- 0:33I'm so drunk. Bosh, I'll cut it.
- 0:43Oh man, this is such a great choice.
- 0:45This is how you I was gonna say. I'm glad they avoided the
- 0:48obvious double entendre with the it's just a small jab and then
- 0:51you won't and then over excuse me.
- 0:55I said something to you earlier, right?
- 0:56That is absolutely worthy. I said I have a blow on a kazoo
- 0:59ready. Now there's a when Barry Cryer
- 1:04died people some people pushing on and clips of him in various
- 1:08programs and Of them was with Kenny Everett, he wrote a lot of
- 1:11Kenya with Kenny Everett was material.
- 1:14And there's this this bit and the person who put it on, said
- 1:18you can tell that they're both going.
- 1:20Yes, this is a terrible gag and no, we don't care.
- 1:23And so it's Kenny Everett is lying in a hospital bed and very
- 1:26cry comes out with the enormous syringe and he says, don't worry
- 1:30mr. Everett, it's just a little
- 1:32prick and he says, yes, I know you are, but what are you going
- 1:34to look at the camera? That's a great joke unless you
- 1:42do Rob my street. Okay I'm good for water and
- 1:50things. Do you need to get like I might
- 1:53grab another coffee between 2:00 and 3:00 is your intro?
- 1:58Yes, pressure, but I'm going to count you in.
- 2:02I four, three, two, welcome back to a hamster with a bump in.
- 2:08Doctor Who come free podcast where Joe and I are in Atlantis.
- 2:13We are Lucy. How many of these are you done
- 2:15now? This is your fault is lit.
- 2:17So yeah, where have we been so far?
- 2:19Well, we went to somewhere in East Anglia where there was a
- 2:24very flat landscape or very flat landscape freak.
- 2:27Weather conditions, forgive me, but a gigantic asshole coming
- 2:31out of the beach. This is true and you're and
- 2:33scary duvet covers. Oh my God.
- 2:35That was a bit of a weird story as well.
- 2:37And now look, are you doing all the weird ones?
- 2:38It's ultimately go next. And then after that we had we
- 2:44did the visitation. Oh, that's a bit less.
- 2:46Weird a bit more. Yeah and then we did School
- 2:50reunions. Oh yes, our Sera Jey returning.
- 2:54How wonderful and now we're here I mean we've been all over the
- 2:58place. I'm fascinated to find out where
- 3:00we're going next you know that's yet to be determined, isn't it
- 3:04is yes we'll find out the end of this for weeks.
- 3:08So we've watched the entirety of episode one via Teddy, snaps and
- 3:14I just very briefly. I've got men to ask you during
- 3:17the episode. Actually was taking Snaps, but
- 3:19I'm doing it now. And it's a strange Affair.
- 3:21But we as father's program are happy to sit and watch still
- 3:24pictures for half an hour. I don't find it that order, but
- 3:30then that might just be me. I don't know.
- 3:33I mean I I suppose in a way it's kind of like documentaries used
- 3:37to be where they would show you photographs and you'd hear a
- 3:39voice over talking in the background or there's a famous
- 3:43French science fiction film called ligeti, which is all
- 3:47still photographs with with the voice-over inspired, 12, Monkeys
- 3:54and other things. And it's about a it's about a
- 4:00man who is sort of post-apocalyptic future and
- 4:03people are a man is Back to the past in it's frightening, the
- 4:09bits that I've seen brightening and he's haunted by this idea of
- 4:13seeing somebody killed when he was a child.
- 4:15And of course, when he gets back to the past, the person who he
- 4:18saw give is himself, but that, that is told.
- 4:22So it's almost. So it feels like a documentary
- 4:24because you just see this succession of still images and
- 4:28the voice, the voice over is very calm and very measured, and
- 4:32it's really frightening a It sounds terrifying, but it's each
- 4:36short, it's a short film. But that that was very kind of,
- 4:40it's no different than a comic strip though, is it, which is a
- 4:42series of still images? I suppose the difference is, is
- 4:45this clear? That's, that's the big
- 4:48difference, but the other, and the other thing I suppose he's
- 4:51with, like, we were saying it, sometimes depending on what the
- 4:55pictures are, it's kind of difficult to gauge what's
- 4:57happening, because you can't see, you can see some of the
- 5:02action, but you can't see what's happening at that.
