- 0:39Speaker 4: Eight twenty with JKJ Mixed one hundred.
- 0:41Speaker 2: It's gonna be another hot day today, about ninety six
- 0:44Speaker 2: in the Mile High City. That means I got a
- 0:45Speaker 2: bunch of goofy kids probably running around my house in
- 0:48Speaker 2: the air conditioning all day to day.
- 0:50Speaker 4: There's a kid over yesterday.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Though not a fan, well there probably are.
- 0:54Speaker 2: I'm not a fan of the other rowdy eight alf
- 0:57Speaker 2: and they're jumping all over the place, and this one
- 1:00Speaker 2: kid's kind of a punk so well.
- 1:02Speaker 5: I can already feel mine because it's hot attitude coming up,
- 1:05Speaker 5: So I get it with the kids, Like when it
- 1:07Speaker 5: gets like this, you're just waking up on one.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, well there's one in particular though, I don't
- 1:12Speaker 2: care if it's hot or cold or you know.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Every time they're over, I'm like, I don't like it.
- 1:17Speaker 4: I don't like this kid.
- 1:18Speaker 2: I feel bad, you know, as being a grown adult
- 1:21Speaker 2: and you look at this little child, You're like, I
- 1:23Speaker 2: hate you.
- 1:24Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:25Speaker 5: It's funny though, I've had those moments.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Too where you're just like, Zoey, really, this is the friend, this.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Is who we want to be hanging out with. I
- 1:33Speaker 2: don't think that's a good idea because I hate this.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Your friends are a reflection of you.
- 1:38Speaker 4: I'm very short with them when they're over and.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Smell funny.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Kids they all smell funny at this age. Honestly, Yeah,
- 1:47Speaker 4: I hate kids.
- 1:48Speaker 6: Probably just like, hey, mister pat, get out of you
- 1:51Speaker 6: your back, I have a snack, No.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Get out of my house.
- 1:59Speaker 7: I hate you.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Parents, they do. I know exactly. It was probably you, Joshua.
- 2:07Speaker 4: Well when you went to your friend's house. No, my
- 2:09Speaker 4: parents just hated me.
- 2:10Speaker 5: I know, it's when my friend was grinding home because like,
- 2:13Speaker 5: nobody talked to my dad, but my one friend who
- 2:16Speaker 5: did talk to my dad annoyed the crap out of
- 2:18Speaker 5: my dad. Like Hi, mister Richard, Like, mister Richard, love
- 2:25Speaker 5: what you've done with health Kelly. I love her, but man,
- 2:29Speaker 5: she and like everybody kind of feared my dad a
- 2:31Speaker 5: little bit, right because he was tall and just you
- 2:34Speaker 5: only just like dark and moody a little bit. But
- 2:36Speaker 5: like she always just walked up to him and hi,
- 2:38Speaker 5: mister Richard has her day.
- 2:40Speaker 4: And he's like battle jack kid here, smoke eat.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I might I should probably just leave the house and
- 2:51Speaker 2: just go to a movie or something.
- 2:53Speaker 4: I guess. I guess I could do that.
- 2:54Speaker 2: I'm not a big do things by myself kind of guy, though,
- 2:59Speaker 2: so I don't know if I could do that.
- 3:00Speaker 3: You know, it's so funny.
- 3:01Speaker 5: So that's kind of floating around on TikTok right now
- 3:04Speaker 5: called the solo table theory.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Have you heard of the low table theory. Yes, it's
- 3:08Speaker 4: an incredible see well, it's kind of it's.
- 3:10Speaker 5: Like a mindful self growth concept, right because we'll ask
- 3:15Speaker 5: yourself this question. Because I am able to go out
- 3:19Speaker 5: and eat at a restaurant by myself, no problem, but
- 3:21Speaker 5: there are a lot of people out there who did
- 3:23Speaker 5: make them uneasy.
- 3:24Speaker 3: So soon you go out to eat by yourself?
- 3:28Speaker 4: Never, no, never done it? Never, I I can't wait,
- 3:32Speaker 4: You've never done it. But I've never rolled into.
- 3:34Speaker 2: An olive garden and pulled up at a booth and
- 3:36Speaker 2: had my little basket of breadsticks all by myself.
- 3:38Speaker 4: I never done lay, you know, like to sit down,
- 3:42Speaker 4: zip in and out.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Never.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Wow, I am never shocked.
