- 1:35Let's get right into it. We are here to talk about two
- 1:38games in particular. This could be kind of a fast
- 1:41flowing episode because we have games to play in order for us to
- 1:45release full coherent reviews on these games, which are massive
- 1:49in scale. In my opinion.
- 1:50There's a lot to talk about with both these games.
- 1:54We got to make this quick. So the first game we're going to
- 1:56talk about is this Battlefield 6.
- 1:59And let let me start and preface this.
- 2:02Our job gave us a half more than 1/2 day.
- 2:06I would say that was more than 1/2 day.
- 2:09Yeah. To work from home, cut early and
- 2:13everybody hop on and play Battlefield 6.
- 2:17Our job did that. So like this game is what is my.
- 2:25My wife's yeah, interrupting the flow of the show.
- 2:28I'm being able that we're good, but Battlefield 6 is a game a
- 2:32lot of people have been waiting for, including Evan and myself
- 2:35and everybody at our job. So that's just what I'm saying
- 2:38is the scale of this game is massive and wow, it hit without
- 2:43it without skipping a beat. Evan, let's go.
- 2:45Let's start with you. How how have you been enjoying
- 2:49Battlefield 6 so far? Has it met expectations?
- 2:53And is there anything in the game that currently you're
- 2:55sitting here pondering like this could be better?
- 3:00First things first is, yeah, it hits all the marks other than
- 3:05like, like the campaign is really just a good introduction
- 3:07to get you used to how the games are, and I think that's fine.
- 3:11I was more fond of Battlefield 3 and 4's campaigns.
- 3:13I felt they were a bit higher quality, and this one does not,
- 3:16unfortunately, reach those heights.
- 3:16But that's besides the point. We're not really here for that
- 3:19anyway. So to talk about the multiplayer
- 3:22mostly, yeah, Wow, they nailed it.
- 3:28It's simultaneously like to disagree with a certain gaming
- 3:32publication. I think it does improve upon its
- 3:36previous games. I think IGN, as usual, IGN,
- 3:43whereas it's not a reinvention of the franchise.
- 3:45And it's like, yeah, and that's kind of the whole point is that
- 3:492042 was the reinvention of the franchise.
- 3:51And look at how people felt about it, myself included.
- 3:56Did it get there and get to a, a decent point?
- 3:58Sure. But like it, I mean, I'll just
- 4:03say this. I've been there for the launch
- 4:04of Battlefield 3-4, Hardline 15 and 2042.
- 4:11Not a single one of them has been as well optimized as this
- 4:17Battlefield where it's like you can just load it up and you can,
- 4:20you can play. I mean, we've had we have people
- 4:22in the discord who have very old rigs who are able to play that
- 4:25game. We were able to play that game
- 4:27and say, oh, it runs actually pretty decent.
- 4:29Like it's, it's very good. I've particularly it's it's
- 4:32pretty fun for me. I'm playing it with just normal
- 4:36for PC players anti aliasing. So like it's cool to not have to
- 4:41use DLSS or DLA or something like that.
- 4:43You can just use the the base thing that they put in the game
- 4:46and it runs great. So like that's more of APC
- 4:49centric thing. But in terms of the other stuff,
- 4:55there's not something in particular where I go like this
- 4:58could be better. I think it's all an
- 5:01understanding how this battlefield is because there's,
- 5:05I think, you know, this is a new iteration of it.
- 5:10It's back to the old days and in a lot of different avenues, you
- 5:15know, no tactical Sprint, No, you know, but then they also
- 5:20have modern appointments in the movement and the gunsmith
- 5:23ability, which I think is very fun.
- 5:25I actually am very fond of the gunsmith ability and this, it
- 5:28reminds me very much of Modern Warfare 2019, which I guess is
- 5:31maybe my criticism of this is that even the end game screens
- 5:35are like the blue or the red the way that the Modern Warfare 2019
- 5:40end game screens were at, right? It's just the battlefield theme,
- 5:44but it almost looks like it's a direct copy in some instances.
- 5:48So that's kind of where my criticism might lie.
- 5:52But I'm also sitting here going, if I were, if I recall, back to
- 5:56how I felt about Modern Warfare 2019, I was like, oh shit, this
- 5:59is it. They got it right quickly.
- 6:02Fucked. It like you, yeah.
- 6:03It unfortunately became the victim of, I would say war zones
- 6:10ever marching, you know, presence of dominating the
- 6:16battle Royale scene, you know, and I think that kind of killed
- 6:19it. And then it turned into, you
- 6:21know, I mean, at the end of the day, you guys, you know, anybody
- 6:24who wants these games to like sort of thrive, especially the
- 6:26good ones like Modern Warfare 2019, Battlefield 6.
- 6:30You can't do a yearly model like because you, you want to play
- 6:36these games for a longer period of time.
