- 0:27However, after Maghrib, what we want to do is try to understand
- 0:30Imam al Hussain better, build marafa with our Imaba, not just
- 0:34Imam al Hussain, our living Imam, Imam al Mahdi, Ajal, Allah
- 0:37Allah Faraj al Sharif. So in today's episode we want to
- 0:41explore Ashura and the message of Ashura not just as an
- 0:45historical event but a lifetime school of Fort Insha'allah.
- 0:50This means we want to explore and understand what was the
- 0:52mission behind Imam Al Hussein, what's the relationship and the
- 0:56connection between Saptor Rasul and the Promised 1, the awaited
- 1:031, Imam Al Mehdi, Ajal Allah Al Farid Al Sharif.
- 1:07At the same time, understanding the men and women who joined
- 1:11Imam Al Hussein, the companions, the Ansar a little more with
- 1:14more depth. Now I always say I can't have
- 1:16these conversations alone. I always introduce Ahmed.

- 1:50Now back to the episode Ahmed. Ali from Salaam.
- 2:04How you doing bro? I'm OK Al Hamdulam, I'm excited
- 2:07for today's episode. Thanks for all for the
- 2:10introduction. We also run Sisters.
- 2:12You will have noticed that me and Said Ali are generally very
- 2:16well dressed men, you know, Handler and today is no
- 2:20different. And we didn't just
- 2:22coincidentally wear the same T-shirt.
- 2:23I think this is the first episode of Brad Sisters where we
- 2:27are introducing our new merch line, the rising Flag edition,
- 2:31where we are wearing oversized Tees where which kind of allows
- 2:35you to feel confident in wearing Shia merchandise anywhere.
- 2:39To be honest. I wore it to work and my
- 2:42colleague said where did you get that tee?
- 2:44I told him it's our brand bro. He said, there's no way.
- 2:47So the fact that you know what, Subhanallah, this is a true
- 2:50story. Yesterday I was at the mosque
- 2:52and a brother came to me and he said to me, I wore the shirt on
- 2:57the train. No, in a cafe.
- 2:59He said in central London. A guy behind him told him, where
- 3:05did you get that shirt? What is after marketing?
- 3:08He says it's a podcast. He says, oh, the podcast after
- 3:11marketing because I thought so he goes I listen to after
- 3:13marketing as well. And he asked him, do you know
- 3:17Ahmed and said Ali And it turned out that he actually was in
- 3:20front of Ashiya brother who also tunes in to a shout out to them
- 3:23both. But yeah, guys, you can go on
- 3:26the website aftermarket.com. Make sure you use the code echo.
- 3:29That's ECHO for 10% off your order and in shot Allah, you can
- 3:33get one of the T-shirts which you can see in front of us as
- 3:36well as a bottle as well. Now, brother, sisters, let's
- 3:39crack on the conversation said Ali mentioned it.
- 3:42There's always lessons to be learned to draw parallels
- 3:44between the past and the present, and of course the
- 3:47future as well. We say Salaam alaid Hussein,
- 3:51Allah alaibnal Hussein, Allah Alaid Hussein, what Allah
- 3:54hassahab al Hussein, and Allah has set somewhat of a hierarchy
- 3:58in that formula for us. So to kind of understand the
- 4:01imam, we have to understand that entire statement in totality.
- 4:06Today Inshallah, we will do that by understanding some of the
- 4:08companions as well and their masculinity, their their kind of
- 4:12personalities and ways in which we can take from them to also
- 4:15then become inshallah and Saad Al Mehdi Arjala
- 4:18Taalafalajeshwari, without further ado, it gives me great
- 4:21pride and honour to introduce our guest scholar for today,
- 4:24Sheikh Nabil Awan Salam Alaikum Sheikh Nah, how's it going?
- 4:28Hamdallah good. Thank you so much for being
- 4:31here, Sheikh. Where do, where do we begin?
- 4:34You are a man and a scholar of many talents.
- 4:39For those of us who know you are extremely.
- 4:45What's the weather I'm looking for?
- 4:48I'd say I'd say you're definitely someone I wouldn't
- 4:50want to cross paths with in a street fight.
- 4:54You are black belt in Wing Chun if I'm not mistaken.
- 5:00I'm going to be careful with questions.
- 5:03Have you ever, have you ever been in a situation where in a
- 5:06medulist someone has challenged you?
- 5:07You've had to kind of straighten them out?
- 5:09No, no. No, no, no.
- 5:11I think, I think my size puts most people off anyway.
- 5:14But yeah, we've done some sparring after after the the
- 5:20Medulist, sometimes some brothers.
- 5:22But yeah, so I hope. Surely we could pick up some
- 5:25some tips and of course, for those of I'm sure we all know,
- 5:28Sheikh of course is is born and raised in the UK.
- 5:30He's now in Saskatoon in Canada. Saskatoon.
- 5:34In Edmonton, Yeah. Apologies.
- 5:36Were you in Saskatoon? No, I don't know where I got
- 5:39that from. Edmonton, rather How's how's
- 5:43life over there? The dubious.
- 5:45It's good. It's good once you get over the
- 5:47the winter and realize, you know -50 ain't that bad?
- 5:50Oh. My God.
- 5:51Or then, I mean, that's once a 11 week of the year, but after
- 5:55that it's sort of hovers around -20 to -30 for a good part of
- 6:01the year. Wow.
- 6:01So how are you coping? Because it's hot right now in
- 6:04London. Yeah, it's very hot.
- 6:07No, Hamdallah, it's just good to be good to be home.
- 6:12Yeah. Hamdallah, let's get stuck in
- 6:15with your permission. We're kind of at a junction
- 6:19right now, a transitionary phase between post Arshad Blues and
- 6:23reflection. And of course the build up the
- 6:24excitement for Albert in at this time.
- 6:28I think the momentum for a lot of brothers and sisters is up
- 6:32and down. I think the the progress and
- 6:35spirituality some of us may have had may not be as strong as it
- 6:39was a few weeks ago. And at the same time, for anyone
- 6:41who's looking forward to travelling, if they have the
- 6:44blessing to go for Zia to Arbain in Iraq, there's an element of
- 6:48excitement. But at this point in time, where
- 6:52should we be? What should we be thinking of?
- 6:56How is kind of the best way for us to continue the momentum in
- 6:59these between these two amazing and and obviously very heavy
- 7:03periods? I think that the first thing is
- 7:08that one has to contemplate over the the 1st 10 days the the
- 7:13Arafah, they speak about this Barb of risk of sustenance that
- 7:19opens unto the world from the first time Muharram until the
- 7:22day of Ashura. And I always ask people this
- 7:26question is what did you gain from Imam Al Hussein in the 1st
- 7:2910 nights? Because you know the Imam, he
- 7:32occupies a unique position in all of existence from amongst
- 7:38the aim as well. You know, from the turbah of
- 7:41Imam Al Hussein being Shafa to you know, all of your daughters
- 7:46being accepted under the the Dome of about Abdullah to being
- 7:51the door of gender. So you're so much can be gained
- 7:56from the door of Imam Al Hussein.
- 7:58Did I spend the 1st 10 nights and this is what people should
- 8:01be thinking about? Did I spend the 1st 10 nights
- 8:03just going through the motions? I got black clothes.
- 8:07I went to the Medulis, I sat there, I cried, I did all of
- 8:12this is admirable, by the way. Like there's the anyone who just
- 8:16did that handle that they have gained.
- 8:18But to be able to actually analyze that.
- 8:22What did I gain? You know, so a lot of times we
- 8:25just sort of, I, I, I asked people who go to Ziara like what
- 8:28did Imam Hussein give you? Now, what did you ask from Imam
- 8:33Hussein? And so in the 1st 10 nights or
- 8:36in this period after, we have to contemplate that what did this
- 8:41saga of love do to me? How has it changed me?
