- 0:15[SPEAKER_02]: What's going on tonight?
- 0:16[SPEAKER_02]: Bill's mafia.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_02]: I am Lance Nelson, the president of built in Buffalo to my right.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_02]: Scott Cassen, Benjamin Schoop has the night off tonight.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_02]: So we will roll it into a session of double coverage tonight.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_02]: And Scott, how are we feeling?
- 0:33[SPEAKER_02]: We're midway through July here, nearly coming off of fourth of July weekend and two weeks out from training camp.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_02]: So the excitement is palpable now.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're getting close.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we're talking about before this show, uh, not next week's show over the week after we've had two training camp days in, uh, good to be back.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: I missed last week and the week before we were off.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see if I still got it after, uh, these last two weeks off.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: But that a good week pretty much going to do a nothing but play in the new college football video game, uh, taking, try to take New Mexico State to the top.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_02]: Man, that's Eric.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: No, that's, you can't start with the team.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying Sarah fuses good.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: But you can't start with the team like that.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to start with the bottom team, build them up.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_02]: Sounds like you're saying it to me.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: Go Q. It's good to start with an NCAA.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_02]: Too good.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, that's something for the orange faithful to say that out there.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_02]: So I'll take it.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_02]: We're here to talk about the Buffalo Bills and had some quick thought segments here.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_02]: The Bill's skill group was ranked twenty eighth overall by ESPN and Lee.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_02]: That's
- 1:44[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe not super shocking, but what do you think?
- 1:46[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think twenty-eighths maybe a little bit too low and how much do you think these guys can surprise people in this coming year with Josh Allen at quarterback?
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, to all the people who said that Josh Allen wasn't the MVP last season, he put up the season he did with according to NFL writers, the twenty eight best group of skilled players around him.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: So, and they were the best offense in the NFL.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: So, it definitely wasn't the receivers in the running back to are the reason for all of that.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: It was Josh Allen and the group of guys who were going to talk about tonight, the offensive line, but I think twenty eight is kind of crazy.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's definitely too.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: Well, listen to some of these teams who are ahead of him.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's twenty six the New York Giants.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'll give you a week, neighbors.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: But I think James Cook is better than everybody in their backfield and every other receiver like combined.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_00]: So put him ahead of that and then the Saints.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_00]: Who knows if Alave is ever going to play again?
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: Shit, shit, you know, and then yeah.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: So, twenty eight seems really low.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_00]: I was thinking somewhere around twenty.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: But again, who cares, like reading this article just kind of made me mad because based on where they had a lot of team drinks, but it's that time of the year where art sites have to get clicks and there's no football to talk about.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: So this is when all these articles come out.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think today they rank the best uniform.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think the bills were
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: third or fourth and that so what we lack in skill they make up for uniforms that must be why they went to many games.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'll be happy to disagree with the preseason rankings and we'll see where it's at because you know this team's going to compete to be in the Super Bowl again this year with Josh Allen at the quarterback position like you mentioned we're going to talk about this offensive line the bills have and the skill position
- 3:30[SPEAKER_02]: is the skill positions aren't that much different than they were last year.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_02]: And like you mentioned, the offense was very, very good.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_02]: So hey, I think that people are entitled to opinion.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe that is a little bit of clickbait.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe they know that Bill's mafia is gonna rally around.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_02]: They're ranking and talk about it.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_02]: So they put them a little bit lower shove them down there.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_02]: Just on Chris Alave, you mentioned you're not sure if he's gonna
- 3:57[SPEAKER_02]: play again.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_02]: I really hope he does my fancy football team depends on it.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_02]: The extra virgin olave oil.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_02]: I would really love for Chris olave ready to keep playing, but I'm really proud of that name that I came up with.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_02]: All right, well, as bad as these field players were ranked, the offensive line here was ranked third by PFF.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, we say we don't care about rankings, but still nice to see we do have a group of people that is very talented in getting their due praise by some folks in the PFF rankings of third and league for this offensive line.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_02]: What are your thoughts on that?
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, third behind the Eagles and the Broncos and
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think anybody's arguing that the Eagles offensive line isn't the best in the NFL, so how good they were last season.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: But this bill's group is kind of a, I don't want to say sneaky, really good, but other than Dion Dawkins, there's not a whole lot of names you know.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: a casual NFL fan probably couldn't even name Deon Dawkins.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: I often survive until get the most shined, but there are a lot of offensive linemen that do, but who makes his bills a lot into a special as they just play so well as a unit.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's been essentially the same group for the last two seasons, and this year is going to be the third.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: So I expect they're going to be in the top five rankings again this year, and they just play really well as a unit, and I think that's what makes them so good.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think Florida's probably a fair spot.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I agree.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_02]: I think the playing as a unit idea is so important for this group.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_02]: And the continuity they've had, the injury luck they've had is played a massive role.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_02]: And we'll kind of talk about that in a little bit here.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_02]: Like I said, I like tiny rankings where the bills groups or whatever the bills are on top of those.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_02]: Those are always making your heart warmer when you read them.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_02]: But again, just as much as
- 5:50[SPEAKER_02]: still positions getting ranked twenty-eighth by SPN.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_02]: The offensive line getting ranked third by PFF really doesn't mean anything.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_02]: We've got to go out there and put it together on the field.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_02]: As they've shown, I mean, they've done their work.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_02]: They've gotten their due now the last two seasons at this group and they need to do it again for a third straight year.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_02]: I love your segment here in the outline.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_02]: So Elijah Moore and Kian Coleman were filmed doing workouts in the past week here.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_02]: And a lot of people were very impressed by Elijah Moore, very excited and energetic about Elijah Moore, and then sort of down on Kian Coleman.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_02]: And I obviously know your answer, but for the folks who don't talk to you outside of the show, maybe you can give them a little bit of
- 6:42[SPEAKER_02]: What you thought did you, is there any really thing you can see in these videos or just, you know, sort of like kind of reaffirming what you already know about these folks?
