- 0:00Welcome to the Why Not Today podcast where we celebrate courage, termination, and the
- 0:07power of saying why not today.
- 0:09On your host, Leslie Cain, in each episode we dive into inspiring stories of individuals
- 0:14who have taken bold steps, faced their fears, and embraced the possibilities of today.
- 0:19From entrepreneurs to artists, dreamers to doers, we explore the moments when they set
- 0:23enough waiting why not today.
- 0:26Bring me as we uncover the heartwarming, the audacious, and the transformative.
- 0:30Whether it's pursuing a lifelong passion, overcoming obstacles, or simply choosing joy.
- 0:34Our guests share their journeys and inspire us all.
- 0:36I started this podcast in honor of my father, Patrick Cain, who often said why not today.
- 0:41Remember, you're just one decision away from changing your life.
- 0:45And I've got another repeat guest on to the podcast today, Laura Moro.
- 0:49And Laura and I met years ago through our Mary Kaye business and journey, and then reconnected
- 0:57recently.
- 0:58She's got a new business.
- 0:59I've got a new business.
- 1:01And Laura was on, gosh, sometime this year.
- 1:05This summer.
- 1:06Yeah.
- 1:07Yeah.
- 1:08Talking about your journey and how you created a business.
- 1:10And part of my mission is educating, giving women tools, or people, and especially women
- 1:16tools, and the subject of menopause and perimenopause is coming up a lot.
- 1:21And I do host a monthly lunch called why not today KX.
- 1:25And so Laura's going to be our guest speaker in January.
- 1:27And we thought this might be a good opportunity to share on the podcast a little bit more
- 1:31about what she's going to talk about because everybody can't come to lunch.
- 1:35So we're going to give a deeper dive.
- 1:37We're going to hear and then off also at the luncheon and just give some help, some
- 1:43tidbits, some tips, some directions, some resources.
- 1:48So Laura, if you want to introduce yourself, just a little who Laura is, and then not your
- 1:54whole career, but just who Laura is.
- 1:56And then we will get on to courage and menopause and perimenopause.
- 2:01Yeah.
- 2:02Laura Moro, Viana, Virginia, married with two kids.
- 2:09And all my health issues started after I started having kids.
- 2:16And so that's why I switched my career from Mary Kay, like I used to do with Leslie to
- 2:23focusing on women's health.
- 2:27And I absolutely love doing that and helping other women, especially when they feel like
- 2:32there is nothing else that they can do or no one else is helping them.
- 2:37That's when I come in.
- 2:38Yeah.
- 2:39And we're going to talk about that in a minute too.
- 2:41But before we go into all that, what does courage mean to you?
- 2:44See if it's different than it was the last episode.
- 2:47You know what?
- 2:48I don't even go back and listen to what I said, but courage to me is feeling the fear
- 2:55and doing it anyway, just pushing through and just going for the things that you really
- 3:04want in life.
- 3:05Right.
- 3:06And our definitions change and it can change daily.
- 3:11And depending on what our day looks like.
- 3:13And yeah, sometimes in that today moment, why not today messages are just getting up
- 3:18in the morning sometimes.
- 3:19It's just making those fears.
- 3:21So you have health issues after having your second child.
- 3:27And if you want a deeper dive into that, you can listen to the previous episode.
- 3:31And maybe I can take that in the show notes too.
- 3:33Yeah.
- 3:34I don't remember the number, but so you went from just to kind of summarize went from super
- 3:42unhealthy like couldn't get out of bed.
- 3:44Yeah.
- 3:45Yeah.
- 3:46Like I'm out.
- 3:47It was diet and what you're eating.
- 3:49And so why don't you share a little about that and then how you can support women and
- 3:53let's start digging into menopause and paramount pause.
- 3:56Yeah.
- 3:57Yeah.
- 3:58Absolutely.
- 3:59Yes, I got to the point where I was having trouble like walking like zero energy headaches
- 4:07every day.
- 4:08Couldn't lose the baby way to one day.
- 4:11I literally couldn't get out of bed because I had so much pain and I had tingling in my
- 4:17arms and legs, which is what really scared me.
