- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome. To the three.
- 0:03O take where we talk all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the three O take
- 0:17presented by SeatGeek. This is episode 461.
- 0:20I'll be your host, Kyle Korne. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:22Reyes night. That's me.
- 0:30Good to meet you. Welcome back.
- 0:33It's a pleasure. Hello, everybody.
- 0:35Welcome to the party. It's we got a, we got a good one
- 0:38today or what? Can I, Well, can I be honest
- 0:41with you? Do you know how hard it was for
- 0:45me to just not make this an hour and a half session talking about
- 0:51how much I love backyard baseball?
- 0:56I wasn't aware until you put that TikTok out.
- 0:59It's back, it's coming back, it's the self.
- 1:01Control that it took me to actually compile notes about
- 1:08actual things happen in Major League Baseball right now and
- 1:11not just talking about back here baseball.
- 1:13To answer your question, yes, all of the what I would imagine
- 1:19is from what I could tell, all of the all the sports are back
- 1:26or going to be back when that time comes.
- 1:28We don't, we don't need to get into it right now, but I just
- 1:30wanted off the top here to throw out the fact that it was it was
- 1:35a challenge. Can it be done on your phone
- 1:39like there's got to be? We're going to get into it.
- 1:45We're going to get into it, but I'm proud owner of a Switch now.
- 1:51So that's going to be a game changer.
- 1:53That's going to be a game changer.
- 1:54But yeah, to answer your question, I think it's going to
- 1:57be a good episode. Today.
- 1:58We got some. Got the juice?
- 2:00Somewhat somewhat positive news here throughout.
- 2:05We got some we're going to be talking.
- 2:07Some post season, some changes in post season odds.
- 2:09Well, good news for some of those teams.
- 2:11We're going to be talking. World Baseball Classic pools
- 2:15have been released. We're talking new front runner
- 2:20for National League Rookie of the year.
- 2:23Some bad news for Braves fans, though not not not the year for
- 2:30the Braves. Some some names have been
- 2:33released, although I think some of these were pretty
- 2:36predictable. And then just some good old
- 2:40fashioned backyard baseball talk.
- 2:42And then I did have a just a a random question for you towards
- 2:46the end. Wanted to get your thoughts on a
- 2:51pitcher your your top three pitchers you'd give the ball to
- 2:55in a postseason game right now. I'll start cooking that up.
- 2:59But that's just a teaser. We're going to get into that
- 3:01here here shortly. Right off the top, though, let's
- 3:07talk about the shift in the narrative surrounding the
- 3:12postseason bracket, because it's getting to be a mess right now.
- 3:18It's getting a little cluttered. Some of these races are getting
- 3:22awfully close, and some of the teams in the mix have fallen
- 3:30from grace. Some have ascended to glory.
- 3:34That's what we say about August, right?
- 3:35You know. I mean this we, we talk about
- 3:39how much we hate the month of August, but I, I can't lie, it's
- 3:45been a month of activity. Primed.
- 3:49So, yeah, is it August has been a month of activity and it to
- 3:53your point, it is perfectly set up what I think is going to be a
- 3:56very interesting month of September.
- 3:57Although how, how much do we think at this rate is it going
- 4:03to dictate anything at this point other than seeding?
- 4:06Because I feel like the playoff picture.
- 4:08I feel like we. Is getting awfully clear like it
- 4:12it's it's still fuzzy, but I think September, right, it's
- 4:17just going to be a a determination of seating.
- 4:20Yeah, at this rate. I think that's fair.
- 4:22I think that's fair. I think some have said that
- 4:25August is like is like preheating the oven, you know
- 4:27what I mean? It's what we're doing.
- 4:29We're just preheating September. We'll be cooking it up.
- 4:35All right, so talking about the changes in post season odds,
- 4:39because I tell you what, if we, if you looked at this visually
- 4:45on a graph, you're seeing some some lines on that graph just
- 4:49plummet and you're also seeing some just kick it up a notch for
- 4:57a handful of teams. And I, I, I have a list here the
- 5:01the five worst changes in post season odds since the All Star
- 5:05break. And then I have the five best
- 5:07changes in postseason odds since the All Star break.
- 5:11And I intentionally told you not to do any digging around.
- 5:15You know me. For the big researcher is what
- 5:19they call me. For these big researcher, you've
- 5:23always doing research, Always doing research.
- 5:25No, I'll give you credit. I'm not even going to knock you,
- 5:27you, you've, you've turned a stone in that in that regard.
- 5:30You not today. Not today.
- 5:32Well, like I said, I intentionally told you not to do
- 5:35any digging around because I wanted to get your thoughts or
- 5:39your guesses, I should say, on these teams.
- 5:44So we're going to start, we're going to get the negative out of
- 5:47the way at the start of today. Name the five teams that have
- 5:55the worst change in postseason odds since the All Star break.
- 5:58The worst change, so we're not saying like these aren't the
- 6:01worst teams. It's like odds look good then
- 6:05All Star breaks since now odds have.
- 6:08Reversed. They flipped, correct?
- 6:10Not the worst odds as of today, but since the All Star Break,
- 6:14who has? Which teams have witnessed the
- 6:17worst changes in their respective postseason odds since
- 6:21the All Star Break specifically? I want to say it was like, I
- 6:26think I typed in like July 18th, but it's all the same because
- 6:29they weren't, they weren't playing so.
- 6:31Give me the Mariners. The Mariners.
- 6:37There it is. OK.
- 6:40Sorry man, I had to scroll the sound board sounds on it.
- 6:42What was that? Out of the five worst?
- 6:46Who were they? Are they like?
- 6:48Mariners are #1. Mariners are the number one
- 6:50worst. Drop off -42.1%.
- 6:58That's tough. Give me.
- 7:02Give me the Rays. Tough.
- 7:13That's tough. Let's move along.
- 7:18Give me, give me the Cardinals. Cardinals in second at -39.7%.
- 7:36Good, good. This is tough, man.
- 7:42It's real tough. Why do I want to stay in the
- 7:45Central? Why?
- 7:46Why do I want to say Cubs, Dang. I love watching you wait with
- 7:55bated breath. You're like what sounds.
- 7:56Good, this really is just straight guessing.
- 8:00Well, to, to, to put in perspective though, we, I'm, I
- 8:04mean, I'm not, I'm not trying to give any hints or clues away
- 8:06here, but we've, as I said, the playoff picture as it stands
- 8:10right now is relatively clear in terms of teams.
- 8:15We're just lacking the seeding because the, the, the margin of
- 8:19error and the, the distance between these respective teams
- 8:22are so razor thin. And so we're really just waiting
- 8:26out the seeding. But a lot of these teams I feel
- 8:28like we've we've been discussing as of late and either kind of
- 8:31stuck a fork in. I think I'm really I'm going to
- 8:34do well on the best. I think I'm going to.
- 8:37I think so too. Give.
- 8:39Me. The Reds.
- 8:44Dang it, Dang it, Dang it. You've got the top two teams as
- 8:48it stands right now, the Mariners and the Cardinals.
- 8:53I just don't feel like the Red Sox are far enough out of it.
- 8:56I'm going to say Red Sox. The Red Sox at #5 have seen
- 9:04their worst the the fifth worst change in post season odds as of
- 9:10today at -15.5%. So you have three of the five
- 9:17teams. Mets all right, all.
- 9:28Right four out of five. The Mets come in at #3 at
- 9:31-24.6%, third worst change in post season odds since the
- 9:38break. Although don't tell that to Mets
- 9:41fans because I think there's a a a fraction of Mets fans that are
- 9:45still holding out hope. Their scoreboard operator, which
- 9:47I don't know if you saw that post, their scoreboard operator
- 9:50put out the Idris Elba meme. Tell I want you to tell the
- 9:54world that we're back up with the Mets hat on Photoshopped.