- 6:40And, and that's not to say, I mean, Battlefield 3 and 4 came
- 6:43out pretty quickly after one another, but there was just this
- 6:47sort of sense of you didn't, you didn't have to buy the next one
- 6:52and continue on. You could stay playing
- 6:53Battlefield 3 for much longer and you would get, you know, you
- 6:58could spend your time, you know, unlocking the things you wanted
- 7:00to unlock and progress the way you wanted to progress.
- 7:03The same with four. You know, you didn't have to go
- 7:05to hardline and start doing that right away.
- 7:08And I feel like with the current state of the AAA shooter market,
- 7:12like Call of Duty, that's where you had to go.
- 7:15OK, 2019 came out. Year or two goes by because of
- 7:19COVID, you know, so it's a little different.
- 7:24Everybody flocks to Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3,
- 7:27Modern Warfare 3 comes out a year later.
- 7:29Everybody flocks to Modern Warfare 3, Black Ops, Cold War,
- 7:33sorry, Black Ops 6 comes out, you know, boom, everybody flocks
- 7:37to that. It's it's right away, you know,
- 7:39and then everybody stays playing war zone, which again, you know,
- 7:42to those people, to anybody who likes playing that, more power
- 7:45to you. I don't care.
- 7:46It's just not my type of it's not not my favorite battle
- 7:50Royale. Don't really like, it's hard for
- 7:52me to like battle Royals in general now, but it's really not
- 7:54my favorite. So that's my one criticism is
- 7:58that maybe it feels a little too much like Modern Warfare 2019
- 8:00specifically and only a certain, you know, art style or things
- 8:07like that. Like I guess, you know, that's
- 8:08kind of a way to put it to Battlefield 3 had that blue hue,
- 8:12right? Everything had this sort of
- 8:14blue, like, cold color grating to it, whereas this feels very
- 8:21plain. Yeah.
- 8:22This feels very plain and very safe almost.
- 8:25Yeah. Yeah.
- 8:26It feels like there's not a whole lot of like art style to
- 8:31it in some respects, which I think they should, you know,
- 8:35lean into a bit more because that's one of those iconic
- 8:38things. You know, I mean, even better
- 8:39before is pretty iconic with its imagery because you have that
- 8:42Gray background with the orange red like strikes, right, You
- 8:46know, of like the the bullets flying out of the the chamber or
- 8:49something like that. And those are like the little
- 8:51red pieces on the art. And that looks really cool.
- 8:54And I like the game also looked that way.
- 8:56It felt that way. So I think that it feels a
- 9:00little safe in some regards, but in terms of the things that it
- 9:03hits, man, every fucking moment of this game feels like a movie.
- 9:08You are being attacked by every in every direction.
- 9:15You have the helicopters, jets, tanks, I of BS, you know, normal
- 9:23transport vehicles, transport choppers all around.
- 9:26It feels just like battlefield in that regard.
- 9:28It brings me back to playing it as a kid where you are just it's
- 9:33chaos. It is like this, this perfect
- 9:36level of chaos, but you're able to look through it all is how it
- 9:42feels like there's a path here. You know, you can, you know,
- 9:45that's how those this game feels to me is that I feel like, and
- 9:48it might be just because I've been very good at it at the
- 9:51start when it when everything is the way it is, where it just
- 9:55feels like you're in the middle of this epic battle.
- 9:59And you know, you can find your way into taking down the tanks
- 10:04and choppers in the same life and killing, you know, 1015
- 10:07enemy before you finally get down.
- 10:08And then like that then, you know, you feel pretty good at
- 10:11the end of A at the end of a life.
- 10:12And I don't know, it's just been my personal experience, but as a
- 10:16long time Battlefield fan, yes, it's all of those classic Marks
- 10:19and then some and you know, leaves like a pretty good mark.
- 10:25You know, I feel good after playing it.
- 10:26I'm excited to come home from work and play it.
- 10:28Like that's a very big thing for me.
- 10:31It's been quite a while that an FPS, especially like a modern
- 10:38military shooter, competitive multiplayer online has really.
- 10:44Grabbed. I would say, yeah, I would say
- 10:462019 was the last one. Modern Warfare was probably the
- 10:49last like AAA shooter that you really.
- 10:51And that I really got good at, yeah.
- 10:55I mean, yeah, we didn't play. We didn't play two or three
- 10:57though that much. Like there's only a handful of
- 11:00us that did. But yeah, go on.
- 11:01Sorry. But this game gets me excited to
- 11:04get off work, come home immediately, check the Discord
- 11:07and go, all right, who's online? Where's my squad?
- 11:11Who am I squatting up with? Is it going to be me?
- 11:13Evan Elliott. Brendan, me, Noah, Evan, Julian,
- 11:18it doesn't matter. There's everybody is playing
- 11:20this game and it's awesome to see that the servers on launch
- 11:24were quote, UN quote, overwhelmed.
