We Built A Moving City. If It Stops, We All Die Instantly
Sci-Fi Subgenres: Planetary science fiction, weird science, social dystopia
A Surveyor walks ahead of a mobile city that must remain inside a narrow region of survivable gravity moving across an apparently endless plain. He discovers that the region is not natural: the city’s own mass engine creates it while crushing the landscape behind and distorting time for communities left outside. Stopping the engine would end the devastation, but it would also expose the city’s inhabitants to decades of accumulated gravitational debt in a single instant.
