- 0:56But Brian, we've got to know the enemy.
- 0:58Let's tell the truth about Saturday.
- 1:01A win. A win.
- 1:04Again, what is that? Wait, what is that?
- 1:08We had had one since on Thanksgiving weekend last year.
- 1:13You know, Hokies take care of the Wofford Terriers by a final
- 1:18score of 38 to 6. What went well?
- 1:22We won, Brian. We we got to win.
- 1:26There's there's a nice little one in the the left hand column
- 1:30there. Yeah, I mean that, that that's
- 1:34really it. And I think, you know, we went
- 1:35out there and I don't think we looked great, but I, I think we,
- 1:43we, we. Never looked?
- 1:45Go ahead. What were you going to say?
- 1:48One play that looked great, Kumari Copeland, is set to look.
- 1:51Great. Oh yeah, right.
- 1:53Oh yeah. I mean, Kumari Copeland is is
- 1:56showing that he is the the real deal.
- 1:58He is legit. He is the guy we thought he is.
- 2:02He's not just a weight room warrior.
- 2:04He is going out there and making some noise on that defensive
- 2:08line and making plays in general.
- 2:13So I'm excited about that. I think I think the, you know,
- 2:15the defensive line is definitely been the overall stand out,
- 2:19especially I think the interior, which is probably what we were a
- 2:22little little more concerned about.
- 2:24But they've they've fleshed out and they've they've looked
- 2:26really good really for the duration.
- 2:29I think, you know, we've got some question marks elsewhere on
- 2:31the defense, but those guys have shown out, showed up and, you
- 2:37know, I'm excited to see if we can take some of that
- 2:42consistency and a little bit of that positive.
- 2:46You know, it, it was, it wasn't a a pretty win, but it wasn't an
- 2:50ugly win. It was just, it was just a win.
- 2:53But if we can take some of that momentum into the NC State game,
- 2:56it's true, 'cause you get a little confidence with the win.
- 2:59There, there's always confidence brewing.
- 3:00I'll tell you the other thing that I felt like went well and
- 3:03into that a confidence perspective was how many people
- 3:07played on offense. 8 different ball carriers, 11 players with
- 3:12receptions. Now don't look at the the couple
- 3:14of them, don't look next to it. They're next to the name for the
- 3:17yards. Couple of them got negative or
- 3:19very little. But to me it's that shift to
- 3:23basically say we're not going to stick with something.
- 3:27We mentioned the loyalty piece. If we think you can play, we'll
- 3:31go out and play. And this was a game to do that,
- 3:34right? Well, it's a game you have to do
- 3:36that. And I, I was hoping that we were
- 3:39going to be able to get to some of these guys earlier, you know,
- 3:43particular at the quarterback position.
- 3:45But we didn't. And ultimately, but we, we did
- 3:49get a lot of guys involved in the backfield in the wide
- 3:52receiver position. Yeah.
- 3:55So we, we got to empty the chest a little bit.
- 3:57We probably didn't get to empty the chest as quick as we would
- 4:01have liked, but again, a wins a win.
- 4:05And I think there are some positives to take away from this
- 4:09game. You know, I think there's
- 4:12positives from a fan base perspective.
- 4:14You know, I, I was happy to see, as much as I was concerned about
- 4:20it, I was still happy to see folks show up for that game, for
- 4:24the for the stadium to look mostly filled.
- 4:26I know it wasn't a sell out, but you know, there wasn't an
- 4:30embarrassment in the stands like I think a lot of people were
- 4:34expecting. And I think some of that is the
- 4:36fact that there was movement after ODA.
- 4:41So there there was stills like, OK, well, you're, you're, you're
- 4:45doing something. You're, you're, you're, you're
- 4:47getting the ball rolling on what we need to do and where we need
- 4:49to go with this. We'll come out of here.
- 4:51We're we're we're going to stick with you and, and see this thing
- 4:55through. So, yeah, I, I, I, I, I don't
- 4:59really have a, a lot of done a ton of, of, of what went well,
- 5:04but I think enough went well where you maybe get a little bit
- 5:07of confidence going in the NC State.
- 5:09I think that's important. Yeah, because you know what went
- 5:13well, there's always what went bad and a we did not cover and
- 5:16because, you know, great teams cover.
- 5:19But I think the struggle with me and again, the way I watched
- 5:22this game, had a birthday party going on, had baseball going on.
- 5:27I'm I'm listening in in the car, I'm following my game.
- 5:29I get back home, I watch a little bit of it here.
- 5:31I come back, I watch some condensed version, I watch some
- 5:33other version. I was all over watching this
- 5:35game made my head spin. But what pissed me off and this
- 5:38is where I get so frustrated and it seems like it's a lot with
- 5:42this team is we get inside the 10 and we and we stalk if we had
- 5:47not stalled the first drive of the game where we go for it,
- 5:52which I'm fine with going for it.
- 5:54That's fine. Points off the board.
- 5:57There's more stalls later in the game when I think John kicked
- 6:00what like a it was like a 20 yard field goal something.
- 6:06Like that? Yeah, 20 yard field goals being
- 6:07you were inside and that's just, that's just frustrating because
- 6:13it's like this is a FCS team. You should be able to push it
- 6:18into the end zone. Yeah, and I think, you know,
- 6:23you, you talk about the stall drives and that's, it's not just
- 6:25something that reared its head in this game.
- 6:27That's been a problem for this team all year.
- 6:33It it, it's, it's been a problem for a few years.
- 6:36And when we look back, I mean, we, we talked about, you know,
- 6:41for all of Tyler Bowen's faults, the, the one thing he wasn't
- 6:45afraid to do was he, he understood that we weren't a
- 6:48good red zone team And he'd, he'd dial up some funky shit to
- 6:51get us in the end zone when we got in the red, red area and,
- 6:55and the scoring area, it didn't always work.
- 6:58It was very boom or bust. But at least he wasn't afraid
- 7:00to, to dial it up and see what happens because we have been
- 7:03very poor at completing drives. And it's not just the short
- 7:08yardage stuff. It's really everything like
- 7:10once, once the area to work with gets condensed, we do not do a
- 7:16good job of just imposing our will offensively.
- 7:19Mentality talked about that last week too Toughness, man, I know
- 7:24this one I wish Tally was here but he's not I know Tally texted
- 7:29you me. You kind of agreed with it.
- 7:31There were times, though, still we look sloppy.
- 7:35We looked undisciplined on both sides of the ball and I don't
- 7:39think that's something that's just going to change.
- 7:41I think that's something we have to live with this year.
- 7:45This year, yeah, absolutely. You know, I think there are,
- 7:50there are things you can do to improve as the year goes along,
- 7:56but it's going to be kind of incremental.
- 7:58It's not going to be night and day.
- 8:01You're not going to all of a sudden wake up and Oh, well,
- 8:03we're no longer sloppy and undisciplined.
- 8:05Like there's, there's going to be, you know, incremental steps
- 8:09as you can take throughout the year, whether it's better,
- 8:11better practice habits, you know, whether there's something
- 8:15new implemented during practice that, you know, puts an emphasis
- 8:19on, you know, certain types of, you know, whether it's
- 8:22penalties, whether it's false starts, things like that.
- 8:27Yeah. Speaking for myself, I mean all
- 8:30false starts. Are they they shouldn't.
- 8:33They shouldn't happen, man. It it it Paul starts to be your
- 8:37all mental. It's all mental.
