- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to KFI AM 640, the Bill Handel Show
- 0:04Speaker 1: on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Good morning, everybody. Two weeks ago, I said I'll be back. Well,
- 0:15Speaker 2: here I am.
- 0:16Speaker 3: I'm back after a two-week absence, and I just threw
- 0:20Speaker 3: a story at Ann. And she said that we actually
- 0:23Speaker 3: did that story with Neil, and I got more than
- 0:26Speaker 3: a little upset as I told her, you leave the
- 0:28Speaker 3: good stories for me and you leave the crap stories
- 0:31Speaker 3: for Neil because that's the way this show works or
- 0:34Speaker 3: should roll.
- 0:34Speaker 2: So let me say hello to everybody because.
- 0:36Speaker 3: I'm back, and we're back to where we were almost,
- 0:40Speaker 3: almost with a little modification.
- 0:43Speaker 2: First of all, Neil, there you are. Good morning. Welcome home, buddy.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Thank you, sir.
- 0:47Speaker 4: Nice to see you.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Ann Ingold.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Hello. Hello.
- 0:52Speaker 5: My whole name.
- 0:53Speaker 6: Wow.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Yeah. Welcome back. We missed you. Yes, you did. There
- 0:58Speaker 2: is Amy King.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Hello, Amy.
- 1:01Speaker 5: Good morning, Bill. Welcome back.
- 1:03Speaker 2: And Will Kohlschreiber.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Interesting enough, you're wearing a UCLA t-shirt, and it's impossible
- 1:10Speaker 3: for you to ever have gotten into UCLA.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:13Speaker 2: So do you pretend you went to UCLA?
- 1:15Speaker 4: I took a UCLA extension course there.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Oh, I'm sorry. Yeah.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Anybody with an IQ of 12 can take an extension course.
- 1:23Speaker 3: All you do is sign up for them. Great to
- 1:25Speaker 3: have you back, Bill.
- 1:26Speaker 5: All right.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Thank you very much.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Now, as I told you, a modified show in the
- 1:31Speaker 3: sense that Kono is gone.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Matter of fact, he texted me last week and he said, Bill,
- 1:37Speaker 3: I just want to let you know how much I've
- 1:40Speaker 3: enjoyed the show. And it's been a real honor and
- 1:43Speaker 3: a pleasure working with you. And I texted back, goodbye.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Who is this?
- 1:51Speaker 3: So now I understand that Mario has become our new Kono.
- 1:56Speaker 2: However, Mario, his.
- 2:01Speaker 3: His involvement is– or his running the board is only–
- 2:05Speaker 3: is Tuesday through Friday because he's still running my Saturday show,
- 2:10Speaker 3: Handle on the Law. And they're trying to figure out
- 2:13Speaker 3: someone to replace Mario. And I assume there's some people
- 2:17Speaker 3: in training or they're looking for somebody or they're going
- 2:20Speaker 3: to whatever, some street corner on Skid Row saying, hey,
- 2:24Speaker 3: will you be willing to work for a little bit
- 2:25Speaker 3: of food?
- 2:27Speaker 2: And so Tony is filling in on Mondays. Tony Sorrento. Sorrentino.
- 2:33Speaker 4: Close enough. Sorrento.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Sargento. Tony makes cheese. And he does a very good job.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Anyway, so Tony is here on Mondays and will be here,
- 2:45Speaker 3: I guess, for the next immediate couple of weeks. Tony,
- 2:48Speaker 3: did they give you any timeline as to when you're
- 2:51Speaker 3: going to be off on Monday? You look like you're
- 2:53Speaker 3: falling asleep right there. Yeah, I mean, your eyes are— you
- 2:57Speaker 3: haven't even opened your eyes yet. It's like they're glued shut.
- 3:00Speaker 4: Like a baby puppy.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yeah, pretty much, pretty much.
- 3:03Speaker 3: So anyway— uh those are our changes the rest of
- 3:06Speaker 3: it hasn't changed it's uh nice uh to have gone
- 3:10Speaker 3: on vacation you ever notice you go on vacation you
- 3:12Speaker 3: can't wait you can't wait the anticipation is there you
- 3:14Speaker 3: go and then you come back and three minutes into
- 3:17Speaker 3: the show it's like it never happened like vacations never
- 3:20Speaker 3: happened so gone for two weeks uh was in africa
- 3:24Speaker 3: definitely a bucket list place i will tell you at
- 3:27Speaker 3: some point in your life it's like the hajj when
- 3:29Speaker 3: you go to mecca Uh, you should go once in
- 3:32Speaker 3: your life, except it's a lot more interesting going to Africa.
- 3:35Speaker 4: Wait, how many buckets do you have? Isn't this like
- 3:38Speaker 4: your second or third trip?
