- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop, and
- 0:23let's start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. Let's talk about roots.
- 0:31So today I'm in the garage opening the doors very, very
- 0:35early and I've got tomatoes that are very tall.
- 0:39Now we're talking about 24 inches and the roots are coming
- 0:44out the bottom of the pot. And I love that.
- 0:48I love that that this experiment worked.
- 0:50I love that we have so many cool things going on with it.
- 0:53And it really started me thinking because I've used the
- 0:56word root so much this week. And it's not just because of the
- 1:00tomatoes, but in my sessions with people I have been talking
- 1:04non-stop about the root cause of an emotion, the root.
- 1:08Where is the root in all of this?
- 1:10Let's take that and go back down.
- 1:12And there was no intention in it really, other than I'm working
- 1:16to help them figure out why they're having the thoughts
- 1:19they're having so that we can deal with them.
- 1:23But when you get into looking back and saying, OK, what's the
- 1:26root of this? Where, where did it come from?
- 1:29Where is it going? What happened here?
- 1:31A lot of times you find some stuff that can help you.
- 1:34So a lot of people right now have been asking, you know, I, I
- 1:39feel like I'm looping. I feel like my emotion is all
- 1:43over the place and I don't I, I don't know which emotion I'm,
- 1:48I'm in and I say, well, let's go back.
- 1:50Let's find the root of all of this because sometimes it's on
- 1:53all what it all seems like it's coming from many different
- 1:57emotions is really coming from one emotion.
- 1:59And who knows what emotion that you're in most of the time until
- 2:04you look, you can't figure it out.
- 2:06So here we go. How do you figure it out?
- 2:09The first thing that you have to do is stop and ask yourself a
- 2:12very, very critical question, which is this emotion that keeps
- 2:18knocking in my head, feels all over the place, but what is it
- 2:23trying to tell me? You have to know what it's
- 2:26trying to say. The first thing is ask the
- 2:28question. What is it trying to tell me?
- 2:31Because if you know what it's trying to tell you, then you
- 2:34have a chance at decoding it. You have a chance at figuring
- 2:37out what it's saying. But until you ask the question,
- 2:40what is it trying to teach me? You're what is it saying?
- 2:44What is it? What is it communicating?
- 2:46Any way you want to say it, you're not going to be able to
- 2:49figure it out. It's going to it's going to
- 2:50cause an issue. So when you start to know that
- 2:54all of a sudden everything else changes.
- 2:56Now, the next piece of this puzzle, once you start to hear
- 3:00what it's trying to say and you slow down and you say, what's
- 3:03the emotion that I'm feeling most consistently?
- 3:07Because there is so many different emotions that we all
- 3:10feel. Yes, that's all true.
- 3:12But you have to figure out what am I feeling most consistently?
- 3:15What is that one that just keeps showing up, showing up, showing
- 3:19up, showing up, showing up, showing up, showing up.
- 3:21Because that's the one that's going to really tell us the
- 3:25truth about all of it. It's going to give us everything
- 3:28we need to know when we understand that one single piece
- 3:33of the puzzle. OK.
- 3:34And if you can, if you can just take a second for yourself and
- 3:40truly think about, OK, is this consistent?
- 3:44Is this, is this something that I'm feeling a lot of the time
- 3:48you're going to have a very different answer in how to
- 3:51handle it because if it's consistent, now you know what to
- 3:54do. Whenever things are consistent
- 3:56in our world, we can figure out how to go back and deal with it.
- 4:00We can look at something and say, OK, this shows up all the
- 4:03time. I don't know, you know, where it
- 4:05came from. And it doesn't matter where it
- 4:06came from. It only matters that it's
- 4:08showing up so consistently because it's giving you the same
- 4:11message over and over. And clearly we're not handling
- 4:14the problem. Like for many people, there's a
- 4:16ton of stress that comes in and that stress that comes in comes
- 4:20in from work. And there's something at work
- 4:23that's causing us this stress. And we might complain, we might
- 4:27sit there and have conversation about it, but we're not actually
- 4:30detaching the emotion and the entanglement of the emotion so
- 4:34we can get a handle on how to what to do with it because we
- 4:38cannot figure it out from when we're in that emotion.
- 4:41I promise you, nothing good is going to come from staying in
- 4:45the emotion that got you aware. I know that sounds like a really
- 4:48strange thing to say, but it's true.
- 4:50You have to get out of the emotion that put you there to
- 4:53make you aware, to get to a different emotion, to help you
- 4:57get, you know, to transcend the situation.
- 5:01So it's incredibly important to figure out what are these
- 5:05consistent emotions. And if you do that, and if you
- 5:09take the time to do it, you will see a difference.
- 5:12And these are things that can be small.
- 5:14They can be large, all different kinds of things are in our
- 5:18world. They can, they don't have to
- 5:20just be, oh, I'm overwhelmed and it's taking me down.
- 5:24These can be little, you know, consistent annoying things.
- 5:27You know, let's just say your body is having a reaction.
- 5:30You have headaches, you have rashes, you have hives, all
- 5:33these things. It's showing up for a reason.
- 5:35Whether it's, you know, a, a, a physical, environmental thing or
- 5:39it's a mental thing. There's something showing up and
- 5:41you have to figure out what's consistent.
- 5:43So go look, ask the right questions, and let's see if we
- 5:47can decode it. It's a big one this time because
- 5:49it takes awareness. So slow down and be aware.
- 5:53All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:55will see you tomorrow. Bye.
