- 0:01Hello, folks, this is Princess, you are listening to the
- 0:04millennial Mustard Seed, pod casts.
- 0:06Thanks for listening. Don't forget to share with your
- 0:09friends. Then people start to get
- 0:17weapons, they start to get armor, they start to build
- 0:18cities they still supported by their cities.
- 0:20Now God looks down and there's violence everywhere.
- 0:24The battle this war that we are at is not against each other.
- 0:28It's against these principalities in these rulers
- 0:31in, these are cons in the high places.
- 0:33It's really worthwhile to read the Bible yourself, fear is one
- 0:37of the primary drivers of mind control because We have to take
- 0:41every thought captive and resist.
- 0:47Your going to have a testimony that is a Justice case against
- 0:52the kingdom of darkness. Welcome back to the show.
- 1:07I got an awesome episode in store for you guys.
- 1:11This is ease of edification, I got microns in here, he is a
- 1:15media production guy. He works with a company in New
- 1:18York City, but you lives in Reading PA, we actually did this
- 1:22interview in person at Grace Church, right?
- 1:24Outside of the city of reading. It was an awesome interview.
- 1:28He's a younger guy, he's got a degree.
- 1:30Ian law, he studied criminal justice and you just really has
- 1:34a heart to serve the Lord and get the community involved.
- 1:40It's a really cool conversation about a half an hour long, it's
- 1:42edifying and for as young as Mike is surprisingly, he's got a
- 1:47lot of wisdom of really wanted to honor him just by having them
- 1:50on the show. And just saying, man, I see the
- 1:53younger generation, I see you guys.
- 1:55God sees you guys, you're important.
- 1:57You have valium at with all that being said, That I am ready to
- 2:02jump into this episode. Are you guys ready for some ease
- 2:06of edification? Hey y'all, this is Michael Lanza
- 2:28with the millennial, Mustard Seed, pod cast.
- 2:30He's a edification and that was a dope intro.
- 2:34Mike, it's a pleasure to have you here with me.
- 2:37You're doing some really great things that I would like to some
- 2:40highlight it. And that's why we're here man
- 2:42just kind of chopping it up and encouraging each other.
- 2:45Tell us a little bit about yourself what you're doing right
- 2:48now and kind of how God has directed you into the positions
- 2:51of roles that you're currently. Yeah not for having me for more
- 2:56context on the production director here at Grace Church,
- 3:00in chilling. PA.
- 3:02I have a interesting way of how God's kind of led me to the
- 3:06positions. I'm in graduate high school,
- 3:09went to college for criminal justice kind of like halfway
- 3:12through criminal justice. I had some media production
- 3:16classes that I was taking ended up falling in love with it took
- 3:20the classes and did what I had to do to basically have my
- 3:23digital media marketing major and digital Communications minor
- 3:28assumed the role production director here.
- 3:30At the church. I handle all social media and
- 3:34production elements on a Sunday morning and then and then I do
- 3:38freelance for a production company out of New York.
- 3:42So yeah, that's where I'm at right now.
- 3:44And yeah, I'm excited to kind of see how God leads leads me in
- 3:49the future. I think it's so cool.
- 3:52How we start with this direction we want to go and it morphs over
- 3:56time. The spirit of the Lord leads,
- 3:59those who are the sons of God. He Rex our steps, right?
- 4:03You're representing a generation of younger people and your story
- 4:08and voice needs to be heard. So what you're doing at Grace
- 4:11Church? Why don't you give us?
- 4:12A quick rundown of what the Young Adult Ministry groups look
- 4:16like and like some of the, like, the venue's you guys have been
- 4:19putting together. I know we have listeners in the
- 4:21reading area and I'm really hoping that somebody will get
- 4:24connected through this episode and be a part of all the future
- 4:28things that you guys have going on.
- 4:29Yeah. Yeah, I guess I shoulda
- 4:31mentioned. Also here, I volunteer, as a
- 4:34young adult leader, we run, what we call Grace groups here at the
- 4:38church and it's just a time for a group of people to get
- 4:41together meet once a week. Usually were discussing and the
- 4:45message from a Sunday, that's kind of how it started to kind
- 4:48of morphed into, you know, its own Ministry, where we kind of
- 4:50dive into more deeper deeper topics deeper conversations.
