- 0:44Speaker 1: Memphis Tigers Monday as they knock out Dan Mullen over
- 0:47Speaker 1: the weekend. They leave Dan Mullen searching for words like
- 0:51Speaker 1: telling his game day operations staff in the press conference
- 0:55Speaker 1: to win the play. We will rock you. Win the
- 0:59Speaker 1: channel on third down and do the wave. That is
- 1:01Speaker 1: a real thing, by the way. Beaver heard it. But
- 1:02Speaker 1: it is Memphis Monday. Beaver's got on a slick. Loved it.

- 2:30Speaker 1: whenever we take that break in there. Talk a little
- 2:32Speaker 1: Meridian Wildcats. Did you see what Meridian did to Ocean
- 2:34Speaker 1: Springs the other night? They destroyed Ocean Springs the other night.
- 2:37Speaker 1: So we'll talk to Tony Vance about that. And what
- 2:40Speaker 1: looks to be a quick rebirth, maybe, we'll see, going
- 2:43Speaker 1: on in Meridian. Chris Landry, 5 to 5.30. I had
- 2:46Speaker 1: a lot of people give me the business over my
- 2:48Speaker 1: TCU pick. I can't help it rained, and TCU didn't
- 2:51Speaker 1: show up. But I've got to say, you can't dig
- 2:55Speaker 1: out of a hole if you don't put yourself in
- 2:57Speaker 1: one early. It's one game. So let's come out of
- 3:00Speaker 1: a hole this week. We're going to have a big week, right?
- 3:03Speaker 1: You're not buying this.
- 3:04Speaker 4: Your history tells me, and JC, no. You're already in
- 3:10Speaker 4: the hole, Jake, and you're already trying to climb out.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Well, you can't dig out of a hole if you
- 3:17Speaker 1: don't put yourself in one. That's just kind of the
- 3:20Speaker 1: way I'm, you know, you've got to live this thing.
- 3:22Speaker 1: You just come right back out of the hole. Did
- 3:24Speaker 1: you see Virginia destroyed? NC State destroyed. What are they
- 3:27Speaker 1: doing up there? I didn't know they cared about football
- 3:29Speaker 1: in Virginia. All right, we've got a lot to get to.
- 3:31Speaker 1: You know the SEC is talking about kicking LSU out
- 3:33Speaker 1: of the conference? Yeah, I saw that.
- 3:36Speaker 4: I'm sorry, let me specify. I saw that bluff. That
- 3:40Speaker 4: is nothing but bluffing. You really think they would kick
- 3:44Speaker 4: them out? No, that has been dumb to even read.
- 3:48Speaker 1: It is. We've got Bill Conley's SP Plus Week 1 picks.
- 3:52Speaker 1: He picks LSU to defeat Clemson 28-18. Ole Miss to
- 3:56Speaker 1: get by Louisville 29-24. SMU, and I do like SMU,
- 4:00Speaker 1: over Florida State 27-25. We'll have WIMS winners this week
- 4:04Speaker 1: as you can get in and play. We'll have all
- 4:07Speaker 1: the plays you need coming up this week. Let's see,
- 4:10Speaker 1: the Irish over the Badgers easily 35-12 and more. So
- 4:15Speaker 1: your biggest matchups this week, LSU, Clemson, Battle of the Tigers. Now,
- 4:20Speaker 1: how much football will you watch this weekend? Will you
- 4:23Speaker 1: watch a little? Will you dabble in it? Or will
- 4:26Speaker 1: you watch a ton of it?
- 4:27Speaker 4: There'll be some dabbling. I don't think I've told you.
- 4:30Speaker 4: I have two separate excitement levels for levels of football
- 4:36Speaker 4: this year.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Okay. No, you haven't mentioned this.
- 4:38Speaker 4: College football for me on a scale of one to
- 4:40Speaker 4: 10 college football for me is at a five and
- 4:42Speaker 4: a half.
- 4:43Speaker 2: It's just over the medium mark.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Fair enough. What about the NFL? Nine. Okay.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Nine out of 10.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Is it because there's more stability in the NFL?
- 4:54Speaker 4: I've just gotten to where, and this has just happened
- 4:56Speaker 4: in the last couple of years. I told you, I've
- 4:59Speaker 4: just gotten to where I've gone back to my roots,
- 5:03Speaker 4: I guess. Cause when I first started watching football at
- 5:06Speaker 4: the young age of 10, For the first, I'd say,
- 5:10Speaker 4: 10 to 12 years, I was all about the NFL.
- 5:17Speaker 2: It took me a while to get into college.
- 5:20Speaker 4: I watched it here and there, but then, so it
- 5:23Speaker 4: got there, and then for the past 20 years, I
- 5:26Speaker 4: was college, but the NFL, I've just swung back to it.
- 5:30Speaker 4: It's so fun now that they've And I hate it because,
- 5:33Speaker 4: you know, my love hate relationship with them because I
- 5:36Speaker 4: find them to be a disgusting corporation.
- 5:38Speaker 1: You know this.
- 5:38Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. But the fact that they try so hard
- 5:42Speaker 4: to make it a year round thing and the stories
- 5:45Speaker 4: that go year round and.
- 5:48Speaker 1: They've got me. They've got me.
- 5:50Speaker 4: That's just it's just way more fun to keep up
- 5:52Speaker 4: with to me.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Let's see. RezDog says, Jake, I'm so glad you're terrible
- 5:55Speaker 1: at picking games. Made a fortune on North Carolina this weekend.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I'm glad you were able to pad the pocket, RezDog,
- 6:01Speaker 1: on North Carolina and Bill Belichick. All right, you got
- 6:04Speaker 1: Clemson LSU. That's going to be 7.30 kick, Eastern time, 6.30
- 6:07Speaker 1: on ABC. You've got– and that'll be Saturday. You've got
- 6:12Speaker 1: Colorado Georgia Tech Thursday night on ESPN. You've got Baylor
- 6:19Speaker 1: and Auburn Saturday at 2.30 on ABC. Tulane Duke, 2.30
- 6:25Speaker 1: on the ACC Network. UNLV Hawaii, if you want to
- 6:28Speaker 1: get more Dan Mullen. They may go 0-2. Hawaii won
- 6:31Speaker 1: over the weekend at 12 o'clock on the CW. UCLA
- 6:36Speaker 1: Cal at 10.30 Eastern. This is the late game. 9.30
- 6:41Speaker 1: on ESPN if you want to stay up late. Washington State, Washington.
