- 0:18Speaker 1: a hater. It is that time of week where we
- 0:20Speaker 1: have a guest join us. Check her out on the
- 0:22Speaker 1: Mina Kams show featuring Lenny. And they make her go
- 0:25Speaker 1: to every Monday night football game. Now, Mina Kams, what's
- 0:28Speaker 1: going on?
- 0:29Speaker 2: Philadelphia next week.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Yeah, and you're married to an Eagles fan. You are
- 0:36Speaker 1: mired in this.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Rancid vibes there right now. Just rancid. Actually, but I
- 0:41Speaker 2: think the Cowboys, so ain't no way they're, let me
- 0:43Speaker 2: check that.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Yes, they are.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Getting rid of that game. But yeah, that's who's going
- 0:50Speaker 2: to win the NFC East conversation is probably going to
- 0:52Speaker 2: happen all week.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Well, actually, I think the most fun part about covering
- 0:55Speaker 1: a game like that for you is is no one
- 0:57Speaker 1: will ever sound more optimistic about tanner mckee than the
- 1:01Speaker 1: world will for the whole afternoon leading up to that
- 1:03Speaker 1: game because this network is not in the business of
- 1:06Speaker 1: telling people not to watch stuff that's true i i.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Do think it's funny because when tanner mckee first came
- 1:11Speaker 2: on the scene he had and you you're very familiar
- 1:13Speaker 2: with this uh phenomena with uh certain backup yes um
- 1:17Speaker 2: there was enthusiasm around him but i think that's evaporated
- 1:20Speaker 2: in philadelphia philly fans are the best man they're either
- 1:24Speaker 2: like you dumbass sorry weren't you idiots were the best
- 1:27Speaker 2: teams in the nfl how dare you.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Not respect us this ain't that kind of show you
- 1:31Speaker 1: can do whatever you want you ain't gotta worry about
- 1:33Speaker 1: that playmakers playmaker sports is not uh coming down hitting.
- 1:36Speaker 2: The button on you All right, so it's either that
- 1:39Speaker 2: or it's we have the worst team in the NFL.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Fire everyone. We hate all of our players. How dare
- 1:44Speaker 2: you think any of them are worth anything? So it's
- 1:46Speaker 2: either one or the other, and right now we're obviously
- 1:48Speaker 2: in negative territory.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Now, Mina, those who are watching, you can see that
- 1:53Speaker 1: tattoo of the Roman numerals. That's from when the Seahawks
- 1:55Speaker 1: won the Super Bowl the first time, not the second time.
- 1:59Speaker 1: And did you expect that they would be three games
- 2:01Speaker 1: out of first place six weeks into the season?
- 2:05Speaker 2: Uh, no, I did. I think the Rams is more
- 2:08Speaker 2: surprising than the Seahawks. So I think the Seahawks are,
- 2:11Speaker 2: they're all kind of benefiting a little bit from that
- 2:13Speaker 2: because of the super team stuff with LA, right? Like
- 2:16Speaker 2: going into the season, it was that nobody believes in
- 2:18Speaker 2: the Seahawks, so disrespected. And now it's like, well, the
- 2:22Speaker 2: Rams were supposed to be dominant.
- 2:24Speaker 1: What about them, huh? Right.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I think there's some surprising things and some unsurprising things as, however,
- 2:33Speaker 2: the mayor of, Sam Darnold, same Darnold Island, pardon me.
- 2:38Speaker 2: You are living proof that if you just wait on
- 2:40Speaker 2: a take.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Just can't give up.
- 2:46Speaker 2: How's that feel for you?
- 2:47Speaker 1: Oh man, it's great. Cause I had every reason to
- 2:49Speaker 1: get off my square. You know what I mean? Like
- 2:51Speaker 1: they won a whole Super Bowl and I swore I
- 2:53Speaker 1: was never wrong. I swore I was. And I tried
- 2:56Speaker 1: not to get too caught up in that, whether I'm right,
- 2:58Speaker 1: whether I'm wrong. But this one I was not giving
- 3:01Speaker 1: up on, man. I refuse. And I'm curious, what would
- 3:05Speaker 1: it take for you to say, you know what, Drew,
- 3:08Speaker 1: go get in the game?
- 3:10Speaker 2: Yeah, that's tricky because you're asking me two questions. One,
- 3:15Speaker 2: am I skeptical of Sam Darnold?
- 3:17Speaker 1: 100%.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Do I think he's the reason why they're losing games? Absolutely.
- 3:21Speaker 2: As we discussed before, the internet basically dragged me for it.
- 3:24Speaker 2: full on year because I was a Sam Darnold skeptic myself,
- 3:27Speaker 2: but there's two questions. The other one is, do you
- 3:29Speaker 2: believe in drew lock?
- 3:30Speaker 1: No.
- 3:33Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? Like, it's not like you're
- 3:34Speaker 2: asking me like, Oh, are you worried about Sam Darnold?
- 3:36Speaker 2: You're also asking me, do you think drew lock can
- 3:38Speaker 2: come in and make a difference? I know he looked
- 3:40Speaker 2: good in the beginning of the season, but I am
- 3:44Speaker 2: skeptical that it would be that different because I think Seattle,
- 3:47Speaker 2: I think they're kind of similar quarterbacks really in a way.
- 3:49Speaker 2: And I also think Seattle's just got like majorly fundamental
- 3:52Speaker 2: issues with their offense that I wouldn't say are responsible
- 3:56Speaker 2: for the bad quarterback play, but exacerbate or are bad
- 4:00Speaker 2: for a certain type of quarterback, which is to say
- 4:02Speaker 2: one who takes unnecessary risks.
- 4:03Speaker 1: So what do you say the problems are?
- 4:06Speaker 2: Well, there's a certain running back coming to town this
- 4:09Speaker 2: week who they miss great dearly. I think they can't
- 4:13Speaker 2: run the ball. And then it's just way too, it's
- 4:16Speaker 2: like J a center bust right now. I mean, he's
- 4:19Speaker 2: got like a 50 something insane target share and, You
- 4:23Speaker 2: see Darnold locking in on him. You see Darnold passing
- 4:26Speaker 2: up sometimes, open the tight ends and whatnot. Some of
- 4:30Speaker 2: it is not his fault. I think they miss Clint Kubiak, right?
- 4:34Speaker 2: And they're not doing a good job of getting the
- 4:35Speaker 2: other players involved. But the offense isn't just one-dimensional because
- 4:39Speaker 2: one-dimensional implies you pass or run. It's one-player dimensional, which
- 4:44Speaker 2: is usually not a great formula for success.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Let me tell you the illogical way I've dealt with
- 4:48Speaker 1: him coming out of college. I really only remembered watching
- 4:52Speaker 1: him clearly play in one game, and it was that
- 4:55Speaker 1: Rose Bowl where he had like 300-something yards receiving, which
- 5:00Speaker 1: ordinarily under such circumstances, you'd be like, yo, I saw
- 5:02Speaker 1: this dude had 300 yards receiving. You got to take
- 5:04Speaker 1: him first. No, not my big-brained ass. I was like, wow,
- 5:07Speaker 1: what an outlier performance. Clearly that cannot be taken as
- 5:09Speaker 1: a reflection of how good this guy will be. But
- 5:12Speaker 1: I did not ascribe that to Stroud. from that game.
- 5:16Speaker 1: And then Stroud, like, solidified it for me in that
- 5:20Speaker 1: Peach Bowl the following year. But the logic of me,
- 5:22Speaker 1: he was just a little bit too good for me
- 5:24Speaker 1: to be sure that he's actually going to be good.
- 5:26Speaker 1: And now he's in the NFL, like, on the Jordan Jefferson,
- 5:29Speaker 1: Jamar Chase tier of receivers.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I mean, I thought he would be good.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Justin Jefferson. Ryan already laughing at me because I called
- 5:35Speaker 1: him Jordan Jefferson again. My bad.
- 5:39Speaker 2: I thought... he would be good. Jason. I didn't think
- 5:43Speaker 2: he would be this good. Cause he was, they used
- 5:47Speaker 2: him downfield some Ohio state for sure. But like, it
- 5:49Speaker 2: wasn't like what he does now. Like he is a
- 5:51Speaker 2: player who has consistently gotten better every year in the NFL.
- 5:55Speaker 2: He was really misused early in his career in Seattle.
- 5:58Speaker 2: It was all those like short passes and screens, which
- 6:00Speaker 2: now in retrospect is insane. But I like, I didn't
- 6:04Speaker 2: think he would, be in the conversation you're describing, which
- 6:08Speaker 2: is either one or top three at worst.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Yeah. You mentioned them playing the Chiefs, and you talk
- 6:13Speaker 1: about Kenneth Walker, who's leading the league in rushing. And
- 6:15Speaker 1: Andy Reid, who's never really loved running the ball, is like, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Let's go ahead and do it this time. Patrick Mahomes
- 6:21Speaker 1: looked like nothing ever happened. He looked like he just
- 6:23Speaker 1: needed what he really needed. I wouldn't be surprised if
- 6:25Speaker 1: we find out he didn't actually tear his ACL last year.
