- 0:00Speaker 1: The force will be with you always.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Welcome to the NED party.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Hi, this is Nick and Ostas, you story editor on
- 0:09Speaker 1: Star Wars, the Clone Wars and Star Wars bad Batch,
- 0:14Speaker 1: and you are listening to Aggressive Negotiations.
- 0:25Speaker 3: That's right, You've joined Aggressive Negotiations the Star Wars podcast,
- 0:29Speaker 3: trolling out along the forbidden passages of the Unknown Regions
- 0:34Speaker 3: and coming back with pure gold Press let Oh wait,
- 0:38Speaker 3: gold Press Latin. That's wrong franchise anyway, I'm a Jedi
- 0:41Speaker 3: Master John Mills, here to troll these unknown regions with
- 0:46Speaker 3: you and joining us, all of us, joining me. Joining
- 0:50Speaker 3: us is Jedi Master Matthew Rushing. Matt what are your
- 0:55Speaker 3: tips for keeping the mind occupied on the long stretches
- 1:00Speaker 3: in the unknown regions?
- 1:02Speaker 4: Oh? You know, hollows of slice noodles in the band?
- 1:07Speaker 4: You know, just that on repeat? That's really what it is.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Well, goodness knows. Lapty Neck is a great workout song,
- 1:14Speaker 3: and that's why we're so fit as we journey across
- 1:16Speaker 3: the stars.
- 1:17Speaker 4: It's the Star Wars jazzer size, my friend.
- 1:20Speaker 3: It truly is it truly is now. Jedi Rocks is
- 1:23Speaker 3: always good when you want to go out for a
- 1:26Speaker 3: quick jog. But nothing's going to beat lapty neck. And
- 1:28Speaker 3: what else can't be beat is if you go over
- 1:30Speaker 3: to Apple Podcasts and drop as a star, rating and review,
- 1:34Speaker 3: we love it. We'd appreciate it. It would mean the
- 1:36Speaker 3: world to us because we do this for the love
- 1:38Speaker 3: of the game. So we very much appreciate if you
- 1:42Speaker 3: love what we're doing. So, Matt, another one of those
- 1:45Speaker 3: silly topics that enters my brain. While I happen to
- 1:47Speaker 3: see a gift of Count Dooku. While I'm looking up
- 1:52Speaker 3: for Dooku gifts to respond to somebody with which as
- 1:55Speaker 3: a Star Wars fan, we are wont to do, and
- 1:58Speaker 3: I came across one of him captive from the Clone
- 2:02Speaker 3: War series with those glowy handcuffs that Obi Wan we
- 2:06Speaker 3: saw on attack in Attack of the Clones when he
- 2:09Speaker 3: was help captive that energy field. So I was saying
- 2:12Speaker 3: about it, and I was just like, how do these
- 2:15Speaker 3: things work? We all know the forces and all living things.
- 2:19Speaker 3: We know that the force this, the force that, But
- 2:23Speaker 3: if the force is about focus in mind, how do
- 2:26Speaker 3: these glowy cuffs work to keep a Jedi or a
- 2:29Speaker 3: Sith or other Force user neutralized.
- 2:34Speaker 4: That's a great question. And in the spanded universe, we
- 2:39Speaker 4: had the Ocilia Murray or whatever they're called, right, and
- 2:44Speaker 4: you know, they created a force bubble in the Dungeons
- 2:48Speaker 4: and Dragons movie. Just rewatched that with Chris Pine.
- 2:51Speaker 3: They're all honor among these surprisingly delightful movie.
- 2:55Speaker 4: It really is very, very good. But one of the
- 2:59Speaker 4: things that really interesting about that movie is they can
- 3:03Speaker 4: put these cuffs on you that can hamper magical ability,
- 3:08Speaker 4: which seems akin to this idea of hampering force ability.
- 3:13Speaker 4: And so the question then becomes what type of force
- 3:20Speaker 4: blocks the force in the Star Wars galaxy and and
- 3:25Speaker 4: like you said, the force being in all living things.