- 3:47Speaker 2: About you habitually single. So like, do you want to
- 3:51Speaker 2: go do things?
- 3:52Speaker 4: If you want to go do things, you are going
- 3:54Speaker 4: to be alone.
- 3:54Speaker 5: But even when I had with family picket fence animal situation,
- 3:59Speaker 5: I when I myself like, I still love to be
- 4:04Speaker 5: by myself.
- 4:05Speaker 4: Done well.
- 4:06Speaker 5: And they're saying like, so this is a new thing
- 4:08Speaker 5: because it goes along with all the stay away from
- 4:10Speaker 5: technology stuff, right, But also they say sitting alone intentionally
- 4:16Speaker 5: dining or sitting alone in public builds quiet confidence.
- 4:20Speaker 3: So that's part of it. Is proves you don't need constant.
- 4:24Speaker 5: Distractions or external validations to feel complete.
- 4:27Speaker 3: But it's not just people.
- 4:28Speaker 5: It is literally being able to sit in silence and
- 4:31Speaker 5: observe what's going around you.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Without having to look at your phone.
- 4:35Speaker 5: And it also say that the anxiety of eating alone
- 4:39Speaker 5: is largely in our heads because we think people are
- 4:41Speaker 5: judging us.
- 4:42Speaker 4: No one notices.
- 4:49Speaker 5: Most people are so absorbed in their own little worlds
- 4:52Speaker 5: like oh no, no, no, no no. So I think that
- 4:55Speaker 5: a lot of people have it in their heads that
- 4:57Speaker 5: eating alone automatically makes them look lonely, makes them look like,
- 5:01Speaker 5: you know, they don't have any friends.
- 5:04Speaker 3: But really it says that.
- 5:05Speaker 5: You know, if you're visibly comfortable being alone in a
- 5:08Speaker 5: public setting, people really look at you as you're secured
- 5:12Speaker 5: and self assured. So I think that it really is
- 5:16Speaker 5: a lot of it is in our minds. But they say,
- 5:19Speaker 5: if you have a struggle with this, like Jeremy, if you.
- 5:21Speaker 4: Think struggling with being alone, well.
- 5:24Speaker 3: People are gonna judge you.
- 5:25Speaker 4: For struggle with being alone, called Frank hazar.
- 5:32Speaker 8: No.
- 5:32Speaker 5: But they say to go try and practice it. Go
- 5:34Speaker 5: sit at a restaurant, put your phone.
- 5:36Speaker 4: Away, so it's it's without your phone without doing that.
- 5:41Speaker 4: I love a.
- 5:41Speaker 6: Good dining alone experience, like, honestly, it's fine. I've been
- 5:44Speaker 6: single too for a long time, Katie, and even with
- 5:47Speaker 6: girlfriends in the past, like I'm not with them constantly,
- 5:50Speaker 6: and you know, a guy gets hungry, So I don't
- 5:54Speaker 6: think I've had a problem with that. But if I'm
- 5:57Speaker 6: just sitting there eating my food looking around at people,
- 5:59Speaker 6: that would get me a little creeped out.
- 6:02Speaker 4: I don't. I love having the phone and.
- 6:06Speaker 6: Being able to just you know, scroll TikTok while I'm
- 6:08Speaker 6: eating my Chick fil a sandwich, you know, but I
- 6:10Speaker 6: think that you do look a little bit creepy.
- 6:14Speaker 3: When you're not looking at your phone.
- 6:15Speaker 6: Well, if you're just eating making eye contact with someone,
- 6:17Speaker 6: you're sitting a love.
- 6:18Speaker 3: In contact, but like looking around and observing.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I would the people across from me in two street
- 6:23Speaker 2: concept awkward eye contact.
- 6:27Speaker 5: But they say, embracing the stillness is part of this,
- 6:29Speaker 5: So yeah, they encourage you to put the phone away,
- 6:32Speaker 5: put the devices, to simply sit with your thoughts and
- 6:35Speaker 5: be fully present.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Thought would So, I guess you don't like it's all
- 6:45Speaker 3: trend buzzy.
- 6:46Speaker 4: It's all trend and I'm on my alone eating journeys.
- 6:50Speaker 3: They say, what it really does.
- 6:53Speaker 5: It re establishes solitude as a form of arrival rather
- 6:59Speaker 5: than an absence of connection.