- 3:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it's my second trip out.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Uh, yeah, I wanted to take a lens to Africa
- 3:45Speaker 3: and basically did almost the same thing. And it was
- 3:48Speaker 3: a great time because Kenya is at 5,000 feet. It's
- 3:52Speaker 3: a way up there. So there's very few mosquitoes. You
- 3:55Speaker 3: go lower to the other countries, man, it's mosquito heaven.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I'm going to do a show. I'm going to do
- 3:59Speaker 2: a segment on that later on, on what time? Oh,
- 4:04Speaker 2: seven 50. How LA has.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Become a living hell with mosquitoes. And because we're pretty
- 4:10Speaker 3: low on the sea level, sea level, sea level of
- 4:15Speaker 3: the level.
- 4:16Speaker 4: We're on sea level.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah. We're basically there. That's true.
- 4:19Speaker 3: We're not Denver 6,500 feet or whatever.
- 4:23Speaker 2: In any case.
- 4:24Speaker 3: So I, some pictures are going to go up on
- 4:27Speaker 3: at bill handle show. some pretty fun, amazing stuff that
- 4:31Speaker 3: we did. And that's also a precursor to a podcast
- 4:34Speaker 3: that Lindsay and I started travel podcasts. I mean, I've
- 4:38Speaker 3: been talking about one for years and just to have
- 4:41Speaker 3: fun and we're doing that. And we're actually, it's, it's
- 4:44Speaker 3: going to be fun. It's called excessive baggage, which says
- 4:47Speaker 3: a lot about not only the podcast itself, but describes
- 4:50Speaker 3: our relationship.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Did she try and did Lindsay try and bring any
- 4:54Speaker 4: animals home? Smuggle any baby tigers back or anything?
- 4:57Speaker 2: No tigers in Africa, but that's besides the point.
- 4:59Speaker 4: Oh, lions.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Lions.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:02Speaker 2: No bears either.
- 5:03Speaker 4: I guess you'd have to go to Asia for the tigers.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Go to India. So any place where tigers, I think, exist.
- 5:09Speaker 2: That's Asia.
- 5:10Speaker 3: India.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Yeah, that is Asia. In any case.
- 5:13Speaker 3: So that's coming up. The podcast, Excessive Baggage. We're just
- 5:16Speaker 3: starting that. And the rest of it, there'll be some
- 5:18Speaker 3: great photos.
- 5:20Speaker 2: She took.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Over 4,000 photos and videos that she's going through.
- 5:25Speaker 2: I took a couple hundred.
- 5:26Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Well, you take a lot. I mean, you
- 5:30Speaker 3: take a lot of them. And you have to go
- 5:32Speaker 3: through them. There's one place, and you'll see the picture,
- 5:35Speaker 3: Giraffe Manor, where you hang out with giraffes.
- 5:37Speaker 5: Oh, you went to that place the first time, didn't you?
- 5:39Speaker 2: I did.
- 5:39Speaker 3: It's a magical place. It's a magical place. I mean,
- 5:42Speaker 3: you have breakfast with the giraffes. I mean, you're sitting
- 5:45Speaker 3: down to breakfast and the window is open and the
- 5:47Speaker 3: giraffe sticks its neck in and its head is right
- 5:51Speaker 3: next to yours while you're eating. And in the morning,
- 5:56Speaker 3: 5.30 a.m., you hear it, second floor now, you hear
- 6:00Speaker 3: it tap, tap, tap.
- 6:01Speaker 2: On the window.
- 6:02Speaker 3: You open the window and there is a giraffe staring
- 6:05Speaker 3: right at you wanting a snack.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Are they wild?
- 6:09Speaker 3: No, they're wild giraffes. They're in a conservancy. So I
- 6:12Speaker 3: guess to some extent they're trained, I guess. But they
- 6:15Speaker 3: don't do tricks. You can't say heel. You can't have
- 6:18Speaker 3: them roll over. They tend not to do that. Very
- 6:21Speaker 3: difficult for a giraffe to do that. So it's a
- 6:26Speaker 3: conservancy in that it's sort of a– how do I
- 6:30Speaker 3: put it? What it does is it births giraffes. sends
- 6:36Speaker 3: them out into the wild to repopulate, and there are
- 6:39Speaker 3: a few giraffes that are there that, in fact, are
- 6:42Speaker 3: involved in the procreation. There's Eddie, who is the only
- 6:45Speaker 3: male there, and he stups all the females.
- 6:48Speaker 2: He walks around, smiling. Oh, yeah, Eddie.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Has a good time. And the prodigy of Eddie and
- 6:58Speaker 3: the various other, like 12 or 14 of the other giraffes,
- 7:02Speaker 3: is that they're released out in the wild and some
- 7:05Speaker 3: are endangered.
- 7:06Speaker 2: So they do a nice job.
- 7:07Speaker 3: And they're supported by donations and the hotel itself. They
- 7:15Speaker 3: take a good chunk of the exorbitant money that they
- 7:18Speaker 3: charge and use that to establish and maintain the conservancy program.
- 7:22Speaker 3: So we'll be talking a lot more about that. Also,
- 7:25Speaker 3: the other thing I want to point out, a lot
- 7:27Speaker 3: of politics. I know that I've always done Trump to death.
- 7:30Speaker 3: We're probably going to do more Trump to death. But
- 7:33Speaker 3: it was, I can tell you, having talked to people,
- 7:39Speaker 3: Americans are not liked very much. And this administration is
- 7:44Speaker 3: hated throughout Africa and throughout the world.
