- 0:09Speaker 1: Welcome to the Favorites presented by DraftKings.
- 0:12Speaker 2: The Crown is yours. Back at it for the third
- 0:14Speaker 2: time this week.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I'm your host Brandon Kravitz, back at it with the
- 0:18Speaker 1: first Lady of the Pod, Kendrim Middleton, the Prime Minister
- 0:20Speaker 1: of DJEN Nation. Stucky is back in the cut as well.
- 0:24Speaker 1: We have a conversation to get to with Tyler Metcalf
- 0:27Speaker 1: from No Ceilings NBA talking mock drafts and what we
- 0:32Speaker 1: can expect to see come.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Tuesday's NBA drafts.
- 0:37Speaker 1: We had some shenanigans play out with the New York
- 0:42Speaker 1: Knicks and their parade. Do we have an update on
- 0:45Speaker 1: how our producer Gifford Gold. You guys can't see he's
- 0:49Speaker 1: in the background of our episodes, but an important cog
- 0:52Speaker 1: to the Wheel tried to He's not on because he
- 0:55Speaker 1: tried to go to the parade yesterday and I think
- 0:59Speaker 1: he's still trying to make his way back.
- 1:01Speaker 3: So I'm assuming that Gifford took a day of PTO
- 1:04Speaker 3: for this. But I checked in with him and I said, Gifford,
- 1:06Speaker 3: did you get into this parade? And his response was
- 1:09Speaker 3: just not even close to which I followed up what happened,
- 1:13Speaker 3: and he's been typing for five minutes and has said nothing.
- 1:16Speaker 3: So I'm assuming I'm about to get a novel about
- 1:19Speaker 3: whatever has happened in New York City. So when I
- 1:22Speaker 3: get it. If I get it, I will update you guys.
- 1:25Speaker 3: He is still typing. I sent this a Yeah, he's
- 1:28Speaker 3: been typing for ten minutes.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Now ten minutes. I don't think he's been typing for
- 1:32Speaker 2: ten minutes.
- 1:34Speaker 3: I sent the first one. I know.
- 1:37Speaker 1: How the bubble technology works, like do you actually have
- 1:40Speaker 1: to be typing or or do you just need the
- 1:43Speaker 1: app up on your phone?
- 1:45Speaker 3: Okay, he goes, I.
- 1:46Speaker 4: Just want to ask you a question. I always wonder
- 1:47Speaker 4: that too.
- 1:49Speaker 3: It actually, if you're typing, it's as long as you
- 1:51Speaker 3: have like the bubble up. If you pull it down,
- 1:54Speaker 3: then it doesn't show you're typing. Does that make sense? Yeah,
- 1:58Speaker 3: I actually know this answer, He goes. I just went
- 2:01Speaker 3: into the area for a bit to be around. But
- 2:03Speaker 3: before I even left, the viewing area's rack capacity. I'm
- 2:05Speaker 3: getting back now. I'm assuming that means to his house.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Just give up, just give up, KEIV, like what everyone did.
- 2:15Speaker 1: We we've been we've been sort of ping ponging vacations
- 2:19Speaker 1: here on the Favorites the last couple of weeks. So
- 2:21Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to getting back to this before we
- 2:23Speaker 1: get to our NBA Draft discussion with Tyler Metcalf.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Stucky, you got a question for us. Hey, this is
- 2:28Speaker 2: a dumb question.
- 2:31Speaker 4: Let me ask you a personal question kind.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Of question is that this question?
- 2:36Speaker 5: Let's go with if you got arrested. So popped up
- 2:41Speaker 5: on the local news that you were arrested. So it
- 2:43Speaker 5: said Brandon Kravitz was arrested, Kendrick Middleton was arrested. That's
- 2:48Speaker 5: all it said. Stucky was arrested. What would your family
- 2:52Speaker 5: and friends assume was the reason? So if they had
- 2:57Speaker 5: a guess, Yes, those closest to you, Hey, Brandon got arrested.
- 3:01Speaker 4: We don't know why yet. What do you why do
- 3:03Speaker 4: you think he got arrested?
- 3:05Speaker 1: Uh?
- 3:06Speaker 4: What do you think would be their first thought?
- 3:08Speaker 5: Mine's easy, it would be something betting related, especially since
- 3:14Speaker 5: my mom. We're gonna ask the closest. My mom still
- 3:17Speaker 5: thinks like when I left my finance career to start action,
- 3:22Speaker 5: my mom thought and still thinks that I'm an a
- 3:25Speaker 5: legal bookie like she just it's just she can't grasp
- 3:30Speaker 5: that like do sports betting content and uh so like
- 3:34Speaker 5: every once in a while, so just ask like am
- 3:36Speaker 5: I am I in trouble or am I still good?
- 3:40Speaker 4: So like she still thinks I just left.
- 3:42Speaker 1: She's like, don't give me it. Don't give me any
- 3:44Speaker 1: information on this. I just need to know you're healthy.
- 3:46Speaker 5: So like her, basically, her viewpoint of the of the
- 3:50Speaker 5: betting world is just like illegal stuff and people and
- 3:53Speaker 5: you're just a bookie and then that's that's it. That's
- 3:55Speaker 5: like the only job you can have in betting is
- 3:58Speaker 5: you're a bookie. So ah, my mom would certainly think
- 4:02Speaker 5: that I got arrested for a legal book making and
- 4:04Speaker 5: she would be like, I knew it this while I
- 4:07Speaker 5: knew you should have never gone into this industry. So
- 4:10Speaker 5: that's what my mom would have thought. Brandon, how about
- 4:12Speaker 5: you you have a did you ever first.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Got I think it would be I think it would
- 4:16Speaker 1: be theft, something I've been paranoid about for years. I
- 4:20Speaker 1: probably shuldn't even admit on the podcast. We'll just go
- 4:22Speaker 1: ahead and do it. Anyway, this happened, I mean this
- 4:25Speaker 1: had to be. It was as well, over fifteen years.
- 4:27Speaker 5: You and your friend used to rob what a little
- 4:31Speaker 5: at the What were those things you used to steal
- 4:33Speaker 5: for fun?
- 4:34Speaker 2: Oh the little Nautica tags?
- 4:36Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, Well so this involves theft too, So I
- 4:39Speaker 1: guess theft would be the If we just said just
- 4:41Speaker 1: just a general theme of what would you'd be arrested for,
- 4:44Speaker 1: I guess it would be theft. I'm not a cleptomaniac,
- 4:47Speaker 1: but I pulled up to a bank ATM once and
- 4:51Speaker 1: it said on the drive through, would you like to
- 4:55Speaker 1: make another transaction? And I was a broke college student
- 5:00Speaker 1: at the time. This was over fifteen years ago. I've
- 5:02Speaker 1: been in media for fifteen years, so this was like
- 5:04Speaker 1: twenty years ago, and it said, would you like to
- 5:07Speaker 1: make another transaction? I had no money to my name,
- 5:09Speaker 1: so I said yes, and then I hit the I
- 5:15Speaker 1: wanted the balance inquiry to know if I was going
- 5:17Speaker 1: to take any funds if this person and this person
- 5:20Speaker 1: was doing very well for themselves. So I took one
- 5:23Speaker 1: hundred dollars out of the bank. Okay, I don't feel
- 5:25Speaker 1: good about it. I've been paranoid about it ever since.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I there's a little part of me that thinks that
- 5:30Speaker 1: to this day, they are going to lock me up
- 5:32Speaker 1: for this.
