- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Hey, my friend, welcome to this episode of the Daily Writer Podcast.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: We writers, by definition, tend to be an introverted group of people who don't like change.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: I mean, let's just be honest.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Most of us like systems, predictability, and routine.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: We would prefer sitting in a room alone for hours in front of a computer screen instead of being in a large group of people.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Which is all well and good, of course, but the downside of the typical writer personality is that we have a hard time with change and risk.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: However, we must remember that nothing is certain.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: There are no guarantees either when you have a writing business where you serve clients, or whether you're writing and launching your own books and other types of content.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: There's more change and disruption happening in the world today than probably at any other point in human history.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: All bets are off and every industry is undergoing massive change because of technology.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: But instead of seeing this as a threat, we can see it as a pretty great thing.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Because it means we get to build the kind of business and the life that we want.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: It also means that we need to let go of our preconceived notions about what to expect in life.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: We've got to roll with the punches, we've got to be nimble and be able to change and grow to take advantage of all these new opportunities.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: And this means that, yes, our long-term goals are important, but our short-term goals and strategies might need to be reconsidered.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Remember what Charles Dickens wrote at the beginning of A Tale of Two Cities?
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: He said, It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: But the cool thing today is that you and I get to choose which one it's going to be for us.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: And it begins by letting go of expectations, having some fun, and being willing to adapt and grow.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: That is the surefire way to make sure that this is the best of times.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Here's today's daily question.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Do you see this moment in time as the best of times or as the worst of times?
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: And why?
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