- 7:50Speaker 2: We were in Dubai. Oh, that's a fun one, too.
- 7:53Speaker 2: I've always wanted to fly Emirates.
- 7:55Speaker 3: So if you would like a 17-hour flight, flight when
- 7:59Speaker 3: you're in the air for 17 hours. Try Dubai, Los Angeles,
- 8:03Speaker 3: Dubai on Emirates.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Okay. That's it. Can't think of anything else. Any questions?
- 8:10Speaker 2: Nothing going on? All right.
- 8:12Speaker 3: I'm done. Neil coming up after the break and he'll
- 8:16Speaker 3: be taking over the show because he's done such a,
- 8:18Speaker 3: just a stellar job.
- 8:20Speaker 2: I understand.
- 8:21Speaker 4: I will tell you, I will tell you something in
- 8:24Speaker 4: all seriousness. I like busting your chops. It is not
- 8:27Speaker 4: the same when you're gone and there will never, ever,
- 8:32Speaker 4: ever be another bill handle.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Aw, shucks.
- 8:35Speaker 4: No, I'm serious.
- 8:36Speaker 2: I bust your balls all the time. My index finger
- 8:38Speaker 2: is now jammed into my cheek. It's twirling. That is
- 8:41Speaker 2: the reality, sir. Well, thank you for that.
- 8:43Speaker 4: That is the reality.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Okay, guys, let's do it.
- 8:45Speaker 3: And we've got news aplenty on this Monday morning, October 12th,
- 8:49Speaker 3: two weeks to go or three weeks to go, uh,
- 8:51Speaker 3: before the election. And, uh, The Republicans are scrambling, to
- 8:56Speaker 3: say the least. We'll see what happens over, what, November 2nd?
- 9:01Speaker 3: Is that when the election is? I do believe it
- 9:03Speaker 3: is Tuesday, November 2nd.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Let's do it, guys.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Time for Handel on the News with Amy, Neil, and me.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Lead story. The president has declared an energy ceasefire between
- 9:14Speaker 3: Russia and Ukraine. Zelensky said, fine with me. Russia has
- 9:20Speaker 3: said nothing so far. What's interesting about this is that
- 9:24Speaker 3: coupled with this, the president has lifted the sanctions against
- 9:29Speaker 3: Russia in selling its diesel fuel, not only to the
- 9:33Speaker 3: United States, but just global markets. Now, keep in mind
- 9:36Speaker 3: that Russia was not allowed to sell the diesel fuel
- 9:40Speaker 3: because it was under sanctions. And the sanctions were so
- 9:44Speaker 3: strict that the president said any country or business that
- 9:48Speaker 3: does business with Russia and its fuel, diesel fuel, is
- 9:53Speaker 3: going to be sanctioned. And then he turned right around
- 9:56Speaker 3: and said, never mind, I've changed my mind. And you
- 9:59Speaker 3: see these other countries. scrambling, saying, wait a second, we're
- 10:02Speaker 3: not doing, because you forced us not to, and now
- 10:04Speaker 3: you're opening it up. So, and the other thing that's
- 10:07Speaker 3: kind of fun that I'm enjoying is the president is
- 10:12Speaker 3: not responsible for the increase in the cost of diesel fuel.
- 10:17Speaker 3: It is, and you'll hear this again and again, starting today,
- 10:21Speaker 3: actually starting a few days ago. It is Zelensky who
- 10:24Speaker 3: is responsible for the high cost of diesel. It is
- 10:27Speaker 3: Vladimir Zelensky, that Vladimir Zelensky that is causing this high
- 10:32Speaker 3: price of diesel in the United States.
- 10:33Speaker 4: Wasn't there any, I mean, any, any other option? Then
- 10:40Speaker 4: to put money in the hands of Putin and his regime.
- 10:44Speaker 3: No, because they're the ones that sell what their major
- 10:47Speaker 3: source of fuel sales are is diesel fuel. That's where
- 10:52Speaker 3: they shined in terms of revenue coming in for its
- 10:55Speaker 3: oil products. And now the president has said wide open,
- 10:59Speaker 3: you go ahead and sell. We're releasing sanctions and hoping
- 11:03Speaker 3: that that will curtail the cost of diesel fuel, which
- 11:06Speaker 3: it will for a very limited amount of time and
- 11:10Speaker 3: for not very much money. OK, so anyway, the energy ceasefire.
- 11:15Speaker 3: I don't know what's going to happen with that. It
- 11:17Speaker 3: could be just another. Another declaration, five thousand dollars for
- 11:22Speaker 3: every American that votes for Republican free pizzas for everybody. OK,
- 11:27Speaker 3: we're going to come back and engage in yet more
- 11:30Speaker 3: Handel on the news.
- 11:33Speaker 6: You're listening to Bill Handel on demand from KFI AM 640.
- 11:37Speaker 2: I stand corrected. The election is Tuesday, November 3rd.
- 11:41Speaker 4: Hey, hey, genius.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Welcome back.
- 11:44Speaker 4: Mute your mic.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Oh, already. You know, there it is.
