- 0:00Speaker 1: He was at right guard to begin his Seahawks career
- 0:02Speaker 1: at Ricky Manning camp this week. This is what bo
- 0:05Speaker 1: Stevens had to say about his first days of the
- 0:07Speaker 1: Seahawks walking out through today and what it's like pretty surreal.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Before practice, I'm just literally walking around in circles because
- 0:16Speaker 2: i was like the first one out there and I'm
- 0:18Speaker 2: just looking around. I'm like, wow, this is going to
- 0:20Speaker 2: be where I'm at for a couple of years, hopefully
- 0:21Speaker 2: for a very long time. But I was really eye
- 0:23Speaker 2: opening to see your number, to see a jersey with
- 0:26Speaker 2: your number on it, with your name on the back.
- 0:28Speaker 2: There's no really a better feeling than that than winning games,
- 0:31Speaker 2: you know. So yeah, I'm just really happy the apt.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Er.
- 0:38Speaker 2: It's just a show where you're at and as a
- 0:40Speaker 2: starting point, because there's a lot of time before the
- 0:41Speaker 2: season starts, just to show how good in shape you are,
- 0:44Speaker 2: show what kind of fundamentals that I've been taught over
- 0:46Speaker 2: the last couple of years and see how well that's
- 0:48Speaker 2: going to translate, and then just taking whatever Coach Britton
- 0:50Speaker 2: has for me and just trying to tweak my play
- 0:53Speaker 2: style and it's an opportunity to just get it better
- 0:55Speaker 2: as a as a player and in person.
- 0:57Speaker 4: How important is the communication aspect right now?
- 1:00Speaker 1: Time of your special what you guys don't have pads on,
- 1:01Speaker 1: and just being able to get used to your coaches
- 1:03Speaker 1: and what.
- 1:04Speaker 5: They're asking you.
- 1:05Speaker 1: What's the word paramount?
- 1:06Speaker 2: Just having guys next to you, having a center makers call,
- 1:09Speaker 2: listen to it, put in two and two from the
- 1:11Speaker 2: meeting to the practice field. That's all you can really
- 1:13Speaker 2: ask for. That's what you what the whole goal is
- 1:15Speaker 2: when you go out there and practice to get better
- 1:17Speaker 2: at that, and then your fundamentals and so it's just
- 1:20Speaker 2: putting those together right now. They're obviously throwing a lot
- 1:22Speaker 2: at you here early, but the first impression of the play,
- 1:25Speaker 2: what the offense and how that kind of fits with
- 1:27Speaker 2: the stuff you were running before, has what you're kind
- 1:29Speaker 2: of bah, I'm really thankful for coach Lester at Iowa.
- 1:32Speaker 2: A lot of it's the same, a lot of it's
- 1:33Speaker 2: similar to a lot of the same words. There's definitely
- 1:35Speaker 2: some differences. There's definitely more like complexity, but I feel
- 1:38Speaker 2: like I've gotten a great starting point and it's very helpful.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I'm sure some of these guys that have never heard
- 1:43Speaker 2: anything like how we did it at Iowa or here.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Coming in for that first meeting, you hear in it,
- 1:47Speaker 2: they're kind of like mind blown, like how different it is,
- 1:51Speaker 2: and I feel like I have I'm gonna have a
- 1:53Speaker 2: handle on it in the meantimes.
- 1:55Speaker 1: How much and how much to kind of have you
- 1:57Speaker 1: talked to me so over the last week.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Kind of prep you for coming in, what to expect them.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I texted him right before I came down. Obviously you
- 2:03Speaker 2: can't be around during Ricky why camp, but he just
- 2:05Speaker 2: wished me the best and he said if you need anything,
- 2:08Speaker 2: just text me. He's like, it's pretty much the same playbook.
- 2:10Speaker 2: So I was like, nice, it's pretty cool.
- 2:14Speaker 5: They had you on the right side today.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Yeah, you're going to be It's too early to tell.
- 2:19Speaker 2: They obviously have a really good left guard, so I'm assuming.
- 2:23Speaker 2: But depth charts never mean anything at this time of year,
- 2:25Speaker 2: so it's something you just got to keep working formations.
- 2:29Speaker 6: You have communications up to this point with some of
- 2:31Speaker 6: the other linemen from the team here, like great.
- 2:35Speaker 2: I saw him what I walked inside for the first
- 2:37Speaker 2: time after getting flying throwing down, but we just said
- 2:42Speaker 2: what's up, and it's like good luck, have a good time.
- 2:44Speaker 4: You're gonna love it.
- 2:45Speaker 2: And that's about all the communication I've had so far.
- 2:51Speaker 2: He seems very similar to my office line coach at Iowa,
- 2:54Speaker 2: and I can appreciate that. He's something that I can
- 2:56Speaker 2: definitely relate with the way he teaches. Obviously, it's been
- 3:00Speaker 2: what twenty four hours that I've been with him, so
- 3:03Speaker 2: I don't know everything, but for right now, what I've
- 3:05Speaker 2: said is I'm very appreciative of how he's gone about it,
- 3:07Speaker 2: and it seems like he's got a plan for me.
- 3:09Speaker 2: He hasn't told me it yet, but I have a
- 3:12Speaker 2: feeling I can trust him.
- 3:15Speaker 1: That's both Stevens rookie fifth round pig all Mare and
- 3:17Speaker 1: guard from Iowa talking about being on the right side.
- 3:20Speaker 1: They have a really good left guard, so I'm assuming
- 3:24Speaker 1: is what he said, meaning Grey's Abel of course, And
- 3:26Speaker 1: it was interesting to hear him talk about John Benton
- 3:29Speaker 1: and we helped to get the offensive line coach for
- 3:31Speaker 1: both Stevens on the show maybe tomorrow from Iowa City
- 3:35Speaker 1: in the University of Iowa, and how the similarity and
- 3:38Speaker 1: he Stevens believes he's already got a head start and
- 3:40Speaker 1: how was prepared at Iowa and it's given him a
- 3:43Speaker 1: head start already among the other rookies on the Seahawks
- 3:46Speaker 1: offensive line. Mason, you heard Curtis Scraptory box thirteen ask
- 3:50Speaker 1: about have you talk to Mason yet? Mason Richmond was
- 3:53Speaker 1: his teammate Stevens's teammate at the University of Iowa. The
- 3:55Speaker 1: Seahawks drafted him last year and because he has a
- 3:58Speaker 1: year of experience on the roster or he's not allowed
- 4:00Speaker 1: to be at a rookie minuting camp. There are rules
- 4:02Speaker 1: against how much time you spent on an active roster.
- 4:05Speaker 1: It disqualifies. That's why jayled Melroe, for instance, wasn't at
- 4:09Speaker 1: the rookie mining camp this week. I do owe you
- 4:12Speaker 1: a keyword, a nationwide keyword for a thousand dollars a
- 4:14Speaker 1: chance to win thousand dollars our Grand Slam cash giveaway.
- 4:16Speaker 1: This out of the word is deposit, like what you
- 4:19Speaker 1: do with the money when you win it. Deposit D
- 4:21Speaker 1: E P O S I T. And that at nine
- 4:24Speaker 1: through three Kjoe dot com. So Saturday, after both Rookie
- 4:28Speaker 1: Minnie camp practices were over, we got to talk to
- 4:31Speaker 1: Mike McDonald and his what he had to say about
- 4:34Speaker 1: what he saw this weekend with the newest Seahawks.
