- 0:10Speaker 1: Everybody. Welcome into the Irish Steers Podcast, the podcast for
- 0:14Speaker 1: Pittsburgh Steelers fans on the island of Ireland, eminating to
- 0:18Speaker 1: all of you, not just around the island of Ireland,
- 0:20Speaker 1: but around the world. Michael mcquid, Jimmy English Dialogue McKee
- 0:25Speaker 1: after a stacked week two of the NFL season, coming
- 0:28Speaker 1: to you on a Tuesday, a day or so after
- 0:32Speaker 1: the Steelers go to the Male High City and get
- 0:36Speaker 1: the win over the Denver Broncos. A big win for
- 0:38Speaker 1: the Staeters thirteen to six. Never easy to play in Denver.
- 0:42Speaker 1: I'm sure we'll talk about that in a minute. And Jimmy,
- 0:44Speaker 1: it's great to see you again man. As you said,
- 0:46Speaker 1: it was just before we hit that record button around
- 0:50Speaker 1: twelve days out to this watch party in Croke Park
- 0:53Speaker 1: next weekend, ladsday getting excited. How are you doing.
- 0:56Speaker 2: I'm fantastic, Michael, great to be here, Great to see
- 0:58Speaker 2: you lads. As always was a pleasure talking Steelers football.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I know I say it a lot and I genuinely
- 1:04Speaker 2: do mean it. Look, we have a we have a
- 1:07Speaker 2: one for a platform here to reach Steelers fans, not
- 1:09Speaker 2: only in Ireland, then across the world. A bit of
- 1:13Speaker 2: a buzz after the game last night. Look, we got
- 1:15Speaker 2: the win. It wasn't the prettiest win in the world,
- 1:18Speaker 2: but it was a lot more positive I felt than
- 1:21Speaker 2: the week before against the Falcons that west. We got
- 1:23Speaker 2: a touchdown on the board. And look, I was reading
- 1:26Speaker 2: an article earlier on in Steelers dot com and Steelers
- 1:29Speaker 2: tradition is to win ugly, and that's exactly what we
- 1:31Speaker 2: did last night. It was an ugly, hard fought, blue
- 1:34Speaker 2: collar win. It was fantastic. And look, as you and
- 1:38Speaker 2: I said before, we come on, take take it and run.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Take it and run outs every week. I'll take it
- 1:45Speaker 1: every week. I'm gonna talk about it. I'm gonna talk
- 1:47Speaker 1: about the AFC nor January in the week second. But
- 1:50Speaker 1: like to be sitting here to and O and at
- 1:52Speaker 1: the at a minimum, the team going in the Dublin
- 1:55Speaker 1: week four for this watch party two and one hopefully,
- 1:57Speaker 1: so you know, bread in position to be in.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Brilliant Michael, just that I always said, I'm gonna echo
- 2:04Speaker 3: everything Jimmy says. Typical, hard fought, when Steelers football out
- 2:09Speaker 3: of its absolute finest, you know, to be two O
- 2:12Speaker 3: and two really, let's be honest, really tough away fixtuers
- 2:15Speaker 3: open up the season. I don't think we could have
- 2:17Speaker 3: asked for anything more. Of course, there's still things to
- 2:20Speaker 3: pick out, you know, the offense, particularly in the second half,
- 2:23Speaker 3: you know, weren't flying out of the blocks the first
- 2:25Speaker 3: half I was very happy with. But yeah, just to
- 2:28Speaker 3: back up everything you just above said, you couldn't pick
- 2:31Speaker 3: up a better place to go and win the Danver.
- 2:33Speaker 3: It's a difficult place to go. Although you know, there
- 2:36Speaker 3: was a rookie quarterback. He didn't look great, let's be honest,
- 2:39Speaker 3: but we we sort of put the pressure on them
- 2:41Speaker 3: to force them into someone's deck. So I was really
- 2:44Speaker 3: happy with the performance. And to be too know, with
- 2:48Speaker 3: one of the toughest scouts in the NFL, it's a
- 2:50Speaker 3: good place to be. So yeah, I'm bossing.
