot of ABBA in there? There is ABBA. I would imagine.
• 33:10
Our deal is, and we've always, man, well, we, we, it's the worst business decision we probably ever made, was to buy that fucking place. [laughs] 'Cause I was working there, and, uh,
• 33:23
w- we bought it like [laughs] right before the advent of Napster, and we bought it- [laughs] Wow...
• 33:28
the, the previous manager, the, the owner was kind of starting his own business, and, uh, the manager was stealing money left and right, and the dude w- he wasn't checking up on it.
• 33:39
And so we bought a business that had no money, just stock basically. And- Do you wanna buy another one like that? [laughs] Yeah. [laughs] 'Cause, look at how cool this place is, though.
• 33:48
I mean, we have a- This is why you want to get an old one... we have a, there's a number here, and it's astonishingly, astonishingly low- Yeah... to get into this place.
• 33:57
We, oh man, we, we had to buy, we, nobody would give us any credit. We had to pay for shit with money orders.
• 34:03
And then we got it kind of like, okay, these guys are legit, and then Napster hit, and it was just like, fuck, half our, half our clientele was gone, you know? And it was...
• 34:15
So we've always catered to the weirdos in society, the, the stuff that is not popular, that's not, I shouldn't say, yeah, yeah, they're weirdos. I mean, we're all weirdos, right? Yeah. Totally.
• 34:26
[laughs] You joined the club early on. And, uh, so we, we've always dove deep on just whatever. But Dan is, is certainly more responsible for the... I, I, I'm kind of like, I don't know, um,
• 34:41
we, we, we are, w- we're a good team in that our strengths are in, in other areas. Right on. And, uh, he, yeah, he is, he's like Forrest Gump of, of music. I mean, he, he's, I, I don't know.
• 34:54
He's n- not on the spectrum or anything, but he should be, you know what I mean? Like he... Oh yeah, that was on a flexi disc in '87 with- Oh, yeah...
• 35:03
you know, and that bass player went on to play with Ratos Te Porro out of Brazil, you know, and you're like- Oh, oh, yeah... "Oh, oh, the band before Ratos Te Porro?" Yeah, right. You know?
• 35:12
And you look it up, and you're like, "Motherfucker, how does his brain work?" Exactly. I, I do have a couple rabbit holes- Down one of them channels of pornographic memories right there...
• 35:18
I do have a couple rabbit holes I, I jump on. Yeah. But no, he's, he's engaging. That was our whole thing, like we've always been like the third coolest record store in town, you know?
• 35:28
And- [laughs] So what's number one, in your opinion? Uh, well, it was Atomic of course. Oh yeah, when the Atomic- Any better-... was still there...
• 35:33
you know, but I mean, like their deal, and I, I never understood it- Well, the, yeah, the-... was they were kind of like- The realest...
• 35:39
they had, I remember in the UWM Post, it was like something, I don't know, they were kind of notorious for if you bought, you know, they'd kind of give you the side eye, and they, they weren't- No... the most hospitable.
• 35:50
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know? Like- No matter what you bought- They're uber cool... they side eye you. You know? Unless you're like Bob Park- I feel like, no-... buying the obscure-... no...
• 35:55
Frank Zappa, you know, bootleg off the soundboard. Bullshit. Yeah. Oh yeah, you're right in there with me, bro. No, I got, I remember getting, no, I got fucking, uh, Depeche Mode 101 soundboard cassette,
• 36:07
um, from '90, '91. I can't remember what year it was, but I got it from there, and I got that like side eye bullshit. I'm going like, "Fuck you." Yeah.
• 36:19
This is actually a real- But it's, there's still- This is, this is a purchase, you dick. Yeah. That's, that's- And I got, no, I just walked away. I don't know. It just- I know what a deal was...
• 36:27
it doesn't cost anything to say hello, you know what I mean? Like- So, so that doesn't manifest itself at your place though. Oh, hell no. Well, yeah, you know, I mean, we all have our bad days. Okay?
• 36:36
But- Feels good to at least side eye me when you-... for the most part- Don't come screaming in for Britney Spears- Well, I'll tell you what- "I want that Britney Spears remix."