- 7:00Speaker 4: Oh yeah, so there.
- 7:02Speaker 5: You go, Buzzy and trymotivation dot com right now, or
- 7:06Speaker 5: so calling it a power move Jared rather than a
- 7:09Speaker 5: consolation press sitting there.
- 7:11Speaker 4: Shoving breadsticks in your mouth by yourself as a power
- 7:13Speaker 4: movement so powerful.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Have this list in front of me of the things
- 7:22Speaker 2: that dads actually want for Father's Day, and one of
- 7:25Speaker 2: the things on the list is just to be left alone,
- 7:28Speaker 2: so I could smoke meats.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Oh I thought I heard say beef, No.
- 7:31Speaker 4: Beef and smoking meats. Just leave me alone.
- 7:34Speaker 2: That's one of my most favorite things, smoking meat. So
- 7:37Speaker 2: I get it. But yeah, Father's Days on Sundays, Sunday Sundays.
- 7:42Speaker 4: So don't forget like I didn't. Whoops.
- 7:46Speaker 2: And we want to talk about dads and all the
- 7:49Speaker 2: fun things that dads say. So phone lines are wide
- 7:52Speaker 2: open if you want to sound off. Three h three
- 7:53Speaker 2: six nine one sixteen forty nine were some of the
- 7:57Speaker 2: dadisms that dad used to say growing up.
- 7:59Speaker 4: Things he told you that you're kind of like, I
- 8:02Speaker 4: don't know, is that true?
- 8:05Speaker 2: Like will lightning really come through the telephone line and
- 8:07Speaker 2: strike me if I'm talking on the.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Phone, yeah?
- 8:10Speaker 5: Or just funny saints, right, because my dad used to
- 8:14Speaker 5: say the same thing, but it was so funny every
- 8:16Speaker 5: time he said it, and he had a lot of those.
- 8:18Speaker 3: So that's what I'm thinking. Yeah, a lot of different things.
- 8:21Speaker 6: My dad was one of the things, like it made
- 8:23Speaker 6: me believe that like turning on the light in the
- 8:26Speaker 6: car while you were driving at night, you were gonna
- 8:28Speaker 6: get pulled over, right, Like turn that, dad back. Or
- 8:31Speaker 6: you know, if you touch the thermostat or leave a
- 8:33Speaker 6: window open, I'm not you know, cooling down or heating
- 8:36Speaker 6: up the other Dad, the entire neighborhood.
- 8:39Speaker 4: Coffee stunt your growth. Yes, I drank a lot of
- 8:42Speaker 4: coffee as a child. Shot it.
- 8:46Speaker 2: So what were some of the fun things that your
- 8:47Speaker 2: dad said to you? Skip the stereotypical ones, you know,
- 8:50Speaker 2: like we're not, you know, cool in the outdoors three
- 8:52Speaker 2: zho three six y nine one sixteen forty nine, calls
- 8:56Speaker 2: and comments. The phone lines are wide open if you
- 8:59Speaker 2: guys want to say off about dad. So what were
- 9:01Speaker 2: some of the ones that your dad said, Katie.
- 9:03Speaker 5: Okay, So my dad, whenever he was like not having
- 9:07Speaker 5: something right, when it was just not okay, he would
- 9:09Speaker 5: be like, well, that dog won't hunt, that dog won't
- 9:12Speaker 5: even come out from under the front porch, and he
- 9:16Speaker 5: said it all the time, like constantly. Whenever he didn't
- 9:21Speaker 5: like something, it was, well, that dog won't hunt. That
- 9:24Speaker 5: dog won't even come out from underneath the front porch.
- 9:27Speaker 4: So it doesn't have to be a dog like with dogs. Yes,
- 9:31Speaker 4: it's from North Dakota.
- 9:32Speaker 3: It's from North Dakota.
- 9:33Speaker 5: But for whatever reason is John Wayne kicked in to
- 9:37Speaker 5: tell us about the dog under the porch. But he
- 9:39Speaker 5: also like anytime we asked, hey, Dad, what's for dinner,
- 9:42Speaker 5: he'd say food.
- 9:43Speaker 3: And then when we say hey, well what kind of food?
- 9:45Speaker 5: Dad?
- 9:46Speaker 3: The kind of hate? Those are all the things he
- 9:50Speaker 3: said all the time. And then you lie like a
- 9:53Speaker 3: cheap rod.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Yeah that's a classic too.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Yeah, so many.
