- 0:17Speaker 1: but the writers of Patriots dot com have you covered?
- 0:20Speaker 3: What did I miss yesterday?
- 0:21Speaker 4: Now here to review today's practice?
- 0:23Speaker 1: The writers of Patriots dot Com.
- 0:25Speaker 5: All right, welcome into another edition of the Patriots Training
- 0:28Speaker 5: Camp Cast. I'm Mike do So, joined by Paul Perillo
- 0:30Speaker 5: and Tamara Brown, and we are literally right off the field.
- 0:32Speaker 5: We haven't even compared notes. Paul, I don't even know
- 0:34Speaker 5: what you thought of this practice today.
- 0:35Speaker 3: So I mean, this could go anywhere.
- 0:37Speaker 4: I have no idea what you guys, So let's dive in.
- 0:40Speaker 5: I mean, we know there's a game in a couple
- 0:41Speaker 5: of days, and I, you know, I felt it was
- 0:43Speaker 5: a little bit dial back in places. There was you know,
- 0:46Speaker 5: there were some plays made here and there, some of
- 0:47Speaker 5: them like out of bounds maybe that were kind of whoa.
- 0:50Speaker 5: But otherwise I didn't really feel that great about this practice.
- 0:52Speaker 5: It felt kind of like slogging. And you know, again
- 0:55Speaker 5: like you've talked a lot, Paul about the the rhythm
- 0:57Speaker 5: of it, and it just it felt plotting a lot
- 0:59Speaker 5: of the times, and there were some big plays that
- 1:01Speaker 5: we'll get into that were that were kind of nice
- 1:02Speaker 5: and encouraging. But overall, I just felt like, this feels
- 1:05Speaker 5: like a couple of days before a game.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Yeah, And I thought because they were so physical yesterday,
- 1:10Speaker 3: I felt like they dialed it back a little bit.
- 1:12Speaker 3: It was much more passing today than yesterday. And I
- 1:16Speaker 3: thought there was some moments here or there. You know,
- 1:19Speaker 3: I think there were times when you see Drake May
- 1:21Speaker 3: get in a rhythm, and generally those are seven on seven's,
- 1:24Speaker 3: not not the full team, but you see it, you
- 1:27Speaker 3: see some of the things that people are excited about.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Still a work in progress, but yeah, there were some
- 1:31Speaker 3: outstanding catches made today. Whether or not they were all,
- 1:35Speaker 3: you know, all in about, I think most of them were.
- 1:37Speaker 3: There was one toward the end that I'm pretty sure
- 1:39Speaker 3: was out of bounds, but like, there was a couple
- 1:42Speaker 3: of really really nice catches, athletic plays made during the
- 1:46Speaker 3: course of the day. And again, I thought the defense
- 1:48Speaker 3: more often than not was in control. Yeah, we'll get
- 1:50Speaker 3: into it stood out too.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Yeah, what's up to me? And I hate to be
- 1:54Speaker 2: a little bit nitpicky. Here was Drake May in the
- 1:56Speaker 2: situational periods. I think he's still a bit bumpy there,
- 1:59Speaker 2: kind of a roller coaster especially, you know, I think
- 2:02Speaker 2: it was like under a minute, fifty eight seconds whatever
- 2:04Speaker 2: it was, But the supporting cast didn't help him. There
- 2:06Speaker 2: were a lot of drops. There's a bad snap, So
- 2:10Speaker 2: I don't want to blame it all on him, but
- 2:11Speaker 2: those seemed to be the areas where he can have
- 2:14Speaker 2: some growth. And obviously the preseason game coming up have
- 2:16Speaker 2: plenty of opportunities to get reps. But he is showing
- 2:19Speaker 2: flashes throughout practice that good to see.
- 2:21Speaker 5: Yeah, well, let's let's highlight some of these stories that
- 2:23Speaker 5: we're talking about. I mean, seven on seven May with
- 2:25Speaker 5: a couple I just I wrote dimes it to Booty
- 2:28Speaker 5: and to our friend. We haven't really seen jahean Bell
- 2:31Speaker 5: a couple of nice throws. Again, kind of hard from
- 2:32Speaker 5: my vantage point.
- 2:33Speaker 3: To see if I gave him a touchdown because the
- 2:35Speaker 3: first time I've noticed jehem Bell in camp, so I
- 2:37Speaker 3: figured out they give me an opportunity to strow write
- 2:39Speaker 3: about him. But yeah, I know exactly the play you're
- 2:41Speaker 3: talking about came right at us in the the know
- 2:43Speaker 3: what all tents, and I agree with Samara's assessment of
- 2:47Speaker 3: the of the hurry up. The two minute drill is
- 2:49Speaker 3: continuing to me to be sort of plotting for both
- 2:52Speaker 3: both quarterbacks. And there was one play, you know, I'm
- 2:56Speaker 3: trying to find. I think it was with Brissett. You know,
- 2:59Speaker 3: they had a fourth down and they complete a pretty
- 3:01Speaker 3: sizable seam route to kJ Osborne and Osbo just keeps
- 3:05Speaker 3: running and I'm like running, like there needs to be
- 3:10Speaker 3: a situational awareness in that kind of a you know, spot,
- 3:14Speaker 3: And I thought that you get the first down, there's
- 3:16Speaker 3: no time to celebrate. I think they ended up resetting
- 3:18Speaker 3: the clock where he would have been sort of stopped.
