Speaker 3: Thank you for being here this morning. Man, we got
• 2:31
Speaker 3: let's talk about here. I'm looking at the event that
• 2:34
Speaker 3: you have over Saturday. You know, I think the last
• 2:38
Speaker 3: time you and I were talking, the last time you're
• 2:40
Speaker 3: here was push your Christmas pictures that you do with right.
• 2:43
  Speaker 5: Just before Christmas.
• 2:44
Speaker 3: And now it's Valentine's always something over at Greens Feed
• 2:47
Speaker 3: and Seed, which is at three fourteen Piedmont Road here
• 2:50
  Speaker 3: in Charleston.
• 2:50
Speaker 5: Tell us about this event, Well, it's it's it's for
• 2:53
  Speaker 5: Valentine's and it's called a fundraiser. We're trying to raise
• 2:56
Speaker 5: money again for the for the rescue. We're gonna have
• 3:01
Speaker 5: a professional photographer there again. They're gonna have but two
• 3:05
Speaker 5: five by seven photographs. They're about fourteen dollars and it's
• 3:09
Speaker 5: for mostly for pets. Uh, we'll take a picture of
• 3:12
Speaker 5: the pet. You can be in the picture if you want,
• 3:14
Speaker 5: and uh, we'll give it to you and you also
• 3:18
Speaker 5: get the digital copy also, and we're gonna have some
• 3:20
Speaker 5: baked goods there so you can purchase those. They're for animals,
• 3:24
Speaker 5: of course. Their doggy biscuits are cat and cat basks,
• 3:27
Speaker 5: not the for the humans.
• 3:28
Speaker 3: What you're saying, I mean you can eat them if
• 3:29
Speaker 3: you want. They're okay, Hell, you wouldn't advise that, but
• 3:32
  Speaker 3: go ahead.
• 3:33
Speaker 5: But uh, we're also going to have some special furry
• 3:37
Speaker 5: guests that are gonna be there. It's gonna be a surprise,
• 3:43
Speaker 5: so they'll be there so you can check them out.
• 3:46
Speaker 3: Okay, and you got me intrigued on that.
• 3:49
Speaker 5: We're gonna they're gonna be there in a little plate pen. Okay,
• 3:52
Speaker 5: all right, you can see them and the things start
• 3:54
Speaker 5: at what time it starts, Addie, at the level of
• 3:57
Speaker 5: an until three pm. Three pm, the same place we
• 4:00
Speaker 5: had the photo shoot for Christmas, exact same place. And
• 4:03
Speaker 5: you can also drop off donations, supplies or cash because
• 4:08
Speaker 5: we are a five oh one C three nonprofit organization
• 4:11
Speaker 5: and if you need a tax receipt for your tax deduction,
• 4:14
Speaker 5: we'll provide that. Let's talk about.
• 4:17
Speaker 3: The popularity of doing these photo shoots for Christmas and
• 4:20
Speaker 3: for Valentine's. I've seen people have done them for their
• 4:23
Speaker 3: pets that couldn't go on vacation with them. They've done
• 4:25
Speaker 3: seen groups that have done like beach photos or vacation
• 4:28
Speaker 3: back to school photos for pets and things that this.
• 4:31
Speaker 5: Has really become a big, big deal. It really is.
• 4:33
Speaker 5: For Christmas, a lot of people took the picture of
• 4:36
Speaker 5: their animals and made they're on Christmas card. And as
• 4:40
Speaker 5: a matter of fact, the very first pet that showed
• 4:42
Speaker 5: up for Christmas was a goat. A goat. It was
• 4:45
Speaker 5: a goat. It was hilarious. Okay, all right, so now
• 4:47
  Speaker 5: how hard.
• 4:48
Speaker 3: Is it to get a goat to post for the picture?
• 4:50
Speaker 5: This was a pretty tame goat. I didn't sit on
• 4:52
Speaker 5: the lap, okay, kind of stood, but it was really
• 4:55
Speaker 5: a pretty tame goat. It was really domesticated. It was
• 4:57
Speaker 5: a lot of fun.
• 4:58
Speaker 3: And when you think about these things, you do think
• 4:59
Speaker 3: of obviously dog dogs, come to mind. You know, I'm
• 5:02
Speaker 3: a cat guy, and so cats are can be a
• 5:06
Speaker 3: little bit difficult that time.
• 5:07
  Speaker 2: All of them.
• 5:07
Speaker 3: Ours are actually pretty good. But exotic pets are welcome.
• 5:13
  Speaker 3: I mean, go absolute snakes. I mean, if we'll we'll
• 5:15
Speaker 3: try it, We'll give it a shot.
• 5:17
Speaker 5: Okay, all right. We actually had a few kittens that
• 5:20
Speaker 5: showed up for Christmas, so that we're kind of cute.
• 5:23
Speaker 3: Okay, And again this has happening over at Greens Feeding Seed.
• 5:26
Speaker 3: This is coming Saturday eleven to three pm. Do people
• 5:29
Speaker 3: need to schedule an appointment or are they.
• 5:31
Speaker 5: To hop in? Just go down to greens Feet and
• 5:34
Speaker 5: go shopping and get your picture taken, or come get
• 5:38
Speaker 5: your picture taken, then go shopping, whatever it takes, whatever
• 5:40
  Speaker 5: it takes.
• 5:41
Speaker 3: Talk about the Pick of the Litter Rescue group. I
• 5:43
Speaker 3: mean you guys, I've had you on the show before
• 5:46
Speaker 3: for your various things. Talk about the whole mission.
• 5:48
Speaker 5: And the pick of the whole mission is that it's
• 5:50
Speaker 5: in the name, the Pick of the Litter. We concentrate
• 5:53
Speaker 5: and specialize in kittens, puppies or newborns. We won't turn
• 5:58
Speaker 5: away an adult dog, but we we are fought base,
• 6:00
Speaker 5: so we don't actually have kennels, so when we get
• 6:03
Speaker 5: a call for an animal that needs help, we have
• 6:06
Speaker 5: to find a foster. In the case of right currently
• 6:10
Speaker 5: which I want to apologize that Kristen couldn't make it today.
• 6:12
Speaker 5: She was wanting to come, but we recently acquired five
• 6:16
Speaker 5: and they're currently eight day old puppies from the shelter
• 6:19
Speaker 5: where mom was medically unable to care for them. So
• 6:23
Speaker 5: they need help twenty four to seven. So that's our
• 6:26
Speaker 5: current project and there have to be tube fed, and
• 6:29
Speaker 5: we really desperately need all the help we can get
• 6:33
Speaker 5: with them. As of last year, I have the numbers here.
• 6:36
Speaker 5: We rescue two hundred and one total animals and one
• 6:40
Speaker 5: hundred and thirteen dogs and eighty eight cats and kittens,
• 6:43
Speaker 5: and we currently have fourteen in foster right now that
• 6:46
  Speaker 5: obviously need homes.
• 6:47
Speaker 3: Tarry to Porter Wagner again from the Pick a Little
• 6:49
Speaker 3: that Are Animal Rescue group about this a big event
• 6:51
Speaker 3: that's happening this Saturday over Greens Feed and Seed your
• 6:54
Speaker 3: Valentine's pictures you can get those with your pets from
• 6:57
Speaker 3: eleven to three, but Dave Allen showing five Any Life

• 7:07

• 7:09
Speaker 3: nearest Husband's at Husband's Pizza dot Com. I want us
• 7:12
Speaker 3: to talk a little bit about the foster system porter
• 7:14
Speaker 3: because you know every Friday I have on Hannah Gardener
• 7:18
Speaker 3: from the Canal charsty Man association with this with our
• 7:20
Speaker 3: Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. I think it's
• 7:23
Speaker 3: really interesting and I always try to bring this up
• 7:25
Speaker 3: with Hannah that fostering is a great way that you
• 7:28
Speaker 3: can help out the animal shelters and other groups. It's
• 7:31
Speaker 3: not just about adopting. Sometimes the fosters in this situation,
• 7:36
Speaker 3: like with this medical emergency that you mentioned, can be
• 7:39
Speaker 3: almost more important than what the adoptions can be.
