- 0:05Speaker 1: Vera days, Oklahoma takes it. Stephen Shock joining us right
- 0:07Speaker 1: now Big Donkey forty seven on x follow um across
- 0:11Speaker 1: social media channels. He is one of the really, really
- 0:14Speaker 1: great parts of college baseball in terms of showing you
- 0:17Speaker 1: what's going on both on and off the field.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Stephen.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Great to catch up with you man, how you been
- 0:21Speaker 1: and rate this entire Omaha experience just now in terms
- 0:25Speaker 1: of entertainment for.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Us, I gotta say I'm clearly a biased person. I've
- 0:30Speaker 2: been great. Thank you for having me. First of all,
- 0:32Speaker 2: sorry I think about the last part of the question first,
- 0:35Speaker 2: but you know, Omaha was it was one of those
- 0:38Speaker 2: where it's just okay, which team is going to be
- 0:40Speaker 2: the hottest and they're going to take the cake and
- 0:43Speaker 2: we got a lot of hot teams clash and I think,
- 0:45Speaker 2: you know, overall, the field was really cool to see
- 0:48Speaker 2: having Troy and West Virginia making it out to Omaha
- 0:51Speaker 2: for the first time in history for those programs, So
- 0:54Speaker 2: it was just really cool to see a bunch of
- 0:56Speaker 2: different new faces while seeing a good amount of familiar
- 0:59Speaker 2: faces where you know, we have ou coming back after
- 1:02Speaker 2: being there in twenty twenty two and following in finals
- 1:05Speaker 2: and then you and see I mean, what Scott Forbes
- 1:08Speaker 2: is doing with that team has just been incredible to watch.
- 1:10Speaker 2: So it was a really good one. You know, I'm
- 1:12Speaker 2: happy anytime it goes to game three. I hate when
- 1:16Speaker 2: it's you know, decided early and then it's just kind
- 1:18Speaker 2: of a rollover, especially because College World Series wise, game
- 1:22Speaker 2: two is always at like noon on a Sunday, which
- 1:25Speaker 2: not the most exciting time to win a championship. If
- 1:28Speaker 2: you're a team, you do get a good amount of
- 1:30Speaker 2: extra time to of course go party with your friends,
- 1:32Speaker 2: which is great. I love that for them. But winning
- 1:35Speaker 2: a College World Series under the lights, I've never done it,
- 1:38Speaker 2: but it seems like a really cool feeling. So I'm
- 1:40Speaker 2: glad fans got to see that this year.
- 1:44Speaker 3: You said something the rhetoric that it kept hearing all
- 1:47Speaker 3: the time throughout, you know, lead up to games, during
- 1:50Speaker 3: the games. The team that's the hottest is that? Is
- 1:54Speaker 3: that rare in the College World Series? Because yes, we
- 1:58Speaker 3: get what the you know, I think, oh home, it
- 2:00Speaker 3: was eleventh or something in SEC and they made it
- 2:03Speaker 3: all the way and won the championship. But it's the
- 2:06Speaker 3: playoffs all the time. Who's the hottest or Is it
- 2:09Speaker 3: the fact that maybe some of the talent has gotten
- 2:12Speaker 3: dispersed out of some of the teams and throughout the
- 2:14Speaker 3: rest of the game.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Yeah, so I think a lot of it has to
- 2:19Speaker 2: do with just again catching fire. I mean, my experience
- 2:22Speaker 2: is a little different because with my Virginia team, there
- 2:25Speaker 2: was a point where I think we were like thirty
- 2:27Speaker 2: three and it was not good. It was we had
- 2:30Speaker 2: a really bad record, and we all ultimately ended up
- 2:33Speaker 2: making it to Omaha. It was just a matter of,
- 2:36Speaker 2: you know, there's more talent than ever in the college
- 2:38Speaker 2: game right now, especially with the portal helping teams just
- 2:42Speaker 2: you know, kind of pick and choose who they want