- 4:22And yeah, if you listen to the other episode, you'll hear that I completely changed my diet.
- 4:28A lot of lifestyle factors and within a matter of weeks felt so much better.
- 4:35The pain started going away, more energy headaches went away and started losing the way.
- 4:41It was amazing.
- 4:42What kind of diet did you have to go to?
- 4:46Anti-inflammatory.
- 4:47Okay.
- 4:48Anti-inflammatory diet.
- 4:49So that is a focus on and this is very relevant for hormone issues too.
- 4:56Taking my diet to focus on like whole foods, real foods, getting rid of all the process
- 5:02things, but it was further than that.
- 5:05It was also for me, gluten was a big issue.
- 5:13I also got rid of dairy, sugar and for me, nightshades like peppers is still one of my
- 5:22biggest things.
- 5:23I added a lot of things back in again and really figured out my personal diet, which
- 5:28is what I help my clients with.
- 5:30I don't believe in a one size fits all for everyone, which is, and I'll get into this,
- 5:37which is why I do testing and really figure out what's right for each person.
- 5:42And so that is, but really focusing on eating real food is, it will go a long way.
- 5:49So how do you know if you're having issues and what, like we all hear anti-inflammatory
- 5:55and inflammation, how do you know if you have it?
- 5:58Or you know, I'm 60, have those aches and pains and soreness here, but how do you know
- 6:06if it's an issue and how do you, yeah, how do you know?
- 6:10And I've heard people once they stop or they change their diet, they're like, oh, I had
- 6:14no idea that I was feeling this wasn't normal.
- 6:18Yes, that's the thing.
- 6:20We think that, oh, well, we're just getting older.
- 6:23So we're supposed to have these aches and pains, right?
- 6:27But really that shouldn't be until you're much older, like your 70s and 80s.
- 6:33If you're feeling those things when you're younger, you probably have inflammation and
- 6:37inflammation is just when your body, your immune system has gone into overdrive.
- 6:43And that can be because you never got over an illness like long COVID is inflammation
- 6:50or it can be because of stress, it can be because of hormones.
- 6:55So many different factors will cause your immune system to be on overdrive all the time.
- 7:02And what happens is when there's not an actual like virus or bacteria to attack, it starts
- 7:08attacking your own body system.
- 7:11So if you're having aches and pains, like it's attacking your joints.
- 7:14If you're having things like tingling and headaches and a lot of times muscle issues,
- 7:21it's attacking your nervous system or like brain issues.
- 7:26If you're having digestive issues, it's attacking your digestive system.
- 7:30So if you're just having a lot of these issues over time, then that's inflammation.
- 7:38And you can get tests for that, but just the symptoms itself is enough to show that this
- 7:45is going on in your body.
- 7:47And if it keeps going on, that's when it can develop into something like an autoimmune
- 7:52disease.
- 7:53Right.
- 7:54So I know you do testing.
- 7:55Do you test just for inflammation or do you test?
- 7:57I know you test for a lot of other things.
- 7:59Yeah.
- 8:00So my tests are a lot more specific than that.
- 8:04And in all of these tests, when it shows certain numbers, it does show that you have inflammation,
- 8:10but I don't do a test just for inflammation.
- 8:13It's more detailed than that.
- 8:15So the main test that I focus on is a Dutch test, which is testing your hormones.
- 8:22And it tests your reproductive hormones and your stress hormones, which is when you go
- 8:28to the doctor, blood tests aren't going to test your stress hormones.
- 8:34And that is really critical.
- 8:35So most entrepreneurs, women who are like, want to be a why not today person, a lot of
- 8:42them are high achieving, right?
- 8:44And are dealing with a lot of stress, even though they're doing it anyway, that's still
- 8:48stressful.
- 8:49So most women like that are having issues with their cortisol, their stress hormones.
- 8:55I also test your gut and really see what's going on there.
- 9:00It does tell if there's inflammation or not, and also if there's any bacteria, viruses,
- 9:06parasites, things like that, that is causing these digestive issues and also looks at the
- 9:11health of your intestines and your digestive tract.