- 4:36Speaker 7: First of all, I wanted to lead with congratulations for
- 4:39Speaker 7: our very own Michael Sean Dugar came to my attention
- 4:43Speaker 7: moving on to great things, and congratulations man.
- 4:46Speaker 4: We're gonna miss you and miss you man. Everything done
- 4:49Speaker 4: for us.
- 4:49Speaker 7: Honestly appreciate your work and hopefully we'll see you more
- 4:52Speaker 7: often than we expect from now on.
- 4:54Speaker 4: But congrats man. Yeah, pretty cool.
- 4:56Speaker 7: Yeah, a great rookie camp. There's a lot of work
- 4:58Speaker 7: that goes into making this thing come to life. I
- 5:00Speaker 7: think we you know, we brought in I don't know
- 5:01Speaker 7: the exact number, but it's a lot of tryout guys.
- 5:04Speaker 4: It's the chasing edges thing that.
- 5:06Speaker 7: We believe in here and we found some really great
- 5:08Speaker 7: players to be on our kind of one twenty idea
- 5:11Speaker 7: over the years.
- 5:12Speaker 4: And you know, logistically.
- 5:13Speaker 7: Between e K and uh travel folks, you know, Jeremy
- 5:19Speaker 7: and his team getting everybody here on time and uh,
- 5:23Speaker 7: you know, it's it's a it's a pretty big undertaking,
- 5:25Speaker 7: you know, for for some edges that we're trying to find.
- 5:28Speaker 7: But uh so I appreciate those people. Coaches did a
- 5:31Speaker 7: great job, We had a great spirit. Players did a
- 5:33Speaker 7: great job. Really took a jump this second this second
- 5:37Speaker 7: practice and started to look like a started to looking
- 5:39Speaker 7: like professional football out there, which is which is exciting.
- 5:42Speaker 4: So but we'll move on. Guys will come back in
- 5:44Speaker 4: a week and then.
- 5:46Speaker 7: Uh, Phase two starts on Monday, so really, uh, exciting
- 5:50Speaker 7: time of the year.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Something of your message to the.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Try out guys like, hey, just because you don't get
- 5:54Speaker 3: called next week.
- 5:55Speaker 7: Doesn't mean you're definitely yeah, definitely, everyone's on a different
- 5:59Speaker 7: timeline and uh, and so I think they understand that.
- 6:03Speaker 4: And that's part of the messaging too.
- 6:04Speaker 7: And we've had several guys that have come back, you know,
- 6:07Speaker 7: in camp or you know even you know, even after camp.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Or after the season.
- 6:12Speaker 7: You know, we've had We've had a couple of examples
- 6:14Speaker 7: of that too, you know, Jail and Gains is the
- 6:16Speaker 7: guy that comes to mind, that's with us now after
- 6:18Speaker 7: not being at.
- 6:18Speaker 4: The end of the season.
- 6:19Speaker 7: So just keep plugging away, try your best, don't worry
- 6:22Speaker 7: about the count and timing and all that, but trust
- 6:25Speaker 7: the process.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Probe a few passes up there.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Yeah he did.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Yeah, just just given that that's kind of one of
- 6:34Speaker 2: the things about it in the draft and that's not.
- 6:37Speaker 4: Like an extra point of emphasis.
- 6:38Speaker 7: I think it's just because of camp, probably more space
- 6:40Speaker 7: plays rather than keeping them in traffic and just trying
- 6:44Speaker 7: to be smart on how we utilize him in this camp,
- 6:47Speaker 7: you know, getting off, but getting off to the right start.
- 6:50Speaker 4: But did a good job, did a good job. But
- 6:53Speaker 4: it's definitely part of our offense.
- 6:57Speaker 7: I don't know you're gonna ask that one, right Uh yeah,
- 7:01Speaker 7: Bo's on the right side right now, but we're gonna
- 7:03Speaker 7: we're gonna train him at those.
- 7:04Speaker 4: Spots and uh, we'll see how it goes.
- 7:07Speaker 7: We'll see how it goes, you know inside and but
- 7:11Speaker 7: you need you need flexibility across really on your interior
- 7:14Speaker 7: party rod line. So he's played both in his career
- 7:16Speaker 7: and right now he's playing right guard, but we'll be
- 7:18Speaker 7: training him in uh right and left.
- 7:21Speaker 6: Julian talked to us yesterday about how much Nick Perry
- 7:24Speaker 6: and Florence's decision to go to marketsofts.
- 7:26Speaker 4: Yeah that's cool.
- 7:28Speaker 6: Did you have any contact with him during the pre
- 7:30Speaker 6: draft process about Julian and how much how much did
- 7:33Speaker 6: that prop him up in terms of being somebody that
- 7:35Speaker 6: you guys are interested in knowing that he's been around
- 7:37Speaker 6: similar terminology.
- 7:38Speaker 7: Yeah, that's a great point. I didn't talk to Nick specifically,
- 7:41Speaker 7: but Leslie did. I think Carl did so, Uh, you know,
- 7:45Speaker 7: obviously we we respect the heck out of Nick's opinion
- 7:48Speaker 7: and and the way he sees things, and he's a
- 7:50Speaker 7: talented coach.
- 7:51Speaker 4: So it definitely sparked interest.
- 7:54Speaker 7: Probably earlier in the process from the coaching from coaching perspective,
- 7:57Speaker 7: our scouts were, we're aware of Julian, you know, throughout
- 8:00Speaker 7: the process going back to Fresno.
- 8:02Speaker 4: So but yeah, that was a cool connection for sure.
- 8:06Speaker 8: Like you've talked about having former players come through and
- 8:09Speaker 8: pass it for those guys.
- 8:11Speaker 4: That Richard Sherman out there. Yeah, yeah, that was awesome.
- 8:14Speaker 7: Uh, it's great to see Sure's you know, he's hopefully
- 8:18Speaker 7: he's got a key here. He's welcome anytime. So it
- 8:20Speaker 7: was it was fun to see him out there and
- 8:22Speaker 7: get caught up. But I know the guys really appreciated it,
- 8:24Speaker 7: so that that was that was fun.
- 8:26Speaker 1: There's a sister of a coach.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Just how important with this these two days. I know
- 8:31Speaker 2: you talked about this, this next level, but how important how.
- 8:34Speaker 7: Must let Yeah, I think we hit our goals. I think,
- 8:37Speaker 7: you know, we have different different agendas for different guys.
- 8:39Speaker 7: The guys that we know we're going to be here.
- 8:41Speaker 7: I think I think we did a great job. You know,
- 8:45Speaker 7: they have a kind of an understanding about how we
- 8:46Speaker 7: operate here now and and it's good to get get
- 8:50Speaker 7: a look at him and get a plan together while
- 8:51Speaker 7: they're while they're out of the building so they can
- 8:53Speaker 7: come back and and be ready, uh, you know next week.
- 8:57Speaker 7: And that's really important. And then uh, to go through
- 9:01Speaker 7: it with with these tryout guys. You know there's some
- 9:02Speaker 7: there's some talented guys that uh, we'll be interested in
- 9:05Speaker 7: it and and uh we'll be a better team for it.