- 5:05When somebody's going, you don't exactly know what's going on.
- 5:09Well I mean I know the loose can Loose Cannon reconstruction is
- 5:13that they do? They do like Scrolls along that
- 5:16explains what's happening off screen and there's it cuts in
- 5:21where they've got the cine film and things like that.
- 5:24Some reason I don't know why this was a bit of a low effort
- 5:29DVD in that respect because they have they have done sore Recons
- 5:34and Actions, and things like that.
- 5:36Why would you imagine? They would leave the underwater
- 5:38Menace out of that Prestige number, but yet, because the
- 5:44wheel in space reconstruction, is it has the scrolling?
- 5:48Yeah. Storyline.
- 5:49Doesn't it on the water? I'm so many have been animated
- 5:52as well. So I'm surprised when they found
- 5:53this episode that I didn't do in animation and have it as a
- 5:56complete story. Well, I mean, we'll never know
- 6:00whenever I'm sure they had the right.
- 6:01I think this was the very last released come out and perhaps.
- 6:04The money had stopped, but they'd found the episode.
- 6:07So, they were like, okay, well, we're going to bring this.
- 6:09Yeah. And I mean it's it's a street
- 6:12would be a strain to watch an entire Adventure until it snaps
- 6:16and that would be a strain. Yeah, it's for the animation,
- 6:21came along that point, I think you'd sort of want to you just
- 6:24have to split the episode up or just listen to the soundtrack
- 6:27and hope you could figure out what was going on, but as it's
- 6:30like with this one, you've got sort of top and tail Telly, snap
- 6:33episodes. Okay, you haven't got the action
- 6:36of the big finale, but you've got live action in between.
- 6:39So and this is kind of like a says, Simple Story.
- 6:42This isn't it? It's not doing anything
- 6:44incredibly complex. There's not new ones
- 6:46characterization who was something like the massacre.
- 6:49You're missing a lot by not seeing what's on the script.
- 6:52Whereas here you're kind of missing the visuals but you can
- 6:55follow the story. Yes II.
- 6:58I've told this story a million times.
- 6:59I'm going to bore you with it, but essentially every partner
- 7:02I've had has taken the piss. Now, the fireball, I sit there
- 7:05watching still pictures with a soundtrack over it and saying,
- 7:09you know, this is this is the true extent of your love for
- 7:11Doctor Who that you're willing to you know, go to these
- 7:14lengths. And finally with somebody now
- 7:16who actually says to me let's watch a load of still pictures
- 7:19and soundtrack over. It was wonderful.
- 7:25Anyway, I'm sorry. No I was just looking up.
- 7:28Legit a to make sure I got the plot right.
- 7:29It was 1962. So a prisoner is sent back
- 7:37survivors of world war three live underground and scientists
- 7:42research, time travel. So they send him back and he has
- 7:48an obsessive memory of a woman. He seen on an observation
- 7:51platform before witnessing a startling accident, he knew.
- 7:54He'd seen a man die. So he goes back.
- 7:59Yeah. And then Office, is he
- 8:04successful passage to the Past experimented attempt to send him
- 8:08to the far future. And he goes back and fears that
- 8:14he's going to be killed and then he's contacted by the people of
- 8:18the future who offer to help him escape to their time
- 8:21permanently. But he asked to be sent back to
- 8:24his childhood, hoping to find the woman that he saw at the
- 8:26airport and it occurs to him that the child version of
- 8:29himself is probably there at the same time and he arrives back
- 8:34and sees an agent of the people he's been working for and they
- 8:38kill him. Well I thought Was like
- 8:41experiencing the film. But that synopsis is bloody
- 8:43chilling. I'm tentatively.
- 8:45Yeah, that's terrific. How is where can I get it?
- 8:51But I'm gonna watch it. I think it's on.
- 8:53I think it's on BFI player. Oh, is it really?
- 8:58Yeah, everybody out there listening.
- 9:00Get was it called again. Lozier T Leisure.
- 9:03What does that mean? The leap literally all those
- 9:06yet. Oh yeah.
- 9:08What are you? Stop wasting your time with the
- 9:09underwater. Many.
- 9:10This and go. Alright, alright.
- 9:15Well, should we leap into moving pieces of episode?
- 9:18Two are kind of in this tight shot.
- 9:20Okay, five, four, three, two, one.
