- 1:54Speaker 1: some Buffalo Bills O t as that are happening, uh
- 1:58Speaker 1: today and tomorrow Wednesday. I think off on Wednesday and
- 2:03Speaker 1: then back again on Thursday, and then tomorrow. OTA's happening
- 2:06Speaker 1: in the end of May a little bit in June.
- 2:08Speaker 1: We are starting to move towards real and meaningful football
- 2:14Speaker 1: for the Buffalo Bills as we get into OTAs and
- 2:16Speaker 1: then mandatory mini camp and training camp and the preseason
- 2:19Speaker 1: and then the regular season, and then we'll see what
- 2:22Speaker 1: the twenty twenty six season brings, which will be some joy,
- 2:26Speaker 1: some pain, much like the Buffalo Sabers contemplating not doing
- 2:31Speaker 1: the show tonight. Not to be dramatic, I'm still super
- 2:34Speaker 1: sad about the Sabers. I'm really frustrated.
- 2:36Speaker 2: It to lose is one thing.
- 2:38Speaker 1: To build up the hope and have it the on
- 2:42Speaker 1: just you could taste that victory.
- 2:44Speaker 2: They should have had that victory.
- 2:45Speaker 1: They outplayed Montreal in Game seven, and some calls just
- 2:49Speaker 1: didn't go their way and some bounces just didn't go
- 2:52Speaker 1: their way, as is unfortunately typical in most sports. But
- 2:57Speaker 1: especially for Buffalo sports. And yeah, so I kind of
- 3:00Speaker 1: don't feel like talking about sports or even though the
- 3:03Speaker 1: Bills and Savers are two different sports, I just want
- 3:05Speaker 1: to do anything with sports. I just want to sit
- 3:07Speaker 1: in a ball and cry. But alas we are here,
- 3:10Speaker 1: as r J says, yeah, apparently we are testing to
- 3:12Speaker 1: always have our hearts broken in the worst possible ways
- 3:15Speaker 1: by our sports teams.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Sports are pain. It is what it is.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Yeah, ar is pain, Kay Moore, I like your initial comments,
- 3:21Speaker 1: getting near saying three times, I will not get excited
- 3:23Speaker 1: by players looking good at shorts. I will not get
- 3:25Speaker 1: excited by players looking good at shorts. I will not
- 3:27Speaker 1: get excited by players looking good to shorts. Oh, James says,
- 3:30Speaker 1: some kidding every day fair Sean comes in and says,
- 3:33Speaker 1: Landon Jackson looks like an absolute unit. Yes, land and
- 3:37Speaker 1: Jackson does look like an absolute lote unit. We're going
- 3:40Speaker 1: to be talking about that.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Oh Kay.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Morris says, I'm deep in Montreal territory for hockey, New
- 3:44Speaker 1: England territory for football.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Please help me. Oh God, that God, God bless you.
- 3:50Speaker 1: That's that is rough, And he says, maybe the Bills
- 3:53Speaker 1: can make us feel a better, sure, yeah, maybe or
- 3:56Speaker 1: not again all jokes. As I if you're a fan
- 3:59Speaker 1: of any sports team, more often than not, you're probably
- 4:02Speaker 1: gonna be disappointed at the end of the year. The
- 4:04Speaker 1: odds of your one favorite team winning the championship title,
- 4:08Speaker 1: whatever it is, versus the entire field, the odds are
- 4:12Speaker 1: never in your favor, like the odds are going with
- 4:14Speaker 1: the field. What gets me for the Sabers and even
- 4:17Speaker 1: the Bills, it's not just like and it's what people
- 4:19Speaker 1: said before. It's not just the losing. It's like the
- 4:21Speaker 1: losing made into an art farm, art for art farm
- 4:24Speaker 1: and art form. It's the way that they lose, and
- 4:28Speaker 1: it's you just play all these moments in your head
- 4:31Speaker 1: and it's like, God, if any one of these moments
- 4:33Speaker 1: had gone our way, we would have won, we would
- 4:35Speaker 1: have advanced. And it just seems like they're constantly on
- 4:38Speaker 1: the other end of that discussion. But this is a
- 4:40Speaker 1: super successful season for the Sabers. It's just frustrating to
- 4:43Speaker 1: see it end the way that it did, or end
- 4:44Speaker 1: in general. But I'm excited for the future of the Sabers,
- 4:47Speaker 1: excited for the future.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Of the Bill.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Ah RJ says we can get Naden JP of the
- 4:52Speaker 1: program and just talk wrest like. I have contemplated that,
- 4:54Speaker 1: and I have talked to them about that. We've talked
- 4:56Speaker 1: about it on shows, We've talked about it offline in
- 5:00Speaker 1: dms and texts and things. I would not be opposed
- 5:02Speaker 1: to that idea at all. Just kind of masked the
- 5:04Speaker 1: pain with wrestling. That would be a good idea there. Okay,
- 5:07Speaker 1: Moy says, it's May and my Tchidishi Dragons are thirteen
- 5:10Speaker 1: games below five hundred and everything sucks. Baseball's dumb. I'm
- 5:13Speaker 1: a Red Sox fan. Baseball stupid sports are dumb. Sports
- 5:15Speaker 1: are just not fun. It's just not a good time,
- 5:17Speaker 1: not a good time. Oh and James said waiting to
- 5:19Speaker 1: get my heart broken by Syracuse, the Cross everything, everybody's
- 5:22Speaker 1: just falling apart. It's sad times right now for everybody.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Positive here from Roy. So the Sabers finally got to
- 5:28Speaker 1: the playoffs and made a good showing. Let's hope they
- 5:30Speaker 1: can keep it up next season. Yes, uh, I am
- 5:32Speaker 1: encouraged again. This was a really successful season for the Sabers,
- 5:35Speaker 1: turning it around getting the playoffs. Just fortunately the way
- 5:39Speaker 1: it went. Yes, Aunt P says someone six you know,
- 5:41Speaker 1: it's like another no goal. Yeah, kind of Mountain Stein,
- 5:46Speaker 1: Like the whistle blows early when the puck is still loose,
- 5:49Speaker 1: so that goal doesn't count. Tage going for the toe
- 5:52Speaker 1: drag instead of the past to Benny, or even a
- 5:54Speaker 1: shot in ot, a stupid turnover that leads to a
- 5:57Speaker 1: goal off of the puck, deflecting off of a Canadian's glove,
- 6:01Speaker 1: or sticking fluttering, just frustrating.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Yeas Noah says, nobody's beating Colorado, I don't.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think the Sapers are gonna get
- 6:08Speaker 1: past Carolina in the Eastern Conference finals, but.
- 6:12Speaker 2: You know it is. It is frustrating overall.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think they were gonna get past Carolina.
- 6:17Speaker 1: If they did get past Carolina, I don't think they
- 6:18Speaker 1: were gonna get past Colorado.
- 6:19Speaker 2: But I don't care.
- 6:20Speaker 1: I would have taken the victory, especially with how I
- 6:22Speaker 1: really grew to just hate the Canadians as a team
- 6:24Speaker 1: as that series went on. Just all the dirty Like
- 6:28Speaker 1: there's difference between playing hard and playing dirty. I thought
- 6:30Speaker 1: there was a lot of dirty stuff from the Canadians,
- 6:32Speaker 1: especially from Jack Guy, and then all the diving and flopping,
- 6:36Speaker 1: Like I just thought they played a really black brand
- 6:39Speaker 1: of hockey. They have a lot of skill, a lot
- 6:41Speaker 1: of talent, but I was really just turned.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Off from their team. Scott, appreciate you being here and
- 6:45Speaker 2: thank you very much for the super chat.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Scott says, Oh, let me ask you something. What a
- 6:51Speaker 1: Sports Analysm podcast analysts disrespect the Bills? They won the
- 6:54Speaker 1: AFC East forty years in a row. Seems like they're
- 6:57Speaker 1: nitpicking the Bills every year. Even even fan have lost faith.
- 7:00Speaker 1: I think you get to a certain point with a
- 7:03Speaker 1: team where if you don't get over the hump, you
- 7:10Speaker 1: kind of get written off a little bit or thought
- 7:13Speaker 1: less of. And I mean you even kind of you
- 7:15Speaker 1: can even.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Connect it back to, you know, the Bills in their
- 7:18Speaker 2: early nineties.
- 7:19Speaker 1: With the Super Bowls. They kept going to the Super
- 7:21Speaker 1: Bowls and everybody was kind of tired of the Bills.
- 7:24Speaker 1: It was like they're not going to do it, Like
- 7:25Speaker 1: can can somebody else just go to the Super Bowl
- 7:27Speaker 1: from the AFC, Like.
- 7:28Speaker 2: We're tired of this team going and losing.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Like everybody was kind of over the Bills as a fan,
- 7:33Speaker 1: as a football fan, that isn't in but that wasn't
- 7:36Speaker 1: in Buffalo, so I think I think fans and people
- 7:39Speaker 1: kind of an analyst, especially, you get to a point
- 7:42Speaker 1: of fatigue with a team when they're just constantly in
- 7:44Speaker 1: the running, but like don't ever win or don't ever
- 7:48Speaker 1: get over the final hump. And then I think you
- 7:51Speaker 1: can couple that with some changes, and you know, I
- 7:57Speaker 1: think it's easy to kind of doubt the Bills little
- 8:00Speaker 1: bit or just be fatigued by them and not want
- 8:01Speaker 1: to talk about them a little bit, whether it's a
- 8:03Speaker 1: national perspective or even from a fan based perpective, especially
- 8:05Speaker 1: with all the questions that are going on. But good question,
- 8:09Speaker 1: our good thought there, and think of the super chat.
- 8:11Speaker 1: R J says, you don't want to see the expected
- 8:13Speaker 1: goals for last night? Yeah one ish to forst.
- 8:15Speaker 2: In favor of the Sabers. Yeah, I don't. I don't
- 8:17Speaker 2: even I don't. I don't even want to.
- 8:21Speaker 1: So disappointing the Sabers. But now I'm not disappointing the Sabers.
- 8:25Speaker 1: I'm disappointing in the way the season ended. I'm very
- 8:27Speaker 1: proud of the Sabers. They had a great year. They
- 8:28Speaker 1: turned it around. Major kudos to them. They should be
- 8:32Speaker 1: in Eastern Conference finals right now. But alas it was
- 8:35Speaker 1: not meant to beople see what happens next year, same
- 8:37Speaker 1: thing for the Buffalbill, So see what happens next year,
- 8:38Speaker 1: And that next year is this year, meaning twenty twenty six.
- 8:42Speaker 1: And as I've talked about, I got a bunch of
- 8:44Speaker 1: deep dive content coming in the next i'd say, like
- 8:49Speaker 1: month or so, as we start to lead into you know,
- 8:50Speaker 1: because training camp usually starts middle ish endish of.
- 8:54Speaker 2: July, kind of somewhere around there.
- 8:58Speaker 1: So as we go forward here, like the end of May,
- 9:00Speaker 1: but especially in the June, I got a lot of
- 9:01Speaker 1: deep dives coming on, a lot of schematic stuff, league
- 9:05Speaker 1: wide trends, things the Bills are already dipping into or
- 9:07Speaker 1: tapping into, things they could dip into or tap into
- 9:10Speaker 1: a little bit more scheme and structure and the things
- 9:15Speaker 1: you've come to expect here on the show.
- 9:16Speaker 2: But I got a lot of.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Deep dives coming as we go forward here. This offseason
- 9:20Speaker 1: probably incorporated a bunch of film, even though YouTube is
- 9:23Speaker 1: really cracking down on anybody who does that, which is
- 9:27Speaker 1: really unfortunate. We'll see how that goes. But I got
- 9:29Speaker 1: a lot of deep dives coming forward here on the show.
- 9:33Speaker 1: But I thought this episode would be fun to kind
- 9:35Speaker 1: of just talk about some OTA aspects, some development, some
- 9:38Speaker 1: news couple pieces I didn't really I wasn't planning on
- 9:41Speaker 1: doing in this episode today in terms of like this topic.
- 9:45Speaker 1: But I saw some pieces that came out today during
- 9:47Speaker 1: OTA's and I thought they were notable because they connect
- 9:50Speaker 1: in a lot of ways to the deep Dive topics
- 9:52Speaker 1: we'll be getting into on this show going forward in
- 9:55Speaker 1: the coming months, and that tie into a bunch of
- 9:57Speaker 1: the pieces that we've been talking about this off season
- 10:00Speaker 1: on the show, schematically, structurally, individually, player standpoint, all these things.
- 10:05Speaker 1: So I am excited for what the you know, to
- 10:08Speaker 1: get into the meat of this offseason with those episodes.