- 6:44Speaker 1: You got the Apple Cup on the first weekend of
- 6:47Speaker 1: the season. Sunday at 3 o'clock on NBC. You got
- 6:50Speaker 1: a little Apple Cup on the... Peacock. Peacock slash NBC.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Ole Miss, Louisville. Sunday afternoon, 6.30, kick on ABC. Number
- 7:01Speaker 1: nine versus number 24. Sunday also at 6.30. On NBC,
- 7:06Speaker 1: you'll get Notre Dame, Wisconsin. And then Monday night at 6.30,
- 7:11Speaker 1: you'll get SMU versus Florida State. And I think SMU
- 7:14Speaker 1: is going to go in there and beat them. Personally,
- 7:16Speaker 1: I really like the Smoo Ponies. to go in there
- 7:20Speaker 1: and win. So that's your key matchups over the course
- 7:23Speaker 1: of a ton of other stuff out there. We've got
- 7:25Speaker 1: a Mississippi gridiron top 10 after the week. And we'll
- 7:28Speaker 1: get into some of that. Of course, a lot of
- 7:30Speaker 1: high school football as we get into week two slash three,
- 7:35Speaker 1: week three for the MAIS, week two for the MHSA
- 7:38Speaker 1: coming up this weekend. And we'll get into that. Also,
- 7:40Speaker 1: we got the JCJCs coming up on Thursday. We'll have
- 7:43Speaker 1: Heinz football right here as Heinz will be over. I'll
- 7:46Speaker 1: be over at East Mississippi for that ball game. SEC
- 7:49Speaker 1: Shorts released a fantastic video. If you like SEC Shorts,
- 7:54Speaker 1: on LSU releases a video welcoming NFL players to campus.
- 7:57Speaker 1: It was really, really funny, as always. Also, let's see.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Louisville All-American running back. This is a key to the
- 8:07Speaker 1: Ole Miss game coming up this weekend. Louisville All-American running
- 8:10Speaker 1: back Isaac Brown is healthy and, quote, ready to go
- 8:13Speaker 1: for the opener against Ole Miss. So he will play
- 8:15Speaker 1: Sunday versus the Ole Miss Rebels. And also, we have
- 8:21Speaker 1: something on the phones.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Okay.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Lionel Messi, did you say he's retiring from Argentina? So
- 8:26Speaker 1: he is saying I'm out. Is he going to play
- 8:28Speaker 1: any more soccer? What is he going to do? Yeah,
- 8:31Speaker 1: he's retiring from international play. So we won't see him
- 8:35Speaker 1: in any more World Cups. Okay. Well, he may come back.
- 8:39Speaker 1: I think he comes back. Does the whole fighter come back?
- 8:44Speaker 2: I sure hope not. I don't think he will.
- 8:48Speaker 1: So SEC school executives are exploring extreme measures to address
- 8:53Speaker 1: LSU's plans to add former pro players, including boycotting competition,
- 9:00Speaker 1: sanctioning the school with probation, or expulsion and filling a
- 9:05Speaker 1: federal legal challenge, sources tell Yahoo Sports. This is an
- 9:09Speaker 1: interesting story we're going to get to. And there's so
- 9:13Speaker 1: much LSU news out here. An SEC school official told
- 9:16Speaker 1: Yahoo Sports, quote, there are plenty of other schools that
- 9:18Speaker 1: could take their place. Are we really about to kick
- 9:21Speaker 1: LSU out of the SEC?
- 9:22Speaker 2: No, no, you're absolutely not. Like I said, this is
- 9:27Speaker 2: one big bluff.
- 9:30Speaker 1: It's unbelievable.
- 9:31Speaker 4: I mean, okay, LSU, call their bluff and see what
- 9:34Speaker 4: happens now. They're not going to kick LSU out. Because
- 9:39Speaker 4: when it comes down to it, okay.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Yeah, talk.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk. What do y'all
- 9:44Speaker 2: care about more than anything? It's money.
- 9:47Speaker 4: You're going to say no thanks to LSU's whatever football
- 9:51Speaker 4: money they bring in?
- 9:52Speaker 1: You think they bring Tulane back? They bring back Swanee? Oh, yeah.
- 9:58Speaker 1: George Tech.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Yeah, think about that.
- 10:00Speaker 1: SEC.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Sankey, while you're talking all this nonsense. Yeah, think about that,
- 10:04Speaker 4: your replacement. What are your options?
- 10:06Speaker 2: Swanee.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Let's bring Swanee back. Hey, we're brought to you by

- 12:22Speaker 1: responsibly because, I mean, like our good friend Brian Eubank,
- 12:24Speaker 1: he likes a soda, but he'll drink like five in
- 12:27Speaker 1: a ballgame. Is that overdoing it? A little bit. So, hey,
- 12:31Speaker 1: Diet Dr. Pepper, Dr. Pepper, turn your Dr. Pepper tailgate
- 12:34Speaker 1: into a guaranteed W this season. Do it with Dr. Pepper.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Enter on the zone, 1059.com. All right, let's get more
- 12:41Speaker 1: into everything with LSU. Let me ask a dumb question. Well,
- 12:45Speaker 1: that's all dumb. Why is LSU dying on this hill?
- 12:50Speaker 1: I mean, it's one thing to leverage, try to leverage
- 12:55Speaker 1: something that you think is going to get you almost
- 12:58Speaker 1: an automatic. Like if I was going to go in
- 13:01Speaker 1: and think that these three or four players out of
- 13:05Speaker 1: the NFL are was an automatic. This is going to
- 13:09Speaker 1: give me the red pill, something that's going to get
- 13:11Speaker 1: us better than everybody, and there's no doubt. And we're
- 13:13Speaker 1: going to go straight to the championship game. We're going
- 13:17Speaker 1: to win the thing. We're going to get on the podium.