- 5:33Speaker 5: I have a funny story about ATMs I was in
- 5:36Speaker 5: I was probably like eighteen or nineteen, and I was
- 5:38Speaker 5: in Atlantic City with a bunch of my friends and
- 5:42Speaker 5: we were at the casino and we were just betting.
- 5:46Speaker 5: We were playing like Roulade and just a bunch of nonsense.
- 5:50Speaker 5: And one of my friends went over to the ATM
- 5:54Speaker 5: and it was just spitting out that you would take
- 6:00Speaker 5: out like a hundred and then it would just give
- 6:03Speaker 5: you I think, I forget the amounts it. We'd give
- 6:04Speaker 5: you like five times the amount.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Uh.
- 6:08Speaker 4: So they I didn't have my debit card.
- 6:11Speaker 5: I just brought a bunch of cash that I was like,
- 6:13Speaker 5: this is what I'm coming, I'm gonna gamble with.
- 6:15Speaker 4: So I didn't have my debit card.
- 6:16Speaker 5: I was so pissed and so jealous, and they just
- 6:21Speaker 5: kept going and taking out money. And this is like
- 6:24Speaker 5: the worst possible thing that can happen if if there
- 6:26Speaker 5: are repercussions because you're taking out money and then just
- 6:29Speaker 5: you're sitting in a casino floor thinking you're with free money.
- 6:32Speaker 5: So the line ended up being massive before they caught
- 6:35Speaker 5: on and shut it down. What ended up happening is
- 6:38Speaker 5: they blew all this money betting and then the bank
- 6:43Speaker 5: reversed all of it, and then a lot of them
- 6:47Speaker 5: got like charged like overdraft fees and they lost double
- 6:51Speaker 5: their Yeah, they lost it. And then they just had
- 6:54Speaker 5: the money thinking it was free, and then just blew
- 6:56Speaker 5: it on and roulette, so it ended up being a nightmare.
- 6:58Speaker 5: I was so relieved that I didn't have my debit card,
- 7:01Speaker 5: but when you know, I had a couple of drinks
- 7:02Speaker 5: and I was like, and everyone is just taking out
- 7:04Speaker 5: free money on the casino floor and I didn't bring
- 7:06Speaker 5: my debit card. I'm like, this is awful, but I'm
- 7:10Speaker 5: so happy that I didn't have it. Then, So yeah,
- 7:12Speaker 5: they there's no free lunches, just a temper.
- 7:16Speaker 1: A house always wins, don't steal from banks. I'm surprised
- 7:19Speaker 1: that I got away from it. Can I guess Kendra's
- 7:23Speaker 1: I was.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Gonna make you guys guess because for me, this is easy.
- 7:26Speaker 3: But I want to know what you guys think.
- 7:28Speaker 1: I'm thinking like some protesting something protests could definitely be it.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Like there's like I.
- 7:36Speaker 5: Pushed a cop who was trying to subdue her. Protesting
- 7:40Speaker 5: like shrimp writes or something.
- 7:44Speaker 1: An exotic animal adoption facility that doesn't handle their business right,
- 7:50Speaker 1: and she just goes in and steals.
- 7:53Speaker 3: I was literally going to say, I think that this
- 7:56Speaker 3: is the easiest thing ever. It would be domesticating an
- 7:59Speaker 3: animal that I'm not a out to in Massachusetts, or
- 8:01Speaker 3: for boarding animals of some sort, ding ding ding winner.
- 8:06Speaker 3: That's exactly what I was going to say, easiest question
- 8:08Speaker 3: of all time. Protesting also true, but I do leave
- 8:11Speaker 3: my phone at home when I go to protest so
- 8:12Speaker 3: that I can't be tracked. Also update on Gifford.
- 8:16Speaker 4: He didn't get into.
- 8:16Speaker 3: The pariode, so he straight up fucking went home.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Amazing.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Come on, where's the stick to itiveness? Gifford?

- 9:11Speaker 1: You've got three hundred pages of in depth scouting reports.
- 9:15Speaker 1: This is one of my go to sites for all
- 9:17Speaker 1: things NBA Draft. And the founder of that great site, podcast,
- 9:21Speaker 1: YouTube channel, all of that is Tyler Metcalf. He joins
- 9:25Speaker 1: us now in the favorite podcast What's Up Tyler?
- 9:28Speaker 6: Hey, guys, good to be with you.
- 9:30Speaker 2: This is an exciting time of year.
- 9:32Speaker 1: This is a draft class that I'm sure you have
- 9:34Speaker 1: been waiting for and breaking down for quite some time.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Do you think it lives up to the billing?
- 9:41Speaker 6: Yeah, it has every chance to be one of the
- 9:46Speaker 6: historically special draft classes, and the top three guys AJ,
- 9:50Speaker 6: Darren Cam everyone knows about them at this point. But
- 9:53Speaker 6: then just the amount of point guard talent, the big depth,
- 9:57Speaker 6: like there's real legitimate talent one through thirty. Second round
- 10:01Speaker 6: obviously falls off a little bit like it always does,
- 10:04Speaker 6: but there are a lot of seniors who are going
- 10:06Speaker 6: to be able to make an impact and you know,
- 10:08Speaker 6: provide some value in that range as well. So I
- 10:12Speaker 6: know it feels a little weird this being like the
- 10:14Speaker 6: smallest early entry pool we've ever had in the NBA Draft,
- 10:18Speaker 6: but there is so so much talent here.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Before we go deeper down the board, I got to
- 10:23Speaker 1: know where you land on the great debate at the
- 10:25Speaker 1: top AJ DEBONSA Darren Peterson, Which side do you land
- 10:30Speaker 1: on as far as who you like better, not necessarily
- 10:33Speaker 1: who gets drafted first.
- 10:35Speaker 6: Yeah, And I have all three of those guys in
- 10:37Speaker 6: the same tier, you know, I think they're very good
- 10:39Speaker 6: arguments for all three. I've had Darren at one all year.
- 10:42Speaker 6: I'm not going to move off that. He's one of
- 10:44Speaker 6: the best guard prospects I've ever scouted since I've been
- 10:47Speaker 6: doing this, and I would be very, very, very excited
- 10:51Speaker 6: to build my franchise around him.
- 10:54Speaker 3: If you had to compare kind of the hype of
- 10:56Speaker 3: this draft class to a draft class prior, who would
- 10:58Speaker 3: you shout out?
- 11:00Speaker 6: And in totality it does kind of feel like the
- 11:03Speaker 6: Wimby Draft a little bit. Now. Wimby carried a lot
- 11:07Speaker 6: of that hype, but there was a lot of excitement
- 11:09Speaker 6: with Brandon Miller with Scoot Henderson. Scoots gotten off to
- 11:14Speaker 6: a little bit slower of a start than those other
- 11:15Speaker 6: two and especially Wemby obviously, But like when we look
- 11:19Speaker 6: at like a big three and it it feels a
- 11:22Speaker 6: lot like that. It feels a lot like how people
- 11:24Speaker 6: were trying to build up the Kate Cunningham, Evan Mobley,
- 11:28Speaker 6: Jalen Green trio. Who you know, we were really excited
- 11:31Speaker 6: about those, you know, top three guys, not quite to
- 11:34Speaker 6: this extent, but pretty similar.
- 11:37Speaker 3: I know we're going to move down the board, but
- 11:39Speaker 3: I want to stick to kind of these top three
- 11:41Speaker 3: guys for a second. Who would you say is the
- 11:43Speaker 3: safest bed to become a superstar and who has the
- 11:45Speaker 3: biggest bust risk?
