- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo! Luna: Thanks Lucas! Happy to be here. Episode twelve already, wow. Lucas: I know! Time flies when you're learning Spanish. So today we're going to revisit a super common exchange. Luna: Ooh, I'm ready. What is it? Lucas: A really casual way to ask 'How are you?' in Spanish. You already know '¿Cómo estás?' from a previous episode. Luna: Right! ¿Cómo estás? I remember that. Lucas: Perfect. And the simplest answer is 'Bien, gracias' – 'Fine, thanks.' But today we're going to add a little twist. Luna: A twist? I love twists. What is it? Lucas: Instead of just 'Bien, gracias,' we'll add '¿y tú?' which means 'and you?' So the whole response is: 'Bien, ¿y tú?' Luna: Oh, so I'm asking back. That's nice. Bien, ¿y tú? Let me try: bien, ¿y tú? Lucas: Yes! That was really good. Just a tiny note: the 'y' sounds like 'ee' – 'y tú' – so 'ee too'. Try again? Luna: Bien, ¿y tú? Bien, ¿y tú? Yeah, I like that. Lucas: Exactly. So the full exchange: I ask '¿Cómo estás?' and you answer 'Bien, ¿y tú?' Luna: Got it. So if you say '¿Cómo estás?' to me, I'll say 'Bien, ¿y tú?' Lucas: Let's practice right now. ¿Cómo estás, Luna? Luna: Bien, ¿y tú? Lucas: Muy bien – that's 'very good.' And I would say 'Bien, gracias' or 'Bien, ¿y tú?' too. So we have a natural back-and-forth. Luna: I love that it's so simple. Casual and friendly. Lucas: Exactly. Let's do a tiny role-play. Imagine we bump into each other at a coffee shop. Luna: Okay! I'm walking in, you're at the counter. Lucas: Hola, Luna! ¿Cómo estás? Luna: ¡Hola! Bien, ¿y tú? Lucas: Bien, gracias. See? Perfect natural flow. Luna: That felt real. And I remembered to say 'Hola' from episode one. Lucas: You're putting it all together. Now let's try another one. This time you ask me first. Luna: Okay, um... ¿Cómo estás, Lucas? Lucas: Bien, ¿y tú? Luna: Bien, gracias. Oh, that was easy! Lucas: See? You're already having a mini conversation in Spanish. Luna: I'm so proud of myself. So today's phrases are: '¿Cómo estás?' and 'Bien, ¿y tú?' Lucas: Exactly. Let's repeat them a few times. Say after me: ¿Cómo estás? Luna: ¿Cómo estás? Lucas: Bien, ¿y tú? Luna: Bien, ¿y tú? Lucas: One more time: ¿Cómo estás? Luna: ¿Cómo estás? Lucas: Bien, ¿y tú? Luna: Bien, ¿y tú? Lucas: Perfect. Now, here's a quick recap quiz. I'll say the English, you say the Spanish. Luna: Okay, I'm ready. Lucas: How are you? Luna: ¿Cómo estás? Lucas: Fine, and you? Luna: Bien, ¿y tú? Lucas: Awesome. And for 'fine, thanks' we already know 'Bien, gracias.' But today's combo is 'Bien, ¿y tú?' Luna: Right. So I can use either one. Lucas: Exactly. Depending on how much you want to ask back. Both are perfectly fine. Luna: I think I'll use 'Bien, ¿y tú?' a lot because it keeps the conversation going. Lucas: Great instinct. That's what makes it sound natural. Alright, we're almost done. Let's do one final round of repetition. Luna: Let's do it. Lucas: ¿Cómo estás? Luna: ¿Cómo estás? Lucas: Bien, ¿y tú? Luna: Bien, ¿y tú? Lucas: Excellent. That's your Spanish for today. Practice these phrases with a friend, or just say them to yourself in the mirror. Luna: I'm going to use them on my roommate later. She'll be so impressed. Lucas: She will. Thanks for joining me on another episode of Learn Spanish with Fexingo. Luna: Thanks Lucas! See you next time. Lucas: Hasta luego, Luna. And to all our listeners, keep practicing and we'll chat again soon. ¡Adiós! Luna: ¡Adiós!