- 10:11Speaker 2: As I have before for those who don't.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Know, like that it did a deep dive, big deep
- 10:15Speaker 1: dove a couple of years ago on condensed formations and
- 10:18Speaker 1: why the Bills bringing in Mac Collins and you know,
- 10:20Speaker 1: the different body types oft receiver and what that all
- 10:23Speaker 1: meant and kind of foreshadowed and laid that out. So
- 10:25Speaker 1: we'll be doing a bunch of stuff like that this offseason,
- 10:29Speaker 1: tying in some film with some other teams, League widself,
- 10:31Speaker 1: a whole bunch of things, but there were some pieces
- 10:32Speaker 1: in OTAs that I really thought tapped into or dove into.
- 10:38Speaker 1: I shouldn't say dove into. I'm going to dive into
- 10:41Speaker 1: what these pieces kind of tapped into a little bit
- 10:44Speaker 1: because they connect to.
- 10:45Speaker 2: The bigger picture, which I thought was important to note.
- 10:49Speaker 1: First thing we're going to talk about here in case
- 10:50Speaker 1: you don't know, OTAs organized team activities.
- 10:53Speaker 2: That's what the OTA stands for.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Those are voluntary spring practices in the NFL where teams
- 10:59Speaker 1: gather to hold astroom sessions, on field walkthroughs, and non
- 11:02Speaker 1: contact drills to prepare for the upcoming year and or season. Again,
- 11:07Speaker 1: keynote there they are voluntary. That means people will not
- 11:11Speaker 1: be at them. Sometimes, yes, it's awesome to get everybody there.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Sometimes it doesn't happen. I say all that to lead
- 11:17Speaker 1: into this post here from Nick Sebado, sports editor and
- 11:23Speaker 1: Bill's reporter for the Niagara Gazette. Also, I'm going to
- 11:26Speaker 1: be represented a bunch of work from a bunch of
- 11:27Speaker 1: beat guys in this episode who did a great job
- 11:29Speaker 1: providing a bunch of details and aspects today, which was
- 11:33Speaker 1: really cool. So Nick, from again Nick Obado from the Nagazette.
- 11:39Speaker 1: He posted today not at Bill's voluntary camp, James Cook,
- 11:44Speaker 1: Jackson Acker, Dean Dawkins, Ed Oliver Dorrian Williams, Joe andresen Cole, Bishop,
- 11:50Speaker 1: Christian Benford, non contact players Jordan Hancock and Lloyd Cushionberry
- 11:55Speaker 1: working with trainers, Joshua Palmer and Michael Hoyt there but
- 11:59Speaker 1: not practicing, Spencer Brown. So I just wanted to put
- 12:01Speaker 1: that out there. I'm not going to dive into too
- 12:03Speaker 1: much of like what does that mean? Why aren't they there?
- 12:05Speaker 1: Why this guy this is met There could be a
- 12:08Speaker 1: multitude of reasons. You know, Palmer and Hoyt working with trainers,
- 12:11Speaker 1: you know, building them, working off coming back from injuries,
- 12:13Speaker 1: kind of getting healthy, getting right kind of makes a
- 12:15Speaker 1: bunch of sense just based on that. And then the
- 12:17Speaker 1: guys who were just not there in general, don't know,
- 12:20Speaker 1: interesting to not see Bishop.
- 12:22Speaker 2: I thought that was pretty interesting. But maybe he's getting
- 12:24Speaker 2: some cleaned up. You don't know.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I'm not gonna speculate or surmise on anything, but wanted
- 12:28Speaker 1: to put that out there.
- 12:28Speaker 2: For who wasn't practicing and being there.
- 12:33Speaker 1: One of the names I did mention, I'm gonna lead
- 12:36Speaker 1: off with Michael Hoyt.
- 12:38Speaker 2: These aren't ranked in order.
- 12:39Speaker 1: I've got like three big points, one kind of like
- 12:41Speaker 1: minor ones, like three and a half points to get
- 12:43Speaker 1: through on this episode. But what was nice to see
- 12:46Speaker 1: was Michael Hoyt sprinting running today at practice. He was
- 12:49Speaker 1: in you know, blue jersey, black pants, helmet on. Good
- 12:53Speaker 1: to see him at least getting some movement in, some
- 12:55Speaker 1: running in and then banged Up Bills really good on
- 13:00Speaker 1: social If you're not checking out banged Up Bills, you should.
- 13:04Speaker 2: That's I'm gonna grab with the actual Twitter handle there.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Actually yeah, I we'll say it's exactly literally at Banged
- 13:12Speaker 1: Up Bills, that's Kyle Trimble's account. He does a lot
- 13:15Speaker 1: of great work breaking down injury things, the guy, the
- 13:17Speaker 1: ways guy, the guys move, what their injury timelines and
- 13:20Speaker 1: recoveries will look like. He writes a bunch of articles
- 13:22Speaker 1: on it. So Kyle again at Banged Up Bills, he
- 13:27Speaker 1: noted a bunch of pieces from Hoyt running today and
- 13:29Speaker 1: practiced and talked about him, you know, starting off on
- 13:33Speaker 1: his injured side, not being one hundred percent yet, but
- 13:37Speaker 1: solid progress to see him moving pushing off that right side,
- 13:40Speaker 1: leading off of that right that injured side, and how
- 13:44Speaker 1: that was good to see where he was at this point.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Now. That encouraged me because I've I've talked about so
- 13:50Speaker 2: much this.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Offseason the idea of what this Bill's defense will be
- 13:56Speaker 1: under Jim Lennard, right, and so much of it has
- 13:58Speaker 1: been talked about and kind of the assumptions and people
- 14:00Speaker 1: trying to figure out, like.
- 14:01Speaker 2: What are they going to be? Who are they going
- 14:03Speaker 2: to be?
- 14:03Speaker 1: Like the schematic stuff the three four versus the four
- 14:05Speaker 1: to three you know how much, but saying movement, what
- 14:07Speaker 1: are we gonna see all this kind of stuff? Right,
- 14:10Speaker 1: Michael Hoyt, if all things were, even if we knew
- 14:14Speaker 1: he was gonna be healthy and he wasn't coming off
- 14:15Speaker 1: a major injury.
- 14:17Speaker 2: I think Michael Hoyt is probably.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Due for the biggest like upgrade in this in Jim
- 14:25Speaker 1: Leonards defense versus the Sean McDermott defense. Yes, I think
- 14:28Speaker 1: Cole Bishop will prosper a bit because they're gonna play
- 14:30Speaker 1: more single high safety, and I think Bishop will be
- 14:33Speaker 1: more of the down safety than he will be the
- 14:34Speaker 1: single high post guy, though he can do that stuff right.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I know a lot of comparisons and comps are being
- 14:39Speaker 1: made to you know, Talanoah Hafanga, the safety for the Broncos,
- 14:43Speaker 1: who is more of a box or a down safety,
- 14:45Speaker 1: but he still played in the post. He's still played deep.
- 14:47Speaker 1: You're still going to see that from Bishop. But I
- 14:50Speaker 1: do expect to jump from and for Cole Bishop and
- 14:52Speaker 1: Jim Leonard's defense, especially with Leonard being a dB kind
- 14:55Speaker 1: of guy, not even a dB kind of guy, being
- 14:57Speaker 1: a dB guy at a former dB. But I think
- 15:00Speaker 1: right there with Bishop, and especially from a a schematic perspective,
- 15:04Speaker 1: is Michael Hoyt. I was excited last year when Hoyt
- 15:08Speaker 1: came into the Bills because I thought his skill set
- 15:11Speaker 1: and his presence and his signing meant the Bills were
- 15:14Speaker 1: going to lean into more of the stuff he did
- 15:16Speaker 1: with the Rams. And what the Rams did was more
- 15:20Speaker 1: Jim Leonard type stuff than Sean McDermott stuff, right on
- 15:23Speaker 1: fronts and loading up one side and playing five man
- 15:26Speaker 1: games and or different movement I should say, you know,
- 15:29Speaker 1: from a five man front, three man games, two man games,
- 15:32Speaker 1: changing the body types on one side, overloading one side,
- 15:36Speaker 1: you know, mugging gaps, moving Hoyt all around as a
- 15:39Speaker 1: chess piece again.
- 15:40Speaker 2: To go back to those episodes from last year.
- 15:41Speaker 1: I talked about watching a bunch of Rams tape, and
- 15:44Speaker 1: I kept seeing ninety seven for the Rams, which was
- 15:45Speaker 1: hoy flashing in a bunch of areas. And sometimes he'd
- 15:48Speaker 1: be in the a gap, he'd be in coverage, he'd
- 15:49Speaker 1: be rushing off the edge, he'd be looping, he'd be spiking,
- 15:52Speaker 1: he'd be in coverage in the hooks, in the hook
- 15:54Speaker 1: curls and then in the curl flats and like outside
- 15:57Speaker 1: carrying guys on wheels, all this stuff. I think you're
- 16:00Speaker 1: gonna get more of that for Michael Hoyt in this
- 16:02Speaker 1: Bill's defense now. So much of that will be predicated
- 16:06Speaker 1: upon how healthy he is. He's coming off of an
- 16:08Speaker 1: achilles that happened in week nine against the King City Chiefs,
- 16:13Speaker 1: so that was what November.
- 16:16Speaker 2: You know. I we still don't know where he's going
- 16:19Speaker 2: to be.
- 16:19Speaker 1: He's apparently ahead of schedule, which is good to hear,
- 16:22Speaker 1: good to see, good to see him moving in. OTA's
- 16:24Speaker 1: good to see him in a helmet, running, sprinting, and
- 16:27Speaker 1: like Kyle at banged up Bills noted, sprinting off that
- 16:30Speaker 1: right side, pushing off that right side, really getting his
- 16:33Speaker 1: cleats in the ground and moving and pushing, really encouraging
- 16:36Speaker 1: and solid progress. I don't know if he's gonna be
- 16:38Speaker 1: ready for week one. If he is ready for week one,
- 16:41Speaker 1: what version of himself is he, you know, so on
- 16:43Speaker 1: and so forth. But I think Hoyt is a guy who,
- 16:48Speaker 1: just from a schematic standpoint, opens up the defense so
- 16:51Speaker 1: much because no one else on the bills front, especially
- 16:54Speaker 1: at edge, can do all the things that Hoyt can do,
- 16:57Speaker 1: can wear all the hats that he can wear with
- 16:59Speaker 1: the effective that he wears them with, in the combination
- 17:02Speaker 1: of physicality and athleticism that he brings right.
- 17:04Speaker 2: He's not the ultimate chess piece, but he is a
- 17:07Speaker 2: chess piece.
- 17:08Speaker 1: He is a movable piece, and I think this defense
- 17:12Speaker 1: will allow him to shine a little bit more. It
- 17:14Speaker 1: should unlock him a little bit more. And I really
- 17:19Speaker 1: just want to see him be healthy, because he's the
- 17:20Speaker 1: one guy at edge that can just do a lot
- 17:24Speaker 1: of different things. You know, Groot is what Groot is of,
- 17:29Speaker 1: is what Chubb is. We'll see what TJ. Parker is,
- 17:30Speaker 1: But I think TJ. Parker is very much in the
- 17:32Speaker 1: mold of Chubb Solomon. It would be awesome. If he
- 17:38Speaker 1: was like the speed and the juice guy. I think
- 17:40Speaker 1: this defense could be actually be a better fit for
- 17:42Speaker 1: him than the Sean McDermott defense. But we don't really
- 17:45Speaker 1: have any semblance of consistent or solid edge production for
- 17:50Speaker 1: Javon Solomon. He got used in a little bit of
- 17:52Speaker 1: the Hoitt role when Hoyt was out last year, but
- 17:55Speaker 1: we just don't really have anything for Javon Solomon. So
- 17:58Speaker 1: it's a lot I think to kind of count him
- 18:00Speaker 1: in any way, shape or for him. And even if
- 18:01Speaker 1: he did right, he's still he's got some versatility to him,
- 18:05Speaker 1: but the effectiveness within.
- 18:07Speaker 2: That versatility is a big question.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Hoyt, you have proof of concept, you know what this
- 18:12Speaker 1: guy can be in a multitude of gaps, in a
- 18:15Speaker 1: multitude of roles versus the run, as a rusher, in coverage,
- 18:19Speaker 1: all these things that you can do with him. And
- 18:23Speaker 1: we talked about on this show going into this offseason
- 18:26Speaker 1: after the hiring of Jim Leonard, the idea of increasing
- 18:32Speaker 1: the versatility, and you know, the dynamics of the players
- 18:37Speaker 1: in the Buffalo Bills front, especially at linebacker, and I
- 18:42Speaker 1: don't think they necessarily got those guys. You know, again,
- 18:46Speaker 1: the tried and true example. I'm gonna keep giving right
- 18:48Speaker 1: a linebacker right, Guys like ky Nellis, Guys like Leo Chano,
- 18:51Speaker 1: like these guys that could play inside linebacker off ball,
- 18:54Speaker 1: could rush off the edge, can play as the end
- 18:56Speaker 1: man on the line of scrimmage, can rush off the
- 18:58Speaker 1: edge in an even front as well, that can wear
- 19:00Speaker 1: all these hats and wear all them, you know, in
- 19:02Speaker 1: a multitude ways, and.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Be effective at them in a lot of ways.