- 9:09Speaker 6: How important is it for you these two days to
- 9:10Speaker 6: be able to get additional looks at players like Ricky
- 9:13Speaker 6: Light the third guys that aren't rookie used, but I
- 9:16Speaker 6: can get extra reps out.
- 9:17Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 9:18Speaker 10: Uh.
- 9:18Speaker 7: And those guys had a great attitude there. They wanted
- 9:21Speaker 7: had a chance to play some extra football and it
- 9:23Speaker 7: was great to just see, you know, see them go
- 9:26Speaker 7: play ball and in our system with you know, some
- 9:29Speaker 7: some new terminology on offense, and it's an opportunity to
- 9:33Speaker 7: get ahead, so to speak. And Ricky did a great
- 9:35Speaker 7: job Montory did a great job. Chris Paul did a
- 9:39Speaker 7: great job.
- 9:39Speaker 4: We had a couple others.
- 9:42Speaker 2: I can said said that he was about Tyle Broden
- 9:45Speaker 2: moving into clatter, which kind of the process.
- 9:48Speaker 7: Well, he was someone that made did did a great
- 9:50Speaker 7: job at the beginning of throughout the process last year.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Unfortunately got hurt.
- 9:54Speaker 7: But we love his movement ability and it's got ball
- 9:57Speaker 7: skills and he competes and it's great, a great attitude
- 9:59Speaker 7: and he felt like it could translate the.
- 10:03Speaker 4: Being heck of a dB one day.
- 10:04Speaker 7: So dealing with some some health things right now in
- 10:08Speaker 7: terms of his his timeline and when he when he
- 10:11Speaker 7: can get back on the field, So right now we're
- 10:13Speaker 7: not exactly sure when that's gonna happen. But he's in
- 10:15Speaker 7: meetings and it's got a great, great spirit about him,
- 10:18Speaker 7: and so we're excited about it.
- 10:19Speaker 4: But yeah, it's a it's a it's gonna take some time,
- 10:24Speaker 4: but he's a great guy for the job.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Do you think that's gonna look like?
- 10:28Speaker 6: I mean, there's not I don't think any cornerback at
- 10:30Speaker 6: six six has ever played in the NFL.
- 10:32Speaker 4: What do you think that's gonna look like? For that
- 10:33Speaker 4: taller guy at that position.
- 10:35Speaker 7: Well, when you he can bend really well, he's not
- 10:38Speaker 7: like just a straight legged six whatever, six foot whatever.
- 10:41Speaker 4: He's he can move and he can.
- 10:43Speaker 7: Get in and out of breaks, and his lateral quickness
- 10:47Speaker 7: is is really good. And he's a great special teams player.
- 10:49Speaker 7: He's a great gunner. So I mean that those are
- 10:51Speaker 7: those are traits that you look for and defensive players.
- 10:54Speaker 7: So we think that's gonna translate.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Tough is the toughest oppositae.
- 10:57Speaker 4: Well for a guy.
- 10:58Speaker 6: And I don't know if he's played corner and asked
- 11:00Speaker 6: all trying to make that stuage over the either side.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Of the football.
- 11:04Speaker 7: Well, you know people people do it all the time,
- 11:06Speaker 7: you know, moving from one side of the ball the
- 11:08Speaker 7: mostly from receiver to dB. So I think, you know,
- 11:12Speaker 7: you don't want to put a timetable on it. You know,
- 11:15Speaker 7: Let's just see see where it goes and see how
- 11:16Speaker 7: he takes it up. And we haven't seen him take
- 11:19Speaker 7: a rep yet at corner, so we'll we'll we'll see,
- 11:21Speaker 7: you know, we'll see when when the time comes.
- 11:25Speaker 4: Uh, I don't know. I don't know the answer to that.
- 11:27Speaker 4: I don't think.
- 11:28Speaker 10: So.
- 11:28Speaker 7: After day two of the draft of John mentioned that
- 11:30Speaker 7: the energy that Button and Julian both bring.
- 11:33Speaker 2: It early, but you get a sense of that just
- 11:35Speaker 2: being practical with those two guys.
- 11:36Speaker 7: Yeah, I think John said he's the opposite of an
- 11:39Speaker 7: energy vampire. Uh Like he just broke down the broke
- 11:44Speaker 7: down the last suddle and you know, the team went
- 11:46Speaker 7: nuts and you could just tell he's got a contagious
- 11:49Speaker 7: spirit about him, which we obviously love that.
- 11:53Speaker 4: Okay, Julian's kind of we had a third practice, it
- 11:56Speaker 4: would have been Julian.
- 11:58Speaker 5: Might here a couple of times. Don't put a timetable
- 12:02Speaker 5: on it?
- 12:03Speaker 6: Why is that important for players to understand that in
- 12:06Speaker 6: home their development?
- 12:08Speaker 4: Well, it's like it's like if you're asked, like how
- 12:12Speaker 4: many games you guys gonna win this year, It's like,
- 12:14Speaker 4: I don't know. You know, It's like, let's why don't
- 12:17Speaker 4: we just worry about having a great phase.
- 12:20Speaker 7: Two day and then let's go have another great one
- 12:22Speaker 7: the next day and make sure it's our standard and
- 12:24Speaker 7: then trust that that's going to create a team that
- 12:28Speaker 7: we're ready to go play football games. So same thing
- 12:30Speaker 7: with player development. When we have goals, you know, and
- 12:32Speaker 7: where we want players and there's timetables behind things. Sometimes
- 12:35Speaker 7: in terms of skill development and you know, body comp
- 12:40Speaker 7: things like that, and so you know, we want to
- 12:42Speaker 7: hit timetable goals on that front. But as long as
- 12:46Speaker 7: you're hitting those markers, you know, why put a cap
- 12:48Speaker 7: on put a cap on things?
- 12:50Speaker 1: What is there having a resource like Richard Sermon talking
- 12:53Speaker 1: to the guys like Neil.
- 12:54Speaker 4: Yeah, it's awesome.
- 12:56Speaker 7: I mean I want one of the best to ever
- 12:58Speaker 7: do it, which is which is cool when he's so
- 13:01Speaker 7: you know, we take a lot of pride and having
- 13:03Speaker 7: great players like that. But you know, technique is important.
- 13:07Speaker 7: But I think just like the ment like just the
- 13:09Speaker 7: mentality that it takes to play you know, dB and
- 13:12Speaker 7: corner at a high level for our organization, you know,
- 13:16Speaker 7: brief life into these guys, you know, there's there's a
- 13:18Speaker 7: lot of things going on in their minds right now
- 13:20Speaker 7: at this point in their careers. And have a guy
- 13:22Speaker 7: like Sherm or Cam come around and and encourage the
- 13:25Speaker 7: guys and have you know, and be positive and things
- 13:27Speaker 7: like that, I think that's uh.
- 13:29Speaker 4: I think that goes along way.
- 13:30Speaker 1: One of the guys not in an hob and is
- 13:32Speaker 1: it okay if they're in a hob?
- 13:33Speaker 7: Richard Sherman yeah, I think it's pretty cool right now. Yeah,
- 13:35Speaker 7: I'm kind of a a of them sometimes.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Seeing Brian Fleury kind of this first time you had
- 13:40Speaker 1: of yeah.