- 6:27Speaker 1: They just needed a way for him to get out
- 6:29Speaker 1: of here and stop wasting his time with the bum
- 6:31Speaker 1: situation they had. Because now they're undefeated, and everything looks
- 6:35Speaker 1: like it always looked.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Yeah, the Walker stuff's crazy, because... I thought it was
- 6:41Speaker 2: a good pickup. I thought they obviously needed a back.
- 6:44Speaker 2: The run game hasn't been explosive. And I also thought
- 6:48Speaker 2: the insider offensive line is very strong. It's better than Seattle.
- 6:51Speaker 2: So I thought he's actually going to a superior situation.
- 6:53Speaker 2: I wouldn't be surprised if he looks good. But when
- 6:56Speaker 2: you watch him, sometimes when you watch a run game
- 6:59Speaker 2: and you think... anyone could put up i mean that
- 7:03Speaker 2: typically is most run games in the nfl it's not
- 7:05Speaker 2: that running backs the reason why like the nerds are
- 7:07Speaker 2: always like well the running backs are kind of replaced
- 7:09Speaker 2: was like the offensive line matters so much the scheme
- 7:12Speaker 2: matters so much the blocking that we see great backs
- 7:14Speaker 2: for example saquon barkley can't run the ball for shit
- 7:16Speaker 2: suddenly now that the eagles offensive line is bad right
- 7:19Speaker 2: but when you watch kansas city and like you watch
- 7:21Speaker 2: him and i know you feel the same way It's
- 7:23Speaker 2: similar to Bijan. I would put them, and I guess
- 7:26Speaker 2: Gibbs is in that top three right now. Definitely Gibbs, sorry.
- 7:30Speaker 2: He's doing it on his own. It is like watching
- 7:34Speaker 2: Patrick Mahomes in the passing game sometimes where it's not there.
- 7:38Speaker 2: There's no lane there. The defender's in the backfield, and
- 7:40Speaker 2: he's just juking dudes, forcing missed tackles, breaking tackles, getting explosives.
- 7:46Speaker 2: I don't think I've ever... He absolutely is in the
- 7:51Speaker 2: MVP top three for me right now, which is I
- 7:53Speaker 2: don't think I've ever said that about a running back.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I enjoy hearing you gush over a running back. Mina's
- 7:58Speaker 1: more futuristic than I am. She ain't got the love
- 8:00Speaker 1: for the running backs like some of us had the
- 8:02Speaker 1: love for them. But to be fair, you were an
- 8:05Speaker 1: early Bijan adopter. You never tried to fight her. You
- 8:07Speaker 1: just wouldn't have used a first-round pick on obvious greatness,
- 8:10Speaker 1: which is its own discussion to itself. But, you know,
- 8:13Speaker 1: I like hearing you be happy about what a running
- 8:16Speaker 1: back can do, even if it's the one that used
- 8:17Speaker 1: to play for your team. You know what I mean?
- 8:19Speaker 2: Right. not bitter you know um but yeah this is
- 8:24Speaker 2: could get i what i think is gonna be seattle's
- 8:27Speaker 2: a very good run defense still right so i am
- 8:29Speaker 2: interested in seeing this is definitely for kansas city the
- 8:33Speaker 2: best run defense they've gone up against so i'll be
- 8:35Speaker 2: curious to see if they can uh kind of put
- 8:38Speaker 2: a stop to what we've seen so.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Far yeah so what have you seen from my homes
- 8:42Speaker 1: this year.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Man, he looks great, but what is, like you said,
- 8:47Speaker 2: coming off the ACL, he looks completely fine, scrambling under center,
- 8:51Speaker 2: turning his back to the defense, moving around, making plays
- 8:53Speaker 2: outside of structure. I just really worry about this wide
- 8:55Speaker 2: receiver group. We got you about Kenneth Walker and the
- 8:58Speaker 2: run game, and they're finally, you know, they actually have
- 9:00Speaker 2: like a coherent play action passing attack attached to that,
- 9:03Speaker 2: which they haven't had in years, but quietly and i
- 9:07Speaker 2: never thought this is like a crazy sentence like the
- 9:09Speaker 2: taekwondo injury is a big deal in kansas city um
- 9:12Speaker 2: so they're one where i would really look for them
- 9:15Speaker 2: to be active ahead of the trade deadline in terms
- 9:17Speaker 2: of adding a receiver because mahomes is throwing it deep
- 9:19Speaker 2: better than he has in quite some time the problem
- 9:21Speaker 2: right now is there's no one on the receiving end
- 9:24Speaker 2: of that because you don't trust xavier worthy so i
- 9:26Speaker 2: would like for kansas city to.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Go out and get someone how was uh pops kelsey
- 9:29Speaker 1: looking this year i ain't really had a chance to
- 9:31Speaker 1: lock in to see if he's you know got any
- 9:33Speaker 1: business out there anymore he.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Looks pretty good i mean he's obviously not like prime
- 9:37Speaker 2: kelsey but he he's moving well i mean i i
- 9:41Speaker 2: he looks i would say like a little bit better
- 9:43Speaker 2: than last year to be honest which is pretty wild now.
- 9:46Speaker 1: It's interesting with this chiefs team because i feel like
- 9:50Speaker 1: what we saw from them last year it was like
- 9:52Speaker 1: oh this thing is on its way down it's on
- 9:55Speaker 1: its way out and i don't because of the mahomes
- 9:57Speaker 1: injury i feel like in the off season, we never
- 9:59Speaker 1: asked ourselves a lot of questions about, so what's happening next,
- 10:03Speaker 1: you know, or at least over here in the, in
- 10:04Speaker 1: the space of the generalist is like, Oh yeah, that's right.
- 10:06Speaker 1: The chiefs, my home's going to come back. I wonder
- 10:08Speaker 1: what that looks like. And I'm pretty sure he did
- 10:11Speaker 1: it to America's team, the Detroit lions. And I looked
- 10:13Speaker 1: at that and I was, first of all, that was,
- 10:15Speaker 1: you know, we'll talk about those guys a little bit later, but,
- 10:20Speaker 1: anybody could do what he did to them. Like me
- 10:22Speaker 1: and you can go out there and we can play
- 10:23Speaker 1: pitch and catch against those cats. And then it just
- 10:25Speaker 1: kept going. And it was like, Oh, okay, no, this
- 10:27Speaker 1: is real. Got it. Yeah.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Well, that's, I do want to talk about them because
- 10:31Speaker 2: I want to ask you as a lifelong lions fan,
- 10:33Speaker 2: if you want them to add some corners and stuff,
- 10:36Speaker 2: or if like, well put a pin in that. Cause
- 10:38Speaker 2: I want to ask you about it. Cause there's, there's
- 10:39Speaker 2: a few teams that are extremely lopsided offense defense in
- 10:43Speaker 2: the league right now. And they're kind of the poster
- 10:44Speaker 2: child for it, but yeah, it, it, I think the
- 10:47Speaker 2: thing with Kansas City, though, that we're talking about the
- 10:50Speaker 2: offense and Kenneth Walker and Mahomes coming back, the defense
- 10:54Speaker 2: appears to have hit on like a bunch of picks.
- 10:56Speaker 2: And that's what it was kind of back against the
- 10:58Speaker 2: wall for the GM, Brett Veach, right? Brett Veach, because
- 11:02Speaker 2: you let Trent McDuffie walk for the draft pick, who,
- 11:04Speaker 2: by the way, is still awesome in L.A. And they
- 11:07Speaker 2: haven't been able to get much of a pass rush.
- 11:10Speaker 2: And what you've seen this year is not only some
- 11:12Speaker 2: of the young players that they've added, like Master Delane
- 11:15Speaker 2: looks incredible at corner. But also some of the draft
- 11:17Speaker 2: picks in recent years are playing at a high level
- 11:20Speaker 2: now up front. And then suddenly you feel pretty good
- 11:22Speaker 2: about this defense really at all three levels. I think
- 11:25Speaker 2: it's a top 10 defense easily. And as we know,
- 11:28Speaker 2: that's really all you need with the homes.
- 11:31Speaker 1: You mentioned the Rams. So what's your read aside for
- 11:34Speaker 1: the fact now that, uh, Devontae Adams is hurt for
- 11:37Speaker 1: six to 10 weeks. And sometime in that six to
- 11:40Speaker 1: 10 weeks, Puka Nakua is going to get hurt. We
- 11:41Speaker 1: don't know what, we don't know exactly how we just
- 11:43Speaker 1: know that the likelihood is you can't play like that
- 11:45Speaker 1: and stay healthy, but for one month at a time.
- 11:47Speaker 1: So what, what, what is your read on what's happened?
- 11:50Speaker 1: Cause I think almost to be fair to the Rams,
- 11:52Speaker 1: a couple of things break differently and we're just having
- 11:54Speaker 1: an entire, we can be having a four and two
- 11:56Speaker 1: conversation about them very easily.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, so if not for their disastrous special teams,
- 12:01Speaker 2: they would probably be 4-2, right?