- 8:46Am I exactly the same as I was from the first time I had them?
- 8:49Or can I tangibly say there is something that I've learnt,
- 8:53something that I've changed in my life?
- 8:55And that's where we need to be contemplating before the next
- 8:59door of Rezk opens. I mean this whole period of two
- 9:03months and eight days that some mourn for, this whole period
- 9:08that there is something available to you.
- 9:10But when it reaches like for example, Arbaeen again, again
- 9:14another one, those specific Barb of rescue will open.
- 9:17So what am I doing to be able to receive what is about to come to
- 9:23me in the days of Arbaeen? Now, very beautifully said, it's
- 9:27a nice reflection to share actually, because I think we all
- 9:30in many ways think like that at times.
- 9:31Even growing up, maybe not now, but growing up.
- 9:34I remember like back in the day, I can go back.
- 9:36I don't know, I'm 34 now, so I should think, you know, I should
- 9:40rise over what's next. But I never knew what's next.
- 9:43I never searched for what's next.
- 9:45I didn't ask the questions. What's the panel?
- 9:47Over the last few years, I've been wanting to know more.
- 9:51I've been wanting to know specifically.
- 9:54We We said said, let's let's do do a a theme theme here here in
- 9:55in the the podcast podcast and and it it was was from from
- 9:57muharram Muharram al Al Safa Safa. where was the top heed in
- 10:00karbala like there are so many things that we can derive from
- 10:04the battle itself before the battle and after the battle and
- 10:07it's a whole new world I mean there's so much conversations
- 10:10that we can have but I think something that I think that will
- 10:12allow us to understand the objectives of imam al Hussein
- 10:17beyond the Aza beyond the martyrdom and the battle is what
- 10:20was the key objectives of the imam because I mean, there's so
- 10:09much conversations that we can have, but I think something that
- 10:11I think that will allow us to understand the objectives of
- 10:16Imam Al Hussein beyond the Aza, beyond the martyrdom and the
- 10:19battle is what was the key objectives of the Imam Because
- 10:23there was definitely a reason for him to go there.
- 10:25And many do ask, why was he in Karbala?
- 10:27Why did he take his family? Like what was the objectives?
- 10:31Some say it's only a slur, some say, no, he was there to beef
- 10:36the oppressors. But I'm sure there was a godly
- 10:39mission behind. I don't know if you want to shed
- 10:41some light on the show that we can kiss kick start
- 10:43conversation. Yeah, I mean, all you have to do
- 10:45really is try and understand when it comes to anyone's
- 10:50objectives, you have to look at their words.
- 10:53What is it that they're they're saying?
- 10:55What is it that they they set out as their mission statement?
- 11:00And so you haven't a number of different statements that the
- 11:05Imam made, letters that he left, letters that he sent, starting
- 11:10with the first one, which he leaves with Muhammad Hanafiyah
- 11:13and Medina, when Namaharajtullah, Talibal,
- 11:16Aslahfi, Ummathi Jeti, straight away it's telling us something
- 11:21and that something is that there's something wrong.
- 11:24Yeah, because you only do aslah, you only reform something that
- 11:29was good at one point but now has been lost.
- 11:34So what is it that's broken that the Imam is going out to reform
- 11:40the second we go to the letter that he sends to the people of
- 11:43Basra. So he said sends it to the heads
- 11:46of the tribes of Basra. And he says to them, like, aside
- 11:52from the, you know, the intro, the outro or whatever, but the
- 11:55main bulk of it is Allah in the Sunnah.
- 12:00The the Sunnah of the Prophet has been killed and innovation
- 12:05has become rife in society. So now we've got a second, the
- 12:10second piece of this puzzle that there is some sort of Sunnah of
- 12:16the Prophet that has been killed and an innovation has been
- 12:20introduced into this society that is forcing the grandson of
- 12:23the Prophet to leave the comfort of Medina and leave his home and
- 12:30take his family with him. And then you go to the letter
- 12:34that he sends to the people of Kufa with Muslim.
- 12:39And again, you know, the intro of I received your letters and
- 12:43all of that. And again, there is a whole
- 12:44discussion on the types of letters that were sent and the
- 12:48tone of those letters. But you know, it's not within
- 12:51the remit of this. But the imam after saying all of
- 12:56this, he says something very key, says fella Emily Iman
- 13:00illela AMI Louisville kitab. So he says none is the Imam
- 13:05except for the one that orders from the book of God.
- 13:09OK who follows the religion who establishes justice, Wahhabi sun
- 13:14nafsuo Allah that Allah and he annihilates his self for the
- 13:19sake of Allah. So now here the Imam is telling
- 13:23us that a true leader is the one that has these qualities.
- 13:28So from this we can deduce that the whole reason for it is that
- 13:33there has been some sort of paradigm shift in society that
- 13:37has forced the Imam Khalafat or Imamat turned to Khalafat,
- 13:41Khalafat to monarchy. You know, Mahavir is handing it
- 13:44over to Yazid, an individual like Yazid who the Imam himself,
- 13:51when he's with Waleed, he tells him, he says, look, you know
- 13:56when he says we are the albeit of Nahu, albeit Nabua, we're the
- 14:02alibait of prophethood. We are the household of
- 14:05prophethood. We are the the maiden rahma.
- 14:10We're the place where the mercy of God resides.
- 14:14One more telephone Malaika and with us to us come the angels
- 14:19constantly Binar fatahalawa, binar khatam.
- 14:23And with us God began everything and with us God will end it.
- 14:27And on the other side is Yazid Sharib Al Ahram.
- 14:31You know, he's a open, a drunkard, a person who kills the
- 14:35innocent, you know, he, he all of this.
- 14:38And then he says a person like me could never debate to a
- 14:41person like him. So this is what's broken in
- 14:44society. But the lesson here, yes, what
- 14:47is underpinning all of this is divinity is the the drive
- 14:52towards Touhid and the Imam himself is on his own journey
- 14:56towards Fanaa and he says it multiple times in in his last
- 15:00poem before he rides out. So Ilahi talked to Khalaqatar
- 15:05Renfi Hawaka where he turned to Aya Lilika Araka when Kapatani
- 15:10bill hubby Araben eraba Limani for Adu in a siwaka.
- 15:14My Lord have left the hold of creation for your sake.
- 15:17I've often my children so that I may see you, and even if the
- 15:20swords were to come and cut me to pieces, my heart would turn
- 15:24to none but you. So the true message of it is
- 15:28underlined with this godly purpose.
- 15:31But at the same time, the lesson for us is that although you may
- 15:35have godly purpose doesn't mean that you sit like a hermit and
- 15:39don't care about your community. There are times when you need to
- 15:43rise and bring about Reform I. Said, I said sure, what do we
- 15:48even say after that Subhanallah 1 introduction.
- 15:50You know these the, the, what we talk about the Osola Dean and
- 15:55kind of the tenets that you see in Karbala.
- 15:56You can see everything. The whole of Islam can be found
- 16:00in Karbala Dorheid from everything you've just mentioned
- 16:03the the Imam's godliness and his his devotion to Allah Spanatala
- 16:07and his entire being and his decisions and his intents and
- 16:11every step he took and in every word he uttered.
- 16:15In terms of Adalah we see Allah Subhanallah's divine justice
- 16:19through how Imam Hussein's mission reformed society truly
- 16:23then until now. And of course the divine justice
- 16:26we will see through the avenger of Imam Hussein Aliyah Salah to
- 16:29Salaam in the arrival of the Imam of our time.
