- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. Sunday special.
- 0:10Speaker 1: We ain't got a name yet.
- 0:11Speaker 2: I'm going to just keep throwing shit out here until
- 0:13Speaker 2: we do.
- 0:13Speaker 1: My name is Bobani Jones.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Thanks for listening wherever you get your podcasts.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Thanks for watching us on YouTube.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Subscribe, like, rate us, review us, give us five stars.
- 0:20Speaker 2: If you only give us four stars, I'm inclined.
- 0:23Speaker 1: To believe you are a hater.
- 0:25Speaker 2: And, you know, like, my guy Ryan, it's a very
- 0:31Speaker 2: interesting year to have Ryan.
- 0:33Speaker 1: In this seat that he is in, right?
- 0:34Speaker 2: Because first of all, when Ryan started doing the job
- 0:37Speaker 2: and we got to the NFL and then at one
- 0:39Speaker 2: moment it dawned on me because Ryan is from Lafayette,
- 0:42Speaker 2: I was like, wait a minute.
- 0:44Speaker 1: You root for the Saints, don't you?
- 0:47Speaker 2: And he said yes, which, you know, I don't know
- 0:50Speaker 2: how it would have worked if I knew that before.
- 0:52Speaker 1: But, you know, now that you're here.
- 0:54Speaker 3: No one's perfect.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 0:55Speaker 1: We're just going to have some experiences.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Now, LSU is interesting because I generally enjoy LSU and
- 1:01Speaker 2: find them to be entertaining. I love the Les Miles years.
- 1:04Speaker 2: That barely seemed like it was real. But then... LSU
- 1:08Speaker 2: hired someone who exhibits the characteristics of a loathsome jackass
- 1:13Speaker 2: whom I have discussed as though he is a loathsome
- 1:16Speaker 2: jackass for over a decade. And now, by the way,
- 1:21Speaker 2: Ryan discussed him like he was a loathsome jackass and
- 1:25Speaker 2: then started coaching his team. What?
- 1:27Speaker 3: What are you talking about? I cannot confirm or deny.
- 1:30Speaker 1: No idea, right? But like, now we're here.
- 1:33Speaker 3: He is currently, regardless, he is currently... Milo some jackass.
- 1:37Speaker 1: There he is. There he is.
- 1:38Speaker 2: He is the coach of your team for this first
- 1:41Speaker 2: month of the season. He is the bright kind of
- 1:45Speaker 2: star of the show in terms of what there's been
- 1:47Speaker 2: to talk about in college football.
- 1:50Speaker 1: And that changed on Saturday night.
- 1:54Speaker 2: The star of college football is no longer Lane Kiffin.
- 1:58Speaker 2: It is now Heisman Trophy front runner, though I acknowledge
- 2:03Speaker 2: it's early, Trinidad Jambas. I don't think there's any question
- 2:06Speaker 2: about this. This is how the sausage is made in
- 2:09Speaker 2: this day and time, right? National television game, the biggest
- 2:14Speaker 2: game so far of this season. And I'm not sure
- 2:19Speaker 2: if there will be a bigger game that has a
- 2:21Speaker 2: bit more of an anticipation around it. There may be
- 2:24Speaker 2: games that do a higher television number. but I'm not
- 2:27Speaker 2: sure if there's going to be a game that has
- 2:29Speaker 2: a higher, like fervent, a fever pitch that we've got
- 2:33Speaker 2: developed going in until Ohio state, Indiana on October.
- 2:39Speaker 1: The 8th, 17th.
- 2:40Speaker 3: I think it is something like that.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Mid-October. Yeah.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Yeah. But I think, I think up until then, this
- 2:45Speaker 2: is the one and unlike Ohio state, Indiana, nobody was
- 2:49Speaker 2: talking about that game all off season.
- 2:52Speaker 1: This one got.
- 2:53Speaker 2: The treatment of, all the way up until now, and
- 2:57Speaker 2: then it was augmented by the fact that LSU played Clemson,
- 3:01Speaker 2: and that was kind of the primetime game for week one,
- 3:04Speaker 2: not to be confused with week zero, but for week one.
- 3:07Speaker 2: And so it just all built to this game that
- 3:12Speaker 2: I am not enough of a historian to say if
- 3:16Speaker 2: it's the biggest game in Ole Miss history, but I
- 3:19Speaker 2: would definitely say it is the Ole Miss game with
- 3:22Speaker 2: the highest national profile Ever.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Okay?
