The Season with Peter Schrager: 2023 Season Predictions! · Best of the NFL Podcast Network

0:07
Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Scheger is a production of the
0:09
Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. Welcome everybody to the Season
0:25
Speaker 1: with Peter Schreger. We are here. The NFL season has begun.
0:31
Speaker 1: Kickoff is obviously Thursday night. If you're listening to this
0:35
Speaker 1: on Friday or Saturday or Sunday, you already know the
0:38
Speaker 1: outcome to Thursday night's game. We are recording this podcast
0:40
Speaker 1: on Thursday morning, and I'm talking with grave tones in
0:44
Speaker 1: a very serious way, because well, if you listen to
0:47
Speaker 1: the Season with Peter Schreger, it's not just twenty two weeks,
0:50
Speaker 1: it's fifty two weeks. We do this thing every single
0:52
Speaker 1: week because the season is all year. There is no
0:55
Speaker 1: off season in the NFL. Every time a player coughs
0:58
Speaker 1: or hiccups, we talk about it. Anytime we are in
1:01
Speaker 1: the off season. It's the best time for us to
1:03
Speaker 1: get coaches and gms to speak unfiltered with that becomes
1:08
Speaker 1: an all encompassing three sixty view of the NFL. You
1:12
Speaker 1: are owed, and you have earned a chance to listen
1:16
Speaker 1: to Aaron and I give our predictions for the twenty
1:17
Speaker 1: twenty three season. Aaron wan Coffin has joined me, Aaron,
1:20
Speaker 1: my great producer. How you feeling right now?
1:21
Speaker 2: Oh, I'm I'm ready.
1:23
Speaker 3: I'm you know, I've calmed myself down a little to
1:26
Speaker 3: give maybe some hot takes, I don't know. I want
1:28
Speaker 3: to see how you're looking at the future and what
1:31
Speaker 3: I see differently.
1:32
Speaker 1: Let me talk some shit right now? Can I talk
1:35
Speaker 1: some shit?
1:36
Speaker 2: Go off?
1:37
Speaker 1: Okay? They talk that talk. There are a million pregame
1:41
Speaker 1: shows out there. I'm on two of them, and these
1:44
Speaker 1: guys give their Super Bowl picks and it's like Eagles
1:48
Speaker 1: play the Bells BAH, or Chiefs play the forty nine
1:52
Speaker 1: Ers BAH, and like, I need depth. I need to
1:56
Speaker 1: know what your playoff teams are. I need to know
1:59
Speaker 1: who your offensive Rookie of the years are. I need
2:02
Speaker 1: to know who your MVP is. I need to know
2:05
Speaker 1: which team makes the playoff that didn't make the playoffs
2:07
Speaker 1: last year, which team doesn't make the playoffs that did
2:09
Speaker 1: make the playoffs last year. I want to know your
2:10
Speaker 1: coach of the year. That's the stuff I'm here for.
2:13
Speaker 1: I want to go deep. Super Bowl picks. Everyone had
2:16
Speaker 1: a Super Bowl pick. My son made a Super Bowl pick.
2:18
Speaker 1: You know, my son, Mel said to me. I said,
2:20
Speaker 1: mal I gotta pick a Super Bowl pick. What's you
2:21
Speaker 1: suer pick? He said, Daddy, I think the Giants are
2:24
Speaker 1: going to play the Lions. I said, well, that's impossible.
2:26
Speaker 1: But you know what, you know what, Son, you might
2:30
Speaker 1: be right. When you compare yourself to all the other
2:32
Speaker 1: pundits out there who just throw two teams at a wall,
2:36
Speaker 1: they might realign the conferences for you. Baby, I'm not
2:38
Speaker 1: going to stop you. This is your world, this is
2:41
Speaker 1: the Prediction episode. You can turn it off if you
2:44
Speaker 1: don't care, or you can listen and you can play along,
2:48
Speaker 1: and you can tweet us. I'm at p shrigs pschrgs.
2:53
Speaker 1: But everyone in the world makes a Super Bowl pick
2:56
Speaker 1: and then they kind of vanish into the shadows and
2:57
Speaker 1: everyone worries about it. I make my Super Bowl pick.
3:00
Speaker 1: I pin it to the top of my profile, and
3:02
Speaker 1: with great humility, I tell you I have been right
3:05
Speaker 1: the last several years. I had the Chiefs last year,
3:07
Speaker 1: I had the Rans. Before that, I had the Buccaneers
3:09
Speaker 1: before that, I had the Chiefs when they beat the
3:11
Speaker 1: forty nine ers. I take a lot of pride in this.
3:13
Speaker 1: I live and I breathe it. But it's not just
3:15
Speaker 1: gonna be Super Bowl picks. Aaron, are you ready to
3:17
Speaker 1: make some picks with me?
3:18
Speaker 2: I am all set. Let's go.
3:20
Speaker 1: Okay, I've thrown off the what they call these the cans.
3:23
Speaker 1: I've thrown off. Cans are off, gloves are off. Let's
3:29
Speaker 1: start with some insignificant awards. These are just to get
3:35
Speaker 1: our feet wet. All right, all right, NFL Offensive Rookie
3:40
Speaker 1: of the Year. I'm going with Jamiir Gibbs of the
3:42
Speaker 1: Detroit Lions. If you're watching this on Friday morning, Gibbs
3:45
Speaker 1: probably already put up one hundred yards. And on Thursday night,
3:47
Speaker 1: if you're watching this on Thursday going into the game,
3:49
Speaker 1: pick them up in all your fantasy leagues. I am
3:51
Speaker 1: doing this on the strength of speaking with the GM
3:54
Speaker 1: on this very show earlier this summer, when he described
3:57
Speaker 1: Jamiir Gibbs as an elite positionless weapon. When I made
4:02
Speaker 1: the pick of Jamiir Gibbs to start Good Morning Football
4:06
Speaker 1: on twenty fourth as like my breakout player of the
4:09
Speaker 1: of the next few weeks. People are like really a
4:10
Speaker 1: running back, and now it's almost like commonplace. Everyone's in
4:13
Speaker 1: on Gibbs, So no way he can let up to
4:15
Speaker 1: the hype, right I think he can. I think that
4:17
Speaker 1: Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator, is gonna use him in
4:19
Speaker 1: a way that we don't see a lot of running
4:21
Speaker 1: backs in their first year US. I think he's gonna
4:22
Speaker 1: play runningack. I think he's a play wide receiver. I
4:24
Speaker 1: think he's gonna be used in all sorts of different packages.