- 12:02Speaker 1: By the way, how is Sean McVay the genius man
- 12:05Speaker 1: that allows this to happen? This is a Chargers mistake.
- 12:09Speaker 2: It's been many years. They lost to Seattle because of
- 12:11Speaker 2: special teams. They just can't fix it. They've been trying.
- 12:16Speaker 2: They tried hiring a new coach. They stuck with the
- 12:19Speaker 2: same kicker and punter, which I think you kind of
- 12:21Speaker 2: side-eye now a little bit, but yeah, it's been... The
- 12:24Speaker 2: punter's fine. It's been an issue with this team for
- 12:28Speaker 2: some time, and I don't really get it, frankly. They
- 12:31Speaker 2: just are trying all over again with the new kicker.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Of course, they brought the new kicker, and then he
- 12:36Speaker 2: immediately gets hurt.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Trying to make a tackle. 156 pounds.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Crazy. But, yeah, I would say even if they won
- 12:45Speaker 2: those games and they were 4-2, I would still have
- 12:47Speaker 2: a lot of questions about this team, right, separate from
- 12:50Speaker 2: the record. The offense just looks worse than it did
- 12:52Speaker 2: last year. Um, Matthew Stafford just looks a little bit
- 12:56Speaker 2: worse at everything. Honestly, like he's still, it's not like
- 12:59Speaker 2: an arm strength thing. You can still make the difficult throws,
- 13:02Speaker 2: but he clearly don't want to get hit. He's clearly
- 13:04Speaker 2: got some diminished mobility. He's never been a mobile quarterback,
- 13:06Speaker 2: obviously to begin with. Uh, and then the one thing
- 13:10Speaker 2: that I've, I've kind of hit last year, this was
- 13:12Speaker 2: such a devastating play action tack on early downs. So
- 13:15Speaker 2: Matthew Stafford was like very rarely pressured because on the
- 13:18Speaker 2: first down and second down, they'd be able to, you know,
- 13:20Speaker 2: run the play fake and hit an explosive. that's kind
- 13:23Speaker 2: of disappeared for a litany of reasons. And I think
- 13:26Speaker 2: that's sort of the cascade that's created like this cascading
- 13:29Speaker 2: effect where everything else is worse because of it. So
- 13:33Speaker 2: it's not good. I mean, here's something, by the way,
- 13:35Speaker 2: I want to, I want to bring this up to
- 13:36Speaker 2: you because I feel like nobody's talking about this. Okay.
- 13:38Speaker 2: So all these injuries, we can talk about the fact
- 13:41Speaker 2: that they take a quarterback with pick 13.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Like if you're like, that just any quarterback, a quarterback
- 13:46Speaker 1: that none of us would have taken with the 13th pick.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Could use a wide receiver right now.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Yes.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Could use a tight end.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Yeah, they were out there running all that 13 personnel
- 13:57Speaker 1: the first week. That's one running back and three tight ends.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Because they didn't have enough receivers, basically, to try it
- 14:03Speaker 1: out an actual, like, proper NFL offense.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Casey Concepcion, sure looks good in Cleveland.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:09Speaker 2: I mean, I just think.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Maybe we got to talk about that too with the
- 14:14Speaker 2: GM because you go all in on this super team
- 14:16Speaker 2: timeline and you're trying to have it both ways.
- 14:19Speaker 1: And they don't have a first round pick next year.
- 14:21Speaker 1: They only have something like four picks in the draft,
- 14:23Speaker 1: I think, in total next year. No, no, no. The
- 14:26Speaker 1: fuck them picks approach to building a team. It's good
- 14:30Speaker 1: when you win, which they did five years ago, which
- 14:32Speaker 1: is a lifetime under these circumstances. Yeah. I would also
- 14:37Speaker 1: like to point out that kind of the way you're
- 14:38Speaker 1: talking about Matthew Stafford reminds me a bit of the way, now, granted,
- 14:42Speaker 1: this was a long time ago, but kind of similar
- 14:44Speaker 1: to the way we talked about Matt Ryan the year
- 14:46Speaker 1: after he won an MVP, which is just my way
- 14:49Speaker 1: of bringing up to people Matthew Stafford. Kind of similar.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Kind of like Matt Ryan with a strong arm. Speaking
- 14:59Speaker 1: of things, squares I'm not moving off of.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the... think about when you don't have
- 15:06Speaker 2: when you're not a mobile quarterback right and i mean
- 15:09Speaker 2: shoot even if you are like rogers well although sometimes
- 15:12Speaker 2: rogers will like out of nowhere just bust a weird
- 15:14Speaker 2: like escape and make a play it's like you see
- 15:17Speaker 2: the like a weird glimpse of the old rogers but
- 15:19Speaker 2: i think with some of these aging and mobile quarterbacks
- 15:23Speaker 2: you realize how late in their careers they got to
- 15:26Speaker 2: be supported by everything else and when everything else starts
- 15:29Speaker 2: to go down a little bit, then the cracks begin
- 15:32Speaker 2: to appear.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Well, you also point to the thing about old quarterbacks that,
- 15:36Speaker 1: I mean, honestly, I'm surprised it doesn't apply to young
- 15:38Speaker 1: quarterbacks also, but the older them cats get, man, they
- 15:41Speaker 1: ain't really trying to take that heat, man. They're not
- 15:44Speaker 1: trying to take them blows this much serious. Totally.
- 15:49Speaker 2: It's so obvious. You know, and that's what I'll say
- 15:51Speaker 2: about Jared Goff. He'll stand in there and take a hit.
- 15:54Speaker 1: He's playing really well right now.
- 15:56Speaker 3: By the way.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Jared Goff is the top three MVP. candidate so far
- 16:00Speaker 1: this year he is he is he's I remember it
- 16:03Speaker 1: was last year you asked me something by Jerry Goff
- 16:05Speaker 1: and I simply made the point that we are somewhat
- 16:07Speaker 1: fortunate to have a quarterback as good as he is
- 16:09Speaker 1: limitations nonetheless and you said I had changed you know
- 16:12Speaker 1: that the way I was talking about him was an
- 16:14Speaker 1: indicator that I was speaking more with sentiment and while
- 16:16Speaker 1: you're not terribly wrong I just want to point out
- 16:19Speaker 1: you could do a lot worse in this league than
- 16:21Speaker 1: Jerry Goff I want to.
- 16:22Speaker 2: See you in a Jared Goff jersey. Can we crowdsource one?
- 16:25Speaker 1: That's a visual I want. You know, not to make
- 16:29Speaker 1: it dark, but I already got one white man's name
- 16:31Speaker 1: on my back. I ain't really trying to put a
- 16:32Speaker 1: second one on top of it. You know what I mean?
- 16:35Speaker 1: We got rules in the Jones house where we try
- 16:37Speaker 1: to lie. Walking out here wearing a Jared Goff jersey. Hell, no,
- 16:40Speaker 1: I would wear a Luka Tocci's jersey, let alone a
- 16:42Speaker 1: Jared Goff.
- 16:43Speaker 2: All right, maybe a little Jared Goff bobblehead for the backdrop.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Yeah, no, there's only one white man's jersey in the
- 16:47Speaker 1: NFL that I would wear, and it's because I'm a
- 16:49Speaker 1: good ally, and that's Riley Moss. And I have, in fact,
- 16:52Speaker 1: looked online for my Riley Moss jersey. And for reasons
- 16:54Speaker 1: I don't understand, the Broncos don't just make those from scratch.
- 16:59Speaker 1: And I'm kind of I feel like it's, you know,
- 17:03Speaker 1: they just I hate to see that. I hate to
- 17:06Speaker 1: see self-loathing manifest itself with the way that rather than
- 17:09Speaker 1: trying to lift that man up, they knock him down
- 17:11Speaker 1: for even trying. You know what I mean? And I
- 17:13Speaker 1: don't want that. I want to anywhere. Number 21, the audacity.
- 17:17Speaker 1: I stand with Riley Moss.
- 17:19Speaker 2: You stand with Riley Moss, yeah.
- 17:20Speaker 1: And I'm sorry Broncos would be better if he healthy
- 17:23Speaker 1: out there, too. They kind of need him.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Yeah, Riley Moss isn't the one who's throwing 3.9 air yards.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Speaking of not moving off your square. Like, I feel like.
- 17:38Speaker 1: You just wait.
- 17:39Speaker 2: They went out, you know.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Just wait.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Some things you just got to wait for.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I feel like with Bo Nix, it's a whole bunch
- 17:44Speaker 1: of everybody with the Broncos just pointing. Like, whose job
- 17:48Speaker 1: is it to fix this? My hot take was that
- 17:51Speaker 1: it wasn't so much Sean Payton blaming Davis Webb. It
- 17:54Speaker 1: was Sean Payton realizing he asked too much of that man.
- 17:57Speaker 1: And that if anybody could do it, it's either me
- 17:59Speaker 1: or nobody. And the answer's looking real nobody-ish. That is rough.