- 9:26And off we go. Hey, do you think the three
- 9:31companions is too many companions?
- 9:33I've asked a lot of people this question, not necessarily, but I
- 9:38think it depends on the companions because I was
- 9:41thinking about this with Ben and Jamie and Polly and trying to
- 9:44sort of put my finger on, what, what sort of what I didn't think
- 9:48quite worked about this one. And I think it's partly that
- 9:52Polly is sort of pushed into the girl in peril.
- 9:57Well yeah well and also that Jamie and sorry just is woman
- 10:02panting on the screen no subtitles.
- 10:09He's partly also that Jamie and Ben are supposed to I think
- 10:15supposed to be similar age and they're both sort of young men.
- 10:19Been is a sailor. Jamie was a fighter in the Army.
- 10:24So you've got to kind of although they're not similar He
- 10:27was, they are similar type so to speak.
- 10:30So they get sent off down the mines together and pulling your
- 10:35separated. Whereas, with the the three that
- 10:39you had originally, you've got Ian and Barbara and Susan who
- 10:44were all and then Vicki who are very different to each, all very
- 10:47different to each other. What about grammar as Yasin
- 10:53Ryan? I haven't watched many of those
- 10:56of their Adventures so I don't really know.
- 10:58I know you quite like Tegan. That's Sara and adric.
- 11:01Yeah, the well they were my first told his team so they're
- 11:03kind of like my standard for what told these teams were very
- 11:08distinct on those free. Very different people.
- 11:10Yeah yeah, yeah. Well I think what does work
- 11:13here? Even if on I agree with you I
- 11:15think something doesn't quite jell completely.
- 11:18What does work is the History between them at their best when.
- 11:21Yeah. Yeah.
- 11:23I mean there's a big there's a weird but in the Moonbase you
- 11:26know where Ben and Jerry's not fighting over Polly.
- 11:29Hmm. It gets a bit aggressive and I'm
- 11:31like, are we going there? Yeah.
- 11:33But then they decided, then obviously somebody said, you
- 11:35know what, no, it's always been and Polly, isn't it?
- 11:39Come on. Yeah.
- 11:39Oh yeah, it was upsetting about him.
- 11:41He's always obsessing about finding these Duchess, yes,
- 11:44exactly. It's a lovely.
- 11:46Oh, look at this. Lovely set this.
- 11:49Yeah, see them for real. Yep.
- 11:51So does our, the doctor is sort of snooping snooping around do
- 11:55and looking at things and raising his eyebrows over
- 11:57people's shoulders and sort of. But whilst he's flattering
- 12:01Zaroff, I noticed. He sabotages equipment.
- 12:05Yeah. These pave Polly picking things
- 12:07up and so Damon. Now calling jevons is coming to
- 12:11complain that the lights keep going out and the doctors just
- 12:14pulled a fuse or something out and he's doing that kind of
- 12:16Schoolboy thing these finger and he's licked I can't think how I
- 12:20managed to do that. It's sort of like apologetic for
- 12:23like we know you meant to do that, it's great.
- 12:28And it's a kind of needs as well even if this is a bit Tatty, the
- 12:33script, the characterization of the doctors, great, yeah.
- 12:36Oh yeah, yeah. And he's still, he hasn't Zaroff
- 12:40isn't entirely sure at this point, whether whether the
- 12:45doctor he's an idiot or not, you know, whether how much of it
- 12:47he's putting on Laughing Zaroff starts off a little bit.
- 12:51Like I'm normal cuz there's nothing normal about him, but
- 12:55he's not some sort of feeling the doctor out.
- 12:57Doesn't have like like yes. Yeah.
- 12:59And then when he realizes, you know, obviously he's like the
- 13:02best of mind, he tells him is insane plan.
- 13:04It starts going bang, bang, you know, but I think there's only
- 13:12one other performers in Doctor Who you know, where every single
- 13:15line sounds as unnatural. Because 0 and that is traced
- 13:20from Nightmare of Eden. Yeah, I've wondered about trust
- 13:24whether he was supposed to be a send-up of like a tea.