- 19:06Speaker 1: And Hoyt isn't necessarily like Ellis or chanall, but he
- 19:10Speaker 1: represents a level of dynamics that I don't think a
- 19:14Speaker 1: lot of guys in the Bills front have. There isn't
- 19:16Speaker 1: a lot of guys who you can, again, put all
- 19:19Speaker 1: these different hats on them and they can be effective
- 19:21Speaker 1: wearing all these kind of hats. I think Leonard is
- 19:23Speaker 1: going to do a good job maximizing the skill sets
- 19:26Speaker 1: that the Bills have, But the body types and skill
- 19:29Speaker 1: sets and archetypes that this Bill's defense has it has
- 19:32Speaker 1: this year in twenty twenty six is still largely what
- 19:34Speaker 1: they've had in previous years.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Me I find that a bit underwhelming.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I think that limits the ceiling of what Jim Leonard's
- 19:41Speaker 1: defense can be So for me, Hoyt is a guy
- 19:44Speaker 1: I'm really hanging my hat on, or I'd like to
- 19:46Speaker 1: hang my hat on in terms of a guy that
- 19:48Speaker 1: I think Leonard could unlock and or could unlock. Leonard's
- 19:51Speaker 1: defense a little more kind of help it reach the
- 19:55Speaker 1: ceiling a bit because of the skill set that he brings. Now,
- 19:59Speaker 1: all that being said, still a lot to ask of
- 20:01Speaker 1: a guy he's coming off of major injury. Achilles injuries
- 20:04Speaker 1: are no joke. Usually you still don't see that return
- 20:06Speaker 1: to form until the second year away from injuries. So
- 20:10Speaker 1: twenty twenty seven is more likely that we'll see like
- 20:15Speaker 1: the twenty twenty five version of Michael Hoyt than we
- 20:17Speaker 1: will you know, seeing it in twenty twenty six. So
- 20:20Speaker 1: I'm interested to see what version of Hoyt we get
- 20:22Speaker 1: in twenty twenty six. But it's good to see him
- 20:24Speaker 1: working in the capacity that he did today at OTA's.
- 20:27Speaker 2: It's good to see people who.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Know the medical side of things, like Kyle Trimble at
- 20:30Speaker 1: bang To Bills, recognizing that and saying there's reason to
- 20:34Speaker 1: be encouraged and that he's made solid progress.
- 20:36Speaker 2: The sooner they can.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Get Hoyt up the speed and one hundred percent and
- 20:41Speaker 1: into this lineup. I think it'll go a long way
- 20:44Speaker 1: for this Buffalo Bill's defense. And again, if that means,
- 20:46Speaker 1: you know Roy's comment here, let's make sure Hoyt is ready.
- 20:49Speaker 2: For the postseason.
- 20:50Speaker 1: If that means he's not ready to go until November, fine,
- 20:52Speaker 1: you know, whenever he's ready to go, Frank says Michael
- 20:56Speaker 1: Hoyt had.
- 20:56Speaker 2: The search to put him bionic Achilles tendons. Oh, that's funny.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Whenever he's good to go and gets put into the lineup,
- 21:03Speaker 1: I think he'll.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Make a difference. Even more so.
- 21:05Speaker 1: I know fans liked what he did last year with
- 21:08Speaker 1: the Bills when he came on, right in that small
- 21:09Speaker 1: sample size, I think he'll be even more effective in
- 21:13Speaker 1: the Bills defense under Jim Leonard, which is again what
- 21:16Speaker 1: really has me encouraged in general, but especially given the
- 21:19Speaker 1: lack of other dynamic ads at the previous you know,
- 21:23Speaker 1: previously throughout this offseason, and you know, there is some
- 21:27Speaker 1: that doesn't mean they're not athletic, it doesn't mean they're bad, right,
- 21:30Speaker 1: but there's just not a lot of positional versatility. And
- 21:34Speaker 1: that's what I mean from a dynamic standpoint, right, from
- 21:36Speaker 1: a skill set, dynamics, traits, positional versatility, alignment, potential alignment,
- 21:41Speaker 1: versatility where it's not just lining up a guy in
- 21:44Speaker 1: this spot for the sake of doing it. It's doing it, and.
- 21:46Speaker 2: The offense has to be like, oh, okay, that could
- 21:49Speaker 2: be kind of a problem.
- 21:50Speaker 3: Right.
- 21:50Speaker 1: They have to account for it. They have to treat
- 21:52Speaker 1: it as a legitimate threat, not just like, oh, look
- 21:54Speaker 1: where they lined up this linebacker.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Oh who cares?
- 21:56Speaker 1: He can't do anything from that spot, so we don't
- 21:58Speaker 1: have to change anything, right. So I was very encouraged
- 22:02Speaker 1: to see that from Michael Hoyt today, and I'm again
- 22:05Speaker 1: I'm encouraged by what he could be.
- 22:06Speaker 2: In this Buffalo Bills defense.
- 22:09Speaker 1: I just says not saying hey will be one hundred percent,
- 22:11Speaker 1: but too many keeps saying he won't be ready until
- 22:12Speaker 1: the twenty twenty seven season, usually twelve months and you're
- 22:15Speaker 1: one hundred percent after an achilles tear. We just have
- 22:18Speaker 1: had bad luck. Yeah, I think he'll play in twenty
- 22:20Speaker 1: twenty six. It's just a matter of what form is
- 22:23Speaker 1: he going to be, right, is it a diminished value
- 22:26Speaker 1: and if it is, how much is it like seventy
- 22:28Speaker 1: percent of what he could be. Is he is he
- 22:30Speaker 1: healthy and good to go? But is he lacking burst?
- 22:33Speaker 1: Is he lacking you know, get off? Is he lacking power?
- 22:37Speaker 1: Is he lacking drive? You know what kind of limitations
- 22:40Speaker 1: does he have if he's able to play? For me,
- 22:42Speaker 1: it's more of Usually those guys don't return to their
- 22:45Speaker 1: pre injury form until they're two years away to a
- 22:48Speaker 1: full two years away. So I think he's gonna play
- 22:50Speaker 1: in twenty twenty six. I just don't know what version
- 22:53Speaker 1: of him we're going to be.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Bum bum bum bum? Where are we okay? Next?
- 23:02Speaker 1: Also on the defensive line, Land and Jackson looking super
- 23:07Speaker 1: swollen at OTAs today. Andy Young from Spectrum News one
- 23:13Speaker 1: had a really great, great quote about Land and Jackson,
- 23:16Speaker 1: saying that Jackson says he hopes to play at about
- 23:20Speaker 1: two hundred and eighty five pounds, which is up from
- 23:23Speaker 1: the two hundred and sixty he played at last year.
- 23:28Speaker 1: I cannot say how significant of a weight gain that is.
- 23:33Speaker 1: You know, I've talked about it in the show all offseason.
- 23:36Speaker 1: I said it starting back in like February. The idea
- 23:39Speaker 1: of you know, in Jim Leonards defense, Land and Jackson
- 23:41Speaker 1: isn't gonna be a guy who plays on the end
- 23:43Speaker 1: at the end of the line of scrimms. She's not
- 23:45Speaker 1: gonna be the end man on the line of scrimmage
- 23:46Speaker 1: and the odd front or even front. He's not gonna
- 23:47Speaker 1: be the two point stance guy. I was like, it
- 23:50Speaker 1: makes a lot of sense to add more weight to
- 23:52Speaker 1: him like he did at Arkansas at times. Add some
- 23:54Speaker 1: more weight to him and let him kick in four.
- 23:56Speaker 1: I My hope was, Okay, can you get him to
- 24:01Speaker 1: too eighty?
- 24:02Speaker 2: Can you get him to two eighty five?
- 24:03Speaker 1: So I'm very encouraged that he says he hopes to
- 24:07Speaker 1: play at about two hundred and eighty five pounds. You
- 24:10Speaker 1: kind of saw today if he saw any clips or
- 24:13Speaker 1: pictures of him from OTA's today, he looks legitimately massive
- 24:19Speaker 1: like you you are. You could just see him and yeah,
- 24:23Speaker 1: say Bill's fan seventy eight eighty three said, I watched
- 24:24Speaker 1: this interview. Jackson looks huge. He definitely looks like he's
- 24:26Speaker 1: about twenty pounds bigger. Yeah, you see him right away,
- 24:29Speaker 1: and your immediate thing is like, WHOA, how close to
- 24:32Speaker 1: three hundred pounds.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Is that guy?
- 24:33Speaker 1: Like he looks big, like his neck his arms, his shoulders,
- 24:36Speaker 1: you can tell and he and he doesn't look disproportionate
- 24:40Speaker 1: or bad. Like, he looks like he hit the gym
- 24:43Speaker 1: and ate all the protein. Kim Morris says, Land and
- 24:46Speaker 1: Jackson just having a garbage plates all offseason. Yeah, Like,
- 24:48Speaker 1: he just looks like he got a bunch of calories
- 24:50Speaker 1: he got in the gym. The weight looks good on him,
- 24:53Speaker 1: It looks good on his frame. He's moving well in drills.
- 24:56Speaker 1: We'll see what happens. But I absolutely love of hearing that.
- 25:01Speaker 1: You know, he hopes to play about two hundred eighty
- 25:03Speaker 1: five pounds, and again, that's still a big change. You know,
- 25:06Speaker 1: if he was playing in about two sixty last year,
- 25:08Speaker 1: you're putting on twenty five pounds largely muscle. That's a
- 25:14Speaker 1: big change. And you're also kind of playing a different
- 25:17Speaker 1: position in a newer defense. Granted he does that four
- 25:19Speaker 1: I experience from his time at Arkansas, but I was
- 25:22Speaker 1: really encouraged by that in terms of hearing that weight change,
- 25:24Speaker 1: not even just like, oh, you know he's hoping to
- 25:27Speaker 1: get to two seventy five.
- 25:27Speaker 2: I could be an understood that.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Right, It's hard to put on like twenty plus pounds
- 25:32Speaker 1: of muscle in an offseason, especially coming off of an
- 25:34Speaker 1: injury like he was, And dude is just ready and
- 25:38Speaker 1: rare to go and wants to play it about two
- 25:40Speaker 1: eighty five, which is awesome to hear. Why that matters,
- 25:43Speaker 1: Why that's important Again what I've talked about, and this
- 25:47Speaker 1: is from a guy who I said this when he
- 25:50Speaker 1: came out of Arkansas.
- 25:51Speaker 2: I did not love him as a prospect.
- 25:55Speaker 1: High cut, long legs, stiffer lower body, not great change
- 25:59Speaker 1: of direction, not a lot of fluidity.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Pretty much just a linear.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Power type of guy, very much in the mold of
- 26:06Speaker 1: Bill's edge rushers, which is, oh, you got some length, Okay,
- 26:09Speaker 1: you play the run, Okay, you're violent, Okay, you compress
- 26:12Speaker 1: the pocket, Okay, rush off the edge, use your length
- 26:15Speaker 1: and just try and push the tackle in the backyard.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Like that's what he was.
- 26:20Speaker 1: I actually thought, you know, him moving inside could help
- 26:24Speaker 1: him a little bit.
- 26:26Speaker 2: I still didn't. Wouldn't. I don't love.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Him as like a prospect and as a player. Again,
- 26:31Speaker 1: but for me, that's more subjective or personal than it
- 26:33Speaker 1: is anything. And seven somewhat arbitrary to agree. I'm guys
- 26:36Speaker 1: that are stiffer and high cut, that Guys in high
- 26:42Speaker 1: cut in general tend to be stiffer, tend to have
- 26:44Speaker 1: less change of direction ability, And I don't like that
- 26:49Speaker 1: lack of fluidity. I don't like not having bend. I
- 26:53Speaker 1: don't like having the ability to kind of anchor. I
- 26:55Speaker 1: do worry even at a foe high right, with his
- 26:57Speaker 1: length and his physicality, and he is violent, he will
- 27:00Speaker 1: play the run, but I worry like everything's gonna have
- 27:02Speaker 1: to be always angled and playing with leverage, because does
- 27:06Speaker 1: he have the lower body ability to drop a knee.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Does he have the ability to kind of anchor and
- 27:10Speaker 1: sink into the ground and push back, Like rigid athletes
- 27:16Speaker 1: worry me. Stiffness worries me. And that's not just because
- 27:19Speaker 1: like oh, I like guys that are more fluid. Guys
- 27:22Speaker 1: that are stiffer have trouble in the NFL. Change the
- 27:24Speaker 1: direction matters, Fluidity matters, right in your hips, in your
- 27:28Speaker 1: lower body. You like seeing guys that have sink, that
- 27:30Speaker 1: have flexibility, that have flexion, whether it's in their ankles,
- 27:34Speaker 1: their joints, their hips, that.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Type of movement.