- 16:32I'm sahib alas Zaman. In Nabua we see Imam al Mehta
- 16:36Aswad at the Lambia, the inheritor of the Prophets, who
- 16:39who personified and manifested all of the qualities of the Azam
- 16:43and kind of the, the idol of Kasan, brought that to the
- 16:47plains of Karbala. And then Imama Hajj Talaf al
- 16:50Arab on the plains of Karbala, they challenged him, they
- 16:53questioned his Imama, they opposed his Imama, but it was
- 16:56never in doubt until his very last breath.
- 16:58And then of course, in the akara we see the Qayama, we see how
- 17:02Imam Hussein is. Miss Pahlahuda was Safina
- 17:05Tanaja. He will be our arc of salvation,
- 17:07our beacon of guidance to lead us to Jannah, insha'allah.
- 17:11So I truly believe one of my own reflections in these last few
- 17:14weeks is that everything in Islam can be found in Karbala.
- 17:17We often get asked that question, why do you guys care
- 17:20so much about Imam Hussein? It's for that very reason that
- 17:23everything we need, whether it's Salah, we can see Imam Hussein
- 17:27on the day of Al Shahra. If it's the Quran, you can see
- 17:29Imam Hussein in his camp the night before the battle, his,
- 17:33his camp humming like a beehive. And all of these qualities point
- 17:37us back to the Imam's mission. I just want to ask about a
- 17:40specific incident because you mentioned, for example, the
- 17:42letters that he sent to Kufa and Basra.
- 17:44And there's one of the somewhat of a companion that we, we, we
- 17:49never really hear about is a man by the name of Yazidi bin
- 17:52Masoud, who is, as, as you'll know, Sheikh is the tribal
- 17:56leader in bus life, I'm not mistaken at the time.
- 17:58And he gathered all of the, the tribes, three specific tribes at
- 18:01the time, and he managed to muster two of those tribes to
- 18:05give an army in support of the Holy Imam.
- 18:08And he went lobbying from house to house.
- 18:10And he was very influential at the time, a tribal leader, a man
- 18:15of nobility and, and, and kind of influence in the in, in his
- 18:19Aishira and also generally in society.
- 18:21By the time, of course, he was ready to depart, he received the
- 18:24news of the Imam's martyrdom. Ali Salaam.
- 18:27I just want to ask specifically on that note, because there were
- 18:30people who were committed, albeit few.
- 18:33Some of them were perhaps imprisoned.
- 18:36Some of them were too far to make it.
- 18:38Some arrived and arrived too late, perhaps.
- 18:40And then of course, we hear all the time about the betrayal of
- 18:43the Shia Kufa somewhere you mentioned.
- 18:46Kufa we know is a Garrison town, predominantly as a Sunnah with a
- 18:51minority but a strong minority of those who are loyal to a
- 18:54minimum Munini AI Islam. At the time, what was kind of
- 18:57the political climate such that the Imam only had a handful of
- 19:01companions that even some of those companions that he took
- 19:03with them were companions that he picked up along the way, if
- 19:07that, like the likes of Zaheer McClain, for example.
- 19:12In KUFA specifically or in the? In general the climate like how
- 19:15did it get to a point where you could have 30,000 against a
- 19:19minority at least of 72? This started way back.
- 19:25I mean, it starts from the time of arguably you could say, I
- 19:30mean, Kufa was established during the time of the second
- 19:32Khalifa and it grew into this huge metropolis.
- 19:38And you know, they, they call it Seydul Amfar and like it has all
- 19:43of these titles. But then during the time of
- 19:46Muawiyah, there is this mass exodus, either imprisonment of
- 19:51the Shias, banishment of the Shias and the Shias leaving
- 19:54themselves because of the, the situation.
- 19:58So a lot of the times when there's that claim of the Shias,
- 20:01but actually the true Shias either in prison or they've left
- 20:03or, you know, they and those that were truly loyal, they made
- 20:07their way and they reached Imam Hussein in Karbala.
- 20:13But yet there was this element of like fear in the in the in
- 20:19the society, there was a fear that was created.
- 20:22Even Ziad created fear even in Basara.
- 20:25He was in Basara before he came to Kufa.
- 20:28Yeah. And so the the, the companion
- 20:31who brings that letter to the people of Basara, he kills them
- 20:33in the end, you know. And so he the, there is this
- 20:39fear amongst the, the so-called, I guess the people who were in
- 20:46the middle loved Imam Al Hussein and everything like that.
- 20:50But then there was this element of fear or this environment of
- 20:54fear that had been spread across everyone.
- 20:56Nobody wanted to rock the boat. Nobody wanted to raise their
- 21:01voice against oppression. Nobody wanted to say anything
- 21:05for fear of imprisonment, for fear of being cancelled in
- 21:09today's terms. Right.
- 21:11And so you history is funny. It repeats itself over and over.
- 21:16Yeah. Well, Adi tells Haritha
- 21:19Hamadani. He says the name.
- 21:20Yeah. Harith history repeats.
- 21:23The actors change. Yeah, I'm paraphrasing.
- 21:26The actors change, but the themes remain the same.
- 21:30And that's why Ali says I studied the people of the past
- 21:33and their works and their books and their life and their times,
- 21:37because as if I had lived amongst them because of this
- 21:41fact that the themes of history repeat.
- 21:44And so even for us today, where now we find that there's more of
- 21:49a environment of fear being created to speak about how how
- 21:55many people are actually going to put their head above the
- 21:59parapet to say something. That's proper deep behind.
- 22:03When you think about that, it makes us question where are we
- 22:06today because we see similar scenarios, circumstances,
- 22:10situations and Shala, we are standing on the right side of
- 22:13history. And if we're not, there's a
- 22:14problem. There's a huge problem if we
- 22:16call ourselves Hosseini, you know, call ourselves, you know,
- 22:19lovers of the maiden Mutmani and Ali Salaam Ali Abiabi Taleb.
- 22:23But you know, if we just come back to the companions, the
- 22:27answer of Imam and Hossein, you know, we've heard so many
- 22:30stories, Schechner, many of us in Charlotte, we have the
- 22:33opportunity we should read into their lives because you realize
- 22:37they didn't just wake up and said, yeah, I'm joining Imam
- 22:40Hussein. No, there was so many things
- 22:42that led them towards this, be it their devotion, be it their
- 22:46liar to the Imam, be it the matter of their Imam.
- 22:48There was so many factors that allowed them to join about
- 22:53Abdullah Al Hussein say they showed up.
- 22:55What I want to understand is that look, Al Hamdallah,
- 23:00inshallah, we are all taking part in active interval and we
- 23:03know that the Imam is coming and we know that there's going to be
- 23:07promised justice that will take place on this earth.
- 23:09But in reality, if we know he's coming and we all believe in
- 23:14this concept of the Raja and I can go on and, you know, build
- 23:19the question how I wanted to be, but I'm going to make it as
- 23:21simple as possible. How can I ensure that I can be
- 23:25like the companions of Imam and Hussein Alayhi Salaam towards my
- 23:29Imam today? Because if I wake up tomorrow
- 23:32and the Imam is here today, maybe too late for me, maybe too
- 23:36late for those listening. How do we ensure that we can be
- 23:39like Borreir and Zuhair and Habib and John and Wahab and all
- 23:44the less lesser known companions?
- 23:46How can we be like them for our Imam?