- 9:15I also do food sensitivity testing, which is really popular because a lot of people are
- 9:21just like, oh, I'll go gluten free.
- 9:24I'll go dairy free.
- 9:25And they might see little changes, but not huge changes and they think, oh, well, it's
- 9:31not diet.
- 9:32That's not going to help me.
- 9:33But when we do the food sensitivity testing, it tests 176 different foods and ingredients,
- 9:39and we can get very exact of what your body needs rather than just a one size fits all
- 9:47that you might Google or hear about on social media.
- 9:50So we're really getting down to what is causing your body issues.
- 9:56And then I also do hair testing where we can test minerals in your body like iron, calcium,
- 10:05magnesium, those kind of things and also heavy metals because those things grow out in your
- 10:11hair.
- 10:12That's what your hair is made out of.
- 10:13So the lab can see what is growing out in your hair and what you have maybe too much
- 10:18of or not enough of, which is a lot of people's problems.
- 10:22Right.
- 10:23I'm curious.
- 10:25So I know I want to do a deeper dive today, talk about para menopause and menopause.
- 10:29And I know it's all news and all over social media and everybody's talking about it.
- 10:34And it's so confusing.
- 10:35So first, what's the difference between para menopause and menopause?
- 10:39Yeah, that's a great question.
- 10:42There is.
- 10:43So menopause, unlike all of the myths and things that you see everywhere, menopause is
- 10:49literally one day of your entire life, one day.
- 10:54Wow.
- 10:55So the, yeah, right?
- 10:56Menopause is the day that when you have gone 12 months without a period, without bleeding,
- 11:09on that anniversary of that 12th month is the day of menopause.
- 11:14So it's your menses has paused.
- 11:17Okay.
- 11:18It's stopped.
- 11:19So that's the one day.
- 11:21So the time before that, when you're experiencing the symptoms before that is called para menopause.
- 11:29So it's before menopause.
- 11:31And the time after that is actually called post menopause.
- 11:35Okay.
- 11:36Okay.
- 11:37So para menopause, the time leading up to that 12 months is where that can last for
- 11:4510 years or more.
- 11:48And so I have clients who are even in their 30s that have started having these symptoms.
- 11:58And it's so funny too, because even if you have gone 11 months and 28 days, if you start
- 12:06your period, that has to start the whole year all over again.
- 12:10Yeah.
- 12:11So that a lot of people that happens a few times, people don't really talk about post
- 12:15menopause.
- 12:16I haven't really heard it, but that probably in the world that a lot of people listening
- 12:21in the pot, a lot of my audience is in that age group.
- 12:26And but they are.
- 12:28And here's the thing you.
- 12:30So a lot of people think like once your cycle stops, then there's nothing else you can do.
- 12:36Like you just deal with it.
- 12:38But that's when we know that your hormones are rock bottom.
- 12:43And so that's when we really need to do things to help you get out of that so that you're
- 12:51honestly not feeling like an old lady all the time, right?
- 12:54Like nobody wants that.
- 12:55We have goals and we have dreams and we have things we want to do.
- 12:58We don't have time to just feel old.
- 13:01And so that's, that's how I can really help.
- 13:03So I can help alleviate the symptoms before and then afterwards help you get back up to
- 13:09balance.
- 13:10So you're feeling a lot better for that.
- 13:12Or did you just do you need to do tests for that?
- 13:14Or do you just, you know, based on your cycle and when it finished, you know, you can start
- 13:18or.
- 13:19Yeah.
- 13:20Yeah.
- 13:21So I do testing.
- 13:22Yeah.
- 13:23So we look at your, your cycle first of all.
- 13:26So we look at that too.
- 13:28But then we can also be a lot more exact than that and see actually where your hormones
- 13:33are.
- 13:34So your, if you've heard of the words like estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and
- 13:41we can see exactly where those things are.
- 13:45And so we can get those things back into the proper balance of each other.
- 13:52So it's not always just bringing everything up when you're in perimenopause.
- 13:56When you're in menopause, it's everything's rock bottom.