- 11:26I get it. But I, I got right in.
- 11:30I everyone I know got right in. People are playing.
- 11:32The servers are stable. I, I, I just, I just I, it's
- 11:38unbelievable. They did it.
- 11:39They they did this launch correctly.
- 11:41It is unbelievable considering the last three launches and it's
- 11:47just a good thing to see. This is people talk about like,
- 11:50oh, nature's healing itself. And it's like this is a very
- 11:53good thing for the industry to see.
- 11:54It's when a game like this that's been marred by itself for
- 11:58the past couple years now release in a state like this, it
- 12:02gives really like this like like to everyone else going, OK,
- 12:07fine, we're back. We can we can do this again.
- 12:11This is felt like the biggest like back to three and four that
- 12:14I've played because I I played a lot of three, I played a lot of
- 12:17four and I played Bad company. Those were my Battlefield games.
- 12:21I really. Yeah, I keep I always, I always
- 12:24forget about not I don't didn't really play a lot of Bad Company
- 12:271. I think it was too young at the
- 12:28time when that one came up. But I remember playing a lot of
- 12:30Bad Company too on my PC as a kid.
- 12:32Oh yeah, that was a lot of fun. Yeah, the Vietnam DLC too.
- 12:36Man, that that hit. Dude, so fun.
- 12:37That's so good. But yeah, so for me, man, I've
- 12:40I've loved it. I've loved every moment.
- 12:42I've loved every cinematic adventure online that I've
- 12:45created with my friends. One I'll talk about right now.
- 12:48We, me, Evan, Noah and Elliott were on a rooftop on Wednesday
- 12:52night for 20 minutes. This is a 20 minute thing where
- 12:57we I was sniping and I was getting 230 meter headshots, 3
- 13:03by longest was 350 or something like that.
- 13:06And I went, I was like, yeah, it was like 300.
- 13:10I'll take the 50 off just to because I I think I'm telling.
- 13:13Like the uni generous. I think I'm talking about a big
- 13:15fish story, but like hitting those head shots was awesome.
- 13:19And then seeing those other snipers pay attention to us
- 13:22going fuck, these assholes are on the rooftop because it's just
- 13:26we're just raining fire and I'm taking single shots and all of a
- 13:29sudden we turn around and everyone goes jet, jet, jet.
- 13:33And there's this these jets behind us crashing into our
- 13:36building and shooting and dropping people.
- 13:38People are parachuting at us. And it is, it is incredible.
- 13:42It is incredible. These moments that we're
- 13:44creating are amazing. And there's something to be said
- 13:49about spawn die, spawn die. That's a lot in this game.
- 13:53Like, you know, there are some I don't know how you fix it
- 13:57because it's a lot of takeover. You're taking over a lot of
- 14:01positions in the games we play, and if there's an enemy in that
- 14:05position, you have no choice. If you're already spawning in
- 14:07there, they're there, they're running on rushing and in
- 14:11Battlefield it's not a game where you're spawned camp.
- 14:13You can, but like most of. The time, yeah, it's hard to do,
- 14:16you know, compared to like a God, but yeah, you it's, it's
- 14:19possible. Here what's happening is I can't
- 14:22let you get If I see you pop in, I have to kill you because if I
- 14:26give you a second with that gun it's me so that's important.
- 14:31This game has consequences in the online has just been so
- 14:35awesome. Stop giving up, let the.
- 14:41Medical do your job. I got to say, I've heard that as
- 14:45a complaint from a lot of people in our Discord with this game.
- 14:48And I'm, I'm on the fence about it.
- 14:50And I'll say I'll explain why. Because leading up to this game,
- 14:54myself and several other members of the community like Chad and
- 14:57Elliot and some others, we're playing a lot of Battlefield 4
- 15:02and some Battlefield 3. And at this point in time, those
- 15:06communities are left with the people who play them all the
- 15:09time. And so they know the job, they
- 15:13know the role, they love the game because of that fact,
- 15:16because you have to do your job. So I think with this one, we're
- 15:23saturated right now with a lot of new players that are Call of
- 15:28Duty brained and they're this is their first, you know,
- 15:31battlefield. That's actually good because
- 15:342042 was not and did not really reinforce these traditional like
- 15:39class based roles and like helping your teammates and even
- 15:45nobody wanted that the specialist system that they had
- 15:48in place. And this is absolutely return to
- 15:53a classic form of Battlefield where it's yeah, you know, I
- 15:56mean, there's a bit of a difference now.
- 15:57And I feel like there's benefits and negatives to giving the
- 16:02assault a set a separate role in putting the support.
