- 0:00Well, what happens at the end like that?
- 0:02We go all day, we run, we have so many laps like that and then
- 0:08at the end I'm holding my breath and of course you see a caution.
- 0:12Didn't even know why until I looked up and saw everything.
- 0:17Just I think what you what I reflect on is when you have four
- 0:23cars like that and you see those guys battle as hard as they do
- 0:30each and every one of those cars and you just hate it for Martin
- 0:34to have a night like that where he fought so hard and so it just
- 0:40this one of those things you reflect on really happy for
- 0:43Denny Mavis our new sponsor sponsor auto owners was on
- 0:50Martin's car and so it just it was a battle really.
- 0:56I know that there wasn't the stage breaks not a lot of
- 1:03cautions but I think it was really really a battle and so
- 1:08appreciate our guys tonight. We love coming to Richmond.
- 1:12It's a favorite place for us and I I think our sponsors here.
- 1:19We had a large number of sponsors here tonight.
- 1:22It's a big deal for us all the way around, so really appreciate
- 1:26it. I know you guys are anxious to
- 1:29get to the important guys, Denny and and and Chris, so we'll get
- 1:35to them as quick as we can. Bob Parker's Fox Sports A2, The
- 1:391st is what did you think of the use of the wet weather tires?
- 1:42Were you good with it and with the way NASCAR handled it?
- 1:45Yeah, I I think we all kind of felt like if that was going to
- 1:49be the case and it wasn't really raining hard, we did we we
- 1:54didn't have windshield wipers but I I heard a couple of guys
- 1:57comment said they never use them anyway so but I felt like as
- 2:02long as it really wasn't a steady downpour that that would
- 2:06probably be the way we would get the race started.
- 2:11And I don't know if you're aware, but Hendrick Motorsports
- 2:13is going to be do a big 40th anniversary celebration next
- 2:17week at Martinsville. And I know Rick played a pretty
- 2:19big role. When you got into the sport,
- 2:21what did you think his impact was on your entry into the
- 2:25sport? Yeah, I I think it was major.
- 2:28I had an interesting phone call. So I'm, I'm there in Washington
- 2:33and I was thinking about trying to get into racing, JD and Coy
- 2:37said. Dad, let's get in racing in some
- 2:39way. And so everybody had told me the
- 2:41person you need to call is Rick. Well, when I call Rick, he said,
- 2:47yeah, I'm going to put my my general manager with you and
- 2:52that was Jimmie Johnson. And so that's how we started
- 2:57out. The Jimmie Johnson was taking me
- 2:58around to everybody at that point Chevrolet, and he went
- 3:03with me to Interstate. And so Rick played a a key role
- 3:08in getting us started. We also bought some stuff from
- 3:10him. We also had a motor, a motor
- 3:14package with him for quite a while.
- 3:17And so Rick was instrumental. And I think with our sport,
- 3:23almost everybody here knows to come into the sport, it really
- 3:27does help to have an alliance. In those days it wasn't called
- 3:31an alliance, but that's really what he was for us because we
- 3:36were, we had 17 people our first year and so just really
- 3:41appreciate him. You know, we joke back and
- 3:45forth, kit each other all the time and have a good
- 3:48relationship. I invited him to the football
- 3:53game. So he comes to the football
- 3:54game. Just a quick story.
- 3:55You probably heard this and he wore these boots, these fancy
- 3:59big boots. They came apart on the sideline,
- 4:02it was freezing cold and he almost died on the sideline the
- 4:07night he came. So that was a side Side Story.
- 4:12All right, let's go to Chris Powell.
- 4:15Chris Powell, Couch Coach, Live coach, You had a great weekend
- 4:20for the organization. You out Chandler wins yesterday
- 4:23in Xfinity Series and also Danny wins today.
- 4:26What's your thoughts on just this weekend overall?
- 4:29Yeah, I I think just love coming here.
- 4:33It was obviously a a big weekend for us, just really appreciate
- 4:37that. And again, it emphasizes in
- 4:40Xfinity we got four cars. Three of them, you know, have
- 4:44been running really good. And honestly, it shows you how
- 4:47hard our sport is for Sheldon. I feel so bad.
- 4:51You know, we've had three real tough races in a row.
- 4:55And so it just goes to show you our sport is really tough and
- 5:00it's not often you get to walk away from the racetrack and have
- 5:04all four teams happy. It just doesn't.
- 5:06And tonight's a good example, you know?
- 5:09But anyway, I just really appreciate it.
- 5:11Appreciate coming here. The fan base here, I always get
- 5:16along really good with them whenever we go to hospitalities
- 5:19and stuff. There's a lot of Redskin fans
- 5:22here and so they treat me great all.
- 5:26Right. Let's go to Randy.
- 5:27Randy Holman, Richmond Times Dispatch Joe Denny talks about
- 5:31his goals. Long range sometimes.
- 5:34What are your goals for Denny? Yeah.
- 5:37Obviously just we we want him. It's all the obvious things.
- 5:42He wants to get the sixty wins. I think that tonight made it 53.
- 5:48I told him I'm counting the clash, so we're at 54, but I
- 5:54think he wants to get the sixty wins.