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was breaking news that everybody that they were working out.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: And that's literally what they are paid to do.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Keyon's Colman's footwork look kind of slow.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: When he's a big body receiver, the bills did not bring him in to have shifty footwork and to get open in that way.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: He's a big body contested catch guy and Elijah Moore looked a lot smoother and that's how it's going to go.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: A lot smaller than Keyon Colman and he's a fast in an out of breaks guy.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: The two very different receivers.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: So that's why Keyon Colman was working on his footwork because he needs to, but
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: Just when you're that big, you're not gonna have footwork like an Elijah Moore.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: There are just two different kinds of receivers.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought it was kind of silly that everybody was like, I guess it's like my pointer earlier.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: There's nothing else to talk about right now.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: So if you're gonna talk about football things, you've got to kind of grasp its draws.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: It gave people some clicks, but I think I said the same thing last year.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't give a shit what happens on air.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like what they're doing on air.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like the training camp, they're going to be installs.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: Until there's another team on the field,
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't matter.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: Just working out trying to get better.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: We don't know if that was a warm up.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: If he was going full speed if he's working on like one very little specific thing.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: So like who cares?
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: Like I'm happy they're working out.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: That's good.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, I wouldn't be.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's incredible because there's a nuance to every way that every player works out and things you mentioned like
- 8:16[SPEAKER_02]: every drill is with intention for a certain thing.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: And we don't know what those things are.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_02]: Just like even in the preseason and even in training camp, there's going to be reps where the intent on those reps are for one or two things to work on.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_02]: And even though it may look like this player didn't get open, maybe it's like, all right, dude, maybe this guy is told
- 8:40[SPEAKER_02]: don't be wide open so that you force the quarterback to throw to another guy see if you can read a progression work on a progression something like that you know I'm not saying people intentionally tell receivers and cam not to get open but there's just a
- 8:52[SPEAKER_02]: a purpose for every drill, every rep that people take.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_02]: And there's going to be times where it might look bad for one guy, but it might be because somebody else is getting a benefit from it or whatnot, so or may look bad for one skill set, but it may be because he's working on something else on that drill.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: The video, the one around of Debo Samuel a couple weeks ago, like running around on air, they're going to group install.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like he looks slow.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, yeah, that's because he's jogging.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like they don't do those things full speed.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like if you haven't done so yet, guys smash that like button.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_02]: If you can share this with your friends, we'd greatly appreciate it.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_02]: Head on over to YouTube and or Facebook and be in the comments with us, would love to get your comments as we explain.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: We love to interact with y'all out there and
- 9:45[SPEAKER_02]: If you can subscribe to that built in Buffalo YouTube page, we'd greatly appreciate it as well.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_02]: James Cook ranked eighty nine on the top one hundred of the NFL this past week or so.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_02]: Any thoughts there.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I guess James Cook is looking for that payday.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, does the eighty nine.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_02]: out of the top one hundred players in the NFL.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_02]: Give him any leverage or anything to cling to what he's looking for a fade-ares.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_02]: It just says what it is, right?
- 10:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure it does for his agent, but in reality, no, probably not, but just kind of also takes you back to the
- 10:22[SPEAKER_00]: silliness of the skill player positions, like they have the eighty-nine best player in the league as they're running back.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: They're saying those receivers are that bad that there's only better for other teams.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: But good for James Cook, first time he's been on the list, definitely deserves it after last season of these tied for the league league in touchdowns.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: broke a thousand yards for the second straight year.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: So good for him.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: He's gotten better every year.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: So let's hope that he continues that trend this season, but doesn't play too well that he, you know, makes himself, makes himself uncomfortable next year.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: So if I'm in the middle ground, I'm good.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I know some people are predicting or saying that they're still hope for a deal they get done before the season starts here.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not really sure I am in that camp of thinking it, but I guess it wouldn't be
- 11:10[SPEAKER_02]: the most shocking thing in the world.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_02]: But one of the other topics we want to just bring up real quick, because there's so much, there's, you know, turnover in the preseason offseason.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_02]: You have guys that just aren't going to make it.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_02]: There's moves made, I guess, do you, between now and week one, do you see the bills adding players?
- 11:33[SPEAKER_02]: And I guess making a trade, signing someone that we don't expect at this point,
- 11:38[SPEAKER_02]: You do have guys out there, Terry McCleuron's name has been thrown around because he's not happy in Washington and the bill's skill positions are twenty-eighth in the league that they should go get Terry McCleuron and trade for him.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_02]: Trade-hender mixing with the Bengals is out there as a potential trade target and since the bills lack the elite pass rush when in the postseason at times they
- 12:00[SPEAKER_02]: think that that could be a possible target for them.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_02]: For me, I don't really see a big splash happening, but would you be shocked if the bill's really made another monster move?