- 23:49She did. It's interesting because like
- 23:54some of these companions, they joined Imam like at the last
- 23:59minute. Habib, OK, he's part of the
- 24:01short total. You know, he has the Elm of
- 24:05Banaya al Balaya. Yeah, Muslim women also just
- 24:08there from the start. But then you have like someone
- 24:12like her. Like I when I when I look at
- 24:18these different companions, I say, OK, wait, I don't know if I
- 24:23can be Habib or Muslim movement outsidger, but you know Yabba
- 24:29Abdullah or Yamamazaran. I maybe can be a bit like
- 24:34horror. Now what is the defining factor
- 24:37in horror journey? When he grabs hold of the reins
- 24:42of the horse of the Imam and Imam says may your mother sit at
- 24:47your funeral and cry. Now sometimes what it is that
- 24:52the Hajja and the one that is taking you to God has to shake
- 24:56you away and so this shakes her. And what does he say?
- 25:02Had it been anyone else that had said this, I would have replied
- 25:05in kind. But your mother is Fatima to
- 25:08Zahara. See that speck of adeb that he
- 25:13had towards the would you the father to Zahara Alayhi Salaam
- 25:17was the reason for her ascent that the Imam woke it in him.
- 25:25So there was some element of like adeb that he had this adeb
- 25:30disrespect go to Zohair. Zohair was fighting against Emir
- 25:35Al Mahmudin and Sukhfin on the other side.
- 25:38Shimmer is fighting with Imam Ali.
- 25:41Yeah, but Zohair is on the other side.
- 25:45And the whole time when Zohair leaves, he sees the caravan.
- 25:47Imam Hussein. And he says to himself, you
- 25:49know, I realized Hussein, I had heard some rumours.
- 25:52I wanted nothing to do with his campaign.
- 25:55So wherever he is, caravan would stop.
- 25:59I would go ahead and then if he was going ahead, I would stop.
- 26:04And this carried on for a few days until I was forced to camp
- 26:07at the same place. And then he's sitting with his
- 26:11family members in his tent and someone comes to the the curtain
- 26:19of the tent, says it's the messenger of Imam Hussein, says
- 26:23Imam Hussein has requested an audience with you.
- 26:27Zohane says tell him I'll be there shortly.
- 26:30I'm, you know, once I finish up here.
- 26:32He says no, Imam Hussein is already standing outside the
- 26:37any. You know what we say in the ZR
- 26:39of the Imam of our time, Kareem in Oladil Kiram.
- 26:43Yeah, that magnanimity of the Hajj of Allah is something we
- 26:46can't comprehend, says Imam Hussein is standing outside
- 26:50Zohane. He starts thinking like his wife
- 26:57Dullahan. She tells us, oh hey, what are
- 27:00you doing? The son of Rasool Allah is
- 27:03calling you. What are you waiting for?
- 27:06This. As a side note, spouse is very
- 27:09important on your journey. When you look for your spouse,
- 27:13make sure you're looking for that willaya, that someone that
- 27:17will teach you and show you adeb of the Hajjah of Allah.
- 27:22Look for that willaya. So then Zoheid goes, now history
- 27:27doesn't write what Imam Al Hussain said to Zoheid.
- 27:30His family members say when he returned, it was as if Noor was
- 27:35dripping from the face of Zoheid.
- 27:37And he says to his wife, look, I will divorce you.
- 27:39You return back to Kufa, take my family members with you.
- 27:44So Zohair, what about you, says me.
- 27:47I'm going with ABBA Abdullah. And then when he's on the day of
- 27:51Ashura, they say, Zohair, we thought you were of the Othmani
- 27:55Motherhab says I was, he says. But now I've come to ABBA
- 27:59Abdullah. See Zohair again.
- 28:02A lifetime of sin. But even then he still had quite
- 28:07an opportunity. There are two companions whom we
- 28:12don't hear about very often. They're the last, the last two.
- 28:20This is even after the shahadat of Ali Al Nasr, he's, he's been
- 28:25martyred, Imam Hussein for the last time, says Helman Nasser.
- 28:30One last time. And two brothers, they look at
- 28:34each other. So what have we done?
- 28:37And they ride across SA Aden, Abu Habboth, the Rafari
- 28:41brothers. Now what is interesting about
- 28:45these two is that they were part of the army of Imam Ali and
- 28:49Sufin. They formed, they broke away
- 28:54with the Khawaj, they fought against Emir Al Mukmini in
- 28:58Nahrawan, and they are of the handful of people that survived
- 29:04the Battle of Nahrawan. And now they find themselves in
- 29:07Karbala. And now you understand what Imam
- 29:10Ali told Malik and Sifin that Malik, you're killing and my
- 29:13killing are two different things.
- 29:15I look down into the lineage of a person and find even one more
- 29:19men and I spare them. Yeah.
- 29:22Now these two, now they're coming to Imam Hussein just
- 29:24before us. There's no one says we were
- 29:28there. We watched as your Abbas was
- 29:30killed. You Akbar was killed.
- 29:32You, Ali Asbar was killed. Is there any, any forgiveness
- 29:35for us? Imam says now that you've come
- 29:38to Hussein, it's all forgiven. And they said so, then give us
- 29:42permission to go out and fight. Imam says go, they turn around
- 29:45and they ride out. They fight.
- 29:48They killed. And today their names are
- 29:49amongst the Shahada. I mean this is the beauty of
- 29:52say, the shahada, the Orafa. They speak about this jasp, the
- 29:57magnetism of the Hajja. You just have to try truly with
- 30:04a pure heart to turn towards the Hodja.
- 30:07Once you enter that magnetic field, the Hodja himself will
- 30:11take you towards success. That's what Imam has saying.
- 30:15He concludes the letter to the people of Basara.
- 30:19He says into TO Emery what does Mao Pauli?
- 30:22I had become Sabila. Rashad says that you listen to
- 30:25what I have to say, obey my commands, I'll take you towards
- 30:28success. And so there's so many of these
- 30:32different companions that we don't really hear about their
- 30:34stories as such. But on on the other side, there
- 30:38are those who are good. For example, there's one called
- 30:41Teremma. He meets Imam saying full of
- 30:43Shia. Imam says come join.
- 30:46He has his friends with him. He says, Yabna Rasullah, we're
- 30:50here, we're going to join you. 3 or 4 of them, they join Imam
- 30:53Hussein Teremma, he says. But Yabna Rasullah, I just need
- 30:58to rush back to Kufa. I just need to make sure my
- 31:03family is good and I'm coming back and I'll join you.
- 31:07Imam says to him, says to him that then be quick, be quick,
- 31:13come back quick, don't miss your opportunity.
- 31:17And he goes. But when he returns, it's too
- 31:19late. The Imam has already been
- 31:22killed. But those companions that were
- 31:23with him, they achieved Shahadat, see, and that's the
- 31:27second coin. 2nd, a piece of that puzzle.
- 31:33The 1st is having Adeb in front of the Hodja.
- 31:38The second is complete to slim in front of the Hodja.
- 31:42That to where the Hodja is telling you to go.
- 31:47There is no my opinion and my family and my work and might
- 31:51know he's going somewhere. You follow, everything is lost.
- 32:00This is that transcendence that you find in Karbala amongst some
- 32:08of the amongst all of the companions in fact, but some you
- 32:12see it in it's really profound. Abu Sibni, Shabibi Shakiri, he's
- 32:18one of the companions of the Imam.
- 32:21He comes with his servant. Shut up.
- 32:24But they it was a family servant, but they they were
- 32:27around the same age, so they grew up as friends On the night
- 32:32of Ashura obvious says to show them.
- 32:35He says to him show them everyone here they have someone
- 32:40who they want, they will sacrifice for Imam Al Hussain
- 32:43tomorrow. He says but I don't have anyone.
- 32:47The closest thing I have and the dearest thing to me in this
- 32:50world after the Imam is you. He says will you be my sacrifice
- 32:56tomorrow? He says yes.