- 13:19Speaker 1: But it's not automatic, and we don't even know if
- 13:22Speaker 1: it equates into one win. Why is this the heel
- 13:26Speaker 1: they're dying on?
- 13:28Speaker 4: So my thinking, at least two people involved in this equation,
- 13:36Speaker 4: factoring into this pretty hard lane.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Kiffin and.
- 13:42Speaker 4: The governor jeff landry which is still pathetic as a
- 13:51Speaker 4: insert word here insert any word you can think of
- 13:54Speaker 4: here one of the most pathetic things ever you're a
- 13:57Speaker 4: governor and you have been so in i have i
- 14:01Speaker 4: have heard your name so many times in the past
- 14:04Speaker 4: year involving LSU athletics than I have ever heard your
- 14:10Speaker 4: name mentioned as governor. I never knew who the governor
- 14:14Speaker 4: of Louisiana was. Why would I have known that? I've
- 14:16Speaker 4: never cared. But it shouldn't be involved this hard in
- 14:21Speaker 4: football and basketball at a school. Anyway, so you got
- 14:29Speaker 4: Lane Kiffin. The reason I bring these two guys up
- 14:32Speaker 4: Lane Kiffin, he's the type of guy that's going to
- 14:37Speaker 4: stand there and just try to bucket this because he
- 14:40Speaker 4: thinks this will give him an advantage.
- 14:43Speaker 2: He's a football coach.
- 14:44Speaker 4: I mean, I can't 100% blame him. He's a scummy dude,
- 14:49Speaker 4: seems like to begin with. So he's doing that. And
- 14:53Speaker 4: then you got the governor over here. What is the governor?
- 14:55Speaker 4: You're a politician. What do you know better than anything?
- 14:59Speaker 4: bullcrap empty words, which is what all of this is.
- 15:03Speaker 4: Like I said, these threats that SEC's talking and boycotts
- 15:09Speaker 4: and all that.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Like I said, it's a bluff. It's a major bluff.
- 15:12Speaker 2: It's bullcrap.
- 15:13Speaker 4: Well, that's why I point out that Landry, you are
- 15:16Speaker 4: a politician. You are full of bullcrap. He knows, though. See,
- 15:20Speaker 4: neither of these people, Lane Kiffin or Landry, although ridiculous,
- 15:23Speaker 4: they're not stupid. They notice, too. They're probably in their
- 15:28Speaker 4: minds thinking the same thing What are y'all going to do?
- 15:31Speaker 4: Are y'all really going to kick LSU out of the SEC?
- 15:34Speaker 2: Okay, come on.
- 15:35Speaker 4: They're probably saying the same thing. So I think those
- 15:38Speaker 4: two people are a major part of this.
- 15:40Speaker 1: I would say that you're spot on. Now, let's go
- 15:43Speaker 1: to Lane Kiffin first. He spoke today and said that he, quote,
- 15:46Speaker 1: will absolutely follow SEC eligibility rules if the court order
- 15:51Speaker 1: is reversed. If, quote, I have been in communication daily
- 15:55Speaker 1: with the SEC to make sure we are complying with
- 15:57Speaker 1: the SEC rules. That's just talk. But to your point,
- 16:01Speaker 1: here are the situations that this governor, Jeff Landry, since
- 16:06Speaker 1: he took office in 2004, has inserted himself into down
- 16:10Speaker 1: in Baton Rouge. 2024, when he took office, live Tiger
- 16:15Speaker 1: at Tiger Stadium. Landry pushed LSU to revive the live
- 16:17Speaker 1: Tiger tradition for the Alabama game, bringing in a Tiger
- 16:21Speaker 1: named Omar Bradley from the Florida company. The first appearance
- 16:25Speaker 1: is 2015. His pack. protect Louisiana values, covered the cost
- 16:30Speaker 1: and logistics. The Tiger appeared only briefly. Women's basketball national
- 16:34Speaker 1: anthem issues. He publicly complained that LSU women's basketball players
- 16:39Speaker 1: were not on the court standing for the national anthem.
- 16:41Speaker 1: The team did not change its pregame routine. Ticket price
- 16:45Speaker 1: increase in October 25 after a home loss against A
- 16:48Speaker 1: & M. Landry criticized LSU's announced ticket price hikes for
- 16:52Speaker 1: the next season. University officials reversed the plan. The Brian
- 16:55Speaker 1: Kelly firing and a $ 54 million buyout. Landry hosted a
- 16:59Speaker 1: meeting at the governor's mansion the night after Kelly's firing
- 17:02Speaker 1: to discuss the contract's legal and fiscal implications. He repeatedly
- 17:06Speaker 1: warned that taxpayers could be on the hook for the
- 17:09Speaker 1: remaining $ 54 million and called the deal terrible. He framed
- 17:12Speaker 1: it as protecting state finances, forcing out Athletics Director Scott Woodward.
- 17:17Speaker 1: He did that. Hiring of LSU's system president, Wade Rousseau.
- 17:24Speaker 1: I'm going to say it like that because it's down there.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Landry played a key role in installing Roussey, previously McNeese
- 17:30Speaker 1: State as LSU system president. So he inserts a puppet
- 17:34Speaker 1: of his into the LSU athletic department. Hiring of Lane Kiffin,
- 17:39Speaker 1: hiring of Will Wade. He was instrumental in that. SEC
- 17:44Speaker 1: eligibility fight over professional players. and donors summit at the
- 17:48Speaker 1: governor's mansion talking about private equity. So you're absolutely right.
- 17:54Speaker 1: He's pulling the strings on this. Kiffin is a puppet
- 17:58Speaker 1: on a string because he hired him. It's like he
- 18:01Speaker 1: hired Kiffin indirectly, so Kiffin now works for him. He
- 18:05Speaker 1: doesn't work for the athletics director. He works for the
- 18:07Speaker 1: governor of Louisiana. This is a weird deal. Very weird.
- 18:11Speaker 1: is he even worried about the state of Louisiana on
- 18:14Speaker 1: a day-to-day basis? Or is he just worried about LSU sports?