- 9:57Put that up on the scoreboard today after the walk off against
- 10:00the OS. I'm not here.
- 10:02I'm not going to say that I'm about it, but I'm kind of about
- 10:05it. Crazy.
- 10:06That's an excellent use of that meme.
- 10:09It's in my, it's in my my collection.
- 10:11I will say you're missing one more.
- 10:19I know the 4th. Team on the list?
- 10:22You've got the Mariners at one, the Cardinals at 2, the Mets at
- 10:253, the Red Sox at five. Who is holding down that fourth
- 10:29spot for worst change in post season?
- 10:32Not since the break I. Already said the twins, right?
- 10:39You did not say the twins. Let's go, twins.
- 10:48All right? Is this like an obvious 1:00 AM
- 10:54I? Am I?
- 10:58Without giving away too much, I I feel like there was some
- 11:03optimism. I mean, obviously there was some
- 11:06optimism for this team given the fact that they've fallen.
- 11:09But this is one of the teams I feel like we have discussed as
- 11:16of late, maybe not as much, but we have certainly, we have
- 11:19certainly included in our conversations for good reason.
- 11:22But I think they're they're running out of steam.
- 11:25I think they've hit a wall and I think might be might be toast
- 11:31knocking on the door of getting a fork put in and we'll just say
- 11:33that. What the heck, dude?
- 11:40I can give you a hand if you'd. Like Rangers?
- 11:48Give me it's a it's a National League team.
- 11:55Giants. Damn it.
- 12:12I mean, at this point, I don't know how many teams are left in
- 12:14the lead. Yeah, just send it.
- 12:18No luck. No, you're out of guesses.
- 12:21Pirates coming in at #4 on the list.
- 12:24The pirates at -16.5% of the of the teams on that list.
- 12:29Is there any that? Are there any that jump out at
- 12:32you? Are there any that are but you
- 12:36feel maybe aren't deserving? I mean not the the percentages,
- 12:40the the projections say say one thing, but are there anything?
- 12:44Are there any teams rather that you would say something other
- 12:47to? I don't know if I fully follow
- 12:51that question. The number the projections say
- 12:54that these team like based on record, based on strength of
- 12:58remaining strength of schedule. However, this formula is
- 13:01calculated. This is what the list says for
- 13:04the top five. However, are there any on this
- 13:07list that you don't necessarily feel belong on the on this list,
- 13:11or that you haven't quite given up hope yet for the post season?
- 13:20No. Really.
- 13:23Because you guessed the you guessed the Red Sox, and you
- 13:25said you don't genuinely feel as though they're completely out of
- 13:29it yet. Yeah, I just numbers wise what,
- 13:323 1/2 back of the last wild card spot.
- 13:35You're just saying process of elimination like of the teams,
- 13:38OK, that. That makes sense.
- 13:39Yeah. But like I I think like 3 1/2 in
- 13:43a month, like that's doable still like yeah, it's definitely
- 13:48still doable. I just think when you look at
- 13:52like, it's basically just the Royals that they're really like,
- 13:59right? Like for that last spot, isn't
- 14:01there quite a bit of a gap? I'm not, I'm not even looking at
- 14:04standings right now. This is crazy.
- 14:06It's just all guessing. I mean the the central is still
- 14:11still up for grabs. So like the Twin, you could.
- 14:14I mean, the Twins are still in the mix as it stands right now.
- 14:16The the the AL wild card and the Red Sox already have played
- 14:21today. But as it stands right now, they
- 14:23are three games back of the last wild card spot, but the Twins
- 14:27and Royals are tied behind the O's.
- 14:37Yeah, I don't know, man. It's just like the Red Sox just
- 14:43I feel like, and you can back me on this, I just I feel like
- 14:46they've, but I could pat them on the back for being in this
- 14:50position in the 1st place just because of pre season
- 14:54expectations and just seeing kind of the way they started and
- 15:00how it was, you know, April and May.
- 15:04It's just like. I think this is pretty decent.
- 15:07I did come across an article today that says something to the
- 15:10effect of the Red Sox are fading, which was their 2024
- 15:16destiny all along or something. Did that affect them?
- 15:18Like they're fading later than I think.
- 15:20Yeah, yeah, that's, I mean, that's fair.
- 15:22And I'm, I'm not, I'm not giving up quite yet.
- 15:27The bullpen is atrocious. That has to be fixed for even
- 15:32the the slightest chance of of a lot of.
- 15:35Teams could retweet that. I mean, it's but on like on
- 15:43paper, the worst bullpen in baseball, I believe since the
- 15:45break. So just horrendous.
- 15:50But yeah, to your point, I think the rest of the team's on that
- 15:52list. Maybe put a little bit of a fork
- 15:57in. Yeah.
- 15:59All right, let's switch gears to the best here.
- 16:01You said you think you're going to do much better on the on the
- 16:03best list. I feel good here.
- 16:04I feel good. The top five teams who have seen
- 16:08the best change in postseason odds since the All Star break.
- 16:13Give me the Diamondbacks. The second team on the list, the
- 16:22Diamondbacks at 49.7%. That's a big jump.
- 16:29Big, big jump. What are they like something
- 16:33crazy? Dude, it was like 27 and six or
- 16:37something like that. The D backs are hot.
- 16:41The D backs are hot and they're they're in the hunt for the
- 16:46Division crown. They're only four back as it
- 16:49stands right now. Don't rule out the D backs going
- 16:51for the division. Here's a tough guess because I
- 16:54don't know if they started making their push before the
- 16:57deadline, so I don't know how big of a jump it is.
- 17:00The break, yeah, like our break, but I don't know how big of a
- 17:03jump it is percentage wise. I just feel like the Astros have
- 17:11gotten after it, no? The Houston Astros the 4th best
- 17:18change in postseason odds since the break, coming in at 32.8%.
- 17:23So you currently have the 2nd and the 4th teams on the list of
- 17:28the top five. What you don't want is, if
- 17:32you're a Mariners fan, to be on the first list in the Astros to
- 17:35be on the second list. That's a bad combo.
- 17:37That is a direct correlation. Yeah.
- 17:40Yep, Yep, Yep. Give me the Padres.
- 17:45The Padres #1 on the list of best change in post season nods
- 17:50since a break, coming in at 57.3%.
- 17:56Deese Deese. Padres are making a lot of
- 18:01people look stupid right now. I'm not.
- 18:03Nothing's happened yet. Nothing.
- 18:05Nothing has been earned yet but the push that they are making,
- 18:13making a lot of people eat their words from back in.
- 18:16April it's true. They really showed up that
- 18:20bullpen they just see. Did you see that the other day?
- 18:23That Profar like 8th inning, 3 run home run, She's never out of
- 18:30it. It's crazy.
- 18:34Royals. Kansas City Royals 3rd on the
- 18:40list at 40.7. Not what you want to hear as a
- 18:45Red Sox fan, but it's all right. Only Uno mas.
- 18:51You have the Padres, you have the D backs, you have the
- 18:57Royals, and you have the Astros. Who is the 5th team that has
- 19:02seen the best change in their post season odds since the
- 19:05break? I feel like you can get this.
- 19:17You think should go 5 for five piece.
- 19:23Can he do it? Can he go 5 for five?
- 19:29Biggest jump? I've got my finger on the
- 19:31correct button. I'm I'm fully anticipating you
- 19:35going from 55 here. Don't let me down.
- 19:40Give me the Brewers. That's impressive.
- 19:45That's impressive. The Brewers coming in at 5th on
- 19:48the list at 16.1%. I don't know about you, but the
- 19:53way that that list is ordered. Best change in post season out
- 19:56since the break. Padres D backs Royals, Astros,
- 20:00Brewers. That makes sense to me, although
- 20:04if I'm being quite honest, I would almost put the the Astros
- 20:08at the top. That's why I think we go back
- 20:12further than the break. That's probably the biggest jump
- 20:16because didn't the Mariners have like A10 game lead at one point?