- 18:04Speaker 2: That is rough.
- 18:05Speaker 1: And by the way, they're going to play the Cardinals.
- 18:08Speaker 1: And the Cardinals feel like if you're not good, they'll
- 18:10Speaker 1: beat you, team.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Yeah, that's fair. Obviously, after last week. I actually started
- 18:18Speaker 2: doing some game prep for that game. And I feel
- 18:19Speaker 2: like Bo Nix is going to take a lot of
- 18:21Speaker 2: performative deep shots in it because of the rhetoric this week.
- 18:25Speaker 2: So my key was like, can... Arizona pick him a
- 18:28Speaker 2: few times because I just feel like after everything being
- 18:31Speaker 2: said about Bo Nix, hold on, let me read you
- 18:33Speaker 2: a stat. I pulled this. Over the last month, do
- 18:35Speaker 2: you know how many times Bo Nix has completed passes
- 18:38Speaker 2: over 10 air yards?
- 18:40Speaker 1: No. Five.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Wow.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Five.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Over in a month.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Wow.
- 18:45Speaker 2: How is that even possible? There's no one even in
- 18:48Speaker 2: his territory. Cam Ward is the closest with 13.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Wow. And he's just trying. We're not talking about completions.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Five? No, no, completions.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Trying, though, is probably even worse. I should pull that out.
- 19:00Speaker 1: No, no, I was just making sure, like, damn, he
- 19:02Speaker 1: wouldn't even try to hit him with a heave. You
- 19:04Speaker 1: know what I'm saying? Wow. Wow.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Yeah, over the last month, he's averaging under five air
- 19:10Speaker 2: yards per attempt.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Yikes.
- 19:12Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 19:13Speaker 1: By the way, the Rams are playing the Raiders. I
- 19:15Speaker 1: can't tell what's going on there. Like, whenever I watch
- 19:18Speaker 1: them lose to these good teams but not look bad
- 19:20Speaker 1: in the process, and I don't know what that's supposed
- 19:22Speaker 1: to mean.
- 19:23Speaker 2: I think they're, like, feisty mid-season. It's kind of that tier, right? Obviously,
- 19:28Speaker 2: you like Chris, another weird one where every now and
- 19:32Speaker 2: then he'll bust out like a crazy throw downfield. And
- 19:34Speaker 2: he's actually made a couple plays outside of structure. I
- 19:37Speaker 2: thought he was pretty cooked. I assumed coming off the Achilles.
- 19:40Speaker 2: But I think what you see with the Achilles and
- 19:42Speaker 2: this is interesting for Indianapolis, too, with Daniel Jones is
- 19:44Speaker 2: like you do see guys get more mobile the further
- 19:47Speaker 2: they're rogers seeing it too the further they are removed
- 19:50Speaker 2: from it um but yeah they're just kind of average
- 19:53Speaker 2: to me yeah i.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Think that's fair and you know good for them right
- 19:57Speaker 1: if they getting getting to average for that particular outfit
- 20:00Speaker 1: is a hey good for you guys it's it's again
- 20:03Speaker 1: a team that has to play 17 road games a
- 20:05Speaker 1: year it's a it's a tough lot on life that
- 20:09Speaker 1: they have to deal with. It is. The Chargers are
- 20:13Speaker 1: in the same boat. You're just playing 17 road games
- 20:17Speaker 1: a year. It can't feel good.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Yeah. The Chargers. I kind of have just stopped talking
- 20:26Speaker 2: about the Chargers. I'm just kind of not acknowledging that
- 20:30Speaker 2: they exist right now.
- 20:31Speaker 1: I don't turn into an imperialist baron where I'm like,
- 20:36Speaker 1: so when are people going to start getting fired, huh?
- 20:38Speaker 2: Okay, but when was the last time a team started 0-6, right?
- 20:43Speaker 2: And the head coach didn't get fired, not counting first-time
- 20:47Speaker 2: head coaches.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Or at least a coordinator, somebody.
- 20:51Speaker 2: I think McDaniel's not along for this world. That's not it.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Okay, so I have not talked to you about this.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Where are you on Herbert? Because it's become a thing
- 20:59Speaker 1: now where I think it's revisionist history to say that
- 21:01Speaker 1: Herbert was never good. Yeah. But he is not good
- 21:04Speaker 1: right now.
- 21:04Speaker 2: 100%. Yeah, he looks broken, like everyone's saying. I think what, because,
- 21:10Speaker 2: you know, I'm going to wait till the end of
- 21:11Speaker 2: the season, do a little soul searching on. Well, you know,
- 21:16Speaker 2: like when I get. shit wrong, I like to figure
- 21:19Speaker 2: out what was the thing so I don't do it again.
- 21:21Speaker 2: And unfortunately, like you and I have talked a lot
- 21:23Speaker 2: about Josh Allen, the lesson there doesn't apply to literally
- 21:25Speaker 2: any human on Earth, so it's completely useless. But like
- 21:30Speaker 2: with Gino and Sam, I did some soul... So with Herbert,
- 21:36Speaker 2: I think the thing I got wrong, because you're right,
- 21:39Speaker 2: he has never been this guy. And anyone who says
- 21:41Speaker 2: he is is a liar or hasn't watched him and...
- 21:46Speaker 2: he's always, he's been in awful situations now for multiple years.
- 21:49Speaker 2: So what is different about this awful situation, right? That's
- 21:52Speaker 2: leading him to throw these horrible interceptions and such. I
- 21:55Speaker 2: think there's two things, one of which is concerning, one
- 21:57Speaker 2: of which is not. The one that's a little bit
- 21:59Speaker 2: less concerning is it just seems like it was a
- 22:01Speaker 2: really bad fit with McDaniel. And I think McDaniel's offense,
- 22:04Speaker 2: when he thought like, well, if Tua Tungabailoa thrives in this,
- 22:07Speaker 2: anyone can, well, actually, maybe he, that offense is better
- 22:11Speaker 2: for a quarterback who's point and shoot, right? Like just
- 22:14Speaker 2: fall out quick, boom. Like, it seems like increasingly it
- 22:18Speaker 2: was a bad fit with a quarterback like Justin Herbert,
- 22:20Speaker 2: where that's not really a style, the types of throws
- 22:22Speaker 2: he makes, et cetera. The one that worries me more is,
- 22:26Speaker 2: and this is something I think about a lot with quarterbacks,
- 22:28Speaker 2: the cumulative effect of being hit a million times. Like
- 22:33Speaker 2: what if at a certain point that breaks you, you
- 22:35Speaker 2: know what I'm saying? Like that's what I would worry
- 22:37Speaker 2: about with Justin Herbert. Cause you've been, you've been hit
- 22:39Speaker 2: so much. What if that just has led to this?
- 22:43Speaker 2: And that's what concerns me.
- 22:45Speaker 1: I think that people ignore the fact that quarterbacks might
- 22:48Speaker 1: be a little more similar to kickers than people realize
- 22:51Speaker 1: in the sense that one day you kind of lose it.
- 22:54Speaker 1: There are just some guys where you're just like, hey,
- 22:56Speaker 1: wait a minute. You just don't have it anymore. Tua Tagovailoa,
- 22:59Speaker 1: for example, no longer has it. Carson Wentz, it happened
- 23:04Speaker 1: years ago, but you just looked up one day and
- 23:06Speaker 1: you're like, oh, wow, wait a minute. He's not good anymore.
- 23:11Speaker 1: You see regression happen with quarterbacks in ways. This is
- 23:14Speaker 1: a bit of an extreme example, but even though the
- 23:17Speaker 1: offense was simple and everything else, if you look at
- 23:19Speaker 1: the way Robert Griffin looked that first year he was
- 23:21Speaker 1: in the NFL and then he come back two years later, whoa,
- 23:24Speaker 1: what happened? You don't seem to know how to do
- 23:26Speaker 1: this anymore. That happens. And I don't know after it
- 23:30Speaker 1: happens how easy it is to take somebody to the
- 23:32Speaker 1: place where they could get it or it winds up
- 23:34Speaker 1: being like a Geno Smith or somebody like that or
- 23:37Speaker 1: even Baker Mayfield. You just need to sit down for
- 23:39Speaker 1: a little while and not play.
- 23:40Speaker 2: But then you got your C.J. Strouds, right, where after
- 23:43Speaker 2: the playoff game, lest people forget, half of the world
- 23:45Speaker 2: was like, it's over. This guy, his brain is melted.
- 23:49Speaker 2: That was like substandard quarterback play and ever coming back
- 23:53Speaker 2: from this. He's one of the best quarterbacks in the
- 23:55Speaker 2: NFL this year.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:56Speaker 2: So he's young. That's important, right? He's only in, like,
- 23:59Speaker 2: year four. Or five?
- 24:01Speaker 1: Yeah, no, year four.
- 24:02Speaker 2: But, like, talk about a bet on yourself working out.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Jesus Christ.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:07Speaker 2: But anyways, my point is, like, that's what's so scary. Because, like,
- 24:10Speaker 2: what if you think that, like you said, and then
- 24:13Speaker 2: you're dead-ass wrong?