- 16:05As someone who deals both out ammo and heels in some respect,
- 16:12I feel that dividing up the healing in the ammo reinforces
- 16:16those roles a bit more because you have to have a dedicated
- 16:19person to do one or the other. See so here's the thing, a lot
- 16:25of people as as an engineer main, a lot of people confuse
- 16:30what engineers are. Engineers are usually supposed
- 16:33to be the people flying or driving the the vehicles because
- 16:38the whole point of it is that your primary like your signature
- 16:41weapon. And this was true in Battlefield
- 16:424. In the previous Battlefields
- 16:44before it, and in this one, your SMG or PDW was your primary,
- 16:50your signature gun. And that was because it's
- 16:52inherently meant to be. When you get the fuck out to go
- 16:55and repair it, you have a small like really fast firing gun that
- 16:59can, you know, kill a couple people and then you can start
- 17:02repairing. So in that regard, like I feel
- 17:06that assault in the traditional Battlefield games, you dealt out
- 17:10the heels and support dealt out the ammo and they had the LMG,
- 17:15which I think is is pretty good. I think if anything, you should
- 17:18specialize it. But then I feel that you split
- 17:21that class even more because you're going to have an maybe,
- 17:25you know, out of a team of 32 people, if you have, you know,
- 17:29let's say 15 supports and you know, it's, you know, 10 of them
- 17:33have heels and five of them have ammo, there's going to be a lot
- 17:35less ammo on the team, you know. And so that's why I think they
- 17:38combined that supply bag, you know, gives both.
- 17:40I almost think there should be the supports and then there
- 17:44should be a medic. See, so that's The thing is I'm
- 17:48trying to understand what the assault really does that
- 17:52benefits the team because on inherently frags other than get
- 17:56frags or make an entry like that was their idea is like, well,
- 17:58assault is meant to like make an entryway.
- 18:01Here's my thing with that is yes and yes and no, no, I don't see
- 18:08it that way, but I see it as like a, it can do, it can do
- 18:11that. I think it often times doesn't
- 18:13because people will just use it because inherently it's kind of
- 18:16shown to you that the, the third, your gadget, your first
- 18:18gadget is just another gun and it happens to be a shotgun.
- 18:22So people kind of, yeah, people kind of take that and then run
- 18:26with it and they don't go to the gadgets.
- 18:28And I think that if anything, it should be locked down to
- 18:30assaults. Get 2 gadgets just like every
- 18:32other class and it's not a second weapon.
- 18:35And you know, like I like the assault ladder that they have.
- 18:39I think that's actually a pretty good idea.
- 18:40I think it can be, I think it can be quite helpful.
- 18:43I think the other thing should be a shotgun that can maybe
- 18:47instead of like the sledgehammer that can, you know, break down a
- 18:49wall or something like that, There should be some sort of
- 18:51shotgun that can blast down doors or thin walls, wooden
- 18:55walls, things like that. Something that like they tried
- 18:59to say, you know, is the the entry man, the person who pushes
- 19:03through, you know, you know, I think there is for the assault
- 19:08like some sort of grenade launcher.
- 19:10And that should, you know, come with either high explosives or
- 19:13flash bangs. And it should be something that,
- 19:15yeah, you fired into a window and then your boys run in and
- 19:18boom, everybody gets flash, you know, other than your your team
- 19:21mates, obviously. And you know, Yeah, yeah,
- 19:23exactly. It's it's a bit more tactical
- 19:25that way, but either way, I think that it's in AI think the
- 19:30game is in a very healthy spot. I love that.
- 19:31Season 1 is literally 11 days from now.
- 19:36That's crazy. The game came out seven days
- 19:38ago. So yeah, like, and that's, you
- 19:42know, something that I really enjoy.
- 19:43I think that the we need to play more of the community stuff.
- 19:47We haven't done that, but no, if I have to give like an in like I
- 19:52can't really give an in progress review on level 3536.
- 19:56I've definitely put my time in so far.
- 19:58I'm excited to get to level 50 as of right now.
- 20:01I mean it's a nostalgia trip. So like that, unfortunately
- 20:06biases, you know, makes my review a little odd here, but
- 20:08like I'm I'm sitting at like an 8 and a half 9 like this game is
- 20:12is pretty good, even for all the frustrating things like the
- 20:14spawn die stuff, which I think can be fixed.
- 20:16It just needs to be more like a. Battlefield 4 was a bit more
- 20:19harsh on where you could spawn on your teammates.
- 20:21You had to really wait for them to be clear.
- 20:23I think that just sort of needs to happen in this one.
- 20:26And I guess the only real thing I have to say about it is if
- 20:30anything, I think that they should experiment with a slower
- 20:34time of play. You know, give give the you got
- 20:39to inherently make it either more like dense maps, things
- 20:43that have a lot more things going on, or you have to make
- 20:45just larger maps. But I think that, you know,
- 20:48people could really, I think it's actually pretty cool to to
- 20:51have like a 30 to 40, maybe 45 minute game.