- 2:54Speaker 2: The road as well. Let's not discount two. We haven't
- 2:58Speaker 2: had the easiest start of the season, and we were
- 3:00Speaker 2: in two very hostile environments allegedly but all accounts to
- 3:05Speaker 2: start the season, and we've come out smelling like roses
- 3:07Speaker 2: top of the AFC North, which is I mean, we
- 3:10Speaker 2: can we can be as picky as we want, but
- 3:12Speaker 2: the fact is that the Steelers have a winning record.
- 3:15Speaker 2: The first two weeks of the season, So let's keep
- 3:17Speaker 2: it rolling right.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Exactly and down to see You know, Bonex did struggle,
- 3:23Speaker 1: I thought in week two and your banging in terms
- 3:25Speaker 1: of that week one, as we said last week, sort
- 3:28Speaker 1: of situations where a team could easily flounder, and the
- 3:31Speaker 1: Steelers have gone over the line in both games, which
- 3:34Speaker 1: is just awesome to say ahead of this home opener
- 3:36Speaker 1: coming up this weekend, Jimmy, like you mentioned in AFC North,
- 3:42Speaker 1: the Steers now have a two game lead on the
- 3:44Speaker 1: Bengals and the Evens, And I know if we spoke
- 3:45Speaker 1: to anybody within the team or or to coach Thumbman,
- 3:48Speaker 1: they just said, we're taking each week as a time
- 3:50Speaker 1: and it's a long season. Look anytime you've got an
- 3:53Speaker 1: unbeaten run too, and and you're two games up on
- 3:57Speaker 1: your AFC North rivals and one game up on the
- 3:59Speaker 1: Browns as well, who to be to be fair to them,
- 4:02Speaker 1: had you know, a pretty decent performance in Jacksonville, and I'm
- 4:05Speaker 1: sure every one of those teams is going to be
- 4:07Speaker 1: one the watch. You seem how good the Bengals were,
- 4:09Speaker 1: even though they didn't win against the Chiefs, it's still
- 4:13Speaker 1: and it could be crucial, and that massive slit that
- 4:15Speaker 1: we have going into November December, Jimmy against these AFC
- 4:19Speaker 1: North teams a two game streak at the minute. We
- 4:21Speaker 1: got to keep that goal. We got to keep that
- 4:23Speaker 1: and change with these lads.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it's going to be very interesting to see how
- 4:26Speaker 2: this the rest of the season in the next couple
- 4:28Speaker 2: of weeks unfold, given the fact that we don't start
- 4:31Speaker 2: that our AARC North play for for quite a while yet,
- 4:35Speaker 2: so we have a we have some time to build
- 4:37Speaker 2: up some momentum going into those into those AFC North games,
- 4:41Speaker 2: And like you said, Michael, it's it's strange to see.
- 4:45Speaker 2: I mean, the Ravens lost in shock and against the
- 4:50Speaker 2: Raiders at home, I mean that was crazy to see.
- 4:52Speaker 2: And then to see the fantastic finish, the very close
- 4:56Speaker 2: finish between the Bengals and the Chiefs as well. So
- 4:59Speaker 2: it's fine, Margins, I think we all know what the
- 5:04Speaker 2: AFC North toes like the Steelers are going to have
- 5:05Speaker 2: a target on their backs as well every other team
- 5:08Speaker 2: in that division with each other. So it's going to
- 5:10Speaker 2: be very interesting to see what develops there. Keep an
- 5:13Speaker 2: eye on how our opponents do. But at the same
- 5:15Speaker 2: time we have we have an opportunity to get our
- 5:18Speaker 2: offense right, to start firing a bit more. Look, our
- 5:21Speaker 2: defense is elite. I don't think it's I don't think
- 5:25Speaker 2: it's a stretch to say we have the best defense
- 5:27Speaker 2: in the NFL right now. We just need to get
- 5:29Speaker 2: that offense firing. And I think from what we saw,
- 5:32Speaker 2: I mean there was massive plays yesterday. Justin Fields has
- 5:36Speaker 2: a fantastic connection with George Pickens. We can see that
- 5:39Speaker 2: there was one touchdown call back for the softest offensive
- 5:44Speaker 2: pass interference call I have ever seen in my life.