- 4:54A lot of times will bring up a topic that that, you know, we've
- 4:58done. We bring Is to to kind of
- 5:01highlight different things in people's lives and then
- 5:04ultimately open up the floor for people to discuss and kind of
- 5:08give, you know, their background in a certain area or topic and
- 5:13its really opened up to be a, it's a safe space that people
- 5:17feel comfortable to to kind of share in.
- 5:20We currently meet every other Sunday.
- 5:23Sunday nights from 6:00 to 7:30 gear at the church.
- 5:27And yeah we try to host different serve opportunities.
- 5:30We were actually down Down to Opportunity House, a couple
- 5:32weeks ago, serving lunch. And we'll be down there again,
- 5:36at the end of February to serve lunch again for the residents
- 5:39there. Yeah, so we're trying to get
- 5:41plugged into the community, doing more serving opportunities
- 5:44being the hands and feet as we are called to be, we have
- 5:47different events. We try to do a little bit of
- 5:50fundraising events because you know, some things do cost to
- 5:54supply needs for people. We actually had a car show here
- 5:57back in October and we have plans to do more More
- 6:01fundraisers to kind of give back into the community.
- 6:05We're just trying to, you know, be active in.
- 6:07You know, what's going on here at the church?
- 6:09You know, separately with what goes on in the community and
- 6:13just trying to be able to be a resource to not only, you know,
- 6:16people from the outside but be a resource that people are
- 6:20actually within the group and and just creating a safe space
- 6:23for people to be able to share what they're going through.
- 6:26What God's doing in their lives. Yeah.
- 6:28And and what we're finding is like, the more that you allow
- 6:32open floor people. A lot of times feel that Comfort
- 6:35ability to share more about what who ends up going on in the
- 6:39lives and things that people struggle with or things that
- 6:43people are succeeding at and you know, if it's different things
- 6:46like that. As a young man here in Reading
- 6:50Pennsylvania you have this desire to get people connected
- 6:53in the community and when we're called to share the gospel like
- 6:57we're called to go out, but we're also called to make
- 7:00disciples. A lot of people want to see like
- 7:04the entertainment on YouTube where it's like all they want to
- 7:06see a demon cast out or they want to watch all this content
- 7:09on YouTube about Nephilim or whatever.
- 7:12I mean there's all that weird stuff.
- 7:14There's a time and place for that.
- 7:16It's very important that we actually Understand the threads
- 7:19that are in the Bible because God wants us to know those
- 7:21things. But if we are missing the hands
- 7:25and feet aspect of it, We can have knowledge wisdom, we can
- 7:31have Mysteries unfolded. We can speak really well, but if
- 7:35we don't have love, it's all worthless.
- 7:38So for anybody who listens, if you guys are a part of a Young
- 7:41Adult Ministry or attending a church thinking about attending
- 7:44the church, be the hands and feet, wherever you get plugged
- 7:48in, and if you've got a natural gift and calling to stir
- 7:51something up, they get a small group together or just spend
- 7:54time with people, just organically investing with no
- 7:57ulterior motive, Aman. That's where you're going to
- 7:59see. You're positioning yourself for
- 8:01God to move. So Mike, not a lot of people are
- 8:05actually getting married who are younger today when dr.
- 8:08Larry Sanger was on, just a few months ago we covered marriage
- 8:11from a Biblical perspective of one into some areas that I was
- 8:15blown away by what she brought to the table.
- 8:17So talk a little bit about your engaged right now and that's
- 8:20exciting. Yeah, you fall in love and you
- 8:23want to pursue this Godly relationship to just talk a
- 8:26little bit about that. We have mine.
- 8:28My fiancé and I are getting married in early March, so come
- 8:33and more real. Yeah, we met in college and
- 8:36that's where I feel like God's just been leading me.
- 8:39And like a lot of a lot of different people we've discussed
- 8:42about like, oh well like why aren't you using your degree or
- 8:47like, why, you know, why do you feel like you don't have like a
- 8:51full plan yet or we're just kind of going with the flow?