- 27:37Speaker 1: You like to see that more, And especially for a
- 27:39Speaker 1: Bills team that so many guys are just like power compression,
- 27:43Speaker 1: linear straight like it is kind of just what it is.
- 27:46Speaker 1: That all that being said again, as a person who
- 27:48Speaker 1: didn't love Jackson as an edge prospect and who still
- 27:50Speaker 1: is very iffy on him now, I do like him
- 27:53Speaker 1: more for I than I do the edge, So I
- 28:00Speaker 1: think this can end up working out for him, and
- 28:02Speaker 1: I am encouraged to see that he is going to
- 28:04Speaker 1: play it a weight that I think he could survive
- 28:05Speaker 1: at at edge. For those you know wondering, John Franklin
- 28:09Speaker 1: Myers was somebody that I would have loved the Bills
- 28:12Speaker 1: to get. He got paid big time to go elsewhere.
- 28:14Speaker 1: But his listed weight is two hundred and eighty eight pounds,
- 28:16Speaker 1: So I think Jackson being able to play in the
- 28:18Speaker 1: mid two eighties is fine. He can live as a
- 28:21Speaker 1: four eye there. We'll see what he does in even
- 28:23Speaker 1: front alignments and some other stuff. By tying into all
- 28:27Speaker 1: of that what he is as a player couraged or
- 28:32Speaker 1: encouraged or maybe discouraged depending on who you are. The
- 28:35Speaker 1: Bills just need an answer at that four I spot.
- 28:38Speaker 1: And yes, I know at the end of the day,
- 28:40Speaker 1: those base front odd front looks will probably not be
- 28:44Speaker 1: the dominant front that they played. I think they're gonna
- 28:48Speaker 1: be in a ton of subpackaged stuff. You're still going
- 28:50Speaker 1: to lead and see a lot of four down fronts.
- 28:52Speaker 1: But when they're in those odd front looks, they need
- 28:57Speaker 1: somebody to lock down the four eye spot opposite of
- 29:02Speaker 1: at Aliber. Again, if we're listing out the bills defense
- 29:05Speaker 1: that tight front base with Jim Lennard, and yes, you'll
- 29:08Speaker 1: see some other alignments too, right. I know people love
- 29:11Speaker 1: it throwing out the terms like the Paeso package and
- 29:13Speaker 1: you know, eagle front and all these things. So you're
- 29:15Speaker 1: gonna see different alignments up front, but we're just using
- 29:18Speaker 1: that base, that Jim Leonard tight front, right.
- 29:20Speaker 2: That means we're gonna have our two bookends on the outside.
- 29:22Speaker 1: So just for the sake of this exercise, Greg Russoe,
- 29:25Speaker 1: Bradley Chubb right at knows it's gonna be Dean Walker.
- 29:28Speaker 1: And then you've got your two four eyes, one inside
- 29:30Speaker 1: of Grout and one inside a Chubb. One of those
- 29:33Speaker 1: guys is gonna be at Oliver. Who's the other guy
- 29:35Speaker 1: gonna be? Right now, if you're looking at the depth
- 29:38Speaker 1: chart and who's on the roster, that guy is either
- 29:40Speaker 1: Landon Jackson or TJ. Sanders, and that's worrisome because you
- 29:45Speaker 1: don't have proof of concept for either guy in the NFL,
- 29:49Speaker 1: let alone that role.
- 29:51Speaker 2: And it's a big departure for t J. Sanders. So
- 29:55Speaker 2: Sanders and Jackson are one of those guys are penciled
- 29:57Speaker 2: in right now at that spot.
- 29:58Speaker 1: And then on top of that, if anything happens to
- 30:02Speaker 1: add Oliver, that's very scary.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Because one of those guys then had then.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Both of those guys are starting, say ed Oliver goes down,
- 30:12Speaker 1: that means one of your four eyes.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Is Landon Jackson and the other is t J. Sanders.
- 30:15Speaker 1: That puts you into a buying How do you just
- 30:18Speaker 1: reduce how much of the odd front stuff you do?
- 30:20Speaker 1: How much movement based do you have to add? How
- 30:22Speaker 1: many more rum blitzes and games are you playing up
- 30:25Speaker 1: front to kind of counteract the lack of anchoring ability
- 30:28Speaker 1: or kind of stoutness that you do not have there.
- 30:32Speaker 1: It's just, oh, I missed a super chat baus here, Matt,
- 30:36Speaker 1: thank you for being here.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Thank you for the stuper chat.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Matt says, Landon Jackson's breakout nickname needs to be no
- 30:41Speaker 1: ho Hank, change my mind. I appreciate this, uh because
- 30:45Speaker 1: Roy says, no, ho, Hank, maybe my mind is going
- 30:47Speaker 1: but I don't get it.
- 30:48Speaker 2: I didn't get it right away either.
- 30:49Speaker 1: And then Matt says it's a very reference. Apology should
- 30:52Speaker 1: have specified. And then Matt says, give it a Google.
- 30:55Speaker 1: I promise you'll laugh even better. Check out the show.
- 30:58Speaker 1: It's great, yeah, I And Matt says, yes, sir, it's
- 31:01Speaker 1: on HBO.
- 31:02Speaker 2: It's great. I do remember Barry being that show That's fair.
- 31:06Speaker 2: That's fair, well done, well done.
- 31:07Speaker 1: I also like to Matt, you did something that I'm
- 31:10Speaker 1: always kind of fascinated by. So Matt says, give it
- 31:12Speaker 1: a Google. I promise you'll laugh even better. Check out
- 31:16Speaker 1: the show. It's great. I like that Google is one
- 31:19Speaker 1: of those things where it's like a platform and a
- 31:22Speaker 1: search engine, but it's become like a verb. So you
- 31:25Speaker 1: don't just say like, oh go to Google. You say
- 31:27Speaker 1: like google it, like you said, give it a Google.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Like and people now like, if I'm telling somebody to
- 31:31Speaker 1: look up something, I won't be like, oh go look
- 31:33Speaker 1: it up, I'll say google it.
- 31:34Speaker 2: Even if you're not using Google, I'll say google it.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Same way. Like a lot of people don't say tissue.
- 31:39Speaker 1: They say KLEENICX, even though Kleenics is a brand and
- 31:43Speaker 1: tissue is the name of the thing, same way like
- 31:45Speaker 1: band aid. Band aid is the brand, not necessarily like
- 31:48Speaker 1: the adhesive rap or the adhesive bandage.
- 31:51Speaker 2: That's a little nerdy thing that I always just kind
- 31:53Speaker 2: of pay attention to.
- 31:54Speaker 1: So I really appreciated that you further that and said
- 31:56Speaker 1: give it a Google and well done with the no
- 31:59Speaker 1: hohnk reference.
- 32:00Speaker 2: It's from Barry Matt. Thank you for being here, and
- 32:01Speaker 2: again they give you the super chat.
- 32:04Speaker 1: And yeah, I you need an answer there at the
- 32:08Speaker 1: four eye spot. Even if everything works out with that Oliver,
- 32:10Speaker 1: but we know ed Oliver has been banged up at
- 32:13Speaker 1: different times, So if Ed Oliver goes down, what's happening
- 32:17Speaker 1: at that spot? And then, as Noah says, in Zane
- 32:19Speaker 1: Durant talk about how tiny we are yet like right now,
- 32:22Speaker 1: Zane Durant is behind Ed Oliver. So that's the rotation.
- 32:26Speaker 1: One side the rotation is at Oliver and Zan Durant.
- 32:28Speaker 1: The other side is Landon Jackson and T. J.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Sanders.
- 32:30Speaker 1: If Ed Oliver goes down, your top three are Landon Jackson,
- 32:34Speaker 1: t J. Sanders, and Zane Durant. That is that's just.
- 32:38Speaker 2: None of those guys have any semblance of.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Effective NFL production in any capacity, let alone a consistent one.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Oh good one here from James. James sayin Xerox equals
- 32:53Speaker 1: a copy. Yeah, that's a good one too, Like oh
- 32:55Speaker 1: Xerox that when they say somebody says like they want
- 32:57Speaker 1: to copy. But Xerox is the brand, not the actual action.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Well done, Well done on that, Well done. Oh come
- 33:04Speaker 1: in here. Question says, how is four eyes such a
- 33:07Speaker 1: larger transition from three teck than five tech? Is nobody
- 33:10Speaker 1: is concerned about Oliver's transition, but everyone is concerned about Sanders.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Four Eye is closer to three tech distance wise than
- 33:16Speaker 1: five tech. Yes, it's more of the play style than
- 33:20Speaker 1: it is anything when you're talking about like the concern
- 33:23Speaker 1: for Oliver versus TJ.
- 33:25Speaker 2: Sanders.
- 33:26Speaker 1: So even though Ed Oliver is undersized, Ed Oliver can
- 33:30Speaker 1: battle against the run, he can drop the knee, he
- 33:33Speaker 1: can split a double team, he can reduce his surface area.
- 33:36Speaker 1: He's shown the capacity to take on double teams and
- 33:39Speaker 1: kind of live in that world.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Yes, a four I is very close to a three tech.
- 33:43Speaker 1: And though for those who don't know, if you're looking
- 33:45Speaker 1: at it, from a defensive perspective, So a four eye
- 33:48Speaker 1: is on the inside shoulder of a tackle, the three
- 33:52Speaker 1: tech is on the outside shoulder of the guards, So
- 33:56Speaker 1: you're still essentially in the B gap. It's just a
- 33:57Speaker 1: matter of being on the inside shoulder of the tackle
- 34:00Speaker 1: or the outside shoulder of the guard. But it's still
- 34:02Speaker 1: very close to one another. So you're still essentially kind
- 34:04Speaker 1: of a B gap player, but not necessarily. But to
- 34:07Speaker 1: put it in from a visual standpoint for everyone, but
- 34:10Speaker 1: it's more of the play style and the skill set
- 34:14Speaker 1: attached to it. So I still have some concerns about
- 34:18Speaker 1: at Oliver, but mine, or more so of having a
- 34:22Speaker 1: smaller guy have to kind of see take that beating.
- 34:25Speaker 1: If teams are always going to be running at him, right,
- 34:28Speaker 1: you don't want at Oliver, or at least I don't
- 34:29Speaker 1: want ed Oliver having to constantly get mashed with teams
- 34:34Speaker 1: running double teams at him. I don't want him constantly
- 34:36Speaker 1: having to battle double teams, drop the knee, battle and
- 34:39Speaker 1: battle and battle. I want him to get someone on ones.
- 34:42Speaker 1: I want him to be able to use his speed,
- 34:44Speaker 1: his movement and slash. That's also why tying into the
- 34:46Speaker 1: bigger picture of the defense, while you'll see more movement
- 34:49Speaker 1: based stuff. They're not built to be a stout front
- 34:51Speaker 1: where it's just like, hey, I'm the snap. I'm just gonna,
- 34:55Speaker 1: you know, play a gap and a half or two gap.
- 34:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna get my guy, I'm gonna sit there, I'm
- 34:59Speaker 1: gonna stab shed, make a play right, I'm gonna push
- 35:02Speaker 1: this guy down to constrict this a gap and then
- 35:05Speaker 1: play my a gap and take up both right, all
- 35:07Speaker 1: these things. I think they will play gap in half
- 35:10Speaker 1: and two gap more than people are talking about. But
- 35:13Speaker 1: for Jim Lennards defense has before, but maybe they don't
- 35:17Speaker 1: as much because they don't have those guys that can
- 35:18Speaker 1: play stout in that regard. So I think the concern
- 35:21Speaker 1: here though to kind of not get off track too
- 35:24Speaker 1: much for me, because I can talk about this in
- 35:27Speaker 1: so many different ways. But you're comment here of like
- 35:29Speaker 1: nobody's concerned about Oliver's transition, but everyone's concerned about Sanders.
- 35:33Speaker 1: It's more there's proof of concept with at Oliver being
- 35:36Speaker 1: able to handle double teams and not get blown off
- 35:38Speaker 1: the line.
- 35:39Speaker 2: TJ.
- 35:39Speaker 1: Sanders got blown off the line a bunch last year. Now,
- 35:44Speaker 1: he was also a rookie learning to play in the NFL,
- 35:47Speaker 1: and he was playing out of position some he was
- 35:49Speaker 1: getting blown off the line at like defensive end and edge.
- 35:51Speaker 1: He actually had some encouraging reps when they did some
- 35:53Speaker 1: odd front stuff and he did work into four I
- 35:55Speaker 1: At times, I think it's more of the concern of
- 35:59Speaker 1: you don't have many proof of concept for TJ.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Sanders, right.