- 5:46Speaker 2: I still I was shouting at the TV when I
- 5:48Speaker 2: saw I couldn't believe it. And then to have the
- 5:51Speaker 2: the second, the absolute laser that that Justin Fields delivered
- 5:56Speaker 2: the pickings, double coverage, tight window by rights, we should
- 6:00Speaker 2: I had three three scores in that game. So look,
- 6:02Speaker 2: it is there. I think it is coming. It's just
- 6:04Speaker 2: we need to get there faster.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I was like he was shot on the TV as
- 6:08Speaker 1: well last night and no decision from made a couple
- 6:10Speaker 1: of games as well. It was interesting seeing Davog mentioned
- 6:13Speaker 1: some of the teams in the North there. It's obviously
- 6:15Speaker 1: the Staters podcast but when you see the Ravens lose
- 6:19Speaker 1: at home, it shows you that wins like this are
- 6:22Speaker 1: vital and at the same time, this is probably the
- 6:26Speaker 1: best division of football. Like the Ravens and the Bengals.
- 6:30Speaker 1: For even losing offensively, they look really good at times,
- 6:33Speaker 1: and I think we all know that when it comes
- 6:35Speaker 1: to Davog we're gonna have to be ready for them
- 6:36Speaker 1: down the stretch.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Absolutely, and you know there are no pushovers. Although having
- 6:42Speaker 3: said that, a lot of Ravens fans were chuppering not
- 6:44Speaker 3: lost last year when we lost the Gardner minshew, So
- 6:47Speaker 3: I hope they like them apples, but no, just in
- 6:50Speaker 3: a serious note, it's it's it's hard to win in
- 6:53Speaker 3: this league. I mean the Broncos on paper, you know, realistically,
- 6:58Speaker 3: you know, I don't think they matched up quite well
- 7:00Speaker 3: of us. Obviously with a rookie quarterback, you know, they
- 7:02Speaker 3: haven't got the best offensive weapons coming up against our defense.
- 7:05Speaker 3: It wasn't ever going to be easy for them. And
- 7:07Speaker 3: a massive win on the road really impressed with you know,
- 7:09Speaker 3: the first half, both on offense and defense. They felt
- 7:13Speaker 3: like a sort of tale of two halves. If you're like,
- 7:15Speaker 3: you know, we looked like we were sort of slipping
- 7:17Speaker 3: back into our old ways offensively in the second half.
- 7:19Speaker 3: You know, whether we became slightly you know, too conservative,
- 7:22Speaker 3: or maybe we just knew we could lean on that defense.
- 7:24Speaker 3: You know, it's still a slight concern, but overall much
- 7:26Speaker 3: better offensively and justin fields. You know, I fatally improved
- 7:30Speaker 3: a lot. You know, looked much better than he did
- 7:32Speaker 3: in week one. Had one of the throws of the weekend.
- 7:35Speaker 3: That throw the pickings that Jimmy said down the sideline
- 7:37Speaker 3: was a thing of beauty. But this probably sagues and
- 7:40Speaker 3: the you know, the main negative is clearly the penalties.
- 7:42Speaker 3: I mean, we're actually the second most panelized team in
- 7:45Speaker 3: the league so far. Only the Browns have more more panelized.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Brother Jones specifically, you know, had a bit of a
- 7:50Speaker 3: nightmare and not drive three penalties. You know, you want
- 7:52Speaker 3: to be able to give them the benefit of the doubts,
- 7:54Speaker 3: but because you know, he's still young. But the same time,
- 7:56Speaker 3: look at Troy Fatano, you know, fifty four offensive sacks,
- 7:59Speaker 3: zero sacks allowed, zero poalty. So yeah, this is clearly
- 8:03Speaker 3: somewhere where product needs to improve. But it's something as
- 8:06Speaker 3: a team we just need to improve, you know, we
- 8:07Speaker 3: need to we need to sort of knuckle down on
- 8:09Speaker 3: these penalties. And if we do that, you know, I
- 8:11Speaker 3: don't really see why this team can't go all the way.
- 8:13Speaker 3: As well as that just jumping in just before I
- 8:15Speaker 3: could say, you're ready to jump in, Jimmy, but John
- 8:18Speaker 3: obviously with Pat Barmouth as well, the tight you know,
- 8:21Speaker 3: the tight end of course, big contract. Last week. I
- 8:23Speaker 3: thought he was crucial in the passing game as well,
- 8:25Speaker 3: a couple of big first downs. So yeah, I was
- 8:28Speaker 3: really really happy of Fancy with a lot of scene.