- 3:31Speaker 4: That is a great question as to why, like you know,
- 3:34Speaker 4: obi Wan being floating there right, what in the world
- 3:38Speaker 4: causes this bubble of him not being able to, you know,
- 3:43Speaker 4: get himself out.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd never thought about that, but now that you
- 3:49Speaker 2: bring it up, I'm like, that is a really good question.
- 3:54Speaker 2: See an attack of the Clones, I can almost say
- 3:57Speaker 2: obi Wan knows there's nowhere to go. Oh, like, his
- 4:01Speaker 2: ship's been destroyed. He's underground at a droid making facility,
- 4:05Speaker 2: surrounded by Trade Federation ships everywhere in Techno Union Army
- 4:10Speaker 2: and all of this stuff where it's like he could
- 4:12Speaker 2: have like I could easily see it as like, okay,
- 4:14Speaker 2: they have it. It's making it more difficult for him,
- 4:16Speaker 2: but it's not neutralizing him because he's like, where am
- 4:18Speaker 2: I gonna go?
- 4:19Speaker 3: Right, I'm just gonna I gotta hang here. But then, yeah,
- 4:23Speaker 3: as you're going through, I want to pitch this idea
- 4:25Speaker 3: to you because I'm not naturally inclined to go the
- 4:29Speaker 3: East Salamiri type route where it's like there's anti force
- 4:33Speaker 3: that's put out there. It doesn't feel right to me. Right,
- 4:39Speaker 3: what if it's more a thing of it delivers some
- 4:45Speaker 3: sort of low level pain, not torture pain, but some
- 4:49Speaker 3: sort of low level pain that prevents the force user
- 4:52Speaker 3: from concentrating. So if they go try to go into
- 4:56Speaker 3: a trance, it's one of those things where they just
- 4:58Speaker 3: can't focus. It's like irregular little pin pricks that go
- 5:03Speaker 3: through their systems, so they can't keep their mind on
- 5:07Speaker 3: the task at hand.
- 5:09Speaker 4: See, I think that you're onto something there. The idea
- 5:13Speaker 4: that that field helps disrupt the flow of the force
- 5:20Speaker 4: through them in that way makes complete sense, you know,
- 5:27Speaker 4: the the because I do agree with you the idea
- 5:33Speaker 4: that anything kind of mechanical could block the force, or
- 5:39Speaker 4: even that there would be something physical like a like
- 5:44Speaker 4: some kind of being. Now. The interesting part about this though,
- 5:48Speaker 4: and this kind of ties into our previous episode that
- 5:51Speaker 4: we're talking about all the crazy stuff with the other
- 5:54Speaker 4: universe and the way in which death Mary Magic works.
- 5:58Speaker 4: It does kind of make me think that the idea
- 6:00Speaker 4: of this silly Mary isn't all that off though, when
- 6:05Speaker 4: I think about the fact that we've got a whole
- 6:08Speaker 4: other galaxy, we've got Sith you know, I'm sorry, we've
- 6:13Speaker 4: got death Miry magic that is somewhat tied to the
- 6:16Speaker 4: Force and yet different at the same time. You know,
- 6:21Speaker 4: it almost makes you wonder even if those type of
- 6:24Speaker 4: binders involve something along those lines, because death Mary Magic
- 6:32Speaker 4: does have the ability to interact with force users in
- 6:36Speaker 4: kind of an interesting way, and so it's probably not
- 6:41Speaker 4: the case. But yeah, but I mean, lots of those
- 6:45Speaker 4: lines would make sense to me, right.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Well, let's explore it like it would It would have
- 6:49Speaker 3: to be something where it's like it's so prohibitively expensive
- 6:52Speaker 3: to make, like it's a difficult sort of thing to
- 6:56Speaker 3: get a hold of, so like, you know, you're average