• 36:43
Unless you come in asking for- "How about now?"... like Screwdriver or something, or, you know, some blatantly just fucked up stuff- Yeah, whatever, you know? I mean, what you like is what you like.
• 36:55
We're not here to judge. We're here to find it for you, you know? I mean, that's- The judging comes later... and it's fun. Every day is like a new adventure What's, what's the worst album you've ever sold?
• 37:03
[laughs] Oh, man. I... [sighs] [laughs] There's been so many. [laughs] Uh, no, I don't know. Um, I, I would- No, no, wait. Don't go to a dark place. Come on. No, no. No, this is a light... Yeah.
• 37:17
I can't even think of- Way to go, Tony. Jesus. Yeah. Thanks, man with the purple hair. Oh. Debbie Down- [laughs] You know, the f- number one death of- No, but every day-... emails like house deaths. Yeah, anyways...
• 37:27
is like a new adventure and it's kinda fun. You're always digging. You're always looking. It, it's kinda... I'm kind of a glorified junk man, my particular job.
• 37:34
Dan does the retail, I do all the internet stuff, and we, uh- Glorified junk man. [laughs] So what percent- Dude did it. Dude did it... what percentage of stuff just...
• 37:42
I mean, not trying to get into your b- deep into your business model here, but how much is ordering stuff special for people and how much is purchasing in the store?
• 37:52
Uh, I don't understand your q- ordering stuff special for- Well, like, it's not in the store- Special orders... so obviously special orders... so, yeah, you said, "Yeah, oh, I want some, um- I'm sorry.
• 37:58
Uh- Special orders don't upset you... you know what? It's, um... That's right. Um, we, uh, we used to have a card that said, "Special orders turn us on." And, uh- [laughs] We, um... It's way...
• 38:12
We, we certainly do special orders for people, but straight bus-... As Bay View's, you know, grown up and gotten s- more affluent and- Yeah, for sure... you know, I, it, it's now we get people...
• 38:25
I'm really sad Honey Pie moved because- Mm... we'd get people that were just bored, waiting, you know, to, to go spend s- $75 on a brunch, you know?
• 38:34
[laughs] And, like, they've got a half an hour to kill, and it was awesome. I need- Yeah, yeah, yeah... I need that new Sleep double album. Yeah. [laughs] I gotta see if they have it over there. Totally.
• 38:42
It's, it's so- Paying 75 bucks for brunch. [laughs] Well, there I... So in, I, I forget what it's called right now. I don't know how much brunch is there, but you know what I mean. It's probably 75 bucks, dude...
• 38:50
it's like they're, they're waiting for like half an hour. Well, if you're having mimosas and stuff like that, it's- Yeah, no, it's 170... I could never- Yeah, if you had to... I worked in the service industry too long.
• 38:56
I'm just like, "Who would wait for brunch?" Like, no. Just find another spot. Unless it's- No, the point- Unless it's The Noble... no, the point of going out is to get food in the belly now. No.
• 39:05
Unless it's The Noble for Monday service industry brunch, then you wait. I didn't even know about that. I, you know, Mondays are- Oh, it's the best... they're never in my, you know, proposal...
• 39:13
Camino Baby $5 burgers- Oh, yeah... at Camino. You're, yeah. [laughs] That's a hard one to mess up. I, I, oh- No, service industry brunch at The Noble on Mondays is absolutely stunning. Look at it. Look at the spread.
• 39:22
Stunning, Billy. But you work, so you can't even go there. That's it. I know, but when I- Same with Mondays... look at the spread you have... when you take a haircut from a girl, you just lean back and go, "Ah."
• 39:30
[laughs] It's 'cause the food there is so delicious. Orgasmic is the word you're looking for. I get my hair cut once in a while. Yeah. It w- it was weird during The 24 when he- Right...
• 39:38
was getting his hair cut in a very, you know, cut your hair a f- funky fashion by, I think it was Jen. Jen. And he just was leaning back going, "Ah." [laughs] It's River West 24, man. It's the greatest day of the world.