- 20:19Squandered it. Squandered it.
- 20:24Well, the the the Astros I believe were 10 games under at
- 20:28one point, I think. Wasn't that like a month into
- 20:31the season? Like they fell off a Cliff
- 20:34early, fast and early and then the Mariners just coasted along
- 20:40and then tailed off and then as predicted.
- 20:44Then the inevitable happened. The Astros came back
- 20:48unbelievable. Unreal.
- 20:50But yeah, the Padres, dude. Padres, I'm proud of the
- 20:54Diamondbacks. I am.
- 20:56I am the NL W as a whole right now.
- 20:58Like I know we've talked about it, but that I mean, that is
- 21:02shaping out to be a very, very exciting race.
- 21:07And not to like you, you just sprinkling some names like
- 21:09Corbin Carroll for one is I would venture to say safe to say
- 21:15back. Yeah, yeah.
- 21:18I mean, the Dodgers are are just going to be the bully that these
- 21:21teams are after. Yeah, that's been the case all
- 21:24year. But I mean talk.
- 21:25About like, like even, even like weird stuff like Christian
- 21:30Walker going down and, and, and Josh Bell coming in and like
- 21:34hitting right away. Jake McCarthy has come onto the
- 21:37scene and just seem like he's kind of overtaken Alec Thomas's
- 21:41spot. You know, Guriel continues to do
- 21:45what Guriel does. It's just like you got E rod
- 21:49back at the right time to go make a push.
- 21:52Like they I think they're just well equipped.
- 21:57The Brewers. I don't know how much of the
- 21:59Brewers I want to credit. I think they've done a good job.
- 22:03I'm like, I'm really impressed what they're doing offensively
- 22:05because that's never the story. And we talked about the names
- 22:09that left and they got rid of between Burns and hater and like
- 22:12stuff like that. But like, I don't know how much
- 22:18of it is associated with like how or like the correlation
- 22:22between how good they've been in their gap or like how bad the
- 22:26rest of the division has been. You know what I mean?
- 22:29Like the rest of the division is super unimpressive.
- 22:31No, I'm, I'm with you. I think it's a combination of
- 22:34both. I think it's, it's time for us
- 22:36to finally give the Brewers and I, I say us, I say we because I
- 22:40think you and I mostly you, but I'm, I'm going to include myself
- 22:43in that. I, I just generally have not
- 22:46been excited by Brewer, by the Brewers brand of baseball for
- 22:54honestly years at this point. It's just like, I don't know if
- 22:57it's maybe because where they play, like maybe the maybe for
- 23:01the Brewers, the whole coast bias thing comes into play
- 23:05because I just feel like they're smack dab in the middle of the
- 23:08country. So like maybe some teams that
- 23:10are closer to the coast but not quite on the coast, it's like,
- 23:12OK, it's just there's just something about Milwaukee
- 23:17baseball that just does not move the needle for me.
- 23:20I think you could say that for a lot of people, except the
- 23:23Brewers fans, probably. I think 1 can argue it's a good
- 23:26time to be a Milwaukee sports fan, you know what I mean?
- 23:29Like the Bucks are always in the conversation.
- 23:32The Packers seem to be coming back with a vengeance.
- 23:35You. Would know this.
- 23:36Didn't they just lock down Jordan love for?
- 23:39High speed QB in the league man. I mean, what are we, what are
- 23:42we, what are we doing here? It's a It's a great time to be
- 23:45alive as a Milwaukee sports fan. It's a big old cheese head out
- 23:48there. You're living life.
- 23:50But to finish my thought though, the I think it's time to give
- 23:57the Brewer some credit, but also recognize that the rest of the
- 24:02division just stinks. Just sucks.
- 24:09I agree. I do agree.
- 24:10I do I think. I think you and I were both a
- 24:12little higher on the Cardinals and there for a minute it was
- 24:16looking not half bad. And then they were just like,
- 24:18Yep, OK, we're on to 2025 for some reason.
- 24:22They're really confusing. Makes no sense to me.
- 24:25But anyway, Speaking of yeah. They they are who we thought
- 24:30they were. You know what I mean?
- 24:31Like have a better deadline. Speaking of seasons to come,
- 24:38let's look ahead real quick to 2026.
- 24:46To Houston. To Houston, you and me.
- 24:50We got some other current events to get back to, but we, I mean,
- 24:53we, we went pretty heavy there on on some post season odd
- 24:56changes. So let's just take a quick
- 24:58little break. Let's talk some World Baseball
- 25:00classic 2026. The pools have officially been
- 25:05released, and I got to say, the juices that were a flowing, it's
- 25:14almost as if I picked right back up where I left off.
- 25:19Well, sans the Japan showing the US to the door in the
- 25:26championship. That was kind of a buzzkill.
- 25:28But yeah, it was. I mean, it's Mike Trout in a big
- 25:33moment. What can you really do?
- 25:35Yeah, no knock on Mike Trout. Just yes, Calling it like I see
- 25:39it. Slight knock.
- 25:42The pools as I mentioned though have been announced.
- 25:44You got Pool A with Puerto Rico, Cuba, Canada, Panama and it says
- 25:52qualifier. I'm assuming that just like.
- 25:55Whoever gets in, yeah. Right, just a team that has yet
- 25:58TBD. Canada was in our bracket
- 26:04correct Last year. It might, Yep.
- 26:07Yep, Yep. Yep, Yep, Yep.
- 26:09In place of Italy, I think because Pool B, you have the US,
- 26:12Mexico, Italy, Great Britain and a qualifier.
- 26:14I don't recall Italy in our bracket last year.
- 26:16It was Canada, correct. Yeah.
- 26:20And then who was our, who was the qualifier or I said last
- 26:23year, I meant 2023. Venezuela.
- 26:31You might be right. I think it was Venezuela.
- 26:34Yeah. Yeah, I think that's right.
- 26:37And then pool. So you got Japan, Australia,
- 26:40Korea, the Czech and a qualifier.
- 26:44So I think if you win a game, you qualify right?
- 26:48Like if you won a game in your last WBC, just one dub gets you
- 26:51back right? Is that how that works?
- 26:57I feel like that's how it works so you don't have to So you
- 27:03don't have to re qualify basically.
- 27:06Pool D Oh oh, I see what you're saying.
- 27:08Like the teams that are in already?
- 27:09Like not automatic bid if you won last if you just won a game
- 27:12from last time, yeah. Pool D you've got Venezuela,
- 27:16Dominican Republic, Netherlands, Israel and a qualifier, although
- 27:19I don't know didn't I don't know why Aruba comes to mind.
- 27:23Didn't Aruba win a game? Zant or I feel like Aruba won a
- 27:30game. Did they not?
- 27:31Wouldn't they be in? Did they win?
- 27:38I mean, we're talking, we're talking Xander Bogart's here.
- 27:46Of those pools, though. What?
- 27:48Which of those? Oh, no, he was Team Netherlands.
- 27:52What am I saying? That's what I thought because
- 27:55Aruba's technically no, that's curious.
- 28:02Like that's like AI don't know whatever.
- 28:07Yeah, Team Netherlands at the at the World Baseball Club, Yeah,
- 28:09in Mexico City. I remember watching that game.
- 28:11I thought they I thought they won a game.
- 28:13Would that? Oh, I could be wrong about this
- 28:15qualifier, I don't know. That's possible.
- 28:18Which of these? Which of these pools gets you
- 28:21excited? I kind of, I don't know how I
- 28:27feel, but I, I think just going off of right this second, right
- 28:32meow, I'm going to say that I like that the, that Puerto Rico
- 28:38and the Dr. are separate now. I think they're in the same pool
- 28:43last time, right, because they were both in Miami.