- 12:12[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe I'm a chlorine or something else that maybe people aren't really thinking about at this point between now and week one.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_02]: Barring.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_02]: Barring any significant injuries, obviously I'm saying.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they were having money.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: and McLaren and Anderson are both very expensive.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: And also, if you're the commanders, you have a quarterback go to do a second year.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think getting rid of his best and kind of only good receiver would be a smart business move.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's been a work it out.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like I don't see him getting traded at all.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: Hendrickson, who knows?
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but I don't it won't be to the bills.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he gets traded, but it won't be to the bills.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: They just they just don't have the money.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I think they'll make a small move or something like that.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like we talked about before the show and we maybe get into it later.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like they have a lot of online deaths.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they can try to flip one of those backup guys who might start somewhere else for a late pick, but I don't see them doing anything crazy.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like a couple small moves here and there is in like camp free agents or give a guy a look, but I don't think there's anything more than that that's going to come between now and the first week.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think the team is pretty much set.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_02]: So I mean, Bond Miller is still free.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_02]: You just don't you don't think they're going to.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_00]: That's just fine.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_00]: You can say one.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's the same I had a similar, and maybe I'm unfair about this, but I saw this comment from John that Dave Edwards is all a free agent after this season, and I was like, well, he can be one that go ahead.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_02]: PFF didn't really do him any favors with their grades on him.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was super inconsistency mid-sixty, so it's not terrible, but
- 13:53[SPEAKER_02]: I thought the consistency from him could improve and we're going to talk about that in just a few minutes here.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_02]: But shout out to him on our energy, the official energy partner of built in Buffalo and the sponsor of the triple coverage podcast.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_02]: Buffalo go.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_02]: The clothing brand there go out to Buffalo go and check out all the merch they have is I think they partnered with bleach by Abigail for some cool sneakers that had the B U F on the sides.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_02]: I thought that was pretty clever.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_02]: So a lot of cool stuff going on over there with Eric and folks at Buffalo go.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_02]: So check them out.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_02]: And all the other great sponsors of the built-in Buffalo podcast network.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_02]: We appreciate it.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_02]: The big tree in, go out there.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_02]: Wingnights are tonight on Thursday.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to get out to the big tree in at some point here in the next couple weeks or next couple months.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_02]: I'd say hopefully and do a wingnight and have a show there.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm looking forward to
- 14:50[SPEAKER_02]: working with them on that and great stuff over at the big tree and so go see them if you're hungry.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, Scott, take it away with the old line group overview here and we're going to get into a couple of old friends and maybe predict if anything's going to change here.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, not a super exciting offensive line segment and not that the offensive line is exciting.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's the most important position group of any football team argue with the wall, but there's just no changes.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's the same exact group as last year is coming back to this year, even down to the back up.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's very possible that the same nine guys who are on the roster last year will be on the roster again this year.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_00]: which is really weird, especially in the autonomous team that's paying a quarter back as much as they are to have the room to do that.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_00]: They've gotten lucky and hit on some draft picks, hit on some guys who know what else really wanted, and like a David Edwards, and then Dion Dawkins has just been there for a really long time.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: And so they've hit on some free and it's kind of a govern.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_00]: So everybody kind of came over in their own way.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_00]: But Lance, how important is it for the five guys who played all
- 16:01[SPEAKER_00]: Not quite all a seventeen games last year because Spencer Brown missed a couple.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: But how important is that for that, you know, continuity for this team to have the same five guys that have the share?
- 16:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think when you talk about playing as a unit in that continuity is really can't be understated because these guys do work so well together.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_02]: There are some of the parts.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_02]: They're not each individually great.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Dien Dockens may be or I would say is one of the greatest offensive linemen to ever play for the bills.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_02]: But I think outside of of him, kind of a governs a very good interior offensive lineman, so I'll give him that too.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_02]: But the guards aren't overly great at this point in their careers.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_02]: Spencer Brown is trending upward.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_02]: He was played very well in last season.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_02]: So it's a given credit there, but I think that you have to understand how important, again, it cannot be understood at how important that continuity, the time together is because
- 17:05[SPEAKER_02]: Communication is everything on the offensive line.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to be able to communicate and know what your guy next to you is going to do and they're able to do that so well because of that continuity and playing so many snaps together.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, an offensive line has to, you know, in the words in the can and one band wants sound.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they have to be five guys, but they have to play as one, especially the bills run his own blocking scheme.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: So most of the time on run plays, they're not necessarily blocking a particular person.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: They're stepping with their play, find place, find foot, and they're kind of hitting who makes sense in their zones.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_00]: And that allows guys to double guys in the offensive line and then work up to the second level and take out linebackers.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: If you're not on the same page and that guy doesn't go to the second level or somebody thinks, oh, the guy, you know, to my inside is going to get the guy that's head up on me.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go second level.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_00]: And you're going to have free rushers and the place not going to work.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_00]: So you have to be on the same page and these guys do that maybe better than any offensive line in the league and they play so well together.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm really excited.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: for the team this year, and I think they'll go as far as the offensive line and take them just because you already know how good this group is.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_00]: They've shown it last year and the year before and they've had incredible knockout of wood injury lock.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: So let's hope that that sticks out, but even last year when Spencer Brown was out for a couple games.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: Ryan Vendomark came in and the team didn't skip a beat, like they played the chiefs in the regular season.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: and beat them with, with Ryan the van the mark, they're back up right to tackle a very important position.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_00]: So really excited for this group to see them continue to grow and you mentioned some inconsistencies will get to those later, you know, who we want to step up and all that, but yeah, both guard spots.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that's that's the only question mark is how good those guys will be.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: So we have book in tackles, my government showed last year is one of the best centers in the league.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_00]: Can those guards take the next step?