- 7:00Speaker 3: person on thirteen thirteen doesn't have access to these sorts
- 7:03Speaker 3: of things, but it's an interesting possibility that there would
- 7:09Speaker 3: be some sort of alloy or energy that would you know,
- 7:15Speaker 3: every force has an equal and opposite force sort of
- 7:18Speaker 3: thing where it's like you're able to build something that
- 7:23Speaker 3: has some sort of reactant that notices a build up
- 7:26Speaker 3: of energy, you know, because you're when you focus the force,
- 7:30Speaker 3: you're focusing energy and it picks up on that and
- 7:35Speaker 3: it creates like a counter energy or something. I'm still
- 7:38Speaker 3: not necessarily in love with that idea. I sort of
- 7:42Speaker 3: hold on to that first one that I have, but
- 7:47Speaker 3: it is something where I think what it gets me
- 7:51Speaker 3: back to is like I'm always glad that Star Wars
- 7:53Speaker 3: is not Star Trek because Star Trek would have invented
- 7:56Speaker 3: a bunch of technobabble to explain it. Yeah, where it
- 7:59Speaker 3: would have been like, oh, well, the anti forcetrons in
- 8:02Speaker 3: the reverse polarity stabilizer cuffs. I'm like, eh, Instead, it's like,
- 8:07Speaker 3: you know, we're gonna give it a blue glow and
- 8:09Speaker 3: then your brain is gonna sit there and say like, uh, yeah,
- 8:12Speaker 3: it just works on force users differently, Like Okay, I
- 8:16Speaker 3: could see that. I mean, I can even see slapping
- 8:18Speaker 3: those things on people who weren't force users, just in case,
- 8:23Speaker 3: but that would get back to the prohibit prohibitively expensive
- 8:27Speaker 3: aspect of it, where it's like you can't just use
- 8:30Speaker 3: these cuffs on everybody because they're just too difficult to
- 8:33Speaker 3: manufacture or something like that. You know, sort of like
- 8:36Speaker 3: you know, because you have Malls Mandalorian holding Bin from
- 8:41Speaker 3: the Phantom Apprentice where it's like they that neutralized them,
- 8:46Speaker 3: and it's like, you know, it's one of those things
- 8:48Speaker 3: where it's like, was it a specific type of metal alloy?
- 8:51Speaker 3: Is it possible that there's something about bestcar that like
- 8:55Speaker 3: screws with them or something like that. The only thing
- 8:58Speaker 3: that I give credence for the SALAMII and other stuff
- 9:01Speaker 3: is like the force is supposed to be a part
- 9:04Speaker 3: of nature, and that means that nature is balanced, and
- 9:07Speaker 3: so there will always be something that can counterbalance the
- 9:10Speaker 3: ability to use the force. So I don't know, maybe
- 9:13Speaker 3: maybe those sorts of things can get me there. I
- 9:15Speaker 3: don't know.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Well, there's there's always the idea, right of I mean,
- 9:21Speaker 4: you think of the Superman idea and you can't see
- 9:26Speaker 4: through lead, Yeah, you know, so something about the composition
- 9:31Speaker 4: of lead does not allow his X ray vision to
- 9:36Speaker 4: pierce it. And the idea of you know, him being
- 9:42Speaker 4: allergic to radioactive bits of his home planet, right, And
- 9:48Speaker 4: so I think that you are onto something when when
- 9:52Speaker 4: you bring up the idea that you know, everything in
- 9:55Speaker 4: nature does have something to which there is a a
- 10:00Speaker 4: counterbalance to it. You know, you even think of lightsabers
- 10:04Speaker 4: can cut through anything, but bestcar.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Or whatever the hell of the electric field is on
- 10:09Speaker 3: the Magna Guards staffs.