- 28:46They kind of beat up on each other.
- 28:49I like that they're separate because I want to see them like
- 28:53deeper into this thing facing each other.
- 29:00I think it's fair they run through Pool D though.
- 29:03Pool C Japan's going to run through.
- 29:06I think overall I think Pool A probably is like the most can
- 29:11competitive pool. I also like I also like Pool a
- 29:14Cuba. 'S going to put up a fight.
- 29:16Canada will, will sneaky put up a fight.
- 29:21And I think, you know, like maybe MO comes out of retirement
- 29:24and pitches for Panama. That'd be cool.
- 29:26Speaking of retirement, it's not exactly happy news, but that is
- 29:40that is the breaking news song that I've I've compiled.
- 29:43So you're just kind of have to go with it.
- 29:45But Speaking of retirement. In the back.
- 29:47Joey Votto has officially announced his retirement.
- 29:49I think we all saw this coming, but it has been made officially
- 29:54announced on his Instagram moments ago.
- 29:59He's hanging it up. Maybe he'll come back out and
- 30:02play for Canada. Maybe he'll finally take us up
- 30:06on the offer to join the fantasy league that we invited him to
- 30:11last offseason. Seriously.
- 30:14But he said no, I'm going to give it another go with the with
- 30:17the Jays. Sorry, like all right, I mean.
- 30:26Yeah, this should have happened a while ago.
- 30:28Should have called it when you were still a red.
- 30:31This has been a weird little story, like we got excited for
- 30:37like a split second in spring training.
- 30:40Yeah, there was a moment where we're like, maybe he can still,
- 30:43maybe he can still bang. Not, not the case.
- 30:48An instance of a guy that I think, and I'm not going to sit
- 30:52here and say like, oh, this person should retire.
- 30:55That person should should stick it out.
- 30:57Like these guys are going to go out when they're going to go
- 30:59out. They want to go out on their own
- 31:00terms. Who am I to say otherwise, but
- 31:03Joey Votto I feel like is one guy and we're going to maybe
- 31:06hopefully touch on another later in the episode.
- 31:09Just briefly. Another guy that I feel like
- 31:12maybe should have called it quits with his original team
- 31:16rather than try to make AAI. Don't want to say 1/2 hearted go
- 31:20of it, but an attempt was made but it didn't really pan out to
- 31:25much of anything. Referring to this, this other
- 31:29individual, Joey Votto, is a different situation.
- 31:32But trying to figure out the other individual.
- 31:36Well, we'll get to it. But yeah, Joey Votto should have
- 31:39retired a red, but a career nonetheless.
- 31:42Just running through some some brief numbers here.
- 31:44Right off right on the spot here. 2135 hits.
- 31:49He amassed 356 home runs, was a career 290-5294 hitter, had 1144
- 31:56RB is had an OBP of four O 9 slug 511 with an OPS of 920 and
- 32:04finished with an OPS plus of 144, was an MVP, was a six time
- 32:09All Star and a Gold Glove winner.
- 32:18Heck of a. Career Hall.
- 32:19Hall of Great. Hall of Great.
- 32:22I don't know, man, there's people online at this very
- 32:24second saying next stop Cooperstown.
- 32:28Hall of Great. Hall of Great.
- 32:29Where would? Speaking of which, where do you
- 32:33think the Hall of Great would like?
- 32:35Where would be a good location for Hall of Great?
- 32:37I don't. Know like Iowa.
- 32:47No, they've already got the Field of Dreams there.
- 32:50So we need just need like a random place that doesn't.
- 32:53Already have something correct, thought that was obvious.
- 33:00Hall of Great. Give me like San Jose or
- 33:04something. Just put it in San Jose.
- 33:07Put it in Oklahoma. Either or.
- 33:12What else we got going there, you know?
- 33:16That's where Mickey Mantle was was born and raised.
- 33:19No, it's true. It's true.
- 33:20I I think I like San Jose better if I'm being honest with you all
- 33:23very good. San Jose, CA.
- 33:30I'm about it. Let's go Alabama.
- 33:36I just feel like San Jose is the perfect combination of random
- 33:44but still somewhat notable. I mean they do have a
- 33:47professional sports franchise there.
- 33:49No, the Sharks still still reside in San Jose.
- 33:55No idea. Think so?
- 33:58Let's go hockey. Hall of Great in Galveston, TX.
- 34:01Don't you dare, don't you dare do Nolan Ryan like that And and
- 34:11Nadiavaldi if I'm not mistaken. Don't, don't, don't diminish
- 34:15those careers by putting the Hall of Very, the Hall of Great
- 34:18in Galveston, TX. Unreal.
- 34:21Or there's some tough beaches. Galveston.
- 34:28Are there? I don't know.
- 34:30I can't. I I think it's pretty.
- 34:32It's pretty rough. It's like a, it's like a canal.
- 34:35Of that's isn't that what Chuck was talking about on NBATNT?
- 34:40Yeah, some women in Galveston or something.
- 34:42Or am I thinking of somewhere else?
- 34:44Wasn't it Galveston? I think it's Galveston.
- 34:45I think it's. Galveston, it's, it's rough.
- 34:47It's. San Antonio, I think.
- 34:50I think it's a rough, rough beaches out there, stinky water.
- 34:56I don't know, that's just what I've heard.
- 34:58Threw some shade at San Antonio, too.
- 35:00Yeah, yeah, Santa's San Jose. All of great, all of great Joey
- 35:05Votto. Wrapping up our thoughts here on
- 35:08the WBC in terms of plans for you and I.
- 35:11We're going to Houston. We're going to Houston.
- 35:13I've never been to Minute Maid so I'm super down.
- 35:16Never been either. I heard if I'm being honest with
- 35:18you and if there's any, if there's there's any Astros fans
- 35:23listening, I, I do apologize in advance, but it's just what I've
- 35:25heard. I'm I've heard the Houston sound
- 35:27of great city. I've also.
- 35:30Heard, if I'm being honest. I've been in the airport.
- 35:32I didn't love it, personally didn't love it.
- 35:39I mean, maybe we'll just be kind of confined to the.
- 35:42I think it took me like 45 minutes to get my Wendy's and
- 35:44that's probably like a lot of where my mind's at with the.
- 35:48That's seems like an unfair bias, but bias nonetheless.
- 35:51That I I think is valid. 45 minutes, you know, it's a tough
- 35:55time. You're hungry.
- 35:57You're trying to get your food. You.
- 35:59Need that Baconator you know. Maybe a frosty if you got to
- 36:03wait 45 minutes, you're not leaving there happy.
- 36:06Yeah, well, I'm down. I'm down, I'm down.
- 36:09Let's. Go, let's go.
- 36:10Yeah, I mean, the world, the WBC as a whole, although, although
- 36:14hear me out, hear me out. Do we forgo the pool play since
- 36:20we've done that? We go to like the.
- 36:24And maybe go to Miami. Yeah, we probably do that then.
- 36:30Because you get the semis and the championship and it would be
- 36:33a different I've I haven't been to Loan Depot.
- 36:36I know I'm kind of over that. When are they going to?
- 36:39I'm kind of over it too, but I just feel like it would be a
- 36:41different, that'd be a different level.
- 36:45Let's go to Miami. Although you would, you would
- 36:47just have to know for certain that the US is getting there and
- 36:52I don't. There'd be no way of knowing
- 36:53that for sure. You'd like to think their odds
- 36:56are pretty good. That's true.
- 36:57Otherwise we'd never get US. Yeah.
- 37:00Which I mean, maybe we just go either way.
- 37:03It would be nice to have the US there.