- 3:21Speaker 3: So like like like you said, it wasn't like it
- 3:24Speaker 3: was without any plays at all. Offensively. There were some
- 3:26Speaker 3: plays made, just not enough of them. And I do
- 3:29Speaker 3: think Tamara mentioned a snap issue. I think that the
- 3:33Speaker 3: rain today in Foxboro casts some problems handling the ball.
- 3:36Speaker 3: I thought the long snapping we should add that Tucker
- 3:39Speaker 3: Addington was was added to the roster. His snaps were
- 3:43Speaker 3: a little erratic today. I thought they had some hard
- 3:45Speaker 3: time and there was a fumble I think by Kevin Harris.
- 3:48Speaker 3: There was a couple of fumbled exchanges involving the quarterbacks
- 3:52Speaker 3: and some guys on jet sweep. So I thought the
- 3:55Speaker 3: rain created some adversity.
- 3:57Speaker 5: Today, Let's keep building off of that because Javon Baker
- 4:00Speaker 5: had which this is a crazy catch, I mean and
- 4:02Speaker 5: back and when that's the one?
- 4:03Speaker 4: Was that the one you were talking about in on
- 4:04Speaker 4: that one? It couldn't tell, but yeah it was.
- 4:06Speaker 3: It was parab completely parallel to the ground. He makes
- 4:09Speaker 3: that diving catch, then he drops like three us.
- 4:11Speaker 5: You know, it's just like, yeah, that was and that
- 4:13Speaker 5: was you talked about samaraw with Drake May where Drake
- 4:15Speaker 5: fired I think a couple passes that you know in
- 4:17Speaker 5: his area. It's hard to say, but you could tell
- 4:19Speaker 5: the wet ball was definitely coming into it.
- 4:20Speaker 2: It's strange because it's like those diving acrobatic catches. You
- 4:24Speaker 2: see his catch radius and his strong hands and Javon Baker,
- 4:27Speaker 2: but then it's something with the short passes that he
- 4:30Speaker 2: drops them. And I will say a lot of the
- 4:32Speaker 2: passes were behind him. There were a few moments where
- 4:35Speaker 2: I know Fred brought up next to me a bunch
- 4:36Speaker 2: of times, like why is he throwing the ball behind
- 4:38Speaker 2: the guy? Yeah? But still you.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Got to credit the quarterback guru.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Yeah, good observations.
- 4:44Speaker 5: And I mean, of course, the team has a game
- 4:45Speaker 5: coming up, so I just noticed a lot of rotation.
- 4:48Speaker 4: There were you know, kind of maybe a little bit more.
- 4:49Speaker 5: We talked a lot about the rotation, Paul, but like
- 4:51Speaker 5: even along the offensive line, there were, you know, some
- 4:53Speaker 5: guys working in a little bit.
- 4:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm glad you brought that up.
- 4:55Speaker 2: City.
- 4:56Speaker 3: So looked like he was at his normal spot at
- 4:58Speaker 3: left guard during the war through period at the beginning
- 5:01Speaker 3: of practice. Then when they went team it was Michael Jordan,
- 5:04Speaker 3: not that one and not the actor, this Michael Jordan.
- 5:08Speaker 3: He and I thought he actually looked pretty good. I
- 5:10Speaker 3: thought on the move some of those zone plays that
- 5:12Speaker 3: Evan talks about all the time.
- 5:14Speaker 4: I thought he was leading.
- 5:16Speaker 3: On a Kevin Harris sort of off tackle play on
- 5:19Speaker 3: an inside zone. I thought he got out and made
- 5:21Speaker 3: a kicked out, made a big block to remove Jelani
- 5:24Speaker 3: Tavai out of the hole, which was was one of
- 5:27Speaker 3: the rare running plays that I thought looked like it
- 5:30Speaker 3: had some positive yardage. So something to keep an eye
- 5:32Speaker 3: on there. Venerian low continues just like five days in
- 5:34Speaker 3: a row now, at left tackle for low Calvin Anderson
- 5:38Speaker 3: back at right tackle. So you know, it's two days
- 5:41Speaker 3: in a row, kind of the same group at the beginning,
- 5:43Speaker 3: you know, and then Jordan mixing in. So we'll see
- 5:45Speaker 3: how that goes Thursday. But to me, the big takeaway
- 5:48Speaker 3: was Drod Mayo saying that, you know, everybody who's healthy
- 5:51Speaker 3: is going to play Thursday night in the preseason opener.
