- 0:00Speaker 1: We have Sean Callahan. We've got Jim Rose. We've got
- 0:02Speaker 1: the Husker Bucks. Here we go. All right, Sean. Good morning.
- 0:05Speaker 1: What's the deal on Carter Nelson?
- 0:08Speaker 2: Well, he went down with a knee injury in the
- 0:11Speaker 2: game on Saturday. It didn't look good. But as of today,
- 0:18Speaker 2: it doesn't look like a season ender. It wasn't maybe
- 0:23Speaker 2: the severity that they thought. As far as the timeline,
- 0:26Speaker 2: we won't know. But guess what?
- 0:27Speaker 1: Today.
- 0:28Speaker 2: The Big Ten for Nebraska will release the first ever
- 0:32Speaker 2: Wednesday injury report. They're going to have injury reports released
- 0:35Speaker 2: four times now, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday during the
- 0:39Speaker 2: course of a week, and that's new this year in
- 0:43Speaker 2: Big Ten versus Big Ten games. They have not released
- 0:45Speaker 2: these injury reports in the non-conference season.
- 0:48Speaker 1: So it'll probably be like the NFL. The NFL has
- 0:50Speaker 1: done this for years. A player will be listed as probable, doubtful, questionable, right?
- 0:57Speaker 2: Right, and we know Nelson is out this week. It
- 1:00Speaker 2: doesn't matter how many weeks this would be moving forward.
- 1:06Speaker 1: All right, Michigan State. The ball game against Notre Dame
- 1:09Speaker 1: left some Michigan State fans encouraged and others disappointed. Very
- 1:14Speaker 1: Pat Fitzgerald-like, tough defense, not much of an offense. But
- 1:18Speaker 1: it is a physical team, and they're at home, and
- 1:21Speaker 1: this coach is really, really good. What is your take
- 1:25Speaker 1: on their personnel ahead of this one?
- 1:27Speaker 2: Yeah, the game against Notre Dame, the 27-10 score definitely
- 1:31Speaker 2: made it look closer than it really was. Michigan State's
- 1:34Speaker 2: offense only ran 46 snaps, or 45 snaps, I believe
- 1:38Speaker 2: it was. And Notre Dame had 67 snaps in that game.
- 1:41Speaker 2: So Notre Dame controlled the game. They limited the big play.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Michigan State did a really good job, but it's kind
- 1:48Speaker 2: of slowing the game down. But they didn't have any
- 1:52Speaker 2: explosive plays. I think when you look at Michigan State's offense...
- 1:56Speaker 2: It's not a big play offense. They want to make
- 1:58Speaker 2: this game kind of a tank fight where it's control
- 2:02Speaker 2: the line of scrimmage, get in those third and twos,
- 2:05Speaker 2: or you get kind of a quick pass to the
- 2:08Speaker 2: tight end. There's something to kind of keep the game
- 2:11Speaker 2: moving at the pace they want it to. That's what
- 2:14Speaker 2: Nebraska's going to have to be able to play in
- 2:15Speaker 2: this game. They're going to have to play a style,
- 2:18Speaker 2: a Big Ten style, where the game is slowed down.
- 2:20Speaker 2: It's going to definitely be a raucous atmosphere, pretty much
- 2:23Speaker 2: a night game at 5 p.m., especially this time of
- 2:26Speaker 2: the year in East Lansing when this thing kicks off.
- 2:29Speaker 2: So the atmosphere will be good. It's not basketball season
- 2:32Speaker 2: yet either. We've been there in the years past, sometimes
- 2:35Speaker 2: in November or later in October, and hoop season is rolling.
- 2:39Speaker 2: And the crowd kind of takes a little bit of
- 2:41Speaker 2: a hit. But I do think this weekend going out there,
- 2:45Speaker 2: you're going to get as good of a Spartan Stadium
- 2:47Speaker 2: maybe as we've seen in several years, maybe since Pelini
- 2:51Speaker 2: went out there, and I believe it was 2013, lost
- 2:53Speaker 2: a game out there.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Yeah, won the game in 2012 when Taylor Martinez threw
- 2:59Speaker 1: a late touchdown pass to Jamal Turner to win that one,
- 3:01Speaker 1: if you recall. That was a tough ball game. Michigan
- 3:04Speaker 1: State fumbled that one away. But this is a different
- 3:09Speaker 1: football team than we've seen over the last four or
- 3:11Speaker 1: five years when they had three different coaches. And I
- 3:15Speaker 1: saw that in the Notre Dame game. It was far
- 3:16Speaker 1: more disciplined. And even though Pat Fitzgerald said they didn't
- 3:20Speaker 1: tackle very well, I thought they were pretty physical, which
- 3:23Speaker 1: is something Nebraska has not seen so far. What say you?
- 3:27Speaker 2: Yeah, they're going to run the ball at Nebraska and
- 3:29Speaker 2: play that type of style. I mean, and look, LeVar
- 3:31Speaker 2: Woods is their special teams coordinator from Iowa, a long-time
- 3:34Speaker 2: guy that people think could be Iowa's next head coach
- 3:37Speaker 2: after Kirk Ferens retires. So they're... They're a veteran Big
- 3:42Speaker 2: Ten coaching staff in terms of Fitzgerald and LeVar Woods
- 3:45Speaker 2: kind of as the primary assistant coach there. They're building
- 3:49Speaker 2: this thing to play in the Big Ten Conference. I
- 3:53Speaker 2: still think it's probably like a 6-6 team when you
- 3:56Speaker 2: look at Michigan State, but it's year one for them
- 4:00Speaker 2: and what they're doing. They've got good play at the quarterback.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I think defensively, though, will be the challenge. Can Nebraska
- 4:09Speaker 2: find those big explosive plays? They're one of the more
- 4:12Speaker 2: explosive offenses in the country. Is that going to translate
- 4:15Speaker 2: now to a team that is pretty good at taking
- 4:18Speaker 2: away some of those things?
- 4:19Speaker 1: All right, bud. We'll talk to you tomorrow morning about it.
- 4:21Speaker 1: That's Sean Callahan. Remember, the injury report comes out today,
- 4:24Speaker 1: so you can check to see what Nebraska's report says
- 4:27Speaker 1: and Michigan State's report. Several Michigan State players were helped
- 4:30Speaker 1: off the field in the Notre Dame game. How many
- 4:32Speaker 1: of them will be able to play on Saturday? KFAB
- 4:35Speaker 1: Newstime in the morning, 653. Let's not forget Brandon Riley.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Tommy Armstrong to Brandon Riley against Michigan State. That's when
- 4:41Speaker 1: they were good. 2015, yeah. That's when they were good.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Good Jamal Turner reference, though. Hey, look. What do you expect?
- 4:47Speaker 2: Hey, look.