- 3:28Speaker 2: Ole Miss won this game 24-32. Hot take time. And
- 3:35Speaker 2: I really, I don't even know if it's so much
- 3:36Speaker 2: a hot take, but after the game, in the post game,
- 3:42Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin, in classic Lane Kiffin fashion, discussed the environment
- 3:48Speaker 2: at the stadium. And for those of you who don't know,
- 3:51Speaker 2: Ole Miss has a famous tailgating scene.
- 3:53Speaker 1: And somewhat ironically, has a.
- 3:57Speaker 2: HBCU tendency of people enjoying the party outside more than
- 4:02Speaker 2: they would the game inside. Therefore, they stay at the
- 4:05Speaker 2: party outside. Ole Miss be looking like the goddamn CIAA.
- 4:10Speaker 2: When ESPN tried to broadcast the CIAA on TV, it
- 4:14Speaker 2: was so embarrassing because all those people were there, but
- 4:17Speaker 2: none of them was at the games.
- 4:18Speaker 1: It looked like practice.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Nobody was in the seats and they kept having to explain, well,
- 4:24Speaker 2: you know, the blacks are outside barbecuing and drinking Crown Royal.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Ole Miss, ironically, very similar situation.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Probably sitting outside and also drinking Crown Royal.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Yes, yes.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Now, Lane said after the game that he had quite
- 4:42Speaker 2: the environment. Said the seats were full an hour before
- 4:46Speaker 2: the game. He said he guessed it. This is what
- 4:49Speaker 2: it would take for them to do that. And he
- 4:52Speaker 2: said that, Ryan, I believe he said, you're welcome.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Yes.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Because this is something that Lane had complained a lot about,
- 5:00Speaker 2: was them doing that.
- 5:02Speaker 1: And then Lane said that, and he said, you're welcome.
- 5:05Speaker 1: And you know what?
- 5:08Speaker 2: He might, not saying he is, he might be a
- 5:12Speaker 2: loathsome jackass, but he's right. And not only is he right,
- 5:19Speaker 2: That game made it very clear that he is the
- 5:22Speaker 2: best thing to ever happen to that football team, the
- 5:25Speaker 2: best thing to ever happen to that program, quite possibly
- 5:29Speaker 2: the best thing to ever happen to that university. That
- 5:33Speaker 2: argument is there clearly, and it makes it even more
- 5:36Speaker 2: ridiculous that he left in the fashion in which he left.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Okay, hear me out here.
- 5:45Speaker 2: When I did the Vanity Fair piece on Chambliss, Which,
- 5:50Speaker 2: one day, one might argue, is the beginning of a
- 5:53Speaker 2: Heisman campaign.
- 5:55Speaker 3: One can make the argument.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I'm just saying.
- 5:58Speaker 4: Every now and then, you know, it's not every day
- 6:01Speaker 4: that one of America's.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Foremost sports writers comes to Oxford, Mississippi.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Actually, it is every day that one of America's foremost
- 6:08Speaker 2: sports writers goes to Oxford, Mississippi, because Wright Thompson is
- 6:11Speaker 2: right down there.
- 6:11Speaker 3: He's right there.
- 6:13Speaker 2: But it's not every day that one this handsome shows
- 6:16Speaker 2: up and Gets the ball.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Rolling on this, right?
- 6:19Speaker 3: I still have your Vanity Fairs, by the way.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Oh, but it's funny. They sent me some, too. You
- 6:24Speaker 1: know what we could do, though? We could do some
- 6:26Speaker 1: sort of giveaway, maybe, or some way where we could
- 6:28Speaker 1: sign those.
- 6:28Speaker 2: That you got a couple of them and get them
- 6:30Speaker 2: to the people that might want to get some of them, right?
- 6:33Speaker 1: Just letting you guys know. We got some Vanity Fairs
- 6:35Speaker 1: over here.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Anyway, when I did that piece, the thing that was
- 6:42Speaker 2: interesting and very clear to me Every Chambliss that I
- 6:46Speaker 2: talked to, and I talked to a lot of Chambly,
- 6:50Speaker 2: every Chambliss that I talked to had a positive opinion
- 6:54Speaker 2: of Lane Kiffin.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Every single one of them did. And I mean, why
- 6:58Speaker 1: wouldn't they?
- 6:59Speaker 2: Their son was playing Division II football, and next thing
- 7:02Speaker 2: they knew, their son was making millions of dollars and
- 7:05Speaker 2: poised for an NFL career that literally none of them
- 7:08Speaker 2: had pictured prior to this.
- 7:12Speaker 1: They are all in on Lane. in that way.