- 37:04But I mean you would have. Met you like Japan, Dr. Yeah,
- 37:08you're going to get some high leverage, high quality baseball
- 37:13there nonetheless. So maybe we just plan to to do
- 37:16that. Oh, and then, yeah, like,
- 37:19obviously, duh, spring training the same time.
- 37:24That's a no brainer. We're going to floor.
- 37:25We're going to floor. There you go.
- 37:27Decisions been made, yeah. Houston have to wait month?
- 37:30Houston, Houston will have to wait for another another time.
- 37:35All right, I'm looking forward to that.
- 37:37I'm also looking forward to seeing how this National League
- 37:40rookie of the year race shakes out.
- 37:41Jackson Merrill, according to FanDuel, has overtaken Paul
- 37:45Skeins as a new front runner for the National League Rookie of
- 37:49the year. Paul Skeins was minus you're
- 37:55you're the occasional better. I this means very little to me.
- 37:59Not not entirely sure how this works, seems rather steep from
- 38:03the little that I do know about odds, but it says Paul Schemes
- 38:07was -5000 to win the National League Rookie of the Year about
- 38:10a month ago and Jackson Merrill is now the -120 favorite to take
- 38:15the home the award. So that means you have to bet
- 38:20$5000 to win 100. No, so I understand that, but
- 38:25I'm I'm saying in terms of like odds that.
- 38:28Yeah, it's obnoxious. It's a whole.
- 38:29Schemes was not that much of A lock a month ago, was it?
- 38:32That's like a lock lock. That's like a absurd for sure
- 38:37lock. So I don't know why that's I can
- 38:42see -500 but -5000 is nuts. It kind of makes sense though,
- 38:47if you're, if we're being honest, because I mean, you got
- 38:52to remember there, I mean, there were people pulling for Paul
- 38:54Skeens. I mean, in addition to wanting
- 38:56him to start the All Star game, but there were people making
- 38:58cases for him to win the Cy Young.
- 39:01So I'm like, OK, maybe we take a step back, kind of clear our
- 39:06glasses a little bit and look at it a little more clearly and go,
- 39:08maybe we not, not you and I, we. But maybe collectively the
- 39:13baseball world was a little in over their heads on giving Paul
- 39:16Skeens a Cy Young. Yeah, just a thought.
- 39:19Just a lot of hype going on there.
- 39:21But I think with like the Padres being in the hunt, I know this
- 39:28isn't a part of the equation, but it kind of is the Padres
- 39:31being in the hunt, Pirates, not I'm assuming there's going to be
- 39:35like a kind of a ramp down for Paul Skeens going forward the
- 39:40rest of the year like. I've heard that they're not
- 39:43shutting him down. Freaking Harley-Davidson out
- 39:45here. Got a motorcycle rally outside
- 39:49your window? This.
- 39:50Dude. They're not shutting him down.
- 39:52I don't know. I don't know what the plan is to
- 39:55to. I'm going to go ahead and say
- 39:57there's going to be like a like a innings limit.
- 40:01Of tapering off. Yeah.
- 40:03That's fair. But yeah, I mean, Jackson's been
- 40:07out of his mind. I every time I look at a Padres
- 40:10highlight, he's doing something. He's making a crazy, insane play
- 40:14in center. He's hitting like a go ahead,
- 40:18home run, a game tying home run. He's just full height, man.
- 40:26Dude, like it's really good. And like when you talk about a
- 40:29roster full of old guys, the youth that he's providing, yeah,
- 40:35I'm a fan. And he's been doing it all year.
- 40:39He's played in 122 of the Padres 127 games this year and as you
- 40:45recall, was an All Star All in the year.
- 40:47He's hitting 289 with 17 jacks, 69 ribbies, 13 bags and eight O,
- 40:534 OPSA, 124 OPS plus, and a 3.4 WAR.
- 41:00He has the highest F4 among all NL center fielders, all
- 41:07qualified NL center fielders, and since the break since July
- 41:1418th is hitting 327 with 30, three hits, five home runs, 23
- 41:19RBI's and 22 runs scored. So to your point, anytime you
- 41:26flip on, the Padres are on a tear right now.
- 41:29It seems he is playing a huge part in this, a huge part in
- 41:36this. And I don't feel like it's
- 41:38getting talked about enough. However, I do feel like I don't
- 41:46know it. It just goes back to how much
- 41:49people were in love with Paul Skeens to where it's like, OK,
- 41:53if Jackson Merrill's been doing this all year, like if he's, if
- 41:56he's been putting up numbers worthy of this award all season,
- 42:00where was this dialogue earlier in the year?
- 42:03I know Padres fans were protecting their boy.
- 42:06They were stating their case for him, and rightfully so.
- 42:09For once, they were right. I mean, I feel like Padres fans
- 42:12are never right, but they were right here.
- 42:17Well, let me ask you this. Who is your NL Rookie of the
- 42:21Year? As it stands right now, you got
- 42:23to sign the sheet. Yeah, turn it off for sure.
- 42:27Jackson, Merrill. Oh, I forgot to tell you.
- 42:29Did you see that thing? I think it was a week ago.
- 42:36It was really odd. Jackson Merrill, Jackson Holiday
- 42:41and Jackson Jerry all had a. Triple.
- 42:43I saw that. That was wild.
- 42:45That was. Great rookies like all.
- 42:47Like all on the same day, all the same name.
- 42:50What are the odds? That's really strange.
- 42:52That's like, really weird. Anyway, yeah, dude, I I love
- 42:57what he's doing, man. That's I think he's like I said,
- 43:01just this perfect, like just energy boost and youth and like
- 43:09I love that they've given him a chance.
- 43:10This is what I freaking told you guys, dude.
- 43:12Mike Shield deserves a lot more love and a lot more credit than
- 43:16he gets. And I'm going to go ahead and
- 43:19assume it's him, maybe a combination of him and Preller
- 43:23that are like, you know what from the jump, let's start this
- 43:25season. Let's let this kid just go.
- 43:27He broke camp with them and they and he they've given him a shot
- 43:30every day, written him in the lineup every day.
- 43:35That's it's so refreshing to see that there's no like
- 43:38manipulation of time. There's no, you know, tough skid
- 43:43for two weeks. Let's sit him down like they've
- 43:45just let him play And he's surrounded by vets.
- 43:49He's surrounded by professional hitters, he's surrounded by Gold
- 43:54Glovers. He's surrounded by like, I don't
- 43:57know, really good clubhouse. I'm kind of high on the Padres,
- 43:59by the way. I'm not to not to go crazy here,
- 44:02but I'm feeling it. I think we're, I think we're
- 44:06shifting the narrative or flipping the narrative a little
- 44:08bit in that regard because I mean, the Pirates have given
- 44:11given us reason to doubt over the last handful of seasons, but
- 44:14this year there's just something a little different about the
- 44:17Padres. I can't explain what it is, but
- 44:20as I mentioned, whatever it is, Jackson Merrill is playing a
- 44:23huge part in it for me though National League Rookie of the
- 44:27Year. Cheerios got to be in the
- 44:31conversation. Too, for sure, for sure playing
- 44:33a big role in Milwaukee as well. But I've if I had to to to put
- 44:45my name to an answer, like if I had to uphold the integrity of
- 44:50the selection, whatever selection process would that
- 44:52would be, I feel like I would have to go Jackson Merrill.
- 44:57However, the fact that I'm seeing Paul scheme slander all
- 45:03of a sudden in an effort to. Yeah, yeah.
- 45:06That's. Not push Jackson Merrill to the
- 45:08top of the, the, the vote getting quote UN quote.
- 45:15I I'm not understanding where that come where that's coming
- 45:17from because what 3-4 months ago Paul Steins was everywhere.
- 45:26He is all people were talking about and he was giving you
- 45:30every reason to believe that he was the best pitcher in the
- 45:33league every time he took the mound.