- 13:27There were a couple of TV naturalist in the I think late
- 13:3360s and 70s called Hanson Latios and they were a husband and
- 13:37wife, I think team of Television naturalist and I've heard on,
- 13:44oh, round the horn, the radio show, that Kenneth Williams and
- 13:49You panic any Contour? Yeah, people impersonating them
- 13:52and sort of sending up that kind of their accents and the way
- 13:56they talked about things, I wondered if tryst with Ava needs
- 13:59to be told because it wasn't it was much later on than they were
- 14:02on the Telly. So but I wondered if that was
- 14:05kind of what he was aiming for I always wondered if perhaps like
- 14:09if he was going to play with that called accent.
- 14:11Yeah the that was all a ruse and then when he's revealed that
- 14:16he's actually quite oh he drops that terrible accident.
- 14:18Actually, he's just a new one. Whereas all open, there's any
- 14:21layers like that to try to, they're off.
- 14:24Don't be worried. If you dig deep, I'm not sure
- 14:26you're going to find too much, you know.
- 14:29The nose are also about to tell him that the doctor is saying,
- 14:34you can't possibly dig to the Center of the Earth and drain
- 14:36the ocean away. I mean, I read that, just what I
- 14:41was listening to her. I was like really in awe of all
- 14:47the insane plans. I've heard from Bond and Doctor
- 14:50Who and Star Trek and was I mean this is the maddest.
- 14:54Yes. And he's breaking off because he
- 14:55was interrupted while feeding his pet octopus, whatever is in
- 14:59the tank it's supposed to be a pill to put explosive fabulous
- 15:02sometimes idea but you know it's so crazy is even got that little
- 15:06map where he pulls the plug out and the water.
- 15:08Yeah the apple. And now that now the doctor is
- 15:13attempting to find out. It's precisely how bunkers are
- 15:17off. Actually is It might blow the
- 15:20planet apart. What I love?
- 15:22Oh no, it's one of those, it's a fish in Fish or something.
- 15:25Yes. Hey, pretty.
- 15:28If that's, I love it when he's interrupted and he says, can't
- 15:30you see? I'm talking to my friend and he
- 15:32had obviously the doctor he's talking about the fish.
- 15:36You can tell he's a complete Gaga because he's staring off
- 15:40camera. Looking with that look in his
- 15:41eye zealous gleam and the doctors is just very gently.
- 15:47Why do you want? Or not.
- 15:49What does he say in a minute? Like you are mad you know you're
- 15:53mad or something like that. They possibly hope he was to
- 15:57destroy the entire world as the apotheosis of his great work.
- 16:02Yes. So this is a minor version of If
- 16:08you had in your hat and a virus that would destroy all life.
- 16:12Would you do it? Yes.
- 16:15The doctor says, why do you want to block the world?
- 16:18And he's like basically because he can because he can't ya
- 16:24because he's completely insane. Oh, now this pair I wasn't sure
- 16:30this pair about, you know, Jaco and Sean.
- 16:33Yes. You got like, a Jamaican guy and
- 16:37an Irish guy. That's was quite nice.
- 16:39I like it for the diversity, but like, they sort of in their sort
- 16:45of your stock standard Rebel characters, aren't they that?
- 16:49Yeah, this supposed to be they're meant to be sort of
- 16:51Shipwrecked Sailors, aren't they?
- 16:53That they have been kidnapped by the atlanteans various points
- 16:59and this is down in the performance, I think.
- 17:02Oh yeah. But I don't think there's much
- 17:04to the Like they're, you know, they're not, but I think, I
- 17:08think this is a bit more than I think.
- 17:10The actors possibly put more in there.
- 17:12Was written in them. Maybe they're effectively
- 17:16drummer Space, Museum, Jumbo's hunt.
- 17:19Or does Iran's it serums? Yeah, I mean, I can't remember
- 17:23them at all. Where it's at least, these are a
- 17:25little bit memorable. Yeah, they're at their actual
- 17:27people. Yeah, they team one off with Ben
- 17:30and one off with Jamie. And that's too little subplots
- 17:33going on. Yes, which is quite nice.
- 17:37I'm Lisa. I bet he's looking very handsome
- 17:39you know and I know he is yes I also like the look there's a
- 17:43guard looking over there points a lot trouble with this set.
- 17:48You know they've got a lot of reflective surfaces going on
- 17:50here. There's a camera in there, you
- 17:52know. Oh, look at this.
- 17:55Fellow coming in trying to be all serious with his massive
- 17:57eyebrows. Yeah, this is done though.
- 17:59She's calling Kevin's back again.