- 2:44Speaker 2: to have representing their university for a year, however long
- 2:48Speaker 2: it may be. And I think this year we got
- 2:50Speaker 2: to see that, you know, if those kids aren't meshing well,
- 2:53Speaker 2: if they aren't going out and doing stupid college baseball
- 2:56Speaker 2: things like going into the woods, playing paintball together, whatever
- 3:00Speaker 2: whatever you may choose for your team bonding activities, it's
- 3:03Speaker 2: a matter of the talent is there, but if it's
- 3:07Speaker 2: not clicking, if it's not firing on all cylinders in
- 3:10Speaker 2: college baseball, it's it's not a very forgiving game. So
- 3:13Speaker 2: if the other team's not giving you free nineties, and
- 3:15Speaker 2: you know, the top half of your lineup's hot like
- 3:18Speaker 2: U and C's was, but the bottom half isn't producing
- 3:20Speaker 2: as much, it's gonna it's gonna get shown in the
- 3:23Speaker 2: team that's you know, pitching it well and also has
- 3:27Speaker 2: that offensive prolyss or you know, is finding that offensive
- 3:30Speaker 2: paralysis like Oklahoma was throughout the postseason. It'll really spark
- 3:35Speaker 2: a fire for that team. And you know that sometimes
- 3:38Speaker 2: is all it takes. Where you have good pitching. You know,
- 3:40Speaker 2: they had a lot of freshmen step up for them,
- 3:42Speaker 2: but the bats were there. It's you know, it's comfortable
- 3:46Speaker 2: pitching with a six to seven run lead, especially even
- 3:49Speaker 2: if it's a winn or go home situation. It can
- 3:52Speaker 2: it can really put a pitcher's mind at ease, where
- 3:54Speaker 2: you know, in Omaha, you aren't necessarily going to have
- 3:57Speaker 2: the calmest mind out there on the mound. You if
- 4:01Speaker 2: you're a freshman, anytime you're on the mound, it's going
- 4:03Speaker 2: to be a little bit harder. But having that support
- 4:06Speaker 2: and having that hot line up behind you, it'll really
- 4:10Speaker 2: just help propel the boat forward.
- 4:14Speaker 1: You know why you're enjoying this minute because we're happy. Krats,
- 4:17Speaker 1: We're happy because we're wearing mac Weldon.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Yes, I'm six foot five and nobody can give me
- 4:23Speaker 3: tall clothing, but mack Weldon allows me to have it.
- 4:26Speaker 3: So I don't really have to care about how I look,
- 4:30Speaker 3: and I still look good. Because I don't put a
- 4:32Speaker 3: lot of time into what I do to pick out
- 4:34Speaker 3: my clothes, mac Weldon takes care of it for me.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Classic always in style made from the world's most comfortable
- 4:40Speaker 1: performance materials. Summer gets sweaty, don't let unnecessary sweat spots emerge.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Mac Weldon's air Knit X fabric helps you out. Their
- 4:49Speaker 1: lightest fabric is fused with nylon mesh for maximum airflow.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Skip the midday wardrobe changes. That barely there feel also
- 4:57Speaker 1: keeps you feeling more dry and fresh. But the heat
- 5:00Speaker 1: this summer feel as effortlessly cool as you look. With Mackweldon,
- 5:04Speaker 1: go to Mackweldon dot com and get twenty percent off
- 5:06Speaker 1: your first order of one hundred and twenty five bucks
- 5:08Speaker 1: or more with promo code foul. That's m ack w
- 5:11Speaker 1: e l d O N dot com code foul.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Did you see I mean you follow College baseball, So like,
- 5:19Speaker 3: so in depth getting tours and all that stuff, do
- 5:22Speaker 3: you feel like all the freshmen that contributed We see
- 5:25Speaker 3: other freshmen other years, but do you feel like all
- 5:27Speaker 3: the freshmen that contributed through this run from different teams?
