Russell Davis Jr., Wilmington’s pioneering civil rights lawyer and community advocate, passed away at 60 after a lifetime of fighting for justice. From breaking racial barriers as North Carolina’s first Black assistant district attorney to founding his own law firm and later serving as an assistant public defender, Davis embodied unwavering dedication to equity. His legacy lives on through his family, friends, and the causes he championed—donate in his honor to the Southern Poverty Law Center or ACLU.