- 24:14Speaker 1: Like, it's just.
- 24:16Speaker 2: It's hard to know because he's another guy who took
- 24:18Speaker 2: a zillion hits. And he's another guy who at this season,
- 24:20Speaker 2: I was like, hmm, these hits have added up. And
- 24:22Speaker 2: then now he looks like, again, unbelievable. So it can
- 24:25Speaker 2: be very hard to predict.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Drake May saved himself this year because I already offered
- 24:29Speaker 1: my hot take. There won't be an extension at the
- 24:31Speaker 1: end of this year. And he's looking at me like
- 24:32Speaker 1: I'm going to be diving in gold coins.
- 24:35Speaker 2: I think the lesson is like if they're young, like
- 24:37Speaker 2: just take a beat.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. That old takes exposed. I don't know if
- 24:41Speaker 1: he watches videos, but I'm going to be in trouble.
- 24:46Speaker 1: But coming up next, we will talk about America's team,
- 24:48Speaker 1: the Detroit Lions, and the Giants deciding they don't want
- 24:51Speaker 1: to have fun anymore. The NBA's back on prize picks.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Pick a shootout in the West, a boards battle in
- 25:00Speaker 1: the East. Pick it all on prize picks available nationwide.
- 25:04Speaker 1: So what are you waiting for? What am I on
- 25:07Speaker 1: this NBA season? Just a reminder, LeBron James is old.
- 25:12Speaker 1: So there are nights where it's probably not a bad
- 25:14Speaker 1: idea to go less on his points, rebounds and assists
- 25:17Speaker 1: from time to time. But just because the association is
- 25:21Speaker 1: back doesn't mean football is slowing down. Make your NBA
- 25:24Speaker 1: picks like points and rebounds, then add your football picks
- 25:27Speaker 1: like touchdown and passing yards, and put them in the
- 25:30Speaker 1: same lineup. The lineup possibilities are almost endless because everyone

- 26:22Speaker 3: look ahead. Sunday Night Football, Seattle taking on Kansas City.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Sam Darnold's projection is set at 225.5 passing yards.
- 26:31Speaker 1: My thing, go more. The reason I say go more,
- 26:35Speaker 1: I think Kansas City's going to win. I think Kansas
- 26:37Speaker 1: City's going to be ahead early to keep it going.
- 26:39Speaker 1: I think that's then going to require Seattle to throw
- 26:42Speaker 1: the ball more, and that means Sam Darnold, on his
- 26:45Speaker 1: way to a couple of interceptions, is also going to
- 26:47Speaker 1: throw more than the allotted number of yards.
- 26:50Speaker 3: All right, thanks again. The prize picks use code BOMANI
- 26:52Speaker 3: to join in the action.
- 26:55Speaker 1: All right, we are back with Mina Kimes. We got
- 26:57Speaker 1: the Packers and the Lions. We don't know if the
- 26:59Speaker 1: Packers are good. We know the Lions are good on offense.
- 27:02Speaker 1: I feel like that sums these two teams up. Yeah,
- 27:07Speaker 1: I think....
- 27:09Speaker 2: Yes, I think that's what we know that the Lions
- 27:11Speaker 2: have a great offense and we know the Lions have
- 27:12Speaker 2: an abysmal defense. Green Bay, like you said, is the
- 27:16Speaker 2: one that's harder to pin down because there's been flashes
- 27:19Speaker 2: of this is the offense we thought it was and
- 27:21Speaker 2: then flashes of, oh, my God, these offensive linemen are
- 27:24Speaker 2: actively trying to get Jordan Love killed. And then defensively.
- 27:28Speaker 2: They look a little bit more competent than Detroit and
- 27:30Speaker 2: have actually had some really good games even without Michael Parsons.
- 27:34Speaker 2: So they are definitely the more this could go either
- 27:36Speaker 2: way type team. But I want you to answer the
- 27:38Speaker 2: question I posed earlier. As a Lions fan, do you
- 27:40Speaker 2: want them to add to this defense because the offense
- 27:43Speaker 2: is so good? If this could even be like the
- 27:46Speaker 2: 20th defense in the NFL, then this is a competitive team.
- 27:50Speaker 1: The answer is yes. I'm surprised they didn't just make
- 27:52Speaker 1: the move with Joey Porter Jr. was available. I just...
- 27:57Speaker 1: I can't explain how bad it feels just watching people
- 28:02Speaker 1: walk down the field on them, right? Where there's no
- 28:06Speaker 1: number of points that you can get. And then Kelvin
- 28:08Speaker 1: Shepard had a disaster press conference. And I'm so glad
- 28:11Speaker 1: that that week after they actually played some defense. You know, like, oh, man, yes,
- 28:17Speaker 1: get somebody in there at corner. I don't care if
- 28:19Speaker 1: you just run a sweepstakes. If you are sitting in
- 28:22Speaker 1: section 225, row K, seat four, come on down to
- 28:29Speaker 1: the field. And don't forget to sign the waiver. Anybody
- 28:33Speaker 1: could go out there and play for them. Corner safety,
- 28:36Speaker 1: what the fuck ever you got, man, we need you.
- 28:41Speaker 2: I was trying to find some coverage stats on some
- 28:44Speaker 2: of the players. I was actually looking for Jalen Johnson.
- 28:48Speaker 2: He's been really bad in Chicago. And let me tell you,
- 28:51Speaker 2: DJ Reed, I swear to God he was a good corner.
- 28:55Speaker 2: You got to keep scrolling, scrolling. I'm looking like, okay,
- 28:58Speaker 2: who's giving up the most yards, yards per target, whatever.
- 29:00Speaker 2: You got to keep scrolling, scrolling, scrolling. He ranks... either
- 29:03Speaker 2: worst or second worst of like 70 qualifying corners in
- 29:07Speaker 2: every stat possible. It is so crazy how bad this
- 29:11Speaker 2: past defense has been. I, yeah, I, to your point,
- 29:14Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm just, I'm throwing it at the, there's,
- 29:17Speaker 2: there's safeties and corners out there who at least I
- 29:22Speaker 2: think can give you competent play.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Not a lot, but they got, they got a pretty
- 29:29Speaker 1: decent level of depth in the receiving course. He'll go
- 29:32Speaker 1: run backwards. What about J-Mo?
- 29:34Speaker 2: I thought you were going to say trade them.
- 29:36Speaker 1: Yeah, no. What about J-Mo? Maybe J-Mo can run. I'm terrified.
- 29:39Speaker 1: I can't put it. at safety. He can't be the
- 29:41Speaker 1: last line of defense. He'll do something stupid. But who knows?
- 29:44Speaker 1: He may have it in him.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Tesla's got some size.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Yeah, hey, hey, hey.
- 29:49Speaker 2: I'm on Rod.
- 29:50Speaker 1: That boy tough. You know, he liked to block and
- 29:53Speaker 1: stuff like that. Something, anything. I mean, as I said,
- 29:55Speaker 1: they were down to like the number five safety. Yeah,
- 29:58Speaker 1: they had all pro level safeties.
- 30:00Speaker 2: What's the deal with Brian Branch? Is he ever coming back?
- 30:03Speaker 1: Yeah, because Shepard made it sound last week like there
- 30:05Speaker 1: was a chance he could play. Don't fucking lie to
- 30:08Speaker 1: me like this, man.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Yeah. Okay. Brian Branch's return 23 hours ago.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Okay.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Oh, Lions plan to have Brian Branch in the lineup
- 30:18Speaker 2: this week. Let's go.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Need that. Need that. Need that. Did not enjoy watching
- 30:23Speaker 1: them lose to the Packers on Thanksgiving last year while
- 30:25Speaker 1: I was in a tropical location. Got to get this going, baby.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Got to get this rolling. Oh, I almost forgot. We
- 30:32Speaker 1: mentioned the Patriots. They're playing the Bears on Thursday night.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Did you see any of Caleb against the Falcons? I did.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Because it looked quite inevitable, as the young man might say. Caleb....
- 30:43Speaker 2: He's very online.
- 30:46Speaker 1: You don't say.
- 30:47Speaker 2: I guess I kind of knew, but, like, this year,
- 30:50Speaker 2: he's been online. And with the whole, you know... Oh,
- 30:55Speaker 2: I'm not trying to get Caleb Williams online wrath, so
- 30:57Speaker 2: I'm not going to do any jokes about it.
- 30:59Speaker 1: But.
- 31:00Speaker 2: And I'm a fan of his game. But I did not...
- 31:04Speaker 2: He was retweeting everything. Like, everyone... going after the people
- 31:09Speaker 2: who were at him. And then I guess he got
- 31:11Speaker 2: mad about get up, picking the Falcons.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Oh, I didn't know that.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw that. There was like a clip of him.
- 31:19Speaker 2: First of all, I picked the Bears, so I'm not
- 31:21Speaker 2: on that program, Caleb. But I thought he played really well.