- 11:49Speaker 5: And so it begins.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I know. Well, Tony, you have to tell me
- 11:52Speaker 2: to mute my mic because it shows.
- 11:54Speaker 3: I know.
- 11:55Speaker 2: He's just sort of– he's waking up.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Huh? Huh?
- 11:58Speaker 2: What did you just say?
- 11:58Speaker 3: It's a little early for someone who doesn't do this
- 12:01Speaker 3: on a regular basis. As I said, Tony is here
- 12:04Speaker 3: on Mondays and will be for a little while. Our Mario,
- 12:07Speaker 3: our new guy, will be here Tuesdays through Friday. And
- 12:11Speaker 3: Mario is– actually superb at what he does legitimately. Okay,
- 12:15Speaker 3: back we go.
- 12:16Speaker 2: More handle on the news on this Monday morning. Amy, Neil,
- 12:19Speaker 2: and me.
- 12:20Speaker 5: Both sides are calling for the president to call off
- 12:23Speaker 5: the deal. Six senators called for President Trump's administration to
- 12:28Speaker 5: immediately reverse course on that plan to purchase the deal,
- 12:32Speaker 5: the Russian diesel that Bill was just telling you about.
- 12:36Speaker 5: It's four Republicans and two Democrats signing a statement Protesting,
- 12:41Speaker 5: saying the administration failed to consult with Congress or submit
- 12:45Speaker 5: any explanation to justify its decision, which is required by statute.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Yeah. Now, I'm surprised. How many Republicans are there? I
- 12:52Speaker 3: think three who have made that call. Four. Four Republicans
- 12:57Speaker 3: out of 53.
- 12:59Speaker 2: But there was only two Democrats.
- 13:01Speaker 5: It was just it was a statement.
- 13:04Speaker 2: I mean, that's fair. That's fair to say.
- 13:06Speaker 3: But my question is, how many Republicans would not join
- 13:11Speaker 3: that if there was a vote being taken right now
- 13:14Speaker 3: as to force the president, which can't do what they
- 13:16Speaker 3: can't do in terms of the Russian diesel plan? So
- 13:21Speaker 3: we'll see how that pans out, because that's up in
- 13:23Speaker 3: the air today, too. All right, back to Saudi Arabia.
- 13:29Speaker 2: We go.
- 13:29Speaker 4: Saudi Arabia has just said yesterday that they would respond decisively.
- 13:34Speaker 4: Respond to what? Well, the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen,
- 13:40Speaker 4: day after a strike on Riyadh's international airport there. And
- 13:46Speaker 4: this brought that big expanding Middle East conflict home to
- 13:51Speaker 4: the Saudi capital. So they claimed, the Houthis later claimed
- 13:54Speaker 4: responsibility And saying that, you know, warned airlines against flying
- 14:00Speaker 4: to Saudi airports, calling them potential targets.
- 14:03Speaker 2: And they're going to do it. And this one is
- 14:05Speaker 2: scary for Saudi Arabia.
- 14:07Speaker 4: Why?
- 14:08Speaker 3: Because there really is no defense here. They've already, 10
- 14:11Speaker 3: years ago, they went after the Houthis and were successful.
- 14:15Speaker 3: But the Houthis have come back with asymmetric fighting. drones, etc.,
- 14:20Speaker 3: that have just upended war in general. And now you
- 14:23Speaker 3: have Saudi Arabia with its major airports at risk, and
- 14:27Speaker 3: that changes everything. And now the president, our president, has
- 14:32Speaker 3: to decide, does it join the fight against the Houthis? Boy,
- 14:35Speaker 3: is he caught between a rock and a hard place
- 14:36Speaker 3: on this. Because once the attack on Iran happened, with
- 14:40Speaker 3: Israel and the United States attacking Iran, then the Houthis
- 14:44Speaker 3: got involved, and they have actually grown in power substantially.
- 14:49Speaker 3: So this one is, uh, also really troubling. It's, it's
- 14:52Speaker 3: a mess going on right now.
- 14:54Speaker 2: It is a mess.
- 14:57Speaker 5: As Barry Manilow would say, we made it through the rain.
- 15:01Speaker 5: The worst of the surge, uh, from the storm has
- 15:04Speaker 5: now passed from, uh, what was hurricane Rachel and then
- 15:09Speaker 5: tropical storm and then post subtropical storm Rachel. Uh, but
- 15:14Speaker 5: it did do damage, uh, Laguna beach, uh, Long Beach, Malibu,
- 15:20Speaker 5: lot of, uh, lot of damage. And, uh, in fact,
- 15:23Speaker 5: our Jason Nathanson is going to be out there a
- 15:27Speaker 5: little bit later, giving us a report in the latest
- 15:29Speaker 5: update of the homes that were red tagged and the
- 15:33Speaker 5: beach erosion. And, uh, it's kind of a mess.
- 15:36Speaker 3: Last night, uh, I was watching Lindsay looking on social
- 15:40Speaker 3: media as to what happened.
- 15:41Speaker 2: To these beaches. She grew up along these beaches.