- 13:41Speaker 4: Yeah it's cool. Uh, he's Brian, you know, he's great.
- 13:46Speaker 6: I don't think we've asked you about hard If we have,
- 13:49Speaker 6: I can't remember, But Hard Knuts.
- 13:51Speaker 1: What do you think about it?
- 13:53Speaker 4: It's gonna be great?
- 13:55Speaker 1: Is that your initial thought?
- 13:56Speaker 7: When it was actually my idea that like, yeah, I
- 14:00Speaker 7: pitched it. So yeah, Now I mean it's like, okay,
- 14:04Speaker 7: we're doing Hard Knocks.
- 14:05Speaker 4: Great.
- 14:05Speaker 7: Let's honestly, it doesn't really affect like I haven't really
- 14:11Speaker 7: thought about that much. This hasn't really affected like our
- 14:13Speaker 7: day to day so it's just kind of okay, it's coming,
- 14:15Speaker 7: but make the best of it.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Will be fun.
- 14:18Speaker 9: Like you guys obviously you see some of them high
- 14:20Speaker 9: like keep doing the process gaming about these guys, but
- 14:23Speaker 9: now seeing the un and Garland Field, what's kind of
- 14:24Speaker 9: fit out the group in color? But I'll kind of
- 14:27Speaker 9: specifically about Daring and seen him.
- 14:29Speaker 7: In person, Yeah, yeah, it's it's, Uh, this is a
- 14:33Speaker 7: fun weekend because you do Yeah, you're finally seeing it
- 14:35Speaker 7: in person.
- 14:36Speaker 4: For a lot of the guys. I think I think
- 14:38Speaker 4: you have to.
- 14:40Speaker 7: You know, from the success of our really last year's class,
- 14:44Speaker 7: you can't be married to like what happened. It's kind
- 14:46Speaker 7: of a microcosm for the whole team. You know, he's
- 14:48Speaker 7: got to go at it with a with a new
- 14:50Speaker 7: like fresh lens and an excitement about who these guys
- 14:53Speaker 7: are and let them go be them.
- 14:55Speaker 4: You know, they can't be anybody else.
- 14:56Speaker 7: And there's a newness and a freshness to it that
- 15:00Speaker 7: really our team needs right now, which is cool and uh,
- 15:04Speaker 7: and then let's just go attack it. But I think
- 15:06Speaker 7: I think looking at it like with a with a
- 15:08Speaker 7: fresh perspective is important at this point. Uh, because they
- 15:12Speaker 7: are they are they're new guys, you know, they're they're
- 15:14Speaker 7: a new part of the team, which is uh, which
- 15:16Speaker 7: you'll add an element of excitement to our to our
- 15:18Speaker 7: the rest of the guys, the veterans to phase one.
- 15:22Speaker 1: So Sam darn up picture doing love Yep? Yeah, is
- 15:26Speaker 1: that reminiscent of this time last year when you ended
- 15:28Speaker 1: up with one hundred percent?
- 15:29Speaker 7: And the oka is, well, I don't know if we
- 15:32Speaker 7: had one hundred percent. We had we had a great
- 15:34Speaker 7: participation last year and we've had great participation so far,
- 15:39Speaker 7: and so you know, we expect the same thing from
- 15:41Speaker 7: the guys and and part of that to our responsibilities
- 15:44Speaker 7: coaches to create the environment where they feel like they're
- 15:47Speaker 7: going to be better and and develop their game and
- 15:49Speaker 7: connect to their teammates and and uh and.
- 15:53Speaker 4: Want to be here, you know.
- 15:54Speaker 7: So it's kind of everybody's responsibility at this point in
- 15:56Speaker 7: the year. But you know, they know our expectations right now.
- 16:00Speaker 7: We've communicated that to the guys and so we're it's
- 16:03Speaker 7: kind of like a new day one, you know, starting
- 16:05Speaker 7: on Monday when we start Phase two.
- 16:07Speaker 4: So it's going to be it's gonna be a lot
- 16:09Speaker 4: of fun. But there's a sense urgency too.
- 16:10Speaker 2: You know.
- 16:10Speaker 7: We we have six weeks left in our off season
- 16:13Speaker 7: program and I think that's about twenty twenty four workdays,
- 16:17Speaker 7: and we want to make the best out of each
- 16:18Speaker 7: one of those days.
- 16:20Speaker 1: That was Mike McDonald on Saturday, clean up a couple
- 16:23Speaker 1: of loose ends there. You may need some context on
- 16:25Speaker 1: Michael Sean Dugard to start when he said congratulation, he's
- 16:29Speaker 1: leaving the Seahawks Beat as the athletic beat writer, but
- 16:31Speaker 1: he remains in Seattle he's going to be an enterprise
- 16:34Speaker 1: writer nationally stories on and off the NFL beat for
- 16:38Speaker 1: as he told me, Hey, if there's an F one story,
- 16:40Speaker 1: I comes three six. So the second thing he mentioned
- 16:44Speaker 1: the participation. Now they're in the second phase of their
- 16:47Speaker 1: voluntary off season program, and just within the last hour,
- 16:50Speaker 1: the Seahawks have posted on their social media accounts who
- 16:53Speaker 1: has been arriving today at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center
- 16:56Speaker 1: for the voluntary phase two of the off season program,
- 17:00Speaker 1: and they pictured Devin Witherspoon, Byron, Brian Russell, Brady Russell,
- 17:06Speaker 1: excuse me, Jackson Smith and Jegua. Cooper Cup was pictured
- 17:09Speaker 1: Charles Cross, the left tackle, the right tackle a Lucas,
- 17:13Speaker 1: Brandon Peeley. I saw nick emun worry. There. So a
- 17:17Speaker 1: host of veterans that are showing up for the voluntary
- 17:20Speaker 1: part of not even the OTAs yet, just in the
- 17:24Speaker 1: second phase where they're doing weight training and a little
- 17:27Speaker 1: bit of football work on the field. This bode's well, Chris,
- 17:31Speaker 1: compared to last year this time when they had one
- 17:33Speaker 1: hundred percent OTAs at the end of May in June,
- 17:36Speaker 1: and they got all these chucks coming in here. When
- 17:38Speaker 1: we were excused from this and said don't come back,
- 17:40Speaker 1: and now here they are rolling in.
- 17:42Speaker 3: This is the new Seahawk Way, y'all.
- 17:44Speaker 8: I'm telling you, man, Mike McDonald got these guys lined
- 17:47Speaker 8: up ready to play ball, and it's it starts with
- 17:52Speaker 8: the culture.
- 17:52Speaker 3: What he sets the tone.
- 17:55Speaker 8: And they won a Super Bowl based on showing up
- 17:59Speaker 8: in April and all these little things that I'm not
- 18:04Speaker 8: gonna show up this week. I'm a little tired. I
- 18:06Speaker 8: just got back from my vacation with my wife and family.