- 20:55Like that's fun. And I think that that also sets
- 20:58it apart. COD is meant to be played
- 21:0010/15/20 minutes. I don't really want to feel like
- 21:02I can load Battlefield up and do the same thing.
- 21:04I want to feel like, I want to feel like how Battlefield is
- 21:07often meant to be, which is in between.
- 21:09It is between COD and Squad. It is between COD and Arma.
- 21:14It is between, you know, Cod and Insurgency Sandstorm.
- 21:18It is this its own thing, you know, that promotes tactical
- 21:25play, tells you to take your time, tells you to work with
- 21:28each other, work with your teammates, work with your squad
- 21:30mates, you know, benefit each other but also have fun, do
- 21:34crazy things, you know, snipe a jet pilot out of a jet and then
- 21:37steal it from him. You know, like, yeah, like do
- 21:40things like that. Like, you know, take a find the
- 21:42TOW missile and shoot it at a, you know, helicopter and crash
- 21:45it. You know, like, just do those
- 21:48cool only in battlefield things. But also there is a tactical
- 21:52edge to it. You know, you got to.
- 21:53You can't just run in and and, you know, as you said, spawn
- 21:56die. Spawn die.
- 21:56Yeah, it gets it, gets it for most people.
- 21:59Yeah, dude, if I had to. Get this.
- 22:02Yeah, if I had to give this my, like first impressions, this is
- 22:06great. This is what we wanted as a
- 22:08community. This is what we wanted as
- 22:09gamers. This is what we wanted is just
- 22:11people who love this game. Great start, great start.
- 22:17Get across the finish line, though.
- 22:19Let's start season one with a bang.
- 22:21See where we go from there, and let's see how this game looks in
- 22:23a year. I mean, the review is going to
- 22:24come out way earlier than that, but let's keep going, pass the
- 22:29baton, let's go. This game is great, let's do
- 22:32more. I think this game will thrive if
- 22:35done right. More weapons?
- 22:37I would I would say two more. Weapons, bigger maps, I think
- 22:40smaller maps. I want a wide variety and.
- 22:44That was an interesting point that I thought about having
- 22:49played it now. We bitched during the beta about
- 22:52how all the maps felt too small. And now I feel arguably that
- 22:56there's not a I was going to say I, I arguably feel that there's
- 22:59not enough small maps because there's only the one which is
- 23:02Saints quarter. And I got to tell you buddy,
- 23:04I've played for a while now. I'm, as I said, I'm level like
- 23:0635. I don't know the exact hours I
- 23:08have. You want to know how many times
- 23:09I've played that map A lot. Zero.
- 23:12No, you haven't, I. I have not played Saints quarter
- 23:16once with. Brendan and a couple other guys
- 23:18a few times. I have not even seen it.
- 23:22I have played every and I've queued for it.
- 23:24I've I've absolutely had it open, especially for the smaller
- 23:26modes and I have not gotten it. I've gotten every other map.
- 23:29So I think I might have to just hard queue it to play.
- 23:32But like, yeah, I noticed I was like, I haven't played that yet.
- 23:35So. But either way, I think that
- 23:37speaks more to my that criticism of like I think yeah, I think
- 23:40there should be I mean Battlefield 3 had an entire DLC
- 23:44about close quarter maps. Yeah, it did.
- 23:46So, you know, I think maybe they should kind of take after that
- 23:50for sorry, I got real quiet there.
- 23:55That really pissed me off. If I had to give it a rating
- 24:008859, it's it's great. It's in a great place.
- 24:04Needs needs a little bit of tune up, but like it's, yeah, it's
- 24:08really good. All stuff that has to be done on
- 24:09the fly, it has to be done while we're playing, it has to be
- 24:11done. While some of that is in the
- 24:13community, I mean, some of that has already occurred, the
- 24:16progression stuff we talked about today is already is
- 24:18already in effect. I thought that was supposed to
- 24:19roll out a week from now. They said it's already live.
- 24:22So that's already exciting. But yeah.
- 24:25Now let's cap the episode off. I'll give you 5 to 10 minutes.
- 24:31I'm serious. You've been playing it.
- 24:33I have not. I've played the beta for Arc
- 24:36Raiders. I love the beta.
- 24:38I thought, I thought it was Immaculate.
- 24:41I thought it was beautiful. I thought the gameplay was so
- 24:43fun. You've played it now for a
- 24:45while. I want to give the floor to you
- 24:47for the next 5-10 minutes. I'm going to you know what it
- 24:50what are your thoughts so. Far first thing that came to
- 24:54mind was in in this is in the nicest way possible.