- 18:17Speaker 4: Just LSU. Everything else will come together. Everything else is
- 18:20Speaker 4: just details.
- 18:22Speaker 1: This is, this is crazy. This is, this is so wild.
- 18:24Speaker 1: What's going on here. And look, I don't think the
- 18:27Speaker 1: sec meets with the courts and the judges until Thursday.
- 18:31Speaker 1: We kick off on Thursday. I mean, if you count
- 18:34Speaker 1: week zero, we've officially kicked it off, but the official
- 18:37Speaker 1: official kickoff is Thursday and they're still going through this. Um,
- 18:43Speaker 1: The conversations within the conference are considered, quote, not league-driven,
- 18:47Speaker 1: but membership-led. The 15 SEC University leaders, excuse me, excluding LSU,
- 18:53Speaker 1: have gathered over potential options to address the situation. Said
- 18:58Speaker 1: one school official, these conversations are serious. Also, the way is,
- 19:05Speaker 1: you know, all this LSU has helped create this whole
- 19:08Speaker 1: fiasco with the pro players. Statement from the SEC about
- 19:11Speaker 1: Saturday's news. of their expected compliance, which we, you know,
- 19:15Speaker 1: that was over the weekend. The court said, no, you
- 19:17Speaker 1: got to comply. You got to let them play. The
- 19:20Speaker 1: SEC put this statement out. The order entered against the
- 19:24Speaker 1: SEC and commissioner Sankey is, is a temporary restraining order,
- 19:27Speaker 1: not a final ruling on its merits or the merits.
- 19:30Speaker 1: The SEC and commissioner Sankey are prepared to contest the
- 19:33Speaker 1: allegations in the plaintiff's petition at Thursday morning's hearings and
- 19:38Speaker 1: defend the SEC's rights as a voluntary association to fulfill
- 19:42Speaker 1: the its mission to its member institutions. In the meantime,
- 19:45Speaker 1: the SEC and Commissioner Sankey will continue to comply with
- 19:49Speaker 1: the court's order. Following the hearing, the SEC will carefully
- 19:52Speaker 1: review the court's decision and determine the appropriate next step.
- 19:55Speaker 1: So you've got two things going on. Based on the weekend,
- 19:59Speaker 1: the way I understand it, correct me if I'm wrong
- 20:02Speaker 1: out there because I can be wrong occasionally, the court
- 20:05Speaker 1: order over the weekend allows the players in the NFL
- 20:08Speaker 1: to come back. The SEC is saying, so LSU is saying,
- 20:12Speaker 1: come on, let's go. Get them in here. Get them
- 20:14Speaker 1: in here. Until they tell us no, they're coming. And
- 20:18Speaker 1: this is on Thursday. The SEC is going to try
- 20:20Speaker 1: to have this reversed. But in the meantime, they're exploring
- 20:24Speaker 1: what to do with LSU because LSU is the one
- 20:28Speaker 1: who's creating the whole mess. Does this affect LSU mentally
- 20:32Speaker 1: on Saturday? Or do they just not even care? And
- 20:34Speaker 1: they're like, hey, guns a blazing. We're shooting up the place.
- 20:38Speaker 1: We don't care. We're going to go wear Clemson out
- 20:40Speaker 1: and bring in our NFL players.
- 20:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't think they care. I don't think Kiffin
- 20:44Speaker 4: cares about much. I mean, because he's the most vilified
- 20:48Speaker 4: dude the past 10 months. And I just don't feel
- 20:53Speaker 4: that he cares that that's his persona. I don't think
- 20:56Speaker 4: he cares how hated he is. And that includes with
- 20:59Speaker 4: this story, because a lot more people are probably hating
- 21:01Speaker 4: him now. I don't get the feeling he's affected by that.
- 21:05Speaker 4: So I don't think this will affect how they play.
- 21:08Speaker 4: Or how they're coached or any of that.
- 21:10Speaker 1: I think you're probably right. Hey, we've got to take

- 22:59Speaker 1: you can find him at jeanspage247sports. com. and get him on
- 23:03Speaker 1: eggs and more. David, happy Monday. Who in the world
- 23:06Speaker 1: are we going to replace LSU with in the SEC?
- 23:11Speaker 5: I don't know. I think maybe a better punishment would
- 23:14Speaker 5: be they can't play any home games and all games
- 23:17Speaker 5: have to be played in purple jerseys or something like that,
- 23:21Speaker 5: you know, and truly drive them crazy. And I say
- 23:27Speaker 5: this as somebody who actually likes LSU. I've enjoyed visits
- 23:31Speaker 5: down there and just something about the atmosphere special. But
- 23:35Speaker 5: when they made the hire they made, and maybe this
- 23:39Speaker 5: applies to more to one sport down there, they might
- 23:42Speaker 5: as well have given a 12-year-old boy a box of
- 23:45Speaker 5: matches and go say, take care of the fireworks tent
- 23:48Speaker 5: for an evening there. And now they're shocked that it's
- 23:52Speaker 5: blowing up. So, you know, Like many others say, let's
- 23:59Speaker 5: just play the games, get going. But there needs to
- 24:01Speaker 5: be some, obviously, phonology to this. And otherwise, because now
- 24:06Speaker 5: you already have fans of every school saying, well, why
- 24:08Speaker 5: don't we do the same? Because, you know, we play
- 24:10Speaker 5: well because it's self-destructive. It's damaging to the sport in general.
- 24:15Speaker 5: I know that's an archaic thought. Care about the state
- 24:18Speaker 5: of the sport in general? All that stuff.
- 24:19Speaker 4: Right.
- 24:21Speaker 5: Anyway, it's not something we have to worry about right
- 24:23Speaker 5: now at Mississippi State. We're still, as of this morning,
- 24:26Speaker 5: Jeff Levy clarified that Jerron Manning and Malik Silla will
- 24:30Speaker 5: not be playing this first game. They're still working through
- 24:33Speaker 5: the process there, waiting basically for the final ruling to
- 24:36Speaker 5: come out and see if it's worth their time. And
- 24:38Speaker 5: even if they were clear, it would be October 4.