- 13:58Okay.
- 13:59So like things, things are just stopping.
- 14:02Because it's not just like your hormones up here and they go in and dive.
- 14:08It's more like a roller coaster.
- 14:09Like some days they're high, some days they're low.
- 14:14Even within the day, it can cycle and change, which is why, you know, you've probably heard
- 14:21the stereotypes of women like feeling crazy and moody and, you know, all these things.
- 14:28That was my reality of my mother.
- 14:31She was like mean during, you know, seemed like, well, and at that point too, and who
- 14:37knows how much of it was really menopause, post menopause.
- 14:40She had six kids.
- 14:41The youngest had a major disability.
- 14:43So, you know, I remember her crying or leaving the house or just like done with us.
- 14:48Sure.
- 14:49There was a lot of factors and everybody just said menopause.
- 14:52Yeah.
- 14:53And that's the thing that and her stress hormones, I'm sure we're out of control with six kids.
- 15:00Right.
- 15:01And there's no business.
- 15:02So, add that.
- 15:03Add it all together.
- 15:06And here's the thing.
- 15:07Like so, for instance, I had a client who was experiencing that a lot of moodiness.
- 15:13Like she and her husband, she was like, I love my husband, but we're like, I feel like I'm
- 15:17snapping at him.
- 15:19I don't want to be that way.
- 15:21And her energy was in the tank.
- 15:23She was gaining weight.
- 15:27Her digestion wasn't great.
- 15:29She went to the doctor and the doctor was like, you have all the symptoms of perimenopause,
- 15:35but with the blood work, we, the blood work isn't showing it.
- 15:39So there's nothing we can do except put you on two antidepressants.
- 15:44And so maybe that'll help your mood.
- 15:46And she was like, listen, there's a place for antidepressants.
- 15:49I've been on them before.
- 15:50I know what that felt like.
- 15:52That's not what this is.
- 15:53I can tell a difference.
- 15:54I know I need something more.
- 15:56So the thing is when you go and get a blood test from the doctor, first of all, it is
- 16:05only what your hormones are doing right that second that you give the blood.
- 16:09When my testing is a urine test and it's over 24 hours, you take several samples and you
- 16:16take it at a particular time during the month so that they know what your hormones are supposed
- 16:21to be at in that part of your cycle.
- 16:24And so they can tell a lot more exactly what your hormones really are instead of just that
- 16:31one point of time.
- 16:32They can get a lot bigger picture.
- 16:36Plus, we looked at her stress hormones too.
- 16:39We were able to tell that from the test.
- 16:42And from that, we were able to get her back in balance from like changing some things
- 16:49with her food, changing her lifestyle, changing like her movement, her stress management,
- 16:55helping her sleep better, and I help her with some vitamins and minerals that she was deficient
- 17:03in.
- 17:04And in just a few months, she was like losing weight.
- 17:08Like everybody likes to see that.
- 17:10But her relationship with her husband was better.
- 17:13She wasn't snapping.
- 17:14She felt better.
- 17:16She had energy to do all the physical because she's a pretty physical active person.
- 17:22She had the energy to do all the things that she wanted to do.
- 17:26And it was life changing.
- 17:28And she was like, I knew there was something more, but my doctors couldn't help me.
- 17:35So that's the kind of thing that the difference makes.
- 17:38The doctors and the tests, I had a physical.
- 17:42And I was like, do I need to fast?
- 17:43They're like, no, we do tests after you leave.
- 17:46You don't need to fast based on the test.
- 17:49And with the insurance I have, I asked like how much are all these tests going to cost?
- 17:54And it took like two days to figure out anybody to give me the answer.
- 17:57And then I reached back to the doctor and I'm like, do I really need all these tests?
- 18:00She's like, no, you probably don't.
- 18:01So they took half of them off.
- 18:04And it showed nothing because I don't think they really tested anything.
- 18:08Yeah.
- 18:09So, but yeah.
- 18:11All right.
- 18:12So, paraminopause, menopause, postmenopause, what are some of the myths?
- 18:16What are some of the things people are talking about that aren't true?