- 8:31Speaker 2: It's good having Friar Mut. They've just on your point
- 8:33Speaker 2: there as he's emerging as the second most important target
- 8:38Speaker 2: for Justin Fields. And it's great to see Justin Fields
- 8:41Speaker 2: has only been in the only been in this offense
- 8:43Speaker 2: and it is a new offense for all Steelers with
- 8:46Speaker 2: Arthur Smith coming in. But it's fantastic to see how
- 8:49Speaker 2: Justin's Justin Fields. He looks like a first string quarterback.
- 8:53Speaker 2: That's put it that way. He doesn't look like a
- 8:54Speaker 2: backup quarterback. He's running that offense very well. He's he's calm,
- 8:58Speaker 2: he's in command, he's making his reads, he's scrambling when
- 9:01Speaker 2: he needs to. But you can see as well that
- 9:03Speaker 2: he's not scrambling, isn't his first option. You can see
- 9:06Speaker 2: when he when he's trying his best to sit in
- 9:08Speaker 2: the pocket and make his reads. And sometimes it doesn't
- 9:11Speaker 2: work out, sometimes it does. But no, I think just
- 9:15Speaker 2: generally it's it's it's a more it was a more positive,
- 9:19Speaker 2: more positive performance. But like you say, ruined by penalty,
- 9:23Speaker 2: is completely ruined by penalties. And I think we had
- 9:24Speaker 2: two touchdowns potentially wiped out because of flags close to
- 9:28Speaker 2: one hundred yards and penalties that just kind of happen,
- 9:31Speaker 2: especially with the likes of Broder Jones, And how do
- 9:33Speaker 2: you say is a second year player? Now, there's just
- 9:35Speaker 2: no excuse for that.
- 9:38Speaker 1: And don look fifty four offensive stops. If it was
- 9:41Speaker 1: fifty four offensive socks, I'd be a happy man. Fifty
- 9:44Speaker 1: four socks. Oh here you're gone. I just follow do
- 9:48Speaker 1: that instead of a clipping it out. It's good crack lab.
- 9:51Speaker 1: And look, let's just before we hear and sort of
- 9:53Speaker 1: talk more about this game, let's hear from steers Heck,
- 9:55Speaker 1: which Mike Tomlin along with one of the star performers,
- 9:58Speaker 1: not just that game to see it is one.
- 10:03Speaker 4: You know, really appreciative of the efforts. I just told
- 10:06Speaker 4: the guys in there start the season with two road
- 10:09Speaker 4: games B two and oh man, it's a pretty good feeling. Obviously,
- 10:14Speaker 4: we got a lot to work on, but it's good
- 10:16Speaker 4: to work on it with with the required w of
- 10:18Speaker 4: the week. I thought the first thing that kind of
- 10:21Speaker 4: captured my attention was the penalties. You can't produce or
- 10:24Speaker 4: sustained drives being penalized the way that we were, and
- 10:28Speaker 4: so you know, we got some work ahead of us there,
- 10:30Speaker 4: among other things that just from a knee jerk reaction standpoint, though,
- 10:34Speaker 4: that was the most troublesome component of the game. Appreciative
- 10:38Speaker 4: of the efforts in a lot of areas though, I
- 10:40Speaker 4: thought the guys played really hard. I thought they did
- 10:42Speaker 4: a nice job of making the environment irrelevant and making
- 10:46Speaker 4: no mistake it was a hostile environment. Possession down ball
- 10:49Speaker 4: and things of that nature. It's a tough place to play.
- 10:53Speaker 4: Thankful for the victory, though. A couple of guys got
- 10:56Speaker 4: banged up along the way. Prouit has got a knee,
- 11:00Speaker 4: Tyler Matti kavig Uh's probably got a hamstring of some description.
- 11:05Speaker 4: I'll give you guys an update on their status next
- 11:07Speaker 4: time we come together, Questions, penalties and two games for
- 11:11Speaker 4: you guys going on. You know, I'm not looking for comfort,
- 11:16Speaker 4: you know, I'm not worried about officiating, messaging and seeking
- 11:19Speaker 4: comfort to what along those lines. We gotta play cleaner.