- 24:41Speaker 5: They could really be a factor now because they haven't
- 24:42Speaker 5: done anything since spring. Also, We don't know all he
- 24:48Speaker 5: said about the Miles McVeigh situation was that the discipline
- 24:52Speaker 5: was taken care of in-house, and he'll be ready to
- 24:54Speaker 5: roll this weekend. Maybe an interesting metaphor, given that it
- 24:58Speaker 5: was a rolling violation that he ran afoul of, but
- 25:01Speaker 5: who am I to say? And the transfer defensive lineman,
- 25:06Speaker 5: that's still being worked through as well, waiting for eligibility
- 25:10Speaker 5: status confirmation. No injury news this morning, not that we
- 25:14Speaker 5: expected anything, but I think the Bulldogs are coming in
- 25:16Speaker 5: really healthy for this preseason to the point that Kamario
- 25:20Speaker 5: Taylor was talking today at the press conference about how
- 25:23Speaker 5: he'd been begging Coach Levy to let him run some
- 25:26Speaker 5: and not blow the whistle, and Levy would say, nah,
- 25:29Speaker 5: you stay in the pocket. Well, now the real game
- 25:32Speaker 5: has come, and let's see if he stays in the
- 25:33Speaker 5: pocket as told to or just can't give him to
- 25:36Speaker 5: the temptation and starts running a little bit. As far
- 25:39Speaker 5: as game interest, it's Louisiana Monroe. You're going to win
- 25:42Speaker 5: the game. The whole idea is what are we going
- 25:45Speaker 5: to see, what are we not going to see, what
- 25:47Speaker 5: will they hold back ahead of Minnesota, if anything. And
- 25:50Speaker 5: that's a long introduction to say, Jake, that it's time
- 25:54Speaker 5: to play a lightweight on opening weekend and get the
- 25:56Speaker 5: first look at the 20-2016.
- 25:58Speaker 1: David Murray on your radio. Make sure to get a subscription.
- 26:00Speaker 1: If you're a Mississippi State fan, go to Gene's page, 247sports. com.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Make sure to follow Gene. David and Steve and their
- 26:06Speaker 1: team on X. Yeah, David, I mean, Mississippi State, a
- 26:09Speaker 1: big favorite coming into the weekend. I think I saw
- 26:11Speaker 1: it somewhere around 28 or 29 points, depending on where
- 26:15Speaker 1: you shop this thing at. I'm looking at 28 and
- 26:17Speaker 1: a half, courtesy of Ameristar Casino. What do you look
- 26:21Speaker 1: for in a game like this? I know what I
- 26:23Speaker 1: look for is how well does the offensive line block
- 26:27Speaker 1: throughout the game, meaning are they opening run holes or
- 26:30Speaker 1: is it hard to churn out run yards? If Mississippi
- 26:33Speaker 1: State has a couple pop plays– two or three big plays,
- 26:36Speaker 1: and they get up 21-0. That's one thing, but are
- 26:39Speaker 1: they opening holes? Are they allowing pressure to get to
- 26:42Speaker 1: the quarterback, that offensive front defensively? Are you getting gashed
- 26:45Speaker 1: in the run game? What are you looking for?
- 26:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm thinking along the same lines there. I want
- 26:50Speaker 5: to see control of the line of scrimmage on both
- 26:52Speaker 5: sides of the ball, obviously, in this game. You notice, too,
- 26:56Speaker 5: that in both of Jeff Levy's season openers, Let's see,
- 27:00Speaker 5: last year they scored about 90 seconds into the game
- 27:03Speaker 5: on a throw to, say, Detroit. Two years ago, a
- 27:07Speaker 5: sideline throw turned into a big touchdown pass just 30
- 27:12Speaker 5: seconds into the game to Jordan Mosley. So will this
- 27:15Speaker 5: be the game where finally State just goes on a
- 27:17Speaker 5: regular routine sort of opening drive, assuming they get the ball,
- 27:20Speaker 5: which Jeff Levy's team has been really good at getting
- 27:23Speaker 5: the ball first, for one thing. Yeah, I want to
- 27:26Speaker 5: see that. I'd rather see a grinding execution game with
- 27:30Speaker 5: a few explosives. I would just rather see basic execution
- 27:35Speaker 5: out there in this sort of game, more of a
- 27:37Speaker 5: scrimmage type rather than fireworks-type plays, because in the long run,
- 27:42Speaker 5: you're going to need to make those drives against your
- 27:44Speaker 5: better teams. And one thing that Levy pointed out this morning, too,
- 27:48Speaker 5: and I agree with, having watched some games over the weekend,
- 27:51Speaker 5: You notice a lot of pre-snap penalties or alignment problems
- 27:55Speaker 5: or getting the ball, the play you called in time,
- 27:58Speaker 5: getting everybody lined up correctly. I want to see that
- 28:01Speaker 5: done this first game because if you're taking care of
- 28:04Speaker 5: a basics in your first game like that, you don't
- 28:06Speaker 5: have a lot of pre-snap penalties, you don't commit turnovers,
- 28:11Speaker 5: that's probably the most pleasing way to start the season,
- 28:14Speaker 5: at least to Jeff Levy's mind at this point. Just
- 28:16Speaker 5: give me a nice, efficient game, no injuries. and start
- 28:21Speaker 5: getting ready for the make or break games, which are
- 28:23Speaker 5: coming up very quickly this season with, uh, both on
- 28:26Speaker 5: the road, Minnesota and South Carolina.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Yeah, David, it's, it's interesting. You, you play the game
- 28:31Speaker 1: on Saturday and of course we'll get into Minnesota next week.
- 28:34Speaker 1: I think that is, we've talked about this all off season. That's,
- 28:36Speaker 1: that's kind of the linchpin of this season is how
- 28:38Speaker 1: they play on the road. Uh, you know, on an
- 28:40Speaker 1: opponent that you're not familiar with. Uh, and then of course,
- 28:42Speaker 1: South Carolina at home before coming back home to, uh, Missouri,
- 28:46Speaker 1: as far as the health of the team, um, after
- 28:49Speaker 1: camp now camp now over in the game week, what
- 28:52Speaker 1: is the health of the team that we know of today?