- 8:54I feel like God's like you know, took took me on this journey.
- 8:58Yeah. And you know I am where I am is
- 9:01because I've been so kind of open to what path he's leading
- 9:04me on. But yeah, we met in college in
- 9:07the criminal justice department we were both criminal justice
- 9:09Majors. My position with dating was to
- 9:15not waste anybody's time and so me and her had like a three-hour
- 9:21conversation on the first date kind of going through all of our
- 9:26non-negotiables. Where we were in life, kind of
- 9:30our background and it was, it was pretty funny because she
- 9:36grew up Catholic. And, you know, her family
- 9:39upbringing was, was only, you know, along along those lines.
- 9:43And I get, you know, I was at that point, I was working
- 9:49part-time, my role here at the church, looked a little bit
- 9:52differently, but I was still pretty active serving on a
- 9:57Sunday morning. So I had her come to a Sunday
- 10:01service and, you know, with her Catholic background, it it
- 10:04looked a lot different for her, but yeah, she definitely
- 10:08definitely felt. You know, the pool from God.
- 10:13I would say that first time she lived in Florida in Florida at
- 10:16the time. So we had a three-month period.
- 10:19Where we were with see each other much when she came back
- 10:23over the fall. She played soccer for the school
- 10:27and then we had a transition. With a co-pastor coming on,
- 10:31actually pass. It Rodney, who was was here for
- 10:352020 and 2021 and not me by the way, you guys know.
- 10:40And and I think that whole transition she really got
- 10:44plugged in here at the church and really started to grow, I
- 10:47saw a lot of growth with with her and and I I've walked with,
- 10:54with God, for a good chunk of my life.
- 10:57I've been raised in the church. Church, I've had definitely ups
- 11:00and downs, and and I feel like my biggest growth was growing
- 11:04with her with, with, with our relationship.
- 11:08So yeah, my my voice definitely is, you know, a lot of people
- 11:13talk about equally yoked and you know, being equally yoked is so
- 11:18important. I mean, you guys people, I feel
- 11:21like can as long as God is in your Forefront, even if both of
- 11:26you aren't the quote-unquote Christians, You feel like you're
- 11:30supposed to be or you're not where you're supposed to be yet
- 11:32growing together to get there. I feel like is so much so
- 11:36important as individuals because, yeah, I feel like I
- 11:40definitely was not my best self meeting her, but have grown.
- 11:46A heck of a lot in my spiritual walk with with putting her first
- 11:52and learning, the different Avenues of.
- 11:56You know what dating look like. What engagement life look like,
- 12:01what marriage life is going to look like.
- 12:03And then it's like, you know, just the realism of life in
- 12:10general and like, just a difficulties that come, you
- 12:13know, with living life and then mixing that into into the
- 12:18marriage realm is, is, is very important.
- 12:21So, so, yeah. I yeah, I would just encourage
- 12:25anybody who's, you know, In a similar situation to make sure
- 12:31God is in the Forefront, cuz I feel like we've grown together,
- 12:36but I feel like if we would have pieced together, the things
- 12:38quicker, we would be even even more even more, you know, on
- 12:44fire than we already are. And I've been, I feel like we're
- 12:47we're definitely pushing for for what God has for us being used
- 12:52here at the church being used in the community, you know?
- 12:58Yeah. I mean, even the young adults
- 12:59Ministry. I'm one of my biggest things
- 13:02that I was praying for a while is finding Godly Community
- 13:06inside my own age group. And that was something that that
- 13:09God. I feel like is provided through
- 13:11Grace Church in this Young Adult Ministry that we've kind of,
- 13:14kind of Taken and started and, you know, and getting off the
- 13:20mindset of quantity and pour more into quality and that was
- 13:26and that's something that as the young adult.
- 13:28Street. We've really been purposing to
- 13:30do and we've and I feel like we've grown individually a whole
- 13:35lot and we have open open Realms of communication safe spaces for
- 13:42people to kind of just talk about things that they struggle
- 13:45with the, you know, our daily lives.