- 7:16Speaker 2: The most interesting thing that I learned in the reporting
- 7:18Speaker 2: of that, and I've talked about this, Tom Mars, who
- 7:23Speaker 2: represented Trinidad in his lawsuit against the NCAA, and I
- 7:27Speaker 2: believe is also just generally Lane Kiffin's lawyer. I asked
- 7:32Speaker 2: Tom Mars, because he told me that Kiffin referred Chambliss
- 7:37Speaker 2: to him for his case. Now, keep in mind, they
- 7:41Speaker 2: knew this was going to come up, the eligibility questions
- 7:44Speaker 2: around Chambliss. I don't think they thought the NCAA would
- 7:48Speaker 2: rubber stamp it, but at the same time, this was
- 7:50Speaker 2: always on the board, right? It was December 19th was
- 7:55Speaker 2: the date that Mars told me that Kiffin brought Chambliss
- 7:59Speaker 2: this way, which is to say after this LSU decision
- 8:02Speaker 2: had been made, okay? One could cynically make the argument
- 8:07Speaker 2: that Lane did that just in case Chambliss wanted to
- 8:10Speaker 2: come with him, right? But it doesn't really matter, I
- 8:13Speaker 2: don't think. He didn't have to do it. And he
- 8:17Speaker 2: did it. And that is a big part of LSU,
- 8:21Speaker 2: excuse me, Ole Miss, being in the position that they
- 8:24Speaker 2: are in right now. The program had its longest period
- 8:29Speaker 2: of sustained success with Kiffin there. Like if nothing else,
- 8:35Speaker 2: he changed the profile and the ambitions of the program.
- 8:44Speaker 2: What seemed possible. All of that changed with Kiffin being there.
- 8:50Speaker 2: And the part that he just brought up, and he's right.
- 8:53Speaker 2: They never got that charged up if it wasn't for
- 8:56Speaker 2: him behaving like a loathsome jackass on the way out
- 9:00Speaker 2: and getting everybody all excited about this.
- 9:03Speaker 1: So now they have got.
- 9:05Speaker 2: A solid football program that looks like it has the
- 9:08Speaker 2: potential to perhaps.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Win the sec.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Definitely on the board it's on the board well what's
- 9:17Speaker 2: on the board because of the way it goes now
- 9:19Speaker 2: you get yourself a good enough regular season record and
- 9:22Speaker 2: you get to the championship game because not everybody's playing
- 9:24Speaker 2: the same schedule you know get yourself there and then
- 9:28Speaker 2: you just got to win one and you've got that
- 9:30Speaker 2: guy right because the other part of this and my
- 9:33Speaker 2: fault i forgot about this before having one of america's
- 9:38Speaker 2: great Sports writers profiled a young man. He had the
- 9:42Speaker 2: incredible college football playoff the year before, right? So this
- 9:47Speaker 2: all builds up. We have evidence that he's this dude.
- 9:52Speaker 2: It's right there directly in front of us. They can
- 9:55Speaker 2: pull this off. And this doesn't really happen without Lane Kiffin.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Hey, man.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Two of the best quarterbacks in the sec were on
- 10:03Speaker 2: old mrs roster last year austin simmons has looked good
- 10:07Speaker 2: for missouri so far that was supposed to be the
- 10:08Speaker 2: starter right last year.
- 10:12Speaker 1: That's that's lane right you have to give them the credit.
- 10:21Speaker 2: This is what I found interesting in watching this game.
- 10:27Speaker 2: And Ryan, you tell me if I'm wrong here. I
- 10:30Speaker 2: felt like LSU was beating Ole Miss in the way
- 10:35Speaker 2: that LSU should beat Ole Miss, which is being a
- 10:39Speaker 2: bit bigger and a bit stronger and pounding them on
- 10:43Speaker 2: the ground. I felt like when LSU decided to run
- 10:47Speaker 2: the ball, it looked like what all things kind of
- 10:51Speaker 2: held equal, LSU versus Mississippi should look like. Right.
- 10:56Speaker 3: A little bigger, a little stronger, but they also, Ole
- 11:00Speaker 3: Miss outgained them in the air by over 200 yards.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Well, yeah, yeah, see, that's where this is going to get.
- 11:05Speaker 2: This is where the lane of it all gets interesting, right?
- 11:09Speaker 2: The reason or the argument for going to LSU over
- 11:15Speaker 2: Ole Miss is the ability to more readily put together
- 11:18Speaker 2: a big, strong football team that wins championships. Right.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Like those those that next tier of schools.