- 11:48Speaker 6: Safeest bed is Cam Boozer. The guy just thinks the
- 11:52Speaker 6: game differently, and he's so so smart on both ends
- 11:56Speaker 6: of the floor. And he's a six nine and fifty
- 12:00Speaker 6: pound point guard basically just like when you look at
- 12:02Speaker 6: his usage, his scoring load, and like his playmaking responsibilities
- 12:06Speaker 6: at Duke last year, he's basically their point guard. If
- 12:08Speaker 6: you take him off that Duke team, they're pretty awful.
- 12:13Speaker 6: Biggest bust potential, I mean, I don't think any of
- 12:16Speaker 6: these guys are going to flat out bust necessarily, But
- 12:19Speaker 6: I think there's a lot of variance with aj Debonsa.
- 12:24Speaker 6: Does he continue to grow as a playmaker? He did
- 12:26Speaker 6: this year at BYU, but there's still a lot of
- 12:28Speaker 6: work to be done there. Does the outside shot continue
- 12:30Speaker 6: to improve and get a little more consistent of a
- 12:32Speaker 6: weapon for him? He has to continue to get more
- 12:35Speaker 6: of an arc on it. I think he does, or
- 12:38Speaker 6: I think he will, but we still have to see it.
- 12:40Speaker 6: And then the defense with him super super inconsistent when
- 12:44Speaker 6: it's right, he looks incredible, has all the tools, but
- 12:47Speaker 6: has to clean up a lot of really bad habits
- 12:49Speaker 6: on that end.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Were you surprised that Debonza chose BYU. I was definitely
- 12:55Speaker 3: one of the people who was a little surprised, not
- 12:57Speaker 3: just from kind of a development perspective, but when you're
- 13:00Speaker 3: a young kid who's going to be making all this
- 13:01Speaker 3: nil money, who the hell wants to go play in
- 13:05Speaker 3: Utah with the Mormons. No offense to any Mormons out there,
- 13:08Speaker 3: I just was super surprised when this was the hat
- 13:12Speaker 3: that he decided to wear. Do you think that that
- 13:15Speaker 3: helped or hindered him? Were you surprised. I just think
- 13:17Speaker 3: that his development could have had a little bit higher
- 13:19Speaker 3: of a projection had he gone somewhere else.
- 13:22Speaker 6: I mean, I wasn't totally shocked, just because there were
- 13:24Speaker 6: so many links, especially once he transferred out to Utah
- 13:28Speaker 6: Prep from Prolific, and you know, the Jazz owner has
- 13:32Speaker 6: basically been funding that BYU NIL collective rather aggressively these
- 13:38Speaker 6: last couple of years. So he got rewarded handsomely for
- 13:42Speaker 6: that decision, and he got to go into a spit
- 13:44Speaker 6: to a program who had coaches with NBA experience and
- 13:49Speaker 6: NBA ties and be really right up close for one
- 13:54Speaker 6: of the teams that he expected to potentially have that
- 13:56Speaker 6: first pick with the Utah Jazz. So I think there
- 14:00Speaker 6: are a lot of connections there, obviously the Angels going
- 14:03Speaker 6: back to you know, AJ grew up around Boston and
- 14:07Speaker 6: the Angels were in Boston forever, So I think there
- 14:10Speaker 6: were a lot of ties. There's a lot of incentives
- 14:13Speaker 6: for AJ to make that move, and he got to
- 14:15Speaker 6: go into a system that does mirror a lot of
- 14:19Speaker 6: what NBA teams run with coaches who have NBA experience.
- 14:24Speaker 5: Yeah, that b be WAYU staff is certainly sharp and
- 14:26Speaker 5: they they definitely have a war chest. But I'm going
- 14:28Speaker 5: to talk move a little bit down the board and
- 14:31Speaker 5: talk about some guards. Darius a Cuff, he's plus one
- 14:35Speaker 5: point thirty to go past the sixth pick. His his
- 14:40Speaker 5: scoring prowess just is undeniable, but his defense leaves a
- 14:45Speaker 5: lot to be desired. It's been picked apart a ton
- 14:47Speaker 5: and rightfully, so curious your thoughts on a Cuff and
- 14:53Speaker 5: whether the concerns they.
- 14:54Speaker 4: Are are legit.
- 14:55Speaker 6: If you're taking the optimistic view, it's hey, he had
- 14:58Speaker 6: to do everything on offense. He was the engine that
- 15:00Speaker 6: drove everything. So there's only so much energy that he
- 15:03Speaker 6: can expend throughout a game, and that was all diverted
- 15:07Speaker 6: towards the offensive end. And if he got in foul trouble,
- 15:11Speaker 6: their offense was rough when he was off the court,
- 15:13Speaker 6: So it's like, all right, savior, energy for offense, don't
- 15:15Speaker 6: get in foul trouble. And that resulted in some pretty
- 15:19Speaker 6: awful defense. Now, if you're taking a little more pessimistic view,
- 15:23Speaker 6: which I lean a little more towards, especially on the
- 15:25Speaker 6: defensive end, he's just a bad defender. Like the technique
- 15:29Speaker 6: isn't great. He dies on screens, you know, he has
- 15:33Speaker 6: some of the tools where it's like, oh maybe if
- 15:35Speaker 6: we're if everything goes right and he really commits to
- 15:37Speaker 6: that end of the floor, he can at least be
- 15:40Speaker 6: a competent defender. I don't quite see it. I feel
- 15:43Speaker 6: like we've never really seen that consistently from him, even
- 15:45Speaker 6: going back to high school. But I think he might
- 15:48Speaker 6: be one of these rare guys where the offense is
- 15:50Speaker 6: just so good that it doesn't matter, Like you're not
- 15:52Speaker 6: drafting Darius Acuff to be a point of a tech
- 15:54Speaker 6: defender if he can just get to a point where
- 15:57Speaker 6: he's not a massive negative on that end of the floor.
- 16:01Speaker 6: The offense was so so good at Arkansas this year,
- 16:04Speaker 6: between the three level scoring, the playmaking, the ball security,
- 16:08Speaker 6: the playmaking volume, the outside shooting both on and off ball.
- 16:12Speaker 6: It was really really impressive of what he did this year,
- 16:14Speaker 6: which I was not expecting at all.
- 16:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm curious to see if you can get to
- 16:18Speaker 5: just a satisfactory level because he was on that in
- 16:21Speaker 5: the Floyda' is a massive liability at the college level,
- 16:24Speaker 5: so I mean, when you're talking about the NBA level,
- 16:28Speaker 5: that could be a bit of a nightmare. Also, Kingston Flemings.
- 16:31Speaker 5: He was consistently, I believe, mocked in the top five
- 16:34Speaker 5: for a while, he slid a bit. Curious to get
- 16:38Speaker 5: your thoughts on him and where his stock stands as
- 16:41Speaker 5: of now.
- 16:43Speaker 6: It seems like everyone loves the person, just like the leadership,
- 16:47Speaker 6: the intangibles, the mentality, the willingness to be coached and
- 16:51Speaker 6: be better supermature kid. But it also kind of sounds
- 16:54Speaker 6: like everyone I keep asking is like, which one of
- 16:56Speaker 6: these point guards is going to fall because you know,
- 16:58Speaker 6: not tumble down the board, but slip out of like
- 17:01Speaker 6: that potential top ten range. Because we're not going to
- 17:03Speaker 6: get a run of five straight point guards. Someone's going
- 17:05Speaker 6: to break it up. Someone's going to fall down a
- 17:07Speaker 6: couple spots, and I think it could be Kingston Fleming's.