- 8:38And if you if you aren't able to handle the mentality at this
- 8:41point in time, I don't know what to do with you.
- 8:46It's true. So.
- 8:48Yeah. All right.
- 8:49Last thing, you already mentioned about the backup
- 8:51quarterbacks getting to play up and maybe that's just they're
- 8:54trying to build Karen's confidence up because he is
- 8:56going to be the guy. I think he, I think Pop and
- 8:59Rangel should have got time in the 3rd and the 4th.
- 9:01I think the game was well in hand but at least they played
- 9:06because a lot of kids did not play.
- 9:08Now Montgomery was straight up with it and he didn't mention
- 9:11which kids which I am fine with, but he said some of the guys out
- 9:15were injury concerns. Other guys they are having the
- 9:17portal red shirt decisions with and it was it was big names on
- 9:22here, biggest being Caleb Woodson and Quinton Reddish,
- 9:26Sherrod Coble, Christian Ellis, Caleb Brown, Taki Heath, Johnny
- 9:29Garrett, Keelan Adams, Chan's yeah, Brody Cornerstaller and
- 9:36Sherrod Henderson. And and to me that's and I'll
- 9:40say it's bad, but the statement that Montgomery made after was
- 9:46not bad because it wasn't just they're working through some
- 9:49things or some things are going on.
- 9:50But he just straight up said he didn't tell you who.
- 9:53Some people are hurt and some people were having talks with,
- 9:56but it sucks in that it's it's happening.
- 9:59Well, we, we know it was going to happen and like, like, you
- 10:03know, as we said, we were talking with Evan just a little
- 10:05while ago, like we don't know what these, what are actual
- 10:10starting line UPS going to look like this week because of those
- 10:13discussions, right? Like we know what the depth
- 10:16chart is, but we don't know how many of those players are going
- 10:18to be available. You know, it's, it's one of
- 10:24those things that you expect with a coaching change.
- 10:28What you're concerned about is that do you have enough guys
- 10:32behind them to go out there and be competitive?
- 10:35Because I think that's what we want to be the rest of the year.
- 10:37We want to be competitive in these games.
- 10:39We want to show that, you know, there's fight in the in this
- 10:43team, that there's fight to, you know, put the best product out
- 10:47there that we can. As we work through the remaining
- 10:50games on the schedule, I think the expectations for anything,
- 10:55even even a bowl, are really out the window at this point.
- 10:57It's really about just going out there and being competitive week
- 10:59in, week out and let the chips fall where they may.
- 11:03And, and, and I'll make this safe if we make a ball.
- 11:07First of all, Philip Montgomery is not going to be the head
- 11:08coach unless he literally wins out 9 + 1 + 13 in a row.
- 11:16That's the only way he becomes head coach.
- 11:19But if he gets the team to a bowl, there is going to be AG5
- 11:23school, maybe even a lower level P5 school, P4 school.
- 11:27I think he gets a call if we make a ball, but I'm not
- 11:31foreseeing that. I, I, I don't feel like that's
- 11:33happening this year. Let's go real quick, Brian.
- 11:36Anything that you weren't prepared for when you started
- 11:39watching the game or I can't remember if you were watching
- 11:42live. No, you were on travel so you
- 11:44had to watch the recorded version and on anything when you
- 11:47started seeing like. Interesting.
- 11:51I I was surprised that we didn't take more calculated risk with
- 11:55the football in the passing game.
- 11:59There were, there were a lot of taking what we were given.
- 12:02And I get that, you know, they're, they're, they're,
- 12:05they're making sure that they're not getting beat deep.
- 12:07I get that. But at the same time you got to
- 12:12work the intermediate area, you got to be able to push the ball
- 12:14down field. I felt like there was a lot of
- 12:16check downs, particularly the running backs, a lot of running
- 12:19backs involved in the offense, which isn't a bad thing, but I
- 12:22feel like there was yards on the field that we surrendered.
- 12:26Because you know, when we look at the way this offense is
- 12:30running right now and it has run under Kyron, is that there are
- 12:35periods where Kyron is maybe a little too risk averse.
- 12:42And then when he feels like he needs to press, he presses and
- 12:46and does too much and takes too many risk with the football.
- 12:50And we haven't really been able to find that happy medium where
- 12:53those risks are calculated. Those risks are within the
- 12:56framework of the offense, but they're still good plays to make
- 13:00because as long as you're accurate with the football, it's
- 13:04a safe throw to make as long as you put it on the right spot of
- 13:11the receiver. Well, Speaking of that something
- 13:16and this, this came from Shelton.
- 13:17Shelton messaged this to us and he couldn't make the show, but
- 13:20he said mention this some of the he did make some good RPO
- 13:24throws. He was accurate with the check
- 13:27downs. He gave just about on most of
- 13:31his check down throws. He gave everybody an opportunity
- 13:33to get a field especially PJ Prelo a couple times.
- 13:37But the question is can he do that as we get to a higher level
- 13:41in as much as Evan talked about, you know, their struggles, it is
- 13:47a better team in NC State. So with that, but I think
- 13:50something I noticed Brian and I asked you to look at it, there
- 13:54were a. Little bit of wrinkles.
- 13:55A little bit of different formations, a little bit of
- 13:59different way the wide receivers were lined up, which we have not
- 14:03seen in the first three weeks. Now, I don't know if that was
- 14:06because it was Wofford or is that because the head coach is
- 14:09now the offensive coordinator. But I did notice that and and I
- 14:15don't know what that means. That could just be something
- 14:17they've been working towards, right?
- 14:18I mean, you used to mention there used to be plays you guys
- 14:21would have and you'd you'd work on it for like a month and then
- 14:24finally pull it in a game. Yeah.
- 14:26I mean, you're going to have these plays that either are
- 14:32you're kind of setting up for a particular defense that you see
- 14:34on your schedule. It could be that.
- 14:37It could be you want to add in some new wrinkles as you move
- 14:41throughout the year because you want to give different teams
- 14:45different things to see on film. You want to have a little
- 14:48something up your sleeve that every team you're playing hasn't
- 14:51seen. So you're usually going to have
- 14:53one play or one formation, or yes, running, running the same
- 14:58plays out of a couple different formations or with different
- 15:00motion. You're going to see those things
- 15:02get implemented as the season goes along just to give you a
- 15:06different looks and and make sure that, you know, folks
- 15:09aren't able to Telegraph what you're trying to do just because
- 15:11they watch the film. So I mean, Wofford's a good,
- 15:15good way to put put some of that out there because you can kind
- 15:20of run a test run of some of these new things without, you
- 15:23know, as much pressure on you to to execute.
- 15:30And so, you know, seeing some of those play out, OK, I think
- 15:34that's that's a good thing. Obviously, now they're on their
- 15:37own film. So NC State gets to watch that.
- 15:39But hopefully we got a couple new things up our sleeve that
- 15:43Montgomery's going to pull out and we can we can take advantage
- 15:46of that porous defense down there in Raleigh.
- 15:51Yep. So again, we will see that
- 15:54Brian, let's do this because I, I don't know if Tyler's going to
- 15:57jump on or not. What's your key Saturday?
- 16:01Yeah, it was a good seeing Gabe out there.
- 16:03It'd been about a year. That was a good I was, he took a
- 16:06good angle, got a good chase down tackle there.
- 16:09I, I, I like seeing him getting some action in there.