- 18:22Because there's so much of them.
- 18:23And I noticed there's a lot out there.
- 18:25And before we go into those myths, there's a book that people have been quoting and talking
- 18:29about.
- 18:30Have you read it?
- 18:31Something menopause?
- 18:32The new menopause?
- 18:33Yeah.
- 18:34The liable.
- 18:35Dr. Mary Slayer, Haver.
- 18:37Yes.
- 18:38And it is like I actually have the book, I think, right here on my desk.
- 18:46Right here.
- 18:47Yeah.
- 18:48That's the book everybody's talking about.
- 18:53And yeah, she is amazing.
- 18:55And what I love about her is she is bringing a lot of awareness to this issue.
- 19:02And she is really working to make changes in the health industry, which is so amazing.
- 19:07And she's very personable too.
- 19:10So follow her on social media.
- 19:11She's really great.
- 19:12She gets a lot of great tips.
- 19:14And at the same time, it's still general information, right?
- 19:19It's still just a one size fits all.
- 19:23And we are all so unique that what one person needs is very different than what somebody
- 19:33else needs.
- 19:34And so what I do is really help you get down to the root causes of what's going on.
- 19:41Is it your, you know, is it your, that your progesterone is low?
- 19:47Is it that your stress hormones are high?
- 19:51Is it your like inflammation in your gut that's actually causing a lot of these issues?
- 19:57Like I really get down to it and give you very precise.
- 20:00So this is a good place to like, you know, like read and like become aware and really
- 20:05understand what's going on in your body.
- 20:08But if you're really having these issues and especially if you've tried to make changes
- 20:12before and it hasn't really like given you the results that you want, that's when people
- 20:19come to me.
- 20:20So some of the issues and I've heard lots of about these these days and then we'll get
- 20:24to math.
- 20:25It's like, what are the some of the signs or symptoms that people don't necessarily
- 20:29talk about?
- 20:30And my sister had frozen shoulder and went to yes, or physical therapist for a year and
- 20:36all these things.
- 20:37And then found out that it may not be a physical, it was more could been related to menopause.
- 20:43Yeah.
- 20:44What are the symptoms that we're just ignoring or going to a doctor for other things that
- 20:49could be caused by the hormones?
- 20:52Mm hmm.
- 20:53Yeah.
- 20:54And that's one of the, I actually had the frozen shoulder too.
- 20:55I know exactly.
- 20:58So that is one of the big myths is that if I'm not having hot flashes or night sweats,
- 21:05then I must not be dealing with hormonal things because that's that's like some of the big
- 21:09things that everybody hears, right?
- 21:12But there's so many and I'm just going to read some of the and these aren't even all
- 21:16of them.
- 21:17These are just probably the most most popular, but there's like dozens.
- 21:22So one is like overwhelming fatigue, brain fog and difficulty concentrating the weight
- 21:29gain and stubborn belly fat, bloating and digestive issues, trouble sleeping, waking
- 21:35up in the middle of the night, mood swings, anxiety and depression.
- 21:39Of course, the hot flashes and night sweats changes in your breasts, acne and skin issues,
- 21:44hair loss or thinning, loss of sex drive, joint pain, the frozen shoulder, irregular
- 21:50periods and easily emotional.
- 21:54So that's a lot of.
- 21:56And any of the stages from pre menopause to menopause to postmenopause.
- 22:03Mm hmm.
- 22:04Yep.
- 22:05Yep.
- 22:06Exactly.
- 22:07Exactly.
- 22:08And so depending on where your hormones are, like what balance they are kind of depends
- 22:12on which symptoms that you're having.
- 22:15So it's just so much more and so many women are just like, you know, I'm, I'm an honest
- 22:20entrepreneur.
- 22:21I have a bunch of kids.
- 22:23I'm, you know, dealing with this and that and you just excuse it for so long that we
- 22:31just, we just push through, right?
- 22:33Like we're just like, okay, I can deal with it.
- 22:35I can deal with it.
- 22:36And then usually when people come to me, it's when they've hit some sort of rock bottom,
- 22:40you know, some sort of point of like, I can't do this anymore.