- 18:01Saying the girl is escaped and the doctor says they're very
- 18:04important to you, isn't it? I mean, you want all the human
- 18:06labor you can get, don't you? And he says, well two can play
- 18:10at that game if you see this. And what's interesting is this
- 18:14looks like it's going down the route.
- 18:17Sort of episode. 3, of that old are going to incite a
- 18:19revolution. With the Frist fish people are
- 18:22gonna stop the food stores and you think, okay?
- 18:25So I can see how this is going to end.
- 18:26Now they're going to overthrows are off the fish, people will be
- 18:29free and happy days. I don't go that way.
- 18:32It's whole. The whole of my land is goes
- 18:34under yes. Which we kind of know is going
- 18:38to happen. Open.
- 18:39Well, further under it's already under, but literally, it's going
- 18:44under, isn't it? Yes.
- 18:45Yes, absolutely submerged. Well, I do want to talk about
- 18:48that when we get there because those still show that there was
- 18:52a bit of Destruction going on with us, a lot of water.
- 18:55Yes. What do you think about this
- 18:58sad? The the temple.
- 19:02Are they just threw everything at it?
- 19:03Didn't they? It's big, isn't it?
- 19:05Yeah. Oh yeah, yes, it looks like it
- 19:08actually looks like A large space, doesn't it?
- 19:10And the sort of camera goes quite far back at time so sort
- 19:13of depth to it and they fill it with smoke during the
- 19:17ceremonies. I just love that zeref can sort
- 19:20of Mastermind exploding the planet and making underwater
- 19:25nuclear power stations, but he can't invent a fridge.
- 19:31That's a good boy. Now I'm hope I think in there
- 19:35there's they're shooting the audience is not going to be
- 19:37thinking about things like that, all right.
- 19:39But it didn't start voted by out the office.
- 19:41It's it occurred to me I'm reading is horrible Plankton
- 19:47yes. Have you ever tried Plankton?
- 19:50Not knowingly, know I can't love myself so much.
- 19:54It's a bit less seaweed you know, just a bit simply.
- 19:58I mean, I'll take it over starving.
- 20:00Yeah, there we go. That's what people are supposed
- 20:04to be eating in Soylent. Green, isn't it?
- 20:06And it turns out to be something else, is it people?
- 20:10Oh, that's where revelation of the Daleks gets this close from
- 20:13as and it actually doesn't that drop right in the last scene of
- 20:16Soylent. Green like right?
- 20:17Yeah, absolutely does. Yeah.
- 20:18He's apparently, the novel. It was based on the foodstuff is
- 20:24he's actually made from Plankton and Other things.
- 20:30But in the film, they went fully apocalyptic and yeah.
- 20:35Ends with Charlton. Heston just screaming Soylent.
- 20:38Green is people my God. That one last chilling as well.
- 20:42Was it? You want to give people
- 20:43nightmares but could you put up a little ways?
- 20:52Well, thank you very much. Lucy is currently holding up or
- 20:57Willie Jay? And he's cute as hell.
- 20:59I'll tell ya, I got a bit as he anywhere in a quick kill.
- 21:06Yeah, I caught that mostly looks like it's top of either so he's
- 21:08naked. No, it's jumper.
- 21:10Okay, jumper. So and obviously this isn't
- 21:18really the Jamie we set upon eventually is it.
- 21:21He's he's a bit naive at this point and he's doing a bit of a
- 21:25weird accent as well. I think it's he yeah, I don't
- 21:29know whether it's the writing or the direction that sort of
- 21:33because the accent his accent does It a little lighter,
- 21:38doesn't it? Whether whether it was, I mean,
- 21:42presumably with the Highlanders, they would have been asked to
- 21:47have strong island accents. Not being very familiar with the
- 21:54Highland accent. I can't sort of speak to its
- 21:56authenticity but Frozen Hines mother is is pot Scottish okay
- 22:03yes I didn't know that yes his mother is or was Scottish I
- 22:08certainly think he's accent as he plays.
- 22:10It sounds authentic enough. What I think so.
- 22:12Yeah, well, he knew he knew what an actual Scottish accent.
- 22:15Should sound like? So and went from their basic,
- 22:19but then there's the writing as well.
- 22:21So if the writing tell you, Say something in a certain way.