- 5:32Speaker 3: Is a is kind of based on what you have
- 5:36Speaker 3: helped college baseball become in a sense that you give
- 5:39Speaker 3: tours behind the scenes. You like, before kids even make
- 5:43Speaker 3: it to college baseball, you are like, hey, you want
- 5:45Speaker 3: to see their training facility, and now these guys are
- 5:48Speaker 3: now joining the program, you're like, oh, yeah, I saw
- 5:51Speaker 3: a big donkey head and I remember going through this,
- 5:54Speaker 3: And so is it more of a comfort level for
- 5:56Speaker 3: freshmen now to be able to then just go out
- 5:59Speaker 3: and play baseb and not worry about like all the
- 6:01Speaker 3: other crap that you have to worry about as a freshman.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I think just having that familiarity, Like I don't
- 6:07Speaker 2: want to take a credit for oh, you know this
- 6:09Speaker 2: freshman came into it really well, I don't. I don't
- 6:11Speaker 2: think that has much to do with my Twitter. I'd
- 6:13Speaker 2: be honored if that is the case. And you know,
- 6:16Speaker 2: if you are a freshman, you're like, hey, I wanted
- 6:18Speaker 2: to come to do college baseball because of your tweets.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Fire me up, send me a text message. I'll send
- 6:23Speaker 2: you a free hat, whatever you want. But just the
- 6:26Speaker 2: fact that you know, these kids can really know what
- 6:29Speaker 2: they're getting into. And I think in the era of
- 6:31Speaker 2: the transfer portal, there's more value than ever in coaches
- 6:35Speaker 2: being transparent and just kind of showing who they are.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Like you know, sometimes you would go to a program
- 6:41Speaker 2: and it's like, Okay, you get there as a freshman
- 6:43Speaker 2: in this coach. You know, on paper, when they're recruiting you,
- 6:46Speaker 2: it's like they're giving you the horse and pony show.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Everything's great, and then when they get when you get
- 6:51Speaker 2: to campus, it's like this guy's a complete hard Oh
- 6:54Speaker 2: that is not who was recruiting me. And I don't
- 6:56Speaker 2: think that's the case anymore because it's like, look, you
- 6:59Speaker 2: got to reach retain these players a year after year
- 7:02Speaker 2: because the option is there to go home or not
- 7:05Speaker 2: go home, but go to a school that they want
- 7:07Speaker 2: to go to next year. And you know, if they
- 7:09Speaker 2: go out and play sommer ball, for example, with a
- 7:12Speaker 2: bunch of kids from LSU, and they're like, yeah, Jay Johnson,
- 7:15Speaker 2: he's dope. It's sick playing for the Tigers, which obviously
- 7:17Speaker 2: it's gonna be if I'm a freshman who just had
- 7:20Speaker 2: a really good freshman year, but I don't like my
- 7:22Speaker 2: coach or you know, he's more of a heart owe
- 7:24Speaker 2: and he's not meshing with who I am as a person.
- 7:27Speaker 2: There's more incentive than ever to just go, Okay, well,
- 7:30Speaker 2: I'm going to go get my bag playing somewhere else.
- 7:33Speaker 2: And I think just having that transparency and knowing what's
- 7:37Speaker 2: out there, what it looks like at the next level,
- 7:40Speaker 2: is really important for these kids because you know, for
- 7:42Speaker 2: some guys, they're picking college ball over going to the
- 7:45Speaker 2: draft now because you know, on the converse side of things,
- 7:49Speaker 2: seeing what's going on in the minor leagues. Back when
- 7:52Speaker 2: I was growing up, you know, back in twenty ten,
- 7:54Speaker 2: what the minor leagues looked like way different than what
- 7:56Speaker 2: it looks like now. But it was a lot of Okay,
- 8:00Speaker 2: after this game, we're getting fed a plate of beans
- 8:02Speaker 2: and rice. It's not very fun. It's not as fun
- 8:05Speaker 2: as that college experience you could be getting. And now
- 8:08Speaker 2: there's that financial aspect of it too, where you know
- 8:11Speaker 2: you aren't missing out on a signing bonus. And I
- 8:13Speaker 2: think in some cases people will be making more money
- 8:16Speaker 2: than they would make from going to pro ball, just
- 8:19Speaker 2: through the nil side of things. So I think it's
- 8:22Speaker 2: just having that comfort level and understanding, like, Okay, look
- 8:25Speaker 2: when I get to this facility, it's something that you know,
- 8:29Speaker 2: four years from now or three years from now, if
- 8:31Speaker 2: I get drafted, I'm gonna miss a heck of a lot.