4:28
Speaker 1: And I think he puts up the stats. Yes, but
4:30
Speaker 1: he also helps make this Lions offense one of the
4:32
Speaker 1: best in the league. I wouldn't be shocked if Detroit
4:34
Speaker 1: finishes the year with the number one ranked offense and
4:37
Speaker 1: Jamier Gibbs is their jack of all trades, their Swiss
4:40
Speaker 1: Army Knife, their Deebo Samuel, their Jaysom Hill, whatever you
4:43
Speaker 1: want to say. I think the Lions are winning the
4:46
Speaker 1: NFC North, and I think Jamiir Gibbs is a breakout star.
4:49
Speaker 1: Jamiir Gibbs is my Offensive Rookie of the Year, Aaron
4:52
Speaker 1: Wan Kaufman, your selection for Offensive Rookie the Year is the.
4:56
Speaker 2: Drummell Anthony Richardson.
4:58
Speaker 1: I know I'm not big boy. I no, I love
5:00
Speaker 1: it go.
5:01
Speaker 3: I know you don't want to pick a rookie who's
5:04
Speaker 3: on a bad team. I know that Gibbs is gonna
5:08
Speaker 3: have so many more wins. And Zay Jones another popular pick.
5:11
Speaker 2: And I know you say.
5:14
Speaker 1: Flowers, say Flowers, I'm gonna pick you up.
5:16
Speaker 2: Yes, say Flowers.
5:17
Speaker 1: Not a rookie, go on.
5:19
Speaker 3: Zay Flowers has a ton of buzz as well, and
5:22
Speaker 3: he could be a good proxy for the Ravens offense
5:24
Speaker 3: doing well. I'm going with Richardson because when Kyler won
5:29
Speaker 3: Offensive Rookie of the Year, he had thirty seven hundred
5:32
Speaker 3: passing yards, twenty passing touchdowns, twelve interceptions, five hundred rushing yards.
5:36
Speaker 1: Okay.
5:37
Speaker 3: Last season, the Colts quarterbacks, the collection of Matt Ryan,
5:40
Speaker 3: sam Ellinger Nick Foles threw for thirty eight hundred yards,
5:44
Speaker 3: seventeen touchdowns, and twenty interceptions.
5:47
Speaker 2: Okay, I think the wide receiver group could allow that.
5:51
Speaker 3: Another thing with Kyler when he won in nineteen, second
5:55
Speaker 3: place was Josh Jacobs, who had eleven hundred yards, seven
5:59
Speaker 3: touchdowns and one hundred and sixty six receiving yards. Aj
6:03
Speaker 3: Brown was third in voting with fifty receptors, fifty two
6:06
Speaker 3: receptions over a thousand yards and eight touchdowns, and Miles
6:11
Speaker 3: Sanders had eight hundred rushing yards and five hundred receiving yards.
6:15
Speaker 3: I feel like Bijon and Gibbs will cannibalize each other.
6:19
Speaker 3: I think that Zay and Addison and JSN they might can't.
6:26
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, So I.
6:28
Speaker 3: Think Richardson is gonna stand like, gonna have a nice
6:30
Speaker 3: second half of the season, and I think he is
6:33
Speaker 3: going to maybe not get thirty five hundred passing yards,
6:36
Speaker 3: but he could get i don't know, six seven hundred
6:39
Speaker 3: rushing yards, like they could really push it. And I
6:41
Speaker 3: think Gibbs that whole offense is already good. We know that,
6:46
Speaker 3: and if the Colts do well, it's because of Richardson.
6:50
Speaker 3: So I'm gonna go out on a limb, which feels
6:52
Speaker 3: weird to say with a quarterback being the offensive Rookie
6:54
Speaker 3: of the Year, but I'm gonna go out on a
6:55
Speaker 3: limb and say Richardson wins Offensive Rookie of the Year.
6:58
Speaker 1: Broke, I tell you something, Yeah, that might have been
7:00
Speaker 1: your best three minutes ever on the podcast.
7:01
Speaker 3: I'm gonna tell you something that's that's my most reach
7:05
Speaker 3: for the whole day.
7:06
Speaker 1: Delivered Like I thought you were gonna come in and
7:09
Speaker 1: be like, nah, you know, maybe Bryce, young dude, that
7:11
Speaker 1: was great. No, I'm really impressed. Right now we are
7:14
Speaker 1: in regular season mode. Dude, Okay, great defensive rookie of
7:18
Speaker 1: the year. Jalen Carter is the overall favorite everywhere. I
7:23
Speaker 1: think he's probably gonna win Rookie of the Year. But
7:26
Speaker 1: that's not fun. So I'm gonna give you another defensive player.
7:29
Speaker 1: And I'm already changing my pick from Good Morning Football,
7:31
Speaker 1: where I picked Brian Berzi earlier this week. I'm gonna
7:34
Speaker 1: give you another Detroit Lion, and it's not their first
7:36
Speaker 1: round pick, Jack Campbell. I think Brian Branch, the heat
7:40
Speaker 1: seeking missile safety for the Detroit Lions, is going to
7:43
Speaker 1: garner aate a lot of attention and might very well
7:46
Speaker 1: be our defensive rookie of the Year again, Lions. I'm
7:49
Speaker 1: all in on the Lions this year. I think they're
7:50
Speaker 1: gonna go big and be on national TV. And I
7:53
Speaker 1: think all these guys are gonna be household names, whether
7:54
Speaker 1: it be Adrian Hutchinson, whether it be i'm Mon Ross
7:57
Speaker 1: nine Brown. But the two rookies, Gibbs and Branch, both
8:00
Speaker 1: of them out of Alabama, I think are gonna be outstanding.
8:03
Speaker 1: I'm going Brian Branch as my late audible from Brian
8:06
Speaker 1: and Jalen Carter. I am now going with my third
8:08
Speaker 1: pick as my first pick on the podcast. Brian Branch
8:12
Speaker 1: is my defensive Rookie of the Year. Aaron, I don't
8:16
Speaker 1: know how passionate you are on Defensive Rookie of the Year,
8:18
Speaker 1: but let's see if you can follow up that offensive
8:19
Speaker 1: Rookie of the Year spiel.