• 7:43
Speaker 5: Right the shelter is all shelters across the country are
• 7:46
Speaker 5: absolutely literally overflowing, and if you have an animal that
• 7:51
Speaker 5: needs medical attention or special needs, maybe it was abused
• 7:54
Speaker 5: and it just doesn't quite get along with the group.
• 7:58
Speaker 5: So this way they get special attention. And it applies
• 8:01
Speaker 5: to any animal, even the ones that do get along
• 8:03
Speaker 5: they just get out of the shelter and get into
• 8:05
Speaker 5: a more of a family oriented home and they do
• 8:08
Speaker 5: so much better. And of course fosters always have first
• 8:11
Speaker 5: choice if they decided to adopt.
• 8:13
Speaker 3: Got a text here for you. It says, is for
• 8:16
Speaker 3: the guests. We have two strays that I think need fixed.
• 8:20
Speaker 3: Do you know of any reduced or free spay and
• 8:22
  Speaker 3: neuters right now?
• 8:24
Speaker 5: Uh? Just up the location of the animal shelter on
• 8:27
Speaker 5: the first floor is a place called Fix Charleston and
• 8:32
Speaker 5: they do low cost neutering, okay. And then there's a
• 8:38
Speaker 5: which other one up on Greenborough Hill. There's another one
• 8:42
  Speaker 5: okay well.
• 8:42
Speaker 3: And by the way, if anybody's listening that knows of those,
• 8:45
Speaker 3: feel free to text me or call Ryan or something.
• 8:47
Speaker 3: They do the low costs. There was one I think
• 8:51
Speaker 3: a few years ago. I know it was doing a
• 8:52
Speaker 3: lot of work in the Barbersville area too. So there
• 8:54
Speaker 3: are a few. We'll try to get those out to
• 8:56
Speaker 3: the people, and please, for goodness sakes, folks, get your
• 8:59
Speaker 3: pet spader newters right. I just sound like the late
• 9:01
Speaker 3: Bob Barker Drew Carrey here.
• 9:03
Speaker 5: But literally overrun and in the case of the five
• 9:07
Speaker 5: pups that we have mom delivered literally as she came
• 9:10
Speaker 5: in the door. Wow. And she was weak and young,
• 9:15
Speaker 5: and that's why she lost the first four. Okay, within
• 9:19
Speaker 5: within one day. They could use all the help.
• 9:21
Speaker 3: What if somebody just wants to stop by and make
• 9:24
  Speaker 3: a donation, I'm sure you'll accept that.
• 9:26
Speaker 5: Absolutely, you want to stop buy greens feed and give
• 9:29
Speaker 5: a donation, or you can go to the shelter too.
• 9:32
Speaker 5: We work hand in hand.
• 9:34
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, we got a great group of people
• 9:36
Speaker 3: here in the canov Valley area that do a lot
• 9:39
Speaker 3: of great things for our animals, I think.
• 9:41
Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, you can go up to the shelter
• 9:43
Speaker 5: and get a dog and take it for a ride
• 9:45
Speaker 5: and then go down to Boulevard and walk it. You know,
• 9:47
Speaker 5: you get a day trip.
• 9:48
Speaker 3: Just get them out of there.
• 9:49
Speaker 5: You don't even have to keep it overnight.
• 9:51
Speaker 3: Yeah, just on a We've had, you know, some beautiful
• 9:54
Speaker 3: weather yesterday here in Charleston. It would be a great
• 9:57
Speaker 3: time just to go, you know what, wouldn't hurt all
• 9:59
Speaker 3: of us else, you know, and as humans to get
• 10:01
Speaker 3: out of the house a little bit too, you know,
• 10:03
Speaker 3: to walk off some of the some of the holiday
• 10:05
Speaker 3: in the winter pounds. But go, Yeah, that's a great idea.
• 10:08
Speaker 3: Go pick up a dog, just take it.
• 10:09
Speaker 5: For a walk, take it for a car.
• 10:10
Speaker 3: Right, I'm sure, I'm sure. Oh somebody texted in and
• 10:12
Speaker 3: said it's called fix them, fix them. That's right, fix them.
• 10:15
Speaker 3: I had a mental block. Greatest listeners Pernal top of
• 10:18
Speaker 3: Bright Hill. But they do they do a job too.
• 10:20
Speaker 3: They do a good job. Texas citizens need to unite
• 10:24
Speaker 3: to demand that West Virginia actually enforce and even strength
• 10:26
Speaker 3: and animal abuse and neglect charges. People have got to
• 10:29
Speaker 3: start being punished for the evil done to ennocent animals. Well,
• 10:31
Speaker 3: no argument here, amen to that. I mean, you're preaching
• 10:34
Speaker 3: to the verbial choir here, me and porter. All right,
• 10:36
Speaker 3: let's wrap it up here. Valentine's fund raiser. You're calling

• 15:07
Speaker 3: on the show, tomorrow, we're gonna spend a little time
• 15:08
Speaker 3: talking about the Night to Shine Prom, which is going
• 15:12
Speaker 3: to be this Friday night a Capitol High School. This
• 15:14
Speaker 3: was the problem and you've heard us talk about it
• 15:16
Speaker 3: several times. Our friends across the hall at EV one
• 15:18

• 15:23
Speaker 3: be a big deal and only a couple of days life.
• 15:26
Speaker 3: We've been talking about this thing for several months, but
• 15:27
Speaker 3: only a couple of days left. We'll talk to Courtney
• 15:29
Speaker 3: from that group, and also on the show tomorrow, Rick Cavender,
• 15:32
Speaker 3: the President of the Kanawha County Board of Education, will
• 15:34
Speaker 3: be here. They have a search ongoing for a new
• 15:38
Speaker 3: superintendent in Kanaha County School As matter of fact, I
• 15:41
Speaker 3: think they had a meeting schedule for like eight or
• 15:43
Speaker 3: eight thirty. I think this morning going on as we speak.
• 15:45
Speaker 3: So we'll talk to Rick about that coming up on
• 15:47
Speaker 3: tomorrow's show. And as always, your calls and text are
• 15:49
Speaker 3: welcome to Terry Elius from Advantage Valley. It stopped by
• 15:52
Speaker 3: the studio this morning. Good morning, welcome to.
• 15:54
Speaker 9: The show, Good morning, thanks for having me, Thank.
• 15:56
Speaker 2: You for being here.
• 15:56
Speaker 3: For those you've been on the show in the past, Terryll.
• 15:58
Speaker 3: But for those who don't know, what is the whole
• 16:01
Speaker 3: mission statement? What is Advantage Valley?
• 16:04
Speaker 9: So our mission really is to promote investment in the
• 16:06
Speaker 9: Charleston and Huntington metro areas combined. Because we all know
• 16:11
Speaker 9: that people live in the surrounding counties from Charleston to
• 16:15
Speaker 9: Huntington and commute regularly within the region, so we really
• 16:19
Speaker 9: operate as one regional economy. So we market it to
• 16:23
Speaker 9: outside investors that would be businesses trying to find locations,
• 16:27
Speaker 9: new locations to locate residential developers. We're really getting into
• 16:31
Speaker 9: working with them as well to look at this region
• 16:34
Speaker 9: as a place to invest in a large metro area
• 16:37
Speaker 9: because our population for those combined areas is six hundred
• 16:41
Speaker 9: and fifty thousand people. So when you go out to
• 16:43
Speaker 9: the world and you're telling the world, hey, this is
• 16:46
Speaker 9: a place with six hundred and fifty thousand people, the
• 16:48
Speaker 9: most populated region in West Virginia, it does make a difference.
