- Mindy: Hi, it's Mindy with another episode of Mindy's Minute Podcast. And I have to start first With this wonderful woman who approached me at a grocery store and she said to me, I miss you on the radio. I miss it too. I really do. But then I told her, hey, there's a podcast that I have on Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook. And everything that was on the morning show now is in one podcast in less than 20 minutes. So I invited her to join me. And you are here too. So thank you so much. I really appreciate that. So we're gonna start with the top three things you need to know, and we're gonna talk about 528, maybe becoming a six-lane road. No Please know. Imagine the construction on that. The morning mindbender, Mindy's Minute with Brad Pitt coming back to World War Z two. Can't wait. I love the first one. We've watched it like so many times, my husband and I. And if you see a toupee, yes, I said a toupee, on the ground, in a tree, anywhere in Brevard County, don't touch it. Don't touch it at all. We'll explain why coming up. Please follow me on Instagram @mindyonair and then on Facebook @mindylevy and subscribe to my YouTube channel @ Mindy's. These Minute Podcast when you get a chance. Today is National Heroes Day. Today is National Fluffernutter Day. National Salmon Day. I love smoked salmon on a cracker. Mmm. So delicious. Let's get to the top three things you need to know. Triple A says head and neck injuries are among the most common injuries linked to e-bike crashes, and medical experts report a sharp increase in serious injuries nationwide. Are you seeing more e-bikes in Brevard County? I have. You know, being at a stoplight, if you're not looking left and right, someone could zip right by you. That's happened to me quite a few times. I wonder if you guys are having the same experience. With more cruise ships at our Port and the new aquarium coming soon, there's gonna be more traffic on 528. So local and state officials are trying to find a solution. FDOT data puts the estimated cost of a six-lane expansion for 528 at nearly 400 million dollars for the stretch between Industry Road in Cocoa and State Road 3 on Merritt Island. That's the route I go when I go to work, is Industry Road. But just imagine the traffic and the construction if they do try to expand it. And not even talk about how the bridge is going to be, because it's hard enough to get to US 1 off of Cocoa into 528 eastbound. That little intersection just bottlenecks the entire time. Miami is officially the number one best foodie city in America this year, according to a new Wallet Hub study. Orlando and Tampa were Listed in the top 10. I want you to give us Space Coast shout-outs to your favorite foodie place. Whether it's a food truck, a restaurant, we have great restaurants in downtown Melbourne, Cocoa Village, in Titusville, all over Beachside. I mean, we have great restaurants here. So if you want to give a shout-out to your local restaurant, please do so in the comments, and then we'll give them a shout-out on the next podcast. And that's the top three things you need to know. Coming up, my mom. Got a new laptop. Why does this always happen to me? I say me, there's five of us in the family. Two of them live out of state. The other two live, one lives down the street, and the other one lives in Daytona. But I'm always the one that has to fix her tech stuff. I think everybody goes into hiding when she's like, Can you fix my laptop? Mm-hmm. Let's get to that story. So not only did she get a new phone, she kept saying that her laptop was getting hack. Hack. She meant hacked. So I'm like looking at her laptop. There's nothing wrong with your laptop, Mom. I see, look, look. And she keeps talking about metaverse. What is it? The metaverse and Google and Gmail. Remember she's almost she's 84. So trying to teach her this tech stuff. So I get the laptop and I'm putting her favorites in. I'm putting in where she can get her email and I keep telling her it's everything's at the bottom. It's all you know you know we pinned it all. So all you have to do is click it. And then she keeps going into different places, but she loves Doom Scrolling on Facebook. So I'm wondering if she's getting like spam and pop-ups because of that. So my brother brought her a new to laptop and it takes and it's me that has to set up the laptop. Not only the phone, but the laptop. Because she doesn't want to get hocked. That's her word for hacked. I'm like, Mom, there's billions of people in the world. Why are you the only one that always gets hocked? Hi, Si Si you gotta come. So yeah, that's this weekend. I've been putting it off for a couple weeks. It's a I'm a bad daughter. I know it. I've been putting it off for so long. And