- 10:12Speaker 4: Exactly right, you know. And so there are ways to
- 10:18Speaker 4: counter act the benefits of a Jedi, and yet they
- 10:24Speaker 4: do seem to be either cost prohibitive or few and
- 10:27Speaker 4: far between. And you know, I think you also get
- 10:32Speaker 4: to the the idea that many people just really haven't
- 10:36Speaker 4: run into enough Jedi to have enough experience to know
- 10:40Speaker 4: what works, you know, something like the Mandalorians. It seems
- 10:43Speaker 4: as though, you know, in in the distant past, in
- 10:47Speaker 4: the Star Wars universe, there was enough of a conflict
- 10:51Speaker 4: between the two for the Mandalorians to specifically research and
- 10:57Speaker 4: figure out how to counterbalance Jedi. Yeah, but by the
- 11:03Speaker 4: time we get to the prequel era, there has been
- 11:08Speaker 4: very little challenge to the Jedi, and their numbers mean
- 11:11Speaker 4: that those in the galaxy they may or may not
- 11:16Speaker 4: ever see a Jedi at all ever, and feel more
- 11:20Speaker 4: as though they're fairy tales or maybe even myths on
- 11:24Speaker 4: their world, because there might not really be a need
- 11:27Speaker 4: for Jedi to ever visit their world in the first place.
- 11:29Speaker 4: And so, you know where these type of technologies come,
- 11:34Speaker 4: it does make sense that they are kind of just
- 11:36Speaker 4: few and far between.
- 11:37Speaker 3: You know, I've got a thought here, and maybe this
- 11:41Speaker 3: supports something about the energy field or advancement of technology,
- 11:45Speaker 3: who knows. But in Return of the Jedi, I mean, obviously, look,
- 11:49Speaker 3: I'm not dumb. I know when they're filming Return of
- 11:52Speaker 3: the Jedi back in the eighties, adding a blue glow
- 11:55Speaker 3: to Luke's binders when he goes up to see the
- 11:57Speaker 3: Emperor is a very different thing than oh, I have
- 12:00Speaker 3: a computer that can do that. Like, I'm not being
- 12:04Speaker 3: I'm not diminishing any current effects person who's using computers.
- 12:09Speaker 3: I'm just saying, you know that it's a completely different thing.
- 12:13Speaker 3: So obviously they're not going to put the blue glow
- 12:15Speaker 3: on them. So I have a multifaceted couple of questions
- 12:18Speaker 3: here for you all right, so bear with me. One
- 12:22Speaker 3: do you think that if he took another pass at
- 12:24Speaker 3: another special edition of all of the movies, Lucas would
- 12:28Speaker 3: add the blue glow to Lucas to Lukes binders? Two?
- 12:33Speaker 3: Do you think that Lukes Binder's not having a blue
- 12:36Speaker 3: glow is a headcanon moment where we can say, well,
- 12:40Speaker 3: they figured out a way to do it without the
- 12:41Speaker 3: blue glow showing? And three do you think that if
- 12:46Speaker 3: there had been that blue glow it would prevent another
- 12:50Speaker 3: force user from undoing the binder on Luke? And therefore
- 12:56Speaker 3: it could be more impressive for the Emperor to disengage it,
- 13:01Speaker 3: because he's so powerful that there is no limit on him.
- 13:04Speaker 3: So those are my that's my three questions in a
- 13:06Speaker 3: row having to do with Luke's binders.
- 13:09Speaker 4: Well, my first answer is, George, more special editions. You know.
- 13:14Speaker 3: It would happen. You know full well it would happen.
- 13:17Speaker 3: And I'm not one who drags the special editions. We
- 13:20Speaker 3: had our conversation about the special editions of just saying
- 13:23Speaker 3: I'm surprised it didn't occur somewhere along.
- 13:25Speaker 4: The way, But I would say that I don't believe
- 13:28Speaker 4: that his his binders that he's wearing are actually special
- 13:33Speaker 4: in any way. I believe they're just normal binders. And
- 13:36Speaker 4: the reason that Luke, you know, where's he going to go?
- 13:41Speaker 4: This is the point, this is the plan, uh, was
- 13:43Speaker 4: was him because these binders look exactly, I feel similar
- 13:47Speaker 4: to the binders that we see in with.
- 13:50Speaker 3: Probably the same problem.