- 18:08Speaker 8: Whatever the case. Maybe no, this is all about winning
- 18:14Speaker 8: multiple championships, being the best version of themselves and now
- 18:17Speaker 8: they got it. Not a whole new team, but there's
- 18:20Speaker 8: new players that are gonna be involved in this process
- 18:24Speaker 8: and they're learning the Seahawk Way and it's exciting to
- 18:27Speaker 8: see that. Although he plays it down not one hundred percent,
- 18:31Speaker 8: but at the same time, it's saying it's exactly where
- 18:34Speaker 8: it was last year. You have guys that are ready
- 18:36Speaker 8: to compete, Veterans, young guys, you name it, and they
- 18:42Speaker 8: they are following in his path and his footsteps. And
- 18:45Speaker 8: something that we talked about about two weeks ago in
- 18:48Speaker 8: terms of Ernest Jones saying he's gonna miss the guys. Well,
- 18:52Speaker 8: now it's that time to get back to the swing
- 18:54Speaker 8: of things, practicing, watching film, learning the new scheme, offensively, defensively,
- 18:59Speaker 8: you name that.
- 19:00Speaker 3: So here they go again.
- 19:02Speaker 8: It seems like it was just yesterday, but here we
- 19:05Speaker 8: are in May and they're getting ready for another long
- 19:07Speaker 8: journey and hopes that they can go into the Rams
- 19:11Speaker 8: Stadium and win another Super Bowl.
- 19:13Speaker 1: It was funny to hear his comments about hard Knocks.
- 19:15Speaker 1: He was totally dead panning. As I've gotten to know him,
- 19:18Speaker 1: he wants no part of this, But Bob Candona the
- 19:21Speaker 1: Sale Times ask him and McDonald's said it was actually
- 19:24Speaker 1: my idea to do it. I pushed, I pushed it.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Yeah right, y're lying a great liar though, huh. He said,
- 19:31Speaker 1: all right, we're doing hard Knight's great. It's not going
- 19:33Speaker 1: to affect this day to day. That's the Mike McDonald way.
- 19:36Speaker 1: He's about process and anything in his way. He just
- 19:39Speaker 1: kind of pushes away and ignores, go through, not around.
- 19:42Speaker 1: That's what he tells the players all the time. Four
- 19:44Speaker 1: nine four five want to Koma dodge text line I appreciate. Yeah.
- 19:48Speaker 1: A couple of comments on there, especially two five three,
- 19:50Speaker 1: just say and he could tell the great report we
- 19:53Speaker 1: have I have with coach McDonald. I think so. I
- 19:55Speaker 1: think it's he's he gets it and he's really good
- 19:59Speaker 1: and his messaging both consistent with his players and with
- 20:02Speaker 1: the media. We'll read back your text next on the
- 20:04Speaker 1: text line four nine, four to five one. And then
- 20:06Speaker 1: Chris Crawford leading into his show twelve to three. He's
- 20:09Speaker 1: pinch hitting for Ian Fornest today and they're gonna have
- 20:12Speaker 1: a Mariner's mollywap. That might not be the most uplifting
- 20:14Speaker 1: thing to talk about it in the marators after the
- 20:17Speaker 1: weekend they had that's all coming up a ninety three
- 20:19Speaker 1: point three KJRFM.
- 20:21Speaker 10: Now back to Greg Bell and Christopher Kidd on your
- 20:24Speaker 10: Home for the Huskies Krackin and the twelfth Man Sports
- 20:28Speaker 10: Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.
- 20:34Speaker 1: You know what that music means. Welcome back Greg Bell
- 20:36Speaker 1: to the newstry and Christopher ka Wade as we are
- 20:38Speaker 1: every weekday, ten am the noon, without further ado. It's
- 20:42Speaker 1: your chance to be a part of the show. And
- 20:43Speaker 1: there's a lot of it on there. On the Tacoma
- 20:44Speaker 1: Dodgs text line four nine four five.
- 20:46Speaker 8: One oh Let's start with some Mariners talk lots lots
- 20:52Speaker 8: from Matt out of the four, two, five, the Achilles
- 20:55Speaker 8: Hill of.
- 20:55Speaker 3: This team is Dan Wilson.
- 20:58Speaker 8: He just doesn't have that factor as a manager and
- 21:01Speaker 8: always looks nervous, just doesn't have a feel for the
- 21:05Speaker 8: for the games, always plays the analytics card on what
- 21:09Speaker 8: the paper tells me to do.
- 21:10Speaker 3: He's a quote unquote yes man.
- 21:16Speaker 1: You know, I'm stuck on thinking when I watch the Mariners,
- 21:18Speaker 1: I'm thinking, does he have his job because he's a
- 21:21Speaker 1: yes man to the analytics, which I believe to Poto
- 21:24Speaker 1: and Hollander have said, you're doing this lefty versus righty.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Your pitchers can't pitch a new ending all that analytics
- 21:30Speaker 1: and approach stuff, or is he totally bought it on?
- 21:35Speaker 1: Is he remember he played in an era of baseball
- 21:36Speaker 1: that they didn't have that stuff. There wasn't analytics and
- 21:40Speaker 1: seam heads and accountants running Major League baseball teams. There
- 21:44Speaker 1: were baseball guys running baseball teams. And he's a baseball guy.
- 21:48Speaker 1: So I wonder if the analytics are getting shoved onto
- 21:50Speaker 1: him as a condition for him to have the job.
- 21:53Speaker 1: And maybe a guy like Madden who won the World
- 21:57Speaker 1: Series and was the most attractive of the Hoble manager
- 22:00Speaker 1: at the time, said, no, I'm not playing your analytics
- 22:02Speaker 1: to have Hilt one hundred percent of the time. You know,
- 22:05Speaker 1: I'm not taking that job. Could be that maybe the
- 22:08Speaker 1: other people that they could have gotten that are more
- 22:11Speaker 1: experienced than Dan Wilson didn't agree to the conditions. I'm
- 22:15Speaker 1: totally suppositioning here, that's not my beat. I don't know
- 22:17Speaker 1: inside information on that. I just wonder if the analytics
- 22:21Speaker 1: are being hoisted upon him when he makes the movie.
- 22:23Speaker 8: Makes from the two oh six. My opinion regarding the
- 22:27Speaker 8: Mariners the lack of focus. It seemed to have made
- 22:31Speaker 8: more mental and physical errors the last five weeks than
- 22:34Speaker 8: they did all last season. Play with some enthusiasm and focus.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Yeah, it is concerning, but it also is one hundred
- 22:43Speaker 1: and sixty two game season and it is very hard
- 22:45Speaker 1: for players at time. Now it's only April May, but
- 22:48Speaker 1: it is hard at times to maintain a constant level
- 22:51Speaker 1: of just consistency over one hundred and sixty two games.
- 22:56Speaker 1: It's very hard, very very hard. But the troughs have
- 23:00Speaker 1: far outweighed the peak so far, and that's the concern. Obviously, yeah.
- 23:05Speaker 8: From the two five three, I would send JP packing
- 23:08Speaker 8: and bring up Emerson. As for pitching, send Castile to
- 23:12Speaker 8: the pen, or DFAD bring up Anderson and move Cole
- 23:15Speaker 8: Young to lead off.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Be tough to DFA his contract, though, you'd run to
- 23:21Speaker 1: get something for Luis Castillo that they're waiting, of course,
- 23:25Speaker 1: until Bryce Miller comes back from his extended rehab. Stent
- 23:29Speaker 1: that Emerson Hancock has helped facilitate Hancock. By the way,
- 23:34Speaker 1: we just didn't even mention the top of the show,
- 23:36Speaker 1: fourteen strikeouts and lost. The Mariners had seventeen strikeouts Saturday
- 23:41Speaker 1: night and lost. You have to try to lose pretty
- 23:44Speaker 1: hard to lose a game when you pitch your strikeout seventeen.
