- 2:57Speaker 2: Valentina Capitola plays Cora, Dave's niece. This is her fourth
- 3:01Speaker 2: acting credit and her Hallmark debut. Let's take a quick
- 3:04Speaker 2: break and we will come right back with our first impressions. Hey, Wendy,
- 3:17Speaker 2: what was your first impression? Have we met in December?
- 3:20Speaker 1: It's serendipity with a Hallmark filter.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Hey, my first impression is this was a perfectly pleasant
- 3:28Speaker 2: holiday layover with a frustrating number of delays. Let's talk
- 3:34Speaker 2: what we liked about we met in December. May I
- 3:39Speaker 2: start yes, I have a healthy list of likes and
- 3:43Speaker 2: wishes for me. I think the premise is good. I
- 3:49Speaker 2: like this idea every time, right place, right moment, wrong timing. Basically,
- 3:54Speaker 2: it's one of those concepts for me that works time
- 3:57Speaker 2: and time again. I like movies like this because you
- 4:00Speaker 2: want to root for the universe to push the people
- 4:02Speaker 2: back together.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Right. Yes, For the most part, I think the movie
- 4:08Speaker 1: honors that kind of framework. We have the magical night,
- 4:12Speaker 1: the repeats of almost running into each other, the reminders
- 4:17Speaker 1: of what they've learned about each other, like it's doing that,
- 4:20Speaker 1: but like you said, lots of delace getting there.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Yeah. I liked the story telling method what telling the
- 4:29Speaker 2: story of their night together in flashbacks and just giving
- 4:31Speaker 2: us in pieces.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Yep.
- 4:33Speaker 2: And I loved if I may jump, we see the
- 4:38Speaker 2: end of their night at the beginning of the movie,
- 4:39Speaker 2: but we don't see all of it. And I loved
- 4:44Speaker 2: what we get. The reveal of Nile's hand slamming into
- 4:49Speaker 2: that elevator door opening it and the kiss. Total highlight
- 4:54Speaker 2: in this movie. Everything about the choreography, the kiss, the
- 4:57Speaker 2: hand in the door, his face cupping, the way her
- 4:59Speaker 2: ha reaches up to grab his hand.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I thought that was great. Yeah, I thought that was
- 5:04Speaker 1: good too. I the flashbacks totally worked for me in
- 5:08Speaker 1: this movie. I thought it was my favorite creative choice
- 5:13Speaker 1: that they made with this movie. Yeah, drip feeding like
- 5:17Speaker 1: the night, putting it all back together for us to
- 5:20Speaker 1: watch it unfold. I really enjoyed that. And I liked
- 5:23Speaker 1: the remembering details thread through the movie of like, oh,
- 5:29Speaker 1: like he thinks of like is it Maggie's kettle? Like
- 5:32Speaker 1: you know, he remembers and then they have this whole
- 5:35Speaker 1: memory of the conversation. Whatever. I liked all the string
- 5:39Speaker 1: of tiny moments me too. And I did like that kiss.
- 5:43Speaker 1: I like that we the reveal of it like that.
- 5:47Speaker 1: I thought it was executed nicely. Yes, good good stuff. There.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Here is something that I liked that maybe maybe you
- 5:54Speaker 1: didn't clock on.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Let's hear it.
- 5:58Speaker 1: It was giving like grief light a little bit like
- 6:01Speaker 1: the recent passing of their dad. I thought this was
- 6:05Speaker 1: kind of a beautiful heart of the movie here, you know,
- 6:11Speaker 1: this storyline about losing a parent and trying to make
- 6:13Speaker 1: the holidays the most special, Like kind of hit harder
- 6:17Speaker 1: with me than I expected it to, right. I thought
- 6:21Speaker 1: that was very relatable to a lot of viewers.
- 6:24Speaker 2: I think on a lot of levels.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Honestly, if I can tell you, we've been watching obviously
- 6:29Speaker 1: a lot of finding mister Christmas around here. Yes, And
- 6:33Speaker 1: Robbie's storyline of losing his mom has like set heavy
- 6:36Speaker 1: heavy on my shoulder? Has it not on my shoulders?
- 6:39Speaker 1: Set on your heart? Has set heavy on my heart? Yeah.