- 24:59It is exactly as how I played it earlier this year, which I felt
- 25:03very good about it runs great. You know, again, as a as APC
- 25:08player, that's important to me. So I'll just say like quickly, I
- 25:13have everything on Epic slash High settings with rendering at
- 25:18100%, you know, 1440P or whatever, and I'm getting 130 to
- 25:23140 FPS in the game all the time, indoors, outdoors, all
- 25:28that. Transitions, spinning, shooting.
- 25:33Just staying. This game is a very good
- 25:38testament to the idea of immersion and using your
- 25:42surroundings to really get the upper edge on things.
- 25:48What I mean by that is it's very important to pay attention to
- 25:52the things you hear, like in a lot of extraction shooters.
- 25:55But this has such clear audio to me that it it it feels like a
- 25:59different style of game. Tarkov is probably the next like
- 26:05extraction shooter that I played that that I played the most.
- 26:08And I got to say that my biggest complaint about that game was
- 26:10the sound and the audio and the audio quality and being able to
- 26:13understand where people were. I was terrible at it.
- 26:16No matter where, if I wore headphones in game or not,
- 26:19whatever, didn't matter. Where is this?
- 26:22That isn't a problem because that's not how the game works.
- 26:26And the audio itself is so good in terms of positioning and
- 26:32letting you know where people are at, what they're doing.
- 26:35Everything has a very distinctive noise, You know, you
- 26:38know, when someone is trying to break open a locker versus
- 26:42breaking open a door, You know, when someone is trying to
- 26:46activate some sort of like device that's like some sort of
- 26:50Arc thing. Or if they're trying to, you
- 26:52know, escape through one of the hatches or the elevators, you,
- 26:56you know, because every sound is very unique and that matters a
- 27:02lot. And it adds the immersion of
- 27:05things to me. That being said, the gunplay is
- 27:10still very fun. Yeah.
- 27:13Like the, the bodies, the animations are very well done.
- 27:16They're very detailed. I've absolutely found some ways
- 27:19to cheese the movement in a way that feels like still like a
- 27:22video game, but nothing that feels game breaking.
- 27:25As a, for as an example, today I was playing during their service
- 27:28slime event, which is this weekend.
- 27:30And I jumped, I like ran towards a really tall ladder and I slid
- 27:36and I slid past the elevator and turned around and like waited a
- 27:41second and then hit E to like grab onto the elevator and he
- 27:44like literally is falling through the air.
- 27:47And when I hit E, he just grabbed onto it and then slid
- 27:50down it and like landed at the bottom perfectly.
- 27:53And I was like, that's like some Mission Impossible Tom Cruise
- 27:56type shit. And it, but it felt so natural.
- 27:59It was so. And it looked natural as the
- 28:01important thing to the game really prides itself on that
- 28:05sort of animation. So that aspect of it was really
- 28:10fun. And it's that's the important
- 28:12thing too that comes with extraction shooters is things
- 28:15being tense. This game has that.
- 28:19You know, my first, my first raid today after I got home from
- 28:23work. I can describe it because it
- 28:25lasted maybe 10 minutes. I lived, but real quick I
- 28:31spawned, ran to the first building that was in front of
- 28:34me. In the process of that got
- 28:36noticed by three of the flying drones.
- 28:39I shot at one of them and I hit him a little bit but I didn't
- 28:43kill him completely. They start shooting at me, I run
- 28:47towards like a door with a green button on it.
- 28:49I hit it, I open the door, I run inside, I shut the door and as
- 28:53the door shuts I hear a really loud boom on the other side
- 28:55because they launched like a grenade at the door.
- 28:58I run down the stairs. As I'm running down the stairs,
- 29:02a red light comes on and it's a like turret in the basement that
- 29:06noticed me because of course I'm not getting a break.
- 29:09And it starts shooting at me as I run and slide just around the
- 29:13corner and before I take any damage.
- 29:15Then I realized that there's a hole in the ceiling and the
- 29:20flying drones came through the hole and they go all the way
- 29:23down into the basement. They followed me down there.
- 29:26I kill all of them after just cheesing it in the corner and
- 29:29then I book it towards an exit and the process of that I get
- 29:33shot at by multiple other turrets and drones again.
- 29:36There's it feels like an action movie.
- 29:38It it felt like 1. I ended up sliding down into
- 29:41like another dilapidated building and I hear like pitter
- 29:46like like pitter pattering behind me and I turn around and
- 29:49it's a spider drone that reminds me of like a face hugger from
- 29:52alien and it just bare, just barely misses me.
- 29:56And then I shoot at it. I kill it.
- 29:59And I noticed like some sort of rolling drone that rolls right
- 30:02towards me and explodes and like sends me back a little bit.
- 30:06I jump out of a window, slide down like a little like dirt
- 30:10mound like thing, run through a swamp, get to an elevator, hit
- 30:15the button, wait until the very last second and get in and
- 30:18escape. 10 minutes. And I was like, that was more
- 30:22intense, more fun, and just more exciting than any other
- 30:27extraction shooter that I've ever played.