8:20
Speaker 3: All right, So, I think with defensive Rookie of the Year,
8:24
Speaker 3: you need splashy plays. You need big moments that people
8:27
Speaker 3: are gonna see. It doesn't necessarily have to be like
8:30
Speaker 3: nationally televised games, but you need big moments. And I
8:34
Speaker 3: think Emmanuel Forbes for Washington, the cornerback is gonna have
8:38
Speaker 3: some big, big plays because he's gonna play against good receivers,
8:43
Speaker 3: so he's gonna be guarding talented players. And I think
8:46
Speaker 3: he has enough, like ball howking ability to come out
8:50
Speaker 3: and like do some flashy things. So I think Forbes
8:56
Speaker 3: is like kind of a little dark horse. Again, Will Anderson,
8:58
Speaker 3: Jalen Carter, they're probably the top of most people's list.
9:01
Speaker 2: I'd like to see Forbes want it.
9:02
Speaker 1: Okay, all right, let's go onto the next award NFL
9:07
Speaker 1: Coach of the Year why don't you start us off
9:09
Speaker 1: your NFL Coach of the Year. Now, remember to give
9:11
Speaker 1: you some backstory. Most years, if you're listening, you know this.
9:16
Speaker 1: It's not the team with the most wins, it's not
9:18
Speaker 1: the established name. It's the team that makes the biggest leap,
9:21
Speaker 1: and it's usually a younger first year guy. Belichick's only
9:25
Speaker 1: won Coach of the Year three times. I believe Brian
9:28
Speaker 1: Dable won it last year, and in recent years, Kevin
9:29
Speaker 1: Stefanski has won. Matt Naggi has won this award. Sean
9:33
Speaker 1: mcvayh has won this award. Aaron, who do you got?
9:36
Speaker 3: I Am going to complete opposite direction from you, and
9:38
Speaker 3: I'm going with Mike Tomlin. I think that the Steelers
9:42
Speaker 3: have looked really good in preseason. I think the offense
9:44
Speaker 3: and defense are both going to be better than they
9:46
Speaker 3: were last year. And I don't think it's going to
9:49
Speaker 3: be necessarily any one player, unless maybe you think, like
9:52
Speaker 3: what could do defensive player of the year, And I
9:55
Speaker 3: think Tomlin will sort of be the proxy for the
9:57
Speaker 3: whole team doing well, and I think he takes home
10:00
Speaker 3: coach of the Year.
10:01
Speaker 1: Okay, Mike Tomlin. They were an eight win team last year.
10:04
Speaker 1: But I don't know if Mike Tomlin has won NFL
10:06
Speaker 1: Coach of the Year. While I'm talking, google that for me.
10:08
Speaker 1: I think that'd be amazing that after all these years
10:10
Speaker 1: of never being under five hundred, Mike Tomlin has never
10:14
Speaker 1: won a Coach of the Year award. If he did,
10:15
Speaker 1: it was his first season. Has he ever won it?
10:18
Speaker 2: Two thousand and eight?
10:19
Speaker 1: Yeah, so the year they went Super Bowl, Mike Tomlin
10:21
Speaker 1: did win Coach of the Year, but that has been
10:23
Speaker 1: fifteen years already. Yeah, if my math is correct, I
10:25
Speaker 1: think it is my coach of the year. Is that
10:29
Speaker 1: old dog, that renegade, rebel, that maverick, that gun slinger,
10:35
Speaker 1: the guy who does not necessarily love the NFL league offices,
10:39
Speaker 1: does not care about your coaching code, does not care
10:43
Speaker 1: about who coached before him, and yet has his players believing.
10:48
Speaker 1: This could be a massive whiff. But I'm going to
10:50
Speaker 1: bank on him, just knowing just how committed he is
10:52
Speaker 1: to this thing. I'm gonna go Sean Payton as my
10:53
Speaker 1: coach of the Year. I think the Broncos have a
10:55
Speaker 1: massive increase in wins that he gets. Russell Wilson, right,
10:59
Speaker 1: I think these players are all on the same page.
11:01
Speaker 1: I don't think you need six time management coaches to
11:03
Speaker 1: help him. I think he's gonna win in late game situations.
11:06
Speaker 1: To go for an on fourth down, it's necessary, and
11:08
Speaker 1: I think the Broncos have a massive leap and wins.
11:12
Speaker 1: Let's go Broncos. Let's ride all that. Sean Payton is
11:17
Speaker 1: your NFL Coach of the Year.
11:19
Speaker 4: Now.
11:19
Speaker 1: Whether or not the writers actually vote for him is
11:21
Speaker 1: another thing. I don't think he's a fan. He's got
11:23
Speaker 1: all those fans. As far as let's pick him as
11:26
Speaker 1: some like wonderful story. He's kind of the renegade where's
11:30
Speaker 1: the black hat? And I kind of like that. I'm
11:31
Speaker 1: gonna go Sean Payton, all right, next award? All right,
11:36
Speaker 1: so the NFL has Comeback Player of the Year, and
11:39
Speaker 1: I'm gonna say, if Damar Hamlin plays eighteen weeks, Damar
11:43
Speaker 1: Hamlin's gonna be your coach, your comeback player of the year.
11:46
Speaker 1: And I think if DeMar Hamlin even plays week one,
11:48
Speaker 1: so we're not gonna even discuss comeback Player of the Year.
11:51
Speaker 1: I think that's already a Damar Hamlin award to lose,
11:53
Speaker 1: which is such a weird thing to say, Like the
11:54
Speaker 1: only reason he won't win is if he gets cut
11:57
Speaker 1: or if he doesn't play because of an injury, comes
11:59
Speaker 1: moving and God forbid that he's got to go through that.
12:02
Speaker 1: Our next award is Defensive Player of the Year. Nick
12:05
Speaker 1: Bosa won this last year. As of right now, Nick Bosa,
12:08
Speaker 1: Chris Jones, and Brian Burns are not with their current team,
12:11
Speaker 1: so that complicates this thing a little bit. Looking at
12:14
Speaker 1: some of the odds and the leaders on this thing,
12:16
Speaker 1: there are some bigger names, but I'm gonna go with
12:18
Speaker 1: a guy who's a little bit down the list who
12:20
Speaker 1: I heard is absolutely dominated and blew up practices when
12:23
Speaker 1: they did joint practice with the Rams to the point
12:25
Speaker 1: where many people were like, this guy's an absolute beast.