• 16:52
Speaker 9: It starts to make people stand up and listen.
• 16:54
Speaker 3: A Lott I'm a big believer in this whole concept,
• 16:56
Speaker 3: and I'm somebody, as listeners know, I talk about it
• 16:58
Speaker 3: that it lives some I live directly in the middle
• 17:00
Speaker 3: because i live in Putnam County, and you know, I'm
• 17:03
Speaker 3: exactly halfway between Huntington and Charleston pretty much. And I'm
• 17:08
Speaker 3: a big believer in this concept because it's a no
• 17:11
Speaker 3: brainer to try to get people to want to come
• 17:13
Speaker 3: in here, to say, Okay, we've got these individual communities.
• 17:16
Speaker 3: I mean, we think Huntington and Charleston, but we also
• 17:19
Speaker 3: think South Charleston, Saint Albans, Winfield, Hurricane A, Barbersville, Milton,
• 17:24
Speaker 3: the area six hundred and fifty thousand.
• 17:26
Speaker 9: Six hundred and fifty thousand for the two metro areas combined.
• 17:29
Speaker 9: We also include Jackson and Mason County in our footprint
• 17:33
Speaker 9: because there are some very large investments occurring in those counties,
• 17:37
Speaker 9: as you know, Newcorp and time At and Berkshire Hathaway
• 17:41
Speaker 9: Renewable Energy. And you know, people are living in Connaugh County,
• 17:46
Speaker 9: they're driving to Jackson County to work. People are living
• 17:48
Speaker 9: in Cannon driving to Mason quite frankly, as well as
• 17:51
Speaker 9: the other counties. But when you're living in Putnam County,
• 17:54
Speaker 9: you're thirty minutes from New Cores facility. So it's a
• 17:58
Speaker 9: really a great time to be marketing our region.
• 18:00
Speaker 3: It is neat again. We're talking with the Tyroll Ellis
• 18:03
Speaker 3: of Advantage Valley. And now that we've gotten you know,
• 18:06
Speaker 3: I sixty four is now open. That stretch that the
• 18:11
Speaker 3: construction went for seventy eight years, I think on it
• 18:13
Speaker 3: to try to get it finished, but they got it finished.
• 18:15
Speaker 3: And the upgrades to thirty five and all this other stuff.
• 18:18
Speaker 3: I mean, the roads ain't perfect, especially in the middle
• 18:21
Speaker 3: of winter, but there's still that's got to be a
• 18:25
Speaker 3: big part of it as well. That expansion on sixty
• 18:27
  Speaker 3: four is huge.
• 18:28
Speaker 9: Oh, it's like such clear sailing now. It's really cut
• 18:31
Speaker 9: down on a lot of the commuting time.
• 18:32
Speaker 3: All right, so you're out with your annual report, let's
• 18:35
Speaker 3: talk about that, right.
• 18:36
Speaker 9: So you know this year our annual report, we had
• 18:38
Speaker 9: a theme of being under construction. That's the theme of
• 18:41
Speaker 9: And if you want to see our annual report, go
• 18:43
Speaker 9: to our website, it's Advantage Valley dot com and you'll
• 18:46
Speaker 9: find it there. Because we felt like we wanted to
• 18:49
Speaker 9: highlight all of the well and we didn't really highlight
• 18:52
Speaker 9: all of them because there wasn't room. But we highlighted
• 18:55
Speaker 9: some of the key new investments that are happening in
• 18:57
Speaker 9: the region that are truly under constructed, So facilities like
• 19:01
Speaker 9: new Core, which we've all heard a lot about, but
• 19:04
Speaker 9: actually in Huntington, the Marshall Institute for Cybersecurity, and there's
• 19:10
Speaker 9: a whole innovation district that's being built on Fourth Avenue
• 19:13
Speaker 9: time at in Jackson County, which is actually going to
• 19:17
Speaker 9: be the only solar powered titanium production facility in the world,
• 19:23
Speaker 9: and it is being powered by that microgrid that Berkshire
• 19:27
Speaker 9: Hathaway is building there on two thousand acres. Here in Charleston,
• 19:30
Speaker 9: we've got the Lift Center that's under construction, that's the
• 19:33
Speaker 9: conversion of the old Kanam manufacturing facility into research and
• 19:39
Speaker 9: food development kind of facility. And housing. We're starting to
• 19:45
  Speaker 9: see housing takeoff.
• 19:47
  Speaker 10: You know.
• 19:47
Speaker 9: Last year we completed a housing assessment of the housing
• 19:50
Speaker 9: needs in the region and we identified that there were
• 19:54
Speaker 9: over the next five years, twenty thousand new housing units
• 19:57
Speaker 9: that were needed to meet the current demand and the
• 20:00
Speaker 9: projected demand by all these new jobs coming in.
• 20:02
Speaker 3: And I think that's very important that we say that
• 20:05
Speaker 3: I'll jump in here one second, that twenty thousand are
• 20:08
Speaker 3: needed for what's already.
• 20:10
Speaker 9: Here, well for what's already here, plus projected, oh okay,
• 20:13
Speaker 9: projected new jobs, because we projected with all these new
• 20:17
Speaker 9: investments there were going to be about five thousand new
• 20:20
Speaker 9: jobs over the next five years. And then you know,
• 20:23
Speaker 9: for every manufacturing job, and those are manufacturing jobs. For
• 20:26
Speaker 9: every manufacturing job, there's a spin off of a number
• 20:29
  Speaker 9: of indirect jobs.
• 20:30
  Speaker 11: Oh yeah.
• 20:30
Speaker 3: We used to say in the coal industry when I
• 20:32
Speaker 3: did a lot of work with the coal industry, that
• 20:33
Speaker 3: it all depended on which metric you use. But for
• 20:36
Speaker 3: every coal mining job, it was approximately seven to ten
• 20:40
Speaker 3: other ancillary jobs that come along with that.
• 20:42
Speaker 9: That's right, And we actually cut back. It's about the
• 20:45
Speaker 9: same for manufacturing. And we cut back on that estimate
• 20:48
Speaker 9: because the number was so big, so we were trying
• 20:50
Speaker 9: to be conservative. But be that as it may. That
• 20:53
Speaker 9: identified a need for eleven thousand new rental units and
• 20:57
Speaker 9: twenty i'm sorry rental units, and about ten thousand new
• 21:03
Speaker 9: residential for sale housing single family home units. So we're
• 21:08
Speaker 9: tracking housing. And you see you talked about Putnam County.
• 21:12
Speaker 9: Putnam does sit in the middle of all these new investments,
• 21:14
Speaker 9: and it's got a great school system and so obviously
• 21:17
Speaker 9: it becomes one of the locations of choice that people
• 21:20
Speaker 9: are choosing to live. And we've seen now announcements of
• 21:26
Speaker 9: large scale residential development. So we were tracking in our
• 21:30
Speaker 9: annual report. We tracked in twenty twenty four that over
• 21:34
Speaker 9: seven hundred new housing units were either permitted or under
• 21:38
Speaker 9: construction in the region. And that is due in large
• 21:42
Speaker 9: part to the fact that people see that report that
• 21:45
Speaker 9: we did and they understand the housing demand and the opportunity.