- 11:25Speaker 2: And for purposes of this discussion, I'm putting Oregon on
- 11:27Speaker 2: that level.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Right.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Which is Oregon is not a traditional power. Oregon's always
- 11:32Speaker 2: had to gimmick it up just a little bit. And
- 11:34Speaker 2: they're trying to do it the SEC way. That's why
- 11:36Speaker 2: you hire Lanning. But we've seen how that can go
- 11:39Speaker 2: for them.
- 11:40Speaker 4: Right.
- 11:40Speaker 2: But those schools that are not up there like that
- 11:43Speaker 2: typically got to do some razzle dazzle in order to
- 11:46Speaker 2: make it happen. LSU was like, or we could just
- 11:49Speaker 2: line it up and go. And on the other side,
- 11:52Speaker 2: we could rush four and drop seven because we should
- 11:54Speaker 2: be able to give players that good who are able
- 11:57Speaker 2: to do that. And LSU, when they ran the ball, demonstrated, oh,
- 12:02Speaker 2: this is why you would leave Ole Miss to go
- 12:06Speaker 2: to LSU. But the reason why you wouldn't do that
- 12:11Speaker 2: is because Ole Miss had Trinidad Chambliss And you had
- 12:16Speaker 2: Sam Leavitt.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Yes.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Now, I am asking you this, because to me, Leavitt
- 12:22Speaker 1: looked not good.
- 12:24Speaker 3: He is not good.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Okay.
- 12:27Speaker 2: And Lane did that weird shit during the week where
- 12:30Speaker 2: they said he was doubtful, then he was questionable, then
- 12:32Speaker 2: he wasn't even on the injury report. So for all
- 12:35Speaker 2: I know, he out there with a.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Toe cut off. I have no idea, right? Or he
- 12:41Speaker 1: might have an extra toe. Who knows? We're laying out here.
- 12:45Speaker 2: However, he had a team that was good enough to
- 12:47Speaker 2: win a national championship last year, or at the very
- 12:50Speaker 2: least good enough to play for a national championship last year.
- 12:54Speaker 1: And a team that had that level of quarterback.
- 12:59Speaker 2: And he left that for a team where he knew
- 13:03Speaker 2: he was going to.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Have a worse quarterback.
- 13:06Speaker 2: You have a Heisman caliber quarterback and everything that you
- 13:10Speaker 2: built around him with Kiwan Lacey, with all those things.
- 13:15Speaker 2: And forget the middle of the year part. You walked
- 13:18Speaker 2: away from that for LSU.
- 13:21Speaker 1: So here's what you did.
- 13:22Speaker 2: You walked away from a chance to win a championship
- 13:26Speaker 2: because you thought the other place could give you a
- 13:29Speaker 2: better chance to win a championship, even though the place
- 13:32Speaker 2: you were at gave you a better chance to win
- 13:35Speaker 2: a championship right now.
- 13:37Speaker 1: You see what I'm saying?
- 13:38Speaker 2: Like, you were the best thing to happen at that school,
- 13:41Speaker 2: and you might be so good a thing to happen
- 13:43Speaker 2: at that school that Pete Golding, a man that no
- 13:46Speaker 2: other school would have hired for that same job, could
- 13:49Speaker 2: have a chance to play for the SEC, which you
- 13:52Speaker 2: did not do, or play for a national championship in
- 13:56Speaker 2: large part because of you. But you went somewhere else
- 14:04Speaker 2: where being you right now might not be good enough.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Do I have this right?
- 14:11Speaker 3: I think you're making a great point.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Yeah, like this is, it's so bizarre on that level.
- 14:18Speaker 2: And by the way, again, all of this having to
- 14:21Speaker 2: do with Lane Kiffin even involves some benevolence from that
- 14:26Speaker 2: potentially loathsome jerk.
- 14:29Speaker 1: What an only in.
- 14:30Speaker 2: College football kind of night that you wound up with.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Also want to say this right fast because we talked
- 14:36Speaker 2: about when they did the broadcast in Texas and they
- 14:38Speaker 2: did the eyes of Texas thing that I hate it
- 14:40Speaker 2: and everything else. But it does seem that ESPN is
- 14:45Speaker 2: leaning in.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Heavy on the pageantry before these games.
- 14:51Speaker 2: And I don't need the national anthem, though.
- 14:55Speaker 1: I am curious.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Do they only allow black men with bellies to get
- 15:02Speaker 2: in sailor suits and sing the national anthem? Because I
- 15:05Speaker 2: feel like every time I see a black man singing
- 15:07Speaker 2: the national anthem, it's always a brother with a little
- 15:10Speaker 2: pudge in a sailor suit. I'll never see no white
- 15:13Speaker 2: man in a sailor suit singing the national anthem.