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: And I'll really take this whole life at the next level.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: You're seeing changes to the group.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_02]: Before we get started, if you don't mind, let's take these questions here.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_02]: We have the time I think and we might as well, based upon the way the show is going.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_02]: Stop for a couple of guys here.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_02]: Roy's in our comments weekly and we appreciate always being here, Roy.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to let you take this one.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_02]: I don't have a strong feeling on this, but do you think Raeble would be a candidate to play left guard on?
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: He has way more the tackle body type, you know, six, six, three hundred or so.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: He'd probably have to put on some weight to go inside and he when he first got to college, Jacksonville State was a tight end.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: So they kind of moved him into blocking.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: So he's relatively new to the O line.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: And guard is easier to play than tackle, but it's a lot more proof strength.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: So I think he's better fitted on the outside, like could he play guard in the pinch probably?
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: But I doubt that that's in the plan.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's just so big and so athletic.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: And if you're a really athletic offensive line, and you're going to do a lot better on the outside, where you can use technique.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_00]: We'll go like at the end of the offense.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's not the biggest guy.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_00]: He has great technique and he's an athlete.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_00]: Get on the inside.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we asked to move people just like I'm stronger than you.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: You're going right.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_00]: Watch up like the I don't know.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_00]: Grable would really thrive there.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the athleticism is key and the bills use that to their advantage on the outside with their tackles for sure.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_02]: Pretty point and then Alec Anderson taking Dave Edwards place.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's certainly a hope.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, because you got to have these younger guys coming up and have that sort of youth movement at some point, but I'm not sure, you know, Alec Anderson is sort of the de facto backup interior offensive lineman.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_02]: He's listed as the backup at both guards and the center position.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_02]: So played well, but he also plays really well as the sixth offensive lineman, which we're going to touch on in a moment here.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah, I don't
- 20:52[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's probably the hope at some point for him to progress into that role, but I'm not sure, you know, I'm not sure, based upon his skill set, he may be able to do multiple things.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_02]: What do you think about Anderson at Left Garden?
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's possible.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you mentioned that they're both on, they've been members of that out of the energy and are both on one year deals.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: So this is the last year that here there, let's say opt to resign them, the bills resigned them both this past off season.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: If there was a change in the starters, this could, this is the only one that I could maybe see happening.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_00]: Alec Anderson played so well in the six o'clock in the last year, but the year before that, that was David Edwards.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_00]: He was awesome as a six o'clock man.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: They let Ryan Bates walk and slide him in there.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: So I would be surprised if it happens because, you know, kind of an eight broke.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: Don't fix it.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: But if he has an awesome camp, but something's possible.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_02]: love help physical out gander some of the raps of the jets had to tell him to chill out like he was he was playing two physical and like that's what you want in our minds he like richy and cognito back in the day minus the CTE yeah it's gonna bring up a age but actually i'm running day but everywhere's only twenty eight years old so really uh has a has a lot of gas left in that tank and alicanderson you know you just worry about his health really he plays so damn hard that he uh
- 22:13[SPEAKER_02]: kind of knocks himself out of the game at times and you know you don't know how well his his body being so big you know and moving so well it's one of those things where you know sometimes you can twist things up and kind of hurt yourself by being so so physical and so intense at times maybe when when it's not needed so that's good question I like that I think that I would agree if there's one
- 22:41[SPEAKER_02]: job that can switch hands would be Anderson taking Edward's position because they're not going to move on from torrents at this point yet and McGoverns really really good and Edward has been the most inconsistent so he could you know he has to earn his job every day but
- 23:02[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you mentioned, and I'm sorry, I'll steer your thunder here just because I'm already talking.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_02]: You mentioned Chase Lunt and Kendrick Green, joining the roster here, a rush rhymeer as well as a guard.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_02]: And I'll ask you, do you see any changes from from the guys we had last year?
- 23:18[SPEAKER_02]: So last year, it was, we're going to see a little bit of change because we'll collapse no longer here, but it was van praying,
- 23:28[SPEAKER_02]: Osiris Torrance, Conor McGubert and Tiling Raeble, Alec Anderson, Dianne Dawkins, Ryan Vandemar, David Edward Spencer Brown.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_02]: Travis Clayton was on IR at the end of the season.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_02]: This is from the championship game and Tommy Doyle on physically and I'm unable to perform as well.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_02]: So, not sure really what to say about Clayton or Doyle at this point, but Mike Edwards and Richard Gerage were on the practice squad.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_02]: So there is sort of one de facto practice squad position available for someone to take.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_02]: We would assume
- 24:02[SPEAKER_02]: probably chase one there.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_02]: So what do you think if anything would might change this coming season?