- 16:11That was really good. Really, really, really happy for
- 16:13that kid. You know, regardless of what,
- 16:17you know what happens, you know, after the end of the season,
- 16:19Good to see him getting out there and, you know, doing his
- 16:22thing. Man keys, man keys.
- 16:27You're going to have to score points.
- 16:29This this isn't going to be a team that's going to go out
- 16:33there and you know, like a South Carolina and, and put up, you
- 16:36know, a, a, a low 20 number. I think this team is going to
- 16:39hit 30 against our defense. So we're going to put up some
- 16:42points. All right, I'm, I'm kind of with
- 16:45you on that. I, I, I don't think we can
- 16:47completely stop Hollywood's mothers.
- 16:50It's limit to big ones though, you know, they're really good,
- 16:5310 to 20. If you tell me the biggest 1 he
- 16:56got all night was in that range, I feel better about our chances.
- 17:01Especially you start getting into the 20 to 30 to 30 to 40,
- 17:04more than 40s. Those are just killer.
- 17:08So that's my thing. Limit the big plays.
- 17:12Unfortunately, unless they told you, they did not tell me what
- 17:17they thought. So I'm going to leave Shelton
- 17:19and Tally's predictions off board.
- 17:22I'll go with mine first. I do think we compete better in
- 17:25this game, but with the way the offense is played for most of
- 17:30this season and the way NC State's offense has played most
- 17:34of the season, I just can't see us keeping up.
- 17:37I think they either they jump on us early.
- 17:42I think it's a we, we lose back 12, I say 3523.
- 17:47And it all depends on the mentality of this team.
- 17:50Could we stand there and trade blows until the fourth quarter
- 17:53and then maybe they get a couple late scores?
- 17:54Yeah. Could they just jump out on us
- 17:57early out of OODU? Yeah.
- 17:59But I I, I cannot see a win in this game.
- 18:02Yeah, I don't see a win either. I'm in the same ballpark as you.
- 18:07Give me give me 3627. I think I think we'll we'll
- 18:14we'll score some points. I don't think that's a very good
- 18:16defense. I don't think they're
- 18:18significantly better than even what we saw with with Wofford
- 18:23based on obviously talent is there talent is much better.
- 18:26But I think Wofford is a more sound defense and and definitely
- 18:32we're playing not to not to get beat on the big plays against
- 18:37us, whereas I think we'll be able to hit some big plays on NC
- 18:41State with that inconsistency. We'll just have to see if we can
- 18:45have enough compared to what they'll be able to get on our
- 18:47end. 100% All right, Well, Brian, let's get to some of the
- 18:52news and notes before we jump into big screeners here.
- 18:55And it all started Saturday morning.
- 18:57I don't know how you heard it or when you heard it, but we got
- 19:02some of the news we kind of been expecting.
- 19:05And to Virginia Tech's luck, it was on college game day and
- 19:12that's where Pete Thamel basically said there was an 50
- 19:16million coming down for Virginia Techs in the athletic funds.
- 19:19It's stuff we had felt is going to be coming down based on the
- 19:23WIT meeting back in August and everything transpiring.
- 19:26But then lo and behold, few days later, everything shout out,
- 19:31Doug Bowman, Andy Bitter, Colby, everybody who was getting that
- 19:35stuff. And I know you've got it up
- 19:38here, Brian, but you heard it Saturday, you see it a few days
- 19:43later. You know the BOV means a week
- 19:44from yesterday. What was just your feelings just
- 19:48looking at all that information? I mean, you love seeing the
- 19:53commitment. I'm, I'm hoping that we're able
- 19:57to see all of this through, but seeing the commitment and seeing
- 20:01the. We are dedicating and and
- 20:04focusing on reaching 200 + 1,000,000 over the next 4 fiscal
- 20:08years. You know, starting with fiscal
- 20:12year 27 will be above 200 million, getting to 190 in
- 20:16fiscal year 26. This is a big deal.
- 20:20It, it puts you in a very competitive space, not only in
- 20:24the ACC, but looking at a national product.
- 20:28It, it puts you to very competitive space in that, in
- 20:30that front as well. In, in a space we really haven't
- 20:34been for a very long time, 15 years, 15 years.
- 20:41And really in terms of being this competitive, you know,
- 20:44probably going back to when Beamer had flirtations with UNC
- 20:48and the, you know, the allocations that he got as a
- 20:51result of that is probably the last time we would be this
- 20:54competitive nationally on a financial front.
- 20:59So that's exciting. As we said earlier, I think
- 21:05we've got the money now where we can go out and get get a coach
- 21:09both from a financial commitment and from a structural commitment
- 21:13that you won't turn us down like we had a bunch in the last, last
- 21:18go round. So yeah, I'm excited about this.
- 21:23I think, you know, when you look at the numbers and you look at
- 21:27kind of where things are are heading, it's the exciting time
- 21:30and you know, Speaking of exciting times.
- 21:34Speaking of. Jonathan Tally.
- 21:35What's going on, brother? Oh my God, you're rubbing his
- 21:37head. What is going on?
- 21:41What you what you learn tonight. Nothing yet.
- 21:44I didn't learn a damn thing. Oh.
- 21:47My God. I didn't learn nothing is is we
- 21:51do we got a coach yet or we got a.
- 21:56Bruce Arians went on McAfee though, so you know.
- 21:58Yeah, I'm saying a little bit about that.
- 22:00We. Just talking about the money
- 22:02right now, talent, that's what we didn't got to.
- 22:04We didn't talk about the money and how much.
- 22:07Basically Brown was just going, how excited he was about we're
- 22:11finally being for real about this.
- 22:14I know Jim you put in there, Jim said.
- 22:16It should have been done five years ago.
- 22:20I agreed at least, but. You know what, what did you feel
- 22:23when you start seeing the numbers and it's like
- 22:26190,000,000 / 200 million knowing when you start getting
- 22:31into that, you're up there in the upper echelon of the ACC and
- 22:34probably top 25. In Investor 25, yeah.
- 22:38I know it's just like, you know, when you first start hearing
- 22:41about it because you know, I mean, I ain't saying we
- 22:43insiders, but we may hear about some stuff a little bit more
- 22:46than it's put out or before it's put out.
- 22:50So when you start hearing about it, it's not like you doubt the
- 22:52people that's talking with you. But at the same time, it's like,
- 22:57I've been down this road so many times with Virginia Tech.
- 22:59I don't believe it until it's like pen on paper.
- 23:02You know what I'm saying? I see some concrete and then
- 23:06once you start seeing some things really start getting into
- 23:08motion. It's like what, where is it
- 23:12being like, what, what are we waiting for?
- 23:14Why we been, we should have been doing this like we just never
- 23:18capitalized on our moments. You know what I'm saying?
- 23:21Never capitalized on our moments.
- 23:22So don't want to seem ungrateful, but it's like, thank
- 23:25you for finally doing something. And I, I said, even when Frank
- 23:30left, because I, I was in the, you know, the maybe the
- 23:32majority, excuse me, minority when Frank was here, just like,
- 23:37man, we got to get a new coach. We got to go a new route.
- 23:40We got to try something, then Forinte came, then probably
- 23:42came. And it's like whenever a legend
- 23:44leaves, sometimes it takes a while to get that, to get it
- 23:49right. You know what I'm saying?