- 23:49Speaker 1: That's wild. I have a stat somewhere. I'm gonna dig
- 23:52Speaker 1: it out. But reading you're gonna read the next one. Chris,
- 23:54Speaker 1: got it.
- 23:55Speaker 8: You want to fix the Mariners from the two six
- 23:58Speaker 8: get rid of this lefty writing. Mat said garbage, A
- 24:01Speaker 8: hit or hits, and a pitcher pitches. If someone is hitting,
- 24:03Speaker 8: keep them. If someone is pitching, well, don't just switch
- 24:07Speaker 8: them out for the stats.
- 24:08Speaker 10: Too.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Many close games are being lost to stats.
- 24:12Speaker 1: See I think it's being forced upon him. I thought that.
- 24:15Speaker 1: I think Dan Wilson is a condition of his job.
- 24:17Speaker 1: It was you must one hundred percent of the time
- 24:20Speaker 1: follow the analytics in what our iPad tolls us. I'm
- 24:24Speaker 1: when I watch Manner games, I think that's when he
- 24:27Speaker 1: pinch hits Luke Rayley for Joe. Then I'm like, wait
- 24:33Speaker 1: a minute. He that can't be what his eyes are
- 24:36Speaker 1: telling him.
- 24:37Speaker 3: Probably not.
- 24:38Speaker 1: The Royal Saturday Night were the first team in Major
- 24:40Speaker 1: League history to walk zero times, strikeout seventeen times, hit
- 24:45Speaker 1: zero home runs, yet still win. That's how bad that
- 24:49Speaker 1: weekend series was with.
- 24:50Speaker 8: The Manors, all right, two five three. Everyone talks about
- 24:55Speaker 8: how great Julio is in center field. He made two
- 24:58Speaker 8: plays this weekend that directly cost the Mayor. Are his wins.
- 25:01Speaker 3: I'm not convinced he is the savior. Everyone thinks he is.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Four two five says start holding the players accountable. How
- 25:10Speaker 1: Dan Wilson lose any of the games versus Kansas City? Two?
- 25:15Speaker 1: Dan Wilson is softer than Charman. Bring back Lloyd McClendon.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Got covered Lloyd McClendon, former Pirates player among other teams,
- 25:23Speaker 1: and that was great? Hey two O six, I want
- 25:26Speaker 1: to say this. Shout out to my daughter in law, Noel,
- 25:30Speaker 1: first lieutenant in the US Army. There you go, just
- 25:33Speaker 1: graduated officer training school, headed to Walter Reed Medical Center
- 25:36Speaker 1: as a doctor of physical therapy. Hellou salute to her,
- 25:41Speaker 1: Salute to Noel. Be proud. We need some pets in
- 25:44Speaker 1: the army, some good ones. That's great, good news. Congratulations
- 25:47Speaker 1: to you, Marcus for a long time listener. Texter, call
- 25:50Speaker 1: up Laz and let him play left move Randy as
- 25:53Speaker 1: a rose arena to dh bench. JP Crawford, call up
- 25:56Speaker 1: Colt Emerson Laz. If you don't know, Ozorrow is twenty
- 26:00Speaker 1: one years old. He's a Cuban born in Havana and
- 26:04Speaker 1: he's at Double A Arkansas. He's hitting two forty four
- 26:09Speaker 1: seven home runs, nineteen irbis, a couple of stolen bases
- 26:11Speaker 1: as an outfitter, left handed batter. Six five to ten.
- 26:17Speaker 8: From our guy, Travis Kid, my recommendation a golf cart.
- 26:22Speaker 8: And this is in regards to me running the five
- 26:24Speaker 8: k and what other five k's I should run? He says,
- 26:27Speaker 8: not Chris, just hit the course, you know, go play
- 26:28Speaker 8: a nice little eighteen.
- 26:30Speaker 3: See see how you doing some golf, Travis.
- 26:31Speaker 1: You ready to do it again in two weeks.
- 26:33Speaker 3: Cresh, Yes, I would be up for two weeks. Saw
- 26:35Speaker 3: the six Yeah, the al Qai West Seattle five k.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Although that sounds like hills unless you go along the water.
- 26:40Speaker 3: No, it's they said it's a super flat corse.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Oh long.
- 26:43Speaker 3: Yeah, so I'm shout out to two o six.
- 26:44Speaker 8: I've seen it. I'll look that up. Well I did
- 26:47Speaker 8: look it up. So I just got confront with the wife,
- 26:49Speaker 8: and I think.
- 26:49Speaker 1: We'll be good. I think you should go with the
- 26:51Speaker 1: two oh six says the next five k should be
- 26:54Speaker 1: the BBFR.
- 26:56Speaker 3: I'm gonna let you go ahead, Greg right away.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Man, you want to the bear Buns five run a
- 27:00Speaker 1: Tiger Mountain Family newdist resort. Oh, man, bring your wife
- 27:03Speaker 1: to that one. See how that goes?
- 27:06Speaker 3: Probably t m I. But she's actually she wants to
- 27:10Speaker 3: go to like a nude beach.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Oh, I'm sure she appreciated me.
- 27:14Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, hey, shout out. She probably have her
- 27:17Speaker 8: coworker like your husband was on airs saying that the
- 27:21Speaker 8: next So you have a good evening today, It's okay.
- 27:24Speaker 8: Maybe won't have dinner. You're looking for a fan might
- 27:26Speaker 8: have dinner on the back. You might have dinner, all right,
- 27:29Speaker 8: but maybe not her. Let's see from the four two
- 27:32Speaker 8: five last one for me, because then we get the
- 27:34Speaker 8: mayor or not the mayor. We have Chris Crawford on Dick.
- 27:36Speaker 8: How did Dan Wilson lose any games versus Casey?
- 27:39Speaker 1: Good point. I understand that sentiment. I'm trying to find
- 27:44Speaker 1: the one about the five k that benefits the young gal.
- 27:49Speaker 8: We find that, I will do a quick search. Let's
- 27:53Speaker 8: see if I can find it for you. We got
- 27:56Speaker 8: that one that you just read. Yeah, don't know about
- 27:59Speaker 8: that one there, but hell, hey, nope, that's not it.
- 28:02Speaker 8: Hey kid, check out the Casey ettter Rock Memorial five
- 28:05Speaker 8: K Monroe next year. Great events supporting the community and
- 28:08Speaker 8: remembering a child that left us all too early but
- 28:10Speaker 8: touched a lot of people's lives. Thank you for that recommendation.
- 28:13Speaker 8: Four two five, Casey ed Olrock. And you mentioned the
- 28:18Speaker 8: great five k run, the Roady Run in Mayport Townsend.
- 28:21Speaker 8: I've been to Port Towns in a really cool city.