- 31:25Speaker 2: I also think he did the thing in that game
- 31:28Speaker 2: that everyone wanted him to do last year was hit
- 31:31Speaker 2: a bunch of layups, right? Because last year it was
- 31:33Speaker 2: super boom or bust. And he was pretty inaccurate on
- 31:36Speaker 2: short throws. And he has really improved. And, I mean,
- 31:38Speaker 2: leads the league in completion percentage. So, yeah, I think
- 31:41Speaker 2: he's playing really, really good ball. Patriots defense is sneaky tough.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Sneaky tough, really well coached. I don't have a good
- 31:51Speaker 2: feel for this game. The only thing I know is A.J. Brown,
- 31:54Speaker 2: I will take this one to the bank. Don't take
- 31:58Speaker 2: it to the bank. But I do think he's going
- 31:59Speaker 2: to catch, like, many passes in this game after last week.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Yeah, last week was not. Not his finest.
- 32:05Speaker 2: You know what's crazy, though? He was open the whole game.
- 32:08Speaker 3: He just couldn't catch it.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, bright side. You know what I'm saying?
- 32:14Speaker 1: Bright side. Where are you on my man Big Brain Ben?
- 32:17Speaker 1: Because I think it's worth noting that the only two
- 32:19Speaker 1: games that Caleb Williams has started and finished, this looked
- 32:21Speaker 1: like a light show.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Yeah. I think he's really good. I think he's in
- 32:26Speaker 2: the big three of play callers now with Shanahan and McVay,
- 32:30Speaker 2: which is crazy. But He's done it in two spots, right?
- 32:33Speaker 2: Detroit and... How much do you miss him?
- 32:37Speaker 1: I mean, the offense is fine. Yeah, right? I know.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Because can he come coordinate the defense? The irony of
- 32:45Speaker 1: that is, let me tell you who I don't really miss,
- 32:48Speaker 1: Aaron Glenn, and nothing has happened since then to make
- 32:50Speaker 1: me think that. However, the defense is also awful. The
- 32:54Speaker 1: value of the assistant coaches of that staff has not
- 32:57Speaker 1: been the easiest to glean.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I think... I also, I know Kelvin has taken
- 33:05Speaker 2: some heat, but it's very clearly a personnel problem.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Yes, it's obvious. They don't have the guys. And they
- 33:13Speaker 1: run a have the guy heavy scheme.
- 33:16Speaker 2: That's so, so I do think, yeah, there's, but even
- 33:19Speaker 2: when he like tries to protect them with zone, it's
- 33:21Speaker 2: still bad. It's not like it would be, oh, like, well,
- 33:24Speaker 2: they played too much backup or like, I they they
- 33:27Speaker 2: need better players in basketball.
- 33:30Speaker 1: This is something that gets talked about. I don't hear
- 33:32Speaker 1: it as much in football, but. Zone on one hand
- 33:37Speaker 1: is easier to play, but not everybody's actually good at it. Yes. Right.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Like there are some people that are much better playing
- 33:44Speaker 1: in zone than others. And the Lions have guys who
- 33:47Speaker 1: just aren't good at playing. That's it. I watched those
- 33:53Speaker 1: games where they tried to zone up, and it didn't happen.
- 33:55Speaker 1: It seemed like they did a lot more of that
- 33:57Speaker 1: man stuff against the Cardinals, and it was like, okay, cool.
- 34:00Speaker 1: They figured it out, and they had a nice bye week.
- 34:03Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Maybe they can come back
- 34:05Speaker 1: out here.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Brian Brandt.
- 34:07Speaker 1: That's right. That's right.
- 34:08Speaker 2: Well, the good news is the Packers offensive line is
- 34:11Speaker 2: still bad, and the one thing about your defense that
- 34:14Speaker 2: is decent is the defensive line.
- 34:16Speaker 1: That is true.
- 34:16Speaker 2: So there is the capacity to– actually, you know, at
- 34:19Speaker 2: least stall a few drives that way.
- 34:21Speaker 1: I was going to say, well, Kelvin needed to get
- 34:23Speaker 1: on to best defense is good offense, which is to say,
- 34:25Speaker 1: just send people, man. Dirty plays, late hits. You know
- 34:29Speaker 1: what I'm saying? Like, you got to do what you
- 34:33Speaker 1: got to do.
- 34:37Speaker 2: Do you feel like Gibbs– because I mentioned– First of all,
- 34:44Speaker 2: I just want to say, Jameer Gibbs. So I have
- 34:46Speaker 2: pick 1-1 in the ESPN War Room League, and I
- 34:49Speaker 2: didn't even flinch taking Gibbs this year, and it has
- 34:51Speaker 2: been one of the great joys of my lifetime. It's just...
- 34:58Speaker 2: He is like my second son right now, behind my
- 35:00Speaker 2: real son. Just watching... I know no one cares about
- 35:04Speaker 2: your fantasy football team, so I'll shut the fuck up
- 35:05Speaker 2: about it. But like watching points just accumulate over the
- 35:08Speaker 2: course of a few hours, just opening the app and
- 35:10Speaker 2: you've got like, it's just going 20, 30. It's just.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Oh, no, no.
- 35:14Speaker 3: Look, I.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Money in the bank.
- 35:15Speaker 1: I had Jamal Lewis and Chris Johnson doing during their
- 35:19Speaker 1: respective 2000 yard seasons. It's a great feeling.
- 35:22Speaker 2: It's a great feeling. It's a great feeling. But do
- 35:24Speaker 2: you think he belongs in the MVP conversation? I mentioned
- 35:28Speaker 2: Kenneth Walker. Yeah, I could see.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Except for my guy who had thrown no interceptions, Mr. Goff. Mr.
- 35:34Speaker 1: Goff's going to get that. He's a very talented but
- 35:39Speaker 1: limited quarterback, which is a very interesting duality to occupy,
- 35:43Speaker 1: but the two of them together. You know what I mean?
- 35:47Speaker 1: That's the part that makes me feel good, especially because
- 35:49Speaker 1: we need them to score 100 zillion points.
- 35:52Speaker 2: A lot of pressure.
- 35:53Speaker 1: It is.
- 35:53Speaker 2: A lot of pressure.
- 35:54Speaker 1: It is. I do want to get to this before
- 35:56Speaker 1: I forget about it. Over the years, Mina and I
- 35:58Speaker 1: have talked a bit about Bryce Young, mostly back when
- 36:02Speaker 1: he was terrible. And I just simply made a note.
- 36:06Speaker 1: I don't know why Mina... just latched onto this. I said,
- 36:10Speaker 1: the little homie was doing the best he can. I
- 36:12Speaker 1: was telling him to keep his chin up. Times are
- 36:17Speaker 1: bad out there. Yeah, man. He was in a tough spot.
- 36:20Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? And Mina doesn't like to
- 36:26Speaker 1: acknowledge this, but all of this was made worse by
- 36:28Speaker 1: the fact that she took a picture with him and
- 36:30Speaker 1: they looked like they could borrow each other's clothes. And
- 36:33Speaker 1: he has been overcoming that perception for so long. And
- 36:37Speaker 1: now he looks excellent.
- 36:39Speaker 2: All right. I will argue. I did him the biggest
- 36:44Speaker 2: favor of his life. First of all, I still went 1-1,
- 36:48Speaker 2: so I didn't take his drag stop.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Yes.
- 36:51Speaker 2: Second... Because of that photo, every time he plays well,
- 36:57Speaker 2: it is an underdog story. Think about it. Because that
- 37:02Speaker 2: created an initial perception. And now, okay, so your Lions game. You,
- 37:10Speaker 2: I think, texted me, little homie's about to wreck my Lions.
- 37:12Speaker 2: So I want to say, Bo, this is not, you've been...
- 37:16Speaker 2: on him this season playing well. Marcus Spears and I
- 37:19Speaker 2: watched that game in, I forgot what city we were in,
- 37:22Speaker 2: but we watched that game together. I swear to God,
- 37:26Speaker 2: the first time Bryce, when he hit like some big throw,
- 37:30Speaker 2: Marcus went, aww, and then wiped a little tear. And
- 37:37Speaker 2: he goes, I'm just so happy for him. Nobody talks
- 37:40Speaker 2: like this about any other quarterback ever. He could be
- 37:44Speaker 2: four years into playing this way, MVP contention, gigantic contract,
- 37:48Speaker 2: and people will still be like, that's so sweet. And
- 37:53Speaker 2: what a wonderful spot to be in where literally everybody's
- 37:56Speaker 2: rooting for you. People might say that's patronizing. I don't
- 38:00Speaker 2: think it's patronizing.
- 38:01Speaker 1: You know what's funny? You mentioned that nobody has a
- 38:04Speaker 1: bad thing to say about Bryce. Saban doesn't have a
- 38:06Speaker 1: bad thing to say about Bryce. Everybody.
- 38:08Speaker 2: You're welcome.