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: I have a feeling it's going to be the same group of nine guys this last year.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_00]: Will clap.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he was on the roster at the start of the season.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think he came up when Grady Bull got hurt if I'm not mistaken.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_00]: So I think it'll be the same group unless someone gets hurt.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think not gunwood.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully that doesn't happen.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_00]: Or we talked about this a bit before the show.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 24:29[SPEAKER_00]: You know, maybe Chase Lund comes in and looks awesome.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_00]: If he can be that swing tackle, that can go either side.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_00]: Would surprise me because I know he's a kind of more developmental piece out of Yukon, but maybe he's awesome.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe, you know, Jim Moore up got the boys fired up in stories.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's not just a basketball school.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe that makes the guy.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_02]: He wakes up in the morning and pisses excellence who knows.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_00]: That's possible.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_00]: If you don't chew big red, then you know the rest.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe that makes the guy run in the park disposable and they can try to trade him for
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: of a day three pick, and then he's hoping he doesn't turn into Wyatt Teller, but I don't foresee that happening.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_00]: So I think it'll be the same group, and then Kendrick Green probably gets just straight cut, or maybe they trade him somewhere.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe someone needs an interior line and then get a late day three pick, and Chase Long goes to the practice squad and I kind of all stays the same.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_00]: So I have a feeling it'll be the same group, but again, I'll have something like that happens.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_02]: A great, yeah, there's
- 25:31[SPEAKER_02]: Not too many ways to beat that dead horse that nine guys last year, same nine guys are here, but ain't broke, don't fix it.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's exactly exactly how I feel about it.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_00]: So last season, the Buffalo Bills went six offensive line or jumbo package more than any other team in the NFL.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_00]: We mentioned before, Alec Anderson was that six offensive lineman.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_00]: The year before it was David Edwards and it seems like a kind of thing that Joe Brady wants to do and it's not going anywhere and the bills are damn good at it.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_00]: So it Alec Anderson played twenty-seven percentage maps last season.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was around sixteen or seventeen of that was as a six offensive lineman.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_00]: But Lance, what do you think makes the bill so successful going jumbo and how do you think they use this year?
- 26:17[SPEAKER_00]: Did they change it up at all?
- 26:19[SPEAKER_00]: Did you more or less?
- 26:20[SPEAKER_00]: What do you think?
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: I was looking at the snaps by position according to PFF and he had a hundred ninety total inline snaps being basically the second or the sixth offensive lineman and of those hundred ninety one hundred nineteen were on the right side with Spencer Brown.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, Spencer Brown's a very good run blocker.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_02]: Alec Anderson's a very good run blocker.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_02]: So having those two next to each other on the right side is very successful.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_02]: That helps in the running game.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_02]: Now they didn't always run when they
- 26:51[SPEAKER_02]: at six o'clock so they were able to still throw the ball and having athletic running backs helps with that because you can still get the ball into their hands as well and having a guy like little skewer can get open quick and have a high catch rate will help you in that game as well i think kian Coleman on some slant patterns gives you some dangerous weapons there as well so
- 27:13[SPEAKER_02]: Those types of things help make this bills off and successful with six online.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_02]: I think the overall takeaway I have is that they're going to use all of these guys athleticism.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_02]: We talked about being athletic and how you kind of have to be on this bills.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_02]: offensive line, you do have to get out, they'll pull any position at any time and make sure that these guys, we talked about Ryan Vandermark off the air, how he was a big part of that screenplay.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_02]: I was against the Titans, right?
- 27:44[SPEAKER_02]: That broke that.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_02]: And so it's just that whole piece of all these guys are athletic.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_02]: It helps in the zone scheme as well, being athletic to be able to reach guys and things of that nature.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_02]: Overall, the six-old lineman sets work because they have a good design on the run game.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_02]: And then they also have some guys that are pretty talented out there, even though they're the twenty-eighth rank skill positions that can grab the ball quick and make some moves.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_02]: So I like the overall answer of the six-old lineman being successful as athleticism.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_02]: That's the main key.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think another thing is
- 28:26[SPEAKER_00]: You mentioned that you're running wall of sexual line over.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_00]: They also pass out of it.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_00]: They pass out of it.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of a lot.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_00]: Play action and sometimes not even.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think Keyons first touched on against the Jaguars was was out of a six o'clock and set just three receivers and they pass out of it a lot.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_00]: So a lot of teams if they bring in six o'clock and then you see the jumbo set and kind of load up the box and put eight guys.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_00]: kind of entering around the audience screen and just the bills you can't do that.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_00]: So what helps is that you're running to a light box with six offensive lines and so you can usually get had on a hat and that helps.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: And then if you're passing on of it, that the six o'clock and then combined with Josh Allen, you're not really ever going to get any pressure on them.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_00]: So they're going to have all day for the route combos that are welcome.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_00]: They actually run a lot of their downfield passing combos out of six o'clock and because they know that.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_00]: One, they may be thinking we're gonna run, but also we're gonna have all day for this to develop.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_00]: It could be as long developing a route combination as you want to, but those six guys and Josh Allen, they're not gonna get home.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_00]: So, definitely something to do.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_02]: So David Edwards thinks absolutely wrecked and then Josh Allen gets crushed.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that doesn't happen all that often.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_02]: Not all that.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if you're talking about the last play against the GS, what does me with David Edwards fault?
- 29:38[SPEAKER_02]: No, I wasn't talking about that play.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_02]: No, just sad.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_02]: by recollection of last season of, you know, watching the film and going through certain games, I don't have a specific play for you, but I know that there's been times where everybody goes through a rap where they just kind of, you know, lose and, and it's tough and it results in bad plays, but you're gonna have those and, and sinks with that happen.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_00]: So I'd rather have that towards his mistakes or he just steps through on way.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_02]: Indeed, they both, yeah, I should not have single out Edward Saran.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_02]: They both, they both have their moments.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so, but yeah, I don't think it's going to seem something you already wants to do.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_00]: It works really well in the zone blocking scheme in James Cook.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go, I think, just as well, this year has to do last year.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_00]: The only question I just talked about earlier is who's the six guy Edward's or Anderson?