- 22:24Well, he hadn't been in it long enough to say they write them as
- 22:29a historical character for a bit and then they just fight him as
- 22:32a character. Yeah, you know, who's he's used
- 22:35to these kind of Adventures at this character here at era.
- 22:38Yeah. She's really sweet.
- 22:40I really like her. Yes, she's great.
- 22:43She's very bright on the special features right as she goes home.
- 22:47And she goes that thing I was in she goes, he was absolutely
- 22:51Bonkers was little It's crazy because I got me dressed up at
- 22:54the tail and shells and thanks. Yeah, but she carries it.
- 22:58Well, then she cheat you. She makes her a believable
- 23:01character. They see too much and I should
- 23:04cosplay with one of those High priests hats.
- 23:07I think that would depend where you were going.
- 23:09I think I could pull it off, you know, down a gay club.
- 23:14We definitely have to go in the darkling.
- 23:16So there's there's all these sort of Rumblings here, so he's
- 23:20the chief scientist and he the high priest talking about zarab
- 23:24and they're not sure about him. Are they like, you know, no will
- 23:28do Damon. He's getting fed up with him
- 23:30because he thinks he's he's work is being sidelined in Aid of the
- 23:35big project and he may be having doubts about the big project and
- 23:39the high priest who is actually despite wanting to throw. people
- 23:44to shocks a fairly person who sort of ease, He's wants the
- 23:53wants the best for way. He's Batman.
- 23:54Doesn't trust his hair off and then you've obviously got King
- 24:00vows. Is that a?
- 24:01Yes. Yes.
- 24:03And so and he's got his own opinions.
- 24:04Well we're not sure about where is Lord is lies until the end of
- 24:07episode 3. We learn in a very big way who
- 24:10is siding with and then you've got era and this, I'm just
- 24:15saying there's a lot of characters and they different
- 24:18functions. So there is an attempt to build
- 24:21a society I say yes. Yeah.
- 24:23As mad as it is. It's yes, there is an attempt to
- 24:29I'm not as I give it a sense of realism because hello.
- 24:36But I think there's like, you know, power games and oh, yeah,
- 24:40yeah, there's a sense of sort of the, the kind of the hierarchy
- 24:44than Janeiro's obviously fairly near the bottom of that because
- 24:47she's skinny and cleaning tables and being ordered about and
- 24:51called girl. You imagine there's a Scenic
- 24:54crew behind their smoking 20, Benson's making that switch.
- 24:59There's a lot coming out. They look all that is.
- 25:05Tribal kvar, isn't it? I think that's what they were
- 25:09aiming for. Yes, which is interesting as
- 25:11well because it doesn't take the route of Making it look.
- 25:20Ancient Greek or from the islands, does it the Greek
- 25:23Islands it time? Monster dolls.
- 25:25Does? Yes.
- 25:26Yeah. Yeah, that's true.
- 25:28This is a proper mishmash. This is what I do really like
- 25:32the mixture of like the scientific sets and like the
- 25:36Atlantis sets? Yes.
- 25:38I think, I think it's a nice weird sort of juxtaposition.
- 25:42Yes. Oh, this is great this saying,
- 25:45well, that's the pot on the heat.
- 25:48Yeah. Do you know why, though?
- 25:50I think this is a really simple visual to explain to the kids
- 25:53watching. Yes.
- 25:55Know what could happen? Zero gets his way.
- 26:01I think you should ever forget the kids, you know, no I think
- 26:05this script ever does. And you know of course he's the
- 26:11most anarchic of doctors. Yes, this is our is going to
- 26:15demonstrate it by an exploding pot.
- 26:17Yes, but then he says I think we should stand a little further
- 26:20back. Yeah, he intends to raise
- 26:24Atlantis but in little pieces well I thought I might mention
- 26:30it, of course if you don't mind being blown up seatrout flicking
- 26:35for your script, kind of already got a sell this.
- 26:40He does though, doesn't he? And that's, that's the madness
- 26:43of this. Is he read us?
- 26:46Yeah, it's a like a magic, isn't it?
- 26:48Yeah. Oh yeah, I think something that
- 26:50Toby Halo said to me when we did the Silence of the library
- 26:54Forest of the Dead commentary is a lot of dogs who is ridiculous.
- 26:58And this is ridiculous on another level.
- 27:01But the sort of the drama and the horror comes from how well
- 27:07the actors sell it. It.
- 27:09Mmm boy. Do they sell it here?