• 39:50
May, maybe he was shrooming or something at that point. I don't think so. Not yet. I don't think so. Oh, crack those mushrooms, Tony. Here, here's a, on that tip, I gotta give you a tip.
• 39:57
On Wednesday nights, you can get a dollar cheeseburger, regular-sized cheeseburger at Don's TV Repair. Yes. Sweet. Stumbled upon that. Where is Don's TV Repair? Is that on KK? Uh, it's on- Yeah... First Street.
• 40:11
First and- First Street, okay... Washington. By Cermak. Oh, right on, yeah. It's like a little kinda- Cermak Really?... sticky place, you know? But, uh- Cermak...
• 40:19
they get you on the s- they'll try and sell you a $14 easy malt or whatever and- Mm. Mm-hmm. You don't have to take that crap from them. You don't have to. [laughs] Yeah. [laughs] Wasn't getting guff from this one.
• 40:29
I know your game. I'm not- If you're turning your f- if you're pulling up change out of your ashtray in your car, that's a good spot to just go and have a burger, thank you very much. That's, uh...
• 40:39
Camino kinda got Mike and I one day. Yeah, yeah. JK. Sorry, folks. Uh, it's- Whatever... it's hard to remember our radio names after- Yeah, I know... all this time. Dun, dun-dun, dun, dun-dun. [laughs] Mine's easy.
• 40:50
Oh, yeah. Am I on? Tony? Am I on? Yeah. [laughs] I can't hear me. My real name's Ken, but no one knows that. Ken. Well, Billy- Billy... thanks very much. You wanna lay anything on us before we cut out of this deal? Yeah.
• 41:01
I mean, I don't know- Pumpkin Pavilion, dude. This is your forum right now, bro. Yeah. Dude, Pumpkin... Yeah, I'll, I'll tell you about that, 'cause I just- Oh, yeah. This is good... if, uh, if...
• 41:10
I, I'm kind of on a high. I put on a little clown nose before and nobody... it didn't fluster any of you. Did get my- I was a little sad. [laughs] I just noticed it now. I was getting the camera out.
• 41:19
And, uh- [laughs] I just noticed it and I'm like, "Yeah"... I was at this fundraiser last night, um, to raise money for the Pumpkin Pavilion, which is another thing we haven't done in three years, that we didn't know,
• 41:32
I didn't know if we were ever gonna do it again 'cause it's a, just a, it's a huge undertaking and, and we lo- we had some attrition with some of our key staff and stuff.
• 41:41
And we got to a point where we were like, "All right. Well, listen, we're just gonna do it," and we have to, we had to purchase all new scaffolding, which is insane right now. And,
• 41:53
um, but now once we did that, we're like, "All right. We're in. We're doing it." So we had a fundraiser last night, which was a trivia contest, and we auctioned off some things. Excuse me one sec. [coughs] God bless you.
• 42:06
And, uh, yeah, thanks. Oh. We, and we had auctions. There was a three-night stay in Door County and, uh, we had- Oh... some really nice things, but the coolest thing- I think I know...
• 42:17
is my buddy, uh, Matt Bauer, he's a local cat, and he used to live in what was called The Zombie House in Bay View. Mm. And, uh, he had to move.
• 42:29
The guy was selling the place, and so he didn't have this creative outlet, and I'm like, "I'm gonna find that dude and, you know, like, give him the... just be like, 'Dude, what do you wanna do?'
• 42:39
Like, let's do something together." And I was really fortunate in that he was into it. He loves doing what he does. And w- at one of the earlier meetings this summer, we were talking about what can we do to raise funds?
• 42:50
And w- we're like, "Well, maybe we can get Matt to make a zombie." And then I was thinking, like, w- Milverine comes around the, the, the, uh- Yeah, he does...
• 43:00
he comes around some of their Bay View Neighborhood Association events- He comes around everywhere... and I'm like, yeah. And, and I'm like, "Does anybody know him?" And so they're like, "Yeah."
• 43:10
And, and the next Wednesday after Chill on the Hill, they're like, "Milverine says it's cool." So I hit up- Yeah, yeah, yeah... Matt, and Matt made this amazing... It was so great.