- 17:11Speaker 6: And I think there's a lot of questions about his
- 17:14Speaker 6: scoring capabilities and scoring versatility and shooting. The raw percentage
- 17:19Speaker 6: was solid, the free throw numbers were good, but it
- 17:22Speaker 6: was really low volume. The form is funky, and if
- 17:24Speaker 6: he can't shoot it from outside, that's just going to
- 17:27Speaker 6: allow defenders to go under screens and take away that
- 17:29Speaker 6: superpower of his which is getting downhill, rising up in
- 17:32Speaker 6: the mid range. And then which what makes matters even
- 17:35Speaker 6: a little more confusing is that he was really didn't
- 17:38Speaker 6: get to the rim as much as you would expect
- 17:39Speaker 6: for someone who's as quick as he was. So there's
- 17:43Speaker 6: a lot to love on defense. Really smart, dynamic playmaker.
- 17:47Speaker 6: If you buy the shot, then I think he could
- 17:49Speaker 6: be a massive steal if he slips past you know, eight, nine,
- 17:52Speaker 6: ten range. But he's still going to have to prove
- 17:55Speaker 6: that he can shoot it from outside or get to
- 17:57Speaker 6: the rim a little more consistently because at the NBA level,
- 18:01Speaker 6: he's just not going to be able to live in
- 18:02Speaker 6: the mid range like he did at Houston this year.
- 18:04Speaker 4: Yeah, and lastly, MIKEL.
- 18:06Speaker 5: Brown, he's I believe I've seen some rumblings that then
- 18:12Speaker 5: he's linked to the Nets. And I was speaking with
- 18:16Speaker 5: my colleague, you're familiar with Matt Moore, who said, are
- 18:20Speaker 5: the Nets really going to draft another guard? What are
- 18:24Speaker 5: your thoughts on Brown and his potential landing spot.
- 18:27Speaker 4: With the Nets?
- 18:27Speaker 5: Who, by the way, who's going to become a Nets fan?
- 18:30Speaker 2: Now?
- 18:30Speaker 4: I mean over then, how are you ever going to?
- 18:32Speaker 4: The Nets? Are so bad? The Nicks just want to
- 18:34Speaker 4: check out the Nets? Going to ever? Get a new fan.
- 18:38Speaker 6: They won't, but you know that's not my problem. I
- 18:43Speaker 6: love Michael. I think he's the best point guard in
- 18:45Speaker 6: this class, at least as like as an NBA prospect.
- 18:50Speaker 6: Darius A. Cuff had the best season. I think Michael
- 18:53Speaker 6: Brown is the best point guard prospect in this draft.
- 18:56Speaker 6: Love the size, the athleticism. I think he's going to
- 18:58Speaker 6: get a lot stronger, which is going to improve so
- 19:01Speaker 6: much of his game. He has to clean up the
- 19:03Speaker 6: decision making, both the turnovers and shot selection. But the
- 19:07Speaker 6: guy's a nasty shooter, legit athlete, has some real serious
- 19:10Speaker 6: vertical pop three level score really good around the rim
- 19:14Speaker 6: and drew a ton of fouls around the rim as well,
- 19:16Speaker 6: which was the big concern with him coming into the year.
- 19:20Speaker 6: And if I'm the nut time taking the best player
- 19:22Speaker 6: on my board, whoever's there, I'm not worried about taking
- 19:25Speaker 6: another guard, you know, bet Ben Sarah, if Nolan, Treyri.
- 19:29Speaker 6: They showed some flashes. Yegor Demon had a really good year,
- 19:32Speaker 6: but I think he can be pivoted more into like
- 19:34Speaker 6: a secondary creator wing role where you can because of
- 19:38Speaker 6: how much the shot improved this last year. So and
- 19:41Speaker 6: I think Mikel Brown is someone who can fit in
- 19:43Speaker 6: really easily at that point guard spot because he can
- 19:46Speaker 6: play it off the ball as well. So you have
- 19:48Speaker 6: a really fun kind of like two man creation between
- 19:52Speaker 6: those two.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Yeah, I was definitely gonna say that. He's certainly versatile
- 19:55Speaker 4: with his with a shot making ability.
- 19:57Speaker 1: It seems like in the NFL it's a little bit
- 19:59Speaker 1: more actionary too. When you see something go well, that's
- 20:02Speaker 1: not the norm, immediately teams pivot their draft strategy. Like
- 20:06Speaker 1: I think about Russell Wilson being successful as a shorter
- 20:10Speaker 1: two sport athlete and then all of a sudden, Kyler
- 20:12Speaker 1: Murray gets pushed up to the number one overall pick
- 20:15Speaker 1: in his draft.
- 20:16Speaker 2: We don't see that as much. It seems like NBA.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Scouts and gms are a little bit more composed and
- 20:24Speaker 1: just this guy was a freaking high school good for
- 20:27Speaker 1: a year in college.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Let's draft him. But I wonder if I.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Say all of that to say, Jalen Brunson just won
- 20:34Speaker 1: NBA Finals MVP. He's not known for his defense. He's
- 20:37Speaker 1: known for his sensational offense, his clutch ability. It sounds
- 20:40Speaker 1: a lot like Darius Acuff. Do you think Brunson's run
- 20:43Speaker 1: with the Knicks can help the view of a Darius Acuff.
- 20:49Speaker 6: Certainly can't hurt. But one of the things I've struggled
- 20:52Speaker 6: with with this guard class is looking at what the
- 20:56Speaker 6: NBA values, what consistently works in the NBA and versus
- 21:01Speaker 6: who had the best year in college, and by far
- 21:02Speaker 6: the guys who had the best year in college are
- 21:04Speaker 6: these point guards. The problem is is that a lot
- 21:07Speaker 6: of them don't have the size and physicality that we
- 21:10Speaker 6: see from most point guards who make deep runs in
- 21:13Speaker 6: the playoffs, like Jalen Brunson is incredible. I also think
- 21:17Speaker 6: he's the outlier and not the rule. And I think
- 21:19Speaker 6: if you start trying to draft for the outlier versus
- 21:21Speaker 6: the rule, you're going to get in a lot of
- 21:23Speaker 6: trouble and start overdrafting guys. So I'm not saying that
- 21:26Speaker 6: Darius Acuff can't get to that level, but if that's
- 21:29Speaker 6: your expectation, I think it's good. It makes team building
- 21:33Speaker 6: really really difficult, and you can put yourself in a
- 21:36Speaker 6: lot of trouble because you the way that the different
- 21:40Speaker 6: paths that you give yourself in terms of team construction
- 21:43Speaker 6: gets so much narrower because you have to insulate him
- 21:46Speaker 6: on the defensive end of the floor. Jalen Brunson is
- 21:48Speaker 6: not a good defender, but he got to a point
- 21:50Speaker 6: this year where he could at least hold his own
- 21:52Speaker 6: and use that strength, use that physicality, use that IQ
- 21:56Speaker 6: to get there. And it's taken him a long time.