12:28
Speaker 1: He might have a huge breakout year as far as
12:30
Speaker 1: being one of those household names. My Defensive Player of
12:33
Speaker 1: the Year for twenty twenty three is Max Crosby of
12:36
Speaker 1: the Las Vegas Raiders. Going in that tradition of Howie
12:40
Speaker 1: Long and Matt Millen and Charles Woodson and great defenders
12:44
Speaker 1: of Raiders lore. I'm saying Crosby, who's got so many
12:48
Speaker 1: tattoos of crazy things on his body that I think
12:50
Speaker 1: there could be a documentary on it. He is a
12:54
Speaker 1: student of the game. He's also an absolute madman, and
12:57
Speaker 1: he's got those two x's on his name. I'm going
12:59
Speaker 1: Max Crosby a little outside the box as my defensive
13:02
Speaker 1: player of the Year. Aaron, who do you got?
13:04
Speaker 4: Ah?
13:04
Speaker 2: Well, again, I'm gonna be a little bit from you.
13:06
Speaker 3: I'm gonna go completely inside the box and I'm going
13:09
Speaker 3: with Michael Parsons. I think he was second last year.
13:13
Speaker 3: The Cowboys defense is incredible and we have high hopes
13:18
Speaker 3: for the Cowboys as a team as a whole. And
13:20
Speaker 3: if you're thinking that the defensive player has to be
13:23
Speaker 3: someone who's on a really competitive team, I think the
13:26
Speaker 3: Cowboys are definitely up there. And Parsons just changes the
13:31
Speaker 3: way offenses have to deal with him every single down.
13:35
Speaker 2: And I'm going with him. Okay, taking the crown this year?
13:38
Speaker 1: Micah and Crosby. Okay, did you do playoff picks?
13:42
Speaker 2: Aaron did?
13:44
Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay, let's go division by division. I'll name my
13:46
Speaker 1: division winner, you name your division winner. Here we go
13:49
Speaker 1: with no further ado. Peter Schragers. AFC East champion is
13:54
Speaker 1: the New York Jets. The Bills are loaded, but I've
13:57
Speaker 1: got the Jets beating out the Dolphins, the Bills, and
13:59
Speaker 1: the Patriots. Aaron, who do you have as your AFC
14:02
Speaker 1: East champion?
14:03
Speaker 3: I tried to be as unbiased as possible, and I'm
14:05
Speaker 3: going with the Bills.
14:06
Speaker 1: Flow Bills, Okay, the Bills. AFC North, I'm going Bengals.
14:09
Speaker 1: Who do you got in the FC? Going with the Bengals, Okay,
14:12
Speaker 1: AFC South, I've got Jaguars.
14:14
Speaker 2: I'm going the Titans.
14:15
Speaker 1: Yeah, talk about you know we do. No one picked
14:17
Speaker 1: him on Good Morning Football. We're hearing about it. Vrabel's
14:19
Speaker 1: a really good coach. What's the reason Titans over Jacks?
14:22
Speaker 2: Rabel?
14:22
Speaker 3: Rabel and Rabel and they got Hopkins and Henry is
14:27
Speaker 3: still amazing. Like I remember, one of the first things
14:30
Speaker 3: you and I talked about on the show last season
14:33
Speaker 3: was how scared I was anytime I was watching Henry
14:36
Speaker 3: play against the Bills. He's he is incredible. And I
14:39
Speaker 3: think that Rabel just pulls the guts out of that
14:43
Speaker 3: team no matter what. And I think by signing Hopkins,
14:46
Speaker 3: they showed you that they're still in this to win
14:49
Speaker 3: and they are going to compete. And you know, the
14:52
Speaker 3: Jags are great and their defense is a little suspect,
14:55
Speaker 3: and I think the Titans are going to beat them out.
14:58
Speaker 1: Okay. AFC West, I've got the Chiefs who got Kansas City. Okay.
15:02
Speaker 1: Now this is hard because we've said this, only seven
15:04
Speaker 1: teams can make the playoffs, and you can only get
15:06
Speaker 1: three wildcard teams. I'm sure I caught a lot of slack.
15:10
Speaker 1: Here are my three wild card teams. I revealed these
15:12
Speaker 1: on Good Morning Football earlier in the week and have
15:14
Speaker 1: been hearing from it from a lot of fans. The
15:17
Speaker 1: first AFC wildcard team, I have Buffalo. The second AFC
15:20
Speaker 1: wild card team, I have the Steelers. Like you, I
15:23
Speaker 1: think Mike Tomlin is an excellent coach, and I think
15:25
Speaker 1: Kenny Pickett makes a leap. My third AFC wildcard team,
15:28
Speaker 1: I'm going to go all in on Sempaygeon. They got
15:29
Speaker 1: to make the playoffs. I'm taking the Denver Broncos, which
15:31
Speaker 1: means no Chargers, and we loved Kellen Moore on the podcast.
15:35
Speaker 1: He was awesome. No Chargers, no Dolphins, who added a
15:39
Speaker 1: ton and have two of the fastest wide receivers in
15:42
Speaker 1: the sport, And of course no Ravens, which I'm let
15:46
Speaker 1: me give you an aside here My wife is from Baltimore, Maryland.
15:51
Speaker 1: My in laws go to every single game as season
15:53
Speaker 1: ticket holder since they came back as an NFL franchise
15:56
Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety six. And my father in law went
15:59
Speaker 1: to every Baltimore Colts home game from nineteen sixty seven
16:02
Speaker 1: to nineteen eighty three and went to every Baltimore Colts
16:05
Speaker 1: or Baltimore raven Super Bowl. My mother in law, she
16:09
Speaker 1: goes to every game, sitting in the cold weather out
16:12
Speaker 1: there in Baltimore in December to watch Browns Ravens. She
16:15
Speaker 1: is there. I have never not picked the Ravens to
16:18
Speaker 1: make the playoffs, through fear of what that might mean
16:20
Speaker 1: in the family, but also because of what they've built.
16:22
Speaker 1: And yet I don't know about their defense. I just
16:25
Speaker 1: don't know about their defense. The AFC North is loaded,
16:28
Speaker 1: and as much as I love Todd Monkin and that
16:30
Speaker 1: new offense and I think they could get better, I
16:32
Speaker 1: didn't put the Ravens in the playoffs. I have the
16:36
Speaker 1: Broncos instead. Aaron your three AFC wildcard teams.