- 30:29And it felt relatively casual, Like it felt like this is how
- 30:34every raid feels. Another highlight that I'll just
- 30:39say briefly, I got to play with John and Russ and that made the
- 30:44experience better tenfold. Playing with friends in this
- 30:47game makes everything so much better.
- 30:50The beauty of it right now is that it's free to play this
- 30:52weekend. So obviously if you have like I
- 30:54think it's APC, Xbox Series X or S or a PlayStation 5, download
- 30:58it and play it. It's completely free.
- 31:00It goes until Sunday night I believe.
- 31:02And they're trying to stress test.
- 31:03So they want to get as many people, especially new players,
- 31:05into it to see if people will genuinely like, and I think a
- 31:08lot of people will because it feels accessible.
- 31:13Tarkov is known for being very difficult.
- 31:15This is not that you're not worried about your food, your
- 31:19water, your radiation levels, your, you know, any of those
- 31:23things. You're not worried about packing
- 31:25a mag, you're not worried about bringing the right gear.
- 31:29You know, this game is simple. You have light Shields, medium
- 31:31Shields, heavy Shields. You know, there's not a whole
- 31:34lot that you need to really worry about.
- 31:37And I don't mean that as a way of like it's, it's dumbed it
- 31:41down or something like that, but it feels just optimized.
- 31:47Like it feels like they know what what sort of group they're
- 31:51chasing, which is, hey, you want to play an extraction shooter,
- 31:54but you don't want to feel like you have to sync hours and hours
- 31:56to really make any progress. And you don't need to feel like
- 32:00you're going to miss out if you don't play every day.
- 32:02And this game is like that. You know, there isn't a wipe
- 32:05system. There isn't that aspect of what
- 32:09you have to play and get better along with everyone else.
- 32:11Otherwise you're going to be left in the dust.
- 32:13Like honestly, this game is way more about surviving against the
- 32:17arcs than it is fighting your fellow Raider.
- 32:20Like I we had in one of our games as a group, we fought
- 32:25another group of Raiders and only after we took out the last
- 32:29one did one of them go, Oh, I was just trying to get out with
- 32:32Flute. And we were like, you tried to,
- 32:33we were like, you tried to kill us.
- 32:36And then he's like, listen, the elevator's coming up because we
- 32:38called it, you know, like if, if you guys are cool, just let me
- 32:41try to crawl in. All right.
- 32:43And we're like, OK, if you can crawl in here, if you can crawl
- 32:46in here, then yeah, you can leave.
- 32:47Like we're not going to kill you.
- 32:49He didn't make it. And it's not because we did
- 32:51anything. He just, he didn't.
- 32:52But it was just like, there's that.
- 32:54Well, there's that. Well, we couldn't, we also
- 32:56couldn't revive him. The only thing we could do was
- 32:58knock him out and take his stuff.
- 33:00So if anything, we did the more honorable thing of just letting
- 33:03him die with his gear instead of taking it.
- 33:07But like, even that was like, again, I don't feel like I got
- 33:12that ever in Tarkov. Every time I met another player
- 33:15in Tarkov, it was an immediate oh, they're firing at me.
- 33:18Yeah, it it is. It is.
- 33:19You're dead. Like, you know, you're fighting
- 33:21them and and you're either walking away or they're walking
- 33:24away. Yeah.
- 33:24Whereas with this, it felt like I even had, I had a separate
- 33:29moment earlier just by myself where I was running with no
- 33:33weapon out towards something else.
- 33:35And another enemy like a another player turned and saw me and he
- 33:40was looting and he pulled his gun out and he shot me a couple
- 33:42of times and I just said over the proximity might be like,
- 33:45hey, hey, I'm not trying to hurt you.
- 33:47I'm just trying to run past, OK. And he put his gun away and then
- 33:51he just crouched and stood up and down a couple times.
- 33:54And I did it back and I was like, you did the wiggle.
- 33:56And I was like, OK, we're good. And then but it's like, again,
- 33:59that's just something where it's like it's, there's really no
- 34:01incentive to like necessarily having to fight every person you
- 34:04see. Cos isn't the big yeah.
- 34:07No. And at the end of the day, if
- 34:08you're trying to fight those kind of fight like the queen or
- 34:12the bigger arcs that are later on in the game, you have to work
- 34:16with other Raiders. You cannot do with just the
- 34:18three people that you are, you know, or the two of the people
- 34:20you're squatted up with. You're going to need to work,
- 34:23which, yeah, I like that. You're going to have to make an
- 34:25uneasy alliance. And this game seems to reward
- 34:29that in a way. So yeah, I mean, those are my my
- 34:3310 minutes. I don't know.