- 8:36Speaker 3: You miss a good time. I hear that. All right,
- 8:37Speaker 3: Let's hit Oklahoma. What's your favorite what's your favorite story
- 8:42Speaker 3: or storyline from this Oklahoma run? Is it a player?
- 8:46Speaker 3: Is it Jackson Willitts? Is it the Branch brothers? And
- 8:50Speaker 3: then the Branch ends up hitting a homer to end
- 8:52Speaker 3: his season, just like his brother did. What is your
- 8:55Speaker 3: favorite storyline that we should as fans focus in on?
- 9:00Speaker 2: All right, So the Branch Brothers, that's a story. You
- 9:03Speaker 2: can't write it any better, you know. Growing up as
- 9:05Speaker 2: a little brother, it's like, look, I wanted to play
- 9:07Speaker 2: baseball because I saw my older brother do it, and
- 9:09Speaker 2: I want to do it better than him. And it's like, okay,
- 9:11Speaker 2: but I'm out here winning the College World Series, so
- 9:14Speaker 2: I really don't want to overshadow my brother too much.
- 9:17Speaker 2: So in my last a bat of the season, I'll
- 9:19Speaker 2: pop one over the fence, but it won't be the
- 9:21Speaker 2: most crucial one or anything like that. So he's not
- 9:24Speaker 2: taken anything away from his older brother. But one thing
- 9:27Speaker 2: that I think not many people paying much attention to
- 9:30Speaker 2: was early on in the postseason. So in regionals, when
- 9:33Speaker 2: they're in that do or die game versus Georgia Tech
- 9:36Speaker 2: winner advances to Super Regionals, Dayton hockey, the first baseman
- 9:40Speaker 2: he fouls a ball right off the plate, corner of
- 9:43Speaker 2: the plate, hits him in the nuts. I don't know
- 9:46Speaker 2: that's something as a pitcher, I wouldn't wish that upon
- 9:48Speaker 2: my worst enemy. I would be fearful to throw the
- 9:51Speaker 2: next pitch inside, just because I'm looking out for the kid.
- 9:53Speaker 2: That's how I am as person. But then you know,
- 9:56Speaker 2: two three innings later, he pops a four hundred foot
- 9:59Speaker 2: while or four hundred and fifty foot home run dead
- 10:02Speaker 2: center over the batters. I to send his team to
- 10:05Speaker 2: supers keep the season live. I think that's one point,
- 10:08Speaker 2: especially looking back now seeing what they were able to
- 10:11Speaker 2: do after that, and see how they were able to
- 10:14Speaker 2: turn around their postseason. That's something that I think deserves
- 10:18Speaker 2: more light because you know, I'm not to say that
- 10:21Speaker 2: I'm not a tough individual, but if that happens to me,
- 10:23Speaker 2: that's a pretty good excuse for, you know, me not
- 10:26Speaker 2: to perform well. And he was just playing care free.
- 10:28Speaker 2: He was like, hey, look, people will understand if I'm
- 10:30Speaker 2: not performing well, but I'm going to go ahead and
- 10:33Speaker 2: be the hero we all need.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Who made a name for themselves in this series that
- 10:39Speaker 3: we didn't really know about before this.
- 10:42Speaker 2: So I think Deeting the chance the catcher for Oklahoma.
- 10:46Speaker 2: You know a lot of people knew about him already,
- 10:48Speaker 2: don't get me wrong, but just what he was doing
- 10:51Speaker 2: with pitches outside of the strikes, and I believe he
- 10:53Speaker 2: had six hits on pitches out of the zone, my
- 10:56Speaker 2: favorite of which was a home run about you know,
- 10:59Speaker 2: right out his eye and watching the kids set up
- 11:02Speaker 2: as a hitter, it's like he's very Armbarie. His hands
- 11:05Speaker 2: are like almost in the left hand batter's box. It
- 11:08Speaker 2: looks like because he is a gigantic fella. And for me,
- 11:11Speaker 2: he's a Canadian guy. He's down here from Quebec. He
- 11:14Speaker 2: learned English about a year ago and he's got great English.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Now.