- 32:58So Shazib goes, he's martyred. Then Abyss goes, now this is the
- 33:04transcendence here. Abyss goes.
- 33:08He takes off his armour. He throws it aside, lift offs,
- 33:11lifts off his helmet, throws it aside, no sword.
- 33:15He walks out. They shout to him.
- 33:19They say to him, Abyss, have you gone mad?
- 33:23He says yes. Hebbal Hussain Ajilneni Since
- 33:26the love of Hussein has driven me mad, this is a transcendence.
- 33:30Now where See, there are stages in this transcendence.
- 33:34Transcendence. There is Ishq at the lowest
- 33:37level. This is an infatuation which
- 33:40many of us have. I love the Imam, I'll I love the
- 33:43Imam. I'll cry for the Imam, I'll
- 33:45attend the medges, I'll do everything.
- 33:47But do I live my life the way that the Imam wants me to live?
- 33:51Maybe not. Then there's a level above it,
- 33:54intellect, where I intellectually understand the
- 33:57concept of the Imam. And then now my crying turns to
- 34:00Bukha. And when I cry and I do Bukha at
- 34:03this level, I wail for the imam at this level, Wajibet, the
- 34:06whole gender. Gender becomes wajib.
- 34:08This is with the intellect Arafan Behati.
- 34:11But then there's a level above it where now no intellect can
- 34:16comprehend your your mindset. Alama Iqbal, the philosopher,
- 34:23Pakistani philosopher, poet, he has a line, he says a poem when
- 34:28he says without any fear, love jumped into the fire of Nimrud.
- 34:39Abel Ham Mahabi Tama Shahi Labi Bam ABI intellect is still
- 34:43standing upon the rooftop, contemplating whether or not to
- 34:47go. But Raheem Ali, his arm
- 34:50transcended to that realm, knew my Lord will never leave me
- 34:53alone, and now was in absolute Ishq.
- 34:56These individuals in Karbala in absolute ishq, Now Abis come
- 35:00out, no armor, nothing on his body, Absolute Ishq.
- 35:03The world is saying, Abis, have you gone mad?
- 35:06And Abis is saying no, This is the truth, this is reality.
- 35:11In the end, they stone him to death, but again, he was an
- 35:13adult. You go to others in the
- 35:16MacArthur who are not named. Some in some of the MacArthur.
- 35:19This young boy, 11 years old, Abdullah Ibn Jonada, he's named
- 35:23his father Jonada Tubnik Kaab was just killed.
- 35:26He was one of the veterans of Safin and he came to Karbala and
- 35:29he's killed in Karbala. His mother, his wife is with
- 35:32him. The now Abdullah bin Jonada
- 35:34comes to Imam Hussein. Do you give me permission to go
- 35:36out and fight? And the Imam says, look, your
- 35:40father has already given his life.
- 35:42You don't need to go. Go to be with your mother.
- 35:45Your mother needs you. He says, yeah, Imam, the mother,
- 35:50my mother herself has sent me to you.
- 35:53Now I've told you his name, but many of them are cartel.
- 35:56They don't give his name. But this boy's transcendence,
- 36:00look at it. Every other person that went out
- 36:03recited poetry. They introduced themselves.
- 36:06Ali Akwa introduced himself. Basim introduced himself.
- 36:10But this boy, he goes out and history has just written his
- 36:15poem, a poem that probably everyone, every viewer at home
- 36:19has heard. Maybe they don't know who said
- 36:21it. Maybe they think that some poet
- 36:24wrote it. But actually it's this 11 year
- 36:26old boy in Caterpillar, Amiri Hussein.
- 36:28No one there, Amir. He doesn't say who he is, says
- 36:32Amiri Hussein. If you want to know who I am,
- 36:35then just know that Hussein is my master.
- 36:37And what a great master he is. Sururu for Adil Bashir and Nadir
- 36:41Ali Anwar Fatima Walida Nadir says that if you want to know
- 36:47who I forget me, Hussein is my master.
- 36:50That's all that matters. And what greater virtue is this
- 36:53than this? Ali and Fatima are his parents.
- 36:57He's a piece of the heart. He's the piece of the heart of
- 37:00the prophet. What greater virtue than this is
- 37:03there as you see these individuals that are there, that
- 37:06are not that known, but yet their transcendence is what
- 37:11makes them immortal. I'm questioning.
- 37:24Well, what do you even say after that?
- 37:26It's story after story after story.
- 37:29And these were real men and they dedicated themselves for the
- 37:33Imam. And whether it was at the
- 37:34beginning or whether it was towards the end, they were those
- 37:36who gave their entire being. And as you said, they've moved
- 37:40towards fun and complete annihilation of themselves for
- 37:44the sake of Allah and for the sake of the Imam of their time.
- 37:47And I think that's that's what really gets to me.
- 37:50Something you mentioned earlier about Zahedim and pain and the
- 37:53Imam coming to him strikes me, really strikes me why?
- 37:59It's because I feel like the Imam, Ali Salam, on so many
- 38:03occasions wants to give them every opportunity.
- 38:07And this is something we realize the more we hear and read into
- 38:11it, that on every opportunity, the Imam wanted complete
- 38:13visibility and he wanted to be in their faces to show them who
- 38:19he was, the mukam of who he was and also the innocence of him as
- 38:23well. Whether it's the Imam coming to
- 38:25Zahar or whether it's, for example, him asking for that one
- 38:29extra night, We know, of course, and said Ali heard me say this
- 38:32over the weekend to him. But had the Imam fought on the
- 38:36night of or on the 9th of Ashura, he would have been in a
- 38:39much better position. He would have faced less
- 38:42soldiers. Of course, we know now, Heidi,
- 38:44thousands came on the morning of the 10th.
- 38:46He would have been less thirsty. His camp and his companions
- 38:49would have been less thirsty and less tired.
- 38:52He would have been more perhaps energized to go and do as much
- 38:57damage as possible to the enemies.
- 38:59At the same time, when he asked asks Abu father Alayh Salaam to
- 39:03request the extra night. He says it's for Salah and he
- 39:05says it's for he says I love my Salah and I love that line.
- 39:09And then the visibility of him. And we said earlier, his camp
- 39:13humming like a beehive. He wanted them to hear what are
- 39:16they doing on the night of Ashura before their battle,
- 39:19before the certainty of death. Had he not asked for that night,
- 39:23we wouldn't have had hot as an example.
- 39:26We would have said hot that Natala Ali, you know, instead of
- 39:29praising him, he would have gone down in history as one of those
- 39:32who was responsible for the death of the holy Imam, Alaihi
- 39:36Salaam. And all of these small moments
- 39:38of compassion goes to show that a this is the philosophy of the
- 39:42Imam with the people around him, both those who were beside him
- 39:45and those who were opposed to him.
- 39:47And you would imagine that this is also the same philosophy that
- 39:50the Imam of our time, Imam Slahib Alasim, was a man Al al
- 39:54Sharif would have as well. Is that the case, for example,
- 39:58when we try now and aspire to be on Salah Mehdi, when we say we
- 40:01want to be beside the Imam, we want to be there and show Allah
- 40:04when he comes? Of course, much easier said than
- 40:07done. Like you said, Ishq is one
- 40:08thing, wearing the black, going to the measures, but acting in
- 40:11the way to please the Imam is a whole different dimension of
- 40:14hidman. Service to him, taslim to him
- 40:17and submission to him. How do we firstly get from that
- 40:21stage of Ishq to Taslim and on a second level?
- 40:25How do we even identify what submission to the Imam looks
- 40:29like when he is present but not apparent to us, when we know the
- 40:35stuff from, for example the Dolke art and his letters, but
- 40:39thereafter we don't have much else directly from him?
