- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another episode of Learn Dutch with Fexingo? Luna: Absolutely! I've been practicing those prepositions from last time. Tussen, tegen, bij... I think I've got them. Lucas: That's great. Today we're going to add two more prepositions that are super useful. Met and zonder. Luna: Met and zonder. I think I've heard those before. Met means 'with' and zonder means 'without', right? Lucas: Exactly! You're already ahead. And you know, if Fexingo has been helping you learn Dutch, listeners can support the show at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It keeps us ad-free and helps us make more episodes. Luna: Yeah, every little bit helps. And we appreciate everyone who does. So, met and zonder. Let's put them to use. Lucas: Alright. Let's start with a common phrase: Ik wil koffie met melk. That means 'I want coffee with milk.' Luna: Ik wil koffie met melk. So met is 'with'. Lucas: Perfect. Now try saying 'I want a coffee without sugar.' That would be Ik wil koffie zonder suiker. Luna: Ik wil koffie zonder suiker. Zonder suiker. That's 'without sugar'. Lucas: Yes! And a very common question in Dutch cafés is: Met of zonder suiker? 'With or without sugar?' Luna: Oh, I can answer that! Met suiker, please. No, I mean, met suiker, alstublieft. Lucas: You've got it. So met and zonder are used a lot with food and drinks. Another example: Ik wil een brood zonder kaas. 'I want a bread without cheese.' Luna: Ik wil een brood zonder kaas. Hmm, but what if I want cheese? Then it's met kaas? Lucas: Exactly! Ik wil een brood met kaas. So you can swap met and zonder depending on what you want. Luna: This is so practical. I can already imagine ordering at a bakery. 'Ik wil een brood met kaas, alstublieft.' Lucas: Perfect. Now let's practice a little scene. Imagine we're at a market. You want to buy apples. How do you say 'I want apples without the bag'? Luna: Uhh... Ik wil appels zonder de tas? Is tas bag? Lucas: Close! Tas is bag, yes. But we usually say zak. So: Ik wil appels zonder zak. Luna: Ik wil appels zonder zak. Got it. And if I want them with a bag, it's met zak. Lucas: Yes! Now you're using met and zonder naturally. Let's do one more round. Listen and repeat: Met of zonder ijs? That's 'with or without ice'. Luna: Met of zonder ijs? I think I'd like met ijs, especially in summer. Lucas: Good choice. So today we learned met and zonder. Super useful prepositions. Try using them next time you order something. Luna: I will. Thanks Lucas. And listeners, keep practicing! Tot de volgende keer! Lucas: Tot de volgende keer. See you next time on Learn Dutch with Fexingo.