- 15:44Speaker 3: These are beaches that she went to as, uh, a kid,
- 15:48Speaker 3: a teenager, and just hung out. And she's seeing these
- 15:50Speaker 3: places that are no longer what she saw. And for those,
- 15:54Speaker 3: did you see that boardwalk along Long Beach? Those homes
- 15:58Speaker 3: were multi-million dollar homes and have just been wiped out.
- 16:04Speaker 3: Good time to buy oceanfront property, isn't it, in Southern California?
- 16:11Speaker 4: Very rough. Federal judge ordered the Trump administration yesterday to
- 16:16Speaker 4: stop airing ads funded by the U.S. government. These are
- 16:20Speaker 4: those ads we've been talking about for a couple of
- 16:22Speaker 4: weeks that portray President Donald Trump in favorable light. And
- 16:27Speaker 4: he said they were PSAs. The court disagrees. The lawsuit
- 16:32Speaker 4: was brought by a watchdog group called Common Cause.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:38Speaker 3: Now, this is the president running these ads, pro-America ads,
- 16:42Speaker 3: which are generally allowed. However, he's the one that is
- 16:46Speaker 3: at the forefront of these ads. And look at what
- 16:49Speaker 3: the implication here is. If you are pro-American, you are pro-Trump.
- 16:55Speaker 3: I am America. And it is– I was just watching
- 16:59Speaker 3: this morning. One of the Republican senators said this is
- 17:02Speaker 3: absolutely appropriate for him to do that. to uh promote
- 17:06Speaker 3: effectively promote his presidency effectively promote himself and the court
- 17:11Speaker 3: said no of course it's immediately appealed 100 it'll be who.
- 17:14Speaker 4: Does that speak to like that's just the maga base
- 17:18Speaker 4: that's not no one's gonna go oh that's great with
- 17:22Speaker 4: this undecided wow i you know i never knew that
- 17:25Speaker 4: is correct but the only shot that the Republicans have
- 17:29Speaker 4: from a wipeout coming up in three weeks is to
- 17:34Speaker 4: engage the MAGA base.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Get out in force. Get out there in huge numbers,
- 17:40Speaker 3: because if you don't, we're going to be wiped out.
- 17:41Speaker 3: That's the argument. And that's why the president is going
- 17:44Speaker 3: to these ruby red states. uh that basically are ruby
- 17:50Speaker 3: red and he is saying you got to go out
- 17:52Speaker 3: and vote pretend that i'm on the ballot although i
- 17:55Speaker 3: haven't heard that lately uh and they they have to
- 17:58Speaker 3: without the maga base going out in force uh there
- 18:02Speaker 3: is truly going to be a wipeout i mean a
- 18:04Speaker 3: complete wipeout all right uh done with that one so
- 18:08Speaker 3: uh let's take a break we'll come back and uh
- 18:10Speaker 3: yet more handle on the.
- 18:11Speaker 6: News You're listening to Bill Handel on demand from KFI
- 18:16Speaker 6: AM 640.
- 18:18Speaker 3: Now, I think it's only the drizzle after a weekend
- 18:21Speaker 3: of relentless rain. Southern California being decimated. Hurricane Rachel did
- 18:27Speaker 3: not do well for us.
- 18:29Speaker 2: But it's returned. More Handel on the news. Amy, Neil
- 18:32Speaker 2: and me.
- 18:33Speaker 5: The floods could cause your car to catch fire.
- 18:36Speaker 4: What?
- 18:37Speaker 5: Fire officials warning residents about a potentially dangerous consequence of
- 18:41Speaker 5: saltwater exposure. especially involving electric vehicles. Laguna Beach Fire says
- 18:47Speaker 5: saltwater can damage those lithium-ion batteries that are in EVs, hybrids,
- 18:52Speaker 5: electric bicycles, and scooters, and could trigger fires days or
- 18:57Speaker 5: even weeks after initial exposure to water.
- 19:01Speaker 3: In general, though, these batteries spontaneously catch fire. What was
- 19:05Speaker 3: that yesterday on the news on that airplane when a
- 19:10Speaker 3: battery exploded in the overhead compartment?
- 19:13Speaker 5: Well, you're not supposed to have them in the overhead
- 19:14Speaker 5: compartments anymore.
- 19:15Speaker 2: That's true.
- 19:16Speaker 3: You just don't have it at all. So, you know,
- 19:19Speaker 3: be real careful. Don't bring that Tesla through the airport.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Don't use it as your carry-on. Well, first of all,
- 19:25Speaker 3: it won't fit through the x-ray machine. But, yeah, it's
- 19:28Speaker 3: a world of hurt. Now, we have e-bikes. You unplug them.
- 19:33Speaker 3: You do not keep them plugged in. Charge, goodbye, turn
- 19:38Speaker 3: them off.
- 19:39Speaker 4: You know, I use a lot of rechargeable batteries and
- 19:41Speaker 4: stuff in my shop and I have special containers for them.