- 36:02Speaker 1: He's not a proven NFL player in any regard, and
- 36:05Speaker 1: it is now a position slash alignment switch that he
- 36:08Speaker 1: hasn't played before. Right, Even Landon Jackson the move is like, oh, okay,
- 36:13Speaker 1: you know he's moving a four eye. But he played
- 36:15Speaker 1: that at Arkansas. There is some proof of concept there.
- 36:17Speaker 1: You don't have that with TJ. Sanders, right, And I
- 36:21Speaker 1: think that's the question. Is Ed Oliver an ideal four I.
- 36:26Speaker 1: I don't necessarily think so, but I think he can
- 36:29Speaker 1: play that spot and be fine. And again, they're not
- 36:32Speaker 1: going to be living in the in that odd front
- 36:34Speaker 1: base a ton. I think you're probably gonna into playing
- 36:37Speaker 1: It's somewhere between twenty and thirty percent of the time,
- 36:40Speaker 1: depending on the body types they have and how successful
- 36:42Speaker 1: guys make in the transition. So even at the max,
- 36:46Speaker 1: it's thirty percent, So they're still going to be seventy
- 36:48Speaker 1: percent of the time in sub package stuff where you're
- 36:51Speaker 1: probably going to be playing a four down even front,
- 36:53Speaker 1: and that means Ed can be at a three tech again, TJ.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Sanders can be at a three tech again, and so
- 36:57Speaker 1: on and so forth. For me at least, I think
- 37:01Speaker 1: to your question of nobody's concerned about Oliver's transition, but
- 37:04Speaker 1: everyone's concerned about Sanders. It's more that Sanders just doesn't
- 37:07Speaker 1: have a proof of concept at being very effective in
- 37:11Speaker 1: the NFL, and this is a new role for him,
- 37:14Speaker 1: and it's a new role that's gonna ask things of
- 37:17Speaker 1: him from a run defense standpoint that he necessarily hasn't shown.
- 37:21Speaker 2: The aptitude for.
- 37:23Speaker 1: And I'm speaking for myself, but I think that's where
- 37:24Speaker 1: a lot of it comes from as well. Very good question,
- 37:28Speaker 1: Very good question. Charles says, Mike Dana can play some
- 37:30Speaker 1: four I five tech. I watched the Mike Dana tape.
- 37:35Speaker 1: I didn't love it. I think he's fine as a
- 37:41Speaker 1: depth guy.
- 37:44Speaker 2: I didn't love the tape.
- 37:46Speaker 1: He battled against the run. He had a couple of
- 37:47Speaker 1: good reps against the run. Doesn't really offer a lot
- 37:49Speaker 1: as a pass rusher. It's pretty much as a guy
- 37:52Speaker 1: who looks to go for a long arm and then
- 37:54Speaker 1: try to lift the wrist or fork lift a little
- 37:56Speaker 1: bit from the tackle. But you know, he grinds, he battles,
- 38:00Speaker 1: he'll play the run a little bit. I don't think
- 38:02Speaker 1: he was. I don't think he's a great run defender,
- 38:04Speaker 1: excuse me. And I don't think he's a very overall
- 38:07Speaker 1: effective pass rushort that he's fine to be like your
- 38:09Speaker 1: edge four or your edge five if you're in a pinch.
- 38:12Speaker 2: But yeah, we'll see kind of what he's going to be.
- 38:16Speaker 2: I wanted to go back. There was another comment here,
- 38:20Speaker 2: bomb bomb bo where is I thought?
- 38:25Speaker 1: Somebody said, I forget Oh alright, he says, ed Oliver
- 38:32Speaker 1: is a three tech, is undersize. Oliver is a four eye,
- 38:34Speaker 1: is perfectly sized. I think it will be better in
- 38:36Speaker 1: the scheme for that. Yeah, I do think, you know,
- 38:38Speaker 1: from a weight and size perspective, he's fine.
- 38:43Speaker 2: I do think I want to pull up his arm length.
- 38:50Speaker 2: That's the yeah I was gonna say.
- 38:51Speaker 1: The only thing that worries me from like a four
- 38:53Speaker 1: eye perspective for Ed Oliver is he has thirty one
- 38:56Speaker 1: and three quarters inch arms.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Which is seventh percentile for defensive lineman.
- 39:01Speaker 1: And then he's got nine and a quarter inch hands,
- 39:03Speaker 1: which is ten percentile, so we know the explosion. And
- 39:05Speaker 1: again the weight isn't terrible, right if he's playing at
- 39:07Speaker 1: two eighty five or two ninety as a four eye,
- 39:10Speaker 1: the weight is fine, but it's being a little shorter.
- 39:14Speaker 2: Overall, he's about.
- 39:15Speaker 1: Six to two, which is eleven percentile. But then it's
- 39:18Speaker 1: having the short arms and the small hands. The short
- 39:20Speaker 1: arms and the small hands are very much not ideal.
- 39:24Speaker 1: I think that's the bigger aspect of his size and
- 39:27Speaker 1: frame is more the arm length and the hand sign
- 39:30Speaker 1: that it is in hand size that it is like, oh,
- 39:32Speaker 1: he's you know, undersized from a weight perspective. So from
- 39:35Speaker 1: a weight perspective now I think he's fine, but as
- 39:39Speaker 1: a from an arm length and hand sized perspective, that's concerning.
- 39:44Speaker 2: But yeah, that's fair bum bum bum bum bom.
- 39:48Speaker 1: But I do think again, I think at Oliver will
- 39:50Speaker 1: be fine if four eye this year, I do again
- 39:51Speaker 1: think we're gonna see a lot of movement based stuff
- 39:53Speaker 1: from Jin Leonard. We are going to see stunts and
- 39:56Speaker 1: run blitzes and gap exchanges and two man games, three
- 40:01Speaker 1: man games, We're gonna see a lot of movement from
- 40:04Speaker 1: a pass Russ perspective, but also from a run defense perspective.
- 40:07Speaker 1: Trying to cut off certain gaps, cut off certain lanes,
- 40:11Speaker 1: cut off certain areas of the field, kind of define
- 40:14Speaker 1: where the fight takes place between the offense and defense,
- 40:17Speaker 1: kind of define where the hole is.
- 40:18Speaker 2: Make the offense run kind of through a phone booth
- 40:20Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 40:21Speaker 1: The only issue with that is it's risk reward, right,
- 40:24Speaker 1: just like any regular blitz. If you blitz and you
- 40:27Speaker 1: gamed it upright cool at work, if you called the
- 40:30Speaker 1: wrong blitz at the wrong time, you know, a small
- 40:33Speaker 1: opening becomes a whole, a hole becomes an alley, or
- 40:37Speaker 1: there was gonna be nothing open and now there's a
- 40:39Speaker 1: whole big enough to run a bus through. Like you
- 40:40Speaker 1: can kind of be caught out real quickly, and then
- 40:42Speaker 1: that can be really worrisome in a heartbeat.
- 40:44Speaker 2: So again, risker work. I don't think.
- 40:48Speaker 1: I think the Bills are going to play some more
- 40:50Speaker 1: gap in half and two gap than people are necessarily
- 40:54Speaker 1: kind of thinking. And Jim Leonard did a bunch of
- 40:56Speaker 1: that at Wisconsin as well, and it happened a bunch
- 40:58Speaker 1: of Denver as well, but they had guys who were
- 41:00Speaker 1: better suited for that than what the Bills are right now.
- 41:04Speaker 1: The Bills don't have the Denver Broncos front that they
- 41:07Speaker 1: had last year, or even the versatility and the kind
- 41:09Speaker 1: of the guys that the Bills had at Wisconsin. Again
- 41:12Speaker 1: from a college, you know, it's not necessarily apples to
- 41:14Speaker 1: apples with NFL to college, but I'm talking about the
- 41:16Speaker 1: skill set of the body types that Leonard had there
- 41:18Speaker 1: at Wisconsin. So I think it's gonna be tougher for
- 41:21Speaker 1: the guys on the interior to kind of just be like, yeah,
- 41:24Speaker 1: good luck trying to knock us off the ball.
- 41:25Speaker 2: It's not gonna happen. I think at Oliver can battle enough.
- 41:29Speaker 1: I just think he's gonna wear down eventually, which and
- 41:31Speaker 1: I don't want that to happen to him. I want
- 41:33Speaker 1: him to be able to play juiced up and move,
- 41:35Speaker 1: and that's gonna be tough if he's always got a battle,
- 41:37Speaker 1: you know, against base blocks and double teams coming at him,
- 41:40Speaker 1: and he's got to worry about that consistently. And Jackson
- 41:45Speaker 1: and Sanders. Sanders is just a question of technique and
- 41:49Speaker 1: play style Jackson. I think is more of a question
- 41:53Speaker 1: of body type, like does he have the bill the
- 41:55Speaker 1: flexibility to kind of like literal flexibility, not positional flexibility.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Does he have the ability to kind of anchor move
- 42:02Speaker 1: do what he needs to Otherwise it's just gonna constantly
- 42:05Speaker 1: have it to be an angle leverage, pop your hands
- 42:08Speaker 1: on the snap, make sure you're the low man, always
- 42:11Speaker 1: extend and then shed from that way, because if he
- 42:14Speaker 1: doesn't win leverage and get underneath somebody with being high
- 42:17Speaker 1: cut and not having a lot of lower body flexibility
- 42:21Speaker 1: and being more stiff, when he gets knocked, he's gonna
- 42:25Speaker 1: move because he doesn't have that ability to kind of
- 42:29Speaker 1: absorb the contact and flow with the contact and disperse
- 42:33Speaker 1: the force. It's just gonna kind of move him because
- 42:36Speaker 1: he's because he's stiff.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Right.
- 42:37Speaker 1: If you flick a pencil, the whole pencil kind of
- 42:41Speaker 1: moves right. There is no like, oh, we can absorb
- 42:44Speaker 1: the force from that flick and kind of distribute it
- 42:47Speaker 1: and still kind of stay where we are. If you're
- 42:49Speaker 1: holding a pencil up here and you flick the bottom
- 42:51Speaker 1: of it, the whole pencil goes out right, And that's
- 42:53Speaker 1: kind of what land in Jackson is like he's a pencil,
- 42:56Speaker 1: so you're always gonna have the kind of he's got
- 42:58Speaker 1: to have lean. He can't get up two, he can't
- 43:00Speaker 1: get too upright because if he gets hit, he's going
- 43:02Speaker 1: to get knocked out. He's got to stay like this
- 43:04Speaker 1: because there is no there is no flex and ben
- 43:07Speaker 1: to be able to absorb that force from a run
- 43:10Speaker 1: defense standpoint if guys are trying to double team and
- 43:12Speaker 1: move him out of the picture. But again encouraging to
- 43:16Speaker 1: see that he's able to get to that weight or
- 43:18Speaker 1: that's his goal weight, which again means what we've talked
- 43:21Speaker 1: about a bunch of this offseason. He is going to
- 43:23Speaker 1: be kicking into four I. It's going to be him
- 43:25Speaker 1: and TJ. Sanders battling for that starting role on one side.
- 43:29Speaker 1: At Oliver is going to be the starter on the other,
- 43:31Speaker 1: which still is worrisome in and of itself, but if
- 43:33Speaker 1: anything happens to that Oliver, then it.
- 43:34Speaker 2: Becomes a little scary. But we'll see.
- 43:38Speaker 1: Claude says, I think Land and Jackson will benefit the most.
- 43:41Speaker 1: He won't be facing left tackles and right tackles. He
- 43:43Speaker 1: should be quicker than most guards he faces. He just
- 43:46Speaker 1: has to hold up on rundowns.
- 43:47Speaker 2: I think that.
- 43:49Speaker 1: I think the length will also help him against guards.
- 43:51Speaker 1: He's going to have significantly longer arms than the guards
- 43:53Speaker 1: he's going up against. But yeah, I do think the
- 43:57Speaker 1: question is, you know, he has to be able to
- 43:59Speaker 1: hold up on rundowns. That's what he's gonna be primarily
- 44:01Speaker 1: in there for. I think he has the mentality for it,
- 44:03Speaker 1: and the tenacity and the and the want to for it,
- 44:06Speaker 1: which is a huge part of the battle. I just
- 44:09Speaker 1: don't know if he has the physical capability to hold
- 44:12Speaker 1: up there regularly. But we go find out, and as
- 44:17Speaker 1: James says here, we'll find out early about the defensive
- 44:19Speaker 1: line when Detroit comes to town. Yeah, Dan Campbell and
- 44:22Speaker 1: those Lions on a short week after you go to
- 44:26Speaker 1: Houston and it's your real first game of the season,
- 44:30Speaker 1: your real first action, and you're sore and you got
- 44:32Speaker 1: to play, you know, several days later on a Thursday,
- 44:33Speaker 1: Detroit's gonna.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Want to come in and run the ball through your face.
