- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to today's episode of the Daily Rider Podcast.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: One of the most fascinating characters of Hollywood's classic film era is Norma Desmond, who is the lead character of 1950s Sunset Boulevard.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: She's a silent film era actress who lives in a fantasy world where she makes a triumphant return to her glory days of cinema.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: In the final scene of Sunset Boulevard, Norma Desmond has completely lost touch with reality as the police and reporters with cameras fill her house, and she can't see the reality that they're actually there to take her away because she shot and killed somebody.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: But in her own mind, she's the star of yet another Hollywood picture.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: And the movie ends with Norma Desmond making a speech that ends with the chilling line, Alright, Mr.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up, as she moves toward the camera and the picture fades out.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: And just like Norma Desmond, we can get lost in our own fantasy world as well.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: We can get so enamored and obsessed with our stories, our goals, our plans, and our projects that we start to ignore the people in our lives and lose touch with reality.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: You know, writing is part of your life, but writing is not your total life.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: So don't lose touch with reality.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Don't lose touch with the people in your life who love you and who care about you.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Keep good, healthy boundaries and make sure that writing stays in its proper place in your life.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Here's today's question: Are you ever tempted to get lost in the fantasy world of your own goals, dreams, and projects?
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: Be honest.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