- 45:36But now all of a sudden, Jack, the Padres are hot.
- 45:39The the pirates are tapering off a little bit.
- 45:40And then it's like, it's like that scene in Toy Story where
- 45:43Andy throws down Woody because he's got, but he throws Woody in
- 45:48the box because he's got Buzz Now.
- 45:50It's like. Great movie.
- 45:52It's like, what do we do? I, I will not tolerate any Paul
- 45:55Skene slander in an effort to uplift Jackson Merrill.
- 45:58We can appreciate both and we can, we can, we can partake in
- 46:03an exciting race for this award down the stretch, but we're not
- 46:05going to slander 1 in order to up to uplift the other.
- 46:08That's what we're not going to do.
- 46:09That's what our society does so. That's fair.
- 46:12That's fair. Let's let's let's transition
- 46:17you, unless you got any other thoughts on on that particular
- 46:19race. No.
- 46:22Austin Riley is out six to eight weeks.
- 46:26What is in the freaking water in Atlanta, dude?
- 46:29Will miss at least the rest of the regular season with a broken
- 46:33right hand. Was hits with a 97 mile an hour
- 46:37heater by none other than the Los Angeles Angels.
- 46:44Ron Washington payback. I don't know what's going on in
- 46:49Atlanta, dude. Like.
- 46:50This is it's, it's honestly insane.
- 46:52My yeah, my, my case or my, my whole shtick about the Braves.
- 47:01Even if you don't make the postseason, you got to finish
- 47:03ahead of the Mets. It's losing steam because it's
- 47:05like we're getting to the point where.
- 47:07How many punches can you take We're.
- 47:09Talking about almost exclusively replacement level players here
- 47:14on the roster like you're. Talking, you're talking about
- 47:16like if you were to if you were to have an All Star team, you
- 47:22could argue that a lot of these guys are starting the All Star
- 47:25game multiple times in their career.
- 47:29You know what I mean? Are you saying on the IL for the
- 47:31Braves? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:32It's. Like, huge names, like there's
- 47:35only so much you can do. I think everyone in Atlanta has
- 47:38just moved on to the Falcons at this point.
- 47:40It's understandable, but I mean, my goodness, how how quickly
- 47:44they fell. What are they?
- 47:46They're riding a streak of like six straight division crowns.
- 47:50Doesn't look like that's going to happen this year.
- 47:51But it's for. Sure, dead in.
- 47:54In response to the news, they went and signed Gio Urchela.
- 47:58What are your thoughts on that? I know, I know.
- 48:00You've watched him play. When they signed him, I didn't
- 48:03even realize that the Tigers had released him.
- 48:06Silliness. Why didn't you trade him at the
- 48:10deadline? I know you got calls about him.
- 48:13Come on, you had to have gotten calls about him.
- 48:16I think he is having a pretty good year.
- 48:19Gio is something where like when you watch him move around,
- 48:24you're like, is is man's hurt? Does does man's does he have
- 48:30some bad toes? Is he just a heel runner only?
- 48:37But he makes some wizard plays at third base.
- 48:40You've got an interesting little little thing recently talking
- 48:45about the way people run. Yeah, more than.
- 48:48I think you ever have. Dude looks hurt.
- 48:50Every time he's moving, he looks like he's hurting.
- 48:53I have not forgotten the Jake Berger slander and I I don't
- 48:55think I will. Terrible trot.
- 48:57Terrible trot. Completely uncalled for.
- 49:01Terrible, but. You like this pick up for the
- 49:04Braves? Yeah, for as a placeholder.
- 49:07Will arguably play better defense than Austin Riley not
- 49:11going to see the same offensive production even though the Sears
- 49:14somewhat of a down year for Riley.
- 49:15But yeah, that's that's a heck of a replacement.
- 49:20That's like that's like a can give you productive everything
- 49:27around. He's going to do fine.
- 49:29He's you can ride him in the lineup when you're, you know
- 49:32fighting for your life in the in the wild card and he's going to
- 49:35he's going to produce. I like Geo, I do.
- 49:43Hector Nares, Dom Smith and Brandon Crawford all released
- 49:49from their respective clubs. Hector Nares released from the
- 49:53Cubs, Dom Smith released from the Red Sox.
- 49:55And Brandon Crawford, the name that I alluded to earlier, who I
- 49:58felt should have just called it when he was with the Giants or
- 50:02let go from the Giants, has been released from the Cardinals.
- 50:08Yeah, I think this was like a, hey, you did your job, you know,
- 50:13molding and helping with their young kid Mason win.
- 50:19But Mason's been playing really well and pretty much playing
- 50:23every day for the most part. So I wonder if their.
- 50:26Mission accomplished, I guess. Yeah, I would say like, thank
- 50:28you for your service. Take care.
- 50:30You know, I wonder if there was like, maybe some kind of clause,
- 50:36play this many games, get a bonus, this many games it gives
- 50:42you some, I don't know, whatever.
- 50:44But yeah, go sign it one day in the Bay, throw your jersey up in
- 50:53the rafters. No one wants to wear 35 anyway.
- 50:55Isn't that what he wore? 35, yeah.
- 50:58Yeah. With the Giants, yeah.
- 51:00Weird number for a shortstop, but you know, you do you.
- 51:04To each their own. Was hitting with the Cardinals,
- 51:07was hitting two. No, that's, that's Matt
- 51:12Carpenter. They they released him as a
- 51:15result of bringing back Carpenter back.
- 51:17But Crawford was hitting 169 with one home run and four RBIs
- 51:23and 80 plate appearances this year.
- 51:25This was a coach on the field. I mean, this was a, you know,
- 51:28again, help kind of mold a young Mason win.
- 51:33Did your job? Go sign your one day Dom Smith.
- 51:39Sort of predictable getting getting Tristan Cassis back.
- 51:44What was the weirdness around like the there was like a big
- 51:48tweet about like a huge slide at the plate last week or two weeks
- 51:52ago. Next thing you know, he's.
- 51:54To the streets. He well, I mean, they're not
- 51:59correlated at all, but yeah, he this the the player you're
- 52:02talking about, he Ball gets, I don't even remember where it was
- 52:05at was in I think it was in Kansas City.
- 52:07Ball gets past the catcher. He hesitates, doesn't see that
- 52:11the ball is behind him, breaks for home.
- 52:14You think he's out by a mile. And then you slow it down.
- 52:17They take it. They take it to New York and
- 52:20then they you see the replay and he's pulling this like swim move
- 52:24gets it, gets a hand in there safe.
- 52:26The friggin Internet seems to blow up because it's Dom Smith
- 52:29of all people just lumbering home, talking about guys that
- 52:32run sort of strange. Dom Smith's just lumbering home
- 52:36beats the blade he's got. I mean, tell you what, when he
- 52:40gets into a ball, he he puts a charge into it, but won't be
- 52:43doing that for the Red Sox anymore given that Cassis is
- 52:46back. So.
- 52:48And predictable. Yeah, he was talking to similar
- 52:52to Urshela. It's it's a guy that was filling
- 52:54in just fine and was really helping with with morale,
- 52:59especially at a time where the Sox were giving you reason to
- 53:01believe like, OK, this the this end of the season may or could
- 53:06could wind up a little different than seasons past.
- 53:09I don't know what it is. We're going to have to look into
- 53:11it eventually, but there had to have been something with like
- 53:14there a specific date in the year of like if you carry this
- 53:19kind of this kind of salary into the next day, you know what I'm
- 53:25saying? Like some type of like tax
- 53:28avoidance or tax threshold avoidance here because these are
- 53:31like these are all common, like decent names and all being done
- 53:37at the same time. I think that has to do with
- 53:39that, something to do with salary potentially with like the
- 53:44September call UPS coming up. I don't know there's.
