Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The Patriots are back in pads after a day off,
- 0:02Speaker 1: but they were inside the field house today a little
- 0:04Speaker 1: bit wet.
- 0:05Speaker 2: They still got after it. Let's get into it.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome everybody to the training Camp cast presented by New
- 0:18Speaker 1: Balance and Yes, today was practice number seven.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Paw, is that crazy number eight number? It's because you
- 0:24Speaker 2: weren't there, the one that I missed. You missed one day,
- 0:28Speaker 2: I missed one.
- 0:30Speaker 1: But let's start off with something crazy. AJ Brown dislocated
- 0:33Speaker 1: his thumb and kept practicing. We didn't find out till
- 0:35Speaker 1: afterwards we saw him.
- 0:35Speaker 2: How did you know?
- 0:37Speaker 1: Spoken an NFL network afterwards, A J. Brown came in
- 0:41Speaker 1: and told us, but don't worry everybody, he finished practice.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Doesn't look like something major, but a little bit of
- 0:45Speaker 1: news there. Nobody wants to see him get her.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Yeah, there was a rep early on him, and Christian
- 0:50Speaker 3: Gonzale says, they've done, you know, several times already joined
- 0:53Speaker 3: this camp. Pretty physical at the point, and then all
- 0:55Speaker 3: of a sudden, it looked like Brown just kind of
- 0:57Speaker 3: stopped his route. Gonzo ended up picking the pass off
- 1:00Speaker 3: off you know at that stage went over.
- 1:02Speaker 2: It was with the trainers for a little while.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Looked like he got taped up, and then he was
- 1:06Speaker 3: right back out there for the next team period and
- 1:07Speaker 3: took part in the rest of the practice. So I
- 1:09Speaker 3: wouldn't be overly concerned about it. I don't think Aja
- 1:13Speaker 3: himself would have been talking about it as much as
- 1:15Speaker 3: he did if it was something to worry about.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Yeah, he'd been caught a couple slants after that, Yeah,
- 1:19Speaker 1: one down the field passed with Caroon Pronci and coverage.
- 1:21Speaker 2: But he looks like he's going to be okay.
- 1:23Speaker 1: But overall, and I'd say a lot of like maybe
- 1:25Speaker 1: short yardage running work today, more red zone stuff. You
- 1:28Speaker 1: can see how they're really starting to string this whole
- 1:30Speaker 1: thing together.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I think, you know, when you have a condensed
- 1:32Speaker 4: field inside, there's no real point in putting the ball
- 1:35Speaker 4: on the twenty and trying to play a full field game.
- 1:37Speaker 4: So I think they were more intight today. But I
- 1:40Speaker 4: feel like we're getting into the point of training camp
- 1:42Speaker 4: now where there's a little bit of that grind and
- 1:44Speaker 4: that tension building up.
- 1:46Speaker 2: And it was to stuff.
- 1:47Speaker 4: It was inside, it was hot, it was a little
- 1:50Speaker 4: bit of back and forth. Very early on in practice,
- 1:53Speaker 4: Romeo Dobbs took an end around and Craig Woodson kind
- 1:56Speaker 4: of took him to the ground, and I was like, whoa, Okay,
- 1:58Speaker 4: it's going to be that kind of day. So I
- 2:00Speaker 4: think that it was a little bit of that is brewing.
- 2:03Speaker 4: You know, you've been practicing impads against the same people
- 2:06Speaker 4: for multiple practices now.