• 43:20
It, it's Milverine but with, like, part of his cheek missing and his teeth, like, sticking out. Oh, nice. Zombified. There's a big hole. I'll show you pictures after. Right on.
• 43:31
But for those of, uh, you in the listening audience, Milverine's, like, a local. He- He's a legend... looks like Wolverine- Totally... and he just walks, and he walks hard With a determined, determined gait.
• 43:42
Determined gait. Yeah. It looks like he's breaking concrete when he walks. Very determined gait. Yes. But surprisingly, he's pretty cool when you ask his- Yeah. Oh, he's hilarious...
• 43:47
you know, hang out and take a picture. And now he's, and now he's got a dog named Princess. But he...
• 43:52
Like, this dude lives just south of my neighborhood, and he walks on these thoroughfar- Like, he's a local legend, 'cause he's, like, this ripped dude who just solitarily just marches along [laughs], you know?
• 44:03
And you never know where he's going. Yeah. You never see him anywhere. It's like he's going fast enough where the wind actually gives him the Milverine hair. [laughs] Yeah. Right. Right. Totally.
• 44:09
So yeah, so during Summerfest, uh, the Tubes were playing, and I was outside poaching the show, and that's when- [laughs]... Milverine came at me. I was inside watching the show. And he was inside.
• 44:22
[laughs] And- So I missed the Milverine... that was the day with all the fog. Oh, yeah. Like, like all the fog. It was like, it was amazing. Was, was he shirtless? Oh, yeah. Wow.
• 44:31
Dude, he was just like- Yeah, he, no, he's always shirtless... I, I was just like, "Shit." I'm just like, "Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah." I'm like- He's got his, he's got his T-shirt parked up in his back pocket.
• 44:37
And also, I'm like, "Okay." Everyone looked pensive. Yeah. So, um- [laughs] So we had this event- John... scheduled for- I do believe his name is. I don't know... we had it scheduled for yesterday night.
• 44:50
And Matt, you know, he's volunteering. I would, I would never sweat him, and I knew he say do it, he's gonna do it. And, uh, he, he sent me pictures [laughs], and I'm like, "Oh my God. Dude, it's fucking incredible."
• 45:05
Like- Oh, wow. [laughs] So we can sh- we can show this after. Oh. Oh, yeah. That's beautiful. Um, um- Is it a cake? Can we eat that thing? [laughs] Oh, it's full size. Yeah. It's a full size Wolver- It's badass...
• 45:21
Milverine. Sorry. And, uh, I couldn't resist. I, I'm like, "Oh, just drop it off at my place," 'cause I wanted to do this. [laughs] With the dog. That's my dog, Wolfgang. Nice. [laughs] And, uh- Awesome, yeah...
• 45:38
I, I took this picture- Friends in the park... of Milverine walking with his T-shirt tucked, and then I took it, and we raffled it off. And that went for $475. It blew- That's a deal... my mind, man. That's a deal.
• 45:50
I was like... Oh, it was so cool. I think, so you heard it here first. I was thinking about this on the way over, and I don't know how...
• 45:56
This one we might not be able to get permission, but we might have to do it anyway. How about Zombie Giannis dunking a, a skull? Or not a skull, but just a, a disembodied head. Yeah, for sure.
• 46:08
Like, a life-size [laughs]- Maybe a-... seven-foot-tall zombie. That would be fucking awesome. Maybe a Zombie Yelich- Right?... 'cause he's kind of a zombie lately. Dunking. No, no, no. [laughs] Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, no.
• 46:20
He's dunking his own head. Ooh. Oh. Ooh. All right. Now everybody. All right. All right. Does he have a head too, or did he take it off on his way up [laughs] here? Yeah. Wait. Hey, man. Yeah. Wait.
• 46:32
That kind of- Hey, man... that's the zombie issue. Dude. Yeah. He would've killed- He, he- That's, I don't want to see Giannis committing seppuku. You, yeah, you brought me down into this place.