- 30:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think it'll still be Anderson, because like we said, if they broke, don't fix it.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, John's asking about Jackson Haas, it all he's a tight end.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_02]: So he's just going to be the second or third tight end on the line.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_02]: So you won't necessarily be counted as a six o' line in, but similar sets similar formations could be run using him there.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_02]: So the point sticks, it's probably a similar thing if they want to use him there.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_02]: If they feel, you know, if they have Anderson isn't available for some reason, certainly could throw Jackson Haas on the end of the line and be pretty good.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_00]: I want them to throw Anderson to ball and see him.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_00]: He's always times doubt they're he's eligible.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_00]: They're never going to expect him if he's whips on his block and turns around.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to get six, seven, eight yards for free.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_00]: So wait in for that to happen.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_02]: I think he'd be tough to bring down to that man.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_02]: Ronald, like I said, he mentioned the intensity he plays with.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_02]: You imagine trying to tackle that dude.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_02]: I can't the fight in his eyes.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's going all the way.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe you do it from the twenty yard line.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_02]: So you know, you know, red.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_02]: So I actually don't have to make him run sixty yards.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_00]: I'd just be worried about fumble because we'll see somebody in the open.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_00]: And forget he has a ball.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_00]: He's gonna try to attack.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, a truck stick with the ball is twenty yards behind him.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so we've been a lot of talk about the James Cook contract extension, and then he's gonna get paid, but the biggest question on the O-line is Connor McGum came in from the Cowboys two seasons ago came in and played guard when they still had Mitch Morse, but everybody said from Dallas, he's a better center than he is a guard.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_00]: He hasn't played it much, but like that's his natural position moved him over last season and things honestly couldn't have gone better.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_00]: It was worried about the connection between Josh and Connor because him and Mitch had such a good one
- 32:18[SPEAKER_00]: But they seem to pick it up really, really fast, such as, you know, easy when you're touching the guys, but all the time, I guess.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_00]: But do you see an extension for him coming maybe before the season or is this something that maybe just let go?
- 32:32[SPEAKER_00]: And they have a separate bumper on Granger, and they drive about a Georgia last season, but he was just a day three pick.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_00]: So it sounded like they used an early draft pick on him.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_00]: What do you think their strategy is was centered going forward?
- 32:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think this is the one thing you and I talk about when we talk about this sort of thing, the most, and that we talked about it on a previous show this off season as well.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_02]: I read or heard someone say out loud that the David Edwards extension would be more important or better to get done now than the Connor McGowan mentioned.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, because they're both free agents, right?
- 33:10[SPEAKER_02]: And it's like, why would you want to resign the inconsistent left guard over the best center that you could have?
- 33:19[SPEAKER_02]: Because you're not getting anyone better than him, actually, or whether it's centric frameran grandiors.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_02]: ready or not to play, you know, believe he's going to play at a higher level than Conner McGovern.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_02]: He may be good, he may be, you know, right up to par with him or at best, but you know, you're not going to be better than him.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think so.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_02]: I think McGarren's the most important extension on the offensive line, I think, you know, you're going to have to deal with torrents at some point in the next couple of years as well if you want to keep this whole thing together, but he's in twenty twenty seven becoming a free agent.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_02]: So I think the McGarren deal is the important one to get done.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_02]: We mentioned how Alec Anderson's here.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_02]: He can stay healthy and he can be an actual inside player in this league.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_02]: It would be nice for him to step into the Edward tool and use your finances all on keeping that center quarterback continuity.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_02]: We talk about the continuity.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_02]: The communication just knowing what each other's thinking and doing at all times.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_02]: It's unfortunate for Von Prong Ranger being a draft pick and wanting to have that
- 34:32[SPEAKER_02]: path to play here in the NFL, but with the bills, that path just doesn't seem to exist right now unless he turns into himself into a guard, which one of the things about him coming out was he's just a center.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_02]: And it's going to be tough.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_02]: So if there's any way he can play guard, you know, maybe he takes over that left guard at some point, but otherwise, you know, it's going to be tough for Vaughan Prime Ranger to see the field barring a major injury to McGovern.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_02]: And I would like to see McGovern stay until he can't play football anymore.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I agree.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_00]: And he's only twenty seven.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_00]: He's twenty eight during the season.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_00]: So he's still young, thought he had to worry about age.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_00]: He has five, six more years of good football ahead of him.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's definitely worth re signing in.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_00]: The guard's one of those positions where it's the most interchangeable position on the offensive line to wait easier to replace guys in the middle and it does on the outside because we have side around an island a lot.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_00]: And to you versus one guy, if you miss like you're kind of screwed.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_00]: The inside you're working a lot more as a group and as a unit.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_00]: But, but center, you know, you have to have the quarterback exchange, which is important.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_00]: You have to be able to snap, get your head up, block, and build that squadgarver into a lot of things, and call out the protections a lot at the time.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_00]: So, if you have a good center, like you don't want a lot of gut.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_00]: We've seen it here in Buffalo.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_00]: The aderic would from, what was he?