- 53:47It's yeah, that was where my mind went to is like, I don't
- 53:49know if the if, if there's like a a schedule structure in place
- 53:54in the league that maybe I just don't know about that You have
- 54:01to kind of get the ball rolling on on some of these personnel
- 54:04moves to prepare the roster and preparations for September call
- 54:09UPS. It's it's possibility, maybe not
- 54:12the sole reason, but that may play into it.
- 54:14I'm not I'm not entirely sure, but but yeah, these these three
- 54:18have been dropped. Hector Naris.
- 54:22I don't think he was even doing that bad with the Cubs, right?
- 54:26And there's some decimated bullpens out there right now.
- 54:28Sure, sure. I mean, he, he wasn't, he was a
- 54:31lockdown by any stretch. He he had his ups and downs,
- 54:34but. He's the 6th, 7th inning guy.
- 54:37Yeah, I think the Cubs decent pen.
- 54:40Yeah, for sure. I I would think so, yeah.
- 54:45These are three of the somewhat noteworthy names to be released.
- 54:49I'm sure more will will take place in the coming days.
- 54:53But why do I feel like the Orioles are going to go snag
- 54:55him? That I'll tell you what, dude,
- 54:58they see. What Kimbrell did in like the
- 55:007th today. Have you seen what Kimbrell's
- 55:01done all year? Dude Has been up and down, I
- 55:07mean classic Kimbrel fashion but like as of late they are ready
- 55:10to send him to the moon. Yeah, I know.
- 55:14Certainly to me guess doesn't look much better.
- 55:17Give up the walk off today right was.
- 55:20That him, I think it, yeah, I think it was Jesse.
- 55:22Winker Wild walk off celebration.
- 55:26Yeah, Jesse Winker, that was. Insane.
- 55:30I I mean, I don't know. I don't know.
- 55:31Where do we draw the line? That's what I said.
- 55:33I don't know if you if you saw my tweet, but I I said, I said I
- 55:38still maintain my take from years ago.
- 55:40I said it on this very podcast. I said I still maintain my take
- 55:43from years ago. That in our lifetime we will see
- 55:45a walk off home run result in someone stripping down
- 55:48completely naked. Yeah.
- 55:50I mean what? Was that like started the trot
- 55:55stop? The trot yielded the helmet.
- 55:58No no stop started the trot stopped gave like the this most
- 56:02like insane fist pump eats the helmet and then and then picks
- 56:07it back up. And then throws the elbow guard
- 56:09off, stops halfway to home and just walks the rest of the way.
- 56:14Oh, I didn't even see the rest. I just saw the rest of it first.
- 56:17Just as bad halfway home, daps up Lindor Jersey gets ripped
- 56:23off. Lettuce was a flowing though,
- 56:26good for Jesse. It sure was.
- 56:28It's good for the Winker family right there.
- 56:30That's a lineage of good hair. I think that you're just, you're
- 56:33just going to pass that down, you know?
- 56:37Speaking of passing it down, who are you passing the ball to?
- 56:42Just a little? I, I, I texted you before the
- 56:44episode. I just wanted to throw in kind
- 56:46of a little random poll question here because I knew we'd be
- 56:49talking about skins, we'd be talking about some other names
- 56:52possibly. So I wanted to get your thoughts
- 56:54as we get closer to the postseason.
- 56:57I wanted to pause at this very moment in time and ask you as of
- 57:01this very moment, who are three pitchers that you would give the
- 57:09ball to for game one? Another way you could think
- 57:13about this. Another way you could think
- 57:15about this. You're going into a wild card
- 57:17game series in which you know that you're going to end up
- 57:21playing all three games. Who are going to be your three
- 57:23arms that you that you get the ball to any league, any
- 57:28division, whether or not they're in the post season.
- 57:30I was. Going to ask if they could if
- 57:31they're in the hunt or not. School ball.
- 57:38School balls got to be up there for me.
- 57:41Just disgusting. Corbin Burns, I think it's up
- 57:51there for me. I really trust.
- 57:53I do trust. I do trust there.
- 57:57Do you trust or do you not trust?
- 57:59I do trust. You do trust.
- 58:01OK, good. Do you not?
- 58:02Do you not trust I'll? Be honest with you, I don't have
- 58:06either of those two on my list, I'll just say that.
- 58:09I'm just firing from the hip here.
- 58:11That's fine, That's fine, whole. Lot of research that I did, just
- 58:15still going to fire from the hip.
- 58:19I mean, if like this is a question you could fire from the
- 58:21hip on because it's just it this question more so than than other
- 58:25poles maybe of this style would be like, I think this one, it's
- 58:32more top of the head. You know, like some of the
- 58:35majority of these names I feel like should be there because
- 58:39their names that we've talked about throughout the course of
- 58:41the season because of how well they've done majority of them.
- 58:46I don't know, like Brunel Blanco.
- 58:49Wow, how do? You feel about that?
- 58:56I'd probably go Framber if we're sick.
- 58:57I mean, if we're, if we're snagging a a Stroh's arm, I
- 59:00think there's. Names like I don't know where
- 59:04numbers are at, but like I don't like a Zach Wheeler to me is
- 59:08like AI don't I don't have any hesitation there.
- 59:14I don't know how he's doing this year compared to some of these
- 59:16other names, but. I mean, he's in the Sion
- 59:18conversation, but yeah, sure. In fact, he's he's behind for a
- 59:22lot of people's list. He's behind Chris Sale and Chris
- 59:26Sale only some people. He's ahead of Chris.
- 59:29Sale, Chris. Sale is probably an oversight, I
- 59:30think, yeah. I don't know though, postseason
- 59:34a trash. Conversation.
- 59:36He's got an ERA in the postseason north of six, I
- 59:38believe, and a WHIP near 1.5. Not ideal.
- 59:45My list. You just say right now though.
- 59:51I know, but his, his, his, his postseason numbers are just so
- 59:54bad that I just can't even ignore them.
- 59:58You would know. And, and yes, I, I did say right
- 1:00:02now, but I'm like, you can take those kinds of things into
- 1:00:05account, but I'm just saying like, pretend like as it's as if
- 1:00:09the season ended today, like if it, if, if we're going right
- 1:00:12now, this very moment, who are you giving the ball to?
- 1:00:15OK, OK, here it is. You ready?
- 1:00:17My final three final answer for $1,000,000.
- 1:00:22Because that's what this is worth, right?
- 1:00:25If you get the list right, you win $1,000,000.
- 1:00:27I thought that's, I thought that's, I thought I saw that as
- 1:00:29in the in the fine print. Give me Zach Wheeler, give me
- 1:00:33Terex, Google, give me Dylan. Cease those 3 right now.
- 1:00:39Let's go. Explain to me your Dylan CS pick
- 1:00:41here briefly before we get to my list.
- 1:00:45I don't have any explanation for it.
- 1:00:47Is there something? Well, well, choking aside, I I
- 1:00:52was. I was running through a list of
- 1:00:53names too, and that name it. Is up and down a little bit it.
- 1:00:55Piqued my interest a little bit, but is there a guy 'cause you
- 1:01:00and I are are both like big make the pick from the gut kind of
- 1:01:04guys like we there's there's has to be something there.
- 1:01:08I don't know if if Dylan sees for me has that it factor for me
- 1:01:16at least he he may very well have whatever it is, but in
- 1:01:22terms of a top three, I don't know if he's making that list
- 1:01:27for me. Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:01:32Three is 3 is a tough spot, but I think I did win the $1,000,000
- 1:01:35so. I don't know.
- 1:01:38I'm from my list. I'm taking Zach Wheeler and just
- 1:01:44based on how he pitches in the second-half alone, respectable
- 1:01:47playoff numbers, I looked him up just to.
- 1:01:49Confirm Snelly. Snelly.
- 1:01:50Blake Snell and you ready for this for no other reason.