- 23:51I'm thinking with how bad things are being and how we are still
- 23:55perceived, they finally said, OK, if this is going to work, if
- 24:00we're going to capitalize on the games, we got to put some money
- 24:04into this and we got to take it serious.
- 24:06So I don't want to hear about no coordinator hires.
- 24:10I don't want to hear about no secondary.
- 24:12Like we got to swing for the fence and you know, maybe get a
- 24:16triple. We can't hit no single or no
- 24:18double though. We got to got to at least get a
- 24:20triple with it so. Well, hold on.
- 24:22You joining us later. I just got to put this in here
- 24:24just for you, for my man Andretti.
- 24:27Oh Lord, we don't. You know what a people people
- 24:32been talking about saving. I just seen his name pop up
- 24:35everywhere. You got to understand though,
- 24:37man, like he had the job, he was at Alabama.
- 24:41Why would he just go back to college football to coach?
- 24:44Like he's done everything. He is the greatest.
- 24:48So even if he, I mean, he has to win a championship wherever he
- 24:52goes, you know, I don't know if Nick wants to do it.
- 24:54I think he left because of NIL, you know, So I don't think that
- 24:58he wants to have to deal with that, and I don't blame him.
- 25:01So you got to go with the new way when you got to find
- 25:04somebody who is going to be able to coach #1 but it's going to be
- 25:09able to, you know, get the most out of Blacksburg, too.
- 25:14Yep. A. 100% you know the one thing I
- 25:17I watched it, I didn't watch the whole Bruce Arians interview,
- 25:20but I watched that clip that has popped up seemingly 100 million
- 25:23times in the last day and Bruce talking about we're getting the
- 25:27general manager, then we're going to find the coach.
- 25:29Well, that's first of all, finally that's the right way to
- 25:31do it. We got the person who's going to
- 25:33be running the the money side of it has got to be the person who
- 25:37hires because they've got to be able to work hand in hand.
- 25:40But also this, I think the way we're setting it up, you
- 25:47mentioned coach. I think it's going to take a lot
- 25:52of that pressure off of a head coach to be, oh, you got to be
- 25:57the NIO guy. You got to know how much money
- 25:58they're going to get. You got to know their value.
- 26:00You got to do all this shit and having that.
- 26:03I don't think we're going to get Nick Saban.
- 26:06I'll say that right now. Few weeks from now, we'll let
- 26:08y'all come on and y'all speak to people.
- 26:10We'll keep a tally of how many y'all think savings coming.
- 26:13But I think that might be one of the biggest sell points if we
- 26:16set this up right. Listen, are you going to have to
- 26:19go shake hands, kiss babies, all that stuff?
- 26:21Are you going to have to go into high schools and meet kids and
- 26:23make sure they're OK and meet families?
- 26:25Absolutely. That's your job as a head coach.
- 26:28Are you going to have to go over the top with that shit that that
- 26:31you've had to do for the last 40 years of college football?
- 26:35Right. In this era, maybe not in this
- 26:39era, if you got the structure right.
- 26:41Listen, you you're going to have to close some deals, you're
- 26:44going to have to shake some hands.
- 26:46But your primary job is going to go go coach, go coach this team
- 26:51to the best possible athletes. Yeah.
- 26:55Yeah. And I mean, in the new age, talk
- 26:58about money or talk about this like it, it really doesn't take
- 27:03as long as it used to to build a team, you know what I'm saying?
- 27:08Or just again, I talked about Florida State and then what they
- 27:11did, you know, a couple of years ago.
- 27:13And I was like, we, we ain't Florida State.
- 27:16But like the similar trajectory could have been, OK, they lose
- 27:22this and they did this and then all of a sudden, boom, they get
- 27:24these guys in, they have a great year.
- 27:27Florida State's going to be one of those teams, you know what
- 27:29I'm saying? It's kind of a who did we get in
- 27:31the portal? Because recruiting don't even
- 27:34matter no more. Like high school recruiting
- 27:36don't even matter no more because it it's so I mean it, it
- 27:40still does matter. I don't want to say that, but
- 27:42not as much because when a coach comes in, it's like it don't
- 27:46really matter what his high school recruiting class is.
- 27:49He can go out and get 40 players and field A-Team to be, you
- 27:54know, go from 2:00 and 11:00 Florida State last year to
- 27:57undefeated and top ten this year.
- 28:00You know what I'm saying? Like you can, you can do that.
- 28:03Somebody just put it in the in the chat.
- 28:04Look at Texas Tech, they dropped so much money and it don't work
- 28:08that way all the time. But like Virginia Tech, if you
- 28:12go get the athletes and you have somebody that we had somebody
- 28:16that wasn't coaching them and we still was close to winning
- 28:18games, you know what I'm saying? Like if you can go get the
- 28:23talent and where we play, it'll be a easier path than some of
- 28:27the other places, you know, the, the SEC schools, you know, the
- 28:31the Big 10 schools, things like that.
- 28:33So I'm just excited that they are at least looking at it like
- 28:40this is the cash cow. We got it to protect it.
- 28:42So they're. Looking at it as a business now,
- 28:45it is. You have to.
- 28:46It is no It effectively is no longer an athletic program for a
- 28:50school. It is a multi $1,000,000
- 28:52business statement about the school, the region and the state
- 28:56in general. Says a lot because I think they
- 28:59know and I think this is probably politicians.
- 29:03I mean, you got Aaron Rouse doing stuff.
- 29:05You got Younkin who's a big sports fan up here.
- 29:08They understand right now the two biggest universities in
- 29:12state of Virginia sports wise, they're not in the two big
- 29:16conferences. And what does that do?
- 29:19They were like, oh, that's nothing.
- 29:20It's like it's billions of dollars.
- 29:22It's revenue, it's eyes on your state.
- 29:25It it's a whole different ball game now.
- 29:27And I'm not saying we're going to get into Big 10 or the SEC,
- 29:30but if you're seeing this kind of stuff done and the school
- 29:34saying we're willing to fund money, our donors are willing to
- 29:36give money. And if the state's willing to
- 29:38back support, go ahead, go ahead.
- 29:41No, People look at things like, you know, wins and losses, you
- 29:45know, schools and things like that.
- 29:46But if you really like get down to the nuts and bolts of like
- 29:49how the workings of the of the communities go a place like
- 29:55freaking Blacksburg, Tuscaloosa, you know what I'm saying?
- 30:00Tuscaloosa ain't got nothing there.
- 30:02You know, Auburn, Auburn ain't got nothing there.
- 30:05Like for real, if that school is not having games and people
- 30:09coming in for game day, people staying in hotels, people
- 30:12renting cars, people Airbnb and people going to restaurants.
- 30:17Like when Blacksburg is when when Virginia Tech's not good,
- 30:21Blacksburg is going to take a hit.
- 30:24You may still have some stuff coming through there, but it's
- 30:27going to take a hit when you're when Blacksburg is jumping, when
- 30:30Virginia Tech is at least competitive like that, you stand
- 30:35to make a lot of money in that area.
- 30:37And then that helps not just Blacksburg, but the surrounding
- 30:41areas because I've been to, I've been to plenty of games and I
- 30:44stayed in Bristol before, I've stayed in Christiansburg, I've
- 30:46stayed in Withville, I've stayed in places around Blacksburg
- 30:51because I couldn't get the Blacksburg.
- 30:53So it it, it's a bigger thing than just a football team
- 30:57winning and losing games. So the people that's up top now
- 31:01I start looking at things going, well, how much money are we do?