- 21:58Speaker 6: It took him multiple years in college, took multiple years
- 22:00Speaker 6: in the pros. And Darius Acuff, for as good as
- 22:03Speaker 6: he is on offense, he's so so far away from
- 22:05Speaker 6: that on defense. So I get the intrigue. I have
- 22:09Speaker 6: Jalen Brunson down as like a ninety ninth percentile outcome
- 22:13Speaker 6: comp for Darius Acuff. But that's pie in the sky dreaming.
- 22:18Speaker 6: So if you're that excited about Acuff, I see the vision,
- 22:22Speaker 6: But I think you're if you're expecting that to be
- 22:24Speaker 6: the expectation, I think you're going to get yourself in trouble.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Yeah, Brunson was also a second round pick, so hell
- 22:30Speaker 2: of a value there.
- 22:31Speaker 5: Yeah, chances sorry, Acuff's not going to end up in
- 22:33Speaker 5: a spot where like Brunson, where his defense isn't a
- 22:37Speaker 5: requirement based on the personnel that's around him.
- 22:40Speaker 4: So it could be just so much more of a
- 22:42Speaker 4: glaring hole based on where he is.
- 22:44Speaker 1: He also got to grow as a sixth man option
- 22:46Speaker 1: and a Cuff is going to be a star. And
- 22:49Speaker 1: it seems like the rumor that I'm seeing is that
- 22:54Speaker 1: it's not just me that everyone is seeing, is that
- 22:57Speaker 1: he's going to end up in Sacramento. Is there a
- 22:59Speaker 1: rumor and maybe that's the one that in that top
- 23:01Speaker 1: ten range that has just been so strong in the
- 23:05Speaker 1: last couple of weeks that you'd be shocked if it
- 23:07Speaker 1: didn't happen.
- 23:09Speaker 6: That does seem to be his floor. I've heard interests
- 23:13Speaker 6: that I've heard that the Clippers like him. I've we're
- 23:16Speaker 6: starting to hear that the Clippers seem to like everybody now,
- 23:19Speaker 6: so I think they just kind of want to trade
- 23:20Speaker 6: out of five. But I've also heard heard that the
- 23:24Speaker 6: Nuts like him so and we know that Sacramento has
- 23:27Speaker 6: loved him going back to January. So I would be
- 23:29Speaker 6: surprised if he fell further than seven. Whether or not
- 23:33Speaker 6: a team jumps into the five or six to go
- 23:36Speaker 6: grab him, that's a different story, But I would be
- 23:39Speaker 6: really shocked if he fell past past Sacramento.
- 23:42Speaker 3: To you, is there anybody in this draft that isn't
- 23:45Speaker 3: getting the hype that they deserve or that you could
- 23:48Speaker 3: see becoming like an absolute superstar that just isn't getting
- 23:51Speaker 3: the love from the media.
- 23:53Speaker 6: I don't know about quite superstar, but I love Mares
- 23:57Speaker 6: Johnson from Michigan. I think he is significantly underrated. I
- 24:02Speaker 6: have him as a top ten guy, and I kind
- 24:04Speaker 6: of just keep consistently seeing him mocked in like the
- 24:06Speaker 6: late teens. Everyone in the league I talk to is
- 24:10Speaker 6: a huge fan of the kid of the player, Insane
- 24:14Speaker 6: rebounder on both ends of the floor, super versatile and
- 24:17Speaker 6: physical defender, and we're seeing his offensive game grow so
- 24:21Speaker 6: dramatically and a very short amount of time. First time
- 24:24Speaker 6: I saw him was at Nike Hoop Summit when he
- 24:26Speaker 6: was finishing up his senior year in high school, and
- 24:28Speaker 6: I was like, this dude can't dribble, he can't shoot.
- 24:30Speaker 6: He like everything on offense is fast. It's like, this
- 24:34Speaker 6: guy's never going to play in the pros, enjoy four
- 24:37Speaker 6: years in college. And now we're seeing him start to
- 24:39Speaker 6: space the floor and they're really encouraging passing flashes and
- 24:43Speaker 6: the game with or his interior finishing is slowing down
- 24:47Speaker 6: so much in terms of processing and rushing stuff, so
- 24:50Speaker 6: I think he's barely scratching the surface on the offensive
- 24:53Speaker 6: end of the floor, and I think they're very, very realistic,
- 24:57Speaker 6: like Al Horford type of high end outcomes with him.
- 25:00Speaker 3: I want to follow up on your comment about watching
- 25:02Speaker 3: him since high school. Do you think are you in
- 25:04Speaker 3: the camp that the whole AAU these kids are getting
- 25:09Speaker 3: developed by the time they're basically able to walk. Do
- 25:12Speaker 3: you think that that's helping or hurting the state of basketball?
- 25:14Speaker 3: Just because it seems like there isn't so much of
- 25:16Speaker 3: the recruitment style of the kids playing shirts and skins
- 25:18Speaker 3: at their local YMCA, but it's all of this AAU
- 25:22Speaker 3: development crap that's going on now. Do you think that
- 25:25Speaker 3: that's helping the current state of basketball or hurting the
- 25:27Speaker 3: current state of basketball? Because it's like you have to
- 25:29Speaker 3: have a trainer by the time you're old enough to
- 25:31Speaker 3: walk to even be considered to play college basketball.
- 25:33Speaker 6: Now, I think in totality it is probably hurting it. Obviously,
- 25:38Speaker 6: there are a lot of really good coaches and programs
- 25:40Speaker 6: and trainers and stuff out there, so I'm not trying
- 25:43Speaker 6: to denegrate everyone, but in totality, I think this hyper
- 25:48Speaker 6: focus on specialization and very specific skill training against cones
- 25:53Speaker 6: and very specific drills is limiting guys and increasing injuries
- 25:58Speaker 6: because guys are continuing to execute just like the exact
- 26:02Speaker 6: same movements over and over and over and over again,
- 26:04Speaker 6: as opposed to like when I was growing up, everyone's
- 26:06Speaker 6: playing multiple sports and you're getting You're developing hand eye
- 26:10Speaker 6: coordination through baseball and death perception through football, and you
- 26:14Speaker 6: know all these other kinds of things, and you're teaching
- 26:17Speaker 6: your body to move and react in different ways. So
- 26:22Speaker 6: I'm with you that that lack of just like just
- 26:25Speaker 6: go out and play it also just is teaching these kids.
- 26:28Speaker 6: It's like, Okay, well I have option one, I have
- 26:30Speaker 6: option two, I have option three, and if none of
- 26:34Speaker 6: those are available, I'm screwed because I don't know how
- 26:36Speaker 6: to think and flow and react and just kind of
- 26:39Speaker 6: play the game. And a lot of these guys are
- 26:42Speaker 6: way too busy just trying to think it instead of
- 26:43Speaker 6: flowing through stuff. So in one sense, the individual skill
- 26:48Speaker 6: is way higher than it's ever been, but that ability
- 26:52Speaker 6: to just go play and improvise, I do think is
- 26:55Speaker 6: getting a little more restricted again in totality.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Yeah, do you also think it's like prohibiting, you know,
- 27:00Speaker 3: kind of. I know that my family's dealing with this
- 27:03Speaker 3: with their kids in soccer, but you basically have to
- 27:06Speaker 3: have a side hustle to put your kids through sports too,
- 27:09Speaker 3: So it almost feels like that's something that's also prohibiting
- 27:13Speaker 3: maybe some talent that we could be seeing come through
- 27:15Speaker 3: the system.