- 22:44Well, I was going to say it's interesting.
- 22:48I think this is, I've noticed post COVID that pre COVID everybody, when he asked anybody
- 22:53how they were, they were busy.
- 22:55And I think all the answer I get to that question more often than not, and I kind of tested an
- 23:01event one night is everybody's overwhelmed.
- 23:05And so how much that could be again, the circle we swim in the women over certain age and just,
- 23:13you know, there's so much on our plate, but we're not handling it as well because of the
- 23:19hormone issue and we're not addressing.
- 23:21Yeah.
- 23:22Yeah.
- 23:23And I will tell you, so one of the questions that I asked my clients when, when they're
- 23:27brand new is when was the last time you felt good?
- 23:32And I will tell you a hundred percent of my clients, the date is sometime before COVID.
- 23:39100%.
- 23:40Wow.
- 23:41And here's the scary thing.
- 23:43What is feeling good?
- 23:44Yeah.
- 23:45Well, it's different for everybody, but I just asked that question for you.
- 23:49When was the last time you really felt good?
- 23:51And it's before COVID and COVID this right now was five years ago.
- 23:57Yeah.
- 23:58And so if it's been five years or more since you felt good, you need to like ask for help,
- 24:07right, because it's not just going to magically get better on its own if it's been that long.
- 24:15Does that make sense?
- 24:16Yeah.
- 24:17Yeah.
- 24:18Oh, that's scary.
- 24:19So, all right.
- 24:20So let's go to mess and what do we miss?
- 24:23Yes.
- 24:24Yes.
- 24:25So, yes, that one, there's a lot more, you know, like we just talked about a lot more
- 24:28symptoms than people think.
- 24:32One is, you know, I'm only in my thirties or forties.
- 24:34I'm too young for menopause, right?
- 24:36And we kind of talked about that.
- 24:38Perimenopause can last for years, especially if you've done things like taken hormonal birth
- 24:44control.
- 24:46I have a brand new client who's 28 years old and who is already experiencing a lot of these
- 24:52things.
- 24:53And so we're going to really work down to get down to the root causes of what's happening,
- 24:57but she's taken...
- 24:58Is there any difference if whether you've had kids or not had kids?
- 25:04You've had a kid you've had, how it affects you?
- 25:07I almost wondered.
- 25:08Yes.
- 25:09Yes, that is a good question.
- 25:11Yes.
- 25:12So, every time that you're pregnant, whether you actually had the baby or not, your hormones
- 25:20do change.
- 25:23And that is when a lot of women start experiencing more inflammation is, you know, after a hormone
- 25:32change and autoimmune disease.
- 25:37And so, yes, like pregnancies and every single pregnancy, like I said, whether it came to
- 25:42term or not, changes your hormonal makeup in your body.
- 25:48Right.
- 25:49Yeah.
- 25:50So, that makes a big difference.
- 25:51Yeah.
- 25:52And also, like I said, like some people think, oh, well, I'm too old to worry about that.
- 25:59I went through menopause years ago.
- 26:01This isn't relevant to me.
- 26:02Like I said, then at that point, we know your hormones are rock bottom.
- 26:06We know that there's things we can do to bring those up and help your body feel better.
- 26:12And also, your stress hormones.
- 26:16Everybody has those stress hormones.
- 26:17And so, there's a lot we can do to balance those as well.
- 26:22And another myth is that, you know, my doctor said my labs are fine and there's...
- 26:27So, there's nothing that I can do.
- 26:30But there's so many things that, A, they're...
- 26:34Like you said, they're probably not testing enough things or testing the right things or
- 26:39testing it at the right time of month or the right time of day or all those things.
- 26:44But then also, there's so many more things you can do.
- 26:49It's not just, oh, here's a, you know, hormone pill to balance things.
- 26:55There's a lot more resources and tools in the toolbox to help.
- 26:59And that's what I was going to ask too.
- 27:01So what are some of the things as women over a certain age going through these things?
- 27:06What are some of the things we can do ourselves?
- 27:09I've heard weightlifting is important.