16:40
Speaker 4: So.
16:42
Speaker 3: I had Titans as the AFC South and I'm gonna
16:45
Speaker 3: have the Jags as my first wild card. Like you again,
16:49
Speaker 3: I shouted out Tomlin earlier. I've got the Steelers and
16:52
Speaker 3: form my third. I'm not going with the Jets. I
16:56
Speaker 3: am going with the Ravens because I think that Lamar
17:01
Speaker 3: seems reinvigorated hopefully, and I think that offense could be really,
17:06
Speaker 3: really excited. I mean, the Ravens got there last year
17:09
Speaker 3: with an offense we were all tired of and without Lamar,
17:12
Speaker 3: and I think this year they can do well. I
17:15
Speaker 3: know that this is a lot to have Bengals, Ravens,
17:18
Speaker 3: Steelers all in there. It happens last year we had
17:20
Speaker 3: three MS, and I think maybe this is like again
17:25
Speaker 3: a little too much personal bias.
17:26
Speaker 2: I think there's so much hype on the Jets.
17:29
Speaker 1: And their first six weeks are really.
17:31
Speaker 3: Hard, and I think, you know what, the Monday Night game,
17:34
Speaker 3: the Bills may not be able to pressure that offensive
17:36
Speaker 3: line enough. But give them a couple of weeks and
17:39
Speaker 3: let's see what that line looks like when they're playing
17:42
Speaker 3: the Cowboys. Like I I think that things could go
17:47
Speaker 3: wrong for the Jets.
17:48
Speaker 2: I so I'm gonna leave them off.
17:51
Speaker 1: You're a hater, yeah A yeah, no Dolphins, no Chargers from.
17:57
Speaker 2: US huh no? Yeah. I love the Dolphins. You know,
18:00
Speaker 2: I think it'd be fun to see so many.
18:03
Speaker 1: Rooms in the end, you know what I mean. Next up,
18:13
Speaker 1: let's go with NFC playoff teams. I'll go first in
18:17
Speaker 1: the East, I have the Eagles. In the North, I
18:20
Speaker 1: went with the Lions. And I know that might not
18:23
Speaker 1: sound shocking now after two months, but if you think
18:25
Speaker 1: about it, I'm actually picking the Lions to win the
18:27
Speaker 1: NFC North. If someone actually put their name on it
18:29
Speaker 1: and say it's actually gonna happen, I'm doing it. If
18:31
Speaker 1: you haven't noticed on this podcast, I'm really all in
18:33
Speaker 1: on the Lions. NFC South by default, the Saints. I
18:38
Speaker 1: don't love Carolina's depth. I have to see what Desmond
18:42
Speaker 1: Ritter can do in a big game before, not in
18:44
Speaker 1: college obviously who's great, but in the pros before I'd say, yes,
18:46
Speaker 1: they're division champions and Tampa big, big unknowns all over
18:50
Speaker 1: that roster, especially in the offensive line. So by the
18:52
Speaker 1: Saints by default. I don't love the Saints, but I
18:54
Speaker 1: think Saints win the division and they're one of those
18:55
Speaker 1: like nine to eight teams that do it. And then
18:58
Speaker 1: the West, I went the Niners. Bosa will figure itself
19:00
Speaker 1: out and if it doesn't. I think they're still good
19:01
Speaker 1: enough wild card teams. Where it gets tricky, I'm going
19:06
Speaker 1: on a limb here. I have one team in the
19:09
Speaker 1: NFC East as a wild card team, and it's not
19:12
Speaker 1: the Cowboys. I have the Giants over the Cowboys this year.
19:16
Speaker 1: The Cowboys have absolutely owned the Giants the last several seasons.
19:19
Speaker 1: I think the Giants get over the hump this year.
19:21
Speaker 1: I feel like times are changing. And it's not against
19:24
Speaker 1: dan Quinn's defense. But you just waxed poetic on. I
19:27
Speaker 1: don't know about the offense. I know Tony Pollard was great,
19:31
Speaker 1: and I know Dak has had big moments and Ceedee
19:33
Speaker 1: Lamb and Brandon Cook. Kellen Moore was really good. Kellen
19:37
Speaker 1: Moore was really good. And you are saying we're putting
19:40
Speaker 1: all our eggs in the Mike McCarthy basket. Let's see.
19:43
Speaker 1: That's all I'll say. Let's see. I have the Cowboys
19:46
Speaker 1: missing the playoffs. I have the Giants making it. I
19:49
Speaker 1: also have the Vikings making it. And as my final
19:53
Speaker 1: wildcard team, I have the Seahawks making it. So those
19:56
Speaker 1: are my three teams. No Cowboys will cause quite a
19:59
Speaker 1: reaction in Dallas, but I think the Cowboys missed the
20:01
Speaker 1: playoffs this year. My apologies to all the major networks.
20:04
Speaker 1: I know they make a lot of money when the
20:05
Speaker 1: Cowboys are good.
20:07
Speaker 2: All right.
20:08
Speaker 3: So, NFC East, I've got the Eagles. I think that
20:12
Speaker 3: we can't count them out. NFC North, I've got the Lions.
20:15
Speaker 3: I think maybe I've been around you too much and
20:17
Speaker 3: I have just inhaled too much of your Lions love,
20:20
Speaker 3: and I am all in on them. NFC South, I
20:24
Speaker 3: have the Falcons. I think for that division, the Saints,
20:29
Speaker 3: like we love a lave. We think Derek Carr will
20:31
Speaker 3: be good and the Saints defense is what we're really
20:34
Speaker 3: excited about. But I think that Falcons offense is going
20:36
Speaker 3: to be really exciting. They've spent but the past three years,
20:40
Speaker 3: they've gotten an offensive, like really good offensive weapon every
20:46
Speaker 3: single year in the first and I along with my
20:48
Speaker 3: Rookie of the Year pick, I think Beijon is gonna
20:50
Speaker 3: be great. I think he's gonna cannibalize the votes away
20:52
Speaker 3: from Gibbs. So I think the Falcons will be the
20:54
Speaker 3: division winners there, Okay. NFC West, I've got the forty
20:58
Speaker 3: nine ers and then my wild cards Seahawks. I think
21:01
Speaker 3: they will be even better than they were last year.