- 31:05How much money did we lose because we're doing this and how
- 31:08much money can? Yeah, how much?
- 31:10Did finally did somebody finally say you've lost $300 million?
- 31:14You lost. Exactly.
- 31:16You lost. All this money.
- 31:17You've had a down program, so you've had, you know, and then
- 31:21it made all the stadiums fooled up.
- 31:22But still, are those people traveling?
- 31:24Are they bringing, you know what I'm saying?
- 31:26Is it overly full? Are we really booking up just
- 31:29because you say you got this many people in the stadium?
- 31:32Are you booking up hotels? There's restaurants being
- 31:35booked, there's people getting mad and leaving, going home.
- 31:37It's more to it than just that. So I tell you what, whatever
- 31:43that I think, it's the Hard Rock that's in Bristol when if we
- 31:46winning, I'm going in there spending money.
- 31:49If we losing, I don't spend nothing.
- 31:51I want to go to the casino and spend money when we're doing
- 31:54good. I'm I'm I'm excited, but you
- 31:56know, when you're not it, it just changes the trajectory of
- 31:59what people are going to do. So I think the people up top
- 32:02finally kind of understand that or they understood it because
- 32:04they was making money. But when it starts hitting their
- 32:07pockets, they like, hold on for a minute.
- 32:09Let's let's figure out what's going on.
- 32:10So. There you go, Brian.
- 32:13Anything else you want to add before we jump to the next piece
- 32:16here? With Yeah, yeah.
- 32:17So I'll, I'll just talk about a little bit.
- 32:19So I mean one of the things that we talked about was kind of the
- 32:21funding breakdown. You know, there's going to be
- 32:25institutional support, there's going to be student fee
- 32:30increases. We got bridge funding, which
- 32:32means we are taking out some loans and then we got
- 32:37philanthropy which is always been a part of athletics fund
- 32:41rating, right. So we we talked about and what
- 32:45it sounds like is that when we talk about the philanthropy part
- 32:47of it, it sounds like year one that fiscal year 26 already has
- 32:52been either collected or is already aligned and, and and
- 33:00spoken for. Obviously we don't need to
- 33:05restructure some of the things in Hokie Club to make sure that
- 33:07we're hitting those marks for 27 through 29 to keep that funding
- 33:13allocation rising. And then we look at student
- 33:16fees. I know people hate student fees,
- 33:17but at this point, everybody, every, everybody's got student
- 33:21fees. I mean, it sucks, it's a
- 33:22necessary evil, but it it's one of those things that it looks
- 33:27like, you know, you go from. Yeah, really you're, you're not
- 33:31really pulling any revenue from 2.
- 33:32Fees right now lowest, still the lowest even after the
- 33:35additional. Funding, yeah.
- 33:36So you're still, you're still putting yourself in a pretty
- 33:39good position relative to your competition in terms of not, not
- 33:43crippling your students. I mean, nobody, nobody likes
- 33:46you're giving 18 to 22 year olds additional debt.
- 33:50I mean, I get it. But at the end of the day, if
- 33:55you want to be competitive, that's going to be part of it.
- 33:58Yeah. It's just where, it's just where
- 33:59we are. You know the other thing, Brian,
- 34:03you were talking about the philanthropy and a lot of people
- 34:05are questioning, well, how are you going to do that?
- 34:07A lot of people, a lot of people, well, people are asking.
- 34:12If you go on the Twitter timeline, there are a lot of
- 34:14people asking how's this? Say the name you'd.
- 34:17Say the name. You know who it is.
- 34:20You want to say the name Charlie?
- 34:22I ain't saying no name I. Ain't saying a name, but these
- 34:24people saying things and here's the thing, when you have a
- 34:27vision and a plan like this and you see that Lance reliable,
- 34:30that's donors. Well, how do we know this money
- 34:32is going to come in? Well, AI got a feeling when they
- 34:35gut the Hokie Club and about I'm going to say about a month, give
- 34:39it a month. They're going to gut Hokie Club
- 34:40and get whole new bunch of people working that that's one
- 34:44way. But my second is there are some
- 34:47big donors. There are some big people who
- 34:49give a shit about sports and give a lot of money.
- 34:52I've got a feeling that the discussions have been with them.
- 34:56All right, let's say it's 30. I can't remember the exact
- 34:58numbers, if you remember the exact numbers for 2728 or 29 for
- 35:02land to be laid on me, but I got a feeling that they've discussed
- 35:06with them. We are going to try to get as
- 35:08much as we can from everyone for this.
- 35:11If we can't, will you, y'all know who I'm talking about?
- 35:14Some of those people who are really rich have a lot of money.
- 35:18Can you backfill if we're short? And I got a feeling a lot of
- 35:21those folks have said, yeah, if you're going to do all this
- 35:24other stuff, if you're going to give us more money here, if
- 35:28you're going to raise student fees to give more money, if
- 35:30you're going to do this to give more money, you know what?
- 35:33We're willing to make that investment.
- 35:35Yeah, but I'll say this, this is where the the GM and coach hire
- 35:39become very important. 100%. Because you, you have to have #1
- 35:44the structure out the gate for them to be confident to make the
- 35:48initial investment #2 at some point in fiscal year 28 and 29.
- 35:55If you're not winning fucking games that extra at the end that
- 35:59hey, I'll fill in the gap, that might be a little harder to get
- 36:03if you're not seeing the return on that investment.
- 36:06That means people got to get fired again.
- 36:08It's going to be a brutal cycle of it.
- 36:10It's going to be a brutal cycle. I'm just saying that's why the
- 36:14GM and the coach hire are right. You got to get that right.
- 36:16You got to get the right people in the gate.
- 36:18You got to get the right players in here and you got to win games
- 36:20in about by by year three, or at least you got to be seeing that
- 36:24upward trajectory that we never really saw under Brent Pratt.
- 36:27You got to see it. You got to see return on
- 36:30investment and then the money will keep coming in.
- 36:33If you are seeing results, the money will come in a whole lot
- 36:37easier than seeing the same shit happen despite having 50 million
- 36:43more in the coffers. Andrea, you got to decide who
- 36:46you want you want IRV or you want you want statement.
- 36:50He said. Both of them.
- 36:51Both of them. He, he, he ain't got to worry
- 36:53about it. They don't have, they don't have
- 36:55somebody in a hokey jacket for him.
- 36:58Artist knows who it is. Y'all know my opinion.
- 37:01I I stated it early and I'll sit on that and again give it a
- 37:04couple of weeks we're going to let y'all come on here and give
- 37:06you all's opinions on it all right let's flip real quick
- 37:10announced earlier this week the ACC officially is going to a
- 37:13nine game schedule with an odd number of teams.
- 37:18I don't know how they're going to figure that out.
- 37:20That ain't my job. Some.
- 37:21Teams are going to be playing eight every year and then going,
- 37:24you know, we already have the weird shit that happened with NC
- 37:27State and Virginia this year. I mean, we're going to have.
- 37:29Yeah. Probably more of that I would
- 37:32imagine is is going to be some of what happens.
- 37:34Yeah, I don't know. And and then, well, on top of
- 37:37that, you get 9 and either you're going to play one more
- 37:41power 14 or if you're doing the 8, you get 2 more Power four
- 37:44teams. So for is it next year, are we
- 37:49losing JMU or we drop an ODU because they're going to give
- 37:51the new coach BMI as an offering of sacrifice?