- 28:23Speaker 8: I need to go back out there, so that's another
- 28:25Speaker 8: good space to go run. Beautiful scenery five O nine.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Kyle Raly goes on the show for an extended period
- 28:31Speaker 1: of time do we start to question the Harry Ford trade.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Remember Harry Ford, top catching prospect played in the futures Game. Yeah,
- 28:41Speaker 1: we didn't seem to need Harry Ford last year. It's
- 28:44Speaker 1: health two five three. Of course, Wilson has this job
- 28:48Speaker 1: because he's following the analytics. He was not coaching anything
- 28:50Speaker 1: when he was hired. He doesn't have a manager of
- 28:52Speaker 1: gut field for baseball because he wasn't exercising that muscle.
- 28:55Speaker 1: He has to go with the analytics. Of course. The
- 28:58Speaker 1: problem with that is the people in charge are the analytics.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Hollander and the Poto are the one to decide who
- 29:05Speaker 1: the manager is. And John Stanton has obviously cast his
- 29:07Speaker 1: lot with the analytics side of baseball, and that's why
- 29:10Speaker 1: he has who he has. It's a president and the
- 29:12Speaker 1: general manager. Well, it looks more and more to me
- 29:16Speaker 1: like that was the condition of the job and they
- 29:18Speaker 1: couldn't get Joe Madden or anybody else if they wanted
- 29:20Speaker 1: to because of that condition. That's just my opinion. I
- 29:24Speaker 1: don't know that for a fact. Keith two five three,
- 29:31Speaker 1: last one, I was a huge NBA fan, then we
- 29:33Speaker 1: lost our team. Now I invested that part of my
- 29:35Speaker 1: heart into the NHL. Watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs versus
- 29:38Speaker 1: the NBA Playoffs has made me wonder if I will
- 29:40Speaker 1: ever be as big an NBA fan as I once was.
- 29:45Speaker 1: I hear you, if you haven't done it, do it,
- 29:49Speaker 1: especially if you're paying for cable for five hundred dollars
- 29:51Speaker 1: a month from Xfinity Comcast Go watch ninety nine cbut
- 29:57Speaker 1: out of Vancouver. Every night CBC and Sports Neet have
- 29:59Speaker 1: the Stanley Cup Playoffs on its unparalleled coverage and it's
- 30:02Speaker 1: an amazing, amazing sporting event every night. It's amazing. Appreciate
- 30:07Speaker 1: all the text. Some kind ones too, Tooto six saying kid,
- 30:11Speaker 1: I thought you don't run next to large bodies of water.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Hey, hey, leave me alone. We've had this discussion last week.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Next Chris Crawford joining me for Crosstock because the infness
- 30:20Speaker 1: is not here. On ninety three point three kJ RFM,

- 30:39Speaker 1: manager A. J. Hintz told reporters that two time defending
- 30:42Speaker 1: cy Young Award winner Trek Screwball of course, went to
- 30:46Speaker 1: Seattle University start for them before the Tigers got him.
- 30:48Speaker 1: He is out indefinitely, probably many months, because he's having
- 30:52Speaker 1: left elbow surgery for the dreaded loose bodies in his
- 30:55Speaker 1: left elbow. He was supposed to start tonight against the
- 30:58Speaker 1: Red Sox, but Terry Scruble is going to be out
- 31:01Speaker 1: for multiple months, maybe three, maybe four, maybe longer with
- 31:06Speaker 1: left elbow surgery. And that's nothing that a pitcher ever
- 31:09Speaker 1: wants to hear. Our baseball guy, Chris Crawford is sitting
- 31:12Speaker 1: next to me. He's filling in for Ian Furness today.
- 31:15Speaker 1: You're shaking your head at that news.
- 31:17Speaker 11: It's just such a bummer because he's such a fun
- 31:20Speaker 11: pitcher to watch and now All Star Break at best
- 31:24Speaker 11: is when you're going to see him back. No guarantee
- 31:26Speaker 11: even that by then. Usually that's a two to three
- 31:28Speaker 11: month thing, and you know that's another competitive team that
- 31:33Speaker 11: is dealing with injury stuff. It's the one nice thing
- 31:36Speaker 11: about what the Seattle's absolutely disastrous start is that outside
- 31:40Speaker 11: of the Yankees, I don't think anybody looks all that good.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Yeah, Yankees are twenty three and eleven, and then that's
- 31:45Speaker 1: pretty much his Yeah, because the Red I mean, we
- 31:48Speaker 1: talked about this a couple times, Chris. As bad as
- 31:50Speaker 1: the Marions have been, and they're now three games under
- 31:52Speaker 1: five hundred. Again, it's still only two and a half back.
- 31:54Speaker 1: It's crazy, it's only two games number five hundred. It's
- 31:57Speaker 1: first place.
- 31:57Speaker 11: Yeah, and that one team is it's still the Athletics
- 32:01Speaker 11: who are in first place, right, Yeah, I just can't
- 32:03Speaker 11: see that holding up. As much as I love that lineup,
- 32:06Speaker 11: there's not enough pitching. The fact they're playing in a
- 32:08Speaker 11: triple A ballpark, literally playing in a Triple A ballpark
- 32:11Speaker 11: creates some interesting disadvantages for them. So yeah, I mean
- 32:15Speaker 11: that's the thing to hang on to here, is that, yes,
- 32:18Speaker 11: it's a basically a quarter of a season of mediocrity,
- 32:22Speaker 11: but it's a quarter of a season for mediocrity from
- 32:24Speaker 11: everybody but at the Yankees in the American League.
- 32:26Speaker 1: That's true. Yeah. The only other team in the American
- 32:30Speaker 1: League that has more than two games over five hundred
- 32:33Speaker 1: record right now are the Rays at twenty one and twelve. Yeah.
- 32:36Speaker 1: The AL Central first place is eighteen and seventeen. Yeah,
- 32:39Speaker 1: that's what the Tigers in the Garden, the Guardians are
- 32:41Speaker 1: both Yeah, so that's the saving grace here for the Mariners.
- 32:47Speaker 1: But we've seen them go from way way back to
- 32:50Speaker 1: way way good.
- 32:51Speaker 11: Yeah, it's but the disappointing thing there is imagine if
- 32:56Speaker 11: you're talking about the Mariners being nineteen and sixteen, and
- 32:58Speaker 11: how much better you're feeling about your first You're in
- 33:00Speaker 11: first place, You've got a three game lead over a
- 33:02Speaker 11: team that still isn't really consideredcerned about winning all that much,
- 33:06Speaker 11: and just looking at the disaster that has been the Astros.
- 33:10Speaker 11: The Angels are just literally a disaster every year. The
- 33:13Speaker 11: Rangers aren't great, but instead they're playing catch up again,
- 33:17Speaker 11: and that's a little frustrating.
- 33:18Speaker 1: That definitely frustrating. What would you do with Luis Castie.
- 33:21Speaker 1: It's obvious that they want to keep him long enough
- 33:25Speaker 1: that if Emerson Hancock stays in the rotation and they
- 33:29Speaker 1: get their full compliment of everybody by s Biller, everyone's
- 33:31Speaker 1: back healthy, that they want to be in a position
- 33:34Speaker 1: I would think to be able to deal that contract
- 33:36Speaker 1: in his experience, would be worth something near July yea,
- 33:42Speaker 1: I would think, but not at zero to three with
- 33:43Speaker 1: a plus six era.
- 33:45Speaker 5: No, he's going to have to pitch better.