- 19:46Speaker 4: uh so if they explode uh because they're so dangerous
- 19:50Speaker 4: these days all right uh back to it you've got
- 19:54Speaker 4: president donald trump and secretary of uh state little marco
- 19:58Speaker 4: isn't that what he used to call him marco rubio
- 20:01Speaker 4: before they were friends before they were buddies uh they're
- 20:03Speaker 4: considering firing the u.s ambassador to greece kimberly guilfoyle So
- 20:08Speaker 4: a lot of reports coming out alleging she has engaged
- 20:11Speaker 4: in at the very least improper and at the very
- 20:14Speaker 4: most possibly illegal conduct before and during her tenure in Athens.
- 20:20Speaker 4: So apparently Trump and Rubio are, as it's, this is quote,
- 20:26Speaker 4: extremely pissed off by Gilfoyle's report.
- 20:30Speaker 2: She'll be fired. She'll be fired. I would think so.
- 20:32Speaker 3: And the allegation is she sent an email to a
- 20:36Speaker 3: former donor and, says, honey, would you please pay off
- 20:42Speaker 3: my $ 100, 000 American Express bill? And inferred, and you'll be
- 20:47Speaker 3: close to the president. And I'll make sure of that.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Something along those lines. And the texts are there. I
- 20:53Speaker 3: think it was a text that she sent.
- 20:54Speaker 4: But you have to be careful as a brunette in
- 20:56Speaker 4: his administration.
- 20:58Speaker 3: You're damn right. For example, his new press secretary. How
- 21:01Speaker 3: about that? Another blonde. A very tentative, you know, line
- 21:06Speaker 3: to safety when you're a brunette. Yeah, when you wait,
- 21:09Speaker 3: Marco Rubio is going to come into a press conference
- 21:12Speaker 3: one day with long blonde locks.
- 21:15Speaker 4: Could you imagine?
- 21:17Speaker 5: That'd be funny. Here's a win for the animals. So
- 21:23Speaker 5: there's a guy who got mauled to death in a
- 21:25Speaker 5: zoo in Britain. It happened at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
- 21:31Speaker 5: The tiger is named Altai. And the man entered the
- 21:38Speaker 5: big cat's enclosure and the, Tiger did what tigers do
- 21:42Speaker 5: and mauled him to death.
- 21:43Speaker 3: Yeah, first he was playing with him. Did you see
- 21:45Speaker 3: a video of the tiger sort of swiping at him?
- 21:49Speaker 3: And here's a guy on the ground facing the tiger
- 21:51Speaker 3: and wagging his finger.
- 21:52Speaker 2: At the tiger.
- 21:53Speaker 4: I saw that.
- 21:54Speaker 6: I know.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Don't you do that. Like he's in the WNBA. Bad boy.
- 21:59Speaker 2: And then the tiger eats him.
- 22:00Speaker 5: Well, the zoo has decided they are not going to
- 22:03Speaker 5: euthanize the cat.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Why would they euthanize?
- 22:05Speaker 5: Well, because remember that whole thing with that beautiful gorilla?
- 22:09Speaker 5: The gorilla.
- 22:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:11Speaker 5: And the little boy got into the enclosure and they
- 22:13Speaker 5: killed the gorilla.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:15Speaker 5: It wasn't his fault.
- 22:16Speaker 3: But I think they killed the gorilla while he was
- 22:18Speaker 3: holding on to the kid or while the kid was
- 22:20Speaker 3: in the enclosure. I don't think they killed him later.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Let's look that one up. If memory serves, you may
- 22:25Speaker 3: be right. I voted for the gorilla. By the way,
- 22:29Speaker 3: that was a– Signed up, well, what do they do,
- 22:33Speaker 3: a fill-in vote for the gorilla?
- 22:35Speaker 4: Oh, your write-in vote?
- 22:36Speaker 2: Yeah, my write-in vote, yeah. What was his name? I
- 22:39Speaker 2: wrote in the gorilla. I forgot the gorilla's name.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Arumbe or something?
- 22:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, or Carumbe or something, yeah.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Carumbe? Because I wouldn't vote for Trump and I wouldn't
- 22:47Speaker 3: vote for Kamala Harris, so I ended up voting for
- 22:51Speaker 3: the gorilla, who's dead. I don't even know if a
- 22:54Speaker 3: dead gorilla can be the president.
- 22:55Speaker 4: Can we euthanize the guy's parents who got into the enclosure?
- 22:58Speaker 2: I don't know. So, anyway.
- 23:01Speaker 5: Did the boy die?
- 23:03Speaker 3: No. No.
- 23:04Speaker 2: They rescued the kid.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Harambe did not harm that kid at all.
- 23:09Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 23:09Speaker 5: The zoo officials used a rifle to shoot and kill
- 23:11Speaker 5: Harambe rather than tranquilizing him because of the life-threatening danger
- 23:16Speaker 5: to the child.
- 23:17Speaker 3: But he never hurt the kid. I mean, he dragged
- 23:19Speaker 3: him along but never attacked the child. Just, yeah, dead gorilla.
- 23:26Speaker 1: All right.