- 37:55Just real quick, who's going bye bye?
- 37:59I don't know man, I feel like it depends on who the coach is
- 38:05because it depending on who the coach is.
- 38:06I mean they may want to get rid of VMI.
- 38:11OK. And so play ODU and JMU.
- 38:14Yeah, I mean, because if you get rid of ODU, it might seem like
- 38:17you're ducking them. They don't whoop your ass all
- 38:19these years. So depending on who the coach
- 38:21is, if they come in and they have ties to the program,
- 38:24they'll be like, yeah, we want to play them again.
- 38:28I mean, at this point, ODUI mean that it's it's their Super Bowl
- 38:32every year, so and and they've done damn near 500 in it.
- 38:39So you can't really fault them for wanting to play that game.
- 38:44And at this point, again, we talked about it before the
- 38:49season started. It's like we finally won enough
- 38:51where we could push out on going to Norfolk, yeah, but now we
- 38:56went and got our ass kicked this year, so it's going to be a
- 38:59whole lot harder to push out of the series all together when you
- 39:04just got your ass kicked at your own place so.
- 39:09True. It's it's, it's going to be
- 39:12interesting to see how that series shakes out.
- 39:14It's. Going to be good for the I guess
- 39:16the GM to figure out. Yeah, yeah, GM is going to have
- 39:19some things to think about and talk about and weigh some, some
- 39:23options and and decide whether, you know, saving face and
- 39:28playing this thing out and you're actually getting some
- 39:31wins in it is is worth the trade off of not getting a, you know,
- 39:35higher level, you know, P4 competition.
- 39:39If Bema comes in, he's going to want to play LDU.
- 39:42If somebody said Signetti, he comes in, he's going to play JM.
- 39:48Whoever the JMU coach is, now that people have been throwing
- 39:51his name out, probably going to play JMU.
- 39:54Hey, I want Signetti too but I don't know how feasible that is
- 39:59at this point. He's at a spot where he's
- 40:02getting Big 10 money with. You know, he's hitting, he's
- 40:07he's exceeding his expectations by big margin early on.
- 40:13And I know once you, once you set expectations, things shift.
- 40:17But right now he can. He can stay at at Indiana and
- 40:21win eight games every year and punch up every one or two years
- 40:26for 1/2 decade or a decade and then ride off into the sunset.
- 40:29100%. I know we ain't going to talk
- 40:31about coaches too much, but I do want to say this because I don't
- 40:34have no opinion on it and I know we haven't said nothing.
- 40:37Somebody put the name out, Pat Fitzgerald, and I didn't even
- 40:43think about it. He got all the.
- 40:46Shit cleared up. I didn't.
- 40:47I didn't think about what he done.
- 40:49I didn't think about all the stuff that he went through
- 40:51afterwards. I'm going to say I'm going to
- 40:53ask Curtis, because I know you know about this.
- 40:57What do you think about Pat Fitzgerald?
- 41:02All right, well, first of all, he got exonerated of all the
- 41:05shit. So first of all, we mentioned.
- 41:07No car wash. There was no car wash, Dickens.
- 41:10No car wash Dickens on his watch, right?
- 41:13Like I said, I ain't really did a whole bunch of studying on it.
- 41:16So he wasn't the one. He wasn't the one it was.
- 41:19Not him. He got exonerated.
- 41:21It was going on, but he did not know about it.
- 41:24And he? He had no noodle play going on.
- 41:26Curtis, is that what you're? Saying play going on, I'm
- 41:31thinking guy like Fitzgerald, if he becomes the coach, you're not
- 41:37upset because you know, you look at his track record at
- 41:40Northwestern and I mean winning 10 games 123 times, winning nine
- 41:47games like 3 times in his career there and they don't give shit
- 41:52about it. He also mentality wise,
- 41:56undersized linebacker. I mean, he fits.
- 42:01He fits what you want that he puts blue collar mentality.
- 42:07If we, if you, if you told me Thanksgiving Day, tally me, we
- 42:12all sitting around watching the game and you call, take Curtis,
- 42:18Brian, call me now. I just heard something and you
- 42:21told me it was him. I wouldn't be upset.
- 42:23Right, Brian, what you got to say?
- 42:27I'm fine with Pat. You know, we could do better.
- 42:32I I think we could do better. I think we could do a whole lot
- 42:35worse too. And I told y'all, I told y'all I
- 42:39wasn't going to get y'all in. No coaching talk.
- 42:40So I'm not trying to go that route just yet.
- 42:44But I do want to just start because I know people.
- 42:46I think I'd have Dan Mullen a little bit ahead of Pat, but I
- 42:49was just about to say behind him.
- 42:51Yeah. What we got to understand is,
- 42:54yeah, that's going to be some extra money, but we're still in
- 42:56a certain position. There are some coaches that are
- 42:59out of the league that we're not going to get.
- 43:01There's some coaches that are beneath where we are that we
- 43:04don't need to look at getting. Just my opinion.
- 43:07But when you start thinking of somebody said Fitzgerald, I was
- 43:10like, but then I started thinking, I was like, that's
- 43:13probably about the coach range that we'll go, you know what I'm
- 43:18saying, or somebody like a damn Mullen.
- 43:20And then you have so many people to say all these coaches can't
- 43:22or he didn't do this. He you got to go look at some
- 43:26stuff for yourself because when you start looking at somebody
- 43:29like a, a Dan Mullen, he didn't have a great time at Florida.
- 43:32He didn't recruit bad like people say it but didn't.
- 43:35Have a great hold on. No, no, no.
- 43:36That's where the bullshit comes in with Dan Mullen in Florida.
- 43:39So everybody keeps saying he didn't have a good record before
- 43:43and I, I will no put Jason's up real quick so I can say this.
- 43:47My see I I didn't even want to start talking because I knew
- 43:50names. Were going to come up.
- 43:51That's it. I'm I'm going to end us on with
- 43:54Dan Mullen talking. We going we going to keep moving
- 43:57because again, I want to have a night where we have this
- 43:59conversation for two hours. But Dan Mullen at Florida, ten
- 44:04wins, 10. What?
- 44:07Oh Jesus Christ, Jim, ten wins his first year, eleven wins his
- 44:12second year. COVID year, he went 8:00 and
- 44:144:00. He went 5 and 6 to 2021 and got
- 44:19fired. He went to the Peach Bowl, the
- 44:20Orange Bowl, and the Cotton Bowl and squashed it.
- 44:22Three years and he got fired. People didn't like him in
- 44:24Florida because you know what he wanted?
- 44:26He was probably an asshole to somebody and they were like,
- 44:28well, fuck you, we'll fire you. Where have they been since 2022?
- 44:33So two more things to hit. Spring portal is gone.
- 44:39Spring portal's gone. It's going to be one time a
- 44:41year. That time is not set.
- 44:43I think it's going to land like February 1.
- 44:49So let me ask this question. And I mean, I know we had talked
- 44:52about this before. You triggered me, Jason.
- 44:57You triggered. Me how?
- 44:58How is How is that landing in terms of transferring in for
- 45:03spring ball with the window being after?
- 45:12Drop dates for right, spring semester, right?
- 45:16That's that's going to be crazy, right?