- 9:59Speaker 4: My dad had, so that one. He always used to
- 10:01Speaker 4: say the the I never wanted you. That was a
- 10:04Speaker 4: good one.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Always want.
- 10:08Speaker 4: I don't think you're even mine. I think that was funny.
- 10:12Speaker 4: Bring me my whiskey if you need me. I'll be
- 10:16Speaker 4: passed out in the bathtub. That was the car.
- 10:19Speaker 3: He didn't say it, he just did it.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Stop looking at me, Oh, dad, Ron says, my dad
- 10:27Speaker 2: told me if I drove with less than a quarter
- 10:29Speaker 2: tank of gas, all the dirt from the bottom of
- 10:31Speaker 2: the gas tank will get sucked into the engine and
- 10:34Speaker 2: destroy my car instantly.
- 10:36Speaker 4: Geez, Dad, I guess that's Dad's way of telling you
- 10:39Speaker 4: just to put gas in your cars. You always prepared.
- 10:42Speaker 2: My dad used to convince us that every single buffet
- 10:46Speaker 2: put laxatives in the food to keep people from eating
- 10:49Speaker 2: too much.
- 10:50Speaker 4: That was from Jennifer. That's pretty good.
- 10:53Speaker 8: Uh.
- 10:53Speaker 2: And then Amanda wrote in and said, my dad insisted
- 10:56Speaker 2: every hotel room had hidden microphones, so you needed to
- 11:00Speaker 2: be quiet on vacation.
- 11:03Speaker 4: It's brilliant.
- 11:04Speaker 3: A smart dad moves right.
- 11:06Speaker 4: Dad's my brilliant, Amanda.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Those kids in line, I got to.
- 11:10Speaker 4: Use that one.
- 11:11Speaker 2: What are the things your dad told you? Three zho
- 11:13Speaker 2: three six nine one, sixteen forty nine. Here is Ricky. Hi, Ricky,
- 11:17Speaker 2: welcome to the show. Hi.
- 11:20Speaker 7: How are you well?
- 11:20Speaker 4: We're super dupes. Would your dad used.
- 11:23Speaker 7: To tell you? My dad used to tell me if
- 11:25Speaker 7: you like, had an all nighter for like high school,
- 11:28Speaker 7: and you couldn't finish your homework and you stay up
- 11:30Speaker 7: all night, and then the next day you felt so yucky,
- 11:33Speaker 7: and he'd say, if you don't eat, you've got to sleep.
- 11:36Speaker 7: If you don't sleep, You've got to eat. You got
- 11:39Speaker 7: to feel your body somehow. So even when you feel
- 11:42Speaker 7: crappy when you wake up after you pull them or
- 11:45Speaker 7: you know, all nighter, you have to eat. Oh really,
- 11:48Speaker 7: you all live by it. When I feel crappy, I'm like,
- 11:51Speaker 7: I never got a sleep or eat.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Probably wise to live an excuse to pound a bunch
- 11:55Speaker 2: of food in your face.
- 11:56Speaker 5: I guess I like your dad a lot.
- 12:00Speaker 4: Were you pulling an all night or like studying or partying?
- 12:04Speaker 2: Uh?
- 12:05Speaker 7: Either a little bit of both.
- 12:09Speaker 4: Yeah, he's like, honey, you're hungover again. You need to eat,
- 12:14Speaker 4: mostly not with my dad.
- 12:16Speaker 5: Yeah, good advice. It stuck with you obviously, Ricky.
- 12:20Speaker 4: What was your dad's name, rick rick Wick?
- 12:24Speaker 7: And yeah, yeah, we did that.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Yeah, that was we did that, Ricky. Thank you for
- 12:32Speaker 2: the call, really appreciate it.
- 12:35Speaker 7: But happy Father's Day. Have a good thank you.
- 12:37Speaker 4: Thank you. All right, if anyone else wants to sound off.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I got two lines right now three h three six
- 12:42Speaker 2: nine one sixteen forty nine.
- 12:45Speaker 6: Uh.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Somebody on the text line in the four nine eight says,
- 12:49Speaker 2: my dad told me squirrels remember every human they've ever met?
- 12:53Speaker 4: Is that true? Now? Do they hold grudges?