21:04
Speaker 3: I have the Cowboys because I think what offense, yeah,
21:08
Speaker 3: step back there is.
21:09
Speaker 2: I still think they'll make it.
21:10
Speaker 3: And I'm gonna go with the Vikings because I think
21:14
Speaker 3: that I like Kirk Cousins a lot more now after
21:17
Speaker 3: watching than Netflix show.
21:18
Speaker 2: No Giants, No Giants.
21:20
Speaker 3: So I have no New York teams except the Bills,
21:22
Speaker 3: who are really the only true team that plays in
21:24
Speaker 3: New York.
21:24
Speaker 1: Beautiful MVP Most Valuable Player, Have you made your selection?
21:29
Speaker 3: Yes, I am gonna go with a player who was
21:33
Speaker 3: second place last year in voting, even though he sat
21:37
Speaker 3: out a bunch of fourth quarters because his team was
21:40
Speaker 3: just too good. And I think they might not have
21:43
Speaker 3: that luxury this year, and he might have to play
21:45
Speaker 3: a little more, get a.
21:47
Speaker 2: Little more stats. And I think Jalen Hurts is gonna
21:49
Speaker 2: win the MV.
21:50
Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, it's not Shalk, but it's it's a favorite.
21:55
Speaker 1: I'm going a little deeper here. Usually it's become a
21:59
Speaker 1: quarterbacks award in the NFL. Offensive Player of the Year
22:02
Speaker 1: becomes the best skill position justin Jeffer So it was
22:06
Speaker 1: the number two ranked player in the NFL Top one hundred.
22:09
Speaker 1: He's not my pick. We love Jamar Chase and T Higgins.
22:15
Speaker 1: They're not my pick, Noras Allen, Noras mahomes Nowhere, Norrisborough,
22:21
Speaker 1: noras Aaron Rodgers, Norris Herbert. I'm going way down and
22:24
Speaker 1: without knowing where he is on this list, I'm going
22:27
Speaker 1: to put this player as my MVP, and I'm not
22:30
Speaker 1: doing it to cause shock waves. I think this guy
22:33
Speaker 1: has a truly historic season because I think they might
22:35
Speaker 1: need him to. Christian McCaffrey is my selection for a
22:39
Speaker 1: Most Valuable Player? Can I ask what the odds are
22:43
Speaker 1: on Christian McCaffrey on whatever generic gambling site you're looking
22:47
Speaker 1: at right now plus plus eight thousand, and what number
22:53
Speaker 1: ranking is he that if you're counting, I think we're
22:55
Speaker 1: going into the thirties, probably the twenty fifth ranked player
23:01
Speaker 1: when it comes to mvbid. Now counter you this. No
23:04
Speaker 1: one had Lamar Jackson a couple of years ago, no
23:06
Speaker 1: one had Jalen Hurts last year. No one besides me
23:10
Speaker 1: had my homes a few years back. God, you listened
23:12
Speaker 1: to this for the first time. Who is this arrogant?
23:15
Speaker 1: I don't know. I feel like the Niners Arena are
23:18
Speaker 1: gonna roll and it's gonna be on the back of
23:20
Speaker 1: not just that defense. I think McCaffrey's gonna have a
23:23
Speaker 1: truly historic season, and I'm going deep on the Niners.
23:27
Speaker 1: I think the Niners behind McCaffrey and he's gonna be
23:29
Speaker 1: the MVP.
23:30
Speaker 2: You're not scared off at all by Shanahan saying.
23:33
Speaker 1: Elijah, let's go. And now the granddaddy of them all
23:38
Speaker 1: our Super Bowl predictions.
23:40
Speaker 4: We are.
23:42
Speaker 1: Deep into this twenty seven minutes into this podcast, and
23:45
Speaker 1: now we will unveil our super predictions. As I said,
23:49
Speaker 1: I have been right several times. I've had at least
23:52
Speaker 1: one of the right two teams every year since I
23:54
Speaker 1: began doing this on Good Morning Football since twenty sixteen.
23:58
Speaker 1: I will defer to you in the coin toss, Aaron,
24:01
Speaker 1: who is your Super Bowl teams? First for VALA teams,
24:05
Speaker 1: and then reveal it your winner.
24:07
Speaker 3: So I think we're going to have Philadelphia and Cincinnati
24:12
Speaker 3: in the Super Bowl, which is I was glad.
24:18
Speaker 2: I know.
24:18
Speaker 3: I think that Cincinnati understands this is kind of their
24:22
Speaker 3: last year with this core because they got to start
24:24
Speaker 3: paying people and they have lou Still the defensive coordinator.
24:30
Speaker 1: Whom we're gonna get him on the podcast.
24:32
Speaker 2: I don't know how much he's going to stay there.
24:34
Speaker 1: It's just as well because he had an interview with
24:36
Speaker 1: the Cardinals. I think a lot of people thought that
24:37
Speaker 1: was his gig and then they gave it to Jonathan
24:39
Speaker 1: Gannon instead. But that's a whole other podcast.
24:41
Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that this is really their year.
24:45
Speaker 3: Like you have these sort of quick waves of contention
24:49
Speaker 3: and then suddenly you have to pay everyone. And I
24:51
Speaker 3: think this is it for Cincinnati, Like this is the
24:54
Speaker 3: peak of this group right now. And I think that
24:57
Speaker 3: you know, they they are the only ones who've really
24:59
Speaker 3: given Mahomes trouble.
25:01
Speaker 2: Uh, And I think they're going to make it again
25:03
Speaker 2: this year.
25:03
Speaker 1: And your super Bowl winner.
25:05
Speaker 2: Is Philadelphia the Eagle. The Eagles.
25:10
Speaker 1: Eagles take it home and they do it in Vegas.
25:13
Speaker 1: And a year after failing to win the Super Bowl
25:15
Speaker 1: and coming just short, they take it home and they
25:17
Speaker 1: win the Super Bowl all right, which leads to my
25:21
Speaker 1: pick out of the NFC.
25:27
Speaker 3: So dramatic, better build up. I should have taken a
25:30
Speaker 3: little more time.
25:31
Speaker 1: And you were the appetizer, bro is perfect. You were
25:33
Speaker 1: great out of the NFC. A team that's been through
25:40
Speaker 1: adversity has made many questionable decisions over the last several years.