• 46:41
[laughs] Committing suicide. Yeah, except he chopped his head off. Um, yeah, no, no dead Z- Giannis is not, he's, Giannis is in Yucker's category in my book, like, just all goodness. Um- Ah, so far, thankfully.
• 46:54
Yeah, so far, but I mean- So far. I don't know. He's young. He- He's young. I'm just saying. He, he got a quarter billion dollars, and he's still getting fucking- Say, "Hey, we said the same thing about Bron.
• 47:02
We said the same thing about Raj." We said, "Eh, blah, blah, blah." Eh, I don't think so. I don't know. I'm sorry. He looks like- You grew up in a different culture.
• 47:08
No, I think, I, I- So I think there's something to your culture... no, no, no, no, no. I, and I, I wanna be wrong on that.
• 47:11
I th- I, I- No, I'm not, I'm not asking for it, but I won't- If, if it's like a dude- I won't be surprised if it would occur... if he's cheating on his wife, yeah, that sucks. But, like, dude, imagine if you're Giannis.
• 47:22
It, it's every night's the best buffet you've ever been to, right? [laughs] You know? And, like, it's like, yes, morally, oh my God, you know, you can't do that. But
• 47:32
I don't know if my moral fiber is that strong, you know? [laughs] No, I think he dovetailed into a very interesting,
• 47:40
I, uh, perf- like, performance path where, you know, I don't think he ever, like, really just like, "Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah." And then it was like hitting the, the mean streets of Boston, you know? Or shit like that.
• 47:53
Yeah, I don't know. On to other sports news. Yeah, right. [laughs] Like- Oh, he's just gonna- So, yeah. We do have, um- What the hell are we even talking about? It's not a bicycle- You're the one that brought it up.
• 48:03
It's- [laughs] It's- I lost my train of thought [laughs] completely. It's not a bicycle, um, specific event, but I would like to invite everybody to the Pumpkin Pavilion. Yes.
• 48:14
Um, it, it happens, uh, what we do is we unload 14 Gaylords full of pumpkins from Swan's Farms in Racine. Yeah, and then we clean them all out. We have, like, a, a, just a bunch of people show up.
• 48:30
And if anybody out there hears this and wants to show up, please come. We al- always use help. Scooping out, scooping out the brains. Scooping out brains, yeah.
• 48:37
So then when people get there and they get the empty, uh, the empty pumpkins, they carve their own. And then we put them onto a scaffolding. And it, during each carving, we've got live music, um, each night.
• 48:51
And then, um- Yeah... on the Friday night, we've got a, a grand lighting of the pumpkins. And there's always- There's like a...
• 48:59
Sometimes Bay View Drum and Bugle Corps comes over and does, like, a little thing, and we have a, a little kid that this year, I, I'm... may wanna... There, there's actually a Pumpkin Pavilion baby.
• 49:13
We used to do carvings and- [laughs] We used to do... When we look back, we're like, "That's insane." [laughs] We would take these pumpkins. I was talking to Joe from Club Garibaldi last night.
• 49:23
We'd take t- like a trailer and a half full of pumpkins to Club Garibaldi, where we'd clean them, cut them, gut them, then bring them into the hall, and people would clean them. And, uh, that's...
• 49:34
  When you're ta- when it's, like, 300 pumpkins, that's a shitload. That's a lot. Yeah. It's heavy. Yeah. That's a lot of pulp.
• 49:40
And, and it was just- [laughs] And then we'd have to reload them and make sure not to break them. We're like, "This is insane." We're like, "Joe, sorry, we can't. We're just gonna do it all on site."
• 49:49
However, one of these carving nights, my buddy Dave met his wife Megan, and they fell madly in love and created the two cutest little boys. And one of them is old enough to, like, kinda know what's up, but he's...
• 50:03
I ki- his little brother isn't yet, so I'm, I'm... I want them to, to do the lighting of the pumpkins at some point, 'cause they're a Pumpkin Pavilion baby, you know? [laughs] Makes sense. That sounds totally legit.
• 50:14
And, uh- No, you- And then we have, um, we have the grand lighting, and then we have two sets, um, each night. This is all free. Uh, we used to have hayrides. I'm super bummed.