- 13:52Speaker 4: So probably the same problem. So therefore, uh, you know,
- 13:56Speaker 4: I I don't think that there's really a need for
- 13:59Speaker 4: a special edition on that front, because this was never
- 14:05Speaker 4: about the binders. It was always just about the fact
- 14:09Speaker 4: that the Emperor knew Luke needed to be there, and
- 14:12Speaker 4: Luke knew Luke needed to be there, and Vader knew
- 14:15Speaker 4: Luke needed to be there. So everybody knows Luke needs
- 14:17Speaker 4: to be there because they all know the reason he's
- 14:19Speaker 4: really there. Uh. And so this is really just sub
- 14:24Speaker 4: refuge in that sense of like everybody's playing their part
- 14:27Speaker 4: in this big force. Uh. And So, now, if they
- 14:33Speaker 4: were these type of energy binders, would that mean that
- 14:36Speaker 4: Palpatine could undo them or would they actually need to
- 14:40Speaker 4: be undone by some sort of like special key or something.
- 14:43Speaker 4: That's a good question.
- 14:47Speaker 3: I'm going to say. I'm going to say no, Actually,
- 14:49Speaker 3: I just realized. Episode three gives us the answer to
- 14:51Speaker 3: that question. So it's a pointless exercise.
- 14:55Speaker 4: Well, he's also there on purpose, No, I.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Know, but Palpatine is sitting there with the blue glow
- 15:00Speaker 3: blind boy boy, I tripped upon that one with the
- 15:04Speaker 3: binders have the blue glow in episode three when Dooku
- 15:10Speaker 3: Slash Grievous has him captive, and uh, they release the
- 15:19Speaker 3: binders from him with a wave of the hand. Anakin does,
- 15:27Speaker 3: and so therefore.
- 15:28Speaker 4: There you go.
- 15:29Speaker 3: No, the blue glow does not prevent another force user
- 15:33Speaker 3: from hitting them. And wow, could we retroactively say that
- 15:38Speaker 3: was a tell right there that Palpatine was a force user.
- 15:43Speaker 3: He was laying a hint out there to see if
- 15:45Speaker 3: somebody noticed that they used force binders on him.
- 15:50Speaker 4: I see, I like this. That's uh, that's really.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Good waiting to see if Anakin's smart enough to pick
- 15:55Speaker 3: up on it.
- 15:58Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, and it also, like you said too earlier,
- 16:03Speaker 4: what if this was just one of those places where
- 16:06Speaker 4: you know this was the highest security measure you could give,
- 16:11Speaker 4: so you knew it would hold a Jedi, and so
- 16:15Speaker 4: therefore you put Palpatine there because you don't want him
- 16:19Speaker 4: escaping anyway. Sure, right, and so yeah, so that that
- 16:23Speaker 4: could be a part of the reasoning behind that as well,
- 16:26Speaker 4: But no, I mean, you're right, you know, absolutely, Jedi
- 16:30Speaker 4: do have the ability, it seems to affect those binders
- 16:35Speaker 4: outside of themselves, but they can't do it while in
- 16:39Speaker 4: the binders. And so I love I think it really
- 16:41Speaker 4: does come back to and I think the idea that
- 16:46Speaker 4: the binders create a disruption in the maybe the neurochemical
- 16:53Speaker 4: makeup of a Jedi with pain and maybe something else
- 16:58Speaker 4: might be the best answer to this question and make
- 17:01Speaker 4: the most sense because you aren't able to focus, because
- 17:07Speaker 4: your focus determines your reality, right, that's what we hear
- 17:10Speaker 4: from Qui gon Jin. And it does take focus for
- 17:14Speaker 4: Jedi to be able to use telekinesis.
- 17:18Speaker 3: You know.
- 17:18Speaker 4: We see that even in the Tackle the Clones as
- 17:21Speaker 4: an example, right, the massive column falls and Obi Wan
- 17:26Speaker 4: and Anakin would die if Yoda didn't turn his full
- 17:29Speaker 4: attention to making sure that this massive thing doesn't land
- 17:34Speaker 4: on them, and it allows Dooku to escape. And so
- 17:37Speaker 4: I think that is our to me, that's the answer.