25:46
Speaker 1: At the end of the day, when you get to
25:47
Speaker 1: January football, they're as tough as they come. They're always there,
25:52
Speaker 1: and I think this is the year that they not
25:54
Speaker 1: only host the NFC Championship Game, they win the NFC
26:00
Speaker 1: Championship Game. My winners from the NFC the San Francis
26:06
Speaker 1: Go forty nine ers. I think they play a punishing
26:08
Speaker 1: brand of football that is with Nick Bosa or without.
26:12
Speaker 1: I think their defense always sets the standard. And as
26:14
Speaker 1: much as I love Demko Ryans, I don't think they
26:16
Speaker 1: missed that much of a beat without him. They keep ongoing.
26:20
Speaker 1: They've got young talent at every position there and then
26:22
Speaker 1: on offense, Kyle Shanahan is a mad genius. I think
26:25
Speaker 1: he finally has a quarterback that can operate his offense
26:28
Speaker 1: that he believes he can put in trust and really
26:30
Speaker 1: get them over the hump. He's a former mister Irrelevant
26:33
Speaker 1: and that is okay. I've got McCaffrey as my MVP.
26:36
Speaker 1: I think Deebo has a big year. I think Ayuk
26:38
Speaker 1: is a big year. I think Trent Williams might going
26:41
Speaker 1: out on a swan song. Here in his last couple
26:43
Speaker 1: of seasons, but I think he's still the best tackle
26:45
Speaker 1: in the league. I am going with the San Francisco
26:47
Speaker 1: forty nine ers as my team out of the NFC.
26:52
Speaker 1: As for the AFC really really struggled with this. I
26:59
Speaker 1: had the jets and pencil for several weeks and I
27:03
Speaker 1: erased it out and I said, God, Buffalo sure does
27:08
Speaker 1: look good. You know, Buffalo, no one's talking about him.
27:11
Speaker 1: That's exactly how I like my teams. Just be under
27:13
Speaker 1: the radar. Everyone talk about everyone else. We bring back everybody.
27:16
Speaker 1: We're not dealing with it tomorrow, Hamlin, you know situation
27:19
Speaker 1: on a weekly basis that's absolutely soul crushing and emotional.
27:22
Speaker 1: And come in with a full tank of gats. Let's
27:24
Speaker 1: just run through the league. I like Buffalo a lot
27:26
Speaker 1: this year. Cincinnati, you mentioned it the window. This is
27:31
Speaker 1: their time. If they don't do it now, do they
27:33
Speaker 1: still bring back to Higgins and Chase and all these guys.
27:36
Speaker 1: Is just the last time this core group is going
27:37
Speaker 1: to be together. Then there's Jacksonville. Jacksonville has the fifth
27:41
Speaker 1: easiest schedule in the league. They've got an amazing young
27:45
Speaker 1: crop of players. I love their second round running back
27:48
Speaker 1: Tank Briggsby. I believe his name biggs By runs. I
27:55
Speaker 1: really like all those teams. Yeah, I can't pick against
27:59
Speaker 1: the Chiefs. I don't care if Chris Jones is there.
28:02
Speaker 1: I don't care if Tyreek Hill's not there. I don't
28:05
Speaker 1: care if any of those guys are there. I can't
28:07
Speaker 1: pick against the Chiefs. The Chiefs have been the standard
28:10
Speaker 1: and last year was a great lesson. I stuck with them.
28:13
Speaker 1: I picked them to the wins Super Bowl despite losing Tyreek Hill.
28:15
Speaker 1: I think I might have been in an island on
28:16
Speaker 1: that and that sounds wild considering how much success they have.
28:19
Speaker 1: I will not pick against Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelcey
28:22
Speaker 1: until I am forced to. And I am not forced
28:25
Speaker 1: to pick against them. They are still at the peak
28:26
Speaker 1: of their game. I had a chance to spend time
28:28
Speaker 1: with them this offseason at that Big Slick Charity Classic,
28:32
Speaker 1: and I was hanging with them, and I swear to God,
28:34
Speaker 1: I left that thing being like, those guys are great,
28:35
Speaker 1: And then I talked to us some people around the league,
28:37
Speaker 1: and I'm like, I don't know. They seem to be
28:39
Speaker 1: having a little too good of a time this offseason
28:41
Speaker 1: with the golf and this, and they're at concerts and
28:43
Speaker 1: it's like Mahomes and Kelsey are everywhere in the podcast
28:46
Speaker 1: and you want to start turning away, and then you're like,
28:48
Speaker 1: holy crap, they're just so good. I am going with
28:50
Speaker 1: the Chiefs. I don't know how they get there. I
28:52
Speaker 1: don't know if it's through a one seed and they
28:54
Speaker 1: host all these games a arrowhead. I don't know if
28:56
Speaker 1: they've got to go on the road. But like I said,
29:00
Speaker 1: if it's one of those deals, my eyes will not
29:02
Speaker 1: deceive me. And if there's a fourth quarter and Patrick
29:04
Speaker 1: Mahomes needs to get it done in a big spot,
29:06
Speaker 1: out and done every single time, I'm going with Kansas City. Now,
29:09
Speaker 1: this was a Super Bowl a few years back in Miami.
29:11
Speaker 1: We go from one party city to the next. We
29:13
Speaker 1: go to Vegas. Forty nine Ers versus Chiefs, the Super
29:18
Speaker 1: Bowl champions for the Super Bowl in Las Vegas on CBS.
29:23
Speaker 1: Drum roll, please eron.
29:24
Speaker 4: But the Kansas City Chiefs will be your first back
29:30
Speaker 4: to back Super Bowl champion winners since the New England
29:32
Speaker 4: Patriots did it in two thousand and three and two
29:34
Speaker 4: thousand and four.
29:35
Speaker 1: I am going with the Chiefs. I love what they
29:38
Speaker 1: are all about. I love that people are doubting them,
29:41
Speaker 1: and I love the fact that Mahomes and Kelsey are
29:45
Speaker 1: ready to go. I think Chris Jones hopefully figures this
29:48
Speaker 1: thing out, but I would not pick against them because
29:50
Speaker 1: of the lack of Chris Jones. I learned that last year.