- 2:09Speaker 3: I will just say real quick, on that play, I
- 2:11Speaker 3: had the same initial reaction that Evan just did, and
- 2:13Speaker 3: I was like, whoa. Well, so that I think Hunter
- 2:16Speaker 3: Henry may have kind of helped Woodson along it. I
- 2:21Speaker 3: wo just I don't want people to think that we
- 2:23Speaker 3: were yeah.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Carry on, carry on.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I don't want to make too much of it though,
- 2:27Speaker 1: but the connection I thought still made it was Tommy
- 2:30Speaker 1: DeVito with MATC Collins three a few touchdowns. I mean,
- 2:32Speaker 1: you know, we're getting something, Like you said, ev it's
- 2:33Speaker 1: getting to be a little bit of a grind. But
- 2:35Speaker 1: I do think it's worth pointing out, you know, some
- 2:37Speaker 1: of these guys on the second team reps that are,
- 2:39Speaker 1: you know, consistently making plays. I think Tommy DeVito and
- 2:41Speaker 1: Baron Morton, by that note, have both been pretty.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Solid this camp.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Seems like Baron Morton's getting more opportunities than we saw.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Ben Wooldridge get last year and the ball just to
- 2:50Speaker 1: Paul's thing, it doesn't really hit the ground a lot
- 2:52Speaker 1: no matter who's in there.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I just think it's a positive sign. I know, look, we.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Don't want to see Tommy DeVito, we'd like to stick
- 2:56Speaker 1: with Drake May for the length of the season, but
- 2:58Speaker 1: promising signing that this guy came in. They gave them
- 3:01Speaker 1: basically the backup job and he's performing pretty well.
- 3:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I would say with DeVito, you want to see
- 3:07Speaker 4: those guys be able to showcase their skills more so
- 3:10Speaker 4: maybe than I'm worried about Tommy DeVito. And sometimes we
- 3:13Speaker 4: see these backup quarterbacks that frankly are just so inaccurate
- 3:17Speaker 4: that you can't really gauge the receivers. And mac Collins
- 3:20Speaker 4: you mentioned, I would say Kayshawn Boody to an extent
- 3:23Speaker 4: as well.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Today.
- 3:24Speaker 4: Both those guys, whenever they rep with the twos, it's
- 3:27Speaker 4: so clear that they are cut above everybody else that's
- 3:29Speaker 4: on the field. Mac Collins had a couple, but I
- 3:32Speaker 4: think the best throw of the day was the back
- 3:33Speaker 4: pylon throw that de Vito made the Booty and that
- 3:37Speaker 4: one was great. Yeah, right on the money. Could not
- 3:40Speaker 4: be defended because it was just so perfectly placed. So
- 3:43Speaker 4: both those receivers, it's very clear to me when they
- 3:46Speaker 4: get down to the twos and are just we talk
- 3:48Speaker 4: about it all the time. There's seven guys that they
- 3:50Speaker 4: need to get reps for, and Mac Collins and Kaysehan
- 3:54Speaker 4: Boody will sometimes get the rep with the twos and
- 3:57Speaker 4: it's just very clear that they're too good for that
- 4:00Speaker 4: group of people on an NFL field. So Mac Collins
- 4:03Speaker 4: did almost take out a reporter. I'm not going to
- 4:05Speaker 4: name names he did. Okay, no, it was. It was
- 4:09Speaker 4: pretty close, but it was. It was a good showing
- 4:12Speaker 4: from I think all those guys, Booty, Holland's nice practices.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Good back and forth. I thought I thought they were
- 4:17Speaker 2: pretty competitive. I agree with you.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Those guys caught passes, but I thought there was some
- 4:23Speaker 3: some balls they could have caught that they didn't, both
- 4:25Speaker 3: Holland's in and Booty, And especially with Booty, it's striking
- 4:29Speaker 3: to me because generally anytime the ball gets thrown to
- 4:31Speaker 3: him and he gets his hands on it, he catches it.
- 4:33Speaker 3: There were a couple today that well is slant went
- 4:35Speaker 3: off his hands up.
- 4:36Speaker 4: Yeah, that was a clear drop on this line, and.
- 4:38Speaker 3: There were a couple of the times I thought Holland
- 4:41Speaker 3: showed some frustration. We're getting getting locked up a little bit.
- 4:44Speaker 3: So I did think there was some good back and forth.