- 45:18Like what do you do? Because I mean, I know that the,
- 45:22the original talk was like backing up, backing up the
- 45:27window, expanding the window, but but keeping it, you know,
- 45:33within the spring semester, but before the start of the spring
- 45:36semester. I, I just don't know what that's
- 45:38going to look like. No idea and you maybe some
- 45:42people with more knowledge than I do you have have have better
- 45:45ideas of what that's going to look like, but.
- 45:47Because you can't have it pushed.
- 45:48You can't push it. I mean, it's not going to be
- 45:50there. And then if you don't get them
- 45:52in, then they can't participate. So you're behind.
- 45:58It's like, when do you when does that portal work?
- 46:02I don't know. And and then I mean.
- 46:05This year National championship is January 19th, January 20th.
- 46:09Yeah. It's going to be DAF national
- 46:11championship game. Through mid February, no.
- 46:16No that like or the 21st last day you can go into port will be
- 46:21like the 21st. OK.
- 46:23Something like that. They basically give that week
- 46:26because most schools, your ad drops probably going to be
- 46:29around the last of January. And again, there's going to be
- 46:35no perfect solution. It's going to be pissed off
- 46:36people. And you know, maybe they start
- 46:39looking at incremental rules that you know what, you can take
- 46:42a six hour online course class and be enrolled in the school
- 46:46and come here and play football. Got to think like that.
- 46:51One last piece before we get to big screeners.
- 46:54The Wisconsin Virginia Tech game has been moved from Lane Stadium
- 46:58to Charlotte. Talley is extremely happy
- 47:00because he cuts his drive time significantly from from us.
- 47:06I'll take that. A lot more hotels than
- 47:08Charlotte. Too, how old will we be in in
- 47:11whenever that game's played? Fifty I'll.
- 47:13Be I'll be I'll just turn 48. Hey man, we might be.
- 47:19We might be flying to them then, Curtis Cars.
- 47:23Cars might be flying by then. Or might.
- 47:26Be flying a long way away, dawg. But it's in Charlotte and
- 47:31apparently the money's good. I was joking with Brian earlier.
- 47:36You know, I hate neutral site games, I really do.
- 47:38But if you're telling me you get an extra seven 8,000,000 bucks
- 47:42for playing there, man that is a good payment for a defensive and
- 47:46offensive lineman. Sign me up for a couple of them.
- 47:49Exactly. Screw it.
- 47:52Yeah, all. Right tally real quick before we
- 47:56flip over to big screeners. Your prediction for the game in
- 48:00your key for the Hokies with the NC State game.
- 48:02You missed a really good Evan was nailing it tonight from the
- 48:06podcast. I might have to go back and go
- 48:08back and listen to it. I'm going to say, man, just
- 48:11because of where we are, probably say, you know,
- 48:14somewhere about 3521, somewhere around that range, North
- 48:18Carolina State, just because I don't think we have enough.
- 48:21I don't know who's playing. I don't know who's going to sit
- 48:23out. I don't know who's ready to
- 48:24transfer and I don't know what our office is going to do.
- 48:29So 3521 somewhere around there. I know that defense ain't good.
- 48:35That's the only reason I'm saying we scored 21.
- 48:38So I think we, you know, scored some.
- 48:40But you know, I don't know that we stopped themselves.
- 48:43Keys for us is going to be for me.
- 48:46It's just where we are. I mean, just getting better, get
- 48:51better then we've been in the losses.
- 48:55If it's going to be a loss, make it getting better, getting more
- 48:59disciplined. We were still undisciplined last
- 49:03game. So get a little bit more
- 49:05disciplined and then you know, moving to the next games and try
- 49:08to steal a couple of these games because we still can win some
- 49:11games. I mean, you don't, you just
- 49:12can't win one game, you know what I'm saying?
- 49:14You got to find some games on the schedule and win them, you
- 49:17know, no matter who's walking out there because a lot of these
- 49:19kids are getting paid. A lot of these kids are getting
- 49:21trying to get film. You know, a lot of these kids,
- 49:24it's that last who are on. So it's still a lot to play for
- 49:27for those young men and coaches too.
- 49:28Everybody's auditioning. So if you don't audition, put a
- 49:32good audition up, you know what I'm saying?
- 49:33So steal some games, man, go steal some games.
- 49:37I don't really think it's a key or my key is just to be more
- 49:41disciplined. But I just feel like we got
- 49:45nothing to lose. The coach is gone, you know the
- 49:48players are looking for what they want to be and what they
- 49:50want to do and you know who's coming in.
- 49:53It's a lot riding on that to what nucleus we look like we
- 49:56have next year. So and go create a name for
- 49:58yourself. If you get the opportunity to
- 50:00get in and make a big play, go do it.
- 50:02Go do it. Awesome.
- 50:05All righty, Brian went. I didn't even notice your tag
- 50:10tonight. All right, Brian, let's talk
- 50:17about it because I mentioned this earlier in in the chat.
- 50:22I can't remember if you saw it. This is one of the best sports
- 50:25weekends of the year. So first of all, I love golf.
- 50:31Ryder Cups this weekend, Ryder Cups, the best of been in golf
- 50:33bar none, USA versus Europe. Usually there's there's going to
- 50:38be people getting each other's grills.
- 50:40It's the one time you get close to your fist fight on a golf
- 50:43course. Secondly, MLB is coming down to
- 50:48the wire. There's like 3 to 4 races still
- 50:51going on that will be decided Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
- 50:56NF LS going on. We all love it as Ken Ward
- 50:59treating you tally. Don't answer that because you
- 51:00don't throw things at me. He ain't doing bad.
- 51:04Though Daniel Jones season oh. God.
- 51:09Y'all been fixed Daniel Jones up there in Indy's crazy.
- 51:11But then we still, when you started, when y'all started
- 51:16looking through to sleep this weekend, was it just like Jeezy
- 51:20Peasy? Like it's just good.
- 51:24We only picked four games and that's probably five more we
- 51:26could have picked easily out there this weekend.
- 51:29Yeah. And it's like, it's one of those
- 51:30weeks where it's like, there's not a ton of like top 25 versus
- 51:34top 25, but there's like a dozen really good matchups, even if
- 51:38it's not those, you know, marquee games.
- 51:40Yeah, and you got some big marquees too.
- 51:42So Brian, you got to screen up. Me and Brian have had some O and
- 51:47four weeks to kick their ass. Tally rally back last week, two
- 51:50games under 500. Bet with Sheldon you won't lose
- 51:53money. So where are we going?
- 51:56Hey, Hey, Nate, I'm leading it off.
- 51:59It is going to be 330. I'll be getting back in from
- 52:02baseball to watch LSU, Ole Miss and got Ole Miss getting.
- 52:11Hold on, Brian, I think you got this one messed up with the
- 52:14line. Hold on.
- 52:16It's all right. It's all right.
- 52:18The Ole Miss was getting 1 1/2. Yeah, Ole Miss is giving 1 1/2
- 52:23I. Thought giving 1 1/2 excuse me
- 52:25hang. On.
- 52:26It's all right. That's why I'm pulling up here.
- 52:28The Ole Miss is giving Ole Miss -1 1/2.
- 52:32Yeah, it's that Ole Miss Lane Kiffin's just waiting for Billy
- 52:37Napier to get fired because everybody know Lane wants to.
- 52:40Florida job, bigger budget, better state to recruit from,
- 52:45lot more expectations. But for me, I think LSU is just
- 52:50a morale rounded team. Only Lane 1 1/2.