- 5:57That's a huge deal for him. And then I think everybody,
- 6:00everybody asks him the question about winning a championship.
- 6:05Obviously we would love to see that happen.
- 6:09You know, I I met with him up at Watkins Glen and we were talking
- 6:13and I told him that, you know, for a guy that is where he is in
- 6:17his career. He had struggled with Rd. racing
- 6:22and it shows you though his desire and drive.
- 6:26You know, even at at where he is in his career because he went to
- 6:31work on road racing and did a number of things.
- 6:34They put Tyler's set up in the car for him.
- 6:41He did things like that, had a tough time driving it went to
- 6:44work in the simulator and for him to come back at his age and
- 6:48set on three poles, you know, is a huge deal.
- 6:53It shows you his talent and it shows you his willingness still
- 6:56at this point in his career to really work hard.
- 7:00It's something that's hard work. And so anyway, you know, it's
- 7:07been a great relationship when you think about it and you know,
- 7:0918 years FedEx has been there and for us to enjoy this, it's
- 7:15really been special. OK, let's come over here.
- 7:18Right here. Coach, I don't know if you were
- 7:26able to see post race, but Barton was, as you know,
- 7:30probably not happy with the result and ran into both.
- 7:33Ran into Denny. Talk about like how bittersweet
- 7:36that result is considering Martin's dominance And is that
- 7:42given what Martin did post race, is that going to be handled?
- 7:45Maybe in the team meeting on Monday?
- 7:46Well, I think here, here's what, here's what happens.
- 7:50These guys put so much into this.
- 7:52They're all, I mean, great competitors and these things are
- 7:56so hard to win. And so when you haven't
- 7:59experienced the way Martin did tonight, you know to race that
- 8:02hard, you know at at one point there when the five got in front
- 8:07of us on that pit stop and he came right back and got it.
- 8:10I mean he drove his heart out And so, you know, then to have a
- 8:14caution, we go that far and then to have a caution with three
- 8:17laps to go, you know, that was just, it was devastating.
- 8:21We came out of there and we came out second on the pit stop.
- 8:25And so honestly, you just feel, you know, that's what I was
- 8:31trying to relate to everybody. You you're happy for Denny,
- 8:35certainly and everything that happened tonight for him.
- 8:38But then you know, you see that in Martin, how hard he fought
- 8:42for this and how how much he wanted it.
- 8:45But that's some part of our sport.
- 8:47It's it's really hard and you see these guys, when it gets
- 8:51down towards the end of these races, they're going for it
- 8:55because they are really hard to win.
- 8:58And so you can't have that happen, particularly if you got
- 9:01good cars, good drivers. They all want it.
- 9:04They want it for their sponsor, they want it for themselves,
- 9:07their career. And so you really feel for them
- 9:11when they go through a night, you know, like Martin went
- 9:14through this night, you just feel for them all.
- 9:17Right. We can take one more question
- 9:19for Coach. Go ahead.
- 9:20Good evening, Sir. Congratulations to you and your
- 9:23team for success so far this year.
- 9:25You recently brought back Mr. and forgive me if I
- 9:29mispronounced his name, Amira, towards your team.
- 9:32What was that like in the decision to do that for this
- 9:34year and going forward for next next week?
- 9:37What are your plans for the team?
- 9:38Yeah, Eric Amarola. Yeah, huge deal for us.
- 9:43What happened on that? He was in our diversity program
- 9:46that we had when Reggie White was, you know, with us and he
- 9:51was the owner of the rate of the diversity team we had.
- 9:56Eric went through there. He's Cuban descent.
- 10:00You know, we had Bubba went through there, Daniel Suarez
- 10:05went through there. So all of those guys went
- 10:07through our diversity program. And Eric, we got in a
- 10:12conversation about a year ago and I said you need to come back
- 10:17and finish your career with us. You know, he's been 19 years ago
- 10:22when he was with us, he's been really, really just a class
- 10:26person and I mentioned to everybody what kind of guy he
- 10:31is. JD had a lot to do, my son with
- 10:35getting him to our race team and JD got sick and it was over a
- 10:40five year period. He gradually, you know, lost all
- 10:46physical. He could just couldn't.
- 10:50He can converse with anybody or anything.
- 10:53It's kind of hard for me to say. Eric Amarola would come and sit
- 10:57with him even when he couldn't communicate for two and three
- 11:03hours at his house. That's the kind of person he is.
- 11:08So we had a chance to get back together and he said, you know,
- 11:11I can come over. I think he's working with, he's
- 11:15well, he's not thinking. He's working with our young,
- 11:17young drivers. We got a number of them and
- 11:21Xfinity, I just appreciate him so much and the kind of person
- 11:24he is. So that that was that started
- 11:26all of that. And so anyway, we want to
- 11:31certainly keep him as long as we can.
- 11:35Coach, thanks so much for coming in.
- 11:37Thank you and congratulations. Appreciate it.
- 11:39Appreciate it so much. God's blessed us with a great
- 11:41group of people and thank you all for all you do to make us
- 11:45look good and it was awesome today.
- 11:52We had a great service by the way, and and it was really
- 11:56great. I appreciate NASCAR letting us
- 11:58do that and I really appreciate being a part of that on Easter.