- 13:48It's like it's real, it's there. It's like we have, you know,
- 13:52this world is heavily demonic and, you know, evil is prevalent
- 13:58and You know, but you know evils only going to continue if you
- 14:03don't shed the light in it. So it's like you have you have
- 14:06you have all these, you know, different people that are like
- 14:09all. Let's just let's just huddle
- 14:11here and cluster and just talk that's not what we're called to
- 14:14do with call to go out into the world and be the hands.
- 14:18And feet will also be the light and be the thing.
- 14:21It doesn't have to necessarily be where, you know, you're
- 14:23shoving, Jesus down people's throats, being the light.
- 14:26I feel like is enough to To show people that you're different and
- 14:32showing people that you're different.
- 14:33Doesn't mean they they might come to Jesus right then and
- 14:37there A lot of times it does but you know, people have choices in
- 14:42life and I feel when we and I feel like when we stop getting
- 14:45hung up on, Oh, you know, the our mission is to share the
- 14:52word, but it's up to others to receive it.
- 14:56So today, I got home to little tangent there.
- 14:59But you said being equal, yolks that really jumped form you
- 15:03because a lot of the times people want to just get marriage
- 15:06because they feel he's going to answer all the bad dating
- 15:09history of their life. Right.
- 15:10It is like dating a my opinion. I didn't know any.
- 15:13This does I got saved like nine years ago and it's been a long A
- 15:17rough process. But when I was dating, when I
- 15:21was younger, I was really just practicing separation.
- 15:24Yeah, you know, it was like, you just get into this mindset was
- 15:27like, how well I don't like this about this individual, six
- 15:30months into it and so on to the next, right?
- 15:32And that was the this worldly mentality.
- 15:34So really taking a serious approach and being like, hey I
- 15:39want to be equally yoked and do we have the same things in mind
- 15:42as huge amount of opinion? And then what stored up in our
- 15:45hearts is going to flow out of our mouths?
- 15:47I like what we talked about whether we're like on the mic
- 15:49off the mic, just in our conversations like It's going to
- 15:53words. What is in our heart is going to
- 15:54flow? Like, when I was younger, I used
- 15:56to have a lot of conversations that are nothing.
- 15:58Like they are now as a man. No, but I was a boy about like a
- 16:02boy, as a man. I'm thinking, like a man.
- 16:04So here and was flown out of your heart is important to me
- 16:08and some other key things demonstrating.
- 16:11Being the hands and feet. Like, we're not looking to fill
- 16:14the church today or tomorrow when this episode airs, there
- 16:18may be somebody who hears this episode who lives in West
- 16:21Reading or in Douglasville, Pottstown Philadelphia, any of
- 16:24these small, you know, local cities all around the country
- 16:28and they may hear this and in 10 months they may just wake up and
- 16:31be like yo, I'm gonna go up to that church today because
- 16:34something Mike said or Rodney said stuck with me and I just
- 16:38couldn't let it go because it was different than what I was
- 16:40hearing at work. Work.
- 16:41It was different than what I was hearing in the world.
- 16:43It was different than what I was hearing when I went to shoot
- 16:46pool with guys after work and chase tail and none of that
- 16:49brings any completion in my life.
- 16:52We don't always know the ripple effect and that's why this is
- 16:55important, and then you said, Jesus sends us out.
- 16:59Yeah, he sends us out two at a time.
- 17:01You think about a man, and a woman.
- 17:02We leave our parents. We leave our mother, and our
- 17:04father. We cling to our wife.
- 17:06So, we're in marriage, you're already, you're one, but you're
- 17:10too. So when Jesus sent the disciples
- 17:12out, he was like, yo, I'm sending y'all out of two at a
- 17:14time. So like, you never really walk
- 17:16alone and I think that that's like, most man's desire.
- 17:20Like most men were like, First off, we want to be respected,
- 17:23but we want to be loved and seen and recognized.
- 17:28And God gives a wife. And this is talked about.
- 17:33I think his style Solomon says, it may be.
- 17:36No, David says it, huh? One of them.
- 17:38Are you guys know? I'm not good with remembering
- 17:40exactly the name of the book and the person who said it.