- 6:42Speaker 1: So I think I went into this movie like feeling
- 6:47Speaker 1: those feelings and then we get the storyline and I
- 6:49Speaker 1: was like, oh, I have regrets anyway. Anyway, So I
- 6:55Speaker 1: thought it was very relatable.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think it's easy to relate to the
- 6:59Speaker 2: idea of like, if I do enough, like I can
- 7:02Speaker 2: control this, like I can I can magic this with
- 7:06Speaker 2: my to do list into the best Christmas ever exclamation point.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, exactly.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Directorial choice I liked was the side by sign screens,
- 7:16Speaker 2: and I liked that they used it several times, showing
- 7:19Speaker 2: that they were, you know, going through the same thing,
- 7:21Speaker 2: but they hadn't quite found each other yet. I particularly
- 7:25Speaker 2: enjoyed the one of them falling into their respective beds
- 7:28Speaker 2: and glancing off to the side as if they were
- 7:30Speaker 2: looking at each other. They're both looking at the empty space.
- 7:33Speaker 2: I thought there was a nice directorial choice there by
- 7:35Speaker 2: mister Jonathan Wright.
- 7:36Speaker 1: We've seen that, we've seen that. Yeah, I remember you
- 7:40Speaker 1: talking specifically about liking it too. Was it a Nile
- 7:42Speaker 1: meter movie? Was it holiday hotline? Oh?
- 7:45Speaker 2: Maybe maybe I have the memory of a goldfish, so
- 7:48Speaker 2: I can't say for sure, but that's a definitely good guess.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I know Bilmore does it too, but I can't recall now.
- 7:56Speaker 1: But that scene.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Stood out to me as well too.
- 7:59Speaker 1: That's so funny you say that, because I was like, oh,
- 8:02Speaker 1: this feels familiar and I like it.
- 8:05Speaker 2: M m m hmmm.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I thought the supporting characters rounded out the cast nicely.
- 8:11Speaker 1: They had good friend and family dynamics here. It wasn't
- 8:15Speaker 1: just you know, two lonely hearts wandering the city looking
- 8:18Speaker 1: for each other. I thought Annie's best friend was MVP. I. Yeah,
- 8:23Speaker 1: there was a great line shout out Nina when basically
- 8:27Speaker 1: they're looking for Dave, her and her best friend, and
- 8:30Speaker 1: they're like, we're so not going to yoga. I was like,
- 8:33Speaker 1: I love it, I love it, I love everything about that. Yeah.
- 8:37Speaker 2: I actually liked that bit about the several times they
- 8:41Speaker 2: missed yoga because I felt like that was quite relatable,
- 8:44Speaker 2: like let's find any excuse not to go and then.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Calling him layover Dave, I ever did really funny too. Uh.
- 8:53Speaker 2: If I may say to round out my list of likes.
- 8:56Speaker 2: I think Autumn and Nile both looked absolute stunning in
- 9:01Speaker 2: this movie. I'm not sure I've ever seen either of
- 9:03Speaker 2: them look better, although niall as Bail was pretty topp
- 9:07Speaker 2: tier and I particularly loved Autumn's red dress on their
- 9:10Speaker 2: layover date.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Oh yeah, cute, right. I have two more likes, but
- 9:14Speaker 1: I'm just gonna hit. I like the movie poster of
- 9:17Speaker 1: this movie too, the movie poster, but the movie art
- 9:20Speaker 1: for it. I think movie posters correct.
- 9:23Speaker 2: I do too.
- 9:24Speaker 1: It's so dreamy and magical. Yeah, yeah, I really liked it.
- 9:28Speaker 2: I agree.
- 9:29Speaker 1: I agree, she looks adorable in that red dress. To me,
- 9:32Speaker 1: it was it was giving a little bit like love
- 9:34Speaker 1: at the Thanksgiving Day parade. That's oh yeah level of.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Yeah where she had that like vintag vibe. Yeah, a
- 9:41Speaker 2: little bit.
- 9:42Speaker 1: My final like was I thought their date was adorable,
- 9:46Speaker 1: like s'mores by the fire pit and cute cocktails in
- 9:50Speaker 1: Chicago at Christmas time, like these are all wins for me,
- 9:54Speaker 1: Like it was eye Candy, I loved all that. I
- 9:57Speaker 1: loved Chicago as the backdrop beautiful. I think about it
- 10:01Speaker 1: every time I see it on my TV. About you
- 10:04Speaker 1: and I being there and you wanted to go on
- 10:06Speaker 1: that like river boat cruise, and I was like, what.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I suggested the riverboat cruise, and everyone's like, why
- 10:14Speaker 2: would we do that? And then at the end of
- 10:15Speaker 2: the week we saw the boats and everyone's like, why
- 10:17Speaker 2: didn't we do that? I was like, hey, bozos, you
- 10:19Speaker 2: said no.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I don't think I imagine that's what it was going
- 10:25Speaker 1: to be.