- 11:22Speaker 4: And it's as simple as that. And so we're not
- 11:25Speaker 4: gonna hope for a change. We're gonna do some things
- 11:27Speaker 4: to create a change in terms of how we approach
- 11:30Speaker 4: the work, and we will.
- 11:31Speaker 2: What was the difference between officially my first have a
- 11:34Speaker 2: lot of yards, a lot of conversions, penalties.
- 11:37Speaker 4: You know, you get holding penalties, You're gonna shut a
- 11:40Speaker 4: drive down in the National Football League, particularly at this
- 11:43Speaker 4: stage of of of team developments. You know, we just
- 11:46Speaker 4: we don't have enough cohesion to overcome those long yardist circumstances.
- 11:50Speaker 4: Really not a lot of people do in September, this
- 11:54Speaker 4: this stage of the game. You get a penalty, a
- 11:55Speaker 4: holding penalty, it's gonna shut.
- 11:57Speaker 3: A drive down.
- 11:58Speaker 4: So we gotta play cleaner.
- 12:00Speaker 5: Learned about justin how that he sat, she starts for it.
- 12:03Speaker 4: You know, I think with each passing day, I'm learning
- 12:05Speaker 4: more about 'em. I just think that there's no substitute
- 12:08Speaker 4: for a relationship. You go through something together, you learn
- 12:11Speaker 4: about yourselves and each other, and so it's just been
- 12:13Speaker 4: a good process looking forward to it continuing.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Like what did you think about the defense and its
- 12:19Speaker 1: ability to create turnovers?
- 12:21Speaker 2: Uh, good splash players.
- 12:22Speaker 4: You you know, we got a veteran group, We got
- 12:25Speaker 4: a lot of talent over there. To be quite honest
- 12:27Speaker 4: with you, I expect it. It's appreciated, but but definitely expected.
- 12:34Speaker 4: You know, they gotta be a catalyst for us. They
- 12:36Speaker 4: know it, they own that. They don't run from that.
- 12:39Speaker 4: They run to that.
- 12:41Speaker 5: Really crown tower. Defense played today. Like you said, it
- 12:44Speaker 5: starts just stopping the run and there trying to get
- 12:46Speaker 5: after the rookie quarterback as much as we could. I
- 12:48Speaker 5: thought they did some things well today. But I'm just
- 12:51Speaker 5: proud of the way that we would have the ball up,
- 12:52Speaker 5: especially how about Corey Trice, all that he's been able
- 12:55Speaker 5: to overcome and just seen all the work that he
- 12:57Speaker 5: puts in and uh, to see him get that play
- 13:00Speaker 5: that interception, it's huge.
- 13:01Speaker 2: We wanted to talk a little bit about that. Maybe
- 13:02Speaker 2: the biggest play of the game came applied a little
- 13:04Speaker 2: bit of pressure, but it really came up in a
- 13:06Speaker 2: big time home he did.
- 13:07Speaker 5: He did, and we felt like we were getting close
- 13:09Speaker 5: all day long with applying the pressure and to have
- 13:12Speaker 5: Corey make a play like that and the big time
- 13:14Speaker 5: moment was huge. But we're not surprised. So we we
- 13:18Speaker 5: love making plays, we love seeing who's gonna make plays.
- 13:21Speaker 2: We know those plays we made. We're not trying too
- 13:24Speaker 2: hard to do a little bit more than we're supposed to.
- 13:26Speaker 5: We're trusting each other and I think more than any.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Continuers better as a defense.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Great to hear from coach Tomlin TJ. Watt on the
- 13:34Speaker 1: Irish Steeers podcast as we rolling and just get flu
- 13:37Speaker 1: weik two looking ahead now in a little bit to
- 13:40Speaker 1: week fleet home opener for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and look,
- 13:44Speaker 1: this was a really interesting game Jimmy in the sense
- 13:46Speaker 1: if we try and give a performer each and try
- 13:50Speaker 1: and highlight someone, I mean, first off, before we do
- 13:53Speaker 1: that offensively over one hundred and ten yards combined on
- 13:56Speaker 1: the rush, which is great to see between jale And and Nagy.