- 28:55Speaker 5: As far as we know, it's good. I ran a
- 28:57Speaker 5: piece last week on the site, uh, scoured all the
- 29:00Speaker 5: injury news around the sec that was available. And, uh,
- 29:04Speaker 5: the two Mississippi teams are starting out the season and
- 29:06Speaker 5: really good health by all occasions there. You've got some
- 29:09Speaker 5: other teams that have some injuries, uh, Tennessee for one.
- 29:13Speaker 5: And then you've got the, um, cloud hanging over some
- 29:16Speaker 5: eligibilities as well. So, uh, I think right now, Levy
- 29:19Speaker 5: could not ask for his team to be better physical shape.
- 29:22Speaker 5: As far as emotional shape, I think that's even better.
- 29:25Speaker 5: Camario was great this morning. Isaac Smith, Anthony Evans, we
- 29:30Speaker 5: talked to those guys, Kelly Jones. They're ready to play ball,
- 29:34Speaker 5: but not in the sense that they're just tired of camp.
- 29:38Speaker 5: I don't think they ever got to that point. I
- 29:40Speaker 5: think they've been approaching this camp with a great attitude
- 29:43Speaker 5: all the way through so far, and that, to me,
- 29:46Speaker 5: is another mark that at least whatever happens in the field,
- 29:49Speaker 5: you know the culture is being built correctly. They've handled
- 29:52Speaker 5: all those assignments well. Now it comes down to proving
- 29:55Speaker 5: it on the field because everything's great. until you start
- 30:00Speaker 5: battling for minutes and snaps and things like that. I
- 30:03Speaker 5: want to see, like I said, lines of scrimmage established.
- 30:07Speaker 5: If you're going to ask, what is one arcane thing
- 30:10Speaker 5: that I'm looking for, I would say I want to
- 30:15Speaker 5: see the speed in general of the front line and
- 30:18Speaker 5: the linebackers. I expect them to be faster this year,
- 30:21Speaker 5: but I want to see it actually happen. Maybe not
- 30:23Speaker 5: showing up in sacks and hurries, but I want to
- 30:26Speaker 5: see a lot more mobility potentially. from that front six
- 30:28Speaker 5: or so, because to me that's going to be more
- 30:31Speaker 5: the key once you get into the season. Is Zach
- 30:34Speaker 5: Arnett's defense really going to be as let it rip
- 30:37Speaker 5: and as aggressive as they hope to be out there,
- 30:40Speaker 5: which frankly I think suits the roster very well, or
- 30:43Speaker 5: do they hold things back for the opening game? And
- 30:46Speaker 5: that's one of the more arcane things I think I'm
- 30:48Speaker 5: watching for this weekend as well.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Talking to David Murray, Mississippi State, season opener coming up
- 30:52Speaker 1: against Louisiana Monroe this Saturday. Monday edition of your radio show. Yeah,
- 30:57Speaker 1: I would figure, David, you would see, because looking at
- 31:00Speaker 1: Minnesota's schedule, they open with Eastern Illinois. Both of these
- 31:04Speaker 1: two coaching staffs know what next week is. It's their
- 31:07Speaker 1: first big game. But you're going to see both teams
- 31:09Speaker 1: kind of hold that back. I would assume Arnett plays
- 31:12Speaker 1: a base defense. He may do a little blitzing if
- 31:14Speaker 1: they need to here and there. And offensively, probably more
- 31:17Speaker 1: of a base package as well and see what you
- 31:19Speaker 1: can come up with and try to hold that stuff
- 31:21Speaker 1: to next week.
- 31:23Speaker 5: You know, we say that. But I don't think it's
- 31:25Speaker 5: in Arnott's character to hold things back that much. And
- 31:29Speaker 5: I don't think that's in this team's character defensively. I'm
- 31:33Speaker 5: not talking about schematically. Obviously, they'll hold some cards back there.
- 31:38Speaker 5: I'm just talking more about the attitude and approach to it.
- 31:41Speaker 5: I think he does just turn them loose and let
- 31:43Speaker 5: them go. Because, let's be blunt, this is the kind
- 31:46Speaker 5: of game where you can probably afford to make mistakes
- 31:48Speaker 5: and not pay too dearly for it. It's one thing
- 31:51Speaker 5: to practice against your own offense, especially when you're not
- 31:54Speaker 5: allowed to tackle the quarterback or even knock your own
- 31:58Speaker 5: running back's receivers down too hard. This game, all the
- 32:02Speaker 5: leashes are off and it's time to go. I want
- 32:04Speaker 5: to see if they translate that aggression onto the field
- 32:08Speaker 5: against an opponent that they should dominate, but still at
- 32:11Speaker 5: the same time not take anything for granted. I know
- 32:13Speaker 5: it's a very fine line there that only the actual
- 32:16Speaker 5: play can show, But maybe offensively they hold some cards back.
- 32:21Speaker 5: I don't think defensively they will. I think you have
- 32:24Speaker 5: to be what you are from the first snap of
- 32:26Speaker 5: the season because that's just going to be the mentality
- 32:29Speaker 5: for the whole season. If you're trying to rein them
- 32:31Speaker 5: in and then say next week you can go loose,
- 32:34Speaker 5: that can get a little confusing at times. I think
- 32:36Speaker 5: you just establish who and what you are right from
- 32:39Speaker 5: the first time the ball snapped by the other team.
- 32:42Speaker 1: David Burry, make sure to find him at jeanspage247sports. com. They'll
- 32:45Speaker 1: have you covered all season long with practice reports, updates,
- 32:48Speaker 1: and more. David, thank you so much. We should have
- 32:51Speaker 1: some good weather on Saturday. I did see where Tuscaloosa
- 32:53Speaker 1: is expected to be, like 110 somewhere on the field.
- 32:57Speaker 1: It will be rather warm on Saturday, but you'll be covered.
- 33:01Speaker 5: Well, I'll be covered, but remember, the field press box
- 33:05Speaker 5: does not have air conditioning.