- 5:53Speaker 5: Yeah, Kate Wallace who kind of banged up during practice,
- 5:55Speaker 5: got looked at, did go back to back, but you know, again,
- 5:58Speaker 5: and we had a similar situation with Calvin Anderson earlier
- 6:01Speaker 5: in the week.
- 6:02Speaker 4: They're very banged up.
- 6:03Speaker 5: They went out, they signed another left tackle this week,
- 6:05Speaker 5: but you know, otherwise, you just wonder how they're going
- 6:07Speaker 5: to go into this game with kind of the tackles.
- 6:09Speaker 5: I mean, it's an uncertain situation even with everyone healthy,
- 6:12Speaker 5: and now with a couple guys banged up, you're kind
- 6:14Speaker 5: of limited a quarters four again just watch, so really
- 6:17Speaker 5: some attrition there at tackle is kind of building up
- 6:20Speaker 5: to Marrow. It makes me wonder, you know, how you're
- 6:21Speaker 5: gonna juggle it when you get into this preseason game
- 6:24Speaker 5: where you're gonna have guys like Zuri Henry, you know,
- 6:26Speaker 5: playing extensive snaps.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I think it's going to make it tough to get
- 6:29Speaker 2: a good assessment of Drake may especially because we've only
- 6:32Speaker 2: seen him in practice with like the second string type
- 6:35Speaker 2: of guys. But if you keep getting thin because of
- 6:37Speaker 2: these injuries, then it's like those guys are going to
- 6:39Speaker 2: end up playing with Jacoby Brissett too. So I think
- 6:42Speaker 2: it's going to be tough to assess the quarterback play
- 6:44Speaker 2: when the offensive line is still bad.
- 6:46Speaker 5: Yeah, And I mean I did think they had some
- 6:47Speaker 5: periods today where there were you know, pretty good protection
- 6:50Speaker 5: for Presette, but not a lot you know, just not
- 6:51Speaker 5: a lot of continuity, not able to really stack drives.
- 6:54Speaker 5: I think that's what I'm most interested to see with
- 6:56Speaker 5: that Jacoby Brissette offense. Can they stack a drive, you know,
- 6:59Speaker 5: in real time? And it's not make a play stop
- 7:01Speaker 5: all right? He said, you know, it's just you never
- 7:03Speaker 5: felt that real kind of game scenario yet in practice, and.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Whenever they do sort of get in the rhythm. To me,
- 7:08Speaker 3: it's all the short, quick throws. It's little hooks, it's curls,
- 7:11Speaker 3: it's slants. There's nothing that's you know, takes any time
- 7:15Speaker 3: to develop, so you know some of those deep overs
- 7:18Speaker 3: that you know, you see the crossing routes that that
- 7:20Speaker 3: you know that that that a VP system is supposed
- 7:23Speaker 3: to be about. We haven't really seen a lot of
- 7:25Speaker 3: that yet.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Yeah, let's wrap up with some housekeeping notes.
- 7:27Speaker 5: I mean twenty four Josh Bledsoe back in uniform, so
- 7:30Speaker 5: a little boost there to the safety group. Marcus Jones
- 7:33Speaker 5: remains out. The rest of the group that that has
- 7:35Speaker 5: been out remains out. Marte Mapu among others. Matthew Judahm
- 7:39Speaker 5: we got to you know, was out there initially, not
- 7:42Speaker 5: in pads today, looked like he just had shells to me,
- 7:44Speaker 5: did not have a helmet, disappeared for a portion after stretching,
- 7:48Speaker 5: reappeared on the sidelines, not really participating.
- 7:50Speaker 4: To me, this felt again like a little bit of
- 7:52Speaker 4: a shift.
- 7:53Speaker 5: He's been out there, he's been participating, been a good
- 7:55Speaker 5: you know, the good the you know, the good employee kind.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Of We heard from him yesterday and sound like a
- 8:00Speaker 3: guy with that was overly pleased and yeah, he spent
- 8:03Speaker 3: some time talking to joke him and the outside linebackers.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Coach Wilkins Drewe.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Drew Wilkins ye from ball was close.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Yeah, spent a lot of time talking to those guys
- 8:13Speaker 3: did not have pads on today, did not take part.
- 8:16Speaker 2: It's definitely very misleading when you listen to him in
- 8:18Speaker 2: his press conference yesterday and then you see him out
- 8:20Speaker 2: of practice. He obviously sounds like he is going to play,
- 8:23Speaker 2: but maybe that means hey, I'm just going to play
- 8:25Speaker 2: in the games and practice.
- 8:26Speaker 1: When I want to.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Yeah, well, this is it, folks.