- 34:34I kind of want you to talk a bit more about it because this has
- 34:36just been me yapping for like 35 minutes.
- 34:39Arc Raiders is a very exciting game for me to play.
- 34:43I played a lot of Tarkov with Evan, Jules, Matt, the other
- 34:46guys. Yeah, this game is entry for
- 34:50everybody, and that's important for this genre.
- 34:53This genre is killing itself slowly.
- 34:57Games like Tarkov shoot itself in the face all the time.
- 35:00Marathon literally hung itself and now is trying to come back.
- 35:03And that's fine. I hope it returns.
- 35:05But you know, Bungie does bungee things.
- 35:11This game looks like an awesome entry into the into the into
- 35:15this genre of game, and that's important.
- 35:19The game looks great. It plays great.
- 35:21Last time I played it, I loved it.
- 35:23I was enamored. I didn't want to stop.
- 35:27The movements of the character is so fluid and pretty.
- 35:31I don't know how else to say that.
- 35:32It's just pretty. It felt like an I was in an
- 35:36action movie The entire time. Like Evan said, there were just
- 35:39these moments that felt curated for me and my team, and it just
- 35:45felt like I just never wanted to end.
- 35:48I'm excited to finish this episode.
- 35:53Go play Arc. Yeah, play a lot of Arc all
- 35:56night and drink whiskey because the last time I played this
- 35:59game, I loved it. And I The funny thing is, when I
- 36:02loaded up Steam to preload it today, it was just already back
- 36:07in my library. Yeah, it's just the play test
- 36:11from before. And they, they, The funny thing
- 36:13is, I don't know if you had to when you got home after work,
- 36:17but the hot fix that they put out today was like a big fix
- 36:23aimed at solving some of the crashes and errors that people
- 36:25have been experiencing. And they're like, that said,
- 36:27it's a full redownload of the game and it took like 5 minutes.
- 36:31Oh, beautiful. It was, it was, it was quick.
- 36:34I was like, oh, OK. And he's like, they're like, you
- 36:36know, this is like the last time we're ever going to really have
- 36:38to do that. But like, yeah, like, I don't
- 36:41know. I'm, I'm very optimistic about
- 36:45this game's future. I love the art style.
- 36:47I think that's a huge thing. We and I'd love to talk about it
- 36:50a different time. But like the art style is very,
- 36:52it reminds me of Starfield where it's like NASA punk, you know,
- 36:56it has that sort of like 70s, 80s space age vibe, you know,
- 37:03humanity didn't get quite off. Yeah.
- 37:05Well, like, you know, even just like some of the helmets and
- 37:08like the other little pieces of gear that you can wear like the
- 37:12weapons themselves to like, I like that it's not traditional
- 37:15stuff. Like, yeah, there's you know,
- 37:18there's shotguns, SMGS, pistols, rifles, so on and so forth, of
- 37:20course. But like I like that one of the
- 37:23first weapons is like a break action single shot rifle.
- 37:27Yeah, that deals a really high damage if you're accurate with
- 37:30it. But like you also have, hey, you
- 37:32know, this this SMG that is like looks like this this big, like
- 37:36can on the back and like, that's where it's at, like all the
- 37:40weapon or all the bullets are at.
- 37:42So like that. I just like that everything
- 37:44feels like, yeah, like stitched together and, you know, just
- 37:48like a bunch of geniuses in the the dark somewhere, you know,
- 37:53just came up with these things to fight these robots and all
- 37:55that sort of stuff. And I guess my only gripe so far
- 37:59with this like server slam. And that's where I'll leave it.
- 38:03They've only given US1 map and I I know that it's a server slam.
- 38:08I understand why I totally get it.
- 38:11But man, I'm so excited to get to the other maps because like
- 38:15the the buried city with the desert was beautiful.
- 38:18The spaceport was amazing. And to see the other two is
- 38:21going to be really exciting because there were two that we
- 38:22still didn't get to play. And one of them looks like sort
- 38:24of like an end game area underground, like sort of sort
- 38:28of like some Ark home world type thing.
- 38:30Like it's like this really. Like even just the screenshot
- 38:33that they show is like a really long cave with a bunch of red
- 38:35around it. Like it's been trapped, like,
- 38:37like there's a bunch of traps like, and it's like that, you
- 38:39know, that's going to just have some sort of really intense vibe
- 38:43to it. Yeah.
- 38:46We got to go play it. We got to we got to stop
- 38:47talking. I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 38:48I'm sorry. No.
- 38:49No, no dude, thank you for hopping on.
- 38:52Like I said, we are. We are splitting hairs here.
- 38:54We are we are pulling so many different directions.
- 38:58You guys are having so many different get like hosts hosting
- 39:01WAS deal. But we come back next week with
- 39:06a longer more WASDS episode, either a topic or a full review