- 11:17Speaker 2: He did great with the media, But for me, I
- 11:21Speaker 2: loved watching that swing because it feels like, Okay, this
- 11:23Speaker 2: is a big Canadian lumberjack and it was made to chobwood.
- 11:27Speaker 2: He absolutely crushed the ball, but I think just showing
- 11:31Speaker 2: the raw power. He has not many walks on the season.
- 11:34Speaker 2: I think he only walked like twenty two times this year.
- 11:37Speaker 2: But with what he was doing with pitches outside of
- 11:39Speaker 2: the zone, it makes sense because you know, hitting pitches,
- 11:42Speaker 2: they call it the strike zone for a reason. Pitchers
- 11:45Speaker 2: are designed to throw it here so hitters at least
- 11:47Speaker 2: have a chance. And this guy's like, I don't care
- 11:49Speaker 2: if you know on paper this is a bad pitch
- 11:52Speaker 2: to swing at. I know I can make hard contact.
- 11:55Speaker 2: That's something I'm always rooting for because I liked the unconventional.
- 11:58Speaker 2: I like the weird.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Crats. Mintmobile plans still just fifteen bucks.

- 13:00Speaker 1: mit mobile for details.
- 13:02Speaker 3: How about it? How about an arm? How about an
- 13:04Speaker 3: arm we didn't know about that possibly popped on the
- 13:07Speaker 3: scene here. I get everybody knows a lot of people,
- 13:10Speaker 3: but somebody that really opened your eyes.
- 13:13Speaker 2: So someone that opened my eyes. I guess it was
- 13:16Speaker 2: just something I missed throughout this season. But UNC freshman
- 13:19Speaker 2: Jackson Rose, he had a two point five to five era,
- 13:23Speaker 2: and this was a stat I didn't know untill they
- 13:25Speaker 2: brought it up on the broadcast. But he threw one
- 13:27Speaker 2: hundred and twenty eight sliders and gave up zero hits
- 13:30Speaker 2: on that. Coming into the College World Series, I don't
- 13:33Speaker 2: recall if he gave up a hit on the slider.
- 13:35Speaker 2: I feel like I would have heard it if he did,
- 13:37Speaker 2: but I don't think he did during that game. So
- 13:40Speaker 2: going the whole season throwing one of your pitches and
- 13:43Speaker 2: not giving up a hit on it, that's just something
- 13:45Speaker 2: that you know, I don't think that happens that often.
- 13:48Speaker 2: That's probably a stat that's a little bit harder to track,
- 13:51Speaker 2: a little bit harder above my pay grade. I don't
- 13:53Speaker 2: think they tracked out at the college level. In MLB.
- 13:56Speaker 2: I'm sure they have all sorts of different metrics about
- 13:58Speaker 2: what happens on every pitch, but just to be able to,
- 14:02Speaker 2: you know, put on that performance as a freshman, he
- 14:04Speaker 2: didn't necessarily do phenomenal in the game he started against Oklahoma,
- 14:08Speaker 2: but it's Oklahoma's offense. You aren't supposed to do great
- 14:12Speaker 2: against that. So I think he was one who really
- 14:14Speaker 2: opened a lot of eyes. And then the older mercurious
- 14:17Speaker 2: brother l Jamier Curious. I mean, every time he went
- 14:20Speaker 2: out there, he just looked like a big league pitcher
- 14:23Speaker 2: like it was a mature approach. Any of his misses,
- 14:26Speaker 2: they weren't too bad, but he really tunneled well off
- 14:29Speaker 2: those misses. You know, he yanks a slider for example,
- 14:32Speaker 2: he's throwing a back door to Seemer to a writing
- 14:34Speaker 2: And I love when we can find pictures like that
- 14:37Speaker 2: because it's just like, Okay, this is the pitching coach
- 14:40Speaker 2: literally playing MLB the show in the dugout. He's hitting
- 14:43Speaker 2: the button on the PitchCom. You know, I used to
- 14:45Speaker 2: make that joke before we had PitchCom but now he's
- 14:47Speaker 2: literally hitting those buttons and just playing a video game
- 14:51Speaker 2: with this guy out there on the mound.