- 27:11Oh yeah. Especially Joseph first, what?
- 27:21Okay, a lot of They Don't Really probing very much here.
- 27:24What do you want? You imagine occurred in zeref's
- 27:26childhood to send him down this path.
- 27:29I have no idea who refused to government granted some pot.
- 27:35Yeah, I recognize most of the others.
- 27:37I like to think that all these madmen and dogs who like morga
- 27:40some people are. They've all got these in your
- 27:42insane domineering mothers and that would never The, my hog,
- 27:46you know. So they always desperate to
- 27:48impress them. There was a definite thing in
- 27:51the 70s, wasn't there about people having been turned down
- 27:54for funding and getting angry about it like what's-his-name
- 27:58Whitaker and look, yeah, you remember when they pulled his
- 28:02funding and he goes completely. So I guess.
- 28:05Yeah. Is this not on film now?
- 28:08Because this looks looks slightly different, doesn't it?
- 28:12It's got a sort of soft look about it.
- 28:14Yeah, But, you know, I've not seen anything.
- 28:17Yeah. Visually that, I would be
- 28:20embarrassed to show anybody. I think.
- 28:22I think it all looks rather good.
- 28:23I think the, the embarrassment comes in episode free with the
- 28:26dance of the fish. People, if you've got, if you've
- 28:30gone down that road you have to keep going.
- 28:32Don't you can't look. But yeah, I think the sets.
- 28:35The sets look like actual spaces, don't know.
- 28:39The lab looks like allowed the temple.
- 28:41Looks like a physical room space.
- 28:45Not sure about some of the Rocks.
- 28:47I wonder if you like, you know. But look, we've got this script,
- 28:50right. Let's just for a bit of money, I
- 28:51make it look as good as possible.
- 28:53Well, they tried and they really did.
- 28:55Yeah, it's for everything at it. Have you ever been to the
- 28:58ballet? Yes.
- 29:00Have you ever seen anything like the dance of the fish people?
- 29:03No Chuckles. Believe you said, yes.
- 29:09Is that what it's supposed to be as form of?
- 29:13I don't know, maybe it's More like synchronized swimming.
- 29:17Hola X2 Williams, those mermaid films that she used the the
- 29:20underwater swimming lady obviously under water.
- 29:26I mean, we're not there yet. What what is that on that altar?
- 29:29They craps or simply no idea or the low a big shells anyway and
- 29:35that marvelous that door that's right next to the face?
- 29:38Yes. I want to see support when it
- 29:40opens all the time and the high priest, the high priest.
- 29:46I never noticed you see that Polly went boo.
- 29:53They are really fun together. That's why I like it.
- 29:55Holly Bell and Jaime, and they don't get a lot of time doing
- 29:59it. What is it?
- 29:59It's this Mac. No moon base macro Terror, and
- 30:03then a few episodes of The Faceless ones, and that's it.
- 30:05Yeah. Yeah, I think I think the actors
- 30:11work well together, although I think there was a little bit of
- 30:14tension there with Frasier Hines, coming in because then
- 30:18suddenly the lions are all being divvied up.
- 30:21Yeah. Between between them.
- 30:23Well, does trout not liking that?
- 30:25I don't know. But I love how delighted his
- 30:27doctor is to dress up all the time as well and it is.
- 30:31Yeah, like give me the Hat Ladies and here comes place it.
- 30:35Where is that? Seaweed In the background, the
- 30:39gulls were in seaweed possibly. Yes.
- 30:41Concise like see what is this? Insanity.
- 30:46It's at 90 seats Under the Sea. Supposedly, of course, they're
- 30:50wearing seaweed, then, you know, it's perfectly logical and here
- 30:55is Charles Grover. Yes.
- 30:59Oh, you should, you should have thrown a quiz question at me,
- 31:01right? Yeah, with very different
- 31:04performances. Hmm.
- 31:07But I don't think he's over playing this role.
- 31:12No, it's slightly. It's a little one.
- 31:15There's nothing about this. That isn't all these, they
- 31:18really but but it's kind of detached in a peculiar way some
- 31:23of it. Yeah, Jenna.
- 31:25I feel. He's a bit more committed to
- 31:27grovel. I think so that he feels like a
- 31:30sort of real grounded person. Yeah, the source.
- 31:34Well, I suppose this more about that than this one.