- 44:36Speaker 1: Granted, the Bills are gonn try and run the ball
- 44:38Speaker 1: through Detroit's face, So yeah, we're gonna be a good test. Honestly,
- 44:41Speaker 1: even two the Bills run defense is gonna in defensive
- 44:44Speaker 1: line in general is going to get a test against
- 44:46Speaker 1: the Texans. Right, the Texans kind of revamped their old
- 44:49Speaker 1: line that wasn't that was not even wasn't very good,
- 44:51Speaker 1: that was horrible last year. Are they really improved? Are
- 44:56Speaker 1: they still mad? Can the Bills defensive line take advantage
- 44:59Speaker 1: are like that Texans line is improved? I don't think
- 45:03Speaker 1: it's the level of dominance yet. So the Bill should
- 45:06Speaker 1: be able to still work against them in the run
- 45:08Speaker 1: and the pass. And if they can't, then that's worrisome,
- 45:11Speaker 1: and then you face Detroit. So we're gonna find out
- 45:13Speaker 1: a lot of things early on this season for the
- 45:15Speaker 1: Buffalo Bills, especially from the from a defensive perspective, especially
- 45:18Speaker 1: against the run, and especially from a front perspective. I'm
- 45:22Speaker 1: very interested to see that. The only thing is this
- 45:27Speaker 1: is a good com The only thing better than an
- 45:28Speaker 1: equal amount of blueberries and each muffin is when you
- 45:30Speaker 1: get five muffins instead of four from a Little Bitt's
- 45:32Speaker 1: muffin package. That is one thousand percent true. Getting that
- 45:35Speaker 1: extra muffin in the Little Bytes packages. Chef's kiss phenomenal, phenomenal, phenomenal, but.
- 45:44Speaker 2: There was another comment.
- 45:49Speaker 1: I lost so oh, John Robert talking about Dwayne Carter
- 45:51Speaker 1: saying he's muscled up and is dwayn Carter's at three
- 45:54Speaker 1: hundred and forty five pounds. There's no way, there is
- 45:57Speaker 1: no way, and he wants to be three thirty?
- 46:00Speaker 2: Is he really?
- 46:01Speaker 1: I didn't read that or see that. I've also kind
- 46:02Speaker 1: of unfortunately largely written off Twin Carter.
- 46:05Speaker 2: Is he really three to five pounds?
- 46:07Speaker 1: I guess he's trying to claim that backup, no spot
- 46:10Speaker 1: behind Dian Walker. He's trying to beat out Frederian Mathis
- 46:13Speaker 1: and Zion Log. But yeah, I'm encouraged by the commitment
- 46:16Speaker 1: from from Land and Jackson and the confirmation if anybody
- 46:20Speaker 1: needed it and didn't believe me, that he's gonna play
- 46:22Speaker 1: for I.
- 46:22Speaker 2: And we'll see what happens within that rotation.
- 46:26Speaker 1: Next guy to talk about Dalton Kincaid. Some interesting notes
- 46:33Speaker 1: from ot AS today for Dalton king Kid again. Nick
- 46:36Speaker 1: Sabato of The Niager Gazette wrote an article about he
- 46:41Speaker 1: spoke with Kincaid and then wrote an article give him
- 46:43Speaker 1: a check. I think it's at hold on, let me
- 46:46Speaker 1: let me shout out what his twitter is.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Hold On hold on, hold.
- 46:53Speaker 1: On at Nick Sabato gnn so n I C K
- 46:58Speaker 1: s A b A T g n n so Nick
- 47:03Speaker 1: spoke with Kinkaid wrote an article about it. So Kinkaid
- 47:06Speaker 1: long story short, he was once again being advised to not.
- 47:10Speaker 2: Get knee surgery. He said, the knee feels better.
- 47:13Speaker 1: He also has added ten to twelve pounds of muscle
- 47:17Speaker 1: and also noted that he was planning to get surgery
- 47:20Speaker 1: on the knee.
- 47:20Speaker 2: Until he was advised otherwise. Then sell Capaccio of.
- 47:24Speaker 1: Wgr At a full length quote with regard to Kincaid
- 47:29Speaker 1: sail about Kinkaid said quote for those wondering why Dalton
- 47:33Speaker 1: Kinkaid did not have knee surgery this off season, we
- 47:36Speaker 1: asked and he addressed today and then Kinkaid said quote
- 47:40Speaker 1: after the season ended, I talked to a lot of
- 47:42Speaker 1: doctors who know a lot more than I do regarding
- 47:45Speaker 1: the PCL and everything that has to do with health,
- 47:48Speaker 1: and they advised against it, meaning the surgery. So I
- 47:52Speaker 1: believe them, and that kind of went into setting a
- 47:55Speaker 1: good foundation for strength around the need to support it.
- 48:00Speaker 1: I got plenty of options from people, you know, great doctors,
- 48:03Speaker 1: a bunch of team doctors, around the league, and so
- 48:05Speaker 1: I went with their suggestions and opinions. And then sal
- 48:09Speaker 1: also noted that Kinkaid said he would have had surgery
- 48:12Speaker 1: had the doctors recommended it. So some Dalton Kincaid news.
- 48:19Speaker 1: As we've talked about here, Kincaid's health is massively important
- 48:23Speaker 1: to this offense. I still think Kinkaid is We'll see
- 48:26Speaker 1: what happens with DJ Moore, and I know Shakiir has
- 48:27Speaker 1: been very productive. Kinkaid is the pass catcher that has
- 48:32Speaker 1: the best rapport or rhythm with Josh Allen. He's the
- 48:35Speaker 1: one that Alan throws to the most of anticipation. He
- 48:37Speaker 1: just seems to consistently be in the spot where Alan
- 48:40Speaker 1: expects him to be and where Alan needs him to be.
- 48:43Speaker 2: And he's a very good pass catcher.
- 48:44Speaker 1: I know we've gotten to this point where you know,
- 48:46Speaker 1: and I've been at the forefront of it. You know,
- 48:47Speaker 1: He's not a guy you can line up in line.
- 48:49Speaker 1: He's not a guy you can have as a traditional
- 48:52Speaker 1: wide tight end with really any amount of or semblance
- 48:55Speaker 1: of regularity or consistency.
- 48:57Speaker 2: From an effective standpoint.
- 48:59Speaker 1: He is essentially just a big body wide receiver when
- 49:02Speaker 1: he's in there. If there's two tight end. If him
- 49:04Speaker 1: and Dawson Knox are in there, it's kinda not really
- 49:09Speaker 1: twelve personnel. It is more like eleven and a half personnel.
- 49:12Speaker 1: Like I would rather have Tyrol Shavers in there as
- 49:14Speaker 1: a blocker than I would Dalton Kinkaid.
- 49:18Speaker 2: But Caid.
- 49:19Speaker 1: Even if he is just a big wide receiver. Sorry
- 49:22Speaker 1: move and the camera went out of focus.
- 49:23Speaker 2: There we go.
- 49:24Speaker 1: Even if Kinkaid is just a big receiver, he is
- 49:29Speaker 1: a good receiver. He's a good route runner. He's fluid,
- 49:31Speaker 1: he understands coverages, he understands spacing, he understands how to
- 49:34Speaker 1: get open in zone. And more often than not, he
- 49:37Speaker 1: gets matched up against bigger body types like tight end
- 49:39Speaker 1: or not like tight ends, like linebacker, safeties, even some
- 49:42Speaker 1: nickel guys, Like he can beat some nickel guys. And
- 49:45Speaker 1: then if he gets matched up on nickel guys, maybe
- 49:46Speaker 1: you kind of go with your.
- 49:49Speaker 2: You know run with a pass tag type option.
- 49:51Speaker 1: You spit the ball out fast or you know, audible
- 49:53Speaker 1: to the run based on account or based on a
- 49:55Speaker 1: coverage look that you're getting. I do still think he
- 49:57Speaker 1: has mismatched potential. I do think his usage is limited
- 50:02Speaker 1: because he is more of a wide receiver than he
- 50:04Speaker 1: is a true tight end. He's not somebody that, again,
- 50:06Speaker 1: you can line up in line. He's not somebody that
- 50:09Speaker 1: you are going to run towards or have him be
- 50:12Speaker 1: at the point of attack. I put up a bunch
- 50:14Speaker 1: of I put up several actual tweets about that, and
- 50:21Speaker 1: I don't really need to get it now because I'm
- 50:23Speaker 1: gonna be diving into it in my deep dive when
- 50:25Speaker 1: we go forward here. But I kind of set the
- 50:28Speaker 1: tone of this for a little bit. Granted, Kincaid was
- 50:31Speaker 1: banged up last year, but out of one hundred and
- 50:34Speaker 1: six tight ends in twenty twenty six with at least
- 50:37Speaker 1: one hundred snaps, here's where Dalton Kincaid ranked in positional
- 50:40Speaker 1: alignment rate SLASH the usage.
- 50:42Speaker 2: So again, out of one hundred and six.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Tight ends in line, he lined up in line thirty
- 50:47Speaker 1: two point six percent of the time, which was one
- 50:49Speaker 1: hundred and first out of one hundred and six tight ends.
- 50:52Speaker 1: He was in the slot forty three and a half percent,
- 50:55Speaker 1: which was ninth highest out of one hundred and six
- 50:59Speaker 1: tight ends. And then he was lined up out wide
- 51:01Speaker 1: split out twenty three point four percent of the time,
- 51:04Speaker 1: which was the third most, and then in general, the
- 51:08Speaker 1: Bills ran the ball to Kinkaid's side, so Kinkaid being
- 51:11Speaker 1: like at the point of attack or just on that side,
- 51:13Speaker 1: the Bills ran the ball to Kinkaid's side at a
- 51:15Speaker 1: rate of thirty point two percent, which is one hundred
- 51:19Speaker 1: and fourth out of the one hundred and six tight ends.
- 51:22Speaker 1: And when Dalton Kinkaid was lined up in line, the
- 51:25Speaker 1: Bills ran toward him at a rate of twenty six
- 51:27Speaker 1: point eight percent, which was ninety first out of ninety
- 51:31Speaker 1: two qualifying tight ends with at least one hundred in
- 51:35Speaker 1: line snaps. So I say all that to say, Dalton
- 51:40Speaker 1: Kinkaid is a bit of a tell on offense. If
- 51:42Speaker 1: he's lined up in line, they're not running towards him,
- 51:46Speaker 1: and if they do, you're at an advantage defensively because
- 51:49Speaker 1: he can't battle against an edge against a bigger bodied
- 51:53Speaker 1: outside linebacker. Linebacker even some physical safeties will get him
- 51:56Speaker 1: or some nickels who really want to mash So can
- 52:00Speaker 1: kid is a bit of a.
- 52:00Speaker 2: Tel, right.
- 52:01Speaker 1: He's a guy who's primarily gonna line up in the
- 52:03Speaker 1: slot or lineup out wide. He is in there to
- 52:05Speaker 1: catch the ball and run routes. He is not in
- 52:08Speaker 1: there to line up in line and to be point
- 52:11Speaker 1: of attack guy in the run game, So there is
- 52:12Speaker 1: a bit of a tell. So that's why his usage
- 52:17Speaker 1: and his ceiling is limited. Now, that can still kind
- 52:21Speaker 1: of be okay if you're healthy and can consistently be
- 52:26Speaker 1: used as a pass catcher. The problem is with Kincaid
- 52:28Speaker 1: so far as you have that usage limitability for him,
- 52:36Speaker 1: But then he's also been injured, so he's on like
- 52:40Speaker 1: a snapcount or a pitch count. When he's in there,
- 52:42Speaker 1: he's not really able to go, and especially if it's
- 52:44Speaker 1: lower body stuff, his whole thing is okay, your ability
- 52:47Speaker 1: is a pass catcher. Hard to be a pass catcher
- 52:49Speaker 1: if you can't really move fluidly and get in and
- 52:52Speaker 1: out of your cuts and in and out of your brakes,
- 52:53Speaker 1: right if you've got a bad knee, and your whole
- 52:56Speaker 1: thing is like man, the fluid technique that he plays with,
- 52:59Speaker 1: it's hard to be fluid and it's hard to get
- 53:01Speaker 1: in and out of your brakes and stem your routes
- 53:02Speaker 1: and your releases if you have a bad knee. So
- 53:04Speaker 1: it's really just been an unfortunate string of kind of
- 53:08Speaker 1: events for kincaid at times, but when he's been in
- 53:10Speaker 1: there and been healthy, he's been a very good player.
- 53:12Speaker 1: He's been a productive player for this Bill's offense.
- 53:17Speaker 2: I do think it's.
- 53:17Speaker 1: Interesting that he added about ten to twelve pounds of muscle.
- 53:20Speaker 1: I think, you know, him just trying to strengthen the body.
- 53:23Speaker 1: I think he's trying to do what he can to
- 53:26Speaker 1: limit those injuries and kind of essentially shroud himself in
- 53:30Speaker 1: muscle and make his body tougher and stronger overall, you know.