- 10:25Speaker 2: But I really wanted that my best friend's wedding moment.
- 10:29Speaker 1: If we ever go back, we're doing it.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Yep, Okay, I'll have a romantic boat ride.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Yes.
- 10:36Speaker 2: I also in my legs, I must have at one
- 10:39Speaker 2: point taken the note. It's my note, say Nile Mater's
- 10:42Speaker 2: cute smile. He's got a great smile. That's all he does.
- 10:48Speaker 1: I'm going to talk about Nile and my wishes, not
- 10:50Speaker 1: in a bad way, not in a bad way. So
- 10:53Speaker 1: we just activated all I know the hills, hold off
- 10:58Speaker 1: on all the keyboard wires out there.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Just hold on a second. Let's talk wishes. Why don't
- 11:04Speaker 2: you go ahead?
- 11:04Speaker 1: Okay, I'm just gonna jump into it. We've seen devilish
- 11:08Speaker 1: Nile as bail bail forever for me. I loved him
- 11:12Speaker 1: in that character because it was so unexpected and we've
- 11:17Speaker 1: seen romantic Nile. For me, in this movie, he kind
- 11:21Speaker 1: of sat like right in the middle. I either wanted
- 11:23Speaker 1: like sexier or more comedy, like I needed like he
- 11:28Speaker 1: was just like nice guy, having seen like devilish Nile,
- 11:34Speaker 1: like I kind of want more of that.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't. Yeah, I mean, look, team Rustin over
- 11:40Speaker 2: here wants the bad boy.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Always.
- 11:45Speaker 2: I guess I am kind of a.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Bad boy fan, no kidding, but I love him. I
- 11:52Speaker 1: think he's just adorable And you're right, he does have
- 11:55Speaker 1: like this great smile and I love everything about him.
- 12:00Speaker 1: He's under used in Hallmark movies. I think so too,
- 12:04Speaker 1: not enough Hallmark movies with n own mater. What are
- 12:07Speaker 1: some of your wishes?
- 12:08Speaker 2: Well, I don't have any patients, and so the many
- 12:12Speaker 2: near misses drove me a little bit to distraction. Yes,
- 12:18Speaker 2: I just I don't have any patience for it. And
- 12:21Speaker 2: some people love that like slow Bur unless I don't.
- 12:24Speaker 2: I don't really want to Slowbur and like give me
- 12:25Speaker 2: the goods. And so while I understood that we needed
- 12:30Speaker 2: that final reveal and that that was where we were headed,
- 12:34Speaker 2: I just was like, go back outside, turn around.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Just yeah, yeah, I just.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Wanted them to to get it together, to figure it out.
- 12:43Speaker 1: If I can piggyback on that, I agree, that's probably
- 12:47Speaker 1: my biggest wish. You know, I'm I enjoy a misconnection
- 12:51Speaker 1: type storyline, h But like you said, like I don't.
- 12:56Speaker 1: There were too many of them, and I think they
- 12:59Speaker 1: weren't big enough like I needed like remember when they're
- 13:02Speaker 1: at the they're at the choir show or whatever, and
- 13:06Speaker 1: they're literally just like missing each other and yeah, and
- 13:10Speaker 1: I'm like, come on, I.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Don't know it.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Just I was like make it, make it bigger, like
- 13:16Speaker 1: make it like make me feel like, oh geez right there.
- 13:21Speaker 1: I wanted to feel like more stakes. I wanted to
- 13:24Speaker 1: feel like my life is going to fall apart if
- 13:27Speaker 1: these two do not find each other again. Of course
- 13:30Speaker 1: I know they're going to find each other again, but
- 13:31Speaker 1: like make it feel that way. Well, I think I
- 13:35Speaker 1: needed an additional wrench thrown in their path and not
- 13:39Speaker 1: just that they can't find each other. But I'm sitting
- 13:41Speaker 1: here thinking about like.
- 13:42Speaker 2: What what would have made the waiting sweeter? And I
- 13:46Speaker 2: think maybe like one of them needed to meet someone
- 13:50Speaker 2: and have that moment of like, yeah, that was great,
- 13:53Speaker 2: but like maybe it's not meant to be because we
- 13:56Speaker 2: just keep missing each other. And so they have this
- 13:59Speaker 2: like and we're like, no, she's not the way right,
- 14:02Speaker 2: Like maybe we needed that, yeah, instead of this constant
- 14:06Speaker 2: like the only missing piece is there not in the
- 14:09Speaker 2: right place at.