- 27:17Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm just the astronomical expenses associated with, like you,
- 27:21Speaker 6: sports in general is insane to me. I'm like, historically,
- 27:27Speaker 6: like you're saying, with soccer, I grew up playing soccer
- 27:29Speaker 6: as well, and it was like one hundred bucks feet
- 27:33Speaker 6: or whatever for jerseys and like the coach for their time,
- 27:36Speaker 6: and now it's like thousands of dollars and it's like,
- 27:39Speaker 6: what are we doing and the fact that you have
- 27:40Speaker 6: to do this with these AAU teams and support all
- 27:44Speaker 6: of these travel expenses and trainers and these coaches are
- 27:48Speaker 6: turning it into their full time job, where some of
- 27:51Speaker 6: them are awesome and some of them are doing a
- 27:53Speaker 6: great job of getting these guys ready for college and
- 27:56Speaker 6: potentially the pros, but a lot of them are just
- 27:58Speaker 6: kind of grifting and trying to figure out that they're
- 28:01Speaker 6: discerning between the two is a lot more difficult.
- 28:04Speaker 3: If your kid is so special keep paying me.
- 28:08Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly, And I think a lot of the literature
- 28:11Speaker 5: out there says basically says, have your kids have the kids.
- 28:15Speaker 5: I end up being in the best spot by playing
- 28:16Speaker 5: a lot of sports and then later on in life
- 28:19Speaker 5: specializing with the exception of potentially soccer, where like you, actually,
- 28:23Speaker 5: I think you benefit from like the full work if
- 28:24Speaker 5: you specialized really early, which might be one of the
- 28:26Speaker 5: reasons why the US will always be consistently behind unless
- 28:30Speaker 5: we like focus more on specialization there.
- 28:32Speaker 4: But I completely agree with everything he said.
- 28:33Speaker 5: But I do want to talk about another Michigan big
- 28:36Speaker 5: in a day, Mara, what are you hearing there? What's
- 28:39Speaker 5: the highest you could see him going? Matt was telling
- 28:41Speaker 5: me one personnel scout told him he doesn't see him
- 28:45Speaker 5: dropping past the top six, which I thought would have
- 28:48Speaker 5: been pretty crazy, especially based on discussions and mocks like
- 28:52Speaker 5: you know a couple months ago.
- 28:55Speaker 6: Yeah, I've heard that the Nets have some interest. I
- 28:59Speaker 6: don't think quite it. You know, we've heard the Hawks
- 29:02Speaker 6: have some potential interest at eight. I don't think as
- 29:05Speaker 6: like their number one option. I would expect him to
- 29:07Speaker 6: probably go late lottery more in like that ten to
- 29:10Speaker 6: fourteen range. He's he's really tricky because what he did
- 29:14Speaker 6: at Michigan this year was incredible. In a couple of
- 29:17Speaker 6: years ago when he came over from Spain, some people
- 29:19Speaker 6: out there were like, this is going to be the
- 29:21Speaker 6: number one pick. This guy's incredible. And then he spent
- 29:24Speaker 6: the next two years at UCLA doing absolutely nothing, where
- 29:28Speaker 6: he could barely get on the court. He was unserious,
- 29:30Speaker 6: he was immature, he was just kind of screwing around,
- 29:32Speaker 6: not taking basketball seriously, and then goes to Michigan and
- 29:35Speaker 6: Dusty May gets the absolute best out of him. So
- 29:39Speaker 6: I think there's some hesitation of like, all right, who
- 29:42Speaker 6: are we getting. Are we getting the UCLA guy who's
- 29:44Speaker 6: not taking any of the seriously and now that he's
- 29:46Speaker 6: had some success, he's just going to kind of fall
- 29:48Speaker 6: back on his laurels and be like, no, I'm good,
- 29:50Speaker 6: I don't need to put the work in again. Or
- 29:52Speaker 6: are we getting the rejuvenated, re energized version that we
- 29:56Speaker 6: saw at Michigan, where he was one of the best
- 29:57Speaker 6: room protectors and one of the most creative pass especially
- 30:00Speaker 6: from the center spot, who grew a ton as a
- 30:03Speaker 6: post scorer and rebounder. On both ends of the floor.
- 30:05Speaker 6: So it's a big wildcard. But at the end of
- 30:09Speaker 6: the day, those guys that big and that skilled don't fall.
- 30:13Speaker 6: So like when I say like, yeah, you might fall
- 30:15Speaker 6: a little, it's to like twelve, thirteen, fourteen at like
- 30:19Speaker 6: the latest like that that kind of range, because you
- 30:21Speaker 6: can't teach size and that dude is massive.
- 30:24Speaker 5: Yeah, don't don't come around too often. Now, we talked about,
- 30:27Speaker 5: you know, you have the obvious top three. There's a
- 30:31Speaker 5: very promising group of point guards. We talked about some
- 30:34Speaker 5: bigs this, which is what makes this draft exciting.
- 30:38Speaker 4: But if you were to.
- 30:39Speaker 5: When I look at as someone who follows college basketball
- 30:42Speaker 5: or a lot more close closely than NBA, I don't
- 30:47Speaker 5: see too many Now this is normally the case, I'd
- 30:49Speaker 5: imagine I don't see too many guys worth getting that
- 30:52Speaker 5: excited about, like later in the first round. So if
- 30:54Speaker 5: you were to like Tier, maybe there is a guy
- 30:57Speaker 5: that you want to mention. But if you were like
- 30:58Speaker 5: to Tier, this draft left as far as like, okay,
- 31:01Speaker 5: you have the top three, then what and then where's
- 31:04Speaker 5: that next drop off point? As far as like maybe
- 31:07Speaker 5: it's like the twentieth pick, then you see a pretty
- 31:09Speaker 5: significant cliff to the final you know, ten to twelve.
- 31:13Speaker 5: How would you like tier the first round based on
- 31:16Speaker 5: the potential and talent?
- 31:18Speaker 6: Yeah, right around like end of the lottery, like that
- 31:20Speaker 6: fourteen to seventeen range is where I think it kind
- 31:25Speaker 6: of falls off a lot from like guys who could
- 31:27Speaker 6: potentially be long term starters to role players and like
- 31:31Speaker 6: high end lottery tickets, you know, big like high variance
- 31:36Speaker 6: guys like Nate Amen, Jaden Quainton's, you know, in the
- 31:39Speaker 6: late teen range where it's like at the end of
- 31:43Speaker 6: the day, you just kind of have to swing on
- 31:44Speaker 6: upside and hope for the best, because if you miss
- 31:46Speaker 6: out on the eighteenth pick, it's like, okay, well whatever
- 31:50Speaker 6: rarely works anyways. But if you hit and Jane Quaint's's
- 31:54Speaker 6: knees hold up and he turns into the best defender
- 31:56Speaker 6: in this class, and it's like, Okay, I'm a genius.
- 31:59Speaker 6: Look at us with this defensive cornerstone for the next decade.
- 32:03Speaker 6: And then after that you start to kind of get
- 32:05Speaker 6: into like the specialists in the twenties, with like an
- 32:07Speaker 6: Isaiah Evans, who I really like, but he's just kind
- 32:10Speaker 6: of like an off ball shooter. With some potential defensive upside,
- 32:14Speaker 6: or some upperclassmen bigs like Terris Reid and zubiegefor who
- 32:18Speaker 6: I like a lot, but their peak, their ceiling is
- 32:21Speaker 6: probably like fringe starter but at their best as like
- 32:25Speaker 6: a six man backup center type of role. So that's
- 32:29Speaker 6: kind of right around like that sixteen seventeen eighteen range
- 32:32Speaker 6: is where the kind of big drop off between star
- 32:36Speaker 6: like legit potential starters and long term role players starts
- 32:41Speaker 6: with me.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Got it?