- 14:54Speaker 3: That's that is That is a solid joke. And I
- 14:57Speaker 3: was trying to look it up. What picture did you say,
- 14:59Speaker 3: because we do you have stats on the fact that
- 15:01Speaker 3: did he give up a Who was it again? What
- 15:03Speaker 3: was his name?
- 15:04Speaker 2: Jackson Rose, freshman left on the pitcher from Lenci.
- 15:08Speaker 3: Okay, I'm gonna look it up to see if he
- 15:10Speaker 3: gave up a hit, see if my statistician can can
- 15:13Speaker 3: find it or not. But I want you to hit
- 15:14Speaker 3: while i'm looking it up. I want you to hit
- 15:16Speaker 3: on the possible or the proposal that owners gave the
- 15:21Speaker 3: other day to not allow high school players to be drafted.
- 15:25Speaker 3: You also tweeted after that that would be a huge
- 15:29Speaker 3: influx of talent for NCAA baseball all across the game.
- 15:34Speaker 3: What is your true feeling on that and how that
- 15:39Speaker 3: will Yes, it'll improve the college game, but do you
- 15:42Speaker 3: feel like it will diminish a little bit of value
- 15:45Speaker 3: that some of these guys can get.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Oh? Absolutely, Like, I don't know how many bright I
- 15:50Speaker 2: think Bryce Harper had two MVPs before he would have
- 15:53Speaker 2: been draft eligible under these new rules, So it's like,
- 15:57Speaker 2: that's insane stuff. I would love to see what sort
- 16:00Speaker 2: of nil money Bryce Harper would be bringing in on
- 16:03Speaker 2: a contract. I'm sure he'd probably be down in baton
- 16:05Speaker 2: rouge at LSU, but just the amount of talent that
- 16:10Speaker 2: college baseball would see from that. I mean, even in
- 16:12Speaker 2: twenty twenty when the draft got cut down to twenty
- 16:15Speaker 2: rounds from I believe it was like forty four to two.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Don't quote me on the numbers. Again, I pay attention
- 16:20Speaker 2: to college, and when the cut happened, I was in
- 16:23Speaker 2: college hoping to get drafted, and I was like pretty
- 16:25Speaker 2: upset about it. So I didn't think about it too much,
- 16:28Speaker 2: but just the amount of talent we've seen from then
- 16:31Speaker 2: until now. Like in twenty twenty one, for example, I
- 16:34Speaker 2: believe the home run leader was Wes Clark. He had
- 16:36Speaker 2: twenty four home runs. Now it's like twenty four home
- 16:39Speaker 2: runs is your average second basement in the SEC. So
- 16:43Speaker 2: I love seeing the talent level in college baseball go up.
- 16:47Speaker 2: I think this would obviously force those kids to have
- 16:50Speaker 2: to play in college baseball, so you'd have to have
- 16:52Speaker 2: more talent. But I think as a whole, I don't
- 16:55Speaker 2: think that's the best thing for the game of baseball
- 16:57Speaker 2: because there are so many talent in high school where
- 17:00Speaker 2: you know, you see guys playing college baseball and it's like,
- 17:03Speaker 2: you know, Caden Globber, for example, from UNC, he was
- 17:06Speaker 2: a freshman, he went twenty nine. They went twenty nine
- 17:10Speaker 2: and to zero in games he pitched until the College
- 17:12Speaker 2: World Series. He came in for about six pitches. He
- 17:15Speaker 2: was clearly tired, clearly labor and twenty nine and one
- 17:18Speaker 2: in games he pitched after that, So what, that's a
- 17:21Speaker 2: great season. I don't think we get that if we
- 17:24Speaker 2: have this rule, especially considering the fact that that kid
- 17:27Speaker 2: is seventeen years seventeen going on eighteen. He's supposed to
- 17:31Speaker 2: still be in high school this year. He graduated early
- 17:34Speaker 2: to do it. So I think it would be cool
- 17:36Speaker 2: to see the amount of talent. I would think we
- 17:38Speaker 2: would have to shift to something like wood bats, just
- 17:41Speaker 2: because it would be getting down right dangerous. Like I
- 17:43Speaker 2: think about Mike Trout with a you know, drop three
- 17:46Speaker 2: BB core bat, I wouldn't I wouldn't want to be
- 17:48Speaker 2: playing third base. I'd probably pitch with a face mask
- 17:51Speaker 2: on because you know, my semer cut fastball is not
- 17:54Speaker 2: necessarily going to the back of the catcher's mit more
- 17:56Speaker 2: often than not against a guy like that. So I
- 17:59Speaker 2: think it's something that you know, the owner or whoever's
- 18:02Speaker 2: throwing it out there is just kind of throwing it
- 18:04Speaker 2: out there. It's all that, you know, made up hypothetical
- 18:07Speaker 2: situations right now, so who will know what it'll actually
- 18:11Speaker 2: look like, what they'll actually agree upon. But I think
- 18:14Speaker 2: taking away the high school element of the draft is just,
- 18:17Speaker 2: you know, not really cool in my opinion, because as
- 18:19Speaker 2: a high schooler, I always thought about how cool it
- 18:21Speaker 2: would be to get drafted, you know, like playing in college.