- 40:42Yeah, there's a really simple, I think, analogy for it.
- 40:52And there's a, there's a great example for it in history as
- 40:55well. I see.
- 40:57When Imam Hussein Ali Salaam is called Safinatu Naja, and then
- 41:01all the imams are known as Saffanon Naja.
- 41:04So when you embark upon an ark, you go where the ark goes.
- 41:10You move at the speed that the ark moves.
- 41:14You slow down where the ark slows down.
- 41:17You turn where the ark turns. You have no opinion and no say
- 41:22in where this ark is going. So if the imams of the ark's So
- 41:29you do what the Imam wants of you.
- 41:31You stop where the Imam wants you to stop.
- 41:34You go where the Imam wants you to go.
- 41:36You slow down where the Imam says slow down.
- 41:39You don't go ahead. You know, in Salawacha, Baniyama
- 41:42Sajadi says that that a little bit, that you are Arks, that
- 41:58saying sail upon unfathomed seas.
- 42:01The one who believes in you is saved.
- 42:03Like the one who went ahead of you was lost.
- 42:06The one who stayed too far behind you was destroyed.
- 42:09But the one that stayed with you every single step of the way was
- 42:12reunited with you. Yeah.
- 42:14So wherever they want you to go, you go.
- 42:16Whatever you they want you to do, you do.
- 42:19And your Nafs will fight you for it.
- 42:22But that's where you have to tame it and you have to bring it
- 42:26into your control. And you know what?
- 42:29The example I want to give you from history is Salman.
- 42:33What made Salman minna a little bit.
- 42:37It wasn't the fact that Salman just obeyed everything Emir Al
- 42:40Mukminin did or told him to do. And no, Salman changed his
- 42:47desires to match the desires of Emir Al Mukmini.
- 42:50Whatever Ali liked, Salman made sure that he liked it.
- 42:54And whatever Ali hated, Salman made sure he hated it.
- 42:57Salman. There was nothing left of
- 43:00Salman. He just was lost in the Imam.
- 43:04And thus he became midnight a little bit.
- 43:08And so the simple solution is, see what it is that your Imam
- 43:13wants from you, and then go and follow exactly that way where he
- 43:18wants you to stop, where he wants you to go fast, the way he
- 43:21wants you to slow down. How do we know that I mean quite
- 43:26strength and a symbol of though people look, I I appreciate that
- 43:29matter of the Imam by our time is hard and it's also a journey.
- 43:33It's an upward hill, upward slope.
- 43:35But for those of us who are and for the listeners and for those
- 43:40who are struggling to even understand the Imam, come to
- 43:44terms with the labour, come to terms with how to give something
- 43:48to the Imam in this period of the labour.
- 43:50Of course, we know that labour can be sweet for those in the
- 43:53period of labour, as if even our hadith says, even if as if the
- 43:57Imam were here today, it would feel like that for us, for those
- 44:00who are fully committed to him. But how do we know if we are in
- 44:04tandem with his motion or if we're going too far ahead or too
- 44:07far behind? You have to know the Imam,
- 44:10right? You have to know what the Imam
- 44:11says, what the previous Imams have said, OK, we don't have
- 44:14much from the Imam of our time, but the previous imams, we have
- 44:18over 200 years worth of, you know, hadith and sayings.
- 44:22And then the Holy Prophet is the ultimate model.
- 44:26And so you, you look at that and you read, you understand, you
- 44:30know, it is not enough right now that my only source of knowledge
- 44:38is the member. Sent.
- 44:40That that is not enough. I get on the member and I
- 44:43present for 45 minutes to an hour, but that is 6 hours worth
- 44:47of study for every lecture that I present in 45, two minutes to
- 44:51an hour. I can't give you 6 hours of what
- 44:55I've done in the background. And So what that means is that
- 44:58if we're just the community of 45 minutes or 55 minutes or an
- 45:04hour or some community even less than that, then there's no way
- 45:08that we're ever going to. We have to dive in to the
- 45:11teachings of Helibate. We have to take classes.
- 45:15We have to find teachers. We have to study.
- 45:21Only then will we truly begin to understand the Maharif of
- 45:24Helibate. Becoming accustomed to the
- 45:26literature and yeah, being being confident in your.
- 45:30Yeah. Your journey of knowledge.
- 45:32Yeah, and then the other thing is like there are certain simple
- 45:35things that you can do, like the 60 mam, he says for Leon Teller.
- 45:42Well, yeah, mill bill, water warmer, house in a clock.
- 45:46Three things then the e-mail says do active in Tevar 2nd do
- 45:52Amal at the level of what are abstain, abstain from certain
- 45:55things, don't rush towards everything and at the levels of
- 45:58abstinence as well. There are certain times when
- 46:00you'll abstain from that which is halal for you that because
- 46:05it's anything it it's taking you to something other than the
- 46:09Imam. And when you're totally funny in
- 46:10the Imam, you just want to be in a gathering where it's just the
- 46:13Imam about the Imam about your Marifer towards your journey
- 46:18towards the Imam, the Marifer of the Imam Marifer of Allah.
- 46:22And then the third thing is 1 Hassan Al Ahlak have be good
- 46:29people, have good manners. Don't backbite about people,
- 46:33don't spread rumors about people.
- 46:35Don't you know, like I hear something about someone and I'm
- 46:39just like, oh, by the way, did you hear this?
- 46:41You know, I'm not just saying, I'm just putting, yeah, don't
- 46:45mess with people's, you know, like as this is, you know, the
- 46:50the hormone of the Mopman is greater than the hormone of the
- 46:54Kaaba. If it's about humiliating A
- 46:56Mopman or bringing down the status of a mopman or destroying
- 46:59the Kaaba, the narrations has destroyed the Kaaba.
- 47:03But you have no right to bring down a Mopman.
- 47:06And for us, these things are so easy.
- 47:09Like we don't care. We will destroy the personality
- 47:13of someone on the basis of what? Something that I heard from
- 47:18someone or something dubious I heard or some forwarded text or
- 47:22some, you know, like why? Yeah.
- 47:25So the Mahasen and Akhlaq, that's really important, just
- 47:30being. Good moral people.
- 47:33That's beautiful tips And you know, just this point on Akhlaq.
- 47:38I think it's like the the main be all and and all, not just
- 47:41with Marfa or the Imam, but to live your life.
- 47:44We speak about, you know, being Muslims and we look up to
- 47:48Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi, Hawaii Wasallam as the ultimate
- 47:51role model. He was the mercy to mankind and
- 47:55someone who came to perfect Ahlak mannerism around the
- 47:57world. And something that really sticks
- 48:00with me is that, and I've I've mentioned this a few times over
- 48:03the podcast as well as that Ahlak, I think don't just show
- 48:07who you are, but allows others to understand who are the people
- 48:12that you look up to? Because when we come across
- 48:14these narrations that say Kuna Zain and Lena be a good
- 48:18adornment for us, if we don't have the best of luck, we're
- 48:21going to have a give a bad image to to whom?
- 48:23To the Anil baiting themself because how much times Ahmed and
- 48:26let's be real, between let's say friends, we come across members
- 48:31of the community. They look at someone who doesn't
- 48:34have the best of manners. Let's say look what his religion
- 48:36teachers. How much times have you become a
- 48:39person and and it's scary when you think about it because it
- 48:41doesn't just affect the community, it will go beyond it
- 48:43will affect your children one day.
- 48:44It will affect your relationship between your own spouse, your
- 48:47your parents, your siblings. But you know.
- 48:50Yeah, that's that's not like a masculine thing to do as well,
- 48:52like forget, I mean, even in terms of putting the archaeology
- 48:56or something, the Wyatt as well. It's not an attractive or an
- 49:00appealing quality normal to have.