29:52
Speaker 1: Don't pick against them because I wane individual player. What
29:54
Speaker 1: they've built there is too strong. I've got the Kansas
29:57
Speaker 1: City Chiefs winning the Super Bowl, and with that, I
30:00
Speaker 1: bid you farewell. Enjoy this first weekend of games. Aaron,
30:04
Speaker 1: good job. How'd it feel getting all those out?
30:07
Speaker 3: If like a weight has been lifted for me to
30:11
Speaker 3: to to wax poetic on Anthony Richardson a little bit
30:15
Speaker 3: and and to publicly say that I don't believe.
30:18
Speaker 2: In any of the new Jersey teams as well.
30:20
Speaker 1: So can I tell you something? As I say it
30:21
Speaker 1: out loud, and we haven't done these picks on Good
30:23
Speaker 1: Morning FOOTBA yet as we're recording, this doesn't feel great.
30:26
Speaker 1: I kind of want to now, like, now that I've
30:28
Speaker 1: said it and it's going to be recorded, I'm not
30:31
Speaker 1: one hundred percent sure with my picks, and I kind
30:33
Speaker 1: of want to just go like Lions Jets and kind
30:35
Speaker 1: of say get and be like I think it's to
30:37
Speaker 1: me Lion's Jets and be that guy. I'm really tempted
30:40
Speaker 1: I could change my pick for Good Morning Football. I
30:43
Speaker 1: love those teams. Should I change my picks to Lion?
30:46
Speaker 1: This is what happens. This is like the inside, you know,
30:48
Speaker 1: like the neuroses of like Woody Allen and all. This
30:51
Speaker 1: is what I've got going on in my head when
30:52
Speaker 1: it comes to football. Should I change it to Lions Jets?
30:55
Speaker 1: Or Am I going to be laughed off the earth?
30:58
Speaker 3: You know, that's as close as your son's guests will
31:00
Speaker 3: be if you if you did Lion's Jets, because it
31:03
Speaker 3: can't be Lion's Giants.
31:04
Speaker 2: So you know people will.
31:06
Speaker 1: Remember that, Jason, my career is important to me. And
31:12
Speaker 1: when you hit that long Grand Slam, people remember when
31:14
Speaker 1: I say Chiefs over Niners, it's like great for my
31:17
Speaker 1: own personal pride. But gosh, if I said Jets over
31:20
Speaker 1: Lions in the Super Bowl, what would the reaction be?
31:25
Speaker 1: And I don't do it for clicks, so I usually
31:27
Speaker 1: go standard and here's who I really think, and I'm
31:29
Speaker 1: usually right, but I'm tempted to just say it.
31:34
Speaker 3: All right, but you're sitting there, you're watching the playoffs,
31:38
Speaker 3: it's Lions forty nine ers.
31:39
Speaker 2: Are you really going to still feel good at that moment?
31:42
Speaker 4: Right?
31:42
Speaker 1: The Lions defense can't stop that Kyle? And like, is
31:45
Speaker 1: Dan Campbell gonna out coach Kyle Shanahan in the NFC
31:48
Speaker 1: Championship game? Yeah? Are are they? Like basically you're asking,
31:51
Speaker 1: can the Lions go into or host Can they beat
31:54
Speaker 1: San Francisco Philadelphia in Dallas? Can they do that? They
31:58
Speaker 1: have to win multiple games? I don't know. So No, Okay,
32:00
Speaker 1: we're keeping the Niners the Chiefs. Is it even a
32:03
Speaker 1: big splash? If I said Bill's No, is it a
32:06
Speaker 1: big flash? If I said Bengals, No, it's the Jets
32:08
Speaker 1: that are keeping me up. Do I say Jets? But
32:11
Speaker 1: then if I say Jets, I've got the Jets beating
32:14
Speaker 1: the beating the forty nine ers. Well that's what they
32:17
Speaker 1: said on that It hard knocks. That crazy mentalist guy
32:20
Speaker 1: came on right, like, Jets will beat the Niners. Nicole
32:22
Speaker 1: Hardman predicted it. Yeah, do I go with Oz the mentalist? Gosh,
32:29
Speaker 1: I guess I'm staying with the Chiefs. I say, I
32:32
Speaker 1: should probably be pretty you know, convicted here, but I'm not.
32:36
Speaker 3: I think even if you were serious about the Jets,
32:40
Speaker 3: and I realize even when I picked the Bengals, I
32:43
Speaker 3: had to mention Kansas City. I had to say Cincinnati
32:47
Speaker 3: is the only team that really gives Kansas City trouble.
32:49
Speaker 1: Like it's still what if the games are play what
32:51
Speaker 1: if the Jets are the one seed they get a bye.
32:55
Speaker 1: I guess I'm saying they can beat the Bills, Bengals
32:57
Speaker 1: in Chiefs and back to back weeks like those, like
32:59
Speaker 1: the Jaguars can come in and that's like, all right,
33:00
Speaker 1: the Jets are gonna beat the Jaguars, and then the
33:03
Speaker 1: Bengals come in, or the Chiefs come in and they're
33:05
Speaker 1: gonna beat them like they a lot to go, right.
33:07
Speaker 1: You put myhomes in Jacksonville, you put my homes in Cincinnati,
33:10
Speaker 1: you put my homes in Buffalo. I think Mahomes can
33:12
Speaker 1: win it. I haven't seen the Jets do it, and
33:14
Speaker 1: I haven't seen Rogers do it. To be honest, He's
33:17
Speaker 1: won a lot of playoff games, but he's not been
33:19
Speaker 1: the most clutch guy on the road in recent years,
33:21
Speaker 1: and he not even in Lambeau. So all right, I'm
33:23
Speaker 1: staying with my picks, Chiefs over Niners. I'm just like
33:27
Speaker 1: every other freaking pundit. It just goes off into the ether.
33:29
Speaker 1: But I'll pin it on my Twitter profile and I'll
33:31
Speaker 1: go for the streak and I'll go for the stable
33:34
Speaker 1: standard answer. I don't think I was trying to make
33:36
Speaker 1: any clicks here, but if you're a podcast listener, you
33:39
Speaker 1: know I try to take swings, and this one I'm
33:40
Speaker 1: taking it safe, all right. So you've got Eagles over Bengals,
33:44
Speaker 1: I've got Chiefs over forty nine ers, and you, my
33:48
Speaker 1: friends who are listening, just got forty minutes of some