• 21:48
Speaker 9: So every year we're going to be tracking to benchmark
• 21:51
Speaker 9: ourselves to see how much housing we're developing to meet
• 21:54
Speaker 9: that demand. We started off twenty twenty five with a
• 21:57
Speaker 9: bank in Putnam County announcing six hundred units for Putnam County.
• 22:02
Speaker 9: That was recently announced in January. So and as we
• 22:07
Speaker 9: were trying to set up this, I told you I
• 22:08
Speaker 9: have to be back in my office at ten.
• 22:10
Speaker 3: I'm going to get you out here.
• 22:11
Speaker 9: I have a call with a potential residential developer for
• 22:15
Speaker 9: the region who's very interested in looking at doing something here.
• 22:18
Speaker 9: So anyway, we're excited about all that residential development. So
• 22:22
Speaker 9: these are some of the things that are under construction
• 22:25
Speaker 9: here that are very exciting and I don't want to
• 22:28
Speaker 9: mention too. Under construction is a project that Advantage Valley
• 22:31
Speaker 9: has taken on that's very new to us. We are
• 22:34
Speaker 9: getting in the real estate development business. We have purchased
• 22:37
Speaker 9: property in Putnam County. It's a large industrial property that's
• 22:41
Speaker 9: been sitting vacant for years. It was formerly known as
• 22:44
Speaker 9: the Vosslow Track Building just outside of PoCA, and we have,
• 22:49
Speaker 9: through a series of federal grants and state loans, we're
• 22:52
Speaker 9: rehabbing that and we're going to put it back into
• 22:54
Speaker 9: productive use as an industrial space.
• 22:56
Speaker 3: What do you do you have Is it too early
• 22:57
Speaker 3: to say what you want it to be or I
• 22:59
Speaker 3: mean with just an industrial space.
• 23:01
Speaker 9: It's going to be industrial space that we will lease
• 23:04
Speaker 9: because here, one of the challenges we do have is
• 23:07
Speaker 9: finding shovel ready industrial site. So we talk to a
• 23:10
Speaker 9: lot of manufacturers that are interested in coming here. We
• 23:13
Speaker 9: don't always have the shovel ready land or the ready
• 23:16
Speaker 9: buildings for them to move into, and they're on a
• 23:18
Speaker 9: type time frame, so if we can't meet their time frame,
• 23:21
Speaker 9: they move on to another location. So we want to
• 23:24
Speaker 9: have a facility that's ready to go that can be
• 23:27
  Speaker 9: easily leased.
• 23:28
Speaker 3: Talking to chery Ellis again of the Advantage Valley of
• 23:30

• 23:32

• 23:41
Speaker 3: Birds merchant more at dirtybirds baseball dot com. What else
• 23:45
Speaker 3: came away from this study? What else did you find?
• 23:47
Speaker 9: Well, if you don't mind, I'd like to switch gears
• 23:50
Speaker 9: for a minute, which away to childcare?
• 23:53
  Speaker 5: Okay?
• 23:54
Speaker 9: Because you know, as great as all of these new
• 23:57
Speaker 9: jobs are that are coming into the region, we need
• 24:00
Speaker 9: to make sure that our region and our communities are
• 24:02
Speaker 9: ready with the community infrastructure to support the employers and
• 24:06
Speaker 9: the employees so that we have a workforce that can
• 24:08
Speaker 9: go to work. And so we have identified in addition
• 24:11
Speaker 9: to housing, because housing was identified as a challenge for
• 24:14
Speaker 9: employees to be locating near the employers. In addition to housing,
• 24:19
Speaker 9: childcare and transportation as two other issues where we think
• 24:23
Speaker 9: that there's a lot of room for improvement in what
• 24:26
Speaker 9: we have here in our region. We've identified that there
• 24:30
Speaker 9: are about fifty three hundred childcare slots that we have
• 24:35
Speaker 9: a deficit of fifty three hundred childcare slots, meaning not
• 24:38
Speaker 9: enough slots available for fifty three hundred kids, and that's
• 24:42
Speaker 9: going to impact parents' ability to go to work. So
• 24:46
Speaker 9: I think in maybe today's paper there was an article
• 24:50
Speaker 9: an announcement about the State of West Virginia partnering with
• 24:54
Speaker 9: a company called Wonder School that works with helping to
• 24:57
Speaker 9: develop new childcare programs in communit unities. We are partnering
• 25:02
Speaker 9: with them in our communities and we are going to
• 25:05
Speaker 9: be holding a series of workshops to help people understand
• 25:10
Speaker 9: how they can get started opening a childcare business, and
• 25:14
Speaker 9: we will provide business coaching, technical assistance, mini grants, and
• 25:19
Speaker 9: loan funds if needed for new childcare startups. Now, these
• 25:23
Speaker 9: could be anybody from somebody wanting to open a childcare
• 25:27
Speaker 9: business in their home to a full scale center, but
• 25:31
Speaker 9: we are really putting a focus in twenty twenty five
• 25:34
Speaker 9: on trying to develop more childcare in this area is
• 25:36
Speaker 9: desperately needed. It's been talked about a lot, and it's
• 25:39
Speaker 9: not just a problem here, it's across the state and
• 25:42
Speaker 9: frankly across the country.
• 25:44
Speaker 3: And this is one of those things and we'll do
• 25:45
Speaker 3: this because I know, I know you've got to get
• 25:46
  Speaker 3: on that call.
• 25:47
  Speaker 5: We'll we'll wrap you up.
• 25:48
Speaker 3: One of the things though, you mentioned schools when some
• 25:51
Speaker 3: of these when some of these companies look at coming
• 25:53
Speaker 3: in here, that's very important. But probably secondarily, if something
• 25:57
Speaker 3: you know is the childcare issue, that's what they that's
• 25:59
Speaker 3: what they look at.
• 26:00
Speaker 9: Well, it sure is, and even to the point that
• 26:02
Speaker 9: some of the companies are looking at starting their own
• 26:05
Speaker 9: childcare facilities in order to retain and grow their workforce.
• 26:09
Speaker 9: So we understand that's an issue. We're also working on
• 26:12
Speaker 9: transportation issues as well. But there's a lot of excitement
• 26:16
Speaker 9: in the region. There's a lot of opportunity. We run
• 26:19
Speaker 9: an entrepreneurial development program and you know last year we
• 26:23
Speaker 9: helped thirty new businesses get started that created about sixty
• 26:28
Speaker 9: almost seventy new jobs in the region. You know, these
• 26:31
Speaker 9: are small businesses, small numbers of jobs, and so they
• 26:34
Speaker 9: don't get the headlines, but that's really the kind of
• 26:37
Speaker 9: grassroots economic development that is so positive for your community. Plus,
• 26:41
Speaker 9: we put a very big focus on helping to retain
• 26:44
Speaker 9: our existing manufacturing base and that's a whole other program
• 26:47
Speaker 9: we have. Well, have you had a whole other conversation.
• 26:50
Speaker 3: And I know that the legislature is going to gabble
• 26:52
Speaker 3: in next week a little later this year because of
• 26:54
Speaker 3: the Gubin tour, and I know you guys are are
• 26:56
Speaker 3: always a big part of what's going on out of
• 26:57
Speaker 3: the dome too, I mean talking to people, talking legislators.