- 4:46Speaker 3: We heard from Kevin Bayert after practice sort of talked
- 4:49Speaker 3: about the value of that you don't want, you know,
- 4:51Speaker 3: it's never going to be one side just sort of
- 4:53Speaker 3: carrying the day. And and I don't think that was
- 4:55Speaker 3: the case today. Good good, solid competition, good heat. I
- 4:58Speaker 3: thought between the two maybe it was because we were
- 5:01Speaker 3: so much closer, you feel, to the field. You could
- 5:04Speaker 3: hear the reactions after plays. But I thought they were
- 5:07Speaker 3: getting after a pretty good Yeah. You see the guys
- 5:08Speaker 3: are actually pretty big too when you're that close.
- 5:10Speaker 2: To the mark.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Yes, oh yeah, turns out sneaky NFL players, sneaky big.
- 5:14Speaker 1: NFL players, sneaky big do so colon breaking news here.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Gate back is starting to ramp up a little bit,
- 5:21Speaker 1: you know. One I think one one on one rep.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Yes, a little bit of team I think he tried
- 5:25Speaker 4: to sneak into the drill every two seconds and Mike
- 5:28Speaker 4: Smith had to keep pulling him back and pulling him back.
- 5:31Speaker 4: He went up against Laurence Mets, who's probably not going
- 5:33Speaker 4: to be on the team if we're being honest. But
- 5:35Speaker 4: he did beat him in the one on one, and
- 5:37Speaker 4: he had a handful of team reps as well in
- 5:41Speaker 4: eleven on eleven's and we saw him go right around
- 5:44Speaker 4: Marcus Bryant to blow up a run play at one
- 5:47Speaker 4: point in practice. So he looks like he's in great shape.
- 5:50Speaker 4: It doesn't look like he was sitting on the couch
- 5:52Speaker 4: waiting to get the contract done. He looks like a
- 5:56Speaker 4: freaking Adonis out there. I mean, if he plays as
- 5:58Speaker 4: well as he looked, then we're going to be in
- 6:00Speaker 4: good shape. So I think that's the biggest takeaway so
- 6:03Speaker 4: far is that he looks like he's ready to go.
- 6:05Speaker 4: He looks eager, he looks like he's in shape, and
- 6:08Speaker 4: now he just got to see how he progresses.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Get to those Colts joint practices next Tuesday. Baby.
- 6:12Speaker 3: By that time, before me, I think today he was
- 6:15Speaker 3: he was pretty much in there. I mean, like, like
- 6:17Speaker 3: Kevin said, he took some team reps, and what if
- 6:19Speaker 3: you're taking team reps.
- 6:20Speaker 2: You're sort of ready to go. Yeah. A couple so
- 6:22Speaker 2: a couple of housekeeping things.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Terrell Jennings number twenty six came off of NiFi and
- 6:26Speaker 1: was pret pretty much a full participate, I mean jumped
- 6:27Speaker 1: in there.
- 6:28Speaker 2: He was too.
- 6:28Speaker 1: He was running through the line. No Kid and Wallace,
- 6:31Speaker 1: Kyle Williams. We didn't see him initially. Later in practice
- 6:33Speaker 1: he showed up. He looked kind of wet. He was
- 6:35Speaker 1: all in full pads. I wonder if maybe he was
- 6:36Speaker 1: doing some rehab or something outside. I don't know, but
- 6:39Speaker 1: didn't really get into any of the team drills in
- 6:42Speaker 1: new number.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Ninety six as well. Casey Rogers.
- 6:45Speaker 1: So starting to see Paul some of that, you know,
- 6:47Speaker 1: bottom of the depth chart, No Kaid and Wallace, you
- 6:49Speaker 1: know what. We don't know what's going on there, but
- 6:51Speaker 1: it seems like they're rotating guys a little bit. You're
- 6:52Speaker 1: starting to see some movement.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Yeah, and I don't know what the situation is with Wallace,
- 6:56Speaker 3: but you know, the defensive lineman, you know, someone you
- 6:59Speaker 3: know sort.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Of working with the threes gets banged up.
- 7:01Speaker 3: They don't really have time for you to miss a
- 7:03Speaker 3: practice or sure, they got to bring someone in to
- 7:05Speaker 3: make sure that those reps get replaced.
- 7:07Speaker 2: So yeah, it's it's part of the balance.