- 15:16Speaker 1: I don't know why. And look, I want to be
- 15:17Speaker 1: very clear.
- 15:20Speaker 4: It's always adorable. It doesn't matter what age you are.
- 15:27Speaker 4: You'll be 55 years old. They put you in a
- 15:29Speaker 4: sailor suit. It looks exactly the same as it did
- 15:32Speaker 4: when you were 24 months in that sailor suit.
- 15:36Speaker 3: Saying that the village people are adorable too? Yeah, well,
- 15:39Speaker 3: let me ask.
- 15:40Speaker 1: You a serious question. When the Navy take their boats and.
- 15:44Speaker 4: They pull it up on another country ready for action, do.
- 15:48Speaker 1: They be wearing sailor suits?
- 15:51Speaker 4: Because that may be our greatest weapon ever. You pull
- 15:54Speaker 4: up on me on a sailor suit, I'll never think
- 15:56Speaker 4: it's a war. I mean, look at those cutie patooties
- 15:59Speaker 4: getting off that boat.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Hey, is that a gun? What just happened?
- 16:06Speaker 3: I don't have a great concept of naval warfare, but
- 16:09Speaker 3: I imagine since we are not in a canon pirate
- 16:12Speaker 3: ship era that they cannot... Other ships cannot see the
- 16:15Speaker 3: sailor suits.
- 16:16Speaker 4: But I'm just saying, even back in the day, was
- 16:19Speaker 4: they pulling up on people in sailor suits and hitting
- 16:21Speaker 4: them with harpoons?
- 16:23Speaker 1: I just don't. I just wouldn't be afraid. Maybe that's
- 16:28Speaker 1: the art of deception. I don't know.
- 16:30Speaker 2: But anyway, they have brother in the sand. They build
- 16:35Speaker 2: up the big game of it all now. Because you
- 16:37Speaker 2: and I, we both agree. Nobody shoot a game better
- 16:40Speaker 2: than CBS. And the thing to me about the way
- 16:42Speaker 2: CBS does the game is they don't even have to
- 16:44Speaker 2: do that to manufacture all the rest of the stuff.
- 16:47Speaker 2: And I'm not saying that it's a judgment of ESPN.
- 16:49Speaker 1: I'm saying that game felt like a really big deal.
- 16:51Speaker 1: And I think the NBA.
- 16:53Speaker 2: with their mistakes have really informed for a lot of people,
- 16:57Speaker 2: the importance of like building the stakes up for that game.
- 17:02Speaker 1: And they were there and thank you're right.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Lane, you're welcome. Couldn't have done it without you. And
- 17:08Speaker 2: the best part about it is not that LSU loss.

- 18:38Speaker 2: $ 5 lineup. Prize picks run your game. Speaking of losing,
- 18:48Speaker 2: for those of you who might be new here, I
- 18:50Speaker 2: have to remember these things, Ryan, because it's been 13
- 18:52Speaker 2: years now, but I lived in North Carolina for 10 years.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I've been gone for 13 years. That is crazy.
- 19:00Speaker 2: But I don't get the feeling that nationally people have
- 19:05Speaker 2: a great handle on what it means to root for
- 19:08Speaker 2: North Carolina State. And I don't blame you if you don't.
- 19:14Speaker 2: And maybe the Internet made the world smaller and you
- 19:16Speaker 2: can see like some of the things. But they got
- 19:19Speaker 2: this thing that they call up there and it's called
- 19:25Speaker 2: NC State shit.
- 19:27Speaker 1: And I mean, that's that's literally what it's called, like TM,
- 19:31Speaker 1: you know.
- 19:33Speaker 2: And no matter what goes down, NC State, this NC State,
- 19:36Speaker 2: that man, that's some NC State shit happened.
- 19:40Speaker 3: You know, and.
- 19:42Speaker 2: The thing that I find interesting about that is as
- 19:44Speaker 2: I was going back, I didn't have, and I think that, it.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Goes across sports, too.
- 19:50Speaker 2: But I didn't have that many like particular individual like
- 19:54Speaker 2: plays that jumped out. Like when you talk about the
- 19:58Speaker 2: misery of Cleveland sports, there were plays.
- 20:01Speaker 3: There are moments right now, right?
- 20:02Speaker 1: Or is the drive? It's the fumble. It's, you know,
- 20:05Speaker 1: they got all kinds of names.