- 13:58Speaker 1: If you had to highlight a performer in this game
- 14:02Speaker 1: that you give your Steelers game MVP too with the
- 14:05Speaker 1: starts each week, not actually who will it be?
- 14:08Speaker 2: I mean, this is is gonna be a fairly obvious
- 14:10Speaker 2: choice make, but I'm going with George Pickens. I just
- 14:14Speaker 2: love how well she's developed since last year. I mean,
- 14:16Speaker 2: we saw what he was capable of, but I don't
- 14:19Speaker 2: think he had he didn't have the quarterback throwing him
- 14:22Speaker 2: the ball to really unlock his potential. And now with
- 14:25Speaker 2: justin fields, with his mobility, with his arm strength, with
- 14:27Speaker 2: his accuracy, you can see that Pickens is becoming his
- 14:30Speaker 2: is it's not becoming He is his favorite target. He
- 14:33Speaker 2: is his number one wide receiver. So it's fantastic to
- 14:35Speaker 2: see Pickens develop into that role that he was drafted
- 14:39Speaker 2: to fulfill. And you look at just some of the
- 14:41Speaker 2: ridiculous catches he had yesterday. He was an absolute mess.
- 14:44Speaker 2: He bullied Patrick's Certain all game long. I mean, at
- 14:47Speaker 2: one point Certain was hanging out of him for dear life,
- 14:50Speaker 2: trying to cover him up, ended up, drawn a pass
- 14:54Speaker 2: interference penalty. But not just get Pickings the ball. Give
- 15:00Speaker 2: George the ball and let's get into some touchdowns and
- 15:03Speaker 2: see what else, see what else he could do.
- 15:06Speaker 1: One of the biggest signings that Broncos in the offseason,
- 15:09Speaker 1: ironically was Russell Wilson actually leaving first off, which was
- 15:12Speaker 1: talk about that in the second ben Pyers didn't have
- 15:16Speaker 1: a game at all yesterday. A guy called Cam Hayward,
- 15:18Speaker 1: My performer was just unbelievable. The guy dominated him and
- 15:22Speaker 1: it was great to see like that defense yesterday, lads
- 15:24Speaker 1: was on one. And it's one thing for us to
- 15:26Speaker 1: say about bone Nicks not having a great game. The
- 15:29Speaker 1: defense did not allow the Broncos to get in this
- 15:31Speaker 1: game at all. And even when there was one or
- 15:32Speaker 1: two occasions where frankly some of Bonex's receivers let him down,
- 15:36Speaker 1: the defense still still high. And I thought they had
- 15:39Speaker 1: a really really good performance. O we're all divog. I mean,
- 15:42Speaker 1: feel free to give us your offensive performer or just
- 15:45Speaker 1: overall performer for the Seedlers in this game. But also,
- 15:47Speaker 1: you know, we had a situation yesterday where our backup
- 15:51Speaker 1: QB or a guy that was not active in Russell
- 15:54Speaker 1: Wilson on the day because of injury, was getting paid
- 15:57Speaker 1: thirty six million dollars. By the time a Broncos to
- 15:59Speaker 1: Tree and Fields to see the financial deal that the
- 16:02Speaker 1: Steelers have for Russell Wilson paying like one million dollars
- 16:05Speaker 1: a season. But a great vice to have in the
- 16:07Speaker 1: locker room. And also you could hear Justin after the
- 16:10Speaker 1: game just how much they respect Russell as as a
- 16:14Speaker 1: leader so early into both their careers in Pittsburgh, and
- 16:17Speaker 1: you can see there's a real genuine respect there, and
- 16:19Speaker 1: that as the team builds and builds and builds, regardless
- 16:22Speaker 1: who's under center, and over the next few weeks, you
- 16:25Speaker 1: can see that the team are really building in just
- 16:27Speaker 1: among himselves as well.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Yeah, as you said, he's an ultimate professional. I mean,
- 16:33Speaker 3: of course he's not the starter, but he's here to
- 16:36Speaker 3: support Justin Fields and his obviously, you know, Justin fieldgh is.