- 53:35Speaker 1: And I think again, he matters a lot for this
- 53:37Speaker 1: offense in general, but also within some of like the
- 53:40Speaker 1: shifts in the league from a trend's perspective. Again, I'll
- 53:43Speaker 1: be getting this further and deeper as we go forward
- 53:47Speaker 1: to this offseason when I do these deep dive episodes.
- 53:50Speaker 1: But you know, the Rams have been talked about so
- 53:52Speaker 1: much in all the thirteen personnel that the Rams use
- 53:54Speaker 1: last year, and Sean McVay, just like Kyle Shanahan, is
- 53:58Speaker 1: one of those offensive mines where when he does something,
- 54:01Speaker 1: a lot of the league copies it and tries to
- 54:02Speaker 1: go forward with it. So the Rams blew everyone out
- 54:05Speaker 1: of the water with their thirteen personnel usage rate last year,
- 54:10Speaker 1: Like they were more than double than whoever came in second.
- 54:13Speaker 1: Like it just wasn't even close. Like the Rams were
- 54:15Speaker 1: in a league of their own. When it came to
- 54:16Speaker 1: their thirteen personnel usage. The Bills ran sixty three plays
- 54:21Speaker 1: from thirteen personnel last year, which was eleventh. I was
- 54:24Speaker 1: also around Lee average. I think the Lee average was
- 54:26Speaker 1: like sixty four to sixty five. But when they did it,
- 54:29Speaker 1: granted it's a smaller sample size, they were very good
- 54:32Speaker 1: from it. The Bill's on a thirteen personnel last year,
- 54:34Speaker 1: which means one running back, three tight ends. They were
- 54:36Speaker 1: first in EPA per play, second in success rate, second
- 54:39Speaker 1: in EPA per pass, first in passing success rate, third
- 54:43Speaker 1: and explosive pass rate, which is passes or of fifteen
- 54:46Speaker 1: or more yards, third in EPA per rush, fourth in
- 54:50Speaker 1: rushing success rate, and second in explosive run rate, which
- 54:54Speaker 1: are runs of ten or more yards. You've got Kincaid,
- 54:59Speaker 1: You've got Knocks, You've got Hawes. Kincaid and Hawes are
- 55:02Speaker 1: a bit kind of the antithesis of one another, and
- 55:04Speaker 1: then you've got Dawson Knox who kind of bridges them
- 55:06Speaker 1: both right. He can do some pass catching stuff. He
- 55:09Speaker 1: can do some of the athleticism stuff that Kinkaid does.
- 55:12Speaker 1: He can also do some of the inline blocking stuff
- 55:14Speaker 1: that Jackson Hawes can do. So they've got this you know,
- 55:17Speaker 1: basketball lineup a tight end which works and with where
- 55:21Speaker 1: the league is going in thirteen, personnel became this weaponized
- 55:24Speaker 1: formation or personnel grouping, I should say, And you no
- 55:27Speaker 1: longer have Regie Gillium. The Bilseray diversified last year when
- 55:31Speaker 1: it came to their heavier personnel groupings. You got some twelve,
- 55:33Speaker 1: you got some thirteen, you got some twenty one, you
- 55:36Speaker 1: got some twenty two. Regie Gilliam's gone. So do you
- 55:40Speaker 1: lean into more twelve? Do you lean into more thirteen?
- 55:45Speaker 1: And if you do again we talked about some of
- 55:47Speaker 1: those schematic numbers from an alignment perspective and how that
- 55:50Speaker 1: ties into like Kincaid's skill set and who and what
- 55:53Speaker 1: he is. You know, if you're going thirteen, it probably
- 55:57Speaker 1: means Hawes and Knox are attached to the formation. Maybe
- 56:00Speaker 1: Kinkaid is hipped off of one of them further, or
- 56:02Speaker 1: maybe Kinkaid is split out wide right, or maybe he's
- 56:04Speaker 1: in the slot with another receiver, and you're getting creative
- 56:06Speaker 1: that way, if you're playing twelve personnel, is it really
- 56:10Speaker 1: more of like an eleven personnel type look? And again,
- 56:13Speaker 1: Kinkaid is in the slot, or Kinkaid is out wide,
- 56:15Speaker 1: or he's hipped off the inline tighten. There are ways
- 56:18Speaker 1: to get around everything, but it starts with his health
- 56:20Speaker 1: because what he is from a skill set and play
- 56:23Speaker 1: style standpoint, I don't think that's changing. He's never going
- 56:25Speaker 1: to be a consistently effective in line blocker against defensive
- 56:28Speaker 1: lineman and true box players like You're just not going
- 56:31Speaker 1: to get that from him. Yes, he can body a
- 56:33Speaker 1: nickel or an outside corner on an RPO bubble when
- 56:37Speaker 1: he's leading the way for Khalil security. Yes he can
- 56:40Speaker 1: block out on the perimeter, he can even dig out
- 56:42Speaker 1: of safety from time to time, but consistently blocking guys
- 56:47Speaker 1: effectively in the box defensive lineman like true box front players,
- 56:52Speaker 1: you're never going to see that from him. So we
- 56:55Speaker 1: already talked about kind of the alignment and the usage
- 56:59Speaker 1: cap that's on his scene and what that does to
- 57:01Speaker 1: the offense and kind of how that's a bit of
- 57:02Speaker 1: a tell.
- 57:03Speaker 2: So anything from a health.
- 57:04Speaker 1: Standpoint compounds the cap on his ceiling, even further, but
- 57:11Speaker 1: good to see he's out there.
- 57:13Speaker 2: He talks about how the knee feels better. He feels good.
- 57:15Speaker 1: He's getting a pretty regular offseason regimen, and it was
- 57:19Speaker 1: good to get those quotes from again Nixbatto of the
- 57:21Speaker 1: Niagarazette and the Cysopaccio of w GR just kind of
- 57:23Speaker 1: why he didn't get the surgery, why he is where
- 57:26Speaker 1: he is, what he's doing to kind of, you know,
- 57:28Speaker 1: stem things and move things forward. I still think King
- 57:31Speaker 1: Kaid is going to be an.
- 57:32Speaker 2: Important part, an important part of this offense.
- 57:37Speaker 1: RJ says, what you're saying is if Kincaid could block,
- 57:40Speaker 1: he would be Travis Kelcey oh Man. Oh, I don't
- 57:45Speaker 1: know who's more of an effective blocker. Yeah, that's a
- 57:49Speaker 1: fair man. That's interesting, interesting, interesting, interesting. Kent says, gladly
- 57:57Speaker 1: put money on the fact that Kinkaid is a way
- 57:59Speaker 1: better player than you are giving him credit for.
- 58:01Speaker 2: Are you saying that to me?
- 58:02Speaker 1: Because I think he's a good football player. But I
- 58:04Speaker 1: think all the limitations I brought up are super valid.
- 58:06Speaker 1: Like he's he's a tight end essentially in like name
- 58:10Speaker 1: and label only because of the limitations of what you
- 58:14Speaker 1: can do with him in line and from a blocking perspective,
- 58:17Speaker 1: doesn't mean he's a bad football player. Again, I think
- 58:19Speaker 1: he's a very good pass catcher, very fluid, good route runner,
- 58:22Speaker 1: good hands, good at making off frame catches. Like I said,
- 58:26Speaker 1: great feel for space zone, can beat man. I do
- 58:29Speaker 1: a bunch of things. But I don't think, Oh that's good.
- 58:33Speaker 1: If Kincaid could block, we'd be calling him Dalton blockade.
- 58:36Speaker 1: That is phenomenal, phenomenal. Oh, I'm seeing all that Dalton
- 58:40Speaker 1: band aid references. Oh that's rough.
- 58:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 58:43Speaker 1: I don't know if this common was to me or not,
- 58:45Speaker 1: but I or to the chat. But I think he's
- 58:48Speaker 1: a good football player. But the limitations I brought up
- 58:51Speaker 1: I think are all extremely fair, and they show up
- 58:53Speaker 1: on tape and the metrics speak to it even more.
- 58:56Speaker 1: But yeah, we'll see bomb. Last week's wanted to bring
- 59:01Speaker 1: up this is a kind of a bigger defense one
- 59:08Speaker 1: over all, but wanted to bring up quote from Terrell Bernard.
- 59:15Speaker 1: He was asked about some of the differences of what
- 59:17Speaker 1: he'll be doing in Jim Leonard's defense versus previous ones
- 59:20Speaker 1: in Buffalo, and he said, quote, the aspect of blitzing,
- 59:24Speaker 1: the aspect of being in coverage and having a guy
- 59:26Speaker 1: and staying on a guy and being able to kind
- 59:29Speaker 1: of flow to the ball end quote. So just some
- 59:33Speaker 1: more breadcrumbs of the Bills defense, you know, attacking more
- 59:36Speaker 1: this year, you know, him saying the aspect of blitzing,
- 59:38Speaker 1: him kind of calling that out right away as being
- 59:40Speaker 1: something different. Again we we've talked about on the show
- 59:43Speaker 1: him being a good bitzer blitzer going back to his
- 59:45Speaker 1: time at Baylor. This Bill's defense under Leonard probably being
- 59:48Speaker 1: more of a movement based defense. You're going to see
- 59:50Speaker 1: more blitzing and more gap shooting and triggering right off
- 59:53Speaker 1: the bat from Terrel Bernard, just because it's what the
- 59:55Speaker 1: play call is, and so him calling out that right
- 59:59Speaker 1: away the aspect of blitz more breadcrumbs are the Bill's
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: defense attacking more, and then him saying the aspect of
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: being in coverage and having a guy and staying on
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: a guy, that to me speaks to playing more match coverage,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: playing more man coverage under Jim Leonard. Both of those
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: things we expect to see more in this Bill's defense
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: then we saw previously under Sean McDermott. Just a couple
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: more bread crumbs to kind of push us in that
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: direction of like, hey, what is Jim Leonard's defense going
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: to be? And Bernard right away kind of calling out
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: the aspect of blitzing, the aspect of being in coverage
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: and having a guy and staying on a guy. I
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: thought those were important little bread crumbs there. Also, it
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: was interesting to hear Bernard just talk about how how
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: tough last year was for him and he was trying
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: to flush it and how difficult it was him trying
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: to you know, play through injury but not limit the
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: team and then get back to himself and you know,
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: still trying to lead and be a productive player, but
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: trying to manage the injury and trying to get through things.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: You could just.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: Tell how difficult last year was for him in a
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: variety of ways, and it showed on the field and
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: it kind of took a toll.
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: I think I'll for them off the field as well,
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: and mentally, I.
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: Think he's a guy with you know, an interesting spotlight
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: and focus on him this year because he had such
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: a down year last year. But I think a lot
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: of the struggles again, you know, he is going to
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: be an undersized linebacker. He is gonna have issues with
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: int your offensive lineman getting downhill on him. And in
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: a league where teams are running the ball right at
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: defenses more and more, his size and his skill set
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: and his traits can be a bit of a liability.
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: But I do think he is good enough to mitigate
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: that at times by beating blockers to spots and getting
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: around guys. But if you have a busted wheel like
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: he did last year, it's really hard for you to
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: beat guys to spots because you can't move.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: It's hard to get around guys when you can't move.
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: So we'll see how.
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: Much of bernard struggles last year were due to kind
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: of the changing of the league versus just his individual limitations.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: But I think this year can be a big yer.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: It'll be a big year for tro Bernard one way
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: or the other, because they committed to him financially. They
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: eat him to have a good year, So we'll see
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: kind of what he can be and what he can
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: do within this this defense and again little change in role,
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: I think it'll play to his skill set a bit more.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: I'm interested to see what what Bernard is So it
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: was interesting to get that peek into his mind of
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: how tough last year was. For him, but also get
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: those bread crumbs a little bit from the uh for
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: what the Bill's defense will be. Are just saying after
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: hearing the hearing Brady today, it sounds like the medical
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: team should have shut him down for the season.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it was.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: You could just see him laboring out there, like he
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: just he had a big time hitching his gide up,
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: like he just didn't look effective. He looked like he
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: was playing through a lot of pain and not only
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: playing through paint. He just he was just limited, Like
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: dude couldn't move and it was hurting people's perception of
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: him and it was hurting the defense.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: So yeah, he should have been shut down.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: But I mean, you could have made the case too
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: for a lot of that, like why is Spencer Brown
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: playing with one arm against the Texans and why are
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: they only calling five man protections and leaving him on
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: an island against Will Anderson and the Neil Hunter. So
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: there's a lot of weird injury things that were happening
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: last year. How they took care of guys or didn't.
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: Oh sorry, I click this back. So what did I say?
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: Kinkaid wasn't drafted in the first round because he was
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: such a good blocker. Agreed.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: I don't know if the eye roll here is to me.