- 20:07Speaker 2: The shot.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, exactly. Like, they had those things.
- 20:10Speaker 2: I didn't, and I could just not be remembering, but, like,
- 20:13Speaker 2: NC State, it doesn't jump to the top of my mind. Like, oh, man,
- 20:16Speaker 2: it was always this one thing. But, baby, they got
- 20:19Speaker 2: a thing to last forever. Now, this is also the
- 20:24Speaker 2: season where they got to have football coach Dave.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Doran, who is perfectly fine.
- 20:29Speaker 2: And the thing is, and I don't blame state fans
- 20:31Speaker 2: for this, because if you're not a fan, people are like,
- 20:33Speaker 2: why aren't you happy with personally perfectly fine when sorry
- 20:37Speaker 2: is right around the corner and always feasible for you guys?
- 20:41Speaker 2: And it's because they don't like perfectly fine. They would
- 20:43Speaker 2: like to be better than that. And you may think
- 20:45Speaker 2: that they have no business believing that they should be,
- 20:47Speaker 2: but they want to be. And I think that's perfect. Like,
- 20:51Speaker 2: you should want more than perfectly fine. And they've had
- 20:54Speaker 2: perfectly fine for, I think, over a decade.
- 20:56Speaker 1: No, they don't.
- 20:57Speaker 2: They don't want that anymore. And it's coming into this
- 20:59Speaker 2: year with a desire for a little bit more. Now,
- 21:03Speaker 2: understand this. Perfectly fine gets you this, Ryan. They have
- 21:06Speaker 2: not won a road game against a power conference team
- 21:09Speaker 2: in 24 years. The quarterback was Phillip Rivers. And he
- 21:15Speaker 2: wasn't even a senior.
- 21:16Speaker 3: That's wild. Yes.
- 21:19Speaker 2: I think Philip Rivers, I think he only had one
- 21:21Speaker 2: kid then. But I do think he had one.
- 21:25Speaker 3: Yeah, like you said, it was a long time ago.
- 21:27Speaker 1: It's been a long time. It's been a long time.
- 21:28Speaker 1: At the very least, he was on his way.
- 21:30Speaker 2: So anyway, they played against Vanderbilt, which counts as a
- 21:34Speaker 2: power conference team better than they've ever been, whatever.
- 21:37Speaker 1: They're up 31-28.
- 21:38Speaker 2: What is it, like 10 seconds left in the game?
- 21:41Speaker 3: Six seconds left.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Six seconds left.
- 21:42Speaker 2: They've got the ball in the shadow of their own goalposts.
- 21:46Speaker 2: And they were going to do one of those things
- 21:49Speaker 2: that I find is interesting, which is sometimes you spend
- 21:52Speaker 2: your whole life not really giving a lot of thought
- 21:54Speaker 2: as to why something is called what it's called.
- 21:56Speaker 1: But what they were going to do was take a safety.
- 22:00Speaker 1: And you know what? It's like, oh, that's why they
- 22:02Speaker 1: call it a safety.
- 22:03Speaker 2: They were basically going to surrender on 16 and blackjack.
- 22:07Speaker 2: We are up by three points.
- 22:11Speaker 1: So we will get the ball.
- 22:13Speaker 2: And we will down it in the end zone and
- 22:15Speaker 2: give them two points and then have a free kick.
- 22:17Speaker 2: And then there will not be enough time for them
- 22:19Speaker 2: to get the ball back. Now, what is very clear
- 22:22Speaker 2: is that in the huddle, their quarterback was told that
- 22:25Speaker 2: you're going to get the ball and you're going to
- 22:26Speaker 2: run around until there's no time.
- 22:28Speaker 1: And then you go down and then voila, the game's over.
- 22:34Speaker 2: I don't understand why you would need that last part
- 22:38Speaker 2: because there were only six seconds.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Here's what an option was. Snap it into the fourth row.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Or punt. And if it gets blocked, you know what
- 22:49Speaker 3: the worst thing that can happen is?
- 22:51Speaker 1: Well, they can recover it in the end zone.
- 22:54Speaker 3: But more than likely, it goes out of the back
- 22:56Speaker 3: of the end zone and it's a safety.
- 22:58Speaker 1: I hear you.
- 22:58Speaker 2: But the problem with what you just said right there
- 23:00Speaker 2: is you have forgotten the whole premise of why we're
- 23:02Speaker 2: here in the first place, which is NC State shit. OK,
- 23:06Speaker 2: so if you're NC State, there's no way you can
- 23:09Speaker 2: punt this. In fact, what you're saying is affirming the
- 23:11Speaker 2: madness of it all.