- 16:39Speaker 3: You know, he's not a rookie, but he's by no
- 16:41Speaker 3: means of vetter and he's still got a long way
- 16:42Speaker 3: to go in his career. So I don't expect any
- 16:45Speaker 3: different from Russ. He is an ultimate professional. He's got
- 16:47Speaker 3: a Super Bowl ring, probably should have had two, although
- 16:50Speaker 3: we know what happened there. But yeah, ultimate professional doesn't
- 16:53Speaker 3: surprise me. My iuch standing performer. You know, I have
- 16:57Speaker 3: to say Jimmy has sort of stolen nice under here,
- 16:59Speaker 3: but I'll go a different route, but just have to
- 17:01Speaker 3: say something on George Pickens. You know, a lot of
- 17:04Speaker 3: star performers. You know, although the stats don't scream spectacular,
- 17:08Speaker 3: I would love to have give it to George Pickins.
- 17:10Speaker 3: You know, it's a guy who had a contender of
- 17:12Speaker 3: Cats of the Year and the touchdown. Should have both
- 17:14Speaker 3: had these down the staff sheet, but only for penalties
- 17:17Speaker 3: that were absolutely out of his control. For me, he
- 17:19Speaker 3: deserved some good recognition. Most star receivers would have thrown
- 17:22Speaker 3: their ties out of the prom but Pickins showed your
- 17:24Speaker 3: strange you know, he gets a lot of stick in
- 17:25Speaker 3: the media for some reason about being difficult, but he
- 17:28Speaker 3: should all those so called experts up. So, but I'm
- 17:31Speaker 3: going to go a different route. I'll go with Justin Fields.
- 17:33Speaker 3: You know, just as Jimmy said, I was really impressed
- 17:36Speaker 3: with how his first option wasn't to roll out right
- 17:38Speaker 3: or rollout left and scrambled for the first time. I
- 17:40Speaker 3: was really impressed with how he was willing. His first
- 17:42Speaker 3: option was to drop back and and sling it from
- 17:45Speaker 3: the pocket. So and I think he deserves a lot
- 17:48Speaker 3: of credit. And of course is professionalism at the podium afterwards.
- 17:52Speaker 3: You know, even after the Atlanta game, he said he
- 17:54Speaker 3: was proud to be a Pittsburgh seeler, and that's what
- 17:56Speaker 3: we're really looking for. We're we're looking for the guys
- 17:58Speaker 3: that are proud to ward the black and and he
- 18:00Speaker 3: definitely slides in there. So for that reason, he's my
- 18:03Speaker 3: player of the game.
- 18:05Speaker 1: I love it. I love it. Let's talk about this
- 18:08Speaker 1: more during the week. Obviously, real optimism on this podcast
- 18:12Speaker 1: and real optimism along among Steeler Nation as we get
- 18:15Speaker 1: in the week three, we will talk about this time
- 18:18Speaker 1: of stretch that probably later in the week Thursday, Friday time, folks.
- 18:21Speaker 1: But Steelers Chargers, Jimmy, like, just initial thoughts. This Chargers
- 18:25Speaker 1: team have had a really, really good started the season
- 18:27Speaker 1: because see coach Harber's come in and he's a lot
- 18:31Speaker 1: just Herbert to sort of have the ruins and really
- 18:34Speaker 1: take a pressure of him, especially when it comes to
- 18:36Speaker 1: the run game. They look good and this is going
- 18:38Speaker 1: to be a really difficult challenge for both teams that
- 18:39Speaker 1: are two and zero, and something's got to give this Sunday.
- 18:42Speaker 1: But look, I'm happy as a home opener. What's your
- 18:45Speaker 1: initial thoughts.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Yeah, well, first of all, definitely agree with you. I
- 18:49Speaker 2: bet at being a home opener and being excited there.
- 18:51Speaker 2: I mean, I think this Sunday coming is exactly one
- 18:55Speaker 2: month since until myself, Dave and our friend Dean, if
- 18:58Speaker 2: you're listening, that we take our seats in Akroscher Stadium
- 19:02Speaker 2: for the Steelers Jets on October twenty. It cannot wait
- 19:04Speaker 2: for that. Myself and Dave and Dean had let me
- 19:08Speaker 2: get together last weekend to review our trip across the pond.