- 52:53I think they went by a touchdown.
- 52:55Shelton took LSU. Shelton took LSU talent.
- 53:01Old piss baby. Oh, piss.
- 53:06I'm all right with LSU as well. I think.
- 53:09I think they're going to get this thing done.
- 53:13I was, I was, I liked it with the the plus 3 1/2.
- 53:16So at least the the the the -1 1/2 for sure.
- 53:21But it's better now, like definitely, definitely LSU, All
- 53:24right, Tally taking a point and a half.
- 53:26We are laying it. I Who's next?
- 53:32Oh, let's be Alabama and Georgia.
- 53:34Boy, that's the one everybody's talking about down here.
- 53:36So yeah, we're going to see who's good and who's who's not.
- 53:41I guess. You know, if Alabama loses, they
- 53:44go down to games or they, they, they got 2 losses for the season
- 53:47and they'll be getting ready to get rid of their coach depending
- 53:50on how bad they lose. But I don't think we're going to
- 53:54see that. I think Alabama is going to take
- 53:56this game, so I'll pick Bama. Upset between the edges stand.
- 54:03I'm not taking Alabama. I think I think George is going
- 54:06to win by at least a touchdown here.
- 54:09I don't. I don't think this Alabama team
- 54:11is it. I don't necessarily think that
- 54:13this Georgia team is world beaters, but I think they're
- 54:16better than where Alabama is at this point.
- 54:17So give me Georgia. Yeah, I'm with you.
- 54:21Alabama played one team with talent similar to theirs.
- 54:25They looked lost on the field. They got smacked by the
- 54:28Seminoles and just it's 3 1/2 line, that's not enough.
- 54:34So I'm going to take Georgia as well.
- 54:37And Shelton is going, he's riding with us, riding with us.
- 54:41Tally on an island twice. And by the way, if Cannon Dubois
- 54:45were to get fired, I would be willing to definitely let him
- 54:48get high because I think that kid can coach.
- 54:50That man can coach just like crazy down there where Tally
- 54:53lives. A different level man, true.
- 54:58It's a whole different beast for sure.
- 55:00What's next? Oh, Shelton, not here, but this
- 55:06is a sneaky good game on Friday night at 9:00.
- 55:08I don't know if I can stay up and watch the end of it.
- 55:11I'll try maybe TCU going to the Valley of the Sun to play the
- 55:16Sun Devils. 2 1/2 point favorite here.
- 55:21Shelton says good devils. Sun Devils for.
- 55:27Tally. For me, who did I pick on this?
- 55:32Hold on one second here. For me, I took TCU.
- 55:37Don't really know why. I just seen how the coach had to
- 55:40look at his eyes when he beat Bill Belichick down to the
- 55:42ground. So I said, hey, I'm going to
- 55:45pick them. Yeah, I I'm with you and.
- 55:48And for the same reason. He put his foot on Belichick's
- 55:52throat and went for the jugular there, man.
- 55:55So I think that's going to do enough to to take care of the
- 56:00Sun Devils. Yeah, I'm with y'all.
- 56:03I'm with y'all. TCU not enough.
- 56:07They beat SMU, who's supposed to be a pretty good team this year,
- 56:11and they they curb stomp the Tar Heels.
- 56:14So that is a small line to a team I already like to win.
- 56:19Give me TCU O'Brien. Oh hell, what the hell happened
- 56:26here? OK, well, you all know what
- 56:28we're doing now. Florida State.
- 56:33Florida State head to Charlottesville 6 1/2 point dogs
- 56:39here. As you can see, I've got Florida
- 56:43State in this one I don't even like.
- 56:45It's kind of funny the dialogue around can can UVA fill their
- 56:49stadium for a a high profile game like this.
- 56:53I don't know if they can and I definitely don't think they can
- 56:55beat Florida State there. So I've got the Seminoles.
- 57:00Same. Yeah, same.
- 57:01I'll go ahead, Curtis. I'm just staying same.
- 57:05Go ahead yes so for me, you know, I think Florida state's
- 57:09got a good team this year. You know, I I'm not saying
- 57:11they're going to, you know, go to the playoffs.
- 57:13I don't know what happened, but I just, I'm not saying
- 57:17Virginia's bad by no means. I haven't watched them enough to
- 57:20know that, but I just think Florida State's on a little bit
- 57:22different level. So I think they're probably
- 57:25going to win this game by about two touchdowns if I had to look
- 57:27at it. But I'll be watching it Friday
- 57:31night. I'll I'll, I'll take a look.
- 57:33Well, I say I'll be watching it. My kids homecoming at the high
- 57:36school. So I'll be paying attention to
- 57:38it. I don't know how much of it I
- 57:39get to watch. I I think the thing for me is
- 57:42that Virginia's got an offense, FS U's got a team.
- 57:46Yeah, that's it. FSU's got a team and you know,
- 57:52already played a significantly more talented team in Alabama,
- 57:57beaten by two scores. They played nobodies and beat
- 58:01the dog piss out of East Texas A&M and Kent State.
- 58:05I mean, that's old school, 77, three and 6610.
- 58:10That's just beating the crap out of someone.
- 58:12And yes, it is. I got mayor behind me reminding
- 58:16me this is the 30th anniversary of UVA beating Florida State.
- 58:22But I just think, Tyler, just do what Tyler said.
- 58:26Florida State's a well-rounded team.
- 58:28I think Virginia's probably going to score in the 20s, but I
- 58:33think Florida State's going to score in the high 30s, low 40s.
- 58:36I don't think Virginia's going to stop them straight up.
- 58:39So there it is. There it is.
- 58:43Oh man, tell I'm glad you got to come on for the last 35.
- 58:48Man, I have to pop on him, make sure Andrey acted right, you
- 58:51know what I'm saying? He was a little, he was a little
- 58:53agitated in the last couple of weeks.
- 58:55He's out. Control.
- 59:00He was fired. Up.
- 59:03He was fired up. One piece of news, if y'all
- 59:07didn't see this just hit about five hours ago, everybody saw
- 59:09Kevin Giltner took the Wofford job.
- 59:14But the there is a Boise State assistant coach.
- 59:17I had his. I had to tweet up and
- 59:19everything. Somebody put it in here.
- 59:23Yeah. I hate Twitter.
- 59:24Sometimes you find exactly what you need and then it just goes
- 59:29away. Trying to ask you guys.
- 59:33Oh, it refreshed on me because I'm like, oh, there's a tweet
- 59:36right there. Let me just hit it.
- 59:38Shout out David Cunningham for the repost.
- 59:40Former Boise State assistant coach David and Moats will be
- 59:45named assistant coach at Virginia Tech.
- 59:49Pretty big move for him. He he had been in Boise since
- 59:522017 in a variety of roles. Boise has made the tournament
- 59:57for definitely a few years, so that role is filled.
- 1:00:01Basketball season is starting soon, so you know, we'll see how
- 1:00:05that goes. Anything else boys, before we
- 1:00:09end the night? Anybody see?
- 1:00:13We got Brett Frye. I'm ready.
- 1:00:14To I'm ready to get AGM. Give me AGM.
- 1:00:17If anybody sees Brett Pryor at the bar, tell him to quit
- 1:00:20drinking beer. Don't quit drinking.
- 1:00:23Aw, man. Tally.
- 1:00:25And with that right there, we'll wrap up this episode of the