- 33:46Speaker 11: I will tell you, I thought yesterday was encouraging if
- 33:49Speaker 11: you take away the fourth inning, which you know, if
- 33:51Speaker 11: you take away a lot of guys innings, they can
- 33:53Speaker 11: have good starts. But the eye test, he passed it
- 33:55Speaker 11: better yesterday. The other five innings were totally fine. Probably
- 33:59Speaker 11: got left in too long by a manager who usually
- 34:02Speaker 11: leaves guys in for too long or makes the wrong
- 34:04Speaker 11: decision quite often. But ultimately, the ultimate question Mark two
- 34:09Speaker 11: or two is Kate Anderson has a zero point three
- 34:11Speaker 11: to seven ERA and a thirty eight to four strikeout
- 34:13Speaker 11: to walk ratio in Double.
- 34:14Speaker 5: A at Double A Arkansas, at Double A Arkansas.
- 34:16Speaker 11: But still and there are better prospects in Double A
- 34:20Speaker 11: than there are in TRIPA A now at this point,
- 34:21Speaker 11: that is just the way baseball is going. That's another
- 34:25Speaker 11: thing to keep an eye on here. Ultimately, I think
- 34:27Speaker 11: the Mariners want Luis Castillo's twenty one million dollar contract
- 34:31Speaker 11: to be worth a twenty one million dollar contract, because
- 34:33Speaker 11: they're not going to sell low on him either. They're
- 34:35Speaker 11: not going to just give him away. As much as
- 34:39Speaker 11: I can get frustrated with Seattle marin or ownership, I
- 34:41Speaker 11: don't think that they're willing to just give a player
- 34:43Speaker 11: like that away. I think ultimately what's going to happen
- 34:47Speaker 11: here is he's going to get at least two or
- 34:49Speaker 11: three more turns through the rotation, and if he struggles,
- 34:52Speaker 11: then he becomes a really expensive multi ning reliever.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Man. Chris brought that up last segment. That would be
- 34:58Speaker 1: Chris is pretty smart, So we talked last segment also,
- 35:03Speaker 1: I I'm how do you feel about this? I am
- 35:06Speaker 1: of the belief that Dan Wilson, the moves he makes
- 35:10Speaker 1: the analytics let's take out Luke Raley for Connor Joe
- 35:14Speaker 1: Sure are forced upon him by a management who this
- 35:17Speaker 1: was a condition of him being hired. And the reason
- 35:19Speaker 1: why we they don't have Joe Madden in that dugout
- 35:22Speaker 1: right now is because Joe Madden looked at this job.
- 35:23Speaker 1: Maybe they have maybe they did ask her and they said,
- 35:26Speaker 1: what Joe Mann's you want me to do analytics one
- 35:29Speaker 1: hundred percent of the time what an iPad tells me,
- 35:31Speaker 1: I'm not doing it? I see you. So they got
- 35:33Speaker 1: Dan Wilson who was willing to do that.
- 35:35Speaker 11: Sure, I mean, there is definitely something to be said
- 35:37Speaker 11: about the people I've talked to suggest this front office
- 35:41Speaker 11: is as involved in decision making, not in game. Some
- 35:45Speaker 11: people picture it like Jerry calling down to Dan and saying,
- 35:48Speaker 11: this is a decision to make.
- 35:49Speaker 1: That happened with the early two thousands, as I believe
- 35:53Speaker 1: that very Bean had a direct line to art Hound
- 35:56Speaker 1: how you used to fume about it to speed writer.
- 35:58Speaker 11: I'm sure that's probably why they've art how Will be
- 36:00Speaker 11: the bad guy in the movie, which is not accurate.
- 36:03Speaker 5: But no, no, no, no.
- 36:04Speaker 11: No, And the same thing with Eric Caboda, by the way,
- 36:06Speaker 11: But I think that there is something to be said
- 36:10Speaker 11: about they are very much in Dan Wilson's head.
- 36:14Speaker 5: They are very much in there now.
- 36:15Speaker 11: Ultimately, the decision making is still Dan Wilson's and Dan
- 36:19Speaker 11: Wilson is still the guy who gets to decide what
- 36:21Speaker 11: relievers come in, what guys are going to be pinch
- 36:24Speaker 11: hit for. But if you don't believe that they're not
- 36:26Speaker 11: having meetings about, hey, this is what we want to do,
- 36:29Speaker 11: then you're living in la la land. And this is
- 36:31Speaker 11: true for a lot of Major League teams, but I
- 36:33Speaker 11: think specifically for Seattle, they are saying, Dan, this is
- 36:37Speaker 11: how we want you to do this. And remember you're
- 36:40Speaker 11: a Mariner Hall of Famer and you can keep your
- 36:42Speaker 11: job for a long time if you can do what
- 36:44Speaker 11: we tell you to do exactly.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Chris, you're going to make your radio history in about
- 36:49Speaker 1: twenty minutes.
- 36:49Speaker 5: All all right, So excited.
- 36:51Speaker 11: I get to ask Hugh Millan at least two questions
- 36:53Speaker 11: in the twenty minutes that we're going to be talking.
- 36:56Speaker 11: We're going to talk about rookie training camp. We're also
- 36:58Speaker 11: going to be talking a little bit about the NBA,
- 37:00Speaker 11: a little bit about the NHL. Did you watch any
- 37:03Speaker 11: of that game? Yes night, Oh my goodness, great, I got.
- 37:05Speaker 1: I came out of eighty degree sun to watch Game
- 37:07Speaker 1: seven Montreal Tampa Bay on CBC sports Net. So good was.
- 37:11Speaker 5: Captivated, Oh so good. And then a nine to six
- 37:14Speaker 5: game one.
- 37:14Speaker 1: I didn't want to open that.
- 37:15Speaker 11: That was a lot of fun as well, because Anders
- 37:17Speaker 11: makes me talk about hockey. He has weapons that I'm
- 37:20Speaker 11: not going to disclose. That make sure we talk about that,
- 37:23Speaker 11: and of course we'll talk a lot about the Mariners.
- 37:25Speaker 1: In Molliwap Monday, Chris Crawford is, Oh, that Mollywop is
- 37:28Speaker 1: probably gonna be up.
- 37:29Speaker 5: Should be a good one.
- 37:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you guys, you guys aren't going to be sarcastic
- 37:33Speaker 1: or down at all of them.
- 37:34Speaker 11: Yeah, there's no Canadian to try to talk to us
- 37:36Speaker 11: about anything, to talk us down.
- 37:38Speaker 5: We will be just fine.
- 37:40Speaker 1: That's Ian Fornessa's gone today. So Chris Crawford is going
- 37:43Speaker 1: to be in with Andrews and Jessmin. That's for the
- 37:45Speaker 1: next twelve to three. He'll have keywords a thousand dollars
- 37:48Speaker 1: keywords on our Grand Slam cash gave away. Greg Bell,
- 37:51Speaker 1: The News Stribune, Christopher Kidd, thank you as always for
- 37:53Speaker 1: joining us, Thanks for giving us suggestions. I'm with Chris's
- 37:56Speaker 1: next five to ten k race should be including to
- 37:58Speaker 1: the newdest camp on Tiger Mountain.
- 38:00Speaker 5: Beautiful.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Christ is up next to ninety three point three KJFM.