- 23:13Speaker 4: Right.
- 23:13Speaker 2: You needed to diminish the possibilities of this NC State
- 23:17Speaker 2: shit happening. Now, what they thought was if you run
- 23:20Speaker 2: the clock out, that is what is diminishing the possibility
- 23:23Speaker 2: of the NC State shit monster.
- 23:24Speaker 1: For rising up. No, no, no.
- 23:27Speaker 2: What you had to do was put your knee down yourself.
- 23:31Speaker 2: How that young man allowed himself to be tackled, I
- 23:35Speaker 2: have no idea, but he did allow himself to be tackled,
- 23:38Speaker 2: and he fumbled.
- 23:40Speaker 1: And Vanderbilt recovered.
- 23:42Speaker 2: And won a game that they had not had the
- 23:45Speaker 2: lead in all game. And then, hold up, Ryan. This
- 23:49Speaker 2: is where it gets even more interesting.
- 23:56Speaker 1: The score was 31-28.
- 23:59Speaker 2: But they had to replay it at the end, and
- 24:02Speaker 2: they found that they had to put one more second
- 24:07Speaker 2: on the clock, which allowed enough time for an extra point,
- 24:14Speaker 2: which allowed Vanderbilt to cover.
- 24:17Speaker 3: Yes.
- 24:19Speaker 1: So if you rooted for NC State and you bet.
- 24:22Speaker 2: On NC State, you... It's one thing to get kicked
- 24:29Speaker 2: in the nuts. It's another thing to get kicked in
- 24:34Speaker 2: each nut individually with the force of a two-nut kick.
- 24:42Speaker 2: You understand what I'm saying? They really was like, yo,
- 24:46Speaker 2: this hurts really bad, but at least it was just
- 24:49Speaker 2: one nut. And then they got him on the El Segundo.
- 24:58Speaker 2: And all I'm saying to all you NC State fans
- 25:04Speaker 2: is you don't have to keep doing this. I'm just saying,
- 25:08Speaker 2: and if you choose to, that's fine. You're not a,
- 25:12Speaker 2: generally speaking, you're not a sympathetic bunch. I have warmed
- 25:15Speaker 2: to understanding your perspective in this world, but you guys
- 25:18Speaker 2: are not. You're only people that like you as each other.
- 25:25Speaker 2: And you know this already, right? Like I'm just, I'm just,
- 25:27Speaker 2: I'm not, I'm just telling you, right?
- 25:29Speaker 1: It's not.
- 25:31Speaker 2: All I'm saying is you're doing this to yourself. And
- 25:34Speaker 2: if you would like to stop doing this, you can.
- 25:40Speaker 2: And this is a great opportunity for you.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Help me help you. That's what we're doing right now.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Because that's rough, man. That's rough. That's rough.
- 25:53Speaker 2: I know y'all mad at the coach. And I can
- 25:55Speaker 2: see why you would be. But damn, man, I bet
- 25:58Speaker 2: he mad at everybody, too. Like, that's the thing right there.
- 26:01Speaker 2: You want to talk about some shit that look like
- 26:02Speaker 2: a 20 man Spider-Man meme.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Talk about everybody pointing at everybody blaming each other. It's
- 26:07Speaker 1: just it's just going all over the place. It's a
- 26:10Speaker 1: it's a tough go. But, but, but. I don't know,
- 26:17Speaker 1: I was going to say it could have been worse.
- 26:19Speaker 2: I don't.
- 26:20Speaker 3: I don't think so.
- 26:21Speaker 1: I don't, I don't know that actually.
- 26:23Speaker 3: For sure.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Yeah. Now that I think about it, perhaps I should
- 26:26Speaker 2: have done this show in a slightly different order that
- 26:28Speaker 2: would have allowed for, they could have been worse, but
- 26:30Speaker 2: it actually could have been more hilarious.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Actually. No, I actually do think that what we're going
- 26:35Speaker 1: to talk about is worse.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Okay. So I looked on Twitter right fast on Saturday
- 26:41Speaker 2: and I went past some, and it was a tweet
- 26:43Speaker 2: from Kyle field, Texas, you know, and I, I couldn't
- 26:50Speaker 2: tell exactly what it said, but it had some white
- 26:52Speaker 2: man in a golf shirt.
- 26:54Speaker 1: And then I saw the handle was at SEC war.
- 27:00Speaker 2: And because I wasn't paying close attention, I thought SEC
- 27:05Speaker 2: war was like a SEC blog.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Right. Or something like that.