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: I don't know if these comments are towards the Chad
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: or for me. Again, I think, yeah, Kinkay was drafted
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: in the first round because his patch catching ability. That
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: still doesn't change the fact that his usage is limited
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: because of what he is or isn't as a blocker.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: And then his injury history I think ties into it
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: even more so. I think part of the reason he
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: felt was because, I mean, he was injured through the
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: off season, draft process, combine process, testing process. He's had
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: a history of injuries. But no, Yeah, he's a past
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: cat catch first type of tight end, more wide receiver
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: than he is tight end. All that being said doesn't
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: mean he's a bad football player. It just means his
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: usage is limited. There are things that you cannot do
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: with him that you can a lot of other tight ends.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: Granted, there are.
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: Things you can do with him that not a lot
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: of other tight ends can do. And so it comes
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: down to would you rather have a glass cannon type
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: of build or would you rather have a defense first
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: type of build. Do you want to have armor and
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: you know, build up your resistance or do you want
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: to have an attack based type of dude, So, do
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: you want to have a pass catching tight end? Do
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: you want to have a run blocking tight end? Do
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: you want to meet them somewhere in the middle. Is
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: it sixty forty, is it's seventy thirty, is at eighty twenty?
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: So what kind of see? Oh, appreciate you?
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: Roy Right says the I roll was just a generality,
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: not for anyone appreciate Sean man No was saying this
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: that that was mcclappy for you. I don't know if
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: the Spencer Brown thing and the Bernard thing was necessarily
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: a McDermott call. Maybe the Bernard one was because because
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: McDermott was running the defense more at that point, But
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: they shut guys down if they're I don't know who
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: that was on the offense. I wouldn't necessarily put that
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: on McDermott Brown playing through injury and then them not
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: giving him support against the Texans. That's either on Joe
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: Brady or Aaron Cromer or both. So I don't think
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: that's a McDermott one question here. Are players physically just
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: unable to block or is it a willingness thing? Fricking kid.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: It's not willingness. He's a willing blocker. I think it's
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: two things. It's one technique to his size and frame
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: in his build, right, the same things that kind of
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: make him a good pass catching tight end, right, being
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: a little longer, being fluid, not being this like bulked up, stiff,
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: stiff type of mover. All of those things kind of
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: work against him as a as a blocker, even though
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: they work for him as a pass catcher. Right, So
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: not being too heavy, having some longer arms, being more fluid,
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: being more movement. He doesn't necessarily have that force and
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: that omph behind him when he makes contact with guys.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: He's more of he's more of like a lighter type
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: of guy when he makes contact with someone. And then
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: you pair that with not having the most sound technique.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: It's just tough for him to like get into guys.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: But again, I think you see like he's able to,
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: you know, mash on the perimeter against nickels and corners
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: because he is like a willing blocker, and then he
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: can use a size and length a bit more.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: I think it's just it's more into.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: His technique and then his his physical build and makeup.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: So yeah, I would say it's and again it's not
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: that he's unable to block. The effectiveness just varies based
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: on the body type and the role, like the type
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: of player that he's playing against. Right, So it's not
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: just about size, it's it's technique, it's his frame, it's
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: his build, and then how certain play styles or skill
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: sets can give him trouble. It's definitely not a willingness thing.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: He's not scared of contact. He's not soft. He is
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: a willing blocker. It's just that the aspects of his
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: size and build and frame that help him as a
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: pass catcher work against him as a blocker. And then
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: his technique isn't always sound and technique in and of itself.
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: If your technique isn't sound as a blocker, that's gonna
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: give you trouble. And then if there's like physical mitigators
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: attached to that as well, like there are for him,
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: it just kind of compounds, RJ said. Brandon Bean said
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: Sean McDermott had no quote control over the training and
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: medical staff they reported to Bean, So if anything, it
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: would be on Bean for guys not being shut down.
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: Good pull there, RJ.
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: A lot of people still have it out for Sean McDermott,
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: which I get it, but I think it's I think
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: it's just funny considering Bean was in lockstep with him
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: for a lot of these problems. But furthermore, is it
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: illegal to throw some chest and ankle weights on Kinkaid
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: during rundowns for some more half? Yeah, it probably is illegal,
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: But even if you could do it, I think people
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: would be like, oh, the ankle weights are on, here
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: comes the run. Or you could use that as like
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: the opposite of a tel. It'll be like, let's put
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: the ankle weights on them, then we're gonna run play action.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: I like that thought.
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: That's fair well done, well done.
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: But yeah, so those are again the main three takeaways
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: for me today are for me today were Hoyite, Landon Jackson,
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: and Dalton Kincaid. But I wanted to bring them back
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: to rel Bernard piece just because I think Bernard is
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: going to matter in this defense. I think everything for
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: this defense matters a lot in varying degrees, but I
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: think Bernard's plays a bit under a microscope year, and
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: so him giving in some insight into what last year
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: was form what this year could be for him was interesting,
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: but also again him provide some bread crumbs.
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: In terms of what this defense could be this year.
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: I think was a very important piece.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: If you have any final thoughts, questions, commons, concerns, feel
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: free to get them up in to the chat as
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: we start to wind down here one thing I never
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: wind down for. I only wind up for his The
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: best pizza in Buffalo, New York. One Pie Pizza. I
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: say they are the best not because they sponsor the show.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: They sponsor the show because I necessarily believe they are
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: the best pizza in Buffalo, New York. Homemade sweet sauce,
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: read sauce, delicious cupp and char pepperoni, a variety of
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: different toppings. You can get them chopped up and spread
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: evenly across the pie. They make their own homemade blue cheese.
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: They make a Bang and Breakfast pizza. They do a
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: lot of good with the community with all the drives
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: and initiatives they have throughout the year, partnering with the SPCA,
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: the Alzheimer's Foundation, partnering with Roswell to try and knock
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: out cancer toys for tots, and that drive that they
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: have every single holiday season. They also have a catering
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: division called Elevated Catering a Buffalo tremendous, tremendous food aside
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: from just pizza, like different kinds of mac and cheeses, chicken,
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: and rice dishes. They make great salads. I always point
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: that out because I do not like salad, but their
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: salads are really good. They're just really good people making
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: really good food. Again, I say this with the fair
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: amount of regularity, and it's not just a tagline. I've
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: said this all so much though, that it's started to
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: become a bit of a rhythm and routine for me.
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: But it's easy because their food just speaks for itself.
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: Their pizza is phenomenal, their customer service is great, and
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: then just you know, I've gotten to know the people
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: behind the scenes, and they're just quality people, quality people
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: making quality food. Get yourself from One Pie Pizza if
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: you live in Buffalo, if you're visiting, get yourself from
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: One Pie Pizza. If you're sad about the sabers, get
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: yourself some one Pie Pizza and feel better. If you're
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: sad about the bills, get yourself to One Pi Pizza
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: and make yourself feel better. Or if you're happy amplify
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: that happiness by getting some delicious one pie pizza.
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: I love the RJ says here or just says.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: I got a gig in Buffalo again in a couple
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: of weeks, so of course I'm hitting up one pie
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: as usual, RJ. I will need the obligatory tweets at
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: me when you get one pie. I need pictures. I
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: want to know what you got. If it's the same
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: pie as last time, that's fine. If it's a different one, cool, Yeah,
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: please do let me know and RJ, Yeah, RJ can
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: speak to it. If your regular I viewer and watch
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: with the show, RJ comes into town, he's gotten one
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: pie and he talks about being the best pizza that
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: he's ever had. And he's just saying that out of
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: the kindness and goodness of his heart and because his
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: taste buds respected the greatness. Get yourself some one pie pizza.
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: Whether you live in Buffalo, whether you are outside of Buffalo,
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: if you're visiting, if you live here, whatever, have you
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: get yourself.
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: From one pie pizza.
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: You will not be disappointed if you get some one
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: pie pizza.
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: H I want to get some.
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: What's this coming down here? Greg says oh, I'm gonna
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: go back. Argie says, I think we're gonna try their
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: buffalo chicken pizza this time. I always try something different
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: each time as possible. Buffalo Chicken slaps you will, you
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: can not go wrong, but with go whatever direction your
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: heart tells you. But yeah, the Buffalo chicken slaps absolutely.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: Man. Now I'm hungry and I want pizza.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: Greg says, oh, this is good from James, who says,
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: be good too good. Get yourself on one pipe. Well done, James,
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: that's a good one. It's a good tag line. Greg
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: says the Bills could have had could have twenty million
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: available to cut Palmer. Wouldn't they to get another linebacker
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: or on a player cut from another team?
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: M I don't think they could get that.
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: I mean, well, if they cut him this year, they're
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: gonna get a bunch of dead cap. Like he's not
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: set up to be cut this year in any way,
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: shape or form. If they cut him before June first,
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: it's a dead cap of fourteen mil, a cap savings
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: of negative two point five. If they released him after
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: June first this year, they would only save two point
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: three mil, and they'd have nine point four in dead
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: cap year and four point eight in dead capt next year.
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: If they managed to trade him after June first for
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: this year, they would save ten point ten point two
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: essentially million this offseason, and then one point six in
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: dead cap this offseason, four point next year four point.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: Eight next year.
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: So they could save ten point two million if they
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: traded him this offseason at this point, but it's not twenty.
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: It would be ten. They do have an out next year.
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: I've talked about it a bunch on this show, Like
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: if they designate him as a post June first cut
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: next year, they'll save eight mil. And it's only a
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: dead cap hit of one point six next offseason in
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: three point two in twenty twenty eight, and that's the
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: same for a trade as well.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: So not quite as high as twenty. It is closer
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: to ten.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: But you know, if they were to somehow trade him
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: and then save ten ten that ten million, sure they
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: could try to get another linebacker or a player cut
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: from another team. I think they're in general still looking
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: at that market. I still feel like the opportunity of
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: Shaq Thompson to come back, maybe even Mat Milano, but
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: I think more Shaq Thompson. I think Shack could come back.
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: I think Trey White could even potentially come back. I
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: do think they're keeping an eye on former Bills who
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: are still on the market and or a player cut
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: from another team. So I do think that's a good
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: a good call out there, like whether it's trying to
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: get another linebacker or just a player cut from another team.
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: I do think they're kind of keeping an eye on
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: that market to be like, Okay, who's getting cut, who's
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: getting dropped?
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: This is what the cost will be.
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: It doesn't cost us this in draft capital, doesn't cost
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: us this financially. So I think they're looking at its
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: supposed to specifically linebacker. I do still think they are
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: open and trying to get a Shaq Thompson deal done.
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: I think Matt Malone's potential as well. But yeah, I
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: think the opportunity of you all player cut from another team,
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: it's fair, fair, fair, fair fair fair. Are you contractually
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: allowed to tell us the other top five piece of
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: places in your ranking?
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: Oh? I don't know. If I have a top five.
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: My it'd be hard for me to parse three, four
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: and five. Number two is Bella Pizza and Lakajuana. That
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: is my second favorite to one pie. I also think
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: Lenova does good pizza, specifically the one here in the
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: North Towns on Main Street off of the ninety right
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: there before you get to the right after you get
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: to the big blue water Tower pass that I should say,
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: depending on which direction you're going. But yeah, one pie
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: clears the board is at number one in its own thing.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: One pie is in its own tier at number one.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: Bella Pizza in Lakajuana on Abbott or No South Park,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: South Park, I believe yeah, is in its own tier
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: is number two. And then I'd have to figure out
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: what three, four and five are. But yeah, one pie
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: is clear number one by itself. Bella Pizza is number
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: two by itself. I'd have to figure everything out. Yeah,
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: Bella is good, It'll be a Baci makes a decent pizza.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: I have to costos can be fine. I'd have to
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: figure everything else out. But one pie standalone is the one.
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: Bella is the standalone too. I love bell like Bella
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: was my favorite for forever and then I had one pie.
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: It took a lot for someone to surpass Bella because
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: I think Bella was that good.
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: Bum bum bum bum bum bum bum.
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: Oh yeah, this definitely helps. I think we'll get one.
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: You gotta try one pie, man, it's super good. I'm
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: telling you you will not go Rock Royce.
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: Says Number three is to geno makes a good pizza.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: And it's old. It's not delivery. You don't have to
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: go anywhere. It's already in your house. That works.
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: Uh, Ralph say, is that a picture of rich Stadium
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: in the early eighties. There's nobody in the seats.
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: No, there's that's during a game. You just can't tell
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: from Uh, I guess being like streamed. No, that that's
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: a full game going on.
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: And then there's because there's players on the sideline there
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: players on the sideline on the other side. And then
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: the stadium's full. So no, that's a that's a full
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: Rich stadium there. And also what I would like the
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: Bills field to go back to. I want the red
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: end zones with that Bill's font, and then I also
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: want the AFC logo next to the red helmet in
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: the center. That's what I'm looking for. I want that
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: aesthetic back on the natural grass field in the new stadium.
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: That would be amazing.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: Give me the red end zones with that font, give
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: me the AFC logo with the Red Bill's helmet in