- 17:44But I remember the meat of it. He says I found the one who my
- 17:50heart loves. There's a difference between a
- 17:53woman of the world and a wife from the Lord, and he who finds
- 17:58a wife from the Lord finds favor with God, but all of us are in
- 18:03progress. So if anybody is struggling
- 18:06through your marriage right now, you're thinking about getting
- 18:08married, but you're scared because of what you seen your
- 18:10sister go through your cousin. Maybe you've been through,
- 18:12you've been divorced and heartbroken seeking God.
- 18:17First seeking his kingdom will add on to us everything that we
- 18:21need. To do time.
- 18:22I just I'm Blown Away by you know, meeting just getting
- 18:27connected with people all around the world at this point but now
- 18:29locally that was a huge part of like when I met in first talk
- 18:33with you Mike because I was going through a season where I
- 18:38was really lonely, like, I'm podcast, I'm getting hammered,
- 18:42and ways that I don't normally talk about just rejected in
- 18:46certain ways, but I knew God was just tugging me, keep going,
- 18:49don't give up. And when our first conversation
- 18:52we had over the phone, some of the things that we talked about
- 18:55and then just learn in, like, where you were at, what you were
- 18:58doing and where your heart was, that was a wave of encouragement
- 19:02for me. So, everything, you're sharing
- 19:05here today, I know. Resonates with me, personally.
- 19:08I'm edified by hearing you speak.
- 19:11So, let's kind of like, wind down here a little bit.
- 19:14Do you want to tell people where they can find you and just
- 19:17anything that, you know, close this out?
- 19:21What do you think is relevant for the younger generation?
- 19:23The millennial generation older generation to hear, what would
- 19:26be your advice to the body of Christ?
- 19:29Yes, but, I mean, especially for the younger generation, I feel
- 19:32like we are You know, we have this mindset that we're in the
- 19:36shadow of the older generation and especially in a church
- 19:39setting. I feel like you know, we we have
- 19:42a lot to offer the church but I feel like necessarily we feel
- 19:46like oh I can't or I'm not and even as a church you know, the
- 19:52church body as a whole. I mean if there's a you know you
- 19:54I'm sure you have listeners that are, you know, above the young
- 19:56adult a you know, really pouring into the Young Adult Ministry
- 20:00and the Next Generation even student age high school
- 20:03students. It's like all and especially
- 20:05working. I also as a student leader and I
- 20:10see these kids who have potential in their life, but
- 20:13they struggle with the just garbage that's in high schools
- 20:17nowadays. And I feel like, you know, in
- 20:21Our Generations were called to Shepherd, the generation below
- 20:26us. And we know.
- 20:28So I would say, the biggest thing is, if you're in the young
- 20:32adult age and your Or, you know, a struggling.
- 20:35Because for me, it was a struggle for finding Christian
- 20:38Community. It's like I had friends but I
- 20:41wouldn't hang out with them a lot because of the activities,
- 20:44they would get themselves into or the things that they like and
- 20:47enjoy that. I don't enjoy because of being
- 20:50partaking of the world. And so, my biggest prayer for a
- 20:53while was that God show me Christian Community and show me
- 20:56friends that I can put trust into and share you know my life
- 21:01with and you know he's done that.
- 21:03It. He's done that through me,
- 21:06answering a call that he had me, if that makes sense.
- 21:09So like he called Pete, he was like all right.
- 21:12You know, there's people within the church that are here for you
- 21:16but you guys haven't been on that relational aspect yet
- 21:21because there's nothing here to be relational about.
- 21:24So then you know, when we started the group, it started it
- 21:27was rough in the beginning because it's like we've there
- 21:29was a lot of young adults have been coming to this church for a
- 21:31while. But, you know, and this This is
- 21:34what I feel like sometimes happens in the church.
- 21:36It's like come to church on a Sunday.
- 21:38We know there's other people in our age groups that exist but we
- 21:41don't get connected with them. We're not growing spiritually
- 21:45with one another. So when we started the group it
- 21:48was hard to kind of mold what that look like.
- 21:50Because there were so many people that are in this group
- 21:53that, we know each other, but don't know, each other.