- 19:11Speaker 2: But talking in terms of the Chargers, make I mean
- 19:15Speaker 2: historically in the past couple of seasons they have had
- 19:18Speaker 2: our number to to a great a great degree. We
- 19:22Speaker 2: for whatever reason that may be, we just we struggled
- 19:24Speaker 2: to shut down Herbert, especially now with with Ji Harbot
- 19:30Speaker 2: coming in, it adds an extra dimension of toughness and
- 19:32Speaker 2: you can see that is his return to the NFL
- 19:35Speaker 2: is has been dominant so far. Like you say, so,
- 19:38Speaker 2: I think it comes down to stuff in the run games,
- 19:40Speaker 2: stopping the run games, shut down JK. Dobbins take away
- 19:45Speaker 2: that dimension of the game. Confused, a confound, trying and
- 19:48Speaker 2: confound Herbert, and just I think consistency on defense, keep
- 19:52Speaker 2: getting after the quarterback like we like we've been doing
- 19:55Speaker 2: with with with with TJ. Watt and the defense there
- 19:57Speaker 2: and just harass the quarterback cause k Us and hopefully
- 20:01Speaker 2: our offense can step up and do a better job.
- 20:04Speaker 1: It looks coach Harbor Dallogg knows the Staders like so
- 20:09Speaker 1: many other coaches in this league's been there so many
- 20:11Speaker 1: times with the San Francis, California Nineers back in the day.
- 20:17Speaker 1: What's your faults in this game as we win this Sunday.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Yeah, initial thoughts. Obviously we'll get the previous maybe later
- 20:24Speaker 3: in the week, but the initial thoughts. We it's a
- 20:27Speaker 3: difficult game. It's a difficult You don't get many more
- 20:29Speaker 3: difficult teams at home than the Chargers. It's passibly with
- 20:32Speaker 3: Jim Jim Harbaugh, he'll probably be giving his brother a bell.
- 20:35Speaker 3: You know, nobody knows the Steelers better than than John Harbaugh.
- 20:38Speaker 3: You know we faced them twice a year for ten years,
- 20:40Speaker 3: odd faced like. So it's going to be a massive game.
- 20:44Speaker 3: As I say, they've got a lot of good offensive
- 20:45Speaker 3: pieces JK. Dobbins, Quentin Johnston as well, the wide receiver
- 20:49Speaker 3: who had two touchdowns this weekend against the Panthers. Although
- 20:52Speaker 3: everybody's beaten them at the moment, so but at the
- 20:55Speaker 3: same time, yeah, we have to come in the main
- 20:58Speaker 3: thing I'll be looking for just a quick one less penalties.
- 21:01Speaker 3: I mean, if we can sort of knail down the
- 21:03Speaker 3: penalties this weekend. And I think we're chewing for another
- 21:07Speaker 3: win in three and zero because there are team that
- 21:10Speaker 3: are going to be able to put up points. You know,
- 21:11Speaker 3: they've got an electric offense, their defense is improved, Kalil
- 21:14Speaker 3: Max Stilling, a great player, Joey Bosa. So it's really
- 21:18Speaker 3: about how can we sort of knael down these penalties
- 21:20Speaker 3: and obviously focus, you know, going into into game next week.
- 21:23Speaker 3: So let's say preview it a bit later on in
- 21:25Speaker 3: the week. But I'm pretty confident.
- 21:28Speaker 1: We're looking forward to the game home opener for the
- 21:29Speaker 1: Staters on Sunday six pm. I t NFL game Pass
- 21:34Speaker 1: on the zone for that game this Sunday OTB Sports
- 21:38Speaker 1: Radio folks. Great the Chapias again, folks, if you're listening,
- 21:41Speaker 1: please do use the hashtag Steelers Ireland. I'd love to
- 21:44Speaker 1: hear from me ahead of the watch party in Coup
- 21:46Speaker 1: Park next week, and do check out. We'll put a
- 21:48Speaker 1: ticket link in for the end zone tickets, which I
- 21:50Speaker 1: believe are still available for next Sunday. I'll put that
- 21:54Speaker 1: in the bio at the end of this podcast for
- 21:56Speaker 1: myself from Jimmy from Dabog. Have a great week, folks.
- 22:00Speaker 1: We will chat to you as we get charged up
- 22:02Speaker 1: for this come up with her. There's your pun. Here
- 22:04Speaker 1: we go, lads, Here we go.