- 27:12We're protein.
- 27:13So what are some of the things that we can do, you know, if we're not going to invest
- 27:18in somebody helping us or do all the tests, some of the things as we're getting older
- 27:22that's got to help us.
- 27:24Yeah.
- 27:25Yeah.
- 27:26I mean, first of all, focusing on food, what you're eating, what goes into your body.
- 27:36I've, you know, like, there are myths that, you know, like eat wherever you want.
- 27:41It doesn't matter.
- 27:42But it does just like a car.
- 27:46If you're not putting gasoline into the car, if you're putting sugar in the gas tank, like
- 27:50it's not, it's not going to run, right?
- 27:53And the same thing with our body.
- 27:55Our food is what gives us energy or doesn't give us energy.
- 28:01And so it's what we're eating.
- 28:04So many people think, you know, when they're talking to somebody in nutrition, it's going
- 28:08to be somebody who tells them all the things that they shouldn't be eating.
- 28:12But a lot of my clients aren't eating enough of the good things that should support their
- 28:18body.
- 28:19So you mentioned protein.
- 28:20A lot of women don't eat enough protein.
- 28:22But also talking to a trainer one time, she was tracking my calories.
- 28:27She's like, you're not eating enough.
- 28:29Yes.
- 28:30And that's what I was going to say.
- 28:32And what I found too is since COVID, a lot of women already didn't eat breakfast.
- 28:38A lot of women are skipping lunch now because with the zoo, when people went into the office,
- 28:45there was that culture of the lunch break in the middle of the day, right?
- 28:49Now that people are working at home, they are just being scheduled for meeting after
- 28:55meeting after meeting all day long.
- 28:58Lunch.
- 28:59I've worked pre-COVID for myself and lunch has always been my struggle.
- 29:03I'll eat breakfast and eat dinner, but lunch.
- 29:06And it's not, I just keep, start working and then I just don't take time.
- 29:10Yeah.
- 29:11Yeah.
- 29:12And that's what I'm seeing from almost everybody who's working on, working at home or doing
- 29:17a lot of Zoom and conference calls if it's in the office or not, because they're just
- 29:21being scheduled and they're not setting the boundary of like, this is my time to eat lunch.
- 29:30And they're looking at it as an afterthought as a, you know, I'll do this if I have time.
- 29:35But if you don't schedule it, you're not going to have time because other people are scheduling
- 29:39you.
- 29:40And here's the thing.
- 29:42Eating is a necessity of life.
- 29:45It's like breathing.
- 29:47If you're not eating, then, you know, and then you wonder why you're like crashing in
- 29:52the afternoon and you're exhausted and you have to drink more coffee or eat sugar to
- 29:58keep going because you haven't given your body the energy, the fuel to keep going.
- 30:06And so adding in lunch or even an afternoon snack is one of the biggest things that I
- 30:13help my clients with to really see why that's so important.
- 30:17You have resources available on your website?
- 30:19Just what are the resources?
- 30:20I do.
- 30:21Yeah.
- 30:22Yeah.
- 30:23If you go to lauramoro.com and you go to my resources section, I have resources on
- 30:30there.
- 30:31And also, it's not on my website, but maybe you can link it to the show notes.
- 30:37The best resource for anybody interested in this is I have a guide called a hormone balancing
- 30:45nutrition guide.
- 30:47And it really talks about the foods to eat to support your body, like what vitamins and
- 30:56minerals that are really good for you.
- 31:01So like eating things with B vitamins, vitamins, B, things like that that are going to be really
- 31:08helpful.
- 31:09And then it also talks about some lifestyle things that you can do to also help because
- 31:15it's not just about food, but things that you can do to help you get more sleep because
- 31:22sleep is the only time our body heals.
- 31:25And so if you're not feeling your best and you're not sleeping, your body doesn't get
- 31:31a chance to ever catch up and feel good, if that makes sense.
- 31:36So you can be doing all the right things during the day, but if you're not sleeping well,
- 31:41then you're not really going to end up feeling better.
- 31:46So that's one of the first things that I help my clients with is to sleep better.