she's like, please come fix my laptop. Even though we already fixed it. She just forgets that we pinned it to the bottom. So anyway, yeah, that's my that's gonna be my weekend. I hope you have a better weekend. New laptops, new phones, the whole nine yards. Let's get to the morning mind bender. That's what's coming up next. Last week's question: What coffee shops did the gang hang out in in the hit show Friends? We had a lot of people that popped up in the comments. Central Perk. That was the answer. So bragging rights for Brevard County for answering it correctly in the comments. Go to Charlie, Bridget, Yasmin, and Soel. Thank you so much. For answering our Morning Mind Bender last week. The Morning Mind Bender question this week. What singer went from her huge hit, 1984 album called Private Dancer, to starring as the villain in the 1985 film Mad Max Beyond the Thunderdome? Let's see if I can do an impression. Two Man enter, one man leave. That was really bad, too, right? That's the quote. That's like the famous quote that she said. If you know the answer to this morning mind bender, put it in the comments. Even if somebody else answered it, put it in the comments anyway, and then that way you'll get the shout-out for next week's morning mind bender. Apologize to the person who has that answer. Post your answer on Instagram @mindyonair or on Facebook @mindylevy. And that is the Morning Mind Bender. So coming up, Mindy's Minute. All the entertainment news you'll need for the entire week. Now here's what I want to talk about. Brad Pitt is set to return to World War Z. More than a decade after the original hit theaters, my husband and I love this movie. We've watched it like 10 times. Such a good movie. The original World War Z brought in more than 540 million bucks worldwide. I am a huge fan of this movie, so I don't know. They're gonna be hopefully e everyone will be back into it, you know, all the main characters, and we're gonna see where this is gonna take us. If you've never seen it, it's sort of like a zombie takeover of the world. But really good. Great movie. I really like it. Sia is selling half of her music collection to Pop House for a hundred and eighty million bucks. The sale comes after Sia originally filed for divorce in March of last year. Are you a fan of Gilmore girls? My husband and I are. I have to throw my husband in there because we never saw it on regular television. And then it popped up on one of the streaming service without commercials, and we binge watched the whole thing over the summer. Rory, Lorelai, just the whole family. Loved it. Of course, and then they did the reunion, then they did the movie on streaming. We're like big fans. So if you're a big fan like we are, you can celebrate the holidays in Stars Hollow as Warner Brothers studio tour Hollywood. wood announces the ultimate Gilmore Girls fan event. Now, this is going to be during the holidays. It'll run from December 12th through January 3rd. The experience will recreate Luke's apartment, the school's graduation courtyard, and a tour through the Gilmore estate, which that house is beautiful. Scott Patterson, who played Luke, will also make special appearances. And I won't be surprised if somebody else keeps coming up. Most some of the characters out there. But yeah, my husband and I are big fans. And the way they talk, remember, they always talk the fast They're like invented this new talk. The two the two girls on the show. It's just a great show. It's something that we love. But if you're a fan, check it out online. And that's it for Mindy's Minute. Coming up next, the topic of the day. Are you superstitious? Be honest. I mean, we have a lot of haunted places here on the Space Coast, from cemeteries, restaurants, railroad tracks, old restaurants. So we want to know from you, since it is spooky season. Are you superstitious? Like what do you do? No, when the salt spills, do you throw it over your left shoulder? Yes. Do you knock on wood? Yes. Do you walk under ladders? No. Do you open umbrellas in inside? No. One of my old bosses tried to make me do that one day and I threw the I threw the umbrella outside. I was like, no, you're not getting me to do that. Absolutely not. To avoid walking on cracks. a lot of places don't even have the number 13, like 13th floor, 13th apartment, 13th hotel room. You know, there's certain things that people don't even do because they avoid it. So here are the top superstitions knocking on wood to ward off bad luck, wishing on a star. That was interesting. That was on the list. This one is true. Breaking a mirror brings seven years of bad luck. My mom always puts water on it if a mirror breaks. That's her superstition. And bad news comes in three. Da isn't that true? That's