- 7:09Speaker 3: But good to see both Actus and Terrell Jennings back,
- 7:12Speaker 3: and you know, maybe we'll see Harold Landry before too long.
- 7:15Speaker 3: I don't know how much longer. I mean, Mike Vrabel
- 7:17Speaker 3: did talk late last week and said that he was
- 7:20Speaker 3: going to be longer than those guys. So we'll see
- 7:22Speaker 3: if that's something that impacts the regular season. It's still
- 7:24Speaker 3: no Carlon Davis Evan.
- 7:25Speaker 1: I felt like, I think we all have noticed, you know,
- 7:28Speaker 1: some of these younger cornerbacks getting some opportunities here k
- 7:31Speaker 1: Roon PUNTI was in the midst of a couple of
- 7:33Speaker 1: different things today. Thought, you know, he was a good
- 7:35Speaker 1: pass breakup on AJ Brown. Then he had one with
- 7:38Speaker 1: I think it was not sure one.
- 7:39Speaker 3: Of the low you know, just like he was going
- 7:42Speaker 3: to just muscled them.
- 7:44Speaker 2: It took the ball away come up. That was definitely
- 7:49Speaker 2: a catch.
- 7:49Speaker 4: I'm going to pick it's the battle of possession, but
- 7:53Speaker 4: I feel like he had the ball and then they
- 7:55Speaker 4: were on the ground and after he already had possession
- 7:58Speaker 4: of the ball.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Dejannio, Well, are you a fighting about that? So I'll
- 8:02Speaker 3: go with Channon Crowder as the Chada Canada. I keep
- 8:05Speaker 3: calling him Crowder because he already wrote Crowder in his
- 8:09Speaker 3: update and he kept telling me about it. I thought
- 8:12Speaker 3: he was sort of the secondary member of the secondary
- 8:16Speaker 3: who really showed up. I thought he got some more
- 8:18Speaker 3: reps today with twos that I hadn't really seen. It's
- 8:21Speaker 3: been Prunty and Minor and those guys. I thought twenty
- 8:24Speaker 3: nine in Blue showed up today, and then again when
- 8:27Speaker 3: they're doing the kickoff returns, he was doing some of
- 8:29Speaker 3: those reps too.
- 8:30Speaker 4: Yeah, it seems like he's got some versatility, maybe a
- 8:33Speaker 4: player that could play inside. Prunty just impresses me though,
- 8:36Speaker 4: because of his size, speed length, he can carry a
- 8:40Speaker 4: go route. I mean that's for sure, like he did
- 8:42Speaker 4: it twice today. So I don't know if he's going
- 8:44Speaker 4: to be able to cover the whole route tree just yet.
- 8:46Speaker 4: But if you put a guy out there like that
- 8:49Speaker 4: that's at least not going to get burned deep, then
- 8:51Speaker 4: you feel pretty good about helping him out on the
- 8:53Speaker 4: other stuff. So with his length, with his speed, I
- 8:56Speaker 4: think he's got that ability to carry vertical routes down
- 8:58Speaker 4: the field. And when you play on the outside, that's
- 9:01Speaker 4: the majority of what you're going to see. So very
- 9:04Speaker 4: early leader, I think out of that group as like
- 9:06Speaker 4: the fifth cornerback that they might carry. I think Charles
- 9:09Speaker 4: Woods is on this team as the fourth guy, and
- 9:11Speaker 4: I'd say Prunty is making a push right now.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Yeah, Charles Woods getting a lot of reps still. Carlon
- 9:15Speaker 1: Davis continues to be out. That's offering opportunities to some
- 9:18Speaker 1: of these guys.
- 9:18Speaker 2: So we'll see.
- 9:19Speaker 1: We're in the dog days of camp now. That's been
- 9:21Speaker 1: four padded practices in five days. To replay on that
- 9:24Speaker 1: proNT We'll try to get the go to the tape
- 9:26Speaker 1: before next breakdown, but they'll be back in pads again tomorrow.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Tuesday is supposed to be a beautiful day if you're
- 9:31Speaker 1: able to come on down here to the Jet Stadium.
- 9:34Speaker 2: It's a great take