- 35:52[SPEAKER_00]: Seventeen, whenever you're tired, yeah.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_00]: Twenty seventeen, yeah, and then straight into Miss Morris, and we had him for five years, five or six seasons, and then now Connor McGoverns.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: So like centers, the position when you have what you don't let them go, guards a lot easier to replace.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think that it's definitely important to get that deal done, especially if they don't resign James Cook, not that the two are mutually exclusive by any means.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_00]: But they're going to have some money to play with a little bit more, so maybe some of that goes to him.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_00]: And for Ron Pro, this is a very important camp in preseason.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_00]: If he's going to be the starting center for the bills, he has to show at this camp in preseason.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_00]: He has to put some stuff on tape where they feel comfortable letting the govern go.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: for maybe moving him to guard if they let David Edwards go.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think he signed him to move him to guard.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_00]: So if I'm afraid you're as to put some stuff on film that makes the bills say, hey, this kid is too good to not start and then let the government walk.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_00]: So I think the government extensions really important.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe even more important than James Cook won this off.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_00]: See you.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, completely agree.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_02]: Just I thought I had
- 37:01[SPEAKER_02]: just wanted to make sure we get the Eric Wood career timeline there is, two thousand nine to two thousand seventeen.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_02]: So eight years.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_02]: Either way, six very close yet.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_02]: I just was looking at it because I did my top twenty five bills of the twenty of the since two thousand twenty two thousand twenty four.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_02]: So I was just looking at his stats it last night.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_02]: So that's why I wanted to check it and I think we did a darn good job.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so
- 37:31[SPEAKER_02]: You know, that's this is the conundrum for the Bill's front office here with the interior of this offensive line.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously have those bookends, but even today on WGR, they had the chiefs guy on there and forget his name now, but they had a chiefs guy on WGR and he mentioned that it doesn't really matter if they have a good left tackle.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_02]: and center doesn't matter who's playing left-guard.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_02]: And he's like, so I agree with that.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, you can, because you're gonna, it's not like you're gonna have nobody there.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_02]: You're not having a P.V.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_02]: football player out there.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_02]: You're gonna have a guy who's got some confidence in the NFL level and, you know, as long as he's not, you know, just completely embarrassing self-consistently, you're gonna have
- 38:19[SPEAKER_02]: the ability to do what you need to do on offense, I think, and the bills have shown that.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_02]: And we've seen inconsistencies on the interior at times, but overall, I think this unit's done a heck of a job, and they've gotten the praise that they deserve being, as we said, ranked third by PFF.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, definitely a happy problem to have, I guess.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_00]: We have so many good players that you're worried about, are you going to bring back?
- 38:46[SPEAKER_00]: They're all here this season, sorry.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_00]: You know, better make something shake.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we kind of hinted on this the whole way through and kind of already said who we're going to say, but in your opinion, who on the OI needs to step up?
- 38:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's the guard position, right?
- 39:02[SPEAKER_02]: We said that.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_02]: Just because David Edwards is more of a veteran, I want to make sure I want to see his play be more consistent.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_02]: You expect a little bit more inconsistency out of a young guy like Torrance, not that it's acceptable or wanted for him to make mistakes, but it's just more understandable that, okay.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_02]: Torrents is a young player hasn't been in the NFL.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_02]: Edwards has been on Super Bowl teams and this with the Rams.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_02]: So yes, he's maybe newer to the Bill scheme.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_02]: He's been here two years now, though, I believe.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_02]: So he should be up to snuff and we should be knowing what we're doing and all those things.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_02]: But again, nobody's perfect and you want to strive to win every rep, but there's going to be reps that you lose.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_02]: And if there's a weakness on this team,
- 39:48[SPEAKER_02]: It's, you know, this interior and really it's, again, the miscommunication.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to make sure that you can communicate what you're seeing out there.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_02]: And if you get it wrong, then bad things are going to happen.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_02]: We saw that last play against the chiefs there.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_02]: kind of a breakdown in communication.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, the bills guy had to got it wrong there.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_02]: And the bills as a team got it wrong and identifying what was happened.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what you see.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_02]: But there are some time.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_02]: And then that's how, right?
- 40:24[SPEAKER_02]: That's how teams lose some games.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_02]: There's key situations in games where you have a play called and one guy loses his rep.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_02]: In that play and then, you know, your drives over or whatnot and in some cases, there's there's, you know, worst things that happen, there's could be injuries or other things that that occur because of that and can derail even a whole season, but I think.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_02]: I think you need to step up is definitely the interior, and we need to make sure that we're, or whatever reason the bills are not well graded by PFF in the run game as far as run blocking goes outside of Spencer Brown and Alec Anderson.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I guess if they could do whatever they need to do to make PFF raid them better in the run game, that would be nice.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_02]: But I don't think that I don't think it's a glaring hole.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think they just had a thousand yard russia and the adjamescope played some meaningless football to get to that.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_02]: stat, but as a top three unit in the league, they don't have a ton of shortcomings at this point.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_02]: It's more splitting hairs in nitpicking when you watch film where they, again, lose a rep because nobody's going to.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the average four and a half yard to carry less season.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_00]: So I can tell you where to stick those PFF run.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_00]: You're not averaging that many yards per carry if you're not blocking at least well enough.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, for me, it's the other guard.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_00]: So Cyrus Toings, the biggest thing with him is just consistency.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_00]: He has plays like the play of the year as per Jim Nance.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Josh Owens' fourth into you running for the touchdown to beat the chiefs in the regular season where he took Chris Jones for a ride and it was him and first of each other one on one and he said, you're not getting past me.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_00]: Then he has other plays where he steps the wrong way or he gets confused or he has a assignment wrong as a free Russia.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_00]: So just being consistent that should come out just third year in the league.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: So he can't really say he's a young guy anymore.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_00]: He's played two full seasons and he started damn near forty NFL games counting the playoffs.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_00]: So I just want to see more consistency from there because he has it.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_00]: But so just you know lock it in on it and not having as many mental mistakes as he's had because he has all the physical talent just a matter of
- 42:44[SPEAKER_00]: Spanner put it all together all the time.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_02]: For sure, I think that again, it's it's one of those things where the the abilities there and you know, we need to see it.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_02]: I don't mean this team would be the number one unit if both Edwards and Florence were.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_02]: consistently as good as they could be right I mean that that's just the fact of the matter is that if those two are as good as they can reach their top potential at a consistent basis.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_02]: They're going to have a lot of success on this offensive line.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, Conner McGovern is very good too, but, you know, again, not these guys don't win every rep.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_02]: And really common to hear if the bills win a Super Bowl, good luck for signing McGovern.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, I think that's why people say do it now.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_02]: do it before the season because then people aren't going to get priced out that's the whole reason for trying to get ahead of it by a year so that think these guys that you want to keep aren't priced out when you go to resign and I think
- 43:49[SPEAKER_02]: whatever they there's always money in the banana sand so if uh... whatever they need to do i think you know keeping the government uh... might be a priority unless uh... unless they're really seeing something from vampong ranger that that the rest of us are potentially seeing and uh... that's their succession plan they do have to get younger at some point they do have to and it's not that these guys bull by an image twenty eight
- 44:12[SPEAKER_02]: is an old, but it's just a matter of like, okay, there has to be a succession plan, and it all works.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_02]: It's all puzzle with the cap, right?