- 38:09Speaker 1: You did. And by the way, also to be fair
- 38:11Speaker 1: to Bryce and to be fair to Mina, Mina's taller
- 38:13Speaker 1: than you think. So like her in that picture with
- 38:16Speaker 1: Bryce Young, part of that was, you know, y'all and
- 38:20Speaker 1: that sizzle. And the other part was, you know, he's
- 38:23Speaker 1: not very tall.
- 38:25Speaker 2: I was wearing heels too. Yeah.
- 38:26Speaker 1: See, that's the, that's what I'm saying. Like, like there, that's,
- 38:29Speaker 1: that was, that is always the thing I had to
- 38:31Speaker 1: explain to people. It was about you both, you and Pablo.
- 38:34Speaker 1: Don't ask me why I mentioned the both of you,
- 38:36Speaker 1: but you guys.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Taught what the people thought. Thank you. Thank you for
- 38:40Speaker 2: acknowledging that, first of all. Yeah, I think he might,
- 38:44Speaker 2: like if we were to like grade all, this would
- 38:48Speaker 2: be a fun exercise, all the quarterbacks on like who's
- 38:50Speaker 2: the most liked by all of America, separate from their
- 38:53Speaker 2: own fan base. Bryce Young, number one with a bullet.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Ooh, I think he's... Right?
- 38:58Speaker 2: You got Nasty Man on the bottom, Bryce Young on
- 39:00Speaker 2: the top.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Yeah, we got Josh.
- 39:02Speaker 2: Who's up there with Bryce Young?
- 39:03Speaker 1: Josh Allen.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Who people love.
- 39:05Speaker 3: Josh Allen.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Yeah, people do like.
- 39:06Speaker 1: He's got a whole media machine behind him.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Yeah. And also, I think he genuinely seems like a
- 39:15Speaker 2: decent hang in that, I think. You're not wrong about
- 39:18Speaker 2: the media and all that.
- 39:19Speaker 1: No, no, but he don't. That's the thing. It's not
- 39:21Speaker 1: his fault. Right?
- 39:23Speaker 2: And he, like... He got a celebrity wife who also
- 39:27Speaker 2: people like because she's not like super overexposed. right you
- 39:31Speaker 2: know like.
- 39:33Speaker 1: And he hasn't won that many games a consequence so
- 39:36Speaker 1: there aren't that many people with like real anger toward
- 39:38Speaker 1: him like Mahomes like that was the thing about Brady
- 39:41Speaker 1: Brady gave it to everybody yeah everybody had reason to
- 39:45Speaker 1: dislike at that you know like yo he's giving it
- 39:48Speaker 1: to us all.
- 39:49Speaker 2: Yeah Yes, it's funny because Brady, yes, fans, I think
- 39:55Speaker 2: that was also New England.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Yes.
- 39:56Speaker 2: Right, because Josh, similar to Bright, well, Carolina's had some success,
- 40:00Speaker 2: but it's a small franchise. Who's out there hating the Panthers?
- 40:04Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 40:05Speaker 2: That'd be weird.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Right.
- 40:07Speaker 2: So the Bills are similar. I think people are like, ah,
- 40:10Speaker 2: the Bills. They're like the Bryce Young franchises.
- 40:13Speaker 1: It is amazing, though, that the Patriots did all that
- 40:16Speaker 1: winning and never became a national brand. They never became like, oh,
- 40:21Speaker 1: the Patriots are in town. There's going to be a
- 40:23Speaker 1: bunch of Patriots fans in the building. That's how unlikable
- 40:27Speaker 1: that entire operation was.
- 40:29Speaker 2: You know how you know is when you go to
- 40:31Speaker 2: like Mexico or you see people walking around in Patriots jerseys.
- 40:35Speaker 1: No, no. And when you see the Patriots come to
- 40:37Speaker 1: town wearing a Patriots jersey, it's all Welkers and Edelmans
- 40:40Speaker 1: and Bradys and Gronks. It's all. Yeah. It's all. Oh,
- 40:46Speaker 1: my God. Fucking Patriots. Yeah. By the way, Bill Belichick,
- 40:50Speaker 1: they beat Duke, and Bill Belichick rang that bell. I
- 40:52Speaker 1: don't know if you saw. There's a bell that goes
- 40:54Speaker 1: from side to side in the Carolina-Duke football robbery, and
- 40:58Speaker 1: he looked so happy ringing that bell. Like it's turning
- 41:02Speaker 1: into a Disney sports movie where Krusty Coach, who couldn't
- 41:07Speaker 1: get a job anywhere else, now has to do this
- 41:09Speaker 1: and now is starting to love the kids.
- 41:13Speaker 2: Are the vibes that good?
- 41:14Speaker 1: I mean, look, I just saw him ring that bell
- 41:18Speaker 1: and was like, like he looked like he hadn't laughed
- 41:22Speaker 1: in a while. Like I know that girl makes him smile,
- 41:24Speaker 1: but I don't know if she makes him laugh. And
- 41:26Speaker 1: he just looked, he looked thrilled. He looked thrilled.
- 41:30Speaker 2: Good for him? I don't know. I can't get there
- 41:32Speaker 2: with him. Yeah, it is fun.
- 41:36Speaker 1: Right. Yeah.
- 41:37Speaker 2: The Patriot, that is funny. And they're good again. Obviously,
- 41:40Speaker 2: they made the Super Bowl last year. That was the thing, too.
- 41:42Speaker 2: In San Francisco, I remember the Super Bowl really weren't
- 41:44Speaker 2: a lot of Pats fans. I felt like walking around,
- 41:46Speaker 2: not in terms of actual Pats fans, but ambient Pats fans.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Yeah, no, man. Why would anybody do that? Yeah, what's
- 41:52Speaker 1: to gain? They should be the team of America. They
- 41:55Speaker 1: wore red, white, and blue on the Super Bowl after 9-11.
- 41:58Speaker 1: There still ain't nobody trying to do that.
- 42:01Speaker 2: I think the scandals also.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Turn people on.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Fair.
- 42:05Speaker 1: That's back when we still had a little bit of
- 42:07Speaker 1: a conscience. I don't know if that would happen at
- 42:10Speaker 1: this point. Last thing I ask you before we get
- 42:14Speaker 1: out of here. It's not a terrible surprise that. either
- 42:20Speaker 1: a Mara or a Tish, though I guess the Tish
- 42:22Speaker 1: isn't allowed to make decisions anymore, but oh, let's not
- 42:25Speaker 1: talk about that. We just completely, we don't talk about
- 42:28Speaker 1: that at all. I was just wondering how long it
- 42:31Speaker 1: was going to go before they were like, man, if
- 42:33Speaker 1: you don't get Jameis out of my face and put
- 42:34Speaker 1: somebody else in here, and now J.J. McCarthy, who I
- 42:37Speaker 1: don't think was that good in his, when he came
- 42:40Speaker 1: into that game. I watched the tape last night.
- 42:42Speaker 2: He was throwing jump balls. Shout out to Malik Neighbors.
- 42:45Speaker 2: Isaiah Likely has been awesome for them, and some guy
- 42:48Speaker 2: named Charlie Jones. they were going up and getting it
- 42:51Speaker 2: like jj was just chucking that thing and i mean
- 42:55Speaker 2: okay so here's what's tricky about that situation so i
- 43:00Speaker 2: don't think jj mccarthy's box score reflects what how he
- 43:03Speaker 2: played and i also just i'm you know i think
- 43:05Speaker 2: it's based on what we saw in minnesota but normally
- 43:10Speaker 2: the case is like well this division is very winnable
- 43:12Speaker 2: and we got the veteran quarterback who takes care of
- 43:15Speaker 2: the football we'll stick with him.
- 43:20Speaker 4: You're not doing those veteran quarterback that you know what
- 43:25Speaker 4: i mean so like the normal case you would have
- 43:28Speaker 4: for not going to the young quarterback doesn't really apply
- 43:30Speaker 4: in this situation correct.
- 43:32Speaker 1: Though my thought is hey man here's what i know
- 43:35Speaker 1: about james winston whether they should or shouldn't people really
- 43:39Speaker 1: like him let me tell you what i know about
- 43:43Speaker 1: jj mccarthy People do not like him, or at least
- 43:47Speaker 1: the last people that were his people. They traded him
- 43:50Speaker 1: for a fifth-round pick, and he's like 24 years old.
- 43:52Speaker 1: That's great. Sam Darnold, after it was established that he
- 43:56Speaker 1: was cheeks, they got three or four for him.
- 43:59Speaker 2: Okay, can I tell you a little internet story? I
- 44:04Speaker 2: know it's not cool to talk about things that happen
- 44:07Speaker 2: on the internet and fights you get into. somebody tweeted
- 44:10Speaker 2: something i think it was uh clarence who covers the
- 44:12Speaker 2: cowboys yeah maybe um about how like it's very rare
- 44:16Speaker 2: that you have a black quarterback in the nfl who's
- 44:19Speaker 2: not mobile i don't know who he was talking about
- 44:21Speaker 2: yeah maybe panics he's.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Talking about yeah it was yeah because like byron left
- 44:25Speaker 1: which is basically.