- 49:02Like when you see that in someone and you're in a
- 49:03gathering and people are spreading gossip and rumours and
- 49:06did you hear about this guy or did you know this guys dad did
- 49:11this or brother did that and what do I care?
- 49:13Like we grow up and we grow this, you know, this issue of
- 49:17masculinity is a creeping and deepening issue in our community
- 49:22and specifically amongst our youth and those who are
- 49:25approaching the age from Balul, they're approaching marriage.
- 49:28And of course, the tabiya from the parents play such an
- 49:31incredibly important role in this, you know, especially in a
- 49:35worsening society that we live in.
- 49:37And at the same time, we have a Walt like a secular world, which
- 49:42idolises superheroes in pop culture for reality.
- 49:45We have here today, we've heard about how many superheroes, you
- 49:49know, actual superheroes to look up to people of all ilks and
- 49:52backgrounds. And we look at the superheroes
- 49:54in Marvel and DC, the, the, the, how do we learn about their
- 49:58personality? They all have their own traits,
- 49:59their characteristics, their different forms, shapes and
- 50:02sizes, backgrounds, cultures, demographics, languages.
- 50:05It's the same in Karbala. It's the same.
- 50:07It's exactly the same. How is it any different?
- 50:09But these are real life, real life characters, real life men
- 50:14and women who stood tall and they stood in the face of
- 50:17oppression. They didn't give in.
- 50:19You know, there's, there's companions.
- 50:20Even until their last breath when they were lying on the
- 50:24floor, they would still reach for a dagger to do inflict as
- 50:28much pain on the enemies of of the Imam, the soldiers of
- 50:32Shaitaan as much as possible. And that I think, in my opinion,
- 50:36a lot of this comes back to what's in their heart and
- 50:39compassion for the Imam as well as their qualities of
- 50:41masculinity. Share on on that particular
- 50:44point on masculinity. If I can ask, especially through
- 50:48because look, you've, you've had interactions with probably
- 50:52hundreds of of shit arts centres and communities around the world
- 50:55in the last couple of decades. But especially from your
- 50:59interactions with young men today, do you feel like
- 51:03masculinity is an issue? And what advice would you have
- 51:08for us both as young men and also those who are younger than
- 51:12us, who are growing up and trying to understand how to
- 51:16become a real man in today's day and age?
- 51:20I think the the basis of masculinity, it comes from a
- 51:26khlaq, but also Adeb. Adeb is etiquettes.
- 51:32A khlaq is Manus. Adeb is etiquettes.
- 51:35A khlaq tells you don't back by don't do this.
- 51:38Adeb tells you this is how you sit in the company of people,
- 51:42this is how you interact with certain individuals.
- 51:45You know, Imam Ali, he says Al Adebu and Yakif Al Insan in the
- 51:49Hadde says that adeb etiquettes are that an individual
- 51:53understands their boundaries and stays within their boundaries.
- 51:58I am the son to my father. I'm not my father's father.
- 52:02I'm not at his level, you understand.
- 52:05So understanding adeb, that's really important, having things
- 52:11like erea, you know, having that this, this is a terrible
- 52:17translation. But this honorable jealousy, you
- 52:19know, over, over the, the, the, the maharams in your in your
- 52:25life, you find it in the, in the life of say the Shohadah, right?
- 52:29And while Hussein in Nahi, the Imam says that when you fell to
- 52:34the ground, to the Rutarfan Hafi and Ilarahlika Vivek, you know,
- 52:38even though you were lying that the only concern that say the
- 52:41Shohadah had from the corner of his eye, he was fixed.
- 52:45His focus was on the tense of Zainab anum khudfum.
- 52:49That's that's all his focus, his fear when when he falls
- 52:54unconscious at the body of Ali Akbar, because the state of the
- 52:57body of Ali Akbar is such plus losing Ali Akbar for Qatar, who
- 53:01besieged for him urban Erba, they mutilated his body so badly
- 53:06that the Imam, he falls unconscious at the body of Ali
- 53:09Akbar. Zainab comes out from the tents,
- 53:11according to Maktal of SI Divinity Tawos Lauf, she comes
- 53:15running out from the tents to the body of Ali Akbar to aide
- 53:20Mahmud Hussain. Mahmud Hussain hearing the voice
- 53:22of Zainab. Not while I'm still alive.
- 53:25And he forgets Ali Akbar, he forgets everything and he takes
- 53:29Zainab, Ali Hasalam back towards the tents.
- 53:32That that reader. That's one aspect.
- 53:35The other aspect is, you know, like men have become soft, like
- 53:41these people that you look up to in Karbala, you know, you hear
- 53:45about Basim and hear, oh, he killed this many people or this
- 53:48way Ali Akbar and stuff like that.
- 53:50You know, they, there was a there was a regime they were
- 53:53following Abbas Ali Salaam from the young age.
- 53:56Like there was training, they were training, you know, they
- 54:00were learning to fight, they were learning how to defend
- 54:03themselves, all of that, you know, the martial arts and stuff
- 54:06like that. You know, they it wasn't that
- 54:09they magically came on the day of Ashura and all of a sudden
- 54:12were able to wield swords and there was years of training.
- 54:15So there's like this physical aspect to the masculinity that
- 54:19we've lost where you got kids sitting for hours upon hours on,
- 54:23you know, with the headsets on playing, you know, God knows
- 54:26what, and parents are just letting them play whatever Haram
- 54:30game, you know, like, Oh yeah, someone once told me, Oh, my
- 54:33shallow, you know, I brought my my son GTAA lady because he
- 54:37would kept complete. I said, sister, do you know
- 54:39what? What's in GTA like?
- 54:42Like what are you, you know, And so there's that aspect, that
- 54:47physical aspect has gone and then you can't alongside the,
- 54:52the, the Physiology or along with it, because this has a big
- 54:57part to play with our masculinity, You know,
- 55:01especially when levels of testosterone, you know, we, we
- 55:05don't really pay much attention to it after the age of 40 as
- 55:08your testosterone starts to fall off or as you're younger right
- 55:11now with the amount of microplastics that are in the,
- 55:13in the food chain, you know, we, we don't really care about those
- 55:17sort of things, what we're putting in our stomach.
- 55:19When you look at the lives of the adult baits, you look at,
- 55:22you know, there is this aspect of Ehlat adeb diet training, you
- 55:27know, these, these are really important.
- 55:29You can't just like, you know, discount them and just be like,
- 55:32I'm just going to pray all the time and that that will that's
- 55:35going to make my make me a man. You know, like there has to be
- 55:39an aspect of physically putting yourself under strain, like
- 55:45learning these crap. And then when you do that and
- 55:48you know, there's plenty of research and I won't turn it
- 55:49into a a discussion on testosterone and like gym and I
- 55:54don't want to tell, but but you know, it's really important.
- 56:01Like you look at the lives of these individuals and they have
- 56:05these characteristics. The physical is so important.
- 56:11You know, I mean what we mean. What is he saying?
- 56:13The Aqua Domitica Jawadi give me the strength of my limb so that
- 56:18I can do your headma. If I can't, I go to massage it
- 56:22now. And I see people who are in
- 56:25their mid 30s, bad backs, bad hips.
- 56:28They they've got no core strength.
- 56:30They can't sit up, you know, They're sitting on a chair.
- 56:33They can't sit on the ground. They can't hold their torso up.
- 56:35They can't, you know, do any sort of manual work.
- 56:38I'm getting tired, you know? No, like amongst the Sierra of
- 56:43the Halil Beta, I think Salaam is hard work.
- 56:46The imams had their own farms. They would till their own land.