• 50:25
The hayride guy, he, one of his horses died. No more hayrides. Oh, that's sucks. But we've got all sorts of cool... We, we hooked up with, uh, Andy Oatmeal from- Yeah... West 24 to do some night lights for us. Right on.
• 50:38
And, uh, there's, there's Maker Space. We're always trying to get them involved, and we're doing, um... There's some crazy scavenger hunts, and, uh, there's... Like, the Exotics open up on Friday. They do two sets.
• 50:51
Oh, nice. Andy Ziegller. Yeah. So what's the, what's the, uh, what, what are the dates of the actual- October 21st-... big, big shindig... and October 22nd. Friday is the 21st. That is the grand lighting.
• 51:01
It's from 6:00 to 10:00, so it's like a... Y- you can still, if you're coming from other parts of the city, you're still out. You know, you can get on the roads before bar time and get back home and, um- Is it, uh...
• 51:13
Does it go then through Th- through, through- Nope... Thanksgiving, Halloween? Or just the two days. No, man, it's crazy. It, it's- Okay. Two nights... it's such an involved process- Yeah. Mm-hmm... to put it up.
• 51:21
And then if you go Sunday morning, this is another thing that we learned to do, is- [laughs]...
• 51:25
invite people to come take pumpkins, 'cause there's still a we- we always do it the week before trick-or-treat, so there's still a week, and then people just come with wagons and try to either get their pumpkins that they carved or ones that are cool.
• 51:38
[laughs] So it's half the shit we ha- we don't have to lift, which is great. Nice. That's awesome. 'Cause sometimes you do- Again. You gotta start raffling off little red wagons- Yeah... so that people can get a clue.
• 51:47
Work, work smart, not harder. Right? Yeah. We've got, um- [laughs] Fuckin' lol. But I guess the point is, is it's a family event, but it's not square, and it's a, it's a really romantic date if you wanna come hang out.
• 51:58
Yeah. Make pumpkin babies. Yeah, make pumpkin babies. All right. Well, sheista, this one went nice and long. Right? Yeah. [laughs] Yes. Whoa, it is. Thanks, Billy.
• 52:07
I mean, and no, we could go another two hours for all I care, but, um- Well, yeah, hopefully it'll ev- it'll soothe somebody's boredom for whatever they're doing. [laughs] Right.
• 52:16
Well, you know, Chuy always does an hour, and I'm like, "How do those guys do an hour every time?" And it's not even having a cool- Sometimes we get racist. It's just Billy.
• 52:21
It's just- I might just bring a windbag on your show. [laughs] Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. That's me. That's me. And another thing... All right. Well, thanks again for being on the show.
• 52:31
It's not like you have to wait three years to come back at all. All right. We'll come back, uh- 'Cause, uh, I'll even put my digits in your phone, bro. Yeah. I, I left it out, and then I took it back- [laughs]...
• 52:40
'cause I wanted to show you the Wolveri- the Milverine pictures. And, uh- [laughs] Can you put those into your notes if I send them to you? The pictures? Yeah. Yes. Absolutely. Oh, right on. Yeah. We have the technology.
• 52:51
It's amazing. And you can see my dog Wolfgang being walked by Milverine. Do we have to wait till after the- Does it come from an AOL dial-up? Halloween? My iPhone. I got a clip.
• 53:00
  I got a- I wanted to say thanks- It's not, it's not a, it's not an AOL.com... I, I do have a clip from Real Milwaukee, too.
• 53:05
Uh, uh, my buddy Craig Sween works in production at TV6, and he c- he was able to put it together. Like I said, I was freaking out. I want- Oh, is that, is that like a backdrop? Yeah. No? Okay. Oh, yeah.
• 53:16
That's on their morning news show. [laughs] Classic. From my friend Matt's basement, where he was posing the Milverine. Um- All right. Well- [laughs]...
• 53:25
thanks again, and, uh, I guess we'll just make this noise and we're out of here. Later. [upbeat music] Yay.
• 53:35
  Bye, everybody.