- 17:41Speaker 4: In the end, we come full circle and that's where
- 17:44Speaker 4: it makes most sense.
- 17:45Speaker 3: So it took us more than four hundred episodes. But
- 17:47Speaker 3: we did, I think finally answer definitively the blue Glow Binders,
- 17:54Speaker 3: their role, what they do, how they function. Once again,
- 17:58Speaker 3: another successful journey here on Aggressive Negotiations where we have
- 18:04Speaker 3: answered the deep burning questions and Matt, the other deep
- 18:09Speaker 3: burning question that so many people have is how can
- 18:11Speaker 3: they reach you online to talk about the tongue twister
- 18:16Speaker 3: of saying blue glow Binders ten times fast.
- 18:20Speaker 4: Yes, well, I would love to see the videos of
- 18:23Speaker 4: people trying to do that. You can hit me up
- 18:25Speaker 4: on social media under the name Matt Rushing Joe two.
- 18:27Speaker 4: Here on the network, you'll find me doing owl posts
- 18:30Speaker 4: show about every single chapter the Harry Potter series, one
- 18:33Speaker 4: chapter at time. You'll also be able to find me
- 18:36Speaker 4: over on the TFM network doing a bunch of shows.
- 18:38Speaker 4: One is called the six ozho two Club, where we're
- 18:41Speaker 4: talking about all of the franchises we love. Outside of
- 18:44Speaker 4: the Star Trek fandom, you can also find me doing
- 18:48Speaker 4: a bunch of Star Trek Talk with my good friend
- 18:50Speaker 4: Chris Jones, talking about a lot of the different Star
- 18:53Speaker 4: Trek shows as we've hit their anniversaries or like Saddle
- 18:56Speaker 4: Up or card So check all of those out. But John,
- 19:00Speaker 4: if people are just wanting to find a way to
- 19:03Speaker 4: lock you into some blue glow binders, where can people
- 19:07Speaker 4: find it?
- 19:07Speaker 3: You're having trouble saying it too. This is amazing that
- 19:11Speaker 3: we have now created a canonical name that will make
- 19:14Speaker 3: it impossible for people to put us in these restraints
- 19:17Speaker 3: because it's so difficult to say blue glow binders.
- 19:21Speaker 4: Wow, So why don't we just call them the bbbs oh.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Bgb bgb BG Oh my god, which explains why when
- 19:30Speaker 3: the Beg's play the Beach, I'm completely incapacitated. It causes
- 19:34Speaker 3: my brain to shut down. The Beg's are now canonically
- 19:40Speaker 3: Jedi inhibitor music. Actually, so we should go back and
- 19:44Speaker 3: have a special edition where Jive talking is playing when
- 19:48Speaker 3: Dooku goes in to talk to Obi Wan in Attack
- 19:52Speaker 3: of the Clones. Book it somebody put that together. I'm
- 19:55Speaker 3: far too lazy to do that and put it on YouTube,
- 19:57Speaker 3: but I know somebody out there can do it. I
- 20:00Speaker 3: know somebody out there can do it. Find me as
- 20:02Speaker 3: Castle junkie out there in the wild space of the Internet.
- 20:05Speaker 3: Find me here on the network, co hosting a show
- 20:07Speaker 3: called house Lights with Tristan Riddell and Darren Moser, where
- 20:12Speaker 3: we look at the work of directors and have a
- 20:14Speaker 3: lot of fun doing so. But Matt I found out
- 20:18Speaker 3: actually that they install the lock on my quarters using
- 20:22Speaker 3: the blue Globe device. So I'm going to need your
- 20:24Speaker 3: help to release it back at the Temple. So I
- 20:27Speaker 3: think it's time to close these negotiations, John, negotiations are courts.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Join the Revolution, Join the Nerd Party.