- 31:51And that's even just, first of all, making it a priority, right?
- 31:55I mean, all the things you've talked about are so simple, but we get so busy, we don't
- 32:00do those things.
- 32:01And isn't this a perfect time of the year?
- 32:03We're recording this on January 2nd.
- 32:05It'll come out, but like, let's pay attention to those.
- 32:09So we've already gone past the time I usually try to go.
- 32:13So yeah, lots of good info.
- 32:16So we're going to have you as a guest at the lunch in January, which is Thursday, January
- 32:2223rd in North Virginia, if anybody wants to come and get a deeper dive with Laura.
- 32:28I will link in the show notes, if you send me a link to that guy, would be great.
- 32:35And I'll obviously contact information.
- 32:37Oh my, so this has been mind blowing, so much good information.
- 32:42And I'm going to order that book, I think, and just start there and go to your website.
- 32:45And all the things we need to be more educated, and I think that's the thing.
- 32:50Take some time to do things, to help us instead of amazing how much time we waste, look in
- 32:57other people's life on a phone.
- 32:59Yes, yes.
- 33:00Instead of taking care of our life.
- 33:02Yes.
- 33:03And I do free consultations.
- 33:05So, you know, I can talk to you and tell you like what tests could be helpful for you,
- 33:12you know, some some basic things that you can be doing, you know, does this look like
- 33:17formals or not.
- 33:19So you know, I can just have a chat with you and I hope you sort of figure out the right
- 33:24direction.
- 33:25Even if it's not something that you're ready to get started with right now, I can, I can
- 33:30kind of like guide you in the right direction and share my thoughts and what is probably
- 33:35going on.
- 33:36Maybe what we need to do is schedule one for me before the luncheon and I can share that.
- 33:40Perfect.
- 33:41There you go.
- 33:42So, how would you encourage somebody to say why not today and take care of their own health?
- 33:48I guess is a big question.
- 33:51I think that's the biggest thing is to to make the decision to be committed to your
- 34:00help.
- 34:01I heard this on a podcast one time that the difference between consistency and being committed
- 34:08to your goal is consistently you feel like, oh, if I'm going to be consistent, I have
- 34:13to exercise every day and eat healthy every day.
- 34:15And but the problem is if you hit a roadblock, you like you get sick or you get really busy
- 34:21at work and then you miss a couple of days and you feel like, oh, well, that's it.
- 34:24Just go back to eating, whatever, go back to just sitting on the couch.
- 34:29But if you are committed to the goal, it doesn't matter if you miss or you have roadblocks.
- 34:35If you have a bigger commitment to it, then you are going to keep prioritizing yourself.
- 34:42So just really, I think that's one of the biggest things is especially we as women,
- 34:47I hate that we do this, but we just don't commit to ourselves.
- 34:51We'll commit to everybody else.
- 34:53We'll commit to our business.
- 34:54You know, we'll do all these things, but we have a hard time committing to ourselves.
- 34:58So just making that first step, that first commitment that like, okay, I am going to
- 35:04make the commitment to feel better and to start making some small steps.
- 35:11I think is really the biggest hurdle.
- 35:14And it goes back to that, put your oxygen mask on yourself first.
- 35:18Yes, exactly.
- 35:20Exactly.
- 35:21Yeah.
- 35:22All right.
- 35:23So you've inspired me to go make some healthier choices and I'll definitely schedule something
- 35:26like that.
- 35:27Awesome.
- 35:28I'm excited to have you as our guest at the luncheon.
- 35:30And I will share all these links in the show notes.
- 35:33So thank you, Laura, for all your insight and information.
- 35:36And I think we could have gone for hours and hours and hours.
- 35:40Yeah.
- 35:41Exactly.
- 35:42I love it.
- 35:43I love it.
- 35:44Thank you for sharing or having me share and helping hopefully inspire lots of women
- 35:50to commit to themselves this year.
- 35:52I love it.
- 35:53Absolutely.
- 35:54So thank you for everybody for listening or watching and sharing, learning this inspiring
- 35:58journey and how we can take care of ourselves.