- 44:25Speaker 2: The one yeah he was like this is crazy he
- 44:28Speaker 2: was like you never see this anymore and i just
- 44:30Speaker 2: wrote back i don't know i was just like on
- 44:31Speaker 2: a plane jamis winston's still starting in this league right
- 44:35Speaker 2: let me tell you hundreds of people were like, how
- 44:40Speaker 2: dare you call Jameis Winston immobile or say he doesn't
- 44:43Speaker 2: have running ability. I was like, am I like drunk?
- 44:47Speaker 2: Like what is, so I, okay. So let me finish this.
- 44:50Speaker 2: So I go back and forth with some guy who's like,
- 44:53Speaker 2: you said he doesn't have running. I'm like, he doesn't.
- 44:55Speaker 2: What do your eyes say? Like it's, it's just, I
- 45:00Speaker 2: feel like crazy, right, but facts don't exist. So I'm
- 45:03Speaker 2: going back and forth, and then I click on the
- 45:05Speaker 2: guy's profile, because I'm like, this is so insane. And
- 45:09Speaker 2: it says, from Bessemer, Alabama. And I realized I was
- 45:14Speaker 2: fighting with Jameis' cousin. Oh, wow. Because he posted somewhere else,
- 45:19Speaker 2: this is my cousin. I was like, oh, my God, Mina.
- 45:22Speaker 2: I never assigned from God.
- 45:23Speaker 1: To log off. Well, my favorite thing of that is
- 45:26Speaker 1: the family is not good. I can only imagine what
- 45:29Speaker 1: else he's lying to himself about. If he can't tell
- 45:31Speaker 1: this simple, basic truth. Yes.
- 45:34Speaker 3: Right?
- 45:34Speaker 1: Like, oh, my God. That's funny.
- 45:36Speaker 2: You should be glad that that's the thing. We're arguing
- 45:39Speaker 2: about Jameis Winston on the internet in the Lord's year 2026.
- 45:41Speaker 3: Yes.
- 45:41Speaker 1: By the way, Darnold was traded for a six in
- 45:44Speaker 1: that year and then a two and a four the
- 45:46Speaker 1: following year. Still more than they got for J.J. McCarthy.
- 45:49Speaker 1: I'm telling you, remember, the Geno Smith start that one
- 45:51Speaker 1: game and then they fired the coach. Lady and I
- 45:53Speaker 1: managed to keep the job for two more years. Somebody,
- 45:57Speaker 1: Jameis doing too crazy. We all think the press conferences
- 45:59Speaker 1: are funny. John, it's John Mara, right? That's the one
- 46:03Speaker 1: that's in charge now. Whichever Mara's up there watching press conferences,
- 46:06Speaker 1: hating every minute of that shit. Like, no, no, no.
- 46:09Speaker 1: Let's throw this other guy out here. I think, I mean,
- 46:13Speaker 1: maybe JJ learned how to get along with people. He's
- 46:17Speaker 1: got to, I'm telling you, man, it's an important thing.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Jameis got that part figured out.
- 46:22Speaker 2: I've heard some stories about Minnesota that I can't, say
- 46:26Speaker 2: on here, but I'll tell you offline.
- 46:28Speaker 1: Oh, I am quite intrigued. I haven't talked to you
- 46:32Speaker 1: about Minnesota in quite a while. It feels like O'Connell
- 46:36Speaker 1: is trying to make Kyler Murray into the system instead
- 46:39Speaker 1: of doing Kyle. You went and got the little talented
- 46:44Speaker 1: guy that requires some kind of special care. You did that.
- 46:48Speaker 2: Notice you say little talented guy instead of little homie
- 46:51Speaker 2: doing his best.
- 46:51Speaker 1: Yes, because.
- 46:52Speaker 2: In an alternate timeline, what if Kyler Murray had taken
- 46:54Speaker 2: a picture with me before the draft? Maybe people would
- 46:57Speaker 2: like him now.
- 46:58Speaker 1: That is true. And if Kyler Murray was playing like
- 47:00Speaker 1: Bryce Young was at that time... He'd have been the
- 47:03Speaker 1: little homie, except the difference is people don't like Kyler
- 47:05Speaker 1: Murray as much as they like Bryce Young, so I
- 47:07Speaker 1: don't think it would have been nearly as warm. You
- 47:11Speaker 1: think you could have made us come around on Kyler Murray?
- 47:13Speaker 2: I could have made him more of an underdog.
- 47:16Speaker 1: Yeah, because Bryce Young is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar standing next to
- 47:19Speaker 1: Kyler Murray.
- 47:21Speaker 2: You don't think the difference, though, is Kyler's thick, right?
- 47:24Speaker 1: He is.
- 47:24Speaker 2: So, like, it's a little bit different in terms of, like, his–
- 47:27Speaker 2: with Bryce, you do worry sometimes about durability. So, I
- 47:31Speaker 2: will say Kyler in the last game played pretty well.
- 47:33Speaker 2: You know, he looked kind of rough at the start. But, like,
- 47:37Speaker 2: they are the true– it's funny because people said that
- 47:38Speaker 2: with the Texans and they were dead wrong, obviously, coming
- 47:40Speaker 2: into the season. That is the true, hey, if this
- 47:43Speaker 2: offense can just put up 20– Because, oh, my God,
- 47:47Speaker 2: the job that that defense and Brian Flores are doing
- 47:50Speaker 2: right now. Brian Flores, who, by the way, the lawsuit
- 47:52Speaker 2: is like progressing, like news is coming. It is so
- 47:55Speaker 2: crazy to get like news alerts about that lawsuit at
- 47:58Speaker 2: the same time that the Vikings defense is just like
- 48:00Speaker 2: he could not have asked for a better season for
- 48:03Speaker 2: this to all happen at the same time.
- 48:06Speaker 1: He's mad scientist defense guy. We don't get a lot
- 48:09Speaker 1: of those. They're named defensive coordinators. Like Fangio, I think,
- 48:13Speaker 1: is the one that jumps out there. But if you
- 48:15Speaker 1: ask most people, they're like, oh, Fangio's defenses are good,
- 48:17Speaker 1: but I don't know if the, like, median football fan
- 48:20Speaker 1: could answer to you what's good about it, right? The
- 48:22Speaker 1: football nerds will tell you, too high safeties, but we
- 48:24Speaker 1: still figure out how to stop the run, da-da-da, all
- 48:26Speaker 1: this stuff. Flores got a defense that everybody could understand.
- 48:30Speaker 1: They coming. They bringing dudes. It's like what you would
- 48:33Speaker 1: do if you were running a defense, bringing heat.
- 48:37Speaker 2: That's such a good point yeah because you don't have
- 48:39Speaker 2: to really know ball you turn it on and you're
- 48:40Speaker 2: like who's coming who's going it's early downs but this
- 48:45Speaker 2: makes any sense and you see the impact that it
- 48:47Speaker 2: has it's so visceral and by the way a lot
- 48:49Speaker 2: of teams he got a little coaching tree developing around
- 48:52Speaker 2: the league and you see more of the defensive coordinators
- 48:54Speaker 2: around the league doing similar stuff too this year but
- 48:57Speaker 2: i mean it is just he has had a man
- 49:00Speaker 2: he i voted for him for uh assistant assistant coach
- 49:03Speaker 2: of the year i know it's a word that like
- 49:04Speaker 2: i think josh mcdaniel's Juan, who I did not have,
- 49:08Speaker 2: I think, in my top three even last year. But
- 49:11Speaker 2: this year, I feel like there's no one doing it
- 49:14Speaker 2: like him.
- 49:16Speaker 1: Mina Kams, check her out on the Mina Kams show
- 49:18Speaker 1: featuring Lenny, an adorable pooch. Available on all five podcasts.
- 49:24Speaker 1: They're giving away for free. I like all the smaller
- 49:26Speaker 1: things in your house, right? I got to get back there.
- 49:30Speaker 1: I haven't seen that little homie. Now that he can
- 49:33Speaker 1: do things.
- 49:33Speaker 2: He's not so little.
- 49:34Speaker 1: I was about to say, I see the pictures.
- 49:36Speaker 2: That's an enormous kid.
- 49:37Speaker 1: That's a sturdy guy. I'm trying to figure out genetically
- 49:39Speaker 1: how that happened.
- 49:41Speaker 2: We keep thinking it's going to stop the growing. It
- 49:45Speaker 2: just keeps happening. I guess it's how it works.
- 49:48Speaker 1: It'll be a matter of time before you start clearing
- 49:50Speaker 1: y'all out to make space.
- 49:52Speaker 2: He is knocking me over already.
- 49:54Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 49:55Speaker 2: He might take out Bryce Young in an Oklahoma drill.
- 49:58Speaker 1: I'll watch. I'm down. Check it out. But I appreciate you.
- 50:03Speaker 2: To be clear, we're talking about my toddler.
- 50:05Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes. Very important detail.
- 50:07Speaker 2: Because anyone thought that was my husband or something.
- 50:09Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. You know what? Once you said that, good call. Toddler, toddler, toddler.