- 31:37Kind of reality to grab onto about that.
- 31:39Isn't it? What you talking about?
- 31:43We love these bits. The professor, he's as mad as a
- 31:45Hatter. No Claude.
- 31:46He said no answer sad. Yeah, that's what I thought I
- 31:54was lines, is reading going. Okay, I cannot do this right.
- 31:59But mind, you know, see I could ask you to give the most
- 32:01committed performance in the world, you know, I'll shove
- 32:03those enormous eyebrows on you. You'd have a bit.
- 32:06Yes, is true. Yes, Yes.
- 32:07Yeah, I'm making it the costume fitting there was quite a bit of
- 32:12well, no he is doing a bit of that sort of called
- 32:14Shakespearean a stood up, denisov.
- 32:17Grant I am your Superior Ramo. Leave me great bit.
- 32:23Doesn't it episode 3? Do with them.
- 32:25What you will? Meaning, I want to say that my
- 32:30whole life. I don't know if you saw you do
- 32:34but I put out to Twitter as they are video of me, just Quoting
- 32:37their off, like a madman. I don't want to see that all my
- 32:40life as well. I'll look at Polly, wanted to
- 32:44dress up now. Yes, And why wouldn't you?
- 32:48She looks great in this show costume.
- 32:52And actually, this is the second story in a row where they give
- 32:54her a like a female, another female character to kind of bond
- 32:59with. Yeah.
- 33:00Well, that's the thing is that you've got the two male
- 33:02characters, Jamie, and Baton, and then this pulley.
- 33:05So it's because there's sort of a similar age to each other.
- 33:11Presumably in the, in the writing, it's it's, it's like 2
- 33:16+ 1 or 2 + 1 or 2. You'd it's difficult to do.
- 33:21You remember how appalling she was towards Kirsty?
- 33:25And the Highlanders, I haven't seen the Highlanders.
- 33:29Oh, she's awful. And it's really leaning that
- 33:32sort of class divide, because Polly supposed to be sort of
- 33:35upper middle, isn't she? Yeah, she is.
- 33:37Yeah, and cursed, he's obviously a bit of a primitive of Scottish
- 33:42and she calls her, like an ignorant, savage and stuff.
- 33:45Like, yeah, it's really, it's quite Josh oh it ended.
- 33:49What happened? The the king gave his answer and
- 33:53that was to turn. The motors are off always had
- 33:56that wonderful bit of that of walks in and looks Ruth mug.
- 33:59Yes. What you think about these
- 34:03Cliffhanger so far? I think they work fine.
- 34:07I don't ya like do you okay, let me have no allies Praises.
- 34:13Do you prefer a cliffhanger when it's like a moment of Jeopardy
- 34:19or do you prefer a cliffhanger when it's like a hinge in the
- 34:22plot. So it's like a plot twist or
- 34:25here and I tell me like that, I think I could be really tedious
- 34:30and say either. But I mean, I'm used, I'm
- 34:33accustomed to moments of Jeopardy because that's what it
- 34:36was like watching when I was a kid.
- 34:39And yeah, it would be a moment of Jeopardy.
- 34:41And you be like, well happening, we've got to wait until tomorrow
- 34:45or next week or whenever it was to find out what's going to
- 34:47happen, but I don't mind them being sort of.
- 34:51Now, I'm a bit, I think when I was younger, I would probably
- 34:54preferred moments of Jeopardy because it's more exciting.
- 34:57And then you're like, What's gonna happen next.
- 35:00And but with sort of being a bit old and being older now I think
- 35:06I don't mind that if it's like something that's Developing the
- 35:10claw into the next bit because you're still wondering what's
- 35:13going to happen next. Yeah, I think you owe your I
- 35:17think as a child, the excitement of the Jeopardy we are after
- 35:21really as an adult are now I like it when the narrative
- 35:25wanders off a bit like do I always saw that one at the end
- 35:29of episode 2 of secured if when he comes in and that's exactly
- 35:33what I should be asking you doctor and is Julian Glover back
- 35:36in time. You know what?
- 35:40Better than one right? Always a very Charming Man.
- 35:43He's fine. Well.
- 35:46Okay, we are heading now into what was the only surviving
- 35:52episode of the underwater Menace notoriously.
- 35:56So, Should we pop on another look?
- 36:01It's do that. We go boo.
