- 0:01The question of possession by vital beings has been
- 0:04sensationalized to such an extent in modern society, with
- 0:09an entire genre of motion pictures depicting such things
- 0:13in an extreme way, that it is difficult to have a serious
- 0:17discussion and review of whatever reality underlies these
- 0:21sensational tales. It is also true that in some
- 0:26cases, people were accused of being possessed not because of
- 0:31actual possession, but due to desire, greed, fear, or other
- 0:37motives of individuals in a position to press the claim.
- 0:43The Salem Witch Trials in Salem, MA represent such a misguided
- 0:48approach to the subject. The Holy Inquisition conducted
- 0:52by the Catholic Church also distorted the question of
- 0:56possession based on motives of power, greed, and control.
- 1:02These things tend to undermine the credibility of reports of
- 1:05true possession as we confuse the misguided and sensational
- 1:10reports and events with actual underlying reality that can be
- 1:14seen or documented. In this light, the Mother
- 1:20details experiences she had in relation to cases of possession.
- 1:25It should be noted that not everyone who acts in an
- 1:28unpredictable or even seemingly irrational way can be described
- 1:33as possessed. There are numerous potential
- 1:36causes of extreme unorthodox behavior that cannot be chalked
- 1:41up to this cause in modern society.
- 1:44We have to add the widespread use of psychotropic drugs as
- 1:49another potential cause of uncontrolled behavioral
- 1:52manifestations. The underlying causes and the
- 1:56question of possible possession are not always mutually
- 2:01exclusive. Drugs, neurochemical imbalances,
- 2:06physical injury, or trauma of various sorts, including
- 2:10psychological trauma, may evidence similar behaviors as
- 2:14possession, but this does not exclude the possibility of their
- 2:18masking a case of possession or opening the door to it.
- 2:23Careful study and review must be undertaken to do an accurate
- 2:27differential diagnosis with potentially multiple layers of
- 2:32involvement to bring about the manifested behavior suspected of
- 2:36being cases of possession. The disciple asks, Are mentally
- 2:43deranged people possessed? The mother answers Yes, unless
- 2:49there is a physical lesion, a defect in the formation or an
- 2:54accident, a congestion, in all other cases it is always a
- 2:59possession. The proof of it is that if a
- 3:02person is brought to you who is altogether mentally deranged, if
- 3:07he has a lesion he cannot be cured, while if there is no
- 3:12physical lesion, if it is a possession, then one can cure
- 3:16him. Unfortunately, these things
- 3:18happen only to people who like them.
- 3:22There must be in the being much ambition, vanity, combined with
- 3:26much stupidity and a terrible pride.
- 3:29It is on such things that those beings play.
- 3:33I have known cases like that of persons who were partially
- 3:36possessed, and I succeeded in freeing them from the beings who
- 3:40possessed them. Naturally they felt some relief,
- 3:45a kind of ease, for a time, but it did not last long.
- 3:49Almost immediately it wore off, and they thought, Now I have
- 3:53become quite an ordinary creature, whereas before I was
- 3:57an exceptional being. They used to feel within them an
- 4:03exceptional power, even if it was a power to do evil, and they
- 4:09were satisfied with it. So what did they do?
- 4:13They called back with all their force the power they had lost.
- 4:17Of course, the being that had been destroyed could not come
- 4:21back, but as these beings exist in thousands, it was replaced by
- 4:26another. I've seen this happen three
- 4:29times consecutively in a case. So much so that in the end I had
- 4:35to tell the person I am tired, get rid of it yourself, I am no
- 4:40longer interested. End Quote Reference Sri