- 1:02:00I mean, the fact he's he's fantastic pitcher, but he's got
- 1:02:05that. I'm going to shove it up for the
- 1:02:09rear mentality I think. I know this answer.
- 1:02:12Who do you think I'm going with? Native ALDI.
- 1:02:14Not even close. No.
- 1:02:16Name We've already touched on this episode.
- 1:02:19I'm giving the ball to Paul schemes.
- 1:02:21Really. You want to talk about, you want
- 1:02:25to talk about a kid that is so just here, none of this, none of
- 1:02:32this just here for no other for for no reason other than that
- 1:02:38I'm giving the ball to Paul Skeens because the guy that
- 1:02:42mentally he just seems dialed in.
- 1:02:45Like he does not give up a pitch.
- 1:02:49He does not roll over for a single pitch.
- 1:02:52He has dialed in every single pitch.
- 1:02:55That's what you're going with lastly here, self-control.
- 1:03:01We're going to limit ourselves to the backyard baseball talk.
- 1:03:03We're going to keep it minimal here before we get out of here
- 1:03:05because I know you got to get going.
- 1:03:09Remind me again you you're not a big backyard baseball guy,
- 1:03:14right? No, I love backyard baseball.
- 1:03:18We've talked about this before. I thought you said you hadn't.
- 1:03:20You hadn't played it necessarily a whole bunch.
- 1:03:24I don't, Yeah, no, like I don't have like the computer game.
- 1:03:27I don't have the disk. I don't even know where you can
- 1:03:30play it now. No, I'm saying like.
- 1:03:32Best of it on my. Yeah.
- 1:03:33Well, I mean, I played it at your house.
- 1:03:35We never had a computer, so I had to go to your house.
- 1:03:37True. But you but you're you're like
- 1:03:41familiar with no. Oh, I know what it was because I
- 1:03:43think, I think one of the offseason episodes we did.
- 1:03:46We oh, you said like, let's like draft a yes.
- 1:03:49That's what it was. I don't know if I could pull
- 1:03:51that. Out.
- 1:03:52I don't know if I'm really familiar with with the guy with
- 1:03:54the. The enough of that.
- 1:03:55Players on the list, yeah, let me just say I am I mean, I kind
- 1:04:02of already alluded to it right off the jump, but I am so
- 1:04:07pumped. Give me the.
- 1:04:08Details I need to know more. Where can I access this?
- 1:04:11Is it an app? Do I need to go get something
- 1:04:14I'm guessing? I mean, I think it's going to be
- 1:04:16available on computer. I think it's going to be
- 1:04:19basically any platform. I would think it's going to be
- 1:04:23available, like they're going to repurpose it, reformat it,
- 1:04:25whatever they got to do to make it playable.
- 1:04:27On supposed to play similar to the way it used to play, right?
- 1:04:30That's the key because if you you may not remember this, but
- 1:04:33they there for a minute. Once the the classic backyard
- 1:04:37sports fell off, they went into like the 3D characters and it
- 1:04:41just was trash. But they have they have eluded
- 1:04:45or they have made it clear rather that when they revived
- 1:04:48this the franchise again, they're going back to like the
- 1:04:5190s, early 2000s feel which is going to be.
- 1:04:54Perfect. 90% sure I've got my Game Boy right here.
- 1:04:59Hang on, hang tight. Just I just found it and I think
- 1:05:02I have the Game Boy game. I'm going well, well, he does
- 1:05:06that. I'm going to continue my
- 1:05:09thoughts on the matter. So I need to know.
- 1:05:15I need to know as soon like if as soon as somebody finds out or
- 1:05:19or or hears one way or another, whether or not open it up, find
- 1:05:25out or let me let me know if you got it.
- 1:05:29I just on the floor just breaks into shatters into 1000 pieces.
- 1:05:33I I need hold on. I got to finish my thought.
- 1:05:37I need to know if you if we're going to be able to play like
- 1:05:41online. If you can play backyard
- 1:05:44baseball online game over It's done.
- 1:05:47It's a wrap. You will never see me again.
- 1:05:53Because if if if you can play backyard baseball online on the
- 1:05:58switch. As I mentioned, proud owner of a
- 1:06:00switch. Now I'm out, I'm you'll never
- 1:06:05see me again. I'll never see the light of day.
- 1:06:07It's over. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3.
- 1:06:12You got the backyard baseball though, I.
- 1:06:14Don't know it could be in the Game Boy so please hold.
- 1:06:17I got lotion fingers right now so.
- 1:06:21Let's just leave it at that. I don't need any clarification
- 1:06:24or. Super Mario Bros.
- 1:06:26That's a big. There you go.
- 1:06:27That's a classic. It's not in here.
- 1:06:32Someone took it, someone stole it for sure.
- 1:06:35I don't No, hold on. Oh, OK.
- 1:06:38It's an SPI. Was going to say I don't think
- 1:06:40if that was a color they it didn't get introduced until the
- 1:06:43Advance Game Boy Advance. I think I, I think I took it
- 1:06:47from somebody. I don't know.
- 1:06:49That's crazy. I swore I had it.
- 1:06:53It's really disappointing. Now it's like $800.00 on eBay
- 1:06:56fine, I'm sure. Just kind of a random thought
- 1:07:01here. I did put out a tweet the other
- 1:07:04day of my top nine in backyard baseball.
- 1:07:07It's up for debate. I mean, it's, it's really not a
- 1:07:09debate. I think I pretty much nailed
- 1:07:11this top nine and no, well, actually it is in particular
- 1:07:15order. I got Pablo Sanchez as my top
- 1:07:17pick going Pete Wheeler #2 Keisha Phillips #3 for the BOP.
- 1:07:24She Keisha, Yeah, She dropped bombs.
- 1:07:27She. Could mash Achmed Khan for the
- 1:07:30same reason? I'm very offensive oriented in
- 1:07:32backyard baseball, as you should be for people.
- 1:07:34I got to I got to have a short up defense.
- 1:07:37What are you talking about? Yeah.
- 1:07:39Nobody cares about defense and backyard baseball.
- 1:07:41Yeah. Achmed Khan, Mikey Thomas at 5.
- 1:07:44Josinda Smith at six. This is where I'm lost, you
- 1:07:47know, I don't remember. Mikey Thomas had that telephone
- 1:07:50pole of a bat, if you recall, just mashed nuke after nuke
- 1:07:56after nuke. And then he'd have, I think he
- 1:07:58had like a snot bubble was like, his thing was kind of weird.
- 1:08:01Oh yeah, that does. That does ring bells.
- 1:08:04Kind of kind of wild. Josinda Smith 6, Stephanie
- 1:08:07Morgan at 7, Amir Khan, Achman's brother at 8.
- 1:08:11And on the bump, I've got Angela Delvecchio.
- 1:08:17I don't hate that. I don't know a lot of it, but I
- 1:08:20don't hate it. I can't wait, I cannot wait.
- 1:08:28Do you got to get out of here? I got to go, all right.
- 1:08:33We're important places to be, important people to see.
- 1:08:37Not that important, actually. It's just the work thing.
- 1:08:40I won $1,000,000 today. That's big news.
- 1:08:43I'd like to thank obviously my parents, a big part of it, and
- 1:08:48all the research that I put in today.
- 1:08:50So don't go to station curveballs, you know.
- 1:08:55Weekend series watch check out the Astros versus the O's good
- 1:08:58pitching matchups, decent pitching matchups.
- 1:09:00I'll even be there hopefully on Saturday.
- 1:09:02So if you're going to be in Baltimore, let me know and I'll
- 1:09:05I'll most likely be at the game on Saturday versus the Strohs.
- 1:09:09We love you all and as always, looking forward to talking more
- 1:09:11baseball with you guys soon. Until next time, stay filthy.