- 33:06Speaker 1: That's right.
- 33:07Speaker 5: It never has, probably never will. So don't act like
- 33:10Speaker 5: I'm in the arms of comfort up there in that box.
- 33:14Speaker 5: At least I'll be in the shade. But, you know,
- 33:16Speaker 5: Levy made that comment to do. 630 start, at least
- 33:19Speaker 5: half the stadium is going to be in shade. So
- 33:22Speaker 5: it shouldn't be too bad at all. And, frankly, with
- 33:24Speaker 5: the buildup to this team, everybody wanted to see Camario play,
- 33:27Speaker 5: wanted to see a faster, more aggressive defense play. And, frankly,
- 33:31Speaker 5: a great chance to obviously get up there and just
- 33:33Speaker 5: watch the team have some fun opening game. And you
- 33:36Speaker 5: don't get to see them again for another couple of
- 33:37Speaker 5: weeks because I think the turnout should be very interesting.
- 33:41Speaker 5: We'll get a judge of what the fan base really
- 33:43Speaker 5: feels about this team, their optimism, by what the crowd
- 33:46Speaker 5: count is come about halftime Saturday.
- 33:48Speaker 1: David and Joy, have a great Labor Day weekend. We'll
- 33:50Speaker 1: talk next week.
- 33:52Speaker 5: Guys, talk to you next Monday.

- 35:00Speaker 1: That is the Cowboy Maloney's text line. And, of course,
- 35:02Speaker 1: Cowboy Maloney's 24 months interest-free financing, same day or next
- 35:05Speaker 1: day delivery. 13 locations around the state. Save time and money.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Do it with Cowboy Maloney's. We'll have Tony Vance coming
- 35:13Speaker 1: in at 440-ish, 445 in an hour. Talk a little
- 35:16Speaker 1: Meridian Wildcat football. We'll get into some high school football
- 35:19Speaker 1: recap over the weekend. I will say this. Tupelo, again,
- 35:22Speaker 1: is the real deal. And I wouldn't be shocked to
- 35:25Speaker 1: see them win the whole thing again at seven. I just,
- 35:27Speaker 1: I wouldn't, they got a really good quarterback, two really
- 35:30Speaker 1: good running backs. They got three division one linebackers. Uh,
- 35:34Speaker 1: they are loaded. Absolutely loaded. All right, let's see here.
- 35:37Speaker 1: Kip talking about the Louisiana governor. He said, have you
- 35:40Speaker 1: heard about, uh, Elon putting a new SpaceX and Vermillion parish, Louisiana?
- 35:44Speaker 1: I have says Landry also put in the work, uh,
- 35:47Speaker 1: on that development. It's worth a hundred billion. He, uh,
- 35:51Speaker 1: Looks like he cares about day-to-day in Louisiana, because we
- 35:53Speaker 1: were joking, saying, does he care about the day-to-day? And look,
- 35:56Speaker 1: of course, he's doing a lot for the state of Louisiana.
- 35:58Speaker 1: He's infiltrated himself, though, into the LSU sports programs. More bully.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Kiffin's approach is any news is good news. He's a
- 36:08Speaker 1: clueless blonde. And Toddy, Jake, have you made your lock
- 36:12Speaker 1: pick of the week yet? I have not, but we will.
- 36:15Speaker 1: I have not made my lock of the week yet,
- 36:17Speaker 1: but I am leaning towards SMU, easily over Florida State. Easily.
- 36:25Speaker 1: All right, let's see here. All right, we've been talking
- 36:27Speaker 1: about this. Ball games, of course, coming up this week.
- 36:30Speaker 1: I am glad we have ball games to discuss because
- 36:33Speaker 1: it feels like all we discuss is court cases, but
- 36:35Speaker 1: that is the news. The edge rusher for Tampa Bay,
- 36:40Speaker 1: Jack Pyburn, has been picked up off waivers by the
- 36:45Speaker 1: Kansas City Chiefs, so he is headed to Kansas City,
- 36:49Speaker 1: not LSU. So it's hard to believe we've got a
- 36:51Speaker 1: bidding award. Are you going to go to the Chiefs
- 36:53Speaker 1: or are you going to LSU? It's just crazy. Also,
- 36:58Speaker 1: Virginia Tech has named Penn State transfer quarterback Ethan Grunkenmeier
- 37:04Speaker 1: as its starting quarterback for James Franklin and Penn State
- 37:06Speaker 1: on Saturday. And again, LSU's Lane Kiffin says he will, quote,
- 37:11Speaker 1: absolutely follow SEC eligibility rules. If the court order is reversed,
- 37:17Speaker 1: that would be on Thursday. He says, I've been in
- 37:19Speaker 1: communication daily with the SEC to make sure we are
- 37:22Speaker 1: complying with the SEC roles. So what they're going to
- 37:24Speaker 1: do is they're teeing these guys up. They're down in
- 37:27Speaker 1: Baton Rouge, likely, these NFL players, four, five, six of them,
- 37:31Speaker 1: or however many it is. And they're waiting. And if
- 37:35Speaker 1: the SEC gets slapped on the hand and says, no,
- 37:37Speaker 1: you have to let them play on Thursday, they'll suit up.
- 37:41Speaker 1: They will literally suit up on Saturday versus Clemson. If not,
- 37:44Speaker 1: I guess Kiffin tells them to take a hike. I
- 37:46Speaker 1: have no idea. Let's see. The real unnamed texter. Need
- 37:50Speaker 1: a super guaranteed lock of the week to get my
- 37:52Speaker 1: house back homeless again. Also, read my text from Saturday.
- 37:57Speaker 5: Laughing.
- 37:57Speaker 1: Let's see. Saturday. Saturday. Does anyone have a cheap place
- 38:01Speaker 1: I can move to because I lost my house again?
- 38:03Speaker 1: I will learn one day. Well, Bieber, would you let
- 38:06Speaker 1: the real unnamed texter grab the floor at your house? Yeah.
- 38:11Speaker 2: It'll be like an old school sleepover.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Like when Bro City used to come over.