- 23:26Speaker 4: So you don't want your army– caught off guard and
- 23:30Speaker 4: you don't want your army caught off guard by the
- 23:33Speaker 4: leader of the army uh secretary of defense pete hegseth's
- 23:38Speaker 4: announcement that the execution probably to handle's excitement uh of
- 23:42Speaker 4: the convicted fort hood mass shooter would be shown in
- 23:46Speaker 4: public well the people at the pentagon and the army
- 23:48Speaker 4: uh they got caught off guard by that three sources
- 23:52Speaker 4: have said Yeah, I mean, this came up.
- 23:55Speaker 3: We saw that interview that was on the USS Lincoln
- 23:58Speaker 3: that Hex was doing with that podcaster.
- 24:00Speaker 2: And it seemed to me he just came out of
- 24:02Speaker 2: the blue and said, yeah.
- 24:04Speaker 3: We're going to go ahead and we're going to stream
- 24:07Speaker 3: this live, the execution. So everybody knows how serious this
- 24:10Speaker 3: killing of all these soldiers are.
- 24:13Speaker 2: This guy is nuts.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Psychiatrist, Army psychiatrist who became radicalized and ended up shooting
- 24:20Speaker 3: that room in Fort Hood. In any case, so it's
- 24:25Speaker 3: not going to happen. There's just too much backlash on this.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Ain't going to happen.
- 24:30Speaker 3: It's impossible. Even though the president said, yes, I okayed it. Yes,
- 24:32Speaker 3: it's being done with my permission. Believe me, that's going
- 24:35Speaker 3: to change.
- 24:36Speaker 5: And then did you see J.D. Vance when they asked
- 24:38Speaker 5: him about it? He goes, I'm not going to be watching.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Right.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Now, I would watch it. Now, I would watch it
- 24:44Speaker 2: only because I would watch it.
- 24:46Speaker 4: Put them in the enclosure with the tiger.
- 24:50Speaker 2: There you go. Throw them in there. Yeah.
- 24:52Speaker 5: Okay.
- 24:52Speaker 2: We'll be back. and finish up Handel on the News
- 24:56Speaker 2: on this Monday morning.
- 24:57Speaker 6: You're listening to Bill Handel On Demand from KFI AM 640.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Three weeks away from the election, November 3rd, Tuesday, and
- 25:07Speaker 2: nice to be back. Okay, let's do it. Let's finish
- 25:09Speaker 2: up Handel on the News with Amy, Neal, and me.
- 25:14Speaker 5: A postal worker who pummeled a peacock in Pasadena is
- 25:17Speaker 5: going to face punishment.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Ooh, how is that for alliteration? Well done.
- 25:22Speaker 5: So this guy is caught on video beating up a peacock.
- 25:26Speaker 5: It's a white peacock that's been roaming the neighborhood for years.
- 25:30Speaker 4: Stunning creature, by the way.
- 25:32Speaker 5: Charged with animal cruelty. The peacock, by the way, has
- 25:38Speaker 5: recovered from its injuries and has been relocated to a
- 25:40Speaker 5: private ranch in Northern California.
- 25:42Speaker 3: And peacocks are known to be exceptionally vicious, except for
- 25:47Speaker 3: this one.
- 25:48Speaker 5: Well, except it was a little aggressive toward men.
- 25:51Speaker 3: Oh.
- 25:52Speaker 4: Well, just like Amy.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Yeah, just like, yeah, exactly. LA DWP.
- 26:00Speaker 4: So sorry. I'm sorry. Nearly two years after the Palisades
- 26:04Speaker 4: fire destroyed thousands of structures, lest we forget, uh, some
- 26:10Speaker 4: Pacific Palisades residents rebuilding their homes say there's massive delays
- 26:14Speaker 4: by the Los Angeles department of water and power and
- 26:17Speaker 4: slowed their return. And now, the LADWP has apologized from
- 26:24Speaker 4: the interim general manager there.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Yeah, but does that mean the permitting process is going
- 26:28Speaker 3: to go any faster?
- 26:30Speaker 2: Probably not.
- 26:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I'd rather have that.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Yeah, so would we.
- 26:36Speaker 5: Some Trump-friendly counties may not be so friendly this time around.
- 26:41Speaker 5: After the first days of early voting in Ohio, Democrats
- 26:45Speaker 5: are making up larger shares of pre-election voters than they
- 26:48Speaker 5: did two years ago. They follow these numbers. And at
- 26:52Speaker 5: this point in 2024, Republicans held a 30 percentage point
- 26:55Speaker 5: lead over Democrats in counties that voted for Trump by
- 26:58Speaker 5: 20 points or more. That's according to data from the
- 27:01Speaker 5: Ohio secretary of state this year that has shrunk to
- 27:04Speaker 5: just five points.