- 12:57Speaker 5: Or something are smart, so I'd leave to It's the truth, right.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Samantha rode in and said, my dad always told us
- 13:05Speaker 2: if you swallowed a fruit sticker, doctors would have to
- 13:08Speaker 2: surgically remove it. I was terrified of stickers on apples
- 13:12Speaker 2: for years.
- 13:16Speaker 4: That's a good one. Hi, Gregory, Hey, how's going well?
- 13:20Speaker 4: We're super dupes, buddy. What did your dad used to say?
- 13:25Speaker 8: I guess it's not really a funny one. But he
- 13:27Speaker 8: always told me to keep my eyes on the price.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Keep your eye on the prize, work harder, right.
- 13:33Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, yeah, had me focus on the main goal
- 13:37Speaker 8: behind what I'm trying to achieve.
- 13:39Speaker 4: Well, what's your main goal right now? Gregory?
- 13:43Speaker 8: Staying clean and sober?
- 13:44Speaker 2: Had a boy I on the prize, Gregory, good luck
- 13:48Speaker 2: by friend, all right, good luck.
- 13:49Speaker 4: Appreciate you, buddy.
- 13:50Speaker 2: A couple more on the text line, my dad said
- 13:53Speaker 2: every shopping cart with a wobbly wheel was deliberately made
- 13:56Speaker 2: that way to slow down shoplifters.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Sticky fingers, just watch out.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Oh no, every shopping carts like that. Let's see here.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Chris wrote in and said, my dad claimed that all
- 14:10Speaker 2: gas stations get their gas from the exact same giant
- 14:14Speaker 2: underground gas tank.
- 14:16Speaker 4: I believed it for years. Okay, that's damn funny.
- 14:19Speaker 5: That is unbelievable, right, like you would all believe that.
- 14:24Speaker 4: I know.
- 14:24Speaker 2: For me, my dad was always lecturing about never mowing
- 14:28Speaker 2: the lawn when there's wet grass, if the grass is a.
- 14:31Speaker 4: Little bit dewey or anything.
- 14:33Speaker 2: He swore to me every time, if you do that,
- 14:36Speaker 2: you will slide underneath the lawnmower and it will slice
- 14:39Speaker 2: your legs off. Oh yeah, I still think about this day.
- 14:43Speaker 2: When I go out and try to mow the lawn,
- 14:44Speaker 2: I'm like, is it dry?
- 14:46Speaker 4: Is it dry? I don't want to lose.
- 14:47Speaker 3: A foot gory, like I know, right, my dad just
- 14:51Speaker 3: said it RUMs the blade. But you're dude, said.
- 14:53Speaker 4: You will die les off me yuh my goodness, I mean.
- 14:58Speaker 9: Up hi, Hi, good morning, Well, good morning.
- 15:02Speaker 4: Tell us about your dad. What did he tell you?
- 15:05Speaker 9: Oh my gosh, well, it's it's hard. He'sn't gone a
- 15:07Speaker 9: long time. But growing up, I was daddy's girl and
- 15:09Speaker 9: it was only me and my brother, right, And so
- 15:12Speaker 9: he would go Instead of saying no to me, he
- 15:15Speaker 9: would say, we'll see donna, kay, And I knew that
- 15:19Speaker 9: meant no, and I was like, who in the hell
- 15:21Speaker 9: is Donna Kay? There's only two of us?
- 15:25Speaker 4: Did you ever find that out? What that meant?
- 15:28Speaker 9: No?
- 15:29Speaker 5: No, I go.
- 15:31Speaker 9: I used to watch Sit Comes with his dad. There's
- 15:34Speaker 9: no characters named Donna Kay, you know, And I was like,
- 15:37Speaker 9: where in the hell did he get that? You know,
- 15:39Speaker 9: It's like, where is that coming from? Yeah? That was
- 15:42Speaker 9: my dad thing.
- 15:43Speaker 8: To this day.
- 15:44Speaker 4: Isn't that such a parent thing?
- 15:46Speaker 8: Though?
- 15:46Speaker 2: Like every kid eventually finds out that will c means no,
- 15:50Speaker 2: it's not happening.
- 15:51Speaker 3: No, exactly.
- 15:54Speaker 9: In a favorite right, he had his lady easy, you know,
- 15:58Speaker 9: it's like, don't get it all freaked out, don't.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Much love to you and your family and thoughts of
- 16:05Speaker 2: your dad's this Sunday all right.