• 26:59
Speaker 9: And yeah, we really try to make people aware of
• 27:02
Speaker 9: the issues we're experiencing here in the region. We kind
• 27:04
Speaker 9: of feel like we're a bit of a bell weather
• 27:06
Speaker 9: for what's happening in the state. So yeah, we appreciate
• 27:09
Speaker 9: whatever the state can do to help support us in
• 27:11
Speaker 9: our endeavors, and we're willing to step up like our
• 27:14
Speaker 9: partnership with the Small Business Development Center and Wonder School
• 27:17
Speaker 9: to help, you know, make things better here in the state.

Speaker 3: Realtygroup dot com text says why do people assume that
• 30:26
Speaker 3: all moms want to go to work? Childcare expansion is
• 30:29
Speaker 3: not the answer. Population growth is the correct way to
• 30:32
Speaker 3: gain workers. Turning all children over to child care facilities
• 30:35
Speaker 3: is not an appropriate answer. It will have long term
• 30:38
Speaker 3: negative consequences. As a text, well, the only thing I
• 30:40
Speaker 3: would say to that is that fifty percent of all
• 30:42
Speaker 3: marriages in a divorce, so there's a lot of single
• 30:46
Speaker 3: parents out there, moms and dads. You want to pine
• 30:49
  Speaker 3: on that pushkin.
• 30:50
Speaker 5: I didn't know I was on the area.
• 30:52
Speaker 14: I would say that, you know, in a perfect world,
• 30:54
Speaker 14: if you uh, if we're living in the you know,
• 30:56
Speaker 14: in the land of leave it to Beaver, that might
• 30:58
Speaker 14: be a decent answer, what you know, and if we
• 31:03
Speaker 14: were living in that world, that never really existed. The
• 31:06
Speaker 14: fact of the matter is, even when mom and dad
• 31:09
Speaker 14: stay together, unfortunately a lot of times they need two
• 31:11
Speaker 14: incomes to make ends meet, and childcare is an economic driver.
• 31:17
Speaker 14: And that's why I was so disturbed to see these
• 31:20
Speaker 14: childcare block grants on the chopping block last week, when
• 31:26
Speaker 14: you know, President Trump was throwing out all these different
• 31:29
Speaker 14: memos from the White House of what was going to
• 31:30
Speaker 14: be frozen and what was no longer going to be
• 31:32
Speaker 14: paid for, and we're still a lot in a state
• 31:34
Speaker 14: of chaos over this. I just think it's been completely
• 31:37
Speaker 14: rule by chaos and just to try to confuse the
• 31:41
Speaker 14: crap out of everybody. But I was concerned to see
• 31:44
Speaker 14: the head start was on the chopping block. The childcare
• 31:47
Speaker 14: block grants, school lunch programs, a lot of things that
• 31:50
Speaker 14: a lot of kids in West Virginia and a lot
• 31:51
Speaker 14: of their parents rely on. So I'm concerned.
• 31:54
Speaker 3: I'm just jumped right into the show, but I wouldn't
• 31:56
Speaker 3: want to start off on somebody didn't get to say
• 31:58
  Speaker 3: good morning yet.
• 31:59
  Speaker 12: Hi.
• 31:59
Speaker 3: You know, you know, he came in here this morning
• 32:02
Speaker 3: and was saying that he's no longer wearing his glasses
• 32:05
Speaker 3: because when you were on for the Christmas the Jewish
• 32:08
Speaker 3: Christmas Spectacular, someone talked about how much we looked alike.
• 32:13
Speaker 3: And so now you've gotten rid of the glass.
• 32:16
Speaker 14: I'm trying contact lenses just so people can just you know,
• 32:18
Speaker 14: for the benefit of the public. Who has a hard
• 32:20
Speaker 14: time figuring out which one of us is which the
• 32:23
Speaker 14: album the one without the glasses.
• 32:24
Speaker 3: Okay, well that's not gonna happen with me. So before
• 32:27
Speaker 3: we get into anything else, and I've already got a
• 32:29
Speaker 3: ton of text here, wait ninety as we always do,
• 32:31
Speaker 3: and we'll beat each other up a little bit. But
• 32:33
Speaker 3: I do want to say Sunday night was a great
• 32:35
Speaker 3: night for a Charleston native and your good friend, Sierra Farrell.
• 32:39
  Speaker 3: Four Grammys.
• 32:40
Speaker 14: Oh man, I was so proud. It was so well deserved.
• 32:44
Speaker 14: And you know this is not just an overnight success.
• 32:47
Speaker 14: She has been working at her craft for a.
• 32:49
Speaker 5: Long time, I know.
• 32:50
Speaker 14: And she was born with just this, you know, god
• 32:54
Speaker 14: given talent with her voice, you know, the incredible rain
• 32:57
Speaker 14: she has. She just has such I think the best
• 32:59
Speaker 14: voice on the planet. But also she has the ability
• 33:02
Speaker 14: to captivate an audience with her live performances, and something
• 33:06
Speaker 14: that a lot of artists, you know, even a lot
• 33:07
Speaker 14: of Grammy winning artists don't have, and that's this genius
• 33:10
Speaker 14: songwriting ability. I mean, the vast majority of the songs
• 33:13
Speaker 14: that on her album she wrote and wrote wrote by herself.
• 33:17
Speaker 14: I mean she had a couple of co writers and
• 33:18
Speaker 14: won a Grammy for one of the songs that she
• 33:20
Speaker 14: co wrote on the last album. The majority of her
• 33:22
Speaker 14: songs she wrote, she writes. Yeah, and she's from right
• 33:25
Speaker 14: here in Charleston. Performed with you numerous times, been on
• 33:29
Speaker 14: this show as a matter of fact, when she was
• 33:31
Speaker 14: at Live on the Levee a couple of years ago.
• 33:33
  Speaker 14: So she's a fantastic performer.
• 33:35
  Speaker 9: I was.
• 33:35
Speaker 3: I was happy, happy to see it. All right, let
• 33:37
Speaker 3: me knock out some text here before we get into
• 33:40
Speaker 3: We had lot of stuff I want to get into.
• 33:41
  Speaker 5: Texas.
• 33:42
Speaker 3: Dave America has turned their backs on her allies, and
• 33:45
Speaker 3: I told you about the trade wars hurting our coal industry.
• 33:49
Speaker 3: So as a texture, well, that was yesterday was an
• 33:51
Speaker 3: interesting day because you had all this bluster about these
• 33:55
Speaker 3: trade wars with our biggest trade partners in.
• 34:00
Speaker 14: Canada and Mexico. And then all of a sudden, you know,
• 34:03
Speaker 14: the stock market just tanked over it. And then all
• 34:06
Speaker 14: of a sudden it was like, oh, trade wars off
• 34:08
Speaker 14: because we've got what we want.
• 34:09
Speaker 3: Well, they were already doing this.
• 34:11
Speaker 14: They were already doing the things that they were being
• 34:14
Speaker 14: asked to do about troops at the border.
• 34:16
Speaker 5: They already do this. They already had the troops.
• 34:18
Speaker 3: To me that, yes, the ten thousand troops, they've already
• 34:22
  Speaker 3: agreed to that.
• 34:22
Speaker 14: That was stuff already in place. It was negotiated before. Okay,
• 34:27
Speaker 14: so it was that was to me, it was just
• 34:29
Speaker 14: very performative. Meanwhile, you got the richest man in the
• 34:33
Speaker 14: world who had now has control over the treasure of
• 34:36
Speaker 14: the US Treasury. I think it was a diversion, a
• 34:40
Speaker 14: diversion tactic to get you, look at this shiny object
• 34:42
Speaker 14: over here, while we give Elon Musk access to everybody's
• 34:45
Speaker 14: personal information here at the US Treasury Department.