- 27:06Speaker 3: This is an interesting cycle because at this point, the
- 27:09Speaker 3: Republicans are trying to minimize their losses. What they're trying
- 27:14Speaker 3: to do instead of making it a Democratic sweep, is
- 27:18Speaker 3: make it a Democratic trickle. I mean everybody accepts the
- 27:21Speaker 3: fact that Republicans are going to lose seats and probably
- 27:23Speaker 3: lose the House, maybe the Senate, although maybe not. Certainly
- 27:28Speaker 3: the House and it is– we're going to see what
- 27:32Speaker 3: kind of a wipeout this is going to be. I
- 27:34Speaker 3: think it is going to be substantial because people are
- 27:36Speaker 3: just tired of it. They are just tired of the
- 27:40Speaker 3: promises that are being made. And you're going to hear
- 27:42Speaker 3: promises being made from now through Election Day that are
- 27:46Speaker 3: going to boggle the mind. One of them being, have they,
- 27:50Speaker 3: as the president talked ever again about the $ 5, 000 per
- 27:53Speaker 3: person check that every American receives if Republicans stay in
- 27:57Speaker 3: power in the House and the Senate? I think I
- 28:00Speaker 3: haven't heard much about that lately.
- 28:02Speaker 5: We have to wait till after the election.
- 28:04Speaker 3: That's right. And the war is going to be over,
- 28:07Speaker 3: but only after the election. So here's what you do.
- 28:11Speaker 3: Vote Republican, keep the Republicans in power, and I will
- 28:15Speaker 3: end the war right after that.
- 28:19Speaker 4: I could use that money for the holidays.
- 28:20Speaker 5: I know.
- 28:21Speaker 2: I think it'd be great.
- 28:24Speaker 4: All right. She's not dead. She's not even mostly dead.
- 28:30Speaker 4: Krista Pike, whose head should be on one, survived the
- 28:34Speaker 4: Tennessee's attempt to execute by way of lethal injection. So
- 28:40Speaker 4: they've moved her back to prison. She's 50 years old now,
- 28:45Speaker 4: discharged from the hospital and back.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Where she was housed for 30 years. And this puts
- 28:53Speaker 3: in doubt the entire death penalty. All the governors, the
- 28:56Speaker 3: states are looking at it, go, whoops, this is the
- 28:58Speaker 3: first time that any inmate who has been executed as
- 29:04Speaker 3: a result of the pentobarbital, part of the cocktail, has survived. Now,
- 29:10Speaker 3: there have been others that have had a tough time dying,
- 29:13Speaker 3: and there have been lawsuits after lawsuits, but she seems
- 29:15Speaker 3: to be the only one that has survived.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Does that mean it's over? No, not at all.
- 29:18Speaker 3: You know, there's that myth that if you survived a hanging–
- 29:23Speaker 3: For example, in the Old West, you were being hanged,
- 29:26Speaker 3: even modernly.
- 29:28Speaker 2: If you survived it, the rope broke or whatever, that's it.
- 29:30Speaker 2: It's over. You're not going to get the death penalty.
- 29:33Speaker 2: In reality, they just put up another rope. And so—
- 29:37Speaker 2: an unusual punishment. Well, that's the whole point. That's what
- 29:40Speaker 2: all of this is about.
- 29:41Speaker 4: I guarantee the Fort Hood shooter will not have this issue.
- 29:46Speaker 4: They will know.
- 29:47Speaker 2: And that's that's it.
- 29:48Speaker 3: And that is the other argument, because, you know, it's barbaric.
- 29:52Speaker 3: And I put that in quotes as an execution is
- 29:54Speaker 3: by firing squad. You die pretty quickly. I'll tell you,
- 29:59Speaker 3: the other thing you die of very quickly and fairly
- 30:01Speaker 3: painlessly is guillotine.
- 30:05Speaker 4: But they say that you can still see your body
- 30:07Speaker 4: after your head rolls off.
- 30:10Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 30:12Speaker 5: I don't think so. Would it be like a chicken
- 30:14Speaker 5: when you cut its head off? Have you seen that?
- 30:16Speaker 5: They run around the yard.
- 30:17Speaker 4: For a while.
- 30:17Speaker 3: They do, but that's because of the central nervous system
- 30:20Speaker 3: on the chicken. They really don't use their brains very much.
- 30:23Speaker 3: So your body would run around. That's very well said.
- 30:27Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Okay, we're done, guys. That's it.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Coming up, matter of fact, we're going to talk about
- 30:32Speaker 3: the last public execution, a little bit of handle history here,
- 30:36Speaker 3: and Pete Hegseth wants the execution of the Fort Hood shooter.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Live streamed so we can all watch it. I knew
- 30:45Speaker 2: you'd be excited about that. I have mixed feelings about that, truly,
- 30:48Speaker 2: and yes.
- 30:50Speaker 3: Yes. I had witnessed an execution myself, as I've told
- 30:54Speaker 3: all of you, and it's much like a entertainer who says,
- 30:59Speaker 3: I wish I could take all of you home with me.
- 31:02Speaker 3: I wish you could all have been there when I
- 31:05Speaker 3: witnessed the execution.
- 31:07Speaker 4: What if they did it at the Coliseum or something?
- 31:10Speaker 4: Instead of broadcasting live.
- 31:14Speaker 3: They would make money. They would make money. All right,
- 31:17Speaker 3: let's go ahead and take a break. We'll be dealing
- 31:19Speaker 3: with that when we come back. This is KFI AM 640.
- 31:24Speaker 1: You've been listening to The Bill Handel Show. Catch my
- 31:27Speaker 1: show Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
- 31:30Speaker 2: And anytime on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
