The USS Silversides, America’s most decorated WWII submarine still afloat, is getting a major restoration—its first dry dock in 50 years—after being moved to a Wisconsin shipyard. This $3.5 million project, funded in part by a Save America’s Treasures grant, will clean, inspect, and protect the historic vessel ahead of its return to Muskegon by mid-October. Once a Pacific war hero credited with sinking massive enemy tonnage and earning 12 battle stars, the Silversides is being meticulously preserved so future generations can honor its legacy.