• 34:49
Speaker 3: Isn't that kind of And we've learned since Donald Trump
• 34:52
Speaker 3: has been in a position of power even when he
• 34:55
Speaker 3: wasn't in the White House, and that's kind of what
• 34:57
Speaker 3: Trump does. I mean, unfortunately, he frequently says outrageous things
• 35:02
Speaker 3: that he's not going to do. He does, he tells
• 35:06
Speaker 3: a lot of lies, or he may say it, well,
• 35:08
Speaker 3: it's just a diversion to throw things out there that
• 35:11
Speaker 3: he has no intention of carrying out he knows aren't legal,
• 35:14
Speaker 3: but just the kind of maybe create a diversion to
• 35:19
Speaker 3: move on to something else.
• 35:20
Speaker 14: Yeah, and that's why we really need to choose the
• 35:21
Speaker 14: battles that were fighting here, because there's so many battles
• 35:25
Speaker 14: to choose from. I'm really concerned about what went on
• 35:28
Speaker 14: last week with the executive order on the spending freeze
• 35:32
Speaker 14: on like projects like the hydrogen hub in West Virginia
• 35:38
Speaker 14: that I think most Republicans I know were very much
• 35:40
Speaker 14: in favor of, including Shelley Moore Capito. She was a
• 35:43
Speaker 14: champion of that, and now she's strangely silent on this
• 35:46
Speaker 14: issue now that the project is completely in limbo because
• 35:50
Speaker 14: Trump doesn't want anyone else to have any credit for
• 35:52
Speaker 14: anything good. But there was a lot of investment going
• 35:55
Speaker 14: into our state, not just the hydrogen hub, a lot
• 35:57
Speaker 14: of investment through the Inflation Reduction Act, through the Infrastructure
• 36:01
Speaker 14: Bill that he could never get passed.
• 36:03
Speaker 5: That he could never get.
• 36:04
Speaker 14: He had an infrastructure week every other week, he had,
• 36:07
Speaker 14: you know, infrastructure cookouts, but he couldn't he didn't.
• 36:10
Speaker 3: Have an infrastructure He didn't get a new bill.
• 36:12
Speaker 14: I wasn't invited either, but he didn't get an infrastructure
• 36:14
Speaker 14: bill that we got under the previous administration. And that
• 36:18
Speaker 14: created a lot of investment into West Virginia and the
• 36:21
Speaker 14: American Rescue Plan and other bills. That's that's what he froze. Yeah,
• 36:25
Speaker 14: the spending from these bills because he doesn't have doesn't
• 36:28
Speaker 14: get any credit for it. But it's it's it's hurting
• 36:31
Speaker 14: West Virginia. That project would have would have hired a
• 36:34
Speaker 14: lot of West Virginia workers and now it's going to
• 36:37
Speaker 14: get to complete limbo. And where's you know, where's Congresswoman
• 36:41
Speaker 14: Capitol who was a champion of where's our news?
• 36:43
  Speaker 5: Senator Uh?
• 36:44
Speaker 14: I don't know if he's even in Washington, DC. And
• 36:47
Speaker 14: I'll be honest, where's our attorney general? He should be
• 36:49
Speaker 14: joining the other states that are suing this over this
• 36:53
Speaker 14: unconstitutional spending freeze that on projects that are already passed
• 36:58
Speaker 14: by Congress. Congress has the power or the person. It's unconstitutional.
• 37:01
Speaker 14: So where is the attorney to the governor. Why isn't
• 37:04
Speaker 14: he fighting for westernsidio.
• 37:05
Speaker 3: I think people are stopping, and I'm not defending anybody, Mike,
• 37:09
Speaker 3: but I think what's happening is is that they're saying, Okay, well,
• 37:12
Speaker 3: this may be overturned in court. Let's just pause. I
• 37:14
Speaker 3: don't necessarily agree with that myself, but that could be.
• 37:17
Speaker 14: If it's going to be overturned in court, it's because
• 37:19
Speaker 14: several states are leading the charge. In our state, who's
• 37:22
Speaker 14: disproportionately hurt by it. We should have an attorney general
• 37:25
Speaker 14: that fights for our state, not fight for a front
• 37:28
Speaker 14: row ticket. At a Trump rally, tex says Trump's Canada
• 37:32
Speaker 14: negotiating listen, I'll shoot us both in the foot if
• 37:35
Speaker 14: you don't do what you've already planned in December. Due
• 37:37
Speaker 14: magas are the biggest dupes. Good thing about Trump's idiocy
• 37:40
Speaker 14: is it's an opportunity for learning. I learned that the
• 37:43
Speaker 14: US food production completely relies on Canadian potash to grow, produce,
• 37:48
Speaker 14: and produce, I should say, and feed for livestock. Canada
• 37:51
Speaker 14: has US agriculture by the blanks. Let's see Trump play
• 37:55
Speaker 14: tough and Canada respond with tariffs, limits.
• 37:58
  Speaker 5: On imports, etc.
• 37:59
Speaker 14: It was a whole lot of bluster yesterday over that
• 38:04
Speaker 14: to distract us from what's what's really going on. Canada
• 38:07
Speaker 14: agreed to something they were already doing. Mexico agreed to
• 38:10
Speaker 14: something they were already doing, and what it did do
• 38:13
Speaker 14: colledges a lot of great uncertainty in the in the
• 38:15
Speaker 14: world markets, and a lot of people were a little
• 38:18
Speaker 14: bit concerned when they were looking at their you know,
• 38:20
Speaker 14: their retirement funds yesterday.
• 38:23
Speaker 3: Texas, if Trump has his way, there won't be a
• 38:25
Speaker 3: solar powered tatanium facility. I bet New Cores trying to
• 38:28
Speaker 3: shore up funding so they don't have to abandon an
• 38:31
Speaker 3: in progress construction site as a text, but Dave Island
• 38:34
Speaker 3: showing five any Lie Browns apartment by Morgan to Morgan
• 38:36
Speaker 3: if you're injured high Morgan to Morgan in America's largest
• 38:39
Speaker 3: jury law firm, Texas government subsidized childcare services are most
• 38:43
Speaker 3: certainly on the chopping block. The majority want that, I'm
• 38:46
Speaker 3: going to say, probably say that's a hard note.
• 38:48
Speaker 14: I would say the majority does does not want. The
• 38:50
Speaker 14: majority of working families rely on that, and it is that,
• 38:55
Speaker 14: you know, it's an economic issue that drives other economic issues.
• 38:58
Speaker 14: If people aren't able to get to work, we're going
• 39:00
Speaker 14: to have it even worse for workforce participation participation rate
• 39:04
Speaker 14: than we already have. And right now West Virginia has
• 39:06
Speaker 14: the worst workforce participation rate. So yeah, it that subsidy
• 39:13
Speaker 14: helps keep the gears moving. That's what moves everything else.
• 39:18
Speaker 3: Tex says, if Trump is such a big issue, why
• 39:20
Speaker 3: aren't the Democrats doing anything? And if they are, why
• 39:23
Speaker 3: aren't they saying anything. Buskin talks about so many battles,
• 39:27
Speaker 3: but there's no battle if the Democrats don't fight. The
• 39:29
Speaker 3: Democrats are fighting. And we spent the weekend reorganizing the party.
• 39:34
Speaker 3: Give yourself a new party head Avenue. We are you good,
• 39:37
  Speaker 3: good person?
• 39:38
  Speaker 5: You for that.
• 39:38
  Speaker 10: He is an.
• 39:39
Speaker 14: Excellent person and he was definitely the best choice for
• 39:41
Speaker 14: that job. And Ken Martin from Minnesota, he is he's
• 39:46
Speaker 14: a workhorse, not a show horse, and he is I
• 39:48
Speaker 14: mean I call him the organizer in chief and he
• 39:51
Speaker 14: is going to help rebuild this party from the grassroots up.