- 32:42Speaker 5: And you mentioned Nate a man, what do you what
- 32:43Speaker 5: are your thoughts there on? Where do you think his
- 32:46Speaker 5: realistic ranges as of right now?
- 32:49Speaker 6: I think there's a very realistic chance that he goes
- 32:51Speaker 6: in like that five to six range, and if he doesn't,
- 32:56Speaker 6: he might free fall a little bit. His range has
- 33:00Speaker 6: been the widest that I've heard where some scouts still
- 33:05Speaker 6: love him their head over heels about it, they love
- 33:07Speaker 6: the upside, they love what he could be. And then others,
- 33:10Speaker 6: and this is the camp I fall a little more into,
- 33:13Speaker 6: are like, hey, he's theoretical, Like the idea of him
- 33:16Speaker 6: is great, But the most of that idea that we
- 33:19Speaker 6: got this year was about a three to four week
- 33:22Speaker 6: stretch in conference play in like late February, so it's
- 33:25Speaker 6: like he's always been the skinny kid in college, and
- 33:29Speaker 6: for most of the year he played like that at Tennessee,
- 33:32Speaker 6: and then for the three to four weeks we saw
- 33:34Speaker 6: him be more aggressive and get downhill and draw legitimate
- 33:37Speaker 6: follows through being aggressive, not just shot faking and jumping
- 33:40Speaker 6: into guys like he did for most of the season.
- 33:42Speaker 6: I would love for him to really study guys like
- 33:46Speaker 6: Chris Middleton and Jada McDaniels and learn how to impact
- 33:50Speaker 6: the game in a lesser role and master that mid
- 33:54Speaker 6: range footwork kind of craft and really heightened his defensive
- 33:59Speaker 6: capabilities and assistency. But I'm not sure that that's who
- 34:02Speaker 6: he really wants to be on that end of the floor.
- 34:05Speaker 6: So he's he's really really tricky, and if among the
- 34:10Speaker 6: big names, if we're looking for someone to potentially fall,
- 34:12Speaker 6: I think, unfortunately, he might be one of the leading candidates.
- 34:16Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm fascinated to see how where how his career
- 34:19Speaker 5: plays out, because I agree with your sentiment. When I
- 34:22Speaker 5: would watch a movie infuriating Kinds, It's like I would
- 34:25Speaker 5: just wanted him to be more aggressive and you know,
- 34:27Speaker 5: show more fire and maybe that's just not how he is.
- 34:30Speaker 4: But on the flip side, you.
- 34:31Speaker 5: Mentioned that that stretch during conference play, and then when
- 34:34Speaker 5: I look at where he came from, because when you know,
- 34:38Speaker 5: months before, I was like, this guy's afraid to be
- 34:41Speaker 5: out there, So like that progression, seeing like where he
- 34:45Speaker 5: was to then just that potential, there's definitely going to
- 34:48Speaker 5: be some eyes that are like, all right, I see it.
- 34:51Speaker 4: I'm buying in on that. So I'm very fascinated to
- 34:53Speaker 4: see how his career plays out.
- 34:55Speaker 6: Tyler.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Let's finish where we started back at the top. Always
- 34:59Speaker 1: aerous game to play, but we're gonna play it anyway.
- 35:02Speaker 1: I want a couple of draft comps for the guys
- 35:05Speaker 1: that we're going to see go off the board early.
- 35:08Speaker 2: So I'll give you a couple of the obvious names.
- 35:10Speaker 1: You tell me their most likely comparison of guys that
- 35:14Speaker 1: have either been in the league or are currently playing
- 35:17Speaker 1: professional basketball. Start with AJ Debonsa. Who does he remind
- 35:20Speaker 1: you of?
- 35:22Speaker 6: AJ gives me Carmelo, Anthony, Paul George, Tracy McGrady.
- 35:27Speaker 2: That is nice. Okay, what about Darreon Peterson.
- 35:32Speaker 6: Anthony Edwards, Dwayne Wade with a jumper, Devin Booker, Donovan Mitchell.
- 35:38Speaker 2: So we're not going wrong there with those two.
- 35:41Speaker 6: Cam Boozer, Al Horford, Kevin Love modern Carl Malone without
- 35:47Speaker 6: the bad stuff.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Better the better passer than Malone though, Yeah, yeah, significantly better.
- 35:56Speaker 1: What about Woggler we haven't talked about him. Who does
- 35:57Speaker 1: he remind you of six to six guard?
- 36:00Speaker 6: He's tricky, I get like Tyres helbertn Is like the
- 36:04Speaker 6: high end. I think there's some Austin Reeves, Ryan Rollins,
- 36:07Speaker 6: Trey Man on the low end. I think there's a
- 36:10Speaker 6: lot of variance, but he could very easily end up
- 36:12Speaker 6: looking like one of the best guards or the biggest
- 36:14Speaker 6: buss from this class.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Yeah. Kind of all over the board with that one.
- 36:18Speaker 5: And then can you see de bonsa McGrady com Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 36:23Speaker 5: I think there's some of that.
- 36:24Speaker 1: We heard that last year with Ace Bailey too. Who
- 36:26Speaker 1: do you think who reminds you more of McGrady?
- 36:30Speaker 6: I think a j a lot more his handle, ability
- 36:34Speaker 6: to use his scoring, gravity, a little more explosive of
- 36:36Speaker 6: an athlete too, A cuff Darius Garland, Jaylen Brunson.
- 36:43Speaker 1: See that brunts and keeps getting me go and check
- 36:47Speaker 1: him out. It's no Ceilings n b A. The amount
- 36:50Speaker 1: of effort and and quality work and a very esthetically
- 36:54Speaker 1: pleasing website as well. These guys put in. It's phenomenal.
- 36:57Speaker 1: You guys are great at what you do. We appreciate
- 36:59Speaker 1: the time to Tyler.
- 37:00Speaker 6: Thanks for having me.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Let's get to our draft Kings.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Plant the Flag segment four today's episode. Since we talked
- 37:07Speaker 1: to Tyler Metcalf about the NBA Draft, Let's bet on
- 37:11Speaker 1: the draft.
- 37:11Speaker 2: This is what we do. Mind the flag and shut up.
- 37:15Speaker 4: I'm trying to plant my flag here.
- 37:17Speaker 1: Okay, you're really planning your flag in that thick our
- 37:19Speaker 1: favorite NBA draft bet top ten, top pick, whatever.
- 37:23Speaker 2: Comes to your mind, Hendraw, We will start with you,
- 37:26Speaker 2: what are you looking at?
- 37:28Speaker 3: I am going to go with and I should have
- 37:30Speaker 3: asked this question just because this feels a little random
- 37:32Speaker 3: to throw in here at this point, but we were
- 37:34Speaker 3: just really rocking and rolling with him. But I'm gonna
- 37:36Speaker 3: go Nate Ament top ten minus one five.
- 37:42Speaker 1: They are not Ament guys over at No Ceilings. I'm
- 37:45Speaker 1: looking at one of their latest mock drafts. They have
- 37:47Speaker 1: him mocked at twenty five to the LA Lakers. But
- 37:50Speaker 1: he said that amant As the widest variance of anybody
- 37:55Speaker 1: in the draft, so who the hell knows.
- 37:58Speaker 2: I'm gonna go with.