- 21:57And then, as time kind of kind of felt, you know, progress, we
- 22:00were like, you know, this group Program, like, you can call it a
- 22:06program, but like the order of like, how this group is
- 22:09operating was in substantial for what we needed as young adults.
- 22:15And then that's when we kind of, you know, dropped off into our
- 22:18own Ministry and kind of pushed into, you know, deeper
- 22:21conversation topics that are specific to us and how they
- 22:25relate to us in the times that we go through.
- 22:28So yeah, I would say, God definitely opened up a whole
- 22:33world. Wind when I saw it to get
- 22:36connected and build something that didn't didn't one point
- 22:42exist. Yeah, so yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 22:45Just, you know, if you're in the, you know, reading Berks
- 22:49County area, were we meet every other Sunday?
- 22:52You can find our website at my grace, church.com young adults,
- 22:57and we have a whole calendar there with the different events
- 23:01in our meeting times and stuff like that.
- 23:03We're we're kind of like what we're in.
- 23:07We did a book study with crazy Faith by Michael Todd, which was
- 23:11a really a really cool, really eye-opening book.
- 23:16And yeah, and we love to just bring different perspectives to
- 23:19the table. It's like, you know, I feel like
- 23:21there isn't, you know there's you know, one God, one father,
- 23:26son, Holy Spirit. Like you other than that there's
- 23:30so many ways of interpreting kind of what God's Speaks to
- 23:34different different people and, you know, different people's
- 23:37experiences have different impacts on people's lives.
- 23:40So and we definitely definitely opened up those realms for for
- 23:46this group and Ministry that we're in.
- 23:48So see if you're in the it's ages, 18 to 30 and we're just
- 23:53looking to connect with one another and continue to grow the
- 23:58relationships. That seems like the world
- 24:01already has the world. Aren't the world are He has
- 24:04these deep connections with one another and people and on and
- 24:07it's funny because it's like we see it.
- 24:09It's like people are willing to put themselves in Risk danger
- 24:12for other people. It can be even with like you
- 24:15know, alcohol drugs sex money. It's like everybody's willing to
- 24:21put themselves in positions that they, you know, it's not, you
- 24:25know that where they're at having to step, you know, stick
- 24:28their neck out for somebody just to get connected.
- 24:30Just feel like they're a part of something.
- 24:32Yeah, there's a better way. So much better ways.
- 24:35And it's like, sometimes it doesn't.
- 24:36And I feel like as a church, we sometimes do a disservice to
- 24:40people because it's like we we are called to be that bridge for
- 24:44one another. And if we're not being that
- 24:47bridge for people, then where are they going to go to get
- 24:50communities? Are going to go to the world
- 24:51because as human beings, we Thrive off of community, God
- 24:55calls us in the Bible to be in community with one.
- 24:58Another grow each other up, sharpen each other, and it's
- 25:01like, if we're not doing that in the church then Are we going to
- 25:04do that at? And and that doesn't even mean
- 25:06the church physical building. Yeah, it's like within the
- 25:10dresslink we are called to be the church.
- 25:13Some people get that Twisted to it's like you know the church
- 25:17building even though yes. Like this is a space that we
- 25:21come we worship. We hear message connect with one
- 25:24another. We are the church.
- 25:27We are what's more important is connecting with people loving
- 25:31one another and as like and The other thing I would also
- 25:34encourage the listeners is to really walk in love.
- 25:37I've had different experiences in my life where love is hard to
- 25:41do sometimes and you know I feel like as God has shifted and is
- 25:47continuing to soften and change my heart.
- 25:49Love just comes out for people that like man, like it was hard
- 25:54to love this person or that person, but I feel like that
- 25:57God's opened up a whole new realm of insight for me.
- 26:01And it kind of Of how how my life supposed to supposed to
- 26:06impact the world. It's been an honor to have you
- 26:11here on the show man, and I love seeing how God is getting this.
- 26:15This Broadband message to men, women all across our country is
- 26:19one time. Yeah, thanks well that's it.
- 26:22That's the show Christianity is not a club.
- 26:26We walk this thing out by faith. It's a lifestyle coming to you
- 26:31from Southeastern Pennsylvania. God Bless America.
- 26:35Goodbye.