- 14:10Speaker 1: The right time.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:11Speaker 1: I mean I did like it at the end when
- 14:13Speaker 1: he comes into the church and he's sitting right behind her, Yes,
- 14:16Speaker 1: like I like that. And then we get like the
- 14:18Speaker 1: perspective from her angle, like from in front of her,
- 14:22Speaker 1: we see him behind her. I liked that. I was like, well, finally,
- 14:26Speaker 1: as soon as you stopped looking, there she is. Yeah, exactly.
- 14:29Speaker 1: I mean that's how it always works out, right, mm hmm.
- 14:32Speaker 1: I have two more wishes. One is about Autumn. I
- 14:37Speaker 1: she's great. I enjoy her a lot. Also underused a
- 14:41Speaker 1: homewark like she hasn't been in movie since twenty twenty four. No,
- 14:45Speaker 1: I mean many of the actors have only been in
- 14:47Speaker 1: one movie this, you know, per year or two. But
- 14:49Speaker 1: to me, she's like super leading lady. I don't know
- 14:51Speaker 1: why she's not in like two movies a year. But
- 14:54Speaker 1: that aside, her role here was like very even keeled
- 14:58Speaker 1: to me, Like I wanted to see her like crack
- 15:00Speaker 1: in frustration or impatience a little bit something, Yeah, you know,
- 15:07Speaker 1: like it's.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Always incredibly well put together.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Yeah, like have her crash out a little bit. Yeah, yeah,
- 15:16Speaker 1: I don't know. And finally, for me, this is a
- 15:18Speaker 1: little bit like what you said, the pacing dragged a
- 15:21Speaker 1: little bit. For me, there were moments where it feels
- 15:23Speaker 1: like it's supposed to be very reflective, like that was
- 15:28Speaker 1: the best night of my life, this is the person
- 15:31Speaker 1: I'm supposed to be with, et cetera, et cetera. But
- 15:33Speaker 1: I feel like for me as a viewer, the movie
- 15:36Speaker 1: could have benefited from, like a little more like momentum building, yes,
- 15:43Speaker 1: high stakes tension, yes, And that's where I land on
- 15:47Speaker 1: the wishes.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Well, let's talk to you. Just see that I have
- 15:51Speaker 2: a few Okay.
- 15:52Speaker 1: First of all, this is not a true did you
- 15:55Speaker 1: see that? But I loved out loud because I feel
- 15:58Speaker 1: like I'm Internet savvy enough that I could have found Annie,
- 16:01Speaker 1: a lawyer who works in fashion on the internet in
- 16:04Speaker 1: like two seconds.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. How many Chicago fashion houses are there?
- 16:10Speaker 1: Right? I mean, Dave and finance a little bit harder,
- 16:13Speaker 1: but it's like fuing a needle in a stack of needles,
- 16:15Speaker 1: A great line. Yeah, but come on, Annie in fashion
- 16:18Speaker 1: a lawyer.
- 16:19Speaker 2: It would have been easy enough, except that that's not
- 16:22Speaker 2: her name, which we learned at the end.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Yes, but professionally she goes by mary Anne. Mm hmm,
- 16:30Speaker 1: she goes by Mary Anne. Professionally.
- 16:32Speaker 2: It seems like, I don't I don't know.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I feel like you could have you could have found her.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Somebody could have found I could have found her. My
- 16:38Speaker 1: true digity that is the bubble snow, Oh my god.
- 16:43Speaker 1: And it was just a little bit inconsistent, like once
- 16:46Speaker 1: in they're covered in it, like in the hair, and
- 16:49Speaker 1: then the next scene nothing.
- 16:52Speaker 2: It is constantly snowing in this movie.
- 16:55Speaker 1: M hm.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Why does it need to be snowing every single freaking day.
- 16:57Speaker 2: It doesn't need to be snowing every day. And my
- 16:59Speaker 2: digity that in regards to the snow is it's snowing
- 17:01Speaker 2: in bright sunshine. It's snowing when the night sky is
- 17:04Speaker 2: absolutely clear. I mean, it's too much snow. We didn't
- 17:08Speaker 2: need the snow all the time.
- 17:10Speaker 1: It's funny because you know, we don't live in Chicago.
- 17:12Speaker 1: I wonder does it snow all the time in Chicago?
- 17:16Speaker 1: I mean every single day the time, every single day,
- 17:18Speaker 1: every single moment of the day.
- 17:20Speaker 2: It seemed like a lot of snow.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Yeah, but it was like the terrible bubble snow.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah h that was just like getting our actors well.