• 39:54
Speaker 14: But that's what we spent the weekend doing was actually
• 39:56
Speaker 14: having you know, debates and elections and actually.
• 39:59
Speaker 5: Being part of that.
• 40:00
Speaker 14: Were you there, yes, yeah, I remember, Yeah, As the
• 40:02
Speaker 14: chair of the West Virginia Democratic Party. I'm also an
• 40:05
Speaker 14: automatic member of the DNC, so it was an honor
• 40:08
Speaker 14: to take part in that. But we you know, in
• 40:11
Speaker 14: democracy with a little deep is it could be messy.
• 40:15
Speaker 14: It took a long time because we were actually giving
• 40:17
Speaker 14: everybody a fair share at different offices. Meanwhile, on the
• 40:20
Speaker 14: other side, I believe President Trump's hands the Republican Party
• 40:24
Speaker 14: a slate and said this is running the RNC his family.
• 40:27
Speaker 14: He handed the r NC over to his family, and
• 40:30
Speaker 14: we're actually having elections. And it took a while, but
• 40:32
Speaker 14: I think we came out with a great slate of officers.
• 40:35
Speaker 14: It's led by Ken Martin that's going to be going
• 40:38
Speaker 14: to turn this thing around Texas.
• 40:39
Speaker 3: Trump's chaos is a smoke screen for the unelected billionaire
• 40:42
Speaker 3: Elon Musk rating of the Treasury Department. I remember Republicans
• 40:45
Speaker 3: being up in arms about unelected billionaires running the government
• 40:48
Speaker 3: during the last administration. If Republicans didn't have double standards,
• 40:51
Speaker 3: they wouldn't have any standards at all.
• 40:54
Speaker 5: A text are an agree more.
• 40:55
Speaker 14: I think that's what we really need to be paying
• 40:57
Speaker 14: attention to, is how much power they're handing over to
• 41:00
Speaker 14: this Uh yeah, this billionaire. Uh, the tech industry Elon
• 41:05
  Speaker 14: Musk It's it's scary.
• 41:09
Speaker 3: Tex says the synchronized Conservative anger meet he also known
• 41:12
Speaker 3: as scam, will rot your brain. We already have evidence.
• 41:15
  Speaker 14: Uh.
• 41:16
Speaker 3: Shelley Kappado says the TEXTA is scared of being primary
• 41:18
Speaker 3: by the tech bros if she goes against their dear leader.
• 41:21
Speaker 3: She needs the government paycheck and insider trading info to
• 41:24
Speaker 3: increase her wealth. Okay, I could have probably not read
• 41:26
Speaker 3: that last part. Uh, but it was the last I'm
• 41:29
Speaker 3: not going to get in. That's that's a very accusing toys.
• 41:31
Speaker 14: Also, I would say that she's also uh interested in
• 41:35
Speaker 14: let's say this, she's interested in who gets that appointment
• 41:37
Speaker 14: to be the US Attorney for the Southern District.
• 41:39
Speaker 3: She does, She does think she has.
• 41:41
Speaker 5: An interest in it.
• 41:41
Speaker 3: Possibly possibly, Tex says, hold on a second, Okay, I
• 41:49
Speaker 3: already read that one. Please don't send me the text twice. Texas.
• 41:53
Speaker 3: Dave Florida guy here. Every time Mike Pushkin's on the radio,
• 41:56
Speaker 3: he has the BMW disease, not the car belly Eate
• 41:59
Speaker 3: moaning one BMW So our things down in Florida. Let's
• 42:03
Speaker 3: he should call in.
• 42:04
Speaker 14: Sometimes we can get hear how nice it is, and
• 42:06
Speaker 14: it's awful nice here in West Virginia today. You know
• 42:08
Speaker 14: you should come back to West Virginia since you know,
• 42:11
Speaker 14: with such a great interest in our politics, we'd welcome
• 42:13
  Speaker 14: me back.
• 42:14
Speaker 5: Florida. Man, come on back, Tex.
• 42:15
Speaker 3: Says, did chairman push can attend the DNC meeting this
• 42:17
Speaker 3: past weekend where the new chair was selected. I couldn't
• 42:20
Speaker 3: pick him out of in the dance video.
• 42:23
  Speaker 15: Oh.
• 42:23
  Speaker 5: I think a lot of.
• 42:24
Speaker 14: Videos were posted. They were taken out of context. The
• 42:27
Speaker 14: meeting took about thirteen hours, so at one point dancing no.
• 42:31
Speaker 14: At one point it.
• 42:32
Speaker 5: Was just like come on, get up and stretch your legs.
• 42:34
Speaker 14: And while they were counting votes on one of the
• 42:36
Speaker 14: many elections that we had.
• 42:38
Speaker 3: You know, it wasn't just about the DNC chair.
• 42:40
Speaker 5: It was you know, the vice chair for.
• 42:44
Speaker 14: Community engage, civic engagement, which is a big role. It
• 42:47
Speaker 14: was about you know, electing a treasurer, a finance chair,
• 42:52
Speaker 14: you know, and d NC vice chairs at large.
• 42:55
Speaker 5: So there was a lot of.
• 42:56
Speaker 14: Different votes and you know, you have to get a
• 42:58
Speaker 14: fifty percent majority of get over fifty percent of the
• 43:01
Speaker 14: votes and or you know, you can't just win with
• 43:02
Speaker 14: the pluralities. A lot of times it was multiple ballots,
• 43:04
  Speaker 14: so it took.
• 43:05
  Speaker 5: A long time.
• 43:06
Speaker 14: So at one point they stay played like one of
• 43:09
Speaker 14: those lion dancing songs. I call it squadron dance, Squadron dance,
• 43:13
Speaker 14: And they had a little squadron dance and people took
• 43:15
Speaker 14: a video and took it out of context. It was
• 43:17
Speaker 14: simply about stretching your legs.
• 43:18
Speaker 3: Well, it can't be any worse than what the Republicans
• 43:20
Speaker 3: have done with YMCA, I can and Trump's move with
• 43:24
Speaker 3: Look up, Bill Barr if you want to know what
• 43:26
Speaker 3: Trump's move is with that dance.
• 43:27
Speaker 5: And I'll just leave it at that. But yeah, it
• 43:29
  Speaker 5: couldn't be anymore.
• 43:30
Speaker 3: It could not be any any worse or more horrific
• 43:33
  Speaker 3: than watching that.
• 43:35
Speaker 14: Yeah, I'm not going to read too much into that,
• 43:37
Speaker 14: and we should read too much into people getting up
• 43:39
Speaker 14: and stretching their legs at the DNC.
• 43:42
Speaker 3: Dave, why do you shrug your shoulders that obvious authoritarian
• 43:44
Speaker 3: actions by the disgraced Trump and unlike a bureaucrat Nazi
• 43:47
Speaker 3: musk who was brought in to who bought his way
• 43:50
Speaker 3: into the White House, tell us why it's great for
• 43:52
Speaker 3: inspectors general to be fired illegally, for FBI workers to
• 43:55
Speaker 3: be fired for investigating crimes, for fifteen hundred criminals to
• 43:57
Speaker 3: be released, and for political violence to be accept Republicans
• 44:00
Speaker 3: have no inseecrety or honor. I don't think I said
• 44:02
Speaker 3: any of those things. You okay, I didn't know. I
• 44:06
Speaker 3: don't think you've ever heard me defend Donald Trump on anything.