- 44:21[SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah, if they're worried about being priced out of a guy after winning the Super Bowl this year, then go sign them now.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_02]: And that way, his price is going to be lower now than it would be after winning the Super Bowl next year, or this coming season.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_02]: So, that solves that problem.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_00]: That's a big, we'll cross that bridge, or we'll come to a problem.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_00]: For me, we're in the Super Bowl.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_02]: So confidence in the group overall, I'm at like a night and a half.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_02]: Honestly, I really like this team.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_02]: One thing I wanted to mention in the show when I haven't mentioned it yet, so we'll do it now is it's pretty fascinating how Dion Dawkins
- 45:00[SPEAKER_02]: literally puts himself on an island to give himself a matchup against some of these defensive ends.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's pretty spectacular to watch.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_02]: And he's a big reason why there's a high confidence level in this group.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_02]: He plays at a high level.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_02]: I mentioned to me, he might be the best bills offensive linemen to play for the team in the franchise history.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_02]: But what do you think overall?
- 45:20[SPEAKER_02]: Do you want to get your thoughts on Dion's tactic of kind of taking that wide split out there and putting himself on an island against some of these editors?
- 45:29[SPEAKER_00]: Confidence in the group, I'll start there first.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, same as you, nine, nine and a half.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_00]: Really good about it.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_00]: Probably last confidence that any group other than job challenge in the quarterback group.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_00]: For Dianne Dawkins, like, if you watch his tape as no line with a technique is terrible, like he does not do things away or supposed to do.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_00]: He like sometimes turns his shoulders and runs back, which is like,
- 45:51[SPEAKER_00]: offensive lineman like never do that and put himself out on a island which when it's the one on one obvious passing situations that's fine if I was his left guard I'd be like what get closer to me because now there's a bigger hole for someone else to come through but he doesn't do it all the time he does it when it's you know one on one and he knows
- 46:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's just him and he kind of brings the fight to the lineman and it is tough to sometimes like kick step back when they're that far out because otherwise they can get get the corner on you so you just kind of brings it to them and I think you mentioned last year they were calling all of those.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_00]: illegal formation penalties.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_00]: The online self like a wide receiver like he winds up right on the line of script and doesn't take you know any kind of a half step back.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_00]: So it works for him and that's all that matters and he's one of the best offensive linemen football.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_00]: But it's definitely a unique technique that he uses.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_02]: For sure.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and you know John mentioned the whole line made James cook better.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean that's
- 46:50[SPEAKER_02]: He they've they've made all three these running backs workout and one of the reasons why the bills can do the things they want to do on offense with the group they have with the twenty-eighth rank skill positions is because they have a fantastic offense alone and that's kind of solves a lot of issues where you get more time obviously Josh Allen prone to holding the ball so they do need guys that can block a little bit longer and be successful in that and they have it in this old anger
- 47:17[SPEAKER_00]: Jazz Chism, the last guy in the home room, Derby.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_02]: Breaking news.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_00]: We'll about it.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, breaking news right here.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_00]: No Christian yellowish for those following that story.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_02]: Amazing.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I will be wins.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_01]: We too.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_01]: It was the last day I came to win the home of Derby, remember?
- 47:42[SPEAKER_02]: Nope.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_00]: Not kind of judge, twenty seven.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_00]: Aaron Judge, twenty seventeen.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_02]: I wasn't sure if Judge could compete in that, so.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_00]: He did this rookie year and he won and then can no one.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember what year, but the all-star game was in Arizona, and then Gianby won it.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was out too.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think those are the Yankees that were winning.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_02]: Gianbaum, nice, amazing Robinson cano, my favorite player.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_02]: As a Yankee, number twenty four, my favorite number.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_02]: So that went really well.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_02]: Till he wasn't on the team.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_00]: Great.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_00]: He got a whole extra month of vacation, I remember he's
- 48:18[SPEAKER_02]: There you go.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_02]: All right, guys, that'll do it for us.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_02]: I appreciate you for watching and kind of get you out of here a little bit less than an hour tonight.