- 17:29Speaker 2: And at one point they're out at drinks on their
- 17:32Speaker 2: layover and they're sitting like it's snowing on them. I
- 17:34Speaker 2: was like, I don't think they'd be sitting in the
- 17:35Speaker 2: snow outside.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Well, you know. That was my thought with that Melt
- 17:40Speaker 1: your Heart at Christmas movie, like are you trap seen
- 17:42Speaker 1: over feat of snow at a craft fair? I don't know.
- 17:47Speaker 2: I don't know either.
- 17:49Speaker 1: I don't know. My last did you see that? Is
- 17:52Speaker 1: like I'm a softy for Silent Night? Anytime it plays
- 17:55Speaker 1: like I am a puddle. Uh huh, I don't know why.
- 17:59Speaker 1: So the end when they're in the church with the
- 18:02Speaker 1: silent night and the dim lights and the candles, I
- 18:05Speaker 1: thought that was a very moving, beautiful scene.
- 18:08Speaker 2: You know, my mother in law's birthdays two days before
- 18:11Speaker 2: Christmas and we go to church with her. Her church
- 18:13Speaker 2: does a Christmas Eve eve service and they do a
- 18:17Speaker 2: silent night with the candles, and I always find it
- 18:19Speaker 2: very moving in spite of my complicated church relationship. That
- 18:23Speaker 2: is always a very lights off, candles on. It's a
- 18:25Speaker 2: touching moment. I agree. I really liked that about the
- 18:29Speaker 2: silent night scene though. If you watch at one point,
- 18:32Speaker 2: Autumn singing and she's not singing the part we're hearing
- 18:35Speaker 2: like her mouth is doing like ee, and there's no
- 18:38Speaker 2: movement for the consonants. Oh anyway, I'm sure they had
- 18:43Speaker 2: to shoot it many times, right, So it's they just said,
- 18:46Speaker 2: do something generic that we can clip it in here
- 18:49Speaker 2: and no one's going to pay attention except for Megan,
- 18:52Speaker 2: who's annoying. We touched on all the rest of my
- 18:56Speaker 2: I did just see that's oh no, we didn't. Their
- 18:58Speaker 2: layover lasted a proximately four Hallmark days. It's one night.
- 19:02Speaker 2: They go on like eight dates. Yeah, for sure, Like
- 19:05Speaker 2: she even has an outfit change. They decorate a whole ballroom.
- 19:08Speaker 2: I mean, there are multiple locations. It was a lot
- 19:12Speaker 2: of locations. You know.
- 19:14Speaker 1: It was very relatable where he wakes up and he's like, oh,
- 19:17Speaker 1: I set the alarm for seven totally.
- 19:20Speaker 2: I know I wrote way well been there. However, this
- 19:23Speaker 2: is just a me thing. In the beginning of the movie,
- 19:26Speaker 2: when She's rushing for the airport and he Dave's not there,
- 19:30Speaker 2: and she's talking to the reception desk like can you
- 19:33Speaker 2: tell me his name? Can you tell me his room number?
- 19:35Speaker 2: Can you give me his information? And I thought, if
- 19:38Speaker 2: this were me, I would be like, maybe he just
- 19:42Speaker 2: left without me.
- 19:43Speaker 1: If this hall Mark he ghosted me.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it bounced absolutely. Maybe the first meaning intensity was
- 19:50Speaker 2: too much.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Maybe he's a married man and was like AFO out
- 19:55Speaker 1: of here.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Yes, that would have absolutely been my thought. If he
- 19:59Speaker 2: did not show up, I was like, I would not
- 20:01Speaker 2: have been like give them my information. I'd be like,
- 20:03Speaker 2: oh man, I am embarrassed.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, well, you know, I also have to say
- 20:08Speaker 1: I'm I'm pleasantly surprised by some of the scenes, especially
- 20:13Speaker 1: when they go to he goes to the Christmas tree
- 20:15Speaker 1: farm and he's like, hey, does it did an Annie
- 20:17Speaker 1: come here? And blah blah blah, And the guy's like, yeah,
- 20:19Speaker 1: I'm not giving you that information.
- 20:21Speaker 2: And I was like, okay, good, good.
- 20:23Speaker 1: We're not just giving out random information about people strangers
- 20:27Speaker 1: to you know, other strangers.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Yeah, Christmas magic does not trump all common sense. Okay,
- 20:33Speaker 2: what did you rate? We met in December?
- 20:35Speaker 1: I gave it three stars.
- 20:37Speaker 2: I gave it three point two five stars. Thank you