- 18:23Speaker 2: It's a great thing and for a lot of guys,
- 18:26Speaker 2: it is a goal, but ultimately the goal for a
- 18:28Speaker 2: lot of these guys is playing baseball as long as
- 18:30Speaker 2: they can, which you know, playing in a beer league
- 18:33Speaker 2: is fun, don't get me wrong. But playing it for
- 18:36Speaker 2: money and getting you know, to make a living out
- 18:38Speaker 2: of it, that's the dream for all these guys. So
- 18:40Speaker 2: I think it would kind of take away from what
- 18:43Speaker 2: we have, especially in the minor leagues. I think the
- 18:46Speaker 2: minor leagues are a lot better than people give it
- 18:48Speaker 2: credit for, like just being able to go and see
- 18:51Speaker 2: the amount of development that these kids go through. There's
- 18:54Speaker 2: a reason why when minor league coaches get hired by colleges,
- 18:57Speaker 2: they make really great head coaches, even if they were
- 18:59Speaker 2: just like cleaning minor league shoes at that point, because
- 19:03Speaker 2: the amount you learn there is just insurmountable because you
- 19:07Speaker 2: aren't focused on what's going on in chemistry class if
- 19:10Speaker 2: you're you know, a higher learner, or like me, you
- 19:13Speaker 2: know your communications and business administration classes. But either way,
- 19:18Speaker 2: it's one of those things where I don't want to
- 19:20Speaker 2: see minor league baseball go away, especially because you know,
- 19:23Speaker 2: growing up, I love going to Boobie Baysks in Frederick
- 19:26Speaker 2: Keyes games. It was so fun. I remember watching Dylan
- 19:29Speaker 2: Bundy debut for the Frederick Keyes next to Jim Tomay
- 19:33Speaker 2: and you know, that wasn't something that I was ever
- 19:35Speaker 2: used to. And you know, Jim Tomey is sitting four
- 19:38Speaker 2: or five seats away from me and it cost our
- 19:40Speaker 2: family like twenty five bucks to be there. That's something
- 19:43Speaker 2: that you know, the game actually needs more of, in
- 19:45Speaker 2: my opinion. So while college baseball is great and I
- 19:48Speaker 2: love it more than anything, don't get me wrong, I
- 19:51Speaker 2: think that, you know, minor league baseball is extra important
- 19:54Speaker 2: for these guys and just extra important for baseball as
- 19:57Speaker 2: a whole.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I hope they realize that because long term it
- 20:01Speaker 1: could really hurt the next generation of fans if you're
- 20:04Speaker 1: not like me too, falling in love with you know,
- 20:07Speaker 1: going to a Somerset Patriots game for fifteen bucks, you know,
- 20:10Speaker 1: to bring a couple people, the whole deal. I'm the
- 20:12Speaker 1: same way, dude so Well stated, The answer was perfect.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Thank you for joining us. Great to have you on

- 20:25Speaker 1: a follow if you don't already appreciate you man, good
- 20:27Speaker 1: good talking. You talk to you soon.