• 44:08
Speaker 3: Uh Tex says, uh Mike stopped the redundancy of how
• 44:12
Speaker 3: bad the policies as President Trump are. The people see
• 44:15
Speaker 3: how President Trump is repairing the damage of the Democratic administration.
• 44:19
Speaker 14: I think he's going to be extremely bad, especially for
• 44:22
Speaker 14: West Virginia when you're when you're freezing funding for projects
• 44:26
Speaker 14: that are going into this state. It projects that everybody
• 44:31
Speaker 14: I know on the other side of the aisle just
• 44:32
Speaker 14: about wholeheartedly supported Shelley Moore. Senator Capita was a champion
• 44:38
Speaker 14: of this hydrogen hub project. And now I'm not sure
• 44:41
  Speaker 14: it's going to get done. I don't think it's going
• 44:43
Speaker 14: to It is frozen because that that that appropriation didn't
• 44:46
Speaker 14: happen under under Trump's watch. Now, I think it's illegal
• 44:50
  Speaker 14: what he's doing. It's a I mean, I think most
• 44:52
Speaker 14: folks who took a ninth grade Civics class can tell
• 44:54
Speaker 14: you that there are three separate but equal branches of government.
• 44:59
Speaker 3: Going to the court. Leila, Yeah, and West Virginia should
• 45:02
Speaker 3: join in in that case. I'll say it again, Well,
• 45:04
Speaker 3: it disproportionately hurts us. We should have a champion here
• 45:07
Speaker 3: in West Virginia who who joins in on that case
• 45:10
Speaker 3: and fights for West Virginians. Anyway, the power of the
• 45:14
Speaker 3: purse resides in Congress. A spending bill starts in the
• 45:17
Speaker 3: House of Representatives. It has later approved through a conference
• 45:20
Speaker 3: committee with the Senate. The president cannot just stop stop
• 45:26
Speaker 3: spending with all right, let me do this and I
• 45:28
Speaker 3: will go to break, says Dave. Please tell Mike Pushkin
• 45:34
Speaker 3: to relax. America finally has a competent president in the
• 45:37
Speaker 3: White House. Democrats are done in West Virginia and moving
• 45:40
Speaker 3: that way in the whole USA.
• 45:41
  Speaker 5: Thanks.
• 45:42
Speaker 14: I'm relaxed. I'm just concerned. I'm concerned about the person

Speaker 14: that sent that text. It's going to hurt them too.

• 48:45
  Speaker 5: That's completely untrue.
• 48:46
Speaker 14: Ken Martin's a grassroots organizer, came up through the Paul

Speaker 14: had in his home state, which wasn't always a given

• 49:01
Speaker 14: They have majorities in their House and there in their Senate.
• 49:05
Speaker 14: They have of course governor walls, and they've been able

• 49:16

• 49:20
Speaker 14: Ken Martin is definitely not on the take from big corporations.
• 49:25
  Speaker 8: Uh.
• 49:25
Speaker 3: Texas Congress has the power of the purse. Actually it's
• 49:27
Speaker 3: a House of Representatives, not Senate. But where was the
• 49:30
Speaker 3: outrage over the power of the purse during the multiple
• 49:32
Speaker 3: times Biden unconstitutionally for gay student loans over and over again,
• 49:35
Speaker 3: even after both the Supreme Court and Nancy Pelosi told
• 49:38
Speaker 3: him he did not have the power or authority to
• 49:40
Speaker 3: do so. The faux outrage is tired and played out. Oh,
• 49:43
Speaker 3: freezing spending ends taxpayer funded DEI programs in other countries.
• 49:47
Speaker 3: How funny that you leave that out, says the text.
• 49:50
Speaker 5: Okay, we'll start at the beginning. First of you rollback
• 49:52
  Speaker 5: to tape.
• 49:53
Speaker 14: It's exactly what I said, that the power of the
• 49:55
Speaker 14: purse resides in the House of Representatives, and it has
• 49:57
Speaker 14: decided and it goes through the Senate through conference committees
• 50:00
Speaker 14: where they also have to approve it as well. Either way,
• 50:02
Speaker 14: it's unconstitutional what Trump is doing as far as student loans. Yeah,
• 50:06
Speaker 14: I agree with the with President Biden. So our young
• 50:09
Speaker 14: adult shouldn't be starting off life in debt. I think
• 50:12
Speaker 14: most people agree with that. And I will always be
• 50:14
Speaker 14: on the side of working people over the sides of
• 50:17
Speaker 14: the big money lenders. And so if you take the
• 50:21
Speaker 14: opposite side of that, who really benefits from that, the
• 50:23
  Speaker 14: big banks.
• 50:24
Speaker 5: I'd rather be on the side of the people.
• 50:26
Speaker 14: But Dave, that's the last part of the question about diversity, equity,
• 50:29
  Speaker 14: and inclusion.
• 50:30
Speaker 3: If you're against that, you're not here for uh, you know,
• 50:32
Speaker 3: for uniformity, inequity, and exclusion. So that's what that's what
• 50:37
Speaker 3: that actually means, And it's not always about what you
• 50:39
Speaker 3: think it's about. It also means about hiring West Virginians
• 50:42
Speaker 3: and it means bringing people out of poverty. It means
• 50:45
Speaker 3: hiring people from certain socioeconomic backgrounds like.
• 50:48
Speaker 14: We have a lot of here in West Virginia. So
• 50:50
Speaker 14: when you cut these programs, who you're really gonna hurt.
• 50:53
Speaker 14: You're gonna hurt poor working class West Virginians.

Speaker 3: All right, quickly, on this situation with the delegate out
• 51:06
Speaker 3: of the Eastern Panhandle, where do we stand on that?
• 51:08
  Speaker 5: This week?
• 51:09
Speaker 14: So we filed a new like last week, it seems
• 51:12
Speaker 14: like it was a year ago, we filed a new
• 51:14
Speaker 14: petition with the Supreme Court. We removed Speaker Handshaw from
• 51:17
Speaker 14: the petition because he abused an old statute says you
• 51:22
Speaker 14: can't take somebody to court during the session, even though
• 51:24
Speaker 14: the session starts on Wednesday, mister speaker. But so we
• 51:28
Speaker 14: just went ahead and removed him from the petition. We
• 51:31
Speaker 14: just named the governor and the petition, and tomorrow is
• 51:34
Speaker 14: the deadline for the governor to respond. I think the
• 51:36
Speaker 14: law is very clear. There was a law that they
• 51:39
Speaker 14: passed back in twenty eighteen that says the vacancy will
• 51:42
Speaker 14: be filled by the party that of the one who
• 51:46
Speaker 14: created the vacancy. The subject the officeholder was in immediately
• 51:51
Speaker 14: prior to the vacancy being created, and he switched to
• 51:55
Speaker 14: the Democratic Party. All and so you say we should
• 51:57
Speaker 14: get to fill that seat, and we put up a
• 51:59
Speaker 14: list of three highly qualified, competent candidates for that seat,
• 52:03
Speaker 14: and we expect the governor to follow the law and
• 52:07
Speaker 14: choose from that list.
• 52:08
Speaker 3: Is it going to end, I like in over the
• 52:10
Speaker 3: next twenty four hours, or are we.
• 52:11
Speaker 14: Going to get I think the people of that district
• 52:13
Speaker 14: deserve to have some sort of answers there. Of course,
• 52:15
Speaker 14: the governor made the wrong decision, picked from the wrong list.
• 52:18
Speaker 14: We feel the vacancy was created in an unconstitutional and
• 52:21
Speaker 14: unlawful manner, and I will see where it goes.
• 52:23
Speaker 5: We just want the Republicans to follow the law.
• 52:26