- 37:58Speaker 1: Darius Acuff selected over slot six and a half. You
- 38:02Speaker 1: can get that at plus one point fifty five over
- 38:04Speaker 1: on DK. Seems like it's already written in the stars
- 38:07Speaker 1: that he's gonna play for the Sacramento Kings. They sit
- 38:09Speaker 1: at seven. So if he gets drafted by Sacramento, we
- 38:12Speaker 1: cash the bet. It you go top four is set.
- 38:15Speaker 1: We know how that's gonna go. So he basically would
- 38:19Speaker 1: have to go and don't to lose this bet. He
- 38:20Speaker 1: would have to go five to the Clippers or six
- 38:23Speaker 1: to the Nets, or somebody would have to trade up,
- 38:25Speaker 1: which doesn't happen all that often in the NBA draft.
- 38:28Speaker 1: The Nets have more point guards of the future than
- 38:30Speaker 1: they know what to do with.
- 38:31Speaker 2: And so it's really just the Clippers that I'm worried about.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Mikhal Brown Woggler.
- 38:37Speaker 1: Those guys a little bit bigger than a Cuff, so
- 38:39Speaker 1: they could end up going ahead of him. I'm gonna
- 38:42Speaker 1: go with a Cuff over six and a half plus
- 38:44Speaker 1: one fifty five.
- 38:45Speaker 2: Stucky off to you.
- 38:47Speaker 5: I'm gonna go with I was thinking about a mar
- 38:50Speaker 5: position but I'm gonna go with Boozer. I think he's
- 38:53Speaker 5: minus one forty to go third overall. I think that's
- 38:57Speaker 5: pretty much written. I think it's just Debontsa Peterson one two,
- 39:02Speaker 5: and then it's going to be Boozer.
- 39:04Speaker 4: So let's throw a favorite in there.
- 39:08Speaker 5: But I think I think that you're that's a decent
- 39:12Speaker 5: position that you're taking, because I do think well, like
- 39:14Speaker 5: Wilson is pretty much a lock to go for yep.
- 39:18Speaker 1: I mean that was the two strongest rumors that I
- 39:21Speaker 1: have seen as far as teams that can't seem to
- 39:25Speaker 1: keep it close to the vest is that the Bulls
- 39:27Speaker 1: love Caleb Wilson and the Kings are in love with
- 39:31Speaker 1: Darius A Cuff.
- 39:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I think I saw Wilson go up to like
- 39:34Speaker 5: min minus five hundred yea to go forth overall. So
- 39:40Speaker 5: definitely a lot of signal there. And then yeah, I
- 39:43Speaker 5: could easily see if you I'll have to check out
- 39:48Speaker 5: I want to go check out Tyler's thoughts because we
- 39:50Speaker 5: didn't get to asking about Woggler, but I could certainly
- 39:52Speaker 5: see Woggler going fifth.
- 39:55Speaker 2: To said Wogglers has a little Tyrese Haliburton in him.
- 39:58Speaker 2: I like that.
- 40:00Speaker 5: Yeah, I could definitely see them like Woggler and Flemings
- 40:05Speaker 5: or you know that the Nets could get me mentioned
- 40:08Speaker 5: all of their their guards. Matt Moore was telling me
- 40:10Speaker 5: about this too, like they could just say, hey, let's
- 40:12Speaker 5: take the best available and go with the guard. But
- 40:14Speaker 5: if they're looking more at positional need, you know, maybe
- 40:20Speaker 5: you have you know, a guy like Mara or the
- 40:25Speaker 5: upside invariants of ament slipped in there. So I think
- 40:28Speaker 5: that there's a lot of paths where you can catch
- 40:30Speaker 5: that a cuff that because there's definitely gonna be some
- 40:34Speaker 5: teams that are concerned about his OLA defense on that
- 40:38Speaker 5: end of the floor.
- 40:40Speaker 1: You can also bet the exact order of the top
- 40:42Speaker 1: three over undraft kings.
- 40:44Speaker 2: I would just say, if you are a.
- 40:46Speaker 1: Darren Peterson truther and think that Aj Debonsa is just
- 40:49Speaker 1: gonna end up back in Utah, who has the second
- 40:52Speaker 1: pick Peterson de Bonsa boozer one two three exact order
- 40:57Speaker 1: plus four seventy five over on draft kings.
- 41:00Speaker 2: I was taking a peek at that as well, to
- 41:03Speaker 2: go ahead stock.
- 41:04Speaker 4: I was gonna say Peterson is like his camp. I
- 41:06Speaker 4: didn't followed it this close.
- 41:08Speaker 5: Knee deep in college football stuff but his camp, he's
- 41:11Speaker 5: like trying to get out there and be like I
- 41:13Speaker 5: don't want to go to Utah, right, and.
- 41:15Speaker 2: The only team he has worked out for is Washington.
- 41:18Speaker 5: Yeah, he said he'd go to Washington, and he's I
- 41:20Speaker 5: think he came out and said that he'd go or
- 41:24Speaker 5: he like let it be known that he'd be okay
- 41:26Speaker 5: going to Memphis as well. I don't does that work
- 41:29Speaker 5: in the NFL, I mean not the NFL. Does that
- 41:32Speaker 5: work in the NBA? Or like no, you know the
- 41:36Speaker 5: usually it happened last year the same thing.
- 41:40Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, I'm gonna put my full tinfoil hat on here.
- 41:45Speaker 3: I'm conspiracy theory that the draft it correct. Oh no,
- 41:50Speaker 3: that the draft like for the NBA and the lottery
- 41:53Speaker 3: and everything.
- 41:53Speaker 2: It's bullshit.
- 41:54Speaker 3: The whole thing is bullshit. Like I think that they know.
- 41:58Speaker 4: Bake it doesn't exist.
- 41:59Speaker 6: Think it's fake.
- 41:59Speaker 3: No, I just think that it's like pre determined, like
- 42:03Speaker 3: we know that there's no way that this is one
- 42:06Speaker 3: honest and authentic right, Like am I the only one
- 42:09Speaker 3: here that's like this is suce?
- 42:12Speaker 4: Are you talking about the actual lottery?
- 42:14Speaker 3: Yes, the lottery.
- 42:16Speaker 1: They could have done so much better than Washington at
- 42:19Speaker 1: the top of the draft. If we're if we are,
- 42:21Speaker 1: if we're going full Vince McMahon, WWE on this, they
- 42:24Speaker 1: could have created a much more entertaining top three.
- 42:27Speaker 5: I do think that there's been maybe some I could
- 42:30Speaker 5: get behind some like conspiracy theories in the past, like.
- 42:33Speaker 1: Like the Cooper like the MAVs ending up with the
- 42:35Speaker 1: first pick after trading Luka Doncic was a little.
- 42:37Speaker 4: Bit utah you got back in the day. I could
- 42:42Speaker 4: see some.
- 42:46Speaker 3: Don't be a sheep, but I don't think in general
- 42:49Speaker 3: it's just you guys.
- 42:53Speaker 2: Like don't be a sheep.
- 42:54Speaker 1: Be a winner over at Draft Kings, Nate Amen is
- 42:58Speaker 1: the top ten for Kendra at minus I've got Darius
- 43:01Speaker 1: Acuff over six and a half at plus one fifty five.
- 43:05Speaker 1: I think he's gonna end up going seven to the Kings.
- 43:07Speaker 1: And Stuckey is on cam Boozer minus one forty to
- 43:11Speaker 1: go number three. That's gonna do it for us here