- 27:10Speaker 3: Right.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Or maybe an Auburn blog.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 27:13Speaker 1: War Eagle. I just wasn't paying that much attention. I
- 27:16Speaker 1: just want to be clear about this.
- 27:19Speaker 2: Before we came on to record this, I actually saw
- 27:21Speaker 2: what that tweet was, and it was a video of
- 27:26Speaker 2: the Secretary of Defense, because I don't say that, Pete Hedgeset.
- 27:31Speaker 1: And he was pumping his fist and shit, right?
- 27:37Speaker 2: Let me make sure I get this score right, because
- 27:39Speaker 2: Kentucky came to Texas A & M, which is a
- 27:41Speaker 2: top 10 team, and Kentucky beat them by 10 points
- 27:44Speaker 2: on their own soil. Marcel Reed had an awful game.
- 27:52Speaker 2: they wrecked them. I don't think there's any other way
- 27:54Speaker 2: to put this. They put the hurt on them in
- 27:57Speaker 2: this stadium that, on one hand, is a very difficult
- 28:00Speaker 2: place to play, but on the other hand, you get
- 28:02Speaker 2: to play.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Against the Aggies.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Having that man out there was the most Aggie thing
- 28:07Speaker 2: in the world. Like, if Ted Cruz wasn't such bad luck,
- 28:13Speaker 2: they would have had him out there, but Texas won
- 28:16Speaker 2: in spite of him. That's how you know Texas might
- 28:18Speaker 2: be the best team in the country. They overcame Ted Cruz.
- 28:20Speaker 2: But anyway, having Pete Hedgeseth out there, super Aggie. Losing
- 28:29Speaker 2: this game, also super Aggie.
- 28:32Speaker 1: And you know why? You don't get to eight and
- 28:35Speaker 1: a half wins by winning them all.
- 28:39Speaker 2: You got to give back some of those that aren't
- 28:43Speaker 2: supposed to go that way.
- 28:45Speaker 1: There they go, right there, all the way. Go on
- 28:50Speaker 1: to that thing.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Look, it's a weird week, man, where we got Ole
- 28:54Speaker 2: Miss out here beating LSU and looking like one of
- 28:56Speaker 2: the best teams in the country.
- 28:58Speaker 1: You understand what I'm saying?
- 28:59Speaker 2: But those other two things, that's just to let you know,
- 29:01Speaker 2: ain't nothing really changed. Right? Like, the fundamental order of
- 29:05Speaker 2: the universe remains. Like, it's still there.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Apparently, these teams need to go get them Elaine Kiffin.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Maybe that'll change your situation.
- 29:16Speaker 1: But I.
- 29:23Speaker 1: And look, I know it's a little different in Aggie
- 29:24Speaker 1: world right now.
- 29:26Speaker 2: I just don't know who it was that looked at
- 29:28Speaker 2: Pete Hedseth and was like, hell yeah. That'll get the
- 29:33Speaker 2: people going. Can you read polls?
- 29:37Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Like, these are not popular people.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Are you aware of what he's in charge of and
- 29:43Speaker 3: what people think about it?
- 29:45Speaker 1: This is the last time you bought a gallon of gas.
- 29:48Speaker 3: Because I'm telling you, it's been a.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Long time since I did it.
- 29:51Speaker 2: But I looked at the numbers on one of those
- 29:52Speaker 2: pumps one day, and I didn't think that was in dollars.
- 29:57Speaker 3: It's going to be like, remember when we were talking
- 29:59Speaker 3: about the scoreboard at the ACC tournament in Tampa? Yes.
- 30:01Speaker 3: That's what gas is going to be like. They're going
- 30:04Speaker 3: to have to add a fourth digit.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Right. Right.
- 30:07Speaker 4: It's going to be going to have a Y2K problem.
- 30:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:10Speaker 1: With the gas pumps.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:14Speaker 1: But hey, ladies and gentlemen, guess what? Thanks for joining
- 30:17Speaker 1: us here on the right time. Sunday special. We do this. Sundays, right?
- 30:24Speaker 1: Probably headed things behind the scenes. Thank you, sir.
- 30:26Speaker 2: Hit the voicemail line. 3, 2, 3, 5, 9, 6, 7, 7, 6, 7. Remember,
- 30:29Speaker 2: follow the right time. Subscribe, like, rate us, review us.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Give us five stars. You only give us four stars.
- 30:35Speaker 2: I'm inclined to believe you are a hater. We'll talk
- 30:37Speaker 2: to you guys in a couple of days.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Take it easy.