- 38:15Speaker 4: Yeah. Our room's not that big, so like it... One
- 38:19Speaker 4: person had to sleep halfway in the closet.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:23Speaker 4: So real undead texture. Half your body's going to be
- 38:25Speaker 4: in the closet, but you've got a floor, and that's
- 38:28Speaker 4: the important. I make a dynamite pallet, by the way.
- 38:31Speaker 1: And you've got- But you didn't know that. Covered ceiling,
- 38:33Speaker 1: air conditioner, heat if you need it, water. You're good.
- 38:37Speaker 1: It's all you need.
- 38:38Speaker 2: I've got cooked steak and cheeses in the fridge.
- 38:41Speaker 1: It's all you need.
- 38:43Speaker 3: 601-897-1059.
- 38:43Speaker 1: If you want to call us on the Mississippi sports medicine,
- 38:46Speaker 1: call the line. Bill Conley is back out with his
- 38:49Speaker 1: SP plus top 772. This is one of my favorite
- 38:52Speaker 1: things of the year during football season. I love how
- 38:55Speaker 1: Bill Conley does ranks every team in football. And I'm
- 38:59Speaker 1: talking about collegiately from division one over to the NIA
- 39:04Speaker 1: and more. And he gives you these weird lines. For instance,
- 39:08Speaker 1: if Maine was to take on Maine, Mary time, Maine
- 39:12Speaker 1: would be a minus 81 point favorite or 89, 89
- 39:16Speaker 1: point favorite. Speaking of, I don't know if you guys
- 39:18Speaker 1: saw this or not over the weekend. Let me go
- 39:19Speaker 1: back to some of this. Let me roll back to
- 39:22Speaker 1: the stack here. Wrong way. There we go. All right.
- 39:26Speaker 1: There we go. All right. Let's see here. Also. over
- 39:32Speaker 1: the weekend where did it go where did it go
- 39:34Speaker 1: yeah South Carolina State defeated Savannah State over the weekend
- 39:37Speaker 1: 87 to nothing now a lot of people are saying
- 39:40Speaker 1: this is poor sportsmanship I go back to the Steve
- 39:44Speaker 1: Spurrier you know mantra hey look we're just running plays
- 39:48Speaker 1: it's up to you to stop us We're just running plays.
- 39:52Speaker 1: Anything over there? Selling taxes. All right, let's see here.
- 39:55Speaker 1: Let's get into this real kindly, real quickly. Of course,
- 39:58Speaker 1: Ohio State is his number one team, followed by Oregon,
- 40:02Speaker 1: Notre Dame, you know, the list down there. So he's got,
- 40:06Speaker 1: let me pull this back. And big win for Jackson State,
- 40:10Speaker 1: by the way, over the weekend. Jackson State gets a
- 40:13Speaker 1: close victory. So the Tigers are off to 1-0. If
- 40:16Speaker 1: we go to the worst team in the country, We
- 40:19Speaker 1: pull this back and go this way. Where did that go?
- 40:21Speaker 1: Hold on. His spreadsheet is massive. Let's see. Maine Mary
- 40:27Speaker 1: time is the worst team in the country. Lawrence as
- 40:30Speaker 1: the second worst team, Dean, New England college, Manchester, Beloit
- 40:35Speaker 1: and Oberlin. And let's see here. Our team Rio Grande
- 40:39Speaker 1: is down there, but they're moving up. Let's see. Arkansas Baptist. Westminster, Missouri.
- 40:48Speaker 1: I'm looking through some of these teams. Simpson, not like
- 40:52Speaker 1: Simpson Academy, Simpson in California. I always look for teams
- 40:57Speaker 1: that we've never heard of because they just seem to
- 40:59Speaker 1: populate here. Swanee is rated 691 in the country. Let's see. Calvin, 625.
- 41:08Speaker 1: Mack in Vicksburg says, I'm sure Maurice Claret was fuming
- 41:11Speaker 1: watching all these NFL guys trying to go back to college.
- 41:14Speaker 1: Probably so. Unnamed texture. My high school coach used to say,
- 41:18Speaker 1: Get a better defense.
- 41:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:20Speaker 1: Do you think that score, did you hear that score
- 41:22Speaker 1: over the weekend? It was, where did it go? Savannah
- 41:29Speaker 1: State lost to South Carolina State 87 to nothing. And
- 41:34Speaker 1: some people said it's bad sportsmanship. And I said, Steve
- 41:36Speaker 1: Spurrier would say, we're just running plays. You got to
- 41:37Speaker 1: stop us. As this texture says, get a better defense. Yeah.
- 41:41Speaker 1: And let's see here. Plymouth State is rated 622. There's
- 41:47Speaker 1: actually a university out there called Colby at 644. And
- 41:52Speaker 1: let's see here. Brevard at 598.
- 41:56Speaker 4: Wait, we have a gate on the text line. There's
- 41:58Speaker 4: one you didn't read. It seems like there's a charter
- 42:01Speaker 4: bus gate now.
- 42:02Speaker 1: Where is this?
- 42:07Speaker 5: Oh, okay.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Unnamed texture. Just tuning in. Thank you for picking that up.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Sorry about that. We have talked about the charter bus
- 42:13Speaker 1: bowl game. From Friday night, Brandon versus Tupelo. The worst
- 42:19Speaker 1: decision ever to rent charter buses for a team that
- 42:22Speaker 1: hasn't done anything. Hopefully, they will be on the yellow
- 42:25Speaker 1: dogs for the rest of the year. Good God almighty. Yeah,
- 42:30Speaker 1: they took... There's nothing wrong with taking charter buses. That's
- 42:33Speaker 1: a long trip.
- 42:33Speaker 4: There's also nothing wrong with taking the old school yellow
- 42:37Speaker 4: buses like teams used to do constantly.
- 42:41Speaker 2: But y'all softer. So let's get the charter.
- 42:45Speaker 5: Charter.
- 42:45Speaker 1: Bus gate out in 042. Mercy me. That was the
- 42:50Speaker 1: best thing for Brandon on Friday because the ball game
- 42:53Speaker 1: was not it. Hour two coming up next. Get ready