always true. So we want to know from you. Are you superstitious? And if it's a yes, what do you do? Do you do the salt thing? Do you knock on wood? do you not walk under ladders? Just just give us a list of things. Post it in the comments. I'm curious on how many people are superstitious here on the Space Coast. What's next? If it looks like a toupee. Don't touch it. Especially here in Brevard County. This is just like the weirdest trending thing that's happening. So what's trending? We're gonna talk about last week because I want to give a shout out. Last week the question was: would you put shaving cream on your mattress? It was a TikTok thing to clean your mattress. And Jean Marie and many others said, Absolutely not. So thank you for answering that. What's trending now here in Florida? We're being told not to touch caterpillars that look like toupees. Southern flannel moth caterpillars are common and they look cute and harmless. I saw the picture. Well, here's a picture right here. Furry and fuzzy, but they've got venom full of it. Underneath their fluffy toupee are poisonous spines that are packed with a nasty sting. They exist from New Jersey to Florida and west to Arkansas and Texas, but are most common here in Florida. They love shades of tree and are mostly found in yards, parks, and school grounds. Wow. Wildlife experts say do not touch them at all. I've never seen one here in Brevard Have you? When I look at the picture it reminds me of that thing from Star Trek. Remember what are they called? Tribbles? Is that what's it called? Remember the that episode? I think it's Tribbles right? Yeah. So if you've seen one, put it in the comments. I'm curious. So if you see that toupee, don't touch it or what it looks like. And that's what's trending here in Brevard County. Coming up next, our local feel-good story of the day, where FPL is giving back to our local schools. Let's get to our feel-good story of the day. A big thank you to Brevard Schools Foundation just received a $10,000 Florida Power and Light Company empowering STEM Educators Grant. And this is such a great experience for the kids. The STEM project is expected to help about 2,000 students across Brevard Public Schools. For example, on September 29th, Coquina Elementary School in Titusville just showed off a STEM classroom that has been completely Upgraded thanks to FPL. The elementary school was one of 20 schools to win a makeover. The classroom features state-of-the-art technology like 3D printers, iPads, VR headsets, and an outdoor classroom. So thank you, FPL, for giving back to our schools. STEM program is amazing here in Brevard. And that is our local feel good story of the day. Coming up, our hack of the day. Have you bought your pumpkins yet? Have you? All right, so tips on pumpkin carving to make it last longer. I got this from the Pioneer Woman website, which I love that website. Especially the recipe is really good. So okay, start with the bottom. I didn't even know this. Instead of carving the pumpkin from the top, make a hole at the bottom of the pumpkin. This will keep the moisture inside the pumpkin longer, and the insides will come out easier instead of trying to grab it out, it comes out from the bottom. Which makes sense, right? use a red dry eraser marker to sketch out your design. I always use like a Sharpie, a black Sharpie. They said no, just use the red, because then you can wipe it off and then not have to cut around it in case you make a mistake. Makes sense. And I've always heard this: if you have a pumpkin, after you carve it out, take the inside out, cover the cut surfaces with Vaseline. That'll make your pumpkin last longer and also keep the critters away if you're putting it out front. Never tried this one. On one of the tips, it says sprinkle the pumpkin with cinnamon and the inside, and that'll give you that pumpkin smell when you put the candle in it. Hmm. Little known tips for ya. song of the day. Today is one of my favorite artists' birthday, Bruno Mars. His birthday is today. So today's song is Uptown Funk. Crank it up in the car, crank it up at work, make everybody dance at work. Or at home and dance because it's such a great song, Uptown Funk. So that is the song of the day. I was fortunate enough to see Bruno Mars in concerts at the Kia Center when he was here, and not one person sat down. And it was such a great show. The singing, the dancing, the entire band, and it literally, you just felt good when you watched that show. he comes into town again. I can encourage you to grab those tickets. Okay, so is that wrapping up the show? That was fast. So let's give out some shout-outs for watching and listening to the podcast. A big thank you to Jeanne. Appreciate you checking us out.