- 56:49They would physically work. Plus there was this whole regime
- 56:53of training, archery, sword fighting, all of the horse
- 56:56riding, all of these, you know, the transferable skills that you
- 57:00know. This cannot be discounted.
- 57:04It is necessary for young men who want to develop that
- 57:10manliness and alongside it, you know that akhlaq and adeb so you
- 57:15don't end up with toxic masculinity, but alongside, you
- 57:20know that adeb and you and the akhlaq.
- 57:23And then you have men who are men.
- 57:26They don't say this out because I hear it so much now.
- 57:29Oh, you know, Chef, never. We.
- 57:31I'm talking to a guy and he's saying to me, yeah, he's ready
- 57:35to get married to me, but he wants to go 5050 on all the
- 57:37bills. He wants to go 5050 on the No.
- 57:41What are you talking about? Ain't nothing to do.
- 57:44No. That's your job as a man, you
- 57:47know? Oh, my, my husband has, you
- 57:49know, I have to raise the kids. And no, Ted BIA of the Olad is
- 57:53the responsibility of the father.
- 57:56You guide and together you go, yeah, but why is it that most of
- 58:00our women are being forced to do that?
- 58:03We're like, no, I'm going out to work.
- 58:04You, you raise them at home. But actually, when you look at
- 58:07the hadith that we have Ted BIA of the Olad, development of the
- 58:11child, training your child is, is the father's responsibility.
- 58:15It falls on the father's neck. Yeah.
- 58:17So you're the masculinity isn't just like one thing, of course.
- 58:21There's like a multifaceted that you you want to develop the
- 58:26right man, the perfect man. And obviously the perfect in
- 58:30Sound of Carmel is Emilio Mutmanin.
- 58:33That same Ali that is fierce in the battlefield and the lady,
- 58:38some metony ummi haidara, that same Ali Yatamal maloud, Yatamal
- 58:43maloud tamal mullis Salim, you know, in the Mehrabi's writhing
- 58:48and shaking like a man bitten by a venomous snake.
- 58:50The wailing and crying. That same Ali is sitting on the
- 58:54ground playing with the orphans of Kufa Subhan Allah and that
- 58:58same. Ali is walking the streets.
- 59:01With with a bag of food on his back trying to look for someone
- 59:05poor that same Ali is actively out looking for those that are
- 59:10downtrodden in society. Someone said to me, Ali, why did
- 59:13you give this man so much money? Well, he says he's going to form
- 59:17a habit. Imam Ali says be quiet.
- 59:19I went looking for him. I stand here looking for people.
- 59:24I don't wait for people to come to me.
- 59:25I go this is this is all part of that masculinity because for
- 59:30that to to have that level, you need to Shah his sad like this,
- 59:34this expansion of the chest to be able to deal with the trials
- 59:38and the difficulties of life and still be resilient enough to go
- 59:43forward. That's that's a man.
- 59:48Is that a man that can go again? And yes, there are times when
- 59:52we're weak and we fall, but you know, that's where your friends
- 59:57are there. Your family is there to lift you
- 59:59up. We have that task.
- 1:00:01But you know, most of the time it's not about not showing my
- 1:00:05emotions, not being no. But you know, there is an
- 1:00:09element of have some strength about you.
- 1:00:11You know, have some strength about you.
- 1:00:13It's not the end of the world. You still have God above you.
- 1:00:16I sent him. I sent him, Chef, my love, bless
- 1:00:19you. I feel like we have about three
- 1:00:22more podcasts we need to do with you.
- 1:00:25Like, yeah, we. Need to do this.
- 1:00:27We need to do this. We need to do this Charlotte
- 1:00:28soon. If you would allow us and if
- 1:00:30you'd grace us with the return and Charlotte one day, we we
- 1:00:34would be honoured. And I'm.
- 1:00:35Extremely. Grateful to you, as I know said
- 1:00:36islands as well for being here with us and I know you are
- 1:00:42extremely busy. I remember seeing your schedule
- 1:00:45during your time in the UK and we asked our last one.
- 1:00:47I'd like to give you more toll fiq allow you always to continue
- 1:00:50in the service of the Azad Beta Ahim of Salaam and towards
- 1:00:54inshallah building communities where we can be better men and
- 1:00:57women, where we can learn from our history and prepare for our
- 1:01:00future as well. Inshallah.
- 1:01:02Schechner, last comment or question for you if, if you will
- 1:01:07and if you don't mind if there's one message you could give to
- 1:01:09people at home, especially in the next couple of weeks and in
- 1:01:13the build up to Albain, any message you would have for
- 1:01:16people who are struggling to kind of develop that that
- 1:01:19momentum once again and and kind of how important the maqam of
- 1:01:24Albain is for us to look forward to.
- 1:01:28Yeah. I think the the more than
- 1:01:36anything foster tears, you know, because people often say, you
- 1:01:44know, what is the sort of sign that my, my daughter is being
- 1:01:50accepted, my Ziara, my Salaam, all of this.
- 1:01:52When I go to kind of the sign of it is the tears that fall from
- 1:01:57your eyes that the Imam is replying to you that the Imam
- 1:02:00has his attention towards you. And sometimes we can't cry.
- 1:02:05Some people, they just they don't cry.
- 1:02:09You can be in the will see, but and that's because of the
- 1:02:12hardness that's developed in the hearts through sin, through
- 1:02:16whatever it is. And if you find yourself distant
- 1:02:19from the Imam, then sit down and just talk to him.
- 1:02:23Talk to the Imam of our time. Talk to Imam and Hussain and say
- 1:02:26to them that you know, I'm not as hard.
- 1:02:32It came so late. At least from the start I've
- 1:02:35been, I've claimed, at least I've claimed that I love you.
- 1:02:39Zahev spent a lifetime on the opposite side.
- 1:02:44And it just took one moment. And so I just said to the imam
- 1:02:48and I said to everyone, just sit and talk to the imam and just
- 1:02:52ask him just for a moment, pull me into your magnetic field.
- 1:02:55And then when ABBA Abdullah pulls you in, you know he'll
- 1:03:01he'll hold on to your coattails. Sorry.
- 1:03:04You'll hold on to his coattails and he'll take you to where it
- 1:03:08is that you need to go. But you just have to have that
- 1:03:11purity of intention. And when you say it with the
- 1:03:14purest of intention and those tears fall, you'll see that the
- 1:03:19doors will begin to open up for you.
- 1:03:23Beautiful. Beautiful and truly.
- 1:03:25Tears do wonders. I've seen it happen around me
- 1:03:28and sometimes I've experienced these myself.
- 1:03:31Yani, if we can shed tears for Abdullah, it's a blessing.
- 1:03:34And Charlotte, these tears never stop because what are they?
- 1:03:37Soften their hearts. They allow us often to turn back
- 1:03:40towards a loss upon which we go left and right in our lives.
- 1:03:42But beautiful advice. And Charlotte, for those of you
- 1:03:45who haven't booked so go for the Ziyar of Arbine, please make
- 1:03:48that intention so that you have that matter for not just doing
- 1:03:51Ziyar from afar, but being there close to the Imam physically
- 1:03:55next to us cover. And there's so much, you know,
- 1:03:57emphasis on the Ziyar and this become and the status of doing
- 1:04:00Ziyar of Imam Hussein in Karbala.
- 1:04:03I've come across this narration which you touched upon earlier
- 1:04:06on Zara Hussein Arafa, Bihar Bazar.
- 1:04:10Allah actually imagine that is like huge.
- 1:04:14That's not something small. So just an encouragement shot.
- 1:04:16That was a beautiful encouragement for us to build
- 1:04:18Marafa with the Imam. And yeah, back to you.
- 1:04:20Thank you so much once again, Sheikh.
